ben is the history (indoctrinate kids to hate hank yk usual history stuff) + science (bro actually wanted to be an engineer but was forced to stay forever agent so this is his other means. this is in the original too XD) teacher and general form teacher, very passionate for his job but lets kids procrastinate if they had enough info he has given.

gives no one homework and every kid loves him (except one), especially for how he dramatically explains things in a fun wacky way. he can be strict if a kid is particularly rebellious. it's shi xuan. (they hate each other like siblings but he secretly adores him when pol shows her off to him)

vee is the maths and english teacher, along with bonus lessons for massive ass gun knowledge. very nervous for everyone instead, especially for exams, so she gives a bunch of homework to make extra extra sure her kids understood it.

but she makes sure to gift them lots of toys (albeit strange) and sometimes candy (knock off ones). the kids still love them anyway, and look forward to it after they finish their exams

soldat is still mute and reserved but immensely disciplined. he teaches foreign language, and sign language, though has vee and ben together to help out conveying what he means. he's also in charge of sports, kinda treats it like a military camp but not as brutal xD

would probably send the whole class to detention if he deems it appropriate lmao, but also he's the most understanding. he makes sure to pay attention to every single kid, praising and criticising when necessary (if they understand him). no one is left behind. if someone (especially shi) is outcast, he accompanies them regardless if they're terrible students

Just played To The Moon Beach Episode

Just kidding it's been almost one month since I played and I'm NOT over it.

Chronologically taking place sometime after the end of Impostor Factory, specifically after the Bestest Dancers comic.

Happy note first, I LOVE the surfing minigame. I played with all 4 characters just so I could get all the winner banners lmao.

Also the conversations, when funny, are funny as fuck, classic Freedbird Games.

My favorites were the night pool scene and the basement scene. I LOST MY SHIT lmaooo.

The beach memories with messages from players is so cool and heartwarming. Is there any way I can put my message there too? I'd probably write an essay inside tho.

Kan (and I assume his wife and son?) makes an appearance is so cute.

On the other hand, it is indeed the most depressing beach episode.

Or rather, the first half was wacky as shit with just a sliver of hints, and then BOOM DEPRESSION.

The aforementioned night pool scene? When I picked "says nothing" I laughed my ass off. Then I restarted the game at that point and picked "show approval" thinking that it would lead to another hilarious exchange. It slapped me with realistic truth and sad what-ifs instead.

I knew it'd be sad like there are hints but DAMN I DIDN'T EXPECT FREEBIRD GAMES TO ACTUALLY GO DOWN THIS ROUTE I REALLY THOUGHT THEY WOULDN'T, I JUST DIDNT EXPECT IT WOULD COME LIKE RIGHT NOW 😭

Kan Gao made To the Moon when he was mulling over mortality since his grandpa had life-threatening illness, and since then it has always been about grief and questions revolving death and life.

And I personally feel like the Beach Episode is the peak of everything the series is about: Grief, regret, what-if, the parameter of "a great life."

After following the series for around a decade, it just hits so hard I still don't even know what to say.

You know, when you think about it, what happened to Neil and Eva is exactly the opposite of Quincy and Lynri.

The only reason why Neil never confesses to Eva, despite loving her since teenager, was because he knew the pain of losing a loved one like how his father Quincy lost his mother Lynri, and Neil didn't want that to happen to Eva.

And it was all for nothing. Eva still ends up doing exactly what Neil fears, and WORSE.

Not only she suffers watching him die and losing him in the end, she keeps reliving all their days together. Since the very first game in fact. It's the only explanation why there was pain signal even in real life back in the first game and why the Minisode had Eva in her room.

It begs the question, would it have been better if he admitted his condition and feelings for Eva sooner? If instead of fearing what would happen in the end, Neil opened up earlier, like how Lynri did to Quincy? If Neil and Eva had more time, if Eva had more time to prepare, if they had more time to be together in the way that they've always wanted, if they had more time to make peace with the knowledge of what would come together, would it be any better?

I personally don't know the answer to that. At first glance, I thought the answer would be yes. But somewhere in my heart, I knew it'd still hurt anyway. It'd be just a different kind of pain. And I don't know if it's fundamentally right to compare those pains.

