And that is literally Katsuki Bakugo, can't see him not doing it tbh. (This was also a lot longer then I planned for it to be- I just started typing and here we are- 1k)

He isn't confused about a lot of things in life but his feelings definitely stump him. He tries to analyze other people and how they react to people, but the dots just don't connect. He hears people rave on and on about how cute their crush is, but he just doesn't get it.

It's not that he hasn't been introduced to it either. I mean, it's middle school. Everyone is crazy about dating someone even if it's just to hold their stupid hand. Bakugo didn't get it, he honestly didn't want to get it. Sure he wanted to understand it, but only so he could know a weakness or some shit. He didn't want the gushy feelings or anything such.

Rejecting girl after girl was normal for him, people just loved how great he was. But after the first year of middle school that stopped. Mainly because of how rudely he rejected every girl in the past, but also because of you.

You got extremely close with him rather quickly, working your way into his life and friend groups. It was rare to see you away from each other.

Yet when you confessed to him in your last year of middle school, he stood still. It was the only confession he hesitated on. And while you swayed on your feet, anxious for a reply, he tried to cough up any words possible.

But the only ones that came out were. "You're not special."

In the most blunt way possible, he crushed your dreams. With the way he was looking at you, it was like he couldn't fathom the thought that you thought you were good enough for him, different than all the other girls. So you choked up any spiteful things you wanted to say and nodded before walking off.

He didn't necessarily like you then, but the thought didn't seems gross. So when he watched you walk away, he shrugged it off. You'd talk to him tomorrow definitely.

When tomorrow came and went, he was waiting for you to show up by his side at any second. But of course, you never did. You waited a day before showing up to class, but when you did you stuck near your other friends.

It stayed that way too. You only nodded at him after you finished middle school, a small final goodbye.

So it was rather unfortunate that one of your friends happened to be Izuku. It was a hard-built friendship, but he's very forgiving.

You came and visited the dorms often, encouraged by his mother to help him get by easier.

Bakugo hated it, you never even looked his way.

When he googled his feelings he didn't want to believe the words typed on his screen. It was all saying he was jealous. He'd never been jealous of anything, especially nothing Deku had.

Eventually, Kirishima pointed it out, commenting on the glare he was giving Midoriya. He also called him out the next day, when he kept glaring despite you not being there.

The day he cracked was after he fought Deku, after being yelled out by Aizawa he and Deku were told to wait.

Bakugo mentioned your name in a mumble at first before Deku questioned it. "She like you or some shit?"

"What?!"

"You fuckin' heard me," he spat back.

"No!" Deku scrambled for a reason. He knew you had a crush on Bakugo before, but you haven't mentioned it in a while, "Do you?"

"Do I like you?!"

"NO! HER!"

Bakugo's aggression faded as he thought. Everyone was saying that. Kirishima, his dad, and now Deku. He gave a small shrug because he was unsure.

"She still asks about you," Deku decided to say, rather than poke the bear.

"Hm."

"Wanting to know if you're okay. After the sludge, and after.. well you know," Deku mumbled.

The door opened before anything else could be said, but even if it didn't, they both knew the conversation was over.

Feeling the commonly named butterflies in his stomach, at just the thought of you thinking of him still, was odd. It was an entirely new feeling. After googling, once again, he came to terms with the fact that he finally felt all the gushy feelings that everyone else got in middle school. The ones you used to have for him, hopefully still do.

He still waited a year to act on his conclusion first. But he still slowly tried to weave his way back into your life. Choosing to sit next to you when you visited, to othering you the remote.

Everything was without words for a while. Almost a year in he was forced to talk to you often. All conversations being awkward and strained.

Confessing was a different story, it was the last day you could visit before it was officially summer break before the second year. We are graced us with the amazing scene that was Tan and Fangs backstory today.

These two are the gift that keeps on giving. Every scene with them is so amazing and sweet and I just love them so muchhhh. They’re such great characters.

I can’t believe that Tan was a bit of a delinquent in the past, that was mad. To the point that his friends had to threaten him to stop fighting lol. And he was a right little bastard. Arguing for Fang for absolutely no reason at all lol. You can really see how much Tan has developed as a person from the past to where he is now. I couldn’t ever imagine him punching someone now. While he’s very energetic and excitable, he’s definitely matured and grown.

