Steven Universe Anon here
I'm sorry I used that term to describe the Diamonds. It's something that's been thrown around and it always stuck in my head. It's why I used "".
But still, I rewatched Rebecca's interview about that song and it just makes me love her even more.
Rebecca Sugar is everything Vivienne Medrano isn't.
Honest, heartfelt, and genuine. I may have issues with Steven Universe, but it's way more mature than Viv's shows. Rebecca can actually write queer, complex female characters and is a talented musician. And has tackled way heavier stuff that Viv refuses to touch because she wants to be safe.
Like, she has instruments for each of the main characters and motifs for them. Her songs are so fucking GOOD and come from a very sensitive and creative place.
What do we get from Viv? "Fuck you this is my 2 mins notice fuck you!!!" "Your fist in my A" "Imma klown bitch" "it's like a feeling like a rumbling in your gut" "have you ever wanted something that was so clear in your mind?" "For the first time in our lives we are ready for this" "I need to be ready for this" "cotton candy" "let them eat cotton candy" "champagne fountains, caviar mountains that's just-"
Rebecca's body language and voice is so soft and is devoid of any deceit that Viv so clearly has. Watching her at GlitchX and seeing an interview with Sam H where all she does is nod all the time and pretends to be more professional than she actually is, proved to me that there's a wolf hiding under there.
I actually have a tattoo of Malachite and fucking showed Rebecca herself and she loved it. I always was afraid I'd end up regretting having an SU tattoo because of the internet making fun of SU awhile ago and pointing out the shows issues.
But now I don't regret it at all and I only fucking love SU even more.
I will always champion Rebecca and Steven Universe. Flaws and all.
https://youtu.be/YbBaGRboDVs?feature=shared
Nah, don't worry about it. Like you said, it's a thing the fandom throws around, I just wish they wouldn't. But yes, this is was beautifully said.
Rebecca's not perfect, no one is, but she does come across as such a gentle, thoughtful person. She forgot her beloved stuffed animal in her garden and came back to half of it faded and the experience of realizing it had changed without her, and been changed forever through her carelessness, colors her writing to this day.
Vivzie, who takes childish shots at her critics' follower counts, thought it was hilarious when her dad would hit on women in front of her and writes about that.

things i like to imagine from songs i listen to
hehehehe i have the ability to imagine but my writing skills are absolute crap. there’s just one prompt that has a specific character because i’m a simp. write your own story for fun if it gives you inspiration!! i think all of them are pretty vague, sorry :(
MOSTLY FLUFF, ONE(two?)(kinda?)HURT-ISH
•you bet i stare (by banes world)- being the kamisato siblings’ childhood friend means going to the estate more often. thoma likes seeing you but won’t admit it
•you might be sleeping (by jakob, clairo)- after the first night of sleeping over at your comfort characters place, you think they might leave when you’re still asleep. you were proved wrong
•dancing (by mellow fellow)- you’re your comfort characters childhood friend. they want to dance with you and tell you how they feel
•is there a place i can go (by trudy and the romance)- you’re stressed and don’t know where to go or what to do. your comfort character comes to the rescue (this song makes me cry for some reason ;w;)
•she makes me wanna die (by jindie)- comfort character keeps trying to court you but you’re oblivious
•someone to spend time with (by los retros)- you and your comfort character has plushies of each other because of shift difference and can’t spend much time together
•last day on the earth (by los retros)- nearing the end of the world, maybe it’s not so bad spending the last day on the earth with them (alternate sad vibe would be “as the world caves in” by matt maltese)
•tú (by maye)- you’re just the best thing that happened to your comfort character, vice versa (this song makes me feel hella fluffy)
•hard to say goodbye (by johnny stimson)- comfort character has to leave but just can’t because you’re flipping adorable
•like or like like (by miniature tigers)- comfort character can never stay calm because you give them too much butterflies, they finally give in and ask you the question
•love like you (by rebecca sugar)- comfort character teaches you how to love, them and yourself :,)
if any of you talented people write any of this please tag me so i can indulge in it. or if you change or combine any tiny bits it’s all good. i hope you guys enjoy this.

The Real You Review
Finn and Jake deliver a model of the Candy Kingdom made from Finn’s saliva. It’s cool to see Finn’s spit talent still in use. Although, I’m not sure if Princess Bubblegum would have liked it. The background music in this scene “A Blip and a Bubble” is also phenomenal. Bubblegum is holding a science conference and asks Finn to speak there. She definitely knows Finn isn’t a genius and that he…struggles cognitively. She even says she wants him to speak for his heroism. Finn being a member of an endangered species is also another reason scientists may be interested. Finn still worries he’ll sound stupid in front of all the brainiacs. Is this Finn revealing insecurities about how he views himself or is he just worried about impressing his crush? I think both. It plays into his fear of his friends looking down on him for being younger and probably less intelligent. I love Jake shapeshifting into a bag for Finn to hyperventilate into. It’s a perfect representation of Jake’s role in the series.
Finn and Jake go to the library for some knowledge in its first appearance. It’s not really Finn and Jake’s kind of place. They get distracted and start making noises. I have no idea how they are able to make noises just from blinking. We learn Turtle Princess’s status as a librarian. Is the library her kingdom? Is she a princess who happens to be a librarian? Is it a Doctor Princess type deal? We’ll never find out!
Finn and Jake try going to a college for worms. Finn somehow guesses the name of an enrolled, absent student: Wormy McSquirmy. Missed opportunity to not have McSquirmy at Shelby’s party in “Little Brother”! The teacher orders the students to kill Finn and Jake for truancy. Was this scene written by someone who had recurring college nightmares? The fight between tiny worms and Finn’s finger is really cool.
It’s great to see Choose Goose again. He sells Finn the Glasses of Nerdicon in exchange for entertainment. I like how easily amused Choogles is. The glasses make you look like a nerd and make you a genius. Literally the opposite of what happened to Simon! Could the glasses have cured him? When Finn puts the glasses on, we see the Earth. It’s blink and you miss it but there’s a giant crater in the Earth. This starts a new mystery. But, it’s not hard to connect the dots considering we know Ooo is post-apocalyptic.
Finn returns to the conference for his speech. What looks like MoCo robots are in the audience? Finn is very snobby. The one similarity the glasses have to the ice crown are how crazy, scary, and intense it makes Finn. His invention is sick. He blows two, three, and four-dimensional bubbles. He sadly skips 1D. I also wanted to see the 4D bubble’s three-dimensional shadow! The 4D bubble creates a black hole. Finn knew this would happen. He basically tried to murder all these people for the educational value. What purpose is having this education if you won’t be alive to use it? Finn's line “we are all born to die” comes from something a babysitter told Rebecca Sugar when she was a kid that stuck with her. What a strange thing to say to a small child!
PB gets Finn to take his glasses off. It’s sweet how PB reveals that she likes Finn for who he is. Finn’s sword is turned 4D from his bubble blower. The sword looks awesome and he uses it to destroy the black hole. It’s a very clever solution and the only way Finn could have really stopped it. The destruction causes Finn to permanently lose his original, iconic golden sword, Scarlet. It’s never been called Scarlet in the series but it’s named that in multiple video games. The fandom has basically accepted it as its canon name. RIP Scarlet. Finn doesn’t ever talk about losing this sword and he doesn’t seem upset like he does when he loses his future swords. It probably doesn’t have the same emotional connection to Finn. We never saw how Finn got it so we don’t know its backstory. Whenever Finn loses a sword, it signals an end of an era in Adventure Time. This time, it’s the classic era.
The attendants end up loving the science conference. PB reads Finn’s bulleted plan. The list includes “win the heart of the princess”. Even when under the influence of the glasses, Finn was still crushing on and pursuing Bubblegum! PB indulges his crush once more and kisses him, causing him to faint.
This is the first episode in a while, not since “Ricardio the Heart Guy”, that we’ve had a plot about Finn’s love for PB. It also has a simple, nice message about being yourself.
Grade: A-

