YYYEAAAHHHHHH For my first post here I decided to upload my first EVA Moms mini comic!! I made this in like idk- 2020?? I forgot lol but!!! I saw some EVA art in almost human size with no armor originating from the EVA Geek forum in 2010s or something and they inspired me so much I had to make my own version!!

Alright so they're not exactly the mom, more like a guardian or older sibling to the kids but mom as a word is shorter so yeah. Basically I'm so done with the EVA pilots being depressed and shi so why not make them live a silly life with their EVAs??

Here we have EVA-01 as the proud, overprotective mom bcs yo did you count how many times they went berserk just to protect Shinji?? Yeah they love their son to the core 😩👌Oh, and here's 02 being the soft, gentle mom for their loud German kid. From what I saw in the anime, they almost never went berserk, yeah? It only went full killer mode in EoE, so I made a hc that 02, despite being the most advanced EVA there is, behaves nicely and only kicks ass when needed 👌👌

I'm gonna post more HCs as I go but here's these for now!! I will upload more of this so uhh- Lesgaur??

What Gundams are you building?

ok so technically i LIED i'm actually building Eva Unit 02, not necessarily a gundam lol

i'm very new to model kits (the only other kit i've done is the Tanjiro Demon Slayer one that's in like every Target lol), but this has been very fun so far! i need to get some better sanding materials though, the little plastic bits are bothering me. also i need to build her other leg and arms but tbh this is still pretty show accurate since Unit 02 gets destroyed like every other episode LMAO

but yea i got this guy as a little gift for myself on valentine's day :] i love how the Evas are designed and actually building one is crazy cool, i'm so impressed as to how poseable it is and it's fascinating to see how everything fits together. i definitely want to build Unit 01 after this but these things are. expensive 💀

FLAME TOY’S Transformers Furai 20: Windblade Review.

So being a robot lover at heart I have a soft spot for Transformers. I grew up with the unicron trilogy and Animated but fell off as the Bay films came out. But like a lot of people Transformers One reawoke a spark for the series that I have not felt in ages. So given I love gunpla and plamo I looked to see what options were open to me. Lucky for me they had one of my favorites, Windblade. I always had a soft spot for her ever since I watched Vangelus review her first toy ten years ago.  Sadly this girl got some problems. Mainly when building her the plastic tolerances were all over the place. Sometimes I often had to use a scary amount of force to get pieces to connect. I often fearedI was about to break something. Secondly this girl also has a bit of that Plastic-Hand-Grenade-Syndrome. A part of her arm launched across my room and I spent 40 minutes looking for the damn thing. This kit really needs you to glue a lot of the little bits down. She also does not come with a lot. Just two sets of hands and two swords which is a bit of a bummer.

But even with her issues I can't help but love the look of this kit. Comparing her to the other Flame Toys kits does give her a bit of that mmo sexual dimorphism. So the guys are all bulky brickhouse and the girls are tiny slim twigs.

Which I don't mind here, (along as they give a Starscream kit the sluttyest waist possible to balance it out).

Her poseability is pretty solid too. Nothing too insane but nothing overly restrictive.

She does have a massive ass, which as a feminist I question the need for…But as a lesbian.. I. Um.. Women pretty…

And Sure her heels are a bit weird and make it heard to stand... but is cute.

Since you watched Evangelion, what's your opinion on Yui Ikari? Like yeah, the show and movies showed her as kind and benevolent in flashbacks and ofc she shows her mama bear instincts when Shinji is in danger. But... the later episodes and movies show that Yui might have ulterior motives when it comes the Evas and Angels. Like maybe Yui has a benevolent mask to hide her insanity...

this was sent a month ago and I didn't remember enough about Eva to articulate my thoughts, but I've actually just rewatched it so now I can answer!

I think Yui is an ultimately benevolent figure, even if her methods weren't always straightforward or even moral. The manga does a really good job of fleshing out her personality and motivations, iirc. My take on her is this:

Some supplementary materials reveal that Yui is the daughter of a high-ranking member of SEELE. She ended up working for them, so I imagine that she must have been aware of the Human Instrumentality Project for many years. Maybe she initially went along with it, but after giving birth to Shinji, she realized how important it is to embrace humanity and life as we know it, even with all its flaws.

