It's a sunny afternoon, the garden is full of life and everyone came to celebrate Henry's birthday today. Henry is currently sitting on a small wooden bench surrounded by his friends while Spencer shows them his favorite magic tricks. He lets cards slide through his fingers, pulls handkerchiefs out of the air and amazes the children - especially Henry, who sits there with his eyes wide open almost the entire time.
"What do you think, Henry? Ready for something you've never seen before?" Spencer stands in front of the boy and raises his hands, which start to intertwine in a fluid movement. âYes, definitely!" Henry says enthusiastically.
Spencer quickly brings one of his hands down and pulls a glittering ring out of the air, which immediately appears in his other hand. "Look here, Henry, it's really easy,â Spencer says with a wink. âWooooow!" the children shout in unison and Henry claps euphorically.
You, sitting next to Penelope on another bench, are also completely fascinated - but you're not just looking at the ring or the tricks. Your gaze keeps wandering to Spencer, to his hands to be precise, which performed the magic with such precision. It's not just the art of magic that captivated you, but also the man himself.
How skillfully his fingers move, how naturally he juggled the small objects - all of this makes your thoughts drift away. The fact that youâve been in love with him for years now makes it even worse. You imagine how his hands would touch you, how he would hold you when...
You suddenly hear your name and flinch. You didn't even really hear him talking to you, as your thoughts were far away from the magic trick. "Are you even listening to me?" Spencer asks. "Why are you staring at my hands all the time?" You freeze. Suddenly you are so aware of the situation that you almost feel like everyone in the circle is watching you.
Your cheeks turn red. "Uh... I... I just wanted to know how the trick works," you stammer. Penelope, who is sitting right next to you, couldn't help but giggle and whispered to you: "Sure, that must have been the reason..."
"Yes! Exactly," you answer way too quickly. "I... wanted to find out how you did it!" Spencer looks at you for a while, then nods. âSometimes, it's better if you don't understand the trick," he says with a mysterious smile. "Otherwise the real magic is lost." You try not to blush any more. "Of course, that's true," you murmur and try to relax. Penelope, who is watching the whole situation with a grin, giggles quietly.
Spencer turns back to his magic tricks, but his gaze keeps wandering over to you. You try to look away from his hands now, but unfortunately it's all to no avail. You find yourself looking at his hands and your thoughts wandering in another direction, and Penelope, noticing this, nudges you teasingly with her elbow. "Looks like our genius is enchanting you even more today than usual," she says.
To get out of the situation and keep a clear head, which is never possible around him, you stand up. "I'll get a drink," you mutter. "Good idea," Penelope says with a cheeky grin as you walk towards the house. The other children are busy watching the magic tricks again, but you can't shake the thought of Spencer.
His hands, which unleashed the magic so precisely and elegantly, preoccupied you much more than you would like to admit. You wonder what else he could do with those hands - if it wasn't just about magic tricks.
Spencer, who is busy with the children and their enthusiasm, casts a quick glance at Penelope, who looks at him with an amused smile. He goes over to her while the children continue to marvel and chat. Spencer casts a glance in the direction you went and then wonders if he missed something. âTell me, Penelope,â Spencer begins, âdo you also think she was acting a bit strange just now?â
Penelope laughs. "Oh, come on, Spencer. She was completely distracted." Spencer raises his eyebrow. "By my hands?" he asks, now slightly amused and curious. "Why?" Penelope looks at him and then grins widely. "Well, because she... watched pretty closely how you used them. She was completely fascinated," she explains.
âFascinated?" Spencer repeats, now even more confused. "And what's so fascinating about that?" Penelope shakes her head and laughs softly. "Come on, you genius, do you really have no idea?" She clicks her tongue and looks at him with an expression that was almost too good-natured to be serious. "Um... no, not really," Spencer replies, looking at her confused. "Explain it to me."
Penelope raises her hands in an innocent gesture. "You're a genius, you should be smart enough to figure that out on your own." She winks at him and then stands up. "I'm going over to the others. Use your clever head properly," she says and then walks towards the house. Spencer ponders, the explanation has triggered something in him, but he still can't quite figure out what exactly Penelope meant.
Then he decides to tell Morgan - who is standing on the other side of the garden - about the previous conversation. He had no idea what had just happened, but something told him that he had to understand it. He walks quickly towards Morgan, who is just getting a beer from a cooler.
âHey, Morgan," Spencer says, stepping next to him. "You didn't happen to notice what just happened, did you?" Morgan looks at him with a grin when he hears the question. He laughs quietly and takes a sip from the bottle. "Yeah, I noticed. She couldn't take her eyes off you the whole time.â
Spencer suddenly feels a little embarrassed. "What exactly do you mean by that? She was just a little distracted by the tricks. That's all." Morgan raises an eyebrow and then shakes his head, still grinning widely. "So you're really the only one who doesn't notice, huh?" Morgan asks. "Notice what?" Spencer replies. "Well, if you don't understand..." Morgan says, laughing again. "She's in love with you, pretty boy. That's what's going on."
Spencer is so surprised that he just sits there speechless for a moment. "You really think she's in love with me?" Morgan laughs again. "Um, yeah? Have you never noticed how she acts when you're around? How nervous she gets?" Spencer blinks as he thinks about it. He actually hasn't noticed that you sometimes act differently around him.
He thought about the tricks and the magic all the time, but never about the fact that you might be interested in him for another reason - something much more personal. He tried to push the thought away, but something inside him wouldn't let it go. He wanted this - you - for years and he doesnt want to get his hopes up now. This has to be a misunderstanding, there is no way you are actually interested in him like that.
Deep down, he's wondering if he was really that blind. And what if Morgan was right? What if you actually feel more for him? He looks around again, glancing at you. Spencer puts the thought aside for now - but he knows he can't shake it off so easily. He feels like he can't ignore the whole situation any longer. After talking to Morgan, he realized a lot of things, but he really needed to talk to you to understand them. He has no idea how you would react.
You, on the other hand, try to avoid Spencer for the rest of the evening. You can't be near him without imagining what his hand would feel like around your neck or between your legs. But since Spencer is so popular with the kids and they can't get enough of him and his magic tricks, it's fortunately easier than you think to avoid him. But you still often feel his gaze on you and it makes you nervous.
Later that evening, after most of the guests have already left, you help JJ bring in a few glasses and bottles. You are just about to go back outside when Spencer comes towards you. "Hey," he says, but before you can even reply, Spencer pulls you aside and into the small guest room at the end of the hall. The door closes behind you and the atmosphere in the room is suddenly much more intimate.
âWhat's wrong?" you ask, still a little confused because he took you aside so suddenly. "You avoided me today," he says. You avoid his gaze so he doesn't see that you are blushing again and start babbling. "Henry and his friends were so impressed by you and your magic and it's his birthday, I didn't want to disturb you. JJ also needed help and I agreed to do that. We were both busy, so it's clear that we don't run into each other that often," you explain hastily.
âThat's not true. You deliberately avoided me. And your mind was somewhere else. As if something was distracting you,â he says, taking a step closer to you. âWhy donât you want to tell me what distracted you today?â he asks, looking down at you. Your heart is beating faster and faster and you are a little overwhelmed by the whole situation.
You didn't expect Spencer to confront you with it. "Now youâre quiet. That's uncharacteristic of you. I think I'm making you nervous," he says. "I...uh," you start, but you're unable to form a sensible sentence. "I was just talking to Morgan and⌠now I know why you were looking at my hands like that." You look at him questioningly. "What?"
"You were looking at my hands," he says, "because you're in love with me." A laugh escapes you. Your reaction leaves Spencer startled, his voice suddenly uncertain. "Why are you laughing?" he asks, and for a moment he looks as if he's not sure what to make of it. "Is it because I'm wrong? I'm sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable -"
But before heâs able to continue, you quickly grab his arm and pull him towards you. Your lips meet his, and for a moment everything else is forgotten. The kiss is gentle and at the same time full of emotions - as if you want to tell each other everything you never put into words. When you pull away from him, you look deep into his eyes and whisper âMorgan is right... I'm in love with you."
Spencer stares at you for a moment, as if to make sure he heard you correctly. But before he can say anything, you quickly add, "But that wasn't the only reason I was staring at your hands," you tell him. "No?" Spencer raises an eyebrow, his curiosity piqued. "What was the other reason?" he asks, and you can see in his eyes how eager he is to know. "I want to know."
You can see the sparkle in his eyes, the mixture of relief and curiosity, and for a moment you feel your heart beating a little bit faster. There's something you haven't told him yet, something you need to explain to him. But the look in his eyes melts your nervousness.
"I was looking at your hands," you begin, "because you use them in a way I've never seen before. Your movements are so precise, so... controlled. It's not just magic, Spencer. I want to know what else they can do." Spencer is silent for a moment, and then you see a slight smile appear on his face. âSo, you're looking at my hands because you want to know what else they can do?" he asks. "Yes," you answer quietly, "but also because I just can't get enough of you."
âI donât want you to get enough of me. Ever. Because I am in love with you too. For quite a while now. Since the day you sat down on the jet next to me and challenged me to play chess, to be more exact,â he says and leans forward to kiss you again, his hands grabbing your hips to pull you closer.
A gasp escapes your mouth and Spencer takes the opportunity to deepen the kiss and explore your mouth with his tongue. You can feel the heat rushing through your body and you press yourself even closer against him, reaching for his hand. His eyes follow every move with a curious look. You take his hand and slowly guide it to your neck.
His mind slows for a minute and then he finally understands. âThatâs what youâve been fantasizing about earlier. My hands exploring your body. Me choking you. Havenât you?â he asks and you nod. His eyes darken and you can see the lust sparkling in them.
His hand now wraps around your neck entirely and he squeezes gently. âMore,â you whisper. âYou tell me if itâs too much, okay?â Spencer says with a concerned look on his face before he tightens the grip on your neck. âYes Spence, of course,â you breath out before getting distracted by his hand sliding up your inner thigh.
His hand is now under your skirt, running over your panties. âCan I touch you?â Spencer asks and you pull him down by his tie to whisper in his ear. âOf course you can, Spence. I need you to touch me. Iâve been dreaming about this since forever. Iâm all yours.â You kiss slowly down his neck, then nibbling on his skin to mark him with a hickey.
Thatâs all Spencer needs to hear. His hand pulls your panties to the side and he grazes your clit with his finger to tease you. âSpence, please. Touch me,â you whimper and he chuckles. âSomeoneâs eager. Fantasizing about my hands got you worked up, am I right, sweetheart?â he asks, finally touching your clit with his thumb. Your only respond is a moan and you press down on his finger to show him you need more.
âI barely touched you and youâre already soaked,â he says as he runs his finger through your folds. âOnly⌠only for you, Spence,â you manage to say and slide your hands up to his shirt to open the buttons, taken off guard when he pushes a finger inside you. Your knees are trembling and you have to hold yourself against his body in order to stay up.
âSpence, thatâs so - it feels so good⌠I - I need more, please,â you whine and he pushes another finger inside you. He reaches all the spots you never could and youâre a moaning mess, rocking yourself against his hand. âGood girl,â he praises you and it takes you off guard. You clench around his fingers and he chuckles. âYou like that, didnât you? Me calling you a good girl. So praise kink and hand kink, letâs find out what else youâre into.â
You didnât expect to hear such words from him. He is always the sweet, gentle and unassuming genius when you are around him, but now, that both of you snapped, finally giving in into your desires, he shows you a completely different side of him, one youâre more then excited to discover. It turns you on immensely.
He squeezes your throat more and pumps his fingers faster, rubbing your clit in circles with his thumb and it doesnât take long for you to come on his hand. You hold yourself steady against him with trembling knees while he is busy running his hands down your shirt, tugging at your bra and squeezing your breasts. You help him taking off your shirt while heâs guiding you to the bed.
He unclasps you bra skilfully and pulls down your skirt and underwear in one motion, before he pushes you down onto the bed. His gazes wanders over your body and he licks his lips. âYou are gorgeous, sweetheart,â he says before he leans forward to kiss down your neck to your breast. He takes one of your nipples in his mouth, grazing it with his teeth while squeezing the other one.
You arch your back and slide your hands up to his shirt again to go back to unbuttoning it, after you got interrupted earlier by Spencer giving you so much pleasure that you were unable to continue your actions. You pull his shirt off and run your fingers over his body.
Spencer slowly kisses down your tummy now, reaching your inner thighs where he sinks his theeth into the sensitive skin, sucking the spot to leave a hickey there before he gently kisses it and leans back to admire his work. It earns him another moan from you and he and grins. âSo you like marking me, huh?â you decide to tease him back. âYou are in no position to tease, darling,â he says with a mischievous grin before he presses his mouth against your cunt, licking a strip up your folds.
Your hands reach for his hair immediately, pressing him closer to you while he devours you like a man starved. Your whimpers are music to his ears and he canât get enough of you. âYou taste even better than I imagined,â he says before he dives back in. You lift your hips to press more against his mouth but he holds you down with his arm. âNo, you have to stay still and take what I give you, do you understand?â he asks and you nod.
He shakes his head in disappointment. âWords, sweetheart,â he simply says and you need to concentrate to form a sentence. âI - oh⌠yes, I understand,â you manage to breath out and he goes back to eating you out, his grip firm on your hips to keep you still. You never felt this kind of pleasure and when you look down and see him devouring you completely, it becomes too much, you come again moaning his name.
Spencer comes up between your thighs with a satisfied smirk on his lips and you pull him down to kiss him again. You taste yourself on his lips and he pushes his tongue into your mouth. Your hand slides down to his pants and you open them with shaky hands, pulling them down. âNeed you now, Spence. Please,â you tell him. âYou need me that badly?â You nod. âYes, I want to feel you inside of me.â
He takes off his boxers and your eyes widen, he is bigger than you expected. You watch as he pumps his cock a few times before he lines himself up at your entrance, sliding through your folds a few times to tease you. Then he pushes in and you moan his name. He claps his hand over your mouth to shut you up. âShh, as much as I enjoy hearing you moan my name, you have to keep quiet,â he says.
From the lack of movement you are feeling right now you were sure heâs giving you time to adjust. When you feel ready you lift your hips to show him. He starts to slowly thrust in and out of you, hitting your G- spot with every thrust. âYou feel so good, so warm and wet just for me,â he says and feels you clenching around him.
It feels even better than you imagined. Heâs big, but itâs not uncomfortable and you want more. âHarder. You can - you can fuck me harder now,â you say and he chuckles when he hears how eager you are. He starts thrusts in and out of you faster, his hand wrapping around your throat again.
âIs this what you wanted? Is this what you imagined every time you looked at my hands?â he asks, squeezing until you see stars. âYes, oh god - Spence. Feels so good,â you moan, already feeling another orgasm building up, gripping the arm around your neck for support.
Spencer, who can feel how close you are increases the speed and thrusts even faster and deeper inside of you. Your body is on fire and when Spencer starts to apply pressure to your already sensitive clit, you feel like youâre going to explode. âCome for me, sweetheart. Come around my cock,â he says and his permission is all you need to let go.
Spencer fucks you through your orgasm, also close to reaching his own now. âFuck, I need to come inside of you. Can I, Sweetheart?â he asks, his thrusts getting sloppier. âYes, in- Inside me,â you say and he finishes a few thrusts later. When he pulls out you can feel his cum dripping down your thighs, but you donât mind. He collapses next to you on the bed and pulls you into his arms, placing a kiss on your head.
âAre you okay?â he asks you while he plays with your hair. âYes, thatâs was amazing,â you say and give him a peck on the lips before you cuddle closer to him, gently stroking his hair. He looks down to you. âDo you have to get the morning after pill? I can get it for you,â he says and you smile. âIâm on the pill, Spence, but thank you anyway,â you say and give him a kiss.
You stay in bed cuddling but after a while you speak up. âI would love to cuddle with you all evening, but I think we need to go back out soon, the others are probably already looking for us,â you say and he nods. âA few more minutes. I donât want to let you go just yet,â he says and you smile. âI love you,â you say and he smiles back. âI love you too.â

