In love with the idea of Shanks knowing he has a thing for Buggy pretty much since the start but Buggy only realizing that he’s in love during his fever when everyone leaves for laugh tale without them. They have shared their dreams and hopes for the future and probably fricken kissed before that, but his dumb teen brain has refused to make the connection until he was so sick he couldn’t focus on the wooden ceiling for too long without the pattern starting to move in swirls. But Shanks is there. Shanks. His best friend. Everything is spinning. Please be wants to go too captain. Shanks. God he’s going to hurl. A cold compress on his forehead. He loves him so much. What? He does? That’s a thought he can muse over later when he stops seeing spots in the corner of his eyes. No! Don’t go. No come back! He just realized he- “Let me go, I’m just getting more water.” Ah. Good. Loves him so much…

Years later and after many bitter moments Shanks is gonna reminisce about this “You know, I fell for you first, but you confessed to me first.” “The fuck are you talking about? You literally told me you always had feelings for me only a month ago. I kept that shit under a tight lock for ages.” “Not what you said when you were having a fever so high I could have fried eggs on your face?” * high pitched clown squeal* “I SAID THAT OUT LOUD?!?”

What about sick during an interview? That's been sitting on my mind for a while....

I don't know if you want an specific plot but I had a dream once (me and my sickfic-driven brain):

It's quite simple actually but maybe they start feeling sick as the interview goes on and they try to tell someone discreetly. Maybe they manage to get out of the place with an excuse, helped by another member (kind of like what happened to Beomgyu once)? Or maybe things can get bad enough that they end up getting sick right then and there (if you don't like it, then maybe they get so desperate to get out of there that they end up saying it out loud, maybe even asking for the interviewer to excuse him.

You might know by now that I am a sucker for public situations (although I don't like when they get sick in front of fans and stuff, so I try to work around it). Hope this helps? Or not???

I feel like this is VERY representative of my stories 😂😂 fluff all the way!! And friends to lovers and au is really what I'm all about too!!! (Sprinkled with sexual content ofc)

I'm kinda surprised that I have 5 stories with established relationships because I feel like the majority of my ideas have to do with meeting and then falling in love OR realizing feelings after years of friendship. Those are definitely the stories I'm mostly drawn to write. But it makes sense that my three established relationship milex fics are the kinda sad ones 😂

Uh, first thing that pops into my head is definitely the bath scene! The way the scene is set, the ambiance, the way I can almost smell the bath products, see the flicker of the candles, feel the soft humidity on my face, the healing waves, the soft comforting darkness, it just exudes the exact vibe I was going for. I love incorporating all of the senses when I write and this felt so alive to me, I could feel it, smell it, see it all so clearly.

Also I really liked leaving in the details about Miles' clothes. In my head he was so clearly wearing the dark blue jumpsuit and those heeled boots and I enjoyed how I managed to show it in the story by having Alex help him out of it 😇😘

I think maybe my most out of my comfort zone is "you just ain't the one for me" mostly because it's told from Taylors pov and it generally features her, the sex scenes, having someone else witness Alex and Miles and not being inside either of their heads. It's just very different but I feel like it made sense for what I was trying to do. Even if I'm fairly unfamiliar with her as a person, I feel like the character I came up with for her made sense.

I feel like it made me braver in terms of what I can get away with. And to know that a lot of things can be shown instead of said or told explicitly. A lot can be left up for interpretation. Even if some people would've liked to know what happened next, I liked leaving it up to the readers. (I feel like it was fairly obvious tho😂) I also just like that it was something so different and people still liked it, so I know not to box myself in. I can be free and experiment with my stories and tell them in the way I feel makes sense, and still have people enjoy them ❤️

Oh, that's too many to count! I'm constantly in awe of the pure skill and talent of the writers in this fandom, and I'd love to pick up something from all of them. I love how @yellowloid is so good at the deeply intense romantic stuff, just diving so deep and making us feel it too. I love the absolutely insane level of detail and expertise of @elorianna s writing and the way she incorporates real life elements, I love the world building and the cutting edge characters of @thranduil-aran-edhil. I love the humour and ingenuity in plot and character in @girlinthepictureframe s stories, I love the way @stereobone sets the vibe and mood of the fic and how they say so much with so few words (something I'll never learn 😂😂), I love the absolute heart wrenching gutpunch @blacktrickle is able to write, I love seeing you use your real life profession as inspiration for the very best sickfics.. and so many many many more!!!

I love how people characterise our boys, I love how they come up with so many amazingly interesting settings, the level of detail in their aus and canon compliant stories, I love the fluff and the heartbreak.. and most of all I love how different they all are. And how I'm different from all of them too. And there's room for all of us, and so many more that I've forgotten to mention, and how we all learn and evolve as time goes on. My heart is full.

It's not a new one, but it's SO GOOD. The last fic I read was "Hotel Room" by weirdchick333 and it's just amazing. Their works are some of the very best I've ever read and I always find myself going back to read it when I've got a bit of time to myself. Highly recommend all of their absolutely incredible stories as they're just fucking class (but I assume most of you know that already 😂❤️)

I've read all your karunira fics and I've loved them all! This ship has soo much potential!

