Alright. I came across someone saying that Rick "put Jason in a pedestal" and "overhyped" him by emphasizing how good looking he is and that Jason shouldn't have been so attractive looking. (Tbf tho that person made it sound like they seemed more mad bc their least favourite character was considered good looking lol) but I'll yap about the significance here anyways. Beware of a very long yapping session below.

I do understand their frustration though, because jason getting told that he looks good all the time makes it seem very shallow and unfair to the others.

And let me tell you, Jason is SUPPOSED to be gorgeous looking in everyone's eyes. He is supposed to be conventionally handsome, Rick didn't intend for his looks to be "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder " or something like Percy's (like how Piper didn't find him as impressive) Percy's is supposed to be more authentic. Percy's character isnt centred in people idolizing him, everyone can acknowledge that he's handsome looking, but it isn't in a "perfect" type of way, he's a carefree spirit and that reflects on his looks. While Jason is hardwired as this ethereal looking hero in people's eyes that not even ONE can deny that he looks good, bc ppl in Rome had set him as the "standard". Jason said this before in the lost hero, that him being a son of Jupiter, makes him feel like the support he gets is only because his dad is a very regal and intimidating figure.

That's kind of the whole point, he's supposed to look like this perfect man who can do no wrong. His "Golden noble boy" arc is literally the whole concept of his character. Why else do you think rick wrote Aphrodite approving of Jason's looks saying that he needed no improvement (which she rarely does) ?

Because Jason is supposed to be put like a statue to admire and idolize, that's ALSO why rick made sure to add that Jason looks like a Roman sculpture, bc that's like a metaphor for his inner conflicts. The guy was put like an artifact for people to ogle at in camp Jupiter ever since he was a kid of 4. That's part of the tragedy.

Annabeth said it perfectly “Annabeth tried to hide it, but she still didn’t completely trust the guy. He acted too perfect - always following the rules, always doing the honorable thing. Also, Jason is supposed to mirror Percy. And let's be real. Rick put Percy in a VERY high pedestal looks wise, aswell, Not just Jason. And that's okay.

Rick made Hazel mistake Percy for a literal god because he was just that good looking (tbf, in a way, when I was younger, I found this to be a little bit of an exaggeration, bro was covered in mud and seaweed and was compared to a god, it was rlly funny to a 10 year old me 😭 yeah but don't mind this though, this was just a younger me jealous that I couldn't be as pretty as Percy was in mud lol) If Percy can be "hyped" up so "unrealistically" in that particular situation then so can Jason. They are both literal half gods, so unrealistic praise is very normal) and rick also made sure to emphasize that almost all the teen characters had a crush on Percy. So apparently that isn't called putting a character in a pedestal but Jason's is? They are BOTH put in pedestals, because they're both heroes.

Jason and Percy are supposed to be equals, so both of them being in the top two when it comes to looks makes SENSE. Because people are supposed to argue about who is better looking, since they're written as foils.

You cannot expect rick to make Percy look like a god and Jason look like a rat 😭 then there's no point of having them as parallels if one has the upper hand in something. Rick did a good job by conveying that they are BOTH attractive, but in different ways. That's why the Percy/Jason looks debate always have mixed answers.

Jason getting complimented by Aphrodite, the GODDESS of beauty, for his looks and her saying that he didn't have anything to "fix" in his face BC it already looks gorgeous = Percy getting compared to a gorgeous Roman god by hazel. They are both equal comparisons in slightly different tones.

anyway, if you look at free to play guides and articles, recommending 4 stars only teams, and these team don't work for you, it's not just "skill issue". tho ofc average player will not have as much practice as ppl who play this game for a living. artifacts play a huge role, if you don't have good artifacts, even broken 5 stars won't help in the abyss, at least.

but also, these guides almost always use c6 r5 characters without mentioning, and for many 4 star constellations matter SO MUCH. some characters straight up unplayable without cons.

so i wanted to go thru the list of most popular meta 4 stars and list the importance of their cons and weapons just so you can have reference if it makes sense for you to use them:

Xiangling - literally unplayable in serious abyss teams before C4. C4 gives plus 40% burst duration, at which point she's broken. She wants r5 catch or basically any 5 star spear, as long as you have like 200% er. 4 piece emblem set, no options, crit hat, pyro cup, er\em\atk sands, should have at least 100 EM overall.

Bennet - his importance con is C1, bc otherwise he either heals or gives atk buff, but most teams that want him will be ok with C0 Benny. Unless it's a nche team that relies on Benny's pyro infusion, then only C6. wants a sword with highest base attack you have. skyward blade is probably his best option bc it has er and high base atk, aquila favonia has higher atk, but you'll need more er, for f2p options sumeru craftable sword is best option, but if your team REALLY struggles with energy, you can use favonius sword. benny's weapon needs to be max level.

Xingqiu - C0 feels so bad to play, bc it's so hard to get enough energy off-field. Teams that want him like pyro carries with vape or hyperbloom will still be playable, but just feel kinda bad. Starts feeling ok at C2, at C6 becomes comparable to C0 Yelan. Wants sacrificial sword R5 or at least R3, if your sac sword is lower than r3, it's better to use favonius sword. 4 piece emblem set or 4 piece noblesse set if used with hypercarries like arle who cares about atk. use ER sands if you can't get enough energy to burst off cool down.

Fischl - pretty good at C0, but truly broken at C6. Wants stringless bow or 5 star bows. 4 piece golden troupe best option, but can work with thundering fury or combos of 2 pieces

Yao Yao - actual free to play hero, already great at C0, her cons basically don't matter. Event hp healer staff or just fav lance is good. if used in a team with majority dendro damage like alhaitham or tighnari, etc, then use deepwood, if used to just proc aggravate with like clorinde\keqing\yae\raiden + fischl, then 4 piece instructor is her best option.

Sucrose - becomes playable at C1. When guides say she's as good as kazuha, they mean C6, and it's a lie anyway, bc what they mean is that on paper damage calculations are similar. But in actual play her grouping is nowhere near kazuha and her burst actually ungroups enemies when unlucky. Wants sacrificial fragments and 4 piece vv with EM stats, no options.

Kuki - another f2p hero and hyperbloom goddess, good at C0, great at C2, immortal at C6. get as much EM as you can on her, should be near 1000, weapon usually iron sting. doesnt care about ER or anything else, minmax EM

Chevreuse - already good at C0 if you have strong pyro or electro carries. at C6 pretty broken. ONLY good in teams with only pyro and electro, nothing else, both need to be there. wants HP stats.

Beidou - good against 2+ enemies, but CANNOT trigger hyperbloom. Can be okay at C0, good at C4, pretty good at C6.

Thoma - for burgeon can use C0.

Layla - decent shield only after C2.

