The things is. I care about these characters immensely and I want to keep enjoying them. I've spent a lot of months re-reading comfort fics just to keep my brain from hurting me even more that it already does. It may sound stupid but they've kept me alive when there was nothing else left (they still do). It's the only thing I know for sure and the only thing I got right now.

Summary: During an interview, someone asks you to marry them and your girlfriend isn't happy about it

MASTERLIST | READ PART TWO | READ PART THREE
“My next question is for Y\N.”
Hearing your name being said from somewhere in the crowd in front of the stage, you looked up and quickly finished drinking your water to put the bottle back on the small stool they placed between your and Evan’s chairs. That was the first question directed at you since everyone else who got a chance to ask a question to the Marvel actors seemed more interested in asking things to the people who had been a part of that universe for longer. You couldn’t blame them because that was your second year being a part of that large cast and that was your first ComicCon, not to mention that your colleagues and friends were very entertaining to watch answering the fans' questions.
Now, however, someone was about to ask you something and you got excited very fast. You had prepared to be asked a number of questions about your character, who had featured in two different movies in the MCU and was about to get a movie with her very own name after making success among the fans. You took the microphone that Scarlett elegantly gave to you from where she was sitting in front of you and waited to hear the question. Your eyes scanned the large crowd to find who was about to talk to you, finding someone standing with the microphone in hand after a few seconds.
“Yes?” You prompted the man to talk and also to let him know you were paying attention to what he was about to say.
“Will you marry me?”
There was a beat of stunned silence before the theater erupted in laughs. You were so surprised by his words - and fairly disappointed for having to hear that type of question when all the men got asked very deep questions before - that it took you a moment to go back to the present. You pressed your lips in a thin line and looked around while you thought about your answer. You didn’t want to be rude, but you also didn’t want to let this guy think he was so amazing for asking that type of thing.
Most of your cast mates were laughing around you, but you saw the way Scarlett turned around to throw you a sympathetic smile, which certainly brought you some comfort at least. Brie was also one of the few who didn’t think it was funny, and you thought you may have seen Holland grimacing a bit. There was another roll of chairs behind you and you couldn’t see the reaction of anyone sitting there. You couldn’t see if your girlfriend, Elizabeth Olsen, was sharing an awkward laugh with everybody or if she was as stunned as you.
You had been dating for quite some time now and, although you didn’t make any effort to keep it a secret, the public hadn’t connected the dots yet - which was a first. You liked to think you knew Elizabeth enough to know she didn’t find that question to be funny, though. Not because she would go jealous or anything, but because she could see it was a sexist joke to make every man in the room laugh. The guy himself was accepting the catcalls his friends were throwing his way like he was the most amazing man on Earth, and that’s what made you decide to shoot back instead of going for a simple answer.
“Really?” You asked on the microphone. “You have the right to make one question, and that’s the question you’re going to make?” You added incredulity in your voice and more laughs filled the room, then you shifted to sarcasm - your greatest weapon. “I mean, we’re not going back to you. You know that, right? You have one question, you make it, and that’s it. You can’t make another one.” You could see Scarlett laughing honestly at you, her eyes shining with mirth, and then Elizabeth’s chuckles reached your ears as well. Before the guy could say anything else, you kept talking, dragging him without remorse. “I will give you two seconds to think if that’s what you want to ask.”
For dramatization, you raised your hand, slowly taking two fingers down while everyone else seemed to have fun with your actions. Even the guy who made the question was laughing, although you doubted he realized you were making fun of him.
“Fine, you can ask your question now,” you joked, pointing at him and reclining against your chair. You crossed your legs, placed an arm on the back of the chair, and turned your body to the side a bit to look directly at him.
And then, the question got asked again: “Will you marry me?”
Of course, laughs sounded all around one more time, even louder, and you bit the inside of your cheek while swinging the microphone in front of your mouth for a few seconds. Then, when the laugh died a bit, you crossed your arms. “Give me a reason to do it. Come on.”
“I have money!” The guy shouted since the person mediating the questions had already removed the microphone from his hand to move on to find someone else who wanted to participate.
“So do I, my dude!” You shouted back before remembering you didn’t have to.
However, as you realized everyone else was laughing again, you knew it was a nice reaction to have for the public. Brie, sitting a few chairs from you, had thrown her head back to laugh, and Scarlett placed a hand on your knee as if to show you support. You risked throwing a glance behind you and caught the way Elizabeth was smiling at you and that’s all you needed to keep going on with that crazy conversation.
“Really, I have money. So, unless you’re an Arabian Prince or something, I don’t think I will be too impressed with your bank account,” you provoked and then leaned over to point at him with your free hand. “I mean, if you are an Arabian Prince, you wouldn’t want to marry me to start with because, you know, I’m not a virgin. That ship has sailed, my friend.” More laughs. “Are you a prince of some sort?” You watched as the man shook his head and started sitting down, laughing so hard you were a bit worried he would stop breathing soon. Well, at least he wasn’t offended by your reaction, but you kind of wished he was. “There we go. So you’re not a prince. And I have money, so I’m not interested in that. I’m not saying I’m richer than you, but I would only get impressed if you were a prince, sorry.”
“Someone is going to have nightmares lost in the desert tonight,” Robert joked over his own microphone, causing some more laughs.
“No, really,” you kept talking, looking at him now. “He had one question and that’s the one he chose. I even gave him a chance to make up his case because I totally ignored the biggest reason why I wouldn’t marry him. I’m gay! Everyone knows it.”
Now you were just drawing the moment because you couldn’t help yourself. People were laughing and they were having fun, and you wished to keep it like that. Also, it was a way of letting everyone know you wouldn’t put up with stupid shit like that. It could’ve been much worse, you knew that. You had seen the amount of sexist questions Scarlett got asked through the years, so you should be glad that it was a minor thing. Harmless, even, albeit very annoying. Even so, you wouldn’t let people think it was okay to brush your work to the side to ask those types of things.
“By the way,” you said, looking back to the crowd even if you couldn’t find the guy anymore, “thank you for ruining my first proposal.”
“No one ever asked you to marry them?” Holland asked in his overly excited manner.
“Nope.” You shook your head. “It just got ruined for me now. My first proposal and it happened like that.” Then, you pretended to be sad, pouting and everything.
“Oh, no,” Scarlett joined in the joke after stealing Robert’s microphone. “I hope the second one goes better.”
“Not as special as the first one.” You shrugged and that put an end to the subject, finally.
Everyone shared another laugh and the panel moved on after that. It was filled with more funny moments and you got asked some good questions after that, so, once it was over, everyone was in a good mood. Some of the cast had to attend another panel starting soon, but some of you decided to enjoy the mood to have a little celebration at the hotel bar. Once you all got there and got your drinks, your friends started talking about the things that happened during the panel, obviously addressing one of the most memorable moments.
“You dragged him!” Brie exclaimed with a laugh. “The guy has no idea what hit him!”
“He has no idea because he didn’t even realize he was wrong,” Scarlett pointed out gently, although she reached out to squeeze your shoulder. “But, damn, that was awesome.”
You rolled your eyes and shook your head. “If they don’t fire me now, I think I’m safe for another ten years or so.”
While everyone else chuckled and started talking among themselves, you noticed that Elizabeth was quiet beside you. She was sitting on the chair by your side, nursing a fancy drink that she had only taken a sip from, and looking from face to face without paying attention to what was being said. You couldn’t ignore it, of course, and quietly moved your chair a bit to get closer to her so you could lean over to whisper against her ear, masking your actions by pretending you were only getting closer to kiss her cheek.
“You okay?”
You pulled away a bit, but kept close by leaning your elbow on her armrest. Elizabeth glanced at you with wide eyes and surprise written all over her features, and you watched as she opened and closed her mouth a few times. Her pale cheeks acquired a pinky shade and, even if you worried with her, you also couldn’t help but think she was the cutest person on the planet.
“Yes, I am. Why do you ask?”
“You’re very quiet,” you pointed out gently.
“I’m always quiet, sweetie,” Elizabeth declared with a chuckle.
It was an earnest chuckle, not forced or faked, and it made you relax almost immediately. You rolled your eyes fondly now and leaned closer to kiss her cheek again “Not always,” you whispered before pulling away with one eyebrow arched, giving her a very meaningful look.
Elizabeth picked up the meaning behind your words and blushed a deep shade of red, which caused you to laugh loudly, bringing the attention of everyone back to you. Everyone there knew you two were dating and they quickly jumped in to tease both you and Elizabeth, much to your amusement and her distress.
The night was amazing despite that - or maybe because of that - but you all said your goodbyes before you got too excited with the drinks. Everyone needed to get up early the next day to be a part of more panels and other interviews, not to mention that having half of the Marvel cast getting drunk in a hotel bar was a very bad idea, so you all decided to call it a night.
You and Elizabeth kept company to Scarlett, walking her back to her room so she wouldn’t be alone, and then took the elevator again to go to the room you were sharing. As soon as you stepped inside, you kicked off your shoes and started taking off the vest you were wearing on top of a long-sleeved shirt. Elizabeth stepped in behind you, being much more pragmatic in her actions. She took her high heels and placed them neatly beside her empty luggage, then she started taking off her earrings while walking towards the safe deposit box where she had placed everything valuable. Meanwhile, you threw the vest away and lay on the bed with a deep sigh, arms and legs stretched out like a starfish.
“Oh, I wish I could sleep all day tomorrow,” you groaned, feeling the ache in your body make its presence known.
Elizabeth had her back turned at you, but you heard her chuckling softly at your words. “You should go take a shower before you pass out on the bed.”
You whined but you knew she was right. Elizabeth knew you better than anyone and she knew you could fall asleep in a minute without even realizing it. You were a bit sweaty and you also needed to remove the make-up you applied earlier that day, no matter how tired you were. Making loud noises just for drama effect, you got up and made your way to stand behind Elizabeth. She was slightly higher than you, something she liked to tease you about. You kissed Elizabeth’s shoulder gently and hummed when she leaned back against you. Your arms wrapped around her waist and you smiled when she rocked her body from one side to the other with you.
You stayed like that for a moment, just enjoying her presence and the silence in the room after a day filled with attending crowds and making interviews. After a while, Elizabeth turned around in your arms with a loving smile that made your heart a bit warmer. She pecked your lips before her hands moved to start undoing the buttons of your shirt, slowly revealing your bra beneath it. It wasn’t a sexual gesture at that moment, just something she decided to do for you to keep you close to her for another minute.
“Go take a shower,” she told you again. “You’re smelling like Evans.”
“He hugged me like a thousand times,” you complained, earning a kiss from her and an amused laugh.
You eventually managed to take the said shower, taking your precious time under the warm water to lose up some of your tense muscles. You would have to wake up extra early to wash your hair to have enough time to get to your first interview, and you wished you could stay in bed with your girlfriend all day. After getting out of the shower, you went through your skincare routine - the one that Scarlett forced on you until you put it in your daily agenda - brushed your teeth, and finally left the bathroom ready to jump in bed and go to sleep.
As soon as you stepped outside, though, you realized something was different. Well, it wouldn’t take a genius to notice that the lights around the room were almost all dim or the soft music playing in the background, but it surprised you enough that you stopped short in your tracks as you looked around. You opened your mouth to call out for Elizabeth when you spotted your girlfriend standing by one of the corners where a champagne bottle was left at some point when you were taking your shower.
You arched your eyebrow at her, but Elizabeth didn’t say anything as she walked towards you holding two glasses and smiling at you. She was still wearing her beautiful black dress, feet bare, and cheeks just a bit red, and you found yourself being rooted on the spot, hypnotized by her. You took one of the glasses when she got close enough and saw your girlfriend reach out to close the bathroom door behind you.
“What’s going on?” You asked when she took your free hand gently to pull you to the middle of the room. Elizabeth didn’t reply and you couldn’t help but keep talking out of nervousness. “I feel underdressed now. I already put my pajamas on, didn’t know we would be celebrating tonight. What are we celebrating, by the way?”
Elizabeth smiled throughout your rambling, eventually stopping you by squeezing your hand once. “There’s something I need to tell you,” she said.
“Okay,” you mumbled, suddenly much more nervous than before. The mood wasn’t somber, so you didn’t think it would be something bad, but you could never know.
“I had a plan,” Elizabeth started to explain. “I was going to wait for our anniversary, take you to ski or something equally dangerous because you enjoy this type of thing,” she chuckled fondly at that. “I would have more time to prepare a speech and there was going to be roses. I was still debating if I would do it before or after dinner.”
You had no idea what Elizabeth was talking about, so you didn’t try to stop her. Your heart was beating so fast inside your chest that you were afraid she might be hearing that, though she just looked utterly content looking at you.
“I got the champagne, at least, but the hotel couldn’t provide me the roses this late at night with such short notice. And we don’t have snow. It’s actually very, very, hot outside, and our dinner was old peanuts from the bar downstairs,” Elizabeth kept talking, her hand still holding yours and your glasses were dangerously forgotten. “You’re already in your pajamas and I’m not wearing the very cute dress I was thinking about wearing when I did this, but…” She paused, took a deep breath and let her eyes fall to your joined hands for a moment. “But I don’t think all of that would have made it any more special.”
“Lizzie,” you whispered, making her eyes snap back to yours. “I’m lost.”
Elizabeth laughed lowly and nodded. “Right, sorry.” She blinked at you. “I’m sorry someone ruined the first time you got proposed to and I can’t let you go with that lame proposal as your only proposal for longer.”
Okay, now you had a very clear idea where that was going and you felt your eyes widening immediately. Your racing heart started going even faster when Elizabeth let go of your hand to pull out a small blue box from somewhere between the folds of her dress. You had no idea how she hid that there, but you also didn’t care. Not right now. Elizabeth gently opened the box, with the inside turned at her yet, and smiled when she saw what was inside. Then, she held the box with the same hand that was holding her glass and reached out to take your hand again.
And then, because life wasn’t already crazy enough at that moment, Elizabeth got down on one knee in front of you.
“Y/N, will you marry me?”
She showed you the ring finally, but you honestly didn’t even mind what it looked like. What mattered was the woman in front of you asking you to spend the rest of your life with her. You loved Elizabeth and had known for a while that she was the one you wanted to share your life with, but you had never imagined she would be proposing to you. It surprised you enough to delay your reply for a couple of seconds, even if you had no doubt what your answer would be.
“Yes! Of course! Yes!”
Your voice was way higher than it had to be, but neither of you cared.
Still ignoring the box between you two, you leaned over to kiss her, bringing your hands to cradle her face. You forgot about the glass in your hand though and your kiss got interrupted by a yelp when Elizabeth felt the cold drink falling down her shoulder and ruining her dress. You parted and shared a look before bursting into a fit of laughter. You helped her go back to her feet, still holding her face - more carefully now - and you shared another kiss before she slid the ring on your finger.
Turns out you were wrong. Second time was even more special.