Music 🎶 I've pretty much always have music on to make my day the best it can be. I was reminiscing with a friend, as a little kid my parents got me mini radios I would have on all day/night with my cheap little earbuds. Soon after that, I got a stereo that you could pull off the speakers individually so, I would take one and plug it into my handheld radio (and eventual mp3 player) to blast music when I showered lol

My Niece 💝 I can't believe she's about to be 3 years old in a few days! She's the light of our life! It's so cool to see her learning more and more everyday. Video Games 🎮 This year has been so great and we've only just made it to April LMAO! Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was really huge for me and absolutely blew my mind! I'm SUPER looking forward to Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail this summer, that's absolutely going to take over my life 😌

TV 📺 I am a couch potato, no doubt about it. Just like video games, I really love to let my mind get swept up into the different worlds people write up! Lately I got into Frieren which has been so fun, funny, and touching. Also checking out Palm Royale on Apple TV which has been silly and intriguing. Dungeon Meshi has been super wacky, loving that a lot too! I'm always looking forward to something new and I equally love doing a rewatch (like Psych! Never get tired of rewatching that!)

I think the whole point is that Taylor’s lyrics create contradictions because they’re song lyrics. It’s art, it’s dramatized, it’s embellished. You can’t take song lyrics and use them to make actual real statements about real people and their very real issues. Because when you do that, you basically have to end up picking and choosing what you want to draw from art since a lot of contradicts things. You say Taylor only popped off about Matty on Question…? and TTPD, but Taylor literally got up onstage and said Cardigan was about Matty. And seemingly tied Maroon to him and implied other songs on Folklore/Evermore were also about him, at least in some way. So that would be more than one album, if you take what she’s saying at face value and then it would be a lot more eyebrow raising. But does that mean she was seriously thinking about him that seriously? No, she was embellishing for art because it’s a good artistic storyline. Just like anything else in her music, she has an artistic license to embellish. Saying “sometimes I think other girls really want Joe because he’s such a gorgeous London boy but also I’m not that worried because he always comes right home to me and it’s not a big deal and also I sometimes think about other guys too but again it’s not a big deal because I still come home to Joe” is kinda like….okay and? Like that’s boring, just typical relationship stuff. Not that interesting in a song. So instead, she dramatizes it. As she has the right to do so. But that artistic, dramatic version of events is just that.

Reads of 2023 Part II (so far)

i was sad i couldn't fit all the cover pictures in my Part I post without it going off the screen, so might as well split it into 2 posts! update as of 6/11!

thoughts/reviews:

Heaven Official's Blessing: Volume 1

It's happening! My friends have been deep in this author's works/fandom for a while now, I'm pretty late to the party... Well, I guess I've dabbled in some of the animated/live action content that's out there for the different series. Anyway, this was a fun read! There's something so lush about historical dramas that definitely comes through here. When you add in the bits of humor and adventure, the whole story is really refreshing.

Even though the translation is still a tiny bit unprofessional, it's clearer than other options, haha. I was able to get a way better sense of the world and characters on this attempt (I had a good time watching the animated show! But as my friend put it, the season moved lightning fast, so it brushed over a lot of things). I don't have any other real nitpicks, other than like... the odd sexism that pops up now and then. Lmao

I am ofc in love with the main characters... They invented love... They invented devotion... I'm also delighted by the pace of things! Their relationship has managed to be both teasingly slow (like, the gradual reveal of Hua Cheng's true identity) but also very satisfyingly forward (the escorting!! the painting!! the righteous anger!!). Excited to see where things go with them, and the rest of the cast! (3.5/5—would be a 4, but the translation still kind of hampers things.)

Naomi Vandoren's Forest of Light

The second art book I bought from this artist! Same thoughts as before; for a quick browse, this was a refreshing little collection. Her style is just nice and soothing, with some fun surrealism/dreamscape vibes thrown in.

I'm not sure I'll buy any more of these, since the book didn't add quite as much insight into the works as I was hoping. Plus some of the concepts don't really resonate with me/seem that well researched...

I think one of my favorite things included was this abstract work the artist did—she wrote that she started with random watercolor mark-making, and then turned that into a piece. Those were very cool explorations! (2.5/5)

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Last Olympian

Done!! With the series! (Unless... It looks like there might be some followups to the main story?) I understand why the darker tone got dialed up, and other than the excursion with Nico, why the story kind of broke from the wacky-roadtrip vibe of the others. It made sense, while still keeping some of the lighthearted narration from the others, which was nice. I think what I appreciate the most about the series is the fun it has with its world. (Side note—I watched the movie based on the first book recently, and I can only assume it didn't do well! Bc omg, it completely missed the mood of the books. Instead of lingering on the whimsy, they focused on... making Grover a very cringey stereotype? Nah.) (ALSO??? THEY CUT OUT MY DAUGHTER CLARISSE????? THE AUDACITY???????)

