But on the other hand, more recently I’d discovered a lot of people headcanon Luke as gay and I found that I liked that headcanon a lot. So, I thought well here’s an easy fix.]

Rilla is a lowly member of Senator Pooja Naberrie’s entourage, an assistant of an assistant of an assistant. This should normally mean that she’s wildly overworked but her boss has tens of assistants and Rilla is not the hardest of workers.

One day she encounters one of the Emperor’s dancing girls, a courtesan, in Rilla’s usual place. She doesn’t love the idea of someone else knowing about this spot but Rilla is curious about the world so she’s friendly. Mara Jade is the girl’s name and she’s pleasantly surprised to find someone who doesn’t know who she is and also doesn’t treat her like dirt for her assumed profession so she doesn’t correct Rilla’s assumption.

Gustavo’s Great Tortilla Tournament, week 1 recap: Trader Joe’s makes good corn tortillas?

That was a lot of eating. Evan Kleiman, Nick Liao and Connie Alvarez and I plowed through the first round of 64 tortillas. And we now have our second round contestants!

Excuse us if we don’t offer many tasting notes this time around, but we’re stuffed. We tasted each tortilla at our homes, from packs obtained that day to ensure maximum freshness. Each judge had their own personal criteria for taste, but it boiled down to whether corn tasted like corn, and whether flour had taste, period— because most retail flour tortillas in Southern California are little better than wallpaper.

As the tournament advances, we’ll have more to say on each winning contestant.

I’m not sure why we ranked Kernel of Truth—one of the big, local players in the heirloom masa scene—so low but the El Gallo Giro taco chain (which also makes great aguas frescas) ain’t no slouch, either. Nevertheless, Kernel advances.

#3 Amapola Market vs. #14 La Mano Tortilleria: Amapola.

The Downey institution rebounded from its masa debacle from a couple of years ago to beat a Pico Rivera tortilleria with one of the best tortilla labels in the Southland—literally, a photo of a hand.

Riverside for the win against the largest Latino supermarket chain in Orange County.

Casablanca is a pioneering restaurant on the Westside; Jimenez has locations only in Pomona and Santa Ana, and only make tortillas once a week. But they’re powdery and fluffy and move on into the next round.

Trader Joe’s flour tortillas aren’t better than their corn ones, so they don’t advance here versus the Culver City restaurant.

First Street is the okay brand for Smart & Final; unsurprisingly, they lose to the Frogtown restaurant.

La Fortaleza is another mass tortilla maker with a decades-long presence in Southern California. They beat Vallarta’s.

#2 Sonoratown vs. #15 Superior Grocers: Sonoratown

Sonoratown is the only entry in the tournament that doesn’t sell their tortillas retail, or in a bunch—to taste their wonder, you’ll have to go and order one of their Sonora-style burritos or tacos. Maybe they’ll sell you one individual one. That’s how precious and delicious they are. Superior Grocers stood no chance.

2. do they like each other's friends? do their friends like them?

oh my god yes when they first started dating ramona was SO eager to introduce him to everyone she's ever met – she was bringing nate along to every hangout like a little puppy in a purse just GUSHING over how much she loves him and how much everyone else will like him – and they do!

they also wholeheartedly trust each others' judgement. because of this, they don't have any reservations in being introduced to someone new!

27. what interests do they share? for interests they don't share, do they ever participate anyway?

ramona loves art museums as much as nate, so they're always keeping tabs on whatever the nearest museum's new installments are! they love wine tasting, going to bookstores, visiting local markets <;3

she loves flowers and gardens but is awful at growing things and keeping them alive (nate isn't particularly an expert either), so nate takes up reading about horticulture to build and manage a greenhouse with her <3 ramona isn't the biggest reader (and is very slow at it), but wants to get better at expanding her horizons, so nate helps find her autobiographies/biographies on artists :)

both of them love trying new things, so whether it's a new or old interest, they're up for trying it together!

3. what's their favorite thing to tease each other about?

oooh this is a good one !! ramona is rarely ever serious about anything, so she's always teasing nate about something – mainly because she wants to help alleviate his worry. he's constantly concerned everything and everyone, and he feels things so deeply that she doesn't deem serious. not that she's trying to diminish his feelings or anything, she just hates that he cares so much when it takes a massive mental toll on him! she wants to lighten the mood and make him feel better anytime he's down !!

her favorite thing to do when he frowns is trace the crease between his brows and say something like "careful, you might wrinkle" along with calling him a grandpa (lovingly) when he can't work appliances and a nerd (lovingly) all the time !! <333

nate didn't like teasing ramona much at first, but the more comfy he's gotten with her, he's open to lightly poking fun at their differences hehe like when she turns on girly pop music or bad bitch anthems in the car on full blast, or when she forces him to go to the mall with her for hours on end and subjects him to her eclectic style in the form of fashion shows right outside of the dressing room – or the fact that she can't go in a flea market or thrift store or mall or anywhere without spending more money than she has

5. how do they sleep?

RAMONA BIG SPOON RAMONA BIG SPOON !!!!!!!! ramona's always been the kind to flail around in her sleep and kick the sheets off (and kick whoever's in bed with her) – but something about curling herself around her big tall man has tamed the beast! when he's not in bed with her, she's back to flailing LMAO

14. what little things remind them of each other?

so once they're actually together, they are a cringe couple. just so cringely in love that they are ALWAYS doing corny stuff so they can think about each other throughout the day. for their anniversary one year, ramona got them matching keychains with each others' photo on it. ramona made homemade coasters with pictures of them on it. she always leaves him notes in his jacket pockets with doodled hearts and a lipstick mark. slowly the decor of their home has become a shrine of their relationship so there's no way they need the little reminders tbh!

but if i had to give a real answer, i think nate's lightened up a lot from being with ramona, so anytime he lets something roll off his shoulders, he thinks of her. and anytime ramona meets a new stranger, she tries hard to commit their names to memory, be kind to them, and leave the interaction with a little memory to carry with her (which she never did before) – just like she's seen nate do! and afterwards ramona thinks of how much their relationship has changed her for good :)

ramona has a thing for good legs and a good smile – and nate excels in that department! she finds everything about nate physically attractive tbh but those are her favorite things hehe

nate loves her freckles/moles – he's also a "i love everything about my partner" type, but when he sees her on her days off? when she's in crop top? and sees all the freckles on her shoulders, arms, chest – the beauty marks on her neck and waist – and how they accentuate her body? yeah he blacks out

11. what good do they bring out in each other?

ramona is an extrovert, but all of her relationships and friendships are casual – nate helps her form deeper bonds. she's never been good at going below the surface level with anyone, really, because she's here for a good time not a long time! same with attachments – she's never been attached to wayhaven or any place really, she just sees it as a chapter in her life and nothing more. being with nate has helped her settle – both into herself, and into a home :)

and with nate, ramona's brought out his fun side! he's always been fun, but i think the things he's most drawn to in humans is what ramona is all about – she's spontaneous, she's always up for new experiences, and she's lives in the moment. she's not worried about her future (to her detriment sometimes) and through his exhaustive concern over her, nate's learned when he should sit back, and when he should intervene <333
