Domesticity ♡ Jonathan Crane (smut)
pairing: Jonathan Crane (Nolan Verse) x Reader
summary: Jonathan really wants to get you pregnant, it takes a little convincing for you to take it seriously.
Tumblr media
warnings: somewhat possessive behavior from Crane, talk of pregnancy, smut, female reader, just the usual stuff! also, it's not really a warning, but its a pretty simple fluff-smut fic. It's kind of out of character lol.
a/n: sorry for not posting very often, i've been doing really important stuff and definitely not just rewatching the Sopranos again... anyways, I'll probably start posting again since I'm out of a creative funk and have like a million drafts in my docs right now. thanks!
word count: 1.7k
It was soft and gray outside by the time Jonathan got home. The sky was full of clouds and the house was quiet. He put down his briefcase and untied his shoes as he walked into the quiet apartment he shared with you. He could feel this distinct sense of neediness for you he’s become accustomed to when he has a long day. Something was comforting about you, something he couldn’t place his finger on, but you made him happy. It was what most would consider love, but for him, it was all too new for him to name it.
You were laying on your stomach with your elbows perched on the mattress of your soft bed as you read some book Jonathan had recommended to you. You wouldn’t have noticed Jonathan had returned if he hadn’t dragged your attention from the book laid out in front of you by clearing his throat as he walked into your shared bedroom. You looked up at him with that same doting smile you had whenever you saw him and made your way to him. He glanced over at you as he began to take off his tie but your hands quickly replaced his.
“Wait,” You said as you stood in front of him. “Let me do it.”
“Whatever you want.” He replied as if he was doing you a favor.
Truth be told, he liked your desire to do small things for him. There were little things you did that meant you cared about him, despite how cold and cranky he could be occasionally. He would find his glasses cleaned after going to shower or you would get his favorite suits dry cleaned without him even saying anything about it. All those little acts of domesticity he admired in private. He had his acts of fondness as well, he’d stop and pick you up a small treat on his way home and sometimes if he was feeling especially romantic, he would place a vase and flowers out on the kitchen table for you. There were plenty of silent acts of a proper home life that you both devoted time to.
“How was work?” You asked him once you finished taking off his tie and placed it on the dresser.
“It was fine.” He said before giving you a quick kiss on the forehead.
He hated talking about work with you, it was better to keep it vague and short. Anytime you prodded for more detailed responses he would brush it out with a simple, ‘patient confidentiality.’
“I missed you today.” You softly murmured as you wrapped your arms around him and rested your head on his chest.
“Likewise.” He said while slowly caressing your hair.
It was easy for him to just think about you during these moments, with your warmth enrapturing him in a spiderweb of affection. He could put off his alter ego for a night of your intimacy and during these nights, he often thought about how easy it would be just to enjoy you and enjoy the life you could have together. Seeing you so sweet on him made him want to keep you like this forever, something more binding than just living together.
“Thought about you all day.” He softly murmured against your neck as he pulled you over top of him on the bed.
“Yeah?” You asked with a teasing smile. “What in particular?” You asked.
“Thought about you just like this,” He replied, pulling you closer till there was practically no room between you, chest to chest. “You look so pretty.” He added.
You loved his praise, even the simplest of words made you get butterflies like how you did when you first met him. Knowing he was known as cold and bitter to most made it all the more special to hear him speak so fondly of you. You kissed the side of his neck and let out a content sigh as his hands slipped underneath your shirt and fondled your breasts for a moment. You let your neck fall back as he began to kiss the side of your neck and worked his way to your jaw. His teeth sunk suddenly into your jaw which caused you to hiss.
“I was thinking about another thing too,” He added as he pulled away for a moment. “I kept on thinking about how much prettier you’d look with my come in you.” He mumbled the last bit and it made you blush deeply.
“Jon,” You said with a small smile, your hand grazing his cheek. “We’re not married yet, you already wanna knock me up?”
“Don’t be so old-fashioned,” He said as he quickly maneuvered your body to be under his. “It’s just an idea.” He replied as he buried his face into your neck and began to kiss it with a certain amount of passion.
“I’m not against it.” You said quietly as your hands ran down his shoulders. “Just
Are you serious? That’s a big step for us.”
“Of course, I’m being serious.” He says as he pulls from your neck and gazes at you. “I gave myself a hard-on today just thinking about what’d it be like to see you pregnant with my kid.”