I think my biggest gripe with the book was the very weird way the Annabeth-Percy-Rachel dynamic was handled. Like, it just got kind of tiring after a bit, especially with the way Annabeth acted so uncharacteristically catty at times. Plus, like, Percy's off falling in love with Calypso after like 5 minutes, the girl is right that he's kind of flighty. Rachel's ending also felt, just... eh.

Other than that, I was very into the last book!! There were some really moving character moments, like, Nico struggling with his place in the story, everything we learned about Luke... AND THE BIGGEST MASTERSTROKE OF ALL!!! I have been waiting to scream about the sapphic Patrochilles take??? At the end??? Clarisse has two hands and she can hold both Chris's and Silena's. She was moved to go into battle!!!! For her!!!!! She defeated one of the most terrifying foes in NO ARMOR just with a SICK ASS SPEAR and I LOVE HER. Anyway no notes, except they better do Clarisse justice in the new adaptation or I will riot. (4/5)

Secrets of the Oak Woodlands

Ooo I'm out of practice doing these reviews... Mostly from a funny cocktail of outside factors slowing me down, but also because nonfiction can be such a slog for me to get through. Tragic, because I do want to learn more ecology, I'm just... bad at it. Anyway! Bought this book on a fun West Coast road trip, I think I picked this up in the Sequoia National Park gift shop? The writing itself is great, especially how it tackles some pretty complex concepts in a way that's approachable. The book doesn't feel like Baby's First Nature Guide, but it also doesn't completely lose me when it explores why coyote populations actually rise when they're hunted or why Oak Mistletoe is a keystone species.

Even though the watercolor illustrations in the book were lovely, I sort of wish the visuals could have focused more on the tougher scientific concepts being explained. Like, instead of the illustrated "anecdote" of a quail sitting sentry, it could have been good to have a cross-section diagram of an oak gall or something. I guess it's always hard to balance interest and clarity in scientific writing, though. Overall, I think this was a pretty good eco-starter book! I'm just a square peg trying to force myself into a round hole, reading these nonfiction books. (So... 3/5?)

The Dragon's Bride

Hoo boy... Hoo boy... Listened to this audiobook at the recommendation of my friend who's very into erotica/romances. Which was an adventure, for me! To start with the good points, I really like the founding premise of this whole world/story. Deals with demons walk that perfect line for me of intricate and taboo power dynamics—and at the same time, the author satisfied my inner hopeless romantic by making all the demons (that we've met so far, at least) morally viable! So yeah, the world building and characterization is really nice, tbh.

I think my two sticking points are the smut itself, and that I didn't find these particular protags very compelling... It's interesting comparing this to, say, an above-average smut fic. On the one hand this has better prose, but on the other hand the smut veered into being a little too flowery now and then... (not to say all the sex scenes were like that. Uh. There were some choice ones.) I also personally found the frequency of the sex scenes a little ridiculous, but for most people that's probably a positive! 😂 And then, when it comes to the main characters themselves, I think they were well-rounded and the dynamic itself made sense. The personalities just aren't the kind I normally latch onto, though—they're not my blorbos, you know? So, where I'd go into a smut fic already attached (and therefore more into the smut itself), these... I could take it or leave it, haha.

That said, this installment did pique my interest for others in the series. I'm curious about the one with the succubus........ And the one with Eve..................... Those tidbits seem more up my alley. :] Also, the voice acting was pretty fun, tbh. They got separate VAs for Briar and Sol, the two POV characters, and they knocked it out of the park (even/especially in the smut scenes)! (well, except for a very funny instance where the guy VA had to voice Briar's lines in a smut scene in a Sol POV chapter. Damn, did he try.) Another recommendation!! From a different friend! Apparently this book is popular on booktok but since booktok sounds like a cesspool (not really—pls don't come for me) I'm glad I didn't know that going in. As a purveyor and avid consumer of slice-of-life fluff.......... I loved this!!! First of all, the main character is My Kind of Girl, and exactly the kind of character I want to see getting a happy ending. Then, the rest of cast provided so many different kinds of delight—the warm Found Family feeling of a grumpy kind father figure and an adorable little Creature baking actual cinnamon rolls and a prim but secretly dorky girlfriend and and and—so many greats! Even the antagonists were enjoyable, in their way.

