BNHA Chapter 425 - Thoughts
So I guess Hori did decide to just skip the end of the battle, my hospital academia and go straight to UA graduation?
It was teased back in Ch 360, so yeah it needed to happen and it seems like drawing Neijire is a special happy place for Hori (also the sketch he couldn't even wait until Sunday to drop, lol)
Mic DJ-ing right after ShiraGiri's death is sort of odd, but on top of the gags, there are some more serious moments.
What stood out to me was Mirio's comment about how the heroes' fight "is always for the sake of returning the negatives to zero on the whole." It reminded me of Ch 341 - The Story of how We All Became Heroes Minus ā which featured Touya, Toga, Spinner and of course Tomura suffering the transformation. So I can't help but feel it's related to the LoV's fate.
The class is together š crying like a proud parent (whose tumblr handle just became obsolete).... and Aizawa is staying. Yay. After 400+ chapters they made it to second year!!!
Bakugou omg, out of the hospital in a tie which he somehow tied with one hand, being calm... (it's still odd to the others? - but I guess his apology happened like 3 weeks ago in-verse). It seems like he might end up with a scar, just like Izuku (and it's a bit like Kudou's, of course).
Aoyama leaving - I talked about this in one of the asks, but for me it's ok that it's his choice being respected and that the class clearly would be happy to have him stay. Though I wonder if his parents are just suddenly given amnesty for being "AFO's victims" and what that may mean for other villains.
Shinsou joins Class A long at last. Yay! Is he going to get Aoyama's room or join the 5th floor boys? I do wonder if the kids are still in the dorms even.
The Fuwa-stans are getting fed. But Class 2-A (can't get used to this...) will take a year long field trip around Japan. Reminds me of the 100 million tour newpaper sketches.
I liked Shoto mentioning AFO - how he was born in an era of turmoil (which I read as him saying that preventing the rise of such villains is now). It also seems to contradict what All Might said last chapter about Deku already being the greatest hero to everyone.
But also Shouto speaks. Normal speech bubbles. Has a normal voice! Yay! (still don't get it why he didn't speak in Ch 422 though)
Izuku looks troubled. Either because of what Shouto said or because of Fuwa senpai's comments about needing to experience a sudden death to understand why you'd want to be a hero. He certainly is not ready to run celebratory circles.
Watch them all walk together (TDBK covered by Iida's speech bubble, but I recognize them from Shouto's messenger bag and Katsuki's loose pants)
OMG, these guys are a total disaster. I don't know what Deku wanted to say, but Ochako obviously shut him down (and thought it was about her "let him rest" speech which apparently the class keeps teasing her for). Also Hori is using her to explain Deku's haircut.
And here, she looks weirdly happy compared to last time, but it could be just a front...
poor Deku though... he thinks she hates his haircut
No idea who the new guy is, but looks like someone escaped / let loose from a medical facility. Could be regenerated Tenko I guess or someone similar to him who can be saved by Deku this time. I prefer it to be the real Tenko because I want to see Tenko Rising. I think he looks too young to be Deku's dad tbh.
TDDK scene !!! Yay!!! (I wonder if Deku tries to talk both to Ochako and Shouto because of his feelings about Tenko... I really badly want a saviour squad scene)
Todoroki looks hopeful but not sure if it's genuine (it could be putting on a front to stop Izuku from worrying). But his foot is like when he went to see his mom the first time, so I tend to read that right now as a good sign.
"ć£ć" (?????) - there is definitely a shift of emotion.
Endeavor is sitting in front of a giant tank / or secure room window. (?) (Probably the same window Shouto was looking in last chapter.
From the context and framing it's clear that it's Touya. For now alive. Endeavor is finally keeping his promise and is watching.
And the editorial blurb also suggests we may get Hellish Todoroki Family 3 after the two weeks break. I'm very worried, but also since we are strapping in for a longer epilogue it seems, I don't expect things to go smoothly for them just yet.

okay just for fun i'm going to compile the garbled knowledge i have about what happens in bnha going forward (so everything after season 5 episode 8/middle of the joint training arc).
this is a few years of passively picking stuff up through tumblr, ao3 and a friend who reads the manga and would periodically upon request tell me how my kids were doing
so...bnha spoilers below the cut, including fairly recent manga spoilers. except they are incomplete, garbled and possibly entirely wrong
upcoming arcs: endeavour internship arc, plf arc, ??? other ones probably, final war arc
bakugou, midoriya & todoroki intern at endeavour's agency. endeavour redemption arc continues to be a thing that is happening
midoriya develops the past OFA users quirks - blackwhip first, then float, and then the others are i think...danger sense, smokescreen, some kind of...healing thing? i have definitely seen them all referenced in fic but i mostly just remember float and blackwhip
touya reveal!! dance with your son in hell!! we stan. i have no idea what the outcome of this is other than that i believe natsuo never gets on board with endeavour redemption but fuyumi does. i think maybe shouto as well...
at some point things about hawks?? and the hero commission's...stuff?? with hawks?? gets revealed publically and contributes to growing unrest about heroes' roles in society. and the touya stuff i think also gets revealed and contributes to this
oh kurogiri obviously. that's season 5 i'm pretty sure. kurogiri is a noumu made from oboro shirakumo, aizawa & mic's (& midnight's?) UA friend who they thought died under some rubble during agency placements. it was actually aizawa they were after but they got oboro instead. aizawa & mic go to confront him and try to get through to him and it initially does not work
while i'm on aizawa knowledge: he gets shot with a quirk destroying bullet in the leg and fucking cuts his own leg off to try and stop it from working. and on what is maybe a separate occasion he loses an eye, i think to shigaraki. idk if eri rewinds one of both of these injuries??
eri does successfully rewind mirio's quirk back. and at some point midoriya loses his goddamn arms?? but eri fixes that. so often when i asked my friend for updates it would end up being about how many limbs my faves currently had
midnight dies. idk how or why. twice i think also dies. again, no context.
aoyama is revealed as the UA traitor. he was born quirkless and was given his quirk by AFO. it was an overall sympathetic he had v few good choices kind of situation i think
at some point everything kind of collapses. i think this is to do with public reaction to hero stuff?? but the whole city seems kind of wrecked and a bunch of people are sheltering on UA's campus i think...and then midoriya for reasons i do not really understand runs off on his own for an iconic yellow scarf of sadness era of going rogue. and 1-a has to track him down and yell a lot about how they love him and he needs to cut it out. this includes a bakugou apology i believe
i think the midoriya run away coincides with OFA reveal?? he writes them letters i think...then he comes back and there's a lot of discussion about baths
climactic midoriya shigaraki fight...we find out shigaraki used to be quirkless. i think AFO gave him the quirk used to kill his family or something equally fucked up. midoriya...throws all his quirks out? to like? achieve something? so he (temporarily) is quirkless...
bakugou dies but they fix it. i think with...shigaraki...somehow. oh and at some point during all this i think kurogiri does do some helpful for the heroes teleporting?? so they maybe did get through to him in the end?
timejump and SHINSOU IS IN 2-A. this is the only thing that matters actually!! my boy!! he did it!!!!! he took aoyama's spot bc aoyama didn't feel like he could come back even tho he'd pretty much been forgiven. so we just missed canonising the iconic 'shinsou hitoshi is in class 1-a' tag bc it's 2-a and fully did not canonise the 'shinsou hitoshi replaces mineta minoru' tag
skjdhfh i'm sure i'm forgetting a bunch that i do actually know and just can't think of rn so i will maybe reblog this if i remember more
#bnha posting#mostly i think this will be very funny to look back on if (as is likely) i've got some stuff wildly wrong

Very good points were made here, by both the ask and OP.
I have a lot of thoughts about this scene. I try not to be too angry with 1A because they genuinely were trying to help Izuku. They definitely went about it the wrong way, however, so I do understand the criticism.
Having all of 1A there definitely seemed overkill. I think the scene would have benefitted from just Uraraka, Iida, Todoroki, and Tsu (realistically Bakugou would only be there because Horikoshi would never allow him to be left out unfortunately but in my world he isn't). It's a lot more personal and these are people he's trusted before. Izuku would be more willing to show vulnerability without being confronted by his entire class. Like... He has a thing about being strong in front of others. Why confront him with 19 people? I also think these four would be the only ones kind of justified in being upset that he just ran off. It makes sense that they'd be hurt that their close friend didn't trust them enough to help him especially since he never hesitated to help them (Todoroki and Iida especially).
Bakugou goading him at the beginning was awful. Not only is he just putting Izuku down (like he's always done), it feels like some kind of weird power play. Izuku is heavily injured, fatigued, and suffering mentally. The last thing he needs is a lecture from the very reason he's like this to begin with. It's the reason I get angry at Bakugou/Aizawa stans and All Might Antis. All Might taught Izuku that protecting and uplifting others instinctively is what makes a true hero. He never told Izuku that his life was meaningless in comparison. He never allowed Izuku to forsake his health or well-being (he scolded Izuku for pushing himself too hard during the ten months of training and made him a lunch everyday when he was on the run)?
Many point fingers at All Might for Izuku's self-sacrificing tendencies. But who was it that constantly tormented Izuku for something he couldn't control? Who was it that picked on and assaulted him for fun? Who was it that gave him a name that means worthless? Bakugou is one of the main reasons Izuku has these issues. Shifting blame to All Might is not okay because it minimizes Bakugou's actions. Especially when he turns around and tries to scold Izuku.
Regardless of having the full story or not, the others shouldn't have allowed it to happen. But they've always allowed Bakugou to say and do whatever he wants (because God forbid anyone criticize Bakugou) to Izuku so this shouldn't be a surprise.
I probably wouldn't have too much of a problem with this scene if they had ended on Iida. I was so happy that Iida was really the one to get through to him. Their friendship is one of my favorites in the whole show. They should have ended it there instead of leading into the apology. Izuku had already stopped fighting. There was no need to give Bakugou so much attention. All it did was shift focus from Izuku (the one who was hurt and needed help) to him, using Izuku as a prop to once again make him come off better. From the very beginning, this was all about Bakugou and to pretend otherwise is delusion.
I won't get into the apology because then we'd be here all day. Just know that I hate everything about it.
Look, I'm sorry, but Class 1-A had no excuse going after Izuku the way they did in the Dark Deku arc.
They knew Shigaraki held Izuku hostage at the mall. They knew (I think?) that Shigaraki directly targeted him during the war. They knew from the letter that the man who took control of Japan 100+ years ago was directly targeting him. So for them to act all surprised and upset that he ran off without telling them is just mind-blowing to me.
Then they let BAKUGOU take the lead in their little rescue mission and DO NOTHING as he bullies Izuku yet again. They see how physically and mentally beaten down Izuku is and don't respect that. If anything, Izuku should have called them out on this and ran off again.
Overall, this arc had so much potential in exploring Izuku's mentality (low to non-existent self esteem, self sacrificing tendancies, Imposter Syndrome regarding his spot at UA), but as always, it wound up being a fucking bust. Only All Might and the OFA users were actually worried about the ramifications of Izuku putting this burden on himself.
Hi @nutzgunray-lvt š,
The Dark Deku arc was one of THE BIGGEST personal let downs for me. After so long of feeling Meh about MHA at the beginning this arc (stupidly in retrospect) got my hopes up.
Was AFO going to be an actual threat again? Was he going to go after AM? Inko? Uraraka? (I actually thought Hori was building up to have AFO kill AM with how AM was shown caring for Izu this arc.)
Are we finally going to see more Izuku POV on everything? And shift focus back to him on what he thought of certain key events? I.e Hawks's actions surrounding Twices death, Dabi's reveal, Midnight's death (since this is the first person Izu knew to properly die could this have driven home stronger that more people he knew could easily die.)
Then instead of any of that we got Class 1A vs Izu shoehorned in as a shit finale and Bakugou leading the charge against him.
Anyone with a braincell should see this was a bad idea.
Anyone who cares for Izu should see that beating him down instead of approaching the situation with empathy is a bad idea.
Are we meant to believe Todoroki, Uraraka, Tsuyu or Iida are Ok with this? If they are... Am I meant to still believe they're Izuku's friends? Why are they not pushing back against Bkg's b.s? WTH Hori?!
In this situation, Izuku had every right to go completely apeshit on every member of Class 1A since this essentially mirrors Aldera - with Bakugou leading the charge AGAIN!
In fact I wish he did because Bakugou looked like he was having a swell time! Maybe that would have wiped the shit eating grin off Bakugou's face. Look at those grins and taunts, clearly reliving the glory days at Aldera, how I wanted Izuku to deck this bastard.
Right until his b.s Apology where he pulled out the manipulative fake remorse (without explaining the situation) and topped it off with "this won't change anything between us." With Izuku stood like a literal prop to listening to this silently, for the sole purpose of making Bakubitch look good, until he faints.
Woooooow.
Hori just hates Izuku doesn't he? What a way to fuck up an arc that actually should have focused on the MC for once. Instead of giving Izu any kind of focus or... Anything Hori brings him right back to Bakugou, his lifelong bully and abuser.
I hate this.