I saw that you take requests and I thought I could give it a go.. Would it be possible if you wrote a sickfic? Like niragi feels sick and feverish but won't admit it and try to hide it because he doesn't want the others from the beach picking on him.. But hatter assigns him on a game mission (karube is also there, kinda looking down on him and giving him sharp and mean remarks). While at the game, niragi has trouble making it through whilst sick and struggles, until karube pities him and helps him since he can't and deep down he doesn't want niragi to die.. So he saves him last minute and afterwards he tries to take care of him. Niragi at first is a bit out of it and isn't aware of karube's presence, making karube worry a bit but quickly tries to push this feeling aside, making him think whether he's becoming soft for niragi. There can be a happy ending! Whether you decide to follow this shit of a plot or change it a bit I don't mind, feel free to do so!

💥 What is one canon thing that you wish you could change?

Y'know, I usually talk about Persona 3, and I was sorely tempted to say that I would give the male protag social links with the male party members and Ryoji, but... I think if I could change one thing about the canon of any franchise, I would be much more likely to change the way Kanji and Naoto were both handled in Persona 4. If not making them canonically queer, then at least removing some of the more objectionable things from their portrayal (such as the way you have to force femininity on Naoto in both the main plot and especially the Social Link, and how the game chickened out from portraying Kanji as unambiguously MLM and yet still felt emboldened to make him the butt of a ton of homophobic jokes).

🚀 Do you like to outline your fic first or create as you go?

For long fics, I tend to create an extremely vague outline first, just so I get all my ideas out onto the page and don't forget where I was going with it. But, other than that, I pretty much write by the seat of my pants, lmao. This does mean that my fics have a tendency to really get away from me and morph into something completely different (my current WIP, for example, grew a mind of its own and is somehow already 14K words long, ahaha...) but that's half the fun.

💕 What is your favorite fic that you’ve written?

aaaa, this is a tough one! I tend to be my own harshest critic, aha, so often scrolling through my fics just makes me cringe, buuuut... I think Miso Soup, a P3 sickfic which I posted recently but which has been in development for waaaay too long, is a very strong contender. Other than that, I'm honestly still proud of Oil, an EliHec Fire Emblem fic which... was also in development for waaaay too long, lmao.

🦋 Which character is your favorite to write?

Currently, I'm really obsessed with writing Shinjiro, because his voice is so distinctive and fun to play around with. He has such an informal, devil-may-care kind of attitude, and is the kind of guy who actually has a fair amount of emotional intelligence but just refuses to admit his feelings to himself anyway, so he's simultaneously easy to write for because he's observant and can pick up on a lot, and also difficult to write for because he can be a bit of an unreliable narrator. Other than that, I really like writing Aigis! I just love playing around with overly-formal and technical POVs for characters who pick up on lots of tiny details but might also miss significant elements of conversation and body language due to lacking cultural context <3

🦈 Which character is the toughest to write?

Yukari and Ken are both very difficult for me, although I still have a lot of fun writing them when I can manage to get their voices down. They're hard for me for very similar reasons -- I feel like both of them are putting up facades throughout much of the narrative, not because they're trying to trick the rest of the cast or anything, but just because they don't feel fully at ease with everyone. Ken, for example, is definitely mature and intelligent, but we obviously know that he's always trying to appear mature and intelligent, and sometimes lies to do so (see: pretending not to care about Featherman). Meanwhile, Yukari isn't trying to appear mature so much as she's often distrustful of the other members of SEES (usually rightfully so lmao), so it can often feel like she's warily hiding her true thoughts. I love these aspects of their characters, don't get me wrong -- particularly in Yukari's case; I think the contrast between her hesitance around Mitsuru and her boldness in speaking her mind when she feels strongly is one of the best parts of many story cutscenes -- but it can make both of their perspectives a bit slippery to pin down.

👑 Do you like writing short fics or long fics?

Well, I tend to prefer oneshots or twoshots over chapter fics, but, when it comes to word count... 😅 my fics... really tend to get away from me. Every once in a while, I'll manage to keep it around 3-5K, but generally, most fics I post are more in the 6-9K range, which is almost always much longer than I expected them to be when I started them. (And sometimes they somehow turn into like 14K even though I SWEAR it was only gonna be 5K wtf--)

💌 Is there a favorite trope you like to write?

Angst, whump, and hurt/comfort are the obvious ones, but I guess those are more genres than tropes? When it comes to more specific tropes, I absolutely love writing severe injuries/illnesses/other afflictions which then dredge up emotional problems. Eg. a character gets injured, which makes the other characters realize how much they care about them, or a character gets sick and the other characters take care of them, which makes the sick character get overwhelmed because they realize that they're not used to being helped... stuff like that 😅

No historical tragedies or disasters in the area, ectoplasm, or EMF. Dean's only lead was a battered-looking kid that'd been coming to the park every day since it'd all started.

really interesting au fic! slightly ‘it’s a terrible life’. dean winchester is a hunter/EMT and sam wesson is a college kid destined to die on a roller coaster ride.

This is the day that marked the Holy and Blessed Union of Dean Winchester and Jo Harvelle.

The merging of prominent bloodlines is always a grand occurrence, but breeding pedigree hunter families like Winchester and Harvelle is something to be rejoiced. It is also something to be meticulously planned, which thankfully the Host is very good at.

Or, the romantic comedy where Dean Winchester and Jo Harvelle are destined to get married, Castiel is given the task of playing matchmaker and fails terribly, the entire Heavenly Host becomes a sitcom audience, God warns against male pregnancy, and Jimmy Novak is incredibly unimpressed with angels in general.

somewhat of a fandom classic and the humor holds up wonderfully. a very silly fic completed with commentary from angel radio throughout the entire thing.

