On a similar but unrelated to the movie note, can we just talk about how toa started with Jim having 0 dads and (if strickler and blinky live to the end) will end with 2 dads? Like I just really feel happy for him that he has two dads who actually figured out how to put the past behind them to not have any infighting between them so that both of them are healthy father figures. Jim has already been through literal hell and back losing his actual humanity in the process so if he loses one of them, I'm going to be really pissed because at this point, this is just Jim torture porn. Y'all know how as SpongeBob SquarePants went on, the show just became Squidward torture porn? It's starting to feel that way for toa and I really hope they cut the shit by the ending

Sometimes I just feel he's only comic relief and any heartfelt moments he's had in the series was also born of stupidity (ie his flour baby project being unharmed was seen by him as divine intervention from his parents but was actually just Eli and Steve behind the scenes).

And that's all! I'd rate it a 6.5/10 because it's definitely the weakest of all the sequels but still had amazing animation and some good plot points. It's just really hard to look over the bad stuff enough to rate it any higher.

Chapter 3: Jean’s Mom

You looked at the boy, confused. Nobody had ever shown you kindness before, granted he was not nice about it, but the fact remains that it was a kind and selfless act.

Stuffing his mouth with an omelet, he says “You snore and drool in your sleep.”

You had been drooling at the sight of it. It was a struggle to get food at this time. You hadn’t even finished the bread the boy had given to you. You had been trying to spare it so it would last you a week.

“You shouldn’t eat that in public,” you whisper. “People kill over that stuff.”

The boy rolled his eyes and reached to unbutton his bag. Letting out a grunt, the boy struggled to unlatch the bag. He pulled something out, wrapped in a hunter-green cloth.

“Really,” he huffed, ” ‘Cause I brought extras.”

Your eyes widened. Why would anyone do that for you? Why would a boy who didn’t know you do that?

“What is it,” you asked.

“Do you want it or not?”

“Y-you brought this for me?”

“Obviously.”

You snatched the green cloth from him before retreating to your corner. “T-thank you.”

“Yeah yeah, don’t mention it.”

As you scarfed down your meal, the boy made his way to the edge of the roof. The wind brushed through his light brown hair. He leaned over as he rested his hands on the ledge for support, scanning the street below. Nothing but a dead dog and trash had been at the bottom of the building.

“Why,” He turns to you. “Why were you going to jump?”

The answer was simple, there was nothing left here for you. Your parents were dead, and you had no friends. Nobody would have cared if you died. Nobody would shed a tear. Nobody would even recognize you because everyone you knew was dead. Even the kids you met on the boat were probably dead, Armin, Mikasa, and Eren. In fact, ost of Shigansia had probably died. You were probably the last survivor, but could you really call it surviving?

“I guess I should have asked why you chose not to jump.”

“I-” you stammered.

He leans back over the ledge. “You don’t have to tell me now. But eventually, you’ll have to know.”

“What’s your name?”

“Jean” he replied. “Jean Kirschtein.”

“I’m Y/N.”

As the days passed, the sky cleared up. Jean had often brought you things you needed to survive. You guys talked about things you liked and wanted to do. You ran around like children do, chasing each other with sticks. He was starting to become a friend, but not just any friend, your best friend. Your only friend. But you had wondered if it would last forever.

“Hey, Jean,” you say, brushing your fingers through his hair, as he lies in your lap.

“Yes?”

“What’s your mom like?”

Jean paused before speaking. He spent most of his days with you, away from his family. He didn’t always get along with them. They would argue and fight all the time. Although, he was the one who did do most of the arguing.

He sighs. “ Let’s just say, she’s an old hag.”

“I’m serious.”

You looked up at the pitch-black sky. What was it like to have a mother? You had forgotten about yours. You couldn’t remember how she looked or what her laugh sounded like. You hadn’t even remembered what she did for a living. What kind of mother was she? Did she nag a lot? Was she home often? Did you guys fight a lot? You couldn’t remember, and every time you tried, you would get a sharp pain in your temple.

“Jean, I don’t remember her” you admitted.

“Who,” he snored.

You had been so in your head that you hadn’t even realized your friend had fallen asleep. You stared at him, your eyes analyzing all the little details in his face. The moonlight highlighted his cheekbones. His hair fell messily over his eyebrows. He looked so peaceful. He was always so tense, and angry. There was really no way to describe it.

