oh I absolutely love and adore Redux Dude. He's such a cutie, a silly bean, a goofball. I love everything about him: his style, his big arms, his sausage fingers, badass trench coat, cool boots, his belt, his backpack, his wonderful charming green eyes, his big nose, the look of incomprehension of his existence on his face, his ginger hair and goatee.
He looks like a blind kitten who can't find his milk bowl. That's why he's angry.

Is Crowstar really that bad? She killed an apprentice (on accident, while she was also young, if I remember correctly?), a scary tyrannical leader, a weird religious zealot and co. (who all seem pretty antagonistic), and… is blunt? Maybe I’m just desensitized to fictional murder (esp with these cats having a sick afterlife), but she seemed to do most of it in contexts where I can see her point (ex. Defending Fallen in battle, scary leadership, defense). The only part I can really see crowstar being a bad person in bold letters is when she attacks Dapplestar for revenge, but even then.. she has a reason. She believes TreeClan killed her respected friend and deputy, and is lying about it. Idk sorry if this comes across as somebody having to hold my hand that “murder lady is bad”, but in this fictional setting, her actions makes sense
short answer to this is just she likes murdering and murdering is bad. she holds little to no remorse over her actions, really only being somewhat regretful about the things that make her son upset
i dont think Crowstar is morally bankrupt as say, someone like Autumnstar, but a lot of her intentions are in the wrong place. She is also quite unapologetic about her crimes.
a long answer is... complicated. on a scale of evil characters i would put Crowstar on a similar ranking to Sandywing and Emberpelt, those two never killed anyone but they make up for it in other ways. Sandywing I would be tempted to rank more evil than Crowstar but truth be told she only feels like the most evil character because she actively is tormenting the POV character (which I'll come back to this pov mention in a minute) you are right that murder in cat-land is quite a bit different than murder in the real life world, but its more about why they did it how i would personally rank evilness within the comic is like, what their feelings/intent/goals are and also how much influence their actions have and how well the rest of the cats can recover from it.
So Autumnstar would be hands down the most evil cat as he is responsible for (directly and indirectly) responsible for a lot damage that the clans are still undoing. Crowstar, his protege, is not helping it be undone. She's still promoting both tyranny within Oceanclan and aggravation/violence against Treeclan, even though Dapplestar has clearly expressed multiple times they don't want to do this anymore.
Things Crowstar has done to keep this cycle of violence going are killing 4 clanmates as her first act as leader (rebellion is complicated but for the sake of the post I'm adding it because it wasn't clean cut self defense. there were choices, killing them was a conscious choice), smacking and manslaughtering a kid, antagonizing her clanmates, not stopping the fights between coralclaw and sandywing, not giving fishpaw a warrior name, killing dapplestar over a hunch that someone in treeclan killed cloverfall, hitting sandywing for insulting her ego.
I think she would appear a lot more evil if the POV was from Firespots, or even Whisperleaf, as she specifically targets the both of them. She appears to be not as bad because she stopped directly digging at Fishwhisker and seems to be mostly on her side now. She dislikes the same cats that we dislike (Sandywing, Emberpelt, Firespots) and has been trying to turn over a new leaf for the last several chapters. Granted that's pretty much only because her son is going to have to clean up anything that she doesn't clean up if Firespots does succeed in his plans to kill her. I'm very slowly making a prequel comic that explores some perspectives from this generation, doing to comics at once is hard tho lol. So it'll be seen eventually

best of, pt II
i made a best of like maybe 60 fics ago so i figured it’s time for a fresh one to add to my pinned
🩸contrapasso (da4) —catholic guilt/uneven punishment/romantic tension— i have recently realized i really like writing structured fic and i think this is one of my best. something i really like in writing is how sections/chapters/scenes and how they’re divided and formatted can add a lot to the story, and i think it works well here
🌊 possibility (ace attorney) —parenthood/post-break up/communication— i am a parent and i like using fic to sometimes explore this weird thing you feel as a parent that’s a mixture of fear and guilt, and how it contrasts with love. this fic is my most recent attempt to parse these feelings
🫗novel (hades) —AU/falling in love/family— a multi chaptered, structured story that’s more lighthearted than i usually write, maybe that’s why it was so easy to write. started as a straight romance but ended up about love, and family, and how sometimes you can hurt the people you love by doing what you think is best

