I've had to filter out the b*ddie tag because of the sheer amount of hate and bad faith readings about Tommy in the various tags. I feel bad because I have friends who ship it and are normal about the pairing and but holy moly it feels like they are in the minority.

Hey there anon. Not gonna lie, I was afraid to open the ask haha but it’s a good thing that we seem to agree.

This is an issue in every fandom, but there seems to be bigger in a few others, mostly those that feature a pairing that is very unlikely to actually become canon (spn, teen wolf, Merlin, Sherlock,etc) Although it seems like there is a possibility that this one ship actually sails, which I blame on the closeness the creators have with fans.

I mean, I love when fan interaction and feedback is taken into consideration to continuing a story. The whole bi buck thing was a fortunate situation that aligned with accidental queer coding and good fan reception. But the thing is, of course you should write something that the fans will enjoy, but your writing shouldn’t be dictated by it. In fact, it’s advisable for writers to not engage with fan work (ex: reading fanfic) to not taint their original objective. Actors also shouldn’t read fanfic to not influence their character choices.

In the end, I think it’s more of a non issue and it can be easily ignored with the right tools. It’s just quite frustrating to enter a tag for something you enjoy, expecting cute gifs and praise and mostly getting shit from fans who decided they know better and use their personal take and opinion as fact.

This is a delightful Valentine's Day fic featuring oblivious Steve, which is one of my favorite kinds of Steve! The pining is real, but the fic is lighthearted, not lingering on the angst of it all, but rather focusing on the positives. Steve's friendship and back and forth with Robin is great, but his interactions with Nancy and Jonathan are even better. It's a great time!

Don't Make Me by @idridian [Halloween Ends, Corey/Allyson/Michael]

You do not understand how badly I needed a fic like this after finally seeing Halloween Ends for the first time. That movie took over my whole brain for a hot minute and I was worried there would be nothing out there to sink my teeth into afterwards. But this fic. This fic was there to give me everything that I needed after the movie. "Allyson Corruption Arc" might be my favorite tag ever. It goes without saying, but there's a darkness to this fic that wraps around you while reading it. The relationship with Allyson and Corey is EVERYTHING! I just. This fic is beautiful and I love it!

To Run The Dog by @pterawaters [Stranger Things, Stoncy]

I love me some fic where Stancy crush hard on Jonathan and want to date him together. This is a really lovely AU where Steve and Nancy are married and keep seeing Jonathan running by their house with his dog. The way they want so badly to interact with him, and the friendship that ends up developing once they get the chance, is wonderful. The characters still feel like themselves despite not having gone through the same things as they do in the show, and it's just. Really enjoyable to read!

Gosh, this fic hits me right in the feels. There's something about sitting with a character who is feeling so low and feels like they can't talk to anyone (even though they know deep down that they could but it FEELS like they can't). Spencer desperately needs someone to see that he's struggling, but it's hard when there's so much going on at the same time. I don't even know what all to say, this fic just really gave me the angst and hurt/comfort (emotional and physical) that I revel in.

The Babysitter by @stevethehousewife [Stranger Things, Stancy, Dusteve, uhh... more]

A fic inspired by my favorite horror comedy movie ever? With Steve as the titular babysitter? But not evil? AND it's A/B/O?? Yeah there are many, many reasons I love this fic. The descriptions of Steve feel like they came right out of the movie in a way that made them so easy to see in my head. But it changes enough about the story that it doesn't feel at all like a straight up rehash of what you've already seen. AND it combines some of my favorite ships, with a Steve who is just the best ever. I freaking LOVE THIS FIC SO MUCH!!

All that I wanted for these three was for them to realize that they have feelings for each other. That they can make a relationship work, if they just try. And dammit, this fic delivers! While also adding in some great angst and hurt/comfort (physical and emotional). I didn't realize quite how much I wanted to see Jamie hurting and being stood up for/protected by the people who care about him, but boy did I! This fic is really lovely, it sucked me in and didn't let me go until I finished reading.

