IFHY | kim sunoo x reader
chapter 17 - lord is testing me
warnings ‼️‼️
cursing, food/eating, that’s all i think?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
your game ended with your team winning, you helped clean up around the chairs before jogging back to the bleachers that hina, heejin and chae. and it didn’t take long to notice the seven boys next to them, you just assumed they got here after you got off the bleachers to warm up. you didn’t bother to look for sunoo, not wanting to possibly see the same expression you did yesterday night. “good job yn!” hina squealed, almost tackling you into a tight hug
“thanks hina” you replied back with not nearly as much energy as she had. “congrats on the win yn” heeseung said, he knew you were probably mad at him for what happened. “thanks hee” you said before giving him a side hug and thanking the other boys for coming. “are we going now?” you asked hina, she had a somewhat guilty look on her face. “hina” you groaned.
she muttered out a quick sorry before leaning in to whisper into your ear, “listen i promised jake i would go out with him and he didn’t bring his car but heeseung is here so he can probably give you a ride right?”
it’s fine, and i’ll ask him about it. have fun hina” you whispered back before she nodded to jake and left. “good job yn, you played good,” chae said as she hugged you, “hoon and me are going to walk to a cafe around here, see you later”
you nodded, “see you later chae, be safe, i love you.” you quickly called out to which she replied with an equally quick love you. “damn bitch are we the only people who are single” heejin whispered to which you sighed to
“hee can you give us a ride, please” you asked, you know he wouldn’t leave you without a ride or make you walk. especially not after playing 5 whole sets, “of course yn”
you followed him out to his car, you and heejin walking behind the group of boys. niki and sunoo infront of you, talking about something you couldn’t hear.
“do you ever plan to talk to him” heejin whispered, you felt that tightening feeling in your throat that prevented you from talking without letting out an ugly sob. you shrugged to avoid talking and possibly breaking down infront of everybody.
soon they all piled into the car, heejin getting in on the opposite side. it was niki and sunoo in the middle with jungwon squeezed between them, then heejin next to niki and jay in the passenger and the only open spot being next to sunoo.
you tossed your bag into his trunk before climbing into the car. niki kept complaining about how squished he was, making jungwon and sunoo scoot over, resulting in you and sunoo being pressed against eachother. “sorry” he whispered, glancing at you. you had a small layer of sweat coating your forehead and your once neat hair was now disheveled. you were wearing a hoodie with the schools logo on the back of it and still in shorts and slides. “its okay” you quickly replied, not even glancing at him. you made that mistake last night and didn’t want to make it again.
niki and jungwon were talking about niki’s dance class and graduation. you stared down at your hands that were on either thigh, you noticed they were the same. something in you wanted to grab his hand but you couldn’t, you were scared that you had already pushed too many boundaries. “do you guys want food?” heeseung asked, glancing back at the five of you. niki immediately said yes follower by jungwon, heejin then sunoo and finally you.
as he pulled into the drive through, you felt a sudden drowsiness wash over you. you tried fighting it but you had been up and running around a court for hours. soon you feel asleep, sunoo felt a weight on his shoulder and heard soft snores. his eyes widened at the sight then softening, smiling before relaxing his shoulder so you could sleep more comfortably. soon he rested his head on top of yours, falling asleep himself.

4dopt is a virtual pet site that, imo, nicely bridges the gaps between games like Neopets, Flight Rising, and Furvilla. All of the species are created by other players on the site, which handles the technical bits such as layering and recoloring for you, and you can choose where your species appears, what it can do, its stats, what other players can do to it, and more. Even the items are made by the players, and they can decide everything about what those items do, also.
The modern comparison would probably be "gameified toyhou.se" (...roughly) but as someone who was deeply embedded in the adoptables scene on dA circa 2009-2012, it's more like a gameified version of that community/era. You post your guys, you collect other people's guys, you flex with your prettiest of guys, or make silly posts with your memey little guys, or do some roleplaying, whatever floats your boat.
The site itself has this nostalgic old-web feel to it (i.e. it's a little bit jank), but to me personally that makes it super charming because it again reminds me of old dA vibes. The community is super nice and welcoming, which boosts morale and creativity in the playerbase; people WANT to post their own art and generally seem to feel safe doing so. Personally I made a species within my first 48 hours of joining (though it hasn't been accepted yet. Yet) and there's accepted species and items across all skill levels and art styles.
Because it's all user-submitted, and guidelines on what you can submit are very loose (just don't be an asshole or steal art), there's a huge variety of critters to collect, ranging from intricately detailed beasts with lots of variety, like Aerocahsts, Ether Strays, and Helicadras:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Or extremely simple but highly hoardable tiny things, like Peeperts, Weevaes, and Weggos:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Or kinda "traditional" adoptables that more closely resemble real animals (or their sparkle versions, if you want) like Squeakies, Pinnygigs, and Canine Companions:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Every adopt is unique and charming in its own way and the immense amount of customization you can do (on most adopts; some species have recoloring disabled for one reason or another) usually means you can take something you think is kinda eh and elevate it to something you're REALLY obsessed with. (My Aerocahst above was BUTT UGLY when she was born. Her colors were terrible and everything was clashing so much. But a bit of effort took her from "😬" to "my 'main' adopt that I use for everything" and that RULES.)
Probably my biggest complaint with the game (as someone who's been playing for.. uh... 4 days) is that it can be kind of slow to get enough slots for all the adoptables you want unless you pay for premium, which helps keep the site active and growing. My personal playstyle seems to be "collect 1 million little guys and have like 5 really customized high-effort-on-my-part beautiful adopts" so I ended up paying the $10 to get slots faster (and also because I've been instantly enamored by this project and want to see it grow!!) but it's also entirely possible to just power-level your account until you can have legions of adoptables.
Also, because the site's still kind of a fragile baby, registration is only open on Saturdays, which is understandable but also sucks because I want to pitch this site to as diverse of a set of artists as possible just to see what would happen, lol. People are already coming up with some really creative, out-of-the-box designs, and that's only gonna get better as the site ages, artist's skills improve, and new artists join up.
Also I'm giving this review from the perspective of an artist who has always loved adopts but it's entirely possible to play this game if you can't or don't want to draw. Just collecting guys and customizing them to your liking is A-OK. But also it seems like a pretty good community to start flexing your art muscles in if you wanna!
i signed up for 4dopt today and im havin fun check it out but also I discovered that the default names each critter is generated with pulls from a user-submitted list of words and there doesn't seem to be any kind of limit to how many words I can submit at once and. Oh god. The hyperfixations. The devs did not consider the hyperfixations. I love words, looking for words, learning new words, and sharing new words with other people. I have a list of words on one side of me and the word submit page on the other and I've never been more actualized in my life. i have submitted over 130 words

Dancing Bondrewd
An alternate first meeting between Arette and Bondrewd that also gives a hint as to his twisted reasoning for why uhe chooses children for his work.
. I low key consider this the canon now. Its part of a larger “All in One” 30 chapter fic that I probably wont share considering its all things i have already published.
But to have it all in one place, flowing from chapter to chapter, I kinda needed that for my own sanity.
But yeah, here you are, I hope you enjoy it!
On the day of Arette’s twenty-fourth birthday, there was a great festival. Wakuna the Chosen had returned to Orth, and in his possession a new special grade relic. The Guild was calling it “Zoaholic”. This discovery meant more wealth for the town, a welcome gift.
Arette was in her nicest dress, weaving through the crowd and making her way to a pastry stand, with little meat and custard pies shaped like Wakuna’s whistle. Her mother would have called it ridiculous. But Arette wanted one immediately.
A man was next to her at the stall, a child’s hand in his own. He was a sallow skinned man who looked like he was exhausted, a black whistle around his neck and resting atop an off white-cravat. He was not handsome by any means, but he wasn’t ugly either. An average man. His voice however was quite pleasant. “Which one do you want?”
“Uh… I want… I want the one with beef.” The child said tugging on his hand.
“Alright… Two meat pies. The beef one, and a pork belly.”
Arette looked at him as their orders were being fetched. She smiled, and made small talk. “Is he your son? He is very cute.”
He looked at her. His eyes had dark circles under them. “No. He is one of the orphans. One of the older children took his spending money. I am getting him a pie.”
“That is very kind of you.” Arette said, watching as the man handed the pie to the child, ruffling his head and then nudging him along.
“I wish I could have all of them.” he said with a hint of bitterness, watching the boy run off.
“You like children, I take it?”
“I do. I want to save all of them. Take them all into my home and raise them. Costs too much though.”
“It sounds like you want to be a savior.” Arette teased, ordering her own pie, one filled with custard. She followed him as he moved on, taking his coat sleeve into her hand.
“You were on Wakuna’s team. I can tell. You look like someone who’s just gotten up from a deep delve.”
His eyes darted to where she took his coat in hand, then he looked just above her head. “Observant, aren’t you?”
Arette pulled her moon whistle out from between her breasts, his eyes darting to that next. The chain on it was far too long and often got lost in her cleavage. She had to get a shorter one. “Observant and familiar.”
“Ah, I see. You too are a delver.” He seemed to perk up, and looked her in the eyes now, interest sparked. “How far have you gone down.”
“I only just managed a trip past that old ship in the third layer. I found a second grade on that delve.”
They spent an hour talking about a few exploits, though compared to his, her’s seemed so meager. Eventually she finally got him to tell her about the Zoaholic.
“It looks like a butt?”
“When inactive, yes. When we found it it looked more like a flower made of flesh.”
“It must do something amazing.” Arette said, looking at him. He had a glassy eyed look, eyes darting wildly. “Are you okay?”
“I am… fine. Distracted.”
Arette stood up, taking his hand in hers. “Dance with me.”
“I beg your pardon?”
“Dance with me, silly. It's my birthday today, so give this girl a dance.” She pulled him to his feet, dragging him into the street where other people danced. His feet were clumsy, and he watched them as he moved with her, but in time he was able to mirror her foot work. A simple jig, the two of them twirling around one another.
“Feeling better?” She asked, grinning at him
His chapped lips curled in a slight smile. “Yes. It's not as… Dizzying now.”
“More spinning made you less dizzy huh? You are a little weird.” Arette teased, she took the front of his coat in her hands, leaning in closer. “I want another gift, if that's okay.”
“Oh? Very well, what do you-”
She planted a kiss on his chapped lips, pulling away and grinning. “Let's keep dancing. Hm?”
He opened his mouth to speak, but a woman grabbed Arette by the arm. Older and blond.
Her mother.
“Arette, what are you doing? Kissing that man?” She hissed, grip tight, “Don’t you know who he is?”
Arette pulled her arm out of her mother’s grip, scowling. “I moved out of the house, Momma. I can kiss whoever I want. This man just got back from the delve with Wakuna-”
“You stupid girl. That man is a-”
“Was it gossip you heard schmoozing it up to the other ladies?” Arette interrupted, “Acting like you care about what Delvers do? Well I don’t care what you have to say. Go away and leave me alone.”
She took the man’s hand and led him away from her mother, off to find another place to dance. Thankfully her mother did not follow her.
“I am so sorry about that.” Arette groaned, “She never stops with all of that worrying.”
“She is just trying to protect you.” the man said gently, and Arette grinned at him.
“She wants to protect me from a man who wants to save every child he sees? Oh sure. Sounds terrifying.”
They danced until the festival ended, and Arette took his arm in her hands, clinging to him. “Are you doing anything more tonight?” she asked. She tried to be as obvious as possible that she desired his company.
“I am afraid I am.” He said, looking at a group of delvers that were approaching him. Black and moon whistles both. “I need rest. I plan on returning to the abyss soon.”
“Oh, I understand.” Arette said. “Maybe we will run into each other some time down there.”
“Perhaps.”
He watched her go, giving him one final wave goodbye. He then turned, the group of men parting so he could pass them.
By the next morning the just discovered special grade relic, Zoaholic, was gone. Vanished without a trace.

if you keep moving, you will come to a better place
zukka, abo, omega!Zuko, alpha!Sokka, slow burn When Zuko presented as an Omega, he knew Ozai would find the worst possible way to get rid of him. He is to be married off to anyone who wins a stupid tournament. Zuko has other plans though, which include escaping and living his life however he wants. But it proves harder than expected. Cue Sokka enters his life, a non-bending Alpha unlike any he ever met. A marriage that may or not happen. And a long, weird roadtrip that shows Zuko the rest of the world is not as cruel as his Father made him believe.
AO3
Chapter 1:
Zuko was ten when he presented. Earlier than expected, and worse than anyone could predict. He still remembered those days vividly. After a visit to the doctor, he was scolted back to his rooms, which he was forbidden to leave. Nobody would look at him. The guards, usually gentle sometimes, avoided him. He could hear his mom and dad screaming at each other from the other side of the Royal Wing. Was he sick? Was he going to die? He didn’t feel like he was dying. He just felt alone, and scared.
When the door finally opened he almost jumped from the bed, waiting to see Uncle Iroh. His uncle never lied to him. But Azula waltzed in with a smile that never brought anything good.
“Guess what I just found out, Zuzu~”
“Go away, Azula. I’m not in the mood.”
Since their last presentation of Firebending progress to their grandfather, she’d been more smug than usual. Azula ignored him, tapping a finger to her lips as she studied him. She knew how to press his buttons.
“What?!” Zuko snapped.
“Hm… nothing. Just, I thought Omegas were prettier. But you still look the same.”
The boy’s heart froze.
Omega. Omega?
“You think it’ll make it harder to marry you off?” she continued, “Since, you know, that’s all you are good for now. Maybe they’ll give you to some old, gross man. Actually, I’m kinda sad. I really wanted to keep seeing you embarrass yourself in front of grandfather, but Omegas aren’t allowed to Firebend and all,” Azula chuckled, “At least it explains why you are so bad at it. Omegas are just… not made for that stu- Hey! I’m not done, come back!”
But Zuko wasn’t listening anymore, he was running before he noticed. Omega. He was an omega. Dad may not like him very much but he wouldn’t… he couldn’t right? Ursa and Ozai’s screams were too close, and before the guards could stop him, Zuko was opening their door.
“Dad!” he cried. He was an Omega. He was crying. He felt like the smallest thing in the world, yet he gathered all his courage for that moment. Zuko’s tiny fingers grabbed the red robes of his dad, his mom was trying to pull him away but he refused to budge, Dad, please! I- I don’t care that I’m just an omega, I promise I’ll try harder. I’ll get better! I’ll… I’ll train more, and master Bending, please, please don’t give me to an old man. Please, I pro-”
That part he remembered in flashes: Ozai’s pure look of disgust. His hand moving. Zuko braced for a slap. The heat, the unforgiving heat, he didn’t expect. It burned. It burned. It burned. Something smelled bad. The bright light died, and as everything went black, he heard his mom crying.
“Look at what you’ve done,” was the first thing Ozai spat when he woke up. The pain almost made it hard to hear. Actually it…  was kinda hard to hear. Why was his face covered up? What had happened? “Do you know how hard it’ll be to find you a mate now? Nobody wants a weak, scarred Omega.”
Ozai didn’t visit him again. Neither did Azula. Those days were spent in silence, in pain, Ursa cradling his body. Zuko wondered which of them was shaking.
He had ten years, still Zuko never got fully used to the scar. The way people turned their faces when they saw it was maybe part of the problem. He knew what they whispered about him, about how ugly it was, nobody would want a mate like that. Any partner he managed to find would certainly be just after his position. Correction: any partner his Father managed to find.
Zuko guessed he would find out in a few hours.
He stared at his reflection. Maids and servants only prepared married Omegas, Prince or not he was supposed to get ready by himself. It didn’t look so bad. His long dark hair half secured on a high ponytail with the Fire Nation symbol. The red robes also fitted him well, even though they were a pain in the ass to walk in. Zuko would gladly kill whoever had decided Omegas needed to wear so many layers of clothing. The most important part, the makeup, was missing. He didn’t exactly despise that part, but he despised how the paint would only bring more attention to his scar. He had angrily scrubbed it all off, better to endure his Father’s anger for one more day than to be mocked for walking around like a half-painted clown.
Mothers were allowed to help their unmarried Omega kids. Ursa probably would’ve managed to paint him well, she would’ve looked over his shoulder to their reflection and said Zuko looked beautiful. But she was gone.
Zuko let his fingers touch the golden earrings. They used to belong to her. That was when the door finally opened.
Uncle Iroh gave him a half-hearted smile.
“Are you ready?”
He had been the only person Zuko could count on for a decade. When he was banished from learning Firebending for being an Omega, Uncle Iroh would sneak him out of the palace late at night and teach him. When Zuko was prohibited from fighting, Uncle Iroh gave him double swords as a secret birthday gift and taught him how to master them. And when Zuko told him he was going to run away after today’s celebrations, it was Uncle Iroh who hugged him tightly and promised to help. Even though it would break his heart, Uncle Iroh always helped.
Zuko often thought his Uncle was probably the only decent Alpha in the world.
“Yes.”
Here is how an ideal life for an Omega would take place in the Palace: they would learn just enough to manage a household and attract a mate. After sixteen, Betas and Alphas would start courting them. By eighteen, it was normal to be married off to a mate that could bring status to the Omega’s family.
Here is what Ozai decided: Zuko would learn enough to manage a household. Nobody wanted to court him, he was too damaged, too much of a black sheep. Instead of marrying him to some foreign Prince or Princess, he decided to host a mating tournment. He invited nobles from all the world to fight for Zuko. Dogs fighting over a scrap of meat.
The marriage wasn’t even going to be officiated in the Fire Nation if a foreigner won. Zuko was theirs, and therefore no longer Ozai’s problem. Azula, who to nobody’s surprise presented as an Alpha at twelve, was his heir and all he cared about. Soon there would be high status Betas and Omegas begging for her hand and Zuko would only be on the way.
As always. Always on the way. A blemish on his plans, reflected by the one on his face.
