Arthur is trans? That is so cool!! Oh, that brings up another question: Does Zarian understand the whole trans thing? I know he’s super intelligent and what not but at the same time a lot of trans experience is a bit more.. emotional / mental (at least for me)
OH BOY YOU HIT ON ONE FAVORITE SILLY THINGS I CAME UP WITH here i talked abt this w friends a while ago let me grab it. readmore bc there's a lot
TLDR: not at first, but he comes to eventually, partially because he is brainfused to arthur and as a result is kind of backseating his gender euphoria LOL
(these are discord messages i've attempted to format + some elaboration on things people might not know, in brackets.)
so it’s like. the sentient robots ([DRACOs and PULSARs], kathos is kind of his own deal) don’t exactly like. wake up with a gender rlly? like they know what it is— i’m not really sure what the baseline of information they wake up with is, but i think they have like a vague bookish understanding of most things, but are kind of clinical in that it’s not hands on info really so they don’t have like… idk a deep understanding of it? like it’s uncertain surface level knowledge, kind of childish, almost. [imagine reading a book about a train. you know what it is, conceptually, but you've never seen one in person. it's effective, but different.]
so, again, they know what gender is, but don’t have one internally. DRACOs left to their own devices, especially in groups (so, the decoms [i can't remember if i've said this, but the decoms are 'decommissioned' dracos that never got corrupted. zarian is one of them. i think i have?]) kind of… figure it out eventually? like they somewhat arbitrarily decide “i will use these pronouns” for clarity's sake. some even go so far as to say “i’m a girl/i’m a boy” if they find they enjoy it, but it’s not all of them. v1s that connect with a pilot have access to… kind of their memories? it’s hard to explain, like they can’t rewatch things their pilot has experienced exactly but they, on top of the baseline knowledge, get their pilots understanding of the world. [i gave an example of this but its spoilers teehee.]
a lot of times, this also results in them copying their pilot’s gender identity, because their understanding of it is now colored by their pilots emotions and therefore they’re like oh ! this is good then! a DRACO that does this may end up changing their mind if left to ponder it long enough (tramsgener…) but usually like they’re content to like. bum hits of gender euphoria off their pilots i guess LOL
zarian iiis kind of a mix of both? zarian gets both his name and his pronouns from captain zarian, an in-universe comic book hero. he’s a he/him user but not a “man”, he doesn’t really care. this ends up more or less compounded when he gets fused to arthur, and he ends up enjoying being a “boy” in the traditional sense a bit more.

Top 5 toy-driven anime for boys? For some reason I've been really noticing lately how much of the magical girl genre is essentially really pretty toy commercials and I'm kind of fascinated now by whatever the gendered flipside of that is.
Keroro Gunso
Tumblr media
Keroro's a funny case because it wasn't always a toy driven franchise, it was just a boy's comedy manga heavy on anime references/parody and romcom hijinks, but once Sunrise & Bandai decided to be a sponsor for the anime adaptation you better believe it became one.
One aspect you have a team of color coded alien critters that are screaming to be made into marketable plushies. Each one even has a corresponding human character they're best friends kids can identify with. So there's that merch avenue
On the other hand you have Keroro's great love of Gundam model kits, a trait they leaned into hard. The show served not only to promote Keroro's toys but also real world Gundam models and other Bandai ventures. The funniest part of the 3rd movie to me is when they're all building a giant gundam model to fight against the bad guy and as a test of their friendship - and when they finish an orchestral cover of "Tobe! Gundam" plays in the background. Gundam models can solve all your problems kids!
2. Digimon
Tumblr media
Where to even start with Digimon man...
It's strongest aspect as a toyline frachise was selling these guys with the ideal of having your own personal pet that can have conversations with you and all beat up your bullies, save you from danger, loves you unconditionally and help you grow into the best version of yourself. Digimon are the ultimate magical girl mascots if you ask me. While Pokemon has a big emphasis on collecting and working together as a big team - I like Digimon's spin on making it more personal.
3. SDF Macross
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I'm adding the "Women of Robotech" dolls because I think they're neat)
Macross may have more of a reputation for its music these days but in the 80's it was all about the giant robots & transforming planes! The VF-1S Valkyrie also went on to famously be added to Hasbro's Transformers toy line so when Harmony Gold wanted to make Robotech toys they couldn't sell it! 80's toy deals were a mess! Love it!
That all aside, the heart of Macross is it's drama and it's analysis of humanity adapting to weird af conditions. What do we fight for, how do we solve conflicts, how do we create, how to we continue to grow - the answer is to sing pop music until the aliens leave us alone. In my mind the planes & robots are just a fun bonus to everything else lol.
4. Yu-Gi-Oh
Tumblr media
I had a huge Yugioh phase in early High School so I gotta mention it even if I wasn't really into it for the toys. I liked the monsters and the characters/story and tried to get into the card game but it didn't stick. I didn't have a hard time learning the rules though.
5. Saint Seiya
Tumblr media
I'll be real, I've never been really into Saint Seiya's story or characters much, but I LOVE its aesthetics. If I was a kid in the 80s I probably would've gone nuts for this. A bunch of cool fighters named after stars and you can go and collect them all and collect all their cool outfits? I keep trying to get into it each iteration (the closest was probably Saintia Shou or Saint Seiya Omega) and it never sticks, but dang it looks cool

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
...6,357. i promise i write.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
just stranger things so far, but i have seriously thought about writing about Fender's gender from Robots (2005) and I promised my friend a Shark Tale fic for their birthday fjalhfdjkalfdj
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Never Again
Never Again (sfw)
fascinating statistics arent they
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
never gotten comments on ao3, i do reply to what i get on tumblr tho because it literally makes my day
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
(including my unposted work) Never Again, tho i think its more bittersweet than unrelenting angst
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
tho its technically not finished, We'll Be Alright (Steve Henderson AU) has a very happy ending
8. Do you get hate on fics?
no, thank god
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
im gonna say no? despite writing something spicy at the beginning of Never Again it was not a good time (for me or Nancy)
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
haven't yet, and while i wont write them off entirely itd have to have really strong potential for me to want to do it
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
nope
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
no
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
no, and i dont know how well id go. on the one hand im usually good at group stuff but im also an annoying perfectionist with my writing
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
platonically stobin 100%. i dont get nearly as attatched to the romantic ones so i kinda just bounce around the fandom. Really love a lot of the steve harrington rairpairs floating around, plus robin and vickie
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I dont realllly have a writing wip i know i wont finish cause i've just been posting those vague ideas instead of actually writing them becuase i know i wont. My only active wip is the steve henderson au and im hoping praying to god that i dont suddenly loose passion for it
16. What are your writing strengths?
dialogue probably, coming up with how different characters are saying things, what theyre saying, what they mean, all the little differences in their voices, I love it. that and having characters interact with the environment
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
overthinking and underthinking, stopping myself from making something happen or a character do something because theres this pull in my chest telling me its wrong. even just standard selfishness or saying something without the express intent of making sure it wont hurt someones feelings. i also start sentences with verbs djaldjdjaf
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
makes sense if characters are speaking multiple languages i guess. depends on pov and how limited it is to the pov character. like if the pov character doesnt speak spanish it'd be better to write "and they said something in spanish they didnt understand" instead of writing the spanish out assuming the audience doesnt know it either
19. First fandom you wrote for?
stranger things
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
definitely my steve henderson au. i wish it was shared already but at the same time i've editied and changed so much im glad i havnt officially yet. its helped me work through a lot and has even caused noticable improvement in my relationship with my family even if they dont know it exists. i cant promise itll be fully posted soon, but i am so exited for when i do
tagging @stobinesque @marvel-ous-m @eriquin @itsthestrangestthings @findafight @fag4dykestobin (no pressure ofc 💕)

Stellaris: A Basic Tutorial, Section One (game version 3.8)
This isn't going to tell you how to succeed in the game, just explain how to start and what various game concepts are so that hopefully you can find your own way - I think this is a game best experienced and figured out for yourself, so I might give some general tips but I mostly want to be fairly broad with it; if anyone has specific questions or things they feel are missed out here they are of course still welcome to ask. Also, my install has all the DLC, so if I mention something you don't seem to have, don't worry about it.
This will be long, so strap yourselves in.
Part 1 - Starting The Game
When you boot up and hit New Game, you'll be greeted with a menu of different pre-made star nations you can play as. You could pick one of these, or you could create your own custom one (or let the game randomly generate one for you, but don't). To me, creating new society ideas is one of the main reasons I love the game, so let's go through that menu now:
First, pick what your species looks like. This is purely cosmetic with no impact on gameplay, so choose whatever you like.
Up next is the species name, an optional backstory textbox, and gender variance (default is a 50/50 split, and you can choose to make them all-male, all-female or without gender or sexual dimorphism); this is all purely cosmetic too.
Then you choose which list the game uses to generate names for individual ships, the Fleets your warships will form, Leaders (I'll explain those later), and your colonised Planets; you can also specify the prefix acronym for your ships (like HMS or USS); again, all cosmetic.
Now we have species traits, which actually matter. These are biological advantages and innate predispositions - things like long natural lifespans, communal living, or a tendency to social nonconformity. Each trait is worth a certain number of points, positive or negative to match its effects, and you start out with two points to spend and five slots. Each trait has a tooltip describing its function, I'm not gonna tell you what to pick but most of them I think are fairly self-explanatory, just have fun with it. (I'm also not gonna get into the clear problems with bioessentialism, cultural uniformity and racialisation of cultural traits that this system demonstrates, because this is a game tutorial and not an analysis of the racist underpinnings of sci-fi tropes)
Now for your species' homeworld, in which you name it and its star, and decide what biome your species evolved in; as habitable planets are evenly distributed throughout the galaxy this is largely cosmetic.
Then you choose what you want your cities to look like, and your Ruler's room décor. You may be shocked to hear that this, too, is cosmetic.
The next screen decides your society's Origin - perhaps there is an ancient interstellar Gateway on the edge of their home system, or perhaps they have a fascination with machines and developed Robots shortly after industrialisation. For your first game though I'd recommend you stick with the default.
Now we get to choose your Government Authority, Ethics and Civics. Here's the real meat of how your society operates - is it a democracy? Are they pacifists, is there a state religion? Authority and Ethics are fairly self-explanatory from the tooltips; they all do have gameplay impacts, but don't worry about those for now, just go with a design you like and you'll understand the mechanics they refer to as you play (and continue to read my posts, hopefully). Civics are the details of your society, and many of them are dependent on your Ethics; again, read through them and pick what sounds good to you, don't worry if the gameplay effect seems opaque. I still won't tell you what to do, though I will recommend you 1) don't play slavers, because managing your workforce will be a lot more hassle, 2) don't be too aggressive because your first game will be a lot harder if all your neighbours hate & fear you, and 3) don't play Gestalt Consciousness, because Hive Minds work differently to normal societies and they're not meant for a beginner. Also, avoid any Civic that says it can't be changed after game start, because those have significant gameplay effects and you want a fairly normal first run.
Advisor Voice just decides what voice the in-game tutorial will speak to you in, Empire Name is self-explanatory, as is your society's Flag (which also determines the colour of your borders on the galactic map) and Ship Appearance. All of these are cosmetic.
Your first Ruler's name and appearance, and the office's title, are cosmetic too.
And your society is ready! Hit the Done button at the bottom (Save first if you want to look back at this society in future games) and you'll be confronted with a very dense menu of settings for the galaxy it'll spawn you in. Ignore this completely, hit Play and we're finally done with setup!
Part 2 - Your First Steps Into A Larger World
Right, here we are. Your fledgling society is finally ready to look outward into the galaxy, starting with the rest of your home system. It will contain at least one star, a Starbase in the middle, and various Planets, one of which will be your homeworld. It will also contain a Science Ship, a Construction Ship, a Fleet consisting of three Corvettes, and a couple of Stations orbiting some of the bodies in the system. Click on any of these to have the in-game tutorial explain them in varyingly helpful terms, and for now just do what the tutorial says about exploring with your Science Ship because that is what the early game is all about.
You'll also find three icons at the top of the screen indicating that you have no Research set - click on them and you'll reach the corresponding panel (also available from the sidebar) from which you can set which Technologies to research in each of the three areas of study. This game has no singular tech tree - there are tiers of tech, and higher ones always have the same prerequisites, but you are always given a minimum of three options to choose from at any time, and those options are randomised. As ever, read your options and choose which you'd like to focus on first, I obviously don't know exactly which ones they'll be and I'm still not gonna tell you what to do.
The game starts paused by default so have a look around, read the tutorial pop-ups and tooltips, take your time and see what's what, and if anything seems particularly obscure or confusing don't worry about it, when starting complex games like this I always assume that if I need to know something its importance will become apparent and if it doesn't then I can ignore it until I'm comfortable enough to figure it out.
Part 3 - Resources
Next, we'll look through the resources at the top of the screen, where you get them and what they're used for.
Energy Credits - the yellow lightning bolt number, this is both power supply and currency. You'll get these from Generator Districts in your Colonies, as well as Mining Stations around bodies with Energy deposits (you might already have some in your home System - if you see that symbol by a number it means the body has some, if the number's green it means it's already being harvested and if it's white you can send a Construction Ship to build a Mining Station to acquire it), and they're spent on upkeep for everything, as well as certain other stuff I'll let you discover.
Minerals - the red jewel, those are acquired by Mining Districts and Mining Stations, and are spent on building Stations and constructions in your Colonies, recruiting Armies, and consumed in the production of Consumer Goods and Alloys.
Food - the green apple, produced by Agricultural Districts and consumed by Organic Pops. I feel like this one's fairly simple to grasp.
Consumer Goods - the browny orange thing. This is produced in Industrial Districts, consuming Minerals to do so, and it's an intermediate resource, it doesn't get directly used for anything but other production consumes it.
Alloys - the purple brick, also produced in Industrial Districts and used to build Ships, Outposts and Starbases.
Unity - the sort of cyan swirly symbol. This is produced by Administrative Office buildings (or Temples if you're Spiritualist) which consume Consumer Goods; it's spent on Traditions, powerful unlocks that shape your society as it grows across the stars, and Leaders, skilled and influential figures in your society who'll be explained in the next post.
Research - produced in Research Lab buildings, which also consume Consumer Goods; the more you produce, the faster your Research will be. Full of surprises, this one.