You couldn’t help but smile at the declaration. You always had figured he wasn’t one to even think about settling down, that just didn’t seem like him at all, but here he was, talking about having a child with you.
“Never thought I would hear you say something so affectionate.” You giggled and kissed his cheek.
“Can’t help myself.” He murmured as he kissed your lips and then pulled back. “Maybe I just want to marry you and get you pregnant. Have you here taking care of our kid and being a good little mother.”
He kissed you harder than before, clearly getting worked up over the thought of you as a mother. You didn’t mind the thought he had. It made you feel desired beyond just sexual attraction, to want to procreate meant something deeper than moving in with each other or having a pair of his shoes next to yours in the closet.
“Do you want me to dress up in a pin-up dress and wear pearls too?” You asked with a giggle, to which he bit your lip for.
“Don’t tease.” He reprimanded.
Based on his growing erection, he probably did want you to wear the dress and kitten heels, maybe not all the time but just to take it off. Jonathan got needier as he felt you through your clothes. He took your shorts off and discarded them carelessly before rubbing you through your panties. You grunted and pushed your hips to his hands.
“You do want it,” Jonathan mused as he felt your soaked panties. “You just wanna be a housewife with your cunt full of my come, hm?”
“Jonathan,” You mewled. “Just wanna make you happy.”
“You are making me happy,” He said with a small grin as he slipped his hands underneath the seam of your panties and pumped two fingers into you quickly. “It would make me a lot happier to see you nice and pregnant though.”
Jonathan loved how he barely had to touch you to get you into a whimpering mess underneath him. Your face always flushed into a pretty shade of red and your hands held onto him tightly whenever he gave you his fingers. Little moans and whines escaped your lips, no matter how hard you tried to conceal them. His hands left you for a moment as he took off his belt and then took off your shirt, making another short moan of neediness escape your lips.
“Can I come in you tonight?” He asked as he touched the bottom of your stomach, already imagining a phantom bump. “You’d make a great mother.”
Frantically you nodded, hands falling to his chest and pulling off his shirt. He worked on his pants and tossed them to the floor. You kissed him swiftly once he was as bare as you were and felt him hold your leg by the back of your knee as he teased you with more small pumps of his fingers.
“Tell me you want it as bad as I do, sweetheart.” He told you in a hushed voice.
“I want it,” You replied in a whisper. “Wanna have your baby.”
He didn’t need much confirmation after that. Hastily he moved your legs over his shoulders, knowing this position would let him get deep inside of you. Jonathan lined himself up and slowly filled your cunt up with his cock. You quickly inhaled and grabbed his shoulders for some support as he rocked into you. You moaned and felt tears in your eyes from the pressure in your cunt. He sneaked his hand to clit and rubbed it quickly, making everything seem a tad overwhelming. With your orgasm building sharply, you closed your eyes tightly as your cunt clenched around him, making both of you shiver. His hand kept circling your clit making feel more than overwhelmed at this point.
“That’s it,” He grunted from over the top of you. “Gonna make you a mommy, make you full.”
You inhaled in response, his hips coming down into you faster and faster. A few curses tumbled from your lips as another orgasm approached. Sweat began to form at your temple and once the separate orgasm came and went, your legs trembled.
“I’m so close,” He warned you in a hoarse voice. “Fuck, just gonna fill you up with my come and make you mine completely.”
You were too overstimulated to really hear what he was saying, everything blurred together at that moment. He gave you a few more unforgiving thrusts and then came inside of you, holding himself still for a moment to keep it all there. You caught your breaths together and kissed you on the forehead.
“Thank you.” He murmured as he lifted off of you and laid down beside you.
You smiled and then gave him a small kiss on the lips and went to the bathroom, feeling a bit shaky but strangely content with this new declaration. After you cleaned up you went and laid back down with him. He seemed miles away again, eyes fixed on the drawn blinds of your window. You couldn’t tell if he was feeling guilt or maybe a tinge of worry after all of that but you just nestled your head into his chest, listening to his heartbeat.

Get to know me better tag game
Thank you for the tags, @stratocumulusperlucidus and @iboatedhere!
(I started answering these a few days ago and then it languished in my drafts. Don't judge me.)
Favorite color - Purple for life but also, for the past several years, Tiffany blue a.k.a. Pantone 1837c.
Last song - "Temporary Love" by Ben Platt - I named my collection of drabbles after a line in that song.
