“You’ve gotta be kidding me!”

Kunikida’s voice sounds out from the kitchen, quickly followed by the faint sounds of Atsushi mumbling. Dazai meets Ranpo’s gaze with a smirk that’s quickly returned. 

“Boys,” Yosano says, lounging on the couch. “Care to explain what that’s all about?” 

Neither responds, though in their defence, there wasn’t exactly a chance to. Before anyone can get another word in, Kunikida bursts from the kitchen, dragging Atsushi by one hand, and a cat by the other. Yosano barely contains her giggles as she realizes he’s holding them both by the scruff of their necks.

“Did any of you know about this?” Kunikida demands, glaring around the room. 

Dazai speaks up first, mischief lighting up his face. “Yes, of course I did. We brought Atsushi on, what, a few weeks ago? Did you really not notice, Kunikida-kun?” 

The sheer violence that flashes through Kunikida’s eyes suggests that, had he not been carrying two strays, someone might have died today. Instead he settles for a deeply irritated sigh, collecting himself before he speaks again. 

“I meant the kitten. Ranpo-san? You of all people must understand why we can’t allow this.” 

Ranpo leans back in his chair, eyes still carefully concealed. With a balanced tone, he gestures to Atsushi. “We kept that one. Why not this one too?”

Kunikida’s mouth drops open, his glasses starting to fall down his nose. “Surely you remember what today is, right? And why we absolutely, unconditionally, must not let-”

“Kunikida,” A deep voice sounds out from the door, all eyes turning to greet it. “What are you holding?” 

Dazai nearly suffocates as he attempts to smother his laughter at the look that crosses Kunikida’s face. Any colour that he might have had is replaced by a sheen of sweat over his now pale skin. 

“P- president I… I didn’t… it’s not what it looks like!” 

Fukuzawa simply blinks, casting his dark gaze from Atsushi, to the kitten, and back again. “So you didn’t find Atsushi bringing a kitten into the agency?” The firmness to his voice leaves the words sounding harsh, but from the back Ranpo giggles, easily seeing the humour in his tone. 

As Kunikida attempts to find a sentence that fits the situation, Atsushi speaks up from his position hanging just off the floor. “I’m sorry sir, it was just sitting out in the alley, and… and it looked so sad… I couldn’t just leave it there! I promise it won’t stay here long, m- maybe I’ll find it a home, or bring it to a shelter, or-”

“Nonsense,” Fukuzawa interrupts, letting his gaze soften a little at the wince Atsushi lets slide across his form. “The kitten will remain here, in your care.”  

“B- but president, sir, aren’t… aren’t you-” Kunikida begins, cutting himself off as Fukuzawa shooks him a look. Normally that look would be enough to silence him, however the iridescent sheen under his eyes offsets the harsh quality. 

A moment of silence passes, no one daring to interrupt the non-verbal conversation taking place between the two. Finally the argument seems to come to a quick end as Fukuzawa spins on his heel, ducking into his arm. 

“yRRSHh’oo-! yyiHHShhuh-! hh’RSHhuh-!” 

Kunikida immediately takes a few steps back, Atsushi dragging along with him, too surprised to resist. Yosano and Dazai offer simultaneous blessings, a western custom that the agency had begun using when Dazai had arrived, and Ranpo remained silent. 

Raising his head, there’s a slight tint to Fukuzawa’s cheeks. “Excuse me, I apol… hold on- rRSHh-! ERSHH-! ERSHHH’uuh-!” This time he only makes it into his hand, taking the tissue Dazai passes with a grateful nod, and turning away to clean up. 

“I’m so sorry sir, I… I had no idea!” Atsushi begins, trailing off into a series of rambles, some entirely unrelated to the current issue. He only manages to pull himself together when Kunikida switches out the collar grip for a firm smack. 

“It’s quite alright,” Fukuzawa responds, though his words are undercut by the tissue pressed to his face. “You had no way of knowing. Besides, just because I’m al… allergic- heH’RSHH-! ERSHH’uu-! Excuse me. Allergic to them, doesn’t mean I don’t still enjoy their company.” 

At this, Ranpo finally chimes in, laughter evident in his voice. “You should have seen him last year. There was a stray outside the building and he brought it home. He was a mess for a full week after that, called out ‘sick’ from the office.” 

All eyes turn back to Fukuzawa, Yosano giving him a playful glare. “You should have told us, I would have brought you antihistamines.” 

Fukuzawa gives a quick nod, eyes watering once more as he ducks back into his arm. “HRSHh’uh-! rRSH-! eh’RSHhoo-! I was… was- ARSHH’uh-! I was handling it myself. I keep a supply at home in case of…” He trails off, gesturing vaguely to the current situation.

Kunikida takes this opportunity to hand the kitten back to Atsushi, before turning to Yosano. “Can you go get some now for the president? Seeing as he didn’t know this was coming, I’m assuming he hasn’t taken anything.” 

A glance at Fukuzawa confirms the suspicion, and Yosano hurries off to fetch some meds. Atsushi retreats further back, still offering rambling apologies under his breath.

Fukuzawa silences him with a nod, tissue still tightly clutched to his nose. “I’ll be id mby office. Please sedd the docdor idn soodn.” 