“My mom. I don’t remember her. I don’t remember her face. I don’t remember her laugh. Her smile. The color of her eyes. The sound of her voice. I forgot everything.”

The tears began spilling out of your eyes again. It pained you, trying to remember them when you couldn’t. All you could remember was the sight of blood and the smell of rotten flesh. That was hard to forget. Death was hard to forget. The blue sky was slowly devoured by gray clouds, followed by rain engulfing your tears.

You shook Jean. “Wake up. It’s raining.”

Jean brushed you off, cursing under his breath. You sighed, lifting the boy’s head off of your lap. You lifted jean, wrapping his arm around your neck. You wobbled, trying to gain a better footing. You make your way down the stairs, holding onto the wall and rusted railing for support. The weight of your feet on the steps made a creak with each step.

When you reached the bottom step, you ran head first into an older man about a foot taller than you. You had fallen into your ass, your friend still sound asleep next to you. Next to the tall, droopy-eyed man stood a pretty girl that looked much younger than him. She had been surrounded by a kind aura, bright enough to outshine the sun.

“Watch where you’re going,” the old man scoffed.

The girl hit his shoulder. She smiled and turned to you. She held out her hand, waiting for you to take it. You looked up at her in awe. She was warm. You took her hand and stood up. She looked at you with kind eyes and looked at Jean.

“Hey, wait, I recognize the little shit” the old man said.

“Y-you do,” you asked.

“Yeah, I do.”

“Well, if that’s true, why don’t you carry him for this young cutie, Oluo?”

Oluo rolled his eyes and proceeded to lift the boy. Oluo had better things to do, but one tiny detour wouldn’t be too much of a hassle. At least, the young woman said.

“Wait, where are you taking him?”

“Home,” Oluo spat.

“Oluo, you don’t have to sound so rude you know?”

“Yeah yeah.”

“I don’t think we introduced ourselves,” the young girl said, “My name’s Petra, and this is my squad mate Oluo. We’re scouts.”

“Scout? So does that mean you’ve seen Titans too?”

Everything got quiet. You looked down at your shadow. Your feet following the shadows of the others.

“I- I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have asked.”

“It’s fine. Yes, we’ve seen them. We’ve killed them as a matter of fact.”

You lifted your head back up in curiosity. Could humans really rise above and kill the monsters that lurked just beyond the wall? Could we really somehow eradicate all of them?

“Y/n, stop tickling me,” Jean mumbled.

Your soft giggle brought a smile upon Petra and Oluo’s face. Oluo scowled as soon as Petra pointed it out. Their laugh, their smile, the way they interacted with each other reminded you of your parents. Of course these two had been younger.

“Kid,” Oluo sighed, “Do you wanna be a scout?”

“Why do you ask?”

“Because, you’ve got the look of someone that’s been through some deep shit. And we need more people.”

You’d never even thought of being in the military. All you ever had thought of was being a doctor. You wanted to be someone that could save and heal people. You wanted to be like Dr. Jaeger. You had admired him for a while.

-flashback-

“Doctor Jaeger!!!”

Grisha Jaeger looked up to see a man holding a young child in his arms. His eyes were red and his voice sounded shaky. The doctor stood up and rushed to the door, opening it to see a sickly child. They were shivering, sweat soaked the poor things clothing. Their silent wails startled the man.

“Come in, put her on the table,” he commanded.

Your father placed you on the mattress. It had a metal frame that had started rusting. The clinic smelled like death. There were men with new bandages on their heads. They had just come back from a mission outside the walls. Needless to say, many of them weren’t going to make it. However, Dr. Jaeger still took care of them. They were alone. Their families had long since passed on, and all of their friends were dead.

“Mr. y/f/l/n, I’ll need you to step out, I don’t need you to get sick too. You were lucky, this was my last bed,” the doctor walked to your bed, a tray of needles and other materials in his hand, “I’m gonna do my best to make sure you get all better, okay?”

You nodded, then looked at your father. He kissed your forehead, and said goodbye. His tears dropped off of his chin onto your forehead. You wished he could stay with you, hold your hand, and wipe your tears. Alas, you knew that could not happen.

“Okay, kiddo, show me where it hurts.”

You pointed to your head and ears. You had been hurting for several days, but in fear of causing your parents to close down the bakery, you held it inside. You held in the pain until you collapsed.

“Have you felt cold?”

You nodded.

