Something a little niche today, the Touro heavy Mech and Buckmaster light Mech from Brigador!
These neat little killing machines actually come packaged with a few weapon options, allowing you to mix and match a bit, which is very true to the original game's spirit.
Especially fell in love with the Touro even more as I was putting it together, it's a very cute little lump of pewter that is quite satisfying to hold.
If you've never heard of Brigador before and are curious, more info about that and these little guys under the cut!
For the accurate Brigador experience, it's best to keep reading while listening to this track on loop:
youtube
Now, although those are miniatures up there, Brigador is a video game rather than one of the table top variety. While that may be a distasteful prospect to some, I can assure you it is still quite fun, as evidenced by this screenshot:
Tumblr media
There are like fifty levels and I've beaten (nearly) all of them with every loadout, evidence of me doing as such with the really hard ones have been conveniently omitted in this screenshot however.
The game uses these awesome old-school 3D prerendered sprites for everything, which really scratches my nostalgic itch for that old Diablo/Starcraft look (or any 90s RTS for that matter). Here's how the Touro and Buckmaster look in game!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They're somehow even cuter...
The excellent art direction coupled with some really solid writing made Brigador a staple game for me. Whenever I have a couple minutes to kill and I'm at my computer, I'll usually just boot up Brigador and try to clear some challenge I've been working on. It's a very relaxing habit, despite the tone of the game which is actually quite grim! (Hopefully this doesn't reflect on me badly...)
Anyway, enough about videogames, we're here to to discuss miniatures!
Now while I am still very pleased that the developers of Brigador decided to release their own pewter miniatures based on designs from the game, I must warn you, my dear reader, that these sculpts may have some pretty gnarly flash and mold line issues. I can't say anything for sure, because all the pieces on my Buckmaster were free of residue and too much flash, but both of the Touros I picked up still had enough mold release where they needed a wash, and their chassis pieces had pretty big chunks of flash. I had picked up two to convert one into a Corvid mech (I can't decide between a Sweetheart or a Fatshoe) anyway though so it isn't that big a deal. The Touros were the first models they released, so I'm sure they've worked out the kinks at this point.
All that being said, I still had a good time putting these guys together and I'm very excited to paint them up in their proper NEP livery. I think I'll put them on Battletech hex bases since theyre about the right size and could work as stand-ins for some underdog Inner Sphere mecha, perhaps.
Funnily enough, these miniatures are also technically 1:144 scale, which is exactly the same scale as a Gundam High Grade model kit! Here they are next to a 1:144 scale Pilot to give you a sense of how big they would be in real life:
Tumblr media
Something very satisfying about being able to do this with miniatures. I wish Battletech played this nice with regards to scale...
....aaand now compared to a Mobile Suit:
Tumblr media
Makes you realize how ridiculously huge Mobile Suits are, huh?
One shot from the Touro's Abbot could probably still blow that poor Leo up, though...
Thanks for reading this far! This one has been especially indulgent, but it's always fun to talk about something underrated in the hopes more people will check it out.
Going forward on here, I'm considering making more "short-form" posts (yes, it is possible) with more quick updates on what I'm working on. Most miniatures probably won't necessitate an entire screed to accompany them either, believe it or not. I'll still be writing up long ones like these though; I have a long, long list of opinions and diatribes and I am desperately trying to spare my loved ones from being subjected to them. Most importantly, though, it's fun to write about this stuff. :P

Hi! Fellow AuDHD person here. I'm new to your page, and I'm gonna do my best to stick around! I would love to know a bit more about you.
What's your favourite animal, and why?
Do you have a favourite colour?
What are your hobbies?
What are your current special interests and hyperfixations?
Also, I hope you have a wonderful day/night (depending on what time it is for you)
Hello! Nice to meet you! Welcome to my blog :) I hope you have a fun time here!
I go on a rant about how cool corvids are so this post is kind of long. Answers under the cut so I don’t take up everyone’s dashboards 😳😂
My favorite animals are corvids! Which is technically a family of animals, not one specific animal, but I figure it’s close enough, and also I can’t pick. I love all of them so much! Crows, ravens, magpies, jays, treepies, choughs, nutcrackers, and jackdaws my beloveds.
I love how smart, clever, and inventive they are, how much they love and care about their families and friends, and how they have so much personality! They hold grudges and can recognize people they’ve had problems with and get revenge, and tell their friends to get revenge, too. I like that some *can* speak human languages, but often choose not to. Iconic. And they live on every continent except Antarctica!
