I have like 300€ saved (no income) that I have to spend wisely on courses and learning and things like that, I believe my parents have decided they won't pay for anything, so I just have a roof under my head and that's about it, it's basically like being on my own except I live with a very toxic family that makes me want to die every day. I want to learn and do more before I can finally ask for a scholarship for my master's, but pretty much everything is over my budget. It's a losing game, I'm stuck, I can't get better, I can't get help, I can't leave.

Title: Lost and Found.
Pairing: Kiba Inuzuka x OC (Tsubasa Yuki)
Summary: Everyone knows that everything you lose will end up in your soulmates possesions. Some people go crazy trying to find their destined one with practically no information. Tsubasa was never interested in finding hers and there is a chance she would never be able to.
Warnings: Angst, mentions of death, hurt/comfort

   When the first symptoms of the family curse appeared, Tsubasa already knew she was doomed. The sickness was rare and there wasn’t much information about it in the Yuki clan library even before the genocide, while after it…  well, no information survived. To be honest she did not have much hope at the beginning when her ice-natured chakra just only started to act like a parasite, eating her body and breaking thin bones.
But her sensei had. Mei had always been protective of her pupils, acting like a big sister even after the trio passed the chunin exam. So, when the worst happened, she used all her resources in order to save one of them. Unfortunately, even Kirigakure medics famous for their body knowledge were unsuccessful. The only hope was the best medic alive, Tsunade-hime herself.
Tsubasa did not know how she convinced Tsunade to help or what she promised to her (probably rare Kiri herbs), but the sannin agreed to work on her case. She didn’t promise a cure. To the girl’s pleasure, unlike her sensei, the 5th hokage was rational and she stated right from the start that the chances of recovery were very low and more likely she would just extend the Yuki girl’s agony. It was hurtful, but honest. Tsubasa always respected honesty… and her sensei. She had no other choice, but to promise Mei that she will fight till the end even though she did not want to.
“Maybe you will find your soulmate there,”- said Mei before her departure.
Mei was one of those people who always wanted to find their soulmate, however that was not the reason why she said it. She appreciated different manifestations of love: between friends, parental, sisterly and etc. She also knew that Tsubasa was a pessimist and even the love of people who were close to her was not enough to restore her will to live. At least if she were deeply in love with her soulmate, Mei hoped that Tsubasa could finally find the strength to fight.
Soulmates were always a bone of contention between different social groups: commoners, nobility and shinobi. Especially the last one. Missions and loyalty towards the village must be a number one priority for a ninja. But with soulmates everything became much harder.
Still even the biggest soulmate deniers tried their best to ‘lose things’. Even though little was known about soulmates nature, over the years people were able to learn a couple of useful things:
1 - Every item you lose will end up in your soulmate’s possessions.
2 - You cannot send a letter or any kind of writing this way.
3 - You cannot just throw away a random thing in the air or leave it intentionally on a park bench. So, you must really lose the thing to make it reach your soulmate.
The world was never peaceful. Neither for commoners nor shinobi, so desire to help for so called “true one” was understandable. People tried to tie various useful items with slim strings to their clothes like meds and water. When it came to shinobi they usually tied small scrolls to their bags or jackets hoping that during fights the thread would be cut or ripped and the item lost. Such scrolls were usually filled with food, kunais or ninja pills. Supplies that suddenly appeared managed to save some shinobi on the verge of death more than once. So even soulmate deniers had an opinion that it was practical to help the soulmate and very rude to ignore it. Help for help, life for life, nothing more. Tsubasa was one such person.
Of course, every skilled shinobi could tell from which village the lost item appeared.
Yuki’s soulmate for example was from Konoha. Her teammate Hiroto recognized a specific plant in a found ninja pill. So, she had some chances to run into him during her stay.
But Tsubasa did not want a soulmate. She did not need some stranger. She wanted to stay in Kiri and spend her last days with people she loved with all her heart and soul. Hadn’t she suffered enough? It didn’t look like it.
This was how she ended up in Konoha; or rather in a spare room of Yamanaka-hime’s house. Although Tsunade made efforts, in Yuki’s opinion, she clearly did not have an intention to heal her, but to collect information about how the disease proceeds under various factors, in order to save other unfortunate ones… Tsubasa could tell it from her students. Tsunade put her under the care of somewhat inexperienced newbies, ones who could crawl into her head and feel the patient’s condition themselves. Tsubasa did not blame her for that. She would be happy if her death could help someone. The girl rather felt sorry for distracting Ino from her more important patients. The hime herself was cheerful and sunny person, but in moments that required professionalism she could turn cold and focused with the flick of a finger. “She would be a perfect clan leader one day,” Tsubasa thought.
To be honest Yamanaka’s jutsu was useful for more than just therapy. When they first met, Yuki just simply let Ino read her mind and see her past. It was much faster and easier, plus all the secret information she knew as an ANBU was sealed. In order to get it, they would have had to use much stronger and more traumatic jutsu (and of course torture). Moreover, she was going to die soon, so did it really matter how many people knew her story?
Though when Tsubasa saw the girl’s blank face after reading her mind, she felt guilty. The blonde stayed silent for a few seconds before giving her a hug. She did not need words to say that she will do her best.
    Ino was easy to befriend. She also was good at distracting from negative thoughts. Between her regular Tsunade checkups and preparations for missions (It was important to monitor the development of the disease in the field, and all missions would be related to information gathering about the Yuki clan) they were chatting, watching movies and sometimes working in the flower shop. Thanks to Tsubasa’s honey-coloured hair most people mistook her as a distant relative of Yamanaka, so no one asked questions.
Once they ended up talking about soulmates. It started when Ino found some spilled ink on her carpet one day. Hime did not know much about her soulmate except he was really… an artistic type. Through the years she collected various brushes, pencils, erasers and doodles. Once she even found a whole sketchbook (unfortunately half torn)! But there was one thing that made her upset. He never “lost” anything to help her like the majority did.
“Maybe he is from a strict ninja family or a specific ANBU team”, she said with a sad smile.
If Ino’s soulmate was artistic, Tsubasa’s was… quite “special”. Because only a “special” person would end up losing a 6-kilo bag of dog food. Even now, after seven years Tsubasa sometimes wondered ‘how?’.. It was not a pen or a trinket which could be easily left on an academy desk, but a giant bag of dog food! No, he was a good soulmate who was “losing” supplies for her (that once saved her teammate’s life) unlike Ino’s, but still… Even when the blonde heard about it, she could not believe it and then started to laugh hysterically. After such silly small talks Tsubasa felt like she wasn’t fully alone in this foreign village. It almost felt like she had found a friend.
Unlike the other forced teammate.
Every village had a system of having at least 3 people in a team. Moreover, Tsubasa was suffering from her disease and Ino concentrated on helping her. They needed another member.
Tsubasa did not like him from the start. He was loud, narcissistic, clingy and insolent. The kunoichi was easily fed up with his behaviour. She spat out what exactly she thought of him to his face before going back to the Yamanaka estate. Only when she was alone in her room, she understood all her stupidity. She shouldn’t have acted so idiotic and lose her cool. It was essential for a ninja. She also understood why he was chosen among all of the shinobi. As a member of the Inuzuka clan he had a ninken who was already big enough to carry a man. It would be useful in case she became unconscious due to the illness. But she could not help it. A lot of bad things were going on in her life. She felt useless and helpless since she was banned from using her ice chakra. Mei also banned her from using anything that would hide her emotions. She thought that Tsubasa finally needed to learn how to speak and deal with new people. Babysitting was not helpful, so she wanted to try something more radical. Tsubasa understood, but understanding wasn’t enough to cope with the stress. Now she was sitting in the corner of her room shivering. Usually, she would take her father’s mask – the only thing left after his death- and put the cold material close to her forehead thinking what he would say or do. She couldn’t do it any longer. Some of her belongings and a mask were lost during a powerful chakra release at the beginning of the disease.
A few minutes passed before she started to feel better. A sudden knock on the door took her out of thoughts. Tsubasa went to open it thinking it would be Ino. Unfortunately, it was him. The cause for today’s bad mood and their third teammate – Kiba Inuzuka himself. She sighed and looked at him through the door, hiding most of her body behind it. The young man in front of her hesitated and looked a little bit strange or uncertain.
”Listen, I came here to apologise.“
Tsubasa raised her brow. Surely she should have been the one to apologise?. Plus, the boy looked like someone who would rather make a bunch of excuses and snap back than accept he was wrong.
“Well, I shouldn’t have invaded your personal space in the first place.” He scratched the back of his head and looked away. Judging by his behavior, the girl started to understand what actually made his behavior change.“And …uhm, Ino told me about your case so…”
“Showed you,” said Yuki her guess as a statement.
”She d-did not show me much!”
”That’s okay. I don’t mind and Ino knows that.”
“Anyway, I want to start on a clean slate. Here, take it. It’s a half mask and a bottle of blue paint so you can customize it with your clan symbol.”