“Okay. I need you to keep this on your forehead, while I look inside your ears.”

-four hours later-

“Hey, kid,” a man whispered, “How old are you?”

“I’m 8.”

The man looked down at a picture he was holding. The picture was falling apart. It had singed corners and it looked as though it was ripped in half.

“I have a son your age.”

“What’s his name?”

“His name is Marco. He’s got the biggest hazel colored eyes. He’s got kisses from the sun all over his face. That boy is the sweetest...brightest...and most warm smile I’ve ever seen.”

The man had been brought back from behind the walls. His legs had been crushed from being grabbed by a Titan. The damage was permanent, and the internal bleeding from the incident would eventually kill him.

“Do you know what you wanna be when you grow up?”

You had never really thought about it yet. You’d assumed you’d stay in your parents bakery forever. It was the only thing you’d ever known.

“No.” You looked down at your hands.

“Well, promise me, you won’t join the military,” he turned to you,” The only thing you’ll ever experience is death. Finish school, get married, and raise a family. Live.”

You didn’t respond. You could not understand what the man had been trying to say. I mean how could you? You’re only 8 years old. A future like that wasn’t really on your mind. Death wasn’t on your mind, it was the last thing on your mind.

“Okay y/n l/n, it’s time for another dose.”

-one day later-

The sound of raindrops violently beating on the window greeted you from your rest. It was the first time in a while that you had gotten a full night's sleep. You rubbed your eyes until the crust had fallen off. You turned to the bed of the man you had talked to. Dr. Jaeger was standing over it. His hands were intertwined with each other. The dead flowers in the vase on the sill had been replaced with new ones.

That’s when you knew. That’s when you knew you wanted to be a doctor.

-flash back is now over because I suck at transitioning-

“Look, you don’t have to be one now. But you should think about it when you’re of age,” he said.

Oluo stopped in front of a two story house. It looked well kept and had a sign on it that read Kierstein.

“Looks like we’re here.”

Oluo put Jean on the floor. He had been sleeping like a baby, you almost didn’t want to wake him up. He looked peaceful, until a snot bubble appeared. The sound of it popping jolted Jean awake.

“NO MOM DON’T LOOK AT MY SKETCHBOOK,” he yelled.

You had let out an obnoxious snort. Jean furrowed his eyebrows and turned his head. He wrapped his arms across his chest, huffing and puffing like a baby.

Oluo and Petra eventually had to leave. You watched them walk away, leaving you and Jean alone on the doorsteps. The laughter subsided.

“You know, making fun of people is rude,” Jean scolded, “Where are we anyways?”

“Jeanie, my sweetheart.”

A voluptuous woman with kind, green eyes, burts out the door, wrapping the boy in her arms.

“Where have you been, my boy?!!!”

That must be- wait, I recognize her. But where? Where do I know this woman from?

“Mom, please stop. You’re embarrassing me.”

Jean’s mom put him down with a pouty face. She’d only missed her son everyday. She didn’t know where he was going, or what he was doing.

“I’m sorry, I was just worried-,” she turned, spotting your figure in the corner of her eye, “Jean, you didn’t tell me you had yourself a little cutie.”

Jean turned to hide his tomato red face. “They’re just my friend.”

“I didn’t think you had any friends, but I’m glad you found one.”

“M-mom,” you stumbled back.

That’s when it hit you. The day of the attack, a woman had visited your mom's bakery before it happened. It hadn’t crossed your mind, you thought she’d have died. It didn’t make sense to you, but when does fate ever make sense?

“Oh, you poor thing, you’re that child of y/m/f/n, from Shiganshina. Why don’t you come inside with us?”

Abstract: We study the possibilities of using wiring which utilizes the optic nerves to connect to the brain in order to create a more natural interface between the integrated circuits of the computer chips and neurological processes. Our research group has modeled the interactions between the data read on crystalline silicon (through the use of gallium-ion beams) and the same data which can be imprinted onto neurons. Our theoretical data can be found in our earlier paper, AKS-899.079.1, but a larger grant fund is required in order to test these processes in a practical matter.

“Good news everybody! We got the grant!”

A smattering of cheers came from the assembled scientists. Anna applauded with them, feeling a grin stretch across her face. This had been their life’s work, and finally - finally - someone seemed to be taking an interest in it. Their lab had struggled along here for years, barely managing to keep on a quarter of the staff they needed. 