Noelle - usually shown in Furina teams as a driver, becomes decent at C6.

After a mission you were patching sloan up as they talked about a new artifact they recently found. Cleaning their wounds as they take in a huff, holding in their breath as it stings a little. You glance up at them “its okay, I’m almost done cleaning” you say continuing to patch them up. Sloan lets out an exhale “I was just trying to be cool” they laugh a little as their eyes watch you work diligently. Admiring your features as your focus makes their stomach feel giddy, without realizing their smiling you look up. Hearing your laugh caught them off guard for a moment but they smiled a bit bigger “what?” They said a bit confused. “You’re all banged and bruised but you smile like it didn’t even happen” you said chuckling, after the discarding the bloody alcohol wipes. “I can’t die, I’ve more stuff to see.” Sloan lightheartedly says, watching you set up healing equipment.

Their treatment went smoothly, once you were just finishing up Baptiste walked into the infirmary “oh hello you two” he said surprised making his way to his area of the room. “Don’t mind me just needed to grab something” he says nonchalantly as he opens up his filing cabinet, digging through it. You turned your attention back to venture after you both greeted him, “everything is all good, just get a meal in and plenty of water before going to sleep. If anything feels off you know where to find me” you say softly to venture with a smile. “Uh yeah! Thank you so much, I’ll see you at dinner then if you want to sit together?” Venture asks as they hop off the table looking at you as they fidget with a zipper on their jacket. Studying your face once more, taking in your features with admiration. They look at you as if you hung the stars and moon. “yeah I’m down, I’ll see you there” you say with a smile that makes their stomach feel all giddy again. “Cool… cool” Sloan says with a smile before exiting and saying bye to both you, and Baptiste. “Whew doctor! Looks like you have a little admirer” Baptiste says in a playful way as he looks at you and winks. “Sloan? What? No no” you laugh a little brushing it off as your heart beats a little faster and you let out a chuckle. “We’re just friends” you add. Is better at doing spells for other people, when doing spells for himself he tends to overcomplicate things

I cannot stress he is good at this type of casting.

Mermaids and Sirens are almost identical, with few overt physical differences

Sirens will typically have colored iris', 2 finned gills, longer tounges, boned ears and uniformly sharp teeth

Mermaids have colored scalera, 3 smooth gills, finned ears and sharp canines

This isn't a rule, and in modern times there are few families of sirens or mermaids that havent mixed with other monsters at some point

Both species have shape-shifting abilities.

Mermaids have two forms, and can switch between them at will, though the process takes hours and the mermaid will have to stay in either aquatic or land form for a couple weeks before changing again. though this wait time can be speed up with tailsmen, it's can cause health problems.

Siren can shift their features at will, including shifting from aquatic to non aquatic with no wait time, some families of Siren encourage "good breeding" and fostering shifting abilities to the point of shifting bone structure, hair, colors and gender at will. This level of shifting controll is a very desirable trait, and cannot be learned.

Alejandro is one of these few families who try to stay purely Siren

Hes a 100% Siren, but unlike his brothers he lacks any shape-shifting abilities, a flaw that has brought him great shame (this is just a genetic fluke, it's like a birth defect)

but he has both a very powerful ability to enchant his words and natural charisma. Dangerous combo.

Because of the well known knowledge that Sirens can manipulate people with ease, Alejandro semi pretends that he is a Mermaid, using his long hair to obscure his gills

He more just lets people assume hes a Mermaid and does not correct them rather than actually lying

He lies about many things but outright lying about species is a bit much

Siren Speech doesn't work as good if someone's also using magic at the same time or knows what's up about it

It doesn't work that great on Heather, Duncan or Harold point blank, or Lindsay, Beth Trent and Justin if they're shifting or shifted

Example: draws fire glyph on Chris's camper -> wants to set it on fire but not the surrounding grass and trees -> smacks the side of the camper that has the glyph on it -> profit

Lair of Mystery

The House of Mystery is Danny's lair or vacation lair(1) and ever since he outlived his friends and family(2), he's been coming to the House of Mystery whenever he needs a break from his kingly duties. Since it's the Infinite Realms, the HoM exists in every universe, but due to it not always being in the form of a literal house and difficult for outsiders to enter, it's never found. At least until now.

One day when he goes to the lair after (insert amount of time) he finds that the Justice League Dark have set up in his home. Initially, the JLD attack him but Danny puts a stop to that fast. It's his house, he can control anything inside it which includes anyone he deems an intruder. An interrogation more or less takes place, both parties are confused by the others presence, both sides get answers and are shocked by them. Danny because the JLD are a subdivision of a superhero agency that specializes in magic/the occult and the JLD because they've literally been using the house of a very powerful monarch without even knowing it.

Danny isn't angry the JLD are inside his house once he gets over the surprise. In fact, he's rather happy to have company of the non-ghost variety and is curious about their world full of superheroes and aliens. He comes to a decision. He will let the JLD continue to use his house as a base of operations if they are willing to agree to a few terms.

1. No one is to touch or use any artifacts they may find inside the HoM without his explicit permission. Some things are too dangerous for human hands to hold.

2. They seek him out of there is anything of the dead/occult variety threatening their world that they are unable to handle by themselves. (The JLD are shocked to learn of the King's past as a young hero as his explanation for this term. He misses those times and helping the JLD will also be another way to fulfill his obsession besides him being King.)

3. They spend time with him. Being the ruler of an infinitely expanding dimension gets pretty overwhelming and lonely at times. Even he needs a break. On top of missing his hero days, he misses the simpler times of being just a regular guy.

The JLD easily agree to his terms. From then on, they peacefully coexist in the HoM for many years to come. Danny is happier than he's been in a long time and so are the JLD because he's a wonderful host and has actually helped them with a few of their personal issues. Danny, having seen straight through his Captain Marvel form, gave Billy a fully furnished bedroom fit for a growing teenager and hidden from the others in the house. Danny and Billy hang out and play video games whenever they need to unwind with someone their age(3) with no secrets between them.

Danny helps Constantine with his soul contracts, seeing how they are fraying his soul and aging him prematurely. They have an easy camaraderie and sometimes share a bottle of whiskey together(4). Etc.

All is good.

Until some world ending threat of the dead/occult variety really does happen and the JLD call for Danny's help. He goes to them in full regalia with chainmail, breastplate with his hero symbol emblazoned on it, billowing, fur-collared purple cape with the cosmos displayed on the interior, a black crown incased in ice above his head with a sword of ghost ice in the hand that wears the newly dubbed Ring of (Peace?)(5). He doesn't even have to do anything. His presence alone is enough to intimidate the world ending threat into complete submission and is easily sent back into the Infinite Realms to face judgement for attacking the Living Realm.