”Actually…”
“I know that you are not allowed to use anything to hide your emotions, but it is a half mask and I made the holes for eyes bigger so your emotions will be perfectly visible. This is not technically breaking the rule and you will definitely feel better due to your um… well, habit. Just enjoy it, okay? I have to go now, bye!
“W-wait! I cannot…”
But the boy already left, forcing the girl to accept.
After that, though the relationship between the trio smoothed out, it was far from perfect. Tsubasa preferred to act more as a solo player despite her health condition, Kiba was still too loud and tried to act like the leader he never was and Ino … Ino tried not to go crazy in this whole mess called a team. However, overall, their missions were rather calm. Perhaps the three of them needed time to get used to each other before they could accept the others’ faults and learn to compromise. The tension completely disappeared at rest time, when tired teenagers passed time by talking to each other. Often they talked about soulmates. Someone was consulting with others about what would be more useful to seal in a tie-down scroll, the other one was looking through a travel bag for new supplies (or accidentally dropped useless things), another was thinking about loud who their soulmate might be. On one of such days, all of a sudden Tsubasa discovered earrings in a sealed scroll. They were simple and consisted of three deep blue feathers each. The girl looked at them in surprise, not knowing how to react. But, on the contrary, Ino reacted too happily.
“These are so cute! And they match your eye color! Quite a nice present for a soulmate that has never seen you.”
“This must have been a mistake.”
“It was in a scroll. How could this be a mistake? Looks like your soulmate really wishes to meet you and…”
“I don’t need a soulmate, Ino! Like, I don’t believe in perfect matches made by spiritual forces or some sort. I never wanted to have him in the first place! I have a dream to achieve, a family in Kiri. No way if I survive, I will leave it all behind because of some questionable romance! That’s ridiculous!”
Ino sighed and Kiba remained silent. The conversation came to an end. But not the attention from Tsubasa’s soulmate or their mission.
One of those days, when all sorts of cute things and sweets instead of standard ammunition began to show up in Tsubasa’s scrolls more and more, their group stumbled upon really strong opponents. The longer the battle continued the more obvious it became that they were not going to win. Unless Tsubasa broke the rule and used her clan’s abilities. Mei’s order, both as sensei and as Mizukage, always stood above many moral principles for Yuki, but now it was a completely different case. Neither Ino nor Kiba with the sweetest and bravest Akamaru should have been involved in this from the very beginning. They were not supposed to die or risk their lives because of some terminally ill girl from another village and a questionable contract between their Kages. They must live, survive and Tsubasa made up her mind. At first, she managed to eliminate a couple of ninjas and slightly injure the rest using the element of surprise. She was incredibly lucky, because the disoriented opponents were much easier to finish off for Kiba and Ino. Tsubasa by this moment had already lost her eyesight from the tension and saw the battlefield only as a set of white and light gray colors. She lost her breath and her strength to stand upright. But it was nothing compared to the pain that washed over her seconds later.
     The kunoichi screamed in pain as she felt blood filling her mouth and an ice crust covering her internal organs. She fell on the cold dusty ground, heart-rendering screams leaving her lips with the blood pulsing her temples, ice needles tearing the muscles of her arms and legs. It seemed like nothing existed except for the all-consuming pain. Through the wall of never-ending white noise, she heard the sounds of Ino’s commands and Akamaru’s frightened barking. This was the last thing she felt before passing out.
Tsubasa woke up with a heavy head and pain all over her body. She listened to her senses before opening her eyes… and it would have been better not to listen to them. Someone brazenly pressed her close to their body and sniffed into the ear. When she opened her eyes the girl immediately screamed. In general, it was a completely normal reaction when you find yourself half-dressed in the arms of an equally half-dressed man. Of course, given that she was half-asleep, her only response was a stream of unpleasant curses and swearing. At first Kiba, who was still sleepy, was happy that the girl woke up, but soon joined the exchange of curses until a joyful, but terribly tired Ino ran up to them, immediately trying to interrupt the catfight and change the topic. Kiba waved his hand resentfully and went off in an unknown direction. Ino stayed with Tsubasa alone.
“Sit down and drink this.”
“Okay, but can I ask you a question first? What the hell happened here?”
”Your disease went out of control. I could barely suppress it. This time it was… too strong. Not like before. When I was finally able to improve your condition, you were still unconscious, your temperature dropped to terribly low levels, and some ice crystals did not disappear. We didn’t risk taking you back to the village in such poor condition. At first, we tried to wrap you up warm, but that didn’t help. Your clothes were quickly soaked by the cold coming from you and it only aggravated your condition. Then we decided that we would warm you one by one with the heat of our bodies. Well, Akamaru too.
Tsubasa howled in embarrassment and Ino sighed.
“Don’t worry. I think Kiba understands what the situation looked like for you. Or he will understand. He is a hot-head, you know, and he needs some time to calm down. But he will.”
”Still, that doesn’t change the fact that I snapped at him twice for literally nothing, especially the last time when I should have said ‘thank you for trying to save my dumb ass’. I feel terrible.”
The blonde girl patted her dejected friend on the shoulder and then said, “ Drink the medicine or, I swear to God, you will regret that you woke up.
The group’s return journey took place in silence. Despite the fact that Tsubasa apologized to Kiba and he accepted the apology, the kunoichi was still tormented by her conscience. She needed to apologize to him properly. Stealing a glance at the still visible ice crystals on her hand, a thought flashed through her: “While I can still do it.”
Night is definitely a wonderful and mysterious time of the day. Too bad that not everyone can enjoy its beauty, but there are also some who would be glad to miss it. For example, some unfortunate souls from the Inuzuka clan. It just so happened that a heightened sense of smell was not the only animal trait some clan members shared. Heightened hearing, too. In battle it was somewhat useful while in everyday life - irritating. During the day, in a mixture of noises, it did not cause much discomfort, but at night, when all the sounds disappeared, a can kicked by a drunk felt like a hit in the head. It is not surprising that such “lucky” clan members often suffered from insomnia and generally lived in the rhythm of night owls, which was very difficult for the shinobi world, where everyone was entirely early birds.
So was Kiba. However, tonight it felt different. His day was active and the sounds on the street did not disturb him, still he could not sleep. It seemed that the whole atmosphere of the house became more and more oppressive with every second spent inside, and the inner desire to walk through the village at night became stronger with every minute. He just wanted to go outside and run. He did not know where, but somewhere, where it was important for him to be now. In the end, when he accepted the fact that he obviously would not sleep today, the young man called his faithful dog and quietly left the house. The night was calm and fresh from the recent rain. Perhaps even too much, but it did not bother Kiba. He gladly wandered through old village streets, breathing in deeply the cold night air until he found himself near the playground. Or better to say, found someone.
Tsubasa sat on the swing all hunched up, almost motionless like a statue, and although this time her face wasn’t hidden by a mask, but her honey hair, Kiba knew that the girl was clearly not radiating joy.
“May I sit?,” he asked. Tsubasa didn’t even flinch.
“Yes.”
Kiba looked at the girl. When they first met, she was strong, cold and impenetrable. A true warrior. But now things were different. As a shinobi, he was not afraid to die on the battlefield, surrounded by dead and, possibly, even rotting bodies. But seeing a person fade like this, when they were unable to do anything about their state, when they burned out like a candle, turning with every second into a pale copy of their former self is what really scared him. At first, he didn’t care much what would happen to Yuki, but now, when her life glimmered on a candle stub, saving her was important. Either she will survive, and he will get rid of animal all-consuming fear, or her pale face, disfigured by illness, in the tongues of the funeral flame will haunt him till the end of his days.
Akamaru rested his head on Tsubasa’s lap. Still lost in her heavy thoughts, Yuki let her hands go of the swing chain and started to mechanically stroke and scratch the ninken behind the ears.
”Hey Tsu, I know that you are that type of shinobi who tries to follow the code perfectly. But we are not made of steel. You are not made of steel. You are feeling bad and tired. It’s unlikely that I will hear something that Ino did not show me or did not hear from you. Sharing pain as a shinobi is hard, but it’s even harder to keep your cool when you are on the verge of being broken by your own emotions. Even though I talk too much, anything you tell me tonight will stay here, I promise. So, tell me what’s eating you.
”You’re right. I am tired. I am weak, although I’ve tried to prove myself otherwise for my whole goddamn life. Even when I felt bad and thought that everything was lost, I clung to a few good things that I had. What does not kill makes us stronger, and the world, even drowning in war and blood, is still too beautiful to give up, especially the little things that everyone forgets. That’s what my father taught me. My path has never been covered with rose petals. Well.., for most people, actually. Still, I didn’t stop fighting for the people I love. Only when the clan curse showed itself… I was really scared. I felt completely helpless. And after the recent events… Fuck all my experience, knowledge and even more ranks. I am useless. I… I must accept the truth. I will die soon Kiba and I do not want to die here.”
Her previously smooth and still voice started to crack. Her shoulders shivered slightly.