I love that we got to see some more nuance to his character and see what he used to be like.

And oh my lord.

We know that Fang is willing to fight someone if he feels it’s needed. Like when he threatened to fight Q for Toey. But seeing him DECK Tan was so unexpected lol. But also like, it fits with his character, and makes sense for him tbh. Fang will fight for what he believes in. And he believed that Tan deserved a punch.

This also allowed us to see how Fangs character has grown from when he was younger. He seems like he was more at the ready to fight physically compared to now. Like I believe Fang would still fight someone if he thought that was what the situation called for. But he’s mellowed a lot since high school, and is more calm overall.

I love this flashback. Not only was it incredible to learn that Tan and Fang used to be little delinquents lol. It showed us not just how much Tan and Fang have not only grown in their relationship, but also as people. And it was a great addition to the episode.

Like, these two are the only ones in this series...

ok I take it back, no one has shipped Ben and Brooklyn or Darius and Sammy as far as I'm concerned, but they have such limited screentime together I can see why.

They're the only well-developed and HEALTHY non-romantic duo in this series.

But like, Brook, Kenji, and Darius all had this really...weird and unexplained love triangle going on. Like I swear I wasn't the only one picking up on Brooklyn and Darius in Season 1 and 2, but then it shifts to Kenji for no real reason. Then obviously Yaz and Sammy were hinted at since the very first episode lol, but these two.

They're not even really as sibling-coded as Darius and Kenji (Yet another ship that I hope no one wanted to sail because...ew. their brothers yall. BROTHERS). They're just...different. I really don't know how to explain it. Honestly the best way I can explain it is with these two vvv

Yaz would definitely call Ben "Dingus" and make a "You Rule | You Suck" board I will die on this hill.

all i wanted at the time was to see steve and bucky reuniting and maybe teaming up again. mostly bc i shipped them lol, but i rlly loved the winter soldier movie, i think it was the one that made me love steve. it had a great premise and relevant themes to his arc.

and while i get that bucky killed tony's parents, i feel like involving the other avengers just took focus away from steve. like there are so many characters to care about here, not only tony but also wanda, vision, t'challa, natasha etc. hell, tony is way more intriguing to me in this movie than the actual title hero. and that is not good.

i would've loved a third cap movie focusing on steve and his past, besides his friendship with bucky. like more about his mother. she only gets one mention in civil war, not a single flashback (and i believe you can only know through the tie-in comics).

again, i do like civil war for giving me irondad, for introducing me to t'challa, but like. why couldn't you make ANOTHER movie? an AVENGERS movie? and give steve another movie that could've developed him more?

I'M FLATTERED YOU'RE INTERESTED TBH HAHA

Jolligig was raised by a single mother! He has no father to speak of and she was/is very protective of him. Maybe a little too protective.

He was born with magical abilities but his mother repressed them from a very young age due to her own paranoia and fear of how people would take advantage of her son if they knew. (This plays an important part in the story later when Fawful discovers what Jolligig is capable of.)

Relating to the previous one - his penchant for potion brewing develops from combining his drink mixing expertise picked up from Starbeans with his magic as he begins to cultivate his natural abilities. Jolli's brews are not entirely science, but definitely contain supernatural properties as well depending on what kind of energy he imbues them with.

Jolli's favorite customers stopping into Starbeans are the Toads who travel in from Little Fungitown. He says it's because they have the best manners and most interesting stories to tell. (this only applies to early on in the story since he does leave his job there to go off with Fawful!)

While he worked at Starbeans, he regularly conned extra cash from customers by manipulating the tip system.

He has wanderlust and has always dreamed of traveling the world, feeling like remaining in the Beanbean Kingdom holds him back and otherwise stunts his growth. He felt as if he had a lot of potential and a desire to manifest it but had no idea where to place this ambition. Fawful helps him with both of these things and Jolli is able to help Fawful with his own problems in turn. Their relationship is a very mutual give and take from one another. <3

He has a very juvenile sense of humor that he shares with Fawful - the both of them can often be found laughing together at things many others would raise their eyebrows at.

He's incredibly stubborn. Once Jolligig has made his mind up about something there is NO changing it.

He can be a bit sensitive at times, especially when it comes to people he's close to. Fawful's blunt manner of speaking has accidentally hurt his feelings on more than one occasion but the two of them have perfected their communication to where any tension never lasts long before they're making out again.