*whispers* Viktor never once says anything mean or belittling to Jayce after they become partners. Not one insulting "you" statement, not one disagreement where he doesn't remained focused on the point of contention. He never makes ad hominem attacks, he never insults Jayce's appearance or intelligence.
Literally the single meanest thing he says to Jayce that could be considered a "you" statement is "Your mind has become rigid." Basically, he's saying that Jayce has suffered so much recently that it's closed his mind to broader intellectual possibilities like, that is barely an insult, and clearly Viktor just means it as a statement of fact, if not a challenge for Jayce to joyously consider possibilities again. And by the way? That statement is when Viktor is in his full his villain arc. It's remarkable because it's the only time he's pointed out a perceived flaw in Jayce since the night when he questioned if Jayce signed his notes out of being egotistical.
From the moment Jayce told Viktor about how beautiful magic could be, arguably once Jayce became a person to Viktor rather than a subject of academic discipline or skepticism, Viktor has not once leveled a personal attack against him as a person. Not even during the fight on the bridge. Not even when he called Jayce's Councilor work a waste of our time. Not even when Jayce was considering making Hextech weapons, Viktor still remained focused on the substance of the argument, expressed incredulity, anger, even disgust that Jayce would consider making weapons, but he never said it was because Jayce was stupid or privileged or blind. He pointed out specifically that he knew Jayce felt trapped by the decision, he knew Jayce was being manipulated, and then, in a very pointed manner, Viktor reminded Jayce that there's always a choice, challenging Jayce to stand firm and do what was right.
Even when they parted ways in 2.02, Viktor didn't say there was anything wrong with Jayce. He just said their paths had diverged, again not saying anything was wrong with Jayce, or even his choices, but rather that they're two different people who had stayed together longer than their diverging goals normally would have allowed because of the affection they held for each other.
I don't know, I get why people write Viktor as catty or mean or dismissive of Jayce. There's definitely some quotes from the day they met, before they become partners, that lend to the idea that Viktor can be quite dry and sharp with others. And conflict is the stuff of good fiction so again, totally get putting some conflict between him and Jayce in fic.
But I also think there's a tendency in derivative works like fic to Flanderize the characters, or worse, put them into narrow archetype boxes that are vastly different from their more interesting and nuanced canon selves.
How many times have we seen a wiggly man/straight man or blue vs. red personality partnership duo? How often have we seen those partners not be able to fucking stand each other, who are bickering all the time, who are snide or backtalk, or are perpetually sarcastic?
It's so common that I get why people see it with Jayce and Viktor but that's why it's so damn fascinating to me that they aren't like that.
Jayce and Viktor don't suffer each other unwillingly at any point, even when they're having a goddamn flying superhero fight in the final episode they're talking about how they're happy to see each other and praying that the other will please step away from this destructive path! They don't want to hurt each other, even verbally!
During the years of their partnership, they're constantly delighted by the other's presence, they are instantly comfortable together and never have a bad word to say to or about each other. They actually don't bicker! When they have disagreements, they stay entirely focused on the point of the disagreement and they never dip into personal attacks of any kind.
Even the tone of the time Jayce yells at him on the bridge, arguably their most acrimonious moment in the whole first season, isn't an actual argument, no more than a parent yelling at their child for running into traffic is an argument. Jayce says awful things but it's clear his anger comes from fear for Viktor and for their precarious situation. And it's clear this is a deeply unusual moment for both of them, Viktor is taken aback at how unusual it is, Jayce once called out backs down immediately, arguably because it's so unnatural for them to fight at all that it takes the wind out of the sails of Jayce's anger instantly when he realizes he's crossed a line.
No one can drag a bad word about Viktor out of Jayce, and vice versa! When Singed implies that Viktor might lose loved ones over his choices, Viktor immediately (and correctly!) states that Jayce will understand.
They are rigorously protective of one another too. Arguably all the times Viktor excludes Jayce from his Hexcore experiments in S1 is to protect him from his reckless and likely illegal experiments (as well as not wanting Jayce to stop him and wanting to live, but it can be many things). Jayce constantly cites Viktor as his partner and constantly reiterates that Viktor is his priority in life, that saving Viktor comes first. Jayce overthrows the goddamn founder of the city in order to protect Viktor!
Jayce's love for Viktor is so extreme that literally in S2, the only person who can convince Jayce to hurt Viktor, after seeing the post-apocalyptic Hell of a future that is caused by him, is Viktor himself. Jayce doesn't even get mad at Viktor after he learns Viktor is the cause of what he saw! He is instead desperate to get back, to avert the damage caused by their joint work in Hextech, and saved Viktor from the fate worse than death that is Mage Viktor's total isolation in the aftermath. And every step of the way, even knowing what he knows it's clear he's in agony at the thought of having to raise a hand to Viktor at all.
Now of course I'm getting into just how insane their love for one another gets in S2, but I just feel so baffled sometimes reading fic where Viktor is constantly undercutting, insulting, or belittling Jayce every which way. He never once does that after the partnership begins. And it makes me so insane because we have so many partnerships in media that do devolve into sarcasm, cattiness, and backbiting but Jayce and Viktor aren't one of them and that's really really fucking interesting and worthy of exploration I think.

the look of love
RAFE CAMERON meets the new art teacher.
includesâfem!teacher!reader / uncle!rafe / reader goes by "miss sugar" / fluff / grumpy x sunshine / family dynamics / safe to read! / wc 1.5k
Sarah already had her own family. Two rascals, Jackson and Josie. Meanwhile, Rafe didnât. He had no kids. Nada. Zero. And he planned to keep it that way for a while.
As much as he loved his niece and nephew, they depleted his desire to have any. They were both rowdy and talkative and an awful lot like their parents.Â
It scared him.Â
He didnât need more John Bâs and Sarahâs walking the earth. Those little devils.
And yet, he was on his way to pick them up from school.
He never had to before. It was typically JJ, Kie, or anyone who wasnât him. But apparently, the Pogues were more swamped than usual and had a âcustomer issueâ at their little Surf Shop. Whatever that meant.
Safe to say, Rafe wasnât too thrilled about it. He was a busy manâthe CEO of Cameron Development, to be exact. Children didnât fit in his schedule. At least, that was what he told himself on the lonelier, quieter days. But family was family, as his dad always said. So, when his sister had called him, pleading, he reluctantly agreed.Â
When he pulled into the pick-up zone, driving along the curb, he spotted his niece and nephew. They were hard to miss, not only because they were the only kids in front of the school, but because of the woman accompanying them. You.Â
With the sweetest smile Rafe had ever seen, you stood between them, hands clasped behind your back, your eyes darting between the two children as they talked over each other.Â
Rafe stopped in front of them and rolled the windows down. The youngest of the two, Josie, was the first to notice.Â
An exaggeratedly loud gasp left her lips, her eyes wide. âUncle Rafe!âÂ
That set off a chain reaction.Â
Jackson looked up, his brows furrowed. âUncle Rafe?âÂ
Rafe didnât know if he should feel offended.
Then, your gaze shifted away from the kids, meeting his eyes through the passenger window. Time slowed. He saw your smile soften, and you waved at him. His heart lurched out of his chest, the feeling foreign and borderline uncomfortable.Â
What the fuck?
But he didnât have time to dwell on the feeling as his niece and nephew rushed towards his car.
âUncle, uncle, uncle,â Josie chanted, panting like she ran a mile. âYouâre pickinâ us up?â
Jackson stared at him with narrowed eyes. âYou never pick us up.âÂ
Damn, what was this kidâs problem?
âYes, Josie. And, well, theyâre busy at the Surf Shop,â Rafe sighed, unlocking the car doors to let them in. âSo, you guys got me for today.â
Through the rearview mirror, he watched the children clamber into the vehicle, feet kicking and hands flying as they argued about trivial mattersâI always sit on the left side! So? I got in first. Youâre being a butthead! Iâm telling mommy you called me a butthead!âand so on. He chuckled, his lips curving into a grin.
Suddenly, you spoke, âTheyâre special, huh?âÂ
Your voice was warm and inviting. He didnât know a person could sound so lovely.
When Rafe looked at you, he forgot how to speak. Every word he knew? Gone. And you barely did anything. You were just standing before the passenger door, staring back at him. He couldnât help but notice the smudge of orange paint on the bridge of your nose.Â
âYeah, definitely,â he ultimately said, nodding.
You extended your right hand out to him through the open window. He saw more dried paint on your fingertips. âIâm Miss Sugar, the new art teacher here.â
Ah, that explained it.Â
âRafe.â He shook your hand, his eyes locked on your face. Your hand felt soft but far from fragile. âRafe Cameron.â
âItâs so nice to meet you,â you beamed.
Did you ever stop smiling? Your cheeks should be hurting at this rate.Â
He nodded, letting go of your hand before he looked like a creep. âPleasureâs all mine.â
âOh, Uncle Rafe,â Josie called, rummaging through her backpack, âme and Jackson made a paper chain thingy with Miss Sugar! Look, this oneâs you!âÂ
He turned his head, eyes squinting at the paper doll chain she held up. Josie explained they made it during the after-school program, where she and Jackson spent a few extra hours each day. There were nine cut-out paper dolls, with what he assumed to be Josie at the start and him at the end. It was rough around the edges, but what did Rafe expect from a five-year-old? And the longer he stared at it, Rafe figured he was a last-minute addition, his hand glued to Sarahâs doll, the paper there wrinkled.Â
From the corner of his eye, he saw you tilt your head into his car, looking at the kids. You seemed proud. It made him wonder what it felt like to have someone be proud of him.
âThatâs really nice.â Rafe looked at his niece, who grinned brightly at his praise. He then stared at the frowny face drawn on his doll. âWhyâs everyone smiling except for me?â
âBecause youâre always grumpy,â Jackson replied bluntly.Â
Little Josie slapped a hand over her mouth and erupted in giggles. Of course, his nephew was the one behind it.
Seriously, did this kid have a vendetta against him?
âOkay, youââ Rafe caught sight of your amused expression, and he bit back his words, ââIâm not always grumpy.â
You tried to cover up your laugh with a cough. âYeah, he doesnât look grumpy right now,â you defended, though it was far from convincing. Then you shot him a wink, and the gears in his mind stuttered and fell apart. Were you flirting with him? Or was it more of an âI got your backâ sort of wink?Â
Fuck, why did he even care? He needed to pull himself together.Â
âAnyways, I have to get back now,â you sighed, and the kids protested almost immediately. He saw a frown tug on your features, and you moved to the backseat window, cooing a mix of âI knowâ and âI wish I could stay longerâ that eased their complaints. Eventually, you moved to the passenger window again, telling him a sweet, âGet home safe.â
Rafe felt himself having to fight back a smile. âThanks.âÂ
You pursed your lips, your fingers tapping the window seal. âDonât be a stranger, Rafe Cameron,â you said, stepping back from his car.
Jackson and Josie shouted their goodbyes to you before he could respond, but your words rang in his ears. Donât be a stranger. He watched you wave to him and the kids before turning on your heel, your long skirt dancing around your legs as you made your way to the schoolâs entrance. Once you disappeared behind the door, he eased off the brake and pulled out of the pick-up zone.
As Rafe drove the kids home, the wind whipped through the open windows, the music on the stereo hummed softly, and his niece and nephew whispered to each other in the backseat. What about? He didnât know, nor did he want to know. But he suspected they were up to no good.Â
Josie cleared her throat with an over-the-top ahem, ahem! âUncle Rafe?â
âWhat?â
She didnât waste another second. âWhat you think of Miss Sugar?â
Rafe stared hard at the road. He had many thoughts about you: beautiful, messy, stunning, smiled too much, gorgeous.Â
âUh, she seems nice,â he answered, glancing at her through the rearview mirror. âWhy?â
âJust wondering!â Josie chirped.
Silence fell between them.
He thought that would be it, and then he heard more whispering. Dread flooded his body. Rafe tweaked the stereo volume higher. They hadnât caught that you piqued his interest, right? No, that would be ridiculous. They were kids. They would be none the wiser.
At least, he thought so until his niece asked, âDo you think sheâs pretty?â
No wonder the Pogues called her Nosy Josie. It all made sense now. And, of course, he thought you were pretty. Who wouldnât?
Rafe sucked in a breath, scratching his brow. âIâm not answerinâ that.â
Jackson grumbled, âI told you, Josie.âÂ
âYou didnât!âÂ
And a new argument ensued. But for once, Rafe was content listening to their high-pitched shouts because that meant the attention was off him. He didnât want to be pestered about you any further. If Josie had kept pushing, he feared he would be sent down a rabbit hole, you consuming his thoughts.
But maybe he had already fallen down the rabbit hole. He was just too busy denying it.
Soon, Rafe arrived at their home, and the kids hopped out of his car and ran to their parents. Sarah thanked him for picking them up as John B took them insideâJosie sat on his hip, with Jackson walking beside him. He brushed it off, even offering to pick them up from school more often. His sister looked surprised and a little skeptical, but she didnât question his change of heart.Â
While Rafe Cameron didnât have time for children, he could make time for you.

{Tipsy lipstick kisses with your girlfriend Vi}
Rahhh gimmie her now!
ââşââ âžââşââ ââşââ âžââşââ ââşââ âžââşââ ââşââ âžââşââ ââşââ âž
âYa got such a cute nose baby.â Youâre drunk, well not completely wasted but enough to make the world spin slightly and your mind feel all fuzzyâ enough for you not to care that you were currently straddling Vi's lap littering her beautiful face with cherry-red kiss marks.
Vi didnât have the heart to stop you, not that she wanted to. No, she absolutely relished in the attention you were showering her with. Besides, you looked so good, perched up on her strong thighs, admiring her through glassy, half-lidded eyes with your kissâsmudged lipstickâstained lipsâher pretty girl.
âYouâre gonna be fucked tomorrow angel,â Vi smirks, her rough hands rubbing against your thighs. It makes your skin tingle in a certain way that only she can make you feel and you canât help but melt into her effortlessly.
âI donât get hangovers.â You mutter oh so confidently, lying straight through your teeth, lips grazing along her jaw leaving a red smudge in their wakeâ the sight makes you go all giddy, which is only doubled by the alcohol in your system. It made you want to leave more⌠and soâŚ
Your painted lips leave a series of fluttery kisses along her neck, your hands cupping her cheeksâ squishing them together to force her lips out in a pout before you steal another kiss then another and three more and she canât help but let out a small groan, chuckling in amusement at your drunken display of affection. The rouge colour of your lipstick smeared over her heart-shaped lips and a little across her chin⌠itâs all over her face really, but your eyes are only focused on her mouth. Itâs a beautiful sight, marking her up. Youâre proud of yourself.
âMhm, I think youâre gonna be singing a different tune tomorrow morning pretty.â She says, hands smoothing along your back and your foggy mind zeros in on her biceps, the way the muscles move with her gentle movementsâ god you just wanted toâŚ
âIâm gonna bite you...â You mutter suddenly, staring down at her arms as she lets out a low chuckle. âYeah? Keep your chompers to yourself, please.â She replies, shifting her hips beneath you to sit more comfortably, watching with a smug grin at the way you bite your bottom lip⌠she couldnât help herself.
âViiiiolet. Donât be mean.â The sound should be sin, the whine that sweetens up your already honeyed tone. âMean?â how am I being mean, Iâm just sittinâ here⌠youâre the one talking about biting me, baby.â She coos back, almost condescendingly and if you were any more sober you wouldâve picked up on it.
Her intense gaze doesnât break away from you as she watches you lean forwards, Your delicate fingers curling around her jaw, manicured nails lightly pressing into her cheekâ causing her breath to hitch, payback. âYou know exactly what youâre doingâ Iâll bite you.â You playfully threaten, words coming out all slurred together as you press another sloppy kiss against her jaw leaving a shiny red print of the shape of your lips against her skin as your hands feel up her biceps, which she purposefully flexes beneath your palms.
âSink those teeth into my arm and Iâll make you sleep on the couch.â She chuckles, squeezing your waist a little as your lips grace the corner of her mouth, with a comically dramatic poutâ sheâd be lying if she said the idea wasnât piquing her interest slightly, sheâd have a field day with you tomorrow.
You let out a small groan, mumbling on about how âunfairâ she was being by âhogging her juicy arms to herselfâ with your face pressed into her shoulder. âOh itâs definitely your bedtime, youâre completely wasted and mâcovered in your lipstick.â She replies with a smirk, you can hear it in her tone. She was loving this.
âGood⌠keep it there, youâre allll mine.â You drawl, nuzzling impossibly closer into her neck with a small grumbleâ something incoherent she couldnât even begin to decipher so instead she just settles for a soft, whisperedâ âYeah, all yours baby.â In agreement.
You go silent for a moment, basking in the way her strong arms loop around you protectivelyâ so warm and safeâ and she thinks you mightâve fallen asleep if it wasnât for the way your lips trail along the tattoo on the side of her neck. You were obsessed with it, along with her back, her arms, her thighs⌠honestly everything but she didnât want to start you off by teasing you about itâ god no, she wouldnât never get you to go to sleep.
âYou gonna let me get you ready for bed now angel?â Her gentle voice breaks through the silence, her fingers massaging the nape of your neck slowly as you nod against her shoulder with a small âmâkay.â Letting her carry you off into your shared bedroom where she'll gently wipe your makeup off and get you into something more comfortable before kissing your face until those pretty eyes of yours flutter close.
ââşââ âžââşââ ââşââ âžââşââ ââşââ âžââşââ ââşââ âžââşââ ââşââ âž

