OKAYYYY HELLO today i am thinking about the nitty-gritty of chiaki's technique. the biggest boundary i set for myself is that i want its mechanic to be simple. that allows it to be extremely adaptable and gives it a lot of potential (working in the element of subtraction here) that chiaki just full-stop has no clue how to tap into. brain-dump ahoy.

i'm very bad at paring things down, but it's a skill i need to work on, so we are considering this an Exercise. <3

the gist of it is that to chiaki, cursed energy exists in the form of tangible threads that she can manipulate from a distance. like, that's it. the rules and limits imposed on it have less to do with the technique itself and more to do with chiaki's strength, knowledge/training, cursed energy output, and creativity. she can see cursed energy very sensitively and move it around, on a large scale or a scale as small as the "genetic makeup" of someone's unique signature. it's kind of like if you were able to see the energy processes in the world around you and change them.

which, if you zoom out and think about the implications of it, could be hella adaptable and strong, but it comes with the limitations of its wielder's mind and body. chiaki can train as much as she likes, but she'll never be as physically strong as she would be without a technique (such is the nature of jujutsu.)

in chiaki's case, viewing the threads as — well — threads limits her quite a bit, because she learned how to use her technique by learning how to weave and sew. she sees it as a purely physical force that manipulates objects and sometimes people's body movement. she's too young and too inexperienced to even be capable of thinking about the technique outside of a very very small boundary—

which is why awakening bumps her up the power tier so dramatically. to the detriment of her sanity, a little bit (a lot at first, lol,)
