one of the things about being an educator is that you hear what parents want their kids to be able to do a lot. they want their kid to be an astronaut or a ballerina or a politician. they want them to get off that damn phone. be better about socializing. stop spending so much time indoors. learn to control their own temper. to just "fucking listen", which means to be obedient.

one of the things i learned in my pedagogy classes is that it's almost always easier to roleplay how you want someone to act. it's almost always easier to explain why a rule exists, rather than simply setting the rule and demanding adherence.

i want my kids to be kind. i want them to ask me what book they should read next, and i want to read that book with them so we can discuss it. i want my kid to be able to tell me hey that hurt my feelings without worrying i'll punish them. i want my kid to be proud of small things and come running up to me to tell me about them. i want them to say "nah, i get why this rule exists, but i get to hate it" and know that i don't need them to be grateful-for-the-roof-overhead while washing the dishes. i want them to teach me things. i want them to say - this isn't safe. i'm calling my mom and getting out of this. i want them to hear me apologize when i do fuck up; and i want them to want to come home.

the other day a parent was telling me she didn't understand why her kid "just got so angry." this woman had flown off the handle at me.

my dad - traditional catholic that he is - resents my sentiment of "gentle parenting". he says they'll grow up spoiled, horrible, pretentious. granola, he spits.

i am going to be kind to them. i am going to set the example, i think. and whatever they choose become in the meantime - i'm going to love them for it.

MIV’s (mentally-ill-vaquero)s latest post on how javier has religious trauma has got me thinking …. with javier’s internalized dynamic of saviorship and worship and God and Man … there’s actually some parallels between his (history with) religion and the way he deifies and glorifies dutch and is so entrapped in dutch’s indoctrination. he’s already susceptible to manipulation because of the cultural differences and the way that dutch has intentionally positioned himself to force javier to rely on him for his literal survival, but i think his history with religion further bolsters his susceptibility to indoctrination and manipulation, and his fear of god bleeds over into his fear of dutch, who seems to have a similar hold on javier’s mortal soul. and the way that javier feels that he CANNOT leave the gang, and the way that he CANNOT doubt dutch (and when he does, he repents, by “proving” his loyalty, unquestioningly. he fears dutch’s wrath, and so he falls in line when he is confronted with it, even just a little bit.), it’s just like how many (and even dare i say javier himself) fear leaving their religion, and fear doubting god, for the intimidation of losing His mercy, and what that means for them. his relationship with religion, and with the way religion itself (especially catholicism and christianity) FORCES most people to stay out of the sheer fear of going to hell and experiencing the suffering of eternal damnation, i believe, influences his dynamic with the entire world, ESPECIALLY images of power, like dutch. god scares javier into confusion and anger and resentment, but most of all into submission and repentance, and, just the same, dutch does too.

but also, both of javier’s gods contradict each other. dutch asks him to kill, and god asks he repent for his killing. javier escuella, poor man, cannot escape a life of maddening confusion. no wonder he ends up as an angry, empty, hateful husk of a man in the end.

Oscar yet again drove brilliantly. He had a hard time in Australia and decided to never do it again 🧡 He somehow continues to improve every weekend. The car has a ridiculous amount of pace and he did well to pass Kimi and Max as fast as he did. Yet again another 10/10 performance

Lando was very unfortunate in those first 2 corners. He almost had the lead but being on the outside of the track into turn 2 and it being slightly wet meant he just lost traction. He made up places quickly though and that pass on George was downright sexy. It was unfortunate he couldn’t pass Max quicker but he had insane pace. He was flying and he seemed a bit more comfortable in the car so hopefully that means well for the future 🤞🏻

I know some Lando fans will be disappointed that he didn’t get the championship lead back this weekend so I want to remind you all how consistent he has been this season. He has only not been on the podium ONCE. The worst he’s finished is a p4. He is doing so well… all in a car he hasn’t been comfortable in. He will be ok.

Also my condolences to myself and other Oscar fans to have to witness that gritty attempt. Hell my condolences to Oscar for having to live through that. I have introvert empathy for him. But hey maybe Oscar’s run of shit luck in the US is finally over

Could Oscar win the championship this year. Yes he could and I’d be super happy. Could Lando… still yes. I’d be super happy. We are 6 races in. They could both still lose lol. Take a breath and go race by race so you can enjoy how well your driver(s) are doing 🧡

I just remembered something. Not sure if I remember it correctly but I'm gonna share it anyways 😂.

I'm pretty sure I watched a YT video a long time ago of a therapist watching the Mileven bedroom fight from s4. I don't believe he had much, if any, context. And he said that Mike was trying his best to reassure El until she brought up him not saying I love you, and then he got defensive. And I remember him also saying that he was impressed by his attempt to comfort El because he's a teenage boy and usually they aren't really good at being empathetic. And he also said him not being able to say I love you is actually a pretty common thing for couples their age and he wasn't surprised that Mike got so defensive over it.

So a therapist -- someone who knows human behavior better than the average person -- said that Mike did an overall good job during the confrontation for a teenage boy.

Now adding all the trauma onto that, I'd say Mike did a pretty dang good job. Just wanted to share this 😂.
