Just Complaining a bit

There must be a way to make the stories in my head write themselves…

Like, really, I try to write them, but as soon as I open the document or pick up the pen, the wonderful image I had in mind, the plot twist that no one expected, the complex but well-studied character, who had appeared in the my head deciding to disappear forever leaving a miserable residue of a truly pitiful phrase.

It's not right.

The worst part is that the above scenarios pop into my head when I can't write them down, and then I have to run around like a swarm of bees are chasing me, praying that I remember something about the brilliant idea that came to me during the course of philology, so I don't know. don't fall asleep.

Yeah, I mean I can see several scenarios of how that whole thing could play out and they aren’t all bad. However, I do have to repeat what has been said by others and say that this whole thing feels very very much like the whole Aneesa situation. It’s just so so fucking stupid to have Ben date yet another girl while he is still HOPELESSLY IN LOVE with Devi. It’s just tiring and I wish they could think of some other conflict for them to have!

I know Mindy hates boring couples but I am going to be so so mad if we don’t get to see Ben and Devi be a proper couple for at least 2 episodes. We deserve to actually see them together and happy. It’s so unfair that we have to suffer through them dating other people the whole damn series and only get to see them get together at the end.

not to be controversial bc I know this is like…not in line with shifting opinions on fanfic comment culture but if there’s a glaring typo in my work I will NOT be offended by pointing it out. if ao3 fucks up the formatting…I will also not be offended by having this pointed out…

‘looking forward to the next update’ and ‘I hope you update soon!’ are different vibes than a demand, and should be read in good faith because a reader is finding their way to tell you how much they love it. I will not be mad at this.

‘I don’t usually like this ship but this fic made me feel something’ is also incredibly high praise. I’m not going to get mad at this.

even ‘I love this fic but I’m curious about why you made [x] choice’ is just another way a reader is engaging in and putting thought into your work.

I just feel like a lot of authors take any comment that’s not perfectly articulated glowing praise in the exact manner they’re hoping to receive it in bad faith.

fic engagement has been dropping across the board over the last several years, and yes it’s frustrating but it isn’t as though I can’t see how it happens. comment anxiety can be a real thing. the last thing anyone wants to do is offend an author they love, and that means sometimes people default to silence.

idk where I’m going with this I guess aside from saying unless a comment is outright attacking me I’m never going to get mad at it, and I think a lot of authors should feel the same way. ESPECIALLY TYPOS PLZ GOD POINT OUT MY TYPOS.

i love cishets and their somewhat ugly pride merch that lets us know they're at least fairly safe to be around i'm serious. like genuinely being like 13 and seeing random adults at the store in black "love is love" shirts where every letter is a different pride flag and the whole thing clashes horribly was the most comforting thing.

ok ive realised my main issue when it comes to talking about work is that sometimes i say "i dont want a job, i want to make art" and inevitably people will respond with "you can make art your job!" and like. theyre not wrong! that is my goal currently. but its not the same thing, you know? art as a job isn't just about making art, it's about networking and finding jobs and building a portfolio and promoting yourself and staying on top of trends and communicating with clients and market appeal and scheduling. and sometimes u just sit there and go man. i dont wanna do all that. i just wanna make art.