Currently reading - I just finished You Set The Tone by @iboatedhere and it was so so so beautiful. I also just started chapter 7 of This Is More of a Comment Than a Question by @caterpills (trying to make it last!) and I'm super invested. Reading WIPs is a skill I am trying to develop but man, it's not easy.
Currently watching - House of the Dragon and still slogging through The Sopranos. Also rewatching The Good Place and Will & Grace because #comfortshows ya dig?
Currently craving - I'd love a big breakfast with hashbrowns and bacon right now. Maybe something sweet like a coffee roll.
Spicy/sweet/savoury - Sweet, most of the time.
Coffee or tea - STOP TRYING TO MAKE ME CHOOSE coffee
Hobby to try - I already know how to knit and I've been saying for several years now that this is the year I will learn to crochet. And then I don't. I have all the supplies...
Current au: I'm in the midst of editing a coworkers-to-lovers au that popped into my brain a few days ago. I wrote like 2k words in a bit of a fugue state, so reading it back is... interesting. Hoping to post that soon.
Current obsession - RWRB like always, especially coming up with like 5 AUs a day that I want to write. Writing in general. Does sleeping count? My god, I'm so tired.
Relationship status - My partner celebrated 20 years in May! Although celebrated is definitely overstating it. It's been a rough year in our house.
Tagging @cha-melodius @blueeyedgrlwrites @kiwiana-writes @firenati0n @anincompletelist
@almightaylor @theprinceandagcd @oldfarmwitch @caterpills @cricketnationrise
(Please ignore me if you've done one of these recently, my brain is so broken these days.)

May as well pop this, let's try the Adult Swim cartoons. Favorite character from their initial wave of shows: Space Ghost Coast to Coast (technically started on Cartoon Network first before Adult Swim began in 2001 but it gets lumped in as Adult Swim these days), Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law, Seelab 2021, The Brak Show, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and Home Movies (began on UPN but continued production under Adult Swim). Throwing in Baby Blues, Mission Hill, and The Oblongs as bonuses that began on The WB but also finished on Adult Swim when The WB didn't bother finishing airing them.
Thank you. I may gloss over some later stuff, and you don't seem as into adult animation, so I appricate this. (And correct me if i'm wrong on that). Plus I can see you like doing these. But I grew up on the shows in this block's early days and some of it's middle days, so let's cook.
Space Ghost Coast to Coast: Moltar. IT's a hard choice as the main trio as a whole are all uniquely great, but I love his awkwardness and hidden monstrosity. And his attempts at knife fights. Coast to Coast is excellent and well worth checking out if you haven't. It's funny, got only funnier with time, and a handful of it's best stuff lives rent free in my head, something common among a lot of adult swim shows. And while this did predate adult swim, Space Ghost feels like why the block happened at all and it's earliest shows that weren't taken from the WB or UPN all kinda ape the formula of taking a classic cartoon and bending it, and joined it as soon as the block formed. Without it we woudln't have all these other great shows... I mean we might but it's a razor thin margin. It had a perfect comedic trio of the egotistical stupid manchild spaceghost, the cooler but blantatly evil and self destructive zorak and the also evil but awkward as hell moltar. A true classic and I badly miss C Martin Croker who played Zorak and Moltar and wrote this classic.
Harvey BIrdman Attorney at Law: WHOSE THAT CAT WITH THE BEAKKKKKKKKKKK? This theme song is dope as hell and is the reason this got made. Okay so faviorite character is Phil. HA HA obvious choice. But Stephen Colbert owns every scene he's in as Phil and the show rolls with it as it goes, letting Phil just getting into weird fucking hyjinks, the highlight being blackwatch plad where he hallucinates several things that never existed being stolen, somehow reads harvey's thoughts and institutes code rush's seminal album moving pictures. This show was a lot of funa nd introduced me to the bulk of hannah barbera's catalogue, finding fun ways to deconstruct the classic libraries from Fred as Tony Soprano to leaning on the fact Shaggy isn't actually a stoner but really, REALLY comes off as one, while getting better as it went by expanding on it's own weird cast, with Peter Potamus in paticular being pretty great. Add in some great Stephen Colbert performances before he had to leave for his own show, a killer soundtrack and one of Gary Cole's best performances as our bumbling hero just kind of ping ponged around by his clients and zany boss, and you have a show I now really want to rewatch. Adult swim would have better and shows I rewatched more, but the power of attorney is still strong to this day.