“You, Ino and your friends are wonderful people and in general I like Konoha, but it will never be my home, and you will never replace my family. I hate to break promises, but I really don’t want to keep the one I gave to sensei and friends. I just want to give up and go back to Kiri. I miss them so much and want to see them one last time. Besides there is also one thing that bothers me…”
Mei was not that wrong when she said that Tsubasa might fall in love in Konoha. She actually did, but not with the soulmate destined by the stars. She fell in love with an eccentric, slightly arrogant and silly boy who may have not really known her, but still tried to help. Simply because he did not lose faith in her or their team, because he acted friendly with her and could cheer her up even in her darkest moments. For the fact that he could knock on the window at one in the morning and invite her into the forest to look at the fireflies. Just like that. It wasn’t like love at first sight, or a long courtship. With each passing day her feelings grew stronger washing over her like waves. Unfortunately, there were few “BUTs” that Tsubasa could not ignore:
She was from another village and even though there were many bad things in the hidden Mist, she was not going to betray it or move anywhere. She promised herself to help Sensei make the village a better place, and she was not going to give up on her dream either. Kiba was also too loyal to his family and friends. He would never leave them for some Kirigakure girl.
Moreover, Tsubasa felt guilty about her soulmate. Yes, she never saw him, but that did not stop him from taking care of her and obviously dreaming about their meeting. It would be wrong just not to care about his feelings.
Most importantly, that applied to both Kiba and the unknown “true one” - she was dying. She was a weak sick girl who had a month left to live at best. Of course, she could confess her feelings to the boy next to her right now, feel loved and die with a drop of happiness… But was it fair for Kiba who would have to live with this burden until the end of his days? Definitely not. She couldn’t do that to him. That’s why she would rather stay silent, burn out from her feelings, because at least she would not let him suffer.
“I just don’t know what to do… I feel lost.”
She lifted her head, blue feathers of her earnings blowing in the wind. Her face was emotionless and her body calm, yet uncontrollable tears were streaming down her face.
The boy took her freezing hand and pulled her into a hug. Tsubasa bit her lip, burying her face in his shoulder and soaking his jacket with tears.
”You lost only because you gave up right away as soon as you found out about your diagnosis! Stop thinking about the fucking disease! Focus on something else! Not on the loved ones, since it causes you so much pain. Focus on your dreams! On your soulmate!”
“Why are you so obsessed with the idea of soulmates?”
“Why are you so disgusted with the idea itself?”
She let his hand go and exhaled. There was no trace of her emotional outburst except for her bloodshot eyes. Tsubasa grabbed the swing chains, thinking for a second.
“I do not believe in fairy tales about gods, who loved each other and were separated, that blessed all mortal couples with a secret connection, in revenge to the rest of the pantheon. Why did everyone suddenly start to think that it was a love connection? What if that bond means a strong friendship? And how can finding lost things help my soulmate find me or specifically, my body? The only variant I see is where you tattoo the coordinates on your hand and lose it in battle. An ‘excellent’ plan! Moreover, where are the guarantees that soulmate couples will be happy? Give me one example.”
”Ino’s parents are soulmates.”
Both of them suddenly turned silent.
”As far as I know, Mrs. Yamanaka did not even know our language when she arrived here. She was from another country, with completely different customs, still she risked going into the unknown. And I don’t know any stronger couple.”
“The way you talk about it… Your parents aren’t soulmates either, are they?”
He nodded.
”Don’t get me wrong, I love my mother. In fact, my father left when I was one year old, so she and my sister raised me. But… My mother is a very difficult person. As far as I can remember, it was always important for her to be the first and she never cared about the feelings of others. This is good for a warrior, but not for a family member. She could easily say things that will hurt you, including the ones she said on purpose, as a joke in order to please her ego. When you tried to talk to her about this and ask her to tone it down a little, she pretended to listen at first, but soon forgot about it. As for my father, he was not from our clan, not even from our village. He was a stranger and ended up being at the very bottom of the clan’s hierarchy. My sister said that he could stand a lot of things, but not the betrayal and disregard towards him from his once loved one. Of course, this was not the only reason he left. After that, looking at how Ino’s parents perfectly understand each other and always try to find a compromise, on how strong their union is… I want the same kind of family. Yes, I can act like my mother, be short tempered and impulsive. I think you noticed it when we first met. I admit I behaved horribly, but with people close to me, whom I don’t want to lose, I try to control myself and work on it.”
“That’s… amazing Kiba. And despite the fact that you mostly act like a jerk -” he snorted and a small smile formed on her lips- “I have to admit that after knowing you better, I have respect for you. You don’t try to please everyone. You give all of yourself and your warmth only to the ones that are close to you. Only to those who, in your opinion, deserve it, disregarding the rest. This is right. I share the same point of view. But since you really want to find your soulmate, have you ever thought that you might end up being the one to leave your home? Are you ready for such a sacrifice yourself?”
Kiba fell silent. At first it seemed that he was deep in thought, but in reality, everything was different. He was frightened and listened to the silence of the night trying to find out if someone was eavesdropping on them. For a moment, the girl even thought that he used ninjutsu to sniff out strangers and make sure that there were no one near them.
As white as a sheet, he took her hand and ‘wrote’ his answer on the inside of her palm with a finger:
“Yes”
She glanced at him. His actions spoke louder than words.
“Your father is dead, isn’t he?”
”Were you born in a clan or joined it later, you cannot leave it.”
”I understand. After all, in Kiri, a lot is happening inside our clans too.”
They both sat in uncomfortable silence.
“When you said that my parents are not soulmates, you also said “either”. So..?”
“You heard right. You know that before Terumi-sama, Kirigakure was overflowing with nepotism and bribery? Well, people were willing to do anything to move up the career ladder. My mother really wanted a higher position in ANBU, so she made my father fall in love with her and convinced him that she was his soulmate. As you understand, it was also important for my father to find ‘the true one’ but when he realized that he was fooled it was already too late. He comforted himself with the fact that he seemed to love my mother even without that spiritual bond, plus he loved me with all his heart and soul. But in fact, the love between my parents was one-sided… and because of the special treatment to the Yuki clan, my father was never at home. So… when you start looking for your destined one, please be careful, okay? I do not want the same fate for you or for anyone else.”
Okay, let’s change the topic” - he waved his hands in a playful defensive gesture “You mentioned that you have a dream. So, what kind of dream?”
“Well, you chose a bad one to distract me, because my dream is deeply connected with my family. You know about the genocide of the Yuki clan?”
“Mmm, sorry, to be honest, not really. Only that when the Uchiha clan was massacred, the elders whispered with each other that it could be the same case as it was with your clan, where it was the Kage’s order or some sort.”
“The Yuki clan was once considered to be one of the most powerful clans in the village of the Hidden Mist. And of course, quite dangerous, especially for the past Mizukage, or rather, for the one who controlled him. So, one night, the entire main branch was killed and the clan’s library burned down. The Yuki clan was officially made part of a lower caste. Some clan members managed to escape, while others were often sent on dangerous and suicidal missions. Now from the once large clan, only 30-40 people remain in Kiri, and most of them are elders and children. For comparison, grandfather Naoki had four children, the same age as my father, and only one daughter remained alive. As you know, my frightened and repressed clan avoided communicating with each other. In fact, in my childhood, it was as if the clan did not exist at all. Childhood in Kiri was not easy, but the other children at least had a clan, a large family that stood up for them. I wanted it too. I wanted to be a part of a clan and before my illness I dreamed of reviving the Yuki clan, regaining lost knowledge and finding all the relatives lost around the world, whom, as far as I heard, were not liked by both ninjas and civilians. But now after that illness… I must find every single Yuki alive to make sure that no one will be alone while fighting the family curse and that no one will go through the same pain as me, giving them a chance to be cured. And I will do it, no matter what… If I survive, of course…”
“It’s … A great dream to achieve-,” he scratched his head not knowing what to say- “And I am sure you will! Just don’t be so pessimistic! “
”I am realistic.”
“Pessimistic.”
“Realistic!”
“OK, OK!” he chuckled.“Looks like only realists like you, who talk about how bad and terrible everything will be, turn out to be chuunins.”
“What? Kiba, I don’t… urgh forget it! Arguing with you on any topic is simply useless when you are stubborn as a mule.”
“Said another mule!”
She laughed. Warmly and sincerely, for the first time this evening, and perhaps since they returned from that ill-fated mission.
”By the way, if your life in the hidden mist was so bad why do you hate the idea of moving to another place? Like here, to Konoha?”
“First of all, my life in Kiri is perfect now. Secondly, when people will learn that I am from the hidden mist they will hate me. The only thing that saves me now is that commoners think I am a distant relative of Ino.”
“Why do you think that?”
“You never heard why Kiri women are hated so much?”
“No.”
“Well let me tell you,” she grinned sinisterly. “One year, in our village, due to hunger, disease and war, there were practically no men left. Then the women decided to fill this gap by stealing men from other villages. But then they questioned themselves, how to transport healthy and adult shinobi without harming them? This is how the world-famous art of Kirigakure ANBU was born, thanks to which we can immobilize even the most powerful warrior,” she chuckled as a senbon she used in some missions appeared from nowhere, - “With the combination of many factors, but still. Well, those poor souls who ended up in Kiri … they essentially had no choice, but to marry ladies there if they wanted to live.”
“Are you joking?!”