Both Hands Holding on to the Wire by @stevethehousewife [Stranger Things, Stobin]

This was one hell of a gift to get in a smut exchange, holy moly! It focuses really well on Robin's confusion over the thoughts she starts having about Steve after accidentally walking in on him changing. The whole concept is handled respectfully, taking the weight of it all very seriously. Robin and Steve's friendship is so good, the way they can just BE with each other. It's got the angst I adore, a Steve who is an absolute sweetheart, and a Robin who is so much more like her season 4 self than season 3 (which is a huge plus for me personally).

The Hourglass by @pterawaters [Fargo s5, Dot & Gator, Dot/Wayne/Gator]

A shorter fic here, but no less wonderful! It's exactly what I needed after finishing the latest season of Fargo. Getting to see where their lives might have gone, if Dot had been able to take Gator with her when she ran away. If he had wanted to go. It gets me emotional every time I think about it. I love love love this fic!

I will recommend this fic forever and for always. It has everything: hurt Steve! Time loops! Season 3 Steve being thrown back to the worst day of his life and forced to relive it over and over until he gets it right (hint, it's the Halloween party in s2). I fucking love this fic! I've lost count of how many times I've reread it, but it might rival the number of time loops Steve lives through (okay maybe not quite that many, but you get my point). It shows Steve a side of Jonathan he didn't get to see the first time around. It gives him the closure he probably didn't realize he needed. I just. Adore this story!!

An Oath Broken, An Oath Kept by @urisarang [Love Between Fairy and Devil, Chang Heng/Dongfang Qingcang]

This fic is so mean in the best way! Both of them are so hurt, physically and emotionally. And then Chang Heng is forced to hurt DFQC even more, which only makes it that much BETTER. It was the perfect gift to receive for the Flash Made Them Do It exchange. I laugh every time I see the a/n (the word count minimum was 300 words. The word count on this fic is... a lot more than that). And it's just as fun to reread now as it was to read it the first time around. I want to draw hearts around it!

One chapter in and I already know this is a fic that is going to have a meaningful impact. A story of found family anchored around a gay bar run by Baz (and featuring his drag persona Tyra Fangs as a headliner-check the art if you haven't seen it 😍), this fic is already delivering on vivid cinematic imagery mixed with very real and meaningful messages. I cannot wait to see where this one takes us.

Holy moly, this fic packs a punch that is worthy of its AU inspiration. Eirlys, even in its early stages, is giving us the brutal horror tied with deep emotional connections that you'd expect from a fic inspired by The Last of Us. I cannot believe I haven't recced this fic yet. It is SO GOOD. Sometimes you read a fic and you think "this is a whole ass story of its own" and this fantasy AU set on the English coast featuring fae and magic and legends made real is A WHOLE ASS STORY. The writing is so smart and the way each thread of the narrative braids together into this beautiful and complete picture of embracing your whole self and really seeing others. Incredible and one my "must read" list.

An oldie but a goodie. This normal AU set in college has Simon and Baz as roommates who walk a delicious line of enemies to lovers fuck buddies, and anyone who knows me knows I'm absolutely WEAK to enemies to lovers fuck buddies. At only 2k words, this fic manages to tell what feels like a longer get-together story. Lovely smut and a very satisfying resolution to a shared misunderstanding.

Many thanks to @spencer-reids-adventures and @domestikhighway58 for tagging me here. <3 Pretend I'm doing this on time...I spent ALL DAY yesterday at a children's wrestling tournament (seriously, 10 hours in a high school gym with hundreds of people...I can feel all the germs invading my body as we speak) so I didn't have the lifeforce remaining to use my brain. (This got long so I put most of it under a cut.)

2. Word count posted for the year: 470,122

3. Fandoms I wrote for: Criminal Minds, The Punisher (sort of...I shipped Frank Castle with Hotch so...) & Fargo

4. Pairings: AHAHAAA! Oh. Okay. Hotch/Morgan. .... ......... I did write a small amount of Hotch/Blackwolf, Hotch/Will and Hotch/Reid. But let's be real here. I am an OTP girl and Hotch & Morgan are married in my mind.

