oooo, i am so tempted to take one of my male/enby ocs from my own universe and turn them into an Ikevil Suitor OC because i think they'd be so beautiful and it would be fun--- i wish i had more references of how they look, but based off names and loose descriptions who would you all vote for (i've added their hair/eye color descriptions beneath the cut!)

these are my physical description notes for my story, but (they're also not human :^): •Lukas as short, messy, semi-wavy gray hair and striking gray eyes. His eyes shift to a glittering gold when he’s using his abilities. He is a Lilin (Demon). •Sylas has short, wavy dark violet hair and striking gray eyes. His eyes shift to a vibrant violet when he’s using his abilities. He is a Lilin (Demon). •Felix has very short platinum blonde hair and piercing ruby eyes. (He's the tallest character.) He is a Damphir.

•Kaen has long, straight black hair with a streak of gold and gold-orange eyes. He is a Kitsune (Fire). •Jayce (Jae-hyuk) has medium length, naturally black hair, dyed dark red, with golden eyes that look like the sun. He is a Solarian.

•Theodore has short, semi-messy, semi-straight golden blonde hair with celestial light blue eyes. He is a Seraphim (Angel).

•Sebastian has short, artfully messy, semi-straight golden blonde hair with celestial light blue eyes. His hair is parted the opposite of Theo's and he wears (faux) glasses. He is a Seraphim (Angel) •Orion has messy stark white hair with streaks of black mixed in. His eyes are dark blue and violet. He's a human (the only human in the dorm unless MC is human, too) sorcerer. He's 6'1" and lanky.

•Raine/Neri (Nerine) has shoulder length, curly hair dyed dark teal with ocean blue-green eyes. They are Merfolk.

Something that I've noticed ever since the Smiling Critters were introduced is that they can so easily be paired off into complementary duos, ones that are specifically designed to teach children fundamental lessons about life and self-care from two different angles. It's really interesting to me.

Like obviously you have Dogday and Catnap, with their sun/moon, dog/cat dichotomy, that stress how important it is to have fun and get things done during the day, but also that it's important to wind down, relax, and get a good night's sleep.

Bubba Bubbaphant and Craftycorn were introduced as a duo in the Smiling Critter show's intro, and their dichotomy is quite obvious. They are basically the right and left sides of the brain personified. Bubba is the left side of the brain, logical, analytical, focused on math and science. Craftycorn is the right side of the brain, creative and imaginative, focused on the arts and self-expression. They represent learning and academia in all its forms, the different ways people engage with and understand the world.

Hoppy Hopscotch and Kickin' Chicken form the sportsmanship duo. They are both portrayed as enjoying sports and the outdoors, but in different ways that highlight the different ways sports can be played and enjoyed and also what it entails to be successful at them. Hoppy Hopscotch may be loud and impatient, but she is also a team player, shown in her willingness to slow down her fast pace to make sure none of her friends are left behind. Kickin' Chicken, on the other hand, is laid-back, relaxed, and chill, the described "cool kid" of the group, but he's also described as having a ton of perseverance, more of a "slow and steady wins the race" type of person.

This leaves Bobby Bearhug and Picky Piggy as the last pair. Fittingly, these two are all about how to meet the fundamental needs of yourself and others. Bobby teaches children how to nourish themselves emotionally through showing and receiving care from others, while Picky teaches them how good food is important to nourish the body and soul. Depriving oneself of either of these things only makes oneself and therefore everyone around one miserable, because those fundamental needs are no longer being met.

Like fr, this is some pretty genius marketing right here. You have enough characters that every kid will have their favorite, but not so many that any would get lost in the shuffle, because the lessons each one of them would teach would be integral to the group as a whole. It really makes me that much sadder we saw basically nothing of the Smiling Critters during the game itself, because Mob Games struck gold with this concept, only to ultimately do nothing with it. :/

But I guess that's what fandom is for, eh?

I'm not the only one that thinks we might get to see Louis' family again soon, right?

