Saw @sharkylass' Isabeau Loops AU and went "well I'll have that" and yoinked the design so I can translate it into IRAC AU sprites. Roboro's design fucks severely man, the concept is so good and the post loops design is so pretty.

Mostly just wanted to draw it post loops, but I threw in white dandelion Roboro in there as a treat. He's pretty!

I love that Isabeau is the one to bring up the "what do we do if you die" conversation cause its a very good insight to his character at the very start of the game. Isabeau is practical, smart, and loves everyone dearly and wants to know how to help them when shit goes sideways. He's the one to ask about Bonnie too, which is a delightful read on how he thinks because everyone else shuts that down instantly as a "That wont happen and cant happen" but we see later in the game it can happen which is such a startling thing for a game to do but justifies the foreshadowing of Bonnie can die what do we do if that happens? Isabeau, despite everything, is also the one who gets to the heart of the matter even if its not something must people are willing to talk about. All without it being part of his friendquest, thats just him naturally. Which! Says so much about him and how he is! His character when its not about his relationship with Siffrin is a very intriguing thing because it feels like a very classic hard intellectual stance that's been softened after many years of learning to better communicate healthily with others. A reflection, if you will, of Odile but in a very drastic direction. I find him fascinating and I also want to scoop his brains out and study them under a microscope to see all his little brain thoughts.

You turn your head, exhaling some smoke to the side before looking back at the door to see Isabeau. He's your most loyal customer, you swear he's been here since you started. You know his order by heart now, he rarely ever change, and when he does, he keeps the next one for a while. One day, he didn't came, it made you worry. Turns out he slept all day after a big test. You felt stupid afterwards... You chat for a while some days when it's quiet in the shop, you even got him a nickname..

"Isa... I'm fine. It helps me clear my head."

|It's bad for you, and I know you know it.|

"Come on, I'll be fiiiine. It's not a smoke or two that's gonna mess me up."

|You don't smoke "one or two", Siffrin..|

|Don't think I didn't notice you've been doing it more. Is there something bothering you? You can tell me-|

"We're in a worker to customer relationship right now, don't try and tell me what to do."

He's getting closer. You know he hates the smell of cigarettes, so you sigh and crush it in the ashtray beside you, and sit down. He thank you, and sit next to you.

You take a deep breath in.. and out.

His hand approaches you, you flinch a little, and look at him. He wait for your approval, before slowly taking yours, stopping your incessant tugging. As always, his palm is warm, a little.. moist. He's not as comfortable with the situation as he seem out to be.

|Now, you know I'm not the kind of person qualified for all those things turning in your head. I can listen to you, care for you, be here to support you, but you need someone who will actually help you go through it.|

"I know... I'm just.."

|It tends to do that at first, but after some time you'll come to find relief going there. That's what it did to me at least.|

"You've gone to therapy ?"

|Mhm, when I was figuring myself out mostly. Helped a lot with unraveling the mess my brain was in.|

You look at his face. He has that big stupid smile on again. Stars why is he so-

You smirk. You know how he reacts by heart. A flinch, and his cheeks get all red as he looks away. Heh.. shy refrigerator.

"Alright, time to get back to work."

You let out a small chuckle, and get back inside, your hand leaving his. For now.

okay. okay okay okay. so. it feels weird that isa says that, right? because he told siffrin that hes going to quit! that he wants to be a clothing designer.

he didnt.

the only time the "what will you do after" dialogue is available is in act one. this is the case for every character, not just isabeau. to the point that miras even has unused portrait changes!

isabeau never tells siffrin that he wants to be a clothing designer during their loops.

he only tells them before they die for the first time.

the reason that isabeau, at the end, says "i cant wait to go back to my old job" is because he doesnt know that siffrin knows hes not happy with it. he doesnt know that siffrin knows that hes lost his respect for the defenders.

because in every loop. every single loop. he never tells them that. because they never ask.

and siffrin never asks again because they already know the answer. and that answer doesnt include them.

isabeau is still putting up the mask hes so carefully woven for himself. hes big, stupid, and strong. a defender. who doesnt care about things thatre too complicated like sewing or math or science. hes big emotional isabeau who what he lacks in brains he makes up for in passion, right?

which is why he doesnt say that in the friendquest ending, either. because even if he doesnt tell siffrin that he wants to design clothing, he tells them that hes smart enough to be able to.

Question/Idea?? Would H!Isa even want to still be a Housemaiden after all is said and done? The idea being that H!Isa's friendquest could be him and T!Mira talking it out since she also left. Plus, it helps that there's a particularly cute cook he wants to leave with...

There's also the idea of him leaving all his garb behind (change earrings and shield) when T!Mira breaks out of the time loops so he can live and travel as anonymously as possible. I think at that point he'd be very tired of being a poster boy

A good question!! Personally I think HM!Isabeau would still want to practice his faith and keep a firm commitment to the Change God.. but yeeeeeeeah after his quest is over and Mira is out of the timeloops, I think he'd slap his hands together like "WHELP, time for a Change I think!!" and wholeheartedly put all his energy into figuring out what kind of Housemaiden he wants to be from then on. But like? even if you aren't part of a House or are actively broadcasting your religion to the public, you don't stop being a Housemaiden :3 It's a lifelong thing, even if you change jobs and stuff. Boy howdy though Isa wants nothing to do with fame or living up to expectations afterwards I'll say that much XD He's good to be invisible and settle into a quieter life with a certain disaster cook in a few years when he's ready <3