She waved over Jensky, project leader, holding up two of the drinks she had managed to…borrow from the shop down the way. Look - the money hadn’t arrived yet, and what they had right now would barely cover the cost of an actual party. If they spent that, the financial inspectors would see they’d spent their entire budget on one party. Good luck getting another grant if that went down.

Jensky strolled over, glancing around the party. “I wasn’t aware we could afford so many different types of drinks,” she said dryly. “Especially since the shop which sold those said, and I quote, ‘if we ever see any of you lab types in here again we’ll burn your whole bloody place to the ground’. Interesting, is it not?”

“So they don’t see us,” Anna said, offering her a glass. “Come on. Lighten up a little.”

“I am lightened,” she replied with a smile. She raised her glass. “Come on. To funding.”

“To funding,” Anna echoed. Then she spat out the drink. “What the hell is this?” she asked, staring at the reddish liquid in her cup. “What did I just drink? The bottle said it was vintage 2345!”

“Ah,” Jensky said, raising a finger, “if you knew the owners of that shop like I do, then you’d know that back room - the one with the broken door - is actually where they store their batches that don’t quite work out. Using old bottles, of course - why waste time making new ones?”

“Screw you,” she said cheerfully, sinking back into her chair. “When that grant money comes we’ll finally be able to get some real drinks. Hell, we might be able to get a brewery in here if they’ve given us as much as we applied for.”

“Actually…” Jensky glanced away for a second, “we might not be in here much longer. I haven’t had much time to go over the approval form, but it looks like they might be moving us to the government laboratory. It’s the Eyring building, over by the docks.”

“That place? Why would we need something like that?” The Noah Eyring Building, or the NEB to everyone who lived there, was a decommissioned hangar that had been used to build the biggest ships in the fleet. The kind of ships that when you were called somewhere, you had to take a smaller ship just to get there in time. “What do they think we’re going to try to put these implants in? Whales or something?”

“Or something, yes.”

“Well, tell them we’re not. That what we’re going to be working on for the next few years is probably going to consist of zebrafish and mice.” She shook her head. “Government, right?”

“…Right.” Her eyes flicked left, then right.

Anna frowned. “There’s something you’re not telling me about this contract.”

“What? No - there’s nothing-“

“Livia. I have known you for ten years, and you are absolutely the worst liar I have ever met. Why are they giving us NEB, and what’s making you nervous about it?”

She sighed. “Fine. The Charter’s giving us Eyring because they want to be able to keep an eye on us.”

“Keep an-? There’s a war going on and they think that we’re going to be a threat? If we wanted to, we could just have left with all those other-“

“I know,” she cut in. “But talking like that is what actually gets the government after you.” With a grimace, Jensky swirled the brown liquid in her cup and then downed it in a single gulp. “Back room too?”

Anna nodded. “So what is it? Why do we need our very own über-lab just to try to mess with some fish’s brain?”

“That’s the…er, issue. It’s the war, you see. Charter’s looking to…accelerate the schedule, you might say. Get things moving a bit faster and deployed on the field. I don’t think results from fish fit into their view of that.”

“So?” she asked, feeling like she was missing something.

Jensky hesitated, the muscles in her face tightening. “They want us to start experimenting on human subjects.”

“WHAT?” She stood, almost knocking her chair over in the process. “They want us to do WHAT?”

“You heard me. Charter wants human testing to get field deployment. One of the core conditions for the grant.”

“And you ACCEPTED this?” She shook her head, still not quite believing it. “I - you - why?”

“Because I had to. Because our lab was failing and we weren’t going to be able to save it otherwise. Because I wanted us to all be able to stay together and keep doing this work we’re doing.”

“No - no - no, you don’t understand,” she said. “I worked on those models. You remember what we found there, right? What we published?”

“I-“

She ignored Jensky, too angry to care. “Because I know you do. I know you know exactly what that paper says. Exactly who they’re going to get for these ‘human subjects’!”

“Anna, I don’t think you-“

“SHUT UP!” She slammed her fist down on the table. “We said ‘developing brains’! Developing brains! They’re asking you to experiment on children! And you - you - accepted!”

She realized that the room had gone very quiet. Sam and Nick had simply frozen in the middle of their conversation, eyes wide, while Nath glanced back and forth between the two of them, brows lowered. Good. They deserve to know. “Anything you want to tell us, Liv?” Nick drawled after a long pause. “Maybe something we ought to know?”