Because yeah, the last time he saw Grace was at the cemetery and she was very clear that she was going to tell her kids and anyone else that he died too, but she didn't say she was going to stop talking about him altogether, and her kids were definitely old enough to remember, and he didn't hesitate to go into very specific detail about everything, some of which is extremely verifiable and stuff that Grace would've talked to family members about

It makes sense, right? Like most of the world believes that it's just fiction that was written as if it's fact, and they wouldn't look deeper into it because to them it's just a fun read or whatever

But like, imagine your sister texts you about this new book she'd been reading that she thinks you might like, so you decide to check it out, and at first nothing seems off but then you read about stuff that sounds vaguely familiar like you've heard it before, but you can't quite put your finger on why everything seems familiar, and then you get to the part about what happened to Paul, and the tap dancing at Grace's wedding, etc, stuff that you probably would've heard about before, and you go "hold on a goddamn minute, I remember grandma telling me this story about her mother" or directly from Grace herself depending on how old they are, idk I didn't research ages

like there's no way they wouldn't try to get into contact, right? I would for sure, I'd have so many questions

Polling the People

Okay, genuine question here, how do we feel about writers with a million WIPs? Like, I felt as a writer a lot of disgruntlement from the masses and have scaled back to the point that I just... rarely post? new? things?

As a reader, I don't care. I love finding a writer with a million stories, even if majority of them are only four chapters. I'm going to read it.

But like, how about you?? My readers et al.?? I would like to know if people would genuinely like me to just post a finished first two chapters of a fic, even if the next one doesn't come for another six or seven months or even longer??

(I know that I should just post whatever I want regardless, but I do also want to know how my readers feel since this is, afterall, a community)

BUT! i have this very specific concept in my mind: ponyboy who hates change, post-story.

... I'll explain it shortly. but er, first, here's a couple excepts from the fic I'm writing so far about it.

MONDAY: (excerpt cut from mid-day)

At lunch, it was just as bad. He was trying to read, hoping the words on paper would distract him from the words in his head.

Curly and his friends at the table were joking around and fighting. Curly glanced over at Ponyboy with a smirk, and smacked his book down playfully, and it made a thwip-slap sound as it fell. Ponyboy just stared, expression blank and sunken.

“What’s up, horseguy? Where’s your head at?” Curly teased, picking it back up and tossing it onto the table where it slid across to another friend, who shoved it Pony's way.

Ponyboy just shrugged. His thoughts were already flooding back up with words, that simple smack felt like the end of it all in that moment. He could feel his throat begin to close up, and his eyes warm with wetness.

It didn’t take long for the others to get distracted with each other again. Ponyboy didn't bother to pick the book back up.

SATURDAY: (excerpt from evening time.)

“You playing me, Sodapop?” Two-Bit snickered, a sharp glare making its way across the kitchen table to Soda, Steve and Pony right in the middle of it.

“Nope.” He popped his lips on the p, giving Two-Bit a sly grin back as he put down a card.

Ponyboy sat there with his cards in his hands. He had been playing, but it's not like he was really paying much attention to it. He was spaced out, out of the loop, doing his Ponyboy thing. Thinking.

Steve grumbled, kicking Two-Bit lightly and telling him to play a card. Two-Bit’s gaze never left Soda as he placed down a set of cards. The rest of the conversation buzzed out as Ponyboy went back to staring at his hand.

Something feels off. Maybe it's just because he's stuck in his head, but there's an obvious reason as to why he's been stuck in his head all week. He just can't place it.

that's all i wanna show off since it's the only parts i like so far. so far, all of these days are being placed of scenes that made his day feel the most terrible.

I'm mostly reflecting my own grief onto ponyboy in this, last year January i had one of the worst weeks that built up from excused emotions and overwhelming thoughts from things month before ... so, y'know, as someone who grieves, i thought I'd write that into Pony. Unfortunately.

the thing that makes him crack though is the funniest (not really), because it's what made me write the entire fic because I noticed myself thinking about it: His hair growth.

