NO, waitwaitwait! I got it! Vampire!Sanji who's pallet is "refined", but he's just a picky eater. Where he can't drink from devil fruit eaters because they taste weird and have no nutritional value, fishmen have a horrible taste, way too salty and make his immune system weaken, and Franky's blood is just cola at this point.
So all he has left is: Nami, who doesn't let him drink unless it's life or death, or he pays her an absurd amount that would leave seven generations after him in debt.
Usopp, who gets anemic way too easily and is afraid of needles, but still "donates" as much as possible every one or two months, but it's usually a week's worth at best. At least he does it like a nirmal person - having Chopper take some and store it in a proper container.
And of course... Zoro. The perfect donor with plenty of blood and always quick to regeneration.
But the problem there is that Sanji hates drinking from him. He hates that he thinks making Chopper drain it is pointless and tell him to "Just come to me when you're hungry, don't waste any of the doctor stuff, it's fine." He hates that evey time he gets hungry he finds Zoro conveniently working out near him. He hates that he tastes so irresistible. He hates that every time Zoro, so willingly offers any part of his body, telling him what's important is that Sanji's comfort drinking from there.
He hates all of it! He hates the little noises he can't stop making when he goes after a long day of starving himself. He hates that he's so desperate and wanting. He hates thay Zoro is so understand, so comforting. He hates that while he's drinking, Zoro will pet his hair, brush it behind his ear so he can watch Sanji drain him. And he hates how happy it makes him.
Sanji often takes breaks from eating. He says it's a traditional thing, like fasting or a ramadan. But the truth was that he was trying to reduce how much he consumed. He usually only needed a cup's-worth of blood for three or even for days. And he would drink it in evenly spaced intervals of time.
Every month, he started with Usopp's blood. It's nicely packaged and dosed by Chopper to last him around a week and a half. And he was happy that it's a stability he could count on. But once that's over, he can't bring himself to go crawling to Zoro. He stops eating for as long as he can. But then he brakes. He always breaks in the end, and when it rains it pours. Sanji would wake up in a cold sweat, stomach hurting as if someone cut it open. He would try to stand on wobbly feet, most of the time unsuccessfully, and find Zoro. He would sink his teeth in with a fierceness he would despise if he didn't feel like his body was designating.
Zoro, already being used to it, would relax as soon as Sanji's teeth drew blood. He wouldn't flinch or protest. He would mutter reassurances to Sanji as his tears poured because of realization of what he's done. And he knew that until the next dose of Usopp's blood, Sanji would get addicted to the feeling of sinking his teeth into slightly tanned skin and feeling his pulse with the skin of his lips. Having the heat of fresh blood running down his throat.
They'd get scolded by Chopper for letting it get out of hand again and getting "hurt". But the next month or so the same thing would happen.

Hello hi, don't mind me
Just needed a little self indulgent comfort today <3
I love you guys, I promise I'm working on things I just need time is all - I hope you enjoy 🩷
Tumblr media
It's a rainy day today. Outside in the world but also for you.
You dig your face into the chest of your caregiver, his hold onto you is just right. Not too tight but just tight enough to make you feel like this just might be your corner of the universe you were made for. His chest is nothing less than perfect to rest against as your cheek pushes up against it. You let out a deep breath that turns into a sigh
It seems to be you released a breath you didn't know you were holding in.
He places his hand onto your head and softly caresses your hair. His hand is cold as always but you don't mind. You run warm and it's nice to have that little bit of coolness.
"My little lamb, my ball of sunshine. You're so good and perfect and all mine. How did I get as lucky to have such a perfect little thing like you?" He says quietly as he holds you closer, his other hand rubbing your back in slow circles.
You both love cuddles and are constantly entangled in each other. You feel the ends of your mouth curl up as you nuzzle your head deeper into him. You feel the heavy weight lift in your chest and before you know it, tears fall from your eyes. It's been a while since you've cried and usually you hate crying but today it's a welcome experience. Your caregiver knows it's one of those days so he doesn't fret when you cry.
He doesn't shush you. He doesn't invalidate you. He simply wipes your eyes and comforts you.
"There, there my little one. You'll be okay. You're doing so good for me, honey, so so good."
You chest heaves slightly as you cry and he pats your back gently. Not too fast or hard, not too soft or slow either. He's just perfect.
"I'm sorry." You say in a quiet voice, almost a quiver.
"Its okay, baby. You did your best and that's all we can ask for. I love you through it all and you're always my little lamb."
You nod and let more tears fall. It's hard to feel okay about crying and it's even harder to feel like it's not a nuisance. But it gets easier bit by bit when you feel your daddy wipe away your tears and wipe your nose with tissues.
'I'm doing good. I'm doing my best. I'm still good.'
You chant this to yourself in your head to keep you going. When you're sad like this it hurts so bad you feel it in your chest. You like to say it's your heart hurting. It's your heart having a rainy day.
Your daddy starts to gently rock you as he plays with your hair. He hums your favorite songs softly and plants only the most gentlest and loving kisses onto your skin.
First on your knuckles, then the top of your hands, then your cheeks and your nose and then your forehead.
"My sweet little thing. My little princess. My precious baby."
You tried to hold it in but a quiet whine escapes you. Nothing to complain to him or anything like that. Your heart is just sensitive today. And its hard to listen to the things you want to hear. And that's okay. It's Nirmal.