I had a great idea of a angst scenario.

What if (Name) was a adventurer, a very good one, but they were never granted a vision. So they always would get hurt and go to Bubu Pharmacy so Baizhu could heal them. They develop feelings for the doctor, but he is scared - because of his illness, research and job. So he keeps on professional, never doing anything but treat (Name) and nod to their flirts, even though he felt a weight be lifted off his shoulders with their presence, his sickness pain slightly subsiding. (Name), swaying in her cloak, would bring a small gift from everywhere they went this time to Baizhu, a flower, trinket, new herb, even a pretty pebble they saw. Baizhu would only nod with a bland 'thank you', put the present away in front of them.

Late, when the pharmacy was closing, he would pick it with utmost care, and put it on a box with only (Name)'s presents and letters.

(Name) tries asking Baizhu for dinner, to show their appreciation for taking care of them almost everyday. He says something of being occupied today, so (Name) tries proposing another date. After a long day with rude customers at the Pharmacy, and Afraid of what would come if they stayed together, he is very rude while rejecting (Name).

"I can't afford getting distracted by you, (Name)! Not today, not tomorrow, never! I am tired of your tries or whatever this is - i have a hard job and a terrible illness to find a cure! Don't you see?!" Something like this.

(Name) gets heartbroken, as they didn't expect such reaction, only asking for a simple dinner, no ill means behind it. (Name) leaves in a hurry - too sad to even cry.

After that day, (Name) doesn't comes back to the Bubu Pharmacy. Qiqi is sad, looking to her notebook where (Name)'s name is, and at the door. Changsheng starts to eat less, missing (Name)'s bright soul and pats everyday.

Baizhu is terrified, guilty, feeling even more sick nowadays - what has he done? Just scare them off like that, for a simple ask of a dinner? His heart hurts, it's painful to even think of what he said.

A few months later, he decides to search for (Name), leaving the Pharmacy to Qiqi and his aprentice. He arrives in Sumeru, the place (Name) always talked so fondly of.

Walking around, he sees in Puspa Coffee a familiar cloak. Grabing the persons shoulder in hurry, looking disheveled, he discovers is a woman, not at all (Name).

"Are you... Doctor Baizhu?" The woman asks, her eyes wide. Baizhu can only nod, feeling drained of the run - damn this disease.

"(Name) told me a lot about you!" The woman smiles sadly, her female bodyguard coming behind her to see what was the problem.

The woman releases a few small tears, cleaning it with her hands, having a sad expression. "It's horrible how they died."

"What?"

okay, so, im using this post to coalesce all my thoughts about this movie character by character, and no this is not proofread/edited

LAST WARNING FOR SPOILERS (also this post is just long asl)

Miles:

MY DAYS!!!! he is such a cool character. his entire struggle is about trying to fulfill others expectations and growing to find himself despite those expectations. AND GOD if that is not the teenage struggle. he doesn't want to disappoint his parents, but he also want to live up to being spiderman. AND he's still struggling with the grief of not being able to see his ppl (gwen, peter, etc) again bc they're in other dimensions.

ALSO, I love how his character represents the struggle of morality (get it? morales, morals- nvm). everyone in the world has different morals and different ideas on how to enforce right and wrong. a major point in this movie is what happens when you force your morals onto everyone else

Gwen:

ALSO ANOTHER COOL CHARACTER!!! like im still mad that she kinda betrays miles by never telling him the whole story. BUT OMG her character is such an interesting exploration of identity and trust (and also how much hurt you cause even when u think ur doing the right thing; bc girl why didnt u tell miles what was going on).

her dad unknowingly hunting her the whole time is such a cool part too. like it speaks to how parents can make their children feel unsafe with uninformed opinions and biases, aka all his comments of how dangerous spider woman is even though he doesn't know the full story (i.e. spouting homophobic things around you child not knowing they're gay; or supporting the criminalization of things like weed despite stats showing that such a petty offence is used to put undeserving ppl behind bars (btw these r just random examples))

Hobie:

ISTG I LOVE HIM SO MUCHHHH!!!!! his character is such a good tribute to what a punk ACTUALLY is. especially in a time where skinheads and sharps are such a pervasive problem in the community (also fuck all the yt ppl who ruined the term skinhead, you appropriated british-jamaican culture and put it with nazis, i fucking hate you). despite all the disdain everyone held for him and his idc attitude, the one thing hobie was consistently is KIND. he barely knew miles for more than 20-mins and still helped him when shit went south bc that's what punk is meant to be. its community support, kindness, and righting the wrongs made by the establishment.