Diasomnia, 6, comedy! :D
Lessons in Love || Malleus Draconia
For the Holiday Event! || Prompt: "Say that again" ; Genre: Comedy
Malleus Draconia, the powerful and enigmatic prince of the Briar Valley, was pacing in your living room.
You sat on the couch, watching him like he was a particularly skittish cat, teetering on the edge of saying something dramatic. Eventually, you sighed and crossed your arms. âMalleus, if youâve done something like declare war on RSA, just tell me now.â
He stopped mid-step, his shoulders stiff. âIt is not about a declaration of war. I have a confession to make.â
âGood. Now spit it out.â
His lips pursed, and his cheeks took on a suspiciously pink tinge. You tilted your head, curiosity bubbling. Malleus rarely got flustered, but when he did, it was comedy gold.
âIââ he began, then stopped, his voice barely above a whisper.
â...Huh?â
âI⌠may haveâŚâ he mumbled again, too low for your magicless ears to catch.
âSorry, didnât catch that.â
âI may haveâŚâ He turned away, mumbling even quieter this time.
You blinked. âMalleus, I canât hear you if youâre talking to the floor. Use your dragon voice.â
He shot you a betrayed look but finally sighed. âI may have accidentallyâŚâ Another mumble.
âI⌠sought assistance before we began courting,â he said, voice softer than a whisper.
Your curiosity peaked. âFrom who?â
He turned his head to the side, avoiding your gaze. â...Ace Trappola.â
You blinked. Once. Twice. Then, as the words sank in, you leaned forward. âIâm sorry, what?â
âI do not wish to repeat myself,â he said firmly, his pointed ears flushing.
âOh, youâre definitely repeating yourself,â you said, biting back a grin. âYou, Malleus Draconia, went to Ace Trappola for dating advice?â
He looked at you like he wanted the earth to swallow him whole. âI had heard rumors he had an⌠âex-girlfriend,â as humans call it. I sought his knowledge on how to properly court you.â
You smacked a hand over your mouth to suppress the laugh threatening to escape. âMalleus, please, you didnâtâŚâ
âHe told me to âplay it coolâ and to call you âbro,ââ Malleus admitted, looking deeply offended. âIt was terrible advice.â
That did it. You doubled over with laughter, clutching your stomach. âHeâhe told you to call me bro? And you actually listened?â
âOf course not!â Malleus said, affronted. âEven I know better than to address my beloved with such disrespect.â
âOh my god, I canât breathe,â you wheezed, tears forming in the corners of your eyes.
He pouted, crossing his arms. âI should have sought advice elsewhere, but I was⌠desperate. You have a unique way of rendering me uncertain.â
He looked like he might throw himself dramatically out the window. So you did the only reasonable thing: you hugged him from behind, wrapping your arms around his waist.
He froze for a moment, his sharp edges softening under your touch. â...You mock me,â he grumbled, though he leaned into your embrace.
âMaybe a little,â you admitted, resting your cheek against his back. âBut youâre also incredibly sweet for caring this much. Asking Ace of all people? Thatâs love.â
âBut can you say that again?â you teased, grinning. âYou went to Ace Trappola for help.â
âYou are incorrigible,â he huffed.
You leaned up and kissed his cheek, softening the pout on his face. âAnd youâre adorable when youâre embarrassed. Now come here, âbro.ââ
He groaned. âIf you call me that again, I will turn Ace into a toad.â
âIâd love to see you try.â

JUST FRIENDS â n.rk
albeit the lines of your friendship were quite blurred, it still confused you as to why riki was suddenly adamant on having your hair tie on his wrist at all times. given, you know, that it would be basically telling the world that the two of you were dating.
GENREâ fluff, highschool au, friends to lovers
WARNINGSâ lots of touching, jealousy, mutual pining but they are both oblivious idiots, cursing, toxicity (they are huge haters imo), kissing, slight making out (?), let me know if I missed any!
WORDCOUNTâ 6.4k
NOTEâ fluff is my biggest enemy, so this was quite the challenge for me. bnd ver posted here!
YOU AND RIKI WERE CLOSE. Too close, according to the rest of your friends.
You both had been best friends since kindergarten, the story of your meeting never failing to tear a chuckle out of anyone who heard it.
You were three years old, having arrived at kindergarten a few minutes ago. You were scared to go and talk to the other kids â what if they were mean? What if they laughed at your pretty bows? What if they didn't want to play with you?
You sat in one corner, away from the other kids, playing with a small doll. Amidst your playing, you saw little feet approach you. You looked up, noticing a boy of your age. He stared right back at you, before pointing at you. âYou are going to be my best friend!â
The boy had later introduced himself to be Riki, and you both had truly become best friends. The two of you were together through thick and thin, never leaving each other's side. There were no secrets between the two of you, the thought itself incredulous. You both were best friends, why on earth would you both hide something from each other?
Your bond was unbreakable, something that left many writhing in envy. How come you both were so close, never able to leave each other's side?
With a good bond, comes judgement. Judgement by others, assumptions about your true relationship.
While you both were close, not everyone knew that you both were best friends, right? To any stranger, you both were the embodiment of 'siblings, or dating?'.
While you both bickered and were playful enough to be termed as siblings, the way you both acted with each other, often left people confused.
See, your love language was physical touch, while his was acts of service. After spending so much time with each other for all these years, you both were bound to rub off on each other, weren't you?
His hand was almost always on your waist, or your shoulders â didn't matter where you guys were, or what you were doing â it was always there. If somehow he forgot to put his hand around you, you would loop your arm around his, or intertwine your hands. It was cute, definitely very cute, but â the extreme couple energy that you both excluded was insane.
It didn't help that you were often touching him, skinship being basically your second nature. You were always fixing his hair, his clothes, touching him while you were speaking to him, while you were laughing with him â how could you both expect anyone to believe that you weren't dating each other?
Not only that, both of you would often be seen giving each other random gifts, without it being a special occasion. You were often seen giving Riki a chocolate at a random time of the day, while he was often delivering milk to you. If anyone asked, he always had the same excuse: âShe doesn't drink enough water, she needs to stay hydratedâ, while you always said âhe likes chocolates, is it so wrong of me to give chocolates to a friend?â Needless to say, they always backed off after that.
It was only after a certain set of incidents that everyone finally had something to confirm that yes, you both were indeed more than friends.
IT WAS A QUARTER PAST SEVEN IN THE MORNING, fifteen minutes left for the start of the first period. You and Riki had arrived at school just five minutes ago, with his hand around your waist as usual. The two of you were giggling at some tea you were spilling regarding a relationship between a senior and a sophmore, since you were physically incapable of keeping things from him. Just as you were getting to the good part of the gossip, one of Rikiâs friends from the football team ran up to the two of you. Jake.
âHey lovebirds!â Jake cheerily waved to the both of you, his tone teasing. You simply rolled your eyes with a smile, having gotten used to the antics of his friends. âRiki, dude, I'm gonna need a favour â one of our frontiers is absent, and none of the subs are available. Please help us out for today's match â I promise I'll make it up to you, even if we don't win. You will even have a customized jersey for the match, which you can keep with yourself permanentlyâ!â
Riki hesitated, his grip on your waist tightening slightly. âI don't know, I was planning on leaving early with ___ today, to get ice cream and allâŚâ
You immediately pinched his hand that was around your waist. âHe means yes, we can always reschedule the hangout.â
Jake's eyes lit up. âReally?! Thank you so much, you have no idea how desperately we needed another player â I'll go tell the others now, you can come and practice with us during recess!â
Just before he could leave, you halted him, getting out of Riki's grasp. âJake, waitââ
He stopped on the spot, looking at you with a confused gaze. âSomething wrong?â
You stepped forward, brushing some hair out of his face gently, smoothing the slightly messy hair on top of head. You took a step back. âThere you go, the mess was bothering me.â
He blinked, a faint red coating his cheeks and creeping up his neck. He was well aware of your touchy nature, but this was the first time he was on the receiving end of it, hence his flustered state. âO-Oh, thanks â I- I'll go nowââ
He quickly turned on his heel and left, a light jog evident in his retreating figure. You turned back towards Riki, a smile on your face. âLet's go to class, or else we might be late.â
He nodded, his arm looping around your waist once more, guiding you around the busy halls, to class. You couldn't help but notice the slightly tighter grip he had on your waist, or the way his expression was different than his usual when you turned back towards him.
CLASS WAS BORING AS USUAL. The two of you sat at the back of class, messing around as usual instead of studying. Yet, there was something amiss.
Usually, Riki was a lot more playful, a lot more relaxed and free around you. Currently however, there seemed to be an air of hesitation, reluctance around him. His smile didn't exactly reach his eyes, his laughter feeling forced.
âMaybe he just isn't feeling it today?â was what you thought, so you didn't bother asking. You knew if something was seriously bothering him, he would have told you already.
Before long, the bell rang, signifying recess. You quickly held Riki's hand, pulling him out of his seat, and racing into the hall. You both had already eaten in class, â how you both never get caught, is a mystery you're both yet to solve â so he would have the entire recess to practice with the rest of the football team for the match that was going to take place later on.
You both quickly navigate your way to the football ground, spotting Jake and the rest of the team doing lazy stretches to warm up first. He spotted the two of you quickly enough, waving and rushing over to where you both were standing.
âHey,â he began, a grin adorning his face. âI'm so glad you didn't change your mind â ___, you can sit on the benches and watch if you'd like, I'm sure the others won't mind! Also, coach got the customized jersey done already â no idea how he got it done so quickly â it's there in the locker rooms, so you can change into that right now if you'd like!â
You admired his ability to yap continually without stopping, making you smile a little. You nodded in his direction, nudging Riki to go and change already, before quickly walking over to the benches and taking a seat.
Soon enough, Riki was back, adorning the jersey, making your jaw drop. You couldn't take your eyes off him â you had never seen him in attire similar to that before, but damn, he sure did look amazing.
Your face flushed slightly, as you quickly tried to snap out of these thoughts. Nope, that's your best friend, you're not going to think of him in that sense.
You watched as they all played, Riki surprisingly being able to keep pace with them. You never watched him play before, the sight drawing you in like a moth to a flame. His concentration was â were you blushing?!Â
God, what was wrong with you? Had you been single for so long that the sight of your best friend simply practicing in the field had you all giddy?
The rest of the recess went on smoothly, with you trying not to concentrate on Riki too much, lest someone caught you with your cheeks on fire. God, you really needed to get yourself together.
Once practice was over, Riki quickly went to you, his usual smile back on face. You handed him a bottle of water, quickly wiping his sweat off him. He started babbling while you were doing so. âDid you see that? I did pretty good back there, right? Jake said that he was confident we would win the match today, and said I was better than the guy I'm subbing for! Isn't that great?â
You let out a hum, finishing wiping off his sweat. âYea, you were amazing. C'mon now, we need to run, or else we will be late for history â you know how ma'am gets when someone is even two seconds late.â
He nodded, seemingly satisfied with your answer. He didn't need to know that you weren't exactly watching much of what he was doing, or that you were only watching him.
AS SOON AS THE BELL FOR THE LAST PERIOD RANG, nearly the whole school raced to the grounds. All the players, including Riki, ran to the locker rooms to change, whereas the rest of the students quickly found the best seats possible.
You sat at the very front, a bottle of water and a towel already in your hands. You were a little tense for the match, since the opponent team seemed to be extremely well prepared. Still, you tried to not let your mind wander, focusing on Riki, as he came out of the locker rooms, into the field.
The match started. The opposing team was putting up a good defense, but Rikiâs team was able to keep up. It was hard to watch, the many nearly-goals and nearly-fouls heightening your nerves. You tried to not let them get to your head, focusing instead on cheering for Riki.
Half time arrived soon enough, with both the teams having scored one goal each. Riki came straight to you, quickly taking the bottle from your hand, gulping it all down. He gave you a sheepish grin. âSorry, I'm really nervous for the match. The opposing team is⌠starting to get angry. I don't think they expected us to keep up, so they were a little dumbfounded. But now they are simply pissed â they aren't exactly known for being the fairest when it comes to playing football, and winning.â
You bit your lip, wiping off his sweat with the towel. âBut they can't use unfair means to win, can they? They will get a foulâŚâ
Your words died down on your tongue once you noticed his grim expression. âIf they somehow injured one of us, leaving us incapable of playing, what is one red card going to do? They have subs available, we don't. If one of us is out, the match would already be lost.â
You didn't know what to say in order to encourage or comfort him. You knew that the reputation of their opponents wasn't the best, but there was nothing anyone could do, other than to stay safe and try their best. So that's what you told him.
He gave you an amused smile. A teasing glint appeared in his eyes.âYou sound worried. Are you scared that they might hurt me?â
You scowled at him. âThis isn't a joke! They could actually injure you, can't you just give me your word that you will at least try to stay safe?â
He let out a small snicker, before giving you a mock salute. âOf course ma'am. Just do me a favour, will you?â
You tilted your head to the side. A favour? Now? You decided not to question it. âSure I can. But it depends on what it is.â
He grinned at you, before pulling his jersey off him, revealing a plain white t-shirt underneath. That explained why he was sweating more than the others. Who even wears two layers to a football match?
He shoved it in your chest. âWear it, and cheer for me.â
You gave him an incredulous look. âNo way! It's literally drenched in your sweat.â
He pouted, giving you a pleading look. âPlease? For me? It's only for an hour and a half, can't you do it? I'll feel a lot more motivated then. C'mon, just do it, pleaseââ
You groaned at his incessant begging. âFine! I'll wear it â just⌠ugh, help me out with itââ
The grin on his face grew, as he quickly helped slide the jersey onto you. He proudly made you twirl for him, with you hiding your face in your hands from the utter embarrassment of it â but complying nonetheless. Unbeknownst to you, a smug smirk adorned his face, as he locked eyes with Jake in the process, who quickly looked away, his ears turning red at having been caught looking.
The whistle sounded again, signifying the start of the second half. Riki quickly left, the hurried âgood luck!â that you threw at him bringing a smile to his face.
You watched as he advanced into the field with renowned vigour, the determined expression on his face soothing your nerves slightly. You made sure to cheer for him even louder than before, the grin that he threw your way making it worth the looks that were shot in your direction.
But the opposing team did not relent. Eager to match Riki's newfound enthusiasm, they changed their strategies. The brutality in every move that they made caused your anxiety to spike.Â
Riki's team, however, didn't let it deter them. Everyone was determined to win, to not succumb to the team that always tries to get their way through unfair means.
Speaking of unfair means, the attempts at making foul moves increased ten-fold. Many of the players in Riki's team were almost injured, but somehow they managed to avoid it at the last second. Why the referee wasn't giving any yellow cards, was beyond your imagination.
The clock was ticking down. Not a single goal had been made. The audience was starting to lose hope, the enthusiasm in their cheers starting to fade. You made sure to continue screaming, cheering them on as best as you could. In the midst of it all, Riki glanced at you. Upon seeing the expression on your face, he made it his personal mission to win. He had to, for you. He wasn't going to disappoint you, he swore to himself.
With a determined look, he surged forward, trying to get to the ball. Jake had the ball, and he locked eyes with him. Upon noticing the youngerâs determined expression, he managed to pass the ball to him.
Riki caught the ball without any interceptions, quickly racing towards the goal. He skillfully avoided all the attempts to tackle him, running as fast as possible to the goal. The goalkeeper froze, upon noticing the expression on his face.
Taking advantage of his momentary distraction, he struck. With a sudden burst of strength, he kicked the ball, watching as it flew into the goalpost, the goalkeeper just narrowly missing it.
The sudden uproar that erupted was deafening to say the least. His teammates were hugging and whooping, patting him on the back. The exhilarating feeling that came from the win, made him feel lighter, as if he was on cloud nine.
His eyes searched for you, noticing you trying to get past the huge crowd towards him. He quickly navigated his way out of the crowd, making his way towards you. As soon as he was in front of you, he wrapped his arms around your waist, making you squeal, as he picked you up and spun you in the air. His grin was wide, your own grin almost as wide as his. âWe won! We actually fucking won! Did you see my last goal? I looked cool right? I still can't believe I actually made the goalââ
In the midst of his yapping, one of your friends was wiping his sweat off for him. While you tried to not let it show, you couldn't help the jealousy that flared inside you at the intimate gesture. You were supposed to do it for him, not her. Riki didn't even seem to notice, too focused on telling you the details â as if you didn't witness it all by yourself.
Unable to bear the sight of her wiping off his sweat with a random towel, you grabbed his hand, pulling him away. You both set into a sprint, away from the people congratulating him.
As soon as you reached a somewhat secluded region of the school, you turned to him, your arms crossed over your chest. But before you could speak, he spoke first, his breathing coming in short pants. âGoddamn woman, I just won a match, you're already making me run again? Cut me some slack, will you?â
You rolled your eyes, ignoring his outburst. âWhy did you let her do it?â
He looked at you, confused. âHuh? Let who do whatâŚ?â
You gave him an incredulous look. âHer. You let her wipe off your sweat for you â don't tell me that you didn't notice it at all?!â
He still looked confused. âHuh? Someone did that? I didn't even realise â I was talking to you, so I was distracted, I guess. But why does it matter?â
You gave him a pointed look, frustration evident in your eyes. Why wasn't he getting it?! ââWhy does it matter?â Because I'm your best friend! I always do it for you, so why would you let her do it as well? If I'm your best friend, then shouldn't I get treated as such? Shouldn't I be treated differently from the rest of our friends? Why are you letting her do something that only I do to you?â
His eyes widened, before he frowned. âI didn't even notice her doing it⌠but if I should treat you differently from the rest of our friends, shouldn't you do the same to me as well? Why should this be a one-sided arrangement?â
Now it was your time to frown. âOne-sided? How is this one-sided?! I always treat you differently, how have I ever treated you similar to the rest of our friends?â
He rolled his eyes. âOh, I don't know, maybe yesterday? When you fixed Jake's hair for him? Since when did you start fixing people's hair other than mine?â
You were at a loss for words. You simply opened and closed your mouth several times, like a fish out of water.
Riki spoke again. âHow about this: I pay more attention to my surroundings, while you keep your hands to yourself? Don't go around touching other people's hair, that should be reserved for me only. Do we have a deal?â
You bit the inside of your cheek. âFine. We have a deal.â
You usually didn't back down from fights that easily. But everything seemed to be different when it involved Riki.
TRUE TO YOUR DEAL, the two of you didn't treat others even remotely similar to how you treated each other anymore. Both of you grew much closer than before. People could easily pick up on the change in the air around the two of you, the shippers going slightly insane. When were the two of you going to announce your relationship officially?
Neither of you paid much attention to those silly rumours, always dismissing the teasing. Friends were allowed to be possessive of each other, were they not? Was it a crime to want some things to be just between you guys, and not for everyone else to know and judge?
Days went by the same, the teasing never stopped. But it was always there from the very beginning of your friendship, not just from classmates, but outsiders and family members as well. Both of you had grown used to it.
Recently, both you and Riki had noticed the trend of wearing hair ties on wrists. While it wasn't an uncommon sight for girls, it certainly was for boys. What do they need a hair tie for, when their hair is so short?
It was quickly discovered that the hair ties were actually of their girlfriendsâ, them wearing it on their wrists being a sign of commitment â and the general fact that they had a girlfriend.
Of course, it flared jealousy among those who weren't in a relationship â including you and Riki. Both of you glared in resentment at anyone who had a hair tie on their wrist, always greeting them with a bitchy eye roll. Both of you, like every other single person, loved to hate on couples, betting on when they would break up, if they were cheating on their partner, and whatnot. You both were always met with the same responses: âJust wait till you get into a relationship.â
Your responses were the same too. The same eye roll, paired with a pissed off comment, either mocking them, or talking about how neither of you would ever bother with dating anyone. Everytime, you both were met with an exchange of amused glances. Neither of you ever understood that they meant when you both would get together.
It started to get unbearable after a while, with almost everyone wearing a hair tie on their wrist. It was frankly starting to annoy Riki a lot, to the point that he snapped at his friends, which was uncharacteristic of him. It was only then that the guys gave him the obvious solution: to wear a hair tie as well.
Wearing a hair tie on his wrist was easier said than done. For Christâs sake, he didn't have a girlfriend! Why would he wear a hair tie on his wrist, when he didn't have someone's to wear?
But then a crazy thought struck him. He may not have a girlfriend, but he definitely had a girl best friend. You. He could wear your hair tie on his wrist, right?
Turns out, you didn't share the same views as him.
âABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY NOT. Where did you even get this crazy idea from?!â
Riki bit his lip, rubbing his nape sheepishly. âWell â the guys keep teasing me, so I got desperate, and⌠uhmâŚâ
You pinched the bridge of your nose, closing your eyes, and sighing. âRiki, you're aware that only couples wear hair ties on their wrists, right? We,â You gestured between the two of you. âare not a couple. You wearing my hair tie on your wrist would be indicating that I'm your girlfriend. Which I'm clearly not. Let's not give everyone another incentive to tease us, yea?â
He let out a groan. âOh, câmon, who cares what others think? We can just â make an excuse â tell them that I'm wearing it because you keep losing your hair ties, so I'm basically your hair tie holder. How does that sound?â
You gave him an incredulous look. âNo one will ever buy that shitty excuse.â
He scowled at you. âOh, like you could come up with something better.â
You nodded enthusiastically, although it was completely sarcastic. âOf course I can! We forget this conversation! Because we both know what the hair tie would indicate. Not just to others, but between us too.â
He shook his head stubbornly. âI don't care. I'm going to wear one.â
You rolled your eyes. But before you could open your mouth to retort, Riki grabbed the hair tie that you used to meticulously tie your hair into a ponytail and pulled.
You watched in shock, as your hair came undone, your hair tie now in his hand. With a smug smirk, he wore it on his wrist, showing it to you proudly, before going off to his class. âBye ___! See you after this period!â
Oh, he was definitely going to see you. Maybe two of you or even more, depending on how hard you punch him.
JUST AS EXPECTED, you both were on the receiving end of everyoneâs teasing, becoming the new hot topic of your school. No matter how much you both tried to ignore it, it just didnât work.
Questions about whether you both were secretly dating or not followed you both left and right, comments assuming the status of your relationship were thrown about casually â it was simply too much. None of your friends believed you either, their cheeky smiles and teasing comments following you both everywhere.
All because of Rikiâs obsession with wanting to wear your hair tie.
At some point you both got sick of trying to clear up the accusations, just letting people think what they wanted to. After all, their assumptions and comments werenât going to magically come true, just because they think a certain way.
Right?
THE TEASING HAD GOTTEN TO A POINT WHERE NEITHER OF YOU COULD STAND IT ANYMORE, causing you both to avoid people as much as possible. Did no one understand the concept of personal space anymore? Or did they forget that minding their own damn business would always be more fruitful than trying to gather tea about other peopleâs love lives, or lack thereof?
Most of the time, you both hung out in the library or rooftop, sometimes even resorting to taking refuge in the janitorâs closet, thatâs how much you both were affected by the constant teasing. How come everyone was so damn invested in the love life of you both, when it didnât even concern them in the slightest?
Today was no different. From the morning, all you both could hear were comments like âSo when are you guys planning on making it official?â, âWhen will you both drop the bomb?â, âDonât bother lying, itâs too obvious that you both are super into each other.â, etc., etc. Your fist was clenched tightly by your side, Rikiâs grip on your waist also tighter than usual. The urge to punch them in the faces was extremely high. When were they going to get bored of teasing you both?
In order to escape them, Woohak steered you through the crowd, escaping into the stairway. The two of you quickly climbed up the stairs, going to the rooftop. You pushed the door to the terrace open, the cold wind whipping in your faces. Riki slammed the door shut behind him using his foot, his hand never leaving your waist.
You went towards the railing, leaning on top of it. Riki finally let go of your waist, leaning on the railing beside you. Neither of you spoke, simply enjoying the feeling of the cool breeze, and the majestic view of the cityscape beneath. The cars and people looked quite tiny from up there, like ants, which was to be expected, given that your school building was eight stories tall.
Suddenly, Riki cleared his throat. He spoke up, his voice low, eyes facing his front. âDo the rumours and the constant teasing bother you too much?â
You snapped your head towards him, your eyebrows furrowed in surprise. âWhere is this coming from?â
He looked at you. âYou know, the constant questions and comments that are thrown in our way? It just â it got me thinking: âWhat if it all bothered you too much? What if our friendship isnât worth all the comments and excessive teasing we face?â Just stuff like that.â
Your eyes widened in shock. âOh my god â donât you ever think like that, you hear me? Just because some people like to be annoying and poke their big ass nose in our goddamn business, doesnât mean our friendship isnât worth the trouble. Do you really care about other peopleâs opinions enough to end our friendship? Just like that?â
He quickly shook his head. âNo no no, absolutely not â I just thought⌠actually, nevermind. I thought the rumours were making you uncomfortable, Iâm glad I was wrong.â
A hint of a smile crept up your face, as you looked in front of you again. âA few silly comments can never make me break my friendship with you. Youâre my best friend, arenât you? Best friends are supposed to stick together, no matter what. Through thick and thin, all of our ups and downs Riki.â
He looked in front of him again, letting out a scoff, which was supposed to be an amused one, but it came out more bitter than intended. âYea, best friends⌠thatâs all we'll ever beâŚâ
The last part was quiet, but you still heard it. The tips of your ears burned, a flush creeping up your neck. You quickly tried to change the subject. âL-Letâs try something.â
He furrowed his brows, looking at you again. âTry what?â
You bit your lip, quickly trying to think of something. âUhm â letâs climb the railing and sit on it! Sounds fun, right?â
He raised a brow. âAbsolutely not. Thatâs the stupidest, and most dangerous idea youâve ever had, and thatâs saying something.â
You pouted. âCome on, itâs not that bad â the railings are sturdy, we wonât fall.â
Riki firmly shook his head. âNope. You want to climb it? Be my guest. But donât tell me I didnât warn you when you fall off and possibly break your leg. Or an arm. Or crack open your skull. Either way, I will say âI told you soâ.â
You rolled your eyes, beginning to climb it up. âOh shut up â Iâm sure you would love to goad about it, if I fell off. You revel in my misery after all, donât youâ?â
You got cut off by a yelp of your own, your hand slipping. Riki immediately came to your rescue, pulling you off the railing. In complete and utter fear of the sudden momentary lapse of judgement that almost caused you to fall off the roof, you turned around, hugging him tightly.
He held you close, wrapping his own arms around your waist. He could feel your heart beating erratically in your chest, matching his own. He couldnât believe how stupid and unaware of your surroundings you were.
He glared down at how you buried your head in his chest, in disbelief of your previous actions. You were shaking slightly in his hands, but he didnât care. âAre you fucking insane?! You knew that was dangerous, why on earth would you still try to climb the damned railings? For the love of god, you could have fallen off and died!â
You meekly raised your head, preparing to retort, before freezing. He was so, so close. You could make out every single detail on his face, every freckle, every pore, every single blemish. Yet, he was so⌠mesmerizing.
Rikiâs heart skipped a beat as he looked down at you. His voice took a softer edge, a gentle note evident in it. âPromise me that you will neverâŚâ
Too lost in his eyes, you didnât hear him. His voice and every other noise faded to the background, your sole focus being on his eyes. They were pulling you in, drowning you in them. Like a siren luring an unsuspecting victim.
Your lips parted slightly, as you kept staring at him, his warm breath fanning your face. He swallowed hard, realizing exactly how close you were. The adrenaline pumping in his veins was fucking with his head, thoughts of what your lips would feel like against his filling his mind. His eyes flickered down to your parted lips, the urge growing, before they quickly darted back up to your eyes, meeting your gaze once again. âPromise me.â
The words seemed to be stuck in your throat, which suddenly felt parched. âIâŚâ
His breath hitched, eyes fixed on your parted lips once again. His heart was still racing, the world seeming to narrow down to just the two of you, standing flush together on the roof. âYouâŚâ He whispered, leaning just a fraction closer without realizing it. âYou what?â It came out softer than intended, just a barely audible murmur.
You swiped your tongue over your bottom lip, wetting it with your saliva. The words tumbled out of your mouth, without you even realizing it. âGod, youâre so prettyâŚâ
Rikiâs world seemed to stop, his mind going blank. His grip on your waist tightened slightly. âWhat did you say?â He whisper-hissed, leaning just a tad bit closer. His gaze flickered down to your lips again. The shift in the atmosphere around the two of you was becoming impossible to ignore, becoming electric with unsaid words and unacted-upon impulses.
You blinked, biting down on your lip. There was no going back now. âYouâre prettyâŚâ
His heart skipped a beat, then another, then another. He could barely believe what he was hearing â no one had ever called him âprettyâ before. Sure, he had heard other words: handsome, attractive, stunning, eye-catching â but âprettyâ? Never did he hear that one before. But damn, he would be lying if he said it didnât make his heart race â probably more than the other praises ever did. It was a word typically reserved for women, but hearing it from you directed towards him? It made his brain short-circuit.
He asked you again, just to confirm. âPretty?â
You nodded, no longer scared of his reaction. âVery much so.â
He felt his cheeks flush again at the unusual comment. He was blushing, and he never blushed. But everything seemed to be different when he was around you.
His mind was reeling, as he tried to process this new information. You, his best friend, thought he was pretty. He leaned even closer, his lips just a hair breath away from yours now. âYou really think Iâm pretty?â He whispered, his voice just barely audible.
You gulped, nodding. âYea â yea, I do.â
His heart started pounding rapidly in his chest, his breathing shallow. He could feel the heat radiating off your body, the closeness of your lips, the way you were looking up at him. It was starting to all fade out into white noise, the sound of his rapidly beating heart in his ears. His eyes zeroed in on your parted lips, and something in him snapped.
Throwing all rational thought out of the window, he closed the barely there gap between your both, softly pressing his lips to yours. Your lips were as soft as a cloud, feeling pillowy against his. The kiss was brief, barely more than a whisper. It was nothing more than a peck, but it was enough to make his heart jump out of his chest, into his throat. When he pulled back, his eyes were as wide as saucers, surprised by his own boldness. âIââ
You didnât let him complete his sentence. You grabbed his face, cupping it with both hands, pulling his face towards yours again. You kissed him again, with a lot more vigour, pouring out your pent up feelings into the kiss.
He was caught off guard by the sudden intensity of the kiss, but he melted into it. His hands pulled you even closer, as if trying to meld your body into his. He parted his lips, deepening the kiss, as he felt your arms wrap around his neck, pulling you even closer.
One of his hands came up to your face, cupping it, tilting his own to further deepen the kiss. The lack of air was starting to hurt, despite how addicting your lips were. He pulled back slowly, not before gently biting down on your bottom lip, pulling it between his teeth, before letting go of it with a pop.
You felt a little dazed, but still smiled up at him, your eyes slightly hazy and unfocused. He chuckled at your state, planting a kiss on top of your head. âPretty, huh?â
Your cheeks grew warmer at the teasing undertone in his voice. âShut up. I meant it, you know.â
His grin grew wider, as he kissed your cheek. âI know. I hope this is a good time to say that I like you? Like, I really fucking like you, I was just scared to confess because of the recent situation⌠with the excessive teasing and all⌠and, well, the fear of rejection.â
You hit his arm. âYou silly goose â if I didnât like you back, do you think I would behave the way I do with you? Absolutely not. Youâre lucky I put up with your antics, you know.â
He rolled his eyes, although there was a smile on his face, one which he didnât bother hiding. âYou know, the hair tie was just a ploy? I just wanted any potential suitors to back off of you, but I didnât expect people to react like⌠that.â
You let out a giggle. âI figured. It was honestly a really cute, albeit smart move on your part. Certainly made everyone back off⌠only to approach us with a different reason.â
He smiled down at you, his expression utterly lovesick. His eyes were practically resembling hearts. âDâyou think if we announced it officially they would finally stop?â
You shrugged. âProbably not. Hopefully yes. But â in order to make it official, you need to ask me first, you know? Learn to be a gentleman, Riki.â The last bit was just you teasing him, something that he caught on to pretty quickly.
He playfully rolled his eyes, before speaking theatrically. âFine â would you like to do the honour of becoming my girlfriend, ___? Wait no, scratch that â would you make me the happiest man alive by letting me take the position of your boyfriend?â
You scoffed in amusement at his dramatics, before pretending to think. âTake me out on a date first, then I will think of it.â
He gave you a smug grin, a determined glint in his eyes. âDeal.â