Hmmm... for the negative part of my postive-negative-positive sandwich, I think I'd just echo what I've seen in a few other reviews—I could have done with a teensy bit more of the romance. Or I guess, more of the cuteness of it? All we really got was a little bit of lead-up and then a big get-together, but I feel like the romance scenes I like most (shy flirting, a tiny bit of pining) got sort of skipped over. It's not a huge negative! Especially for this story, which seemed like it hit exactly the balance the author intended. Yeah, I might have just had the epilogue cover the main ship being cute and in love, instead of the little righteous vengeance scene that we got.

So this was a perfect little comfort listen (audiobook again! with really nice acting done by the author himself!). I saw other people calling the first chapters slow, but tbh I loved the steady, hopeful mood that came from all that straightforward hard work happening and then paying off. A great story, if you go in with the right expectations! (4.5/5) (P.S.: also this article touches on some other L&L points that I think explain why it resonates so well in post-pandemic life) (P.P.S. now I'm trying to parse out why I liked this book so much more than House in the Cerulean Sea... I think part of it is that the cast felt more respected? Like, it was more than just The Most Special-est Pretty Boy and his Plucky Boyfriend Fix Fantasy Racism)

Today is being wildly eventful and I'm just high enough to spill on here

So

- Woke up at 4am after going to sleep at 2 and couldn't fall asleep again because stress and lack of meds and also sperm donor being an egotistical ungrateful piece of shit

- A friend paid for my meds so I went to the city to get them

- Got an email from shitty prof saying we have classes tomorrow but I can't fucking go especially since it's not even a real fucking class and I don't have money to come to the damn city again

- For some reason ADHD meds are hard to get without ordering them and it was sold out or something in 6 different pharmacies. Save for one who miraculously had one bottle

- I was crying by then and had to walk a lot

- Decided to go to a church to feel the energy maybe shake off the goddamn evil luck

- Unsure if that worked

- Walked to get the meds and had to keep focused all the way because everything was overwhelming

- Got meds, then went to sit and have some tea

- While having tea a guy and a girl sat down at the table in front of me and started talking about the wildest stuff while the meds hit for me. She looked and by the sound of it was some sort of mini IG model and he looked like he was part of a podcast. She was wearing foundation two shades lighter than her skin (she was white, mind) and it was absolutely caked and I don't mind saying that because she randomly started slut shaming other women while the guy just laughed awkwardly. Then they started talking about jail and torture. I think they both had ofs because they kept talking about taking pictures and "doing things for money" before the random jail talk

- I wasn't hungry at all so all I had was a cup of caramel coffee and a cookie from Subway

- Decided to take the bus because it was cheaper than the Uber and I was in no condition to walk more especially considering that I still have to walk home (on the train rn)

- At the bus stop I stood up to let this old lady sit and she was very grateful

- Lady didn't know my gender and said like 'oh thank you sweet girl or boy I can't tell but you look lovely'. Made this miserable week feel less shit. Yes it's only Tuesday. Pray for my ass I guess lol

- Went to get some drawing paper for my brother. Some old man at the shop was asking the clerk for glue and she pointed him towards the glue but apparently he wanted dentures glue lmao and was trying to get it from irl AliExpress

PART 2!

Genshin character Judgement after all these years of playing. I will judge looks, personality, and say my favorite voice! Starting with 4-stars, alphabetical order.

Aside from his goofy ass shoes I really like Sethos' design! His personality too is pretty great... I do not have him tho. How upsetting (tho I guess I wouldnt be using him as he is a bow DPS so it doesnt actually matter LMAO) His color palate is very fun and i really like his acid green eyes. I wish he had a dark skin tone tho.

His EN voice is definitely my favorite. The VA reminds me a lot of Ittos where hes just so animated and fun. Sethos' AHH ITS A MONSTER chest opening line is SO fucking funny. Love him. His KN voice is kinda weird.

Oh Kuki... her design is SO fun. The color palate is so standout. The fact she is the straight-man only female character in a group of goofy dudes trope is so lame. I hate that trope so much it prevents me from liking her as much as I would have... sorry babe its not your fault.