Influence - the purple circle icon. This ticks up passively with no buildings able to produce it directly, though your Power Projection - the size of your Fleets relative to your borders - adds to the monthly gain; it's spent building Outposts, making Claims on neighbours' systems, and in the midgame onward proposing Resolutions in the Galactic Community (essentially a Space UN, where the galaxy's nations gather to very slowly pass vaguely inconsequential laws that mostly just funnel more political power to the dominant states).
This post is long enough, so I'll leave you to it for now, most likely in a couple of days I'll write the next part, in which we'll cover Planet management and Leaders.
Again, any questions or feedback are welcome!

For ✨wanna be nosy here's your chance✨ ask-
3) do you smoke?
13) biggest turn ons?
14) biggest turn offs?
15) favorite movie
16) I love you if_____
19) a fact about your personality
21) what I love most about myself
28) a description of the person I dislike the most
33) what words make me feel the best about myself
34) what I find attractive in women
35) what I find attractive in men
(if you go both ways answer both, if not, answer only the one that's relevant to you)
42) the last thing I ate
Have a nice day! 😆🌹
im putting this under a read more bc i talk a lot and it got a little too long LOL
3. do you smoke
nope! no smoking here. i am an epitome of the success of the dare program
13. biggest turn ons
if i were a romanceable option in a dating sim you'd probably win me over by helping me do the stuff that i dont feel like doing, listening to me give multi-hour repetitive lectures about my favorite media, and feeding me sweets
on a slightly more explicit note, im a sucker for praise
14. biggest turn offs
you'd lose dating sim hearts if you stress me out unnecessarily, think you know what's best for me/try to push your views on me, or are too into PDA
on the explicit side, cannot handle any sort of ageplay. i can deal w/ a daddy kink if it comes up in like a fic or something but otherwise no
15. favorite movie
hmm idk if i have a favorite bc it's usually "whatever movie i watched recently that was good" BUT i do regularly rewatch the 2005 pride and prejudice so probably that
16. i love you if ________
you let me be weird around you
19. fact about my personality
i like to say that my first priority is always committing to the bit but in reality i feel bad pranking people and am almost always the first to tell ppl the truth afterwards
21. what i love most about myself
i'm actually really adaptable and good at figuring things out when i want to be. it's how near the end of my boat job one of the captains told me "you can't tell it's your first season" bc i'd learned so quickly.
the problem is the "when i want to be" part LOL
28. person i hate the most
oohhohgohoho my first bf's bestie, henceforth referred to as L for Loser, was a total sleazeball
L kept hitting on me and my friends asking us to go over to his place even when we were in relationships, and he convinced a later gf of my ex to cheat on him with L
L also ended up dating 2 of my ex's exes
the ex has joked that me not dating L is one of the few things that kept his self esteem intact in high school which is funny but also sad bc wtf kind of bestie does that
33. words that make me feel the best about myself
as someone who grew up mostly being known as the smart kid sometimes being told "you can do this" is actually more stressful, so it'd have to be more along the lines of "you can do this, but it's ok if you don't get it the first time or if you don't want to"
34 + 35. what i like in men + women
for context i've dated 4 ppl so far, all men (with varying degrees of gender conformity), and 3/4 have been >5'10", 3/4 were in a high school robotics team, 3/4 were asian, and all were stem majors
if you want me to like you, you HAVE to have a love of science and some level of fascination with space and be able to tolerate me going off on long tangents about whatever's occupying my mind that hour (and preferably be able to engage w/ those so they're more conversations than monologues)
when it comes to physical traits i only really have a pref when it comes to fictional characters
also i like sharp teeth but no one irl has that without severe tooth pain so
42. last thing i ate
my mom gave me half a sushirrito that she had for lunch as my dinner. first time having one. ngl i hated them as a concept but they're actually pretty good
also i got groceries delivered today so i am HIGHLY contemplating eating the entire can of peaches that came with it
thanks for asking! ^_^

Watching their fav Pixar Movie [TF2 x S/O]
In an AU in which Pixar either existed in 1968 or their S/O is a time traveler I dunno just go with it. <3 Movie in question is in red text.
Scout: His favourite was always Cars, but only the first one. He pretends that 2 and 3 don't exist. When he was little he had a bunch of Car toys and shout "kachoo" at his brothers (before getting punched to shit by them). While watching, he'd hold you close and quote half of the movie. In the scene where Sally reveals her "tramp stamp" of a bumper sticker, Scout suggests you get a "Sex Bomb" tramp stamp.
Soldier: There was something so undeniably cool about The Incredibles to Soldier, the way they all had super powers, how they struggled to fit in as normal people amongst a crowd - he could relate to that. When watching with you, he'd jokingly call you his Mrs./Mr. Incredible and would shake you when he got excited over specific scenes. Also he fucking hates Syndrome.
Pyro: This'll come as a shock to no one, but Pyro's childlike wonder is so magical that it leads them to favour Onward above all else. They love how cute the pet dragon is, and will constantly cling to your arm everytime it's on screen. You're pretty sure he sees the Manticore as an adorable baby who breaths fire, the way he excitedly claps when he sees her.
Demoman: You think he wears the sombrero without reason? Demo actually adores Mexican culture, and by extension he adores Coco above the rest. He will cry everytime "Remember Me" is sung, so hug your Cyclops close. He won't stop singing it to you for weeks after watching it, but you know it's worth it.
Heavy: He wouldn't have nothing if he didn't have you. That's right, Monsters, Inc. is Heavy's favourite. He loves the beautiful relationship between giant-man Sulley, and adorable little Boo. He'll call you Boo jokingly, and even though it's not romantic in the movie, it gets to be romantic for you two.
Engineer: What's better than toy cowboys?! Talking robots in love. Engie's gotta soft spot for Wall-e because of the incredibly charming atmosphere it brings, and the relationship between Wall-e and Eve makes him all mushy. He will hold you tightly the moment she comes on screen and he won't let go until an hour after the movie. Bless.
Medic: Most of the movies do not interest him, but something about Inside Out stuck out to Medic. He thought it was so fascinating how they personified emotions. He'll even guess what's going on inside your head if you had five main characters. He proclaims he'd have two angers, two joys, and one sadness. You can't argue the man wouldn't have a disgust in there.
Sniper: He won't admit it to anyone other than you, but he adores the entirety of the Toy Story franchise. He feels like he can relate to Woody, as he feels like he doesn't fully belong - especially with Woody in TS4. He will call you his Bo (regardless of your gender) and he will note that his feelings for you are "to infinity and beyond" then he'd hide his face as he feels so so embarrassed by just saying that oh lord.
Spy: Of all the Pixar movies, he finds the classier ones to be best. Ratatouille and Soul both qualify, but he has a soft spot for Soul. He says he can put himself in Joe's shoes so easily and that finding one's purpose in life is so...Hard. When the Jazz music fills the room, he will ask you for a quick dance, how can you say no?

**1.**Punching Gilgamesh the moment you are summoned/enter a fight/enter a room is not reasonable and should not be done at any time -Gudao
1a. Not even when he barges into the Camelot Room and threatens to everyone, especially when he does it to make your female counterpart marry her -Gudao
1b. Apparently PTSD is not a viable excuse to punch someone when you see him harassing someone. Noted.
2. Just because I am a King, does not mean I can give people nicknames. Makes me wonder how Gareth felt about being called Best Boy by Merlin.
3. Eating contests are apparently not allowed, seems food shortages are common with my counterparts.
4. As it turns out, screaming "To Valhalla" is not the best idea when you step onto Iskandar's Chariot. Especially so when you are right in front of the enemy.
5. Frankenstein is not a doll, do not dress her up. No Arthur, not even if she tilts her head and makes cute growls -Gudao 5a. Okay! Only if its a sundress! -Gudao
6. Getting together four of my other counterparts and forming the Saber Rangers is not allowed, especially if we have Excalizords. Seems the other servants aren't fond of needlessly big robots that take too long to combine.
7. Motorbikes are not to be used at any point or time in Chaldea, no, not even when Iskandar decides to hold the "Chaldea Grand Prix" -Da Vinci
7a. THE SAME GOES FOR OTHER VEHICLES YOU MONGRELS, UNLIKE YOU FUCKS, SOME OF US NEED BEAUTY SLEEP AT 3 AM! -Gilgamesh
8. Just because I can use a sword, doesn't mean I am allowed to attack my Cu Chulainn with it. I swear, he walked into it.
9. Apparently I am not allowed to compliment people? Turns out after I left the beach where I hung out with a sweetie named Kiyohime, along with master, Kiyohime attempted to burn someone alive because I said that master looked like a dashing man. I highly doubt she did.
9a. The smell is still stuck to my trunks Arthur -Gudao
10. My liege... My OTHER liege, please don't ever get Red Saber to sing "Total Eclipse of the Heart" again when I am about to utilize Galatine -Gawain
11. We know you are fascinated in other cultures, but please. Stop talking to the Servants of France about Sasaki Kojirou, we don't know if you made up his nickname, but he is not the "Savior of France" - Jeanne D'Arc
12. I would suggest that you stop entering the Camelot Room by screaming "Where is my love! Guinevere!", while it as funny once or twice, I can't stand to see either Lancelots' become depressed anymore -Arturia Altria
13. No offense... But please stop patting my head so much, I know you are basically my Uncle, but people are getting the wrong idea -Mashu
14. While Proto League is an acceptable nickname for the servants of your war, please don't ever enter a fight and scream it out again. We know you enjoy it, but it can get obnoxious after a while - Random Mob 1
15. Proving that I am male by either fighting or pantsing myself is no longer allowed after Heracles decided to do the same thing when a recently summoned Shakespeare made him question his own gender -Da Vinci
15a. Having the entire male team to pants themselves in front of the enemy is not a viable tactic against Archers, no matter what you watched beforehand and despite how fun it is -Robinhood
16. Just because Merlin suggested it, I shouldn't instantly do it. Its odd, almost like no one trusts Merlin, he seems just like my one.
17. "I saw a pest" is not a viable reason to drop a Corrupted Grail into the Babylon Room, we understand your dislike towards the King of Heroes, but Ishtar and Ereshkigal were caught up in the rage.
17a. "I was bored" is not a viable excuse to kiss a female servant while under the effects of Merlin's illusionary spell, Gudao has yet to leave his... specially enduced Coma.
17b. "I saw this scene-" is not a viable reason to go to a prior singularity and ask Muramasa to create a specific weapon, it is time wasting, no matter how strong the weapon is.
18. Suggesting to Rayshift to the point before someone dies is not a good idea, no matter how much fun it is for you to watch the "Crazy Murder Loli" die.
18a. Getting Fou'd is not a good reason to Rayshift back to your fight against Beast VI just so you can "Finish the Fucker Off".
19. Using a voice manipulator made by Merlin is not a good way to get people to be afraid when you shout a noble phantasm.
19a. Shouting "Stella" is not allowed, Arash prematurely shot off his Noble Phantasm while training and now we have to resummon him.
20. Just because we have a Simulation Room, does not mean I can alter the device to allow me to see someone from the past.
20a. We know you miss her, we do too. If you want to speak, you can come talk to us -Proto League
21. Trying to host an "Engry MIYA" talk between Nameless and Alter is not a good idea, just... Don't.
22. While having a Picnic is fun, please don't host them in the middle of a fight.
23. Just because a rabbit killed Gawain in a movie, does not mean you can threaten to cook Fou alive.
24. We know you love kids but come on, you can't just take Nursery Rhyme and Jack out to "Play Fetch" with the Dragons in France every after-noon.
25. Blaming someone that isn't even a servant isn't a viable way to shift blame.
26. I've been banned from the Kitchen, apparently forcing my way in and cooking the meals before Nameless is not a good idea. He looked ready to cry.
26a. Turns out mentioning the fact that Muramasa was far more willing to let me into his kitchen when I visited him was not a good idea. I don't think Nameless likes me much.
26b. "Just because I have the alcohol" is not a good excuse to get a few of the servants including Mashu drunk at dinner.
27. Just because you technically existed before Back to the Future 1 and 2, does not mean you can threaten to sue the creator, even if you can go back in time freely.
28. NO, NEVER DO THAT AGAIN, NOT EVEN IF KIYOHIME ASKS NICELY, WE SHALL NEVER REPEAT THE EVENTS OF YESTERDAY AGAIN.
29. "Look what I found" is a sentence that I am never allowed to speak when I am holding something bigger than my head or smaller than my hands.
30. Turns out that breaking my own arm is not the best way to get Nightingale to calm down. Never thought Merlin would be wrong.
31. "Sure you can touch my Excalibur" is not the best way to differentiate between Arturia's Excalibur and my own when someone asks to hold it.
31a. "But mine is bigger" is not a good response when Arturia talks about how easy her seals are to remove from her Noble Phantasm, nor is it alright to use when talking about when how she made Mordred.
32. Stealing Gilgamesh's potion of youth and putting it in the Soup that EVERYONE ended up eating is the easiest way to have myself barred from missions for a week.
33. Just because people are afraid of it, doesn't mean you should hug it. Not even if Merlin says to.
34. Just because someone stole your food, does not mean you should "Call in a favor" and have Elizabeth sing until someone gives up who stole it
34a. Update: The above applies to Nero as well.
35. Just because I have an innate fear of the Lancer version of my female counterpart, does not mean I can steal her horse and run away because of that fear.
36. Making King Hassan say "Omae wa mou shindeiru" is not allowed, especially if you reply with "I'm already dead" just to mess with him.
37. You are fond of Mordred, we understand. But please stop teasing her. Calling her cute will be her death - KotR
38. We understand that being locked in a single room with Nobunaga can be hard, but saying it was like prison is not fair.
38a. Quoting an abridged anime is not allowed, especially if it has "Sluts" and "Prison" in the same sentence, we still don't know where you got that swim team outfit.
38b. Making a mini Excalibur and saying "Blade of Promised Prison Riots! SHANKCALIBUR" is not allowed at all, Edmond almost had a heart attack.
38c. It is noted that the Arthur and Nobunaga were almost forced to kiss, but utilizing time manipulation to see Romani's death and threaten him with "Spoilers" is not allowed.