Hawks being endeavor's cheerleader is weird to me because all the progress endeavor had in his atonement is coming from him and his inner thoughts.
Hawks doesn't affect endeavor's arc in a negative way but neither does in a positive way.
I dare to say that the teenage enji hallucination we saw in chapter 356 was more succesful in making endeavor see how much of an abusive father/husband he was and the damage he caused in 1 chapter than Hawks did ever since he promised to help Endeavor in chapter 299.
Hi anon thanks for the ask. I'm truly sorry I took so long to reply to this. I wrote it, saved it as a draft and then I literally forgot!! I'm so sorry.
Here, have some sparkles as an apology: āØāØāØ
I'm not good with words so don't take this as some serious analysis or something, it's mostly just me talking about how I felt Hawks' character was handled badly, plus some of my thoughts about Endeavor. (mild character bashing sorry-I call him pathetic a couple of times is that mild?)
Hopefully this post is proof enough that I actually like Hawks, and I'm just disappointed in his character because fuck me I made a single post defending Dabi and jokingly hating on Hawks because I was annoyed and now every Hawks stan thinks I want him dead!
Hawks' presence in the story in general feels forced after the war arc. After the conference, he doesn't really feel like a character, at least to me. I always say that his character arc feels like it's on pause. We don't see him thinking about his actions or decisions, We don't see his internal struggle after killing a person. I'm not asking much I think. Hawks didn't necessarily need to regret his specific decision to kill Twice in my opinion. I just wanted him to at the very least regret the act of taking someone's life in general. I wanted him to have that self reflection, because I thought that would have been a lot more interesting than him being forcefully shoved into the Todoroki side plot. But unfortunately that's not what we got in canon.
There's the part with his backstory sure. But the way it is presented it feels very clinical and detached. This flashback is just him remembering his childhood. No other character learns about this and though it seems to affect him emotionally, it doesn't really influence his future decisions.
If we compare it to other characters' flashbacks it's more obvious. Shouto's flashback during the sports festival changes the entire trajectory of his character. Every decision he makes after that (using his fire, visiting him mom, making an effort to become friends with his classmates) are all connected to this one moment. Twice's flashback doesn't exactly change his future decisions, because it just explains to us how he ended up where he is now. But what we saw happening in that flashback still affected how his character acted in the present. And as a last example Dabi's entire past dictates every single decision he has ever made in this story.
Hawks' flashback doesn't feel like that. He doesn't come to a new conclusion after it and it doesn't seem connected to his decision to help Endeavor. In fact it feels the opposite. He made the decision despite of his past, not because of it. That gives me the idea that he knows exactly how he feels about his past, he figured it out a long time ago and isn't in a stage in his life where he would be able to rethink about this topic or change his mind. The conclusion has already been reached and we didn't get to see any of the process so it feels disconnected from the rest of the story. Just background noise in Hawks' head while he's doing work. (sidenote: this is also why some later plot points like Mirio's return and how Deku unlocks his other quirks don't work well. Usually we got to see Deku's thinking processes and there was buildup before a plot twist so the conclusion was satisfactory. But later in the story Hori flipped that around and now we see the conclusion first and then he has to quickly explain to the reader how we got there by shoving in some quick flashbacks. Obviously that isn't as satisfying)
Obviously Hawks distanced himself from his mother for years so it's realistic that he would have already gone through that process on his own and wouldn't need to needlessly think about it now. But just because it's realistic doesn't mean it's good for the story. If the character has already reached a point where something in their past doesn't affect their actions in the now, then we don't really need to know about it. Unless the character is about to make a decision based on their past then we don't need to see it now.
Hawks doesn't make the connection in his mind how similar he and Dabi actually are, even though we can all clearly see the parallels in his flashback.
Both came from abusive households, but one was "saved" and rose to a higher status, while the other ended up homeless in the streets. They took opposite journeys.
The logical thing would be that they'd be able to understand each other, but they don't. If the flashback was supposed to be functional for the story then Hawks should have made that connection.
The Endeavor stuff:
Hawks says "Endeavor is in trouble", and the story wants us to feel sympathy for him. We see him crying from guilt but I honestly don't care. He can cry all he wants, but as long as he keeps this atonement arc thing centered around himself and his own feelings it will feel self serving and inauthentic and I can't feel anything for someone so pathetic.
As Rei so elegantly put it "Regret. Guilt. Everybody's feeling those feelings much more than you.", "The one in the most pain isn't you".
So when Hawks defends him I honestly can't understand what exactly his logic is. Yes for the reader/viewer Endeavor's atonement arc has been an ongoing thing for a while now. But for the majority of the characters in the story, they literally just learned that the number one hero, the person after All Might, the person who's supposed to invoke the feeling of safety to the public, is a domestic abuser. This is news to most people, including Hawks.
Endeavor was Hawks' idol, the person he looked up to the most. He was his hero, because he arrested his father and saved him. He must feel a more personal connection to him because of that.
When your view of someone you held in such high regard gets shuttered like this, you naturally have conflicted feelings. But in the hospital scene we see that Hawks' immediate thought is to help Endeavor even though he's not the victim here. He doesn't seem all that conflicted at all.
We do get one little hint with him asking if the scar on Shouto's face is because of Enji as well, but once he gets the answer "no" he immediately changes the subject to "how we can save Endeavor's image to the public"!! He doubts the validity of Dabi's claims and immediately assumes that things must be different now even though he just learned about this with the rest of the world and he has no indication that Endeavor is trying to become a better person.
So the fact that the dramatic irony of Hawks idolising an abuser who saved him from another abuser is completely lost on him feels rather stupid in my honest opinion. I'm not saying it's out of character exactly, I'm just saying it feels stupid even if it's in character and I personally dislike that story decision.
I didn't care much about the teenage Enji flashback, but I will agree with one thing he said. Endeavor truly is pathetic and weak. But not for the reason his teenage self implies in the manga.
Teen Enji implies that current Enji is weak because of his emotions. Because he feels guilty for his crimes against his family and is trying to atone (at least that's how I understood it). But in reality those emotions just make him human.
His weakness comes from the fact that he still doesn't have the guts to face his biggest mistake, Dabi. He let Shouto go fight his brother on his own, even though they had agreed to face him together. And even though Shouto had no obligation to do this, because it's not his responsibility to fix his father's mistakes, he still did it.
Touya had to seek out Endeavor himself, to force him to look at him, because even after so many years he's still avoiding him like the plague!
In the end as you said Hawks didn't really contribute to Endeavor's character arc because he himself has stagnated as a character. Endeavor on the other hand has progressed in the way he views his family and how he feels about them, but he's yet to prove that he's committed to changing for the better with his actions.
Neither of their characters are progressing in a way I would have preferred, but this is Horikoshi's story to tell so I can't do much about that.
I'm hoping Hawks' character arc will be continued now that he is forced to interact with Toga and the Twice clones. But it still feels odd that both Hawks and Endeavor need to be forced for their character arcs to continue. It's an interesting parallel that they both avoid making a decision until they're backed into a corner and forced by the narrative/other characters (Toga and Dabi in this case)
We can see this even when Hawks kills Twice. He wastes a ton of time talking to him because he doesn't actually want to follow the orders he's been given, even though he fully intended to follow them from the beginning. This might sound contradictory but it isn't. Hawks enters his fight with Twice, already having convinced himself that his attempts at turning Twice to his side will fail. So he doesn't actually listen to what Twice is telling him and thus doesn't understand why his offer to help is rejected.
If he had made an attempt to understand Twice better then he could have very easily made a better offer that included helping the rest of the league.
Another very easy thing would have been for Hawks to just arrest Twice with or without making an offer. We know he could have done this easily because the fight starts with Hawks already having Twice pinned down to the floor. He had him immobilised for several minutes that he could have used to very easily arrest him or kill him. But he doesn't do either. He avoids making a decision until he can't avoid it anymore.
When Dabi joins the fight, that's when Hawks becomes desperate. Up until that point he was mostly standing still and using his feathers to do all the work. Now suddenly he has to move around and dodge Dabi's flames while also keeping an eye on Twice. He has no way to avoid his orders anymore so he kills Jin.
Up until Dabi joins the fight Hawks had plenty of other options he could have chosen, but he didn't. Because in his mind the decision has already been made for him, by the end of this encounter Twice will be dead.
Anyway I should find a way to end this....
sparkles āØāØāØāØāØ!!!

I saw someone say āIida only wanted to be a hero to uphold the family name, not out of a selfless desire to help othersā and like. First of all, a selfless desire to help others is an ideal held by very few in the hero profession (even Midoriya, though I love him and think heās noble as fuck, can be argued to have some sort of stake in saving others - he wants to save people because he thinks everyone deserves to be saved, sure, but also because he thinks saving people is the only way heās worth anything which is untrue and fucked up, but also not the point of this post), and second of all, that may have been true at first, but Iida (along with Uraraka and Todoroki but theyāre not the point of this post) is actually one of the best examples of character growth among the heroes I think.
The first impression we get of Iida is that heās uptight and rude to Midoriya at the entrance exam. However, his rudeness came out of his desire for fairness - he wanted each examinee to have their best chance to succeed at the exam, so he told Midoriya that he was distracting him during micās explanation, and when he thought Midoriya was going to distract Uraraka he stops him from doing so (yes Midoriya was just going to try to thank Uraraka from stopping him from tripping, but Iida had no way of knowing about that). After the entrance exam, Iida is one of the first to consider that there are other aspects to being a hero, and theorizes there might be more to the exam (something nobody else to our knowledge, not even Midoriya himself, figures out until itās announced flat out). When he finds out he was right, he apologizes to Midoriya as soon as heās able. Then itās because he assumes Midoriya figured it out as well, not because he has actively changed his view about being a hero yet, but it is the first step towards him doing so, and it reveals a common trend with his character - Iida desperately wants to do the right thing, and does not shy away from the consequences when he does something wrong. He realizes he made a bad choice, adjusts his worldview, apologizes, and attempts to make up for it and do better in the future.
At first, Iida wants to be a hero because he wants to make his family proud, especially his brother, whom he idolizes. However, the Stain incident changes things. Stain calls him out for not trying to save someone who clearly needs it - a problem that Iida himself identified during the entrance exam but dismissed then, as he convinced himself that he would save someone in need in an actually dangerous situation - and this is then backed up by Midoriya showing up to save him (and changing his plan from grabbing Iida and running to fighting stain to stall for time when he noticed someone else was in danger), and Todoroki showing up to save Midoriya. At first he is just confused and scared (which considering that heās like 15, paralyzed on the ground, bleeding from a stab wound, and his friends are fighting a serial killer to protect him and heās scared that heāll die and worse also that his friends will die because of his mistakes, I think is justified), drowning in self pity and trying to get Todoroki and Midoriya to leave, recognizing that heās made a mistake and not wanting them to get hurt for it, but then Midoriya and Todoroki get through to him - theyāre saving him because heās their friend but also because thatās what heroes do, and Todoroki tells him to āstand up and be the hero you want to become!ā, so he does.
At this point I think it really sinks in for him that becoming a hero isnāt just about protecting his familyās legacy - itās about saving people. Sure he knew that it was part of the job before, but this is when he realizes what that really means, why his brother thinks people who help lost children are āthe coolest in the worldā. In typical Iida fashion though, he accepts this change in the way he sees the world, and adjusts his behavior to compensate for it. He realizes that letting your personal feelings seep into the job is not always a good idea and begins to focus himself on getting better at saving people (this btw is why he gets so mad at Midoriya when he goes after bakugou - Midoriyaās making an emotional, reckless decision and sticking his nose into a situation that, theoretically, the pro heroes have handled, letting his feelings win out over logic when he promised Iida theyād get better together, needlessly putting himself in danger and completely ignoring how to Iida it looks like Midoriyaās making the same kind of mistake he did, disregarding his promise. No Iida probably shouldnāt have punched him and yes the rescue mission turned out well, but Midoriya was being quite inconsiderate and Iida apologized as soon as heād somewhat calmed down which is more than almost any other character has done so!!).
Iidaās growth is shown even further in recent manga chapters, where he ignores orders (even though a big part of his character is following the rules), because he knows his friends are in danger without much backup and he wants to save them like they saved him, deeming that more important than following the rules. In addition, when he gets to the battlefield he doesnāt take unnecessary risks that would put him more in danger and make his presence a liability, but instead takes a position of support, taking orders at the scene and caring for bakugou since no one else whoās present is able to do so. He is here not just because of his emotions, but because he judged it a reasonable risk to take, and believed that he could be useful in saving people. At this point in time he is no longer thinking about his reputation, but how he can best help, and I love that for him.
In conclusion stan Iida!!!
#iida tenya#bnha#bnha manga spoilers#bunny and elliot dont look#he is so much more than just a comic relief character!!!#he is a good boy who values justice and fairness and at this point heās really devoted himself to saving people!!#this is an old draft that Iām gonna queue but ykw Iām right!!