And I love how much folklore there is about them! Some indigenous peoples believed a raven created the earth, and some Celtic peoples believed they were messengers of the gods.
I also like how they look. There’s so much variety among the corvidae family! On a related note, treepies are underrated and more people need to love them. Everyone in their right minds love crows, ravens, and jays, but I feel like most people don’t really know what treepies are. Like, look at this! It’s a rufous treepie! It’s baby and I love it.
Tumblr media
My favorite color is periwinkle! Well, this very specific shade of periwinkle:
Tumblr media
I also love seafoam green and *almost* all shades of yellow.
I have 8 hobbies! I like to write fan fiction, read, paint, do digital art, make memes, cook, play video games, and sew. I don’t post much art because 99% of it’s art of my OCs.
Speaking of, my main special interest is one of the universe my OCs live in. I don’t talk much about my OCs because I’m planning on publishing their books, and I don’t want my tumblr-self to be attached to my work-self. People at work think I’m cool and I don’t want them to find out otherwise /j
Every time I see anything interesting, I think, “which of my characters would do that? Yeah, definitely XYZ.” I have 7 different fantasy worlds that I spend most of my time in, not including any tLoZ universes.
Bringing us to my other, slightly less intense special interest! The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild! When I’m not thinking of my OCs and their universes, I’m usually thinking of BotW and related games, such as Age of Calamity.
Thank you for all the questions! I hope you have a good day/night, too! 💕😁

"Living Ghosts" #17: "Splitting Rock"
From my reparenting series “Living Ghosts.” In which a trans lesbian combat doll named River, reunited with and reparenting her younger self now named Emi, visits Shiogama Shrine for a picnic under the cherry blossoms, and reflects on how far she and her daughter by choice have come.
(If you've enjoyed these stories, please consider supporting my work by subbing at komaneko.gay)
Tumblr media
A story:
East of the City of Immortals, in the city to which it gave its name, its head in forest, its feet in Matsushima Bay, Shiogama Shrine sat amidst a sea of pink-white double-cherry trees in bloom. The flowers, of which shrine and city alike were very proud, had become the shrine's crest, and thus the basis of the crest that River and Emi wore on the crested overcoats that surmounted their kimono.
Twofold blossoms, with a central fan of three blades. Sharpness and softness in balance, with flowers that bloomed late but twice as full.
High above the shrine hall's eaves, corvids wheeled in a dark wave.
River smiled wistfully. When she'd first come here, all those years ago, she'd been a little bit intimidated by them, but now, it felt comforting, every time she heard the cawing and caught the flap of dark wings marked on her heads-up projection. They really were ever-present.
Mother and daughter made their offering of coin together, before the ancient shrine hall. It was not their home shrine, in the riverbend back in the city, but they cherished it all the same for its beauty and for the weight of shared history it carried, as one of the region's oldest and most storied places of worship.
They said silent prayers. The wind in the blooming trees came as if in reply.
Afterward, Emi turned to her mother, then looked out around the shrine grounds, eyes wide in awe.
"It's…so quiet." Her voice was hushed. "It's like, inside my head…"
"…the anxiety doesn't have any room," the older woman murmured, nodding slowly in recognition. "It's like my headspace is calm but flowing, like a…"
"…like a mirror-smooth river reflecting the sky," the girl echoed. "Yeah."
River smiled knowingly, her voice just as hushed. "I call it capital-S Stillness, but it comes in many different names and forms. This is just one of them." Then she gestured over her shoulder. "Walk with me a bit?"
So they walked for awhile, under the trees drifting in the breeze that rose from the sea. They ambled from the main shrine to the adjoining Shiwahiko Shrine and back again before finding a seat in the shadow of one of the cherry trees.
"Underrated," Emi murmured, gesturing broadly. "Everybody's so busy going to the same dozen spots they miss out on shit like this. This really is underrated."
"Severely underrated, but then so much about this corner of the country is." River smoothly shrugged off her messenger bag and retrieved a pair of neatly rubber-banded cypress magewappa bento, handing one to her daughter. "Here you go, honey. Gyutan onigiri, all yours."
"Mm, thanks."
Hanami-- flower-viewing-- was a centuries old custom, as were shrine visits. Sometimes they got very loud and lively, and that had its place and its pluses. But it was this sort of quieter observance with the people who mattered most, that mother and daughter, one soul at two times, loved the most.