Ozai didn't even spare him a glance when Zuko arrived at the podium, sitting on the smallest throne right next to Azula. The Palace courtyard was bursting with excitement. It was impossible to figure out which of those people came to fight or to watch. The complete lack of respect for the noble participants was unlike the Fire Lord, who would plan even the tiniest detail, showing there was a hierarchy and his place was at the top. It was just another sign of his disinterest, that tournament was not for him, it was to humiliate Zuko. And now, surely with any high ranking nobles leaving for what they would consider an insult to their status, he was left with…
“The rabble is very interested in your hand, Zuzu.”
He had an escape plan. It was not a question of if, but when. He had it all ready. He could firebend, he could fight, he had the money and supplies Iroh smuggled to him. Still, seeing how many old, terrible Alphas and Betas were in line to mate him was terrifying. Zuko’s biggest fear for years stared back as dozens of eyes: being forcefully mated off, raped and diminished to a baby-making machine until his death.
Happened with his mom, why wouldn’t he have the same fate?
A warm hand gripped his shoulder. Uncle Iroh sat on the last throne.
The drums begin playing, a mimeckry of his heartbeat.
No. No panicking. Zuko was gonna get out. A few hours, and he was out.
“By the way,” Azula whispered by his ear, looking as bored as ever, “Your runaway kit is ridiculous.”
Her hand grabbing his arm was all that stopped him from jumping away. The pit on his stomach grew, it felt about to swallow him whole.
“I don’t know what you are talking about,” he croaked.
“C’mon. You are not that dense,” she relaxed her grip, “Father doesn’t know about it. Yet.”
“What do you want, Azula?”
The first nobles stepped on the makeshift arena. Zuko couldn’t care less.
“A deal. Father just wants to get rid of you, but General Zhao has other plans. He thinks if he wins, you’ll give him some political leverage. He’ll probably try something stupid like killing me and putting one of your… spawn on the throne. I know, a complete idiot. I’ll kill him by the end of the year, I swear he is so boring…”
“What are you talking about,” his throat felt dry. Zhao was never part of any of his plans. Azula clearly knew that.
“Well. He set some of his agents on you," she shrugged, as if those were old news, "Here is what’s gonna happen: If he wins, you are on the heart of the Fire Nation, surrounded by his men and legally mated. There is no way you could escape.”
“Yes, I can,” Zuko gritted his teeth.
One of the contestans was knocked out. People cheered. The second round began.
“Be realistic, Zuzu. Now, if he doesn’t win one of the two things will happen: either some low-level Fire Noble wins. You are still stuck here. And his agents will probably try to make a widow out of you and he'll sweep in, oferring to take you. Daddy will agree, of course, you know it. Or, some Earth Kingdom nobody wins. Zhao is too much of an idiot to know how to infiltrate the Earth Kingdom, but he is set on making his agents follow you to the borders. Maybe he’ll try to make it look like an accident on the road. Who cares. The thing is, you will be out, then you can run. Unless… someone tells daddy dearest of your little plan.”
Zuko’s scar throbbed. He thought he was being so smart. But at every corner, Azula seemed to take pleasure in proving him wrong. He looked angrily at her with his good eye.
“What do you want ? Spit it out.”
If he weren't so immersed in his own desperation, Zuko would’ve been shocked at the way her face changed. Few people could see when her mask of cruelty slipped, and then, for a moment, Azula looked heartbroken. It was gone as soon as it appeared. He briefly wondered if he had imagined it.
“I won’t tell on you if you find Ty Lee for me. She is on Kyoshi Island. Tell her,” she forced the next words out, low and too sincere, and making sure Ozai wasn’t listening, “I wish there was another way.”
Zuko was taken aback.
“But- how would you even know I did it?”
“I know all about your stupid concept or honor. You would do it. And you wouldn’t use it to blackmail me,” Azula faked a yawn “Deal?”
Not like you are giving me a fucking chance here, Zuko thought. Yet, he muttered:
“Deal.”
He stared at the sea of green and red uniforms that made the crowd. Air Nomads would never participate in such a ritual. And the Water Tribes never seemed to care much about their business. The arena was already marked by Earth and Fire bending, each disgusting Alpha trying to out-Alpha the other. For a moment he spotted General Zhao and Zuko forced himself to take a deep breath. He thought he saw a flash of blue clothing, but it was probably a trick of the light.
Those few hours suddenly felt too long to endure. The third round was about to start.

Fluff with some kinda angst w/ xuxi please. Where the reader is sad bc she feels insecure of her weight and some flaws uwu
I wrote a little something else to go with this here
Someone else sent in a request similar to this one so I just combined them
Other Request Anon:  Hi 🙂 Can you do a xuxi x chubby reader? I'm really feeling ugly these days bc I keep getting fat. ☹️ I really love to eat tho.. but I need something comforting to read right now bc I feel insecure to other girls with a beautiful body. 🙂 It's okay tho if you don't want to. I will understand. Thanks a lot. 😚
I know this request took a while but I hope you like it sweets
P.S the ending is a little rushed because I ran out of time sorry
As you stood at the end of your driveway you watched the sculpted back of your used to be boyfriend walk away from you getting smaller the farther he walked. Tears raced quickly down your face, the more you wiped the more came in their place. Your knees gave out under you as you fell to the unwavering ground below, the grass only providing minimal comfort.
“XUXI!” you screamed at the retreating back pretty soon you couldn’t see him any more and as realization sunk in a chorus of the word ‘no’ flowed out of your mouth getting louder each time.
“NO!” you shot up out of bed, the blanket that was once wrapped around you falling to the floor as your chest rose and fell quickly. An impending panic attack was coming to the surface as you tried calming yourself. You had dreamt that your boyfriend Xuxi had left you after telling you that your weight was too much for him to handle.
As the memory of the harsh words he spoke rang in your head you notice the current damp state of not your face. Once you had calmed yourself you took a look at your phone to see that you had two unread messages and a missed call from your boyfriend.
Xuxi:
Good morning baby, I had to go to the company for practice and we have an interview later so I might be home a little late.
Also I bought you your favorite breakfast and left it in the microwave so when you wake up just heat it up and give me a ft ok I want to hear your voice and see your beautiful face.
Stepping out of your shared bedroom you make your way to the kitchen. The ding from the microwave rings throughout the room taking the food out of the device you make your way to the living room and turn on the tv.
You do as asked and call Xuxi to which he picks up on the second ring. “Hey baby.” His deep voice sounds through the phone automatically bringing a smile to your face, “Hey” you responded. When he asks why you didn’t facetime your mind immediately went to the dream and then you thought about how you look right now. You give him some half assed lie about your battery in hopes that he wouldn’t ask anymore about it. At the same time you look at the food set in front of you and instantly lose your appetite.
You stay on the phone with Xuxi until he has to go. Getting up off of the couch your body feels especially heavy and the dream pops up again. It’s as if your mind is trying to warn you that this is your future if you don’t do something, and looking at the food again you start to feel sick to your stomach.
You throw the food away and go to take a shower hoping that it’ll somehow wash away your insecurities. Walking into the bathroom you turn on the water and begin to strip and as your luck has it you accidentally catch yourself in the mirror and it’s as if you get caught in a trance. YOu have no choice but to look at yourself, your naked body. The lighting in the room is bright and does not care about accentuating all aspects of your flawed body. The raw disgust you feel increases as your eyes dart all over yourself spotting any and everything wrong.
Your hand unconsciously lifts to the rolls at your sides accompanied by the plethora of stretch marks on your arms and your thighs and your stomach and your ass. It’s as if they never end. Every slight form of movement causes at least one part of your body to jiggle unattractively. You look at your face and the slight double chin under it.
The steam from the shower layers the bathroom, the condensation covering the mirror keeping you from seeing yourself clearly. Snapping out of it you realize that you’ve had the water running for a very long time, while in the shower you think of Xuxi and how he wouldn’t want you to think of yourself this way. You think about the feeling of his hands caressing your body with so much love and care.
Stepping out of the shower you feel a little better about yourself. You make your way into the room so that you can pick out some clothes to wear. “Maybe if I dress up i’ll feel even better about myself.” Preparing the clothes in your mind you have an image for a bomb ass outfit.
You put on the clothes and go look in the mirror to see something completely different then what you had imagined. The person you saw was not who you imagined. Your eyes zoned in on your torso and how it pushed against the shirt and the word frumpy popped up in your head. You felt as if you were the before picture on a makeover show. It was all wrong how could-
‘You know how. Why would anything look good on you.’ a voice in the back of your head told you. Instant depression washed over you. Suddenly the dream came to again and it almost brought tears to your eyes. The ringing of your phone cleared your thoughts but only temporarily.
It was Xuxi, he was facetiming you. You couldn’t let him see you like this, so you didn’t answer it.  You messaged him telling him you were busy and couldn’t answer. But the reminder that Xuxi is there calmed you once again and you just took the clothes off making the decision to not think about it anymore and you threw on some sweats and one of Xuxi’s oversized shirts.
Laying in bed you go through your phone looking for something to occupy you and your mind, but nothing can keep your attention and the self demeaning thoughts start to creep back in. And not to mention your head is starting to hurt. “Maybe after a nap things will be better.” You say to yourself as you close your eyes and go to sleep.
You wake up in a cold sweat with a throat as dry as the sahara. Getting up out of bed the room starts to spin forcing you to have to steady yourself. Making your way to the kitchen you hear the door open revealing your tall boyfriend. “Hey baby how was your day?” Xuxi asks as he walks up to you after he drops his backpack on the floor, giving you a kiss on your cheek.
“Hey bubs.” you say avoiding the rest of the question as you put the glass up to your lips and take a drink of water. When Xuxi wraps his hands around your waist lifting you and spinning you lightly. The headache that never left intensifies to the point where you feel as if you are going to faint. “XUXI put me down!” once your feet touch the floor your legs give out you hear a loud “Woah!” and you feel his arms around you once again steadying you.
He cradles your face in his large hands, forcing you to look at him, “Baby are you ok? You’ve been acting a little off all day. I wasn’t going to say anything because it didn’t seem too serious but now I’m worried.”
“I’m fin-” your body folds in on itself once again and Xuxi drags you to your room sitting you on the bed where he looks at you with a face that says ‘Lie again’. You avoid his eyes, not wanting him to know that you have been feeling bad about yourself all day. He walks back to the kitchen to get you more water when he walks by the garbage can and sees the food he left you earlier this morning in the trash.
“Why was this in the trash? Have you starved yourself all day??!!” he asks once he makes it back to the room, holding the back of old food up next to his face. Your silence is enough answer for him and he walks out of the room to quickly order food. Sitting on the bed in front of you he looks at you with possibly the most serious expression you’ve ever seen on him.
“Why?” is all he says as he waits for you to explain why you would possibly want to harm yourself like this. After explaining through unshed tears to him what you went through today he takes you into his arms, his sturdy chest unyielding as cries wrack your body. “Babygirl I don’t want you to ever do this to yourself again ok? Promise me.” He holds out his pinky finger.
“I want to know that I will never in my life do that to you. I love you for everything you are. I love how soft and cuddly you are, I love how you fill out your clothes, I love how you look. But not only that I love you, for exactly who you are no matter what you look like.” he tells you looking into your eyes, “ I don’t want you to lose weight, that’s not what this is about. It’s about being healthy and starving yourself is not how you do it. I will support you wholeheartedly if you say you want to get healthy but being healthy is NOT about being a certain weight. Do you understand me?”
As if it was pre-planned the food he ordered had just made it and as Xuxi went to go get it so you could finally eat something it left you with your thoughts. Dream be damned, insecurities be damned, you do want to get healthy not lose weight. You shouldn’t be forced to feel a certain way about yourself just because of some numbers on a scale or just because you don’t look like mainstream females.
And as Xuxi sat in front of you feeding you the food he bought the only thing on your mind was, “Damn I love this man.”

Wherefore Art Thou My Fair Juliet?
“Future Mrs. Rogers, huh?”
Steve looks up from the manifest in his hand with a shy smile. “Well, um,-”
“Save it, punk,” Bucky stopped him. Steve raised a brow at him, trying to read him. Bucky smirked devilishly. “She’s cute.”
“Back off she’s mine,” Steve said playfully, leaning back in his office chair and hooking his leg over the other.
“Sure about that?” Bucky asked with a chuckle, pulling a chair back to take a seat. “I don’t think she really likes you.”
“What would make you say that?”
“Well for starters she called you a dirty, ugly mobster,” Bucky recalled.
“Ain’t she the cutest?” Steve chuckled like a child.
“Steve, that’s not how it works.”
“Okay, so she’s a bit brash,” Steve said sitting up. “Nothing wrong with that. I like that. Think it’s really hot.” Bucky nodded not really knowing how to reply to that. “I really think she likes me, Buck, we really connected at the museum.”
“The museum?”
“Yeah, that’s where I met her first.” Steve informed, “on Saturday.”
“She likes art then?” Bucky asked.
Steve shakes his head with a smile, his thoughts returning to that day. “Not at all. She’s a dunce when it comes to art. But don’t get me wrong she’s really smart. She’s one of those science nerds.”
“How lovely,” Bucky said, resting the side of his face in his hand while leaning on the desk. “What’s her name again? Rosy?”
“No that’s not her real name,” Steve replied. “That’s just what I call her.”
Bucky furrows his brows. “Then what’s her real name?”
A sudden realization comes to him. He sits straight with a blank expression. “I don’t know…”
Bucky’s head dips with a tired sigh. Steve could have been his best friend. He could’ve been the man with over half of New York under his control. He was the most brilliant mind in the business world - legal and illegal. But when it came to the dating scene, he was a total dud. A simpleton. A hopeless romantic and hopeless in all things regarding romance.
“So let me get this straight,” Bucky said with his hands. “You spent an entire morning with this chick. Supposedly had a “connection” with her but you didn’t have the decency to introduce yourself?”
“It was a complicated morning,” Steve retorted. “I didn’t even have my morning coffee.”
“That’s no excuse!” Bucky replied. “No wonder she hates you.”
“She doesn’t hate me.”
“Yeah, uh-huh, whatever you say ugly, dirty mobster.”
Steve huffs with his lips in a frown. “She was just a little freaked out, is all! I mean it’s not every day you witness a violent shakedown. You guys overdid it.” Steve crossed his arms.
Bucky looks at the man incredulously. “You told us to show the kid what a Brooklyn beating looks like.”
“Yeah, but you didn’t have to go overboard,” he retorted. “You scared the poor girl. There’s just so much a pretty heart like that can take. You dirty ugly mobster. How could you?”
“Oh please forgive me,” Bucky sassed, sinking in his seat.
The two sit in silence for a few minutes. Steve sat with a frown on his face. How could he have been so stupid? Why didn’t he ask for your name? No wonder you thought he was a creep. You probably thought he was just trying to get into your pants.
Steve, you stupid man, can’t you do anything right?!?!
“So what’re you gonna do now?” Bucky breaks the silence.
Steve looks up at him with a sad pout. A light in his brain flips on and his frown turns upside down. “You’re gonna find out who she is.”
“What?” Bucky said, hurling himself forward. “What do you mean?”
“Exactly what I said.” Steve smiled. “You’re gonna find out who she is and tell me. It’s your new job.”
“That’s not in my contract.” Bucky retorted.
“Yeah, well now it is,” Steve replied, gathering his things. “Take Sam and the kid with ya.”
“Are you nuts?” Bucky roared. “There’s no way we can do that! There’s like a billion girls in the city!” He exclaimed, waving his arms around. “It’ll take years!”
But there’s only one Rosy. Steve thought to himself with a far-off look.
Steve smirks as he gets up. He walks past his friend and opens the door, his keys dangling in his hand. “Then I guess you better get started.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You walked down the sidewalk, your hair fluttering in the air and clothes clinging to your body with your arms tightly wrapped around the textbook in your hand bracing yourself from the cold winter air.
Your thoughts were stuck in the clouds making you feel out of breath and slightly dizzy. They were thoughts of a certain mobster hottie. They weren’t romantic thoughts per se. More like a mixture of confusion and fear.
Who would’ve thought the harmless freak from the museum would end up being the most dangerous man in the city. But then again, not everything was as it seemed. Your thoughts were wrapped in him. How sweet and sassy he was at the museum and how different he was at the cafe.
His eyes were cold and his aura was intimidating, but quickly switched to flirty and sweet when he saw you. That was what scared you the most.
So absorbed in your thoughts, you didn’t notice the urban decay surrounding you. The decrepit pavement that looked as if it was slammed with a sledgehammer. The once perfect and smooth concrete was now broken into a network of cracks, many of them colonized by weeds.
So wrapped up in the way his eyes twinkled and smile shined, you forgot where you were going or who was around you. People were walking by, heads topped with wool hats and bodies wrapped in uncomfortable layers of flannel and duffel. There was a boy that was walking home with you, who just so happened to notice you weren’t listening to him and he found it very annoying.
“Y/N?” Quentin called. “Y/N? Earth to moron! Y/N!” he shakes his hand in front of your face.
“Huh?”
“You weren’t listening to me,” he frowned.
“I was,” you lied.
“Then what did I say?”
You smiled sheepishly and he rolled his eyes.
“My roommate’s going out of town this weekend and I was wondering if you wanted to come over? We can order a pizza and study for ochem? Maybe play some Gears?”
“Yeah, that sounds like fun,” you agreed with a smile.
Quentin smiles in excitement, his grip on his bag tightening. It’s been a while since the two of you had a study date.
“What’s with you?” he changes the topic. “You’ve been out of it lately.”
“I’m fine,” you murmured.
“No you’re not,” he deadpanned.
“I’m just tired,” you replied. “That’s all.”
“Something tells me it’s not,” he said. “Call it my “best friend since sixth grade” sixth sense.”
You chuckled at him. You’ve known Quentin for a really long time. He was the first person to accept you.
You didn’t have the best school experience. While other girls found sweet love notes in their lockers you found scraps of paper telling you to kill yourself, that you were the ugliest girl in school. No one wanted to be your partner in gym class. No one asked you out to a homecoming dance or invited you to sit with them during lunch.
You were unwanted and alone and learned to accept it. If your own parents didn’t accept you then why would anyone else?
That was until you met Quentin. He asked to sit next to you in science class on his first day and you were speechless when he did. It only got better as the days went by. He sat with you during lunch. He made you laugh in the library until the librarian kicked you out. He made you feel wanted and special.