Bakugou Apologized and I Have Some Constructive Criticism
So, I read the fan translation for Bakugou's apology, and I figured I'd analyze it to the best of my ability. Well, not analyze, more like give my opinion on it.
I want to start off by saying that I'm not an anti. I'm I'm a stan either. I'm tagging this as both, though because I want to hear every side, and think about everyone's opinions so that I can make sure mine is the best it can be.
Also yes, I know it's fan translated and that the official will probably be different, but I wanted to have fun and do it anywayš„°
Please note that this is my opinion. You are more than welcome(in fact encouraged) to tell about your own opinion in the replies, but please be respectful.
Everything I write here is to be read in the most respectful and kind tone. It's how I was meaning for it to be read. I'm sorry if it doesn't come off that way, but please know I am in no way trying to be rude with anything I say.
Now then, let's get started.
First of all, he starts out with a bit of an insult "you were always far behind me" thats not true, but it's Bakugou's opinion. I'm not sure I like how he states it as fact. "You were always so far behind me." Rather than "I used to think you were always so far behind me." or "I thought you were so far behind me."
Bakugou does, however, imply that him looking down on Izuku because of him being quirkless is wrong, and I think that's awesome.
After this, he starts giving a reason(a pretty illogical one, in my opinion) as to why he bullied Deku. Bakugou felt that Izuku was somehow miles ahead of him. Next he goes into what he felt, why he felt the need to hurt Izuku. It's because of something he was feeling. And of course, how could you talk about that with someone? Especially being immature and at that age(around five or so). He didn't have to talk about it, but hurting someone is never the option(we knew this already).
Next he talks about how he was distant. And OK, that's good. He should have been distant.
Except he wasnt distant.
I can admit that on normal circumstances Bakugou didn't go out of his way to speak to Midoriya, but when Deku would speak to/compliment him, insults were thrown. Bakugou should have been distant then. Also, "I grew up distant and always tried to beat you down" are contradictions to eachother, imo. Bakugou, back in middle school, went out of his way to bully deku. That's not distant. Now back when they were small, yes. I'd say Bakugou was kind of distant. He still made fun of Izuku though, so he probably wasn't as distant as he thinks he was.
Next he talks about he could never truly be superior to Deku, how he always lost. But this is(in my opinion), unnecessary. He's giving all these reasons as to how things didn't work out for him, and that last part being placed well....last kinda makes it seem like because everything didn't work out right, he's sorry. I know this isn't how its meant, but I feel it could have been worded differently. I can't help but wonder, though, if Izuku had submitted, if Bakugou had been superior in his own eyes, if he'd succeeded, would he still be sorry?
In alot of cases, though, Bakugou succeeded in beating Midoriya down(temporarily). Physically anyway(the final exam, and when he impaled Izuku with his headpiece).
(Note: A differing opinion has lead me to think differently about this. Bakugou had become distant in an emotional sense, he and Deku weren't as close as they were before. No longer besties, if you understand me.)
At least, after this, Bakugou explains that he realizes nothing he said really matters. I like that he can understand this, and I appreciate that he feels Izuku is owed an explanation at least. The one thing I hate about this is that his reasoning for doing what he did is longer than his apology. His apology is one line.
It's just one. If someone told me that they put me through hell because of an idea they'd placed in their own head that was so incredibly far from the truth(like Bakugou saying that he thought Izuku was looking down on him during their first battle at Ground Beta), I wouldn't feel any better. As a matter of fact, I'd feel worse about it. There is literally nothing Izuku could have done to prevent the bullying. Even if he wasn't quirkless, Bakugou back then, might not have been able to fathom the idea of someone being even a little better than him. So he probably still would have bullied Deku. Only this time Izuku might have been able to fight back depending on the quirk he would have been born with.
If someone murdered my mother, and stood in court explaining why, far more than being sorry, I wouldn't be any happier. Yes, the reason matters, but the amount of time you spend explaining the reason should be virtually nonexistent compared to the time you spend showing remorse and sorrow.
I very much enjoy how he understands that Izuku wanting to leave UA and go it alone wasn't necessarily wrong. I think Bakugou is correct here. Nice Bakugou, very cool.
I'm also very happy that Izuku apologizes for saying that everyone couldn't keep up. Very cool, Izuku.
Please don't get me wrong, though. I'm proud of Bakugou for even bringing this up regardless of how he did it. I think that Bakugou apologizing is a huge step in the proper direction. I cant help but be concerned over how he'll be different in the future though.
Well, why would I be worried about this? Because he's shown promise before, but soon after goes back to being pretty rude. Bakugou explained to that child that looking down on others would prevent him from realizing his own weakness "If you keep looking down on everyone, then you won't notice your own weakness."(My Hero Academia Episode 80(sub): Relief For License Trainees -16:00). Yet, he continued to look down on others in a sense, even as recently as the Endeavor Training Arc. Bakugou's arrogance continues, even when he realizes that looking down on others is wrong. He claims that Todoroki could never notice something he didn't already notice(My Hero Academia Episode 103(sub): One Thing at a Time -7:18). And when he claims that Endeavor, the Number 1 Hero, is ripping off of his style "He's copying my Explosion" (My Hero Academia Episode 103(sub): One Thing at a Time -6:50).
Truly, I hope Bakugou's arrogance and negative confidence will subside, and we'll be able to witness him being blatantly and openly kind to others. I'm not asking Bakugou to change his character, he could become an Inosuke(Demon Slayer) of sorts. He could even become a more obvious Tsundere, with the narrative showing his thoughts and agreeing with him actually caring in a more obvious fashion.
But, that's just what I think
Once again, feel free to comment your opinion on my criticisms of Bakugou's apology, or even tell me what you think about it! I love hearing differing opinions.

I saw somebody say the difference between Dabi and Shigaraki is that Dabi doesn't want to be saved and is completely cut off from his emotions while Shigaraki wants to be saved deep down and he is still in touch with his emotions. I know both of them will be saved in the end, but what are your thoughts? A lot of people say Dabi doesn't want to be saved but I think he convinced himself that he is worthless and not worth saving. I wish we could see more of Touya's internal thoughts.
Okayāforewarning, any bitchy tone youāre gonna read is not directed at you anon, but at the āsomebodyā or the people you are referring to. Also this is probably gonna turn out long and Iām on mobile and it wonāt let me add a ācutā, so I apologize in advance.
You know whatās absolutely hilarious? The fact that villain haters have been saying the EXACT. SAME. THING. about SHIGARAKI this entire fucking time. But it gets betterāin my short time in this fandom (about a year or so nowāgod) I have seen the hero-stan side of the fandom go through its own character arc lmao:
āDeku would never wanna save Shigaraki! Shig hurt too many people and that goes against Dekuās values!ā (Chapter 295 comes out)
āThat was just Deku saying he looked like he needed help, that doesnāt mean heās actually going to go save him! Thereās a difference!ā (Chapter 305 comes out)
āDeku wants to save him but heās not going to be able to because Shigaraki doesnāt want it, and heās too far gone to be reached at this point.ā
And then this:
āWell DABI CANāT BE SAVED BECAUSE HEāS NOT REACTING LIKE SHIGARAKI!!ā
All that to sayāmaybe, just maybe, donāt listen to these fucking idiots. I wonāt even try to venture to twitter or wherever to see their reactions to Tenko (not Shigaraki, not AFOāTENKO) literally calling out FOR a heroāand um, Midoriya specifically. Because theyāll just make up some other excuse. Or theyāll do what you said and try to impose their idiotic takes onto Dabi because they realize that they are in fact, losing this game of reading comprehension they dared to play. Lol.
My thoughts on that areā-Dabi and Shigaraki are two completely different characters. One is significantly more developed, more 3D, more in your face, and his fate is tied to the main characterās. What does this mean? It means Shigaraki is going to get more focus. His inner world will be shown to us more, and it will be more transparent, and he will be easier for us to read. Alsoāhis arc and Midoriyaās are spoon feeding us the theme of the story: Heroes save. Their plot line is so easy to follow. Itās straight forward and blunt. Itās so straight forward that the author shocked even ME when he made the main villain call out for his hero by name. I seriously did not expect that. But Horikoshi is not playing games with Shigarakiās arc. Heās no longer making the connection between them with āsubtleā parallels, but now with the dialogue from both sides.
Dabi doesnāt get that same treatment. Why?
Because even now, heās still an enigma in the story. Heās a mystery. His identity was a mystery the entire story up until 40 or so chapters ago, and we havenāt seen him since and we havenāt gotten any inner exploration of his thoughts. He has not narrated any part of the story by himself (save for right before Twiceās death). Soāpeople who are surface level readers (which are the people you are describing) are going to just see a villain with no emotions who doesnāt care. But that is such a misreading of not just his character, but the entire Todoroki Family sub plot.
Unfortunately, Dabi doesnāt get to have individual arc privileges it seems. At least not yet. Right now, honestly, he reads as a plot device for Endeavorās atonement and for the Todoroki family reconciliation. Meaning, his characterās purpose in the story is to restore the family, not necessarily to develop into his own fully fleshed out character. I am HOPING šš¼šš¼šš¼ that this changes when we get back to the Todofam, back to Shouto. But I donāt know that it will. Iām not getting my hopes up. Dabi also gets different treatment because the overall tone and theme of his story isnāt necessarily āheroes saveā. That does play into it, yes, that is the thematic umbrella the Todoroki family falls under, but they also have a different message altogether. Their story is about family. BNHA puts a lot of focus on family, and the vast majority of that vibe is from the Todofam.
I donāt think itās a matter of if Dabi wants to be saved, or even thinks he can be. Itās about him realizing that he has an opportunity to have an identity outside of his dad and his trauma (by going home to his siblings) and by realizing that he isnāt alone, and that he isnāt the only one from his family who believes itās Endeavorās fault, not his. Thatās where Shoutoās words will weigh the heaviest. Shouto will be that eye opener for him.
What we DO know about Dabi, is that he cares about his siblings, and misses them (chapters 191, 301, and 302 are proof of that). So that alone is enough for him to turn it around and be saved. He doesnāt have to be like Shigaraki who is calling out for his hero. Theyāre two different characters with two different origins. Shigaraki needed a hero after his family died, Touya needed his family after HE died. Theyāre two different people with different needs. So no, they arenāt going to present to readers the same.
Sorry this turned out so long. Anywayādonāt listen to those people, or whoever is saying that. Theyāve been wrong this whole time and are grasping at any straw they can to remain ārightā. Theyāre gonna lose, donāt worry.