Why It Worked: Steven Universe
Introduction: Steven Universe is an animated fantasy comedy drama about a little boy and 3 alien beings who protect the Earth from monsters and nefarious villains. Created by Rebecca Sugar, the show premiered on November 4, 2013 on Cartoon Network and ran for 5 seasons with a total of 160 episodes plus a made for tv movie and an epilogue series. The show has recieved great reviews with an average rating of 8.1/10 on Imdb and has recieved numerous of awards and nominations. When I first saw this show, I was immediately hooked and intrigued by it's concept and execution. I've made it no secret since that I wholeheartedly love this show. So to commemorate Rebecca Sugar's 34th birthday, I'm going to go into detail why this show resonated with me so well.
Premise and Execution: On a surface level, Steven Universe is a monster of the week/slice of life show with fantastical elements thrown in as well as musical numbers (more on that later). It's a unique set up but where the show soars is in the execution. Each episode is dedicated to Steven either interacting with the residents of Beach City or stopping the bad guys through his empathetic nature. If an episode isn't expanding the wonderful world of Steven Universe, it's just 11 minutes of Steven hanging out with his friends. This show also does a spectacular job handling its themes on love, empathy, sexuality, friendship and anxiety. One of the best episodes of the show, Mindful Education, is solely about dealing with anxiety. In addition to being very well written, the show is also really funny. While there are some jokes that are at best smirk worthy, more often than not they get a genuine laugh out of me. The funniest episode by far is Kindergarten Kid, which finds Steven Peridot and Amethyst try to catch a corrupted Gem. It's a straight up Looney Tunes homage and it had me in stitches by the end. What truly makes this show standout is its incredible animation brought to life by Summin Image Pictures and Rough Draft Korea. The character designs are a nice blend of different shapes and sizes allowing for various expressions. Steven's round body makes him look cuddly and cute, Pearl is slim and poised, Garnet has a box shaped head and is more intimidating and Amethyst is perfectly short yet has a flowing mane. The animation utilizes squash and stretch really well, particularly in the action and comedy scenes. The backgrounds are well detailed and lively, the colors are bright and beautiful and the effects really enhance the experience. From both a writing and visual standpoint, Steven Universe is a very well put together show that's made better with its characters.
Cast and Characters: I find it astonishing just how well rounded and lovable each of the main characters are. Starting with our titular hero, Steven is a happy go lucky kid with a big heart who slowly but sure learns to master his Gem powers. Above that though, he's a naturally kind kid who tries to see the good in others. The Crystal Gems each have defined personalities and act as role models for Steven. Pearl is motherly, punctual and elegant, Amethyst is carefree, funny and snarky and Garnet is stoic, wise and loving. Throughout the series they grow and develop as characters and their bonds grows stronger with each passing challenge. Steven's Dad, Greg, is without a doubt one of the best cartoon Dad's I've ever seen. He's fun, caring, smart, a talented musician and a really helpful ally. Even if he's not as familiar with Gem knowledge, he's still more than willing to help his son. Connie started off as the girl Steven saw once at a parade but with each subsequent appearance, she grows to be his best friend and a great ally. She's smart, resourceful, a great student and is generally kind and caring. What truly brings these characters to life is the amazing voice acting on display. Zach Callison was perfect as Steven, making him sound so innocent yet very brave and caring. Plus his voice depending due to puberty never felt jarring or awkward. Deedee Magno Hall perfectly captures the motherly nature of Pearl and makes her sound so elegant and proper. Michaela Dietz nails Amethyst's rambunctious personality and makes her sound like a natural tomboy. Estelle gives a beautiful performance as Garnet, making her sound so seasoned and full of wisdom. Tom Scharpling perfectly captures Greg's personality as this former musician who now lives his life as a full time Dad. Grace Rolek gave a great performance as Connie, making her sound so smart and brave, yet still maintaining that childlike innocence to her.
Super Supporting Players: The supporting cast deserves major props for not just making their mark on the show but actually growing as the show continues. Starting with Lars, he starts out as the typical teenager with teenager problems, yet as the show continues he becomes much more sympathy and likable even. Sadie starts out as someone who just wants to get by, but becomes much more open and well rounded as the show continues. Other residents of Beach City that make strong first impressions include Buck (the mayor's son), Sour Cream (a DJ), the Pizza family, Onion (Sour Cream's brother), Mr. Smiley, Jamie, and Ronaldo (yes really). On to the Gem side, most of them started off as antagonists but were later reformed and became very likable characters. Peridot started off as a calculated antagonist that was simply following orders, yet after she spends some time with Steven, she becomes a naive yet very funny character that's curious about what Earth is like. Lapis Lazuli started off resenting the Crystal Gems for imprisoning her in a mirror, but after a while she becomes a helpful ally who may not find Earth as interesting as Peridot, but they maintain a good relationship. Jasper is an antagonist through and through and relishes in harming the main characters. Then there are the Diamonds, the true antagonists of the show. While they're all distinct in personality, they all have the same goal: to see Earth be transformed into a Gem colony. Yellow Diamond is stern and commanding, Blue is generally sad, but can be menacing when she has to be and White is commited to have things be perfect and in order. They're set up throughout the show as the ruthless rulers of the Gem spieces and their reveals did not disappoint. The actors that portrayed these characters deserve just as much recognition as the main players. Shelby Rabara, Matthew Moy, Kate Micucci, Reagan Gomez-Preston, Zach Steel, Pattie LuPone, Lisa Hannigan, Christine Ebersole and everyone else did great jobs bringing the characters to life.
The Beauty Of Rose Quartz: Yes I'm dedicated an entire paragraph to Rose Quartz because not only is she a great character, but she's basically the back bone of the entire show. Rose was tasked with colonizing Earth, but once she discovered its true beauty, she made a different call. She then met Greg and gave up her physical form to give birth to Steven. The Gems and Greg talk about her all the time and she's seen in flashbacks and we learn more and more about her throughout the show. The general consensus is that she was a brave, kind, caring Gem who saw the beauty in all living things. That said, she wasn't without her flaws as she withheld information from others, particularly from Pearl. One thing that remained constant about her character though is that she wanted Steven to see the beauty of this world, even if she wouldn't be there to see it with him. One of the biggest reveals in the show (which I WON'T spoil) just made it all click and made me love the character even more. What truly makes Rose memorable though is the amazing vocal performance of Susan Egan. In contrast from the sassy Meg from Disney's Hercules, Egan portrays Rose as such a caring and kind figure who loved seeing the beauty in this world.
Songs and Music: Every other episode in this show has a musical number and they're all varying degrees of upbeat, lively and catchy. Some of my personal favorite songs include Cookie Cats for how upbeat and funny it is, Giant Woman for how livly and musical it is, Stronger Than You for being an amazing action song and Here Comes a Thought for it's great message. Of course, the theme song itself is amazing as it sounds like an announcement made by Steven himself introducing himself and the Crystal Gems ad they're about to enter a fight. There's also the entire episode of Mr. Greg which is essentially an 11 minute musical; it still astounds me how they managed to pull that off without making feel rushed or undercooked. Also gotta give credit to Aivi and Surasshu for provided an excellent score for each episode, making sure each character had distinct musical cues as well as making the background music feel natural and lively.
Where It Falters: I have but one gripe about the show and it's really a small bit of criticism: it's too Steven focused. What I mean by that is episodes such as The New Crystal Gems and 3 Gems and A Baby could've worked just fine if not better had Steven not be present to hear about it. Don't get me wrong, I love Steven and I respect that this show is told from his perspective. I'd just prefer an episode or 2 be soley focused on the other characters without him being present.
Conclusion: Steven Universe is hands down my personal favorite Cartoon Network show and one of the best animated shows I've had the pleasure to watch. With great writing, amazing animation, a stellar voice cast, lovable characters and catchy songs, it's no wonder this show has developed such a strong cult following. I intentionally didn't talk about all the big reveals of this show as I feel there as still many people who haven't seen it yet. If you're one of those people, feel free to give the show a watch on HBOMax when you get a chance. Trust me, you'll be in for a real treat. Thanks so much for reading and I'll see you in the next blog post ;)

Have you hang around with Rebecca Sugar that often you know the creator of Steven Universe.
Not really, but I remember following her work on Adventure Time and was blown away. She’s so crazy-talented. I love how her drawings feel. I remember speaking to her at a party once? It was right when Steven Universe got greenlit. She was really kind and humble.

Goodbye Steven Universe
a season 1 vibe drawing to say goodbye to the show… I’m feeling a lot of things right now, but I’m mainly very excited to see the final episodes airing tonight! ⭐️
I just can’t express how much I love this show, it inspires me in so many ways, I think it is one of the most important thing that happened in my life? I know it might sound silly but like really, it affected me so much, I don’t think I would be the same person if I would have never watched it. I think I just want to cry a lot?? But even if it is over (isn’t it?), life will go on, and this show will continue to inspire me in the future, no matter what. Steven Universe, you truly are a gem in this world. 💎⭐️💕
(Sorry for the long personal text below, feel free to read it or not!)
So Steven Universe is ending today.
I was already a big fan of Rebecca Sugar when she was working on Adventure Time, I really loved listening to her song demos. I think I was like, 11 back then? And then when su started I heard about her new show, watched it a few times, and I remember asking my brother one day when he was watching an episode on tv “is it good?” and the first episode that made me really watch the show, if I remember, was Giant woman (also first song I learned! There’s still a little vid of me singing and playing it on the piano on my Instagram), and that was around 2015 I think. Then really fell in love with ruby and sapphire when jail break came out. I always loved the feeling of excitement I had when new episodes were airing, it almost felt like butterflies in my stomach, and my heart was beating!! (you can tell how much I’m in love with this show haha) And discovering the story over the years was such a great experience!! Steven Universe made me want to learn playing the ukulele, it taught me about self love and self care, it made me realize things about myself, it taught me to be a better and kinder person and having compassion, it helped me with anxiety (especially with here comes a thought), now I like the color pink haha it made me progress with my art (I drew a LOT of Steven Universe stuff), and I met a lot of new friends and artists!!
This show has amazing characters, who feel so real and human (yeah even gems), who you can identify with, sing with and cry with! Omg and yeah the music.... the music!!! It’s so beautiful, the songs as much as the soundtrack made by aivi and surasshu! The art style is also very pretty, the background artists are so talented!!! Like, wow!! Everyone in the team is talented and really just amazing people! The voice acting is perfect, the animation can go from very goofy to really fluid and pretty, the storyboarders are so creative, everyone in the crew worked so hard and with so much love on it! Thank you so much for everything Rebecca Sugar, and everyone who worked on the show.