The Brak Show: Dad. George Lowe is just allowed to go into incredibly weird places with this man and I support it. The show itself is an underated classic these days, and while I try not to be too old man yelling at those them kids, this is a show the younger set who didn't grow up with it shoudl check out as it's absurd goodness. Brak started on space ghost and cartoon planet, but was too big to contain resulting in this lovely bit of nonsense that defined what an adult swims how not riffing on a cartoon could be. I mean it still did a little as it kept brak and zorak from space ghost but recast them as a loveable teen dummy and an agent of chaos.. the same people but in a new scenario that let them go hog wild. The show even got experimental as it went with batshit weirdness like Braklet Prince of Spaceland that puts the cast in hamlet (And dad as hamle'ts dad sans pants) or all I desire is you where the cast is suddenly in a soap opera). It's good stuff with a psycho musical, an election where Dad claims his opponent is killing pets with pet bombs nad fails the instant he actually has to debate, and of course
Tumblr media
Sealab 2021: Accidently put this one out of order but it might be my faviorite of this batch, with one other jockeying for the crown. Captain Murphy is my faviorite and while the show had a few classics after his actor Harry Goz's tragic passing, it never felt quite the same. Sealab 2021 is the first abriged series and a damn good one. While the show skidded at times, at it's peak this was just pure comedic chaos under the sea, and the cast bounced off each other amazingly. The show wasn't afraid to experiment either and out of the shows here, while brak dabbled later, seemed to do it the most and made it stand out: as early as the end of season 1 we got a waking life full episode take, an episode following the cast as actors on the show, my personal faviorite tinfins that takes this concept and applies it to the making of a movie, a backwards episode, and one repeating the same running gag with variations over and over. The show had a great ensemble, mostly anchored by goz and later his son, and cemented Adam Reed as a legend in adult comedy.
Home Movies: Coach McGurik. It was John Benjamins brekout: While Dr Katz had welcomed him tot he world, McGurik made him a star and would eventually lead him to bob and archer, and he's still one of his best roles, a sardonic drunk who bonds with kids, yet also should not be around them and once claimed BRENDON SMALL IS ON DRUGS and tried to get a bunch of children to do an intervention.
youtube
I could honestly quote McGuirk moments all day and he frankly stole the show half the time, to the point the bulk of later seasons has him in his own weird b-plot, from gambing on a boat with the host of his seminar, to buying a bunch of swords when drunk, to telling a bunch of kids to go upstairs in a hurricane because being in the same rooms mean they'll all bump into each other. The last one isn't a subplot, it's just comedy gold.
The show had an easy dry improved style: While they did put in scripts after the first season, it was still mostly "get to this point" and let Brendon Small, a voice acting and comedy legend in his own right, and co cook. The result is a funny show with detailed charcters: Narccisitc control freak at only the third grade brendon, entirely out of it jason, only sane woman till she isn't melissa and Brendon's mom Paula who alternates between voice of reason to her child and her life being a hurricane. It's one of the best shows Adult Swims ever made and they hit the jackpot pickign it up
Mission Hill: Gus. While the joke could easily be "GET IT THE GUY IS REALLY MANLY BUT HE'S GAYYYY" they let him go beyond that and while his queerness is integral to who he is, he's also funny> We also get that great subplot of a knife just.. jutting out of his shoulder for a whole episode. The show itself is pretty good and worth a revisit from me, a nice hipster's pardise. The odd couple coulld get boring but Andy and Kevin play off each other well: Andy does need to grow the hell up, and I like the reveal both of his friends, while also cooler than thou slackers.. do actually have stable jobs. not saying a 9 to 5 job is growing up, I don't have one, but more that andy needed to change as a person and the series lets him grow, while Kevin bursts out of his shella nd misconceptions. The show was too good to last and i'm sad the spinoff fell apart. It was fantastic.
Baby Blues: Carl. What could easily be just the more grumbly testorone guy to the goofy darryl is a pretty fun slob. The show itself was solid. Is it anything like the comic strip? Honestly not really, having read the strip both early and not: It does deal with the difficulties of having a baby (Something Zoey was for the early years of the strip), but it's more it's own thing and honestly finding baby blues mid, that's a good thing as the show baby blues is pretty solid. Nothing super standout, but still memorable enough to stick in the brain.