Meeting His Father
Summary: Headcanons about when you meet Shoutoās father.
A/N: I wonāt normally write headcanons, mostly because I donāt really know how, but I canāt really think of how to write this as an actual one-shot, so Iāve giving hcs a shot.
You guys are going to have to be dating for a looooooooong while before he even thinks about you getting near his father
He wonāt be like he was with Izuku, itās going to take a little while before he tells you anything about his mother or father
Not because he doesnāt trust you, he doesnāt want you to think that, but he doesnāt want to scare you off
He knows that his family isnāt exactly normal, and it never really bothered him until he starts making real friends and makes up with his mother
Like, he got lonely and everything, but he thought that it was how everyoneās family acted
When he meets your parents heās shocked to see how much they care about you
Like, they might not be perfect, no parents are, but theyāre so different from his
Shouto would definitely take you to visit his mother first
Not just because sheās clearly his favorite parent, but because he wants you two to get along.
Iām not saying that if she doesnāt like you that heās gonna dump you, but itāll certainly put a strain on things
She loves you though, and itās a good first step
If Iām being honest, I would love to have you run into him randomly
Just imagine wandering through the city on a rare day off with Shouto and youāre too busy laughing with each other to notice the giant man until you bump into him
And you go to apologize only to see an off-duty Enji Todoroki standing there looking absolutely pissed because??????
Thatās his son???? laughing???? smiling???? with a person he doesnāt know?????
Shouto is automatically tense and trying to back up with his arm in front of you protectively like, Touch them and I will end you
And I feel like his dad would try to be polite, mostly because he is in a public place where he has an image he needs to protect, but he thinks youāre rather plain, and he doubts that you have the right connections that would benefit him
And I feel like, as mad as you probably are, you donāt want to make a scene in public, so you try to make small talk until you can leave without being rude, despite Shouto clearly trying to pull you away
But he makes one bad comment about Shouto, or your relationship, and you will explode on him
This man has been abusing his kids for years, he pushed his wife so much she had a mental break and poured boiling water on her son, and if he expects you to let that slide, man is he WRONG
(A/N: I am not pro-Enji or an Enji stan or anything. If he wasnāt a pro hero, and if he wasnāt rich enough to have everything covered up, then he would be in jail for abuse, child endangerment, and who knows what else, but if he wasnāt those things, things mightāve been different for his family to begin with
Donāt get me wrong, I think itās great that heās trying to become a better person, but I also think itās a few years too late. But itās also up to his family if they want to forgive him or not)
Anyway, if you blow up on him, then he will be surprised
Not only is this person clearly pissed at him, theyāre getting in his face about it
Heās probably not used to confrontation like that
There is a shit ton of political bullshit heās had to put up with for years, but straight up confrontation is probably something that heās a little rusty on
Whatās even more surprising is the blatant pride on his sonās face as he watches you blow up on his father
His father is probably more surprised at how much you care for his son than heās surprised by what youāre saying to him
Shouto will be behind you, watching proudly as you glare his father down and defend Shouto even as your face turns red from all the talking
He knows that you care for him, but the fact that youāre doing this for him, considering his father is the #1 hero and very powerful regardless, kind of cements it for him
When you pull Shouto away, he will wait until youāre out of his fatherās line of sight before hugging you close to him, kissing you, and thanking you for what you said
Even after you assure him that you meant it all and that it was true, and that it needed to be said by someone, he is going to thank you and tell you how proud he is to be your boyfriend

Things I want to see in the future of MHA
(not just post-war stuff, but also the entire series. Some of these are kinda self-indulgent)
1. Endeavor and Hawksā judgment
I honestly donāt know if I want to see them punished or pardoned. Iām interested in both of those so Iāll just trust Horikoshi on that one. But anyways, thereās no way they arenāt getting shit for this.
2. Whatever the āfake heroesā are gonna do after this
Going back to Stainās ideology about fake heroes. I agree with parts of it, there are a lot of people that become heroes without the conviction. They get into it by treating it the same way as any other office job, not as a mission to be well, heroes. But I donāt agree that they should be killed or eliminated. Being a hero for money isnāt inherently a bad thing, itās when you let greed take over you to the point that you forget what it means to be a hero. Some of those āfake heroesā like Mt. Lady who was originally in it for the fame and money have grown to become real heroes. Others who really have zero conviction, will probably quit after facing this amount of despair, like the guy in chapter 296.
3. The Todoroki familyās image
How will everyone else see the victims of the situation, Natsuo, Fuyumi, Rei and Shoto after this? Especially Shoto. Now that his past is out in the public, that will probably affect his future as a pro. Would his classmates and peers see him or treat him differently after this? Like out of pity or sympathy?
4. The publicās backlash in general
How will the public start viewing not just Endeavor, Hawks, and the Todoroki family, but all heroes? Will they lose faith in heroes? We know they kinda already are when UA had a lot of backlash when Bakugo was kidnapped. UA as well, will it get shut down?
5. Bakudekuās talk
I donāt think their relationship is actually gonna stay the same after this whole āmy body moved on its own because I care for you and wanted to save you so I just got stabbed and risked my life for you and even told you to stop trying to be so selfless and do everything by yourselfā thing. All Might also did foreshadow that they were gonna talk soon. Maybe we could get the long awaited Bakugo apology scene ? Though it feels way too soon. And if Hori feeds us Bakudekus even more I think weāre just gonna combust.
5. Dekuās character development
His mindset and view of the world will probably be way darker and even more serious after this. I also want to see how Bakugo getting hurt for his sake and saying ādonāt play hero all by yourselfā will affect him. We know that he has decided to become a hero that wouldnāt make anyone worry about him when he had a flashback of his mom crying and being worried for him. He decided that the solution to that is to be stronger, but now maybe he can learn that selflessness doesnāt necessarily mean that he has to carry all the weight by himself. But then thereās the 4th userās quirk that will probably push him to be even more selfless.
6. Ochakoās development
Please please PLEASE let this girl have more development. The way her fight against Toga ended, and her seeing the grievous side of being a hero? Probably a set up for her development.
7. Basically the rest of the kidsā development?
Obviously itās not just the people involved in the fight against Shigaraki, or Ochako that are gonna view the world differently after this. I wanna see how they will deal with this. Kirishima and Mina will probably be some of the highlights. Also Momo, since Midnight meant a lot to her when she was the one that trusted Momo to lead their classes in the battle against Gigantomachia.
8. Aizawa and Present Mic dealing with Midnightās death
Those two are especially highlighted amongst all of the other UA staff members because they have a past with her, as shown in vigilantes. We saw their anger and sadness about Shirakumo, what more when it comes to Midnight?
9. The villains dealing with their losses
Yes, know Toga went on a rampage after Twiceās death, but how will she and deal with it in the long run? How about losing Mr. Compress? How will Shigaraki react to both of those, and having the other Paranormal Liberation Front members like Geten captured? Not just emotionally, but how about the loss in terms of strength and power?
10. Prison break arc
People have been talking about this for years, maybe ever since we knew All for One was only imprisoned and not killed. Weāll probably see it happen next chapter. Will it cause the public to lose even more faith in the hero system? How will it affect the villains? Will AFO be their boss now, or will they resist him and stay loyal to Shigaraki?
11. All for One vs Shigaraki
Related to the previous point. We know Shigaraki really doesnāt want AFO bossing him around. Theyāll probably have a fight. Maybe Deku and Shigaraki vs AFO? Then theyāll go back to fighting each other once the common threat is gone. This doesnāt feel very likely, but it could be a way of interpreting Dekuās āyou looked like you needed savingā at the end of chapter 295.
11. Dekuās arms?
I donāt know if I want him to lose them and get prosthetics, or get healed by Eri. It would be great to see him experience a major loss, but ability-wise and emotionally? Not so good for him, though thatās kinda the point. Also he might not be able to use OFA in his arms anymore and I kinda donāt wanna see that. Even if he can, will he be able to use it at 100%? So far, weāve seen that the level of technology in MHA arenāt enough to withstand 100%
12. Deku mastering One for All
I wanna see him consistently use 100% without injuring himself. I want to see him do more with black whip, float and the fourth userās quirk. Iām also curious about the other three quirks left.
13. Power buff for everyone else
I kinda donāt wanna see the MC getting so ahead of everyone else, to the point that they leave everyone else in the dust. But I know that itās been established way earlier on that Deku will surpass everyone in terms of strength. Even now, Bakugo, one of the strongest in Class 1-A could barely catch up with 30% OFA. But from his internal dialogue in chapter 293, Iām guessing he already had a quirk evolution when he saw Deku at the verge of death. I want to see more details on that though.
14. Everyone elseās reaction to Bakugoās sacrifice
Itās gonna be a big thing for his character and all, but I donāt think this is gonna happen because of well, everything else being a mess. But maybe at least All Mightās?
15. Dekuās father
I donāt want him to be a really big famous, important figure, or someone involved in this whole AFO vs OFA stuff. It will kinda ruin Dekuās character of like, ājust an ordinary boy that was lucky and so his character arc is to be worthy of that blessingā. If Dekuās father was someone like that, that would mean he was the fated or chosen one in the first place anyways? But what else can Dekuās dad be? I honestly donāt know.
16. All Mightās death
I see so many people complain that he shouldāve died in Kamino, but I disagree because saving that big moment for later was actually a good decision. We know heās gonna die, he has death flags everywhere. But I wonder how exactly he will die, when he will die, and how big of an impact his death will have.
17. The final battle
As in, the last battle of the entire series. Deku vs Shigaraki rematch, Ochako vs Toga, Shoto vs Dabi. And for Bakugo, well...... he doesnāt really have a villain nemesis? (Huh maybe Iāll talk about that some other time) But the best I could think of right now is Bakugo and Deku vs Shigaraki, like in Heroes Rising. If the Heroes Rising ending was the original series ending, maybe Hori was hinting that Bakugo and Deku will be fighting the final boss together?
18. Bakugo and Deku as a hero duo
Related to the previous point. Shipping lenses aside, I think thereās plenty of foreshadowing for that? Even if they wouldnāt officially be hero partners, Iām guessing theyāre both gonna be important pillars. āWin to save, save to winā
19. The ending
I want to see how they will fix the broken hero society. I want to see Class 1-A as wonderful heroes. I want satisfying closure for the villains as well. What I donāt want to see is everyone getting married and having kids like Naruto, and those kids being the characters for a sequel series. Iām sorry but as much as I like a lot of the ships, I think thatās probably one of the worst endings possible. But a next generation sequel actually wouldnāt be that bad if the main characters were the established kid characters we already know and love, Eri, Kota, Katsuma and Mahoro. We can see through them how the new hero system/society works, and maybe all the smaller subtle stuff that they still need to patch up. Other than that, I donāt think thereās anything else good about it.
20. Deku becoming the greatest hero
Also very much related to the previous point but I only remembered it afterwards. We know itās gonna happen, but how? Also notice that while Bakugo always says ānumber one heroā, Deku always just says āgreatest heroā, which kinda arenāt the same thing. Maybe itās just cuz Iām a Bakugo stan, but I donāt think itās a good idea to just let the rival characters be content with number two? Either āBakugo is the number one in ranking while Deku is the greatest heroā, or āDeku is the greatest and number one hero but their rivalry hasnāt ended and itās a push-pullā thing. Or just kill one of them (cough Bakugo cough) and itāll be fine.
21. Other people finding out about OFA
I don't think it's going to stay a secret between Deku, Bakugo and All Might anymore. At the very least, the people involved in the fight against Shigaraki, like Shoto, Aizawa and Endeavor should be given an explanation on why Shigaraki was targeting Deku in particular. At worst, it becomes public news and Deku will now have to deal with a much a greater pressure of everyone expecting him to take up All Might's mantle. I'd rather go with the former, but the latter is also interesting I guess. Or if not those, they'd have to come up with a really good excuse.
Anyways thatās all I can think of for now? Thereās probably way more at the back of my head. Iāll just edit whenever.