"Hey, Emi?"
"Yeah?"
"Gonna be two years soon, since we first bumped into each other." She took another bite of her own meal, a foil-wrapped onigirazu. "And look at how far you've come."
The girl blushed, her gaze momentarily falling. "Thanks. Feels like longer, sometimes. I'm just happy we get to be together, now."
"You're like these Shiogama cherries." Her mother gestured with outstretched synthetic fingertip at one of the cherry tree's broad branches. "It took awhile, but you've split rocks and weathered the cold to finally bloom."
Emi thought it over for a moment. A flash of mischief passed over her expression. "Hey, we've got both sides of Shiogama covered, Mom. I've got the cherry trees and you've got the salt."
River sputtered in her surprise, and laughed. "Ooh, touché, kid, touché. I am pretty salty."
"You taught me," the girl replied, as she finished her last onigiri. "Salt is important. It clears things away and sets things right."
Salt was a purifier in shrine ritual, but here specifically, it was more than that. The story went that once, ages ago, the local gods had taught the humans how to reclaim salt from the ocean in salt kettles-- shiogama, in Japanese. Those kettles were believed to still be the divine vessels of Shiogama Shrine, hidden away in the inner sanctum, in the shrine to which they gave their name, which in turn gave its name to the city.
"Am I really doing that good, honey?" asked the unlikely mother to her daughter by choice.
"You've come a long way too," said the girl. "And you're doing just fine."
The sword looked on in pride at her daughter.
"Thanks."

hi hiiiii !!
may i havw a pokemon team please awawa
ok so like, you very obviously get a flying type team cause of the birdy vibes.
1. Corviknight
Tumblr media
Magpies being corvids, it makes sense to use a Pokémon based on various corvids on your team.
2. Swanna
Tumblr media
Swanna is the most birdlike fully evolved aquatic bird and you give me waterfowl vibes as well as the previously mentioned corvidae reference.
It fits your style, I think.
3. Mantine
Tumblr media
I didn't wanna give you all birds, and your pfp here is a beautiful aquatic creature, so here's a beautiful manta ray that can fly for your troubles. That is two water/flying types but it fits really well so here you go.
4. Driblim
Tumblr media
Out of all the remaining non-bird flying types, this is the most mysterious and elegant one, at least in my opinion. You seem to be a fan of the mysterious and elegant, so here, take a mysterious and elegant Pokémon.
It's also pretty underrated, which is another reason I am giving it to you.
5. Togekiss
Tumblr media
There's definitely a level of bias here given this is my favorite Pokémon, but it matches Drifblim's vibes while also being kind and loving, something you seem to be (you seem very nice)
Oh, and it is a bird - togekiss is based on doves! It lacks a beak because it's also based on eggs, meaning it has to be round and smooth.
6. Altaria
Tumblr media
I just think Altaria fits you. I mean, if you disagree that's ok but it really feels right to me.
That's it! Thanks for playing.

Best bird?
I can't choose a single favorite bird, are you kidding me?
I can, however, give some contenders
Emus are fucking adorable. Like holy shit have you ever met a hand-raised emu they fucking CUDDLE you. if you've never seen an emu frolick you're missing the fuck out
Kea parrots are agents of chaos and incredibly intelligent and thank you for reminding me of how much i love them because that's yet another thing to add to the list of things that go with my gender
Kakapos the fat fucking moss potato birds /pos, they're nocturnal, and im pretty sure that the duolingo owl is actually a kakapo but that's just my crackpot headcanon, absolutely beautiful
all corvids my beloveds, smart fuckers who will make their existence your problem but will also befriend you if you're nice to them
great-tailed grackles which i thought were in the corvid family for the longest time but i still love them even if they're not, chaotic little hoppies, make the best CACK and eeee-EEEEEEEE sounds like a squeaky gate
african grey parrots. fucking smartasses. alex the african grey my beloved may he rest in peace. gang-gang cockatoos are so fucking underrated and so are pigeons. umbrella cockatoos, dramatic motherfuckers. cockatiels smell like pancake mix it's incredible.
so many birds i have never met or heard of or learned about. so much diversity in the bird world. i cannot wait to learn more about birds as i get older. i, in fact, cannot get over birds.
also barn owls' aesthetic goes hard as fuck. sick-ass vibes. fucking slaps.