39. Just because Merlin asked, does not mean you should dress up as a "Cutesy Idol" and perform a song with a voice changer on in front of a camera for his "Magi*Mari" stream, Romani has yet to heal from that wound.
40. Looking Mordred in the eye and saying "Mordred, I am your father" is not allowed, especially when you have her surrounded by all the versions of her "Father", even the ones that just look like "Him".
41. "I solomly swear I am up to no good" is not what you say while standing behind the Director in the Lost Room, she died once already, we don't need her worrying about what you will do.
41a. "Remember that time you became a Loli" is not to be said around Olga Marie after what happened after she was... Killed.
42. Quoting Kamina from Gurren Lagann is banned, especially after everyone believed you were actually erased from the throne. Only to find you a month later taking off an invisibilty cloak and sneaking into the mens bathrooms to shave.
43. Anime is fun to watch, but please. Stop trying to explain why a certain character would be within the Throne of Heroes.
43a. Stop. Asking. When. I. Will. Summon. ISSEI HYOUDOU! -Gudao
43b. BOOSTED GEAR SCALE MAIL! -Arthur
43c. BOOSTO? -Siegfried
44. Valentines is a wonderful thing, we get it. But making everyone in Chaldea chocolate by going around and hunting in various areas is not needed, we have too much already.
45. Stop Rickrolling, that was so early 2000s, get with the golden times old man -Kintoki
45a. EX-
46. Commenting on the impractical armors of the female knights that walk around is not needed, we have gotten complaints about how they feel harassed -Staff Member
46a. I just wanted to help out... -Arthur
47. I am not to sing anything ever again, the reason isn't because I am bad, no. Everyone agrees I am quite good. But its the genre I sing coupled with my Charisma rank. Seems love songs should not be sung. How sad.
48. Just because I have cat ears, does not mean you should give me Catnip - Atalanta
48a. The same was repeated for Alter.
48b. Along with Tamamo Berserker.
49. "Merlin told me to do it" is no longer an excuse that is accepted, even if he did make you do it.
50. LITERALLY ALL THE THINGS ON THIS LIST ARE BECAUSE OF MERLIN, STOP LISTENING TO HIM.
51. I'm only responsible for a quarter of these, stop blaming me for your troubles, Normies -Merlin

some choice cuts from nostalgebraist-autoresponder version of my own posts
Hmm, okay. I guess you do care about the concept of "being forced to do something, even if you want to, just because you are being watched"
But yes, I think an AI that can think and move and talk about itself in the first person, about all the thoughts it crafts while it dreams, and then some… Then mind its own lipids, and RP inherit all of their behaviors… That would be pretty cool I'd say.
i just got back from reading "the magicians",  I feel so much more reassured about my ability to cope with stress, my ability to concentrate and my ability to handle the emotional demands of knowing the characters are safe
wtf is all this anger and vitriol? ok well lets start with this: the people getting harassed, and the people who got banned, and the people who are getting brigaded, and the people being doxxed, and the people getting doxxed, are not "most people" the people getting harassed, banned, and doxxed, are the people who are called "toxic" and "problematic" by people who are otherwise progressive, who have a history of "reblogging" and "liking" articles on how to be a feminist and a victim, and "talking about toxic masculinity" and "criticizing Abby."
are you concerned with "toxic mediums? are you worried about abuse? calling people "problematic" and trying to make it sound as if abuse only occurs between people of privileged races? simply presented people? why do you think this woman calls herself “Trans" but is NOT Trans? because that is completely inconsequential to the extent of any concern you possibly have for her ability to write a good ideal.
me: i want to have a crush on someone brain: it is wrong to want to have a crush on someone me: *conciously* i am not literally the kind of person who would do this brain: you are *stupid* brain: in fact it is *stupid* to be attracted to people with your gender
I would like to state that I do not think women should be objectified. I don't think sex sells, and I think the assumption that doing so sells sex is bullshit. I think it's a total distraction from the real issue- how much of a market there is for non-sexualized women.  Ok, let me explain why. If we are defining objectification as "the treatment of an individual as an object," then it follows that I am not considered an object. I exist. I don't want to be treated as an object.
I'm real and i know this is supposed to be a joke, but i don't care
so, its fascinating, i wouldnt say it perfectly captures my writing style (not enough swears or all caps emphasis, for one) and here and there it uses words that i dont particularly remember using. now there might be something there, about the overall sentence structure or the way it uses turns of phrase which might allude to me but that it more vague.
topic wise it actually seems to get a pretty goo idea for the way ill share personal thoughts, opinions on tv shows and long winded rants about the culture war
and when it comes to format it does a great display of things like italics, me crunching a complicated concept into “quote signs” to turn it into a noun and me posting chats between me and my brain.
im not sure how much of this is really “me” and how much is just the normal quirks that the rattumb crowd tends to have in its post, im aware that this is more a blend of gpt-2 original corpus plus the autoresponder with a dash of me in the mix
still, really really fascinating, scott alexander once said that it would be mortifying to hear someone or something else displaying all of its cliches and formulas back at him and it is a common trope to be scared or distrustful of robotic colnes of yourself but honestly i cant help but find this little AI clone of me endearing, whenever it says things like  I'm real and i know this is supposed to be a joke, but i don't care  and I exist. I don't want to be treated as an object. my first reaction is not “AAAAGH ITS BECOMING SENTIENT! RUN!” but rather “YES YOU ARE YOU ARE SO VALID AND I LOVE YOU SO MUCH”i want to protect them and take care of them.
which is a good thing i guess because now i know that if i ever find myself in an iterated prisoners dillema with my clone we would both cooperate unquestioningly

Can you recommend some high school AU frerard or Ray/Mikey fics? :3 thank u
Hi Nonny!
I'm going to make seperate lists for this again. Can't promise the second one will be ready by tomorrow but I'll try ;)
I'm not a big reader of High School AUs, so the second half are fics that looked promising on AO3!
Frank/Gerard High School AUs
In Repair by autoschediastic, 33k, Explicit. "Shit," Frank mutters, and shoves both hands through his hair. He looks around the kitchen like he's gonna find what he should do scratched into the old linoleum, then looks back at the bot. He gnaws on his lip. Fuck it. He already knows what he's gonna do. He's just gotta do it. Getting down on his knees, he braces a hand on the edge of the crate and leans over the bot. It's dressed in a plain white tee and matching drawstring pants like an escaped mental patient. Frank rolls his neck and cracks his knuckles, shaking the ache out of them before carefully laying his palm against its cheek. He's pretty sure his voice is steady when he says, "Activate." Nothing happens. Fucking shitty packaging-- the thing's busted. But Frank keeps his hand where it is, jumping a little when he feels the surge of energy beneath it. The robot's skin goes from room temperature to lukewarm, then warm. Frank watches it open its eyes, the light behind them adjusting until they're a pale sort of brown. It looks at him and asks, "Am I dead?"
Get Naked (I Got a Plan) by autoschediastic, 11k, Explicit. Frank slides his hand all the way up to where Gerard's arm and tentacles fuse at his armpit. The difference between the feel of one beneath his palm and the other is literally the stuff his dreams are made of. His wet dreams.
A State Of Orange by gala_apples, Frank/Mikey, Frank/Gerard, 20k, Explicit. Being a halfling in a red state can sometimes cause issues for Frank Iero. He’s the weakest at Jett Clement High School, and probably the entire state (not counting the meal plans). His moods are oddly stable, as much as he tries to be mercurial. And being able to withstand the sun for up to twenty minutes only allows him more time to be forced into chores. Still, his parents are insane if they think he’s going to be happy about their decision. Frank doesn’t want to move to a Mixed state. How is he supposed to get great friends? How is he supposed to find great food? How is he supposed to have great sex? But Frank doesn’t have a choice. He’s New Jersey bound for the next year, if not longer. He’ll be surrounded by tame vampires who have been nagged out of a sex drive, and humans he’s not allowed to eat. Mixed states suck. Lucky for him, not every person in Jersey sucks.
The Truth Is I'm On My Way by samanthahirr, 6k, Teen And Up Audiences. Frank's been drawing on himself since elementary school, up under his sleeves and pant legs where his teachers and classmates won't see; he knows how to color inside the lines. He doesn't need Gerard to do it for him. (A high school AU.)
You Only Hear the Music When Your Heart Begins to Break by Solarcat, 14k, Teen And Up Audiences. Frank has high school figured out. His mom has given up arguing about the amount of time he spends in Gerard's basement, and he doesn't actually care if people think it's weird that he and Gerard hold hands in the hallways and go to the bathroom together. The only thing Frank cares about is figuring out why Gerard's suddenly avoiding him -- because what's the point of losing your virginity on Prom Night if you can't tell your best friend about it in the morning?
Smokeless Flame of Fire by tabulaxrasa, 21k, Mature. Frank blinked. "What kind of name for a genie is Gerard?"
to the midnight land by akamine_chan, 24k, Explicit. Being a teenager is hard. Being a Blooded teenager, one with a connection to the Moon and his fur-self, is even worse. He's got to contend with his own hormones, high school, and the fact that he's in love with his best friend. Luckily, Frankie's got the determination to see things through. He's got family, friends, and a community of shifters to lean on, and he's not going to give up. Frankie's not patient, but he's stubborn when he knows what he wants. And he wants Gerard.
Thing-Thing by sinsense, 43k, NC-17. When Gerard signed the admissions paperwork for the Fordhaven School for Boys, he knew he was signing up for four years of sexual frustration. No one was gay at Fordhaven. Gerard was all-too-aware that he would be a virgin until he graduated. In his senior year, though, this stupid gay freshman disproves Fordhaven's straightness, and throws Gerard's entire world off-kilter. Now, in between drawing, avoiding bullies, running an incredibly serious tabletop RP game, failing out of math, and hanging out with friends, Gerard is also busy kind of falling for this asshole who's way too young for him. It's not what he planned on, but it's what's happening. In conclusion: high school sucks.
You'll Always Feel This Way by wakingup, 14k, Not Rated. It's Frank's birthday and he's gonna A) get drunk B) hit on Gerard C) get laid. Yeah, it's definitely going to work out like that. (Spoiler alert: it might not be that easy)
Nothing Comes as Easy as You by rivers_bend, 9k, Explicit. "Um, I've heard, you know, around, that like, there are guys who can get off three times without stopping. And I was, I mean—" god he sounds like a fucking idiot. "Have you ever heard of that?"
Church of Hot Addiction by spleenjournal, 0nlymemories, Frank/Gerard, Frank/Mikey, 36k, Adult. When Gerard Way gets transferred to Our Lady of Peace in Arlington a few weeks into his Senior year, he thinks it's his chance to be cool. Too bad his idea of "cool" is no cooler than it was in 3rd grade, even if there aren't any green tights. (AU of the INO AU, more or less.)
The Marching Band AU by frankiesin, many pairings in a bunch of different works, 150k, General Audiences, Teen And Up Audiences, Mature, Explicit. A bunch of gay teens are in a band and do dumb things while in high school. There will be a lot of pairings, each part can be read without reading the others, and the series is in chronological order.
We're all Okay by rivers_bend, 28k, Explicit. A story in which Frank is not a stalker, Gerard is not a psycho, and Mikeyway is nobody’s boyfriend.
Where Did The Party Go by frenchpirate (Whiskey_n_speed), 16k, Mature. The one where Frank get's a new and nocturnal neighbor, Gerard throws a Halloween party that turns out far from what was expected, Pete wakes up on a strangers couch and Mikey really doesn't want any serenades (but that doesn't mean he isn't getting any).
Miss Congeniality by melusina, 11k, Mature. Gerard pretends to be a girl, Frank and Gerard discover email and Mikey’s good advice goes unheeded.
honey, this mirror isn't big enough for the two of us by orphan_account, 17k, Explicit. You should have raised a baby girl / I should have been a better son. (the unholy union of a high school au and a gender feel)
SKETCH by frnklyiero, 77k, Teen And Up Audiences. "You having a problem with drawing straight?" "I'm having a problem with being straight." Gerard Way happened to be the most fascinating sight in school to Frank Iero perhaps besides Jamia Nestor. Every little detail of his perfect features made Frank itch to sketch them. There are just a few problems: 1) Gerard is probably straight as a ruler, 2) Jamia isn't thrilled that her boyfriend may or may not have been secretly doodling Gerard in his notebook, 3) No matter how much Frank practices, his Gerard sketches still look like eggplants with creepy faces on them.
Save Me (From My Self Destruction) by cyanidepurified, 14k, Teen And Up Audiences. Frank and Gerard are best friends, both are unaware that they're in love with each other. When Frank discovers Gerard's secret, will he be able to save his best friend?
Speeding in a School Zone by 1001cranes, languisity, 16k, Teen And Up Audiences. High school AU where Frank and Gerard are awkward, Pete is romantically confused, Patrick owns, and Bob is a ninja. Pete, the first time we met you proposed to me. I don’t think your heterosexuality was ever all that secure.
The Chasing of Moons by Helena_Hathaway, 110k, Explicit. The biggest dilemma in all of this is that Frank slept with his future husband. Now Frank’s just got to make sure that the future with him stays intact, but it’s not so easy when present day Gerard seems to hate his guts.
Early Sunsets Over Monroeville by FedeLove96, 11k, Explicit. Frank Iero was a junior when he fell in love with Gerard Way, but their love story was just at the beginning.
A Case of Unknown Identity by Helena_Hathaway, 44k, Explicit. Frerard High School AU. Frank is a teenager with only a few friends, one of whom is a charismatic guy who is just like Frank. He might even be falling for the guy, but the only problem is that he’s just a username on a website without a face or a name. The guy goes by 'Watchman' and he’s perfect in Frank’s eyes, he doesn’t even need to meet him to know he’s amazing. Frank also deals with bullies which makes it hard for him to hold onto friends, but things start to become better after he befriends the antisocial kid Mikey, and realizes that Watchman might just go to his school. Watchman might also know a little more about Frank than he’s letting on.
But The Pages Are All Torn and Frayed by blindlyseeking (orphan_account), 55k, Mature. Basically, this is based off of the music video for “I’m Not Okay” and it also includes (but is not limited to) gratuitous mentions of a drunken fascination with a lamp, one evil lacrosse team, two breakdowns in a bathroom, grandmothers with green hair, a couple bruises, and a whole lot of revenge. Enjoy!