The Oblongs: Down in the Valley where the chemical spill. Pickles. it was, unbenownst to me my first experince with jean smart and it's a good one. This is a show i'll give another shot someday as I wasn't a huge fan as a kid but in hindsight. it's really good. not nearly as mean spirited as I thought.

I just finished rewatching Castlevania: Nocturne with a friend. And it's only upon rewatch that I have noticed how music is so powerful within the story. And I'm not just talking about Edouard's beautiful arias but also Annette's ancestral lullabies that she keeps close to her heart. These lullabies as sung by her mother was not only a bonding moment but an introduction to her roots and to her powers in their cultural roots. In the context of the story how a character reacts to music says a lot. Heck this is even true for the vampires who enjoy Edouard's performance or who enjoy the musicians in the Cheateau. For the latter group while we don't see everyone's reactions we know that they must have enjoyed it enough to not kill them. And we can infer later on by how the wife of the Marquis was mourning her husband when he later dies. This doesn't excuse her actions of killing innocent people but her despair was a strong contrast to the reactions of Drolta and one her head henchman. Later on we see that Edouard's singing annoys both Erzabeth Bathory and Drolta which may indicate that they have either lost their souls or if they still had them it is now too far gone for anything but a downward spiral. Olrox may have no reaction to Edouard's song but he at the very least isn't annoyed with it the way Drolta and Erzabeth are. Which makes sense since he isn't one of the blind lackeys that just bows down to any new power. Experience has taught him that the words may change but the desire to conquer is still going to be a disaster - even if this time he is a part of what would have become the ruling class of Erzabeth's new world order.
And also as a Phan girl myself, I couldn't help but think that my fictional husband Erik, the Phantom of the Opera, would absolutely love this. I forgot where I read it but I remember reading how someone said in one of the novel adaptations of the story (I think it was the Kay version) wherein Christine offers to sing in exchange for something (I forgot what it was) and Erik quickly rejects that offer because music is so sacred to him that one should listen or participate in it out of true genuine love for it. And with the way music, especially through Edouard's songs is shown to be an incredible tool that it helped at least two new night creatures regain their humanity and that Edouard was still able to hold on to his that even as a night creature he could still touch the lives of others - I couldn't help but think of how Erik would highly appreciate it.
And also it's refreshing that this time a male opera singer is one of the main cast of characters since whenever an opera singer is in the cast it's usually a female (and usually a Soprano).

Ask game tag from @dare-g (hey thanks friend sorry this took forever lmao :3)
Last Song You Listened To:
Other than the songs I posted just before this, I've had this one man project called KidMotor on repeat. Total random discovery and I love it. Every EP is different but I'm really into 777 Lives, this art student kid from Vancouver with family originally from Mexico captures the sound of sun bleached west coast post-punk in one song and transitions seamlessly into some ambient dark synthwave in another. I really really really recommend listening to every project on his bandcamp.
Last Movie You Watched: Recently rewatched the original 1976 Assault On Precinct 13 by John Carpenter. I can't get enough of that score.
Currently Watching: I honestly don't watch many new shows or much of anything really unless it's Sopranos or The Wire for the 100th time lmao so it's a lot of youtube, currently a compilation of the Super Best Friends L.A. Noir let's play on in the background every now and then.
Other Things You've Watched This Year: Ah see above for my boring answer lmao. OH! FUNNY CONNECTION I saw the latest Tom Cruise Mission Impossible movie with my dad the last time I visited home and it happened to be in the 3 screen theater :^)
Currently Reading: Forever Words - The Unknown Poems by Johnny Cash
Currently Listening To: at this very moment, Glycerine by Bush on repeat. In a general sense, been looking for and listening to underground lofi black metal projects and the like.
Currently Working On: Uhhhh I'm kinda between projects atm I guess. A few weeks ago I finished an activity/sensory board for my niece and nephew. My buddies and I are co-opping Dead Island 2 if that counts.