All her voices are good. I have no strong opinions just like her personality.

OOH BABYGIRL. Shes so cute. Her personality really shined in the Windblume festival with Sucrose. It was so lovely. Ive always loved Sucrose but that really justified it for me. I also surprisingly really like the navy with her seafoam green hair and gold eyes. its a little weird but fun!

I really like the voices besides the JP which sounds a little too baby to me but my favorite is the EN. I like that its somewhat whispery and soft spoken but also very earnest. It really displays the character well.

Whenever I look at him I think 'I HAVE THE POWER OF GOD AND ANIME ON MY SIDE' Goofy ass design. His shoes... ya know I just noticed how weird they are... why did they even bother to open the toe if they were just gonna cover them anyways.... GOOFY ASS DESIGN. Personality tho? S TIER. Good lad. I thought hed be like Childe cuz they look so much alike.... and thats kinda true. Thoma is like Childe if Childe didnt have rabies ya know? LMAO

I like all his voices except EN... not that EN is terrible but the others are just way better.

MY BABYGIRL. Xiangling is so god damn cute and normal in this fucked up magical world. This bitch is just a normal ass cook in a weird environment... it reminds me kinda like in a dream like you see weird shit around you but your dream self just sorta reacts to it like its some mundane thing... Like the fact Xiangling sees a massive Hydra about to destroy the city she is in and her first thought is 'I wonder what that tastes like' LIKE BITCH WHAT!? LMAO... I love her. Wacky ass broad.

All her voices are pretty great. I like her CN VA best.

Oh Xingqiu... hes either a proper upstanding young man... or a troll. It can go either way. Technically hes probably my least favorite Liyue-born character... but I still like him. I really like he design too. Even tho the shorts are kinda goofy. He did get a costume but it just looks like a shittier version of Furis so I dont use it.

All his voices are pretty good. I have no preference.

MY BABIEST GIRL. I love Xinyan. Her design (somewhat detached sleeves aside) and her personality are both S tier. I do think her lore is pretty funny tho... because its like 'People dont like Xinyan because of her nontraditional styles of music and fashion!!!' but every character in game falls in love with her instantly... LMAO Which??? Fair. Shes truly lovely but Id actually LIKE to see her struggle against the prejudice she supposedly receives. Fingers crossed for a hangout event!

Her JP and KN voices are my favorite! theyre very fun. Her EN voice was certainly a choice... heres what I think happened... She has the same VA as Barbara and Barbaras early voice sounded more rough and raspy... I think when Xinyan was being voiced they must have realized the voice was similar to Barbaras early voice(which did not fit her) and didnt want to confuse the players so they gave her a weird accent. Now she sounds like Applejack. LMAO Weird ass choice. They could never get me to hate you tho Xinyan.

Yanfei.... I love you but your design is a lot like Chevs and Kirara sexy at the expense of good design. Although unlike them I like most of the elements of your design. or maybe rather I like the accessories? Even the detached sleeves! But the main outfit is so fucking lame its crazy.

Her EN and JP voices are best for me. IDKY she sounds so baby in CN and KR... a rare L for the CN VA casting director.

OOOH MY BABY YAOYAO. Her design was a leaked SO long ago and I anxiously waited for her... shes so damn cute! I love her colors, overall design, the fact she acts like a grandma.... shes so cute. I love when babies act like adults (in a professional sense. like that Haribo commercial where theyre dressed in business outfits talking about gummibears... its so fucking cute and funny. Shes like that.) She also has a very fun kit! And i C6d her so easily! Blessed.

All her voices are pretty good. CN is my favorite.

ANOTHER BABYGIRL. Liyue is so full of babygirls. The nation of babygirls fr. The only thing I DONT like about her is how she reminds me that the HYV team can do really great work showing the culture which the nations are inspired by but they dont even do HALF as well with Sumeru or Natlan despite those regions having so much good cultural aesthetic to work with. SMDH. Yun Jin is gorgeous and she has a very cute personality. I love that shes besties with Xinyan. thats so damn cute.

Appropriately I love the CN voice the most but all of them are pretty good.

NOW IDK the star-rating or VAs for the Natlan cast so Im just judging that these are 4-stars. I THINK Kachina has been confirmed 4-star.

Kachina has a VERY cute design I think based on the PIKA or some volcano rabbit I forgot what people were saying. I wish they went with a different color palate overall but she is very cute.