I’m seeing people being confused about the Y-Destiny plotline and I just binge-watched it up to ep 9 so I’m here to explain. I won’t give out spoilers so you can choose if you want to watch it.

It’s 15 episodes. It includes 7 couples. Every couple has a story that spans across 2 episodes. The stories are not connected so you can pick and choose which ones you want to watch and which you want to skip. All the characters are friends with each other and appear in each other’s stories. But you don’t have to watch all the episodes to know who they are.

Episode 1 + 2: Tuesday (TueAke)

Basically an Enemies to Lovers, SportsAU, sickfic. Tue is a stern trainer who turns to a pile of goo the moment he’s shown a little bit of kindness. Kinda confusing but the chemistry is there.

Episode 3 + 4: Sunday (SunNuea)

Sun is a tutor and Nuea wrecks his whole life by being his student. Nuea is a walking thirst trap and Sun can’t function most of the time when Nuea is around. They’re both whipped for each other tho. This is the story everyone likes.

Episode 5 + 6: Monday (TeamMon)

Team is a player, Mon is an innocent baby boi who is apparently colourblind because he misses the mountain of red flags thrown his way. Things go exactly the way you think.

Episode 7 + 8: Thursday (PaoThurs)

A complete 180 in the genre department. Thurs is pretending to be a shaman to skam his classmates out of their money, when he accidentally summons a real ghost - Pao. Shenanigans ensue.

Episode 9 + 10: Wednesday (PuthKaeng)

Both Puth and Kaeng are players who secretly sleep with each other. This is the smutty episode everyone’s been talking about. The second part is not out yet but it looks promising.

Sat falls asleep at age 8 and wakes up at age 18 with a perfect life. He is hot and popular but he’s no longer friends with his childhood bff. Basically the story of “13 going on 30” but make it gay.

Friday (SukJia /ex SukTee)

This is the Yoon/Talay/Perth story that we’re all waiting to watch. To be honest, I watched the trailer 15 times and I still have no idea what the story is about. So Suk(Talay) is mourning the death of his boyfriend Tee(Perth) and Jia(Yoon) is in love with Suk and wants to be by his side... And this is when things go off the rails. Suk is cleaning up his restaurant, that is also a plane (there is no explanation for it) when he gets a call from his dead boyfriend. So Suk decides to believe in miracles and asks Porpla from YYY (who is now dressed as a homeless man) to send him back in time so he can save his boyfriend. Queue lots of crying.

I know that we’ve been spoiled with amazing bls lately (i’m still in my feels about atots, wbl, itsay and so many more, it’s like 2020 said “here, I’m sorry” with them) but don’t expect anything too groundbreaking with Y-Destiny. It’s rushed and it has plot holes because the stories have to fit in 2 episodes but at the same time it’s cute and safe to watch if you wanna chill for a couple hours.

Okay so if you count by subscriptions, bookmarks or hits, that would be my Syndicate Heist Of Las Nevadas (But Everybody Has Superpowers), The Totem Of Undying Job. Put almost four months and 62k of writing into that one and re-learned how to write and finished a long-form story for the first time in *cough* ten *cough* many years.

If you count by kudos, that would be the 700-word sickfic I wrote while the kettle boiled to deal with canon betrayals in someone else's fic (shoutout to knifetrick), that is the only thing I wrote this year that can be described as "fluffy" and also had nine people subscribe to it (?). This Is My Pity Party I do not understand you and how people keep finding you, but I'm— glad you enjoyed? Thank you for the kudos?

oh dear, can you see me? by findingkairos, for being the first serious longfic that I'd read in the fandom and making me think about minecraft mechanics as informing story, and about dehumanization and coming back from that, and about inherent dignity, and for like, blowing my mind. This is the first writing of any kind that I went back to re-read in years and it changed my relationship with reading right at about the same time as I was starting to be unable to concentrate on original fiction of any kind and panicking over that. Something about reading on my computer still worked though, and so I did not lose my mind, and instead I went "I am going to google how to be a good commenter on fic and emulate that because I need to do something to express my love here". Pronoun shift my beloved.

Orphan's Path, by @aenor-llelo, Alderous, Anarchy-Schmanarchy (Murder_Schmurder), BattleBlaze, ConcoctionsFromHell, Falrisesi, fluxphage, Otakuforlife19, Rocket999. (it takes a village to write an orphan's path.) Right, so, I am aro/ace. Known that for a good like, six/four years now. Yes I was slow to figure it out, shush, literally no one told me it was an option for the first twenty some-odd years of my life. This is the first time I read a depiction of a QPR, presented as equal to romantic relationship, or in main characters, or in adults, and it undid me. The idea? That you could not be so irreparably broken that you could be enough for someone even if you couldn't give them romance? That you didn't have to play third-string behind the real important family and romance relationship? That you weren't inherently tragic? That you weren't inherently lesser? That you weren't inherently broken? Was a lot? Also it was funny?

Don't Hang Up Now, I'm Not Done, by teahound (@tea-with-veth). The first tubbo-centric fic I read and then I was deeply disappointed to find how difficult it was to find anything that even remotely measures up. But I loved the relationships in this so much, it basically punted me into beeduo fandom. Now I have 20k+ channel points with both tubbo and ranboo (and tubbo alt), and whenever they show up in fic I cheer for my boys.