She doesn't want humanity to be collected into one consciousness because, as the manga shows, this is a purgatory-like existence. There may be no fighting or death or sadness, but there's also no joy or excitement or actual connections to others. As such, she puts into motion a years-long plan to disrupt Instrumentality.

My impression of Yui is that she is someone who deeply loves humanity and believes we are worth preserving. That's why, at the end of the series, she- inside Eva Unit 01- decides to exile herself into deep space so that she can be an eternal monument to humanity. She alone will be proof that we existed in the vast cosmos, even once the Sun engulfs the Earth in billions of years. As she herself says, it will be a very lonely existence, but she believes it's worth it to carry on humanity's legacy.

This is the kind of anti-nihilism that Evangelion is built on. The universe may not intrinsically have meaning, so it's up to us to make that meaning. Yui's final actions and decision to act as a monument to humanity in the face of a vast, cold, uncaring cosmos also harkens back to the First Ancestral Race, the progenitors of the Seeds of Life (Adam, Lilith, and the rest of their kind). As revealed in supplementary materials, they too were faced with extinction and the eventual loss of their place in the universe, so they decided to fling a light into the future and ensure that other planets in the cosmos would develop life.

I love the differences in Evangelion media, and how they highlight different aspects of everyone, but especially Shinji

Like Manga Shinji represents a much more kinda "normal kid" which is all Shinji wants, he grew up with family, he makes sarcastic comments or faces much more often, and he has kinda reasonable reactions to the weird shit "Misato what the hell did you say?" "Our guy got his ass kicked", and even his piloting reflects it, he doesn't just tremble and trip at the sight of Sachiel, he instead rushes straight towards it, dirececting his anger at the angel, and we see his reason for the EVA going beserk, he called and cried out for BOTH of his parents, and we see the merging of Yui and 01

But anime Shinji kinda represents the Shinji others see, he grew up with teachers but no family, we see his EVA physically protect him when it stops the lights from hitting him, we see him cowering in fear at the sight of sachiel, and when the EVA goes berserk it takes away the focus on Shinji, because all anyone is seeing is the EVA now

Rebuild Shinji represents the Shinji that Gendo sees himself in, this Shinji pulled Rei from her entry plug identically to how his father did, this Shinji willingly initiated the 3rd impact and threw away his literal humanity to save the girl he loved, he was the Shinji who desperately just wanted to see Rei one last time, and was willing to do anything for her, the Shinji everyone grew cold towards and even hated, and of course the Shinji and Gendo who piloted twin Evangelions, weilding the twin spears, each fighting for one person, one (physically) identical person. He was the Shinji who talked to his father.

And Anima Shinji I feel like represents the true Shinji to an extent, or at least what Shinji wishes to an extent. His father, lillith, and the JSSDF battle all just disappeared, Kaji and Toji were both still alive, he saved Asuka, he stopped the impact, he gets to grow up as a semi-normal kid becoming student president, he gets to grow his hair like Kaji (a genuine and present male role model who was there for Shinji, and the man who gifted him the watermelon patch which represented the world for Shinji), the Shinji who Asuka didn't hate, the Shinji that still got to talk to Kaworu, and the Shinji that inspired hope when he piloted. When Shinji pilots his Super-EVA people cheer and stomp along to his heart beat, his mere existence brought people joy, which is what I think Shinji above all else wanted.

They all represent a part of Shinji, "The self has always been composed of two selves - the self which is observed, and the self that observes itself"

“Here love, pass him to me,” he tells her, with his hands out towards her.

She hands their son to him. He takes him and moves him so he’s holding him with one arm, his other wrapping around his wife’s waist to pull her into his side. She leans into him.

“Do you want to go straight home after this?” he whispers to her.

“We should get Henry home before he becomes unsettled,” she says mentioning their baby. The older children were off playing with their cousins.

“While you say goodbye to your mother, I’ll get the other children,” he says.

“Remember that Katie is going with Margaret this afternoon. Her and Eva are having a sleep over tonight,” she reminds him as the service comes to an end.