Adventure Time: What Was Missing Review
We celebrate Bi-Visablity day with our first look at adventure time! We get our first true taste of Bubbline when the two are forced to work together along with Finn, Jake and BMO to try and get a door powered by music and honesty open to get their stuff back from a well meaning creep what stole it from them. Gay Subtext, Jake shapeshifted into billy idol and rpping off a childlike robot’s face insue. Quit the band and then rejoin the band when dramatically approriate under the cut.
Happy Bi Visablity Day! As you can tell i’m running behind, real life stuff coupled with not finding about this day until yesterday, something that for obvious reasons won’t happen again but i’m not going to stew in it too long. Point is it’s a good day, a proud day, and a day I naturally felt the need to celerbate as i’m bi myself, and have tons of bi characters I like, as seen by the fact that the two big arcs I covered for pride both had a bisexual as one of the main leads. However my pride reviews also left me in sort of a bind as i’d used up most of what was in my tank. Luckily I had a few ideas, and among them a review I INTENDED to get to for Pride Month, but my overestimating my own productivity meant some got shelved for later. SO let’s take this one off the shelf and talk about adventure time shall we? Adventure Time was my faviorite show once upon a time, being one of the front runners of the second annimation renisance of the 2010′s, it wasn’t a hgue suprise.. but it did take me a while to go from casually watching it to REALLY obessing over it, similar to regular show. Like Regular Show while the show wasn’t bad, it was just okay, with creative settings and what not but fairly simplistic characters. Season 2 would sharpen the comedy and add a smidge of emotoinal depth but it was with that season’s finale the show really showed what it could do: IN the same show that earlier in the season had a snail hyjack our heroes house and the two agree out of the kidness of hteir hearts and wanting hteir house back to help him get laid, we had a deathless, relentless monster who was determined to kill everything and voiced by ron goddamn perlman, who nearly succeded in beating our heroes and did end up possesing one of them and killing her for about 5 minutes. It showed the show could really step up in scope when it wanted while still getting really fucking weird and funny. So season 3 crystalized all that, still having tons of great comedy but also having episodes like Memory of a Memory, which not only gave Marcie’s rather sad and complicated backstory, or at least the first pre-simon part, and the infamous Holly Jolly Secrets where we found out local weirdo and king of incels and ice the ice king was actually once a meek researcher who put on a cursed crown and ended up slowly devolving into madness like something out of a john carpenter movie. The show really deepend the cast, while keeping tthe usual brisk tone and it paid off getting better and better, then backsliding a bit, then going back to better by the end. I did slide out of the show after a while, but I never really stopepd caring about it and the last year really made me step back and remmeber how much I loved it. And this episode is one of those reasons and one of the things that made season 3 what really defined the show. It was also one of the gayest episodes in cartoon history, before other cartoons actually got away with doing more. What Was Missing was written by future Steven Universe creator and all around Peach, Rebecca Sugar, who was part of why the show got so sucessfl and steered the ship for a few seasons before leaving to make Steven Universe and even more animation history. Seriously I can’t blame her for her current sabatacle: Whatever she does next is going to have the pressure to utterly change the game and no one wants to step into that right away after running a show for 6 years. So what makes this so great? Well let’s figure it out shall we?
The episode opens with Finn going to get his secret hunk of Princess Bublegum’s hair. Yup. I’ve had troulbe parsing this because what he’s doing is entirely wrong. BUTTTTT it’s also a 13 year old boy, said hair is naturally just a wad of gum, and the show clearly show’s he’s embrassed by the fact he still has this and that the person who thinks there’s nothing wrong with this is Jake, whose the same guy who once did this to his brother.
youtube
So while his longterm relationship shows h’es good with women he’s not a good judge of what’s approriate. But after teasing his brother and letting him know he knows about the hair, Jake offers to share his hidden possesion, his blankie.. before a weirdo with a key on his head comes in and steals the blankie, the hair wad, and BMO’s controller then creates a door in time and space and heads through. Our heroes chase after this dude through his doors as he steals a toy from a kid for.. some reason, it dosen’t quite synch up with his later motive, and something from Bubblegum, who comes with along with Marceline who seemingly has something stolen. Our quintent eventually chase the guy to a giant door that’s unopenable, the door of the door lords. PB explains what’s up: The dipstick who stole their stuff was a doorlord, a race that she attempted to lockup long ago.. but found it impossible “Because their doorlords” aka because you really can’t keep someone in prision who can just make a door out of it and whatever magic they had she clearly couldn’t contain, likely because of her later established hatred of magic and most likely just calmed down after that to avoid escalating things further. Or something. Why they never showed up again.. I really don’t know. The concept, a bunch of mysterious beings that can fold time and space and don’t talk, and as the episodewill prove have good intentions but go about them in a bad way, is really good and given the show had 7 more seasons after this, and started to really pile on the mythology, I question why this bit of it never came up again despite being really intresting.
Marcy chides her for not just killing them all, which is hilarious in hindsight to me. While they likely had’nt thought of it yet, her later backstory has her committing genocide on all the vampires of Ooo, hence why she’s the only one we see until Stakes. It just adds a bit of probably unintend depth to the line: Her ruthless, carefree pre-character development self probably just thinks that’s the easiest solution without considering the fact some of them may be innocent because she rarley considers anything. Just good character stuff.
So Finn reads the door which reveals the gimmick it has: to be opened it has to be a song sung by a genuine band.. and the genuine part is something I honestly dind’t think about first few times watching this, but is a nice hint at how to really get the door open. More on that later. Finn suggests starting said band since most of the mhave musical talent with Jake agreeing as long as he can be the group asshole.
Marcy, being the one who’s a musician for an unliving, is naturally the first to take charge, to Bubblegum’s annoyance but she suggests a chill jam, with Jake taking on a british accent, because 50% of all assholes in media are british and because only in britan could you sell an ep of you and your bandmate/brother fighting. No really that’s a thing that happened, thank yout odd in the shadows for letting me know that happened.
youtube
The best thing? This CHARTED. So yeah our band is formed and Marcy suggests a laidback jam and putting on a decent one that’s a nice gentle song about burying people in the ground but seems to be nice.. then it becomes clear what it’s about, and why there’s so much danged tension between her and bubblegum with one simple line. And it’s always a credit to a writer when you can pivot everything with a line, it’s a skill most need.
“I’m going to drink the red from your pretty pink face” Yeah there’s no real grey area here. This is about explicit as you can be with their former relationship without outright shouting “They were a thing once” Or having Marcy do an accoustic version of Jodeci’s Freak N You. Which is a thing I want now if anyone reading this has olivia olson’s ear, or if by some miracle she’s reading this in which case “Hi I really love your work also why in the hell are you reading this i’m not that good holy shit thank you”, please ask her to do that. And now we get to why I chose this one: I admit I put this one on the backburner because, as far as I was concerned, it wasn’t on screen full died in wool gay content.. and I was wrong. You have to take steps to get representation, fight hard, kick and claw and scratch and bite to get representation into media, let alone CHILDREN’S Media because god forbid we show kdis that GASP gay people exist and would give them slightly less money to throw at their competitors in money fights I assume bilionares have. just fuck off with this shit already, christ it’s 2020 and most shows that have had gay characters have gotten tons of attnetion and conservative assholes protesting it only makes the rest of us aware it exists and more liable to check it out. Fuck off and do the right thing you fucking greedy, selfish, incosidrat emorons.
That tyrade out of the way the point is representation takes time and Rebecca took a hell ofa risk to her florshing career pushing for this. You don’t get to steven universe without this episode, for a number of reasons, and you don’t get to all the other gay without an example to point to and say “see this works your being stupid,, stop being stupid and let us gay dammit”. So I felt this episode, and these two in general as we’ll get to in later reviews, deserved it’s fair due.
Back to the actual plot, Bubblegum responds to this mildly flirty and remotley suggestive line. with “Marceline, that’s too distastful” Peebs.. she just made a suggestivish metaphor about wanting to make out with you, she isn’t talking about how good your vagina tastes. which is probably really good because bubblegum is delcious but that’ snot a line of discourse i want to get into now or ever. MOre on this in a sec. Marcy naturally dosen’t take this well, nor should she, and launches into one of the series greatest songs and one of rebecca sugar’s best work, which is saying something. “I’m Just Your Problem”