Hush Now (You Were Lost but Now You’re Found), by @corpse-art. You know when you read something and you're like "oh, this is what everyone else is trying to do with the genre". So absolutely beautifully written and conceived and plotted, sent me down a rabbit hole of superhero AUs which mostly did not measure up, I adore it. The reveal of information is so obviously intentional and crafted? We have learned so much and still actually know so little? It's a masterwork? The intentionality of it all?

the trinkets and the treasures we brought back from the crusades, by Odaigahara (@droidofmay). Absolutely beautifully-done world-building and characterization in a one-shot where one character is only there via an ancient diary and the other person is dying. What one-shots want to be. I try to rec this and I lose my words and I am just grabbing people by the front of the shirt and yelling READ IT.

Bad Beat, by Bee_4 (@theminecraftbee). I do not understand how to play card games. I don't understand bluffing or card counting or the rules. But this managed to keep me absolutely on the edge of my seat for 10k words and then it sucker-punched me. HOW TO TENSION LIKE THIS I DO NOT KNOW.

Whatever Remains, However Improbable, by @7cxrhye. It is a fantastic mystery that made me forget to eat or get up from the computer for an afternoon (I was walking around making tea carrying my laptop with me), and also the author invited me to her discord server and I timidly joined and then I learned that fic discord servers are the best place on the internet, so it was noteworthy both ways. (This is just such a good mystery, you guys.)

Cataclysm, by thanotaphobia (blue000jay) (@thanotaphobia). Cataclysm my beloved, the reason I eagerly check the calendar to see if it's friday and sadly droop throughout the week. This is my favourite because it is an astonishingly good fantasy AU with politics where everyone is an unreliable narrator and so much is happening behind the scenes, and it is my favourite because it made me absolutely lose my mind in my desire to know what is going on and literally start a thirteen-page document titled "conspiracy document" tracking facts and alliances and theories, and it is my favourite because I actually got in on the ground floor and got to read this one from chapter one (I was the eleventh comment) and I was recommending it around from chapter one onwards because I knew it was going to be amazing and I was fucking correct, motherfuckers. Read Cataclysm.

uh... the only language other than English that i know is Koine Greek (as in, the specific Greek that the Bible's New Testament was oroginally written in) and it's a dead language, sooooo.......

Big Finish Doctor Who! (tho tbh i think back when i was 11/12 i wrote some random self-insert stuff for whatever little fandoms i was in back then 😅)

ohhh i can't choose? usually i'm just most partial to whatever i've most recently written, which right now is for the bad decisions that we made. i think one of my Gallifrey fics, In The Drift, is definitely high on my list of favorites though.

Ah, I will hug you through the screen! And it’s not weird at all! I’m very goal-oriented, and it definitely helps me to see things written out (even if it’s in point form and a little bit jumbled). I super care about the plotlines. It’s honestly my favourite part about your works. I initially found you on Archive, but it was mostly the one-shots and side stories you posted, and I had to know the whole story. I’ve never seen another sickfic writer carry on a plot as you do. In my opinion, it makes the stories much more satisfying. Not to say that I don’t appreciate the one-shots. They’re such a fun way to explore different scenarios without having to derail the main story. I’m just (unfortunately?) the type of person that gets bored when there isn’t more going on. So kudos to you! I’m sure it takes no small effort to create such a complex universe with so many moving parts and keep it flowing smoothly the way you do.

Omg I haven't updated Ao3 in a hot minute. And you're dead right, I've only really uploaded the one-shots over there, since I so badly want to edit and improve the quality of the main storyline before I add it over there. I'm so delighted you came here though, after reading the Ao3 stories!!

I loooove plot in whump/angst/sickfic. I only ever really get that "whumperfly" feeling from a fic when I know the character and their place in the story. I also feel like it's cool to see whump/sickfic characters doing regular stuff, being chill, being a badass etc., because it hits even harder when they're sick, or hurt, or sad.

I keep saying this but thank you for your lovely comments, you've no idea how badly I needed to hear something like this.

Headcanons about the Andrew( and the foxes) figuring out some of the fucked up things Neil’s mom did. Like I’ve always had a head canon that she is the reason he says he’s fine all the time

for sure! I have a lot of feelings about Mary Hartford. I want to say that if the conversation does ever manage to come up, Neil would immediately jump to his mother’s defense. We see everything she did through his memories of her, and while we can recognize it as abuse, Neil still thinks of her fondly. She was the only family he really had, and in his eyes, everything she did was out of necessity, if not love (CW: abuse)

(side note, I’ve briefly talked about aaron’s reaction before as part of a different post, and I stand by that. I’ve also brushed upon the subject of Mary and Neil being “fine” when I did a sort of sickfic hc!)

let me just start by saying how awful this news would be for the foxes. Like, it’s awful in general because what she did was fucked up, but their poor hearts… They managed the Nest. They managed Baltimore. They managed Drake (although that was Andrew’s past not Neil’s, they were still there for the murder and everything that followed). They have been through heartbreak after heartbreak for this kid who not only went through these things but thought, on some level, that he deserved them. So they really can’t take finding out that his mother—who Neil openly condones—is also one of his ghosts. They can’t take finding out that she’s partly the reason why he doesn’t swing, why he can’t trust, why he runs and hides and lies, why he doesn’t think he can have this. And if that wasn’t hard enough, to find out that Neil thinks this is okay, that this is fine—it’s too much to handle.