BNHA Rewrite Headcanons
These are basically some headcanons if I were to rewrite BNHA without the things KoheiĀ āSexualize teenage girls, have a literal p/rvert be apart of the cast and s/xually harass his female classmates, give a redemption arc to a literal ab/ser, kill off the token trans characterā Horikoshi put into it.
Some notes: This rewrite will take place in a college setting since that seems more appropriate and youāre not having CHILDREN fight in a WAR so yeah.
Bkdk, Kcchko, Tdbk, Endhawks, Togatwice, Erasermight shippers & Mineta, Mitsuki, Endeavor, Overhaul, Mt. Lady, and Best Jeanist stans DNI

Izuku doesnāt get One For All and I donāt think he even needs one because we SAW how he jumped in to save Bakugo during the first episode. Heās gonna show the world that a Quirkless person like him can become a hero. Because of this All Might takes him under his wing not to be his successor, but as an apology for telling him that he couldnāt be a hero.
End*avor goes to jail and Rei gets therapy. She then remarries and gets with Shotoās loving and caring stepfather who treats all of his step children equally as though they were his own.
M*tsuki gets thrown in jail and Bakugo gets adopted by Miruko and Burnin because he deserves better parents.
M*neta doesnāt exist and instead Ibara is in Class 1-A
Shinso gets into Class 1-B but doesnāt care
Magne lives and is able to transition
Twice is a parental figure to Toga instead of being her love interest
Toga isnāt a y/ndere. She sees herself as a vigilante who kills ab/sive and neglectful parents
Anyway, onto the meat and bones of this.
Jirou blew up on Tiktok because Aoyama filmed them doing a heavy metal cover ofĀ āWe Appreciate Powerā by Grimes
The 1-A and 1-B girls get together every Friday night and have a chick flick marathon
Iida thought about cutting his hair by Aoyama was against it
Todoroki and Izuku went out and got matching tattoos
The Bakusquad started a podcast as a joke one night but then became legitimately committed to it
Jirou and Momo were trending on Twitter after Denki made a post about them with the captionĀ āgirlboss and malewife? I only know girlboss and punkwifeā
Tokoyami knows some of the best underground restaurants and they get yelled at by most of the others
Koda and Todoroki are really good friends and they bonded over their shared unsurety about their new independence so they got some animals
Sato is another student that blew up on Tiktok because he was baking one time and the others thought it was a good idea to record him

Ultimatum: The Art of Lying In A Made Bed
(Or Why My Experience With Chapter 285 Is Contrary To Everyone Else's)
[Manga Spoilers Ahead. Also Opinions. Feel Free To Ignore.]
After Chapter 284, many fans were wondering how the story of BNHA would follow up on Katsuki's development. Now that Chapter 285 is officially out, fans are clamoring about Katsuki's latest acts of heroism, about how his arc is finally kicking it into high gear.
I'd be inclined to agree, butā¦ you know how these things go.
[Heads up fans/stans, if you like Katsuki you might wanna bail. The word vomit that follows is pretty much incoherent and reflects my disaster of a thought process.]
I was looking forward to Chapter 285. I had my reservations on the execution of Chapter 284, but if the next chapter could follow it up and then some, I'd be pleasantly surprised. But then the leaks came out. And then the fan translation. And as of today, the official VIZ translation.
While everyone else is cheering for explosion boy, I'm justā¦ done.
285 didn't get me to see how far Bakugo's journey has come. 285 didn't get me to finally root for him. And maybe I am making this decision prematurely, maybe I am missing something, butā¦
...the way things are going in the story I just- I just CAN'T root for him.
And I'm not saying the rest of you can't, if you're still reading. Katsuki is definitely a different person compared to Chapter 1, a better person, and he's definitely been heading on the up and up! If you can and want to support him, then by all means, go for it, don't let me stop you! It's justā¦
For me, chapter 284 was a wavering torch: a flicker of hope that sometimes dwindled, but was still there. Chapter 285 was the moment where I wanted to jump on the Katsuki Development Train, to finally gain some semblance of respect for him. But when I jumped, I landed on the tracks, and had to crawl back onto the platform.
I missed my chance to jump on that train. Whether it's because of previous circumstances or recent circumstances, I'll never knowā¦
You probably wanna ask me at this point, "But Crimson, why DIDN'T Chapter 285 make you see the awe inspiring pinnacle of character development that is Katsuki Bakugo???"
To put it simply: it's a culmination thing.
For starters, there's a sort ofā¦ whiplash with Katsuki's development in the last few chapters. People like me will complain that Katsuki's development is too slow, in the case of the last 2-3 chapters, it feels like a switch was flipped, and now it's become too fast. Perhaps it's a me thing, but let me try to explainā¦
Shoto starts out as a standard background character. By the time he gets his spotlight in the Sports Festival, he comes off as reserved and antagonistic. After the whole "it's your power" moment, Shoto is finally able to accept the side he always hated. Then Katsuki fights Shoto, and we're shown he still needs time to grow; his left side comes with a lot of baggage he can't just brush off in the span of a single sparring match.
Fastforward to Hosu. Shoto's starting to take other people into better account. He's starting to learn to better control his fire. He's reconnected with his mother. His goal is no longer one-upping his old man; he has goals, people, that he wants to protect. He's coming into his own and wants others to do the same, like Tenya.
He joins the Katsuki Rescue Squad because, like Izuku, he had an opportunity to save Katsuki, didn't, and now he wants to make up for it. When we get to the Provisional License Exam, we're yet again slammed with the fact that his growth is still not done via Inasa, that there's still a bit of Endeavor he has to shake off, even if it was in the past. And he does progress towards that with the Remedial Course Arc. And while I have my opinions on the Endeavor Agency Arc, I'll admit that it was another development opportunity for Shoto and the Todoroki family. Shoto's growth comes with setbacks, but overall it's consistent.
Let's shift gears to Tenya, who's characterization I find fascinating. He starts out opposed to Izuku when they first meet at the Entrance Exam. He sees how Izuku is (for lack of a better phrase) "better qualified" at heroics thus far, reassesses his position, and apologizes whilst making amends. When Tenya resorts to LITERAL MURDER against Stain, the narrative does not let him go off without reprocussions. His arms are damaged, his supervisor's teaching license is revoked, and while he managed to avoid legal charges via police cover up, it still came close. Tenya listened to Stain's words, and opted to improve himself by that notion. He tries to set a better example, be a better class rep. It isn't a one and done.
Him lashing out during the Hideout Raid Arc is an offshoot of that. He doesn't deck Izuku just to be a dick; he's trying to knock some sense into him. They're so focused on Katsuki that they're forgetting about everyone else. Their friends, their teachers, their parents. If they f*** up like Tenya almost did at Hosu, they'll have hell to pay, and he doesn't want that. Of course, once they explain that combat/murder is not their M.O., Tenya tags along, if only to ensure the operation goes smoothly without this hitch. And again, Tenya keeps up. He looks after his classmates, looks after Izuku during the Shie Hassaikai arc. His growth is also consistent.
There are probably more characters I could elaborate on (Ochako, Momo, Eijiro, etc.), but I'll stop there. So, what's the deal with Katsuki's arc?
Well, it'sā¦ frustratingly back and forth.
It's one thing to have setbacks like Tenya and Shoto. It's something else entirely to have multiple setbacks and to keep trucking on with only abstract signs of development, but otherwise feeling like a very similar character compared to several chapters ago.
This is (in my opinion) Katsuki's problem. If we're going by what the manga stated, his arc technically started in Chapter 11: "Bakugo's Starting Line." But this is a rocky start. Izuku tells him about OFA right from the getgo out of guilt, but this neglects the fact that he's technically lying to everyone about it (including his new friends Ochako and Tenya), that OFA is a world-shattering secret, and that Katsuki is likely the worst person to tell this to considering that Izuku just handed Katsuki's ass to him and Katsuki was willing to use lethal force in their Trial. That aside, instead of say, sucking up his pride and opting to try and learn from everyone else, Katsuki doesn't really change strategies or approaches. He essentially does what he was planning to do since the start of UA; he's only crying because, SURPRISE, people are better than him. You'd think he'd expect that considering he called his middle school crappyā¦
After the USJ, once everyone had their "Lol Bakugo sux" moment on the bus ride, we get to the Sports Festival and everyone is clamoring to join Katsuki's team despite his apparent unapproachability. This feels less like something happened in the two weeks leading up to the Sports Festival, and more like history repeating itself from middle school. Moving on to the tournament, we don't even get to see how capable Katsuki is at serious combat. Two of his matches resort to Deus Ex Machina pulls, and the other two are in his corner by principle instead of difficult.
First off, Katsuki vs Ochako. I don't know why people praise this fight. For starters, it makes Katsuki HEAVILY OoC. Ochako is the only person he asks if she wants to back out before the match even starts. The ONLY person, which kinda undermines the whole "he didn't underestimate her" thing. Then he takes a reactionary stance the entire battle. Like, I thought we were still dealing with the "fist first" Katsuki. He does this to Eijiro, Fumikage, even Shoto, but Ochako? Stay still and then attack. Even if he did get his gravity removed, couldn't he justā¦ propelly himself and let her have it. If he was proactive, he could have ended the fight quicker. Instead, he just plays sitting duck and headless chicken. If you're gonna have Katsuki win the fight, don't bulls*** it.
Which brings me to the final bit of that fight: the meteor shower. Having Katsuki blow that away after supposedly expending most of his energy earlier in the match just does NOT sit right. Ochako gets the upper hand, and then you justā¦ negate that? You expect me to believe that Katsuki could generate an explosion at that magnitude, if nothing else? And what exactly does that do for him in the end? No one else tires him out for the remainder of the festival, which is pretty sketch.
(And yeah, I know I know "What part of her was frail?" but that's more of a retrospective thing than in the moment, coupled with the facf that it's never elaborated on again in any capacity, with Ochako or with someone else. It's a throwaway moment; a waste. Moving onā¦)
You really can't say much about the matchups with Eijiro and Fumikage. With Eijiro, it's an endurance match, and Katsuki apparently has infinite stamina and is on the attack. And he justā¦ rushes him, which I'm pretty sure anyone else would do. Then with Fumikage, Dark Shadow is weak to light. Katsuki's explosions emit light on contact. Do the math.
And I am especially mad at Katsuki vs Shoto because one, he stays in place yet again at the start of the match, and two, he can apparently ignore his Quirk' weakness to low temperatures. In a gym uniform. Against a glacier the size of a building. Even with his power output, you don't see his explosions dampening in magnitude. It's obviously in his favor, which defeats any tension the fight could have had. It sucks, and in the long run, as a wise man once said, "Todoroki should have folded [his] ass."
Then we get to the Final Exams (ABOUT DAMN TIME) andā¦ Katsuki hits Izuku for trying to cooperate, nearly gets knocked out once, and gets knocked out the second time around. He does not want to work with Izuku despite it being All Might, is petty enough to consider losing, and actively grumbles against working with Izuku. And all of his supposed self-preservation goes flying out the window when he's willing to try and beat All Might, leaving Izuku having to come and carry this boy out of the gate, which should not have let him pass.
Then there's the Training Camp attack. The second Izuku is mentioned, Katsuki decides to go AWOL, and while being kidnapped sucks, I am less sympathetic when you're boneheaded enough to help them capture you because you wanted to fight villains instead of getting to safety like the professionals recommended, all because of your one-sided hatefest with one of your classmates. Congrats, you played yourself.
Then we get to the Provisonal License Exam, which feels like a step in the right directionā¦ until you realize this will boil over into Deku vs Kacchan 2, which will get both of them in trouble, which will give Katsuki insight into OFA while Izuku gets shunned by his classmates, and which will prevent Katsuki from the one ass beating that could have potentially taught him something. It's essentially the narrative covering his ass, and then he has the gall to be happy about other people potentially getting set back just because he was set back. Geez dude.
The Cultural Festival essentially undoes what the Remedial Course Arc accomplishes, having Katsuki look down on the rest of UA when he said NOT to look down on people earlier. And then his speech is still heavily antagonistic to the rest of the school, and to the idea of basic human decency and kindness in general. And if I'm being honest, that whole "he can play drums" feels like a big ass pull to keep him in the spotlight. At least the story brought back his ability to cook down the line.
The Joint Training Arc is just shoe horning in regards to Katsuki. It acts like his gearing up towards saving, but the circumstances are heavily, heavily in his favor, and not in a good way. I've already brought up how Katsuki won't get "saving" until the Endeavor Arc, and how here he's just doing it to show off, so I won't go into it here. Then apparently he gets to outwit a recommendation student 'cause why not? It makes him look more impressive than he actually is, even though he outright states he hasn't changed much if at all. Not to mention the narrative makes it sound like he was some sort of underdog, even though he only got kidnapped and didn't get his license. And I know those are big things, but not enough to warrant his victory feeling that triumphant. I'd probably buy it if he didn't win the Sports Festival or pass the Final Exam. Keep him in that slump for longer than you actually do, or it lessens the impact. And let's not forget, he might have been willing to help Izuku with Blackwhip via fisticuffs, but the second he realized he wasn't getting anything out of it, he noped out. And it's been what, almost 200 chapters since his "starting line?"
I don't have much to say during the Endeavor Arc (that was its own can of worms),Ā but as for the War Arc thus farā¦ here's what I mean by "whiplash." The arc begins in Chapter 253. By Chapter 257, Katsuki will demonstrate how much he just does not give a f*** about Izuku's mastery over OFA so long as it looks like he'll come out on top. By Chapter 274, when Izuku's gotta split, it'll look like Katsuki has been thinking about some stuff, but by 275 he's gonna throw that out the window so he can attempt to one up Tomura and Izuku, and then he'll nearly get killed for it. And we won't know what exactly Katsuki is thinking until a flashback in Chapter 284 (which chronologically takes place after 257), where he has a conversation with All Might about his past with Izuku. Or at least the bullet points. If you're me, the start of the conversation feels less about Izuku and more so about his situation: his situation with OFA. And as much as I want to believe there was at least one good kernel in Katsuki that he was too stubborn to let out with Izuku, I feel like Katsuki only brings up him and his capabilities now because he got a Quirk. That's what put him on Katsuki's radar. That's what forced Katsuki to take notice of Izuku, what caused him to be unable to ignore his own weakness. Because of a Quirk. That'sā¦ borderline shallow, if not remarkably so.
And even when Katsuki is attempting to save Izuku in 285, his first thoughts are still on OFA. And even if we go by the line of thought that Katsuki is thinking "Even if OFA sucks, it's still Izuku's Quirk." And that's nice and all, but the flashback makes it seem like the Quirk is still All Might's Quirk as well. That all of Izuku's worth is hinged on the fact that he got a Quirk now and therefore can't be written off. Maybe he doesn't owe this to his accomplishments, but the narrative is terrible in its implications that Izuku wouldn't have gotten as much attention without it. At the end of the day, Katsuki is still associating Izuku's worth with his Quirk. And as much as I want to vaguely, vainly hope that this will change later on, I'm already at my limit
...and now that I've said my piece on almost the entire narrative thus far, let's shift gears to a few more tidbits in 285.
Again, the flashback. I think it's significant that they're shifting the focus briefly on middle school again. But you wanna know what sent me the wrong way? They didn't include the god forsaken suicide instigation. They can show Katsuki gloating. They can show Izuku up against a wall. They can even show a notebook and Izuku's face during the Sludge Villain rematch. But they can't show Izuku reacting with sorrow mixed with almost fury. That can't show Katsuki threatening him with a mere "What?" and the sparks on his palms. They can't show Izuku standing and crying, small and defeated.
"BUT HORI SAID HE WENT TO FAR WITH THAT SCENE!1!" Blah blah blah, doesn't change the fact that it still happened. Doesn't change the fact that it should be addressed, at any capacity. Doesn't change the fact that the story had the balls to recall middle school but couldn't bring itself to remember the one thing that could get its audience raising eyebrows.
But that's alright, it gave you the notebook; clearly it's done enough.
And maybe in another timeline, I could have let my jaw drop when Katsuki was hit and the chapter title was revealed. "Katsuki Bakugo: Rising" It would have been pretty damn powerful too.
...but with all the previous crap the narrative has pulled, it feels like more shoehorning. It feels like more Erasehead stepping in and shaming the audience. It feels like more All Might letting Katsuki in because he's not completely familiar with the finer details. It feels like more people. In narrative parroting that Katsuki changed when he does the bare minimum, as a hero or as a person. I can't treat this development legitimately, because so many other "legitimate" developments pulled a "psyche!" and headed out.
So, I'm done. I'm done with Katsuki, done with hoping his development will be done in a somewhat satisfying manner. Done with people telling me "it's actually good though!" like I'm blind and deaf or something, when I have enough brain cells to formulate my own opinions, and we both have enough brain cells to leave each other alone if we don't agree. Maybe when the series ends and we can all look at this in hindsight, and Katsuki has either found a way to redeem himself, or remain deplorable, I might talk about it then. But for now. I'm drawing the line. I might talk about what we've gotten up to this point, but everything past 285 I'm taking with a grain of salt. 'Cause I'm sick of hoping for something that obviously won't come through, and it's better for me and everyone involved if I just pack up and move on. BNHA isn't just Katsuki's story after all.
And if you made it to the end of all thisā¦ I hope you'll either respect my opinion, or respect my thought process. That's all I can ask.