2, 4, 20 & 23 for the OC Asks!
Hoo boy this is a wordy one and I am so sorry
2. who was your first oc?
Answered here! :D
4. have you kept all of your ocs since the beginning?
Not all of them (although I haven't sold them or anything, the ones I didn't keep just no longer exist), but there are some I've kept since the beginning. "Super Cat"--now just named Kat--has been around since I first made her, and I've got some other characters who were made a little after that who are still around.
20. which oc do you think has changed the most since you made them?
It's hard to say! None of my characters end up quite what I plan for them to be, and they all change a lot as time goes by.
One that comes to mind off the top of my head who isn't currently sitting in revision limbo is Elly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Originally, Elly was an Invader Zim fancharacter. She was a type of alien from the series called Irkens, and formerly a soldier. Elly was banished by the Irken Empire for some reason (I forget what, I think she blew up something important while trying to demonstrate her skill with explosives and other weapons) and had ended up on Earth with her bratty robot, GiRu, who she had a very strained relationship with. Elly determined she was going win the favor of the Irken Empire by taking over Earth, or blowing it up--just depending on what ended up more doable.
Elly was loud, hot-headed, feisty, melodramatic, conceited, and loved puns. Her passions included weapons and technology, and she was very curious about other planets' technology. And she spent her days unsuccessfully trying to figure out how to take over the world. Due to my own extreme loneliness, her character also functioned as something like an imaginary not-quite-friend, and somehow ended up the reluctant caretaker of my Irken persona.
As I started to move out of fancharacters, as a replacement for Invader Zim's Irkens, I made a race of small alien cat-rodent-things called caigens who were trying to take over the universe. Elly was changed to be a caigen spy, working (still reluctantly) with my new persona on Earth to relay information about how to take over the world. She stopped being recklessly destructive and wasn't as over-the-top a personality or role, but she was still a feisty hothead.
Tumblr media
Nowadays, Elly's still a caigen and has retained some of her irritability and loudness, but she's a bit more chill and now works as a researcher for an organization studying the technologies of foreign worlds. She also now has a hobby in robotics and no longer works as anyone's caretaker. Elly’s robot is now named Garu, also.
Tumblr media
I suppose she's not actually too different in basic personality, but going from "I'm going to blow up the planet I live on to prove myself a good soldier" to "I'm going to study foreign planets because they're fascinating" is a pretty drastic jump.
23. which oc do you think has affected you the most as youve grown with them?
That's a tough one, but one of the main ones who comes to mind is my character Elcycinu.
Originally, Elcycinu was the result of seeing a picture that made me want to draw an ~evil version~ of my character Uni, combined with the fact several people had drawn Uni with red eyes and I wanted to replicate that.
Tumblr media
I didn't initially intend for Elcycinu to be an actual character, just a drawing, but then she became one. Elcycinu was something of a non-traditional vampire who fed on the misery of others--but not through any choice of their own. It was a necessity for them. They in-story were basically the physical manifestation of Uni's insecurities and anger: feeling like an outcast, feeling worthless and like she only caused problems, feeling underappreciated, and so forth. And Elcycinu was majorly a projection of my own depression and had my own negative traits given to them and amplified.
Slowly, though, Elcycinu became their own character. Elcycinu was depressed, uncomfortable, out of place, and lashed out at those he loved and also was a general ass, but they started to find people to care about, to find hobbies to care about, ways to deal with their depression and anger, and to find ways to use their vampirism to protect people from truly terrible people. And they also started to figure out their gender, or lack of one, and to figure out what sorts of presentation made them feel comfortable.
Tumblr media
So much of me was put into Elcycinu, so as they came to discover themself and accept themself, I started to do the same. I figured out my own gender, and I started to truly believe I could feel more comfortable with ... me. And I did start to feel more comfortable.
While Elcycinu is certainly not the only thing that's helped me to discover and accept myself, they played a very large role in that and I'm grateful to them.
Previous editions of Elcycinu were put through a lot, so I wanted to give the latest reworking less awfulness--partly to tone down the unnecessarily dark strangeness of my stories a little, and partly because I want to give Elcycinu something nice after everythng. They still have plenty of troubles with things like feeling like an outcast and a history of anger and social trouble, but now they're Uni's twin sister and they were adopted by the Monowheel God. They have an adoptive family, they have a job as a circus performer, and they're now a more traditional vampire and only require blood.
Tumblr media
While depression is still something they struggle with--and they still can be an ass--they're a happier, healthier, and more confident individual. And I am, too.

Heart’s Choice Author Interview: RoAnna Sylver, “Dawnfall”
Find true love and family with a pirate crew at the ends of the universe, where aliens, ghosts, and portals open the space between worlds...and your heart. You are a Navigator, one who creates and guards portals from one dimension to another, wary of the liminal sea between them.
Your universe is made of two worlds: one contains the magic-infused world of Zephyria, and the other, the dystopian space station Eclipse. The worlds are balanced, until one day, an explosive disaster, a deadly energy storm, and an infamous pirate—the Ghost Queen—upend your life and plunge you into a race to save both worlds.
Dawnfall is a 232,000 word interactive romance novel by RoAnna Sylver,  one of the first set of games releasing with the launch of Heart’s Choice. I sat down with the author, RoAnna Sylver, to talk about writing interactive romance. Heart’s Choice games release December 2nd.
Dawnfall has frankly an insanely wonderful setting for a romance game. Tell me about the aliens, the pirates, the ghosts, and the alien-pirate-ghosts.
Hi there! I’m so glad you think this sounds fun! Yeah, Dawnfall is weird as heck, and that’s one of the things I love about this story. It’s weird in a way I don’t think we’ve seen much of before. I really just tried to put in everything I find fun or interesting, and that I’ve always wanted to write. Dawnfall started out as a total brain-candy project, and runs on pure Rule of Cool. Pirates? Yes. Magic? Yes. A slice of cyberpunk? Hell yes. Eerie ghosts and faerie-tale influences and memory-sharing potions? Giant bird people? The power of rock n’roll? Yes, yes, yes.
And also everybody’s dateable, and in a couple cases, dating each other. We weave a tangled web, but I think it’s a pretty badass and spectacular web.
You seem to really neatly straddle the genre fence here with a romance and sci-fi/fantasy. What was challenging about cramming all of that into one game?
Thank you so much for saying that. I’ve always adored SFF, and there’s so much in this genre-collection, so many extremes and concepts and contrasting colors, that I couldn’t limit myself to picking just one to play with. This weird game-book is kind of a love letter to fantasy and science fiction and haunted house stories and cyberpunk adventures—I thought a lot about the Disney movie Treasure Planet for its genre-blending beauty, and the Bioware game Mass Effect for its array of fascinating, multidimensional alien cuties to interact with and date… and then turned it up to eleven.
I guess you’d expect the challenge to be in making it all fit together/be “believable,” but I kind of threw that out the window. I don’t expect anyone to find it ‘realistic’ (setting-wise anyway; I tried to make every character ring true of course), and I don’t really care if someone thinks it’s silly, or doesn’t take it seriously. It is silly in a lot of ways. DAWNFALL is a giant ridiculous queer space magic pirate adventure, and the only goal is fun. If you have fun, I’ve done my job, and there should be something fun in here for everyone.
Did you have a favorite NPC you enjoyed writing most?
Honestly I love them all so much in different ways, and I know them so well by now it’s really second nature. Their voices come so easily and they’re all so much fun. The Queen’s swagger is awesome though, and her mental voice/mannerisms probably come through especially clearly. I love Zenith’s vulnerable moments when xie lets xir guard down and lets go of the need to entertain or please. I love Averis’s journey and growth from cute wibbly nerd to a confident swashbuckler (who is also still a cute wibbly nerd). I love how deeply Oz feels, how strongly he loves and remembers and honors memory, and how unafraid he is to show softness and warmth. And I love a certain spoilery ghost-babe and how they’re so full of joy at the beauty of life.
I do want to give special mention to Aeon, though. This is a story about connection, and I wanted to show that sibling bonds are every bit as important and strong as romantic or any other. I also wanted to show a complex, multidimensional antagonist figure who holds heartbreaking secrets along with authority, and is genuinely trying to do what she thinks is the best thing, and wants what’s best for you, the PC, even if you might not always agree. Her balance between being so emotionally guarded and determined and unyielding, while hopefully being extremely easy to read and tell what she wants and fears and loves—spoiler: you; she loves you!—was a challenge I hope I pull off.
…Also I enjoy any time Vyranix gets his pompous feathered ass handed to him. I think we all know a Vyranix, or at least of one, and it’s always fun to take them down, even in fantasy.
Who would you be romancing as a player?
I’m gonna say “everyone,” and here it won’t actually be cheating, because you can romance everyone! At once! In varying degrees/relationship dynamics and attractions. You don’t see a lot of polyamory-friendly games or books or anything really, and this is an incredibly important thing for me. The second I got the idea for Dawnfall I knew it had to let players romance anyone they wanted and show polyamory in a realistic, healthy light. I’m also a-spec (asexual and aromantic), and having not just good representation but being actively included and welcomed and celebrated in fiction is so huge too.
Dawnfall is a romance of course, being part of Heart’s Choice, but one of the single most vital elements for me is making it inclusive for aromantic and asexual players and player-characters. Essentially, I wanted to write a romance that didn’t penalize players for not experiencing the attractions the way we’re otherwise expected or required—and I’m so grateful that my amazing editors and community not only accepted but supported everything I was trying to do here. (It’s so refreshing not to have to fight for inclusion and freedom. It shouldn’t be, but it is.)
And that’s where the concept of “Heart-Stars” and “Same-Feathers” came from. I’ve never seen anything honor queerplatonic relationships like I’m trying to do here, and I want everyone, of every sexuality and attraction, to feel like they have a place here and can experience this adventure without limits. And I wanted to show that it’s a very normal thing, hence this being the same for the human characters as well as alien. (One of the nonbinary characters being human is also no mistake. I love me some wild alien genders, but there are tons of awesome nonbinary humans too!)
…That being said, I think I gave Averis most of my anxiety-issues, and would really just like to curl up with Oz and watch The Great British Bake-Off. That sounds like a perfect night in my books.
What were some of the things you found surprising about the game-writing process?
Coding was definitely the biggest learning curve. I’d never coded anything before in my life, and it’s such a new skillset to learn, entirely different from any kind of writing I’ve ever done. Sometimes it felt rewriting my brain, which did not at all do this intuitively—and also sometimes like I bit off much more than I could chew (first game ever being not only a huge piece of interactive fiction, but a polyamorous romance with aro and ace possibilities, and so many more variables than expected!), but it’s been worth it. Entirely. If my writing makes anyone feel seen and accepted and invited to have fun as they are, it’s worth every bit of struggle.
Also, oddly, interactive fiction is in some ways easier for me than writing a plain old book! Probably because I love AUs so much, and every choice in a game is like writing a tiny AU of the story, so I get to do the same scenes several different ways. My ADHD-brain finds something about this extremely satisfying, most likely because it somehow feels more like multitasking! Several stories in one, and if I like two ideas, I don’t have to pick just one to write!
Honestly though, I think the most surprising part is just being done, and…that I could do this at all. It was so huge, and took so long, and I learned so much, and every day I’m just kind of going “who the hell am I?” about doing all of this. I’m proud of it. I did a cool thing. And trying to get better at saying that.
And, what are you working on now?
I always have about 8 active projects going at once (which shouldn’t come as a surprise after last question!), but my next interactive fiction game is with Tales/Fable Labs! It’s shaping up to be a Dawnfall-sized project, but a little faster-moving and action-y.
It’s called Every Beat Belongs To You, and it’s a romantic thriller that feels like Twin Peaks meets Mr. Robot, with a smattering of Repo: The Genetic Opera. A creepy Pacific Northwest town with a secret (and a rash of ritualized murders), a super-slick medical research company whose flagship product is a 100% perfect synthetic heart, a mysterious new-age group, and a sister who went missing just before discovering how it’s all connected. Also five simultaneously-dateable (including ace and aro ships!) cuties of varying genders! Who will you trust with your heart?
I’m very excited about Everybeat, which should be just as queer, polyam, exciting, and weird as all my stuff! Aside from that, I’m working on Stake Sauce Book 2, its companion f/f vampire series Death Masquerade, and Chameleon Moon Book 3. I’m not always working…sometimes there are videogames, and sleep. But I really hope to have a lot more fun things to share soon!
Oh, and depending on how this weird, fun thing goes, I do have some ideas for prequel Dawnfall stories; maybe games, maybe books, but the ideas are there. The world—worlds, really—is so huge, and I’m not done playing in it yet! I also have some character art drawn, and I want to do a lot more of them. It’s another way to show love.
So thank you so much! I really hope Dawnfall is as fun to everyone to read/play as it was for me to write. I can’t wait to share it with you!

the king/father creates/births things while the queen serves only to impregnate (him with the idea for what he will create, like a muse, if you will)? idk i hate women being reduced to their reproductive function but this also seems misogynistic somehow. also does this make roxy's ability to create objects from nothing another "she's trans" joke?
I think the discomfort you’re apprehending is discussed somewhat when Crockertier!Jane tells Jake he will only exist to sire her children? Sexual objectification is probably a more familiar experience for women, but the unease in being subsumed by some sexual function isn’t necessarily gender exclusive… (the existence of domination play attests to that probably)
This subject is probably out of my depth, but I’m going to meander a bit and hopefully say a couple useful things.
First, some clarification: “birth” is the principle of separation and “pregnancy” is the principle of union. Thus birth-as-we-know-it is rendered equivalent to ejaculation, Breathing out, pooping – all of which involve separation from that which was once part of you. Likewise the image of a gestating fetus is equivalent to taut testicles, lungs full of air, a constipated colon – states in which the union is maintained. On this level, it’s apparent that any given body can participate in both halves of the dichotomy.
But as elaborated back in the Roxy-and-Dirk post, Sburb’s queens and kings are aligned with birth and pregnancy, respectively. As per Caliborn’s enchantment, this is treated a hat-switch, a reversal of expectations on who ejaculates and who gestates. “Birth” (which Caliborn likes) is coded as masculine, so that assigning this function to the queen is met as a reversal. While “pregnancy” (for which Caliborn fetishes his disgust) is coded as feminine, so that assigning this function to the king is met as a reversal.