I cut my hair after my loss, and Pony's was still freshly bleached. I kind of wanted to work with how he'd react to his hair growing without his head. In a metaphorical sense, or however you put it :3

since i love same coin theory but get why folks dislike it, sometimes i muse on what makes a person and how souls and reincarnations are portrayed in media

sometimes souls are depicted as the entirety of what makes someone, sometimes its just an aspect that you can live without, and the amount of variation of how much a previous incarnation has an impact on the current self ranging from 'you're literally your past self' or the more horrifying 'your previous incarnation's memories can take over and sublimate the current self completely' to literally no impact

and then i think about how you see stan and ford change drastically over their single lifetime (eg just the sheer difference between their teen+adult+old man selves) and how amnesiac!stan is him at his core but everyone agreeing that it's not him at the same time

there's also the question of how reincarnation works in the gf universe in the first place, with the axolotl's domain being different from the 'reincarnation processing center', and how invoking + making a deal with the axolotl is described as a rare rule of the universe to 'live again', which just turned out to be reincarnation with conditions, but what exactly causes reincarnation/soulmates in a normal situation anyway.....

but in the end, the first thing my brain sprouts out when trying to explain my take on reincarnation is "kagome is not kikyo!!!!" despite only reading like 20 chapters of inuyasha and then stopping forever

I love Isran so much. I feel like "overly paranoid zealous vampire hunter" is not an archetype I would normally dislike, just not one that really compels me either, but there's something about Isran... I'll hear him say shit like "I knew this day would come... I knew, and no one believed..." and "try to avoid sleep if you can. sleep... is for the weak." but instead of seeing him as the human embodiment of the Pepe Silvia red string meme I'm like "omg he was right... this day really would come... he's so cool..." I'm literally hanging on every word this guy says he's so based. ready to kill 10,000 vampires after listening to this guy talk for 0.2 seconds.

Anyone else think it's weird that only like half the ghosts in bbc ghosts have spooky powers? Like okay I get it, and I know they don't need to have powers, and this isn't really a criticism, I just think it'd be... neat, y'know?

Honestly tbh it's one of the few things I almost prefer about the cbs version - I like how they expand the lore and give almost all the ghosts powers, it makes things interesting. Trevor and Julian can move things a bit, Thor and Robin can fiddle with the electricity, Mary smells like smoke, Flower gets you high, Fanny can be seen in photos, Isaac smells like dysentery, Alberta can be heard singing, Hetty's husband makes you horny, and Rebecca Wisocky has implied Hetty has a power different to the one the other ghosts thought she had (sending people to hell), so there seems to be an expectation that each ghost in the US version has a power/ability even though not all of em have been revealed yet (i.e. Sasappis, Pete, Crash, and ofc Hetty). And it's the expectation of powers that makes me think it'll be all of them having one as the show goes on. Only 3 of the core cast of 8 ghosts (not including Crash, he's even less relevant than my guy Humphrey) do not have CONFIRMED supernatural abilities. Compared to BBC Ghosts, it's definitely a bit different.

I'm reminded by what Nigel said about Isaac's power - that he still has an effect on the living world from beyond the grave. So it kinda saddens me more than anything that the other 5 ghosts don't have anything like that, yk?

I just-- wouldn't it be cool, and hear me out, if the other British ghosts could do something in that way? Like okay I think it was kingofthefrog's Ghost Swap AU (it's on ao3 and plot bunnies on tumblr) suggested that Kitty can be heard with a spirit box? That's genius. Kinda like Alberta's thing where her singing can be heard and Alexa hears her. I'm not a very creative person, but what if the other ghosts are walked through and it makes the living person feel a certain way or they have an unusual reaction? For example, Kitty walks through someone and they get the giggles and/or dance fever, or it's Thomas and they're suddenly depressed and/or romantic and/or Scottish, or it's Captain and they get butterflies in their stomach/they get all lovesick or their heart starts hammering and/or they're really anxious or get the sudden urge to listen to Kylie Minogue, or it's Humphrey and their neck hurts real bad and the Marseilleise is stuck in their head. Some of those I'm kinda joking but I just think it'd be neat, okay?

Let them have some nifty and/or stupid ghosts powers pls it would be so awesome it would be so cool etc etc

I get so much joy from hearing Scar talk about how Scarland is a roundabout way of him getting to do his dream job after his health kind of made it impossible to pursue the real-life version of it. Like, it's funny how things can end up working out differently than you expect like that.

You can just tell from the knowledge he has on how theme parks work (mainly Disney but still) and the behind the scenes stuff, plus how much thought and detail he puts into each element he builds, just how much he's enjoying making Scarland and idk it's just very cool to get to see