“Well?” he called you back. “You gonna tell me?”
“It’s nothing,” you assured.
“Y/N,” he doted like a father.
You sighed, knowing he wouldn’t quit until you told him. The grip on your book tightens as you shrink into your scarf.
“I met this guy,” you confessed with a light blush.
Quentin chuckles at your cute behavior, but for some reason, it hurts a little. “That’s good.”
“No,” you shake your head. “It’s not good.”
He raises a brow. “Why not?”
“Because he’s bad,” you told him.
He furrows his brows. “What do you mean?”
“He’s bad.”
“Bad in like he’s hot?”
“No!” you replied quickly. Well,…he was hot. “I’m talking about the other kinda bad.”
Quentin chuckles. “I didn’t know you were into bad boys,” he wiggled his brows.
“It’s not like that!”
“Then what is it like?”
“I don’t know…bad,” you reiterated. You didn’t really want to give him the details. He’d only worry, possibly scold you for talking to strangers, and you really didn’t need that right now. “He’s nice just a bit…strange.”
“Want me to kick someone’s ass?” he asked.
You shake your head with a chuckle. “No, not yet. I think I can handle it.”
Quentin frowns a bit, but you didn’t really notice. He didn’t like how vague you were being or how the idea of some guy bothering you was stuck in his head now. But he didn’t show it. You were strong and knew how to take care of yourself. He knew how much you liked your space. But even then, it didn’t stop him from worrying. It didn’t stop him from wishing you’d open just a bit after all these years. He never told you that though. He always had a way of hiding his feelings when it came to you.
Your lips slanted into a downward curve and brows furrowed in concentration. Quentin wraps an arm around your shoulders, shaking you out of your daze. You turn to look at him and he has a wide smile on his face.
“Come on, let’s go get some coffee,” he said.
“I’m broke at the moment,” you reminded him.
“On me then,” he offered, “we gotta get you back down to earth.”
You chuckled following him. He always had a way of making you feel better.

“Man this is the stupidest shit I’ve ever done,” Sam groaned.
“Not as stupid as the time you licked that water pipe in ten-degree weather,” Bucky stated.
“In my defense, I was drunk off my ass.”
“You actually did that,” Peter asked from the back of the car. “Wow, even I’m not that stupid.”
Sam turned around to glare at the boy. Peter melted into the leather seat in fear.
“Why did we bring him with us?”
“Steve said so,“ Bucky answered, lighting up a cigarette.
Sam groaned loudly. "First we get stuck with this horrible job then we gotta drag the kid with us. He’ll just slow us down!"
"I’m faster than you, Grandpa,” Peter sassed making Bucky snort with the stick in his mouth.
“It’s taking every ounce of goodness in me to not beat the crap out of you right now,” Sam told him.
“That’s child abuse and I’ll report you."
Sam faces forwards, murmuring under his breath. "I will not kill the kid. I will not kill the kid."
"Hey, Pete, wanna smoke?” Bucky asked, pointing the box towards him.
“Sure,” he reached out for one.
Bucky smacks him on the back of the head. “Don’t even think about, punk, you’re underage."
"Then why’d you offer?” Peter asked annoyed, rubbing the back of his head.
“I was testing ya,” Bucky replied. “And now that I know, if I catch you smoking I’m kicking your butt. You hear that?"
"Yeah,” he mumbled.
“Excuse me?"
"Yes sir,” Peter corrected himself. The boy leaned against the car door, peeking out the window watching pedestrians walk by. “Uh, Sir?"
"What is it, kid?” Sam asked.
“If we’re supposed to find some girl shouldn’t we be outside? Why are we sitting in the car?"
It’s quiet for a minute. Peter raises a brow at the two.
"It’s cold outside,” Bucky confessed.
Peter’s lips parted slightly in shock. Some ruff-n-tuff mobster you are.
“I mean do you really want to go searching for the girl?” Sam asked him. “We’ll just sit around for a while and tell the big guy we can’t find her."
"But that’s not honest!” Peter sits up, squeezing into the small space between them.
Bucky laughs at him. “This is the mob, kid, honesty doesn’t exist around here."
Peter frowns and crosses his arms while sitting back. "It’s still wrong. The boss really likes this girl. Shouldn’t we help?"
"We’ll be helping him by not finding the girl,” Sam informed. “Trust us when we say that the boss’ had his fair share of heartbreak. The last thing he needs is another girl."
"What do you mean?"
"It’s a long story,” Bucky tried to change the topic. “I’ll tell you some other time. But don’t go blabbin’ to the boss that we told you that. Ya hear?"
Peter nodded in curiosity. The mob boss was suffering from heartbreak?
"Holy shit, Buck, it’s her!” Sam exclaimed, pointing out the windshield.
Bucky almost drops his cigarette in surprise. “Oh my god, what do we do?"
"Get out of the car, we can’t lose her!” Sam shouted, opening the door to his side.
“I thought you said we weren’t going to find her."
"She’s right there, Pete, we can’t just let her go,” Bucky said, getting out of the car. “Now get out of the damn car!"
Peter gets out of the car with a groan. These two were beyond confused and now they were getting him confused.
"Now what do we do?” Peter said, feeling stupid by just being next to the two.
“Uhm,” Bucky thought. He pushes Peter in your direction. “Go talk to her.”
“What!? Why me?!” Peter questioned.
“Because…” Sam started. “This is…this is your initiation into the gang."
"Yeah, that’s what this is,” Bucky pointed up. “Now hurry up before she gets away."
"You’re just pulling that out of your ass!” Peter retorted. “I’m not gonna go talk to some girl I’ve never met before. That’s weird."
"Listen, punk, you either do it or you’re dead,” Sam threatened. “I don’t think you’ve seen what a real Brooklyn beating looks like."
Peter gulps. He turns to see you and a boy walking away, slowly fading from his view.
"What’s it gonna be then?"
"Okay, okay, I’ll do it,” Peter assured. He turned on his heel, his steps getting wider to catch up. “Lazy ass mobsters,” he grunted.
“I heard that asshole!"

I wrote this from the hours of 10pm to 3:30am
warnings: hurt/comfort(?), Toko's scars, non despair au, this was super self indulgent and if it's bad blame it on my insomnia brain, drug use(its just marijuana)
"I just have to do this,Toukocchi" the clairvoyant had brought Toko back to her room.
She wasn't known as a klutz or anything. in fact she almost never fell. But somehow as she was up at lunch that day her skirt got stuck and she hit her head on the floor. It wasn't enough to give her any severe head trauma but she did have a slightly open wound at the back of her head.
Yasuhiro had volunteered to help Toko.
He had confessed that he liked the author a while ago, but she dismissed it and (kinda of brutally) shot him down.
■■■
"W-what do y-you m-m-mean you like me?" Toko was in a shocked and seemed disgusted
"Y-y-you're a liar. You're l-l-LYING!!"
"Why would I lie about this?"
"To hurt me! You wanna g-get my h-hopes up and then hurt me w-when I get vulnerable"
"Toukocchi, I-"
"YOU'RE JUST LIKE THE REST OF THEM"
■■■
While Hagakure was hurt that Toko thought that he would do something like that, he knows that it's not his fault that she thinks that way. He also knows that there's no way to change her mind so there's no reason to try.
But he could at least try to earn back her trust and be friends again. Well, acquaintances as Toko called them.
"You don't h-have to do anything" the purple haired girl stuttered
"Of course I do. Your head's bleeding and I don't think you can see it by yourself" Yasuhiro was calm as he spoke, deep voice sending tremers down Toko's spine. Not in a h o r n y sense or anything like that. He just has a deep ass voice. Like holy shit. like wow. you can cause an earthquake with that bass.
They sat on her bed back to chest
"I could have at least tried" Yasuhiro sat down the peroxide he picked up from the infirmary.
He also had cotton swabs and cotton pads. As well as bandages.
The tall one carefully traced the wound with a cotton swab to get the blood out of the way.
He was really close to Toko. Her face was no where near his chest but she could still tell
"You smell"
Hiro huffed some air out of his nose at that. She wasn't wrong. He did smell of lemony mint. He always had a small amount of weed on him in case if stressful situations.
"Oh yeah? Is it a good smell or a bad smell, Toukocchi?" He could feel her shoulders relax and he said that. He dipped a new swab in the peroxide. He didn't touch her wound yet though. He wanted to hear her answer.
"I-it doesn't matter! It's smelly"
"Hmm. Hey, aren't you the one who doesn't shower?"
"Shut up"
"Okay well. This may sting a bit" He cleaned her wound. Toko gasped at the contact from the cold liquid.
Silence.
"It's not that I don't bathe" Toko had suddenly spoken up
"Hmm?"
"I bathe. it's just" Hiro stayed quiet. He didn't wanna say something in case she wanted to stop her confession.
"I have to build up enough confidence to get in the bath sometimes it gets here to late". Hiro supposes that makes sense the water does cut off at a certain for billing reasons but
"Confidence?" It was a simple question. She didn't have to answer. It was less a question for her and more to himself. He kinda meant to only say it in his head.
"Well...My legs th-they"
"Hey, you don't have to say anything you don't want to. You know that right?"
"I need to say this otherwise I'll be by myself forever. My legs are c-covered with scars" Hiro was shocked by this.
But it was enough to bring him back to what he was doing before. He had totally forgotten to put a bandage on
He slowly pealed the protective layer off and spread it carefully at the back of her head.
"Are you n-not going to s-s-say anyth-thing?"
"I didn't realize you were finshed, my bad"
"Well?"
"Well, I think that you have real reason to not want to bathe. But, I'm kind of confused. Do you not want to reopen the scars or?"
"I don't like looking at them"
"I'm sorry to hear that, Toukocchi" Hiro didn't want to overstep his boundaries. But he did want to help
"Should I help you?"
"W-w-w-what!"
"So you don't have to look at them. I could wash you. Not in a weird way or anything! I just"
Hiro seemed to whisper that last part. He felt awkward. He wasn't tryna be pervy he really just wanted to help.
Hagakure stepped aside to the window in Toko's room and lit the pre-rolled blunt. He inhaled the lemony smoke and exhaled it through his mouth and nose.
Toko looked at the stressed man at her window. His long dreads in a ponytail
Bags under his eyes.
Ance scattered on his tanned skin
Blowing smoke
The sun shining on his deep brown eyes.
Elbow sitting in the window ledge as he brought the marijuana cigarette to he lips.
He looked beautiful.
But he also seemed sad.
Hagakure was embarrassed with what he had proposed to his crush. He just wanted her to feel safe... and clean.
"H-hey, Palm Tree?" This made Yasuhiro smile and he brought his face down and puffed outward.
"So I have a nickname now?"
"Do you promise to not do anything weird?"
"What do you mean?"
"If I let you help me. I-I wasn't gonna bathe today but If y-your o-offer is.. ya know"
"Toukocchi," Hiro turned to look at Toko who was still sat fidgeting on her bed, "I promise from the bottom of my heart, I would never and will never do anything to make you feel unsafe or uncomfortable"
"okay but... I don't. I. would it be possible for you to do this without you seeing my body?"
"Honestly I think that impossible. But it could be a bubble bath so I can't see under the water"
"t-th-that-that works. Also if you tell anyone about this you'll regret it. you already convinced me to tell you about my insecurities" she spoke in an angry tone but it was obvious she wasn't mad
"Actually if I'm not mistaken I believe it was you that pressured yourself into telling me"
"SHUT UP"
□□□
"Okay, Toukocchi, hop out" Hiro had looked away as he held an out spread towel in his hands for Fukawa to walk into.
Although he looked away she had subconsciously covered her chest until she got wrapped in the towel.
Hiro looked at her. Her long purple hair upbraided, cascading over her shoulders. He could see the little marks on he nose from where her glasses usually sit.
She's so gorgeous. I hope she realizes that one day.
"Can you get out so I can change?"
Oh shit. Right.
"Yeah, yeah. Sorry" Hiro walked out closing the door behind him. As soon as he closed it he heard a locking noise.
He stood out in her room and looked around as she changed in her off room bathroom.
He saw her bookshelf. There were copies of her own books. Hiro was actually a big fan of her work. His mom had gotten him into romance novels. it's one of the things they truly bond over.
There were also some manga comics. Surprising considering Toko made a huge deal of manga not being real literature.
I guess we all have our guilty pleasure
The lock on the bathroom door had turned and the door opened.
Hiro's head and turned to see Toko in her underwear. He was awestruck but quickly turned his head back.
"I forgot m-m-my clothes out here" She quickly grabbed her clothes
"I'm sorry you had to see my ugly body" Hiro couldn't let that slide
"What are you talking about" He turned to look at Toko and his voice sounding of mild annoyance.
Toko was shocked
"W-what?"
"Ugly? Toukocchi, you one of the most beautiful people I've ever seen"
"I doubt that" She dismissed. awkwardly smiling. Hiro walked over to Toko. He looked at where her eyes are.
"Toko. I wouldn't lie to you. I would kiss your whole body if it would make you realize how amazingly powerful you look"
"y-you shouldn't k-keep empty promises, Idiot"
That's when he kissed her. Not on the mouth or anything. It was on the forehead. He held her in his arms.
"I love your skin. It's soft but rough at the same time. it compliments your aura so much."
He ran his fingers through her hair and kissed what was in his palm
" I love your hair. It's a beautiful color and it's so shiny"
"probably from how greasy I am"
"probably from how healthy it is"
He brought his head down to kiss her shoulders. He lifted her arms and kissed her hands and wrist.
"I love your hands. You've written such nice material with them and it shows. Sure they're callosed and rough but it just goes to show how much you care about what you produce"
He kneeled down so his face was to her tummy
"Is this okay with you?"
"mhm" Toko had covered her face from embarrassment. She looked like a rose.
" I need a verbal yes or else this feels weird, Toukocchi"
"I-I- I'm okay with this"
He kissed her tummy and she suddenly felt tense
"My- my legs"
He kissed her thighs. He kissed all over where he saw a scar.
"Your legs are beautiful. If you didn't have them right now you wouldn't have have anything to hate. I wouldn't have anything to make you feel better about."
He stood up and kissed her, on the lips this time. His hand held the side of her face. Her cheek leaned into his touch.
"I love you, Toukocchi" Her rose face was now a bright ruby. The brightest to ever be seen. She hid behind her hair
"You love me for my body? Or do you love me because you feel bad for me?"
Once again he chuckled at this.
"Toukocchi, I love you for so much more than that" He brushed her hair our of her face.
"I love how determined you are. Even if you don't feel like it or realize it. You really do more than what you're capable of if the task is important to you. You're sweet, and quirky and you're always there for the rest of us in your own weird way. I love the way you portray the world in your novels. I love the way you smile when you feel truly at peace. Ya know when you think no one is looking? it's that genuine and pure happiness. Even if it's small it really shows how much you care for all of us and enjoy being around us. Like we're all your family"
"Y-you said a lot of words just then"
"I know you don't like me back. And I'm okay with that. But please know that I will love you for the person that you are no matter what. And anytime you feel like you're ugly remember this moment and remember how beautiful you are"
"Yasuhiro, I-"
"Do you promise?"
"I promise"

Wanda, Bucky and your friend Derek all trailed behind you, Bucky mirroring your smile as he took joy in watching you look at all of the beautiful gowns. “We don’t have to buy anything today.” You said, stopping to gently smooth your hand over the material of a dress. “But you do.” Wanda cut in, a playful tone in her voice, receiving an elbow to the side from Bucky. “That’s for you to decide doll, we’re just here for support.” Bucky smiled, taking your hand in his and taking a moment to admire your engagement ring from Bucky.
You and Bucky weren’t exactly the most traditional pair, sure he had things he wanted to do that were reminiscent of the forties, but he was a modernised man, laid back and all he wanted to do was make you happy, so if him seeing the dress long before the day made you happy, he’d do it.
“Ooh Wanda, what about this one? I like this one.” You excitedly tugged along your best girl friend as Derek and Bucky walked behind you both, the assistant up ahead of you both and showing you dresses that met the preferences you’d given her. “You’re not getting involved?” Derek asked, glancing up at Bucky, who was a good head taller than him. “Nope, I know she’ll look good in anything. She could come to our wedding in a potato sack and she’d still be beautiful.” Bucky sighed, watching you with a fond smile, a snort coming from Derek. “She invited you, you could at least give some constructive criticism.” He rolled his eyes. That didn’t sit well with Bucky, but he let it slide.
“You two go and sit down, we’re going to try these on.” Wanda called over her shoulder, jutting her finger out at a sofa to the side for them to wait on. Bucky had half the mind to follow you and abandon Derek but decided against it. You probably didn’t want him breathing down your neck while you tried dresses on, Wanda was much better with stuff like that anyway and he didn’t want to cause you anxiety or stress by lurking in your dressing room.
“Okay, we’ve tried the ones you said you really liked, but what about the one you said you really, really liked?” Wanda pointed at the dress, which coincidentally had been the first one you’d picked out upon arriving at the shop. It was the perfect colour, the cut, shape and fit of it was stunning, but you’d held off trying it on in fear of it not looking right and your hopes for the dress being too high.
You got into the dress, a gasp on your lips when you turned around to look at yourself in the mirror. Wanda looked at you, totally floored by it while the assistant adjusted some of the fastenings at the back. “Oh my god.” Wanda whispered. “You look incredible.” She breathed out, hands reaching forwards to fiddle with a layer of fabric that wasn’t sitting flat. “You’re so beautiful, Bucky’s gonna die when he sees you!” She exclaimed, throwing her hands up dramatically as she fussed over you, making you giggle. “Can we go and show him? I want him to see.” You turned slightly to eye the assistant and Wanda who stood on either side of you, both giving you nods of agreement, though Wanda was very enthusiastic.
You walked out into the main space with the help of Wanda and your assistant. It wasn’t the easiest, considering the dress wasn’t quite the right size or length for you, but you got there, albeit, not as gracefully as you had liked. Bucky’s jaw hit the floor when he saw you, his eyes glistening slightly as he took you in.