Jensky slumped back in her seat. “It’s true,” she said with a small shrug. “Make of it what you will, but it’s true.”

“Well then.” Nick strolled over to where the two of them were still staring each other down. “Besides the fact that that’s about eight different kinds of screwed up, as far as I know it’s also that many kinds of illegal. Hell, I’m pretty sure even the damn Geneva Conventions have something to say about-“

“And who, exactly, is going to enforce that?” Sam asked. “The faction currently employing us? Or the one we’re at war with? Come on now. Who?”

“You’re siding with experimenting on children?”

“Hey.” He raised his hands in a not-me gesture. “I’ve worked for this my whole life. And really, what’s the difference? We were always going to be using humans sooner or later - that’s what our model is based on. This is just sooner.”

“There. Is. A. Difference,” Anna growled. “A difference between testing it on people and giving it to people. You know that.”

“Please,” Jensky said. “We’re finally funded. We can finally have a real lab and actual equipment. I did this for you. For all of you. Don’t give it up for-“

“For what? Morals?” Nick did a passable impression of her, although the accent was wrong. “Come on guys, don’t let pesky things like child experimentation bother you. We have money now so it’s okay.”

“Really, Nick? That’s the best you have?”

“If you really need me to debate with you on the ethics of, let me remind you, child experimentation, then I think I’m actually good, thank you very much.”

Jensky sighed. “Then it appears we are at an impasse. Two against accepting, and-“

“Wait,” Anna broke in. “There’s a choice? We can still send it back and say we don’t want their money if-“

“Two against,” she continued, “and two for. Nath, we’re going to need your input.”

He jumped. “Me?”

“Yes,” both Sam and Nick said at the same time. Then they turned to glare at each other.

Nath spoke slowly, choosing his words. “Well,” he said, “as far as I can see, there’s no actual evidence that we’re actually going to be experimenting on children.”

“But our paper-“

“Anna, the government never reads scientific papers. Ever. It’s a war. They’re throwing funding at literally anything they think might help.”

“So you’re siding with them then,” she said bitterly. “I would never have guessed.”

“I’m just going to see how things go. I’ll make my decision once I can get more-“

“You have the information you need, Nath,” Nick said. “Whether it’s children or not, the Charter is still asking us to experiment on people. Will you really stand for that?”

“I’ll stand where I choose,” he replied stiffly. “And right now, that’s here.”

Anna hissed out a breath. “Fine then. Come on, Nick,” she said, turning and walking for the door. She knew she’d probably break down later over this, but she didn’t care. Right now, she wanted nothing more than to get away from these people.

“Wait! Anna!” she heard Jensky say. She ignored her, pushing open the door. Then she just kept walking, down the cold metal hallway and towards the door at the far end of it. “Please!”

Sam shouted something after her, which she dimly assumed was an insult. Nick, catching up with her, turned around and snapped back “See you in Nuremberg!” Then she was outside under the grey and starless night, walking with her head down. Where she was going, she didn’t know. Just…away. Far, far away.

6 months into the COVID-19 pandemic and this is the week that the wrestling world was hit all around with positive tests. Most affected seems to be NXT and AEW. While no cases have been publicly confirmed on the NXT, RAW or SmackDown roster this week by WWE, reports are that there was quite a bit of movement with storylines being rewritten and some superstars not being in attendance. Meanwhile, on AEW, #1 contender Lance Archer is out due to the coronavirus.

It’s hard to believe that the NXT #1 contender’s match was supposed to be KUSHIDA vs. Cameron Grimes, Bronson Reed, Timothy Thatcher and Kyle O’Reilly. No disrespect intended to those 5, but the lack of superstar talent is quite striking. It would be hard to believe that the folks running NXT (yes, you Triple H and Shawn Michaels), wanted it to be that way. Unfortunately, there’s no transparency in the WWE, so we’ll never really know. The WWE should be very transparent and honest when dealing with the pandemic and its effects on the product. But then again, this is the same company that still hasn’t come clean on why Roman Reigns wasn’t around during WrestleMania and the months afterwards.

The other thing that’s really bugging me these days about the WWE? Disqualifications. It’s lazy booking and the WWE is relying on it 2-3 times a show these days. It’s unnecessary. Please stop!