Polands Personality.
No one cares but like in the episode where poland meets lithuania and says "show me your cock and balls", it could've been a conversation starter as he is canonically shy when it comes to strangers shown in the manga (and anime)
Tumblr media
However, in history there was a "union" treaty between Lithuania and Poland (it was called the Krewo Union, I think, and if anyone cares – it was before the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and existed since the 1300s) so Poland mightve known about lithuania and him coming over but in the episode, I think he was whining or crying about it but I need to recheck that, but by that I meant that Poland may have already known Lithuania slightly from the union which is why he may have started a conversation in that way but accidentally made it awkward.
When I was talking to someone about this they said;
"And it makes sense that he'd say something like that as I suppose it was a manly thing to say in Poland's mind, probably very casual too, so bro was really just trying to break the ice in a way he knew 😭
And in the episode Poland was mainly just nervous over meeting Tolys, but since their bosses probably talked to each other previously I'm pretty sure Poland did have an idea of who Tolys was, but just hasn't interacted directly that way"
~
in the scene he was complaining about (I think who the female character in the scene was meant to represent) Jadwiga getting married to Jogaila (the Lithuanias king guy), so he probably didn't know who Lithuania was and stuff because prior to the scene, what probably happened, was Poland just got informed of it and he couldn't imagine Jadwiga getting married to someone he didn't even know, so probably it was he didn't know who he was. He also doesn't seem to have too much human conversation because he does, from my knowledge (and most people portray him as saying), say "like" a lot which can be from him being shy or that he doesn't know how to say something which can signify he doesn't talk to people that much from not having much base on how to speak to people, it can also be the reason for why he's shy. Him starting a conversation with "Show me your cock and balls" instead of something normal like "Hello, what's your name?" can be him trying to seem manly and fit in with "outsiders", not communicating with many people can also make you shy over time.
He also seems to warm up near people he trusts and is close to, he seems to sexualize himself or his friends without knowing it sometimes? I dont know about that but, I have art (I'm not sure if it's official or not) where its him and hungary in quite a 'sexual' position, though it probably wasn't intended?
Tumblr media
I don't know how to explain it but me and the person figured he might have autism (me and them are both autistic to clarify were not making it out of our asses)

jumping in on the OC questions, we know he's sick in the head, but what is Rodolf like to the other monks? does he put up with anselm......does he know what gregor is up to.......
Tumblr media
Well his whole life since he can remember has been devoted to the church, scripture, monastic practice. He was basically prepped to be a religious leader of sorts since infancy, so when it comes to anything like that - piety, spiritual guidance, etc - he's the perfect figure to turn to. He commands a lot of respect and reverence from his abbey. Anselm looks up to him lovingly, Rodolf feels the same impassive fatherly duty towards him as he feels towards all the brothers under his care. Gregor DESPISES him and Rodolf is too detatched to take it personally and just kind of views him as a lost impious soul in need of guidance.
But also because the church is the ONLY thing he's ever known his interpersonal skills are..... Lacking... He can't really understand personal feelings or problems outside of the lens of scriptural philosophies. If something horrifying happened to you then it was because God willed it, if you're unsure or lost then you just aren't devout enough, that kind of thing. He's not remotely cruel or hostile, but can come across really cold and sterile just because his nature has no warmth to it whatsoever. He kind of operates under the values of fear and reverence, because that's how he learned to view 'love' growing up. When Rodolf says he loves god, he means it, but what he is actually feeling is a mixture of fear and reverence. When he acknowledge's other's love of him, he means he is aware that they fear and revere him.
All this being said, he's still human (as much as he doesn't believe it). Rodolf is a socially composed person and polite and rational enough around others but he's REALLY unpersonable and awkward and sucks at entertaining guests at the abbey... Like a guest could make a joke to him and I doubt he'd react and you wouldn't be able to tell if it's because he doesn't get it (sheltered) or doesn't think it's funny (stoic). He's kind of reclusive just because interacting with people outside of ecclesiastical duties is kind of exhausting for him lollll