“What do you think?” You asked, Bucky still in a trance, staring at the dress and your beautiful face, taking it all in. He stuttered a bit, trying to compose himself  before he could get any real words out.
“I hate it.” Derek blurted out. “You look terrible.” He sat back in his seat, your smile dropping as you instantly felt the blow straight to your heart. Did it not look good? Did you not look good? Perhaps the dress was great but looked bad on you. That’s why Bucky hadn’t said anything, right?
“Are you out of your mind?” Wanda fumed, immediately going into protective mode. “I just- I meant it sarcastically?” Derek sounded unsure, shrugging at Wanda, who looked incredulous. Bucky snapped out of his trance when he saw you desperately trying not to cry, though you were hiding it well, Bucky knew you like the back of his hand and he’d be damned if he let Derek make you cry. “You could have said you didn’t like it, not you look terrible.” Wanda imitated him in a sarcastic tone, the assistant with your group looking rather out of her depth as she took a few steps away from the situation.
“Y’know what Derek? It’s one thing to give an opinion and constructive criticism, but that ain’t it.” Bucky finally spoke up. “Don’t fuckin’ talk to my fiancé like that, she looks goddamn gorgeous and she can wear what she wants to her wedding.” Bucky stood up, towering over Derek, who now looked half scared to death. “I didn’t mean it like that, thought, I just- I thought that-.” He cut himself off, seeing that he was fighting a losing battle and it was best to just shut his mouth before he dug himself any deeper.
Neither Wanda, Derek nor Bucky had even noticed that you’d vacated the room until they finished shouting at Derek for his insensitive way of speaking to you. “I’m going to find her.” Bucky grumbled, still angry at your friend. “I can go.” Wanda offered, but Bucky shook his head and she knew better than to challenge him on something like that.
Bucky walked around into the fitting room area to hear you behind a door, sobbing, the poor assistant trying her best to sooth you. He took in a deep breath and knocked on the door, waiting a moment for someone to reply. The door opened, only by a crack and the assistant stuck her head out. “It’s your fiancé.” She informed you and you nodded, letting her know that it was okay to let him in. “I’ll give you two a minute, I’ll be in the hallway.” She gave you a warm smile before leaving you both alone in the dressing room.
“I’m so sorry, sweetheart.” Bucky sighed, taking a step towards you and reaching up to gently thumb away some of your tears. “Derek doesn’t seem to have a damn filter.” He grumbled, pulling you into his chest. “Don’t fuckin’ listen to anything he said, I know he’s your friend but he’s a damn idiot.” Bucky spoke firmly, brushing his fingers through the front pieces of your hair to move them behind your ears. “It didn’t look good.” You sniffled, looking up at the dress that you’d just taken off, which was now hanging up on the wall. “Darlin’, you looked incredible, you looked so happy as well.” He encouraged you, rubbing your arms gently. “No, he said I looked terrible in it.” You choked out, more tears spilling out and Bucky sighed, trying his best to contain the anger inside at stupid Derek.
He rubbed his forehead a bit, thoughts going through his mind about how much encouragement it was going to take to help you ignore Derek’s dumb remark and enjoy the dress you so clearly liked. “Sweetheart, listen to me.” Bucky held your face in his hands. “You’re gonna put that dress back on, and we’re going to talk about it alright?” Bucky encouraged. “No, no, I can’t.” You shook your head, looking up at the dress, you were torn on the inside, feeling as if you shouldn’t want it so badly if it didn’t look good. But here Bucky was, staring into your eyes with his calming sea blue irises, soothing you just by looking at you and you caved. With a silent nod you agreed and Bucky kissed your forehead gently before leaving the room and letting the assistant back in, who was glad to see you were calm and collected again.
“See, you’re goddamn beautiful, doll.” Bucky grinned, standing behind you as you both looked in the mirror. “You love this dress, darlin’, I can see it in your eyes when you wear it. I know it’s your choice, but it’d kill me if you bought one you didn’t love as much just because of Derek. This is for you.” Bucky encouraged, keeping his voice soft as he watched your expression change from one of sadness and longing to a softer expression, a sweet smile making it’s way onto your wobbly lips.
“But Derek-.”
“Derek sucks.” Bucky smirked, looking down at you and adjusting some of your hair. “And he’s not you, I ain’t marrying him.” He grinned, causing you to giggle and look away from him, a deep blush on your cheeks. “So what’ll it be doll? We can keep thinkin’ about it, we can come back, we could leave it.” He suggested a string of possibilities, but you knew what you wanted.
“I think I found my dress.” You smiled up at him, receiving a toothy grin from him, the pride of success from his encouragement filled his chest, making his heart swell. He looked down at you, imagining how wonderful you’d look on the day in your dress.
Maybe his protective nature sometimes drove him to do compulsive things, like kicking Derek off the invite list, but he meant well and he’d move the whole goddamn world for you if he could, which he was sure he could find a way if you asked him to.

Under Your Spell (Part 21) - Let Me Twist It A Little Deeper
Tumblr media
Summary: A Jared Padalecki/OFC /Oscar Isaac fiction.
Stef is not having the best weekend at the con.
Chapter warnings: Flirting, swearing, infidelity. masturbation, angst.
Chapter WC: 3,554
Everything was packed and ready to go. Stef lay in bed, unable to switch off the noise of the day.
‘Come on, Stef, go asleep,’ she told herself. Pushing off the covers and pulling them back on again. Tossing and turning didn’t cover how much she had moved around.
Finally, she gave up. Grabbing her phone from her bedside table. 4am.
Claire was staying with Richard. Jared was with his family and who knows where Oscar was.
She scrolled through insta for a while, seeing all the photos fans had shared from the previous day. A headache was forming behind her eyes, it was gonna be one of the bad ones, she knew.
‘Fucking sleep!’ Stef cursed. Only one thing left to try. Reaching down under the sheets, Stef rolled her fingers around her clit, the first thought that came to her mind was Jared on stage, smiling and joking. The next thought was him shirtless, the last time he was in her bedroom, jeans hanging low on his hips, arm muscles bulging while he fished around on the floor for his clothes.
Breathing out a soft groan, Stef continued, fingers finding her opening hot and wet. She slid inside, one finger. Jared breathing on her neck, sucking soft kisses against her jaw, his voice in her ear, ‘c’mon Stef, give it to me.’
It was a phrase he liked to use when he was in a playful mood, she would relinquish control of her pleasure to him. When he took control of her, his hands, his mouth, his voice would be everywhere, all over her. His mouth humming against her in the most delicious way. And she would ride waves of pleasure.
Stef felt her walls contracting around her finger, her body trembling and finally stilled as she drifted into a disturbed and dream filled sleep.
Oscar had taken her by the hand, dragging her through the crowds, ‘look at them!’ he kept yelling over his shoulder. ‘Let go of me, I can’t go with you.’ Stef tried to twist her arm from his grip. They stopped at the stage where the Q&A had been. Jared sat with his wife in his lap, giggling with her between kisses. Instant fiery hot jealousy raged through her. ‘Look at them!’ Oscar said again. His dark eyes on the couple that were wrapped up in each other. Stef drew her gaze away, unable to look at them any longer. Oscar didn’t flinch when Stef waved her hand in front of his face, he was in a daze, his mouth open in a soft smile. ‘Help me get away.’ Stef shouted. Jared started, seeing Stef below him. ‘No wait, come back.’ He begged.
Stef was running, the carpet beneath her bare feet was turning into steps too high for her to climb, she couldn’t run hard enough to get away. An arm caught her as she tumbled.
Stef couldn’t hold back her tears, burying her face in the chest of the man holding her up.
Stef woke suddenly, throwing the blankets away. Running her hands down her face, she glanced at herself in the mirror across the room. She was perspiring, hair was clinging to her neck. ‘What the actual fuck?’
Stef didn’t dream much, but that one made her feel sick to her stomach.
Wiping the bathroom mirror clean after a hotter than hell shower, Stef looked at her face, wanting the woman looking back at her to settle her nerves, tell her she wasn’t being an idiot, it went with the territory.
Why are you really fucking surprised, was all she said.
Stef sat on the side of the bath tub and cried.
Claire had done her best to make up for not being around. When she finally got around to coming back to the hotel room they were sharing, Stef was dressed and fresh faced.
‘Did you sleep?’ Claire rummaged through her bag looking for clean clothes.
‘Not much. I bet it’s pointless to ask if you got sleep last night.’ Stef winked seeing Claire trying to hide a coy smile.
‘I have to shower but then we are definitely having breakfast. There is a thing on later that I wanna check out but I’ll be back before lunch and then we can head back to the airport, k?’
Claire was being overly nice, her voice raising a little higher with every sentence.
‘Richard wouldn’t happen to be doing the thing you’re interested in, is he?’ Stef finished applying a second layer of mascara.
‘Maybe,’ Claire elongated the word, disappearing into the bathroom.
Stef’s phone beeped. Picking it up she saw a message from Jared.
Jared: Good morning sweet thang. x
Stef put the phone back down and checked herself in the mirror. Heaving a sigh, she gathered herself, put on a smile and bent to put on her Nike’s. There would be more walking today, it called for comfortable footwear. Her jeans were loose around her waist, she hadn’t realised she had lost some weight. Not too much to be noticeable she thought.
Claire was singing in the shower. Stef chuckled, hearing it was one of her older songs, Claire loved the band Stef was taking a break from.
Shit, she thought, remembering one of the members had called her a couple of days previous to ask when she was available to meet up.
Every year or so they would meet, see what was going on with each other and decide if they would do new music or not.
Hitting the call button, her old friend answered straight away.
‘Hey, Stef! How are you?’
‘Sorry I kinda forgot to call you back, Nik, I’m in Toronto right now.’
‘Yeah, I was talking to Oscar yesterday he told me he ran into you over there. Having fun?’
‘The most fun,’ she lied.
‘We are meeting Friday night at that bar you hate.’ Nik blew smoke down the phone. Stef knew the sounds of him inhaling and exhaling like his life depended on that one cigarette.
‘I’ll be there.’
‘Great!’ He did sound excited. Stef smiled, excited to catch up with them.
‘Gotta go, I’ll get the details from you during the week.’
‘For sure. Later, Stef.’
‘Was that Jared?’ Claire peeked out from behind the bathroom door, steam billowing behind her. Strands of dark red hair plastered against her face.
‘Nah. Nik. Band meeting.’
‘Oh,’ Claire seemed a little disappointed. ‘Will you see Jared before we leave?’ Her voice kept on the side of casual/hopeful instead of the misery Stef felt creeping into her bones.
‘I’d like to think so, but, with his family showing up I don’t know if he can get away.’
Stef didn’t have to hear Claire tutting from the bathroom to know how she felt about it.
Stef looked at her phone as it pinged again.
Jared had sent a very close up selfie. Laughing, she replied.
Stef: Good morning, Jared. How are you today?
Jared: Tired. Glad this con is almost over. Photo ops at 12, you gonna be around?
Stef: Yep, can swing by before we leave.
Jared replied with a few celebratory emojis.
‘Claire, come on, I’m hungry.’
‘Go down without me, I’ll be right behind you.’ Claire was brushing her teeth furiously.
Ok, Stef shrugged.
Filling her plate with as much food as possible, Stef was trying to figure out how to use the coffee machine when someone brushed past her, nudging her elbow, sending a piece of toast sliding off into the mug she had managed to fill with a watery mix of milk and coffee.
‘Sorry,’ a soft voice came. Stef turned to say it was cool when she met the woman’s eyes.
‘It-it’s fine,’ Stef stammered, her eyes glued to the beautiful brown eyes staring up at her. It was Jared’s wife.
Fuck, Stef thought.
‘You’re uhm, you’re…’ Gen tried to find a way to say her name without owning that this was the woman her husband was fucking.
‘Yeah,’ was all Stef managed to say.
‘Well, you’ve made him a happier man. When he comes home to us.’ Gen said graciously, putting a hand on the shoulder of a boy standing next to her, gaping up at Stef.
He had Jered’s eyes and my god, he had Jared’s hair. Stef swallowed hard, what could she say to that?
’Nice to meet you, anyway.’
Gen gave Stef a smile and taking her son by the hand, led him away. Stef closed her eyes, her mouth dry like a fucking desert. Suddenly, the coffee didn’t seem so important. But, there was a queue building up behind her.
‘Go ahead, I can’t seem to work it,’ Stef moved away from the person waiting patiently next to her. Rubbing her nose with her hand, she cleared her throat, not sure where to look or what to do. Fearful of moving her eyes across the room in case she were to see Jared’s family again or worse, Jared himself. She couldn’t face him now.
Claire arrived, hair swinging, bosom bouncing, a huge grin on her face. ‘Hey did you get me coffee?’
Her smile turned to a horrified look, ‘you ok?’ Rubbing Stef’s shoulder. ‘You gonna puke?’
‘Maybe,’ Stef replied, ‘Can we grab a seat?’
Finding a small table hidden behind a huge, ugly plant, Stef told Claire what had just happened.
‘So she thanked you for sleeping with her husband? She’s a better woman than I would be.’
‘Claire!’ Stef pinched the bridge of her nose, the toast on her plate now finding its way to Claire’s mouth.
‘What?’ the redhead replied, ‘She could have ignored you, or punched you, or made a scene, but she didn’t. Sounds like she was just as shocked to bump into you.’
Stef nodded, her brow furrowed. ‘My life is not normal. This is getting awkward.’
‘This is probably the only time you will ever meet her or even see her, just chill.’
Stef blew out a breath, rubbing her sweaty hands against her jeans.
‘I’m gonna get you a coffee and a chocolate croissant, then we can go see Richard. He will make you laugh and forget your troubles.’
Stef groaned.
‘Now that was my attitude when I first came to the con, you changed my mind. C’mon.’
‘Is it bad that I want a Margarita for breakfast?’
‘Yes, it is, this situation is not that bad.’
***
Claire hadn’t let Stef hide away in the room, which was a good thing. The convention was so big, the chances of her running into Gen again were slim, but Stef kept looking over her shoulder anyway. She regretted agreeing to see Jared at the photo op’s, but bit the bullet - well, asking Richard to scope out the room first and waiting for him to come back and confirm it was mostly Padalecki-free.
Stef had never seen this section of a convention before, people lining up to take silly/well thought out pictures with Jared and Jensen.
Jensen smiled and nodded when he saw Stef waiting off to the side. He leaned in to say something to Jared, who turned his head so quickly in her direction, his hair flipped into Jensen’s face, hitting his friend in the eye. The people close enough to see roared with laughter. Jared was falling over himself apologising to Jensen, clapping him on the back with his huge hand, winking over at Stef.
‘I see why you like him,’ the familiar voice next to her made her smile. ’Tall, handsome, funny. I’d hit it.’
‘Oscar,’ Stef scolded softly. He was alone, standing with his hands in his pockets.
‘Where’s your date?’
Oscar made a dismissive sound, ’She bounced, I’m really good at making people feel unwanted, apparently. It’s a talent, it would seem.’
‘She left?’ Stef shook her head, laughing.
‘Yes, she did. She said I wasn’t emotionally available.’ Leaning in so that only Stef would hear. ‘I’m kinda glad, she was jealous about everything.’
‘You’re not into chicks that are fawning over you?’ Stef bit her lower lip.
‘Nah, maybe I just didn’t like her.’
‘You heading home today?’
‘Yeah, you?’
‘You don’t sound excited.’ Stef was watching a couple set up their photo, within seconds their experience was over. A fleeting moment that would stay with them forever.
Jared made eye contact with her and pulled one side of his mouth into a grin, looking over Oscar quickly and greeting the next in line.
‘Want me to get out of your hair?’ Oscar murmured.
‘No,’ Stef hooked her arm into his, changing the direction so she was walking away from Jared’s line of sight.
‘We haven’t had time to hang much at all.’
‘You want to hang with me?’
‘Yeah.’ Stef squeezed his arm. Oscar’s chest puffed out a little.
‘What’ll we do then.’
‘I saw a stall with some stuff that had your Star Wars guy, Darius specifically requested something with your face on it.’
Pushing his tongue between his teeth, Oscar threw his head back to laugh.
‘Why the fuck not, let’s buy my own merchandise.’
***
Jared: Where did you go? Photo ops just done.
Stef: Just grabbing a drink, you want one?
Jared: I’ll meet you in the bar, I’ll be about 5 minutes.
‘Is that him?’ Oscar eyed her over his drink, taking a long gulp and sighing.
‘Yes, he’ll be down here in a few minutes.’ Stef put a hand on his arm. He had rolled up his shirt sleeves. One fist resting on his hip and he cocked an eyebrow, glancing around the room, he looked too hot. Stef had to check herself.
‘Why are you looking at me like that?’ He said, not looking at her, his eyes resting on a pair of blondes sitting at the opposite end of the bar.
‘Like what? I don’t want you to go if that’s what you mean.’ Stef pouted.
‘No, you’re looking at me like I’m lunch.’
Stef opened her mouth to laugh, involuntarily spitting her drink across his lap.
‘Oh shit, I’m so sorry.’
Oscar brushed the droplets away, laughing too much to form a coherent sentence. ‘I didn’t think it would have that effect.’
Wiping her chin with a napkin, she eyed him curiously.’ What kind of reaction did you think you would get?’
‘I dunno, I thought it might make you argue with me.’
‘You want an argument?’
’Nah, I just wanted to wind you up a little before your dude gets here.’
‘My dude, as you say, is already here.’ Stef raised her eyebrows in greeting as Jared made his way toward them. Oscar turned his head, not bothering to adjust how he was sitting, legs splayed open, knees on the outside of Stef’s, keeping her sitting in place at the bar.
‘Hey,’ Jared said softly, tucking hair behind his ear.
‘Hi,’ Stef grinned up at him. He was nervous, shifty.
‘I guess I should formally introduce you both.’
They did that thing that men do when they don’t think women notice, they were eyeing each other, sizing each other up. Shaking hands and making pleasantries. Neither spoke, waiting for Stef to break the ice.
‘We will be leaving after lunch.’
‘Isn’t lunch, like, right now.’ Jared checked his watch.
