Kinda started rereading Dressrosa and... Although I always chalked up the similarities between Crocodile's plan to take over Alabasta and how Doflamingo took over Dressrosa as nothing but Oda reusing similar plot elements but in a slightly different way (just to show us what could've become of Alabasta had Croc gotten away with his schemes, what Luffy helped prevent from happening to begin with)...

Robin's reaction to hearing the story of Dressrosa and HOW Doflamingo took over the country, that simple little "...!!", actually does kind of speak volumes

Like if you wanted canonical evidence to Crocodile having been "inspired" by Doflamingo, then yeah, Robin would be The Person who would pick up on that, she'd be the person who'd be like "hey, that story sounds awfully familiar to what Crocodile did", since he was her boss

Do want to note that, timeline-wise, Doflamingo only took over Dressrosa 10 years ago, where as Crocodile had been Scheming and establishing his position as the Hero of Alabasta for 16 years. Like Croc's intent to obtain Pluton and create his military nation utopia absolutely pre-dates Doffy's takeover, so that wasn't and can't have been inspired by Doflamingo at all. It's more just the plan and method Crocodile ended up going with (framing the king (through a bloodbath) and putting the country in a position without a ruler where he could just yoink it for himself with ease) where the similarity becomes more obvious. But it is also kind of where it ends. Doflamingo wanted Dressrosa because he felt like he was entitled to the island (as his family had been its original rulers and he was a Tenryuubito), and was using the island for his own gains (Smile manufacturing etc, for his dealings with Kaidou), all while having a great distain and hatred of the world and how he had been "wronged" (=Tenryuubito rights revoked). Meanwhile... yeah, Crocodile wanted to create a "utopia", only targetting Alabasta because he believed Pluton was there and because Pluton would be needed for his ideal military nation. That minor difference and Crocodile's clear and great distain and hatred of Doflamingo combined...

Yeah, I dunno, this is just interesting to me. God I need Robin and Crocodile to have a lil reunion chat

got my grades back for my courses last semester and most of it was to be expected, mostly A's, maybe an A-, etc. but i honestly can't get over the fact that my independent study (the buddy cole documentary) was for some reason given a B. like sure getting a B isn't bad per se, I usually get at least one B every semester and i honestly don't really care about what my exact gpa is as long as i can graduate, but come on. this school put me through months of psychological torment over this project and didn't even have the nerve to give me a B+??? i'm still coping with the self-doubt they forced on me and this bullshit is not helping!!

As much fun as I'm having doing my alternative run of DA2, one thing I really miss about my mage Hawke is his friendship with Merrill.

Those two are best friends and he's 100% supportive in her goals toward the eluvian. Ed has the humorous/charming personality, too, which bounces off super well with Merrill. He doesn't think any less of her for her usage of blood magic; if anything he's impressed by her level of strength and willpower. He's so ready to defend her from the other companions and the clan, and he's absolutely out here attempting to matchmake her and Carver....at least he is in my heart because the game won't let me, it's fine, I'm not bitter about it or anything-

But then my warrior Hawke? She has the diplomatic personality with quite a bit of direct/aggressive thrown in there and she ends up having the same attitude as that one party banter Aveline and Merrill have: "Merrill, you're clearly talented and meant for great things, but you're stupid," and that's so difficult for me to lean into. I'm trying to play Aris differently so she ends up being so condescending to Merrill, like she's trying to gently tell her to give up on the eluvian but it doesn't come off well.

Also if Carver was around, Aris would be the opposite of Ed, she'd look at the suggestion of her brother and Merrill getting together and be like, "No :) I don't think so :) I like Merrill, she's my friend :) but she's not right for Carver."

But I guess it makes sense; if you told him that Bethany would giggle and kick her feet and twirl her hair around Sebastian, Ed would've thrown him in the ocean as a warning. Meanwhile, Aris is like, "A handsome prince that could take my sister away from all of this? Wonderful, we just need to work on his incorrect views on mages, but that shouldn't be a problem :)"

Anyway I miss playing Hawke as the #1 Merrill stan.

You have to love how Angel was one of the few people who didn't make fun of Buffy's name.

Like, Spike did, Fred did, one demon did (that I'm forgetting which one it was, exactly. But it was wondering if Buffy was short for anything and then she said, "No. Just Buffy."), Doyle called her "Muffy" by accident once, Giles is aghast that the new Slayer's name is Buffy in one of the classic comics, Faith in "Go Ask Malice: A Slayer's Diary" misunderstands and at first thinks Buffy's name is "Summers" (and digs it) and is a bit disappointed to find out that it's "Buffy" instead.

But we never see Angel hating on Buffy's name.

it’s been a while but!! i’ve been thinking abt snow devil aki again… consider after coming back as a devil he’s of course lost most if not all of his memories but when he sees you and denji he lights up. and when the public safety official monitoring him asks who you are, he responds with total confidence, “That’s my wife.” and for denji “My brother”….. extra points if you weren’t even together before he died but you were close friends who pined terribly for another….. extra extra points of snow devil aki calls denji ‘Taiyo’ - 🍊

gosh... him having a soft spot for you but especially for denji. imagine how denji would feel seeing him after what happened, and aki just giving him a smile and a hug, completely unaware of everything that happened, but knowing denji meant a lot to him. I think... I will combust, actually

when snow devil aki reincarnates his memories are still a bit mixed up, but he's so in tune with the winter he remembers what happened on the chilly day his family disappeared clearly. he's always seen his little brother in denji, and it's even more so now. denji just doesn't have it in his heart to correct him

I'm trying to keep an open mind reading a character study where Karamatsu has NPD but ngl, I'm struggling with it because lack of empathy is key to diagnosing someone as a narcissist and like... we have ample evidence that Karamatsu is very empathetic?

Him being emotionally attuned to his siblings is literally the whole plot of the second movie?
