rick and morty 6/10 spoilers / talk

i think like... a lot of this season was talking to the viewers as morty. Havent seen many people mention this aspect to it so I wanted to ramble lol I feel like most of season 6 was just set up yeah... people were saying how inconsistent the show was getting, and they decided to REALLY DRIVE IN CONSISTENCY bringing up old bits like sleepy gary and the butter robot. just a lot of the writers having fun yet also driving forward each character, as each character got their own ep this season directly, to add them all back to relevancy a bit more bc the show does, revolve around rick and morty. so it did that a little less this season

im all over the place here sorry lol I still need to recover from this last college semester lmao

ok so the main point i wanted to make, was in 'story train 2' aka the uh. the episode with Campbell that harmon DEFINITELY wrote. there's a point where rick points at the camera but is talking to morty and he was like 'youre what matters' to the camera aka the viewers. and the last scene in 6/10 reminded me of THAT. his ramble that he always does, the rick and morty 100 years rant, it was the writers talking to us, the viewers.

you wanted this. you wanted the dark backstory, you wanted the serialization and the focus on other character arcs. you wanted to see rick change. and here, now you get it all! you get what you wanted despite the warnings. idk I was baked when I saw the ep, I've gotta do a season rewatch and then a series rewatch again to trace it, but it felt DIRECT. that scene was the writers talking to the viewers. a lot of the season was, really? with the story cycle episode and jerrys internet famous arc 'when they start looking for shit to hate you for that's how you know you made it' yeah that feels like a harmon line for sure. i know there was a lot of internal conflict of what they wanted the show to be, but they seem pleased with what they settled on. this year alone harmon and roiland said that the show could easily go on for 1000 episodes. if one arc gets finished, if one UNIVERSE gets finished, they've created a setup that they can exhaust forever. they always wanted to be like the simpsons and tbh I hope they get a long run

but im VERY VERY excited theyre taking this turn, story wise, writers aside. its honestly the best way they've could have gone, I remember seeing the reveals and being like :] cus yeah. we got rick developing. we got rick regressing! we got to see more of the other characters, id say we got very nice storylines as well. i enjoyed it all a lot and I am very scared-excited for season 7. its interesting to see how many mixed reviews they get and how much bad writing criticism when I can literally trace their thought process for it... as this season showed rick trying to improve and grain mortys trust and respect, the writers were saying the same to the viewers. in a similar sense, as rick showed morty that he would always be rick and to watch what you wish for, the writers were doing the same. no more silly random adventures, were going full canon and you wanted this.

I think it's a little more complicated bc the immortality thing also could definitely b Dreamcore and while he's connected 2 the earth and generally regarded with the animosity of a serial killer he doesn't have the interpersonal swag. Artemy is not Dreamcoded he doesn't deserve this. We have to do surgery on the healers

I think Ranboo and Wilbur r both roughly equal parts Clara and Daniil the duality thing is kind of a given (tho it does have to be a Specific Read of Clara+mirror Clara) but like in terms of the methodical Ranboo is definitely the most Facts And Logic out of the three of them... Like in my brain Wilbur has Clara's gloves and hat but Daniil's coat etc. I'm Warring over the way the Map Changes 4 all of them I feel like this will unlock the key points of who gets what Arcs here but I'm kinda stuck on unpicking it... I think tho that Artemy's final map makes the most sense for Ranboo Daniil's for Wilbur and Clara's for Dream and this is something I have to rotate in my brain a while longer I can't do it rn but I think this is the Theme Keys

tuesday again 8/9/22

this time next week i will be free from the video game data mines. do i have anything else lined up yet? no :)

listening jovian by artisan. i opened the wretched clock application to view a short film of a buff woman my sister procured for me, and this was in the first couple videos on the main page or whatever. a very cool jet set radio/cowboy bebop/future jazz sound with an elevator music interlude???!? i adore this. i want it to be out now.

so i went and listened to all his other stuff, which is very different. jovian is my favorite, big gustav horst The Planets suite vibes, mostly i think it sounds like a point-and-click adventure game about a generation ship with elves.

reading not far enough into The Thin Man by Dashiell Hammett to have real opinions, but i adore the movie so i have high hopes. this was one of my new year's eve movies- every new year's eve i start a new-to-me black and white movie around 1130 so im still watching it as it turns into the new year. the thin man (1934, dir Van Dyke) was one of those movies. top five black and white movie for me honestly

watching watched Angel and the Badman (1947, dir Grant). this one, like High Noon and Shane, succeed bc they don't super need to be a western. by that i mean the very barebones plot stands on its own. what a hopeful, if at times trite, little film!