i still don't 100% understand how much one is allowed to put their blorbos into the Heartbreak Gulch-verse, but. what sorta rules would there be for making a CompanDroid character. if other people can even make one. asking for a friend
I'll write up a more formal rundown eventually, but I'll warn you, if you make a CompanDroid, there will probably be something that comes up later that'll negate what you made!
First off, they're uncommon. They were very expensive, and haven't been made for roughly 60 years. Eddie is a pretty old ComDro at 83, he was pre-ordered and number 13 off the line. He's also in great working condition for his age, part of turning to crime was a necessity to afford repairs and maintenance.
There's 26 set models, 13 men and 13 women, one for each letter of the alphabet. A male, B female, so on. Not all are planned out, so there's your wiggle room for design. They were modeled in pairs, and modeled after various celebrities. For example, Model E's, which is what Eddie is, were modeled after a heartthrob Mexican actor, and the Model F counterpart was a Mexican Miss Universe winner. G and H are older folks, G taking the likeness of a children's programming host, and H a cooking show host. I haven't pinned down specific roles for others, but have looks in mind, like A & B being very Ken and Barbie looking bombshells. They range from young adult to elderly.
There were standard and deluxe editions. Standard models are unable to eat, drink, smoke, have sex, other bodily functions. Deluxe versions add all of that. Some models did not have a deluxe option. Deluxe upgrade kits were also available- Eddie himself had an after-party upgrade.
ETA: There's some variations in hairstyles as well- for example, Eddie looks different than a base Model E because his buyer paid extra for an option to have him resemble a role his face-sake played in a western film- hence the very cowboy facial hair
That's all I can think of for now! Run wild and free with your blorbos, just keep in mind how little I've put out there and how much can change haha