This is how he's introduced to the rest of the Justice League. It's your choice on how they react and what happens beyond this point if you decide to take it further.

(3) Danny is able to change the age of his form to an extent, an ability he inherited from his mentor, Clockwork. He uses it when he feels it would make it easier for other people to relate to him. He also has an eldritch form that he doesn't like to use in front of others unless he absolutely has to. You can leave any part of this detail out if you want to. I just thought it would be kinda cool and also a more subtle way of showing how powerful he is now.

(*) Also, I read the House of Mystery is in a place called the Dreaming, a realm ruled by Morpheus the god of sleep and dreams. If this is truly the case, would it be plausible to say that Nocturne is just another one of Morpheus' forms? Would that mean the House of Mystery is in Nocturne's territory? If so, are Danny and Nocturne friends now? 👀

I despise Sentinel so in this post i'm gonna be shit talking him.

So we all know Sentinel is not the best mech- he's quite terrible really; he's egoistical, selfish and a total jerk to everyone below him. He's known to be rude and blaming shit on others- just like he blamed the Archa-7 incident on Optimus even tho he was in charge of the operation.

Optimus- he never liked Sentinel, the only reason he stuck by him was because of Elita. Sentinel wanted to have Elita as a sparkmate so he pretended to be the good bot, but Elita chose Optimus who was also interested in her. The two got together right before the incident. Optimus never said it but he believes Sentinel sabotaged their mission so they don't get to be together...

He wasn't any better when he was handed duty at the military training camp that Bulkhead and Bee ended up in. The little yellow mini reminded him so much of his failed love interest he couldn't help but connect all the things Elita hurt him with and punish the mini for them. Bee was constantly on the worst kinds of chores the soldiers in training were supposed to do, not only that but he also made sure to talk down on him as much as possible to make sure he drops the sad and soft attitude and toughens up to be cold like him. And it seemed to work... until the little pimple decided to stick with the other bigger pimple name Bulkhead and started "fighting back". They both caused trouble and annoyed Sentinel to the limits, on top of that he found of that one of the other officers there has arrested one of his favorites, Wasp, under the accusation of him being a Decepticon Spy. And it was from Bee's and some other bot's prompting. He never bothered to get into details but it was enough to kick him out the first chance he caused trouble- even if it wasn't even his fault.

He wasn't surprised to see the failure of a friend Optimus have him on board of the repair crew. He didn't believe when said failure called on the emrgency line telling they have found the artifact the Cybertron's forces were looking for centuries now since it disappeared. He wasn't concerned when they were reported missing along with the Decepticon ship's signal next to theirs. He actually didn't want to bother looking himself but was put on that duty anyway.

Meanwhile Team Prime has ended up on Earth and spend good couple years just minding their business with Sari in peace before the 'cons showed up. Of course, only few months later the dread of Sentinel Prime has seeped down to the planet and Sari got to experience it first hand, although with Optimus and others there it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

So Sentinel and his crew (Jazz and Jettwins, sometimes Blurr and Longarm join in) have the ship circle the Earth's atmosphere in order to prevent any more Decepticons from coming there. Meanwhile Team Prime is weighted down with the responsibility of collecting and protecting the Allspark Shards, since they were doing a good job before the Elite Guard showed up. In rare cases do the Elite Guard actually come down to fight along them. It's most oftem Jazz who has to remind Sentinel that this is a repair crew and they don't have proper weaponry to fight so they kinda NEED to be down there.

Going back to Team Prime- Bumblebee is not having a good time since Sentinel came to earth. he thought he's finally found a piece of the universe he can call home but of course, this stupid awful person had to come and ruin it all. Bulkhead is not happy either, especially since he knows what Bumblebee went thru- he knew little of Bumblebee's past and sparklinghood but that little information he did know was enough to send his Spark to the deepest end of sadness. He sworn to protect his little buddy, the promise was set in stone when they became Amicas right after the horrible Wasp has somehow gotten on Earth just few weeks after Sentinel and tried to replace Bee.

...But that didn't stop Sentinel from what he did.

Optimus was painfully aware of the similarities between Elita and Bumblebee, he might have accidentally reffered to him as Elita when they are arguing but he never thought of him as some Elita-clone like Sentinel. He was aware of how badly Sentinel treats Bee- the mech was awfully open about it, in fact.

I imagine that at one point, Bee would actually fight back to his abuse when somehow they were left alone... only for Sentinel's final string to snap and he physically beat Bee up as punishment for standing up to him. He even threatened to put him in stockades for good few stellar cycles for every bit of slag he's done over the course of his live if Bee ever told anyone that it was him that did it. For once, Bee cooperated with him, but it was out of fear...

Bulkhead knew something was wrong, Bumblebee was activating the bond duller very often and wouldn't tell him why. Ratchet also was suspicious because the scout seemed to come back from patrols or fun rides covered in dents and damages. But he always blamed it on his clumsyness or that he had a crash while skating. Bee might be a stubborn bot and a good actor, but he is also very gullible. Especially when the one lying to him is someone he fears or trusts...

But all that illusion of "everything is okay" was broken after one fight with Megatron and his minions. Both Team Prime and Elite Guard has failed to defeat Decepticons and now Megatron had some very risky tech in his servos. Sentinel was furious, yelling at the worthless low ranks that they couldn't do something as simple as this. Jazz and Optimus tried their best to diffuse the situation but that only made Sentinel more angry, the Jettwins hid behind the others in fear of what Sentinel might do. Then Bumblebee spoke up... it was a grave mistake.

Sentinel had knocked him down and started throwing relentless punches and grabbing every bit of the mini possible just to rip it off. it was Bulkhead who grabbed and threw the vile mech off of his buddy before throwing punches himself. He actually did more damage to Sentinel than what damages he gave Bee- said yellow bot was shaking on the ground, energon spilling on his vision from the ripped off horn wound, it was only seconds before he passed out because his stress levels shot out of the scale.

Sentinel was put in arrest and Bee in medbay for monitoring after they both got fixed with the key. It was then that Ratchet brought up the topic of Bee's wounds to the rest of the group; He had notices few times where Bee came back with visible wounds and was made to sit in medbay for Ratchet to fix him. Despite what Bee said had happened he knew those were the wounds one would get from a brawl. While looking over Bee he notices few of said wounds still healing in places where he didn't fix him, the progress of each one told him he must have gotten beaten up repeatedly at different times.

Bulkhead did notice Bee sometimes having dents when he came back to base, always having the bond duller on prior to it. But he always saw a dent on him whenever he saw the scout with...

"That fragger..." Bulkhead hissed, having connected the dots already. Pure rage boiled in his system as he turned to walk out of medbay. "It was Sentinel."

Sari was sitting beside Bee and Prowl while Optimus and Ratchet tried to calm the giant down and stop him from going to Sentinel who was held somewhere in the plant and under other Guards' watch.