With the holidays on the horizon, your afternoons are filled with preparations for Wadeâs annual holiday party. With baking and cookie decorating, finishing up wrapping presents - and maybe even a little Christmas miracle, when you find yourself running into a familiar face.
"What?"
It slips from you, as your eyebrows shoot up - glancing down at the piece of cardstock. Before you're adding -
"Why?"
Wade huffs, his finger tapping against the text that loops across the top.
"Don't give me that, Sugar. I spent ages picking out the right font, I know the contrast is enough for you to read it clearly."
And he's right. You can definitely read it, even without the coarse coat of glitter making the headline sparkle.
âSpread Some Christmas Cheerâ
The letters arching above a photo of Wade. His suit on, of course, as he lounges across the lap of what appears to be a mall Santa. Dread in the manâs once-twinkling blue eyes, as one of Wadeâs legs drapes across the velvet red suit, the other kicked high against the back of the padded red chair.
âWith Wade Wilson's Winter Wonderlandâ in script beneath - with dates and time for his party listed below.
"I can definitely read it," You acknowledge, "I was just asking what, as in what made you take this, and maybe even where, because-"
"Oh," He chuckles, "Yeah, I'm absolutely banned from JCPenney, but worth it, right? This is my best-looking card yet."
You can't help the smile, "It's definitely something."
He grins, "So, you'll come? I heard there might be a certain someone there."
"Is that right?" Your tongue pokes against your cheek.
"Mhmm. Pretty sure he sees you when you're sleeping. Definitely know if you've been naughty or nice, and I know for a fact I've seen you in his lap-"
There's a sound of disgust, as your nose wrinkles, "Okay, can you not talk about Logan that way? I don't need a Santa comparison in my head."
"Just thought I'd spice some things up for you. It's nothing to be ashamed of, we've all had a crush on the big man."
"On who?" There's a rough voice behind you - Logan hand fisted around the fleece jacket tugged from the back of the armchair.
"He knows what I'm talking about," Wade points, "I'm just saying, if Santa needs help handling that sack of his, I'm so fucking down."
"Jesus fucking Christ." An arm curls around you, as Logan glances at the invite, "Wait, this is this weekend?"
"Yes, this weekend," Wade sniffs, "We talked about it yesterday."
"Wasn't home yesterday." Logan's eyebrow cocks, "Or the day before."
"Well, I talked about it with somebody." Wade shrugs - another tapped finger at the bottom of the card, "Anyways, blah, blah, blah. Itâs all here, proper name, place name, backstory stuff... just be there, because I know where you live-"
"We'll be there." You interrupt, biting back your smile, "Want me to bring anything?"
Wade's look turns pleased, and then thoughtful, "Well, I was going to get some cookies from Yeastie Boys Bakery..."
The words trailing off, as you groan - already so over the new bakery in town, their stupid jingle and 'viral' cupcakes that taste like shit.
"Don't even talk to me about them."
You can feel the way Logan's hands brace on your shoulder. The low, "he's kidding sweetheart-" rumbled in your ear.
"Guilty." Wade's hands spread wide, "Was just trying to rile you up into offering some of your own splendid wares. Al still talks about the ones you brought over last year. If itâs not too much workâŚ"
The sentence trails off, as he bats his brown, pleading, puppy-dog eyes at you.
"Lead with that next time, asshole." Logan sighs.
"It's not." You answer automatically, though you're already mentally running through your schedule.
The presents you still have to wrap. The loose ends of Wade's gift that you still have to weave in. Another trip to the grocery store, for certain - you'll have to bake at home, since it's a favor.
There's a kiss pressed to your temple, as Logan moves around you.
"I know that look. Don't push too hard, honey." He finishes shrugging on his jacket, "Iâll see if Laura and I can help you out tomorrow."
Wade's voice chiming in, âAnd let it be known I am formally offering to help, but-â
You huff, âThank you, but youâre still banned from my kitchen, Wade.â
Still not over the surprise of your gingerbread appearing with piped anatomically correct additions, after you had left him unsupervised last year.
The kiss goodbye you share with Logan lingers, a grateful press of your mouth against his. Wondering what you did to deserve such a man, still ready to pinch yourself every day.
A look in his eyes that matches yours, as he steps around Wade, who still lingers.
"Thanks, Sugar." He grins, "And remember - you better be good for goodness sake-"
You groan, as you shove him out the door. Logan's fingers curling around the collar of Wadeâs jacket, the other tugging at the handle.
Unable to help adding your usual farewell, âBe careful out there, okay? Come back safe.â
Not that they need it, not with their powers. But it still feels like a charm, tucked carefully into their pockets as they head out together again - off on a new mission.
"Iâll take care of your Sugar Bear.â It's sung out, muffled behind the closed door. âLove you byeee!"
A sigh, as you shake your head.
Guess you have some work to do.
Your pen marks another item off your list, as you inch your cart through the too-busy grocery store.
Itâs already half-filled with other last-minute items. Another couple gifts, now that official date of the party looms on the horizon - you canât leave Peter, Ellie, and Yukio out, after all.
A new decorative Christmas plate for the cookies - you had lost yours in the impromptu disc golf match that Wade hosted at the apartment last year.
Last you heard, it was still on the roof next door.
Molasses, brown sugar, and spices for gingerbread. A fresh box of food coloring, for the sugar cookies - you were out of red, from last year as well.
A pack of powdered sugar drops down into your cart. Reaching for a second, just as another hand bumps against yours.
Twin apologies chime, as your eyes flick to the side.
Instantly recognizing the woman next to you - the sheepish look on your face cooling.
âOh.â Her eyes widen in recognition, âHey.â
âHi, Vanessa.â You offer a half-smile - the last dregs of your annoyance with Wade vanishing, as you rest the second bag on top of the other.
A beat, before you manage, âHow are you?â
âGood. Office party,â She wiggles her own bag, before it slips into the basket at her elbow, âYou?â
âUm, Iâm good, too.â You shrug, âAnd no, uh⌠friendâs party.â
Wade seemed mostly over the disaster that happened close to two months ago. More prone to forgiving and forgetting - gracious, in a way that you could be, when you wanted. That you were, most of the time.
After all, it was easier, to let something slide off your back when it came to a personal grudge. You could be an adult and move on, then.
But it was still hard to forget how crushed Wade had been. How you knew that she knew he had been cooking for her the night she stood him up- a drunken confession that he had seen the notification that she had watched the stories he had snapped for his social media stories.
And even if he was over it, you werenât sure you were.
âWadeâs party?â She guesses, and it makes you blink.
Wondering when and how she had been invited. As far as you knew, her name hadnât passed his lips in weeks.
âYeah.â Your eyes search hers - the tightness in them, how she bites the inside of her cheek, âAre⌠you?â
âUndecided,â Her lips lift. A breath, before sheâs asking, âHowâs he been lately? Is heâŚâ
You canât help the small frown, a mark deepening between your brows, âHeâs good.â
A half-truth, before you tack a little more on, âSure heâs appreciating the extra space. Fixed Al up with a Murphy bed, and Loganâs been staying with me a lot lately.â
âOh. I thought-â Vanessaâs sentence trails off.
She looks lost for a moment. A glance downward, picking at the manicured edge of a nail.
You havenât seen her like this before. Too used to her confidence, those sharp edges that you lack.
Pity flickers through you.
âI really have to go. If I donât start these soon, Iâll be up all night.â
It comes out apologetic - and you realize, you actually mean it, âBut why donât you swing by my apartment in a bit? Iâm gonna be baking all afternoon, but I make a mean boozy hot chocolate.â
The look she gives you is tinged with relief.
Itâs enough to make you wonder what youâre missing.
âWait, what?â You yelp - for the second time, in forty-eight hours.
Thereâs a smudge of flour on your sweater. Holiday music pouring through the speaker on your counter. Vanessa carefully inching the gingerbread cutouts an inch apart.
A shoulder lifting, as she repeats herself, âI said I thought he moved on. With you.â
Not knowing, with the way she had come late to the party where you had met Logan. Left early, with her new corporate schedule.
You almost over-pour the ground cinnamon into the second batch. Tipping it back into the jar, as you let the spoon clatter against the counter. Her head tilts, at your expression.
âYou havenât thought about it? I know youâre both close.â
In another world, perhaps.
Another life - one where you hadnât met Logan when you did. Hadnât spent months cheering Wade on, those once barely-there flickers of interest fading to something solidly platonic some time ago.
Your head shakes, the words coming slowly, âItâs always been you, Vanessa. Everyone knows that.â
The corner of her lips lift. Fingernails tapping against the aluminum pan.
âI thought so, too.â
You frown, âIs that why didnât you show? When he asked you over for dinner?â
Vanessa laughs then, rueful.
âThe dinner.â Her eyes flick away, going back to a memory - a beat, before the snap to yours, âYeah. I wanted to go. I uh, just split with Dermot. From work.â
You nod, remembering - overhearing the conversation at Wadeâs birthday.
âHe wanted me to move in. Said he saw a future with me, but when it came down to taking that stepâŚâ Her lips press together, the lift of a shoulder, âIâve never seen myself with anyone else. Only him.â
Only Wade.
âBut⌠then I saw you with him. The stories he posted. The two of you cooking, dressed up like a date.â It comes in a rush, âI thought, incorrectly, apparently-â
âHe was cooking for you.â Thereâs a furrow in your brow, trying to piece together the way she saw it.
The sundress you wore for Logan. The captions that tipped towards lewd that you had tried to get him to delete - jokes about âgetting luckyâ, or the chicken not the only thing âbeing stuffed tonightâ.
She nods, âIâm getting that now.â
âI think you still should have gone.â Itâs starting to make sense, but you canât help the reproach in your tone, âHe was devastated.â
The look she shoots you is defensive. Vanessa had always carried an intensity you lacked, and you take the full brunt of it now. Your fingers curl into fists for strength, not letting your gaze drop first. A beat, before she nods.
âI guess itâs just become easier to run.â Vanessa admits, âDefense mechanism. Get out first. Ironic, I know.â
You frown, not knowing, âHas that⌠has that happened before?â
âWhich time?â Her laugh is close to a scoff, as she sighs.
Your eyes drop now, as you go back to your work. Back to measuring, tipping the spices into your mixer. The words coming slowly.
âHe hasnât told me a lot. Just a bit about last time. AboutâŚâ You search for the words, feeling guilty. âAbout him not doing enough. That you wanted him to do something meaningful, and then the stuff with the Avengers, andâŚâ
The words die, when you see her face.
Sorrow and anger, with the sharp shake of her head, âI never gave a damn about the Avengers. That was all Wade.â
A sigh, as she collects herself.
âI just wanted him to find his passion again. He changed⌠a few years ago. Something happened, a really close call. He fixed it, but he wasnât the same after.â
A breath, before she adding, âHe took it hard. Guilt, I think. All I really wanted was for him to talk to me. To let me help him, but he never let me in because he didnât want me getting hurt again. He shut down, and stopped talking to me.â
The mixer hums. A beep of your timer, as the minutes tick down.
âYou know Wade. Always has a joke ready. Never wants to get serious if he can help it. Itâs stupid, but we... drifted.â Vanessaâs throat bobs as she swallows, âI was dealing with my own shit, and when he pushed me away, it reminded me of last time.â
She catches your expression again, as the dough tips out of the bowl. The furrow of your brow, as you swap it for a chilled portion in your fridge.
âItâs been a recurring theme,â It comes out blunt.
Her look turning considering, then, when the frown doesn't waver.
âDo you love Logan?â
The rolling pin slips in your grip. Pressing too hard, denting dough.
âI-,â You breathe. The question unexpected, leaving you wholly unprepared, even as your heart beats out the answer.
Her expression softens, âYou care about him.â
You nod mutely.
âWhat would you do, if Logan just - disappeared? No trace of him, just gone in the night?â
Her question hangs. A physical ache in your chest at the mere thought, one that leaves you unable to breathe. Pieces starting to click together - little bits of what you know, forming some sort of photo.
âIs that what Wade did?â
She nods, âIt was right after his cancer diagnosis. He was going through a lot, and just - left. For years. I thought⌠I thought he had died. I mourned him. It crushed me.â
You canât help but reach across the table - hesitant, in the way you squeeze her arm.
She lets you, a look shot your way. Defending him, unable to help it.
âI get it, though. I get that it was a lot. Iâve forgiven him. ButâŚâ Her teeth pinch at her cheek, that guilt coming back, âWhen he started pulling away, I thought it was happening again. I couldnât live through that again.â
You finish for her, âSo you left first.â
She nods.
Silence lingers. Nails tapping on the countertop, fiddling with the silver rings on her fingers. The heat of the oven curling across your arms, as you swap one tray for another. Setting it aside to cool.
âYou should go talk to him.â Your voice cracks through the quiet, when you turn - hands bracing against the counter.
Her eyebrows raise, âAnd say what?â
âTell him what you told me. That you were just scared.â Your voice softens, âHe invited you to his party because he still *wants* you in his life.â
She blinks, silent.
âIâll help you,â You coax, âLoganâs already coming over tonight.â
Your eyes flick down to your phone, checking, âUh, really soon, actually. Iâll go next door with you, and bring Althea back with me. Give you two some time to catch up.â
Vanessaâs fingers cards through her hair - pushing back the long strands, the words coming slowly, âI donât knowâŚâ
âWade is crazy about you.â It comes out bluntly, and itâs this that pulls her attention.
Youâre already swiping a container off the counter. Filling the bottom with sugar cookies baked this morning - cut into trees and mittens, decorated with buttercream and sprinkles.
The lid snaps on, as you hold it out to her.
âTrust me?â
Her eyes meet yours, and you can see the swirl of emotions across her face.
You smile and finally - she nods.
She follows a step behind, as you leave the apartment. The hallway chilly, the entrance bringing in a dusting of snow across the carpet, with the revolving holiday traffic.
The closing front door downstairs echoes with your own, as you head the next apartment over. Knuckles rapping against the wood, fingers mentally crossed.
A voice ringing out, muffled, âIf youâre part of Rudolph and the Red-Hot Reindeers, youâre a day early-â
Opening to reveal Wade, dressed down in a shirt and sweatpants with his Deadpool logo patterned across them.
âOh, hey Sugar.â He smiles, âWhatâs up?â
âWell,â You stall for a second, trying to figure out what exactly to say, âIs Althea home? Was wondering if she could help me with something.â
Wade chuckles.
âFat fucking chance, sheâs two episodes into the Golden Bachelor right now and sheâs sure as hell not moving-â The words die out as Vanessa moves into view, the container in hand.
He goes silent, for the first time you can remember.
âI have the same streaming apps as you, Iâm sure I can convince her.â Your shift - a hand touching at her shoulder, urging her forward, âAnd maybe you could do me a favor, too. Taste test these for tomorrow?â
For a moment, you think he doesnât hear you. His eyes lingering on Vanessa, his face bleeding from surprise to confusion to hope, as he takes her in.
âYeah.â He manages after a long moment - clearing his throat.
âYeah. Iâd love to.â
It doesnât take much convincing, not with the way Al enjoys a cup of piping hot tea as much as you do - along with the promise she can watch her beloved show in peace. Almost giddy in the way she makes for the door, cane in hand and Dogpool tucked in the crook of her other arm.
The door just shutting behind you before sheâs hissing, âWhat in Godâs name was that?â
You shush her, eyes flicking back towards the apartment. Almost jumping out of your skin when itâs followed by another voice, this one pitched low.
âSeconded. Busy afternoon?â
Logan leans against the wall, Laura expression clear with the pull of her brows. Thirded.
âSomething like that.â You herd them inside your apartment, before they can be overheard - not that Wade was listening, youâre sure.
The door is barely shut, before theyâre rounding on you. Your own hands on your hips - a nod directing them towards the kitchen table, laden with bare gingerbread cookies.
Al tucked in the armchair, spun around the face the bustle of the kitchen, her show long forgotten.
âYouâre stalling.â Laura points out bluntly, as you hand her the bag of icing.
Your tongue tucked against your teeth, as you shoot Logan a look. His eyebrows raised in response, eyes sliding over to the brick wall that separates your apartment from Wade.
âIâm not,â The word strings out, âItâs just, like, itâs not a big deal, right?â
She scoffs.
Altheaâs cane taps the ground, âSomething happened, and youâd better spill.â
âAlright,â Your fingers spread in front of you, âI ran into Vanessa at the store today. And we got to talking, and I invited her back here. I think she regrets what happened between them.â
Thereâs a snort of derision, and you can feel yourself starting to bristle.
âWe all have our opinions, myself included-â You allow, as another noise interrupts you - lower and more gruff this time. You spin, shooting Logan another look.
âBut I think she was genuine. Iâve certainly had my fair share of⌠miscommunications,â His expressions softens at your words, the corner of his lips curling as you shift to face Al.
âAnd I got some really good advice once from someone. Something about âtalking about itâ, and thatâs what I encouraged her to do.â
âHope youâre right,â Al sighs- but thereâs a smile there, hidden in the way her lips press together, âThat boy is more sensitive than my left tit in a snowstorm.â
âJesus.â Itâs muttered, at your shoulder. Loganâs head shaking as he joins Laura, the hint of a smirk as she works on piping a set of angry eyebrows.
Your eyes roll, âI am.â
Spinning back to face the table, as you grab your own bag of frosting.
âAfter all, itâs Christmas,â You canât help but throw her way, from over your shoulder.
âAnd isnât that the best time for a miracle?â
Loganâs arms wrap around you later, as you snap the last lid in place. Finally done with your last-minute idea - decorating each of the gingerbread to look like your friends.
Laura slipping out a few minutes ago, intent on staying until the end. Just as determined as Logan to see things through, even though you tried to get her to leave a few times - worried about the weather, the long drive back to the mansion.
The slight smile as her eyes rolled - with your affection towards her, you forget how impervious she is.
Althea long asleep in the couch, the quilt Loganâs borrowed so many nights before tucked around her. Ambient holiday music still pouring through the speaker, your attempt to drown out the enthusiastic reunion taking place next door.
Canât bring yourself to mind. More relieved than anything.
And you deserve it, you suppose.
âYou did a good thing.â Itâs murmured into your hair, as you finally relax into him.
Arms curling beneath his, wrapping around his broad back to embrace him. You hum with contentment as his lips brush your temple.
âDonât know if I can manage a miracle,â His lips curve when you lean back, eyes flicking up to meet his, âBut if there anything else you might want for Christmas?â
Your teeth sink into your lip, as you grin.
The answer is easy, as your face tips towards his.
âJust want more time with you.â
Logan huffs, as his hand dips down. Cupping soft flesh, kneading - as he tugs you the rest of the way. A grin, just before his mouth presses against yours.
âMm. Hope you donât mind celebrating a little early, then.â
Red and green have exploded in the apartment next door - the flamingo lights that spill from the kitchen replaced with blinking bulbs. A tree that youâre truly unsure how it fit through the door, much less the narrow hallway, tucked in the corner.
You and Logan had helped decorate it earlier in the month - Wade directing from the couch, as the two of you and Althea arranged the ornaments. A ninja star zip-tied to the top, but with the lights turned low, and the swirl of snow coming down outside - itâs cozy.
Itâs familiar - faces youâve come to know well, known to love, fill the space. The cookies are a hit, sweet exclamations as they find the ones that represent them. Woolen and knitted sweaters, bodies tucked together on a hodgepodge of surfaces.
And perhaps, you do end up on Loganâs lap. His thighs spread wide in an armchair Wade found on the curb, out of place against the brick walls and industrial windows with its floral pattern.
Your eyes meeting Wadeâs from across the living room, anticipating the tease.
But he only smiles back.
Something soft - an arm slung around Vanessaâs shoulder. The âwhite elephant in the roomâ, as he had cheekily alluded to it, addressed with a carefully placed piece of mistletoe.
Side-eyes and stunned silence easing into smiles, when you all saw the way they looked at each other.
And when he corners you to tell you thank you, you know the bone-crushing hug is not just for the handmade red-and-black beanie and scarf that you had gotten up early to finish for him.
The rest of your gifts donât quite reach the same level, but youâre pleased all the same. Lauraâs smile shy as she tries on the Docs you caught her eyeing, ankle twisting as her eyes dip down.
Loganâs arm tightening around your waist when you hand him the wrapped package. His eyes lingering on yours until the paper is loosened, a pleased hum when he sees the lined leather jacket you picked out for him.
âYour first winter with us in New York,â You smile, âCanât have you catching cold.â
Something to keep in warm, when he tinkers on the bike stashed in the basement. To protect him, when heâs not in his suit. Better than that the faded fleece heâs lifted from Wadeâs closet.
And even though youâd been fairly certain heâd given you your gift last night - and again this morning - thereâs still a pretty card tucked into your palm. A piece of paper folded inside, next to sentiments that made heat rise to your cheeks.
A photo printed out - a cozy little cabin, the roof lined with snow. Framed with a thick ring of woods and surrounded by wilderness. The reservation dates and details marked out in the text below.
âA vacation?â You canât remember the last time youâve been away. Excitement surging at the thought of spending a week tucked away with your boyfriend, âFor us?â
âYeah, sweetheart.â Logan husks, âFound a nice little place up north. Just you and me.â
His fingers flex against your waist, his face tipping up to yours, âWould you like that?â
âIâd love that.â You smile.
You love him.
Youâre certain of that - a name for that warm weight in your chest thatâs been there for weeks. Since the beginning really, coming to a full flourish with the conversation the day before.
Maybe with the turn of the new year, youâll pluck up enough courage to tell him.
For now, you beam at him. Pressing yourself close - entwining fingers that squeeze. Hoping he can read the soft look you give him, the words murmured out, in the little bubble youâve found yourselves in.
âMerry Christmas, Logan.â
His thumb brushes your cheek, before he tugs you down to meet him.
âMerry Christmas, Sugar.â
after part iii, i could not leave our bff wade with a sad ending!!! đ for a little bit early on i toyed with the idea of making this series a poly one (before come on and show me) hence a couple little references throughout (and the reason to keep the breakup in the first place) (which I still have beef with in the movie, BUT I did my best). thank you for checking out this series, it might be one of my favorite things Iâve had the pleasure to work on and seeing the love on it has been so amazing đ