Olivia Olson deserves credit too: While Rebecca wrote and composed this amazing bit of music, but her delivery is great, keeping the same tone the whole time while still singing beautifully and conveing just how.. hurt marcy is, with the excellent animation complimenting it. Rewatching it is a joy and I wish it hadn’t taken me this long to get back to the song again. It’s also a real tearjerker, in a way I didn’t even realize at the time, as the lyrics point out why Marcy is so upset with her: She’s frustrated with how PB seems to resent the fact that unilke her subjects she dosen’t worship her, she dosen’t do what she says.. befor edigging in deep, asking if THAT’S why she avoids her and really cuts both her and the audience deep with this line “It’s like i’m not even a person am I?” The animation also deserves credit for a moment.. I didn’t notice it before rewatching the song a few times for this review.. but while PB starts and ends the song angry... around this part she looks hurt.. like for one moment her stoic, needs ot be in control, needs to be mature and queenly at all times mask is broken and she’s shaken by realizing just how much she hurt her. It says VOLUMES about what they used to be without giving us a full backstory and it’s wonderful. She still cares.. she just can’t express it properly. Marcy continues her muscial slam saying she dosen’t need to justify herself, and that she dosen’t need to apologize, and shouldn’t be as the gate almostopens.. only for it to stop when Marcy refuses to be open. And that gets to the heart of why the two fell apart back then, whenever back then was and what’s obvious from here: Both have a habit of holding people at arms length emotoinally but both are such VASTLY diffrent people they couldn’t get through each others walls. For Marcy she’s immortal and has gone through a few hundered years of watching anyone she cares about die, loosing her mother, having her biological dad abandon her and be utterly terrible at actually connecting with her or being empathetic anyway, and having her surrogate dad slowly go insane and having HIM abandon her too if for her own good and then presumibly finding him later as a horrifying shell of his former self, and her ex boyfriend solkd the one reminder she HAD of said man and insulted her over it. She’s had a hard, devistating life and as we see her at this point she keeps people at arms length because she knows they won’t last, it taking some time for her to stop treating finn like a toy to play with and start treating him like her friend and realize that even with her immortality just jackassing around for hundreds of years willl only make her more miserable. PB also does.. but it’s becaue she’s a very regimented person who belivies things have to be one thing, is utterly rigid in her way of thinking, and rules her people with a benveolnt cnady coated iron fist. She means well, can care about people and is better at forming connectoins despite knowing they’ll be fleeting.. but also has a bad habit of just.. not thinking about what others FEEL just waht’s best to them. She opresses her people, spies on them, locked up an innocent child instead of helping her or adopting her like she clearly needed, and tried to genocide a whole race of robots simply because they MIGHT be a threat to her world. PB at this stage needs things so structured and so her way, she forgets sometimes.. she’s wrong. Wheras Marcy sees her immortality as a curse and hides it behind a seemingly carefree nature, PB sees it as neccity but let it cut her off from other people, still brefirend and love them but hold them a ta distance so she could do the things that needed to be done, the work that needed doing ot insure her people surivive forever and she dosen’t outlive them. Both have been left stunted by their immortality, and both were in no shape for a relationship, thouguh while I’m sure marcy didn’t help with her issues with honesty, PB probably did the most damage, both not wanting to risk something outside her perfectly consttructed bubble threanting things, and not being able to resist trying to control her lover instead of treat her as an equal. Thankfully both would get better and by present day the two are toegheter or about to be, and both in the place for that to actually WORK. But this shows sometimes relationships just dont work because your not ready yet.. but that you CAN get a second chance, and the one benfiit of being immortal is you don’t have as big a risk as dying without having that chance come up.
But yeah this fails, and while Jake storms off, Finn tries to have a friendly pasta dinner to keep everyone left together, with Marcy going to get a hot pot for them, and plugging it into BMO which is neat. It’s PB”s turn and she just tries harmonics and it ends up sounding like a worse version of that song bill and ted play at the begniing of face the music.. and THAT probably woudlv’e worked better.
At this point everyone falls apart with Marcy spitting on PB, PB walking off in a huff and jake leaving because it’s that part of the true hollywood music story. Also he’s shapeshifted into billy idol, which is awesome. It’s then we get the second song of the episode.. and one every bit as good as the masterpiece above.
youtube
Finn laments what happened, in song because of course, before admitting how he just wanted htem all together.. and wonders if their even his friends.. as the door glows and he finally realizes what opens it: The truth. This is where the genuine hint comes back together.. the genuine wasn’t in talent.. itw as in emotoinal honesty. I really haven’t talked about Finn a bunch this review, mostly because he’s mostly just trying to help and be earnest.. but this scene beautifully ties that together showing that deep down, Finn is bothered by how dismisive the others can be of him sometimes and wonders if he’s a “Joke, your knight or your brother” That sometimes he wonders if they care. It’s both relatable as hell and really fits the character, showing PB’s sometimes dismissive attidue of him REALLY bothers him, and Jake and Marcy are guilty of the same at times. He genuinely admits though that through all this.. their his closest friends.. and it’s a really sweet song and really shows what finn is at his core through all his developments good and bad to come: An honest kid who just wants the best for people, and cares about those around him.. and gets those around him to open up as a result. It’s a freaking powerful sequence, and Jeremy Shada acts the hell out of it and the nimation is beauitufl. Good stuff. The door finally opens and we find out the Door Lord just did all of this to get them to bond and work on their issues... which as I said is well intentioned.. but in a funny bit they whollop him anwyay because you know.. he did so by stealing from them and making them solve a musical riddle. Who does that? BMO gets his controller back, Jake gets his blankie and Finn gets his wad of hair with PB giving out an OH you like this is normal and FInn rexamining all of his life choices. Don’t worry bud, your about to make some considerably WORSE life choices that will make these look midly better! We get one last bit of Bubbline tease as it turns out PB’s item.. is a t-shirt marcy get her, complete with blushing. Yet there was STILL vitroicllically insane crowd who swore they weren’t gay because htey wante dto pair either of them with a 13 year old which .. agian no. Just no. No no no no. We also find out Marcy had nothing stolen she just wanted to hang out and we end on her chasing them. Final Thoughts: As you can probably tell, this episode is a masterpiece and easily one of the series best, and not only that.. but it’s better than I remember. I THOUGHT this would be a quick review but the two hours it took to get this written and the more and more I found in the songs to talk about said otherwise. It’s easily the episode that put the show on the map, with holy jolly secrets being tied with it in this regardf or diffrent reasons, and the one that showed just how far it came. The music as I gushed is utterly fantastic and we’d get more.. then suddenly none once rebecca Sugar left because they coudln’t find anyone else apparently even though that makes no sense. Point is the episode is beautiuflly animated, deeply trenched in it’s characters, and even has some really funny bits like the runner about jake being the jerk in the band. IT’s great stuff and I highly recommend it even if you’ve seen it before. If you liked this there’s regular Loud House Coverage every weeeknd at some point, and regular ducktales coverage every monday if you’d like to follow to see that, and more reviews on my tabs and you can comission one for 5 bucks if your intrested of any episode of any show you want. Until we meet again, Go team venture. Play us out jodeci.

🌸 if you were a cartoon character with one main outfit, what would it be AND 🌝 free space: talk about whatever you want AND what is your favorite song AND asdkljvhbksejdafadkjfsklfgnszkdfgsgskfgsdkfskdfdklsdfkfksjdfksdfjdslkdffkfsjlgsjrwiutuhywjkgsiohgfhsrhiuskgelsghslrgjlksfgbshewnrthjeosgaeegrhmewioaghbrsgrj?
I would wear a sleeveless turtle neck, but it wouldn't really be a turtle neck because I tend to find them uncomfortable (I don't want anything to touch my neck because ticklish). But cartoon characters don't have feelings so I suppose it could be a turtle neck, either dark green or navy blue. I'd probably pair it with jeans.
Notable favourite songs in my life have been:
Age 13/2012:
"Eastern Bloc," Thomas Dolby, because of the lyric:
"Joey's gone and Georgie's gone/ put their best torn trousers on/ found a crowbar and a drill/ headed for the Berlin Wall."
PUNK! And the sound effects are fabulous. I also love the amount of hidden celebrity talent on this album... For various licensing reasons people couldn't publically collaborate, but the guitarist from Van Helsing is here.
A very specific cover version of "Some Fantastic Place" by Squeeze which exists in my head, because I remember my father singing it when I was very young.
In April 2018 I got really into Grimes. I tried very hard not to be. I knew it was bad at the time BC she used communism and "counterculturalism" as an aesthetic, and yet... "The belly of the beat" and "Kill V Maim" are good songs but she's also an evil (/negligent and complicit/complacent) capitalist so like. Pirate her music. Grimes reminds me of this one girl I had a crush on when I was 14. It's embarrassing and I wish I was able to escape her siren song.
In the same vein, as soon as Poppy started making metal music... Uhh it's really good and I wish it wasn't. Poppy and Grimes did a collab in 2018 called "Play Destroy", and then they had personal drama which I know way too much about. They will never collab again. But I need you to listen to "Play Destroy" because w h a t the hell. I aspire to be able to mix music as good as this. This was also allegedly released without Grimes' permission. I love the drama. I have no idea what my music taste is anymore but everything here feels like serotonin. Also Poppy is probably the most problematic person on this list so listen to Mars Argo to balance out your karma. She settled a lawsuit so her old music was recently put back on YouTube & there are plenty I haven't seen before.
Another 2018 fixation: "Love Like You" by Rebecca Sugar, from Steven Universe. I sang it over and over again in 2018/19 like the closeted baby nb I was.
I never had the Disney channel as a kid but someone got me the Aly and AJ album "Insomniatic" and I fell in love with the title song. When I was 8. I also obviously had a crush on AJ. Who then went on to voice Catra in She-Ra. So clearly, fate. Their song "Promises" is strangely haunting and, again... M i x i n g ™ 😔😍
Over lockdown I listened to the song "Night Shift" by Lucy Dacus 45 times. Probably just in the span of 2 or 3 months. I really wish I was kidding, but a majority of Find Someone To Love You got written to this song. I don't know why my brain latched onto it & I don't know why it isn't bored of it yet, but it officially lives in my head rent-free. "In five years, I hope the songs feel like covers/ dedicated to new lovers."
Here's my writing concentration playlist, here's my "typing up things/editing" playlist which is inexplicably named 'DRAWING'. Also relevant is Soundtrack To An Angsty Fic .
I've linked these to essentially say "I listen to and love too many Insaneintherainmusic covers to name them all, but last November I discovered that his music was the only thing I could really listen to when I was writing so that's what helped me practise the most." Oh and also "of course I listen to Mitski; I'm gay." "Norah Jones owns my entire heart."
I spent way too much time answering this & I apologise that there's no "read more" tag on mobile.