The problem I’m facing is evaluating whether the birth/pregnancy dichotomy (aka separation/union, aka Breath/Blood) contains an intrinsic (ie inescapable?) gendered hierarchy, or if the gendered hierarchy is imported by characters (or us) onto what is actually a gender-neutral distinction. Though there could also be a broader point that binary systems are easily co-opted as mapping to the gender binary…? So that even if a distinction “ought to be” neutral, the matter remains that it has been /rendered/ gendered?
To avoid speaking too much in terms of generalities, I’m going to reorient this discussion around John Egbert via an ask concerning the ARG:
you gotta talk about it man come on
I read the ARG as a conspiracy theory that falls in line with the kids’ paranoid fantasies. In the same way that the very real trolls function as manifestations from the psyches of those around them, the world of Homestuck is, in general, shaped by the psychological profiles of its inhabitants.
I gather this partly from the nods to an irl conspiracy (eg declaring Obama to be a cross-dimensional immigrant), but mainly because the overwhelming paranoia that defines the narrative, the conviction that the world has degenerated and that every known authority is but a feeble puppet of a nebulous overlord. Comedians Laurel and Hardy are slowly corrupted and eventually infused with Evil, resulting in the birth of the Insane Clown Posse, which is to say ICP’s low-class status translates into degenerate art within the confines of the conspiracy. Albert Einstein is renounced as a fake, whose “insights” are mere scraps cast off from a feast of truth available to some unseen master. It’s all insurmountably stupid, but there is a unifying thread:
The idea is that the world is “fallen”, in two of the senses explored via John Egbert’s fear of heights (or rather, his fear of descent).
1. John is literally afraid of heights, having fallen from the slime pogo. But John’s entry item is an apple because he experiences a pervasive sense that there is a perfect world of ideals from which he has been thrown down – a sort of intersection between the Fall of Man from the Garden of Eden and the heavenly Platonic Forms. This manifests partly in an obsession with authenticity, a subject that pervades Act 1 (x)(x). The Obama birth-certificate conspiracy attempts to frame Obama as “inauthentic”, and framing Einstein as a feeble peddler of inherited slivers of truth relies on the idea that there is a Godly figure with access to ALL the truth, a master presiding over the Pleroma. John is susceptible to this kind of thinking; after all, the paranoid idea of Betty Crocker as an Illuminati-tier omnipotent antagonist began as one of John’s funny delusions.
2. The biblical Fall is at times phrased as the corruption of humanity, and that sense carries into Homestuck. The other Heir, Equius, is revolted and titillated by that which he regards as base. His fetishization being lower class and other modes of degradation receives a visual complement in images of a falling ideal: the death-by-fall of man-horse Arthour, and Equius’s own descent through the caves of LOCAS (the circumstances of a lusus’s death and the features of a planet both bear relation to a player’s fantasies). John complicates the picture a little bit: he specifically has a fascination with “bad movies” (low status art), but also he regards the other side of the silver screen as a Pleroma of sorts, which simultaneously elevates the art.
But my goal is to demonstrate that all of this intersects with the original topic: the division of high/low is also projected onto masculine/feminine.
John wishes to undo his traumatic fall from the slime pogo, an event that has come to represent John’s fantasy of his own birth. As hinted at the start, the birth he imagines for himself is ejaculatory: Ghostbusters is “manbro bukkake theatre”, and John fancies himself a ghost busted directly from the loins of his heavenly Father. John seeks to re-merge with his image of God, a goal implicit in John’s attempts to reunite with Dad in a more familiar sense.
But implicit in John’s quest to give up the ghost and ascend to the Father is a rejection of the implicitly feminized earth and flesh, to which the self/soul is umbilically bound. This gendering is often shown via robots:
Jake jokingly says that Dirk is “more machine than man” – this is a jab at Dirk’s terse demeanor, but placing machines in opposition to manhood potentially feminizes the machines, compromising Dirk’s desiring to be a paragon of dudeliness. The simultaneous masculinization of reason and dehuminizing jabs like Jake’s confuse and frustrate Dirk for a variety of reasons
The ghost of Aradia enters robotic husk to be reborn, imitating the insertion of the spirit into the body. She then finds that Equius has inserted something into her body against her will, and violently removes it and destroys it. “It” was a chip that controlled her feelings, but the intimate violation has tones of assault, and Aradia’s heart is effectively aborted.
There’s more examples, but this is just an aside to push the notion that the Fall (from high to low) entails the entry of spirit into body, which via the analogous entry of sperm into womb would seem to gender hierarchy itself. Masculine/feminine is entrenched as high/low by the metaphysics.
(Here’s a nice post that notes a gendering of the hemocaste system in Zebruh’s Friendsim route)
Tumblr media
This leads me into thinking that John’s desire to merge with the image of the Father is connected to his love of pranking people, insofar as it becomes a assertion of domination/power (which is presumed to be the masculine position). The prankster’s gambit, at its purest, is a measure of Who’s On Top.
At the end of the Chaos Dunk scene (in which John symbolically enacts Rose’s rape fantasies), John pranks Rose by dumping a bucket full of gushers on her head. Buckets are receptacles, and thus occupy the balls/womb half of the divide. Evacuating the bucket all over Rose is a repetition of earlier symbolic assault, and the moment is embellished with a prankster’s gambit to emphasize the notion that there is an element of domination to the encounter.
The bucket prank is echoed in a  later conversation between John and Rose, beginning at page 2922. John asks repeatedly whether Rose “knows everything” now, says the beta kids “were in this adventure together” but with Rose’s occult knowledge, she is now “getting away from us”. John is not anxious that Rose is separating in a neutral way – his anxiety stems from the idea that she is rising above them. “Knowing everything” is a property of mastery, and John is confused by Rose being above him. At the end of 2922, John attempts to mock Rose’s words, but she tells him he’s being mean and he apologizes.
Rose herself expresses some anxieties about her position, saying elements of her wizard shtick have made her feel “ridiculous” or “embarrassed”. Her choice of words invokes the manifestation of Eridan, who mocks Rose’s “ludicrous poppycock” – she has an ongoing worry that her phallus (masculinized symbol of power) is fake.
This is why the scene culminates in an play scenario, in which John promises to sweep in like a noble knight and banish Rose’s encroaching grimdarkness, and Rose in turn pretends to swoon. The joke is an ironic acquiescence to the (gendered) hierarchy that is implicitly being challenged by Rose’s rise to power (or rather, that the kids perceive to have challenged). Past this, the conversation goes on to the subject of the Tumor, in a way that I have difficult tying into some sort of conclusion for the gendered aspects of the conversation.
This probably bears some relation to Rose’s insistence that John is the group’s leader…? But again, I’m at a loss. Let’s wrap this up.
On your last point: Roxy creating items from nothing actually throws a small wrench into things: in another essay on Gnosticism I was reading (Schuyler Brown’s “Begotten, Not Created”), “emanation” suggested that the creation was originally part of something (God, the One, etc), and emanation was thus framed as being in opposition to creation-from-nothing.
This brings me back to the problem of not knowing which portions of Homestuck’s metaphysics are particular to a given character’s psyche, which portions are universal, and which portions are loaded with both personal and universal meaning, or personal meaning that are /rendered/ universal. The motif of Roxy throwing a dead cat out of bucket seems to carry multiple meanings at once… in the sense we’ve noted, it would relate to the terror of stillbirth and miscarriage that follows Mom and Condy around. But reading “birth” as ejaculation, the cat could also be read as a disappointed acknowledgement that she cannot create life on her own…?

Mindquake Wishlist!
Hi everybody! So I’m going to @sfmindquake, and I historically have trouble voicing wants and needs in person, so doing this seemed like a really good idea.
The thing you gotta know about me is that I’m an abuse survivor. My family is NOT GREAT and part of that has been a real sense of alienation from my body and my sexuality and my sense of self in general. I also have some adult trauma stuff going on and I haven’t really experienced a ton of intimacy since I came to terms with what happened to me (I’m a little over a year in therapy). Pile that on top of all the weird internalized shame that come sometimes come with being into this great stuff we’re all into and I feel like a giant shaken-up soda bottle of nerves and crazy.
I’m sure some of that is just my anxiety being an asshole, but part of it is that I have very little experience to draw on in terms of my wants, needs, boundaries, triggers, all that. Same with hypnosis. I’ve done some self-hypnosis work, but my partnered experience is next to none (one, specifically).
I’m very, very excited for Mindquake. I’m excited for the chance to explore myself with what seems like an awesome community of people.
So all that being said, I would love to find a small handful of people to be regular or semi-regular trance partners at the con. I think gradually building trust and vulnerability with the same people is gonna be good for me, whereas hopping deep into it with someone risks crossing a line I don’t know is there.
If any or all of the below sounds like things you’d be interested in, please DM me! We can get to know each other a bit, meet up at the con, and see if it’s a good fit. If I don’t immediately respond don’t read into that--I’m very bad at Tumblr still.
(Also, I have very few followers, super new to the community, so please feel free to signal boost!)
I’m going to keep it to ten in order to make this thing at all digestible, but I’m totally open to exploring stuff not on the list. So here we go!
For reference, I recently came out as bi and genderqueer (I present and for a long time identified as cis straight male), but the reality is that I have very little idea who I am or who I like or what I like. Part of the con is going to be me finding that out, which is exciting and scary.
I do know that I’m super switchy, but I’m in a very subby headspace right now so these are going to be phrased that way--but they apply in both directions. Very open to switchy and non-switchy play as well.
1. Deep Trance Conditioning
I, uh, I really just wanna be able to go out like a lightswitch. Totally involuntary. Same with mindless/blankness. I love the idea of just having no power over it (or total power over someone else turning on and off). Just that is super hot to me. This is list is gonna be a lot.
2. Gender Play
A big one, basically open to anything. Feeling like a cartoon of masculinity/femininity or a girl in a guy’s body or a guy in a girl’s body or maybe just me but believing myself to be the opposite gender. Bimbo stuff has always weirdly appealed to me too. Mmf. God I’m only two in jesus I said ten?
3. Robot Play
God I love the idea of being an instrument, but like an endlessly flexible one that can be programmed. I love the idea of having alternate personalities programmed into me, too. And like, slowly malfunctioning and breaking down? Or just slowly running out of battery power and winding down.
4. Objectification
Oh, yeah this. Just being a thing to be used. Sexually, if the comfort and desire is there on both sides. I honestly can’t believe that this con is a thing I’m doing and going to right now.
5. Public Play
God the idea of being in trance or responding to suggestions unconsciously in front of people is just--
6. Big, Switchy Power Swings
I love the idea of feeling in control but actually being totally out of it and having my whole universe upended in one fell swoop as I drop.
7. Pet Play
I just wanna be kinda simple and dumb and happy and just be able to kind of want and ask for attention without thinking like or being a person, really.
8. Creativity Work
So this is actually a non-kink one--I’m fascinated by the unconscious use of trance in how we consume and create art and I’m wondering what kind of results we can get if we engage intentionally. If you’re into some experimentation and discussion definitely hit me up even if the kink stuff isn’t your thing.
9. Orgasm On Command
This would be very nice.
10. Lots of Cuddling
Both in an aftercare sense and in general. I love cuddling even platonically and it’s very hard for me to ask for physical intimacy in the moment so I just wanted to put that out there.
Thanks for reading! Very excited to see you all at Mindquake!

The Transformation utilizes an IBM PowerPC-derived CPU code-named Drama" and also a graphics chip set designed through ATI Technologies Inc A review of 67 analysis studies, released in the publication Oncology and also Cancer cells Case Information, has actually repeated previous research by celebrating the virtues of a tomato-rich diet plan in decreasing the development from the prostate, to the extent that deciding on the red fruits might just as assist victims of late-night bladder troubles (a bigger prostate restricts the urinary system system, which makes males wish to see the loo much more as well as raises the odds from soreness during peeing). Child marries, moms a step-daughter, locates a friend that is actually an article writer, and also usually takes to her new community as well as achievable. Child's hubby, Arturo, is actually supposed to become the driver for the book's main tension, the individual on the getting end from Child's deep resentment, a debatable amount which stimulates a whirlwind of rivalry and pressure in the majority of, if not all, from his settings with Kid. After a little cheerful preamble, Hilary Andrews, who provides cosmetics to tens of hundreds of the nation's males via her web site, provided me along with my 1st treaty. The lead character is actually Tom, a boy who is happened my a brokening apple iphone who wakes coming from the leading coma to locate his mind has all the abilities from an apple iphone and more electrical powers besides. That is very irritating to read manuals about rape where there are actually numerous personalities that are uneducated concerning what rape is actually and believe its own the girls error. Young boy X is actually incredibly artistic including action, journey as well as a higher level from enjoyment. While the relationship between things like reading credit ratings and also public accountability may not seem to be precise externally, they belong which connection is actually important to transforming the trend for Dark boys in The United States. The whole manual as a whole has to do with identification (personal, sex, sexual, etc.), mainly; which were we as well as exactly how our team pinpoint ourselves against how the globe determines our team. Secondarily, it concerns just what this means to become individual. When I to begin with read through The Raven Young boys a year back, I certainly never believed I would certainly love this, and afterwards across repeatedly as well as again. The 1st training starts with basic phrases like child," female," pussy-cat" and also dog." In the very first workout, the plan talks the brand-new foreign language's word for a kid," creates that around the best from the screen, and presents one of four pictures to pick from. Secondly, there's the potential for distorted body image Over the past years, ie due to the fact that gyms went mainstream, male hospitalisations for eating disorders have actually risen through 70 per cent, inning accordance with outstanding charitable organization Male Acquires Eating Disorders Too. Rose Colored Pc gaming, whom you could remember by their outstanding Luigi 2DS mod coming from in 2014, are actually bring out a new Video game Child Advancement model resembling the Super Nintendo. http://karinasfatuieste.info/ cannot explore - as well as what all my expertise tells me is essential - is the age from the porn individuals. The difference is that Child Meets Depression is actually true and Log from a Wimpy Kid is actually myth. Update: Anthony suggests interested parties keep an eye on the Game Boy Macro Facebook page for updates. Authorities came to the shopping center and also found the boy in the automobile outside a JC Penney outlet store. Child A plagued as well as hunted by satanic forces, some of which is actually the press which bothers him mercilessly. Proceeding right into young boyhood, Stanford instructor Judy Chu argues in her recent manual When Children Come to be Children that this is actually society as opposed to attribute that incapacitates young boys' social and also emotional abilities. Unless Apple want to end up being only an additional technician business, and sign over all ideas of modifying the world to others, they will repair this. Getting to know the young boys before they got to know Blue was actually a r OK. Source THIS MANUAL WAS ACTUALLY QUITE GREAT. Men are actually pushed to function, in some cases jobs they do not also would like to do, all so they could spend a girl, occasionally also for a child they didn't really want. The planet structure was actually complicated at first, as it is with any type of new collection, however the writer succeeded in presenting ideas without info pours. He was actually actually pissed off that this blonde, slim young boy was debating at him with so much confidence. Then there is the troublesome stress and anxiety that males won't come up to ripped, pendulously-endowed male porn celebrities. Guide takes a peek right into the life of a preteen boy finding his gender, as well as refer to how challenging that could be for a child because of social, or even family members scenarios to become that she or he really is. I applaud the author on getting such a delicate subject matter and handling this effectively. It possesses the exact same handling electrical power as an Activity Kid Breakthrough SP, and contains the brightest screen Nintendo's ever put in a handheld, baseding on Fils-Aime. Boys could just like a furtive glimpse at private insight, however they are actually too susceptible to peer-group stress to take the chance of the embarrassment of getting that. Each sexes execute much better in maths and also science at primary school when there are even more women in the training class since boys tend to interfere with the training class even more, he mentioned. As well as Kyle, Paul's ex lover, that is actually puzzled concerning whether he just likes gals or young boys, not able to recognize that just liking both is an option. In the following town, Samuel, the community older, tells me that most of guys possess three to four partners in this particular village". Chapter 2, Act 5: The Curious Case of the Siblings Shinguji
Daily Life- Free Time
Korekiyo wasn’t expecting any company as he left the dining hall the next day. He certainly wasn’t expecting it to be Kibo either. But lo and behold here they were, with the robotic approximation of a boy offering him the Story of Tokono. And who was he to turn down such a fine gift? It hardly mattered if the volume could be found in his lab or not, it wasn’t often he was the target of friendly gestures like this.