"Sentinel always hated Bee's guts from the moment he saw him! He always tried to make him as miserable as possible- he was almost worse than Wasp!" Bulkhead argued while the two older mechs blocked his path. "I understand tha-" Optimus tried to reason but it was no use, Bulkhead only got more mad and shouted back at him.

"NO YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND!!" None of them ever saw the big bot so angry, so steaming with rage. "If it wasn't for me, Bee wouldn't even be here!!"

They knew how much hurt and abuse Bee had endured during boot camp, Bee, with a bit of Bulk's prompting, has told them himself way before this incident. With that knowledge and what Bulkhead said just now... only one assumption could be made.

"I don't care if you kick me out or whatever- I'm not gonna let it past him! The fragger stepped far over the line." Bulkhead pushed past them both, only to be physically stopped by Ratchet's magnets just by the medbay shutter. Somehow he was persuaded to stay by Bee's side in the end...

When Bee woke up he was gently questioned by Optimus and others. Bulkhead never spoke a word, only gently nudging Bee into telling more thru their amica bond. They couldn't believe Sentinel did all that to him right under their scent sensors. They never knew how Sentinel kept his job for so long despite being morally a criminal, this- this was whole chapters of Elite Guard Code broken. Even if he was effective on field the way he commanded everything was horrible, Optimus has made a whole few-essays-worth of material on him to report.

Bee felt so awful, not only did he get tricked into yet another abuse situation he also made himself look like he doesn't trust his friends enough to tell them. He could only apologize while they comforted him.

Bulkhead came to Bee's room alone later that night, those 2 had yet to talk about what happened...

"Please, don't ever think you can't tell me anything that's bothering you. We made a promise, and I'm gonna stick to it for as long as I live." Bulkhead said after Bee had launched into the trail of apologies once again. Bee had cried himself to recharge while Bulkhead held him in a hug, the big bot refused to leave his side that night.

Bulkhead was willing to kill Sentinel in order to protect Bee and didn't care about the consequences. It showed how deep their friendship goes... Also the fact Bumblebee was suicidal at some point of his life made them even more worried about him in the first place knowing he most often hides his personal issues.

Sentinel's life was literally crumbling after this one- every bit of harrassment, torment and wrong-doing was put up against him and it didn't seem he wasn't getting out of this one. Optimus' rank has been restored and he was offered to lead the Elite Guard fleet instead of Sentinel, which he surprisingly refused. He was better with what he had now, which was the little family-like team of repair bots. Jazz and the rest of Sentinel's team were put under Optimus' charge to help out until further notice.

Bumblebee may been a little brat at times but he had a Spark of gold- despite what Sentinel (and Wasp) did to him, he felt bad for making them suffer in return. The others kept telling him they did this to themselves and that he shouldn't feel bad for it.

I fucking hate this massive chin guy. Also protec lil bean Bee! yes!

Okay but bear with me tho cause I have Headcanons

The Dread Wolf prowled through the streets of Minrathous, careful to keep to the shadows, winding a convoluted path with unerring steps through the most obscure backstreets. Overhead, the sentinel towers floated, their lyrium-powered eyes scanning for his presence. They wouldn’t find him. His agents were scattered throughout the city, simultaneously sowing confusion and protecting the elven population of the city. The magisterium would see any elf breaking curfew as a threat, even the lowliest child slave wasn’t above suspicion. The innocent must be protected as much as possible.

He rounded a corner, and immediately stepped back behind the mortar wall as a spotlight swept by, clutching the final piece of his grand puzzle to his chest. The moment it passed, he hurried onward. An elderly elven man stumbled across his path, clinging to the hand of a young woman who froze at the sight of the mage before her.

“Go,” he hissed, gesturing behind him. “Quickly. Tell any others to get to their homes.”

“Thank you,” the girl stammered, staring up at him with large, luminous blue eyes. They weren’t the right color, but so similar it drove a knife into his side.

He pushed on.

“You are in violation of curfew���…”

A shadow flitted by on quiet feet and the scream of a guardsman was cut off with a barely perceptible snick of metal. Everything was going to plan.

“The Chargers have been spotted,” the shadow whispered as it followed his steps. “They’re guarding something, but our people haven’t been able to find out what. No sign of her.”

“She’s likely the very person they’re protecting,” Solas murmured back. “Keep eyes on them, but don’t interfere unless they move first.”

The agent hesitated. “I don’t think it is her. There’s a rumor she was seen on the other side of town. Same area the Blue Wraith report came from. It’s possible The Chargers are merely a distraction, but…”

“Just keep tabs on both of them,” snapped the Dread Wolf. “And get back to work.”

The shadow melted away and Solas picked up his pace again, tugging his hood down more firmly. It didn’t bode well that Cremisius had let the former Inquisitor out of his sight, even accompanied by the most famed Slaver Slayer of the current age. He needed to hurry.

As Solas rounded another labyrinthine corner, he nearly stumbled over a small, shivering bundle pressed against the crumbling brick and swore. The creature squealed in terror and scuttled away. There was a flash of wild reddish-brown curls and fearful violet eyes. The wrong color, both, yet the same. He skidded to a halt and stared. The little bundle pressed further into the shadows, its cloak pinned at the shoulder with an all too familiar golden eye.

Solas crept forward, heart in his throat, stashing the final artifact within the folds of his cloak. The tiny cloaked figure shied away and whimpered, trembling all over. He reached forward and pulled the hood back. His own eyes stared back at him, wider, wetter, and younger. Unruly curls he knew like the back of his hand, the same color his own hair had been so many centuries past. His nose. Her rose-bud lips. A perfect chimera of their shared features.

“No,” he whispered, narrowing his eyes. “No, that’s not—…” But it was possible. She’d tracked him down not long after the Exhalted Council, specifically to yell at him. There hadn’t been much yelling.

That was almost seven years ago. And this fearful little waif couldn’t be much younger than six. He reached for her again and she shrieked, covering her face with tiny, pale hands.

“No!” She squealed. “Please don’t eat me, Dread Wolf! I won’t run away anymore, please!”

His face fell. He could feel his heart shatter like glass, the icy shards dropping down through his stomach. “Oh,” he breathed, kneeling beside her. “No, no, no, please don’t cry…I won’t harm you, da’ean.”

The child continued whimpering, curling in on herself. Watching the terror in her eyes, his own face reflected in irises he’d never forget, the image distorted by tears, tore at him as truly as a wolf’s teeth. As gently as he knew how, Solas tentatively took her by the arms and helped her to stand. When she jerked away and stumbled into the wall behind her it was like a punch to the gut.

“Where is your mother?” Whispered Solas, reaching out to take her hand even more slowly. She eyed him with an all-too-familiar suspicion, but allowed the contact, though her fingers shook.