For the ask game: tdp and lotr ;)
Ohoho I see how it is, fam! Gosh, okay uhhhhhhhh
TDP
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most) - Runaan, my angsty long-haired neurodiverse stabby honorable hot elf son who is hopelessly in love with his husband and cannot say feelings to save his life
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped) - Bait, tubby lump o' grump, a rainbow of colors and feelings
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave) - Opeli, Queen of Order and President/Founder of the We Hate Viren Club, what is their combined backstory like, gosh
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week) -Crow Master, my emo son, what is up with his corvid-shaped shadow, he tries so hard to do a Good Job!
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave) - Viren, High Mage of Katolis, Bi Disaster Man, Irredeemable(?) Asshole, Horny On Main For Elves Power, Stealer of Shirts, Eater of Orange Peels, Swiper of Crowns, Locker-upper of Children, Devil-Dealing Dumbass, Reluctant Blood Ritual Performer, Just Generally Thirsty, Researcher and Schemer Extraordinaire Yet Still So Foolable, Smooth-kneed for Saleer, First of His Name
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason) - ahaha no this would also be Viren if I wanted to break someone, but usually I torment Runaan because he can take it
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell) - you might think I will say Aaravos, but it's actually whoever is responsible for the Moonshadow elves having to deal with the angst of blood promises/binding ribbons and having assassins in the first place. Someone set this precedent, and it's still here, ruining human and elven lives/families alike. So if that's a dragon, like Luna Tenebris, fine. If it's Bloodmoon Huntress, fine. If it's still Aaravos, fine. May every step they take on the path to superhell land on a Lego.
LOTR
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most) - Elvenking Thranduil, yes I have a type, stoic white-haired queer badass leaders who protect their people in problematic ways while looking hot, what about it
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped) - Kili, he's literally a chibi dwarf, come on
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave) - Celebrimbor, the elven smith who got fooled into making the Rings of Power. He's kinda a Feanor 2.0, except way better than the OG redheaded disaster elf because his heart was in a much better place, and realistically who wouldn't fall prey to the charms of Sauron? Anyway, he makes pretty magic artifacts, he's an artificer and that's freaking awesome
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week) - gotta be the Mouth of Sauron, he's freaky and gross but somehow weirdly compelling
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave) - Denethor, Steward of Gondor, for the sheer amount of family and cultural angst he can carry all at once, he's an idiotic drama king steward and he drives so much of the plot with his dumb slanted perspective... He's basically a Viren
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason) - Gimli son of Gloin, because he howls so horribly and Generally Emotes With Overkill, but also so his gentle elven prince, Legolas Greenleaf, can show up to help calm him down and set things right again
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell) - Smaug! He's a sad little king of a sad little hill, petty and cruel, a tiny little bitch and a coward, pathetic but not even in an interesting meow meow way like Denethor. Just fall, burn, and perish already, you paper airplane lightweight. Ugh.
DUDE this was fun, tysm!!

blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most) I have thought so much about this but I would be lying if I didn't say Miles Edgeworth. He's so good. He's excellent. He's very traumatized.
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped) Sebastian Debeste. He is doing!!!!!!!! His deBeste!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave) Listen okay should Athena be a character who exists? No. Is Dual Destinies bad? Yes. Do I still love her? Absolutely.
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week) IN THIS HOUSE WE LOVE AND RESPECT MADAME TUSSPELLS
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave) Phoenix Wright but in AA4/AJ era. Absolutely awful man. I love him.
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason) Into the horse plinko with you, Kazuma.
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell) I mean if you're not using this section to say Kristoph Gavin IDK who you would send instead.
BIRDS
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most) Oh, all corvids, but ESEPCIALLY crows.
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped) Finches!!! They are so round!!!!!!!!!!! So good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave) American Robin... simple and beautiful... absolutely classic.
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week) Kestrels because they are just. They are just good okay and I wish more people knew about them. Also a good name!!!
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave) Listen. Okay. I KNOW they have corkscrew penises. But ducks are good. Okay?
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason) I Will Fight The Starlings That Have Invaded The Courtyard. YOU DON'T LIVE HERE!!!!!
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell) I love geese so much but let's be honest with ourselves. It's the Canadian goose.

The Crow (1994)
Alright Cult of Cult. Do I really need to introduce this one? Let's get all 90s and gothy and maybe brace ourselves for a bit of cringe, but like in a fun way. It's the Holy Grail of Hot Topic, 1994's the Crow Starring Brandon Lee.