Binary gender expression is also how many people approximate their relationship with Hierarchy and Authority.
Hey. Put down the rock. I'm not talking about Gender Abolitionists pretending that 'men' is a cohesive non-intersectional Ruling Sex Caste.
I am talking about how even before we get into social failure or success, people are using gender to sus out where they are in the room. If they feel secure or not where they are on the hierarchy. Beyond 'who at a glance can be expected to be steamrolled in conversation, do dishes, based on binary gender', there are distinctions within gender itself. Two women of the same race express femininity, but one appears more working class-- gender becomes the place where that distinction is expressed.
(I have read that there's a similar security issue when it comes to 'dressing too white/dressing too black' among black people in the USA but you will have to go find a primary source-- I just want to note that gender isn't the ONLY space where this happens)
Some of the most overt hierarchies to observe happen at work. Examples!
Two men of the same race work at the same company, look similar, and both even wear business suits at the office. But one of them is an employee, and the other one is the boss. Work in an office of this type and you will know right away that Professional Attire does not equalize a sense of status regardless of if the boss's attitude is 'old fashioned' or not. And the way that status will be performed is going to be via gender performance even if both men are already 'performing' in their Workwear.
Super-lax dress expectations at a trendy startup hide the immense gaps between the CEO, the computer engineers, and the barely-paid overhead staff. Hiding this directly benefits authority. And what even counts as 'lax' is strongly gendered. Which interns will be okay wearing jeans and a t-shirt? Probably the male ones, but among the girls there are definitely distinctions in who is 'unprofessional' and who is 'casual', based on other forms of hierarchy.
Gender-neutrality, androgyny, crossdressing, certain kinds of alt fashion, nonbinary presentation totally fuck up these invisible status calculations. Status itself is not corporeal; it needs mediums like race, gender, class markers, etc. to be seen. The social punishments @thecottageinthedark describes have a LOT to do with people FREAKING OUT when they can't.
This is where accusations that queer people are smug, arrogant, self-superior come from by the way btw. These negative stereotypes are not just tar and feathers; it's the fear one will be subordinated if they can't understand everything about you At a Glance.
When I describe people feeling insecure ths way, I don't just mean the maximum brain worms cases, 'I WILL transvestigate everyone in this starbucks,' I also mean you and me, your mom, other people, all of us.
It is extremely hard to actively believe in radical, complete equality every hour of every day when we meet every person. Because that equality means that others are free to think and treat you like whatever. Gender isn't inherently the medium for The Social Contract. But the terror of failing at gender many people feel is pretty much the same as terror at said contract being revoked and to be subjected to violent authority.
Was explaining some gender things to a straight cis friend today vis a vis gender presentation VS gender identity when it suddenly dawned on me with much the same horror as getting to work and realizing you left the stove on, that unless you've been immersed in a queer culture for some time you'd have no way of knowing that appearing androgynous/indeterminate/wildly gender-nonconforming is HOT
#which is why trans rights are human rights beyond the obvious thing that trans people are human#its emancipation#if something is a failure state then its enforced or is the means of enforcing something else#the something else is hierarchy