‘Shit it is. Where the hell is Claire??’ Stef reached into her bag and checked her phone. No messages. Typical.
‘I cannot trust that woman around Richard, my god!’ Stef huffed, pressing the call button and listening to the tone on the other end, knowing Claire wouldn’t be picking up.
‘She could be back in the room.’
Oscar was half grinning, a knowing look on his face. ‘Better go check, you don’t wanna miss your flight again.’
‘Again?’ Jared was looking incredibly awkward now.
‘Oh, Claire has made Effie miss a couple of flights over the years. She almost missed a video shoot her band was doing in Italy.’
‘Oh don’t remind me, that woman causes me stress I could do without.’ Giving up on the idea of Claire picking up her damn phone.
‘I gotta head back up to the room anyway, we will be leaving soon too.’
Jared put a hand gently on Stef’s elbow, hoping to get her up off her seat and away from Oscar.
‘Yeah I’ll walk with you,’ turning to Oscar, placing a beer mat on top of her glass. ‘Mind my spot for a few minutes?’
Oscar nodded, turning his attention back to the blondes at the bar.
‘Nice to meet you, man.’ Jared offered Oscar his hand, the shorter man taking it, ‘You too, finally.’ Oscar winked at Stef as she walked away.
Stepping into the elevator, they were finally alone. Jared grabbed her waist, drawing her to him. ‘Damn, I’ve wanted to kiss you all fucking day.’ His teeth were nipping at her lips, teasing. Stef stood on her tip toes, trying to reach his mouth. ‘Kiss me then.’
Jared groaned when their lips met. It wasn’t long enough. The doors were opening on her floor. He took her hand in his, leading her down the hall. Stef was looking down at her small hand wrapped in his. ‘That ok?’ He squeezed her fingers.
‘Yeah, just surprising.’
Jared shrugged, stepping behind her as she slid the key card into the hotel room door. They were greeted with two naked bodies writhing on the bed.
‘Oh god!’ Stef covered her face, unable to tear her eyes away from Richard’s naked ass bouncing as he pummelled into Claire.
Pulling the door closed with a bang, she covered her face, eyes wide. ‘How can I un see that?’ She gasped, laughing so much she thought she would puke.
Jared was on his knees, unable to speak.
It took a few minutes for them to calm down, Richard’s frantic cries of ‘are you guys still out there?’ made the situation worse. Neither Stef nor Jared could answer him.
Jared had managed to drop his gum onto the carpet, causing him to laugh even more.
‘Don’t put that back in your mouth.’
‘That’s what she said.’
‘Oh Jared, please stop, I’m in pain from laughing.’
A large hand was on her back, her face was suddenly crushed into his chest. He was gasping for air like he had run a race.
‘Well that’s put a good ending to a rough weekend.’ Jared was wiping tears from his eyes.
Stef remembered running into Gen earlier in the day, her stomach twisting with guilt. Or maybe it was jealousy. Or a sickening mixture of both.
Swallowing, she looked up at Jared.
‘What’s up, babe?’
‘Nothing.’ She lied, kissing him gently on the mouth.
‘You sure?’
‘Yeah, I’ll just miss you is all.’
‘You have good company downstairs, Oscar is keeping your seat for you at the bar.’
‘Jared…’ Stef wanted to explain what had happened earlier, but he cut her off with another kiss.
‘I’ll call you tomorrow, I’ll be back home. After the kids go to bed. Sound good?’
’Sounds good.’ Stef agreed, unable to hide the disappointment in her eyes at how this weekend had panned out.
Richard opened the door, having dressed himself in a hurry. ‘Come on, man.’ he said to Jared, pushing past them, his cheeks flushed, hair tossed from Claire’s fingers.
‘Gotta go.’ Jared kissed her quick and left, following Richard down the hall.
Stef stuck her head in the door, ‘you decent?’
‘Doesn’t matter, you saw everything just now.’ Claire wasn’t half as bashful as Richard.
‘Oscar is waiting for me at the bar. Meet us down there?’
‘Let me just fix my sex hair and I’ll be down.’
When Stef made it back down to the bar, she saw Oscar talking to a woman. She was hitting his arm and laughing. It was fake. Everything about her was. You can spot when someone wants someone because of their fame, and this was one of those vacuous women.
Stef put her arm between them to get her drink. ‘Oh hey, you’re back.’ Oscar looked happy at her reappearance.
She was one of the blondes he had been ogling. His face said ‘please help.’ And while Stef would usually have left him to it, she decided on this occasion to do a good deed.
’I’m Stef,’ she said, sticking her hand out for the stranger, who took it, gingerly.
‘Sorry, are you with him?’ She asked, pointing a talon at Oscar’s chest.
‘Yeah,’ Stef said simply.
The blonde looked her up and down, taking in the old Nike’s, loose jeans and band t-shirt.
‘Call me,’ she mouthed to Oscar, swaying back toward her friend.
‘Do not call her.’ Stef warned, sliding back onto the barstool, her legs fitting snuggly between Oscar’s again.
‘Just filling the time til you came back,’ Oscar sighed, leaning his torso toward her.
‘You look flushed, what’s up.’
‘I just caught Claire and Richard fucking.’ Stef looked at him, wide eyed and excited.
Oscar put a hand over his mouth, his nose scrunched up as he laughed. ‘No fucking way.’
Stef finished off her beer in one gulp. ‘Buy me another one and I’ll describe Richard’s ass to you.’
‘Oh fuck, please don’t. But, I’ll definitely buy you another drink.’ Oscar winked, turning to grab the barman’s attention.
Butterflies. He had given her butterflies with that look.
Fuck, she thought

GoT Season 8, Episode 2: Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Thoughts
Like i am not even sure this episode's name is that or "The rightful queen" but I am going with the title I liked more.
I was fully intending of making a big ass Recap like I usually do but today I had a lot of work and I feel like everyone has already talked about the episode since it was leaked so I am just gonna talk about some scenes that I think will be relevant and my take on some shipping stuff.
Again I warn that I don't root for D Targy at all (but I do think she is an amazing character) and she annoys the heck out of me most often than not so... if she is your fave pls don't read this cuz it's not for you.
.
.
On Jaime Lannister
I feel this was a great episode for him as a character, while I do wish he would have said something about the wildfire on King's Landing or the Loot Attack I ultimately think that what he did say was the best thing in his PoV because he thinks D is the North's queen now that Jon bent the knee so ofc he wasn't gonna antagonize her that much when he was at clear disadvantage.
His chat with Tyrion was also very good, tho I feel in the books this will be more on a bitter note given Jamie's confession about Tysha, but yeah they are close once again and I appreciate that.
Every scene he had with Brienne had me swooning.Brienne defending him in the Great Hall. All those stares. The clear tension between them and the fact that Brienne doesn't know what to do when they are on the same side and he is not insulting her, so they still fight and pant around each other and I love it (honestly this kind of fighting is a lot like the Jonsa one because they have to get rid of that UST but they can't fuck or even kiss yet so they bicker and pant around each other). I noticed how he stared at Tormund and immediately knew he was intrested in Brienne. And ofc him knighting Brienne was the best of the episode for me (hence my preference of the title aluding to this scene).
On Sansa Stark
Curious that we don't get Sansa or Jon's PoV this episode, just them through other people's eyes.
The Great Hall scene: while I would have loved Sansa defending Jaime like in some fics, I think it does make sense that she feels resentment towards him and his family, but she still was willing to trust him once Brienne spoke on his behalf which says a lot for their relationship and how much Sansa has come to trust and value Brienne and her opinions. She was completely a queen in that scene, she even left the place frist not giving a fuck whatsoever about D.
Tête-à-tête with the gecko queen: Sophie Turner is an amazing actress. Ok so I loved she was telling Lord Royce she wanted to leave the Gates open as long as possible, such a compassionate queen, but also the moment D steps in I lived for Lord Royce clearly showing more respect and deference towards Sansa than towards D (I mean that the whole North respects Sansa as their leader is the very reason why Jorah asked D to talk to her). We see Sansa be closed off towards D in the beginnig even when D is trying hard to be sympathetic to sansa and bond over them being good leaders to their people (bihhh Sansa laughed and so did I cuz just how deluded is D to think she is on Sansa's level of good leadeeship), and D asks the question we have since ep 1 "does that (Jon's love for D) bother you?" And I am absolutely sure that the answer to that is yes, but Sansa was never going to show herself that much to someone she doesn't trust nor even likes (this girl out played LF ffs!!!) so she went for a non-commital answer (is not a yes or a no, she is justifying her distrust for D and appears not to be jealous but a concerned sister) D is appeased by this answer and tries to show Sansa that her and Jon's relationship is real (lmaoo) by stating just how much she sacrified her goals just for his love (like nice that she doesn't pretend to care for the people she wants to be queen of anymore, the Jonsa fandom said this since last season) and straight up says she is the one being manipulated by Jon, and Sansa's face is a poem, cuz you can see exactly the moment when she figures out that Jon is manipulating D!! We even get a smile of relief and promptly she catches herself and changes her behaviour implying she should apologize (but she never actually does) and even lauguing at how short Jon is (Sansa bites her lip tho 👀👀 and D's smile is so fake idk who she thinks she is fooling) but Sansa again brings up the North and D is visibly upset at that.
Scenes with Theon: I am just going to straight up say I do ship Theonsa and I have read fics of them, but I do not think it will be canon or that it makes narrative or political sense cuz it doesn't. Their reunion was heartwarming and beautiful (tho D jealous stare bothered me, like fuck off I wanna see my babies) Sansa was clearly happy at seeing Theon more like himself and having him want to fight for their family. Their scene with the soup was cute but I did not see it as shippy at all, there is definitely affection and care but I don't think it was shot as romance or a couple's montague, it was simply showing us all the different ways the characters we know spend this night. As much as it hurts me because I love Theon, I think it is possible he will die protecting Bran (I really don't want this, but it's a big possibility, cuz I know some big characters must die in order to destroy us as much as possible, and this scenes with Sansa might just serve that purpose) so I'll just drown in theonsa fics if that happens. Also, it kinda make me go 👀👀 the fact that they made the theonsa scenes so alike the jonsa s6 ones but without all that flirty stuff on the soup scene and that it was enough for the GA and some Aegonys to ship it while we know Theon like Jon also grew up with Sansa in WF. Idk it was kinda amusing to me.
On Jon Snow
Ok so this made a lot of sense to me, Jon avoiding D post parentage reveal is what seals pol!Jon to me, if he really loved her he would have gone statight to her in the night and confess this thing he found out while crying and looking for her support and being all hopless longingly staring at her but nope he doesn't even want to look at her (he is probably thinking how he fucked his aunt and shudders). I was also like 👀👀 when he pushed past D to follow Sansa, did they talk?? Did they fight again??? I am thirsty, but it was also a good thing Jon didn't interact with Sansa cuz it would give the game away too soon, as a matter of fact Jon doesn't seek her out like last episode as far as the audience knows and I think that is because he doesn't know what to do he is having an existencial crisis in the middle of the Apocalipsis, and Sam is like have you told her yet??? He knows shit could hit the fan at any minute. I loved his reunion with Tormund and Edd because I love Jon's smile and he has been just miserable since last ep, so yeah I need my boy to be happy.
Now onto the reveal, I think Jon genuinely thought he might as well just say it, D clearly seeked him out for some loving sexy times and Jon was not on board with that, he just couldn't keep it up with her cuz he doesn't love her, never has and now she is his aunt, he just can't do that knowing they are super related, also now D can't leave them (I mean she kind of can fuck off in Drogon and maybe Rhaegal will follow, but her armies can't leave, and they have the obsidian so...) . The fact he called her D@ny is so layered, for starters she told him straight up not to call her that cuz it reminds her of Viserys, so it connects them as family and upsets D at the same time. D straight up thinks that Bran and Sam would make shit up to usurp her (bihhh no one but u and Cersei gives a fuck about the ugly ass chair) and then when she sees Jon is saying the truth she is furious (so much for the aegony marriage fix up that her stans dreamed off, also can we fucking kiss boatie goodbye?? Cuz that sure as hell ain't happening) and Jon is baffled, he knows she wants the IT more than anything and shit but really??? They are about to die, and he has left more than clear to any one that would listen that he doesn't care about titles. Not only that but Jon and her are family now,and family is important to Jon, and she reacts like this???
On Gendrya
I was a bit wierded out cuz we have seen Maise since she was a kid (lmaoo i am like a year older than her) but more power to her for the scene, also I really love Gendrya and their interactions have been so flirty and charged with chemistry. I am worried about Gendry's survival, but I think he might live.
On everything else:
I loved Gilly and Dadvos's scene, it was so good and I wish they would give Gilly more lines.
Missandei and Greyworm making plans for after the war makes me worried one of them will die, also now that D will feel betrayed by Jon, I fear she will think GW and Missandei wanting to leave is also treason. I AM WORRIED. Also to ppl doesn't trust Missandei cuz she is with d and nobody in the north trusts Targs not even children.
Tyrion talking about destroying Cersei made him seem more Book!Tyrion than ever and I just shudderd. D literally never wants to take responsability for any desicion when she refused to fight for the north if Cersei didn't joined them. Also she would really have named Jorah hand??? She is dumb as a brick. His scene with Jaime, Brienne and co. Was cute.
Podrick was looking fine and his voice was really good. Also that Jenny of Oldstone song with all it's jonsa vibes 👀👀.

❝ Everyone has their price. From the highest to the lowest, we will all bargain. ❞
TW: Drugs
The blonde turned as Fane entered the vehicle and settled beside Faye. “Wands please.” Her voice was lightly accented, but Faye couldn’t quite place it. The woman held out her hand expectantly as the car doors shut and the locking mechanisms clicked into place.
Faye’s first instinct was to tell the woman where she could shove her own wand, but she paused, looking at Fane. She knew he was proficient at wandless magic. And Faye herself knew more than most. Her own proficiency wasn’t common knowledge to those she hadn’t worked closely with. And Fane’s… well, it was even less common knowledge. Another advantage on their end. But still, giving up her wand…
“Fine. But I’ll know if it’s been tampered with. And I won’t like it.” Faye reluctantly held hers out, feeling slightly ill as the woman took it with a small nod.
She placed it in a shallow, rectangular compartment that had slid out of the vehicle’s dash. There was a crackle of magic, and then all was still again. The woman turned back once more, holding out her hand again, this time to Fane. An eyebrow rose above a golden eye, and she made no attempt to hide the way her gaze traveled over him. “Wand.”
“Well, you know” he flashed her a cheeky smile as she remarked on his attempt to show off with getting the code to the door. However, the smugness vanished a moment later as they stepped out onto an empty alley that smelled like a dumpster dive and a half. Faye’s words mimicked his thoughts, and he glanced up and down the alleyway only the meow of the cat serving to stop his sweeping gaze (which immediately set Fane on edge regardless of the fact whether it was an ordinary cat or not). Faye knew of his distaste towards the creatures but there was something about how it slinked away that set him on even more edge compared to usual.
Still, Fane wrinkled his nose before ultimately following after Faye leaving the alleyway and stepping out onto the wider street beyond. Quiet at this hour of the night and lit only by the orange glow of the street lamps which reflected off the tinted windows of the Bugatti. Another look was sent in Faye’s direction, a look that clearly said he didn’t like this very much at all before he let her climb in following shortly after. He caught the eye of the woman now sat up front in the mirror, not that anything was said over the quiet rumble of the engine. But then she turned and was asking for their wands and Fane was tempted to glibly and rather sarcastically reply if there was anything else she’d like. Considering they weren’t in the position to do much of anything right now if they wanted what they’d set out this evening to find. Though getting the impression that comment wouldn’t be appreciated by his counterpart in the back seat he instead remained silent.
Faye handed over her wand, while Fane merely continued to stare at the woman seemingly unfazed by her, the demands or the situation. The crackle of magic set the hairs at the nape of his neck on end but it was hardly anything compared to what came next. A lifetime of being reduced to a tale people knew about rendered you growing used to a certain amount of objectification, being viewed as just another marketing pitch to support one side or another whether that was in the war or whether it was about Dark Arts in general. Of course, Fane knew he was attractive in the similar fashion a wild, untamed panther might be considered the same though it was debatable whether it was his elegance, careful precision or potential for harm was what drew people’s eyes. He’d woven it as just another layer into his armour, using his physicality and appearance to distract and deflect because better people look more closely at that than the things that lay beyond. So while a part of her gaze made his skin crawl it was relatively easy to compartmentalise such discomfort away, unlike Faye no words were spoken as he withdrew it from the sleeve of his jacket and handed it over.
“Wonderful,” the woman said placing the wand into the container just as she did Faye’s sealing it shut as a small wave of magic hummed through the car before the top of the container seemingly disappeared. Despite the fact Fane couldn’t see his wand, he could still sense it and that brought a certain measure of comfort at least as the car was put into gear and pulled away from the curb to wherever their destination was meant to be.
Faye didn’t miss the way the other woman’s eyes moved over Fane. She watched the other blonde for a moment, her own eyes flicking briefly to Fane as he let himself be ogled. A small huff left her as she turned to look out the window as the car pulled away.
Faye knew how other women looked at Fane. Men too. The ones not glaring with suspicion at least. She saw it everywhere they went. People looked at Fane with desire. With lust. And it was understandable. He was undeniably handsome. There was a darkness to him that was also undeniable. And not just because of his black hair and dark eyes, or the stubble that lined his chin and jaw. It was something much more than that. An inner darkness. People were drawn to him. If only for what they thought he could give them. Not always, of course. There were those that liked Fane for other reasons. Respected him. Some might even call them friends. Though other than Maya and Tuah, there was no one Faye could lay the claim to on his behalf.
The thing was, people might think they wanted the darkness. But once they saw it, once they laid eyes on the truth, or felt it against their skin, they realized they weren’t prepared. That they only liked the idea of it. But Faye, she knew all the horrors. All the ugly truths. All the painful ones. She accepted every part of him. The anxiety. The drugs. The alcohol. The self-harm. The sexual experimentation (though that part she enjoyed quite thoroughly). His fascination with the macabre (that she shared). All of it and more she accepted, because she loved him.