steven universe is ending
it’s so surreal thinking about steven universe coming to an end. i’ve been following this show since the very beginning, back when it premiered in 2013 on cartoon network. i’d already loved rebecca sugar’s work on adventure time, especially her songs that always managed to get stuck in my head for weeks on end, so I was ecstatic to hear that she had her own show on the air to showcase her ideas as well as the talents of those who worked with her. it was an exciting time, with so many possibilities for this intriguing new show about aliens and humans, about the ordinary and the extraordinary contrasted together.
i’ve followed Steven since the very beginning of his journey... back when he was struggling to find his place as a Crystal Gem, struggling to find his way as the son of Rose Quartz... and eventually as the son of Pink Diamond. and now... Steven is not the same person who was introduced to us so many years ago, way back in 2013. he’s no longer that excitable, hammy, fun-loving kid we used to know. now, he’s somebody else entirely. he’s somebody who understands that his childhood was not normal. someone who understands that the expectations thrust upon him were equitable to a child soldier... and that his trauma has forever warped his ability to respond normally to stress. he is somebody who understands that both of his parents, despite their differences, were ultimately running away from their roots in pursuit of freedom, but in their fear neglected to give him the structure and purpose he so desperately needed.
now, after the events of “Fragments,” Steven is at rock bottom. in shattering and reviving jasper, Steven is essentially playing god... as a fucking. teenager. he can take life... and also give it back in the same breath. how the fuck is he supposed to wrap his mind around that??? who else can possibly understand his position, the unfathomable danger of his abilities?? certainly not the rest of the Crystal Gems. no one could possibly understand the power he wields, or how to deal with it... besides the Diamonds. he doesn’t know where he belongs in the world, stuck somewhere between being a horrendously powerful gem... and being human.
but this was his destined nature, wasn’t it?? wasn’t it Rose Quartz herself who told him: “You’re going to be a human being.” ?
and yet, how can he be a human being... if his gem half simply won’t let him?
#su#su spoilers#my post#fuck.....FUCCCCCK#i'm actually scared about the finale#how could they possibly give this a happy ending now???????? goddddd....#i'm not okay

Below, I’m sharing a long outline of what was discussed in this wonderful interview, for those who can’t or prefer not to listen but want to know the content. It is very long and I don’t feel like finding pictures so you’ll have to just enjoy it like it is. It’s not a transcript but it is, in my own words for the most part, a recitation of everything Susana and Rebecca talked about: musicals, the upcoming movie, animation influences, and quite a few things you did not already know.
Susana introduces the interview by saying that tons of attention is paid to the diversity and the characters and all this great stuff in the show, but she wants to talk about the science fiction aspects and the society and worldbuilding Rebecca and her team have put in. She begins by talking about how the show seems so planned considering aspects of the show's beginning feed so well into the end, and she asks Rebecca to talk about that.
Rebecca opens by saying it was conceived as a coming-of-age story, so a ton of stuff that the adults know, Steven doesn't know, allowing it to be a story about things that happened to adults but remain child-friendly. Rebecca brings up a college class on the sublime that she took, about what's going on and implied to be going on just outside the frame of the art, so she was really taken with that concept.
Rebecca claims that her planning is pretty dry, and it's just a bunch of charts. She had stuff like Fusion names and weapons from the beginning, and of course she couldn't use them in her pitch because it didn't make sense without knowing the characters. Susana mentions that CN wanted the show to be aired in no particular order, and Rebecca mentions how it was hard to work with because she DID want continuity. Planting seeds in episodes and giving puzzle pieces that'd come together later worked for a long time, while still making each episode work as a whole and be satisfying. Later, when CN came to them wanting like eight related episodes, there they had the barn arc to give them--they had already planned to make this story related. She felt it aired in a "bizarre" way, but they comforted themselves on the Crew knowing someday people would watch it how it was meant to be watched. As a lead-up to the movie, CN IS going to air "every Steven ever," so people will actually get to see it in marathon format.
Batman: The Animated Series comes up and they discuss how censorship limited what they could do on that show because of problems with glass breaking. Susana says she actually really appreciates it when stories can still be told well despite the constraints put on them, and asks Rebecca if that applies to SU. Rebecca agrees that it does, and also that she loves stuff like video games that managed to function with ridiculously small space requirements. Developers still offered up such creativity, she says. So because of the beauty that arises from those constraints, she thought she should have constraints in her show on purpose, even if it isn't applied from outside. The most obvious one for this show was that we're trapped into only knowing and seeing what Steven knows and sees. "The Test" is a good example of Steven actually seeing something he isn't supposed to see: the Gems having a private conversation about him. According to her, plenty of stuff is written about what the Gems are up to outside of what Steven knows about them, and they can only kind of hint at it.
Coming from Adventure Time, there were some similar aspects. Rebecca got to work with some of her heroes from independent comics, and she got a lot of inspiration from them. On Adventure Time, it's our world but far in the future, and Rebecca would have loved to do something similar with Steven because she loved that aspect. Quite a few of the Adventure Time crew had come over from Flapjack and they thought it would be funny if the Adventure Time characters found a tape of Flapjack. As much as it would have been cool to take that idea for her show, that was theirs, so Steven's is more like it's our Earth but in an alternate timeline where Gems invaded 6,000 years ago. She rattles off some known similarities and differences of our two worlds, and elaborates on how Hollywood is in Kansas because in that world Disney never left where they started. Laugh-O-Gram Studio took off like it didn't in our timeline. She has a ton of other info like that but it won't matter to reveal it until or unless it matters to Steven. (She also throws in that Harman-Ising could be Ising-Harman in her world if they never figured out how cute it would be to have it the other way.)
When Susana asks about how she took so many details and managed to make a pilot with enough of them that she could get a show with it, Rebecca takes a turn into discussing working on Hotel Transylvania (for just a month!) with Genndy Tartakovsky. She had been planning to have a month off, but then Genndy asked, so she of course couldn't say no and felt she learned a ton. (She wrote the Steven Universe theme song in the car during that commute, by the way, given that she had a lot of time to sing and be alone.) When she hit Genndy with some of her ideas, he advised her to slim the details down and just boil it into its essence--who are the people and what is their relationship to each other? She still uses that advice, trying to condense things from macro to micro. She has succeeded since in figuring out how to keep the complexity and still assert the simplicity. Ultimately, you can keep those details but you don't have to emphasize them if they're not feeding into the main point. They'll drag the piece down. They discuss Genndy's role as the Animation Director on her pilot, which happened when she was asking if he knew anyone and he ended up saying he'd do it himself. She was so shocked that he agreed to direct her pilot that she was dazed and ran into a pole in the parking lot. The whistling of the wind through the resulting dent always made her giddy because she was thinking she would be working with Genndy.
Susana then turns to discussing Rebecca's influences and brings up Revolutionary Girl Utena. Rebecca mentions that she initially saw Utena because a person named Connie lent it to her in high school, so that's where SU's Connie's name comes from. Rebecca points out how hilarious Utena is in addition to being beautiful. She felt it was formative because Utena was "gender expansive and bisexual." Rebecca saw the movie first (which she doesn't recommend doing), then saw the series and then the movie again. She wanted to understand why the characters were turning into cars. (Chronicler's note: I was equally baffled by the Utena movie's car chase and car transformation stuff in the early 2000s. I did not know what to make of it.)
Rebecca elaborates on Utena and art influences, saying she loves to trace artists' influences to see where their pieces were coming from. She saw that Utena is very influenced by Princess Knight, and she was thrilled to visit places in Japan that influenced Osamu Tezuka. The Takurazuka Theatre is in Tezuka's town, and Rebecca describes how every show there is performed only by women. She felt that having this theater there influencing Tezuka certainly inspired him to include gender expansiveness in his work. The influences are so obvious when you look at the sources, and now all of this that came through Tezuka's work then through Utena then to Rebecca is so incredible.
When Susana brings up trends and how magical girl stuff influenced today's creators, Rebecca says she prefers not to think of it as a trend really because some of what's roaring out in popularity now was always around but was actively prevented from being made in the past. She talks about watching Tenchi Universe (the "Universe" part of SU came from Tenchi!) and Sailor Moon on CN, knowing it wasn't American, but she didn't really realize it "didn't belong" on the network, and felt that her access to influences was really unusually open--especially since her dad was an animation nerd and had a bunch of unusual stuff that influenced her, especially stuff that gave her a peek into how animation actually worked and knowledge that she could be one of the people making it. If she could call anything a trend now, it's that that sort of access is now available to more people because of the interconnectedness of the Internet and how we're so much more capable of influencing each other now.
They then discuss some anime stuff they had been exposed to and how Rebecca helped with an intro to Whisper of the Heart which is her favorite movie. She discusses how that movie (and Kiki's Delivery Service) are good representations of creative processes and sometimes what happens if an artist is blocked. She thinks the actual craft and work associated with the process is more important (and more interesting) than talent. Rebecca adores artists who take notes and figure out how to make their stuff good versus a specific moment of inspiration or an artist just "bleeding" their talent on everything. Art is a craft! You can study it! This is front and center in Whisper of the Heart. Rebecca discusses the Russian movie Film Film Film (which influenced the Zircons' design), and it has a writer character who is afraid that his process will destroy something inspired by a muse. She thinks it's a really interesting look at process.
Next they discuss a science fiction story in another format: the book The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. LeGuin. Kat Morris lent Rebecca the book while they were roommates at the very beginning of when the show was starting. She loved seeing how the world worked in the book through the way they treated the main character. They also discuss the artist Jules Feiffer, who Rebecca had a relationship with because she carpooled with his nephews. They gave her a book of his called A Barrel of Laughs, A Vale of Tears. She loved it so much, especially how it deconstructed fairy tale tropes. One story was about a prince whose special ability made people close to him laugh themselves senseless, so he really couldn't have a relationship with anyone. She considers this an influence on Pink Diamond as a character. The SU character Sadie was named after this book's character Plain Sadie.
Next, Susana asks about musical influences for the show. Rebecca names Patti LuPone first. She saw Patti as Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd and remembers seeing her playing the tuba in this weird arrangement where the cast was also the orchestra. She was so impressed. When she later wrote to Patti asking her to be Yellow Diamond, she referenced learning from her that a person could be so dramatic that it's funny and vice versa. She also has a "chills" moment from a different show, during "Everything's Coming Up Roses," where the character she's playing is imagining an audience going wild but the actual audience IS going wild.
As they discuss how the upcoming movie is a musical, Rebecca talks about going home with Ian after work and putting on musicals or movies based on TV shows so they can "study" for what they're doing. She'd take notes about what works and what doesn't and why. She loves these old movies that dissolve into total weirdness by the third act. She references Ziegfeld Girl and Busby Berkeley movies, which were an influence on Homeworld's style. She subscribes to a philosophy attributed to Bob Fosse that characters have to be feeling something strongly if they're compelled to sing. She makes a reference to A Goofy Movie as a movie that moved from a TV show to a movie. She wished that movie had more songs.
Susana and Rebecca discuss the movie, some intense moments, the history of Goofy and how different some of the old versions of him are, and how a description of Goofy by Art Babbitt was influential on her. She loves that cartoons can be so many things, and she adores studying moments from them and incorporating them. There are some really horrifying discoveries you can make, but you can also reinterpret some of the beautiful moments and stir them together to get new brilliance.
Susana says many songs in Steven Universe become the centerpiece of an episode, but in "Mr. Greg" it's more like a typical musical even though it's an episode of a cartoon show. Rebecca agrees that it was great practice for the movie. She was more moved by that episode coming back than any other so far by that point. She also felt that "For Just One Day Let's Only Think About (Love)," the song, was a great practice musical song--especially since there's all that chatting in between singing. That song was really influenced by A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum's song "Comedy Tonight." She finds those kinds of musicals so much fun. She was influenced in "Mr. Greg" by Victor/Victoria--specifically the song "Crazy World" when the camera is panning around the protagonist (who's wearing a suit). They're of course dated, but they contain beautiful moments. She took home some of the Pearl drawings from "It's Over, Isn't It" when she went to the studio in Korea. (Yes, Steven Universe is animated on paper, though the color is digital.) Elaborating on "Mr. Greg," she says the episode became much simpler and sweeter--originally there was some intense stuff in there, like Pearl picking up cars and throwing them at Greg.
Back to the movie, Susana points out that Rebecca's been studying how to make a conversion to a cinematic story versus a really long TV episode. What makes something feel like a movie? Rebecca struggles to figure out how to talk about it without saying too much. She figures you have to dig into the fundamentals of the show--make a movie about something new, but something basic. She loved the Dexter movie and it was so smart. Rebecca has a weird connection to the Beavis and Butt-Head movie too (some of her crew worked on the movie!), but she thinks even that movie is smart because they're all about watching TV and in the movie their TV is taken.
Susana then asks about the movie length format and how it felt from going from a very short TV format to a movie. Rebecca's word to describe it is "terrifying." The episode "Change Your Mind" was 44 minutes and that was a ridiculously long format for them--but it carried the extra baggage of tying up so much of what they'd dumped into the show. Rebecca said they couldn't really even "feel good" about finishing it because the immediate next step was something that was so much more of everything hard about "Change Your Mind." Rebecca elaborates on the elements that were ramped up for the movie and concludes "What I'm trying to say is I'm really tired." She's really, really excited for us to see it. It's so different than a bunch of episodes tied together, even if it was eight "Mr. Greg" episodes. All the pieces have to be awesome and then tied together have all the pieces inform each other. She remembers being impressed by anime as a kid because it usually told interconnected stories, and she thought that would be really hard; turns out self-contained episodes are even harder, and she has to kind of do both on her show. She thinks of her songs like that too--they must be good on their own, but they enhance each other by all being part of the same work and building something better together.
Finally, Susana asks what comes next after Steven Universe--one day, when the show does end, what does Rebecca want to do? Well, take time off, write some guitar songs, write poetry no one will ever see, and so on. Rebecca says that her head is really in SU now though, and there's so much more to do--yes, there is more to tell that comes after the movie, and she wants us to know there are also stories that belong in that two-year gap between the end of "Change Your Mind" and the beginning of the movie, but she feels this is a good place to stop talking. She's so excited about everything we have yet to see.