big sister - hyun ju
summary; a big sister will always protect, but when will she be able to relax?
genre/extra tags; one shot, found family, fluff, hurt/comfort?, canon typical violence, i dont like the second season writing, but i can not deny myself this diva, that's mother !!, teen! reader, hyun ju is the only reason i decided to watch this season, slight canon divergence bc i have the mind of a goldfish, canon typical sad heavy conversations, big sister is written to be seen as the korean honorific "unnie", older sister moments written in the point of view of a younger sibling, unintentional love letter for my appreciation to my sister, reader is implied to be some form of lgbt but not out (im projecting)
[platonic] [gender-neutral reader]
[warning; mentions of transphobic ideas]
a/n; before people ask, no, im not doing requests for this show. i just don't feel fully comfortable writing for squid game. i just really wanted to write this because, believe it or not, i write for my enjoyment. even i do switch off here every few months or every other month.
dinner had rolled around after an intense "game" of life or death. how you managed to survive this long is beyond you. but you might have a strong idea of why you're living so long, and it was the strong woman who was sitting beside you with some of the other women who were surviving so far.
the old lady had pointed out that hyun ju was not like other people. and it really was odd to her. but hyun ju was used to that. more than used to it. she lived through it since she decided to come out.
you listen to the conversation, not really putting your two cents in as it seemed like there was no right time to butt in. but as the conversation continued, the mood was just a little lighter. and that was more than enough morale. the old lady seemed to slowly understand hyun ju and her struggle.
you've zoned out so much, you almost fail to notice hyun ju sneaking an egg onto your shabby given lunch box meal. you look up at her as she gives you a warm look before pretending that she didn't just do that.
you mix the rice with not much thought, spilling some bits of rice and egg over its metal container before you slowly eat. unbeknownst to you, hyun ju glances back at you as if to make sure you're actually eating and not staring off with a tired look that no teen or child should have. you've seen everything, you're part of this sick game, she may not know your story, but she knows you don't deserve any of the bad you've been through.
you're the youngest in the entire room, a room filled with people with insurmountable debt and issues. hyun ju can only imagine your worry, your anxiety, the burden.
when the first game got serious, you were trying your damned hardest to keep your fear contained under the watchful eye of that robot scanning every movement. she was right in front of you, keeping you safe along with the rest of the people who lined up with her. you look like you wanted to cry the moment you got to the finish line. if she wasn't full of adrenaline at the time, she probably would've heard how hard your heart was beating.
somehow, she had taken two people under her care. you and young-mi. how could she not care about a young woman like young-mi and a teen like yourself? two anxious people forced to live a life full of debt and pain when you both deserved nothing but comfort and love.
people start lining up in their beds for nighttime. gi-hun was very insistent on being careful at night. it was dangerous. some people were not behind just killing others at night to sweeten the pot of money that loomed over everyone's head like a golden sun.
as most of the adults started to climb in their beds, you stand awkwardly. you weren't a stranger to sleeping a room full of people, but you were definitely a little paranoid after what gi-hun was talking about.
you find yourself naturally gravitating to hyun ju. her presence was just so calming, and she was so caring for others. it was hard not to get attached. young-mi had taken to calling her big sister. and you found yourself doing the same when you call out to her softly.
"big sister?" you gently tap at her arm as she turns to look at you. she silently urges you to continue speaking with a gentle look. you can see the tired in her eyes, but she looks at you, unwilling to say no. "this is embarrassing..." you mutter.
"it's okay. i'm here." she reassures you.
"can i stay with you tonight? i'm-" you choke a little bit on your words, not only out of embarrassment but fear. "i'm really scared. i don't wanna be alone." you confess.
she softens, "i would love to let you, but it's too risky. if people come for us, it would be very hard to fight back. i'm so sorry, kid." she opens her arm out for a hug, and you take the comfort you can get in this shitty place. "i will do my best to keep you safe, alright? when we get out of here, i'm going to find you again, and we can help each other, yeah? i'll protect you."
you nodded with her words, not finding the heart to say anything. she takes this as a sign to start guiding you into your bunk bed on top. at least the top bunks would be somewhat safer for you. you hesitantly climb into bed. "if a fight breaks out, hide. run. just be safe. i will find you, and you'll be safe." she continues to reassure you the best she can.
"okay. goodnight big sister." you whispered. "please be safe."
"i will." she said with a calm confidence that only she could pull off that didn't make you feel worried for her.
you hope that you get out of here, so you don't have to see the worried exhaustion in her eyes anymore.
she was a big sister by heart and soul. you just hoped her big heart wouldn't lead her to her doom. she protects and gives, but when will she relax?

LOVE the way you write nerd!rafe 𼚠could we see their first date like after the âgiving nerd!rafe head for the first timeâ fic you did ?!
first date
A/N: IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE.
Warnings: all fluff!
NERD!RAFE MASTERLIST
Honestly, when you agreed to go out on a date right after having sex with him, you didnât know what you expected. But whatever it is, it definitely wasnât this. You didnât expect it to be so⌠perfect.
A beach date wasnât exactly a typical first date. But, it sounded extremely fun. It was different and unique, something about it had your stomach fluttering. Why were you so nervous? Youâre his tuttee, youâve literally talked to him countless times.
You put your earrings in, smoothing down your sundress as you stood up. You had your bikini on under it, just incase you did want to go in the water.
Your phone vibrated on your bed, with a little text from Rafe.
rafe (super cute tutor guy)
Hey, Iâm here.
You typed a quick message back,
âbe down in a sec!â
He replied with, âTake your time.â A small smile made its way onto your face, hearting the message and putting your phone in your little crotchet bag. You just pulled on some simple slides, not bothering with it.
You went down your stairs, taking a breath before opening the door up. You saw Rafes car sitting there, him messing with the ring on his finger in the drivers seat. He looked up to see you, giving you a soft smile as you hopped into the passengers seat.
âHi.â He spoke, you turning to look at him back with a smile.
âHi.â You spoke rather shyly, swallowing the lump that began to form in your throat. You were usually so confident, so why were you so nervous?
âYou look⌠really beautiful.â
âThank you. You do too.â You replied, before realizing how weird it sounded. âI meant.. you look handsome. Not beautiful-â
He laughed, âThank you.â
His eyes lingered on you for a moment, before turning his car on, and beginning the drive to the beach.
âSo, uhm, what made you pick the beach?â You asked him when he started to drive, him shrugging his shoulders, pursing his lips together.
âWell, itâs nice out. And I didnât like- I feel like you deserved better than some boring dinner date.â He began to stammer out, you smiling at his words. âI didnât even know if it was good, but-â
âNo, no, it is. I like it. ThatâsâŚvery sweet of you.â You hummed, him glancing at you with his lips turned up.
âIâm glad you like it.â He said, letting out a quiet sigh of relief.
You gave him a smile, him glancing back at you while he turned up the radio, rolling down the window as you approached downtown, and drove closer to the beach.
âAlright,â he spoke when he parked the car in a spot, âI just gotta get the stuff from the back.â He told you, opening up his car door, you doing the same.
You stood, watching as he opened up the truck bed, grabbing the towels, along with a large bag.
âYou got it?â You asked him with a giggle when you saw him struggle to balance everything in his arms and close the trunk bed, him laughing at his own struggles.
âMaybe not.â He replied sheepishly, you going to his side and helping him close the trunk bed.
âThanks.â He told you with a small smile, still carrying everything in his arms.
âMhm.â You hummed, beginning to walk in front of him, and making your way to the beach, him following behind you.
As soon as you found a spot, you grabbing a towel from his hands, putting it down onto the sand. He had a small smile when he put down the bags and sat down next to you, offering you a water bottle.
âThank you.â You smiled at him, not thinking when you leaned in to press your lips to his cheek. His cheeks turned crimson, mouth going slightly agape.
âY-yeah.â was the only thing he could reply with, sitting down next to you, breaking off a piece of bread.
âItâs really nice out today.â He commented in his best attempt to make small talk, you nodding and laughing in agreement.
âIt is.â You replied, glancing at him with a smile tugging at the corners of your lips.
The both of you talked, ate and laughed for what felt like hours, but was really only 40 minutes. You enjoyed talking to him, more than you thought you would.
âUhm⌠do you wanna take a walk, maybe?â He suggested when you both began to pack everything up into the bag, you smiling and nodding.
He carried the beach bag on his shoulder, your towels, shoes and the food containers thrown in there. He held his hand out, looking at you with his head tilted to the side like a puppy would. You grabbed his hand, the both of you walking alongside the water. A large smile was visible on your face as you looked out at the horizon and the setting sun. He smiled as well, the both of you feeling the wave crash against your feet.
âItâs beautiful.â You breathed out, him looking at you, lips slightly parted. He nodded in agreement, âIt is.â
You turned to meet his eyes, both of your gazes locking. His breath hitched when you moved your hand to cradle his face, getting on the tips of your toes so that you could reach his lips. His eyes shut, both your lips meeting halfway.
His hands went to your waist, pulling you flush against him as his lips moved with yours and the sun set behind the both of you.