I'm rewatching Neon Genesis Evangelion while I still have access to a Netflix account, and I first watched it in high school when I was the same age as the pilots and it gave me horrible nightmares

Specifically (spoilers) that whole arc where EVA 01 with the dummy pilot obliterated EVA 03 while Shinji watched and an angel broke into NERV and then EVA 01 went absolutely berserk and ate the angel and then Shinji like disintegrated into primordial goop as a stream of consciousness and seeing the EVA as an monstrous angel without its restraints...that was way too might for my teenage psyche to handle lol. It was just as scary rewatching literally 15 years later!!

Like lowkey I forget everything that happened but I still see memes of the show to this day (*cough**cough* hospital incident) but NGE is so iconic and so unique literally nothing is comparable. I question the validity of any "top anime" list that doesn't at least shout it out. The aesthetics alone, I distinctly remember first watching and thinking the NERV HQ and Tokyo 3 designs were so sick and that impact still holds, every angel battle has me holding my breath. And don't even get me started on the music themes - the ones with the heavy timpani drums and loud brass for battle, I rewind scenes just to hear the music lol

I have been rewatching NGE (dub) and Cowboy Bebop (dub) going through the Gundam 80s movies (sub) + probably the Gundam Seed shows after, I just love retro futurism and I love mechs and I love aesthetic and world-building heavy shows ughhhh

Also Chilchuck what are you doing here ?!?!? How did I watch both NGE and Dungeon Meshi dubs and not connect the dots that it was the same voice actor until I looked it up like a week ago

Last post of the year 2024 and why not end it with Evangelion

Just watched neon genesis Evangelion up to the end of Evangelion and I have some stuff to just wanna spout out cuz it really brain melting to me

And before I start this going to have spoilers for NGE anime and end of evangelion

NGE anime

NGE is such a beautiful series like the vibe of the show captures this world that is both ours but slightly curved to a different direction

Just seeing the clash of old technology and the sci fi stuff creates this atmosphere of what a world could have been.

In the beginning The Monster of the week feeling was a great felt like this Saturday morning cartoon/ power rangers show where they fight monster and I kinda missed watching those but what made me like it was how the problem was really more earth shattering scary than how those old shows made it seem, like each threat had a real possibility to end the world and destroy the city pretty quickly if not stop

The episode that had more slice of life elements really drew me into the world like the Asuka and Shinji synchronized episode was probably one of may favorite cuz it expand the relationship between the characters so nicely

I love how terrifying the anime is like how they made the Eva 01 eat that angel like a ravenous beast was so creepy and unsettling

And speaking of unsettling just the ending it was such a departure from the beginning of monster of the weak world is ending stuff to this inner turmoil that was brewing in the back of story finally pops it lid, like from the characters problems just show out and just leave me in a state of shock cuz these characters problems are way deeper than just “I want to not fight” and I love it for that

Other creepy things is just that killing Rei clones scene and wow it just makes my skin crawl with all of those smiles from that usual emotionless character and death how all of them

Shoutout to the mini au world I love those in story to see how the world would have been with the apocalypse (please tell me if the fandom have more stuff in that mini universe)

But yea from the monster of the week to the strange ending I love it all

Best gay person ever I love this character so much, He is so cool and I wish I that there was more of him in the show, but his inclusion in his ending pretty solid like I want so much more romance with him cuz he was sooooo kind and nice in the cruel world of NGE

Misato

Shout out to the Problematic girl boss she’s an amazing character very deep and all of just her She feels like an actual person who went through stuff and knows the hard decisions in life and want to go past She’s only human and her hypocrisy shows and I think that’s why she is my second favorite character

Asuka

You’re starting to probably see a pattern on this list, All of the more loud characters are my favorite because it’s just more personality to them in this world like as Asuka would say, but these characters bring the life to the show and that’s why I really like like Asuka in introduction generates conflict to the other characters and really needed in a show like this

Kensuke

This used to be my favorite character when he was introduced, but the others took his place real fast once I got to know them, but this guy has a soft place in my heart because it was like the first person to feel like a human like you excited to see these robots, he genuine when talking to his friends, but I feel like his hidden sadness of like I know I’m gonna die so I wanna die seeing this really hits hard