MEDIC! Part 26 (Donald Malarkey x Fem!OC)
Tumblr media
Well hey gang, I have been so busy I left Emily all alone. But got some inspo and finished the chapter. I don't think the inspo was that happy but oh well whatever floats my boat apparently. Babe learns in this chapter that he is a feminist! He's so sweet! We love him! George also is a cutie, and so are Don and Emily. A bunch of cuties in this chapter, I tell ya.
Based on the HBO show and the actors who portray the characters, not hate to anyone involved.
Tag list: @next-autopsy, @panzershrike-pretz, @xxluckystrike, @bucky32557038ww2, @b00ks1ut, @footprintsinthesxnd, @paula-912, (please tell me if I missed you seriously)
I buried my face into Don’s chest as the light streamed through the cracks in the curtain. I hadn’t felt more rested in years. His arms held me close all night, shooing away all the monsters that lurked in the corners of my mind. For once I had dreamt, and it had been a pleasant dream. Not that I can remember exactly what happened, but the anxiety that normally tightened in my chest when I woke wasn’t there. Don wriggled under me, his hand coming up to cup my cheek. His fingers pulled me gently to look up at him. I smiled sleepily at him, my eyes still half closed.
“How did you sleep?” Don asked, looking down at me.
“Like a baby!” I couldn’t help the giddy laugh that fell from my lips. My stomach doing somersaults. This had been the first time we shared a bed. Sure, we slept in close quarters in Bastogne, but in a hole with two other men in the freezing cold. So it was quite different to share a warm bed under a roof, with just the two of us.
I grinned up at him, feeling so loved. I couldn’t stop smiling. Don’s eye glanced down at his wrist, where the watch sat on his arm.
“SHIT!” He blurted sitting up, causing me to fall off his chest and onto the bed. I face planted into the mattress groaning.
“What?” I asked annoyed, as he flung himself out of the bed, throwing the covers off me in the process.
“We are moving out today! We are moving out now!” He said as he hastily got dressed. My eyes widened, looking at my own watch, fuck we were going to be left behind if we didn’t get a move on. Don pulled on his pants hopping around the room, one leg in and one out. He hopped on one foot trying to jam his leg into the pant hole. He wobbled around trying to keep his balance. I watched him fall in slow motion, his foot caught in the hole, as he tumbled to the ground. I burst out in giggles, the image of him falling replaying in my head. The more I thought about it the harder I laughed.
“Em, stop laughing and get dressed!” He hurried me, but I could barely breathe, let alone get out of bed and get dressed. He joined in, unable to suppress his own laughter.
“I’m crying!” I said in a high pitched voice through tears of laughter. I moved from off the bed still laughing as I got dressed, having to stop when the giggles became too much. I took a deep breath finally composing myself. I packed my things away into my bag, and pulled on my shoes.
“I’m gonna grab my bag. Save me a seat.” Don said, placing a kiss on my forehead, before leaving out the door. I nodded as he left.
I made my way onto the street, the men getting into the trucks. I spotted Lieb and the others loading into the truck. I moved faster towards them, Lieb saw me giving me a wave and pointing at the bench beside him.
“IT’S MY DOG! SHE’S TAKING MY DOG!” I looked over my shoulder in fright from the loud voice that boomed over the noise. My eyes fell onto Lew, as he harshly threw his helmet to the floor while he yelled. I watched Winters and Lip in front of him looking sorry for the man. I didn't get to wonder about what that was about, as Christenson walked past me, his hand landing on my shoulder pulling me from my focus on Lew.
“Let’s go Em!” He yelled, giving me a firm pat. I nodded, heading in the direction of the trucks.
Lieb offered me his hand pulling me up into the bed of the vehicle. I sat down beside him and Web, saving a space for Don. He arrived shortly after, climbing into the back and sitting down beside me. I heard the men talking amongst themselves.
“Sarge, what do you have in here? Germans?” Garcia said, heaving Bull’s rucksack into the truck.
“Hey, Perconte. You got a lighter?” I heard Ron’s voice carry over the rest of the noise. I glanced over, seeing him standing with a cigarette hanging off his lip.
“No, sir. I don’t smoke.” Perconte told the Captain. I tilted my head, I know he doesn’t smoke but he does in fact have a lighter. It clicked, Perconte and Ron were very similar. As everyone knew Ron was very sticky-fingered, taking whatever he wanted without a care. But over time I had noticed that Frank was the same, however only a few people had picked up on his stealing habits. He quietly collected many things, watches, medical supplies, scissors, anything really. You would never see him take anything though, he was very sneaky in his ways. Then you would go through his things and find an accumulation of nicknacks. George told me when they first landed on D-Day that Frank went around collecting all of the watches off the dead German soldiers. By the end of the week both of his forearms were ticking so loudly George could hear it in his sleep.
It made sense that Frank was reluctant to give up his trusty lighter to the Captain who was notorious for not giving things back.
“Where are we headed?” Frank asked.
“We’re going to the Alps. Let me see that lighter.” Ron demanded casually, knowing that Frank did have a light.
Frank sighed, reaching down into his pocket, pulling out the lighter and handing it to Ron.
“The Alps?” He asked again. I didn’t know where we were supposed to be going, but by the sounds of it, the men hadn’t been told the same thing.
“Yeah.” Ron confirmed, lighting his smoke.
“That near Berlin, sir?” Bull asked from beside him.
“No.” Ron replied.
“That’s in Bavaria.” Webster said from behind the Captain. I couldn’t help but chuckle, he just always looked so lost. “The birthplace of National Socialism.” Webster informed the men who didn’t seem to care for the piece of trivia he had blurted at them.
“So that mean no drop into Berlin?” Luz asked Speirs, throwing the baseball he had into his glove on the other hand. We were supposed to be dropping into Berlin? Because I don’t know if I would’ve made it, not being parachute trained and all. Would I have been left behind?
“No drop into Berlin. Hitler ordered the Waffen SS to hole up in the mountains and repel all invaders.” Ron raised his voice louder for all the men around to hear him. “He wants them to start a guerrilla war.” Ron told them men as he puffed on his cigarette.
“Invaders.” Bull grinned. “Damn, I like the sound of that.” He strode off, probably in search of his own platoon. George climbed into our truck as well. Perco stood hanging off the framing, eyeing up the Captain.
“They’ll die, the last man trying.” Ron said. He turned, walking away.
“Sir.” Perco called him.
“What?” He asked, swinging back around to face Frank.
“My lighter.” Perco said, extending his hand. He knew all too well that if he let Speirs get away with it now he would never see it again.
Speirs did a double take of the lighter he had in his grasp. Not looking all too keen on giving it back. Perco stood his ground, hand still out stretched.
“All right. Nice lighter.” Speirs said, begrudgingly throwing Frank back his possession.
I settled back into my seat, talking with Don who sat beside me as we set off again. We fell into easy conversation with each other and the men who sat close by.
George and Perco told Don how they snuck back to the barn we had been to previously to get more eggs. I laughed loudly saying that George was probably trying his luck again with the German woman since I wasn’t there to drag him away. He denied it adamantly, but from the twinkle in his eye I knew I was right.
The men started singing loudly, they were all very excitable about going to the new destination. It was starting to feel like this was all almost over and hopes were getting high again. There was more joy, less sadness in the eyes of the men. We weren’t cold, or hungry. No one was dying, we weren’t being blown to pieces by Kraut artillery. We had showers and beds, roofs over our heads.
“He ain’t gonna jump no more!” The men bellowed as we bounced along in the truck. “Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die. Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die. Gory, gory what a hell of a way to die. He ain’t gonna jump no more.” I laughed as Don sang in my face, a bright smile on his lips. I was being nudged by George from across the truck, he was as usual egging me on to sing.
“Christ was strapped around his neck, connectors cracked his dome. Suspension lines were tied around his skinny bones. The canopy became his shroud, he hurtled to the ground, and he ain’t gonna jump no more.” I made a face, listening to the lyrics. It was such a happy tune but the lyrics were about a man hurtling to his death from the plane.
“Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die. Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die. Gory, gory what a hell of a way to die. He ain’t gonna jump no more.” I joined in on the chorus, the men seemingly very pleased at my participation as George hooted and hollered.
“He hit the ground, the sound was ‘SPLAT’, his blood went spurting high. His comrades, they were heard to say, ‘A hell of a way to die!’ He lay there, rolling ‘round in the welter of his gore, he ain’t gonna jump no more.” My eyes widened as I listened, jesus why is this song so violent?
The men sung the whole song, with great enthusiasm. I on the other hand was a bit traumatised by the lyrics.
“Hey Em!” George yelled over the rumble of the engine, I nodded leaning in further to hear him speak. “What does ‘pop that pussy’ mean?” I pulled back to look at him, to ensure I had heard him correctly.
“I’m sorry?” I said shocked.
“The other day, the song you sang, you said ‘pop your pussy’.” George asked, eyes wide like a small school boy.
“Oh!” I remembered, finally putting together the pieces of what the hell he was talking about. It all finally hit me. I keeled over in fits of giggles. He had told O’Keefe that he would understand when he was older, but in reality George didn’t actually know.
“Oh George!” I laughed, patting him on the shoulder. “Sweet innocent George.” I teased, pinching his cheek.
“I am not innocent, I’ll have you know.” He exclaimed, shooing away my hand from his face. I laughed harder.
“What do you think it means?” I asked, seeing if he had any inkling at all as to what it meant.
“Well I know that pussy is in relation to the.” He paused a blush rising to his face. “Well you know the-” He motioned with his head down my crotch. “You know!”
“Ok yes I know what you mean, continue.” I wanted him to stop jerking his head towards my privates.
“But I don’t know what ‘pop that’ means.” George confessed. I bit my lip trying to suppress my laugh, why did he look so serious about this?
“Ok so ‘pop that pussy’, just means to have sex. But I think it’s like a certain position.” I said, trying to remember what it actually meant. George nodded along. “I think it’s from behind.” I raised my eyebrows sending him a joking wink. There was a pause as we looked at each other before we both burst out laughing.
“George, why did I have to explain that to you!” I complained while we giggled.
“Well you sang it!” He explained throwing the blame back onto me.
“You egged me on!” I threw it right back at him.
“Yeah I just wanted to hear you sing!” He protested. I stopped straightening.
“Why?” I asked.
“You’re a good singer, I like listening to you.” He confessed. I blushed, pushing him gently.
“Stop, you’re so cute.” I said, hiding my face in my hands.
“I only heard you that one time, and now I want more!” George said.
“Stop it!” I giggle, hitting him.
“No, I don’t sing. Not for people. I just sing in the shower.” I shook my head.
My mum always tried to get me to perform for people but I always got the worst stage fright. I think she was just so proud of me and wanted everyone to see me shine, but I hated being the centre of attention. She also begged me to sing at her funeral but I was barely functioning so I didn’t sing as she asked. I feel so guilty about it now. She always begged me to sing, much like George and I always said no. I think she would’ve asked me to sing for her even if I was terrible.
“You would sing for me, right?” George asked, my heart felt heavy in the moment. The interaction reminded me so much of my mother. I guess this was my opportunity to take back my guilt.
“I would sing for you anytime, George.” I lent my head on his shoulder, taking his hand in mine. His arm swung around my back pulling me in.
“Ah, I knew you would.” He said, giving me a tight squeeze.
My butt ached from the hard seats and bumpy ride. I was so bored, we had been driving for ages. Lieb had given me some of his gum to chew since I was starting to feel motion sick. Least the scenery was nice to look at, I pointed out every animal I saw like I was five again.
“Oh cows!” I yelled pointing to the field we were passing. “Say hi to the cows, Don.” I waved over at them. “Hi cows.” All he did was laugh at me.
“When are we going to be there!” I sighed defeated. I needed to pee, but we hadn’t stopped in ages, and it was hot sitting in the sun. I was so tired and just wanted to get off the truck to stretch my legs.
“I’m sure we will be there soon.” Don said, resting his head on my shoulder.
“Hey Don?” I asked, dipping my head down so he could hear me better. He hummed in response.
“What makes you happy?” I let the question fall from my lips. I didn’t mean for it to be so deep, but it came out before I could stop it.
“That’s a good question.” He said sitting up and facing me.
“My family, my friends, you. You make me very happy. Sunny days. Pancakes in the morning. Going on walks. Kissing you. The sounds of birds chirping. Making you laugh. Your happiness. What else makes me happy?” He thought out loud. I couldn’t help the blush that rose to my cheeks. The flutter in my chest only grew faster, from all his sweet words.
“Waking up with you in my arms, but that’s more than happiness. It’s love. You make me love everything. I don’t know how, but the days seem brighter, everything seems sweeter. The colours all seem so vivid. You just seem to make everything better, more brilliant.” I was grinning now like a mad woman, my face hurt from how hard I was smiling. Don moved forward, placing a kiss to my cheek. I just about swooned off the truck.
“Hey love-birds, knock it off will you, you’re making me sick.” Lieb kicked at us from across the truck. I poked my tongue out at him in response. The other men joined in around us throwing out complaints. But all with smiles on their faces.
I stood out by the trucks as they cleared the buildings. I felt torn in my feelings. I hated that we had to kick them out onto the street, but what if they supported Hitler’s views I didn’t feel too bad. I watched the families exit the building looking around for their next move, they sent glares in my direction. I lent against the truck waiting for the men to tell me it was clear to go inside. A family passed by me, the parents spitting at my feet. I looked at them, disgust clear on my face. The mother of the family glared back, I watched as she noticed that I wasn’t a male, her face contorting into a look of determination. The woman was quick, darting over to me, I didn’t even get a chance to react as she took me by the collar of my shirt.
“Du bist keine gute Schlampe!” She cursed in my face, I didn’t need to know German to figure out she wasn’t saying anything nice. “Du solltest verdammt noch mal sterben!”
“Hey, what the fuck do you think you’re doing?” Babe shouted as he marched closer. The woman loosened her grip, but was still staring me down. She spat in my face, I flinched back, recoiling from her. Babe didn’t even have time to grab her before she scurried away. I wiped her spit from my cheek feeling repulsed by her actions.
“What was that all about?” Babe asked, bending down slightly to make sure I was ok. I shook my head, confused myself. Did she think because I was a female that she could accost me so easily?
“I have no idea. Is the building cleared?” I asked just wanting to go inside and wash my face. Babe nodded. He led the way inside.
I had asked Babe not to say anything about the situation he had witnessed, he had complained, saying the woman needed to be dealt with.
“Babe we are only staying the night, we took their houses from them, in an aggressive manner. Other than spitting on me she didn’t really do any damage. It’s fine, just leave it.” I tried to calm down the red head, as he frantically paced back and forth in the small room. He had been so wound up, looking ready for a fight. He had threatened before to go and find her and bring her to Speirs.
“What about we go play some cards, I think Luz and Tab said they were going to play.” But it was no use. He was so angry for me. I think he was even angrier because I wasn’t. It was terrible to say but as a woman, in any time, it was something I was used to. We are always taught to be pleasant and polite. It was unbecoming to be overly emotional. It was normal to be harassed and assaulted, and just to be ok with it. It was normal, something we got used to. It made me so sad to think about the percentage of women who were assaulted every year, and that there were no repercussions for the assailant. I didn’t even realise it before but I had belittled the things she did to me. She only spat in my face, it could’ve been worse, I’m not physically injured so I’m fine. But I was still assaulted, she had manhandled me, and then spat in my face. I sighed, rubbing a hand over my face. I wasn’t angry. I was sad.
“Babe.” I uttered softly, he stopped his pacing noticing the change in my tone.
“Let’s just go.” I had given up.
“But-” Babe started. I shook my head softly, my brows knitting together.
“It’s done. I don’t want to think about it anymore.” My voice said softly, it didn’t even sound like my own voice. He nodded, sighing.
“Oh, Babe, it’s ok.” I tried to reassure him, taking his hand in mine.
“But it isn’t.” Babe countered.
“No you’re right. It isn’t, but I’m used to it.” I gave him a small sad smile. I almost burst into tears seeing the realisation wash over his features. As if everything clicked into place for him. He understood what I meant, and what that meant for me. That he couldn’t protect me, not always, as much as he wanted too.
“Let’s go.” I whispered gently tugging at his hand still clasped in mine. He nodded gently, following behind me.