Iansan also has a really nice design overall. I like the goldenrod & orange color with the purple (like with Sethos) however they did change the vibe of her from the old trailer. She seems much more subdued now and they made her skull accessory more cutesy. Shame. But still... how many white hair elf babies do we need?

Citlali is probably one of my least favorite designs. I do like the colors... but other than that. Her personality also seems kinda annoying tsundere-ish which means she'll be insufferably popular cuz god forbid weebs have taste.

Ugh... gross. The more i look at Chascas design the less I like it. if shes not a 4-star I'll be surprised.

Ok this hasn’t been asked abt BUT

I got OrangeJuiceVerse Stan on the brain (again)

Specifically in terms of his protectiveness.

In the last OJV ask I got I mentioned that he and Kyle have the most parental tendencies of the Star Seven, and boy oh boy do I have some thoughts on Stan’s knight in shining armor complex!

I won’t get into the Kyle part of that bc 1) I have talked wayyyy too much abt that on ao3 and here, and 2) that’s a whole separate long ass post and I would probably combust.

But!!! First focusing on the M5:

So growing up together they were all generally referred to as “Stan’s Gang”, which he was like wait why are they my gang but then he grew to love that bc they were his people. He loves them with all of his soul (ojverse Stan is a lover for sure) and he is EXTREMELY protective of everyone and kind of (smh this man) sees himself as the dad of the crew. Done with everyone’s bs, the “fun” parent. A lot of that comes from his resentment of Randy, his desire to keep everyone out of true danger and not be flaky despite his own problems. This is especially poignant with Kenny.

So Stan and Kyle VERY much see Kenny as “their egg” (yes I’m borrowing from the “Stan is a protective father” note of that episode) and they really look out for him growing up bc of his shitty home life. Really all of the M5 have a soft spot for Ken, but Stan and Kenny understand each other on a spiritual level. Though Stan doesn’t consciously know abt Kenny’s immortality and IS his Ride Or Die Disaster Bi in all things reckless, the second something goes wrong he’s there, swooping in and reminding him that “yeah you can be a crazy bastard, but don’t you dare die”. He’s less overbearing than Ky gets when Kenny gets hurt, but he’s there to be like “hey man you’re good, you gotta be careful tho”. He was the first to INSIST that he pay kenny in full for his art and commissions stuff regularly through their entire lives.

With Marj, it’s really, really complex. I mentioned before in my OJV Stan hcs (thank you to the wife for that ask btw) that he was the first person she went to when she realized she was a girl! Bc he’s always been pretty emotionally honest and accepting of everything, and she was dealing with her crush on Kenny too and Stan notoriously THINKS he’s slick in being a massive simp so two birds one stone lmao. He was pretty clueless at first but that protective instinct kicked in and he was like GIRL WE GONNA FIND YOU SOME RESOURCES! Also, I’ll do a post abt how NO ONE in the OJV Star Seven is neurotypical soon, but i briefly mentioned in The Wacky Adventures of Craig And Kyle that Marjorine has the ‘tism as well, and Stan is NOT the person to go to when you’re having a meltdown, but rest assured he WILL get you to someone who is. Like she can tell him “Stan I’m feelin a little…” and he will IMMEDIATELY find her Kenny or Kyle. Kyle’s obviously his go to when things are out of his emotional scope, and that extends to Craig later down the line.

So TWEEK!!! Oh god Tweek and Stan’s relationship in the OrangeJuiceVerse is so important to me. They’re the first encounter of the Broken Bottles Quartet, and that moment when Kyle figures out about Tweek’s problem, Stan was full man-with-the-plan mode about how to help him! Before he takes Tweek to AA, he’s at ye ol’ meetin’ hall talking to the old geezers in the local group and it’s like:

“Hey, Stanny Boy, good to see you back, how you healin up (smh I did break his ribs for good reason I promise) got anything to share?” “Actually yeah, I’m gonna bring someone with me in a few days, but you guys HAVE to give him space he gets really nervous.” And the longtime AA peeps who are prone to being overly friendly back off and let Tweek just listen that first time, and Stan is consistently checking in and with Stan’s support Tweek slowly gets more comfortable, and Stan is SO fucking proud of him and he’s his sponsor for a LONG ASS TIME before he officially is.