"I know you possibly won't believe me now but I promise I'm not leaving. I promise I'm staying. You're always my baby. You're my closest friend beyond just my baby. The most important thing to me. The center of my universe. I know it's hard to have such a big role but I promise I'll always be gentle with you, my baby."
Of course, hearing such poetic and kind words makes you cry more. Your daddy, ever so kind and patient, keeps rocking you back and forth. He rubs your back and keeps giving you sweet words and kisses. You clench his hoodie into your hands as you cry and bury yourself into him. It's hard but if feeling like being here in this hidden pocket of the universe is what's going to make it feel better then you'll do that.
As long as you get to keep your daddy in the center of your universe too, thats totally okay.
"I love you daddy. Thank you for bein nice to me"
"I love you too little sunshine of mine."

I think it really says a lot that despite everything that's going on Kazuki and Rei still take Miri on an outing and not once do they show any sadness because they want this to be a happy day for her.
By the end, Kazuki says this:
Tumblr media
Maybe he meant "change" as in their work and lifestyles and finally live normal, happy lives, but I think their time spent with Miri did change them:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean, thanks to Miri, Rei is actually smiling and Kazuki also learns that he doesn't have to do everything alone- she taught them the importance of family!!
At the end of the day, what Kazuki and Rei did, despite not wanting to, is incredibly selfless because they know if she becomes involved in the organization, it'll just be worse for Miri.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They need to give her up so she can have a nirmal happy life, but I think Miri is also at her happiest when she's with her papas! Miri will miss them a lot, and I really can't wait till the next episode to see how Rei and Kazuki are coping with all this.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Gov. Gavin Newsom vetoed a bill Saturday that would have made California the first U.S. state to outlaw caste-based discrimination.
Caste is a division of people related to birth or descent. Those at the lowest strata of the caste system, known as Dalits, have been pushing for legal protections in California and beyond. They say it is necessary to protect them from bias in housing, education and in the tech sector — where they hold key roles.
Earlier this year, Seattle became the first U.S. city to add caste to its anti-discrimination laws. On Sept. 28, Fresno became the second U.S. city and the first in California to prohibit discrimination based on caste by adding caste and indigeneity to its municipal code.
In his message Newsom called the bill “unnecessary,” explaining that California “already prohibits discrimination based on sex, race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and other characteristics, and state law specifies that these civil rights protections shall be liberally construed.”
“Because discrimination based on caste is already prohibited under these existing categories, this bill is unnecessary,” he said in the statement.
A United Nations report in 2016 said at least 250 million people worldwide still face caste discrimination in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Pacific regions, as well as in various diaspora communities. Caste systems are found among Buddhists, Christians, Hindus, Jains, Muslims and Sikhs.
Proponents of the bill launched a hunger strike in early September pushing for the law’s passage. During their campaign, many Californians have come forward with stories of discrimination in the workplace, housing and education. Opponents, including some Hindu groups, called the proposed legislation “unconstitutional” and have said it would unfairly target Hindus and people of Indian descent. The issue caused deep divisions in the Indian American community. Hundreds on both sides came to Sacramento to testify at committee hearings in the state senate and assembly.
Thenmozhi Soundararajan, executive director of Equality Labs, the Oakland-based Dalit rights group that has been leading the movement to end caste discrimination nationwide, said she still views this moment as a victory for caste-oppressed people who have “organized and built amazing power and awareness on this issue.”
“We made history conducting the first advocacy days, caravans, and hunger strike for caste equity,” she said. “We made the world aware that caste exists in the U.S. and our people need a remedy from this violence. A testament to our organizing is in Newsom’s veto where he acknowledges that caste is currently covered. So while we wipe our tears and grieve, know that we are not defeated.”
The Hindu American Foundation and Coalition of Hindus of North America claimed Newsom's veto as a victory for their advocacy efforts.
“With the stroke of his pen, Governor Newsom has averted a civil rights and constitutional disaster that would have put a target on hundreds of thousands of Californians simply because of their ethnicity or their religious identity, as well as create a slippery slope of facially discriminatory laws,” said Samir Kalra, the Hindu American Foundation's managing director.
In March, state Sen. Aisha Wahab, the first Muslim and Afghan American elected to the California Legislature, introduced the bill. The California law would have included caste as a sub-category under ethnicity — a protected category under the state’s anti-discrimination laws.
Nirmal Singh, a Bakersfield resident and member of Californians for Caste Equity, said the introduction of this bill “represents a shifting tide in California to understand caste-based discrimination.” Singh also represents Ravidassia community, many of whom are Dalits with roots in Punjab, India.
“The fact that caste-oppressed people were given a platform to stand up for our basic human rights is a huge win in and of itself,” he said.
Earlier this week, Republican state Sens. Brian Jones and Shannon Grove called on Newsom to veto the bill, which they said will “not only target and racially profile South Asian Californians, but will put other California residents and businesses at risk and jeopardize our state’s innovate edge.”
Jones said he has received numerous calls from Californians in opposition.
“We don’t have a caste system in America or California, so why would we reference it in law, especially if caste and ancestry are already illegal,” he said in a statement.
Grove said the law could potentially open up businesses to unnecessary or frivolous lawsuits.
A 2016 Equality Labs survey of 1,500 South Asians in the U.S. showed 67% of Dalits who responded reported being treated unfairly because of their caste.
A 2020 survey of Indian Americans by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace found caste discrimination was reported by 5% of survey respondents. While 53% of foreign-born Hindu Indian Americans said they affiliate with a caste group, only 34% of U.S.-born Hindu Indian Americans said they do the same.