any time we are not on a soundstage it feels like a movie from about a decade earlier, what with its shot and framing choices. like ENORMOUS serial vibes (like the types of movie Roy/Lee Pace does stunts for in The Fall) as people and horses scramble down various slopes to stirring music. people fall into some water from a height. there's a plot relevant waterfall. that kind of thing. did like this bit very much, which is far, far less homoerotic in context. this was a perfectly adequate little movie but i don't feel the need to ever rewatch it

how'd i come across this: dunno. definitely not one i watched with my dad growing up. i think it keeps popping up as like a Good American Western and i want to encourage my library to add more westerns to their streaming service.

playing hey remember when i said i liked playing that goofy little zombie mobile game state of survival bc i didn't have to talk to anyone in order to do the multiplayer part? well that little group of players dissolved, and holy fucking shit everyone on the specific server i am on is fucking insane. it's not a baby gamer thing bc a lot of people are talking about their spouses, and it's not even really a classic gamer toxicity thing, there's just so much fucking catty backstabbing? absolutely exhausting. i don't seem to be able to change servers :( but i have been playing this on and off for about a month and bought exactly one two dollar "unlock something permanently" slot so it's not a huge loss if i need to find a new "make the numbers go up" game. absolutely bizarre little player ecosystem in this game tho.

also i don't like saying that i impulse bought a pet, bc i do have a perfectly good cycled ten gallon tank, it's just that the betta fish i walked out of the store with is So Small and cannot be in the ten gallon tank. i need to be able to find it and make sure it's eating. this has unlocked a sidequest of Locate Brine Shrimp (100x) because this tiny creature does not recognize crushed pellets as food and is too small for finely chopped bloodworms. i am hoping that in about 24h it WILL recognize crushed pellets as food and is simply stressed the fuck out. which, fair.

last series: ive been rewatching a lot of old school Dragon Ball lately lol. I love Toriyama’s old school pre-Z artstlye so much, its so cute-looking 🥺

last movie: i saw Scream last night with my bf @unicornlamps for the first time since i was 13, i really enjoyed it for the most part! all the characters are really memorable for a 90’s slasher movie, i especially enjoyed Matthew Lillard’s performance, he’s honestly been really good in every movie ive seen him in and i genuinely think he’s an underrated actor. he also looks really cute in a bloody sweater. I’m honestly a little shaky on how I feel about the implementation of metatexual elements in the plot, I think its fun for the most part, but once they start doing it during really serious scenes I’m like “this is a bit much”. There’s a part where the main girl is having a serious conversation with her obviously not-a-serial-killer boyfriend about how her life has kinda been crumbling over the last year and one of the first thing she says about it is “its like The Bad Seed or something” and it made me realize all at once how 40% of the dialouge in this movie is “man this is like [x]”. It’s sorta meant to be dumb on purpose but I cant help but think its a bit overkill at points.

sweet, savory, or spicy: i dont think i have a preference honestly! usually what makes or breaks a food to me is like, texture, but i guess if i had to say which one i consistently go for i guess sweet?

-UNPOPULAR OPINION : "you're a cop!" nancy + cops - mcginnis and rawley fuck her over/view her sexually/as competition and let her down along with karen- but she likes lisbeth who is the opposite, suspected her from the beginning due to the previous people "betraying" her (she and the chief start this show in an odd place with zero trust bc she thinks she can do it better) but lisbeth passes the test; lisbeth is willing to bargain with them and doesnt question where they got the hudsons info. now nancy does not hesitate to call lisbeth for the murder of owen (ie the hand prints) and going after josh on the roof, even tells her the blunt truth about calling the agleaca (lisbeth is NOT woke to the supernatural btw) "use me" she does want to work with police, which she is infamous for not doing previously, because of her connection to bess? because they were men? karen didnt have enough power, or didnt take her seriously? what makes lisbeth so trustworthy? or is it only nancys desire to avenge owen? but she just didnt trust the other cops to get the job done- maybe she still doesnt, but at least she trusts lisbeth for the time as an authority figure when all others have failed. all cops (karen, chief and rawley) in nancy's trust lose her respect/secrets out but Lisbeth has to prove her worth to get in. maybe its something about engaging w women. i mean women can still fail her of course (lucy kind of, kate+reveal, karen) but in terms of feminist themes, the show capitalizes on these exchanges between women for the living and the dead: ghosts/demons who are male (ie simon) are pure evil (think "mr roper" at the asylum being in particular focus when it was the whole family who died) but something like the agleaca (of human origin) is made to be a sympathetic case/highlighting how women have suffered historically and are take revenge as ghosts, able to find power in death that they did not have in life, and circling back to nancy trying to give them previously denied justice through working with other women.