Ghosts of Gotham: Tim Drake is a Halfa
Danny wasnât exactly sure what he expected when he met Gothamâs infamous vigilantes, but âRed Hood smells like death and swamp water had a babyâ definitely wasnât on the list. The moment he stepped into the room, Danny gagged so hard he nearly fell out of the air.
âHoly Ancients,â he wheezed, covering his nose. âWhat in the name of all things unholy is that?â
Jason, already not thrilled about the random glowing stranger showing up, tilted his helmeted head. âWhatâs what?â
âThat! You! You smell likeâoh, man. I canât even describe it.â Danny waved his hand in front of his face like it might help. âItâs like if ectoplasm went rancid and then you rolled in it for three days straight. Dude, do you know whatâs going on with your ecto-situation?â
Jason took a threatening step forward. âYou wanna say that again?â
Danny floated higher, clearly not intimidated. âOh, Iâll say it again. You stink. And not just like regular stink. Like ghost stink. Like, âthis is a health code violation, and the Ghost Zone is going to fine youâ stink. How are you even standing there right now? Anyone from Amity Park would be side-eyeing you so hard youâd feel it in your soulâwhatâs left of it, anyway.â
Jason stared, his body language radiating murderous intent. âYou are two seconds away from eating pavement, Casper.â
Danny, unbothered, pointed at his own chest. âExcuse me, Phantom. Casper wishes he could pull this look off.â
âPhantom,â Dick interrupted, trying and failing not to laugh, âmaybe we could focus on the introductions first?â
Danny gave Jason one last look of pity and floated down. âFine, fine. But seriously, Big Red, weâre going to have to talk about that. Iâll fix it later. No need to thank me.â
Jason looked ready to commit murder, but Bruceâs glare cut him off before he could say anything.
Once the chaos settled, introductions were exchanged, and things calmed downârelatively speaking. Danny, as it turned out, was impossible to fully calm down. He buzzed around the room like he had endless energy, chatting and throwing out quips that seemed to simultaneously amuse and irritate everyone.
Then Dannyâs gaze landed on Red Robin, and everything shifted.
Danny tilted his head, his glowing green eyes narrowing slightly. For a moment, his usual chaos quieted, curiosity taking over. âHuh,â he said softly, almost to himself.
Tim stiffened, his body going taut as though preparing for impact.
Danny floated closer, peering at him with an unnervingly intense expression. âYouâre like me.â
Timâs heart skipped a beat, and he immediately stepped back, his movements sharp and jerky. âI donât know what youâre talking about.â
âYes, you do,â Danny said, and his tone was too soft for the others to hear the shift in it. âYouâre like me. Youâreââ
Timâs hand twitched at his side, as though debating whether to reach for something or retreat entirely. âDonât,â he said sharply, his voice low.
Danny blinked, then realization dawned on his face. âWait⌠they donât know, do they?â
âWhat donât we know?â Bruce cut in, his voice sharp with suspicion.
Danny ignored him, his gaze locked on Tim. âOh, man. Iâm sorry. I didnâtââ
Timâs eyes darted toward Danny, his frown deepening as uncertainty clouded his features. He shifted his weight, his fingers twitching at his sides as if fighting the urge to bolt.
He took a step back, then another, his movements slow and almost imperceptible. His breathing quickened, shallow and uneven, as though the air itself had grown heavier. The space around him seemed to shimmer faintly, a distortion that matched the anxiety rippling across his face.
Danny reached out, concern etched in his expression, but Tim flinched. His lips parted as if to say something, but no words came. Instead, the shimmering intensified, and with each passing second, Tim grew more translucent, his form fading like a mirage under the moon.
By the time Danny blinked, Tim was gone, leaving only a faint disturbance in the air where he had been.
The bats froze, their eyes darting around the room.
âWhat the hell just happened?â Jason demanded, reaching for his guns. âWhereâd he go?â
âDid you do something?â Damian snapped at Danny, his hand already on his katana.
âWhoa, whoa, whoa!â Danny held up his hands, his eyes wide with excitement. âNot me! That was all him! Holy Ancientsâhe can turn invisible?!â A grin split his face as he practically vibrated in place. âThis is awesome! Waitâdoes he shoot ecto-beams too? Or, oh, what if heâs got some crazy transformation Iâve never even seen before? This just keeps getting better!â
Bruceâs expression darkened. âYou need to explain. Now.â
Danny sighed, his excitement fading as realization set in. âOkay, but first, I need to go find him. Because if heâs anything like me, heâs probably freaking out right now. So⌠bye!â
He phased through the floor before anyone could stop him.
âââ
Danny found Tim perched on the edge of Wayne Industries, staring out at the Gotham skyline. He floated over cautiously, his boots touching down softly on the rooftop.
âHey,â Danny said, his voice quiet. âMind if I sit?â
Tim didnât respond, but he didnât tell him to leave either, so Danny took that as permission. He sat down cross-legged, giving Tim some space.
They stayed like that for a while, the silence heavy but not unbearable.
Finally, Danny broke it. âOkay, so⌠not to ruin the moment, but can we talk about how you've had to endure Jasonâs ecto-stench this entire time? Because seriously, thatâs gotta be a health violation. I mean, I'm half-dead, and even I think itâs concerning. Someone needs to dunk him in a pool of purified ectoplasm or something. Iâm gonna file a complaint withââ
Tim laughed. It was soft and brief, but it was real.
Danny grinned, leaning back on his hands. âThere it is. I knew you had a laugh in there somewhere.â
Tim sighed, his shoulders loosening slightly. âYouâre⌠a lot,â he admitted.
âI know,â Danny said proudly. âBut I grow on people. Like mold. Or fungus.â
Tim huffed another laugh, shaking his head. For a moment, the tension eased, and Danny let the silence settle again before speaking more seriously.
âLook,â Danny said, his voice softer, âIâm sorry I outed you like that. I didnât know. And if they give you crap about it, Iâll personally make their lives miserable. But⌠youâre not alone in this, okay? I mean, yeah, it sucks. A lot. But youâve got me now, because thereâs no way weâre not becoming best friends now, and I get it.â
Tim looked at him, his eyes glassy but steady. âThanks,â he said quietly. He hesitated, his gaze dropping to the floor. âDo you really get it? I mean, you know what itâs like toâŚâ His voice trailed off, thick with hesitation.
Danny tilted his head, his tone softer now. âYeah. I know what itâs like.â
Tim let out a breath, shaky but determined. âI died.. a few months ago.â
Danny blinked but didnât say anything, giving Tim space to continue.
âHarleyâshe caught me. Took me, actually. I was gone for weeks. Theyâsheâhanded me over to Joker. It was like a⌠gift. She thought itâd fix their relationship or something, I donât know.â Timâs voice faltered, his gaze flickering to the floor as if the memories were too much to hold. âI held out as long as I could. I kept fighting, kept trying to survive, butâŚâ
He shook his head, his hands clenching into fists at his sides. âWeeks of it. Beatings. Electrocutions. I donât even remember the exact moment my heart stopped. I just⌠wasnât there anymore.â
Danny stayed quiet, his face a mix of empathy and understanding.
âHarley panicked,â Tim continued, his words tumbling out like a confession. âShe thought sheâd gone too far, that Joker would kill her next. So she tried shocking me back. Guess she half-suceeded? I only came back halfway.â He gestured at himself vaguely, his hands trembling. âIâm not the same. Iâm not⌠whole.â
Danny nodded slowly. "Youâre stuck between," he said, offering the words with quiet reassurance.
Tim nodded, biting his lip. âYeah. Between.â He paused, looking up at Danny. âI havenât told anyone because⌠how do you tell them something like that? How do you tell your family youâre not really alive? That their search was all in vain? That I still died, even though they looked so hard for me? I canât make them think they failed.â His voice wavered. âThey were so scared when they found meâŚâ
Danny stayed with him in the silence, his presence a steady comfort.
Tim exhaled slowly, rubbing his face. âI thought I was weak. I thought if I told them what really happened, theyâd think I was broken. And I didnât want to be a burden.â He looked up at Danny. âIâm still not used to this. Not used to being⌠like this. I donât even know how to control itâsometimes I phase through walls, other times I get stuck halfway. And the invisibility thing⌠I canât even make it work without disappearing when I get too emotional.â
Dannyâs gaze softened with understanding as he leaned in slightly, his voice steady but gentle. He hummed thoughtfully, âItâs a lot to handle all at once.â
Tim's shoulders slumped as he leaned closer to Danny, âIâve been trying to figure out how to control it, but every time I get close, something goes wrong. And I didnât want anyone to think I was weak or⌠freakish, so I kept pretending everything was fine. It was easier that way. Easier than explaining⌠all this.â He exhaled slowly, the exhaustion in his voice evident. âAt least it was⌠until you showed up.â
Danny reached out, resting a hand on Timâs arm in a quiet gesture of comfort. âI donât think youâre a freak. Youâre just different, like me. But that doesnât make you broken. Youâre still you.â He paused, meeting Timâs gaze. âI know what itâs like.. to feel different, freakish, the whole nine yards. For what itâs worth? You're handling it a lot better than I did.â
Tim gave him a tight smile, the first real one in a while. âThanks. It helps. More than you know.â
âââ
When they returned to the Batcave, Tim sat down with the others, Danny sticking close by his side. Tim took a deep breath and told them everythingâabout being captured by Harley, the weeks of torture at the Jokerâs hands, the electrocutions that had stopped his heart. About how Harley had panicked and shocked him back to life, halfway. How he wasnât entirely human anymore.
The family listened, their expressions ranging from horror to guilt to anger. Jason looked ready to kill someone, and Bruceâs usually stoic face betrayed a crack of regret. Tim hesitated as he explained why he hadnât told them sooner, his voice faltering but honest.
Timâs voice cracked slightly as he spoke, âI didnât want you to think you failed⌠that you searched for me for nothing,"
Danny stayed quiet but stayed close, resting a hand on Timâs shoulder. âFor the record,â he said, glaring at the others, âif any of you give him crap about this, youâre gonna have to deal with me. And trust me, I will make your lives miserable.â
Tim gave him a small, grateful smile. For the first time, he didnât feel quite so alone.

No Eyed Girl by Lemon Demon
Star Crossed Lovers
Space aesthetic
:3
(Can you tell I'm in love with aliens and space?)
DPxDC In Love With Space
"Someone's excited," Cassie teases, but Tim doesn't pay her any attention. The Bioship carries them through the clouds and up, closer and closer to the stars, and Tim's heart flutters a little in his chest.
"I don't think I've ever seen you so eager to get away from Earth before," Kon muses, leaning forward to get a better look at Tim's expression, and that causes him to blink and finally look away from the endless void of space that awaits them.
"I'm not really eager to get away," he corrects, and, in a moment of brilliant mischief - because one never just misses an opportunity to mess with their teammates - grins, feeling his cheeks heat up slightly. "It's just that when you spend a long time in love with space, it eventually falls in love with you, too."
Kon's face looks rightfully confused, which is exactly what Tim was aiming for. But not for long.
Not after a sound of fleeting, flattered distant laughter rings through the ship, and Kon's face shifts from confusion into alarm. But Tim's heart skips a bit for an entirely different reason, and he runs a hand over his cheek, trying to cool it down because it feels like his face is actually on fire now.
Shit, he definitely heard that.
Not that Tim minds, he'd say it again to his face, but... Let's say he was simply caught off-guard. Yeah, that's definitely why he is now a color of a tomato, and not because his boyfriend is a stalking little shit that decided on the most dramatic coming out possible.
He hears the worried voices of his friends behind him, something about the Bioship detecting a mass of something unidentifiable right in front of them, but he doesn't listen. Sure, he could tell them it's okay. He could explain that he knows exactly what said 'mass' is.
But he is decidedly not about to ruin Danny's performance because where's the fun in that?
The space in front of them shifts. Not inside the ship, no, the whole starry sky out the window moves, like it's merely a picture and not actual galaxies and nebulae out there. And then, there's another sound, like an ice crack in the distance, and a big, roughly the size of Tim's whole body, arm comes through the front shield of the Bioship. It's made of the empty darkness and bright stars, a piece of vast universe given form, and the claws clink against the metal floors as more and more of this impossible being comes through the reinforced glass and onto the deck.
It has no eyes of mouth, and its hair is merely a messy outline on top of their head. It's just... stars, planets, and comets and galaxies shaped in a vaguely humanoid form.
The form that stops trying to get inside the ship when it gets themselves in just halfway, and then lies its chin down on its elbows, their face right in front of Tim's. Or, well, not face, since it lacks all kinds of facial features, but Tim still feels that fond gaze of theirs on himself.
"Talking about me with your friends behind my back, Starlight, I see how it is," the being chuckles, tilting it's head to the side, the whisps of their hair floating gently in the air. Their voice sounds like a whisper of a shooting star, a roar of an avalanche, a gentle hum of electricity, all at once.
"Rob, what-" he hears Cassie start, but he is already taking a step closer, carefully pressing a kiss to where the being's cheek should be. It's a little weird when he is in this form, what with his head being twice as big as Tim's own, but, sue him, he likes the drama of it no less than Danny does.
Right on cue, his teammates all gasp and choke on air behind him.
"Hi, dear," he teases his boyfriend slightly, and Danny reaches one of his clawed hands forward, very carefully wrapping his fingers around Tim's body.
"When you spend a long time in love with space, it does eventually fall in love with you, too, yes," he gently repeats and confirms Tim's words from before, and Tim can't see it, but he knows Danny is smiling.
He also knows he is smiling as well.
~â˘~â˘~â˘~
Just for fun, as a finishing touch, here's the aesthetic I put together for this:
I really, really loved the song, by the way, I think I'm going to play that on repeat now.
Hope you like the piece!

THE HOLIDAYS SPECIAL SHITPOST IS CANON??? Omg, and itâs not a one time thing, anybody can just watch it??? if its in idw does that mean the traveling mtmte can accidentally intercept it? Can anybody, not anybody but a bot, just yoink it? Neutrals just spreading it. Thinking about swindle, or somebody just sending off to different groups aside from the ones in earth. Overlord, Tarn, Kaon, the reason the decepticons lose the war is because theyre humanfraggers. But if it lands on anti-cybertronians hands it can be used for major propaganda :(
Yeah, I suppose it is now canon to the fics on the Masterlist under IDW/G1 𤣠I treat the ones under Lost Light as wholly separate. That little PSA is definitely not going to have the intended effect, though. There are a lot of lonely or just outright bored Cybertronians on both sides.
Everything Is Alright Pt 96
IDW Starscream x Reader, Soundwave x Reader, Megatron x Reader
⢠Leaning his chin on a fist as you sit with your back to him on the other arm of his throne, he listens to you tell him about the wreck. About blundering into the middle of a fire fight between Starscream and the Autobots. About talking to him after heâd taken you and decided to keep you, asking him about his day and Megatron hears your voice soften with genuine affection. You talk about meeting Soundwave and the cassettes. Starscreamâs failed attempt to free you giving him pause, because when has the Seeker ever cared for someone besides himself? But listening to you, it sounds like heâs learning to care. You leave out some things, he knows. Not mentioning how Star had claimed you. Or Soundwave. But finally you fall silent, little shoulders tense. And your story just leaves him more exhausted. Because heâs not sure what to do. Punishing Starscream will also punish Soundwave. And you.
⢠Behind you, Megatron is silent. For all you know, your story bored him so bad he fell into recharge. So itâs a surprise when he reaches and runs his servo against your side and you look up at him, those red optics staring at you. âYouâre an incredible amount of trouble for being so small,â he mutters, chin still on his fist as the servo slides to tip your chin up. âBut useful. That fool canât act out for fear of you being harmed. He might be trained yet.â And he smiles down at you, that look making your skin prickle. Trained? âDonât worry, I think youâll enjoy helping.â
⢠âIâm not helping you make him miserable,â you say, pushing at his servo with warm little hands as your eyes narrow. That unexpected attitude sparking through him. Heâs seen little glimpses of it amid the submissiveness, but usually youâre quick to hide it. To play at being docile. It makes him want to push to see how far youâll bend before you lash out. And heâs curious despite himself. Remembering that little glimpse of you under the Seeker. The sounds.
⢠âI only want to reward good behavior,â he says, that smile becoming something wicked that makes you freeze. Because heâs not so scary or intimidating when he smiles, that severe face seeming younger, more open. Pushing away from his servos, you scowl at him, trying your hardest not to acknowledge that for a heartbeat you thought he was handsome. Absolutely not. âAnd you donât really have any say in it, pet.â
⢠Stuck patrolling with Soundwave even though the communications officer isnât at all suitable for this, Starscream knows itâs just so Soundwave can watch him. Make sure heâs not plotting and he hates it. Still needs to do more research and right now? He canât even think about his plan or Soundwave will know. He has no doubt the other mech is eavesdropping in his mind. Spying. For Megatron. Frustrated, they walk their circuit looking for any sign of Autobots and coming up empty. The enemy quiet lately. And he almost wishes an Autobot would show up, someone to take his frustration out on. And even if he could plot, heâs too distracted with worry. Hates leaving you at Megatronâs mercy. Heâs felt that mercy, bears the scars of it and youâre so small. So fragile.
⢠Feeling the Seekerâs thoughts seething almost out of control, Soundwave vents tiredly. Understands the worry, but he trusts Megatron. Heâd tried pinging Rumble and Frenzy both and had only gotten a distracted âbusyâ from Frenzy and a flicker of emotion he really doesnât want to think too closely on. Almost sure both cassettes are busy with the same human Rumble had disappeared with. Hoping they donât do anything too impulsive but also sure that they likely did. Neither had ever been great at thinking things through, preferring to act on impulse. Like you. Reaching for things you want no matter the consequences.
⢠Returning to base, Starscream heads for the bridge and his optics narrow to find no guards waiting today. Wings flaring, he strides inside and freezes. Hissing softly as Soundwave brushes past him and also stops. Because thereâs Megatron sprawled on his throne, but heâs pulled a little table in front of him and youâre in the center of it in a nest of blankets, one draped around you so only your face is visible. Itâs the embarrassed anger on your face that snares his attention. âIf you hurt-â
⢠âYour little mate is fine. Just a bit put out. Did you patrol as I asked?â Megatron growls, cutting Starscream off. Sees the Seekerâs wings flick up, trembling with rage, but he sullenly nods. âGood. Claim your reward.â Flicking his servos at you as you stand, he growls softly. âThe blanket?â Now youâre shooting him a sullen look, eyes narrowed as you let the blanket fall with your back to him. He can see enough, though. The delicate chains dangling from your wrists and throat, and the draped, sheer cloth that doesnât even start to hide you. That covering had been a happy find amid the pile of soft things Starscream had for you and the look on your face when his Insecticons had fetched it to him along with the chain? That had been even better. Almost as amusing as leashing you and watching you change into your new covering while trying to keep yourself hidden from him. Those angry eyes doing things to him. âMass displace and claim your reward.â
⢠Embarassed you look at Soundwave and Starscream. Soundwave frozen and Starscreamâs optics are sliding over you hungrily despite how mad he looks. Part of him likes this, you think. Seeing you bound. Itâs not like Megatron had touched you aside from attaching the chains about your wrists and throat. And thereâs enough extra chain youâre not actually restricted, the chains looping up to the thin collar around your neck. Know itâs meant to mock you and infuriate Starscream and Soundwave. A punishment for them lying about you being a pet. Megatron trussing you up like a pet. A plaything. Soundwave moves first, hands on the table and lunging up as he mass displaces to drag you into his arms. Big hands running over you checking that youâre okay and reassuring himself. That concern taking the edge off your mortified anger. Itâs not like Megatron hasnât seen Starscream fucking you. Is the warlord playing chicken? Trying to shame Soundwave and Starscream for wanting you? Or does he just want to watch? âStar?â
⢠Soundwaveâs hands are on your hips as you look back at him. Those chains making a silvery sound where they slide against Soundwaveâs plating, your skin on full display through the sheer fabric youâre wearing. But heâs frozen trying to figure out the game. To humiliate him? To mock him? Thereâs an angle, but as you stare up at him he finds himself coming to you anyway. Mass displacing and reaching to touch you through the fabric. Pulling you back to him, Soundwave following with a soft growl. Aware of Megatron staring at him in challenge. Daring him. Ignoring the warlord, he brushes his mouth against your throat. âAre you okay?â Relaxing a tiny bit when you nod, soft hands touching his sides, running up his chassis. Tangling his servos in your hair, he pulls you into his arms. Growling when his arm bumps Soundwave, the communications officerâs hands on your hips so youâre pinned between them.