Shinji 

He is a mess, Boy failure in the highest degree but its problems really is compelling to me, just wanting to run away from all of these pains and responsibility is so real, but his constant need to the story the role of the robot that gets him back to fight all of these monsters is really sad because he does suffer so much by being inside that robot and it’s sad to see each time he’s being forced not just by everyone by the world to fight is deeply saddening, and the world would’ve ended each time he doesn’t go into that robot so he is genuinely needed as it constantly shows the anime that without him, people will die so he is truly needed would’ve been higher up, (but that scene I expected worse because of how the Internet was infamously saying about that scene, but I’m glad it was just that and not anymore worse that it could’ve been still that was a terrible thing that he did disgusting but the Internet made it out to be way worse than I thought so yeah that was really yucky and made him a less like character to me)

Rei

Rei just creeps me out like when there is the moments of just that whole movie and that scene of those bodies getting ripped by the science lady was terrifying she is definitely I see the appeal of that type of character of this emotionless person, but I feel like it just creeps me out way more than it does for the other people I do not see that much of an appeal for her, make definitely has some cute moments but yea, I can’t say much (also it creep to put her face everywhere at the end of everything I think that my main dislike about her)

 Toji

I definitely dislike his first appearance of him punching Shinji and also him flashing, but overall, I feel like his depth like his backstory is really interesting and that brings them up to my favorites

Movie

The first part, oh my God brutality, one of the first pieces of media made me sick to stomach like wow the robot fighting and eating each other like creep me out but the horrors truly show when it was humans fighting humans, cuz it was easy for me to see the robot fights as yea that destruction was definitely crazy but that just an anime fictional thingy but the human war that happen was so cruel and the display of violence was so real like people can do that and that unsettling thought really just makes my stomach disgusted.

Part two was something y’all the surreal thing about was everything that the last parts of Eva was all about, the the realization of what does it mean to be a person and like all those meanings and constant asking of questions was sooooooooo both so confusing but I feel like i understand what it was doing and i think the meaning is that as who you are is made made by both the perception of others and your self which yea makes sense when said like that but it the fear of being perceive is in that meaning too

( This last paragraph probably either was said in this fandom millions or times of probably some nonsensical string of words )

Ending think right up

But yea NGE is in my top ten anime’s cuz like all of the messages how they made the characters and definitely the cool fights and action pieces

And i definitely want to get more into this media and I know the those rebuild movies so probably will watch that next year(hehe that tomorrow) but I know there is like dozen of analysis videos on the internet so please tell which ones I should watch or non at all

First Date:

None. This man is busy raising a child with Snake.

Second Try:

The two of you meet on a fan board and quickly exchange numbers. Soon he invites you over to his house for a date. You asked where he lived but he said he would prefer to pick you up. You wait outside until you feel what seems to be an earthquake. You go to run but then you look into the sky. "IS THAT A GIANT ROBOT!" The "vehicle" pulls up and sure enough, Otacon is waiting for you. "Good evening. You look wonderful..." He then handed you a bouquet of flowers and you came inside.

Man, he really was an otaku. His home consisted of a bedroom that was really more like a storage space, a bathroom and a kitchen. "Make yourself comfortable, I'm going to bring some refreshments." You looked around for a spot to sit down, his room being like that one photo of Yoshihiro Togashi but notably much cleaner. The walls were stacked from the floor to the ceiling. You would have to tell your date that piracy was also an option. Most of it was just anime so you knew better than to touch it.

There was a small CRT and just about every console you could think of. Even the bad ones.At the far end of the room was a computer. You didn't really understand how that stuff worked but you figured his setup must be very expensive since all you had was Windows 95. You saw a purple creature on the desktop. "What's a bonzi buddy?

"You then noticed that Hal had come back. "I brought you a bento and some pocky. Only the best for my little waifu." He then blushed and turned the television off. "Sorry. I forgot that I was playing Policenauts on my Saturn earlier.."He then asked Alexa to play his spotify playlist which consisted of nothing but Hatsune Miku.

After you were finished eating, he took you by the hand. "Allow you to show you my prized collection." He brought you to his glass stand filled with various figures. It had a little bit of everything. Transformers, all the Gundams, some Code Geass. Even this weird one he called Zone of the Enders? "Yeah, I'm a huge fan!" He then looked around to see if the almighty Mr. Kojima was watching."