List of things about Bakugo and his mother I guess (and some about Todoroki his father, Izuocha.) But what do you think about the list?
1. The thing I hate is how everyone is focused on Bakugou's mental health but barley focused on Deku's..... for example if All might died then people would still pay attention to Bakugou's mental health even though it affect Deku's mental health wayyyyy worse.
2. There were plenty of times when Midoriya has been through way more stuff then Bakugou and people still likes to focus him instead.
3. Bakugou needs to say sorry
4. Bakugou's mother is NOT abusive Bakustans they are trying to excuse his behavior, Bakugou's mother personality is not as bad as people think it is .
5. Bakugou had a weak excuse to bully Deku.
6. Endeavors arc is better because he even so he still had some consequences to his actions but it doesn't mean that I like him, his arc should've been even more better if he strengthened the relationship with Todoroki and spend time with children that he neglected such as Natsu and Fuyumi and say sorry to his Children in general especially Todoroki's mom
7. Some Bakustans need to calm down
8. There are some good Bakustans and there are some bad: usually it's to the point when they have to say sorry for other Toxic Bakustans behavior but toxic Bakustans go Waaaaaaay out in there way to criticize people or Deku saying that " well if Deku would not follow him all the time he wouldn't be Bullied" WHICH is wrong the only reason why he got bullied is because he was quirkless. I want some Justice for Deku
9. Bakugou is lucky that Deku never holded any grudges towards him.
10. Bakugous quirk is NOT that interesting
11. Todoroki should've won the sports festival he had way more experience Todoroki started to train when he was a child.
12. Bakugous mom acts like Tsundere instead of abusive mom she treats him more like a annoying brother
13. I honestly feel like Izuocha is going to be a forced canon ship Aoyama would be better as a love interest (I am sorry this ship if you don't like and support it at all)
I have but I don't think you want any more.
Ok here we go!
You are so right! There is a huge focus on Bakugouās mental health and how everything has affected him but people tend to ignore that Izuku has gone through many of the same things (minus being kidnapped). I donāt understand why people ignore Izukuās mental health when not only is the main character but heās also had a worse round of it? Especially since Bakugou is part of the reason that Izukuās mental health is so bad.Ā
Yea youāre so right. So many people talk about how being kidnapped is this horrible thing (and it is) however thatās really the only thing really (besides the sludge villain) that is bad that happened to Bakugou. There are so many things that happened to Izuku that are so much worse.Ā
SAY IT AGAIN FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK!! BAKUGOU NEEDS TO SAY SORRY! But more than that he needs to actually mean his apology and show that heās actually changed (which thus far if heās changed itās very minimal at best).
We really only see that one scene where Bakugouās mom smacks him upside the head so itās hard to judge from there. Personally I do agree that she is most likely not abusive because the way that scene was played it was supposed to be a gag. On a side note, interesting that many bakustans tout that as the reason why his mom is so abusive yet when Bakugou does things 10 times worse to Izuku they completely ignore it or say that itās just a gag š
There is no reason for Bakugou to have ever bullied Izuku. There is no reason for bullying. I donāt care if he thought that Izuku was looking down on him, that is not how you treat other people. I donāt care what anyone says. There. Is. Never. A. Reason. For. Bullying.Ā
I do like the part of Endeavorās arc currently with Dabi/Touya revealing the truth to the world and I do really hope that there are some really good consequences for Endeavor as a result of this. I just wish that it couldāve been framed differently. We get Endeavorās point of view where heās likeĀ āoh Iām sad my family is torn apart :(ā and I feel like Natsuās reactions are framed as bad (at least thatās what I got from the context) when I feel like they are legit and should be respected. I think that like Bakugou until Endeavor truly has real consequences (possibly losing his spot amongst other things) and he shows he truly changes I wonāt be truly content with the arc but again thatās just me.Ā
Oh god yes! Some bakustans really do need to take a chill pill
Definitely!! There are some good fans across the board regardless of the characters they do or donāt like and on the flip side there are some bad fans cross the board too. Unfortunately, we see a lot of the toxic bakustans because they are the vocal minority that we see. The toxic stans definitely need to stop blaming Izuku for trying to be kind and friendly to Bakugou. It definitely shows their mindset that they view someone being a good person as bad.... JUSTICE FOR IZUKU 2KFOREVER
For sure! Bakugou is lucky that Izuku for the most part doesnāt hold a grudge and views him as one of his closest friends.Ā
Honestly? Youāre right. I donāt really think Bakugouās quirk is all that cool. Like congrats you can make explosions? But we have Tokoyami that has a living shadow inside him? Or Uraraka and her antigravity quirk? Or Momo and her ability TO FUCKING CREATE SHIT OUT OF HER BODY?!?!?!
I completely agree! Shouto shouldāve won. Not only would it have been much more satisfying, but it would alsoāve been really good for Bakugouās character development.Ā
Bakugouās mom does act a bit tsundere. Iāve seen it with many parents. Discipline is difficult especially in that situation so really itās just telling him to stop being a prick. Honestly considering how awful Bakugou is to everyone including his parents, itās a surprise that his parents are actually pretty decent. Bakugou reminds me of that teenage boy that doesnāt get what he wants and threatens his parents even if theyāre just being strict and telling him to be respectful or something.
Ugh!! I think so too unfortunately. Izuocha is a great platonic ship but it really does feel shoehorned in. Itās likeĀ āOh sheās the first girl heās ever talked to so obviously theyāre in love.ā Like there are so many other characters that could work much better. If Iām being honest I do like tododeku the most because that was the first ship that I saw going into the fandom and the ship that actually got me interested in BNHA. But I can totally see Aoyama and Izuku. That would actually be really cute! Especially with how Aoyama checks on Izuku and tries to give him cheese and talk to him about his quirk. (please donāt apologize for liking ships) (also I may have to check out Aoyama and Izuku whatever their ship name is because the multishipper in me might be coming out lol thanks)
I am always down for more stuff!! Please feel free to talk to me on or off anon about whatever you want š

A/N:Ā Gender neutral reader and [H/N] stands for [Hero Name].Ā Aged-up AU and everyone is already a Pro-Hero. Kinda SMAU?Ā
Disclaimer: I recently became aware that the wordĀ āsimpā has been appropriated from AAVE. As someone who is not from the black community, I genuinely apologize and I donāt have an excuse for my ignorance. I am removing it from these hcs! I consider myself an ally (but I clearly have a lot of work to do) and it is my own fault for not educating myself, which I hope to do more of in the future.
I also have to give credit where creditās due I love @myherowritingsāĀ ās SMAUs and was inspired to write this from their works so please check them out if youāre reading this!Ā Ā
Izuku Midoriya:Ā

Of course itās edited perfectly with all of the clips synced up perfectly?? Itās a byproduct from his All Might days. Heās still sure to respond to every person who gives him constructive criticism on how to improve his edits.Ā
Unintentionally becomes a meme?? Becomes known as the fanboy to end all fanboys. Like this guy is EVERYWHERE. Heās in the comments of every [H/N] funny moments and [H/N] battles but every fight is poorly edited to the sound of vines and every official interview posted by official YT channels.Ā
Stream Fine LineĀ @randomaccount360 The wildest thing about Twitter is that one [H/N] stan account that comes running whenever you mention their name.Ā