“I’m not! In fact, my great-grandfather was kidnapped from the village hidden in the Stone. So, be careful Inuzuka Kiba! Who knows, maybe my illness is just a part of a secret mission and I’m actually here to pick up suitable candidates… And you might end up being one of them! You may turn out to be a good third husband for me, you know?”
He laughed.
“Oh really? Well, I would die to see how you would try to steal me with such an amazing guard as Akamaru!”
“Oh darling,” she grinned and hugged the huge white dog,” I would find a way to make that adorable boy my partner in crime! “
Akamaru happily barked in agreement and both teenagers burst into laughter, almost falling off the swing.
“By the way,” she said after a small pause, “I have to admit that fireflies are much more beautiful in Konoha. Thank you for letting me enjoy such beauty…”
He bit his lip and took her hand in his. The Ice crystals were still showing from her bandage returned them both to the dreadful reality.
“You will survive Tsu, I promise you, and you will see many more fireflies. Not only these.”
She looked at him with a faded, crooked smile. A smile that only gravely ill and very tired people have. Kiba returned her a look and his heart squeezed painfully in his chest, skipping a beat.
“Don’t make a promise that you can’t keep.”
”I’ll keep it! You will see. We are close to finding the ancient temple of the Yuki clan, and there definitely should be information on how to cure you. And after the next mission is completed, we will go to a grill bar! In the land of water there are only sea creatures and practically no normal beef. I cannot let you go back to Kiri without letting you know all the delights of good meat.”
She chuckled.
“If you say so.”
But there would be no grill bar or any next time. They found information about the temple location, but at the cost of everything else. The disease turned out to be unstoppable at this point. Luckily, they managed to reach it in time and save Tsubasa’s life.
Three months had passed since her miraculous recovery. Representatives of the Mist village appeared in Konoha the next day and took the girl with them, not allowing her even to say goodbye to her new friends. Still, their paths will cross in the future.
Upon returning to Kiri, Tsubasa began to communicate a lot with Ino through letters, which made the Mizukage almost ecstatic. She hoped that friendship with the clan princess would turn into a possible strong political tie in the future. One way or another, Mei was going to make her children, if not a future Mizukage, then those on whom the village could rely. Sometimes Mei was so happy about the benefits that Tsubasa had a feeling that her illness and departure to Konoha were part of Sensei’s plan to improve relationships with the village from the very beginning. However, she thought it was too weird and silly to be true.
She also sent letters to Kiba. Feelings for him that suddenly flared up in her heart were not planning to disappear, but she still had no intention of getting into his personal life. He wanted to find his soulmate, and she respected that wish. This was the least she could do for him. “Besides,” she thought while drinking peach tea in the evenings and remembering how he was trying to warm her drastically freezing body on their trip to the temple, “it is unlikely that we would have succeeded even if there would be no soulmate. We are too loyal and attached to our villages and clans. None of us would move to another village for the sake of other. Only a soulmate had such privilege.“
Therefore, she was happy to be his friend at least, send the boxes of tangerines and dried seafood snacks on special occasions, help with advice on everyday problems that all teenagers went through, regardless of which shinobi village they were born in, and just talk about all sorts of nonsense.
At six am, there was a loud knock on the door. Tsubasa was just getting ready for the training and she had no idea who would need to see her at such an early hour (her teammates were waiting for her at the training field, so it could not be them).
A familiar figure was standing outside of the door. Tired from the road, a little nervous, but smiling. Holding a medium-sized flat box under his arm.
“Kiba? What are you doing here, especially this early?!”
“There were reasons,” he said giving her a box, “may i come in?”
“Of course, you can, I’ll make you some tea and something to eat for you two.”
The girl moved away to the side, letting the boy and his dog into the apartment. Akamaru immediately stretched and laid himself on the carpet of the living room, while Kiba took a seat in the kitchen.
“So, what’s the reason you came here?”
“Open the box,” he said with a smile.
Tsubasa raised her eyebrows skeptically. She put the box on the table, thin fingers gripping the blue lid and pulling it up. Her father’s mask with its cold material was staring right into the girl from the inside. Frozen in complete shock, looking at the once-lost thing dear to her heart, she did not notice how Kiba approached her from behind.
“I just felt lost,” he said in a soft voice, while tucking a loose strand behind her ear. Their faces were only a few inches apart, “And desperately wanted to be found.”

You okay? You haven’t been very active last days
Awe, thanks for asking. It’s kinda a bit long but here it goes.
Pretty much in April my ex broke up with me over the phone during quarantine literally just throwing away the whole future we had planned because he’s chosen without mentioning it to be at all to go to a different country for Uni and he wanted to have “a fun summer” without depression of having us both saying goodbye. We’d been dating for fifteen months, talking for sixteen and it was a really really passionate relationship with a lot of high emotion from both parties. However, a lot of high emotion leads to volatility which is why the last six months of our relationship was really toxic and brought my mental health down to a point where I had so much anxiety I went down from 46 to 41 kilos just purely because of not eating due to stress.
Moving on, our relationship became sorta toxic because of my ex. He has a huge ego, is very competitive and we’re both really into debating. He started to make everything a competition between us and he would go off on the smallest things. Like he would call be every hour or thirty minutes when I was hanging out with friends or I wanted him to smoke hookah a little less and he broke our agreement but when I tried weed one time he went literally ballistic. No, it wasn’t an abusive relationship. The atmosphere was just... really toxic. We both were on the debate team and I kept winning while he kept losing and he always sorta resented me for that, like he felt so threatened that I was doing better than him in school... or debate... or in my personal life.
So yeah, us breaking up was a good thing but it doesn’t stop there. We really really loved each other. And love doesn’t conquer all, you know? Anyways, he broke up with me in early April and didn’t contact me for two whole months. We went from talking everyday to talking zero times in two months. However, the next time we did meet he proposed a meeting under the guise of he needed to get his stuff. So he shows up at my house, gets his stuff and then stays for three hours pleading and saying like he made a mistake, a rash mistake and I kinda told him... no. And honestly it was the hardest thing I ever had to do because we still loved each other so much but he hadn’t changed at all. So, that following week, we had a house party for graduating seniors. The entire night, he made out with one of my friends in front of me because he wanted to make sure I had a really shitty night. And yeah... it wasn’t nice. But I had a lot of guys trying to get with me and, we’ll, his best friend of ten years was one of them. His best friend made a move and I owed nothing to my ex so I went with it, we’re friends after all.
He isn’t really close with his best friend anymore because he’s really jealous and hurt his best friend did that. Which I understand but at the end of the day... all his friends were pissed at him at this party because he kept getting jealous whenever I was with a guy and just staying in my own lane even tho HE broke up with me and shit over the phone... The following week at another party that he wasn’t invited to, he removed me from our last media of contact we still had each other on and I didn’t hear from him for another month and a half.
Flash to my birthday. August 3. It’s 1 am and he called me out of the blue wishing me a happy birthday. I really wasn’t... thrilled. At this point I was finally okay. I had moved on mentally (of course your heart still stays with the people you once loved), I had a great friend group around me, I finally was able to start gifing and writing again because I felt really... happy. Really good about myself. Like the best I’ve felt about myself in like a decade. I even got my weight up to 45 kilos after going on a diet to gain weight! And my ex’s entire phone call I was speaking so strong but my fucking body was shaking so hard. I know it sounds stupid but I was so fucking scared because I had finally rebuilt myself and I knew this person would have the power to bring me right back down.
On my birthday, we saw each other. We hung out at his house, I spent the night. He looked so fucking miserable. He had so much guilt and regret over what he did to me in his eyes but it seemed like he spent the entire day just trying to make it up to me. It broke my fucking heart because he kept asking me to be more affectionate and I told him no, he’s not my boyfriend and after all he did, he doesn’t deserve it. He would kinda try to... play the field. As in he would say things like “I love you” and then see my reaction and then base his next action off of that reaction. He said “I love you”, I made a face, and he played it off like a joke. He was trying to take the upper hand as usual but I didn’t let him. When I left he told me if I ever wanted to hang out, we could.
I didn’t take that too seriously but my dad left for a few days last week so my brother invited a friend and I invited my ex just to drink and have a good time. At the end of the day, my ex said we’re friends even tho he’s the one who cut me off. My ex’s problem is that he really wants desperately he get back together, to be together again because he still loves me but I don’t want that to happen. Maybe in the future when he’s a changed and better person but for now like... no. Even tho it really hurts. Anyways we had a perfect night. I basically left loose and told him all that he did wrong... that what he did really hurt me... that he’s selfish, unkind and takes people for granted. I told him I pitied him because he sees the world so negatively when there is so much beauty around him. He didn’t try and argue... he just got really sad and told me he understood. He also told me he loved me and didn’t take it back. His eyes looked so fucking crushed because he knew how badly he fucked up. He was throwing compliments about my to my brother, he couldn’t keep his hands off me and when he held me, his fist would clench in my shirt like he was desperately trying to keep hold of me.