Hey! I absolutely love your posts about MGR! I'm a huge fan of Mistral, and your analysis and portrayal of her are truly fantastic. I have a few thoughts and questions I'd love to discuss with you!
Mistral is a femme fatale, but she seems unaware of how she uses her appearance. You can see this from the way multiple male characters react to her. She is both a sadist and a masochist—you can tell she enjoys the pain from her neural link, and of course, there’s her iconic line: “Would you like to slice off some more” (I love this line). All of this leads me to believe that Mistral is someone who completely disregards herself. She treats her body as a tool, she takes pleasure in pain, and even though she knows Armstrong sees her as just a stranger, she still chooses to die for his ideals—or maybe, she seeks death itself. This is the core of how I understand her character, and why I love her so much.
About her huge… well, I think they’re real. And of course, the skin is cybernetic—you can actually tell from the cross-section view of this part using the free camera mod.
Sorry for my English! I wrote this with the help of a translator, so I apologize if anything is unclear. Please feel free to ask. 😊
I'm honestly not sure whether what Mistral disregards is herself or her humanity. Think of it, she seems quite selfish in her behavior with her cruel treatment of tripods for nothing but amusement and the way she kills Khamsin just because she felt like it. And even the provocative appearance is really for nobody but herself. I bet you she starts her mornings by admiring her own reflection, I know I would
And as for her humanity, she definitely disregards that. Unlike Monsoon or Sundowner it seems that she didn't suffer any injuries that would require cybernetic replacements, so she threw away a perfectly healthy human body to... Hm. Now it's just pure speculation on my part, but I think there may be two reasons.
First, that experimental custom cyborg body has to cost a fortune, so agreeing to being augmented that way makes her indentured to Desperado/World Marshal. Mistral seemed discontent with not having any place to belong, and by doing this she pretty much nailed herself to the company and the cause Armstrong gave her. Can't be drifting much further with a debt like that.
Second, I know "L'Etranger" is the book one should be looking through to understand what's implied about Mistral and her worldview, but she also makes me think of "No longer human" by Osamu Dazai. Now, Mistral is no Yozo Oba, she isn't afraid of humans, but she seems to be fundamentally unable to connect with people similarly to him, leading to a very lonely existence. Yozo views humans as monsters, meanwhile Mistral refers to her kills as "prey". If her perspective of human interaction is anything like what's depicted in that book, then it would make sense why she'd so readily shed her humanity and make the jump to full body cyborg. CODECs in MGR indicate that cyborgs are discriminated against, often socially isolated and in general the public finds them to be uncanny and creepy. Normally all these are massive drawbacks, but to Mistral it's something that she desires. Once she looks like an artificial inhuman abomination, she is forever freed from needing to try and fit into normal society. You take one look at her 2 meter tall arachnophobia inducing ass and you know not to expect anything normal from her, and that's exactly what Mistral would want.
And I really do think that in-universe people would view her as rather horrifying. Alluring, but horrifying, one does not exclude the other. We as the audience are spared from the creepy effect by the art style. Her... Unconventional body plan alone plants her firmly in the uncanny valley territory, and I believe her face may be artificial as well. The concept shows that her neck is black and the fact that she can still talk after being reduced to frozen sashimi implies a lot of cybernetic enhancements in the head too.
If Raiden complained about not fitting into society while wearing his as close to human as possible civilian chassis we see at the end of MGS4, then just imagine the public's reaction to Mistral. Or any of the Winds of Destruction to be honest. Those three are a freakshow with how grotesque their bodies are.
And about Mistral's relationship with "the cause" and Armstrong himself. I think it's not purely self-sacrificial as her parting words may make it seem. Her end goal is to die for a cause, not reach the goals of that cause imo. At it's core, it's a selfish desire that has little to do with Armstrong's dream. Why would a French-Algerian mercenary whose existence has been defined by not believing in anything give a shit about making America great again? She doesn't. If she actually gave a fuck, she'd grit her teeth and endure Khamsin's spectacular personality because he's a useful asset, but instead she killed him, a whole bunch of contractors and ruined god knows how many expensive UGs by letting Bladewolf try to escape. Directly jeopardized the mission, in short.
I think she does love Armstrong though, but not in a conventional sense. He gave her a reason to fight, a place to belong, ideals to die for - something she desired very strongly. Mistral may or may not have purposefully idolized him so that when she finally dies for him, it'll give her the fulfillment she dreamed of. So, loves him in a God Emperor kind of way, rather than as a genuine love interest.
And if it seems that it's weird that she'd fight so passionately for something that she doesn't believe in, you gotta remember that she's an absurdist, like in the book her spear is named after. Absurdism dictates that it's impossible for a human to make sense of the world, but it doesn't mean they can't choose a purpose for themselves just because they want to.
Yeah, Armstrong's cause is not something she truly believes in, but it's absurd to believe in anything, really. But she wants a purpose, so she chooses to go along with it for the hell of it. After all, it gives Mistral all the fights she could ever want, a relatable company of other unhinged cyborgs and an opportunity to gleefully be the worst version of herself while she races full speed towards a bombastic demise. What's not to love?
And I'll finish off this ramble with some
( • )( • )
Because yes. Tbh, both the version where they're fake and where they're natural work to display her vanity and desire to loudly show off her identity. Like "yeah, I'm not even trying to fit in at this point, look at me. Bras are for weaklings."
Fully artificial is both expensive and unnecessary, keeping them natural is... Just as unnecessary and probably more difficult to pull off than simply cutting off her head and plopping it into a cybernetic body like with Raiden. Yes I think the tiddies are an important character trait and not just fanservice. I also overanalyze this game as a hobby, so take my shit with a grain of salt.
And don't worry, your English is perfectly adequate! This is a fun ask