can I request scott and remy headcanons where they get “French Mistaked” and by someone else's mutaton, and end up in an alternate universe where they are nothing but actors on the show/movie of the X-Men and in a world with no mutations, basically normal au. And in this alternate universe they are married to they’re crush from they’re universe and have to play it cool to the fact that they are married to they’re crush. Sorry if this doesn’t make sense
In Another Universe
You never saw it coming—the flash of light, the sudden wave of dizziness, and then everything went black. One moment you were fighting alongside the X-Men, dodging attacks in the heat of battle. The next, you were waking up in an unfamiliar room, the scent of coffee and something oddly domestic filling the air.
Blinking against the bright light, you sat up. The room wasn’t the X-Mansion—it was far too normal. No high-tech gadgets, no mutant alarms, just a cozy-looking bedroom, sunlight streaming through the curtains. It felt peaceful but wrong.
You rubbed your eyes, trying to piece together what had happened. But before you could make sense of it, the door swung open.
There, standing in the doorway, was Scott Summers—or at least, he looked like him. But he wasn’t wearing his red visor. He wasn’t even in uniform. Instead, he was in casual clothes, wearing a soft smile on his face, and no sign of his powers.
"Morning," he greeted with a playful grin, leaning casually against the doorframe.
You blinked, trying to suppress your shock. "Scott?" you asked, though the name felt strange leaving your mouth.
He raised an eyebrow. "Scott? What, are you in character already?" He laughed lightly. "I thought we weren’t shooting until later."
You froze, your heart racing. In character? What did that mean?
"Uh... sorry," you muttered. "I’m... confused. Where are we?"
"Where are we?" he repeated, confused. "We’re home." His gaze softened with concern as he stepped closer. "You sure you’re alright, babe? You look a little pale."
You stared at him, your mind racing. Babe? You weren’t home. And Scott—he was acting... different. Less like the stern leader of the X-Men and more like a regular guy. And he was calling you by pet names.
It hit you like a ton of bricks. This wasn’t your world.
"Wait," you began, your voice shaky. "Where are we, exactly?"
He frowned, his brow furrowing. "James and (Y/N)’s place. Did you hit your head or something?"
"James?" You echoed, confused. "Your name isn’t Scott?"
Now he looked genuinely concerned. "No... it's James," he said slowly. "Are you messing with me? We’ve been together for years, married for two. You’re really not feeling well, are you?"
Married? You stared down at your left hand in disbelief, seeing a wedding band glittering there. This wasn’t just another reality—this was an alternate universe where Scott—no, James—wasn’t an X-Man. He was an actor. And apparently, you were married to him.
He took a step closer, placing a gentle hand on your arm. "You’re really out of it. How about you stay home today? I’ll let the director know you need to rest."
"Director?" you asked, still reeling.
"Yeah, for X-Men: Mutant Heroes, remember?" James smiled. "You and me—Scott and Jean. The movie we’ve been shooting for weeks?"
You felt your stomach flip. In this world, you and James were actors, playing Scott Summers and Jean Grey in a movie about the X-Men. No one had powers, no mutant battles, just scripts and costumes.
"I... I think I need to sit down," you mumbled, overwhelmed.
James helped guide you back to the bed, his touch gentle. "Take it easy," he said softly. "You probably just had a bad dream or something."
You nodded, trying to keep calm, though your mind was racing. How were you supposed to get back to your world? And why were you stuck in a reality where you were married to your crush?
James sat down beside you, watching you closely. "I’ll make breakfast, and we can figure out what’s going on later, alright?"
You nodded again, trying to suppress the flurry of emotions. "Yeah... thanks, James."
He smiled, leaning in to kiss the top of your head before heading to the kitchen. You sat there, frozen, trying to wrap your head around the situation. James—Scott—whatever he called himself here—wasn’t the man you knew. Yet, you felt your heart flutter when he kissed you. How were you supposed to play it cool when everything was upside down?
Later that day, you found yourself on a movie set, watching as the cast and crew bustled around. James was in full costume, his red visor back on as he prepared for a scene. But no matter how hard you tried, you couldn’t shake the strangeness of it all. Scott Summers was real in your world—a leader, a fighter, a mutant—but here, he was just an actor playing a role.
And you—his wife in this world—had to act like this was normal.
James caught your eye and smiled, giving you a playful wink before walking over. "Ready to run lines with me?"
You nodded, trying to hide your awkwardness. "Sure."
As you rehearsed your lines, you couldn’t help but marvel at how natural he was in this world. He didn’t seem to notice anything strange, acting as if you two had always been together. His charm, his easygoing nature—it was a side of him you hadn’t seen in your world. But underneath it all, it was still him. And as the day wore on, you found it harder to separate James from Scott—the man you’d always admired.
That evening, after a long day on set, you and James returned to the house you shared. The routine was familiar, comfortable—like it had always been this way. But as you watched him move around the kitchen, cooking dinner, you couldn’t help but feel the weight of your situation.
He turned to you, catching you watching him. "What’s on your mind?"
You hesitated, unsure of what to say. "Just... thinking."
"About?" He raised an eyebrow, smirking.
"How lucky I am," you blurted out before you could stop yourself.
James chuckled, walking over and wrapping his arms around you. "That’s sweet, but I’m the lucky one." He leaned down, brushing his lips against yours. The kiss was soft, warm, and it took everything in you not to melt into it.
When he pulled back, he smiled down at you. "You’ve been acting weird all day, you know that?"
"Sorry," you mumbled, still dazed from the kiss. "Just... adjusting, I guess."
"To what?"
"To... all of this," you gestured vaguely, trying to hide your slip-up.
James raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. "You’re something else, you know that?" He kissed your forehead again, lingering a bit longer this time. "I love you."
Your heart pounded in your chest as you forced yourself to smile. "I love you too."
For a moment, you let yourself enjoy the moment. You didn’t know how long you’d be stuck in this alternate universe, but one thing was certain—you were going to cherish every second with James, even if he wasn’t the Scott you knew. Because in some way, this was a dream come true.

So I just watched the last episode of Rings of Power and I’ve got some thoughts
I think there is absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying the show. I want to make it clear that these are just my opinions and I’m not against the show in any way or anyone who is a fan of the show.
This is just a disorganized rant from someone who is really rather stupid.
Spoilers below!
So honestly I’m left feeling really disappointed from the final episode. I thought the previous episode was pretty good in general. There were some silly moments like Elronds horse jump kicking the orc. But it felt satisfying as a whole with the battle and Celebrimbor.
Episode 8 felt like a plateau with nothing really at stake. Galadriel was all over the place; kicked down and crawling from a 10ft fall I would have expected an elf to land but then survived the insanely far fall from the cliff. Sauron seemed significantly weaker in this episode than the previous one.
The scenes of the Harfoots and men felt pointless to this episode other than to set up for another season I suppose. It was unnecessary and broke up any possible flow to the episode (But I also really don’t really give a shit about the Harfoots and don’t really understand the Numenor storyline so I may be bias)
My favorite part of this season has been Celebrimbor’s arc. That felt real and like there was something to root for and to lose. Maybe it’s the actor, maybe it just got better writing than other parts, maybe it’s good in comparison to other scenes idk. But it was dynamic; I didn’t feel like I was watching the rehearsal of lines in the writing room. The scene of him figuring out the time loop was so well done. Other characters almost feel like they were afraid to act and get into character fully. (Once again I have no hate for the actors and I doubt I could do any better. It is easy to critique things you are not doing)
Durin, the dwarves in general, Celebrimbor, and sometimes Elrond are the only characters I feel like have any soul. I don’t mean this as a disrespect to the actors because I certainly can’t act, it’s probably a combination of a lot of different things, but everyone else is boring as hell most of the time.
The characters and abilities and just general laws of the world feel disorganized and constantly changing to fit the story which is very different from Tolkien’s original works that are woven together in a cohesive narrative and world building.
I will say I died laughing at the Grand-Elf thing. I don’t think that’s canon and it’s so stupid that it’s almost good. I really don’t like Poppy’s “inspirational” monologues/songs; I feel like they are trying to make her kinda like the Sam to Nori’s Frodo but it doesn’t work for either of them. They are made to be underdogs but they haven’t actually done anything. (Although I do think the idea that hobbits are who helped Gandalf initially is why he loves Hobbits later on is pretty cute)
Anyway my overall thoughts on the show that no one asked for is that I think the show has significantly more bad than good in many aspects but it’s been entertaining and I will keep watching it. I’ve had fun making fun of it with my dad so it’s also been a good bonding experience lol.
This is such a messy rant and I don’t expect anyone to read this so if you made it to the end of this have a carrot because they are good for you