Well I wanted to say this towards the finale but I said fuck it. Let’s do this now. Thank you Rebecca Sugar for creating such an amazing show. Let’s see...I watched it whenever I was maybe either in 8th grade or 7th grade. I was an insecure little bitch and still am, now that I am a freshman in college. It really cheered me up when I wasn’t feeling to great and it gave me something to think about.
I used to have a fandom Instagram account that included multiple fandoms and SU was one of them. I remember raving about In Too Deep with the Cluster or when the reveal of Pink Diamond being Rose. I wasn’t allowed to have the account because my mother found out and became upset I was talking to strangers online. I promised to not get involved with fandom stuff again but HA look where that’s got me. I now have an archive of our own account and I’ve created stories for Bendy and the Ink Machine and SU. I discovered that I’m a talented writer now because of SU and I enjoy it. I’ve also discovered my sexuality because of the show. It helped me realize that I am Bisexual and I should be proud of it. Just because I am different with being highly functioning on the autism spectrum doesnt make me any less human and SU has helped me realized that. Its been my special interest..makes me happy but it hurt when that happiness was taken away. I’m back to loving it.
Thank you Rebecca for touching subjects that not many shows have done like gay/lesbian couples, transgender people, loss of parents, stress and anxiety, PTSD, and most importantly: loving yourself. Those Dove commercials were adorable and I loved them. I am still struggling with loving myself..it’s not an easy process but it’s a process. I’m so glad SU made those and still emphasized that loving who you are is incredibly important.
I didn’t intend on watching SU again before the movie. I somewhat forgot about it until it came out and I was like wow holy shit since when was there a movie. I watched it in my dorm and I instantly fell back in love with SU again and I’m so glad I did. I fell in love with Spinel and her wacky, crazy, feral, goofy self. I love Other Friends because it’s one of those songs that just sticks to you. It’s fun, it’s catchy, and it’s swingy which I love so much. I couldn’t stop listening to it and I guess you could say it was on loop in my head. I fell in love with Spinel because of her story, her character, her voice, HER VOICE ACTRESS love ya Sarah Stiles you fucking queen, her design, just everything. I love the old 1920s style that she is and inspired me to write That Damn Dame.
I am so glad I got back into SU cause I never would’ve found my amazing and beautiful girlfriend. I would have never found something that makes me so happy. I could say so much more but I really can’t cause there’s just too much to say. It’s gonna be hard to let go of such an awesome show but like all good things, they must come to an end. It’s time for it to end. Thank you Rebecca Sugar. We love you and your amazing story. 💜