“She went with the glowing man,” the girl sniffed and squared her little shoulders in sudden defiance. “I wanted to go with, but my Krem said I had to stay. I don’t want to stay, I want to fight with mamae, I want to fight the Dread Wolf!”

Solas couldn’t help the devastated smile that pulled at his lips. “And, da’len? What do you think, now that you’ve found him?”

The child considered him, scrubbing her face with a grubby paw. She set her chin, the same way she always had. “I don’t think you’re very scary at all,” she insisted. “You’re just tall and bald.”

An ugly snort burst from him before he could stop it. “Well, you’re quite right,” he allowed. “What is your name?”

“Mahriel,” she replied. “I already know your name. It’s Fen’Harel.”

“Yes. And your mother? What is her name?”

“Mamae.”

“Her name, child, what is her given name?”

“Her name is Mamae,” insisted Mahriel in a tone that suggested she thought him to be terribly, regrettably stupid.

Solas sighed and stood, still holding onto the girl’s hand. She was so little he nearly had to bend at the waist. “I see. At any rate, it’s not safe for you to be wandering the streets alone. There are people much more scary than I who wouldn’t shy away from harming a child.”

“More dangerous than you?” She asked quietly.

Solas gave her a grim smile. “No.”

She considered this and seemed to come to the conclusion that as long as she had the more dangerous scary person on her side, the other scary people shouldn’t pose much of a problem. “Okay.” She lifted her arms and, clearly unaccustomed to being disobeyed, commanded him. “Up.”

“Yes, my lady,” the Dread Wolf replied soberly, lifting the child easily into his arms. “I’ll see you safely back to…”

“My Krem,” she supplied. The girl put her hand to his ear with a conspiratorial whisper. “I don’t want Mamae to know I escaped. She’ll be very angry at him.”

“I’m sure.”

Moving through the streets with a priceless artifact had been difficult enough. This precious package was far more nerve-wracking. Every sweep of the sentinel buildings sent a jolt through his heart, every sound was a potential threat. Where before the adrenaline had been an exhilaration, now just shook him down to his bones. One of his agents bolted by, skidded to a screeching halt, turned around and gaped openly. Solas scowled, made a violent gesture, and they scampered off, tossing a bewildered look over their shoulder.

He needed to hurry before word spread too far.

The last thing he needed just now was an ‘I told you so’ lecture from Merrill.

Who was in charge here, anyway?

“What the FUCK do you mean, she’s GONE?!”

The roof of the skeevy bar shook and glass bottles rattled on the shelves. Krem alone stood before the former Inquisitor, head bowed in shame.

“I don’t know how she escaped, one minute she was here, and then—…”

“You got outsmarted by a six-and-a-half year-old CHILD!” roared Ellana. Fenris leaned against the wall behind her, glowering.

“Grim and Stitches are already out looking for her—…”

The small elven woman grabbed her friend by the front of his armor and yanked him down to her height. “My daughter,” she enunciated through furious tears. “My precious elvhen daughter is wandering around the streets of Minrathous BY HERSELF, during a lockdown, with swarms of Fen’Harel’s agents and Venatori forces crawling about in the middle of the night. And you sent TWO men out after her?”

“Dalish and Skinner are out there, too.”

“Oh, FOUR! That makes me feel so much better, Krem.” Ellana turned to speak to her body guard over her shoulder. “FOUR people out looking for my daughter, Fenris, whom I birthed from my own body at great expense to my health.”

The Blue Wraith snarled an oath. “Shall I go?”

“You’re supposed to be guarding Her Worship,” argued Krem.

“And you were supposed to guard a CHILD,” snapped Fenris, lips curling in rage as he pushed away from the wall and advanced.

“Stop it, both of you,” demanded Ellana, shouldering between the two men before it could come to blows. She raked trembling fingers through her bright red curls, then dropped her hand to rub at her left elbow. It had been almost eight years since the unexpected amputation, and it still ached sometimes. Particularly when emotions ran high. “I’ll go look for her myself. Fenris with me, Krem…”

He looked so thoroughly dejected it broke her heart. The mercenary loved that little girl like his own from the start. She sighed. “Stay here in case she turns up. She’ll be scared and she’ll need you.”

“Yes, Your Worship,” he choked out.

The door to the bar creaked open and all three adults whirled, two swords came unsheathed, and hand-held crossbow found its way into Ellana’s hand.

A small, reddish blur blasted into Ellana, nearly knocking her off her feet. “Mamae!”

“Mahriel!” Her mother cried out, scooping the child into her arms with a fresh burst of tears. Fenris and Krem exchanged relieved looks and sheathed their weapons. Krem slumped against the bar with a groan while the other man turned to secure the door. “What were you thinking, running away from your Krem?! Glowy Man nearly gutted him, and I hadn’t even decided on all the terrible things I was going to make him do!”

“Thanks,” Krem deadpanned from his slumped position.

“Stop calling me that,” Fenris grumbled from his post by the door. His eyes searched the darkness outside through the high peep-hole carved through the wood, but saw nothing but still shadows.

“I was even considering making Krem scrub my chamber pot,” scolded Ellana.

“No!” Her daughter wailed into her bosom, repentant tears streaming down her fat cheeks. “No, don’t make my Krem clean your stinky chamber pot! It was my fault! I tricked him! I’m so sorry, Krem!”

The mercenary just groaned, massaging his temples. “I’m never having kids…” he muttered to himself. “They’re too much trouble, and that one’s not even mine. No kids, not ever.”

His smile ached as the Dread Wolf perched on the roof of the reappropriated bar, listening to the litany of relieved admonishments. She hadn’t changed much, not where it counted. She was still patently incapable of being serious for longer than a moment, still full of kindness even when overcome by righteous fury. Still full of love, even for those who had let her down so terribly. Solas risked a small peek through a knot in the wooden roof. The little girl was now clutched in Cremisius’ strong arms and sobbing out her apologies while her mother recovered with an impressive swig from the first bottle she could get her hands on.

There would be discussions. Later. First he would string his spymaster up by their thumbs and demand to know just how in the ever-loving fuck they’d managed to overlook the existence of a whole entire child for nearly seven years. Then he’d find Ellana and if he could resist shaking her bodily, demand an explanation, regardless of whether he deserved one or not. If there was time, he’d ask Krem how a six year old had outsmarted him.

But for now…He double-checked that the artifact was still safely stowed in his cloak pocket. It was the last piece. Now all that remained was to return to Arlathan Forest and begin.

He had to move quickly.

The Dread Wolf took one last look. Ellana had wrestled her daughter back from her friend and was cradling her close, stroking her hair and murmuring softly. Krem stood at her side, his hand on the former Inquisitor’s shoulder. Fenris, however, stood protectively over all of them, staring straight up at the ceiling, eyes narrowed, his hand resting casually on the pommel of his sword.