One More Dance | Kylian Mbappé
Tumblr media
Pairing: Kylian Mbappé x Female Reader
Summary: The job is to lure men and make them spend money at the beach club, but how does it feel to do that when you attract the most famous one of them all.
Word Count: 1.5k
Warnings: Slow burn
A/N: This is my very first one shot that’s football related. I’ve always written F1 one shots for so long and thought of doing something different for once. Got inspired by listening to a popular song on replay and idk why I felt it really needed to be written - btw if you wanna set the mood then watch the music video for the song here
This could be turned into a part 2 but all depends on the feedback. Do let me know your thoughts on this one shot and perhaps I’ll get working on the next part if requested. Also, apologies for the gif quality idk what happened. Anywho, enjoyyy .xx
It’s been a little over a year since I moved on my own to Spain and have since been working at an exclusive beach club. I quite liked my job, it was interesting how my work had changed over a couple of months.
It started off as being a waitress, to being ‘upgraded’ to serving only VIP clients and now on top of that, I’m a dancer. So since we have majority rich or famous clientele, my job is to be the main attraction and to lure men to continue wasting their money on drinks. Is that even legal ? I honestly couldn’t care, as long as I’m getting paid well.
If you’re wondering how the dancing came about, let’s just say that some of my friends here just can’t keep their mouth shut after a night out.
We’re told on the day who will be coming to the club so we can do some quick research of our own before the clients are here.
Today we were expecting a few football players, mainly away players from PSG such as Kylian, Sergio, Achraf and a few others. When I noticed the commotion upon their arrival, I got a heads up that in a few minutes it’s my queue to perform. Luckily I have my work friends dancing along with me, it eases the stress of being the lead dancer.
I quickly dropped my work and jogged over to our dressing room to get dressed so I looked the part. As per usual, all of us dancers have to wait in our dressing room until it was our queue. My makeup was already done, just had to touch up my hair from a ponytail to beachy waves and I was ready.
A few minutes later our manager, Megan, had jogged over to give us our queue. The music got louder and the vibe had instantaneously changed from relaxed to people itching to join us to dance.
The girls had set the mood first before the lyrics started and that was my queue. When I say I performed, I mean it.
Tumblr media
The wind was a paid actor because I never felt more like a main character than I did during this performance. With a hundred pairs of eyes on me, I could feel a pair in particular that was burning into me as they watched my every move. For a while I tried to search the crowd for that someone that I could feel a spark with and I knew he was the one when he was staring directly back at me. Mr. Kylian Mbappé.
Tumblr media
I confidently winked at him mid performance before I scurried off back to the dressing room to change yet again, during this time the live singer had taken over the song to prolong it whilst I got dressed.
I peeped out from the dressing room waiting for my queue and noticed everyone was up on their feet dancing, and cheering along to the live singer. Just as the lyrics continued, I stepped out and a path was cleared for me to make my way to the main dance floor. I lip synced along to the lyrics as I made my way to the crowd.
I noticed he was leaning against a pillar at the main dance floor with his arms crossed over his chest. I held eye contact until I walked past him to the empty dance circle. He turned around to look at me, gazing from head to toe. I couldn’t help but make eye contact again as I continued to do my rehearsed dance moves.
Tumblr media
With our intense eye contact, it felt as if this dance was for him and him only. The crowd around us was long forgotten. As the song was nearing the end, all that was left was to freestyle. As my back was turned to him for a second, I felt someone grab my hand and spin me around to bump into a chest. I knew it was him. My hands cautiously placed on his chest, my eyes slowly trailed to meet his.
I was so lost in his eyes and the thought of his next move that I failed to notice everyone around us salsa along to the music. He then spun me around and I followed his lead.
Tumblr media
At the back of my head I couldn’t believe how our moves were in sync as if we rehearsed together or something. My heart was racing and I can honestly say that it’s not the adrenaline rush. He continued to stun me with his smooth moves and his dominance whilst we danced. It felt like something out of a step up movie. The music, the crowd, the location was so unreal to be experiencing a dreamy moment like this.
As the song ended, everyone erupted in applause and screams. My arm wrapped around his neck as he dipped me down and slowly brought us up, my free hand lightly holding his face. The chemistry and the tension was on fire, I could feel it underneath my skin.
“You’re a pretty good dancer” I said with a grin. “I could say the same for you” he smiled as we then loosened our grip off each other. “Well I better be a good dancer, it’s part of the job” I said playfully. “Does the beautiful dancer have a name ?” He raised a brow. “Aww sweet, the name is not interested. Nice to meet you. Ciao” I winked as I scurried off. “Wait” he called after me. Ugh.. I hate myself for doing that but unfortunately I have to get back to my waitress duties, until later when we will have to perform again.
I got changed back into my first dance outfit, the holographic purple and green combo of a bralette, and skirt to make better use of it whilst I can. The girls all started squealing the second I stepped foot into the dressing room. “Oh my gosh guys.. calm down” I said as I placed a hand on my chest in shock. Megan came in to check in on everyone and congratulated us on our performance. “Big ups especially to (Y/N), our girl was out there dancing with Kylian ! Oh my god that was literally epic” she screamed. “I was shocked with the way he moved. Mans is smooth, I’ll give him that” I said as I looked at my reflection and fixed my hair. “Well, what did he say ?” Megan asked as the girls listened eagerly. “Not much really. He asked for my name and I cut him off saying that I’m not interested before running here” I shrugged my shoulders. “(Y/N) are you stupid ? You have an opportunity to be with Kylian and you’re blowing the man off ?” Megan said in disgust.
I looked at her face and immediately started to feel bad. “What are you still doing here looking at me ? Go get him !” Megan yelled at me as she pushed me out the door. I stumbled as I stepped foot outside. I tried to subtly look for him amongst the crowd before my eyes fell on him, for once he was busy chatting to Achraf so obviously wrong time for me to talk to him. I went up to the bar thinking I could give out some orders, but I was shoved with a tray of drinks in my hand by Lexi, my closest work friend. “You were specially requested for VIP table 2” she said as she nodded towards the table. I turned around and of course it’s Kylian’s table. Lovely.
“Hey boys. Who ordered drinks ?” I cheerfully said as I placed their drinks onto the table. I could feel Kylian’s gaze burn into me. “Hey it’s the dancer girl ! You were phenomenal by the way” Achraf said. “Aww thank you, really appreciate it” I smiled at him then stole a glance at Kylian. “Anyways enjoy your drinks boys and let me know if there’s anything else you need” I smiled at them before walking off. “(Y/N) !” He yelled my name which made me stop in my tracks. “You know my name ?” I asked shocked as I furrowed my brows. “Your friend Lexi told me” he said as he looked behind me to wave at her. I turned around to see her waving at us. “Anything you needed ?” I asked. “You” he said confidently with a smirk. “And what could I possibly do to help ?” I raised a brow with a half smile.
“I’d like another dance with you” he said. “I’m working Kylian” I said as I crossed my arms over my chest. I can’t believe I was saying his name so casually as if I knew him all these years. “I like how you say my name” he smirked as he stepped closer. “I like how you’re avoiding the topic ” I smiled. “So how about that dance, (Y/N) ?” He asked as he held out his hand for me. “Hmm…only because I like how you say my name” I said as I answered his question by placing my hand in his.

Actually not done ranting
Hot/D writers let RayRay look bad challenge
And I'm not even saying that as a diss. The whole point of Dani's story is that she's nothing like her ancestors.
Rhae is allowed to be not just flawed, not just downright racist in a certain case, but also actively harming others in order to get what she wants. but nooo, she can't kill her gay husband, she's a modern ally, speak Valentina.
Let her do things, let her take action not for the greater good or for prophecy or for feminism™ but because she feels entitled to it, because she wants to be queen
It's not feminist writing to rob all the female characters of their personality, active agency and make them solely reactive to men, whom the show keeps hinting at as almost genetically predisposed to war??? What is this, A Court of Fire and Blood?
And let the green goblins be nice to each other? How are you reconciling the ironclad faith Edmond and Begone had in each other last episode to the clear tension and animosity in this one?? Where is the third boy (which one, you might ask since on screen both generations are missing a whole fucking person)
Removing Helen's influence over her husband and cutting out that they only began sleeping in different beds post son beheading undermines their relationship and the reason a fuck up who never wanted to be king was scared into taking his sister's throne
Let the contenders for the throne be at the centre of the story? And stop acting like the audience is supposed to have read the books? Children are appearing and disappearing and I'm supposed to know or care about who the fuck they are 😭
I literally have never liked Demon but why make him killing his wife, saying the heir for a day and a son for a son unambiguous but then never showing him grieving with his daughters and acting like I'm supposed to see him as morally grey bad boi™ just cause he's played by your favourite actor
I told my brother the casting was intentionally manipulative with such a beloved actor but I never gave af, I'm so sorry
No hate to the actor, clearly it works as compelling or tempting or unconscious bias for some ppl
And apparently removing the canon black character ?? But it's okay because of you casted a whole other bunch of blood supremacists as black with no real regard to how their character writing plays into racial stereotypes: great stuff 👍 thank you so much for the representation as *checks notes*
a temp love interest whose romance and life gets reduced then glossed over and whose funeral brings together the real incest it couple,
dead beat DL father who fakes his death to run away from his family
Two supposedly main characters who get little to no lines and character development
Terrible wigs
And a cheating husband
(that being said, eve best and steve toussaint 🙏💚 love y'all) we were also robbed of black hair with the rogue white streak for Rains Barathea Tangent 💔
And because we kept time jumping in S1 with only a focus on like 7 ppl, the world felt so empty. Some of those time jumps could have been used to hint at the current wider world.
You have the source material, don't just fanfic at us, adapt it
How the fuck are you being out done by David and Duncan, Rian???
you know which 57 other ppl are gonna become relevant later on, why not give us more glimpses at the brocken and blackweed rivalry than that one scene where riverlanders went to stormy end for no reason??
Why not show us the Stork dude with his brother so later we click that him giving Jason the bad news about Lucas is double hard because he also lost a brother??
Why not show us Cory's kids working on his ships?? Where was Leanne's relationship with RayRay??? We didn't need to see the adult cast of Rhae and Alice's kids until the second season.
We needed more politics, more worldbuilding, a sense of consequence and reality. Chris can just kill a knight and a lord? Demon can just kill a lady and a lord? IN THE THRONE ROOM? IN FRONT OF OTHER non royal NOBLES? And no one is worried about that, there's no fallout of mistrust, no fear of vulnerability?
Ray can just have three brown haired kids and only Alice will be shown to be bothered?? Are we forgetting Jeffery having Lancaster blond hair literally triggered several succession wars and launched S1 of Game of Chairs??
Where is the politics, why wasn't she shown taking note of the rumours and in turn maturing to realise she must appease and befriend or at least gain the favour of those around her?
Give us more depth on how valyrian culture clashes with westerosi culture with a focus on gender and incest and how it's already made them extremely unpopular with the Faith so tiktok fans can understand putting a woman with bastard heirs on the throne is actually a kinda big deal for a lot of people who don't have white hair and uncle-brother-husbands
Like I'm not asking for a lot but you have access to one of the biggest IPs out, you have Grim who would rather work on anything but his next book in the main series, you have HBeeO bent over, come ooooon