Andrew’s first reaction, predictably, is murder. This doesn’t quite work out for him, as Mary’s already dead, but the urge he feels to drain the life from her himself is frankly concerning. The second the words are leaving Neil’s mouth, the second all his suspicions are confirmed (because let’s be real, Andrew knew someone had hurt Neil, and his father had been too many steps behind him to cause that much damage), he sees red. Full on, knives out, burning rage. He’s shaking with it. You can tell he’s feeling an emotion, because he’s not grumbling about anything. He’s gone into quiet rage, the dangerous kind, in which he silently plots all the ways he can gruesomely arrange your departure from existence.

for a split second, the upperclassmen think that his anger is directed at Neil, and they subtly move in to block him from Andrew’s war path. This works out well for no one, because Andrew needs Neil in his line of sight right now to know he’s safe and here, and anyone who even thinks of touching this boy after what he’s just confessed to happening to him is getting stabbed. Repeatedly. It’s not their fault for assuming, though. They saw what happened with him and Aaron after this sort of thing, and they just want to shield Neil from that fallout. He’s been through enough

The only thing that manages to calm him down even somewhat is Neil himself. He holds Andrew’s gaze, doesn’t hide under it. He looks him straight in the eye. He is fine, now. He isn’t hurt. He’s with Andrew, and Andrew is going to keep him safe, and Mary is dead, and there’s nothing for them to fight anymore.

except there is, there is, because Neil is stupid. Neil is an idiot who doesn’t know the meaning of the word fine, who has never been fine a day in his life. this was never okay. he’s worse than Aaron, because at least Aaron came to his senses eventually. but Neil, even after everything, is still standing there, defending her. it makes his blood boil. 140%. 170. 200.

Later, Andrew has to physically restrain himself from pulling him into a bruising kiss. He makes a tangible effort to be as gentle with Neil as he can, because he refuses to show him that love should be rough. It shouldn’t. He holds Neil’s hand and kisses his knuckles, runs his hands softly through his hair. He shows him all the way touches should feel when coming from someone you trust. Neil thinks it isn’t necessary but he accepts it with a stuttering heart anyway. His hands shake.

Aaron is seething, but for an entirely different reason. He’s furious, because how does Neil not realize that they’re the exact same? Neil gave him so much shit when he was upset over his mother, but now he has the audacity to stand here and spout this crap? The only thing holding him back from beating the shit out of Josten himself is Andrew’s presence, radiating wrath from beside him. If he took a step in the wrong direction, his brother might genuinely kill him this time. It doesn’t matter. Neil went on and on and on about how Andrew was protecting him, how his mother was not someone who loved him but someone who hurt him, and how he should be glad she’s gone. And… and then this? No. No. Neil doesn’t get to love his mother after that. Mary hit him. She beat him to a pulp herself, nevermind what she said she was protecting him from. He wasn’t allowed to have friends, to talk to people, to go outside. He wasn’t allowed to speak. He’d had to keep his head down. Yeah, it sounds familiar. It sounds like Aaron’s quiet footsteps around the house, hoping to god he wouldn’t wake up Tilda. It sounds like him trying not to make himself seen when she came home after a night of using, like ducking his head and not meeting the eyes of her or anyone she brought home. It sounds like her fists on him when she was in one of her moods. It sounds really fucking familiar, and if Neil thinks he’s going to drop this, he is dead wrong.

Neil did not leave well enough alone when it was Aaron. He would not stop rubbing salt on the wound. And it hurt, a lot, but now Aaron is going to do the same. Not just for petty vengeance. Not just because Neil is a dick and this is payback. But because it helped. Aaron and Andrew are not on the same page about the way they feel, but they are about what to do next. Priority one is make sure Neil moves on, make sure he recognizes why Mary was wrong, and why it will never happen again, as long as any of the foxes have a say in it. 

Matt and Nicky have the exact same reaction, which to immediately have their heart shattered. They’re in tears. Matt cares about Neil so, so much, and I know the fandom recognizes this, but I don’t know if people realize how deeply Nicky cares, too. It’s more than just cracking jokes; Neil is one of Nicky’s best friends. They’re going to make damn sure that Neil knows they will love him unconditionally, and that their love does not come heavy-handed. They will support him through this, even if they hate Mary for everything she had conditioned into him. Already they’re planning what they can do to get his mind off of this and get him smiling again as soon as possible. Nicky will probably push Neil harder than Matt, and it will probably be the wrong thing to do, but he’s trying so hard. He’s done this before, with Andrew and Aaron, and as heartbreaking as it was, he continues to do it because he loves them. And he loves Neil, too. Both Matt and Nicky already have adoption papers at the ready, and at this point they’re going to forge the signatures, consequences be damned, if it means Neil gets a happy life. 

Kevin doesn’t have much to say about it when he finds out. I imagine he handles it with all of his usual finesse and sensitivity, which is none. He probably, not too gently, points out that Mary had a job to keep him safe from harm, all harm, and failed spectacularly at it. It’s not exactly helpful, but he does have a point. And when he get Neil alone, he offers to talk to him about it. He may not have been through the same thing, but he’s been through something similar enough. He had no family at the Nest, but at the same time they were the only ones he had, and they weren’t exactly gentle with him at the best of times. Riko and the Master weren’t Mary, but... they weren’t all that different, either. Like everything else, Kevin is there if he needs him. 