We’re essentially just two people who understand that he has to go through a lot of change before we can ever be right for each other again. We love each other so much but even he admitted... he’s just not right for me and he’s not good. He wants to change but he just doesn’t know how, how he’s acted is really all that he knows. Anyways... he spent the night and I kinda knew it was going to be the last time we see each other for months, maybe years, maybe a decade. And he just layed in bed like he really really didn’t want to have to go even though he knew he was going to have to. That’s it. We left on good terms. He’s still in love with me.
To answer your question, for the first time in a long time and I’m just going to be honest. I’m not okay. I’m really not okay. He’s right, he’s not good for me. But it really sucks that his selfish actions and his decisions just did that... to us. I will always love him but I’m not in love with him anymore. We click so well, and we’ve both never found another person whether family, friend or more intimate that we’ve each clicked for. Who knows... maybe one days I’ll meet a better version of him and I’ll take him back when I see he’s more mature and changed. But for now... I was okay until this month when he just decided to slip back into my life. And it doesn’t feel fair. It doesn’t feel fucking fair that I rebuilt myself and I was doing the best I ever had just for him to come back into my life and remind me of his presence.
It’s not like I had forgotten about things like how his hair feels, his accent, his scent or his mannerisms... I hadn’t. Him being around just reminded me of them. And I was doing so well. I had truly moved on mentally in life and was doing the best I ever had. I cry maybe once a year... and now I’m crying literally five times a day because I miss him so much and it hurts having to realize that we’re both strangers who are going to live completely separate lives. It hurts so bad I can’t even explain it really and the writer in me just doesn’t idk.
I’m really sorry for his rant. I have a lot on my chest. I really really am not doing okay. I basically went back two months recovery, back to a point where I can barely get myself to do anything and I just feel really hurt. Its not the worst thing that ever happened to me... but I lost my best friend and a boyfriend, a person I loved so fucking dearly and had all those passionate cliche movie first loved with. It’s the worst thing too knowing that we both still love each other so much but we know it’s not right. It’s not right for us. I can’t be there to help him along the way and he needs to find himself and his own path in life. Love doesn’t conquer all but I think that’s okay. You know? I have to delete a good quali lap for a chance at a great one. I was really looking forward to going to college, starting over and getting out of this city full of memories... but I can’t because my Uni is online first semester so I’m still here. Again... sorry for the rant.

Tips from Maddy
Hey there.
So the other day I was having a conversation with one of my coworkers who was talking about her weight loss journey and how she was going about it and immediately I was getting warning signs all over the place simply because I have been through exactly what she is going through and I wanted to help inform her on what can possibly happen if she continues the way she is right now. I had told her a few good tips and tricks which was a lot of information to process so she asked if I could writes this all down for her to which I happily agreed to do. 
As I was writing this I realized that this information could be super helpful to others out there who are dieting and wanting to lose weight. I am no expert in any sense, I’m still learning things out myself and seeing what works but I have learned a lot over the past couple of years. 
So, here I am giving my tips to you guys. I hope that you learn something from this and if you can share this so others can see and learn as well that would make me so happy. 
Again please keep in mind that I do not have any qualifications, this is all my own personal experience and what I have learned from seeing many doctors, specialists, naturopaths (I have seen way too many people to help me seriously) 
Everything that I have written on here are things that I have learned over time as well as try them out myself and see what works for me. Please keep in mind that there will be some things that will help and other things that won’t. I’m always more than happy to discuss anything if you have any questions if something doesn’t make sense or you’re curious about more information.
Typically, when I talk about my diet, I don’t necessarily mean being in a caloric deficit but more about what I eat and my lifestyle in general. I’m not the type of person to eat less to lose weight, I’m more about eating good healthy foods and exercising the right amount for my body to handle without pushing it to the edge. I’ll give you my basic rundown of my history a couple years ago and what I learned from it.
Around three years ago I decided to change my diet and my overall lifestyle. I was 21 years old and weighing around 64kg. Keep in mind around the time I decided to change my eating habits was when I just came back from a holiday in Korea and Malaysia and boy I did not hold back on eating while away. I was young and used to a diet where I ate what I wanted and didn’t think much of it but over time as I got older I noticed that I wasn’t really recovering as quickly after eating junk food like I did when I was a teenager in high school.
Growing up I was never fat or obese in any sense. I was fit, I played hockey and karate and I would happily enjoy sports during school and enjoy walking, riding, anything I felt like I wanted to do. I was never really interested in being super skinny, I had a little fat on my tummy but it never really bothered me until after I finished high school. That was when I became more aware of how other people would look at me, make comments about my body and thus making myself become more aware of my own body.
When I was 21 I didn’t think that “Oh my god I am so fat and imperfect I need to fix this!” it was “I want to change my eating and just become healthier overall” and so I started to change things bit by bit. I cut things out that I knew my body couldn’t exactly handle such as gluten and dairy and noticed changes in my body such as my face was clearing up of pimples and acne. I was losing weight little by little which at the time made me really happy as it was something that has never happened to me before. That is what lead me down the path that I wish I read the warning signs early on but because I had this goal of ‘you must lose a certain amount and then you will be successful’ but didn’t notice how toxic it became.
I became obsessed with exercise. I would go to the gym 5-6 days a week as well as do 2-3 spin classes as well as 2-3 karate sessions each week, on top of working at a restaurant which is a physically labouring job. Yes I lost weight over time and I didn’t think it was bad simply because it was small amounts every month, ranging between ½ - 1kg every month.
Over roughly one and a half years I went from being 63kg to 53kg. I was the lightest I had ever been, and the strongest I had ever been however things caught up to me very quickly. There was a certain point probably one month after I turned 22 when I started to notice my hair falling out. I didn’t think anything of it and just thought “Oh I have long hair and it happens” which was true but I would wake up every morning with hair all over my pillow and sheets, brushing my hair it would come out and throughout the day strands would fall out. I had always had thick hair so I didn’t really notice it until a lot had come out. By that point I had become lethargic and tired all the time, I would struggle to climb a flight of stairs and I could see that my body was taking a big step backwards.
This was when things went really bad.
I had denied it over and over, never daring to say that I have body image issues and everything was falling apart because I wanted to hold onto this little moment that I had worked so hard for was slowly slipping out of my grasp and I tried so desperately to hold it close to me.
Everything came crashing down so quickly I didn’t know what to do.
Over a period of 3 months the muscle that I had built over a year was gone, I had gained around 7kg and I was severely depressed with health issues I didn’t know how to deal with and am still dealing with to this day.
I’m telling you this not to frighten you but to let you know that this can happen if you are not careful when you diet, if you ignore what your body is telling you and keep pushing yourself to that point that you cannot return from. I had screwed up my metabolism, was close to being diagnosed with chronic fatigue and had to deal with the fact that the body I had a few months ago was gone and that I had/have body image issues.
I am someone who is not afraid to talk about my past and I’m willing to talk about myself and my experiences if it means that I can help someone else.
I have come across many people who do all these fad diets and starve themselves which I didn’t go to any extremes but I did limit what I ate at times which is what would have been one of the factors that screwed up my metabolism and caused my body to just go screw you I’m going into survival mode.
There is nothing wrong with wanting to lose some weight and wanting to be fit and strong because that is what you like and you want to feel that way, I’m all about being fit and healthy but you have to make sure that you do it in a safe manner. Do not expect for weight to come flying off and that it will stay that way because boy oh boy that is not the case. It is something that you have to work at all the time, it’s a lifestyle. This is why I like to endorse a healthy lifestyle change, not just diet for a bit and enjoy how you look for a short amount of time.
As I said when I started back then I made small changes such as eliminating certain foods which is a great way to start. Going online and reading all these articles about how to lose weight and doing particular exercises to lose a few kilos is very confusing and quite honestly overwhelming so keep it simple.
One of the important things is that you need to learn about food and not be afraid of it. You need to figure out what your body can tolerate and what it can’t. It’s all trial and error but you will learn over time what is acceptable. Food is energy, the more energy you have the more you can do but the less energy you have the less your body will tolerate. Don’t think that eating an apple in the morning and going throughout the rest of your day on just that single apple will do you any good, quite honestly it will do you more damage not to eat.
If you deprive your body of food your body will go into survival mode and hold onto body fat. It goes into this defensive mode to keep your body alive and if it means storing fat because it can’t trust you to feed it then that is what it will do. Naturally it will eat away at your muscle as well so it’s important to feed your body!
I highly recommend eating a good breakfast, having a decent lunch and eating a small dinner. The reason behind this is because when you wake up in the morning this is when your body wakes up from its rest and will start to get to work. Breakfast literally means to break your fast. Fasting is when you don’t eat for an extended period of time so to break your fast you need to eat. Tada Breakfast!
Many people find that they aren’t hungry in the morning which can be due to a few reasons. One they may have had a large or late dinner and so they aren’t hungry due to that. Maybe they are used to not eating in the morning however they find that they will eat big meals for lunch and dinner or they will tend to snack a lot during the day.
You want to eat like a king for breakfast, eat like a prince for lunch and eat like a princess for dinner.
Meaning eat a big meal in the morning, eat a good meal at lunch and then have a small meal for dinner.