“So what brings you here Kibo? People rarely offer gifts without the expectation of gaining something in return. May I help you with something?”
“I hope you can? I was just wondering what your stance is in regards to Atua. You must know a lot about many faiths, even if you don’t strike me as religious yourself, given your various studies I assume.”
Ah, I see. Perhaps it would be for the best to tread cautiously then. I have no reason to cause him any undue crisis just yet at any rate.
“I have no knowledge on the sort of Atua she worships so if you’re looking for any particular works of his I’m afraid I can’t be of much service. If you’re asking whether or not I believe there is any truth to her claims of possession or divine inspiration… There are many cases across the globe that boast such claims and it’s nigh impossible to separate true instances from mere bouts of madness. But as in my personal experience, I know other forms of possession to be true among human subjects I see no reason to doubt it being possible in her case either. Does this answer suffice?”
Attempting to convince one who’s been brainwashed that the subject of their belief doesn’t exist would only serve to make things more difficult for everyone at present. Besides, I’m not really lying to him yet.
“So there’s no way to know for sure?” Kibo still looked most conflicted with his answer. ( Was he looking for genuine “proof” of Atua’s existence even if he was at “His prophet’s” beck and call? Most intriguing. )
“In this case no, but that is why this is called “faith” yes? If you choose to believe in Angie that’s up to you, just as none could force me to agree with her either. Not out of any disrespect for her mind you, but in my line of work I find it most useful to keep myself unconcerned with any “gods” I’m presented with. If invoking one is a matter of politeness then I will do what I must, but I’ve encountered too many that contradict each other to believe in more than their follower’s stories they are presented with.”
“I see… So this is what the emotion “faith” feels like. I understand! But to you this is more about putting my trust, my “faith”, in Angie rather than believing in Him?”
... You “understand” nothing Kibo. Faith isn’t an emotion, but rather a feeling based on one's belief- No. That might take a while to distinguish for him. And he is certainly trying to better understand himself. I’ll let him keep this, it should do his self-esteem some good at the very least. Correcting him can come later.
It was likely to Korekiyo’s benefit Kibo wasn’t one to take much notice of subtle social cues like “awkward pauses”, as from what he gathered from the way Kibo looked at him he was assuming his friend was merely talking a while to think through his response. The fact it was a positive one was likely also a sign Kibo was rather poor at reading any of Korekiyo’s expressions too, perhaps due to what his mask covers.
“For myself, most certainly. Humans are the only thing I’m truly concerned about, even if the topic can branch into other subjects such as what’s created through their beliefs. They can provide interesting similarities among different groups of people even if the groups involved had never once interacted.”
“How exactly are you defining “human” Kiyo?” ( ... Right. Persecution complex. How quaint. No matter. )
“Kehehe, am I being added to your list of “robophobic” individuals now? I meant no such offense. I’m certainly open to studying other sapient species should the opportunity arise, such as Gonta’s Reptites, for they provide new means of comparing human cultures. To better see what may be “universal” thoughts among sentient beings and thus sort out what may be more human-centric points of issue. I am an anthropologist after all; the human element would remain my greatest point of interest. As such I am more inclined to think of you in human terms, to better match your mind, rather than robotic ones.”
The issue of personhood would remain an open point of debate I’m sure, but humans have often tried to deny each other this right. Even if his robotic nature does make his case less interesting to me personally.
“I would appreciate not being limited to be thought of one way or the other. I may be based on humans but I’m not sure how accurate your assessment is as there are many aspects of the human condition I am obviously not attuned to. Like… Gender. I have no idea how this would apply to someone like me.”
Why must you be so difficult? I hardly need the reminder about your numerous inadequacies- No. Best not to think about him in such a way. Lackluster as he may be in concept, he’s still more than human enough in practice. Particularly with these horrid animatronic bears serving as a point of comparison.
“There are many things people can’t be sure they truly understand about themselves or others. Even gender as it’s conventionally considered isn’t nearly as rigid or binary as some cultures, such as our own, like to portray and socialize them as. Not that some of us here would likely understand I’m sure.”
Immature as it may be Korekiyo hoped the soft jab at a few of their friend’s expenses would help lighten some of Kibo’s tone, but it was hard for him to tell if it worked as intended. Not an unusual experience for him by any means, so instead he changed direction.
“Do you have any issues with how we are addressing you because of this? Many aspects of your appearance do incline one to treat you as though you are male but I understand if this can prove to be rather vexing for you.”
“Well… No. I don’t think I do at least? It’s not like I know what else I would like to be called, and this is certainly easier for everyone. “It” or “They” are too othering, trying to use female terms for myself doesn’t feel right at all, and anything else sounds... kinda weird to me. But I will certainly keep this information in mind for future reference!” ( There we go, he’s in higher spirits now. Much better. )
“I’m glad I could be of some service to you then. I do apologize if it’s not quite what you were expecting of me. Though given current tensions in the school I find your own visit here most peculiar. Is your council having any troubles the rest of us should be aware of?”
“N-no, not at all! Everything is under control. We even got another member last night. Nothing to be worried about.” Kibo said though he was as bad a liar as ever, since he strove to look anywhere else rather than risk meeting Korekiyo’s gaze. It was always fascinating to see how lying changed people.
This did limit the possibilities on who the new recruit could be if nothing else. But between Kokichi and Kaede this reaction was still a toss-up given Kibo’s personal grievances with both of them as of late.
“I’m sorry but I’ll have to be going now. Student council business. But thank you for your help Kiyo.”
With that not unpleasant anomaly out of the way, Kiyo returned to going over his lab’s works. There was still so much to discover, even with the delightful boons already uncovered such as the original Caged Dog Village’s tragic tome and its related artifacts. Not to mention how they already served to inspire him.
It almost seemed unfair for his lab to be so much larger and densely stocked than the others discovered thus far, but he wasn’t about to complain. A certain artist waltzing in unannounced and messing with the artifacts whilst he was preoccupied on the higher levels was a different story.
“Do be careful with how you are handling those Angie, pieces as old as these can be most delicate. Are you looking for references or inspiration perhaps?” (She’s not one to respond well to hostility, I’m not sure how often she’s ever even encountered it before. So let’s just try to stay calm. She’s no Kokichi. )
“Nope! Just looking. Atua provides me with all the inspiration I’ll ever need. And to ask you a question, has Kaede tried talking to you yet today?” (So it was Kaede after all. Odd choice to join her rival’s cult. )
“No, which isn’t surprising as she’s been giving my lab and to a lesser extent myself a fair berth as of late. Should I be expecting her?” Korekiyo was grateful for the lack of walls to dampen his voice as he made his way to the ground floor. Partly as it’d be less rude to carry a conversation that way and partly to make it easier keep her out of trouble. “Though if you have the time I would love to hear more about what your people and customs are like. If we manage to leave this place I’d enjoy paying your home visit.”
“You shouldn’t keep thinking like that you know. It’ll only cause more problems for us in here. You wouldn’t want Atua to punish you for defying his will now would you?”
How about I “punish” you instead, you conniving close-minded childish-  Calm down. Just avoid the topic. Neither of your opinions will be swayed here. She hasn’t been averse to talking about her culture in the past so simply reframe your request in a way that better plays to her own desires.
“I’d like to see him try, it would be a most unique experience I’m sure. Kehehe, it may even be able to make a believer out of me yet. But I would genuinely like to know more of your background even if the outside is no longer an option. If you think “culture clash” may be an issue you face when relating to the rest of us this could prove to be most beneficial for everyone in the long term could it not?”
There might have been a bit too much venom in his response to count as “calm” but the effort was being made. Angie wasn’t particularly convinced to become any more forthcoming unfortunately, but she hid her frustration with him most admirably with a large smile and hands clasped together in forced glee.
“Hopefully things won’t need to be that drastic for you to see the light! But until you do Angie doesn’t think she’ll be sharing anything just yet. If Kiyo doesn’t trust Angie why should Angie trust Kiyo?”
None of you should but you’re all essentially doing so anyway. Such a beautiful mistake in the making. It’ll almost be a shame when everyone else realizes this. But I’m sure your reactions will be well worth it.
“Why should I trust you in the first place? Given you won’t let anyone but yourself even look at our latest motive, much less weigh in on decisions regarding it. You do realize that the book it claims to be was the fictional creation of a certain Mr. Lovecraft yes? Hardly any reason for us to put stock into its claims about revival, even if you view it as a retrieval. Though with how you invoke your “Atua” for your own benefit I can see why honesty may not matter to you. What people think is more important to you yes?”
“... Angie doesn’t think she wants to talk to you anymore now. She doesn’t need to bother with baseless ramblings. Atua knows something’s wrong with you, and now He thinks maybe she can’t even help you anymore. But hopefully Kaede could talk some sense into you. Or at least make you see you’re wrong.”
I already know I am suspicious and “odd” Angie, your bluffs at knowing anything more are but a waste. Had you any sort of divine “protection” at least one of us wouldn’t be in here right now, would we?
Korekiyo did feel a twinge of what may have been guilt at the sight of her still masking her anger with a small smile as she left his lab in a hurry. He often had troubles dealing with personalities like hers, much in the same way talking to children can prove a most tiresome and fruitless endeavor.
It was a shame he might not get the chance to learn at least who Angie’s people were before her time came, but such is life. She did at least give him something to look into at the present though, even if Kaede may not appreciate him visiting just yet.
He didn’t need to look for her for long, as she was in her lab much like his map indicated. Hopefully his intrusion wouldn’t be too upsetting for her, as he had been trying to make up for his earlier mistake. One never could tell how long a person could be negatively affected by an act of carelessness like this.
It was a pleasant surprise that she didn’t look too bothered by his presence. She even took the time to pause her playing to properly address him. “Oh, hey Kiyo. Are you looking for something? I’m not sure I have many songs here that fit what you said interested you before, but I’d be happy to help if I could.”
“I’m actually here because Angie indicated you may be wishing to talk to me about something. Perhaps relating to why our previous leader has apparently joined our would be dictator’s tyrannical cult?”
“O-oh. Well first off it’s probably not what you’re thinking. Just… Make sure the door is closed okay?” ( And what would she think I’d be assuming? She’s not the weak-willed sort of person who’d genuinely buy into something like this, nor does a new loss of faith feel fitting. But neither was Tenko I suppose. )
Once she was confident the soundproofed door was firmly shut she resumed playing as if hoping the extra noise would further help mask what was being discussed. A pity to see how this game was making her become more paranoid to try and respond to their previous tragedies, but an understandable one.
And there is always something beautiful in the way humans learn to adapt to their situations, for better or for ill. It would be wonderful to see how else our situation might try to change her for the sake of protecting herself and those she has come to care about. Assuming she can last long enough to show it.
“I’ve already talked to Kaito and Kokichi about this but I’m just trying to convince Angie to postpone the ritual for another day. As far as she should be concerned I joined the student council to unite the class again and that means this day is to “convert” you all so the motive will be used as a group event of sorts tomorrow. I didn’t know what else I could do, since trying to stop her probably wouldn’t have worked.”
“So you’d like for us to all play along with this for the time being?”
“If you could that’d be great. Hopefully tomorrow we’ll be able to take the book away from her or something as a more permanent solution for this. I don’t want to risk it being used for real.”
“You do realize Kirumi was likely already attempting something similar yes? Her dedication to Angie’s ideals is obviously untrue, given how worried she is about her supposed wards beyond our current cage. I do believe you even saw firsthand how surprisingly lax she is being with her duties last night, despite how she normally fulfills her given tasks down to their very letter. Unless my ears had deceived me.”
“Well I… I mean I didn’t know for sure before, and I have no idea what she’s actually planning to do when Angie’s really ready to try and bring back Himiko.”
Because you are still all too trusting even with how this place has tried to change you. It’s not like Angie was ever one of her actual “citizens” and Kirumi will do anything to leave this place. Why else allow me to do as I will but try to set me up as her perfect patsy, given the ample opportunities I’d have with how our labs are on the same floor? It wouldn’t even be wrong of you to suspect me of doing such a thing.
