hi! i tried to use your google search tips to find this but couldn't! i'm looking for a peter parker fic where he's slowly dying from the radiation poisoning of the spider bite. he gets weaker/throws up a lot and starts losing his vision. he runs away from home to die alone and not be a burden but i think tony finds him. thank you so much <3

i'm trying to find the story, but if it helps, i'm pretty sure it's a follow up story someone made to someone else's fic about peter just disappearing. and the follow up you find out that someone (ned?) had died of cancer from being around peter so much and that's how peter found out he was so radioactive

happy ffwf bethany :) how did you get started in whump? what are some of your favorite fics (that you've written and that others have written)?

Hey! Thanks for asking. I’ve always been drawn to whump and hurt/comfort dynamics in fiction, but Marvel is the first fandom where I’ve written primarily hurt/sick character stories. For why... I don’t know what to tell you exactly. I just like the format of hurt/comfort fics and how more whump = a more satisfying comfort pay out, and I’ve always found medical themes really interesting to read and write about.

As far as my own whump stories go, here are two faves:

The Five Times Peter Denies an Illness or Injury + the One Time He Doesn't

In which Peter is a little shit who can't admit when he's hurt or sick.

^^One of the first fic ideas I ever had for irondad and I liked showing how Tony’s relationship with Peter progressed over time from awkward childless mentor to mildly overprotective father figure

Trick or Treat (or Traumatize) (collab with @awesomesockes)

Peter is thrilled when he finally gets permission from Tony to throw a spooky celebration at the compound for the team. Unfortunately, wherever the Avengers are concerned, things never go quite to plan.

Or, in which Hulk destroys a mannequin factory, Tony gets sued by his boarding school childhood rival, and Peter accidentally chops off his own finger.

^^I like this story quite a lot, even though it didn’t get much response (possibly because there were so many other Halloween fics being posted around that time?). Anyway, I love the team dynamics and Peter’s pranking coming back to bite him in the butt. 

Plus, Peter literally chops off his own finger so like, what’s not to love

Given that over the course of the past eleven months Peter Parker hasn't contracted so much as a head-cold, the teenager thought it safe to assume that the whole 'irradiated spider bite' gig had equipped him with an immune system of steel that rivalled Captain America's.

So when he wakes up one night in the midst of the worst asthma attack he's suffered in almost eight years, neither he nor the rest of the team can think of a logical explanation. And everything sort of goes downhill from there.

(Set in an Alternative Universe where Peter moved into the Avengers’ Tower following the events of The Amazing Spider-Man.)

i haven't finished little weirds yet but jenny slate is so imaginative and creative-- i love reading about her world from her unique perspective. do you have a favorite essay of hers?

i adore the essay about her mother showing her a honeysuckle plant & smelling it with her. it was such a small moment in her childhood but i love how carefully she wrote about it and how she recognized that it was an act of kindness

2. Anything that you'd like to write but feel like you're unable to?

There is an idea that I’m not sure i have the skill to write to a standard I’d feel comfortable with posting it. I’m hoping I will one day though (like a year from now, it’s a long way off). It’s about abuse and I feel like fandom in general isn’t great with that so I want to write something to combat some of those. But it is a sensitive topic, and this story would be extremely personal to me because of the inspiration drawn from my own life. It’s also a very pointed ‘fuck you’ to the harmful tropes that fandom likes to use, in that i use the trope I hate and write it in a way that shows that it doesn’t have to be sexist/racist/etc. And working on it has been personally helpful, so it’s a little bit of a ‘vent fic’. The trope isn’t necessarily the problem, it’s what people do with it.

In theory I want ppl to read it, so I also feel like I have to put out enough fic for people to trust me not to engage with the harmful stuff that 99.99999% come with that trope. And that’s a lot to ask from readers, so i have to really earn it first.

3. How would you describe your writing style?

“Too wordy.” But besides that. Hm. Not sure I’ve written enough to have a defined ‘style’!

Hey! Thanks so much! For a trope I’ve never but would like to... ummm.... I have a time travel fic idea that’s been shelved for a while, but I still think could be really fun if I ever work up the nerve to actually write it.

For the second question, I really don’t think there are any tropes I can definitely say I’d never read. There are plenty of tropes I’m not too fond of and generally avoid, but for pretty much all of them, I can think of at least one exception I’ve read and enjoyed. Never say never kids.