6. Work I’m most proud of (and why):

Probably Running Toward Nothing, because it was hard for me to finish. It took so many twists and turns, and I didn't plan it out well enough (story of my life)...it was written for a challenge, and it was not at all what I imagined it would be when I started. But I also wound up really loving it by the end.

7. Work I’m least proud of (and why):

Cold Hands. Hotch/Reid isn't my ship already and I just felt very...like I could have done better. I don't dislike the story but I don't feel very proud of it either.

8. Share or describe a favorite review you received:

By far, my favorite was @olivinesea putting me in jail repeatedly for The Silence Drowns (a different take on the Foyet arc).

9. A time when writing was really, really hard:

May/June/July. Something about that 3 month span, my kids in baseball, I don't know. I couldn't write shit and it was stressing me out. Thankfully it came back to me eventually.

10. A scene or character you wrote that surprised you: 

Writing Foyet the way I did in The Silence Drowns was really an experience, focusing so hard on his POV, devoting entire chapters to how he did what he did and what he did when we didn't see him...that was really fun. And flipping the switch on Reid and turning him into the antagonist while also royally fucking up his life in Running Toward Nothing was interesting too.

11. A favorite excerpt of your writing:

He moved slow, still half-asleep. One rrrrrrip and he tore into the tissue to reveal a soft blanket. Too soft. Velvety, thick, plush. He couldn't make out the strange array of colors and buried his fist inside of it in order to pull it out. The bag and tissue paper were quickly discarded, and Derek reached out to grab the bottom two corners, helping move this along faster. He really had to go. Quickly, he splayed the blanket out over the bed. It was huge and almost impossible in the dark and from Hotch's angle to make out the pattern at first.

Derek grinned proudly the moment he caught the realization on Hotch's stiff features. “Is that...your face?”

“Sure is,” Derek announced, pushing the tissue paper back into the bag and tossing it aside. “So you won't forget me while I'm gone.”

Hotch raised an eyebrow. “Do you think that's likely to happen?” He had abdominal surgery, not brain surgery. He'd been trying to be gentle with Derek since it happened, the man was pulling double duty as Unit Chief and primary caregiver, burning the candle at both ends. In some ways, Hotch was glad they had a case that would take him out of town, maybe he'd get a break. He could focus entirely on the job and not worry about how Hotch was going to get from the bed to the toilet and back at 3am. Having the catheter had removed the need for that step but it was fleeting. He was on his own now. He was also doing just fine, he thought. No falls, a couple of near misses but he'd caught himself each time.

“Do you like it?”

“I love it,” Hotch replied quietly, smoothing it beneath slow hands. He was losing the battle with his tired body. “It's beautiful.” It was. In that way that heartfelt things often were, their beauty didn't lie in aesthetics. He wouldn't put this blanket on display in the front room, perhaps, but he adored it nonetheless. "It'll keep me warm as I convalesce." He'd been using that word a lot in the last few days, Derek noted. It was his boredom talking, finding ways to make light of his situation in order to soften the blow that he could barely manage a walk from his bed to the kitchen without being significantly winded and ready for a nap. He'd been refining new jokes, mostly biting sarcasm that came out a little slow but didn't sting any less. Jess was the recipient more often than Derek, being around more. He'd dare her to steal the blanket, just to see, but he was pretty sure she wasn't going to try it. Not with Derek's enormous face right there. Derek managed to create the one thing she'd stay far away from. She was probably going to call it creepy.

“As you convalesce, huh?"

Hotch nodded and smiled, smoothing his hands over the soft fabric. He was so out of it. Derek didn't mind. He was struggling with this slower lifestyle, something he'd be at for the next few weeks. A few more days and the staples could come out, after that he thought things would get better. Maybe speed up a bit. Slowing down wasn't in the Hotch playbook of life, but he was dealing.

12. How did you grow as a writer this year: 

I'm not sure I did until the end when I realized I didn't need to over-think editing quite so much, and I should really just have fun. I spent most of the year stressing out over it and not enjoying it as much as usual. No more of that. I also decided that I don't mind so much being a one trick pony. I want to write about Hotch/Morgan more than anything else and I gave myself permission to just indulge it as often as I felt like it.