Current Obsession: Now that my pc is up and running again I'd like to try to get back into mixing vaporwave/mallsoft again and potentially making videos to go along with it. And my leopard gecko Godzilla :3
Tagging folks do it if you wanna no pressure <3

For the last five or six years, I've mostly stopped watching new media. I play video games (mostly indies plus Baldur's Gate), watch streamers I like (shout out to Loading Ready Run, ArbitorIan), and rewatch old stuff I know is good. I basically developed the rule of not watching/reading/playing anything until it's done. And even then, I let it sit for a bit. I still haven't finished Bojack or started The Expanse. And I finally figured out how to put my issue with modern media with it into words. I'm tired of interacting with stories that are being made up as they go along. Examples... shows that don't know when they're going to end so they keep having to make shit up (Agents of SHIELD, Supernatural). I don't like things not knowing where they're going and having a coherent plan to get there (MCU, Agents of SHIELD, Game of Thrones). I don't want different people telling the same story but not agreeing at all on what's important or what they want to do (Star Wars, MCU, American Gods, Game of Thrones). Want some examples of -not- this? Bojack Horseman. The Good Place. Breaking Bad. The Sopranos. Chernobyl. Baldur's Gate 3. Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. I want stories with a vision. With a goal. With characters who have an arc with actual cathartic payoff, or at least a consistent and meaningful part in the story. Shows with a purpose besides just... more of it because they got the money to do it. And like... you wanna do monster-of-the-week? Fucking do it, man. I enjoy those shows and we have precious few of them anymore. Otherwise it just feels like a lazy TTRPG where the DM doesn't know if the group will stay together or not or who's going to show up to play week to week.

The Wire: The Verdict
Umm
Maybe the real wire was the friends we made along the way
I don’t have a lot to say about this show because, as I have said before, I was usually too busy trying to just keep up with what was happening to have brain cells left over for deep thoughts. As I said in that other post, it’s not really a character-driven show, which is why I could never quite fall in love with it. I would have enjoyed it more if we got to spend more time really getting to know the characters, but it’s just not that kind of show. Regardless, even I can tell that it’s an absolutely brilliant work of art, even if I don’t have appropriately brilliant things to say about it.
Favorite character: Probably Omar? It’s hard to choose, because again, I didn’t get to know most of the characters as well as I would have liked, but I’m such a sucker for the Robin Hood thing Omar has got going on.
Other faves, in no particular order: Stringer (I missed him soooo much in the last two seasons), Freamon (I love when he does his little wood carvings), Pearlman (ginger <3), D’Angelo, Michael and Duquan (package deal; their friendship was one of the most poignant things in the whole show), Bodie, Marlo, McNulty (I would hate him in real life but he’s so entertaining, plus he’s one of the only characters I felt I truly got to know)
Tentative ranking of how much I enjoyed the seasons: 5, 1, 3, 4, 2
I was going to put 3 lower on the list because I didn't care much about the political stuff, but then I remembered that s3 is when the Stringer/Avon dynamic gets really interesting, and that was one of my favorite parts of the whole show.
I 100% see why Black Sails gets compared to this show so often! I’m considering reviving my Every Show Is Black Sails gif series because of The Wire. The problem is, there are SO many parallels, I wouldn’t even know where to start giffing. I would probably have to rewatch The Wire first.
Speaking of which, for much of the show, I was thinking, okay, I’m glad I’m watching this, it’s really good, but I doubt I’ll ever rewatch it from start to finish because I just don’t think I have the motivation for that. But by the time I finished the finale last night, it had won me over enough that now I think I can see myself doing a complete rewatch one day. I’m sure it REALLY rewards rewatching, more so than the average show.
Getting back to the topic of Black Sails—a story is literally true, a story is literally untrue, as time extends it LITERALLY matters less and less! Part of the reason I enjoyed s5 the most was that the plot was a little more over-the-top which kept my stupid little brain entertained, but part of it was also that the theme of truth/untruth and storytelling really came to a head in the final season, and that’s one of my favorite themes a story can have. I mean, by the end, the operations of the police department, the city government, and the newspaper are all basically untethered from material reality, and most of the characters are aware of this, but they can’t do anything about it, because the story has taken on a life of its own, and what could be realer than that? God, that’s like catnip to me. (Also, Scott is such a funny character. I want to punch him so bad.)
I LOVE that the show ended with a montage. I’m such a sucker for montages. I think all of the last three seasons ended with montages? God I love that. I love montages. Every single time.
You know how when you finish something on a streaming service, it recommends something to watch next? Guess what HBO Max suggested I watch after The Wire? That’s right, The Sopranos! I was soooo tempted to dive right into a Sopranos rewatch. I didn’t, because I’m not quite ready yet, but I think I’m close, because the last few episodes of The Wire managed to distract me from The Sopranos ever so slightly, which helped me to calm down about The Sopranos ever so slightly. I’m not quite calm enough, but I think I will be soon.