Sermon
Apparently before the auto industry totally crashed Detroit was already a total fucked to death pile of burning shit, or at least that's what the crow would have you believe. Sorry Bruce Campbell, and other people from Detroit, but mostly Bruce Campbell. According to the Crow the city of Detroit is the kind of place where gangs of warlock anarchist arsonists will bomb buildings, and murder and rape whoever they feel like and then walk around bragging about it the next day with absolutely zero consequences. Funny then that if Detroit was so bad they had to go to film this movie in Wilmington North Carolina which is definitely a fucked to death pile of burning shit. I can say that, I'm from there and I got the fuck out. My brother is going to kill me if he ever reads this. (It's okay, these are all jokes people). Did you know they also filmed the Super Mario Bros movie there ... also cuz they needed a really shitty looking distopia. Moving on ...
The ludicrous criminality of the Crow's Detroit is particularly on display on Halloween. In Detroit (apparently) Halloween is known as Devils Night and it's legitimately just a night of pure lawlessness and chaos and kids aren't even safe to get candy, except later when we do see trick or treaters. Eric Draven, hunky goth rocker who sort of looks like he could be Bruce Lee's Kid and his fiance are murdered by a gang of vicious criminals. One year hence, Eric is resurrected by a mystical crow (that is actually a Raven), to exact his revenge on the gang that murdered him.
He paints his face like sad Alice Cooper and refuses to listen to Joy Division, just covers. He murders Tin Tin (a knife guy) just for his long gothy duster, he murders Fun Boy and forcibly ejects heroine from her arms and tells her "Go be a good mom now" which actually works. (have I told you about our Lord and Savior Sting? He gave me the strength to get off drugs), he blows T Bird up dick first, and then comes for Skab? Scraap? Scooby? in a meeting of all of Detroits villains and just about kills them all.
He is supported by the most 90s little girl to have ever graced the screen, and I am here for it, and Officer Albrecht, who's played by Ernie Hudson but I like to call him Zeddemore: The Most Underrated Ghostbuster. The leader of the bad guys, who I cannot beleive wasn't played by Brad Dourif or Tom Waits, is pretty interested in the occult. He keeps his witchy girlfriend around and she makes him fun dishes like smoked eyeballs, and her main use is that she knows that the Crow is the Crows weakness. They set Tony Fucking Todd on the bird, and I guess you just have to hurt the bird and not kill it, and Eric loses his healing factor and other macabre undead powers.
The Crow, Jimmy the Raven, pecks out Dr. Girlfriends eyeballs, I honestly forget how Tony Todd gets offed, and Top Dollar gets Gargoyled (that is impaled on a gargoyle). Funnily enough that is more Gargoyle related impaling on screen then in the actual movie Gargoyle: Wings of Darkness where a Gargoyle is supposed to have impaled a guy.
The Benediction
Best Feature: Injustice League
In the Crow we have not only a set of super memorable villains but they are played by the bad guy all stars. John Polito as the most lowly of the bad guys as a kind of sleazy pawn shop owner who buys ill gotten gains. Tony Todd, who's size is really on display here, the freaking Candy Man is in this movie. T Bird is the head of Top Dollars goons and is played by David Patrick Kelly, you might know as the "Warriors Come Out and Play!!" bottle guy from the Warriors, or as Jimmy Horne from Twin Peaks, and of course Top Dollar himself is played by Michael Wincott. Wincott is not a particularly celebrated actor but has played villains effectively in Robin Hood, the Three Musketeers, and Dead Man.
Best Set Piece: Detroit Style Hot Dogs
The Set design of the Crow is perhaps one of it's most fantastic features. It's very moody and ethereal. It's just real enough to not take you out of the film, but fantastic enough to set mood and theme above realism. From Eric Draven's apartment, to the church where the final battle occurs they are all fantastic. I think that's why I really wanted to shine the spot light on a very minor set piece that would get nary a mention but just as effectively represents the qualities I was just talking about and that is the Maxi Doggs Hot Dog Stand, where a lot of the films exposition for audience surrogates takes place.
Worst Effect: Freeze Frame
At a few points in the movie the film makers made a strange decision to do these freeze frame transitions. I only noticed it twice in the movie where it was particularly stupid. I'm sure the film makers at the time thought it was a moody and atmospheric choice that highlighted the suffering that Eric Draven was going through, but it didn't age well. If you don't have the sensibilities of a goth girl from 1994 then it's very very hard not to laugh at just how self involved the movie is about it's super sadness.