Burrito’s Guide To Survive Coronavirus Quarantine
We got to keep social distance (1 or 2 meters each other) or stay home during coronavirus outbreak so I thought I can share with y’all some things I’m gonna watch or do doing quarantine (this is a very long post, REBLOGS ARE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!).
BUT FIRST SOME RULES:
Wash your hands: do it for 20 seconds or a while, but ALWAYS do it. It prevents the virus from spreading. If you don’t have sanitizer, water and soap! The cheapest and best ally against the disease.
Buy everything you need: if you can, try to buy stuff so you can stay some days at home. If the place is crowded, go back home and come later when it’s more empty. Same as medicine.
You can go for a walk: stay at home all day can be overwhelming for your mental health, but unless the goverment puts a curfew or gets strict about it you can go walk outside for a while always respecting the 1 or 2 meters from other people and without making contact (chatting) with other people. This ain’t my rule, a CDC professional says. DON’T go visit your friends or to crowded places such as bars, restaurants, shoppings, etc. If you want to buy something, ask for delivery or take away.
If you have coronavirus sympthoms (high fever, diarrhea, cough, feeling tired, breath difficulties) DON’T GO TO THE HOSPITAL YET, CALL TO YOUR PUBLIC HEALTH ORGANISATION OR WHATEVER YOU GOT AND THEY’LL TREAT YOU.
(credits to whoever made this meme)
SO YOUR LIFE IS ON QUARANTINE
Let’s say your boss or your school told you can stay at home. Okay then, you gotta prepare for some days inside *Isolation by John Lennon plays in the distance*. The first thing you think is you have to prepare a batch of series and movies to watch in order to kill some time. I’m gonna recommend you some you can find on VOD or cable, if you don’t have it don’t worry because I got you covered!
Infinity Train: a yet two seasons saga about people who got to face their problems aboard an endless train. The protagonists are joined by creatures who have different nature and help them, or not, to acknowledge their issues and leave the train. It’s on CN, it will continue on HBO Max.
The Owl House: a teen girl who daydream a lot was going to be sent to a down-to-earth camp but then she crosses a portal to the Boiling Isles, a magical world where she is taken care by a powerful Owl witch/saleswoman and her adorable demon. Lots of fantasy, some action scenes and many many puns. It’s on Disney Channel, it’ll be on Disney+ in some weeks.
Primal: Genndy Tartakovsky delighted us with the alliance of a caveman and a dinosaur, two rivals in a wild world who ally after facing a devastating event. It IS brutal and beatiful, has no dialogue and keeps you watching closely. Five final episodes are set to premiere this year. It’s on Adult Swim, maybe on HBO Max.
Tuca and Bertie: for the critics, one of 2019 best shows. For Netflix, a show that had to be cut off because the studio unionized. Two friends in their late 20s face changes in their lives: from living with a boyfriend and plan a life to look a way to stay sober and get a job. Deals with trauma, ptsd, anxiety and more harsh moments very well. In fact, the creator is a vital part of Bojack Horseman! It’s on Netflix.
Aggretsuko: red pandas are cute eh? But what about a antopomorphic red panda who releases her anger and frustrations by singing at a karaoke? This awesome comedy by Sanrio & Netflix is one of anime’s big hits lately. Like T&B, has a good handle of adult problems but not going too deep just to not break the comedy. You can watch it on Netflix.
Regular Show: yeah-uuuuhhhh! Eight seasons, a movie, five Halloween specials and some others. The adventures of a racoon and a blue jay with their co-workers/friends that relies on psychadellia and 80s and 90s nostalgia. It begins good, gets better, then lowers the quality (they were producing the movie at the same time tho, give some credit) and with and after the movie ends awesome. It’s on CN web, dunno if on Hulu (US only) and proably on HBO Max.
Evangelion: it’s a classic at this point, but addictive to me because I end rewatching the series or the final movie many times. A post apocalyptic future where the world has to deal with strange creatures known as the Angels and a boy with lots of traumas has to get on a mecha to save the humankind. All the characters have traumas and issues, the interaction between them or the action makes it worth. The End of Evangelion is a movie that ends the unfinished series. Warning: at some point it becomes very twisted and there are scenes which are too much violent. Viewer disclosure etc. It’s on Netflix worldwide.
Steven Universe & SU Future: this is the tale of the gem boy who ends a galactical tyranny and brings democracy to the universe. A acclaimed show that broke through many topics like gender, identity, ptsd, relationships and many more. Besides it’s got the best scores of the Milky Way and beyond thanks to the talent of Rebecca Sugar, Aivi Tran and Surasshu. And the actors and acrtresses! I don’t forget the movie, a musical that is an introduction to the epilogue: Shippuden Future. The show is available on CN and will be on HBO Max. Worldwide? No news.
Adventure Time: something that began as an innocent boy and a magical dog having adventures in a post apocalyptic world turns into the journey of Finn Metens from childhood to almost adulthood. There is a lot of fantasy and comedy you enjoy, but there are dark moments and serious ones through S6 that find a balance with early seasons form S7 to the finale. It also has great music, memorable moments and colaborations. And guess what? There is going to be a special set to premiere on HBO Max in some weeks! You got plenty of time to catch up or rewatch before that on CN or only (!!) S5 on Netflix.
Final Space: a dude tries to save the universe with their friends, where we can find his love interest, a cat-man and his kitten son, a intersexual alien, an AI then robot that is the best of them, two particular siblings and an annoying bot that prevents insanity that makes you insane. Crazy adventures in space, lots of situations, sadness, an evil smol bean who is a space emperor, a dude who looks for revenge, space deities that can destroy the universe. Is this a lot or info? It is not, because there is more and you can watch it on TBS, Adult Swim and Netflix (the world except US).
Rick and Morty: the most powerful, smartest human in the universe has adventures with his grandson. It’s awesome, but has a very toxic fanbase. Anyway, you can enjoy it on Adult Swim or Netflix (which is up to date!) and the rest of S4 is set someday.
Bojack Horseman: a Hollywood satire about human relationships, fame, traumas with a pour of comedy. Alongside the previous series, the best adult animation of the decade. Sadly cut by Netflix because the studio unionized (see T&B), said by both the creator and Aaron Paul. You can watch the six amazing seasons on that platform.
I’m not an animated movies guy, but here are three I really like and you can watch:
Porco Rosso: a handsome Italian combat aviator turned magically to a pig has a face off with an American pilot hired by pirates to get rid of him before WWII in Fascist Italy. It’s entertaining and, like every Ghibli movie, nice to watch. It’s on Netflix and will be on HBO Max for US.
Lego Batman Movie: Batman is depressed and has to get over it. It’s wacky and has lots of comedy. Plus Will Arnett is top 3 Batman. On Netflix (Latinamerica).
Spiderverse: Oscar winner movie about your friendly neighbour Peter Parker Miles Morales. Miles sees Spiderman die and feels bad after being transfered to a private school. Then a radioactive spider from a Fisk compound bites Miles and he’s Spiderman... among other dimensions’ Spiderpeople: Gwen, Peni, Peter Parker, Noir and Peter Porker. It’s visually amazing. On US it’s on Netflix (I guess), on Latinamerica on HBO.
Some interesting live actions I watched lately
Atlanta: Donald Glover is Earn, a dude who struggles to find a job for her baby girld and sees an opportunity when his cousin, Paper Boi, has a hit and uses him to make his cos famous. Sometimes a comedy, sometimes a social satire with touches of drama. And all protagonists are now big shots, like Zazie Beetz, Brian Tyree Henry or Lakeith Stanfield. There are two seasons and two seasons set for 2021 (2022 possible beacuse of coronavirus). It’s on FX, Hulu (US) and Netflix (world)
Avenue 5: this is brand new. On 2060 space cruises are a thing, and one cruise (the Avenue 5) has an accident that leaves the crew and passangers stranded for years. The captain (Hugh Laurie) has to solve this shit with a bunch of incompetent crew, bosses like Judd (Josh Gad), except one female engeneer who is very smart. Lots of crazy things happen in this series from the creator behind Veep. It’s on HBO (it’s free in the US!).
Peaky Blinders: it has some years but damn it’s epic. A gang from Birmingham makes their way to the top during the late 1910s after the Great War and extends through the 1920s. S5 is right in the ascension of fascism in Britain. ALL THE CAST acts spectacular, names like Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy, Anna Taylor-Joy and a long etc. But my fave is Paul Anderson, that ultra violent junkie Arthur Shelby is splendid, then is Tommy and aunt Pol, the baddest badass woman in Britain. Blinders is going to have seven seasons, there are two left. You can watch it on BBC or Netflix.
Sex Education: speaking of Britain, excellent teen comedy. Horny, doubtful teenagers going through those hard years. Stories of sex (duh!), abuse situations, abortion, there are gay relationships either, Gillian Anderson! It’s on Netflix, go go go!
Watchmen: despite not having Alan Moore on board, Damien Lindeloff did a tremendous job with the comic. Way better and less misleading than Zack Snyder’s 2009 film, Watchmen is again at the gates of the world’s end (like today) and handles the problem of racism and white supremacy quite well. Just 9 episodes, but worth to watch. On HBO.
CAOS: Sabrina the Teenage Witch is over. Warner and Netflix made a revival of the Archie Comics character and brought her to XXI Century. But gorier, hornier, dark and magical than the nice 90s sitcom. Sabrina Spellman goes from a doubtful teen who has to decide if she has to be a witch or a powerless woman to rule Hell. How she does it? Find out on Netflix! Note: S1 and 2 take some episodes to start properly. Don’t get bored too easy.
There are A LOT MORE to recommend and I make a list: Harley Quinn (DC Universe), OK KO (Hulu -US only-), House MD, Young Justice (DC Universe/Netflix), Ken Burns’ documentaries (Netflix), Titans (DCU), Over The Garden Wall (CN), Seis Manos (Netflix), Thundercats Roar (CN), Easy (Netflix), GLOW (Netflix), Star Trek Discovery (CBS, Netflix) and Picard (CBS, Amazon Prime), etc.
- You named cool shows, but I’m not from the United States or I don’t have a subscription to (insert VOD here) because I can’t afford it
- Glad you asked, I have the answer here
Introducing Stremio. It’s an open source platform where you can watch shows, movies or even live TV on Windows, Linux, Apple or Android. You create an account, install some addons and start looking for what you want to watch.
Stremio is based on torrents, you should install addons from many known torrent sites. So maybe you find an old show, but there aren’t many seeds to watch. And it could be frustraiting, so make sure there are people sharing so you can watch it.
You can download Stremio here and check the FAQs which is very clear.
NOTE: Stremio is note quite “clean” way to watch, but if you do please support the shows you watch by posting, commenting about them, making memes, thanking the creators and crew for their work, buying merchandise if you can. They put a lot to make the shows we love, let’s give ‘em back that love and effort.
You’re tired of the same music, the same movies or need to leave something to make company? There is Vaughn Live, a streaming page where are lots of channels with movies and series on strem (not VOD). For example, there is a channel that streams Adventure Time, other Regular Show, other Sci-Fi shows, another with DBZ and so on. Take in count that if the channel has +70 viewers, the free access is cut and if you want to watch it you have to pay.
En Vaughn también hay canales en español, como Simpsonmanía, Dragon Ball, Futurama, dibujos viejos y muchísimo más. Anyway, go to https://vaughn.live/ and enjoy yourselves!
Some interesting facts:
Epic Games releases a free game per week in their store. This week will be two games. You can check in https://www.epicgames.com
Steam has good prices on games and some free ones. There even is the latest Football Manager for free until March 25th. Check on https://store.steampowered.com/
If you’re interested,
I got this playlist I made on Spotify
with songs I liked in more than one year. More than 1200 songs.
And that’s pretty much it! You got resources for a lot of days, 14 initially since that’s the quarantine time in my country. Remember: obey the indications of the Health authorities, this is no time to play the “fuck the goverment” game. We will overcome this pandemy together, helping and caring for each other. That’s why I did this guide, to keep your minds busy in these tough times! Wash your hands, keep social distance, stay at home, go outside if necessary and have some patience please. This has been a PSA.
Stay strong!