As for Cartman, once he moves away, Stan will call him up pretty frequently to check in, like “hey fatass how’s the wedding planning company coming?” “Fuck off, hippie did you get the-“ “YES I got the beef jerky club membership quit sending me that shit” “heh, sweet.” “Asshole, but seriously are you doing okay?” “Yes you photosynthesizing dildo. The Jew looks tired in his last facebook post check on him” “I got him, Cartman” “you guys are assholes” “we love you too” “gross” smh theyre so unserious.

But yeah that’s this episode of me not shutting tf up abt OrangeJuiceVerse

*aa4 spoiler warning for allie*

some super long and rambley thoughts about aa4

story i feel like the final case could have been done differently. i know it's following the pattern of the aa1 and aa2 (intro case > case connected to final and case that's mostly unconnected > final big case) but i think it would have benefited from something similar to aa3, with intermittent trials/investigations to move it along in the background. or even just like mentions of kristoph from apollo, phoenix, or klavier during the investigations.

i did like the mason system and going back and forth between the time periods, in part because i loved and missed phoenix's inner dialogue. the jurist system didn't feel earned, though. one, trying to fix the wacky legal system in this game feels kinda. hard? and why did phoenix need to disappear for days to do that? leaving some space that this could be explained in the next game, but uh. shoulda been in this one.

characters ive been trying to avoid the tags for spoiler reasons, but i know there's some discussion about this version of phoenix and whether it's good characterization or not. haven't read it all, but i will say that it tracks for me (mostly), particularly after the sections where we get to play as him post-disbarring. he does mention having a good poker face, etc. my biggest problem is the lack of maya, pearl, and edgeworth. i get why they aren't present in the game, it's not a PW game, they need new characters. but the fact they aren't reallymentioned casually in dialogue is meh. the most we get is the steel samurai dvds, which i think are from maya despite the "big allowance" comment.

i loved trucy to bits. her design, her writing. A+, she is my fave new character. i loved that she's so sunshiney and straightforward and intentionally shocking. coulda used less panty talk, but i get her shtick.

now, apollo? i feel nothing for. his sorta snarky, straightman internal dialogue + siblingy interactions with trucy just feel like repackaging phoenix + phoenix and maya's dynamic. its cute that theyre actual siblings, but i don't get any sort of distinct character from apollo.

i did not like klavier until the final trial. i don't particularly like characters who are famous musicians, so i was immediately meh on him. his long ass sprite animation of doing the air guitar in trial genuinely pissed me off a few times sjhfgkf. just shut the fuck up about your band oh my godddd. i didn't start to go "oh! ok interesting!" until the final showdown with kristoph and i would have really enjoyed literally any backstory about that.

note that i'm reserving long-term judgement for both apollo and klavier though! i know there are more games and more time to get into them separately.

also note that i have no shipping thoughts at this time. i get why people ship klapollo but it didnt hook me. i was fully prepared to multiship phoenix with kris but i was surprised by how little there was for it. i'm assuming more is coming for both in dd and soj, but yeah. nothing atp.

gameplay was not at all interested in the perception power and found it super annoying to deal with. i just pulled up a guide for most of them so i could get to the next thing. absolutely not a replacement for the magatama. also, the overexplanation of how it worked was weird. it was weird right?

i liked the little investigative bits with ema and being able to move evidence around in 3d to investigate it. nice gameplay break.

the first case was so convoluted but the second and third were relatively easy? felt weird to kick off the game with that trial.

art + music i have a feeling that liking the remasters is probably a controversial opinion. the remastered PW trilogy is meh, but these? chefs kiss, loved the designs for the new characters, the sprites, the bg art. faves were trucy, little plum, and eldoon.

seeing the old phoenix courtroom sprite vs 33 yr old phoenix was jarring lmao. wish they could have updated it/made it more detailed but i get why they wouldn't. still, -10000 points for not having edgeworth, maya, or pearl, in part because seeing them in this more detailed remastered style woulda ruled

i did hate the 3d bit in the lumiroir trial. also the music in that one.

overall, did i like it? yeah actually. not as much as any of the PW trilogy games, but trucy + phoenix + the good art were enough to keep me going. im a little hesitant for dual destinies because ive heard it's rough and does some backsliding for phoenix (who i obviously adore) but i also see edgeworth in that key art. so i must proceed.

starting the last case in apollo justice and i have Thoughts about the game generally but honestly i love trucy wright and would do anything for her. that is all.