Worst Feature: Tragic Accident
Solely based on the film itself, it is that very gothic and dated sensibility that hurts the Crow. The little sarcastic dance he does when he flees the police, quoting Edgar Allen Poe, and bowing to Albrecht. These affected behaviors that I'm sure seemed snarky and right on to the target audience only serve to make Eric Draven seem like an unbearable neck beard edgelord and not the troubled dark soul he's supposed to be. I'm sure at the time it seemed unique and gothy but that shit went out of style for good reason, people could see through it. It's a shame that the Crow himself was some of the cringiest parts of this movie now that I'm seeing it as an adult and not a 13 year old middle class boy with no real problems.
This however is not the low point of the movie. It's not news now and if you're reading some dudes review of The Crow on Tumblr then you probably already know the story. The worst thing about The Crow is that Brandon Lee was horrifically killed on set while filming this movie due to some negligible prop malfunctions. A series of unfortunate events that lead to the actor spending 6 hours in surgery fighting for his life before eventually passing. It was not a quick or painless death and it's really impossible to watch the movie without an appreciation for the fact that this kind of fun dark adventure was going to be a vehicle for Brandon Lee's career wound up taking his life. He was 28. I really wish I could have just bitched about the goofy goth stuff and moved on, but that's not the world we live in.
Best Effect: The Gargoyling
Maybe I should have called this best kill. But I'm not sure which it is. The slaying of Top Dollar at the Climax of the film was just super effective. The pointed wings impaling his chest and that horn coming out of his mouth, it was morbid and excellent and just fit the tone of the movie perfectly. I mean how many other movies can you say Cause of Death: Impaled on a Gargoyle.
Best Bird: The Raven
I tried very hard to look up the name of the bird that primarily performed in this movie and could not find anything. There was a Raven once upon a time called Jimmy the Raven, but that was in the 50s and I don't think birds live that long. There was a team of Ravens performing as the crow, they were chosen over crows for their larger size, and more imposing silhouettes. I just think it's so wonderful to see these often maligned birds get a chance to show off their talents. Corvids of all kinds are incredibly intelligent creatures. Im a sucker for animals, if you haven't already figured that out. I really liked seeing the ravens hit their marks, particularly the one whos job it was to drop the wedding ring into Sarah's hand at the end of the film. You can see that greedy little bastard do his trick and then look of camera at his trainer like "treat please!". It's very cute.
Best Actor: Top Dollar Performance
I'd love to take this opportunity to just put praise upon Brandon Lee, he truly gave everything for this role, but unfortunately with what was put to film we actually have very few character moments with Eric Draven. Stuff happens to him, and he does killings and fights. There's definitely some personality, but I felt like I walked away knowing almost nothing about who Eric Draven was. He was clearly a good dude but that and a few hobbies and a relationship and you don't really have a character yet. He's unfortunately not given a lot of acting to do, instead just relegated to stunts and action sequences. That were notably cool.
The bad guys in the Crow have a lot more character and among this who's who of character actors, Michael Wincott takes the cake. Hell he was standing next to Candyman himself, Tony Todd and still stealing the scenes.
Best Character: A Few Good Apples
Is the best character in The Crow really going to be the cop? The commissioner Gordon stand in? yeah, it is. Not to be political, but I don't like cops, but I guess in a world with magical birds and eyeball smoking I can suspend my disbelief and let Ernie Hudson be #1 cop dad. His character is really the heart of the film, since all Eric can do is brood and fight, we have to care about someone in this movie.
Best Sequence: Halloween Party
The best sequence of the movie is of course the scene where Eric Draven busts in on the Devil's Night party planning commission. I think Top Dollar brought Scrappy Doo there just so he could lure out the crow, knowing the baddest assholes in all of Detroit would be gathered it was likely that somebody was going to kill the beast, or if they couldn't at least Top Dollar could get a feel for his enemy. It's a bullet flying action sequence with a ton of weight. I can't put my finger on this all to common weightless third act problem that big budget super hero and action flicks have nowadays, but whatever that issue is, the Crow does not have that issue. From this point on the Climax feels earned and I am invested. For that reason, The Crow is honestly better in spite of its awkwardness, than many of the super hero movies out today.