Pavitr:

I ALSO LOVE HIM TOOO!!!!! his character is so happy-go-lucky and positive (and honestly the opposite of most peters that we see). im sad we didn't get to see more of him and his universe except for setting up the plot of spot and miles being an anomaly.

Miguel:

THIS BITCH!!!! I LOVE AND HATE HIM!! he's such a well developed antagonist. esp bc he's not actually a villain, he's just another spiderman. he's such a good analysis on what happens when a person thinks that suffering is inevitable/is required to develop as a person.

AND YES WE FUCKING KNOW WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU BREAK CANON! i keep seeing analyses of his character that keep asking 'well how do we rlly know what happens?' he tells you, the movie tells you, EVERYONE TELLS YOU what happens. the only reason he is the way he is, is bc he broke the canon and got punished by the narrative for it. now, this isn't to say that what he's doing is right (trading lives for one another), just that it makes sense from his perspective.

Jessica:

another adult that i kinda hate.

but i get it, she has a baby and her own home dimension to protect. but damn, this isn't the way to do it. she's another wonderful example of what happens when ppl believe that suffering is necessary (like yes, suffering happens, everyone will suffer; but the whole thing about being a hero is to prevent suffering when you can!!! not to enforce your ideal of what morality is).

both her, peter, and miguel represent one major part of the generational divide between gen x and gen z. SO MANY ppl in gen x (jessica, peter b, miguel, any other older iterations of spiderman) believe that struggle is required, and that things shouldn't improve so that future generations have to struggle like they did. but ppl in gen z (miles, gwen, hobie, pravitr) are suffering from decisions we didn't make, being tasked with fixing these problems so future generations DONT suffer like we have to.

Peter B:

my dude, you fucked up, you have to accept that before you keep trying to apologize. stop shoving your fucking baby in everyone's face

once again, a perfect example of why you can't try to enforce your morality on everyone (except he's not as clear cut as jessica and miguel bc he switched sides in the end). i think he (and gwen) knew what they were doing was wrong lowkey. but didn't understand just how cruel it was until it happened to someone (miles) they cared about personally, which is a whole commentary in and of itself. and honestly, i think he still wouldn't have realized it if miles went along with it instead of fighting to save ppl.

Mile's parents:

they act just like my caribbean father and aa mother istg

they are the best outcome of 'your parents are ppl too'. they sacrificed so much to get miles to where he is and want to make sure he doesn't waste his opportunities in life. they're the perfect example of well-meaning parents, and im SO GLADDDD that they start learning to listen to miles. im so excited to see how their relationship with miles develops in the next movie.

Gwen's dad:

a perfect example of what happens when you jump to conclusions like its the olympics.

(like most cops) he doesn't investigate the other factors to peter's death and just goes with the most obvious lead, spider-woman. which, eventually, costs him his daughter (quite literally... he fucking shoots at her). BUT, it was SOOOO refreshing to see him grow because he realized that his job was ruining his relationship with his daughter.

The spider ppl of the first movie:

we can ALWAYS talk about him lashing out at everyone because it DOES THINGS TO MY BRAIN…. cuz like no matter the context we talk abt it in, romantic platonic wtvr, it’s undeniable that kuwabara and yusuke love each other. and yk you imitate the people you love, and i think him lashing out like that is another yusukeism that kuwabara absorbed. bc when yusuke’s hurt, or when he hurts someone else, he’ll usually double down to run from his guilt. and yk this changes throughout the course of the show bc character development, but kuwabara i feel embodies that so strongly here. because he’s got so much frustration built up from his personal life, to that inferiority complex in regards to his place in team urameshi from dark tournament going largely unresolved i think, and how kuwabara’s kinda just. defined himself entirely by yusuke’s presence?