And when people looked at him like he was a piece of meat, a pretty face and a charming smile, or a warm body and a cock… it riled Faye’s nerves.
“Something vexes?” the woman’s voice said from up front.
Faye glanced up, meeting the other’s golden gaze in the rear view. There was a smirk at the corner of those eyes. “Just the fact that I can’t slam your pretty face into the dashboard yet.”
The golden eyes flickered ever so slightly, but held Faye’s gaze for a moment longer before looking away first. Faye didn’t bother to smirk back. She turned back to the passing scenery, watching as they left the city and drove into the countryside. Maybe half an hour later and they were turning down a wooded drive. Faye felt the tingle of wards as they passed through, and looked over to Fane. They could have easily been apparated here instead of the dog and pony (or cat, as the case might be) show of the expensive car and the long drive. Unless the place had anti-apparition wards around it. Possible. That, and it gave whoever had decided they were worth talking to (no smart person would go this far just to kill them; they’d just do it and be done) time to prepare.
Faye raised an eyebrow as they pulled up to the expansive home. Modern and sleek, and looking nothing like most wealthy wizarding homes, it was impressive. Faye glanced at Fane as they got out of the car and started to follow the blonde - still in possession of their wands - towards the front door. “Your kinda place, hm?”
He was more than used to it by now, it was why Fane made no comment opting instead to simply ignore it and get on with what needed to be done which right now meant sitting in the back of the car and watching the route they took. Unlike Faye he blatantly ignored the woman driving, regardless of how many looks she cast in the rearview mirror in his direction. He’d gotten good at tuning out those looks whether they were curious or accusational it was all the same branch by now he’d become an expert at navigating that particular minefield. Fane was more interested in committing the details of their route out of the city to memory, making a mental note of the signs and routes they took to get a more specific idea of where it was they were headed.
Not even Faye’s brief conversation (more warning) with their driver drew his attention from the window, his eyes trained on the environment outside than keyed into the situation within the car. Though he doubted wherever it was they were headed there would be anything incriminating upon their visit. Criminals were annoyingly tidy like that, at least-- well, the good ones were and these guys had been in operation for long enough and not been shut down to prove they were at least talented in something. How long it would last? That was yet to be seen.
So by the time they arrived at the estate and Fane felt the hairs rise along his arms at the latent tingle of protective wards being breached he stirred from a seemingly silent and idle trance. Sitting up and turning his eyes towards the building the car approached and climbed out when the car came to a stop. “I suppose,” he answered vaguely looking to his right and then left scanning the general perimeter and making a note of the general layout of the building. Though with this much land who was to say what else might’ve been hidden. But he fell into step beside Faye as they followed the woman inside the building, sensing a stronger spectrum of magic with each step that drew them nearer.
Faye’s comments (which Fane saw for exactly what they were) served two purposes. One, they let this woman know that Faye wasn’t scared of her, and that taking her wand wouldn’t change that fact. And two, it pulled the attention away from Fane to Faye. Which also served more than one purpose. The least of which was because Faye simply didn’t like how the woman looked at him. More importantly though (for now), it was because Faye could play the antagonist well enough, and intended to. She wasn’t trying to draw Fane’s attention, nor did she expect him to comment on, or join in, her brief exchange with the other woman. His seemingly bored expression as he looked out the window declared nothing other than he was unimpressed with the whole ordeal. Though Faye knew he was taking in everything.
They arrived and were escorted inside. “You suppose?” she said in return, pausing in the foyer as two large men clad in black suits scanned them with a powerful Revelio Charm. “I figured you for a bigger is better is best kinda guy.” The banter was merely a distraction, and a way to try and place a false sense of how their partnership worked in the mind of others. Faye’s skin tingled as the charm flowed over her. Fortunately, between her Auror training and Fane’s own bag of tricks, the magical comms went undetected.
The charm drifting over Fane glowed blue, and he was waved through to where the golden-eyed woman waited patiently. Faye’s however, glowed red. The man cancelled it, and pointed his wand at her instead. “You’re glamoured. Turn it off. Now.” There was no emotion in the man’s voice as he held his wand steadily at Faye.
Faye’s brow twitched ever so slightly, and her eyes flicked to Fane before she could help it. “I said now. Or you leave. And only he stays.”
Faye knew the man was serious. And like hell was she letting Fane go alone. Her eyes flicked back to the man holding her at wandpoint. Tilting her chin up just a bit, the muscles in her jaw flexing with indignation, Faye dropped her glamours. Her scars - hidden expertly under the veil of magic - swam back into view, the dress she was wearing doing little to cover most of them. “Happy?” Faye said tightly, feeling utterly exposed with her scars on such blatant display for these… strangers. The fact that her biggest weakness - Fane himself - stood only a few feet away, was for a moment overshadowed by the violation she felt.
“At least you’ve still got your face,” the other woman said from across the way. There was no mistaking the jab hidden under her words. Faye’s eyes slid in her direction, but she was already moving up the large staircase that flanked the entryway.
The man didn’t speak again. He simply stepped aside and waved Faye through. She went without hesitation, stomping past Fane without a word and heading up the stairs. Fuck this. Fuck these people. When they got what they needed, Faye was going to break the bitch’s nose. The old-fashioned way.
A few turns, some long hallways, and a staircase or two later and they were finally led through one last doorway. The room on the other side wasn’t overly large, but it was opulent. Sleek lines, tall ceilings, marble and glass and just the right amount of warmth from the fireplace directly across from the door. The woman left Faye and Fane standing as she moved off through a passageway at the back.
“Forewarning: I’m gonna break her nose,” Faye said quietly enough that only Fane could hear. She was struggling to ignore the fact that her scars were visible. She never went anywhere with them uncovered. Only in her home and Fane’s flat. But she didn’t have time to think on it too hard.
A woman with long dark hair, dark eyes, and tanned skin appeared from the back hallway. She was a bit taller than Faye, but not as tall as Fane. Early-50s maybe. Dressed in an outfit that did absolutely nothing to hide how absolutely beautiful she was. She smiled a closed-lip smile at them as she walked over.
“So… tell me…” the woman began. Her voice was warm, and lightly accented. “What could possibly be of enough importance to the Ministry that they send their second best Auror-”
Faye did not miss the emphasis on ‘second best.’ Or the fact that the jig was, apparently, up. As they say.
“- and the infamous Stefan Savin into my club?”
There was a tone to the woman’s voice as she said Fane’s name that made Faye’s skin crawl. But like before, she kept silent for now.
The woman walked over to a side-bar and poured herself a drink. “Boris will be hard to replace. If he lives, that is.” She turned back towards them, sipping the dark liquid. “What do you want?” A small pause as she swallowed. “I won’t ask again.”
Faye took a step forwards.“Information. On stolen wands. I know your syndicate deals in them.”
The woman smirked around the rim of her glass. “And why would I give you that kind of information? If I even had it?”
Faye shrugged. “Because Boris, who is so important to you, drugged me, assaulted me, and would’ve raped me - if not more - if my associate hadn’t shown up. You cooperate, I don’t report it. I don’t put Boris away for life. Don’t cooperate…” Faye shrugged again. “I’m sure Boris would be happy to spill everything he knows in order to stay out of Azkaban.”
Fane glanced over at Faye from where he stood still looking rather unimpressed by their environment and the attempt at a show of power by the lackies sent to scan them. Fane let them do what they wanted not particularly caring because he knew that if push came to shove he could still probably win against them. “I’d argue it depends on sort of sort of thing we’re talking about in the first place hm? This--” he waved his hand idly at the building “bit boring, not to mention cliché. I mean-- if you’re going for top of the chain criminal I’d be expecting a bit more ingenuity hm?” When he was cleared Fane brushed off the guard, but paused as they stopped Faye where she was and though there was no change in his expression a perceptual shift in his eyes as he looked over at her showed his concern.
Fane would have been fine to go in alone, but before she even made her choice Fane knew she’d be damned to let him go anywhere with this snake of a woman or anywhere else for that matter. He wouldn’t have minded going it alone, but he knew her too well and as the glamours faded he simply looked on impassively though the jab that fell from the other woman’s lips caused him to turn a distasteful look her way. His chin lifted, and he decided that this woman would very much be better off without her tongue. Apparently this would be a night of continued bladework if what he’d done to Boris earlier was any consideration. He let Faye walk ahead, trailing up the rear of the group considering the security had remained in the foyer. He made no attempt to rush, instead taking the guide at his own pace eyeing hallways and ornaments, attempting to piece together the things they had to say about the owner of this opulent estate.
Finally, they arrived at their destination and Fane stepped away to peer at a painting above the fireplace “I don’t blame you,” he said under his breath his comms picking it up for her to hear despite him being on the other side of the room. As the sound of heels striking the floor echoed from the hallway beyond Fane knew he could have turned, but maintaining the air of disinterest he sniffed only as she spoke did he bother to turn. Again, he said nothing as he was acknowledged his lips pressed in a thin line and eyes studying her in a fashion that gave no intent to his own reasons for being here.
“I doubt that’s true,” he finally said a cold clip to his tone “after all, let’s be frank there’s hardly ever going to be a shortage of greedy capitalists monopolising off of the suffering of normal people they consider their lessers now is there?”
“You wound me Mister Savin…” her ruby red lips curled into an insincere smirk as she touched her chest over the spot her heart supposedly resided.
“I doubt that.”
But she was right, there was a point to them being here and Fane knew that what Faye had to say wouldn’t likely be enough to convince this woman to give what they wanted. “Or, perhaps a little more incentive--” Fane stepped closer moving to pluck the glass from the table and considering it before his dark eyes raised “give us what we want and I’ll consider not telling some of your top associate’s that you trade files on their families, their background and ways to access them in return for your own advancement?” The friendly edge to the woman’s expression dimmed growing glassy and cool but Fane merely pressed on “pray tell, how would business be when it’s revealed to your fellows you’ve doublecrossed them all at some point or another without their knowing?” He let the words hang a moment “you won’t be a very popular woman then I’m betting hm?”
Faye had merely hummed as Fane acknowledged her violent intent towards the woman in red. But as the real person they needed to talk to came into the room, and Faye said her piece, she merely watched for a moment as Fane added his cards to the pile.
The way the woman’s expression changed let Faye know that what Fane said was getting beneath her seemingly thick skin. Drug lord or not, everyone had their weakness. And it seemed Fane had already drawn blood. But weak spot or not, the woman known on the street at Kali wasn’t going to allow herself to be shaken down quite so easily.
“Are you a betting man, Mr. Savin?” she asked, swirling the dark liquid in her glass until it had refilled itself. “You seem the type. Though actually... no…” Her eyes studied Fane carefully, narrowing ever so slightly. “You enjoy a good wager, but that’s not your vice, is it?” Kali smiled, her straight white teeth standing out against the red of her lips.
Faye, who had seemingly been excluded from the conversation, simply watched. For now. Whatever this woman was doing, she seemed nonplussed- other than the change of expression that Faye had caught before it too disappeared - by the threat Fane had just made. Seeming to ignore it as easily as she had Faye’s. She did, however, take a step or two towards Fane, on the pretense of hearing what the woman had to say. And being close enough to react if something went awry.
Kali raised her free hand and snapped her fingers twice. From the other room, the woman who had brought them here - now in a black dress - strode out. In her hands she carried what looked like a normal, silver serving tray. She sat it down on the coffee table in front of the fire place, and then moved off to stand out of the way.
Faye watched her closely, but the woman ignored her, staring straight ahead as she took up her post.
“As you say, I would be an extremely unpopular person indeed if my… associates… were to come across the wrong sort of information. Which may or may not exist.” She sat down on the couch, gesturing that Fane and Faye should do so as well if they wished. “But I wouldn’t be where I am if I took such things for granted. So…” This time she did glance at Faye. “One name, one wand. One dispensible entity traded for another. Unless he’s already dead.” Boris may or may not have bled out yet, and honestly Faye couldn’t care less. But she couldn’t afford to lose any information this might gain. “Two wands, two names. And I don’t arrest Boris. If he’s still alive. If he’s dead,” Faye shrugged. “Then I’ll settle for your first offer. And the matter goes away. Entirely.”
Kali seemed to consider this. “Perhaps. We’ll know soon enough. My men are handling it.” Faye was dismissed again, and Kali looked to Fane. “And for you, Mr. Savin, for your… discretion.” She indicated the tray, which held a variety of colorful pills and tablets; vials and tiny plastic bags that contained powders and liquid of varying consistency, thickness, and hue. There was even what looked like an old-fashoined glass dropper bottle filled with a liquid that shimmered and shifted as Faye frowned at it.
She knew what a few of them were, and what they did. So her eyes shifted to Fane as Kali continued. “Tell me what you desire-” Again, she indicated the tray. “- and it’s yours. No charge. Let’s call it an incentive... to keep you up and running for as long as you keep my secrets. Or until your own come back to claim you. Though my way is much more pleasurable, I’m certain.” Kali leaned back into the cushions then, and sipped her drink. If she was stalling, or testing them, or simply full of shit, she was hiding it well now. Her earlier slip having caught her by surprise. “The little red ones are particularly good for… stamina.” Her eyes crawled over him again, and that expression was one she didn’t try to hide.
“You do realize I could arrest you for this?” Faye said evenly, looking away from Fane and indicating the tray of drugs.
“Yes,” Kali said. “But you won’t. I have what you need. And your partner… well, I have what he wants, so…”
Kali wasn’t the first woman of her sort that Fane had dealings with in the past. You didn’t have a habit like his without knowing the people that could fund and supply it which meant you had to know how to deal with them. Bargain, barter, trade until a satisfactory end was met. While Kali was good at schooling her expression the momentary lapse he gained proved he’d rattled her something people like her hated. “What would you say?” he said in answer to her question never breaking her gaze, just as when you were in the wild looking away first could prove disastrous. Predators used eye-contact to serve their challenge and this silent-battle of wills was something all too similar. Despite her mention of vices Fane failed to react or give an inch, “you’ll have to do better than that if you expect to impress me.” With that Fane knocked back the drink but pulled a face “Macallan twelve?” he tsked setting the glass down with a clink “I’d expect something far higher quality than a twelve… Let’s hope your other offers are better quality otherwise I’m not sure I see any reason in not just sending word to the street right now.”
“That’s a sharp tongue you have there, but don’t assume Mister Savin,” she purred blanking Faye entirely her attention devoted entirely to him in a fashion that might’ve made his skin crawl if he wasn’t used to it. Just as it was earlier with the woman in the car. But as the other woman returned and Kali moved to the sofa Fane eyed the tray recognising a fair few items that happened to rest on it from sight alone. It took him a moment to stop himself from tracking the tray, blinking and curling his fingers a little as he forced himself to follow Faye sitting down beside her while doing his best to ignore the array of items under his nose. Which frankly, was easier said that done and more than once Fane found his eyes drifting down to eye the substances most of which he’d dabbled with on one occassion or another while Faye spoke business.
But he was once again addressed and Fane once again had to force himself to focus, his hands pressed a little more firmly to his thighs in an attempt to control his fidgeting. Faye knew of certain aspects when it came to the things he dabbled in, the opium in his apartment an unacknowledged but known fact but there were other controlled substances he didn’t so willingly share. Or particularly want her to know about. It was a hole, one he’d fallen into a long time ago and one he preferred not to let people see him struggle with. Unfortunately, she drew his attention back down and Fane’s nose wrinkled in feigned distaste even though his eyes betrayed his interest. “Well I don’t need anything for my stamina,” his thumb rubbed against his index finger then before raising to rub his chin “do you though? I don’t see any bliss there and if you’re a top businesswoman as you claim it’s rather disappointing that you aren’t offering your best considering what it’ll cost you otherwise.” In reality Fane was sorely tempted to ask for a little of everything, why not? But with Faye sat by his side he had to willingly curb his tongue despite how much he was itching to just utter the request.
Faye watched him as closely as she was able and still keep the ‘professional distance’ required by their job. She wasn’t stupid. She knew there were probably things - like the ones on the tray - that Fane used and didn’t let her know about. Things much stronger - and potentially much more lethal - than the opium he smoked freely around her now. She’d found traces of other things, muggle drugs, and made a mental note about it. But she never said anything. But she watched him. Closer than he might even realize.
Though right now, her attention was once more turned back to Kali as the woman spoke again. It was all Faye could do to control her expressions as the woman all but fucked him with her eyes. Just like the bitch in the red dress had. Faye knew Fane was used to it, that it didn’t faze him. But that didn’t mean she had to like it. Even if she had to tolerate and ignore it.
Kali’s expression changed once more, her ruby red mouth pulling sideways into a smirk. “Now that, Mr. Savin… is why I think I like you.” Her head turned marginally, and she gave a small nod to the tattooed woman who still stood in the corner. She moved off again to the other room, and Kali turned back to Fane. “But Bliss is worth a bit more than the usual. Takes time, after all.”
Faye hadn’t moved at all during the exchange. Only her eyes tracked back and forth between Fane and Kali, and once to the woman in the black dress. This woman sold Bliss? And Fane knew what it was? Had fucking prompted her for it even?
Christ…
Bliss was… it was outlawed for one. And that didn’t mean it was just illegal to have or use, but it was literally banned from the country. From the entirety of Great Britain. And most of Europe. Her mouth opened to ask Fane if he was serious, but the blonde came back with a simple black box and handed it to Kali. She set it on the table in front of Fane. The grin was still set on her face, though it turned slightly more calculating once the ball was once again in her court.
She opened the top of the box to reveal the contents: a row of small glass ampules containing liquid that ran the spectrum from black to clear. “Seven different kinds. I won’t insult you by going over what each one will do. But they’re yours. As are any future… refills. Though I do ask for at least a month’s notice, for quality’s sake.” Leaving the box open for Fane to investigate if he wished, she made a small humming sound as if she just remembered something. “Oh… and one more thing.” Her eyes slid to Faye for the briefest of moments before meeting Fane’s again. “I get you for the night, Mr. Savin.”
Okay… that was enough of that.