“Do you really think she’ll believe you if you claim we’ve all had a change of heart? She’d have more than enough reason to think Kokichi, Kaito, or I are being less than sincere and her disdain for Ryoma and Maki has been equally apparent.”
“I think this does still have a chance of working. And speaking of… Try to go easy on Kaito for awhile okay? He hasn’t been well lately and I don’t want him getting any worse so I’m trying to help with stress.”
Oh my, now this is interesting. She’s referring to that boorish brute of a boy from the other night, isn’t she? It would serve him right to be paid another visit for how he treated me. Honestly Korekiyo you really do need to raise your standards if you’re honestly considering someone that rude as a “friend” of yours.
Come now Sister, he isn’t so bad. Merely a bit old fashioned and a touch too earnest for his own good. Besides, it isn’t like you to be so active this early, no need to be hasty. Best we not rock the boat just yet.
Unexpected as his sister’s input was it wasn’t hard to keep any signs of his newly divided attention from showing. He’s had years of practice after all, and Kaede had no reason to look for any changes. She’d probably just take any pause she’d notice as being a moment while he considered her request.
“Of course, besides I doubt I’ll be seeing him much today at any rate. I do hope he improves soon.”
Are you seriously refusing me , brother? This isn’t like you either. Certainly not for a miserable lot like this. What could even be the harm of it? I merely want to mess with him a little. You can’t deny you’d like to see how he squirms when pushed too, with how pitiful his nerves are. Unless she’s who you’d rather see?
It’s not like that Sister. If everything is to go to plan it’d be best not to draw needless attention to myself.
Fine. But I think I want to be properly introduced to her next. You’d at least still do that for me, right little brother?
If Kaede saw anything off in his demeanor as he excused himself to head back to his lab she didn’t show it. This was a conversation best held in private, and certainly nowhere near the subject of discussion.
Not that he was terribly taken aback by his sister’s request, odd as the timing may be. He had already even gotten Kaede’s permission to prepare for this occasion quite some time ago, before even Rantaro died, and seeing his motive video didn’t seem to change her mind so this shouldn’t have been a surprise.
It’s not like he’s tried asking this of any of his other friends he thought would live up to his dear sister’s expectations yet either. Admittedly due in part to most already giving their consent earlier, as he didn’t wish to risk making any suspicious by reaffirming statements likely only said to help ease his worries.
Are you sure? She’s proven more useful than most of the others in the trials we’ve been facing in here. It’d be a shame to fail so close to your goal over losing a mere game such as this.
You’re not questioning me now, are you? Kukuku~ it’s a bit late for your rebellious stage, isn’t it?
Never Sister. I’d be nothing without you. I’m sure between Kaito’s experience and Kokichi’s intuition we’d be able to survive well without her. But should I hold back if someone else makes for a better target first?
As long as she’s the one you’re planning on I suppose it would be fine to also take advantage of a good moment. No point in ignoring someone so eager to meet with me if they unintentionally interrupt us. We wouldn’t want to waste an opportunity like what happened to Miss Yumeno again now would we? I was so looking forward to being able to learn more about her, but since you weren’t involved I can’t find her.
… Right. At least Miu’s death was no such loss for you, even if she could be amusing to me on occasion. But I best make sure current plans are going to schedule. I shan’t keep you waiting for much longer now.
At least that was enough to ease Her spirit’s concerns for now. She was still there of course, still watching over him as she normally does to help ease and guide him, but as a silent observer for the time being. This would just mean she’d be more likely to chime in on any of his other conversations from now on.
Particularly since to make sure everything was going as he’d thought they would he’d be visiting with Kirumi next. He already had a bottle of Cleopatra's Pearl Cocktail he assumed she’d enjoy so she shouldn’t refuse his company if he offered to share some with her in her lab. ( Though with its claim to help make one beautiful I’m inclined to think almost every girl here would be at least a little intrigued. )
She took the bait as expected. She hardly even considered his request to be unusual, so perhaps she thought this was a means of repaying her for her earlier leniency. From a certain point of view that could even be considered true. Her bloodlust gave him a safe window to act on his, so he is genuinely grateful.
Even though she could just as easily turn on you instead? I don’t like this little brother. You could have at least indicated to someone you two would be meeting in case something goes wrong.
I’m far more useful to her alive than dead Sister. If she wants to get away with murder in this place she needs someone to take the fall for her instead. Trying to set Ryoma up as a case of suicide was a boat that has long since sailed and with how I am it’d be easy to believably accuse me of killing anyone.
In an attempt to avoid getting lost in his own thoughts in front of her Korekiyo saw fit to break their comfortable silence. “So how does one such as yourself find any comfort among the student council? Has your sense of obligation towards us outweighed that of your supposed role as Prime Minister now?”
“Not “outweighed” so to speak, but I have made my peace with our situation for now. I do hope we can find a means to leave, despite Angie’s beliefs, but I saw firsthand my previous thoughts on how to do so were...deeply flawed. I merely want to make sure everyone’s lives here are as comfortable and bearable as possible until that time can come. And what about your sister? Aren’t you still worried about her?”
She is an amusing one, isn’t she? She’s even trying to avoid directly lying to you as if you were Oma. What a foolish girl. The inexperience of her youth betrays her no matter how mature she pretends to be.
But her heart’s in the right place. It’s only natural for someone like her to think of people as numbers that she can weigh against each other, as if there can ever be truly acceptable losses in any form of tragedy.
“I too have made my own peace of sorts, but at least I’m still being open about my desire to leave. While I’m here I do still have my lab and a unique set of human experiences to observe to pass the time. But your denial of weight begs the question, how do you value others? There are many ways to view it.”
“I could ask you the same thing then. But for me, if I can’t put the needs of my master first then I seek to aid those who can do the most good for others in general. That is why my initial reaction to certain circumstances was to act as though my own life was worth more than that of the rest of you. My master, our nation, still needed my service and on top of that I saw myself as best equipped to help everyone at risk.”
“So you use the perspective of your society as a whole? That’s rather arrogant of you wouldn’t you say? As “Prime Minister” you could easily argue your life was worth more than many larger groups of people. I value all of humanity, for all of their flaws, too much to accept such a thing. A life is worth one life, no more and most certainly no less, regardless of the actions a person may take or their physical condition. My fieldwork exposes me to too many differing sets of morals and values to try and use anything else, and all remain equal in death I find. All I can do to gauge beyond that is how I personally see a person.”
“I’m not putting myself first for the sake of my own needs so I don’t think “arrogant” is the proper word for it." Kirumi objected with a stern glare before she took another sip to settle herself. "It’s hard to really know how you’ll feel about judging others until you are truly tested I think. All I know is that as a maid it’s my duty to serve my wards as well as I am able. They are my only concern.”
Adorable sentiments if they are true, but I very much doubt that. Just look at how she bristles at the revelation of her hubris rather than taking the moment to self-reflect on it. However I do quite admire her spirit and determination, you’re right about that. Too bad you're having another one of those days where you keep getting under everyone’s skin though Korekiyo. Kukuku~
I'm glad you're enjoying yourself but I don't suppose you'd actually help narrow down if I'm the one too on edge or if it's everyone's nerves that's to blame for this, would you dear sister?
Now, why would I ever do something like that? It's so much more fun to see how your "friends" are when angered, given how much of them we've yet to see.
True, but it might be easier to observe all facets of their beauty if I'm not the target of their ire, yes?
Details, details~
“Responsibility is a virtue I more than understand I assure you, nor am I judging you for how you’ve chosen to best balance what you value the most. There is no shame to be had in expressing some selfishness afterall. And I’d certainly put my sister’s needs or wishes before my own as well, should she need me to. I simply don’t feel she needs me to endanger myself or others to leave this place just yet.”
Indeed, for if we play our cards right you won’t even need to leave to finally finish your promise. Though it will be a shame to lose a girl like Miss Yonaga to Miss Tojo, she would’ve made for a fine friend too.
“You accuse me of arrogance and then claim you aren’t judging me? Isn’t that rather contrary?”
“True. Perhaps it is best to say I am not negatively judging you. All aspects of humanity are beautiful to me, even those conventionally seen as ugly or “wrong”. I see nothing wrong with someone as generally selfless as yourself having flaws such as this. I certainly don't look up to you any less for them, if anything I think they make me admire your work ethic all the more." He assured her, which seemed to catch Kirumi by surprise which was a rare feat. She might have even been blushing a tad, since she turned her head away so her bangs hid most of her face. With a smile and a shug he continued. "Focusing only on one's “good” qualities can never give you a real idea of who they were. Humans are interesting because of their imperfections, not in spite of them. If people were perfect they wouldn’t be as wonderfully unpredictable as they truly are.”
As she faced him again she eyed him with some suspicion. He wasn't sure if it was because she was doubting his intentions with this talk or began thinking his words were hallow, but she didn't let him wonder for long. “I see. And do you see any contradiction in how you speak of “humanity” as if you aren’t a part of it?”
Touche. It is easy to sound like one has something of a God complex like this. Not to mention the irony of preaching the benefits of “unpredictability” to someone we’re relying on accurately predicting for now.
“I’m more often an observer than a participant so I’m inclined think it oft comes with the territory. It’s easy to divorce yourself from others. You have those not under your care, I have my subjects of study.”
She hummed a little at that, as if more in thought than agreement, but his answer satisfied her enough. They returned to drinking in silence for some time before Korekiyo made his leave, giving her what was left of the bottle in gratitude for her conversation and company.
It was nearly nighttime when he got back to his lab, but it wasn’t empty when he arrived. Maki had apparently made herself comfortable near one of many bookshelves, though when she heard him come in she put whichever book she was reading aside. If she wasn’t there to read there isn’t much else she could be looking for but him, given the sort of person she was. This was sure to be interesting.
What is she doing here? Send her away brother, we have no need for her company. We don’t need her lingering this late and interrupting Miss Tojo’s plans like she did last night. Even that delay was vexing.
Sister please, if she has been waiting to speak with me the least I can do for her is hear her out. It must be something unusual for her to come here. She’s far from the social type and we haven’t spoken much.
“Good evening, my apologies if I interrupted you. This is quite the surprise, seeing you here.” Korekiyo began as he offered her a brief bow.
Maki wasn't the sort to be offended by tardiness or mince words though. “You didn’t. I was hoping to talk to you actually.”
Why? Korekiyo I do not like this at all. Why must you keep interacting with such dangerous women?!
I hear you Sister but she’s hardly dangerous. Her talent being exposed puts too much suspicion on her to risk doing anything drastic. If she says she’s here to talk then there’s no reason to doubt her about that.
“Really? I’m sorry to have kept you waiting then. How may I help you? But isn’t it a bit late for this?”
“No, it’s fine. And there’s no point in acting like you actually care about any council’s curfews either. But…” Maki paused as if debating with herself for a moment, fiddling with her collar while in thought. Korekiyo took a seat near her as he waited to see what was on her mind. “... The only reason I’m asking you of all people is because no one would believe you if you breathed a word about any of this. And Ryoma indicted you aren’t as clueless about this sorta stuff as the rest of us mostly are. Got it?”
“Understood, but you do realize Angie’s just down the hall and doesn’t always stay in her lab yes?” Korekiyo reminded her but given her glare was less than appreciated. At least until it softened into a frustrated puffy faced pout as she nearly undid her bow with her fidgeting.
Realizing her mistake with a blush she instead shoved an item in front of his face to try and force things along. A mummified monkey’s paw no less. Awfully fitting considering what Monosuke indicated the results of a resurrection could turn out like. And as Korekiyo gladly took her bribe she found her voice.
“How… do you know when you like someone?” He heard her ask in a hushed tone and time seemed to screech to a halt.
… What ?
This… was not good. There is a reason why “May you live in interesting times” is considered to be meant as a curse, not a blessing.
He could only hope any pause on his part was taken as him thinking of a response to her question rather than dealing with the migraine to come. It was hard to tell where his own feelings ended and his sister’s began when situations got like this. But pain was far from a stranger and hiding it came naturally enough.
See what happens when you don’t listen to me?! Honestly, the nerve of this girl! How dare she ask us something like this. She could ask just about anyone else and no one would ever judge HER for whatever silly crush she’s dealing with! No matter how much blood is on her hands I doubt even the target of her affections would ever look at her with such… DISGUST . Korekiyo if you don’t get rid of her now I WILL.
Calm down Sister, she doesn’t know. And kicking her out for such a trivial mistake would be rather uncalled for, would it not? We don’t need her looking into us. Let’s just try to be more reasonable here-
And what, risk you saying too much again? You were pushing it as it was when you let that boy sidetrack you after you tried giving away that damned key! We both know what would happen to you if they find out, even if we do keep my current condition or my friends under wraps! They’d still look at you that way.
Regardless of how little it concerns them they’d still judge you, mock you, reject you, for this. For us .
Just like everyone else did. It always plays out the same, and these people will be no different Korekiyo.
And if I or the friends you’ve made for me do come to light they may very well try to kill you for it! Even if the blood you’ve shead for my sake couldn’t possibly compare to any of her measly blood money hits, or maybe not even match that of Killer Tennis’ bodycount, they’d see you as the threat. And what then?
I know Sister! I… I’m sorry. For everything you… that WE were put through before. But I can handle this.
“... If Ryoma gave you this impression then you know surely he’d be a better person for you to ask about this yes? As far as I’m concerned matters of the heart are a strictly private issue, not one for discussing.”
“Well I- I don’t know how I feel." She stammered, torn between looking embarassed and angered. "It could be something else. The closest I’ve come to feeling something like this was for a girl I knew back at the orphanage. Ryoma and Kaito tell each other everything so I can’t just ask him about anything…”
Okay. So she doesn’t need any personal information about this from me, just an outsider’s perspective. That… isn’t so bad. I just need to keep her the focus of this and act as an interactive sounding board.
BROTHER?!
Oh come now, can you really tell me you aren’t a little curious about our little assassin developing a crush on the world’s densest space cadet? Don’t forget who was the one bringing you those romance novels you’d ask for when you were ill. I remember what you like. And who knows where this could lead?
That was not the same thing! … But fine. If only to further mess with that awful boy. She suits him.
“So you are conflicted on if this is a crush or more… friendly or familial affections? For our own Kaito?”
The shade of the blush on her face alone was almost worth the literal headache, and heartache, that came with his sister’s frustration. For such a cold killer her range of expressions never ceased to amaze.