13. How do you hope to grow next year:

I hope to detach my worth as a writer from the interaction I receive. I do my best to maintain that mindset, and I hope to settle in better with it.

14. Who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (could be another writer or beta or cheerleader or muse etc etc): 

I mean, I probably should just simplify this and say it was Hotch & Morgan, really. Nearly everything I wrote this year centered around those two so I think I would be remiss not to acknowledge them as the muses they are. All of my friends, all of you incredible amazing writers I am fortunate enough to consider my friends...you have all influenced me positively. I can never thank you enough.

15. Anything from your real life show up in your writing this year:

Uh..hahaha! Yeah. I included lots of sports dad/coach moments, a lot of Jack because of my kids, you know...that kind of thing. Nothing huge...but this? Yeah. My life.

16. Any new wisdom you can share with other writers:

You can focus less on editing. Don't edit at the expense of posting your stories, yo. Don't overthink it.

17. Any projects you’re looking forward to starting (or finishing) in the new year:

I'm looking forward to actually finishing a bunch of these multi-chapter stories that I've been dragging out forever. Writing more with @domestikhighway58 on our Hotch/Reid story, diving in to the SWAT and retired in Chicago series more...so much.

Whether it be out of hopeless romanticism or the kind of curiosity that killed the cat, what would happen if one were to write on their hand?

And when an investigation ensues over a string of murders spread throughout Central, will those bonds last or change under the pressure to catch the culprit?

Excerpt Chapter 1:

Go home, Fullmetal,” ordered General Mustang. “You’ve done enough.” He picked up a pen and began filling out the report on his desk.

“Oh c’mon, General! I got the job done, didn’t I?” countered Ed. “And stop calling me ‘Fullmetal’.”

Sighing, Roy pushed aside his paperwork and looked up at the seething blond, his onyx eyes connecting with molten gold.

“Yet you still managed to cause havoc,” he pointed out. “I had hoped you’d keep the damage to a minimum. How shortsighted of me.” He smiled and picked up his pen, silently dismissing the young man as he turned his attention back to the forms.

Ed could feel steam hissing out of his ears.

Leaning his head against the window, Edward recounted snippets of the annoyingly frustrating argument he had had with Mustang hours before he and Alphonse boarded a train back to Resembool. A scowl appeared when he thought of the bastard’s smug smile and the look in his dark eye, telling him that he knew how to royally tick him off—which Roy did, of course. Fucker. If Ed had had a nice, tall glass of ice cold milk at that moment, he would’ve thrown the gross stuff in the General’s face. In the blond’s biased opinion, the old man would have deserved it. Ed let out a huff. “Asshole,” he grumbled under his breath. He crossed his arms and sank down in the brown, leather bench seat. “Total bullshit.”

Next to Ed sat Alphonse, who was currently trying to read the book about medicinal plants in his lap. But it was no use. The only thing the poor boy managed to do—while his older brother continued to piss himself off—was read the same paragraph over and over again. Upon hearing Edward’s string of whispered expletives, Al snapped the book shut and shifted in the seat to face his sibling.

“Are you going to mope the entire ride home, brother?” sighed Al.

“Huh? What are ya talking about? I’m just sitting here looking out the window,” Ed scoffed, waving an arm in the direction of the suddenly interesting blur of trees.

Narrowing his amber gaze at the stubborn older boy, Alphonse opened the book and flopped back against the seat, his blond fringe falling in his eyes. “It’s your fault, you know,” he remarked, flipping the pages in search of the place where he left off.

Ed whipped his head to the side and stared at Al. A slight grimace graced his features when his long, sunny-colored ponytail snagged in its hair tie. “Um…Say that again?” he requested, quirking an eyebrow.

“You blew up part of your lab,” the younger Elric nonchalantly stated, turning a page.

“It blew up because one of those bombs Mustang will never use—but asked me to make anyway—exploded,” excused Ed. He crossed his arms and slumped in his spot on the seat.