Dan and Allison stare him down. They sympathize, they do, because this is awful, but they are not going to give him an inch. They don’t have time to coddle his feelings about his mother, and god help him if they hear an “I’m fine” fall from his lips. They’ll hold him, if he lets them, and they’ll be as soft and gentle as he needs, but they won’t give in to this. They aren’t going to pretend that he’s right–he’s not. HIs mother wasn’t what he remembers. She’s a complicated character. They’re not calling her evil; maybe she did what she had to, and maybe it was for the best. But it wasn’t right. They are steadfast in that. It wasn’t right. Neil can accept that when he’s ready, and when he does they will be there for him, taking care of him in their unassuming way so that he doesn’t feel like they’re walking on eggshells. He’s so grateful to have them. Grateful that they don’t push, but don’t give in either. Some of the strongest people he’s known…

Renee is the one who actually talks him through it. All the others are ready with their pitchforks, about to burn Mary at the stake, but she understands. She walks with him through everything, the good and the bad, and lets him come to his own conclusion. She listens to him when he feels like talking about what is was like, and talks about her own mother when he doesn’t. She shows him, subtly, what a parental figure is supposed to look like through her own stories. Lets him realize that sometimes the people who care don’t get it right, but that there are still others who love you, and that love doesn’t have to come with pain. 

Bonus:

(Ik you didn’t ask, and this is probably too long already, but) Wymack and Abby find out about this indirectly, likely through either Andrew or Matt. Wymack had known from the beginning this would have been the case, but he’d had no idea it had come from his mother. It hurts him, that no one had ever been careful with Neil the way he needed. He doesn’t realize that he had been, though. Wymack hadn’t raised his voice, hadn’t made himself big in front of Neil. He had been careful to keep his anger far, far away and had always been there when Neil needed him. Wymack is his true father. Or mother. Or whatever. 

Abby does what she does with Aaron: she gives him space. She knows that he’s probably never seen a woman in a comforting light before, and she waits to make sure that he’s okay with her presence before she gets anywhere near close to him. She lets him come to her, and, like Wymack, makes sure Neil knows that if she ever gets frustrated, that she would never take it out on him. They start the very slow process of showing Neil what it is like to be loved and cared for by someone who wants only to see you happy. Neil loves his family so, so much. He would choose them a thousand times over.

Hi it's that Donald Blake au anon, and I agree I don't like Donald in general it's weird and sometimes in the comics he has a stick that he's always holding onto then he bangs it and somehow becomes Thor, idk. But the au is something that really interested me cuz it has so much potential, like is Thor an Avenger in this au, does he have to wait til Loki is not looking to go and save the world? Or is he not worthy yet and somehow choosing to reveal himself to Loki the real way to be worthy?

Yeah, I’m kind of glad the writers and directors decided to leave out the whole “mild-mannered human alias” from the Thor franchise. Really, so many superheroes already have alter egos—Peter Parker is Spider-Man, Ryan Reynolds is Deadpool, literally every single one of the OG Avengers except Thor has another name—that for once it’s nice to just have Thor be Thor.

But as far as that brilliant idea you pitched, in the first couple drafts of my answer, I actually started to rewrite Thor (2011) to make your idea fit with canon. However, after getting stuck a couple times, I started thinking it might work better away from canon (specifically Earth 616), more like a true alternate universe, no Avengers or Thanos or anything. Or, to make things simpler, it could just be a Porn With Feelings deal where the story is driven by characters and drama (and, of course, porn).

For the PWP approach, Thor masquerades as an MD on Earth because he genuinely likes to help people and having a human form helps him escape detection, or possibly keep his powerful electromagnetic radiation field from harming humans. In any case, Loki is unaware of his brothers super-secret human identity.

Somehow Loki bites off more than he can chew or pisses off the wrong supervillain—it’s practically his hobby, isn’t it?—and ends up getting his ass beaten and thrown to Earth. Miraculously, Thor (as Don Blake) is there to help him, and Thor can’t risk getting his cover blown, so he just plays along while Loki regains use of his limbs and/or powers (a perfect opportunity for some hurt/comfort whump sickfic type tags). Thor brings Loki to his apartment until he can fully recover, and in that time, Loki finds himself bonding with this disabled and good-natured human man who reminds him so much of his brother… and thus begins the forbidden romance and angst-ridden relationship drama.

...okay, so the PWP setup actually has a lot more plot than your average smutfic. (But just think of all the opportunities for medical kink in this one. Like Loki pretending he feels hot and achy and insisting that Blake give him a thorough, private exam… on the kitchen table… with stethoscopes and tongue depressors and lots of poking and prodding and pelvic exams. Anyone? No? Just me?)