Worst Sequence: My Guitar Gently Weeps
Speaking of brooding or fighting. The best sequence was fighting, the worst is brooding. I get that Eric was in a band or something, but didn't he have shit to do. It seemed like it was a cool idea for a shot, but for like a whole seen, watching somebody play an 80s guitar solo, that stood out so brazenly from the choices of music in the rest of the movie was extra corny. It felt like someone's( dad trying to relate to their kid. Oh you like Music. The Dresden Dolls eh? Oh man, then you're going to love Slash's Snake Pit!
Summary
The Crow is dated. It is iconic but I wonder how many of the people that hang that poster on the wall have watched that movie since they were kids. It's interesting how what i've liked and disliked about this film have changed so much sense I was a kid. It's a cheeseball fiesta. If you have matured at all beyond thinking that being sad is the same as being deep then you're going to like it a little less than you did when you were younger, but it is still solid. There's not much to hate on. I'd watch it over and over again. I was really afraid it would not hold up at all, but returning to The Crow was a completely positive experience.

9, 18?
9. Tag 3 fic writers you think are underrated/unknown in the fandom/fanfiction community
This was a surprisingly tough question. But also a good reminder for me to check fandom tags more often, and not just surf from one author’s Bookmark list to another!
I’ll nominate @kalajorn and Hagar. Sorry I couldn’t think of a third!!!! I will have to expand my reading habits posthaste!
18. Do you have a WIP that you keep telling yourself you’ll eventually get back to, but deep down you know that’s probably a lie?
My White Collar au, that I began writing in… 2011, I think. There’s a lot of concepts that I really like about it, particularly with drawing parallels between Neal’s canon behavior and corvid behavior, and working in folktale archetypes, but in 2014 I got a tumblr and learned about cultural appropriation, and I don’t feel that I should have Coyote in the story anymore, and maybe the way I’ve written Raven is alright since I am drawing mostly from real-life raven behavior to inform his character and following more European folklore with ravens as psychopomps, but maybe that’s worse. So if I were to get back to this story it would need a significant overhaul, and if the right thing for me to do is to not include Raven at all then the story falls apart completely, and this impasse is why it will remain a WIP forever, despite being one of my favorite things I’ve written

What I Want To See More On Tumblr
Tumblr is a sharing/social networking blog site that has a variety of content.  However, there is content that also needs more recognition, and I see little to none of that content; probably because it is underrated and not very many users talk about or mention it.  Of course, there will be plenty of opportunities to add more content, and I still have more information that must be voiced, but it would be nice if others take action and start expanding the site with extra and unlimited content (whether it be pictures, videos, audio, photographs, artwork, fan media, quotes, chats, weblinks, entertainment and media reviews, recaps of different works, memes, tutorials, self-help, GIFs, messages, etc.) as well.

(Please note that I may also do some of these, myself, but I encourage others to do so, as well; there are plenty of users who are more skilled and knowledgeable than I am.)
When it comes to content, I leave overrated stuff alone, and yearn to increase underrated stuff, even content that may be overrated in many areas, but underrated in others.  I also encourage differing opinions of such content; people can like a certain content that others hate, and vice versa; I have no problem with that; just as long as no one harasses, bullies, trolls, denigrates, or threatens others who do not think the same way they do.
I also encourage alternative sites for content, as well as many more websites solely for entertainment purposes.
For everyone else in Tumblr, as well as many others in other websites, be creative, bring up new ideas and opinions, teach people something interesting, make what you like, encourage other people to do the same, and be cordial and respectful to one another.  I wish you the best of luck.

Jonathan Crane Animal Preferences (and why he loves more than just crows)
Jonathan actually likes animals, and although he has been seen experimenting on them in the comics, I like to think that’s he’s very careful when working with them, using only the minimal amount of chemicals.
He prefers to work with various corvids (ravens, crows, magpies) because not only are them exceptionally smart, but they complement his gimmick.
In the comics he’s had two different corvid companions. The first, and most underrated of the two is Nightmare the raven. He debuted in the late 70′s in the comic Joker #8, unfortunately this is his only appearance outside of the Super Friends Cartoon were he cameos as a crow instead of a raven.  Later on in the 90s we were introduced to a crow named Craw. (sometimes spelled as Kraw by the fandom) Craw gender is unknown, but I like to think he’s a boy. (Nightmare is a girl in my verse) He appears in three separate comics whose stories tie together. These comics are Batman Annual #19 and Batman #523-#524. The comics never specify what species of corvid he is, but the use of mechanical crows in these issues leads me to believe that Craw is also a crow. (though you could easily headcanon him as any bird from the corvid family)
When writing Jonathan, I use information from all the different verses and comics. For example, in Scarecrow: Year One he was attacked by trained crows, so I like to imagine this version of Crane as slightly adverse and perhaps maybe even afraid of the birds.(Of course, he overcomes that fear when he tames his first crow.) Even so, he has a preference for ravens, as they are bigger and more threatening than your average crow. Plus they make great messengers and can spread toxin through the air via flapping their wings.
