like the way most western people celebrate the holiday with kids is so detached from the christian doctrine of jesus and stuff it feels almost like a pagan holiday again?

like for example:

Santa started as just a regular saint, but then Capitalism and changing moral values in relation to kids turned him into a benevolent, all-seeing god with similar vibes to Odin?

Rudolph and the other reindeer. flying reindeer that pull a bright red sleigh through the night and around the world to help an old man break into people's homes and leave the kids' presents? that's some witchy shit if ive ever seen it. not to mention the GLOWING NOSE THAT WAS ABLE TO LEAD THEM OUT OF A VERY THICK FOG AND AROUND THE WORLD. I guess that part really just raises the question of what they did when an area had snow or rain christmas morning before Rudolph?

the elves. a bunch of really short non-human creatures who's whole purpose is to build things for kids, despite never interacting with them? that sounds a it like the brownies from the uk and ireland (I think, dont quote me on the exact locations of any of this folklore) all got kicked off of their land and needed somewhere to live.

(not technically christmas specifically, but deserved a special mention) Jack Frost. a british/american spirit that was commonly blamed for fern frost forming on windows (this doesn't happen to most houses anymore because of a specific coating they put on the newer ones). His name most likely came from a merging and rebranding of two norse spirits, Jokul AND Frosti (ice or icicle and frost, respectfully). given his possible origins, I feel pretty comfortable that we (american eclectic witches) should be working with/worshipping him more often (maybe for global warming?)

I think, deep down, what Im enamored with as a Skulduggery Pleasant Fan, is not the actual written canon but the vibes.

I dont know when it started and how and why, but there was a shift at some point in which the silliness of the books was outweighed by reality.

And yeah. Thats fair, honestly. But Ive read Demon Road as well and it just.... It literally oozes fun. Its a short, contained thing. Its full of funky ideas that dont have to be perfectly explored because, oopsie daisy, we dont actually have the time. It says something about growing up, about gender and sex, about trauma and about magic and then its over.

Maybe the Skulduggery Pleasant Universe is just... its been too long. If you need to reset everything, if your scale goes from Ireland to global to godhood, from Mage to Grand Mage to Supreme Mage, from protagonist to hero to godcreature? Maybe its too big.

I really enjoyed Book 10 and 11 and even 12. But its not the same enjoyment I have of Book 1. Or 2. Or 3. Like... This whole rant was prompted by Valkyrie saying, ca. Two thirds into Book 12, that (this isnt an accurate quote) "At first, it was Elementals and Adepts. Now theres so much more. Neoterics and Mutations. I think its enough."

And thats kind of funny, isnt it. Because yeah. The world grows and grows and grows and we say goodbye to characters, we get invested in new ones, we worry about Omen and Auger and Never. Militsa, even. Oberon. We meet characters again and they're different and new now.

But maybe, and I love this series to death, maybe its enough. There is an expiration date on all ideas. You can only write so much.

I wish Landy would do something like Demon Road again. It was fun, it was fast, it had vibes. At the same time, I know theres Book 16 to 18 in production right now and... Do I read them? Will they be good? Or have I already said goodbye to this series and all the things I held dear about it.

I was so young when I read the first book. And all its ideas and all its contents have been living in my head, essentially rent free. It has inspired me. It has shaped my perception on urban fantasy. It made me want to become a writer.

... So what now, I suppose.

I have 2,5 books more to go. I have a few ideas for analysis left. At the same time, the characters I love and want to support arent really there anymore. And thats both good and bad. Development is good, moving forward is good, writing shouldnt necessarily be stagnant.

I feel like - and this will make no sense to anyone - the bard in "The Sims Medieval". I have traveled the world, I have gathered my inspirations. Time to retreat and write an epic.

i live in a rural part of ireland, right? and idk what it is about rural ireland but some of the people are heinous. my school is in a small miserable-ass town and like. Internalised ableism is a really hard thing to deal with, especially when you're surrounded by people who constantly re-enforce it. I've also spent a lot of time worrying that I'm not disabled 'enough' to deserve certain accommodations, that I'm making an unnecessary fuss. But the truth is, autism IS a disability and if there are accommodations that can help support you, you deserve access to them. You're not taking away from others with disabilities by advocating for yourself.

It's taken me a long time to understand this and I still worry sometimes. What has helped is talking about my experiences with people I know understand, like my therapist or best friend, and learning about the experiences of other autistic people through books, social media, YouTube and even real life.

I'm sorry your mother and others aren't being understanding - remember that's a them problem, not you, and try to spend your time with people who do understand.

re EE being in the periphery. i’m pretty sure there were articles about how germany uses EE countries in EU for cheap labor. like sure, they’re privileged compared to most say african states, but it’s not like WE countries give that privilege for free or out of good heart, when in reality it’s geographic control + cheap labor + brain drain. combined with the fact that EU doesn’t allow for state control of markets, it means that those EE countries that had state enterprises are now in disadvantage. like i think EE countries have more in common with latin american countries than western europe , idk.

EE is a neo-colony to the WE. whenever i talk about this, while i do use EE as a term because its more understood than SEE (southern-eastern europe), my experiences are yugoslavian, and there are big differences between eastern bloc and exyu countries. it isnt the same, economically nor politically, since yugoslavia was a part of the third world movement, thus primarily working with african and latam countries in its past (also reason why we have the lowest skin-based-racism in europe)(different than nationality racism, thats what we excel at).

a lot of croats (esp dalmatians) mainly moved to latam countries during ww2 as opposed to the usa (the current chilean and argentinian presidents are croatian dalmatians)(sorry guys we are kinda ruining yalls countries)

it was very surprising to me when i started following global-south-commies on here, they always have very positive opinions of yugoslav countries. i find it very endearing how all my political yugoslav posts end up being hits among them.

politics unrelated, croats tend to love latam countries because of football, messi was literally the coolest person in the entire world while i was a kid. there are lots of similarities in mentality.