The actual canon setup is the one I tried (unsuccessfully) to write out, but here’s a bullet list of the basic plot (get comfortable, this gets kind of long):

After defeating the frost giants in Norway in 900-something, Odin secretly makes a deal with Laufey to raise Loki as his own son, then marry him off to Thor so they can establish everlasting peace with Jötunheim (just like Odin and Frigga did to stop the Æsir-Vanir war). Thor and Loki’s children will be heirs to both royal houses. Upon Thor’s ascension to the throne, Odin will then return the Casket of Ancient Winters to its rightful place, and Jötunheim will flourish again with Asgard as its protector/ally

Loki is a lot more autonomous and independent than his original cinematic depiction, traveling the realms to learn seiðr and be an ambassador (and cause mischief, naturally, but nothing that can’t be fixed or used to his advantage). He’s always held a secret torch for his brother but knows there’s little/no hope of it ever being reciprocated, thus he stays away from Asgard as much as possible

Thor loves and misses his brother (perhaps too much). Their parents would surely disapprove of their relationship, gods or not, and besides, Loki is too much of a free spirit, a wanderer, content with his own company. Asking anything more of him (like a grounded, committed relationship) is something Thor could never do

Loki returns to Asgard on the eve of Thor’s coronation with gifts and smiles, and Thor embraces him with deep affection. They almost confess their feelings to one another, but shy away at the last moment (damn!)

Meanwhile, Malekith the Accursed (comics version Malekith, who is a lot sexier and generally more interesting/diabolical than his MCU counterpart) doesn’t like that Laufey is planning to make peace with Asgard and sever his alliance with Svartalfheim, and somehow breaks into the Vault on Thor’s coronation day just so he can frame Laufey and sour the arrangement with Odin

Odin decides not to act, sure that something else must be going on. Loki decides to take the intellectual route and do some investigating while Thor and his warrior companions sneak into Jötunheim to kick some ass

Thor accuses Laufey of wrongdoing, just as Malekith wanted, and almost incites a war with the frost giants. Odin banishes him to earth to live as a disabled human man until he can learn some humility

After much screaming at the sky and manly weeping, Thor finally accepts his fate and his new human identity

Enough time passes (months? A year?) that Thor eventually learns to be humble and considerate, helping other humans physically and emotionally in the medical field (I imagine him becoming an orderly at a local hospital since being a doctor requires years of education and money. Also, being thrown to Earth without a penny to his name will help Thor work through some of his entitlement and privilege issues. I headcanon he was aided by some good-hearted humans who were able to find employment for him and a place to stay, help him get on his feet, basically)

With Thor out of the way and the royal family torn apart, Malekith begins preparing for his attack on Asgard

Loki doesn’t know that Thor is trapped in a human form, only that he was banished and all contact forbidden. Loki is suspicious of the frost giants and goes to Jötunheim alone, where Laufey reveals everything to him—including Loki’s betrothal to Thor

Loki is stunned at first, unable to believe that the thing he’s wanted most was always meant to be his, and he hurriedly leaves Jötunheim

He tries to sneak to Midgard without using the Bifrost, but Malekith catches him en route and they fight. He throws a binding spell on Loki to render him powerless and then beats the living daylights out of him

Loki crash lands on Earth not far from where his brother was banished (he had been following the last known path from Asgard to Midgard), and is rendered temporarily powerless and amnesiac, not remembering anything about his fight with Malekith, Thor’s banishment, or why he was on his way to Midgard

Loki wakes up in a hospital bed with a kind human man looking after him. After an unsuccessful escape attempt, he settles in and finds himself comforted by Donald Blake’s presence. It’s… soothing, somehow familiar…(maybe it’s the drugs talking)

Thor instantly recognizes his brother but he cannot reveal himself, either because he’ll look insane/lose his job or maybe Odin made it so he’s unable to even speak the name “Thor” until he’s worthy again. In any case, Thor decides it won’t hurt to beat Loki at his own game just this once (Loki has played this prank on him more times than Thor can count). He ends up taking Loki back home with him once he’s discharged from the hospital

As his memories and powers slowly return, Loki is surprised that Blake listens to and believes everything he claims to be, and soon grows to trust and even like the man. He’s never really had a true friend before… except for his brother, Thor, of course. Blake reminds him so much of Thor…

While things gradually heat up between Loki and Blake-Thor, Malekith disguises himself as Loki (just as he did in the War of the Realms comic arc) and returns to Asgard. Odin and Frigga learn that Loki had indeed traveled to Jötunheim and confront their “son” about what he might have learned there

Not knowing it’s actually Malekith they are speaking to, they reveal the truth about Loki’s parentage and upbringing, and the reasons for his betrothal. Malekith is shocked, then amused at his good fortune. He decides to use this information to his own advantage

Malekith plots to bring Thor back to Asgard and insist that they be married at once. Thor will be crowned king, and when Thor finishes swearing his oaths, Malekith will steal Gungnir and kill Thor with it (and the entire royal family of Asgard). He will then steal the Casket of Ancient Winters, return to Jötunheim, kill Laufey and all the rest of his clan, and then head to Midgard to finish off the last of that bloodline: Loki. Then, with the power of Gungnir, Mjölnir, and the Casket of Ancient Winters, nothing will be able to stop him from bringing war and chaos to the Nine Realms

My brain is smoking and on its last cylinder right now, and I know this post is already decades long, so I’m gonna cheat and skip the whole part where Thor and Loki somehow learn about Malekith’s plot (maybe the Warriors Four come to Earth to warn them), and Thor becomes worthy again, revealing himself to a stunned Loki, and they all go flying back to Asgard, beat Malekith in an epic battle, and save the day

Once the dust has cleared, Thor is crowned king to an audience of Æsir and Jötnar, followed immediately by his and Loki’s wedding. Everyone cheers, Volstagg weeps and uses Fandral as a handkerchief, and Malekith gets a tiny slice of the wedding cake down in the dungeons

happy ffwf bethany :) how did you get started in whump? what are some of your favorite fics (that you've written and that others have written)?