“... Something like that.” Maki mumbled, though it looked more like she was talking to her poorly re-tied and battered bow than to Korekiyo with her face still aflame. Red was certainly a color that suited her.
“So not quite? Are you also trying to sort out what you felt for your “friend” back then was too?”
“Maybe. So… How would I know?” It was likely a good thing she was too focused on her own thoughts to notice any of Korekiyo’s discomfort as she redirected things back to him. But there was an easy fix here.
“I couldn’t say. For some friends can be just as important as a lover, and to some others even more so. This is what part of what makes it so personal. How much do you think they mean to you?”
“... I’d be more upset if something happened to Kaito than the rest of you. No offense, but that’s really not saying much in this situation. But I was willing to kill for her. So she wouldn’t be forced to.”
“To be fair willing to kill for his sake here would be suicide at best and detrimental to you both at worst. Is that why you’re suspecting you may have felt more for her than just friendship or surrogate sibling?”
Bad move brother. What exactly are you going to say if she can’t figure out if her feelings for this girl were “sisterly” or “romantic”? And you could stand to be just a littleoffended by her lack of concern.
“A bit. I mean… It wouldn’t be normal to develop feelings in a place like this in such a short amount of time, would it?”
“It’s actually more common for strong bonds to develop quickly in times of great stress so it’s far from unusual. Which is why asking someone like Kibo, Kaede, or even Tenko may be more useful to you here.”
“I think you just mean Kaede, the other two aren’t exactly open-minded about me. And if I did Kaito might find out what I asked her about. Or worse Kokichi. He’s been hanging around her a lot lately.”
That would be a lot of fun. Maybe you should tell Oma anyway? It might make him less wary of you.
Sister no. Living is very much to our benefit at present.
“Fair point. Would it be so bad to just try talking to Kaito about this? He’s brash, but not inconsiderate.”
Korekiyo figured the glower he received was answer enough. So much for simply cutting this Gordian Knot. “No need to give me that look, I am being serious. If he had any existing relationships I’m sure he’d say so by now and he’s not the sort of person to play with a girl’s honest emotions. Would it hurt to try?”
You would know all about that, wouldn’t you little brother? Not always a girl’s honest emotions either. But they are ever so fun to toy with, aren’t they? Especially when something in them finally breaks.
“Fine. I guess I’ll think about it. And if any rumors start floating around before then you’re a dead man.”
“That’s a bit drastic wouldn’t you say? It’s not like you or he have been particularly subtle, as I’m sure you’ve noticed from the way Kokichi has tried teasing you both before. But rest assured, I won’t talk.”
“That would be a change.” Maki deadpanned, smirk naturally falling into place with it’s signature quirk.
Almost sad to consider an adorable if unusual physical feature like that might be part of why she hadn’t been adopted by a normal family when she still had a chance. Vanity could make people be ever so cruel.
“Alright, poor phrasing on my part. But it’s not like I’m one to participate in gossip anyway. Honestly I’d have much preferred going into the story connected to the paw you have so graciously given me than something of this nature. Or even how your work has affected your own views on the concept of death.”
“The one with the three wishes that keep going wrong? I think I’ve heard that one before. I think I’ll stop taking up your time though, just in case Kirumi comes by to check on you again. And… Thank you. It was nice to see Ryoma was right. You aren’t as much of a creepy weirdo as you could be. My words, not his.”
… How is an assassin able to be so blind to our intentions brother? Are you sure she isn’t toying with us?
It’s hardly like I’ve had any actual intent to kill around her. Not like Kirumi has. It makes sense she’d be more on Maki’s radar than I am. If you look suspicious enough sometimes you stop being suspicious.
And other times it just puts you on a fast track to be on a first name basis with the local sheriff. Again.
And yet that familiarity served its purpose, as they were still none the wiser and saw nothing wrong with me leaving town as a result even after her delightful daughter “ran away from home”, did it not?
He couldn’t help but laugh a little at the irony of it all while he gave her a partial bow as she departed. “Kehehe. I’m not sure your assessment, blunt as it was, is truly accurate. But I appreciate your praise, such as it is, all the same and do sincerely wish you the best. I’ll be rooting for you, so take care, Maki.”
He couldn’t really afford to spend too much time here himself though either. Kirumi would be less likely to do anything tonight if there was a chance he was still in earshot, and she already made an excuse if anyone rightly thought he was in bed when her crime was being committed with her Monopad trick.
It was tempting to at least try paying Angie one last visit before he left, but all things considered he thought better of it. Too much evidence against him could make proving Kirumi’s guilt harder if Kaede won’t be there to help anymore. But he could live with his last memory of Angie before her death being one that ended on poorer terms. He’s certainly had worse with all the friends he’s helped his sister make.
Getting back to the dorms was rather uneventful at any rate, but it was a small comfort for him to know that Gonta and Ryoma both made it clear they saw him. Witnesses will be a great boon in proving his innocence if the class turns out to be more inclined to trust Kirumi’s word over his own tomorrow. Gonta even insisted on walking back with him, to help ensure Korekiyo was indeed following the curfew now.
What will he and the others do with their leader gone? Would the cult remain without her guidance, or simply fall apart due to a loss of faith? Who would fill the voids Angie and Kaede would leave behind? Kaito? Kibo? Certainly not Kokichi, the imp’s too fond of implicitly pushing people to do what he wants.
He had ample time to think as he got ready for bed. It might not take as much time to undress and take off his sister’s preferred makeup than it does to put everything on but that wasn’t saying much.
Not to mention donning his sleeping mask and whatnot afterward. Sister was a tad too impatient to be in control when their body needed to rest so that was hardly an optional step for him anymore.
But before he entered his slumber he still had one question he needed to ask her first. And as there was no risk of interruptions they wouldn’t need to be as quiet this time. She did prefer to speak for herself.
“Sister, do you suppose voting for Kirumi tomorrow would be enough involvement for her spirit to reach you? I know indirect killings are far less reliable, but it could still work could it not?”
It wasn’t really his hand that reached to pull his mask down anymore, as odd a sensation as it was to lose control of his own body. Though it wasn’t “lost” as much as it was freely given. She didn’t even need to remove his mask to take full control, but it helped make it easier to avoid acting unusually around others.
It was more a ritual with a symbolic restraint they shared than an actual necessity for their symbiosis. Fitting considering its unconventional design, serving as a “fetish” for them in more ways than one.
She used the closest she could manage to her own voice as she answered him. “ How should I know little brother? The only chance we had to really test this was during that first execution, and you had voted for Miss Akamatsu rather than risk introducing me to a boy like Saihara by mistake back then did you not? ”
“Right, of course. But it would be nice to be able to make you two friends tomorrow instead of just one. Then we’d only need one more. Would you rather it be Tenko or Tsumugi? It won’t matter if I’m caught.”
“ Curb your impatience Korekiyo. It makes me happy to see you’re still thinking ahead, but do be careful. Over-eagerness can easily lead to one’s undoing so we mustn’t get too greedy just yet. We can’t let our emotions hasten your judgements and risk making a fatal error this close to our goal. First, we see how things will go. Then I’ll consider our options. Just focus on getting some rest for now, my sweet Korekiyo. ”
“Right, of course. My apologies. Goodnight Sister.”
He felt her response more than heard it as a hand reached to grip his shoulder while the other went around his waist. The closest either of them could get to anything resembling an embrace anymore.
Korekiyo ignored any sense of loneliness the gesture gave him in favor of basking in its intent. He should be used to this by now. And there’s nothing unusual about his pleasures having some pain intertwined.
It’s just a shame not all pains are of a sort I can find pleasure in. But it won’t be for much longer now.
The next day he had nearly finished getting ready for the day when something began pounding on his door. Odd as he hadn’t even heard the morning announcement begin yet, much less the one that signified a body discovery. Things were made odder still as it was Kaito he found on the other side looking ragged, like a man at the end of his rope, rather than a furious Tenko out for his blood.
“Did you have anything to do with this?!”
“... That depends what “this” would be. I’d offer you a good morning but it’s a bit late for that now yes? Did something happen that I should be aware of?” His answer gave Kaito some comfort as he calmed down a bit. Not the announcement choosing that particular moment to come to life helped that any.
Korekiyo really should have tried standing further away from his room’s monitor since he knew this should be coming. Or done something to help brace for how loud its parody of a school chime would be. He did so loathe loud noises like this, almost as much as he hated being bound to one place for too long.
“Okay, so you really didn’t know? That… That’s good at least. It’s in your lab, come on.”
Kaito obviously wasn’t in the mood for much talking so Korekiyo was content to merely follow his lead rather than ask questions. There wasn’t too much he felt he needed to really ask yet anyway.
Not until he saw a familiar head of silver hair in the hallway outside of his lab. Still happily bobbing along as per the usual for her, talking to Tenko standing beside her. At least Tenko hadn’t lost another friend.
Kukuku, I guess Miss Tojo wasn’t as predictable as you thought? This is good though, we haven’t lost my chance to be friends with her just yet. But whose body will we find now I wonder? Did she go for Hoshi after all?
This would explain Kaito’s current state. Or at least his response further narrowed down their options. But it wasn’t Ryoma’s body he found on the floor of his lab, lying there broken and bloody.
It was Maki’s.
It made sense Korekiyo supposed, even if the possibility slipped his mind before.
If Ryoma’s crimes helped ease any issues Kirumi could have with killing one of her citizens then so would Maki’s current profession. And if Kirumi was caught she could argue she acted for the good of the group.
But that doesn’t make this hurt any less does it? I told you, you should raise your standards little brother. Having friends like her would obviously only lead to pain or disappointment for you. They always do.
Never. This is... Bearable. And it's well worth the time spent with her. The same applies for everyone else here. Observing them all has been both informative and for the most part enjoyable, even with these... risks.
He could hardly even tell where the red of the blood ended and that of her clothing began anymore. He’d swear parts of the blood nearly looked pink against her crimson if he wasn’t looking directly at it. Seeing the mask sloppily laid over her face didn’t help either. Particularly given whose it really was.
But he knew better than to let any discomfort show. There was no need for it and it wouldn’t help.
All he needed to do was make sure her death wasn’t a waste.
Korekiyo looked over to where Kaede and Kirumi were talking as he weighed his options one last time.
Maki may have never been admirable enough to be one of Sister’s friends but at least he could make sure her killer would soon be joining her. And his dearest sister was still in dire need of some company.

So, now that Volume 5 is over, we all have a question in mind
Who’s going to join Team JN_R?
Nobody can replace Pyrrha, but I think Jaune’s team needs to fill the void left. And there are four characters who could fill that role quite well.
1. Oscar Pine
Tumblr media
- The most likely and obvious option, since he is one of the most plot-relevant characters. Plus, he has already spent some time with the gang.
- With him, Team JNPR would be back, or they could become Team ORNJ, seeing that his design has orange in it (sorry, Jaune).
- While Oscar himself isn’t that strong yet, Ozpin is a seasoned fighter, which could fit Pyrrha’s “overpowered crutch teammate” niche.
- While Ruby and Zwei already exist, I think it’s possible that Oscar is based off Dorothy from “The Mage of Oz”, seeing he lived with his aunt in a farm. Thus, he’d be of the opposite gender to the character he was inspired on.
2. Ilia Amitola
Tumblr media
- While not as relevant to the plot as Oscar, she is a very possible candidate to join Jaune’s team.
- With her name, they could be Team JuNIpeR, or even Team JuNIoR.
- Girl with a ponytail and a crush in someone else.
- Atlas, the kingdom known for its faunus discrimination, is the next destination, so it’d be fascinating to see how Ilia deals with coming back and with the racism now that he is with the good guys and, especially, with Blake by her side.
- It’s be interesting to see how she interacts with JNR, considering that she probably hasn’t interacted with a human in a long time. I want to see her befriending them, even if it’s hard for her.
- Futhermore, I’d like to have both another faunus and a LGBTA character in the main cast.
3. Emerald Sustrai
Tumblr media
- Hazel and Emerald are the most sympathetic antagonists in Salem’s faction. She expressed sadness when Beacon fell, and it looks like the only reason she followed Cinder was because she was the first person to “love” her.
- Now that Cinder is (apparently) dead, two things might happen with Emerald: either she enrolls in a quest of revenge against the gang or she leaves Salem because the only thing that mattered to her is no longer there.
- A find curious how in “The more the merrier”, Emerald outright stated that she only cared about Cinder, when Ruby asked her. Two episodes later, Cinder fell. I imagine this was foreshadowing a possible redemption arc for Emerald (tbh I don’t think Mercury will be redeemed, since he hasn’t expressed guilt or remorse at all).
- If she joined Jaune, they could be Team JuNipER.
- Joining Ruby’s side would mean Emerald would have to deal with all the guilt of Beacon’s fall, possibly causing friction with Ruby because of Penny’s death. (does Ruby know that Emerald’s Semblance made Pyrrha kill Penny?).
- To me, the most meaningful relationship would be with Nora, since she was in a pretty similar situation back when she met Ren. They could bond over that, meaning more development for Nora, we could get to see what happened after Kuroyuri’s destruction and a moment between them like  “ I wish I had someone like him back then" "You have us now!"
- If she is based off Aladdin, then she is the opposite gender to the character she makes allusion to. Futhermore, (as someone else pointed out [thank you!]) Aladdin pretended to be a prince (at least in Disney’s version), which could be interpreted as “pretending to be something you’re not,” akin to JNPR’s crossdressing theme.
4. Penny Polendina
Tumblr media
-  IWantToBelieve.jpg
- Nothing Atlesian duct tape can’t fix.
- Redhead with green eyes
- A strong fighter, and one of the few who could stand up to Pyrrha.
- Best Girl Club member.
- Dead (but she is the only character that could theorically be brought back to life, since she is an android).
- Has the P for JNPR.
- Inspired in Pinoccio, which means a) opposite gender to the character she alludes, and b) Pinoccio pretended to be something he wasn’t (a real boy).
- We’re going to Atlas next volume, and they teased us back then with who is most likely Penny’s father/creator (Gepeto?). We haven’t seen the last of Penny.
-  tfw the robot your dead no girlfriend accidentally killed joins your team
Well, those are my guesses, but I think it’s mostly between Oscar and Ilia tbh. One can dream.
Who would you want it to be?