The Dread Wolf fled.

I really don't wanna complain , nor am I the type that does, but I'll rant , cuz even I am getting frustrated now

It's so frustrating that the one thing they get consistent is BP, making different choices to change for the worst

You need how much for Solomon seals to get a card guaranteed? 2400 seals?

How about red keys? Cuz you'll get a gold, just not the card ur pulling for nor the artifact, for example , I've been trying for beelzebubs attacker artifact since it was put on the banner, the card is maxed no artifact, I stopped trying back when red keys were still in pancake store, and the remaining I had left I used on Lucifer, I got 3-4 repeats, non for lucifer nor his artifact, or even the new leviathan card, 3 of those repeats being those for pancake store since most are repeats

The red keys in the pancake store will be the fall of it sooner or later, cuz now there's only exchange for gems, panty game, or buy them. And the issue with these is, for f2p, the only thing you get is panty game, 1 red key per day, so u might get a 10 pull once a month.... how generous

Red gems wise, the exchange is not worth it till u have over 4k gems, and u don't get those often either, I'll try to have a look and keep track of the gems to see how much you get per week

There's event exchange, but those don't even give you a 10 pull so, plus events ( not bp) happen like once per 2 months maybe

So how tf are people supposed to get any?

I play and have played over 10 different gatchas, from every ikemen game, obey me ( both og and nb, both since release), genshin ( star rail for a short bit), wuthering waves, cookierun, pokemon masters, nu carnival, arcana twilight, and probably more that I don't remember, and the ones I stayed for have 1 thing in common, that being events and better ways of earning pulls.

Obey me wise, even if u don't get any new cards you will get a 10 pull from completing the first slide of rewards if you're an active player, if you're lucky with pulls you'll get 20 or more depending on what type of event it is ( 1 is regular events other is gatcha event rewards) , and the store from ravens, you get as much as u get ravens from og obey me, while nb gives u 10 pull from the store per month, not as good, but personally from the pulls u get from the events you don't notice unless you're on a loosing streak , in my personal opinion some might feel different its OK, plus u get flash sales and level up sales for pulls, so many opportunities

Cookierun, as someone who played since sonic collab, I've not had issues for pulls, you get many gems and pulls from events, daily activities like guilds, raids and others, plus they don't really do reruns but new characters , recently they did group reruns for certain cookies, but consistently I had 30k saved up in case of new cookies from daily activities

Can't believe whb is making me talk well of genshin... but even genshin is more generous if ur an active player, u need 160 for a pull, daily activity alone gives 60, but they get events consistently, as a player of over a year I get 6k promo per month, and I kept track for 15 months on traveler's diary, as well as 5 pulls on the monthly store, and as much as u get from masterless startglitter u get from repeats

And nu carnival... from same collab company they had for whb since they're on erolabs, they too have a monthly store for 10, and more events, tho the rates could be better, they at least have some consistency

So what does whb lack? Events, consistency, and store exchange. Not many events and when they're there they last a month, and what u get leaves much to be desired, you don't get much info about when and what till it happens or they have a post a week before about it, store exchange gems wise is really expensive even the new one they added, and other currencies don't give u red keys or give barely any, wow 1 key! So nice!

And then there's the "they're a small company" so? Giving red keys in store doesn't cost them. If anything, it'd make people more likely to buy things, because at least u get something even if you're loosing, so it doesn't feel as that big a loss as it could be. I understand that it'd probably cost em to make more events and make em consistent, so they'd have to write writers, but! But but but! They don't have to make big lore events everytime! They could make shorter more light hearted events! Like.... nu carnival or obey me, mc and nobles and kings having mindless fun, like idk? Beach event, they go to a beach and interact, just a fun little filler while waiting for other things grander things to be in works in the meantime, they don't have to make new cards, or new sprites, they could but they don't have to yk? Just something smaller where u see how characters interact and have fun with u

Pb could also do something like welking or obey me vip, 5 dollar a month for red gems every day for a whole month or anything they'd decide on giving, or the vip where they could give per month perks, like discounts on deals, vip deals, per month gems, early sneak peaks. Yk?

Like I'm comparing, cuz I've been playing all those for so long, I mean 5 years in obey me? Why do u think that is? And I've been supporting pb for a while, I was there for love unholyc since the year it came out, preregistered for dokidoki, preregistered for whb and waited for updates despite the delays, I want them to succeed I want well for pb, for that they need to change for better. The rating on play store is 3 stars for a reason, people are leaving for a reason, people aren't willing to give the game a try for a reason. honestly so happy that its easier to grind in hsr then genshin cause im actually able to properly build my characters instead of whatever mess i had in that game (i got the right artifacts but trying to get materials for anything was a bit of a pain to me)

also that the resin (i dont know what its called in this game im using genshin terms) can like. overflow into this other thing??? is. so helpful. (i stopped playing at one point so i just came back to both being full. and then when i realized what it actually did it was a godsend because it made it so much easier to fully commit to grinding. i know in genshin you can make the resin this little thing? condensed?? but thats a thing you have to do yourself i think)

all im missing is leveling up the lightcones and traces

and im only missing the traces because i already used up weekly bosses. THATS IT.

robin and ratio have the same boss material so all i have to do then is get the other resources which isnt actually that hard (ill only have an issue if i cant material synthesis or exchange or whatever since i need to do it for the robin stuff that you get from enemies that can ambush you, i dont know what you refer to them as, but cause i havent unlocked penacony yet lol)

and the only lightcones that might give me issue is because highlighted is penacony material stuff

i returned to honkai star rail because aventurine. i focused on the story because aventurine. (got spoiled his story, realized 'what the fuck hes cool i like him' and watched someone go through the story) i came back in time for his banner but you know what? i had like zero wishing stuff because id stopped playing so i missed out unfortunately

i have friends who have aventurine as like one of the support characteres thingy tho? like the the where you can get support from other peoples characters

so thats been fun. but also auto is kind of bad with aventurine. or maybe because it thinks 'oh theres already a shield, so i wont e' which is pain. on the other hand actually playing instead of having it on auto is fun with aventurine. i like planning around it and thinking of who to have use their skills while keeping in mind when i should have him refresh his shield. i cant explain to you how it hurts seeing hp missing with a shield around it because i cant do anything about it (im the type of person who likes to keep my characters hp full ngl)

probably not the best decision to want shield over a healer but. i can make it work. maybe. i just want aventurine ok. (except for phantylia who as far as im aware is the only one who can just TAKE hp like that? without even affecting shields???)

yet this allows the other algebraliens to BULLY them and call them OLD and AINCENT ARTIFACT.