Hey! Thanks for asking. I’ve always been drawn to whump and hurt/comfort dynamics in fiction, but Marvel is the first fandom where I’ve written primarily hurt/sick character stories. For why... I don’t know what to tell you exactly. I just like the format of hurt/comfort fics and how more whump = a more satisfying comfort pay out, and I’ve always found medical themes really interesting to read and write about.

As far as my own whump stories go, here are two faves:

The Five Times Peter Denies an Illness or Injury + the One Time He Doesn't

In which Peter is a little shit who can't admit when he's hurt or sick.

^^One of the first fic ideas I ever had for irondad and I liked showing how Tony’s relationship with Peter progressed over time from awkward childless mentor to mildly overprotective father figure

Trick or Treat (or Traumatize) (collab with @awesomesockes)

Peter is thrilled when he finally gets permission from Tony to throw a spooky celebration at the compound for the team. Unfortunately, wherever the Avengers are concerned, things never go quite to plan.

Or, in which Hulk destroys a mannequin factory, Tony gets sued by his boarding school childhood rival, and Peter accidentally chops off his own finger.

^^I like this story quite a lot, even though it didn’t get much response (possibly because there were so many other Halloween fics being posted around that time?). Anyway, I love the team dynamics and Peter’s pranking coming back to bite him in the butt. 

Plus, Peter literally chops off his own finger so like, what’s not to love

So when he wakes up one night in the midst of the worst asthma attack he's suffered in almost eight years, neither he nor the rest of the team can think of a logical explanation. And everything sort of goes downhill from there.

(Set in an Alternative Universe where Peter moved into the Avengers’ Tower following the events of The Amazing Spider-Man.)

1:  If you’re an author, how many WIPs do you currently have? (Be honest!) I don’t currently have any that are “in progress.” If I fill a prompt, I lowkey have to finish it in one sitting, or I will never look at it again, lol. I do have a few prompts I really want to write, though! 

10:  Mutual pining or enemies to friends to lovers? Both? If you asked me this, say, five years ago, I wouldn’t even consider enemies to friends to lovers, but now? Hot damn. It’s the peanut to my butter. The ice to my tea. Still, you can never go wrong with pure, soft mutual pining. 

17:  Describe a fic that is still in the ‘ideas’ stage. Oh, I defiitely don’t have anything I’m 100% committed to writing, BUT I just binge read this web comic last night that I forgot about. It’s called Icy Copper, and a general concept is a child of the sun type character getting lost in a a really cold, frozen over place. And my heart is HERE for it. I love the idea of opposing elementals falling in love. (I think the web comic might go BL actually with the child of the sun and another guy from the icy place, but I’m not sure yet!) 

18:  Do you have a fic reading/writing routine? Fic reading literally consists of me scrolling the “Sickfic” tag on AO3 right before bed, finding a fic that sounds bomb af, opening it, then going to bed, lmao! I spend more time reading summaries then reading fics, I swear. My best fic writing is when I read a prompt, ponder over the plot while in the shower (lmao), then get out of the shower and bang it out. I know that I’m completely invested into what I’m writing when I completely tune out all sounds around me.

21.  Who is/are your favourite character(s) to write?

YOU ARE MEAN xDD I STILL HAVE ISSUES PICKING A FAVE!!! I do this every time, I end up just picking an answer just so I don’t have to go through the rigmarole of explaining how I love and appreciate so many things - it’s happened with favourite colours, favourite numbers, favourite bird, favourite element, favourite shape, favourite Tracy!!!

I struggle with choosing one of anything xDD I have a contrary nature, even against myself it seems lol

I guess........... Gordon is my fave to write? Maybe? You know I love John cos I can high five the physics out of him, but Gordon is really fun with the banter that he rolls with. But Scott is also fun... And EOS, oh my WORD EOS is fun to write..... and so is everyone else, look this question is impossible for me ahaha

22. Who is/are your favourite pairing(s) to write?

*insert more yelling here* I’m pretty sure I’ve only written Gordon/Penelope from Thunderbirds in terms of ships.... But I do have a few I want to explore, and I have no issue with multishipping as WELL YOU KNOW xD But I struggle with writing romance because I have exactly zero experience in that department lol, it’s all me making stuff up and rolling with it :P When I want to draw on my actual experiences of romance, I write ace John lmao hell if I know if anyone has ever flirted with me I am not wired to recognise that xD

44. How much research do you do?

*falls off her chair laughing* at least 80% of my writing is research, I have looked into all sorts of things that don’t ever show up :D The weirdest I can think of include details on the burn test for fabrics, coastal engineering and how beaches are formed, the reproductive habits of sea lice, the pole stars of different planets, and the effects of serum sickness following the administration of an antiserum which - the next time I need to throw a Tracy under the bus with a sickfic - Virgil is ready for me xD

45. How much world-building do you do?

very little, what is a setting :D Actually, I don’t really understand what world-building is so safe to say I probably don’t do much of it. I let the universe I write stories in shift fluidly to suit my needs and so having a heavily constructed world would get in the way of that. I try to keep it consistent within a fic, but because of that constant shift, I don’t like to get attached to the world of any one fic and so let it grow organically around the plot and characters. No idea if that makes sense but oh well!