There was absolutely NOTHING I loved about RAW this week. So utterly disappointed in how the go-home show before Clash of Champions was laid out. From the start of the show where it’s announced that RETRIBUTION has contracts to their ridiculous names (T-BAR, Mace & Slapjack) and masks (childish!) to the cluster of a chaos #!* that was the main event, it has now set up RETRIBUTION for utter failure! The five main members of Dominki Dijokovic, Dio Maddin, Shane Thorne, Mia Yim and Mercedes Martinez has been undercut and has little or no chance to survive without a major happening at Clash. Elsewhere, Drew McIntyre vs. Keith Lee has been a utter waste of time as a backdrop for Randy Orton, who continues to be doing some of his best work of his 20-year career. That promo, including a nice catch of himself, was spot-on. I like him going over this Sunday!

RAW Underground had its moments with Braun Strowman having a good night and even Dolph Ziggler getting a victory. The right team, Andrade & Angel Garza got the tag team title match against The Street Profits Sunday night.

Kudos to Kyle O’Reilly. i don’t think anyone saw him running the table and winning the Gauntlet Eliminator Match. Plus, let’s be honest, no one saw him being in the match to begin with. But, having said that, while the five-man match lacked star firepower, the match itself was very good. I, personally, saw KUSHIDA going over but it’s nice to see O’Reilly got his day in the sun vs. Finn Balor at NXT:TakeOver. It’ll be an enjoyable match with a predictable outcome. Time will tell just how much COVID-19 affected the booking here and who was available, but NXT, as usual, made the best of a bad situation.

The Women’s Battle Royale for a shot at the NXT Women’s Championship was entertaining as hell! Yes, I”m a Kacy Catanzaro mark, so it was fun to see her make the final four with all the fancy footwork and antics that should make her an annual entrant into the Royal Rumble. Having Candice LeRae go over to win it to makes absolute sense! Now, with LeRae having a title match at NXT:TakeOver and husband Johnny Gargano ready to face Damian Priest for the NXT North American Championship has the makings of a double-gold night for the Gargano Way. Maybe we’ll get an Edge/Lita type celebration.

Family affair – Roman Reigns being blunt that “It will never be you, because it will always be me” line was killer. But, Jey Uso’s reaction, with emotion and desparation was fantastic. I’m invested! Short, sweet and no in-ring fisticuffs. And then, one Superman punch and the tonuge-lashing from the Universal Champion. When Reigns said he’ll feed my family with this title and told Uso that he should take the payday and the ass-whooping, he’s not far from the truth. The most impactful 3:00 of Friday night.

Alexa Bliss – First off, the match with Lacey Evans was very good. Secondly, the addition of The Fiend’s red lighting causing Bliss to absolutely lose control was fitting. Then, the look from Bliss to Roman Reigns on the ramp was the cherry on the SmackDown sundae. Delicious!

Wasted effort:

LHP feud �� We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, NO ONE wants to see a feud between the members of the Lucha House Party. Wasting it while in the midst of a tag team championship squirmish with Cesaro & Shinsuke Nakamura is just a pure waste of everyone’s time.

Otis vs. The Miz – Really not feeling the lawsuit vibe here at all. I’d rather see either team in the mix for the tag team championships.

Good stuff:

Matt Riddle – Every time he’s in the ring, this time in a losing Payback rematch against King Corbin, Riddle doesn’t disappoint. He’s on the rise and good things are ahead for the Bro Show.

How did you find out about Noblesse?: When I was in the height of my Mangareader phase, I kind of just clicked on Noblesse when the title art was getting featured as one of those ‘recently updated’ manga. (That one old pic of Rai in the white uniform and then a close up of him.) Just because. And then I, someone who had only ever read japanese manga in black and white, was blinded by the full colour art. My brain could not compute. Full colour art? Every page? Every chapter? This manhua artist was a visionary. And there’s like three hundred chapters already.  Story-wise, I got whiplash when the supposed principal of this high school bowed to the Vampire Man™ (who clearly did not look like a high schooler imo but somehow was blending in anyway). But this interaction really interested me - immediately alluding to a history between these characters that I wanted to know. And then Rai started high school and M-21 and M-24 go kekeke~ and Rai couldn’t open doors and them pure jokes about Rai being a fish out of water were delightful. Also, in the early chapters Franken’s power was bright pink! And I gobbled that up I loved his pink killing powers how gorgeous. Yes, murder Mary and Jake with pink neon lightning while grumbling about getting vampire drool on your neat clothes.