“I know you finished those bombs weeks ago. Your lab blew up because you were bored,” insisted Alphonse. “You started experimenting with different chemicals to entertain yourself.” He glared over at Ed, who was intently staring out the window. In its reflection, their golden eyes connected. “I know you know how dangerous it is to mess around because you have nothing else to do. General Mustang has the right to be mad. I wouldn’t be surprised if he fires you. Then you won’t have a lab to blow up and you won’t have access to the library.”

Ed’s jaw dropped and he blinked at the scolding tone in his brother’s voice. Whose side was the little twerp on?

“And you know what, brother?” continued Al. “I’m mad. After everything we’ve been through, I thought you would calm down a bit. You can’t just keep blowing stuff up because you feel like it.”

At the rate Edward was going, Alphonse was positive he would have a heart attack worrying over him—or worse, get gray hair. How did he end up with such a stubborn brother? Sure, he loved him. But holy moly! Al finally had his body back. He would like to keep it alive, thank you very much.

“Anyway, you better cheer up before we arrive in Resembool. It’s Winry’s birthday tomorrow and she’ll smack you with her wrench if you show up with a sour attitude,” he added, turning his attention back to the book.

“Yeah, yeah. I know,” muttered the older Elric, leaning his head against the window. He let out a huff of air, fogging up the window before drawing stick figures—particularly ones with Roy Mustang wearing devil horns.

“You’re not excited?” questioned Alphonse, his eyebrows lifting in surprise.

“No. I am,” answered Ed. “It’s just—”

“The pen.”

“—that stupid pen. She keeps talking about it. She think it’s gonna work and if it doesn’t, I’m gonna get the life beaten out of me. It almost happened the last time Winry smacked me with her wrench,” he paused to huff more warm air against the cool glass. “Plus, her pen’s supposedly been ‘working’ for three years now. Ya think she woulda tried it when she turned seventeen.”

“Between traveling and doing odd jobs for the General, we’ve been gone. Maybe she’s waiting for us to return home before trying it out.”

“Yeah, except nothing’s gonna happen.”

“Oh, come on, brother. It could work! Just imagine: you and Winry, soulmates,” mused Al, his tone whimsical. Sparkles shined in his golden eyes. He found the idea romantic and deep down, he hoped the legend was true.

Edward finished his mural in which The Ol’ Bastard died in the fiery pits of hell before turning to glance at Alphonse with raised eyebrows. “You actually believe in that lame superstition, legend thing?”

Being Alone, Cats, and Children: Id 31705, Neutered 1.5 Yrs., 42 lbs Manhattan ACC disappointed Purry dreams of a f amily to love him... ****TO BE KILLED 8/10/18**** RETURNED :( 07/25/18 (was adopted 07/07/18) “Hashtag approached the assessor and stayed close by, seeking comfort” and “Hashtag allowed the counselor to pet him and he would place his body on her leg and move closer to her when she moved away” And those two lines sum up Hashtag’s entire life. His parent said they are moving out of the country after having had this sweet boy only one year abandoning him to his fate. Good Riddance we say, because Hashtag deserves so much more. He seems so lost, wanting to play with the volunteers one minute then wanting to snuggle with them the next as if he is not sure that by having a brief zoomie it may not have been the right thing to please them. There is a shy, hurt, timidity about him. We are getting the feeling that this little boy was probably reprimanded quite a bit from his “high achiever” parent, because the volunteers say that he was afraid to get up on the bench with them, looking timid after he did his business as if his mom was standing over him berating him for not being perfect right out of the puppyhood gate. The owner claimed that she paid a lot of money for him and that he was a boxer / bulldog purebred (???), but if she was expecting him to blossom into a massive bulldog, then this poor boy is probably used to never living up to her grandiose expectations. We are not sure whose heart is more shattered, his or ours, because underneath those eyes that want only, just for once, to be told he did a “good job” is a puppy who is playful, happy, and only wanting to be loved. You will need to fill out applications with a New Hope Rescue Partner to foster or adopt a dog on the To Be Killed list, including those labelled Rescue Only.