Dinner is the last meal of the day and most of the time after you’ve had dinner you’re going to wind down, enjoy Netflix and then fall sleep. You’re not doing much after dinner, all depending on your life and what your job entails, but for most people night time is time for rest and sleep. The last thing you need is for your stomach to be hard at work breaking down a giant meal that you shoved its way because you didn’t eat enough during the day.
Another thing I want to stress is how much you chew your food. Holy cow I wish I knew this ages ago and it makes such total sense but no one told me before!
Your stomach has acid in it which helps break down your food, more so it’s designed to really break down meats and proteins due to these foods being tough to digest and so it takes longer to breakdown. Fruits and vegetables take a small amount of time and energy to digest but honestly your stomach and digestive system will thank you for chewing your food properly.
I am someone who has working in the hospitality industry for around 8 years and a lot of the time it involves having to shove food down your throat if you want something to eat and continue on with your work as you don’t have time to properly sit and have a meal and you have customers to tend to so of course during these times I have developed a bad habit of chewing my food lazily and swallowing it almost whole but until recently I have been actively trying to change this.
Keep in mind I can eat a lot if I want, and when I say this I mean when I don’t chew and break down my food properly. If you talk to any of my friends they can vouch for me, a lot of the time they question how I can fit so much food into a small body and I would just shrug and say that I’ve always had a big appetite, which is not a lie. Ever since I was little I could fit a lot of food into my stomach but keep in mind I’ve always been an active person so naturally I burn more fuel and so would eat more.
Now that I am more aware of how I chew my food I have learned to slow down when it’s possible for me to do so and really chew my food before swallowing. From this I have noticed that I feel fuller and I’m not eating as much as I used to which makes sense as I have this tendency to overeat but that was simply because I would shove food into my mouth so quickly that my stomach wouldn’t be able to tell me when it was full until it was too late.
So, CHEW YOUR FOOD!
If you’re noticing that you’re not having much energy it means that you’re not getting enough food into your body or that you’re not eating the right kind of food.
Your body needs 11 essential amino acids which in turn makes another 11 non-essential amino acids. These make your DNA and RNA which are the building blocks of life.
These 11 essential amino acids cannot be made naturally from the body and the only way you can get these is through food. I cannot tell you which food hold what properties, this is where you need to do your own research and learn what you can have and what works for you.
I know that for my body I need a 50/50 diet that consists 50% protein/meat and 50% vegetables. This is how my body works, which would be due to my background and heritage but that’s another thing in itself which I could talk about but I am still learning myself so I do not have enough knowledge about it to discuss it. You need to learn what works for you, everyone is different and you cannot do a certain diet that someone else can do because their body may work differently than yours.
I suggest doing the elimination process where you take a specific food such as bread and eliminate that from your diet for about 2-4 weeks and just take note of how you feel. You can eat how you normally eat just take out that one item and then once the 2-4 weeks are done you can try that food again and then see how your body reacts. You’ll be surprised what your body can tolerate after a while. There will be times during this process where you have such strong cravings for specific foods which will make things harder but you need to try as hard as you can not to give in. Most of the time you will stop craving these certain foods after 2 weeks, sometimes it will take longer but again it all depends on you and what your body is like.
Once you’ve tried doing this this is when I suggest going through your notes of what foods you can and can’t have and then create somewhat of a diet plan based off of this to create food that you can eat that will be sustainable. Remember this is a lifestyle change, you want to be able to do this for the long run.
Another thing is enjoy yourself. Please don’t restrict yourself of life’s pleasures. If you want to have chocolate then have it but I suggest doing so in small doses and less often. I tend to have a cheat meal/day one every two weeks. Sometimes it can be once a week, sometimes it can be once every three to four weeks. I honestly go on what my body tells me.
LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. It will tell you what it wants.
If it wants to rest, let it rest. If it needs more food, maybe because you’ve been exercising more, then eat more. If you’re really craving a specific food then have it, as long as it’s not every single day it’s not going to hurt.
During a lot of dieting phases we tend to have a weak moment and then we punish ourselves by either pushing our bodies to do extra work at the gym and exhausting ourselves and becoming miserable, or we binge and give up completely. Do not let these moments get to you. Easier said than done I know but we are human and we need to be kind to ourselves.
Another thing I want you to keep in mind is treat yourself kindly. Let me ask you this question. Everything that you tell yourself would you tell it to a friend?
Let me give you an example.
A lot of us who are dieting or look at ourselves in the mirror and notice all the imperfections in our bodies will tend to put ourselves down and we let it happen. We say to ourselves that we aren’t good enough, I am fat, I’m not muscular enough, I’m not good looking, my stretch marks are ugly, etc.
How would you feel if someone said these exact same things to you? I’m pretty sure it’s easy to say that you would feel like crap. So why do we let ourselves say/think these things about ourselves?
Here’s another question. Would you say those exact same things to your friends or family? I’m pretty sure the answer to that would be no.
You know that saying things like that would be hurtful to anyone, so again why do we let ourselves say these things to ourselves.
When it comes to exercise I suggest it’s a good idea to see a personal trainer who can set up a program for you. They will adjust it to what suits you but be honest and tell them whether the program is too much or too little, they are there to help you.
Also when it comes to exercise if you’re wanting to gain muscle you need to eat more protein. It’s pretty simple. You cannot create something out of nothing so if you don’t have extra protein in your body to help build extra tissue in your body then your body will eat away at the muscle you have. Also keep in mind the more muscle you have the more energy you will burn throughout the day so lifting weights and gaining muscle is honestly one of the best things you can do when it comes to “dieting”.
There is no way you’re going to become a beefy body builder unless you’re going to the gym every day and following a strict diet plan, so don’t stress about that. Again enjoy your exercise and try something new and fun.
I’ll quickly recap everything because there’s a lot I went through so here:
-          Don’t be afraid of food
-          Food is fuel = energy
-          CHEW YOUR FOOD
-          Try eliminating food from your diet
-          Enjoy yourself: have a cheat meal/day every now and then
-          LISTEN TO YOUR BODY: it will tell you want it wants
-          Be kind to yourself: don’t run yourself into the ground
 There is still so much that I am learning, I am no expert in any sense so don’t expect a miracle from what I’ve told you. This is what I have to offer and I hope it helps in any way, big or small.

Change…. September 2017 part 2
Sitting with a Consultant Oncologist in his office having to receive bad news and listen to the treatment plan is probably one of a few really stressful meetings most people will ever have. It was certainly that way for me 20 years ago. It was hard to take in and process the information. You never ask all the right questions and often come out with needing to ask all the questions that you have forgotten. I have learnt over the years that a good consultant will be clear and concise with the information you need and that it is possible to leave the meeting with all the knowledge you need to start the treatment cycle. For me, 20 years on and after 4 other cycles of chemotherapy for both Breast and Ovarian cancer, not to mention surgeries and radiotherapy, I am able to remain calm, ask all the questions I need to know and feel like I have control and a certain amount of opinion on what the next step should be.
So, back to my meeting and this is pretty much the way it went; All emotions were left at home that morning because they served me no benefit in working through the diagnosis and treatment plan. I listened the the disgnosis in a very prepared and controlled way. The consultant told me that I possible had over 2 litres of fluid in my abdomen and this was the main cause of my symptoms, so the first thing to do was to have that drained within a few days. Secondly the chemotherapy that he was proposing consisted of two drugs, Carboplatin and Caelyx. They would be given every 4 weeks for 6 cycles and he was optimistic for a good outcome. He knows me pretty well and also knows that I had a wedding coming up. So I let him know that I needed him to plan the treatment around the wedding which at that point was in 4 weeks and I had two points that I needed or wanted him to work around. Firstly I wanted to be at the wedding looking and feeling as well as I possibly could so that I could enjoy the day and socialise with everybody and not look like the sick lady in the corner! I wanted the big day to be all about the bride and groom and in no way did I want to have any attention on my health. My second request was that I wanted to be at the wedding with my own hair! I hadn't got to within 4 weeks of the day to lose it now. Vain or what 😂. I was pretty confident that he would try his best to plan around my requirements as people's day to day lives are just as important to the medical staff as the treatment they have to go through. Back to the plan; the fluid was being drained a couple of days following this meeting and then I would begin chemotherapy the following week. To start, I would just have the Carboplatin and then the week following the wedding they would introduce the Caelyx and I would have both together. The Caelyx potentially has some slightly more interesting side effects. The only worry was hoping that the fluid stayed away until after the wedding as it is quite likely to build back up until the chemotherapy can start to do its job. Once the consultation was over I left feeling happy and confident with the plan and also feeling that I could contribute and have some control over my path.