And let’s not forget horses! Jonathan has been seen riding the beautiful beasts in the comics, just like how he escapes the Asylum in horseback in The Long Halloween and he’s even rode a few horse drawn carriages. He absolutely loves horses and has even created an equine gas mask to protect them from his fear toxin. In one verse of mine, Jonathan owns a chestnut colored horse named Autumn, and in other he has a black stallion named terror--because what is Scarecrow without a black horse? Aesthetics baby~
He also loves cats, they’re both independent and indifferent and Jonathan just adores that attitude. He used to feed stray cats on the Keeny Farm as a child, and he’s kept up that habit into adulthood. Even Selina’s pets would visit him, because they know he feeds well. He buys cat food cans in bulk and has been known to feed any strays that comes by. Jonathan would never admit it, but he is a cat person. (Dogs just don’t interest him.) He’s even trained his corvids not to attack the cats who come onto his land, surprisingly the two creatures get along well, sometimes they can even be seen playing with each other.
In one canon of mine, Selina Kyle visits Jonathan unannounced on a rainy night with a bedraggled kitten in her arms. She’s unable to take care of it at the moment and believes Crane to be a good fit. He agrees to her request, not yet realizing that he’s just been gifted a companion for life. The kitten, an oriental shorthair grows up to be the spitting image of Jonathan, including a sharp jawline and long spindly legs. He was affectionately named Edgar after the famous poet of the same name. Edgar, alongside the crows and ravens, has helped to reduce Jonathan’s stress and create a welcoming environment whenever he comes home after a rough day of fighting the Bat.
Lastly, we can not forget snakes and bugs and arachnids. He’s utilized most of these within canon, and he holds a special place in his dark heart for creepy crawlies. For example, in Arkhamverse he uses cockroaches to develop a new strain of fear toxin, and in Batman: The Animated Series he terrorizes some young girls with his pet snakes. (okay, they were probably fake, but I like the idea of Jonathan owning a pet snake)  Anyway, I could just see Jonathan with tanks full of creepy creatures. He would love tarantulas and spiders and he’s probably used snake venom in his fear toxin. There’s a lot of untapped potential here, and Jonathan loves anything the rest of the world sees as scary.
In conclusion, Jonathan loves animals, especially the nightmarish kind.

Crows and Ravens are good and like, the most iconic corvids and I think they deserve all the love they get, however, black billed magpies are criminally underrated. Like

what's your favorite drink? and planet?
Favorite drink: Ginger ale. Either Vernors (a very soft and sweet ginger ale; tragically underrated and hard to find on the west coast), or very sharp brands on the other end of the spectrum. Things in between like canada dry are not very good in my opinion though.
Favorite planet: I guess Earth? Idk, planets as a category aren’t something I really think about all that much but there’s some awesome stuff here, and like we have all these plants and animals? I love them. Even if we as a species eventually manage to discover literally everything on our home planet, and collect all that knowledge so there’s “nothing left to discover”, there’s just so much here that an individual person if they seek it out will never stop finding things to learn about this planet and the things that live here in their lifetime. And all the things to learn are so great! Like do you know about pangolins? They’re precious! And Spanish Moss, it’s actually not a moss or anything like that; it’s a bromeliad meaning it’s related to pineapples! So it looks like dull moss but if you look closely you can see little flowers! That’s so cool! Hoatzins are a bird that grows claws on their wings like fucking dragons when they’re babies and they use them to climb trees! And they’re such gorgeous birds! And did you know that various species of corvids have demonstrated having legit societies where they play organized games, have local cultures, differing societal structures within the same species, hooligan subcultures, they mourn for their dead very very loudly, and have been known to form what appear to be actual friendships with humans who are nice to them? I think all that is so beautiful in its own way. And we as a species can be pretty fucked up but there’s still a lot of beauty in humans, and there’s so much to learn about each other individually and culturally. I can be pretty pessimistic about us, being a member of a corrupt western society, but I do love this planet a lot when I get thinking about it