Red, White and Royal Blue: A Movie Like an English Waltz with a Kick
I had practically given up on watching stories about same-sex relationships some time ago; for a while, I thought the reason for my growing indifference was that not belonging to the LGBT+ community, I am not directly involved. It took me a while to realize that I was simply sick of watching stories with sad endings, good as they may be otherwise.
Same-sex love stories in my experience very often have a tragic ending, with the possible exception of the Netflix show Heartstopper, which is nice and interesting to watch without being overdramatic. Also, there were Beautiful Thing and Maurice, two enjoyable movies that most viewers today probably hardly remember. Despite their positive ending they are serious in tone however, not exactly fun.
Red, White and Royal Blue burst into my world catching me by surprise and all but sweeping me off my feet; I immediately fell in love with the movie and am fully on page with anyone who is already asking for a sequel.
First off, I must say that this is one of the few cases where I found the movie to be better than the novel. I read it after having watched the movie, but I could not bring myself to like the characters.
The novel is told from Alex’ point of view, so we never get to know Henry’s; and I got the impression of following a bunch of rich kids without regular lives and routines having fun being noisy and obnoxious when they’re not busy with wanting to save the world, all of them equipped with their personal therapists and consuming this or another substance. I found it heartbreaking that Henry had been in love with Alex for a long time, never hoping that his feelings could be requited; and it did not shed a good light on Alex that for a long time, he did not realize that being intimate with Henry felt so good because he was with someone who actually cared for him.
The tone and story development of the movie is different and, in my opinion, superior. These Alex and Henry are about ten years older than in the novel: the actors are neither groomed to look younger nor do they act like they were. These are two adults, grown men who know what they’re doing; the feelings between them deepen very quickly (in the book, for Alex at the beginning it seems to be nothing more than a cross between a diversion and a challenge); and they soon take responsibility for each other and their families respectively political surroundings.
Nothing shows this more than the airport scene where they actually exchange ring and key, contrarily to the book where Alex keeps the ring together with the key around his neck. His official speech after their forced coming-out was much more straightforward and convincing than in the book, and he had written it himself, not his sister; also early in the movie, the Texas campaign is his very own initiative, contrarily to the novel where his mother sets him up to do it. All of these are narrative choices which in my opinion make the story much more enticing and the characters more relatable.
The movie Red, White and Royal Blue lives largely from the chemistry between the two protagonists; there is playful banter between them and lots of fun scenes and quips that I looked for in the novel in vain. (Except for a few jokes at Philips’ expense, pitifully.) Even in their most intimate moments, there always seems to be a twinkle in their eyes; the teasing begins when they’re not even friends yet. Their happiness is joyful and carefree, not founded on the intensity of feelings of couples who know they will be torn apart. The movie’s tone is a perfect balance: funny without being silly; serious without being admonishing; romantic without being sappy.
Some well-known clichés obviously are all there: having to talk to one another due to being locked in a room, a first kiss while both are tipsy, the lover hiding in the closet, the intolerant parent (grandparent in this case), the understanding sister… Nevertheless, the story is fresh, well-paced and never boring.
In my personal view, this movie will be remembered as marking a break in the storytelling of same-sex relationships: light-footed, entertaining and touching. While the book is a self-indulgent fanfiction, the movie is in its tone, set-up and storyline for all intents and purposes a fairy tale, except that instead of a princess we have a prince.
One of the things I loved most was that in the end, the couple does not reunite in a castle or a similar luxurious environment, but that for their happy ending they leave their wealth behind and retire to a simple, comfortable home and an everyday life.
I had a smile on my face almost the entire time while watching this movie. And I hope there will be many more light-hearted movies and novels centered on same-sex relationships following this, instead of the usual heart-wrenching dramas. It’s high time.

My ranking of SPN seasons (based only on their PLOT) pt. 2
In my previous post I'v covered the following:
15: Season 14
14: Season 15
13: season 7
12: season 3
11: season 6
Let's continue!
10. Season 13: this season was a HUGE disappointment to me. The first 6 episodes are brilliant, the writing is excellent, the actors gave their best performances, the scenes were well thought out, the pacing is slow but keeps the audience interested. The plot is intriguing: the heroes are mouring the death of Castiel while trying to both find a way to find their mother and to take care of Jack. In the meantime, the audience comes to understand that there's a new player in town: The Empty. It's mysterious, it seems evil, it seems total. I'm hooked. However, after episode 6 the plot sort of changes, it's like the first 6 episodes were a completely different season. By the end of season 12 we were already introduced to the existence of a parallel world and after episode 6 of season 13 we kind of explore more of it. The plot goes in that direction: the heroes must go to the alternate universe to save their mother. However, frankly, it's all very messy and overly complicated. I'm usually super pro AU, different timelines, same characters but from parallel realities and the like, but this time I was not engaged. I felt quite let down by this season (which also ends in a ridiculous battle that, once again, undermines everything that was said&done in season 5 but OKAY!).
9. Season 12: this season is a bit of a mystery to me. The main plot is: find Lucifer, consequently find Kelly Kleine and ultimately find Lucifer's son. So far so good. I like it. Clear, linear yet stimulating. The subplot is Mary Winchester and the British Men of Letters. Now, while I enjoyed Mary's character I utterly hated the whole BML arc. Just hated it. That Ketch? I hate him. I have no rational reason to explain why but I really hoped he would be killed off by the end of the season but surprise! He'll stick with us until season 15. Not amused. To be fair, the BML is not really a subplot, more of a parallel plot in that it has no correlation whatsover to the main plot. Also, some crazy shit happens in this season like Dean and Sam get caught by a super special police force, are imprisoned for like 3 months or something? unalive themselves, come back to life by making a reckless deal with Billie the reaper, and then go back to normal and no mention of it all is ever made. Well, okay writers' room. All in all, I gotta say that I place this season here in my ranking because it has some amazing episodes and the ending is a bomb. So I gotta give credit where credit's due.
8. Season 1: hear me out, I know that for some this is an iconic season and, honestly, fair enough. But, as any other season 1 of the majority of TV shows, the plot is not exactly exciting? Sure, we get to know our heroes and their backstories, but there are no allies, no other interesting characters, the 2 heroes seem to be living in a vacuum. The plot is simple, clean and intriguing enough to keep you watching, but it doesn't exactly keep you on your toes.
7. Season 10: oh my, oh my. Season 10. WELL. I have to confess that I hated this season with a passion. This is where I was tempted to stop watching Supernatural. I'll tell you why but first, the plot: Sam and Cas try to save Dean from the Mark of Cain. The subplots? Cas trying to bring angels back to Heaven (?), then the whole Castiel/Claire arc, then again Castiel vs Metatron, the mini and insignificant arc centered on Cole... Many, too many for my taste. The effect is that all these subplots are smoke in the eyes to cover for the total absence of creativity to solve the Mark of Cain plot. HOWEVER, however. Since I hated it with a passion, I've decided to watch some episodes again and to read some meta about it. And I gotta say, I was not paying attention. Sure, the plot is what it is and I won't change my mind about it, but ACTUALLY what happens in this season is that the REAL plot is characters' development, specifically Dean's and, to a lesser degree, Cas's. It also makes more sense if you understand that the whole season is about the Dean-Crowley-Cas love triangle. If you get that, you will enjoy the season. I didn't and, as a result, I didn't quite like it. But I gotta be honest and say that the writing for this season was pretty good. Finally, like season 7, this is a connecting season, it prepares us for season 11 where the real prize is. So, in retrospective, I think it deserves ranking number 7 because it didn't give us anything substantial in terms of events but the characters grow a lot after this season so good for them (and for us).

What the fuck is Riverdale actually about anyway?
that's not an easy question to answer, but I've been asked it a lot, so I'm going to do my best.
disclaimer: while the plot summaries are accurate, my interpretation of the themes is just my interpretation. other fans might disagree, and that's valid. unless it's about season 6. if you disagree with me about season 6, you're wrong. archie literally sings bread and roses. union busting is compared to mass murder. that one's not up for debate.
Season 1
Tumblr media
[ID: a promo image for riverdale season 1, showing the characters of betty, veronica, and archie in the diner, while cheryl, josie, and jughead pose dramatically outside the window. The words 'riverdale series premier tonight' are superimposed over the picture]
The Plot: the murder of a highschool student leads his classmates to discover that the adults in their small town are all hiding dark secrets. also there's a love triangle.
What it's actually about: mostly just that, tbh. there's not a lot of subtext in season 1. This is the season where they let showrunner Roberto Aguierra-Sacassa (he of glee and pretty little liars infamy) write stuff, before the writers all barricaded themselves in the writing room and started writing plots which are just about how much they hate him and his ideas
Season 2
Tumblr media
[ID: a screencap, showing archie posing with the vigilante gang he starts. the gang is made up of shirtless men wearing red balaclavas. archie is wearing a blue shirt and his face is uncovered, because when you're bating a serial killer it's important to let them know what you look like]
The Plot: A serial killer, the black hood, begins terrorising the town. Jughead accepts his birthright and joins a biker gang. Meanwhile Veronica's gangster father begins trying to take over the town so he can commit crimes with impunity
What it's actually about: this season is mostly a series of increasingly self-aware riffs on different horror and thriller subgenres. It's the transition between the uninspired first season and the genre-parodies that make up the rest of the show, so it's not as tight as other seasons. It does feature an episode which is almost entirely just the writer being real pissed off about aguira-sacassa framing a teacher-student relationship as romantic and consensual in season 1, in which the teacher in question is shown to be a serial abuser and then immediately brutally murdered because of it, and ngl, that was pretty based.
Season 3
Tumblr media
[ID: a screencap, showing the main actors playing their character's parents in a flashback to the first gargoyle king murder. the characters are dressed as fantasy stereotypes; a paladin, rogue, warrior-king, nobleman, and wizard. they are pointing their weapons at someone off screen]
The Plot: A new serial killer, the gargoyle king, begins terrorising the town and seems to be connected to a ttrpg which mind controls its players. Meanwhile a cult which claims to allow its members to contact the dead has started recruiting at the school. Also Archie is sent to prison for a murder he didn't commit and forced to participate in an underground fightclub but that only lasts like 5 episodes.
What it's actually about: wouldn't it be ridiculous if the shit people believed during the satanic panic was true? wouldn't that be insane? wouldn't it be unbelievable. wouldn't be insane if, say, a huge portion of trump voters still believed in the satanic panic? tell me you believe in the satanic panic, i dare you, i fucking dare you-
Season 4
Tumblr media
[ID: a screencap showing the entire cast dressed as Hedwig from Hedwig and the Angry Inch, with blond wigs, blue eye make-up, denim miniskirts, and high-healed boots]
The Plot: Jughead gets involved in a murderous battle to become the new ghost-writer for a hardy boys parody that ends with him faking his own death. Archie starts a boxing club for underpriviledged youth but Veronica's dad keeps trying to shut it down because he thinks Archie might be going to uncover his illegal paladium smuggling ring. Veronica becomes a bootlegger and opens a speakeasy because she wants her dad to respect her and thinks the only way to get that is by being the fucking worst before she realises that actually he sucks and she shouldn't care what he thinks.
What it's actually about: rich people are the fucking worst and we should probably just kill all of them. Listen. Listen, they're evil. It's very important to all the writers that you know this. They're all evil.
Season 5
Tumblr media
[ID: a screencap showing what is referred to in the show as mothman, a boney humanoid with no hair, ridges over its eyes, and boney stubs that may be the tops of wings growing out of its back]
The Plot: following a 7 year timeskip, the gang return to Riverdale as adults and try to stop the town from being discorporated and demolished by Veronica's dad to make way for a new property developement. Betty hunts a serial killer who's been targetting sex workers in the area. Also Cheryl starts a Maple Syrup-themed cult and controls bees with her mind.
What it's actually about: Honestly, this season is mostly just about genre parodies. They're good genre parodies, don't get me wrong, but there's not a lot of coherent theming.
Season 6
Tumblr media
[ID: a screencap, showing archie topless and tied to a saint andrew's cross, wearing a crown made of antlers. cheryl is standing in front of him wearing a red robe, elaborate headdress, and holding a knife, as she prepares to sacrifice him to ensure a good maple syrup harvest]
The Plot: after riverdale colides with a parallel universe, the gang find they have developed superpowers which are all related to their key character traits, which they must use to battle an evil wizard called percival pickens who is trying to destroy the world using a magical train. the genre parodies get weird this season, because a lot of them are comics riffs rather than movie or tv riffs. also there's an extended alan wake parody.
What it's actually about: Unionize. Unionize right the fuck now. Why are you not already in a union? Don't you know joining a union will literally improve your changes of getting into heaven? Look at Archie Andrews singing bread and roses and tell me you still think unions are bad you coporate bootlicking piece of shit!
Season 7 (so far)
Tumblr media
[ID: a promotional image for season 7, showing betty, archie, and veronica wearing costumes based on the archie comics of the 1950s. They are sitting in the diner, and Berry and Veronica are each holding one of archie's hands]
The Plot: as a result of stopping the evil wizard in S6, the gang are sent back in time to the 1950s with no memory of their previous lives, where they are once again in highschool. Jughead has been told by an angel to make the town more just as this will help the angel bring them back to their own time, but someone is commiting murders and framing kids in the highschool for them. also there's an extended reference to alex hirsch's fight with disney S&P over gravity falls, which I did not see coming
What it's actually about (so far): oh, you think this show would be better if it was set in the 50s? You do know the 50s were the fucking worst, right? You do know the apple pie america the archie comics are set in never existed, right? you do know people who insist the 50s were a great decade are all racist homophobic sexist pieces of shit, right? right?!