▪︎Despite being disrespected a lot, Five is seen as some sort of a leader around in the Equation Playground.

They are very cautious about its residents and properties. Even set up an annul renovation for the algebraliens to get together and refresh the place.

They aren't very admitting of it, but he deeply value his homeland and friends to the bottom of their heart, they built so many memories here.

▪︎Five loves all forms of literature, notably novels :D, novels of any genre. She also reads some of Three's poems from time to time.

Fifteen does appear in this AU with Fourteen! But they are considered side characters in the story.

Our main cast is from 1 to 10 only :broken_heart: (it's because I can't write so much episodes focusing on so many characters X0)

I don't have much info on them yet, Fifteen and Fourteen used to be local bullies in the Equation Playground in their childhood, they used to bond over them just being jerks, throwing insults at the other integers, and doing unhinged stuff that puts their lives and others' at risk.

Fifteen "matured" out of this, by matured, they just locked themselves away from everyone to take care of themselves without having to hold responsibility of others, They are still in contact with Fourteen, Fourteen urges them to go back, though.

Fourteen still goes on messing with the other numbers, though their pranks aren't as nearly as dangerous or "exciting" as it used to be when they were with Fifteen.

thoughts on the timing, feeling, phases of the moon thing? like it was such a cute idea but i get why they dropped it.

i mean like. i think very early in the show they were def leaning more into the modern wicca / witchcraft elements as those were super popular at the time (anyone remember scooby doo and the witch’s ghost? the one with the hex girls? we all remember the hex girls yes??? they totes would have slayed at p3 That’s Not The Point the point is that movie actually referred to witchcraft and wicca as two separate entities (in which witchcraft was inherently evil and wicca was good. and thorn was a witch. a ““wiccan”” charmed hex girls crossover when.) and i do get them dropping it i mean like. they’re running around facing evil every week to we really have time for the moon to reach a waning gibbous to banish this evil?? get real. i just. i really liked it when they got more Into magic. when paige used “eastern thinking” or whatever using chi or something with the nymphs using the four elements. when phoebe started writing her own spells and started backseat writing pipers. when they needed crystals and herbs and candles and cauldrons to cast spells. and i do love the drama of now… midnight on a full moon… like yes girl lightning strike real shit. and in their defense we do see the “feeling” element come into play, like in the fairie episode where they cast a spell to see fairies and it doesn’t work bc piper’s heart’s not in it or whatever. i like that you have to feel it you have to mean it. and i’ve said it before on this blog i do wish we kind of got more into which elements of witchcraft each sister excelled at. like clearly both phoebe and paige were innovative spellwriters (phoebe literally wrote the spell to vanquish the source) and prue was really great at like. idk what i’d call it. using enchanted items? she invented the crystal cage (which could hold the source!! not cole tho ig whatever…) maybe she got the idea from the apples and laurel leaves from puritan times or maybe from the amulets that knocked her on her ass idk but she was always skilled with magical artifacts esp given her auctioneer background. piper obvi has potions. i guess if i could go back in time i might say. hmmm. knowledge intention spirit and balance. in which prue is emblematic of knowledge, phoebe is intention, paige is spirit, and piper is balance.

Normally Prince Bubblegums castle was boring and going over there was only fun if you wanted to annoy the uptight monarch. However, Marshall Lee knew y/n was going to be over there for some council meeting for her kingdom so how could he skip out on that. He needed to spend as much time with her as possible, especially when Fionna would be there as well.

Fionna was his “rival” as of now. Only because it was obvious just how bad she had it for y/n. She was always so nice to everyone it’s obvious why Fiona would like her, but still. Marshall was dead set on charming the girl. Even though Gumball begged the vampire to not “corrupt the mind of his general”. Pfft. As if he, okay he did understand that point of view. However, the sweetest and most badass fighter in the kingdom with the coolest and most handsomest vampire in the Nightosphere would obviously be the best couple.

So Marshall got all ready for the meeting and when he arrived both the Prince and General were waiting for everyone. "Why hello y/n, may I say you look exceedingly dangerous and deadly for this council meeting." Her cheeks turn a soft pink while Bubblegum rolls his eyes, she was so easily smitten.

"Good evening Marshall, why thank you. You look exceptionally lethal as well. I wasn't expecting you to show up to this meeting however, what changed you mind?"

"Eh you know, how could I pass up seeing your pretty face." She giggles as more guests start to arrive. He was always one to flatter. It was like second nature to him by now. Marshall Lee was nothing if not charming.

Before he can speak he gets interrupted by a familiar blonde. "Hi y/n! You ready for this meeting?" Fionna smiles at y/n who returns the look.

"Of course. What kind of General would I be if I wasn't always up to date on the affairs of my armies and the people they protect." She was always so noble. So good. Maybe that's why they both showed interest in her. Fionna was the epitome of a good person, and that obviously drew her in.

However, Marshall was not a good person. No matter how you spun it he was selfish and did things for his own gain rather than the good of everyone else. Y/n was selfless. The opposite of him. So in some ways Gumball was right, but he wouldn't let that stop him. "Shall we all gather inside then." Gumball says to catch everyone's attention.

All of the attendees follow the two candy people into the royal meeting room where Gumball sits at the head of table with y/n on his right side and a banana guard on his left. Marshall quickly rushes to take the seat next to y/n before Fionna can take it. And when he does the girl blushes almost furiously.

With a triumphant smirk Marshall sits down and waits for Prince Gumball to start the meeting. "As you know there have been a series of attacks on the outer perimeter of the kingdom especially near the southeastern perimeter. Y/n has scoped out the area and we have reason to believe it's thieves that are attempting to steal royal artifacts. I called you here to assemble a team to take them out for good."

Many people look around the room to try and guess who will volunteer or be volunteered. "I have drafted a select group, and I hope there is no protest with the fighters I have picked. Y/n will lead one troop of banana soldiers and accompanying her will be Fionna, Cake, Marshall Lee, and I will allow y/n to bring Lord Monochromicorn. Sound good?"

Of course y/n nods her head dutifully while the rest of them accept the job. "You should go at once. Y/n has packed all the necessary supplies and Lord is waiting for her and Fionna outside. Please let me know if there is anything else you need." Marshall may think of Pg as snobby, but he still was a pretty good leader.

The assigned group follows their pseudo leader to the garden where Lord Monochromicorn was waiting with an unreadable face. He stomps his foot on the ground noticing y/n approach. "Yep. We're all set Lord. You ready?" The stallion stomps his hoof in agreement.

"Great! Come on Fiona and put Cake on too." Fionna looks back at Marshall with a smirk. She was so winning the general over. Marshall huffs under his breath. Stupid show off. Y/n simply starts to have Lord Monochromicorn take flight, not noticing their silly antics.