But this... This is my favorite." It was a giant build of EVA 01. "I never knew you liked Evangelion..." He then pulled out a copy of End of Evangelion. "Would you like to watch it with me? I have the renewal edition..." You gazed into his eyes and kissed him. "Wow..." He then turned on his hello kitty DVD player and inserted the disc.

The two of you started frenching during the komm susser tod sequence. You began to stroke him while the lyrics "It all returns to nothing" played. "Looks like someone's snake is solid..." He then thought to himself while the screams of those being turned into orange juice could be heard. "It's just like one of my Japanese amines!" You gave one final pull, yelling "It all CUMS TUMBLING DOWN, TUMBLING DOWN, TUMBLING DOWN"

Having finished, Hal shut off his VR machine. Ever since David had left him to go on a date with a woman, he hadn't felt the same. He thought back to when he asked him if love could bloom on the battlefield and then started to sob into his arm. "WHY DOES EVERYONE I LOVE LEAVE ME!?" Little did Snake know but Otacon had created a program where he could be with him in a dating sim. He would later sell it on steam and become as rich as Snake did from the fortnite cameo, bringing him into the spotlight. They would later get back together and become the ultimate power couple.

What about Eva? I have a lot of thoughts on it, though I'm no expert.

It's the greatest creative work I've ever seen, for whatever that's worth. I love NGE, I (love? appreciate? deeply respect?) The End of Evangelion, I really love the "Neon Genesis Evangelion: Theatrical Edition #26 Live Action Part (Special Rush Edit Version)" that was just released outside of Japan a couple years ago in the Blu-ray issue. (Love and Pop I'm coming for you once I can find the best way to own you physically.)

I love the themes, I love the writing, I love the characters. I especially love Asuka. I love the visual style, I love the sound design, I love the editing. I love the music. I love "A Cruel Angel's Thesis" and "Komm Suesser Todd" and "Fly Me to the Moon"" and "Soul's Refrain" and "Thanatos" and "The Heady Feeling of Freedom" and "Good, or Don't Be" and "Decisive Battle" and "Marking Time, Waiting for Death" and everything.

I love the all the production details. I love "Everything You've Ever Dreamed" and Genesis 0:0 and interviews and the Blu-ray animatics and everything I've been able to find. One of these days I'll probably splurge on some old DVDs to get my hands on the original broadcast versions of episodes 21-24 and the theatrical version of Death and Rebirth.

I love all the weird little spinoff music projects we've gotten over the years; check out "Armageddon" off Evangelion Vox as an example (also included as a music video on the aforementioned Blu-rays).

I'm fascinated by the ways that it's been eaten and regurgitated and eaten again by pop culture (a common fixation of mine). Shinji Ikari Raising Project, for example, is some real thematically bankrupt dreck, but I'm very interested in playing and reading it for myself. Variations on themes and such, right? What did these ghouls take away from this earnest cry for understanding? That angry, traumatized red-headed teenagers make good body-pillows? Is that so? Maybe they got all their ideas from (mature content warning!) the '01 and '02 calendars... Gross! Gross in a lot of ways, and interesting for that reason. Who were the bastards who put this shit into production? Were they stupid, or greedy, or just evil? Lots of anthropology to be done here!

I love the fan album Asuka by Free Parking!, which you can listen to here. "Asuka, Continued", "Black Hole" and "I Don't Wanna Be a Man" are personal favorites. Can you believe their frontman is the VelociPastor guy?

I'm also planning on watching the Rebuilds, but I've been holding back until I can get all the Blu-rays. Not really a streaming guy -- when I can help it -- and they're like twenty dollars each. Eventually...

If you use vim or neovim (i like to remap to get vim-like keybindings in every programs i use), someone made an eva unit 01 theme for it. Popular plugins like whichkey, lualine, fzf or telescope are even themed. Palette is also lovely named about eva ("LCL" for orange^^). Author even has a custom eva mechanical keyboard. It won't replace your rosé pine, tokyonight, dracula, gruvbox... but it's a cool colorscheme.

Since you asked, favourite mechs/mech types from any series/brand?