bc kuwabara has this strong fixation on yusuke, has since he first lost to him in a street fight. bc yusuke was the first person to beat him, kuwabara not only beating saw him as a goal to work towards, but also as a fighter he respects. and the more he loses, the more they fight, the more yusuke is cemented as this untouchable pillar of strength in kuwabara’s eyes. so its constant, he’s feeding into this— let’s call it what it is— obsession day after day, so when yusuke dies for the first time, kuwabara just. doesn’t know what to do with himself. because if you mold your free time, your goals, your motivation, your brain space around one person, you become dependent on them. so even when yusuke’s gone he clings to tightly to his memory, even though as far as he knew, him and yusuke weren’t even friends. but then despite all odds, yusuke comes back. so kuwabara, both consciously and not, follows him. clings to his side because what else has he done in the last year or so, other than follow urameshi’s guiding light? but yusuke isn’t a guiding force he’s not wise nor honorable, he’s immature and brash and unpredictable— and the thing is, kuwabara knows that. and i think he loves that about him. bc once yusuke sees kuwabara for who he really is in The Promise, they both come to understand each other more intimately (shouldn’t have laughed when i typed that i have the maturity of a twelve year old boy.)

the codependency is a two way street and THATS what makes it so compelling. the main difference between them is, when kuwabara loves someone he clings onto them, holds them tightly and never lets them go. when yusuke loves someone, he pushes them away. the deeper the connection the farther the distance because (at least i think) he views himself as inherently bad, dangerous, which is something reinforced throughout his childhood by adults with his relationship with keiko, and in his teen years with the mortal danger being associated with him brings to keiko, and later on (more often,) kuwabara. they’re both so violently dependent on one another, and at first they’re on equal footing. delinquents with shitty or absent parents and bad reputations who fight instead of talking. (puts on tinfoil hat) yusuke communicates though fighting because anger and violence were safe emotions for him growing up, both a defense mechanism to shield vulnerability and an offensive weapon against those who wanted to hurt him. kuwabara is a much more emotionally vulnerable person, but can speak yusuke’s language of fighting. yusuke wants to throw hands? sure yeah why not. it’s both a means of affection (getting on each others nerves as a love language lol) and a method of communicating difficult emotions. and it works for a time because like i said, equals.

then yusuke becomes mazoku, and they’re not on equal footing anymore. now, yusuke’s forever tethered to makai and kuwabara has a future in ningenkai, a normal, human life to live that yusuke believes he could never be apart of. yusuke thinks that keeping kuwabara at arms length is the best way to protect him, help him in his own way bc “distance = safety.” but ofc this doesn’t help bc kuwabara doesn’t ever want to be without yusuke, especially after losing him again in chapter black. but yk, duty calls, and yusuke leaves anyway.

my feelings abt this scene conflict so heavily bc on one hand nooo kuwameshi divorce :[ but on the other, i think it is at its core good for them as characters and their relationship PLZ HEAR ME OUT LET ME EXPLAIN. all that time with yusuke gone forces kuwabara to come into his own away from yusuke, define who he is and allow him to hone his ambitions on personal goals rather than revolving his life entirely around him. and ofc with yusuke, he’s facing his problems, conflicting emotions with his heritage and all head on. it’s not flawlessly written ofc, and there’s definitely more than a few things that could’ve been touched on more, but as a whole i think both of them needed the space from one another. it’s a step in the right direction for their relationship i guess, at least for kuwabara.

also, more of a side note than anything, but “i’m gonna miss your weak ass punches the most” bro didn’t you just propose to keiko???? justice for my girl istg ＿|￣|○ DUMP HIS ASS…… cough anyway.

they’re such. they’re such dudes, man. intense codependency fiercely loyal to and protective of one another but also they’d NEVER admit they actually like each other. constantly bickering getting into fist fights over stupid shit but like it’s kind of mutually understood “i would die for you but you’re Not allowed to die for me” it’s so DUMB. i want them to kiss and have a big fat gay wedding but i also want to jump into my computer screen and walk across the pacific ocean like fucking jesus just to beat their asses because ITS SO. Literally started on pole, had a great start, led every lap, had a good pitstop, managed his tyres and pulled a stunning lead on mv, managed every safety car restart perfectly, set fastest lap after fastest lap and set the new race lap record, the first man all weekend to dip into the 1.18, 1.17 etc etc, and won in a stunning way while overtaking backmarkers on the last lap and still setting another fastest lap and snagging driver of the day for the third time this season and has a grand slam!!