Fionna looks back towards Marshall before starting to talk to y/n, she just knew how much this bothered him. "So uh y/n what exactly are we facing here."

"Hmm? I think it's just some bandits, but we don't know what magical artifacts they have already stolen so we must remain vigilant. Wouldn't want anyone getting hurt after all." She smiles as Monochromicorn starts to lower and get closer to the ground.

Immediately arrows start to shoot at the group when they start to land. “Those jerks. They won’t even give us a chance to land. Lord just avoid as best as you can.” He nods at the generals orders and dodges the projectiles. “Marshall Lee can you take out the shooting squad?” The vampire nods and makes quick work of the losers carrying bows and arrows.

“Yo y/n those guys are barely a threat! This is kinda fun!” The girl nods before unsheathing her sword and grabbing her shield. She stands up making Fionna and Cake confused, before either of them can say anything the girl just lets herself fall backwards towards the oncoming battle.

“Y/N!” Fionna shouts out watching the general flip through the air. When she lands on the ground her normally sweet face is dead serious.

She points her sword out towards the army waiting to fight. “You have threatened my kingdom and home, for that I must beat you to a pulp.” The bandits look at one another confused until the one woman army bounds forward clutching her sword with insane determination.

Fionna and Cake hurry after her when the banana guards start to arrive. Y/n fights off the attackers almost three at a time. Each one failing against her skill with her blade. Fionna watches in awe at how fluid her movements were until Cake had to save her from a sneak attack. “I think you’d be better off watching your own back instead of hers.”

Marshall leaves a trail of knocked out bandits behind him as he makes his way towards y/n, he’d be damned if she didn’t see how well he fought. “Marshall! Air support?” She calls out when she notices his presence. The immortal smirks before flying over to her and lifting her by her hand.

“Beautiful time to fly huh gorgeous?” Her face burns red before she promptly lets go and drops herself onto a handful of fighters using her shield to cushion the landing. “Damn she’s hot.” Marshall mumbles under his breath before helping her take out the rest of the bandits.

“Hey general! I think this is what they stole!” Fi shouts out from the other side of the field holding up a bag filled with gems and other objects. Y/n walks over while putting her weapons back to where they normally sit. She nods at Fionna and takes the bag.

“Perfect. This is exactly what we had lost in our outposts. Why Pg had artifacts in the outposts beyond me.”

“So what now?” Fionna asks aloud as Lord Monochromicorn soon joins them.

“We go home? I mean I can whip us up some food or something when we get back to celebrate if you want.” She smiles at the three before the incoming argument.

“Y/n I love you!” Marshall slowly turns towards Fionna who covers her mouth from her outburst.

“You sneaky little witch! I was gonna ask her out and here you go ruining stuff!”

The two continue to bicker while Cake, Lord Monochromicorn, and y/n all watch in stunned silence. “Uh Cake did you have any clue about this?” Cake nods. “So why didn’t you tell me?”

“I didn’t think the two dummy’s would fight right in front of you.” Cake’s insult finally catches their attention.

Marshall pushes Fionna to the side and rushes towards y/n. “What do you say y/n? You, me, dinner? Maybe even a concert?”

Fionna bumps him out of the way in return. “Nuh uh! Y/n! We can sharpen our swords and then go on an adventure together!”

Y/n stands there when they start trying to push one another out of the way. “Ahem.” She clears her throat to shut them up. “I’m going to be honest, Marshall Lee I was interested in you since we met at Lumpy Space Prince’s party, but I was also interested in Fionna when we started going t battle together.”

Both potential suitors watch nervously waiting for her to choose. “Gah I just can’t pick! You both are so amazing! Why do I have to choose!”

“If that’s what you want princess.” Marshall Lee smiles at her and grabs her hand.

“I mean I guess I don’t mind sharing with Marshall.” Fionna mumbles.

“Wait huh. Really?” Y/n questions still not believing. Both of them nod. Y/n lights up and smiles. “That’s perfect! Now can I still make some lunch?”

My current job is pretty laidback about us having phones out and listening to music as we work sorting archaeological artifacts in a lab, so I've started binge-rewatching Durarara!! from the very beginning.

I've already finished the original run yesterday and just started x2 Shou, but some thoughts I had:

At least in the anime adaptation, the original run was meant to be pretty self-contained in the event they weren't able to continue (which to be fair was true for quite a while before x2 got greenlit), so rather than consider the original run a "phase one" of Izaya's grander scheme to start a gang war and awaken Celty's head it makes a bit more sense to think of it in the context of a failed first attempt.

In that context, it makes me wonder how he felt about it, his first grand failure. Grand enough that he felt the need to step back and lay low so he could go back to the drawing board (see: his initial conversation with Shizuo in ep 25).

I honestly bet he picked a fight with Shizuo just to take out his frustrations on it all. He managed to create a messy three-way conflict and get Celty roped into it as Anri and Mikado's friend, but the head gave narry a stir. Not to mention, Celty was able to help them resolve things pretty easily by just getting these dumb kids to actually talk to each other.

I don't remember the episode number because I just binged the whole thing, but Shingen at one point suggests that rather than rope Celty into a conflict, Izaya should try to center the conflict around Celty herself. Izaya claimed he was doing just that, but I don't think he really succeeded in the initial run. Sure, Celty was involved, but more as an independent third (fourth?) party than as a focal point. She was in the Dollars and friends with both Anri and Mikado, but she didn't really have much of a stake in the squabble itself. That was just a big messy of miscommunication between three high schoolers completely unrelated to her. That must have been frustrating, honestly, getting so close but falling just short of what he needed.

Then, on top of everything else, he wasn't even really involved in the resolution of the fight itself, either. He says in his theory that he needs to create a war only HE can win, right? I'd imagine that's why he was fucking around with a bunch of kids rather than the bigger leagues like the Yakuza that he works with regularly: it's a lot easier to insert yourself as an authority as the only adult. He'd be able to take control of that situation so easily, but Celty took that role instead, so he never even got a chance to win the war.

And to blow off steam from his initial failure, what does he do? He deliberately picks a fight with Shizuo, someone he generally tries to avoid when he can help it, by fucking with his brother's safety.

I wonder if he needed to feel alive for a minute by reminding himself of the loom of death. Shizuo's arguably the only one that actually threatens Izaya enough to feel any sense of awe or dread. I wonder if he wanted to put himself in that position to remind himself what was at stake and give him the motivation to go back to the drawing board and try again. He really does have a Shizuo Complex in that sense.

Anyway, I might do Shou, Ten, and Ketsu individually as I finish them, but if anyone would prefer a liveblog instead, lmk. I might stop at Shou for now, tho, because Wa-kun and I are I thiiiink like halfway through Ten? And I don't wanna spoil them with my rambling.