That scene where Franken and Rai are having tea. It’s not a happy scene but it was huge. In a world where love feels very...cheap? in media, I don’t really like shipping and platonic relationships just appeal to me more. Unless there’s something that really draws me in I’m not that interested. I mean, there’s doumeki and yashiro, and victor and yuri and other ships that are great! But in the beginning of last year I got into Franken and Rai. Writing Who is the Monster really made me realise that Franken and Rai are romantic to me. Really getting to flesh out what’s up between them and making up in-character interaction changed the direction of the fic. It’s like that saying where - I wrote the characters the way they wanted to go. And where they wanted to go was be in deep love with each other to the point of self destruction. Hm.

Back-to-School Update: questionMark Audiobook, Project C, and DARCs

Hello, everyone, and welcome back to the world’s worst writing blog.

First and foremost: yes, I did go back to school this past week. I was going to post an update about that sooner but, yeah, I couldn’t because I was too busy with school. 

How ‘bout that.

So what does this mean? It means that I will be considerably less active on here and on social media in general, although I have the Tumblr app on my phone now and it surprisingly works, so that kind of makes up for the lack of activity. Ish. 

This also means that there won’t be nearly as much time to write, so progress will be very slow. However, that doesn’t mean I don’t have some REALLY big news. 

First of all, if you’ve seen my updates on Facebook and Twitter, you’ll know that the questionMark audiobook is now in production. We were fortunate enough to get the very talented Kane Prestenback to narrate it, and from what we’ve heard of it so far, he does a fantastic job. You can read a little more about him below:

At this point, the release date for the audiobook is up in the air, but I’ll let you know as soon as we know.

Our second order of business is a tiny update on Project C, which may not sound like a big deal to everyone else, but it’s something very exciting for me.

I finished my draft of Project C.

Now, what does this mean? If you recall my bimonthly goals post, I mention that not only would finishing this draft knock off one of the six goals I need to complete by the end of February, but it also means that it would mark the first time I wrote a novel-length manuscript all the way through, the final word count being about 56,000 words.

That’s right: I finished a novel.

Granted, it’s a rewrite of S. T. Hoover’s draft for our collab, and even though I helped outline and it was my idea in the first place, I technically didn’t make it from scratch and--don’t ruin this for me.

Progress on Project C is also good from a writeblr perspective because once it’s revealed/released, I’ll be able to do writing tags again, since doing them for short stories is very awkward, and I feel like the characters of Project C are very tag-worthy.

Finally, the DARCs. Now, in case you missed the holiday update, here’s a brief explanation of how those came about:

I’m stupid.

Therefore, I forgot to factor ARCs into the questionMark schedule (which, honestly, would have helped a lot). So, to make up for that, I’m going to start implementing them now, after the book has been out for about a month and a half. 

That’s right: delayed Advanced Review Copies.

What I worked out with Project 89 Media (questionMark’s publisher) was that I could give away 25 digital copies of questionMark intended for people to read and review, either on Amazon, their book/writing/anything else blogs, or on their social media platform of choice. I’m again going to refer you back to this post I made about how important reviews are, since, yeah, they’re pretty important and every review counts.

Now, I’m probably going to make a post on this later going more in depth about the specifics of the DARCs, but here are the bullet points:

A whopping majority of the people who said they would beta read questionMark never got back to me, even to say they wouldn’t be able to do it anymore. So please, furthuhluvagod, only message me if you’re serious about getting a review copy.

On top of that, not to scare you guys, but I will be following up on people who get review copies, especially if it’s, like, May and I haven’t heard anything from you. Again, I normally wouldn’t be this strict, but I don’t want to have another huge waste of time like the beta reading process was. 

If you do what you say you’re gonna do, we’re gonna be fine. If not’ you’re better off just buying the book so you have the freedom to let it sit for ten years and not have me pester you once a month for it. Just food for thought.

Sorry that turned into kind of a rant near the end, but yeah, this needs to work. Again, I’m probably going to be making a separate post that goes more into detail about the process, but I’m opening it up a little early just in case anyone’s interested. 

And also, please don’t let the scary details bother you. There’s no hard deadline, but I’d like to see something at some point. Like, sometime in 2017, please. Again, as long as you plan to follow through, we’ll be fine, and your responses will be appreciated ten times more.