Over the next 4 weeks the medical team and everyone I came into contact with went above and beyond to help me achieve my goal. 4 litres of fluid was drained from my abdomen during an overnight stay in hospital. Not the most pleasant of experiences as it makes you feel quite strange. But it was worth it as prior to it being drained I was only eating half a banana a day, Any more, and I felt terrible. Over night I lost about 7 kilos (about 14 lbs). Not a diet I would recommend but I have to say I liked the new slimmer look and the smaller sized jeans 😜
The chemotherapy began and having had Carboplatin before I thought it would be a walk in the park as it was just the one drug. How wrong was I! It took me the best part of a week to recover. Unfortunately the following week which was now a week before the big day, I realised that the fluid had started to build back up and following an ultrasound another 2.5litres of fluid was drained just 4 days before the day. Another 6lbs in weight lost. It was a good job that I had bought another outfit to wear for the wedding 😊
The wedding day was stunning, from beginning to end. The bride and groom looked amazing and it was impossible for anyone to not feel the amount of love that is between them. The weather was gorgeous, the venue and food was incredible and the speeches and after dinner Mr & Mrs games were brilliant. It was a day full of emotion and tears but it was also full of so much laughter that my sides hurt. My thanks go to everyone that helped get me there feeling and looking great.
5 days later I was back in the hospital for the second round of chemo, consisting of both drugs. It turned out to be the worst week or two that I have ever had on chemotherapy due to the side effect. I felt nauseas, I couldn't eat because everything I tried to eat tasted revolting. I would put something in my mouth and within two chews I knew I wouldn't be able to swallow it. My husband must have made so much food which went straight in the bin plus some days he made at least two visits to the supermarket in search of something healthy that I might be able to eat. By day 8 after treatment I felt really weak and had lost another 4kilos (8lbs). My head felt really fuzzy from the effects of the steroids to the point that concentrating was difficult. They also affected my sleep and I was awake by 1am every night for a week. I spent most of the week on the sofa or in bed because I felt so lousy. It was day 9 after treatment before I could say that I even started to feel a little better and then another 5 days to get my appetite back and gain a bit of strength.
So the best thing to do after a really bad week is have a holiday 😊. We had a week already booked to go to the beautiful island of Majorca which one of my Facebook friends had aptly called 'sparkle'. The sun made everything it shone on sparkle and look even more beautiful. We went with my sister, her husband and 13 year old son who have also been going through a similar battle which has been extremely stressful for all of their family and ours. It was a lovely week and allowed me to get in my 'cancer free bubble' and forget the realities of my life for just a short time. I like to think we all benefitted from the break. We did nothing apart from relax, eat and drink. I can safely say that plenty of Sangria was consumed by both sister and I and thank goodness for my 13 year old nephew who designated himself our responsible adult and made sure we returned to our rooms at the end of the evening 🤣🤣🤣
I just wanted to say to any friends or family that may read this blog that I am sorry that I have kept most of you in the dark for such a long time, despite your questions and concern. I have become a master of smoke and mirrors and I have let you think that everything has been fine. This was done so that I could keep my life as normal as possible for as long as possible. Once the secret is out the reality sets in and I didn't feel that there was anything to tell until I began this treatment. It is now that I need support. It is not as easy as I make out and at times it is a very lonely journey.
I will keep you posted on my new slimmer look and the new jeans that already need a belt. There is always a silver lining to any situation if you look hard enough 😜

In the sort of serious pain that isn't quite bad enough to call an ambulance but is still scary and I'd love to hear your voice, though I'm reluctant to wake you up without you seeing these because involuntary pain noises are not my finest and would probably be alarming
This is the sort of cramping where I feel a bit like I'm giving birth out through my spine and my kidneys by turns and I wish I knew what triggered it so I could stop doing whatever the fuck that is

@lemonsharks stayed awake and on the line with me while I screamed. For over an hour. I sobbed and threw up and turned into a creature made of hurt and noise.
I did not go to hospital, because the last time I’d done that, for pain only slightly worse, I was sent home with a pat on the head and indigestion tablets.
“Has anything happened to you recently?” the ER doctor asked, looking exhausted.
“Well, the ambos think this might be gall pain, and I’ve lost 30 kilos in 12 weeks—“
“—­Good! Keep doing that. “
“Doesn’t weight loss affect your gall bladder? This was pretty quick…”
“Obesity causes more problems,” he said. “And you’re not out of the woods yet. Still. Well done.”
I’m usually good at pain, for a given value of unsurprised and able to talk myself through it. I’ve had my feet rebuilt three times. I’ve broken ribs eight times. I have the sort of endometriosis that used to make me bleed four weeks out of five while I curled around myself and ended up with chronic kidney infections. Sometimes my hands lock in the cold. I’ve had needles shoved directly into my eyeball. I know different textures and weights of pain. I knew the sort I can walk through, the sort where my body is actively trying to tell me something, and the times when too many signals have gone off all at once and I’m left with an aching, all-body hangover.
This pain? It made me babble. It stretched hours into minutes and then minutes into hours, gave me chills, made me throw up and whimper and ask the world to please, please stop hurting me. It was breathtaking. Humiliating. And it happened on and off over a year, ever since I went on a medically supervised fasting diet at the combined request of my GP, my eye surgeon (I was due for a transplant in the middle of 2016) and my mother.
I am, like a lot of sedentary ex-nightshift workers who take very important large amounts of progesterone to keep that endometriosis I mentioned from clawing me up from the inside, a fat woman. I’m mostly okay with this, because if I’m going to pick between ‘debilitating pain and anxiety’ and ‘bouts of self-loathing when I try to buy jeans’, I’m going to pick option 2 every fucking time. But that eye surgeon, with his continued muttering about how the fact that I didn’t have diabetes was a bloody miracle, really pissed me off. Fine, I thought. I will lose some weight and you will shut up and do your job and yeah, maybe it is time to untangle all that stress eating because no, I don’t enjoy it, and…ugh…just stop yelling at me.
So I asked my GP what I could try. I didn’t think just going to the gym would cut it in the early, inertia-prone stages and I didn’t want to deal with the additional self-loathing of having ‘failed’ if I ended up piking. She agreed, and suggested Optifast, a fairly vile but well established meal replacement plan, plus gym. I reflected briefly that it was good I was working two jobs, because this was going to be fucking pricey.
I did it. I spent twelve weeks subsisting on chocolate or coffee flavoured vitamin sludge with instances of steamed broccoli or bok choi as blessed relief. I took swimming lessons to relearn how to breathe while moving. That bit was actually lovely. I started to enjoy lifting almost-heavy objects, mostly because my scarred-up body and CP limp alarmed the local gym bros. Plus, it was a distraction when I had moments fantasizing about tearing off my own arm and eating it, mostly for a change in texture. It didn’t actually feel that bad. The first three days were horrible, for the second week I mostly felt vaguely high, and the for the rest of it I was just bored. The exercise, as discussed, began to feel unnervingly empowering.
The way other people responded to the weight loss, though? That was a complete mind fuck.
“You look so healthy!”
“Congratulations!”
“I bet you feel so good!”
“You look less disabled now! I bet your pain has gone down…” (yes. Really.)
Get published? Eh. That’s the sort of thing Kit does. Nothing special. Lose a socially acceptable amount of weight? Oh my god world peace is just around the corner, you have done this brave and exceptional thing.
At the end of the twelve weeks, otherwise known as ‘the intensive phase’, you reintroduce carbohydrates back into your life. Slowly. That was when the first instance of horrible, stabling, babbling gut pain happened. I assumed that I’d not quite been slow enough with my reintroduction, and so took the ERs non-diagnosis as fact, because it did seem reasonable. Kind of.
I had the surgery, which meant that I gained a lot of the weight back because of the sheer amount steroids they put you on to stop your body from freaking out about having, in the words of Donna Noble, a dead person’s face on your face. I also wasn’t allowed to: swim (I’m still not, because of the stitches, and it’s been almost a year); do cardio; lift even mildly heavy objects or do anything apart from breathe and eat and wince as people gave me tragic looks for several months.

Then I started exercising again and the damn cornea realised it was dead and decided to reject. More steroids! Every hour. Through the night! For an unspecified period of time! My body stored fat like it was the end times, because wouldn’t you?
(staving gut instances: 6 – including the time when @lemonsharks had to deal with her weeping girlfriend at five in the morning)
Why am I talking about this?
Because feeling like you have a large metal spike stuck from your breast bone right out the middle of your back at random but narrowing intervals is fucking alarming, but the only thing my family and GP took note of was my weight. Is it going down? Fantastic! Is it going back up again? Well, to quote the GP who nodded sadly when I told her about the surgeon’s gym ban: “you’ll just have to go back on the Optifast as soon as possible. The stabbing pain? Probably not gall problems! You’re far too young for that.” (Though I was, she’d also pointed out to me, thirty, and so my chances of dying miserable and fat did grow every minute.)
The feeling of having fight or flight response slowly dripping into my bloodstream for months of nightmares and general exhaustion? “Oh, that’ll go away once you lose that weight again.”
I’ve just been off work for two weeks. It was unplanned. I have no leave balance (yaaaay, transplant!)

 On the one hand... Yay knowing what it is BIT ALSO NOT YAY on the hell diet and irritated pancreas
 Me: And possibly removed gallbladder, hence the hospital overnight madness
@lemonsharks: Wait wait did you just have emergency surgery to remove your gallbladder or is that upcoming?
 It was upcoming, because they had to wait for my pancreas to stop trying to eat itself in protest of my gallbladder deciding that it had one job: to make as many stones as my body could hold. And then some.