Who's Lilly Orchard? I often see her mentioned but idk who she actually is
A youtuber who mostly does cartoon reviews and sometimes will also talk about movies. She thinks she is some kind of activist with the hottest takes on the kitchen, especially championing for “good” LGBT+ representation, and I am sure some of her fans believe her to be so, but in fact she is just a queerphobic, ableist, antisemitic, ignorant, petty, lying, hypocrite, possibly abusive or at the very least with a very abusive mindset, disgusting piece of shit that loves to pretend anyone who disagree with her is a nazi/alt-right figure, even if those same people are LGBT+ people themselves telling her she is plainly wrong. Also she is an anti that despite having written an entire saga about Rainbow Dash being attracted to underage characters (with multiples scenes of those same underage character having sex among themselves to booth), loves to call people pedophiles if their tastes are remotely problematic and has no qualms at all calling Rebecca Sugar (who she has a particular bone to pick for whatever fuck reason, going as far as to constantly insulting her talent, appaerence and whatever she can think of, calling Steven Ubbermensch because associating a character done by a queer jewish woman with Hitler is sO fUnNy) a creep because of fanart she made when she was a teenager and deleted afterwards. She also made two videos, I think, purely to shit on Reylo because tHat iS uNhEaLtHy aNd aBuSiVe and is currently making a fanfic purely to shit on Kylo Ren because that iS sO fUn. Oh, and also the type of racist that has no problem reducing all anime to fanservice and pedophilia.A toxic piece of garbage who multiple people who interacted with her have only bad things to say.-1000/10, do not recommend.

Top 10 EoA moments in Season 3 2019
Like it says in the title, my personal top 10 moments of Elena of Avalor during its season 3 this year. I’ll admit the first few are from The Magic Within special but come on, a lot happened during that. 1. Esteban’s Betrayal
The reveal we have waited for like 4 years at least, and ugh it tore my heart apart. I still can’t watch the Grand Council trial or the dinner table scene. It’s just too soon. But really EoA delivered what it came to pathos and climax in that scene. The buildup was worth it if heartbreaking. And damn they look so suave!
2. Elena falls into Takaína
Elena gaining a whole new set of powers just as she seems to have mastered her scepter. Well that is certainly cause for excitement and celebration. And I’ll admit, worry considering the great darkness is still coming whatever it is. However, I thoroughly enjoy seeing Elena trying to come to terms with her new mood powers. Elena’s passion and impulsivity is simultaneously her greatest strength and her greatest flaw so its cool to see her mature and work through this now that they’re more magical consequences.
3. Esteban falls into Takaína
ESTEBAN getting powers! That I never saw coming. Not in my wildest imaginations or au ideas. And there had been no hint and.. ah! Just ah! What a reveal.
4. Ash’s betrayal
Ash turning Victor to stone, Carla turning against her mom and Ash abandoning them all, all in less than 5 minutes. I think we all knew something was going to happen to turn Carla to the side of good, but I no way imagined such a harsh way. Poor Carla! Victor actually standing up to his wife for their daughter’s wellbeing, ah my heart. Him, being stoned, omg😱 Well I’m eager to see how Carla’s path to redemption goes and what will happen once Victor comes back. 5. Team EsteAsh
Esteban repeating history by teaming up with freaking Ash! Ash! Her! Why! After what happened with Shuriki?! It’s still an intriguing dynamic considering it’s the enemy of my enemy situation with Esteban being especially reluctant to hurt anyone even after being officially disowned. After the events of The Last Laugh, I’m more than eager to see Esteban’s grand plan (and hopeful double cross) of that witch.
6. Dreamcatchers
All of Dreamcatchers is in a realm of its own with Elena coming to terms to her complicated feelings towards Esteban and 😢 disowning him so he officially turns to the side of evil (for now). Plus the climax with everything frozen and the crystal arch and the tears (maybe some from me, I’ll admit) was such a beautiful emotional moment in EoA’s animation history and I applaud 👏👏 7. Naomi leaves
Naomi leaving Team Avalor for an indefinite amount of time. I couldn’t believe they went through with it. Kids shows like these rarely go trough such a change in status quo and I’m amazed the snow decided to go there. Really take away one of the main characters for a bit of time and show how things change.
8. Mateo gets an upgrade
Everyone’s growing up and our wizard is no exception from getting to meet his abuelo and growing to believe in himself to fulfill his destiny. I feel like this brings to full circle of Mateo’s self esteem journey from season 1. Mateo had been insecure of himself and didn’t believe he could live up to his Abuelo, then he has grown in more confidence and has come to accept he doesn’t need to be Alacazar or greater, he is doing a great job on his own. He doesn’t truly need a guide on his journey as he thought he did in Spirit of the Wizard. He can do it and he will be able to succeed.
9. The fifth member of Team Avalor
Speaking of growing, Isabel joins Team Avalor. From kid sister to team member, it’s a perfect arc for the sisters such as a Elena realizing that Isabel is growing and can take part in having her own responsibilities to help Avalor and for Isabel to begin her own journey in adventuring. Sort of ties into Team Isa, but Isabel beginning to figure things out using her own skills and talents and not simply rely on Elena’s example, but forge her own.
10. Fun shippy moments and growing dynamics
Some lightheartedness for number 10, but the shippy moments, whether you view it as platonic or potentially romantic are fun as they illustrate how close los cuatros amigos all have grown together. I mean did you see them work in Sister of Invention? They ruled that fight. They were in sync and confident and had utmost trust in each other. Such growth from the beginning and I love it all. Just as I love this show in general.
This can include most of the character dynamics like Hector and Abigail in Incredible Shrinking Royals/Norburg Peace Prize, the Flores granddaughters with Luisa in Sugar Rush, Rebecca/Felicia’s and Elena’s friendship in Festival/Flower of Light respectively. Elena does such a great job showing all sorts of relationships and dynamics and they’re all such fun to watch.
So I hope y’all enjoyed my top 10 EoA moments. Next is top 10 songs.

Your art is so beautiful! Do you think you could list off some of your artistic inspirations?
Thank you! I have a few that I can think of right off the top of my head. I’m mostly inspired by animators and cartoons. I have a few people from Calarts who inspired me and I have a few Famous artists throughout history but mostly it’s cartoonists. I don’t know how many know this but I hope to go to school for animation soon.
To start, Obviously, I love Rebecca Sugar. They’re one of my biggest inspirations and I’ve always wanted to work at Cartoon Network. It’s is my dream job and if I could work with them, I’d die happy. I’ve been watching CN since I was a little kid and I think my favorites were PPG, Ed, Edd, N Eddy, Dexter's Laboratory and Samurai Jack. I liked just about everything on CN but I found myself watching those the most.
I learned that Genndy Tartakovsky worked on most of the shows I grew up watching. He would be another artist/animator who inspires me. He knows what he likes and has always done animation for himself. It really shows.
I also went through a Disney Phase. I grew up on Disney like a lot of children. I have so much respect for Disney’s Nine Old Men. Their skill and innovation pushed animation to an all-new level. They’ll always have a place in my heart. There is also Glenn Keane, Chris Sanders, who draw girls so beautifully. Chris Sanders was one of my animator crushes. I just idolized him when I was a teenager haha. I couldn’t get enough of the girls he drew.
I also started to watch anime when I was maybe twelve or thirteen. Specifically, Studio Ghibli films. I’ve watched them all numerous times. I came across Hayao Miyazaki’s work and I can say out of everyone I just listed, he is my number one inspiration. I’ve never seen anyone as passionate about animation. Each film is an art piece to me. I admire him and his studio more than anyone else. I love other animes of course but there is something different about his films. I watched whatever anime that was on adult swim and whatever I could on Toonami. I think Inuyasha was my favorite. The first anime TV show I ever watched. Rumiko Takahashi's art style was so adorable and I loved her sense of humor. I used to laugh and cry reading her manga.
As for Calarts, it wasn’t just all the famous Alumni, it was these three people in particular. McKenna Harris. I used to follow her on Deviantart back in the day and sort of grew up with her. I followed along her journey. I remember her getting accepted at Calarts and how her art improved so quickly. I was so happy for her. I loved her student films. Definitely check her out. Merry was my favorite of hers. I cried.
Second would be Michelle lam aka Mewtripled. I just think she's incredible and beautiful. Her art has this sort of Panty & Stocking vibe that I dig. Not only is she super talented, but shes also gives really good advice to aspiring animators.
The third person is the Elasmosaurus. She always had this sort of Disney style to me. I thought it was so freaking amazing. She would draw Kingdom Hearts all the time and I just freaking loved it even though I never played Kingdom Hearts she made me obsessed. I lost her for a while when she deleted her account on DA but I finally found her on Tumblr. She’s still kicking ass and her art is incredible.
As for famous artists, I’ve been told by my art teacher that my life drawings look like Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and Honoré Daumier had a baby. I like their work it's very loose and alive.