“Being through to the live shows is absolutely incredible.” Harry started and you all agreed.

You totally did it your own and I love that the band is working cause even though Simon is gonna say he put this band together, it was my idea originally Simon. It was. It was my idea and it worked.” Louis and Simon argued as you stood next to Louis who rubbed your shoulder happily. “I believe you could be the next big boy band… with a girl.” You laughed at that knowing you were in fact a boy band with one girl. “You have a lot of work to do with- Simon do you have a stylist? Or is it you?” the audience booed as you guys looked at each other slightly off put.

“I dont know who put you together because I wasn't there but you guys fit together so well.” You all jumped around at her words. “The song was great. You truly did make it your own. I wasn’t thinking of Cold Play then. Perfect pop band performance.”

The audience cheered and Danii’s words. “I have to agree with Danii, you look like you were meant to be together and in a group. You look fantastic. You've got all the ingredients for the perfect pop band. The girls and boys at home are going crazy for you, but you've got to take a little bit more time to develop as a group. That's all, just a little bit.” You grabbed Nialls hand after that and he squeezed it tightly. 

“As far you go in creating the group Louis lets rewind the tapes.” Simon fired back and everyone laughed. “Essentially you guys came together because your bootcamp auditions were not good enough, but you were too good to throw away. We took a risk. I’ve got to tell you what was so impressive about that- because its a big leap going on that stage- is when one of you started to screw up at the end Autumn and Liam stepped in and you brought it back together. Thats what bands do.” You and Liam- who was behind you- looked at each other and smiled as you rested your head against him briefly in gratitude. 

“And regarding the whole style issue, Louis… I don't want to style this band because I don't know how to style a band like this. We want the band to do whatever they wanted to do. I'm not gonna interfere, they're gonna do it their way. It was brilliant guys.” 

As Dermot came on stage you all got closer and saw Harry wink at someone in the crowd and you giggled at him making him look toward you and smile. You still held Niall's hand in yours and you let go of it only to wave as you walked off stage before everyone was wrapped in a giant hug by Louis. “Tommo!” you screamed laughing as it was your back he jumped on in the hug. Everyone laughed as you pulled apart and you saw Bev and Bentely. 

You ran to them giving them both hugs. “You did so well!” they cheered you on and you laughed anxiously. “We’re so proud of you, you know? We might not be able to make it to any more shows, but we want you to know that.” Bev told you and you shook your head knowingly. “Yeah I know. School and the drive must be really hard to balance. But I'm so glad you came when you could.” Bentely handed you a box without saying anything. “Man of many words.” you joked as open the box to see a new Blackberry. “No way you didnt.” you gasped as you jumped at him and he hugged you laughing. “First performance gift.” you laughed knowing how he would spoil you whenever he could. “Thank you Meadow.” he hugged you again. “Always Fall. Your Nan and Pap would kill me if I forgot but they said they'll try to get her soon. With the bakery being busy and the distance.” You understood and knew they wouldn't want you to think they didnt care. “I'll call them later and tell them its all alright.”

“Hey Autumn! We're going out to eat.” Harry called from a little ways back. “You gonna join?” you faced back to them. “Gotta get miss studious back to school. Sorry Fall.” you laughed it off because Beverly was the least studious person you knew, but school came easy to her. “Autumn!” Louis called.

“Okay I'll see you guys later.” You gave them another hug before running off and jumping on Zayn's back. “Ride like the wind.” you spoke mockingly until he actually started running and you couldn't help but laugh hysterically as all the boys chased you both through the stadium and to the car park. “Where are we eating?”

“KFC.”

Why are there fanfictions of a pregnant Penelope running away from Colin to live in Ireland or Scotland and raise the baby without ever telling Colin or her trying to get rid of the baby by drinking what Marina drank in season 1? Like Pen would ever kill her baby or leave her baby fatherless. And it's always the reason her running being that entrapment comment. First Pen would have forgiven Colin easily after that comment and second she would NEVER take his child away from him. That's his kid too and Colin loves children. She would NEVER try to kill her baby. Those so-called 'fans' don't understand Penelope's character at all.

The entrapment comment, wasn't for her, it was for Lady Whistledown and she knows it. I don't think is enough important either. Like yeah, he was hurt, he said something mean. And I don't like to talk about the M character at all.

Pen is nurturing person, I don't see her doing something like that. I m not trying to shame anybody. Some people has their own reasons, and problems. It's a choice having a baby or not.

But she has money so she would have the resources to have a kid, even for her own.

I'm trying to think when I'm writing. I'm dont see Pen running away, that doesn't sound like her. But if she did, or she had an annulment and she goes away to figure out after that she's pregnant, she would have it. I think she would go to live to a knew place where nobody knows her, and she would try to have a life there. But I don't see her hidden the baby from Colin either. I only can think in a soup opera when she sent a letter to Colin and he never received or something like that. She would tell him the truth. I don't see Colin letting her go either. The only way I can think about it is this:

She gets pregnant but she doesn't know it. She feels remorse from being LW, and she doesn't want to marry him because of that. So, she takes her money and goes away. She lets a letter to him saying the truth or part of it. She figured that is pregnant after she starts a life in another place and then Colin is trying to find her. She wants to come back but something happens and she can't. Colin finally finds her when the baby is recently born.

This is one of the ways I can imagine it.