[H/N] > Deku >:(Ā @[H/N]might345Ā It has recently come to my attention that people online have been saying that Deku is a better hero than [H/N] and I am here to say that is not the case. Not only is pitting two heroes against each other extremely toxic but [H/N] has shown time and time again that they are the more successful Hero. [1/24]Ā
Show this threadĀ
He exposes himself by being tagged in thoseĀ āGet to know them betterā trends and it wasnāt like he was ever hiding the fact that he ran the stan account so he has no problem doing it. Heās so casual with posting a selfie of himself and saying his name and likes and dislikes but the people who tagged him just thought that he was just a regular fan?? Not Pro-Hero Deku??Ā
#WTFDeku is trending for a whole day in Japan.Ā
It answers a lot of questions but opens up more.Ā
Everyone legit thought that @[H/N]might345 was just a rich kid with a lot of free time this whole time. But no?? It was Number One Hero Deku?? Does he make the edits when heās fighting villains or something asdfgĀ
It makes him so happy though!! You guys would be chilling and his phone dings from notifications and heās turning to you so happily like, āLook, [Name]! Another popular fan account retweeted my compilation of you! I canāt believe they noticed me!ā Asdf i love this boy.Ā
Shoto Todoroki:Ā
LOOK even before you two debuted as Pro-Heroes he was your number one stan buying all the merch, watching all of the interviews.Ā
Interacts with other fans occasionally. 5K followers. Verified by Twitter for some reason. Has a generic name like @[Name]snumberone and thinks that itās polite to always end his posts with a simple :)Ā
Heās told you about his side account before, but you know that he has one dedicated to Endeavor hate, so you always think that heās referring to that one.Ā
Horny on main for some reason?? People think that heās socially inept and doesnāt really understand a lot of jargon or slang, but thanks to Kaminari and all of the other stans heās studied up because he thinks thatās how youāre supposed to talk on the internet.Ā
Like someone will post a pic of you holding something between your thighs like a water bottle or your phone or wallet while you tie your hair up or sign something for a fan and heāll be likeĀ āgoD i wish that was me.āĀ
itās photosynthesUS @queenking[H/N]Ā Can you believe that there are people out there that donāt think about [H/N]ās thighs at least once a day?? coughcough anyWAY on an unrelated topic hereās several pictures of those beautiful legs http://bit.ly/pH6KeOjpKeI
[H/N]ās biggest fan @[Name]snumberone replying to @queenking[H/N]Ā I can die happy if those legs suffocated meĀ
[H/n]ās biggest fanĀ @[Name]snumberoneĀ Another fan messaged me saying that they liked my account :) thank you. I love [H/N] more than anything.Ā
[H/N]ās biggest fanĀ @[Name]snumberone Someone messaged me this from a site called Archive of Our Own? They said since I like [H/N] so much I would like this. Itās pretty enjoyable :) although kind of OOC? (is that right?)Ā
[H/N]ās biggest fan @[Name]snumberone I thought I would try my own hand at [H/N] fanfiction since it was so fun to read I binged the entire tag last night :) But please be warned that itās not for underage readers.Ā
Would try to fight the haters in the most passive-aggressive and aggressive-aggressive way possible. He had no problem with trying to square up against the chief of police and heās incredibly stubborn. Part 2 of the response to this ask:
Part 1 was about where I think Getenās story is going, and if I think itās likely that Dabi will kill him; it dealt mainly with how those characters are set up in canon. Part 2 is far more about the fandom, and the assumptions people make that lead them to theories like the one above--specifically, the assumption that the League was always planning on bailing on the PLF. Hit the jump below with me and I'll go over why I think the common arguments for that are misguided at best, and willfully misreading the text at worst.
WARNING: Contains some generalizations about parts of the fandom that I have mostly taken steps to avoid seeing on my dash, so some of my characterizations may be out of date. Iāve tried to desalinate this post as much as possible, but as an unapologetic fan of the MLA and of Spinner (who I do not bring up incidentally), this is a topic I feel particularly strongly about. Apologies, but I Have Seen Things.
DISCLAIMER: I like Geten better than Dabi. I don't think he's better developed; I don't think he's a better character--I just like him better. This is largely down to the fact that I find the MLA fascinating from a worldbuilding perspective and its members compelling personally, whereas Iām less interested in Dabi personally than I am the Todoroki Drama on the whole, and have been tired of Fanon Dabi for approximately 83 years. Iāll also be the first to admit that my take on Dabi is pretty mercenary--hardly the irredeemable psychopath the Hero Stans on Twitter see, but nothing close to Secretly Soft Big Brother Touya, either. If thatās not your bag, you may want to skip this one.
So, here's a bullet point list of the reasons I have personally seen on why the League was always planning to turn on the MLA:
Dabi and Toga mention "getting started early," and Shigaraki mentions a plan, suggesting that the League had a plan in place independent of the one they arranged as the PLF.
Shigaraki says he won't forgive the Liberation Army for messing with peoples' feelings, so he would never really mean it when he forges an alliance with them.
The MLA is quirk supremacist, like Endeavor, so Dabi would never work with them.
Dabi is just using Skeptic against Skeptic's will; itās not a willing partnership.
Mr. Compress rejects the PLF moniker for Shigaraki, ergo Mr. Compress didnāt genuinely associate Shigaraki and the League with the PLF.
Toga hated Curious, so she wouldn't want to work with the MLA either.
Twice would never forgive them for what they did to Giran.
[Error: argument about Spinner's opinion on the PLF not found.]
So, let's go over those, shall we? Note that a lot of what I'm going to lay out below isn't conclusive. What I want to establish is simply that the canonical evidence isn't conclusive, certainly not as much so as the people who support this view espouse.
|| Dabi and Toga mention "getting started early," and Shigaraki mentions a plan, suggesting that the League had a plan in place independent of the one they arranged as the PLF.
In responses to my recent Overhaul post, I defended Vizās official translation as an accurate rendering of the dialogue in question. In general, I feel like Caleb Cook is pretty reliable in his translations, if sometimes kind of stiff or dry in localization. However, there are times he makes assumptions about lines--as indeed a translator for a currently-running series will sometimes have to--and sometimes, those assumptions donāt pan out. This is one of those times.
Dabi's line, "Shall we get started early?" is based on an assumption Cook made about a line that doesn't have an actual subject. In the original dialogue--Hayame ni hajimaru ka--there is no āwe,ā not even in the form of some implicit collective in Dabiās grammatical inflection, nor is there a question of "should." All Dabiās doing is musing that the start (again, thereās no subject, and so no indication of the start of what, or the start as initiated by who) is happening early.
Toga's line communicates much the same, save that she does specify that the schedule/plan/arrangement is happening earlier than expected--which is totally true, since her line is in response to Dabi observing that Machia moving must mean Shigaraki's awake, and Shigaraki was supposed to be down for another month.
Shigaraki's line, like Dabi's, lacks a subject to describe what exactly is supposed to start as soon as Shigaraki wakes. He's saying something that would, in a more stilted way, be, "I wake up and then it's the start, right?"
None of these lines suggest that the characters are necessarily talking about any plan other than the one the PLF laid out. Yes, it looks somewhat damning that Shigaraki's first action (after getting himself a cape, anyway) is to have Machia bring him the League, but heck, maybe that was always the plan. Just because Shigaraki wants to rejoin his comrades doesn't mean the rest of the PLF didn't already have machinations that they were supposed to set into motion the moment Machia left. After all, the plan as Hawks understood it did involve simultaneous attacks on major cities--maybe the League was going to be spearheading one of those attacks. Further, Shigaraki knew something was wrong from the moment he regained consciousness, and we donāt know how that knowledge affected the call he made. Hell, maybe the original plan was for the League to be brought to meet him somewhere in a chartered limo; we donāt know.
It's telling that this idea that the League had a Secret Plan to screw over the MLA rarely seems to account for Mr. Compress and Spinner being confused over the suddenness of events. The response to questions about this seems to be that the "villain trio" knew about it, so the ignorance of the rest of the League can just be handwaved--the important members knew, and that's enough. This is ungenerous towards both Twice and Mr. Compress, but I have got particularly little time for Spinner, the narrator of MVA and guy who decided to devote his all to Shigaraki, being disrespected in this fashion. More on that later.
|| Shigaraki says he won't forgive the Liberation Army for messing with peoples' feelings, so he would never really mean it when he forges an alliance with them.
Shigaraki does say he won't forgive the MLA, but consider what he did to the MLA and its leader. He destroyed most of their stronghold, killed scores of them, is directly responsible for Re-Destro losing his legs, and saw that vaunted descendant of Destro about six inches shy of full forehead-on-the-ground dogeza. The League Shigaraki commands killed a great many more of them, including one of their inner circle. He commandeered the Liberation Army, its resources, and its grand cause. I think itās safe to say heās more than responded in kind!
I'm not saying Shigaraki feels for the MLA the same way he does about the League, far from it, but I do think he's practical enough after two hundred chapters of character development not to throw them away out of spite. In Chapter 246, he tells Ujiko explicitly, "When someone offers me something, I take it," and, "I'm done taking the heroes lightly. I'll use everything I've got to obliterate the dregs All Might left behind." From a purely practical standpoint, if he intends to throw everything he has at the heroes, he has no reason to throw the MLA under the bus, and 116,000 reasons to keep them around. I'm altogether sure that, so long as they stood to be useful to his plans, he would have kept them around.
|| The MLA is quirk supremacist, like Endeavor, so Dabi would never work with them. + || Dabi is just using Skeptic against Skeptic's will; itās not a willing partnership.
I hadnāt seen the second point in the wild, but I suppose it must be how the āThe League will betray the MLAā theorists are getting around Dabi and Skepticās clear collaboration and how that collaboration totally scuttles the first point, huh? Hilarious.
Anyway, setting aside the fact that Dabi showed up to the one planning session we were shown when even Geten didnāt, thereās evidence in the canon that Dabi was working with Skeptic since even before the raid. Consider that Dabiās video was filmed at the villa (the wall paneling and the style of the couch both match) and ask yourself where the camera he used came from. Once the filming was complete, where was the video stored such that Skeptic could access it from his laptop? If Dabiād had it on an SD card and Skeptic was seeing it for the first time, why didnāt Spinner, Compress and Toga watch it alongside him? Surely Skeptic would need to watch it through at least once to know when to splice in the footage of Jinās death for maximum dramatic impact? On that note, by far the most telling piece of evidence is this: if Dabi wasn't already working with Skeptic, then why was he wearing one of Skeptic's body cameras during his confrontation with Hawks?
Further, Skeptic's protest when heās pulled onto Machia isn't that he doesnāt want to be with the League; itās that he doesnāt want to leave Re-Destro behind. Once he's resigned that it's going to happen, though, he's cocky about his talents and complimentary of Dabi's big reveal, even if he is exasperated about the League's antics. It's ambiguous, I admit, but given that Dabi's wearing his cameras, he had to have known Dabi had a reason for them--and given that he is both abrasive and mouthy, I canāt imagine he wouldnāt have demanded to know what that reason was.
Hell, Dabi even thanks Skeptic for his editing work, which is more direct positive approval than he's ever shown anyone in the League (give or take the high-five with Twice, which, genuine or not, he would have known he was doing on camera). That much-vaunted panel of Spinner telling Toga to come back to the League? Dabi's grinning, which in isolation you could read as a certain rueful affection, but with the full context of the chapter, it becomes apparent that Dabi is grinning at Skeptic's laptop, seconds after telling Skeptic to "hurry up." Skeptic is, at that moment, probably gearing up the video to project nationwide, and Dabiās more focused on that than he is Togaās crisis, even when Compress directly appeals to him for aid. He tells Compress he doesnāt care, the same way he told Hawks he doesn't give a damn about the League.
Let me be clear here: I'm inclined to take Dabi at his word. I think Dabi hangs around the League because, for all that he says one man's conviction can shake the world, he also knows his own limits, and the League offers safety in numbers and an avenue to pursue his revenge. Maybe he finds them acceptable enough company, maybe he even does like them a bit despite himself, but I think any affection he might have for them is entirely incidental to his views on their usefulness. In the same way, while he's willing to bail on the MLA when the heroes attack, I don't think it was his plan to do so, especially not given his apparent immediate regard for Skeptic, as seen in the deleted scene here. Sure, he dislikes Geten, but ultimately, Geten is a stupid kid too tied up in his care for Re-Destro--who's now worshipping the ground Shigaraki walks on--to really be getting in Dabi's way.
Maybe if the MLA really were as quirk supremacist as Geten makes them out to be, Dabi would be actively looking for a way to see āem burn, but as Iāve said countless times before, Geten is not a reliable narrator vis a vis the MLA's doctrine. Now, obviously I don't expect Dabi to give them an unearned benefit of the doubt,(1) not after what he heard Geten say, but if Dabi has been working with Skeptic, it doesn't take a genius to realize that while Anthropomorph is a perfectly good quirk, it is categorically not what primarily defines Skepticās "worth" in the MLA societal microcosm.
Nothing that Skeptic does reflects the way Geten talks about "elevating one's ability" or "sheer strength" in the way that HeroAca fandom tends to understand as referring to flashy and offensive quirks. And yet, Skeptic is a ranked advisor warranting an introductory panel with RD's inner circle and Geten is not. Perhaps, just perhaps, this might have led Dabi to reevaluating his initial assessment just slightly?
|| Mr. Compress rejects the PLF moniker for Shigaraki, ergo Mr. Compress didnāt genuinely associate Shigaraki and the League with the PLF.
So, this one's pretty wild, because, in the same chapter that had people crowing about Mr. Compress's dialogue, Mr. Compress's actions show the exact opposite of the conclusion this theory would demand. Specifically, if it was always the League's plan to ditch the MLA, Mr. Compress would have darted right past Skeptic, ignoring the man's cries for help. He doesn't--he picks Skeptic up on the way past and (at least in the volume corrections) deposits him safe with Dabi in Spinner's scarf. Of course, Skeptic still stands to be useful, but if one acknowledges that Skeptic's usefulness is reason enough not to abandon him, then what exactly is the argument for leaving 116,000 perfectly useful warm bodies behind?
But let's set aside Compress rescuing Skeptic and focus on the actual point, because that point in itself is still flawed. Mr. Compress's thoughts on the PLF in the specific talk bubble in question are somewhat ambiguous. It's another case of the Viz translation making a couple of assumptions that are just that--assumptions.
Compress's words in the Japanese are as follows:
ChÅjÅ KaihÅ Sensen.ā¦ Viran rengo no Shigaraki Tomura gaā¦
Viz then renders the line like so:
The Paranormal Liberation Front'sā¦ No, the League of Villain's Shigarakiā¦
Note that in the Japanese, the possessive no is only included once, to indicate Shigaraki's association with the League. Further, the original doesn't indicate any negation in Compress's thoughts. Yes, he could be rejecting the PLF association for Shigaraki, but he could as easily be narrowing his scope to Shigaraki as the figure he represents to the League, rather than the figure he represents to the PLF--not rejecting wholesale, but rather becoming more specific. Compress might also be thinking first of the PLF as a general organization, then narrowing down to Shigaraki specifically.
Rather than reading this line as an indication that Compress regards the PLF as temporary, I was heartened by the fact that Compress thought about the PLF at all! If the League really had been planning to discard them this entire time, then there's no reason for Compress to have ever taken the Front seriously enough to have thought about them in that moment of crisis. You can carry this back further, too. In Chapter 258, when Twice is asking Hawks for help, he says that Spinner and Compress have been in meetings for days. Coupled with Compress's first thought about the entity that will carry out Harima's desired reformation being the Liberation Front (or possibly "the Liberation Front's Shigaraki"), this indicates to me that Compress was taking it seriously, not just gorging himself on sushi on the MLA's dime.
Indeed, back in Ujiko's lab, when it was just Shigaraki talking about his backstory and his dreams of destruction, Compress looks the opposite of impressed; we know from his narration in 294 that he liked the League because they didn't place any importance on one anotherās pasts. Yet, at some point, his view shifted to believing that fulfilling his ancestor's ambition, his bloodlineās duty, really might be back on the table. We as readers don't quite know when that shift happened, but given, again, his initial mental invocation of the PLF, I think we can assume that it's tied to that alliance, those resources. And sure, when the moment of crisis happens and he's really defining who and what Shigaraki is to him, and where his values and priorities lie, it's with the League and Shigaraki as the leader of the League. But that doesn't mean he never had his hopes for the PLF at all, or was partaking in plans to ditch them.
Also too, this is a man who was lamenting the loss of their partnership with Overhaul, a man who personally maimed him, on top of killing a comrade. You're telling me the guy who shrugged off his animosity towards Overhaul would willingly allow the League to plot sabotage against even wealthier collaborators against whom he has even less reason to hold a grudge? Come on, guys.
|| Toga hated Curious, so she wouldn't want to work with the MLA either.
This one's easy: Toga pretty explicitly hated Curious, but she's even more explicit that she likes the MLA because she thinks the world they want to create is wonderful. She says this verbatim at the end of 225, after Curious has spent the entire chapter hounding her with explosions and intrusive questions. What turns her animosity on Curious is not some reveal that the MLA's world would be terrible after all, but Curious calling Toga's "normal" miserable and tragic. Essentially, she doesn't object to the world the MLA wants to bring about; she objects to being turned into a martyr for that world, especially when that martyrdom requires that the things that make Toga happy be characterized as horrific misfortunes.
Toga doesn't like Curious; she kills Curious. And then she comes into a position of leadership, and we don't know a lot about how that position takes her, but she seems delighted to be walking out onto the stage to be announced as such, and she makes active contributions to the discussion of the PLF's plans in Chapter 245. We are, again, given no indication that her lethal response to Curious means that she's planning to ditch the MLA on the whole.
Incidentally, Curious asserts what she does about Toga only in the context of the world as it stands. The world's rejection of Toga's normal, and the extremes that rejection drove Toga to, are what Curious considers tragic and miserable, not Toga's fascination with blood in and of itself. She clearly believes that, in the world the MLA envisions, Toga's life would not be so miserable because she would never have been oppressed to the degree that she snapped. And frankly, Curious isn't wrong. The only reason she is a villain in that scene is that she's willing to murder Toga to project that tragedy to the world. If she'd been willing to sit down and have a civil interview with Toga to print it in a relevant magazine, she would have been fine.
|| Twice would never forgive them for what they did to Giran.
You know, this is a totally fair point. It is, however, somewhat complicated by the fact that Giran himself never left the PLF. Now, thereās almost certainly something to be said about Giranās whole information broker shtick being terminally compromised by his capture, his maiming, his client list being hacked, etc. He had a bunch of identifying items strewn all over the country that were covered in the national news, items that people who associated with him closely certainly would have recognized. Maybe heās laying low for a while?
I donāt know why Giran was still around by the time of the raid. I can theorize about his pragmatism or what have you, but the canon really doesnāt give us anything to go on. Still, if he really hated the MLA all that much, as he would be totally justified in doing, itās pretty bizarre that Horikoshi showed him twice in PLF crowd scenes post-Deika looking nothing worse than kind of confused and uneasy. Heck, youād think he would at least have merited a better seat in the crowd for the big merger announcement.
Giran aside, the fact that Twice never does hit it off with anyone in his regiment is, I think, telling. If thereās anyone in the League that intentionally kept himself at a distance from the MLA because of hard feelings, itās likely Twice. After all, if he had befriended anyone, he presumably wouldnāt have needed to go to Hawks for tutoring almost an entire month after Deika. That said, the fact that Twice does go running to Hawks for tutoring shows that heās at least doing his best to act in accordance with what he thinks Shigaraki and the rest want. That doesnāt preclude the League having a secret plan that heās either in on and playing along with, or hasnāt been told about because he might not be able to stop himself from vocalizing about it. Still, while absence of evidence is not evidence of absence, obviously absence of evidence is not evidence of presence. So, lacking any sign that the rest of the League is planning treachery, Iām not inclined to assume Twiceās lack of forgiveness is indicative of anything other than his own feelings.
|| [Error: argument about Spinner's opinion on the PLF not found.]
:: INCOMING SALT WARNING :: INCOMING SALT WARNING ::
This is the one that really gets to me. I have never seen an argument that the League is planning to betray the PLF that convincingly explains the fact that Spinner, to all available evidence, threw himself wholeheartedly into trying to make the PLF succeed. To be more precise, I have seen one explanation, and that explanation is that the plan to ditch the MLA was a secret that only Shigaraki, Dabi and sometimes Toga knew about, and to reiterate, that is bullshit.
In my experience, this is an explanation proposed by people who care about Spinner only insofar as he can be a Soft Gaymer Boyfriend or score them rhetorical points, but have little to no interest in his ongoing--and, indeed, increasing--importance to the League generally and Shigarakiās arc specifically. The dude who talked about how Twiceās home was the League, who got through to Toga while still respecting her choice when no one else could, the guy who recognized the hollowness within Shigaraki but also bonded with him over video games, the man who Mr. Compress said was Shigarakiās most devoted follower(2)--this man did not do all of that for people in this fandom to say, āOh, well, the others probably just kept it a secret from him because they thought heād be bad at lying.ā
Really? āBad at lying?ā And thatās an adequate justification, is it, for Shigaraki letting Spinner toil for months under false pretenses? For lying to the man who adores him the most? Of course it isnāt, but the people who theorize this donāt really care about Spinnerās adoration for Shigaraki, or the fact that Shigaraki rewarding Spinnerās feelings by allowing him to dedicate himself unstintingly to something Shigaraki was planning to discard from the beginning would be a blatant abuse of Spinnerās trust.
I have never seen anyone try to argue that Spinner was in on a plan to betray the MLA all along. Thatās because itās patently obvious that Spinner--forthright, direct Spinner, who named the merged organization with Re-Destro, spends all his time in meetings, has a direct exchange with Re-Destro about the state of their plans, and is probably the reason RD started wearing polka dots--went all-in on the PLF. But for the people who propose the āthe League was always going to bailā theory, Spinner and his labors are an afterthought.
Spinner is not an afterthought. Where Mr. Compress has been captured, Toga could hypothetically be peeled away from the League via Uraraka, and Dabi almost certainly will be peeled away via the Todoroki plot, Spinnerās driving motivation at this point is Shigaraki himself. He connected to Shigarakiās nihilism, his hatred, but also his humanity--the humanity in Shigaraki Tomura, not in Shimura Tenko. His empathy didnāt spring from contrived psychic glimpses of crying 5-year-olds, but from long months of observation, doubt, and gradually deepening wonder. Heās the only person currently with Shigaraki that I can see caring enough about Shigarakiās welfare that he might sacrifice his own goals and desires to help Deku save him.
Spinner is not an afterthought, and I refuse to build or entertain theories that treat him that way. So as to his opinions on the MLA? Despite having his own reasons to be leery of them based on how shabbily Trumpet treated him, he was obviously trying to make the Paranormal Liberation Front succeed, which means he must have believed that Shigaraki wanted it to succeed. Therefore, unless youāre prepared to assert that Shigaraki (and everyone else who was in on it!) was cruel enough to lie to Spinner about something he was devoting so much time and energy to, the inescapable conclusion is that Shigaraki also wanted the Front to succeed.
(Note: After letting a friend pre-read this, I have been informed that there is, in fact, one explanation offered for Spinner knowing the League was going to abandon the PLF but working his ass off on the venture anyway, and that explanation is, āSomething something wants to prove himself because low self-esteem.ā This is so ridiculous I canāt even bring myself to edit this post accordingly. Low self-esteem! Because nothing would alleviate Spinner's low self-esteem like toiling for months over something that holds no worth to the people he actually cares about, right? Right?? Bah. Humbug!)
And but so, to wrap all that up: I fundamentally disagree that the League viewed the Paranormal Liberation Front as a temporary arrangement, at least to the extent that they were actively planning to betray their newfound--new won--allies. The fact that I don't think the League intended to discard the MLA out of hand does, thus, influence my opinion that, whatever Geten's fate will be, I'm pretty sure it's not going to be, "He gets murdered in a way that resembles nothing so much as a sick revenge fantasy dozens of chapters after the last point when such a death would have been remotely tonally appropriate."
Thanks for the ask, anon! Sorry about-- *waves at all of this*

