When Artem delivers the spiders, they pull out more tupperware containers then can logically fit in their backpack. After all the the containers are out they put some some of them away. There’s about 20 left out when they’re done deciding which they’re keeping.
“Take your pick Dr Crane”
The containers all have strange sigils drawn on them, Artem organized them before the doctor but by what metric is unclear.
Jonathan specifically picked out ones that were larger or moving around more. Artem could hear him mumbling about how wonderful all the creepy crawlies looked, but he certainly wouldn't admit it
Much appreciated, Artem. these beauties will do nicely

Jonathan Crane Animal Preferences (and why he loves more than just crows)
Jonathan actually likes animals, and although he has been seen experimenting on them in the comics, I like to think that’s he’s very careful when working with them, using only the minimal amount of chemicals.
He prefers to work with various corvids (ravens, crows, magpies) because not only are them exceptionally smart, but they complement his gimmick.
In the comics he’s had two different corvid companions. The first, and most underrated of the two is Nightmare the raven. He debuted in the late 70′s in the comic Joker #8, unfortunately this is his only appearance outside of the Super Friends Cartoon were he cameos as a crow instead of a raven.  Later on in the 90s we were introduced to a crow named Craw. (sometimes spelled as Kraw by the fandom) Craw gender is unknown, but I like to think he’s a boy. (Nightmare is a girl in my verse) He appears in three separate comics whose stories tie together. These comics are Batman Annual #19 and Batman #523-#524. The comics never specify what species of corvid he is, but the use of mechanical crows in these issues leads me to believe that Craw is also a crow. (though you could easily headcanon him as any bird from the corvid family)
When writing Jonathan, I use information from all the different verses and comics. For example, in Scarecrow: Year One he was attacked by trained crows, so I like to imagine this version of Crane as slightly adverse and perhaps maybe even afraid of the birds.(Of course, he overcomes that fear when he tames his first crow.) Even so, he has a preference for ravens, as they are bigger and more threatening than your average crow. Plus they make great messengers and can spread toxin through the air via flapping their wings.
And let’s not forget horses! Jonathan has been seen riding the beautiful beasts in the comics, just like how he escapes the Asylum in horseback in The Long Halloween and he’s even rode a few horse drawn carriages. He absolutely loves horses and has even created an equine gas mask to protect them from his fear toxin. In one verse of mine, Jonathan owns a chestnut colored horse named Autumn, and in other he has a black stallion named terror--because what is Scarecrow without a black horse? Aesthetics baby~
He also loves cats, they’re both independent and indifferent and Jonathan just adores that attitude. He used to feed stray cats on the Keeny Farm as a child, and he’s kept up that habit into adulthood. Even Selina’s pets would visit him, because they know he feeds well. He buys cat food cans in bulk and has been known to feed any strays that comes by. Jonathan would never admit it, but he is a cat person. (Dogs just don’t interest him.) He’s even trained his corvids not to attack the cats who come onto his land, surprisingly the two creatures get along well, sometimes they can even be seen playing with each other.
In one canon of mine, Selina Kyle visits Jonathan unannounced on a rainy night with a bedraggled kitten in her arms. She’s unable to take care of it at the moment and believes Crane to be a good fit. He agrees to her request, not yet realizing that he’s just been gifted a companion for life. The kitten, an oriental shorthair grows up to be the spitting image of Jonathan, including a sharp jawline and long spindly legs. He was affectionately named Edgar after the famous poet of the same name. Edgar, alongside the crows and ravens, has helped to reduce Jonathan’s stress and create a welcoming environment whenever he comes home after a rough day of fighting the Bat.
Lastly, we can not forget snakes and bugs and arachnids. He’s utilized most of these within canon, and he holds a special place in his dark heart for creepy crawlies. For example, in Arkhamverse he uses cockroaches to develop a new strain of fear toxin, and in Batman: The Animated Series he terrorizes some young girls with his pet snakes. (okay, they were probably fake, but I like the idea of Jonathan owning a pet snake)  Anyway, I could just see Jonathan with tanks full of creepy creatures. He would love tarantulas and spiders and he’s probably used snake venom in his fear toxin. There’s a lot of untapped potential here, and Jonathan loves anything the rest of the world sees as scary.
In conclusion, Jonathan loves animals, especially the nightmarish kind.

✨🔪🎃 Drury?
✨a ship i like with this character
CROWMOTH MY BEST FRIEND CROWMOTH. I have written a million posts about it but. They have so many narrative parallels imo the potential is just entirely untapped… Jonathan Crane and Drury Walker NEED to hold hands. NOW!! Also hehe bugs are creepy and crawly and Jonathan loooves creepy things. (:
Also the untapped potential of Jonathan as Kitten’s weird step-dad.
I also like BatMoth too, but that’s an entire different essay.
🎃something i think they're afraid of
Being seen as nothing but a joke and not being able to control how other people see him! It’s the core of his entire narrative imo and why he tries so desperately hard to be seen as frightening!
I’m sorry I can NOT think of a funny answer right now. Only his deep seated psychological fears.
🔪a ship i Don't like with this character
I’m so sorry. I do NOT like him with a certain fire themed villain he’s teamed up with sometimes. 💔

In my opinion, there is no wrong or right VA for Scarecrow, but what I'd like to ask is what did each VA for him get RIGHT in your eyes, and as a further ask, who'd voice the Mistress herself? ^^
Oooh this is a good question! Scarecrow is lucky in the fact that he hasn’t had a bad voice actor, even the old campy cartoons like The Super Friends had a good Scarecrow. My personal favorite VA is Dino Andrade. He voiced Scarecrow in Arkham Asylum and the tie in mobile game Arkham Underworld. I feel like his voice is perfect for Jonathan, his laugh is so eerie and his voice feels like creepy crawlies running down your spine. In my opinion, he is the perfect Crane.
I don’t have a VA for Mistress yet, but I feel like she should be voiced by someone who is Japanese, as she is Japanese herself. :)