“Of course, president-” Kunikida begins, pausing for- 

“HRSHHuh-! ERSHH’oo-!” 

Before finishing with a softer, “And bless you.”

you're fine i didn't have art to post so i didn't log in for a few days. uhhhhhh SwatchThoughts(tm):

they're the head butler ofc, but they're also queen's right-hand-man (gender neutral), her #1 bestie. they know everything about her, even about lancer before the events of ch2. they will literally do anything she asks and anything that will entertain her. it's tiring and they do complain sometimes but they enjoy their work, they know what a kind person she really is and that she's generally a good ruler, so they like to make her happy :)

weirdly competitive. nobody beats them in queen's monthly fruit-smashing competition and if you somehow do, they're a good sport but You Will Not Win Next Month. You Won't.

workaholic. oh god they wear so many hats in the mansion and they're so tired all the time, it's a miracle they get everything done

the color cafe is a regular butler cafe up front and a host club in the back. a handful of the birds, including swatch, can be paid (at quite high rates, swatch especially) to join you for drinks or sweets, flirt with you, cuddle - p much have a sweet and lightly romantic time. you would not believe how much money spamton dumped into the host club back in the day. their undisputed #1 customer even 20 years later

i generally view them as very asexual (demi specifically. + nonbinary) but they still love their host work! it's fun, they like making people happy and playing at being a romantic. and the sweets. they like the sweets just as much 🍰

very polite but short tempered 😔 they're quick to rough up people who don't follow the rules or who just personally annoy them/cause chaos, and they always win

they are the tallest swatchling, at 9 feet tall. Beast. good for carrying queen on their broad shoulders though!

their feathers, which are all slightly curly, have a slight iridescence to them that tint, along with accents on their outfit, in accordance to their mood or the paint they've been drinking . the default is pink

they adore their birds. they spawned each and every single one of them (the ones in their own flock that work for queen, anyway), they know all their names even when everyone's the same color and they remember what's going on in their lives. which is impressive when there's at least a couple hundred of them ;;;

as an art program they not only create things for lightners but also for queen ! they design a lot of things for her with her input, and with as quickly as they can draw things directly into the dark world they're always working on things for her, while dressing up their cafe for themed events in-between.

You mentioned how actually endearing and compelling Justine/Verity and John/Shaun's bond is, and BOY I so agree with you. I don't see people talk about them often sadly, but I genuinely think it's one of the strongest parts of the game and its narrative (in particular John's character development itself, despite that he appeared pretty late in the story, his involvement in the final sequence was really tasty. "If I kill someone for revenge I'll end hurting people dear to me, so it all will be pointless" hmmm if there isn't a certain samurai guy in another game who needed to learn this as well... but I digress)

Prosecutor's Gambit's parent/child theme is a pretty heavy handed topic, but it's not like there aren't some really amazing parts in this whole deal! I kinda don't even care about the mastermind as much as I care about John (and Kate Hall for this matter)

THEY ARE SO IMPORTANT TO ME!!!!!! I think much of their appeal comes from Justine's shift in personality after her connection to John is revealed (like her joking about smashing Edgeworth's evidence with her gavel), but also every interaction of theirs is so sweet and lovely.

I love how protective they both are of each other, and it makes all the more sense when you take into consideration that Justine wasn't much older than a child herself when she decided to adopt him. I love how they take care to show that, yes, to an extent, they both do look after each other, but Justine is still very much his mother, and she does her job well. The scenes where she's strict with him are so deeply important to me. You know she studied parenting books and did everything she could to prepare herself for this life. And yeah, John is such a great kid!! Genuinely one of the best parent-child relationships in the series to me.

I found it kind of funny how every other relationship in AAI2 involved a dad HAHA It was so much, but I get it. They really wanted to make sure you got what they were going for, and hey, most people seem to like it. I really liked Gregory's segments, which was a welcomed surprise. I didn't expect to love him as much as I did. And, yeah, the mastermind stuff did not work for me. It's probably because I didn't trust Simeon from the moment I met him (their heavy handedness worked against them in his case for me. They were pushing the idea of him being meek and unassuming too hard; I clocked it immediately as a red herring); but even the overall reveal and final confrontation were, like... eh. okay, then. HAHA The best parts of the game for me were those character interactions with the side character. Wasn't really paying attention to whatever was going on with Simeon and the president, but John, Justine, Sebastian, Katherine, Gregory, and Raymond? My actual world.

I'm playing bg3 again and trying out the honor mode (which as it turns out, might be a bad idea if you never beat the game in general, much less beat it in tactician mode) and I have been confronted with the fact that I absolutely have dnd race favoritism and it absolutely is contributing to my need for many many bg3 saves because I constantly think "hmmm I want to try playing as a deep gnome to see if I get special dialog with Barcus Wroot, the Iron hands, and the underdark" before picking Drow for the 4th time.

but i'm so sad that all of the changes pretty much cut out how purely childish and twelve the trio were in the book

i get it makes sense for annabeth and grover to figure out aunty em is medusa and the lotus casino is related to the lotus flowers but I'm so sad it meant sacrificing them being dumbass little kids