Faye reached out and slapped the box top closed. “We’re done here,” she said pointedly to Kali. “Take the offer, or we’re leaving, And you’re leaving with us. In cuffs.”
Fane’s expression said nothing, he hadn’t actually asked after it for any other reason than to see whether or not she could stock it but also to see what quality of business she ran. Though now it was a ball in the playing court Fane would be lying to say he wasn’t intrigued in possibly sampling the wares. It was a speciality brew that took a very long time to brew correctly, he knew this, and there had been murders in attempt to get a hold of the substance due to the almost euphoric high it brought about the best of the best and a special brand of magic in itself. There was a reason it was banned this side of the ocean in almost every country and state there was.
So when the lid of the box was opened, and Fane was given a show of the contents his head tilted a fraction and he was seriously contemplating the deal they had set out. Silence in return for the top stuff on the market with free refills? Not a very difficult deal to agree to. Unfortunately, the terms shifted a moment later and his lips happened to thin slightly. He had no chance to say anything before Faye was moving, the box being slammed shut and he tried not to sigh as Faye decided there and then to shut down the deal. Instead, Fane shifted slightly moving to press a hand to her elbow to get her attention. He waited until she looked at him and his eyes held a silent urge.
Trust me. I’m loyal to you . I’ll find a way around this.
After all, one thing these people didn’t know was that he was a rather powerful legilimens which put their minds in his hands if he tried and worked hard enough. “I’ll agree, but only if I’m allowed my wand back… And no lurkers,” he said casting a look to the blonde also referring to the security that he had no doubt milled the place. “I’m not here to put on a show.”
His touch to her elbow secured her attention on him again. Their eyes met, and like so often happened, a silent conversation passed between them.
Her features flickered ever so slightly, and she released a small breath of air.
I know. I trust you. I don’t trust them. Or that. Her eyes flicked to the black box.
But soon enough, Faye consented, knowing that this was bigger than either of them. And her misplaced jealousy. A feeling which didn’t rear it’s head often between them. But when it did, it came in spades. So as Fane turned back to Kali, Faye shoved all those feeling back down where they belonged. She shut them off, compartmentalized them, and got the fuck on with it.
Kali had watched the silent exchange, but didn’t comment on it. Instead, she had Black Dress take the box away. When she came back she had another box: the one containing Faye and Fane’s wands.
“Agreed. Give the man his wand. And show Ms. Delacroy out. Our business is done.” Kali stood and gave a small dip of her head towards Faye. “Your partner will bring you what you need. Tomorrow.” She turned and walked toward the other room, clearly expecting Fane to follow once he received his wand and Faye was escorted out.
The blonde held out the box for Fane to take his, but snapped it closed when Faye reached for her own. “Ah ah…” she said, giving Faye - who was a good deal shorter than her - a look down her nose. “Say please…”
Faye huffed, eyes narrowing at the taller woman briefly. Her fist tightened at her side, and she looked down, seeming to contemplate doing what she was told. But the thing was… Faye hated being told what to do.
But she did love it when people underestimated her. Especially based on her size. So the look of shock on the blonde’s face as she was suddenly on her back on the floor, Faye’s knee in her solarplexus after she’d swept the other woman’s feet out from under her, was almost worth the wait. And when her pretty little nose crunched beneath Faye’s fist half a second later, it was even more satisfying. Blood poured down the woman’s face, and she yowled in pain, sounding very much like her animagus form.
Faye pushed up, shoving her fallen hair out of her face, and retrieved her wand from the fallen box, gripping it tightly in a bloody fist.
“Please.”
After that, she gave Fane one last and very pointed look, and turned for the door.
Jealousy did not suit her. Not one damn bit.
If they were going to get what they needed out of this night and get a lead on their case that had all but dried up, then Faye really had no choice in the matter. If she truly did trust him as she said so often she did then this was something she was going to have to have faith in him with. He knew her feelings on some of his rather more questionable vices but if this was an opportunity to help her with the case, and as a consequence possibly get a reward of his own then he was willing to sacrifice some of his time and magic for the cause.
Yes, and if we’re going to get anything you’re going to have to keep faith with me . I promise I’ll be safe.
But just as Fane knew would happen, because none of them really had any real choice in this particular matter Kali stood leaving them both and Fane eventually rose also. He didn’t miss the emphasis on tomorrow. Unfortunately for her if she thought this to be a whole night debacle she’d be sorely disappointed just as she would be sorely disappointed that Fane had absolutely no intent to do as she wished. Once he had his wand, slipping it back into the pocket of his sleeve he stepped to one side observing until he was sure Faye was on her way out though there was no hiding the smirk that graced his lips at the events that unfolded next. Faye really did hate being told what to do.
At least by anyone that wasn’t him. But that was beside the point. A point that was made rather clear as the woman was on the floor with blood now gushing from her nose staining the material of her dress. Faye rose then and after one last look he gave her a fraction of a nod before turning to follow in the direction the businesswoman had gone.

The Hitman Bodyguard: Chapter 4
Read on Ao3
Bucky had obviously seen Stark Tower before; it was an iconic part of the New York City skyline, as easily recognizable as the Empire State Building. But seeing it while wandering around in its shadow was entirely different from parking in Tony’s private underground garage and taking the interminable elevator ride it took to get to the top, then seeing the city spread out before him like it was his personal back yard.
He allowed himself fifteen seconds to stare before he turned away, trying to seem blasé about it all.  “So where do all the others live?” Bucky asked casually, strolling around the common room.
“Others? You mean like Steve and the rest?”
“Yeah.” Specifically Steve, Bucky thought. “Do they stay here?”
“Sometimes,” Tony said with a distracted, one shoulder shrug. “Bruce was here for a while and Thor stays here when he’s…on the planet.  Steve has his own place in DC and God only knows about Clint and Natasha.”
Bucky’s shoulders eased when Tony said DC.  “Why are you moving out of the tower? It’s so…you,” he said, strolling back to poke Tony in the side.  “Stylish. Flashy. Practically screaming, ‘hey, I’m over here, try to kill me.’”
Tony stuck his tongue out.  “Too many possible collateral damage and civilian casualties.”
“Ah.”  Couldn’t really argue with that.  “When do they break ground for the new place?”
“Tomorrow.”  Tony had played a huge part in designing the new Avengers headquarters, so he planned to be in New York for the duration of the construction.  For his part, Bucky wasn’t super thrilled about being back in the city – too many memories and almost-memories – but he wasn’t prepared to break his contract and leave Tony because of it, especially if Steve stayed down in DC.  The tower was pretty fucking cool though. Being this high above the streets was a rush.
“Hey, Tony,” he said, turning away from the view.  “What’s for-”
Tony held up a finger, phone in his ear.  “Yeah, two large pepperoni for delivery, please.” He put his hand over the speaker and said, “We’re having pizza and we’re going to watch Zombieland.”
“Again?” Bucky made a face.
“No complaining,” Tony said.  “We made a deal. Plus, we are going to rewatch it until you realize the gift that Woody Harrelson is.”
The next evening, Bucky was flipping through the apparently unending channels on the TV when he realized he’d seen the same video playing on three different news stations.  So he paused, reading the headlines, and then rewound the footage.
“Tony,” he called out, stomach sinking.
“What’s up?” Tony answered from the kitchen.
\“You said Ste- Captain America works with SHIELD in DC, right?” Bucky said almost absently as he kept playing and rewinding the footage of the attack in DC, watching as a black SUV, apparently the SHIELD Director’s SUV, flipped over in a cloud of smoke and flames.
“Yeah, why?”   He heard Tony’s footsteps as he came into the living room, unable to drag his eyes away from the television.
He paused the TV on the one blurry shot of the perpetrator that the camera managed to catch.  It was a man, all in black, with goggles and a mask on. “You’ve gotta go to DC,” Bucky said urgently. “Right now. He is in danger.”
Tony went still, eyes going between the TV and Bucky, clearly trying to make the connection. “What? Why?”
Bucky pressed play and let Tony watch the clip he’d been watching. “Holy shit,” Tony said, eyes widening. “Nick. Did they say anything about-”
“Trust me,” he said. “Go. Right now, before it gets worse.”
“Yeah, ok. I’m going.”  Tony headed for the stairs down to his lab. “Are you coming?” He called out over his shoulder.  “You could take one of the cars-”
Bucky’s mouth twisted. “I can’t,” he said, turning and pacing away from the television.  As much as he wanted, needed, to be there to watch Tony’s back, this was Hydra. And Steve.  “Not this time. I…” Bucky trailed off to a stop. What could he say?  How could he explain?  Hey, Tony, I'm kinda but not really the person you think I am.
“It’s ok,” Tony was already saying soothingly.  He came back to squeeze Bucky’s shoulders. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t even have asked.  This isn’t your job. I’m going to go suit up and call Steve.”
Bucky nodded jerkily. “Be careful.” Despite Tony’s words, he still felt lower than dirt as he watched the Iron Man suit blazing south.  He rewatched the clip again, eyes lingering on the bright blond hair on the man in black, but in his mind he was in a cold, harshly-lit bunker, watching behind iron bars as this man and the other Winter Soldiers killed everyone they could reach.
(More after the break!)
For the next two days, Bucky was sick with worry, checking in with JARVIS every hour on the hour.  After the first six requests about Tony, JARVIS set up a running feed of Tony’s vitals that Bucky could see on any screen in the tower, though he rarely went much farther than his bedroom and the kitchen.  He wavered between obsessively watching the news and trying to distract himself with stupid movies, but not much worked.  Memories were coming fast and hard, making his hands shake and giving fresh terrors to his dreams.  At one point, Bucky woke up panicking from a nightmare that the attack in DC was a decoy and that Bucky was the true target, and for the next three hours he obsessively roamed the tower, convinced that Hydra was coming.  When he tried to eat, the sudden mental image of Steve in the chair, or Tony, made him throw up until there was only bile left, burning the back of his throat.
He would have liked to say that he almost changed his mind about going to DC, but the truth was, fear of both seeing Steve and memories of Hydra made it hard to even stay in New York.  Suddenly the city felt too small, and in the middle of the night LA didn’t seem far enough away; hell, suddenly even putting an ocean between himself and DC didn’t seem good enough.  But he stayed, hating himself a little more with every passing hour for being such a coward.
Then, on the third day, Tony called.
“Bucky,” was all Tony had to say, and Bucky’s stomach hit the floor.  He closed his eyes and pressed his forehead against the cool wall, trying not to throw up again. “I hate to ask but…we need your help.”  When Bucky didn’t respond immediately, Tony hurried on.  “There are more of these freakish Hydra super soldiers than we thought there would be and…” Bucky’s hand was tight on the phone as he heard Tony’s long exhale. “I know this isn’t want you’re getting paid to do-”
“It’s not about the money,” Bucky said harshly.  He took a ragged breath and ran his hand over his mouth. Over the past two days, the thought had occurred to him that there was a third choice, besides running from his past or facing Steve and having all of his secrets bared to the ugly light of day. Unfortunately, it was one that he was almost as afraid of as the others.  He exhaled long and low, clenching his flesh hand into a fist to make it stop shaking.  “Okay. I’ll help.” His voice was rough, so he cleared his throat.  “Just…tell me where to meet you.”
When he got off the phone, he walked reluctantly to the one bag he always carried with him but never unpacked; buried at the bottom of a closet, out of sight but rarely far from his mind.   He pulled it out and unzipped it, dread making his limbs heavy.
At the bottom of the bag, under layers of stiff, reinforced tactical pants and bullet-proof vests, was a mask and ballistic goggles.
                                                       ***
Hours later, he found Tony gathered with others at the edge of the Potomac, looking over the water at SHIELD headquarters.  He approached silently, studying them; Tony was in a suit, helmet retracted, and Steve was easily recognizable at his side.  Beside Steve, looking tiny next to him in his tactical suit, was a redhead whose profile stirred uneasy memories.  The final man, dark-skinned with short hair and a strange bulky backpack, he didn’t know at all.
He came up next to Tony; JARVIS must have warned him of his approach because he didn’t look surprised.  “You made it,” Tony said, sounding relieved. Bucky gave a curt nod as Tony’s eyes traveled over him, and Bucky knew what he saw: the dark ballistic goggles and mask obscured his features, and he was in black from head to toe, metal arm gleaming.  Wearing this again, the mask and the gear, felt right, felt like coming home, and made Bucky want to rip every piece of it off and shower until his skin bled.
“Who is this?” Steve asked warily as everyone turned to look at him.  Bucky refused to look at him, afraid he’d lose his fragile self-control.  He kept his eyes on Tony, trying to remind himself why he was here when he’d rather be anywhere else.
“This is-” Bucky made a sharp warning gesture. “A free agent,” Tony finished.  “He’s going to help us out with this Hydra problem, and then he’ll be going on his way.”
“I gotta say, this guy looks a lot like the guys we’re fighting,” the black guy said, eyeing Bucky’s mask and goggles.  Bucky gave him points for perception. “Who is he again?”
“Don’t worry about it,” Tony said.  “I’m vouching for him.”
Steve looked like he wanted to argue, but after a moment he shook his head and visibly decided not to.  “If you say so, Tony.  What do we call him?”
“Rambo will be fine,” Tony said when Bucky didn’t volunteer anything.  He was too busy studying the red-head, who was studying him in turn, something sharp and suspicious in her brown eyes.
“Alright, everyone,” Steve said.  “Sam, you’re with me. Tony, guess you’ve got Rambo here.  Natasha-”
“On it,” she said, giving Steve a salute and finally looking away from Bucky.  “See you on the flip side, boys,” she said over her shoulder as she sauntered away.
The new guy, Sam, apparently, pushed a button on his shoulder and mechanical wings unfolded from his backpack, whirring as an engine in the center came to life.  He took Steve’s hand and then they were skimming across the river to the Triskelion, coming in low to avoid the building’s anti-aircraft defenses.
“They’re going to try to keep the helicarriers from launching,” Tony explained, shading his face from the sun as he watched them go.  “But if they fail, that’s where we come in.”
Bucky nodded curtly, wishing that he could just punch something already.  His skin was crawling in this gear; when he’d escaped from Hydra, he swore to himself that he’d never wear it again.  He only kept it to remind himself how far he’d come, but here he was, feeling like he was walking to his own execution.  He itched to pace but he knew if he started walking he may very well start walking back to LA, so he forced himself to stay still.
“Are you ok?”
He turned his head to see Tony watching him with concern. He wanted to say I’m fine, but he didn’t think he could force himself to tell a lie that big. There was a knot in his chest, fear and dread and panic, so big that he couldn’t speak around it, so he just shrugged.  Even though they were just standing here, he felt like everything was balanced on a knife’s edge and the tension made him want to scream.
“Seriously, Bucky, are you ok?” Tony had his hands on Bucky’s shoulders now, the armor making them heavy.
“I just want to finish this,” Bucky managed to say.  “Let's get it over with.”

excerpt from chapter 1 of silence falls
So i’m editing Silence Falls and that, of course, comes with much re-writing. Have an excerpt from the newest version of chapter 1! Tell me what you think! If you’ve read the original version, you should tell me which one you like better.
In the depths of the forest, deep beyond human eyes and ears, something stirs. A dark something, full of animalistic rage. Unseeing eyes and toothy maw buzz with flies and the stench of decay.
Slowly, it climbs to its feet. It’s awake, and it’s hungry.
-o-
Kari
Kari stares up at the thing in front of her. It looks a bit like a house, built by someone who had, perhaps, never actually seen one. At once it is too small, too tall, and leaning a bit to one side. There are turrets where there should be none, oddly placed windows, and a wraparound porch that seems to rise and fall as it pleases.
It doesn’t look terribly sturdy, and Kari gets the vague feeling that the house shouldn’t really be possible at all.
From behind her, a deep voice says, “Ah, the ancestral home.”
Kari grins, and turns back to her brother. He’s leaning against her old mustard yellow car with his head tilted back, looking up at the house.
“What do you think?”
He shakes his head. “Looks like it’s about to collapse.”
“But…”
“But what?”
Kari raises her arms to the sky. “But it’s ours.”
Liam raises an eyebrow. “Technically it’s yours.”
“If you live here, it’s yours too.”
“I’m not sure I want it.”
“Where else are you going to go?”
Liam thinks, then sighs. “Yeah, fair.”
Kari pulls the house keys out of her pocket with a flourish. They still have the little yellow tag from where she got them at the lawyer's office. She says, “Let’s look inside.”
Kari’s first impression is dust. Lots of dust, on every surface and thickening the air. It makes sense, but she begins to feel, finally, the enormity of what she’s done. The last few weeks have been something of a whirlwind. She’s been moving purely on instinct and fumes and now she’s run out of both. Now she’s just standing in this empty old house thousands of miles from home, with no furniture, no job, and no idea what to do next.
“Shit.” She says.
Liam waves dust out from in front of his face. He sneezes once. He says, “Goddamn.”
“What did I get us into?”
Liam gives her a sharp look. “You’re not freaking out, are you? That’s my job.”
Kari takes a deep breath which, given the state of the air, leads to a prolonged coughing fit. When she’s done, though, she draws herself up. “It’ll be fine. We just need to open some windows, get some fans on. Maybe there’s a shop vac here somewhere.”
Liam shakes his head, but dutifully follows her further into the house. The wood-paneled walls give a strange sense of stepping backward in time. It’s so strong that Kari imagines she can almost feel it slow and reverse, then start back up again.
The little round living room is shaped almost like a bubble, with windows that seem almost convex but can’t be, really. The dust has taken quite a liking to the shag carpeting, it puffs up in plumes with every step they take.
Kari struggles to open the ancient windows while Liam paces around the room, peering at the artwork on the walls.
“Can we take these down? They’re kinda creepy.”
Kari, having only gotten one window halfway up, huffs, “I don’t know, Liam. Can you help me, please?”
Liam bobs in front of the old photograph. “I feel like it’s, like, watching me. Like it’s eyes are following me, you know? Scooby-doo style.”
“Liam!”
“Yeah, i’m coming.”
“Help me with this- no, you get that side. Alright, on three.”