My scary movie today was one I could have on kind of in the background while I crocheted. I didn't want to have to read subtitles or really even follow a new story, so I did a rewatch of Misery.
Tumblr media
Oh, wait, I forgot--I did start a different movie, Don't Move, because I have been seeing buzz about it. But fifteen minutes in, it just felt like a woman-escaping-from-a-man-trying-to-kill-her movie with nothing else to offer despite its high concept premise (he injects her with a paralytic drug that will take 20 minutes to fully work, then lets her try to escape through the woods). There's ultra-minimal character development in the opening scene, I did not care about either of them. In fact, I was annoyed that she was the grieving mother of a dead child but it was treated as casually as sinking the parents' ship in Disn3y's Frozen; dead babies is the new dead parents as shorthand for trauma, I guess. He was neither charming nor frightening, and I just wished she was jogging through the forest away from a bear instead of this basic, boring guy. Men want to kill us, believe me we get it.
Tumblr media
I was tempted to not even write anything about Misery because it's one "everyone" has seen, but it does occur to me it came out in 1990 so people 20 or more years younger than me are actually pretty likely not to have seen it.
Misery is an adaptation of a Stephen King novel, wherein author Paul Sheldon (James Caan) crashes his car on an isolated, snowy mountain road, and is rescued by "his number one fan!," original stan Annie Wilkes (Kathy Bates). When Annie discovers Paul's latest book in the series he hates writing, Misery's Child, kills off the titular Misery Chastain, Annie is not going to put up with that cock-a-doodie nonsense, so using everything in her ex-baby-murdering-nurse arsenal to keep him trapped in her house (addicting him to pain meds in addition to his two broken legs and one broken arm, locking him in his room, threatening him with a gun), Annie forces Paul to write another Misery book, to right the wrongs he has done. Meanwhile , over the course of a month or two of imprisonment, he does what he can to escape.
Tumblr media
This was Kathy Bates' big debut film (written by William Goldman [The Princess Bride] and directed by Rob Reiner [When Harry Met Sally. . .]), and at the time it was considered newsworthy that a short, stout, plain-faced woman could come out of nowhere and get nominated for an Oscar (I'm sure she was a well-trained, working actor, but you know the typical 7-year-long "overnight success" story. Or maybe you don't because now everyone has a TV studio in her purse and can get famous just by drunkenly making a blow-job noise. But once upon a time many famous people became famous "overnight" after having worked in their field for several unacknowledged years.). In even bigger news, she won that Oscar. Deservedly so; Annie is by turns sympathetic, odd, off-putting, and downright scary, but Bates does not oversell it. It's a very believable, nuanced performance.
James Caan is doing his James Caan thing, which is to say he seems like an everyman, no genius but no dummy, capable but hindered. All I could think of while watching Misery was director Jon Favreau talking about what a super-serious, cocky asshole (my words) Caan was on the set of Elf. It's amazing what shitty behaviour famous people can get away with--Favreau spoke as if being an above-it-all dick made Caan cooler. But shouldn't that just make him a dick?
Anyway, in some moments the score seems to interfere (in that era there was still a lot of score in every scene of every movie, and it was just normal orchestral music, for the most part, none of the dissonant thundering tones that are the too-much soundtrack in today's horror movie landscape)--a pivotal scene depicting Annie's slide into depression is frightening to watch but also had distracting music playing under it. This film would look and sound much different if it were made in the 2020s. And with the current raft of horror remakes, I'm sure it will.
Misery has some scares and some (medical-grade) gore, and it's creepy and tense, but it's not a horror movie. It's a psychological thriller. So if you like a tense thriller with fantastic acting and a compelling story, and you haven't seen Misery, do yrself a favour.

Cat Corners a Mouse
@absolutebl:
The Cornered Mouse Dreams of Cheese AKA Kyuso wa Chizu no Yume wo Miru (Japan 2020) - Drama llama queers so queer and so dramatic it's like Japan is trying to PROVE something: obsession, cheating, break-up, reunion, then break up again, all of it explicit. This show is just SO JAPANESE. I can't even, but you should watch it and you'll know exactly what I mean. Something like My Personal Weatherman owes it's lineage to this kind of BL. If you like Japan naked, boney, emo, and smoking (hot & ciggy) you will love this, and should watch it. It's objectively amazing, I can't stand it, but I NEED people to talk about it more.
Absolute-kun gives so much and asks for so little. Here's my personal appreciation of this terrific film, for him and others interested in top shelf BL…
Spoilers ahead, but I felt Cornered Mouse (currently on Viki) was better the second time because I could soak up the details. If you haven’t seen it, you might enjoy it more with some background beforehand. It's a bit difficult to keep up with.
Tumblr media
The seme is Imagase Wataru (on left above), a gay man passionately in love with Otomo Kyoichi, a businessman married to a woman. Wataru (given name) is like a character out of American Noir… literally a chain-smoking private investigator.  Like a Noir protagonist, we may not like his means, but he has a code he lives by.
Kyoichi is handsome and sympathetic, but he places himself in situations where women eventually suggest a sexual liaison and his fatal character flaw is that he can’t say no to women. But the philanderer can say no to Wataru, to a point. He’s much rougher with Wataru’s feelings than he is with any of the women in the movie.
The Cornered Mouse Dreams of Cheese is based on a manga of the same name and reviewers say that it’s about 65% faithful to the original story. Another reviewer compared it to Wong Kar-wai’s In the Mood for Love, which is one of the best films ever made. I won’t claim Cornered Mouse is in Mood's league, but I would say it's close and that the main differences are Mood’s opulence and heterosexuality. Cornered Mouse is the best-crafted BL I’ve seen to date.
The film has some great writing, but prefers to show instead of tell, which requires a lot from the talented actors. Narita Ryo as Wataru is remarkable and a couple screenshots aren’t going to do his performance justice, but here he's hunched on a stool like a cat:
Tumblr media
Here's Wataru after Kyoichi wakes up to find him looking through the text messages on Kyoichi's phone... in the same room:
Tumblr media
Narita Ryo transcends the AbsoluteBL bar for great acting. Elsewhere, he’s not afraid to look ugly in a scene.
Obviously, this film’s in the BL category of “gay man converts straight man”, generally considered a doomed goal within the queer experience. Somehow, Cornered Mouse’s river of details makes this seem realistic, mostly due to the straight lead’s indecisiveness and Wataru’s persistence... and his fellatio techniques.
Negative reviewers of Cornered Mouse never dispute that it's well-crafted. They tend to complain about the ending and that the characters were difficult to like. Yet, the movie is about accepting people for who they are. If you don’t believe me… well, here’s the director Yukisada Isao:
Tumblr media
My hot take is that Cornered Mouse is less about the lead characters accepting each other for who they are and more about the audience accepting them despite Kyoichi’s duplicity and Wataru’s lack of ethics.
The audience is also asked to accept the dilemmas inherent within the “gay man converts straight man” BL subgenre. At a key moment, well along in the men’s sexual relationship, Kyoichi’s college lover has called them both separately for drinks. She makes Kyoichi choose between them, resulting in this exchange:
Tumblr media
Kyoichi (to Wataru): “I could never choose you. No straight guy would. You get it, don’t you?”
Wataru, smirking: “Yes.”
Tumblr media
Kyoichi then goes to bed with the ex-girlfriend, but can’t perform. He returns to Wataru and is “punished” for his hubris.
Previously, Wataru has asked to be the top during sex, but was rebuffed. After getting drilled, Kyoichi treats his relationship with Wataru with new respect. Yes, he will break up with him and even get engaged with a woman, but he goes through the formalities of a break up, on par with a heterosexual relationship. He’s far more concerned with Wataru’s feelings, even as he’s crushing him, than he was before that key moment.
The film asks its contemporary audience to come to terms with this more traditional implication: that Kyoichi “turned gay” by taking the sub role.
The other problem for many reviewers was Cornered Mouse’s open ending. They thought it was open, anyway. I didn’t. Kyoichi breaks off his engagement to a lovely woman and vows to “prepare” for the return of his lover Wataru. Kyoichi has always been the reluctant partner. Throughout the film, Wataru pursued Kyoichi no matter his target’s resistance... stalking, blackmailing, pleading... as if he had no limits. Of course, he’ll be back for more. Besides, in the manga, it’s made clear that’s what happens.
Wataru talking earlier in the film:

RWRB thoughts
My thoughts after 1.5 viewings (yes, 1.5. I have watched it once and then re-watched certain scenes, but haven't made my way through a full re-watch yet.)
What I loved/like/squealed about:
nervous Alex at the wedding
Nora being all speechless when led away by Bea
The whole cake incident - it did not happened as I was expecting (don't ask me what I was expecting, I have no earthly idea), but I loved the whole thing
Zahra hitting Alex with the pillow. Perfect character moment
the silly height arguments that pop up several times. I think these are extra fun for book readers as it acknowledges the difference between the book and the actors in the movie but keeps the general teasing about height in the movie
Actually, Zahra in general was just so perfectly done
Amy being badass and also a loving dog mom (that wink at the hospital? the 'do I need to clear the room'? Amy is the best)
I still don't know what an equerry is. But I'll take a Shaan any day
The closet scene was really well done. It really allowed for the development of the rest of their relationship.
The way they did the texts with the voice overs and then Henry appearing in Alex's bed - I may have swooned a bit
The New Years party looked like what I imagine a cool party would look like (people do not invite me to cool parties and they never will).
All the representation in the film. Female black PM of the UK? Check! Gender fluid party attendees? Check? Some girl on girl flirting? Check! Trans actor? Check!
Percy's pink hair
Nora's red outfit. Damn girl.
Henry's reaction when Alex grabs his hips at the New Year's party - absolute gold
All of Henry's pining during the New Year's party was just perfectly painfully wonderful
The 'woah' of the woman who walks in when Nora and Alex are talking about his hook ups with men
Alex being totally distracted by Henry arriving at the dinner and looking every inch the son of James Bond that he is
That kiss in the red room was... hmmm... quite.... intense
Also Henry pointing at books after they were interrupted n the red room might have been the most ridiculously funny moment of the whole movie for me
Commanding Henry in the bedroom
Shots of Henry's ass bouncing on a horse being played between shots of the tack room rendevous. I think we all understand why Alex was so, motivated shall we say
The tenderness and intimacy of that Paris scene. Love making indeed.
Henry singing karaoke. Nora bopping along like all of us would like to be doing as fans no doubt
The Casey McQuinston book cameo!
Henry trying to make his burdens clear to Alex but Alex not getting it until they have their blow out. Also drenched Alex in this scene with Henry in his fancy housecoat was very visually appealing
The V&A scene made me cry. Henry talking about the only place he can find peace and have dreams of a happy life he doesn't think he'll ever have. Alex playing the song right away and making his dreams come true. Tears. Happy Tears.
The EXCHANGE! the signet ring. the house key. just kill me now
Seeing Henry's reaction to the email leak and how desperate he was to talk to Alex, how terrified he was, how betrayed. Hats off to Nicholas Galitzine for his acting (for the whole movie, but that scene in particular was just excellent)
Shaan and Zahra reveal! Yes!
Alex'a speech. Amazing.
Baby.
Stephen Fry as the king. What a choice. If you don't know how ironic this is, well go use your goggle skills.
Henry sticking up for himself. The tears in his eyes when he sees the public support
The way they show Alex's passion for politics and helping people.
The way they show Henry's passion for literature, history, etc. And also his frustration at not being able to make an impact and help people they way he wants to and how much he admires Alex for what he is doing
Things I missed/didn't love:
Alex not being a child of divorce. Also how his parent's relationship seemed ambiguous for a long time in the movie (for me anyway. Maybe I was just hoping they weren't together? like in the book?)
Not enough moments of Nora being a stats geek. She said she analyzed data but we don't get a moment where she gives Alex the odds. Sad.
Alex not having his sexual realization. I can see how this trims things down for the film, but I missed it
Not using the Miguel character as well as they could have. Again I can see this being trimmed out for time. I thought this was a reasonable replacement for the Luna subplot. Would have liked more in terms of fall out - did he have insider knowledge? Did he help get the emails leaked?
I would have loved more time of the texts to build the foundation of their relationship
I would have loved even more to have had more email time. I know this is tricky to get on film, but I really missed the sheer romance and intimacy we get in from the emails in the book. It makes the leak so much more impactful
I wanted more David. I love dogs people. I needed more beagle content!
Not enough Pez! Also why was he not Pez? Percy? Percy who? I loved when we saw him and I wanted more.
Same can be said for Nora
Did this film get an R rating from, maybe 2 'fuck's and one gay sex scene where no dicks or asses were shown? (Yes, one ass was shown, but it a completely different scene) Is that all it takes? Boo to the rating people. BOOOOOO.
The transition from the fight between Henry and Alex in his apartments to them leaving from to the V&A didn't feel quite right to me. It was awkward. Each scene itself was wonderful, just one right after the other felt like something was missing.
I honestly, completely, wholeheartedly loved this film. I know I will be watching it over and over. It will have a permanent place in my comfort film rotation. I think all the actors in the film did an amazing job. Both Nicholas and Taylor bought a lot of depth to their roles and really brought them to life so, so well. Their chemistry was completely believable and I rooted for them every step of the way.
For me, the book will remain my main source material for these characters and this story. But this film is such a great complement to the book. A different, but parallel story. I agree with director Matthew Lopez saying this was a work of fanfiction in its own right. It is not the same, but the heart and soul of the book and the two main characters is all there. Not sure I could have asked for much more.
(except for any missing scenes/extended scenes. i'm asking for those. please)

in lieu of a commonplace book: a new term
saturday, sept 2 — sunday, oct 1, 2023
been running around and then lolling around and then running some more, and the last time i really understood what day it was i think it was aug 28?? though i have gotten a new wall calendar for my room so hopefully that...makes a difference?
anyway. lots of things viewed, read, played etc., but this is the ilcb where i talk about michael sheen's sex show. y'all have been warned.
reading finished this month:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
light from uncommon stars, ryka aoki — there was a lot about this one to like, and lots of things that i think...could have worked better? the dialogue stood out to me as weirdly stilted. the author got so much good, fluid, lyrical writing into the descriptions of the violin maker, all the meaningful resonances of the violin, and everything else kind of paled to that. a lot of vision in this one, and hopefully readers who are less picky than i am will be able to chill out and enjoy the representation, the demons and space and music and donuts.
the empress of salt and fortune, nghi vo (audio) — stunning. short, but suggests/captures an entire world. adored the emphasis on little artifacts and material details, the flashes of actual history and the absolutely elegant touches of fantasy.
clouds of witness, dorothy l. sayers (audio) — a lord peter wimsey mystery is always a wonderful excuse to listen to a voice actor just go nuts with posh RP accents, but i do miss my girl harriet even as i know that i'm reading all the prequels on purpose :(
one last stop, casey mcquiston —i didn't think i liked casey mcquiston before, but this book was genuinely a delight. is this how everyone felt about rwrb? the romance tropes worked for me this time, the dialogue here felt natural and fun (especially the secondary characters), and the little turns of phrase and comparisons and twists hit just like you'd hope. the history! the queer community! the roommates! and you know what, fuck it. a little tooth-rotting fluff can be good for the soul.

listening bounced off of the new olivia rodrigo (sorry 😥) and the new chappell roan (sorry sorry 😥) and won't be trying to articulate why for now, haven't spent enough time with the new mitski (liked it on the first listen though) so this section of the post is going to go to noah kahan's stick season, which i have listened to on repeat for the last few weeks. i think i've got a favorite song chosen, only to notice something new about another one—it's not just 'northern attitude' and 'homesick,' though obviously the lines 'i'm mean because i grew up in new england' and 'i was raised out in the cold' / 'i was raised on little light' do fucking resonate. but so does. most of it.
youtube
at some point i have added both 'halloween' and 'the view between villages' to my liked songs, and for some reason i get a real kick out of the line in 'new perspective' about calling an intersection downtown just because it's gotten a target. but anyway here's 'stick season', simply for the line 'and i'll dream each night / of some version of you / that i might not have / but i did not lose.'
watching masters of sex (2013). if i'm honest, this is a little bit of a dodge—i watched the entire first season of this show back at the beginning of the month, it fully took over my staycation cat-sitting gig time, and then i haven't been able to get back to it now that i'm home. i think i'm scared to dip back in, honestly? because i can't let myself get sucked back in that strongly.
this show is maddening. it's fascinating. don't ask me if it's good. it's based on this book by thomas maier, which i may have to actually read, because i keep getting distracted wondering about how much the script is changing, adapting, etc. i've taken my intro psych class (and then some), i had to read about masters and johnson, and i feel like the show must be taking liberties— but also, is it?
Tumblr media
this show isn't mad men, but it does have that period midcentury / postwar aesthetic, and they do a very good job mentioning bits of history/current events that tie it to the actual history. and there is actual history here, and i love that. but also, i have never been this aware of a show making choices for baldly strategic reasons— you can so tell that this show was written for weekly release, plot threads come and happen for an episode or two at most, only then to be either dropped (for future use if necessary?) or solved.
then again, there's some very competent and tightly-constructed stories, e.g. the episode about the nuclear attack drill and how everyone behaved, how it did and did not matter to them, how their worlds were and weren't also symbolically ending in the intertwined subplots. also a big fan of the one where they're hearing about the new research on the female orgasm! and freud! it's so interesting to have this all framed as ~the frontiers of science!~ and then see how in some ways it's more progressive than you'd expect (than we are today still, on primetime).
Tumblr media
the other lead, lizzy caplan, is new to me, but she kills it, kills it, as ginny johnson. allison janney is in this?! caitlin fitzgerald aka tabitha from succession is in this? see what i mean, like half the cast is people who either were in big prestige tv enterprises or who would go on to be, which to me says something about the way this show was viewed as a good move for your acting career in 2013. (link to a piece of historical journalism discussing this show and nbc hannibal as not-to-be-missed viewing for 2013. wild.)
Tumblr media
i've never thought this much about how television has changed from the early 2010s to now. this feels like a bridge, connecting pre-peak TV to where we've ended up, where it's not as 'prestige-y' as it would be now, but is still going for the sophistication and intensity. michael sheen wears a funny little bow tie and got a golden globe nom for this, but he could not be further from aziraphale here—it's like watching a totally different person (acting_patrickstewart.gif), he smiles so little and is routinely so awful to various women in his life, including those he purports to love. i distract myself watching him make acting choices in response to some of the (frankly wild) things that they've given masters to say and do, and that's. all i'll say about that.
okay that was mortifying. let's move on.
playing have now completed (for the second time) the first act investigations in pentiment, with new scenes unlocked (the spinning bee! storytime with brother sebhat! midnight in the library!) and still not a solid answer to the mystery. methinks there is a message there, but we won't know for sure until i can next find a time for me to continue with either of my play-through companions. when i play with A, we make choices based on 'i would never pick that if i was playing on my own, but since you're here, you'll be the voice of chaos egging me on,' which if nothing else has led to a lot of cackling.
Tumblr media
things this game also excels at, besides narrating women's stories and moral ambiguity: animating children and animals. we shook hands with this dog and it was perfect.
making hungry for a handicraft. sewed a bra back together (unpictured), glued a handle back onto this little ceramic pitcher, glued a hairclip back to its backing and a slipper sole back to its upper slipper (all hail having appropriate adhesives for a job!) watched as squirrels made a meal of the valiant, late-blooming tomatoes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
working on the court romances chapter has a new direction, but it does feel a little like an albatross around my neck at this point. i sent my committee the body and soul debates chapter, but at my most recent meeting it was clear most of them hadn't finished reading it so the discussion was largely 'where's chapter 2? why isn't that here also?' they still gave me the equivalent of a little pat on the head and said 'keep going', so. i'm taking drastic steps (enlisting other on campus resources, my therapist, etc.) to try and fucking make some fucking progress.