(1) Not that Mr. āBurns Random Delinquents Alive For Not Measuring Up To His Standards For Villainyā has any moral standing to criticize others for how they determine the value of peoplesā lives, mind.
(2) Other translations for the verb in Mr. Compressās Japanese line of, āYou are the one who ____s Shigaraki the most,ā include yearn for, long for, pine for, miss, love dearly, adore, idolize, and revere. āMost devoted followerā is accurate enough, but considerably less homo than some of the things we could have gotten there.

I'm not sure if you've seen some panels from chapter 311 so if not, feel free to ignore this however I'd like to say something
It brings me joy how people aren't forgiving endeavor for what he did to dabi and the rest of his family
He may be number 1 hero but it doesn't excuse his actions
And also midoriya almost got assassinated ššš¾ (that lady who shot at him looks really pretty-omg Kile. No! Stop being gay for ONE second)
-Sir Kile
i just saw this im so sorry :((
i have seen the leaks! but honestly lately iāve lost the hype for bnha. i mean they /are/ saying endeavor is guilty but... what has he truly lost. shouto is supporting him. hawks and best jeanist are supporting him as well. dabi speaking on tv did almost /nothing/ and it pisses me off because heās allĀ āthat (the fact that itās my fault) is why iām doing thisā but... just no. sorry i just donāt care about endeavorās redemption arc, iām sick and tired of parents redemption arcs in media, can we just have a story of a child not forgiving their parents and nobody questioning it ;-;
also my favourite character is hawks and... iām NOT saying i WANTED him to suffer but i did want him to experience a long lasting effect due to dabiās fight with him. okay he lost his wings but he said theyāre going to grow back and... no nothing happened? besides some scars? he apologized and thatās the end. i think it would have been so much better, character-wise that he lost his wings /forever/ and the commission dropped him off, so we could see him struggling with theĀ āwho i am nowā dilemma. and the fact the commission never cared about takami keigo, they just cared about the hero hawks. but nope, guess hawks is working with endeavor and best jeanist and like... baby what are you doing, running around?Ā ššš
that villain was GORGEOUS omg i love her already. midoriya... i canāt truly care about him. i hated that they forced todoroki to forgive endeavor EVEN AFTER FINDING OUT ABOUT TOUYA. natsuo omg he did too and they were like okay nvm, weāre not thinking about it rn............ you need to take care of him DUDE??????? I JUST
yeah anyway stan jujutsu kaisen