The feeling of having fight or flight response slowly dripping into my bloodstream? That was bile. I came home from work, the pain happened, and this time it didn’t go away after an hour of screaming. I cracked and called the ambulance, shaking and dripping sweat, throwing up when I wasn’t sobbing, two hours into it.
“Looks like gall pain,” said the ambos, as I apologised for wasting their time and they stared at me like I was insane and checked some regs to see if they could give me more morphine. “I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy.”
(Ambulance Victoria is filled with good people and they deserve all the pay rises in the world.)
I don’t remember much of the next few hours. Just that I told them not to take me to the hospital where I’d been sent home with indigestion, and that I’d messaged @lemonsharks and desperately tried to be okay.
That bit where I vanish in the message thread? I was in the ICU.
Why am telling you this?
Because I’m fine. The pancreatitis went away and I feel 700 times less miserable (the first photo in this post terrifies me. It was the day before all this happened. I thought I looked normal. I look fucking wrecked. Sad and exhausted. Contrast with the second, where my skin is dodgy as fuck but I look like a tolerably cute and lively human being. That was taken last week, my first day out of the house after I got home from hospital a few days before.)  They took out my gallbladder and I now have a load of new puncture wounds and I need a lot of naps/feel a bit like the world is grey half the time because that’s how I respond to most general anaesthetics. That shall pass. I’m alive. I have amazing friends who’ve visited and given me soup and the best girlfriend in the world and I live in a place that isn’t going to punch me for going to hospital. Yay, socialised healthcare. Things could be a lot worse.
But also, I nearly fucking died. Because of that heady combination of: pressure toward weight loss, culture that reinforces particular types of suffering for the sake of ‘health’, and the tendency to minimise female pain as normal, as expected.
My GP, rueful on the phone as I tried to explain that I was being told I had to have surgery and that I was unprepared and terrified, said: “I’m sorry I didn’t think to take your bloods earlier. It is a shame you can’t do the Optifast route again now, though.”
And that is why I’m posting this. That, along with the small, regretful part of me that agreed with her, because fuck that. Fuck that industry, and the pressure that makes life and safety less valuable than the size you are. 
I can’t do much about some of the mess in my own head, but I can post this and say: you do you. Be safe. You’re loved. And if you do go down the meal replacement path, because as much as I want to burn it to the ground I know that there is no single response to anything, get regular blood tests.

Never mind the Super Bowl, Beer Advocate’s Extreme Beer Fest takes over the Seaport World Trade Center in Boston this weekend on Friday and Saturday, February 1st and 2nd, 2019. I first attended this amazing festival last year as a brewery rep, and over two days still wasn’t able to try everything I wanted to. This year, returning solely for fun, I knew I had to make a plan of attack. Over 400 different beers from 120+ breweries is too damn much for one regular 3 ½ hour session, and so this list was born, highlighting the beers I most want to try. Keep in mind I’m leaning towards big stouts, especially barrel aged, barleywines, breweries I’ve never tried before, generally not available in the NYC area, and beers that just seem downright insane that were brewed one time for this event.
Seeing as this took me a few hours, I figured why not share it, as I’m sure some other people might appreciate going in with a little bit of a plan.  Breweries are listed alphabetically for easy lookup on the fly. If I could offer a few other tips, go in with food in your stomach, drink water throughout, use the buddy system for waiting on line/getting beer and get the beers you MUST try as soon as possible. In the space of about a month, maybe a month and a half, I lost 16 kilos. Before, weighing a healthy 56kg, I dropped down to 40kg exactly. I was extremely underweight, my body was covered in traumatic bruises due to lack of iron and lack of fat giving me a protective layer of padding. My bones constantly ached. Through all of this mistreatment, I still saw him as my angel, I still couldn’t bare the thought of him being hurt. Because we weren’t bad all the time. We had our good moments, and I cherished them like their were the rarest thing on earth. I didn’t leave, I stayed and every time he would threaten to leave I begged him not to. Why? I don’t know why. Well I do, I loved him. I still do. I have never ever felt so much passion and devotion for anyone like I have with him. I have every curve of his smile and ever spec of amber in his eyes memorised. But I also need to love myself, and loving myself and being him cannot coexist. I held hope, wiping my own tears every night and mending my own heart in hope that when we wake in the morning, he will be the same sweet brown eyed boy I fell madly in love with. I prayed that he would return and that this was just a rough patch. I’m sorry for the long rant but there are so many people who go through this. And it isn’t fair, someone who has so much faith in love should not be made to be fearful of it. Please, take care of yourself first. Even if you love them, even if it fucking kills you to watch them walk away, let them. Because if they did love you, you wouldn’t have to recycle your words to them, begging them to treat you half decent. You wouldn’t be going through heartbreak every day and having to heal yourself.

MANILA -- Malacañang on Monday dismissed Vice President Leni Robredo’s findings and recommendations on the illegal drugs campaign as “a dud”, stressing that she was only trying to be “relevant”.
Robredo claimed anew that the Duterte administration’s crackdown on illegal drugs is a “failure” because authorities have seized less than one percent of shabu (crystal meth) since 2016.
Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo, however, said what he considered a “failure” was Robredo’s 18-day stint as co-chair of the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD).
“Palagay ko failure yung pag-upo niya (I think the failure was her appointment there),” Panelo said in a Palace briefing.
He criticized Robredo for implying that her findings contained irregularities she was about to expose when in fact there was clearly nothing new about her report.
“If you notice when she was threatening (about) this report, she implied na meron siyang mga nadiskubreng iregularidad na akala mo’y bombang sasabog sa mukha (that she discovered irregularities you’d think was a bomb that would explode on your face),” Panelo said.
“It’s a dud. Wala naman siyang sinabi dun na bago na hindi tinututukan ng mga ahensiyang involved laban sa droga (She didn’t say anything new which the drug-related agencies are not already addressing),” he added.
Robredo was supposed to release her findings and recommendations on the government's campaign against illegal drugs last Dec. 16 but postponed it due to the magnitude 6.9 quake that hit Davao del Sur.
Panelo earlier questioned why it took Robredo so long to release the findings, insinuating that her findings could be “fabricated”.
Not a failure
Citing police data, Robredo said only one percent of shabu has been seized in the three-year drug war because around 3,000 kilos of shabu is consumed in the country every week or around 156,000 kilos per year.
Data from the PDEA showed it only seized 1,344 kilos shabu from January to October 2019; 785 kilos in 2018; and 1,053 kilos in 2017, she said.
Robredo added that according to estimates from the Philippine National Police (PNP), around PHP1.3 trillion worth of shabu circulates in the country every year. However, law enforcement only apprehended PHP1.4 billion worth of illegal drugs.
Panelo, however, said this did not immediately mean that the drug campaign is a failure but that there is more work to do.
He explained that it was easy for illegal drugs to enter the country being composed of many islands, but noted that despite this, they were still being captured by authorities.

He said Robredo also failed to see the thousands of dysfunctional families by reason of the drug syndicate and only focused on families who have lost loved ones involved in the illegal drug trade.
“I think she just wants to be relevant,” he said.
‘Wrong feeling’
Among her recommendations, Robredo said instead of the PDEA, the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) should chair the ICAD because it focuses on anti-drug policies while the former focuses on law enforcement.
Panelo shrugged off her recommendation, insisting she could not simply rely on her gut feeling.
“What is her basis for saying that? Did she explain? Bakit yan ang feeling niya (Why does she feel that way)? Wrong feeling,” Panelo said. He said Robredo should have consulted with agencies under the ICAD if they were amenable to her suggestion.
“Sila yung mga nandun sa baba, sila ang magsasabi kung okay yung kaniyang rekomendasyon (They’re the ones on the ground, they’re the ones to say whether her recommendations are okay),” Panelo said.
“These are people knowledgeable given the fact that they’ve been there in the last three and a half years. Sila ang nagbibigay ng rekomendasyon (They give the recommendations),” he added.
Panelo, however, said the Palace remains open to her findings and recommendations if useful.
“This is not to say however na kung meron siyang matinong, magandang mungkahe, hindi natin siya iko-consider (that if she is good suggestions, we won’t consider them),” Panelo said.
“So far, ang nakita ko walang basis (But so far, what I see is there’s no basis),” he added.
Should be thankful
Asked if Robredo’s findings would affect the President’s high trust and approval ratings, Panelo said Duterte’s ratings continued to soar amid criticism from the opposition.
“Nakita mo naman kahit na anong banat nila, naging 87 percent nga, lalo ngang lumaki e (You can see that no matter how much they criticize, his trust rating reached 87 percent, it even increased),” Panelo said.
He, however, said Robredo’s higher trust and approval ratings could be attributed to her drug czar stint.

Robredo was appointed as co-chair at ICAD on Oct. 31 to help Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Director General Aaron Aquino in efforts to curb the drug menace.
She was fired 19 days later due to alleged “missteps” such as meeting with foreign personalities and groups that have prejudged the drug war and failing to present new measures in curbing the drug proliferation in the country.