Fully opening the window has a strange affect on the house. Everything seems instantly lighter, and the air begins to move. The dust drifts towards this portal to the outside world and, with it, Kari’s worries begin to fade. They can do this, she’s certain. It’s only a house, after all.
“What in the hell is that?” Liam’s voice trips down the steep stairs.
Kari is standing between the two rooms on the second floor, having had time to explore neither of them. Liam has already ascended to the top, and now she follows quickly.
The top floor is only one small room, round as can be with a high pointed ceiling. The floor is old wood, with four light squares where bed posts once were. Next to each one of these four squares is a metal plate with a sturdy ring attached. Liam gestures to them.
“What is that?”
“Looks like… I don’t know. Secures something to the floor, I guess.”
“Yeah thanks for that genius insight, Sherlock.”
“How should I know, Liam?”
Liam shrugs and huffs. “Creeps me out. Does the other room have this?”
“I don’t know. I didn’t get a chance to check before you decided to have a fit up here.”
“Let’s go see.”
The bedroom on the second floor has the same strange metal rings in the floor, albeit further apart to accommodate for the bigger bed.
“I don’t like it.” Says Liam.
“You know, it’s a really old house. I bet we’ll find other stuff you’ll like even less.”
“You’re on.”
They do, in fact, find something that Liam likes even less.
“That is the ugliest thing i’ve ever seen in my life.” Says Liam.
“It’s… not great.”
“I don’t- I don’t even know how to describe what emotion i’m feeling. Is it disgust? Anger?”
“That’s a little harsh.”
“How. How does someone look at a blank kitchen wall and think ‘You know what would be great here? A mural of a gigantic chicken.’?”
“I know it must have been one of our ancestors, but I really thought our family had better taste than this.”
“Sorry, did we see different versions of the living room?”
“Alright, good point.”
“I’m- I’m not gonna look at this every day, Kari. I can’t do it. I’m just not strong enough, emotionally.” Liam presses his hand to his forehead, “I feel lightheaded already.”
“Oh stop.”
“But seriously, can we do something about it? It’s… really ugly.”
Kari looks around the room, chewing thoughtfully on the inside of her cheek. “We could just go ahead and re-paint? I’m not really digging this off-white anyway.”
“We could do blue. No, lavender. Wait no, sage green.”
“Final answer?”
“Sage green, final answer.”
They sleep on the living room floor. They have blankets and pillows and not much else. Everything that could not fit into Kari’s little mustard yellow car was unceremoniously abandoned along with their old lives in California.
The car itself should have been left alongside their furniture on the curb in front of Kari’s apartment, but she’d been unable to let go. The Mustard Contraption was the first car she ever bought on her own; she knows how to change its oil, how fast she can go before it starts to sputter, and if she turns the radio up loud enough the car sings along. She’d been able to leave people, books and chairs and her bed, her waffle iron, and most of her dishes, but the car was just too much.
Liam hadn’t seemed to mind the drive in the Mustard Contraption anyway, he has almost as many memories in it as she does. She let him borrow it when he moved from their parents’ house to a college dorm, he’s taken it on dates, she’s picked him up from house parties, and there have been more than a couple 2 a.m. runs to get tacos and let him cry about stress and feelings. They drove home together from the funeral in that car. No, the car was much too important to leave, even if turning on the heat makes everything smell like popcorn.
Now, as she looks across the room at her brother, Kari wonders once again if this was the right decision. With nothing left to occupy her mind, doubts begin to creep up out of the shadows. Their whole lives are across the country, jobs and school, family and friends. All the security of knowing a place, of belonging to it and having it belong to you, that’s all gone. Should she have dragged Liam into this? Should she have convinced her brother to move thousands of miles away with her on little more than a whim?
Maybe, maybe not. But what’s done is done, and she remembers vividly the state he was in mere weeks before their departure. She couldn’t have left him like that, and she couldn’t have stayed. At least here he seems a little more like his old self, for now at least.
There is no food in the house. Well, there is a package of sliced ham and a jar of peanut butter from where they made sandwiches during the trip, but the bread is long gone. Kari stuffs a couple slices of ham into her mouth and chews thoughtfully as she walks back into the living room.
“Time to get up.” She says to the pile of blankets on the living room floor.
“No.” Says the pile, and the top of a head of wiry hair ducks further under a blanket.
“I’m hungry, let’s go get something to eat.”
“But i’m tired.” The pile whines.
“Come on, we’ll find someplace with waffles.”
There is silence, and then Liam pokes his head out from under the blankets, squinting and frowning and looking generally like elderly frog. “It’s cold.” He accuses.
“I’ll get you a coat.”
“Fine.” Says Liam. The pile of blankets moves, it grows, it rises and rises until it slips off Liam’s back and onto the floor with a muted thump and he stands there shivering pathetically until Kari goes to get him a coat.
It’s clear that the Walsh siblings are outsiders. Their complexions stand out, sure, but it’s more the fact that they each have on several more layers than the other warmest dressed person that they’ve seen on the main street of Silence. There are so many things to do, people to talk to and papers to sign, things for Kari to get put in her name. There will be more people to call when they get home, more things to sort out, and it’s beginning to wear her down. She slumps down onto a bench and lets her eyes slip closed for a moment.
“This was your idea, you know.” Says Liam, sitting down beside her.
“I know.” Kari sighs, “I just need a minute. Paperwork makes my head hurt.”
“Don’t fall asleep, you’ll freeze to death.”
“Honestly, it’s not that cold.”
Liam shoots her an incredulous look. “There’s a library over there.” He jabs his thumb down the road, “I’m gonna go check it out. Call me if you need me, cool?”
“Cool. I might check out, uh, whatever this place is.” Kari nods to the building across the road to a quaint looking storefront. There’s not much in the way of decorations, but a wooden sign above the door names it, “Autumn Leaf”.
Liam gives a halfhearted shrug and shoulders off to heed the call of books. It’s several minutes before Kari can convince herself to get up off of the bench and set off across the street, but as soon as she does her curiosity feels more like compulsion. She feels pulled, almost, by the little wooden sign. A bell above the door chimes as it shuts behind her. There is an overwhelming feeling of having stepped into a quiet wood, surrounded by trees and unseen by the outside world. It’s almost a physical sensation. Time closes its eyes for a moment.
Kari lets out a breath she didn’t know she was holding.
The shop is small, but bigger than it looked on the outside. Rows of shelves are laden with crystals and decks of tarot cards and bottles of herbs that Kari has never heard of before. One full wall is covered with books.
There is a counter along the wall opposite the books, covered with so many flowers and vines and tall leafed plants that Kari does not automatically see the girl behind it. Tall, with astonishingly silver hair and an odd shine to her skin. The girl does not seem to notice Kari.
She’s not normally for this sort of thing, this mystic stuff, yet she finds herself entranced. She runs her fingers along the edges of the shelves, over bundles of sage and strings of bright beads.
“Hello,” Says a voice, very close.
Kari starts, knocking a jar of rose hips off the shelf. She’s sure it’s going to shatter, but it’s caught at the last moment by a long-fingered hand.
“I’m so sorry,” It’s a voice that pulls warbling brooks to the forefront of Kari’s mind, chirping birds and singing wind, “I didn’t mean to scare you.”
“No I- I wasn't paying any attention, i’m sorry. I got a little… lost.”
The woman holding the bottle rose hips smiles. Her eyes crinkle, her nose scrunches. “That happens here. Time moves a little slower.”
“I feel it.” Kari says, surprising herself, “It feels so peaceful.”
The store feels peaceful. The woman feels peaceful. She has kind eyes. She also has a very pleasant face, with skin as dark as Kari’s own, covered with a smattering of darker freckles. A voluminous mass of dark curls strains every which way. She looks like she belongs in a fairy tale.
“You haven't been here before.”
“No, i’m new in town.”
“Ah,” The woman tilts her head thoughtfully to the side, “I didn’t think i’d seen you around. Welcome to Silence. Welcome to Autumn Leaf. I’m Aimee.”
She extends her hand and Kari takes it, marveling at the firmness of the handshake. “Kari.” She introduces herself, “Walsh.”
Aimee’s hair perks up. “Walsh? As in-”
“Yeah, my great grandparents lived on the edge of town in that tall old house. They left it to me.”
“I was very sorry to hear of their passing. Your great-grandmother made the best lavender jam this side of the Turusa Layline.”
Kari rubs her thumb over her chin. “Never met ‘em, actually. They were kind of… estranged, from the rest of the family.”
“No! Why? Such lovely folk.”
“No one would say. Probably something stupid, honestly.”
“So then, where have you come from?”
“California. My brother and I just moved into the old house.”
Aimee looks at her curiously. She says, “Hmm.”
Kari feels a sudden surge of panic, sure that Aimee is going to ask why they moved, what happened, or why she dragged her brother with her across the country. She’s not ready to tell the story, and not to a stranger. Everything is too fresh.
To her surprise, Aimee doesn’t ask. Instead she says, “You look like you could use a cup of tea.”
At the back of the shop, through several rooms of indeterminate use, is a staircase that spirals up, up, up. Landings are placed strangely and at intervals that make little to no sense to Kari. On the third landing, they stop. A pale pink door opens inward.
Before she steps in, Kari looks up at the remaining stairs. She can’t see the top. It’s baffling, as this is not a tall building.
“How far up does this go?” She asks.
“All the way.” Says Aimee.
The room they’ve entered into is small. The walls, like the door, are a pale pink. There are bookshelves and a couch and a small counter with a sink, a portable heating element, and a kettle.
“This is my reading room.” Says Aimee, putting the kettle on right away.
“How is there a window?” Kari wanders over to the couch, where a large picture window sits behind. To her great surprise, it looks out over a garden, and not the main street.
“It’s just magic, dear, don’t worry yourself.”

So, I don't usually do these, because I always felt that shipping oc's with characters from other fan works was socially frowned upon, but since I've been seeing a few of these around, I'll give it a shot. My OC shipped with Auron.
Auron x Texas.
Yes, Auron's current partner in crime, rather he'd liked to admit it or not. Their meeting was rather... comedic. Auron didn't really notice his co worker until he accidentally rested the elbow of his sheifed arm on her head. She was very short, Her height being 4'8. He looked down to find a short, albino girl with wolf ears, and a tail. The whole package. Everything else looked human, she just had a few furry parts to her. Another key thing about her is that she always came off as the, "edgy" type, for her preference in black lipstick, and eyeliner. When he did get to know her, Auron has always found her annoyingly chipper, and overly friendly. The two attended a funeral together once, and she wouldn't stop smiling. Seriously. How does someone smile that much at a funeral??? Auron asked her about it.
Her response: Usually when people die, they don't want people to mourn over them, there for I choose not to mourn.
She wasn't entirely wrong, speaking from his own experiences, however it wasn't exactly the majority opinion, as Auron had to keep the wife of the dead man from trying to punch Tex in the face. Tex was almost always very clingy in the irritating and physical sense. She liked hugging a lot. She would hug Auron everytime she'd see him, and it usually would last 5 minutes before he would have to eventually pull her off. As time went on, and they grew closer, Auron started to notice that something was very wrong with Texas. Her extremely chipper personality was used to hide some dark, twisted thoughts, feelings, and even experiences. He came to this realization when he went to visit her one night, and she didn't answer her door. She lived in a dormitory like area, where there was the bedroom, and then a small room next to it that was a kitchen, and the bathroom being against the the smaller side of the rectangular kitchen. It was a nice little place for someone who likes living alone, but it had its downsides, like paper thin walls. You could hear the inhabitants, and they most likely can hear you as well. After a minute or two of waiting, just as he turned to leave, Auron was startled by the sound of soft, female sobbing, coming from Tex's dorm. He knew for a fact that if Tex was crying, which he had never actually seen her do, something was horribly wrong. He immediately opened the door to find a mess waiting for him. Texas sat their curled up in a ball, hands grabbing at her hair and pulling, make up smeared, wrists bleeding from self inflicted bites. Scattered around her were drawings of morbid, violent, and just horrid depictions, along with words scribbled over them along the lines of, "Worthless", "Dead", "No Future", "I'm nothing." A common sign of depression. If there was one thing Auron always knew about Tex is that she had a talent for art. She did this thing that she called a web comic. Auron, not really being kept up in technology, never really knowing what it was, let alone reading it, thought nothing of it, but he had seen her art, and it was phenomenal. It really opened his eyes to what she truly was when he saw that beauty and talent turned into something so ugly and self degrading. When Tex finally noticed him, her reaction was just to try to hide herself in the comfort of her knees. Auron began snooping around, and grabbing rags, then pried Tex's hands from her head, and wrapped her wrist.
Auron: Moron. What were you thinking???
Texas: ...
Auron pulled her into an embrace, still holding the rags to her wrist.
Auron: Would you like to talk about why you bit yourself up like this? Or the sketches for that matter?
Texas: I-I don't know what to do! My art! My comic! I- the deadline to get chapter 9 out is tomorrow, and I thought I could just push through it in a day with enough effort, but I don't even have content! I don't have a script! I have no story, no art for chapter 9! I'm a fuck up! I'm stupid! I'm nothing! I-... I'm so sorry... you shouldn't have had to see me like this...
Auron: It's fine. You're human after all. I expect you to have emotions, breaking points. As for your problems. Tex, the comic is just a for fun thing, right?
Texas: Yeah...
Auron: Great. Take some time off until you get over your writer's block. The timely fashion of updates doesn't matter, the quality does. If you can't produce anything good, then step back and take a break. It's obvious that it's affecting your mental health. This will make you hate what you do, so step back from it. Take a break.
Texas: You're right, I've just... meh.
Auron: Don't be afraid to show your emotions around me. It shows me that you are human.
That night, Auron didn't leave Tex's side, mainly out of fear for what she might do when she's alone. This opened a pathway for future sleep overs. Auron didn't share his bed with many, but with Tex, it had become routine, and he didn't mind. He actually liked the cuddles. A few months later, he receives a message from Tex. That night, she wasn't with him, she decided to stay at her place to do some cleaning.
Message received at 1:23 am:
Texas: Hey. Are you awake?
Auron: I wasn't until you woke me. -_-
Texas: Oh sorry. I forgot that your ringtone is up all the way usually... I'm sorry. XD
Auron: This better be important if it warrants you texting me at one in the morning...
Texas:...
Auron: It's not that important, is it?
Texas: ... No comment...
Auron: Tex...
Texas: I'll leave you alone then.
Auron: Why do you do this!? Spit it out! I'm already awake!
Texas: Are you sure? It can wait until tomorrow.
Auron: Tex. Spit. It. Out...
Texas: I can't! You're making me nervous!XI
Auron: Why would you be nervous?
Texas: Because it's kinda personal...
Auron: Okay. Pretend I'm not here. Say what you have to say.
Texas: ... that is so unaffective when I'm staring directly at that message...
Auron: Point taken. Just tell me.
Texas: Okaaaaay! ...
The icon at the bottom that says that Tex is typing stays that way for 5 minutes.
Auron: So?
Texas: Okay. Here goes nothing. And when I say that, I mean here goes everything I could possibly hold dear in my life. XD
Auron: Are you going to say what I think you're going to say?
Texas: I would really really really REALLY like to punch you in the face!
Auron: Okay, that's not where I thought you were going with this.
Texas: With my face, gently... I Love you! You are amazing, and wise, and sweet, even when you hide it under your protective layers! I simply love you. End of story. And I was wondering if you would allow me to take you out to dinner! I'm going to go cry now, because I feel like I'm dying XD
Auron: I stand corrected...
Auron: O//_//O...
Auron: No.
Texas: No?
Auron: No.
Texas: Okay then... What? No reason why? Like I'm cool with it, if you don't like me like that, but still. At least give me a reason...
Auron: Okay. I'll tell you exactly why. Yeah. I like you. I think you're cute. However, I don't appreciate you waking me up at 1 in the morning to text me with a confession. You want a relationship? Fine, but take initiative and tell me to my face. Quit being a coward. -_-
Texas: Ouch. My feel goods. Anyways, I guess I'll talk to you tomorrow man. Sorry about this...
Auron: It's fine :) Sleep well, Tex.
Texas: You too bro <3
After Auron and Tex finish messaging each other, Auron goes back to sleep. The next day is pretty amusing. Auron waits for his partner. Half expecting she hopes to forget about the previous night. Auron hears running behind him, and turns to find Tex in a suit and tie running up to hi., screaming, "I love you, you sexy, sexy son of a gun!" She knocks his feet out from under him, and steals a very, very passionate kiss, but soon afterwards, causing Auron and Tex both to fall over to the ground. Because her tiny frame is too much for his bigger, heavier frame. Luckily Texas's arm was under Auron's head when they fell, so no brain damage was caused to the older male. Texas turns to Auron, half expected to be heated, and she wasn't wrong, just heated in a different sense. Auron's face was bright red, slight tears to his eyes, he bursts out laughing, black lipstick smeared on his lips.
Texas: What? You told me to take initiative!
His laughter fades to a light chuckle, and then he stops.
Auron: Wow. That was... cheesy.
Texas: Also clearly failed...
Auron: (Still catching his breath.) No it didn't.
Texas: So it actually worked!?!? YAY!
Auron: Just don't do that again. You took us both out in the process.
Auron pulls Tex into his lap, and the two share a proper kiss.
Auron: See. That in of it's self is enough for me.
Texas: Yeah, but it wouldn't be a confession from me if it wasn't stupidly cheesy and didn't make you smile.
Auron: It's missing something though.
Texas: And that is?
Auron: The amazing pick up line from last night.
Texas: Ah yes, you have good taste, my kind, gentle sir. I would really.
Auron: Yes?
Texas: Really.
Auron: Go on.
Texas: Really.
Auron:...
Texas: Really!
Auron: Hopefully this is the last, "Really."
Texas: Like to punch you in the face. With my face gently, romantically, and in other places besides your face.
Auron: Okay. Okay. Calm down. We haven't even had dinner yet...
Texas: Exactly. Dinner.
Auron is very flustered at his now girlfriend's sense of humor. Safe to say, they had a very romantic evening together. ;3
This is my contribution to OC x Fan work Characters. Hope you enjoyed!