I had a dream a few nights ago that I visited a haunted house, and there was a scene in the plot of the haunted house that took place in a high school, and Michael was a performer in that scene. I don’t mean that Tristan Wilds the actor was an actor in the haunted house, I mean that Michael Lee the character was an actor in the haunted house. I’d like to think that that’s canon. Actually, yeah, I just decided that the real canon truth was revealed to me in this dream. After the finale, Michael aborts his career as Omar 2.0 to pursue his true calling as a haunted house performer.
I grade shows first and foremost on my own personal feelings, and I didn’t enjoy The Wire quite enough to give it an A or A+, but it’s simply too good to give it anything below the A range. So, overall grade: A-

anything you’ve been watching/reading lately that you’d recommend? i think you have stellar taste in media (aka it often matches mine lol) so am curious! hope you feel better soon 💖
Ummmm yes, love this ask!!! (Also I’m so flattered đŸ„° you have great taste as well btw)
Books:
Mo Ryan’s Burn It Down! If you’re at all interested in the entertainment industry and how it all gets made, this is basically required reading
the Succession script books (pricey but personally worth it)
I just finished Jill Gutowitz’s Girls Can Kiss Now and felt very seen, a wee bit too relatable
And I’m currently also reading Ann Patchett’s This is the Story of a Happy Marriage, which is a great book for my fellow writers to read
Substack:
I’m a paid subscriber to Hunter Harris’ Hung Up newsletter and I’ve never once regretted it lol
Gotta shout out Dracula Daily as well as the one podcast I listen to rn, re: Dracula (I listen and read at the same time which is perfect for me lol)
Gilmore Women - a Gilmore Girls recap newsletter that talks about everything wrong with each episode lol. I sped through the first six seasons and now I’m depressed that I’m caught up lol
TV:
Minx s2 - it is on Starz which I know most people don’t have but this season has been EXCELLENT
Only Murders in the Building s3 - it’s like a comfort show for me at this point, despite being about murder it makes me feel so cozy. Nora Ephron vibes
The Bear s2 - everyone’s been talking about it already but I just finished and god it was GOOD
The Sopranos - everyone should be doing # Sopranos Sunday with me!!! It’s so fun!! This show is soooo good, really living up to the hype for me
Acapulco - really cute show, makes me wish I was still on vacation in Mexico
Poker Face - bring back standalone episodes like this!!! Bring back character actors doing incredible guest star roles!!!
The Other Two - just. It was the funniest show on TV. It really was. 30 Rock’s spiritual successor which is pretty much the highest praise I can give it
Movies:
Red Eye - I rewatched it after Oppenheimer and it really holds up. Fun, tight thriller that is only like an hour 20 lol. Also Brian Cox aka Logan Roy is in it (and Jayma Mays my beloved)
Theater Camp - as a Jewish theater kid who went to and/or worked at a summer camp every year of her life from ages 4-20, there was no way I wasn’t gonna like this
Mamma Mia series - obviously everyone on tumblr knows about these already but I made my family watch them with me for the Fourth of July and god if I could live in the world of any movie it’d be this one ❀
Man Up - very cute & fun British rom com I first discovered in college and rewatched this summer. Everyone has incredible comedic chemistry in this, and Lake Bell & Simon Pegg have great sexual chemistry as well (quite a lot of British faces who were nobodies when this was made who’ve gone on to bigger things - most notably Phoebe Waller-Bridge who’s only in a single scene)
X-Men: First Class - my favorite superhero movie ❀
Indiana Jones series - I rewatched the whole series and saw the new one in theaters this summer. The first and third are literal masterpieces. Second one is mean spirited and racist. Fourth actually has quite a bit of charm, but then it fell apart in the back half. The new one
woof. Nobody but Steven Spielberg should be allowed to direct Indy movies.
Asteroid City - the longer it’s been since I saw it, the more and more I think it might be Wes’ masterpiece
Past Lives - incredible. But I know you already know that one lol
Are You There God, It’s Me Margaret - perfect, perfect film.
The Other Guys - we need Adam McKay and Will Ferrell to get back together, the fate of studio comedies hangs on this (anyway this movie is hilarious - but also if hell is real Marky Mark is obviously gonna burn for all eternity)
Comedy:
John Mulaney: Baby J - I saw him do this special live when he was touring it and I’m mad he cut the FBI bit but he’s still got it