Okay this is hard because I love so so many mechs, but I'll try and keep it to one example per franchise. For the purposes of this mech I'm calling a mech as a large walking vehicle that fully encases its pilot, of which there are no more than 1 (Sorry Ironstriders and Megazords, you're in different size classes)

I'm gonna start with a kinda ambiguous example (because you can't get out) which is Dreadnoughts from 40k. For non-40k people, dreadnoughts are essentially what happens if you took grandpa's life support and added tank-grade weaponry. Very funny (in the sense that grandpa's hitting clips on life support) and also very horrifying (in the sense that not even death can free you from the grasp of the Imperium). I'm partial to the Castraferrum pattern, because the newer Primaris dreadnoughts put too much emphasis on the armored part of "armored coffin" and basically no emphasis on the coffin.

Let's talk Metal Gear. This one is tough because pretty much every metal gear is great. Ultimately, though, I'm gonna have to give the W to REX here.

It has a nuke railgun. It has swag. It has a hidden melee combat mode and weaknesses because Otacon, one of its creators, was a mecha fan. It took so much to disable its controls, and after Otacon sidesteps the controls problems with Metal Gear Mk. 3, it still works after years of neglect well enough to take out its successor. Peak.

Does Alfredo Linguini from Ratatouille count?

Sadly have not gotten around to EVA, but unit 01 looks really cool.

Of course, with Titanfall, there's only one real option. We gotta go with BT-72-

WRONG. IT'S SCORCH.

I love this thing. I love its War Crimes Blaster. I love its fire shield. I love its voice. I love its capability for destruction. I love Titanfall's mech designs as a whole, but Scorch and Scorch Prime are my favorites. I am biased, and that does not stop me. Scorch is as badass as the day I first saw it, if not moreso. Scorch. Fuck yeah.

Happy Persona 3 Reload release week, everyone! I would make this post on the date to celebrate properly, but I've got some...plans, for that day, let's say. Until then though - hey, it's eva twin again, and with a Persona rip in tow, Persona 64.

Much like the channel itself, the blog is practically swimming in Super Mario 64 rips at this point: WA-HOO DISCO, Piranha Plantsom, Super Mario 64 Submarine Ending, and of course eva twin's own previous Blessing the Dire, Dire Rains, are just some of the ones I've covered on here. But the thing is, for as frequent as they are - I never find them to grow stale due to just how much sheer creativity and freedom rippers have within Mario 64's sound. At this point, Super Mario 64's set of instruments used throughout its whole soundtrack as so iconic and immediately recognizable to it, that "Super Mario 64" is pretty much an instrument all of its own. And Persona 64 is, really, just another excellent rip showing what that "instrument" can do.

Part of what I love with rips like Piranha Plantsom in particular is just how much fun they have with the vast amount of iconic themes that are in Mario 64, almost taking you on a journey throughout the whole game - yet on the complete opposite side of that, we have rips like Harder To Breathe 64 that try to mine as much as possible out of just one of the game's themes and its core instruments. I find that Persona 64, beyond just being a banger of a rip and an excellent arrangement of Persona 4's I'll Face Myself, also serves as an excellent example of the middle ground between the two extremes. It's clearly taking after Bowser's Theme the most with the harsh, shredding-like sound that defines it taking center stage as the track begins, yet its quickly joined by the more serene, bright piano-like sound that's found in level themes like Dire, Dire Docks. Given that the original I'll Face Myself primarily uses electric guitars for most of its lead melody, it sort of feels as if the big contrast between the two instruments employed in Persona 64 was a deliberate way to bring in some of Persona 4's theming into Mario 64's soundscape - this battle between the bright optimism and hope versus the looming darkness deep within. Intentional or not, its a mood that I can't get enough of - especially in just how joyous of a note the arrangement is able to end off on as a result.

Althesame, it all culminates in one hell of a fun listen - just an all-around fantastic rip, that continues to show just how good the team has gotten at using Super Mario 64 in particular for their rips. Whilst rippers were once simply aiming to achieve authentic imitations of their source materials, the complete freedom that the game's soundscape now offers has opened up a whole new world of creative expression in terms of arranging - althewhile sounding oh so authentically like Mario 64.