Peter nodded, he didn't know more then the general reason of replacing real animals with android ones, but he wasn't about to dig any further into it as it didn't seem to be worth the time and effort.
BeeBee purred happily, attention was always something she was excited to receive from people, even visitors she wasn't familiar with. As long as G cleared them, then she knew it was safe to ask for attention.
"It wasn't something I ever considered to be possible, so no." Peter shook his head, but now he was starting to make a mental list of things that he might possibly experience during the course of working with people from another dimension. He'd discuss it with Dan later just in case he had a few things to add to it, so that way he'd be a little more prepared.
"Didn't plan on mentioning it, seems like a good way to make people think you've lost your mind. And that's not something I need any help with." Peter laughed, he felt the occasional odd things he did were bad enough, and he definitely didn't need his coworkers questioning his mental state more then they already did.
Brent returned with more parts and the new arm for the Bishop android, he placed the arm on a cart nearby so the android could attach it on his own. He knew his help wasn't needed as reattaching a full limb was something most androids could do on their own, the process was much simpler then repairing the damage. He made his way back to the assembly machine to start piecing the next android together, as he noted Peter was currently occupied with something else.
Vincent paused his work to look up at the other android, his LED spun red and yellow as he considered the request. He didn't like the idea of talking to someone he wasn't familiar with, but having the topic be about something he enjoyed made it a little less stressful for him. He was still a moment as he considered it then slowly nodded, convincing himself that there were enough people he did know present to keep him safe. "I-uh, sure." He whispered quietly as he quickly returned to missed with his ear to keep his mind partially distracted.
"You can really tell that Sixty was one of the first androids Peter worked on, it's a miracle he got him up and running at all since he'd taken a bullet to his brain. Peter has fixed his brain some more since then, so he's gone from acting like a sugar fueled toddler to a rowdy teenager." Dan explained as he watched the two coordinate with each other to install the computer.
"His goal at the time was to give Connor friend to talk to that were like him. Sixty could be returned to a fully operational state, but after hearing Connor speak of his interaction with Sixty and how he wound up with a bullet in his forehead, we all agreed we'd rather have a goofy Sixty then one that was a constant asshole." Peter had informed Dan of what Connor told him, and he'd been there when Peter ran a simulation of Sixty if his brain was fully repaired. The simulated Sixty had instantly started talking down to them and acting like he was far better. Even Sixty had expressed his feeling on the matter, making sure they understood he was fine the way he was and didn't wish to go back to the way he'd been before.
"He can do basic police work now which is good enough for him." Sixty occasionally did work at the level of Connor and Nines, but he liked tagging along for random calls, as he found solving nothing but murders and other such things to be too repetitive.
Dan rolled his eyes as the two knocked heads again well attempting to reach for the same cable. "Nines needed some work too, as you've likely noticed he and Sixty have completely different voices. Nines needed a new voice modulator as his was severely corrupted, and the best Peter could find that was compatible without running the risk of trying to order a new one, was one from an android model used for narrating. So that's why his voice is far deeper then Sixty's." Dan still couldn't understand how a brand new model had suffered any type of malfunction with their parts, but he felt it was likely something Cyberlife had done to him once they realized his model would never be released.
Dan and Daniel's head both snapped to the human when he sneezed, their LEDs both turning red as they watched him until they were certain he'd only caused himself some slight pain. "That kid, I swear... He does the most brain dead shit sometimes..." Dan mumbled as he shook his head then glanced at Rook, feeling he'd likely have to explain their reaction and his own words.
"He mouthed off to a former friend who was pointing a gun at him, which earned him four bullet holes. He really shouldn't be up and about yet, but the only thing that would keep him in bed is tying hm to it." Dan explained as his LED returned to blue once he was certain Peter hadn't popped any of his stitches.
"I never liked his human friends anyways... They were either far too strange, or showed clear signs of serious undiagnosed mental issues. Johan thought Peter was trying to be better then him when he heard about what he'd done to me, and of course he didn't believe a word Peter said... Which lead to Peter deciding to call him out on his behavior in a very insulting way.... Terry had a thing for eating non-food items... I once watched him eat an unwrapped candy then say the tin foil hurts his teeth."
"And Catherine, ugh... He met her when we visited here, she was a new Cyberlife hire at the time and gave Peter a spare repair manual for my model. Of course he kept in contact with her, and when the deviant situation first started she asked if he'd come see her to help her move. He'd pay to fly to her and she'd pay to send him back... He arrived only to find she was gone and a note explaining she'd gone home and was sorry he wasted his time. She didn't give him the ticket back, and he couldn't afford it, so that lead to him taking a job at the police station" Dan shook his head, he was glad Peter was no longer in contact with those humans.
"He was only supposed to be gone a few weeks... I really did fear the worse as I hadn't heard any updates on him, and the more time that went by the worse it got for me. I know it's a bit of a silly thing to deviate over, but I truly thought he'd died and that I'd lost a very important human in my life. Catherine better stay far away from here, or I will be having a very serious talk with her." He growled quietly, he truly hated the humans who Peter had befriended as most turned out to be the worst types of humans possible.
"So it was to prevent animal cruelty. That's surprisingly enlightened for a corpo."
Or she supposed the marketing team was at least somewhat competent. There was no better way to sell fake animals but pretending that the industrial process behind their production was any good for the environment.
They better have made dinosaurs too.
In any case, Rook was delighted to be able to pet a polar bear. BeeBee was wonderful and deserved all the pats.
Bishop saw the general reaction to the frankly odd choice for a delivery system and decided to provide pointless commentary. "Why, have you never looked into the abyss before?"
He did. Right after said abyss was done raiding their supply convoy. But he wasn't going to mention that particular encounter, or what he did about it. He would have liked to be returned to his base at the end of this visit.
"I apologize for the scare. I would appreciate if you didn't mention this either." Willow said, standing up. If anything, she could offer her help setting up the new computers faster.
She briefly looked in Vincent's direction, only for the android Bishop to move to stand in her way. If he meant to look menacing, Willow was having a hard time appreciating that when he was still missing an arm.
"I wished to inquire your friend about the stuffed animals he makes. I would like to purchase a few."
The android knelt down, quietly inquiring Vincent about it.
"You'd think they were made from the same mold." Rook replied, watching Peter and Sixty's shenanigans.

âI have a theory,â Heeseung pauses, taking a sip from your Stanley Cup as you quirk a brow at him, âabout Sunghoon.â
Itâs not often that Heeseung actively engages in conversations regarding your skating partner, so your curiosity is piqued. âWhat about him?â
Your boyfriend shrugs, setting your tumbler on the ground before slipping his boxing gloves back on, âAbout his, uhâŚdate. I donât think heâs into Jisu like he said he was.â
You snort, leaning your head against the rugged brick wall as you watch Heeseung give the punching bag a few light taps. âTrust me, I figured that out by now. I just donât understand why heâd lie about liking someone.â
Heeseung glances at you for a moment, shaking his head at the fact that you clearly didnât understand Sunghoonâs dilemma. âHe definitely likes someone, just not her.â
âThen who?â
âYou seriously donât know?â
You throw your arms up in mock frustration, âHow am I supposed to? He doesnât talk to me about girls or his love life.â
Heeseung chuckles, mumbling âI betâ under his breath as he lands harder hits on the punching bag. âSunghoon likes you, YN, thatâs why the date with Jisu didnât go well. Thatâs why he can barely even look you in the eye and why itâs so awkward skating with him now.â
âYour routines are so fucking â ugh â romantic now, and heâs obviously into you. He probably â ugh! â feels guilty, or some shit.â Heeseung punches grow harsher and harsher as he speaks, pausing every so often to let out a loud grunt as his fists connect with the leather.
Dumbfounded, you stare down at your sneakers in awe. Youâd never imagined the possibility of Sunghoon having a crush on you, but Heeseungâs theory makes more sense than youâd like to admit.
âBut, why would he tell me-â
âBecause you fucking cornered him and demanded he tell you who he liked.â Heeseung interrupts, already knowing what your question was, âHe was probably seconds away from pissing himself and blurted out the first girl he could think of.â
âI did not corner him.â
Heeseung rolls his eyes, using his forearm to wipe the sweat off his brow, âWhatever, just pointing out that you probably scared him.â
You sigh, awkwardly toying with your shoelaces as you mumble, âI didnât mean to.â
âI know you didnât, baby,â Heeseung ducks around the punching bag a few times, pretending heâs in a ring with an opponent as you stifle a laugh at him, âhe was just nervous, is all.â
âWell, what am I supposed to do about this? His ⌠crush on me is making it impossible for us to skate together, and I canât do much about it.â
Heeseung allows his arms to fall to his side, chewing on his bottom lip as he gazes at the beat-up punching bag. Thereâs one idea that may just work, and maybe itâll be enough to get you out of Sunghoonâs system just enough for him to go back to normal, or at least learn to not be so nervous around you.
âWhat if, for one night, we just ⌠let him have you?â
Before you go to respond, Heeseung delivers another heavy punch to the bag, watching silently with a tense jaw as it breaks off the chain and falls to the ground.

FELIX ONE-SHOT

đ§::
You had read about Hybrids going into heat before but you didn't imagine it to be this intense. Felix spends most of his time on the couch in front of the AC shirtless, if not only in his boxers, or in his bedroom. He eats way less than usual, he's always sweating and his fangs have definitely grown resulting in aching gums. He's gotten to the point he doesn't remember what it's like not to be hard because he has a constant aching boner that never goes away no matter how much he masturbates. Worst of all of this, he's moody as all hell.
Felix has never gone through such an intense heat, perhaps because he's living with a woman now, but either way he's struggling with his feelings a lot. Between the raging hormones and frustration from lack of control Felix is rather...snappy.
Currently, Felix is up in his room and you have left him alone all day because he wants to be left alone but you worry about him. You make a plate of dinner for him and tread up to his room before knocking on his door. "Felix, I have dinner for you," You call out but he doesn't reply. You open the door to see him lying down in his bedsheets, his eyes open. "Hey," You say softly and Felix's ear twitches. "How are you feeling?"
"Shit," He replies and rolls over, his tail flapping in irritation. You hesitate on how to reply.
"Anything I can do to help?" You ask softly before gently setting the plate on his nightstand.
"I don't know," He growls as his tail slaps harder against the bed. "You should get out," Felix says before rubbing his face up against his pillow.
"I'm worried about you Felix," You hesitantly put a hand to his back and his ears flick up at the sensation, his nose twitching. Felix shakes his head and wiggles away from you. You sit down on the bed next to him and notice his body trembling softly, probably from the raw urge to breed. "Talk to me, I want to make sure you're safe," You rub his back.
"If you stay here much longer you won't be safe," He says gruffly before rolling over to face you. His breath was heavy and his face was flushed, sweat built up on his forehead. He looks up at you with those desperate eyes that squeeze your heart but something is hidden deep within them...You bring a hand up to his cheek, petting him softly, and he dips his cheek right into your hand, rubbing up against your palm. He lets out a soft groan as he feels your skin on his. "I need..." He mumbles incoherently as he slithers closer to you.
"What do you need my baby?" You pet his head softly with your other hand and he groans softly.
"Breed," His hands tremble as he reaches out to claw at your shirt. His breathing gets heavier as his pupils widen, his tail now swaying slowly. You're slightly taken aback by his statement, he was much more direct than you had expected. "Please...let me," Felix nuzzles his head up into your neck, pushing up against you hard.
"I-I don't know Felix..." You continue to pet his head as he growls softly, his teeth grazing over your skin. He then rubs his body up against yours, the heat of his body surging into yours, and you feel his cock desperately rubbing up against your thigh. "Alright," You sigh and Felix grins before biting down on your neck, not too hard, but his fangs make it more painful than intended. You let out a mix of a moan and whimper as you feel him suck on the bite, making the mark more prominent.
"I wanna claim you, make you mine," He growls as his hands run around you body, tugging off your clothes. You simply let him have his way with you because you know that right now, he just needs to let it all out. Once he gets you naked he leans back, his eyes raking over your body vigorously. "You're so hot baby," He growls before leaning down to your stomach, placing kisses all around as his hands run up to your hips, kneading the skin. "You're gonna look even sexier all round and swollen with my seed," He rubs up against your stomach as he lets his fantasies run wild. He didn't know if he could even fertilize you put he could still embrace his breeding urges. "Fuck," He groans before bringing his head down to your core, his hot breath now feeling cold against your heat. "I've been smelling you all week,"
He nuzzles his head between your legs before beginning to give your pussy little kisses and licks. "So sweet," He groans before diving in deeper, now eating you out like he's been starved. His pupils are now completely blown out as he watches your reactions, the way you squirm and throw your head back. You bring a hand down to his hair, grabbing his hair in a tight fist. You notice his tail happily swaying in the air behind him.
His tongue circles around his slit and his eyes roll back, feeling your little hole he's so eager to fill, could he possibly wait? He tries to, focusing on eating you out instead but he can't help himself. "Y/N, can I please," he lifts his head up, his sweaty forehead resting on your pelvis.
"Please what?" You tilt your head, petting his ear softly.
"Breed...I need your consent..." he moans softly as his hands ghost over your hips and thighs, his breath labored and hot on your skin. "Please say it...please let me fill your until you're nice and round, breed you until you're full of my kits," he nibbles on your tummy, leaving another mark just above your pubes.
"Yes Felix," you tuck his hair back messily. "You can...breed me," you hesitate solely because you aren't sure he can but it's the principle of the matter, to fill you, claim you, mate with you.
"Are you sure?" he looks up at you, his lips trembling and his eyes glossy. He pulls himself up weakly, sweat cascading down his body. As he pulls himself above you his eyes lock onto your cunt, he's so ready for this and he hopes you are too. "I don't know if I can control myself..." he mumbles in a low voice before positioning himself accordingly.
"It's okay," you caress the side of his face and he lets out a shaky breath. "Let it all out," you kiss his forehead before leaning back on his pillows, your arms around his shoulders. He takes a deep breath before pushing his hips forward, a choked moan breaking through his lips.
"Fuck," he tosses his head back, smiling wickedly. His ears flick upwards for the first time in days while his tail sways back and forth in excitement. His hips instantly begin to rock into yours sliding in and out smoothly thanks to your mixed arousal. "I wanna breed you so bad," he growls loudly as he claws at the pillow your head rests on. He fights to hold back his lust, not wanting to hurt you, but it's a losing battle.
"Let it out," you moan softly and kiss his nose softly, and his eyes light up. His hips begin to pick up speed and strength, the rolling filling with the sound of his cock ramming into your sloppy pussy. His strong, mating demeanor cracks for a moment, his eyes squinting shut as he whimpers.
"You're so tight," Felix moans as he remains steady but a little uncontrolled, his head fuzzy from lust. You bring a hand up to his hair, fisting it softly, and his vision blurs from the overload of lust. "I'm going insane," he smirks softly as his head falls to your chest, his hips slapping against yours relentlessly. "Need to claim you," he bites your chest, right in the center, symbolizing he has your heart. "You're so good to me, the perfect owner and perfect mate," he smiles seductively as he picks his head back up, sweat dripping down his nose as he watches your body bounce with each thrust. "You're gonna take it all, aren't you? Take all my seed," he growls possessively.
"Yes baby, fill me up," you moan loudly as you claw at his back. "Fuck, I'm close,"
"Yes," he moans, "I can't wait to see that pretty face when you cum," his voice reeks of lust and raw desire burning for you. Felix doubles up his efforts to bring you to the edge. "C'mon baby," he kisses you quickly. "I wanna cum with you," He murmurs before leaning back into your lips, your tongues messily exploring each others mouths. "Almost there baby," He nuzzles his head into your jaw before you feel that rush of warmth through your body and the knot in your belly snaps, fluids rushing out to coat his cock.
"Felix," You moan very softly, nearly a whisper and he unloads inside you. His hips jitter forward as layer after layer of cum pours into you.
"Yes, oh my fucking god," He growls as his body shudders. Felix clings to you tightly as his load fills you up entire. "You're so hot...such a perfect mate," His hand snakes down your body to gently rub where your uterus would be. "Nice and warm hm~?" He smirks softly and you sigh.
"And full," You smile as Felix sits up. He pulls out, your walls and arousal still clinging to him, before sitting next to you. "Feelin better?"
"Yeah, a bit," He nods with a smile and you thought your little ordeal was over. You move to stand up but Felix quickly grabs your hips. "But I need to make sure you're full," He smirks softly as he pulls you back down to the bed. "Full of all my seed," He lays you down on your tummy and you can't deny that you're excited for another round, another rush of pleasure. "I'm not holding back this time," He growls before holding your body down. "Pin your body down and pump you full of my seed," He thrusts his cock back into you without warning and as he begins to pound into you, you can hear the cum in your cunt sloshing around. "You hear that baby?" He growls before leaning down, caging your body beneath his. Though the question wasn't entirely intended to be answered you couldn't if you wanted to because your mouth was so full of moans, you could hardly function as Felix wrapped a gentle hand around your throat.
Saliva drips down from your lips and Felix grins, quickly licking it away. "Messy girl," He nibbles on your earlobe as his hips slam against your ass, the clap of skin on skin echoing in the room. "You drunk from my cock huh? Can't even talk," He taunts with a growl stuck in his throat. He begins to slam into you harder, the bed shaking with each thrust.
"Fuck! Felix!" You cry out loudly as your eyes roll back, more spit dripping down to your chin and throat before meeting Felix's hand that's wrapped around your throat.
"You cumming?" He says in a slightly teasing way.
"Yeah," You whimper with a soft nod and Felix grins.
"Good girl," He praises into your ear, hoping you'll teeter over the edge soon. His hopes came to light quite quickly after his praise.
"Felix," You pant out and he grins.
"That's me baby," He whispers into your ear as your body shakes from the intensity of your orgasm. He quickly wraps up his orgasm, unloading inside you again, finally satisfying his heat. "Fuck," He pants before laying down on your body. "It's calmed down a little," He sighs softly. "All that release at once...Thank you Y/N," He sighs before cuddling up beside you. "Are you okay?" He looks up at you with those big eyes.
"Yeah, great actually," You chuckle, "But tired," You sigh and Felix nods.
"Me too...we should get some sleep," Felix purrs into your chest as he wraps his body around yours. "My mate,"
