I feel like I’ve been hyperfixating on HTTYD too much for a long time that it doesn’t feel as fun falling in love with it as it used to be. Any advice on how to deal with that?

I'm sorry that it's taken me weeks to respond to you. I've been thinking about you and what you've said, and I've wanted to say the right thing to you. This probably still isn't the right thing (too wordy, my norm), but I hope the word dump finds you or others well.

This one's hard. I think we tackle hyperfixations differently. Personally, while bittersweet, I think a person shouldn't force themselves into a position that is no longer natural. I should be enthusiastic about something because I'm enthusiastic about something, not because I'm used to being enthusiastic about something. There is so much to be joyous about in the world, and I'm confident I'll find something to scream about - even if the target of what I scream about changes. Since I started this blog in 2014, I've charged through deep passions in probably 12-20 things, and re-returned to some things 2-3 times (not all of which I posted about, but all of which took me for a good ride).

This blog, in some ways, is an artifact of me trying to be enthusiastic about something because I felt expected to be enthusiastic about something. I'm historically not accustomed to retaining something- I like to come in, come out, come back in! Sometimes that 'trying' works, and retaining a sense of community with fandom perpetuates the joy. Other times, it can feel like a chore or like a disappointment. Where are you in the mix? I hella understand craving an old joy and not wanting to let it go, yearning for it badly, but if it's drawing from an empty well, no matter how many times you lower the bucket, you won't get the water to fill your thirst.

I know some people stick to very few hyperfixations for life. Other people, like me, bounce around. If you have wandering eyes, I say let them. HTTYD won't leave. HTTYD will be part of your heart and poke at you when you need it to most. It will always be right around the corner for you to keep returning to, again and again, when your actual impulse drives it, rather than you forcing today's feelings to be the same as yesterday.

On the contrary, if you still are finding joy - just not as much as before - that can be perfectly healthy and you can still maintain a pleasurable deep interest in it. I think many of us have a honeymoon period that ends. But if friends say the right keywords, or a new trailer comes out, or you run across meta that sparks at your strongest opinions, you find that energy rush anew. And a settled love, while not as much of a rush as the honeymoon period, can be extremely fun, too. I'm at a settled love for most of my fandoms - it's not going to make me fly out of my seat anymore, but by golly, a calm love is pretty dang fun, too, right? If you can find joy in the calm love, contentment, all the power to you, and I think that's where settling into HTTYD long-term works best.

There are ways to keep things feeling fresh, pending on personal interests: fanfiction, fanart, community conversations, or, my personal favorite, delving into increasingly obscure lore and sources - ergo always something new to educate myself on and be surprised on. But ultimately, I think it's gonna come down to taking actions that mirror what your gut's already telling you.

This isn't intended to sound in any way defeatist, but hopeful for any path you take. Maybe this isn't the answer you expected, but I believe you can find a fun ride. Period. Anywhere it's best to take you. XD

oh boy….. what a can of worms… 

purity shipping culture is rubbish, and when i see people act like saying you ship something means you condone it or think it’s completely pure and healthy it drives me absolutely up the wall ghkfdjhgjkfdg. i think there’s value in discussing what’s healthy and what’s not, bc god was i surrounded by a shit tonne of abuse tactics & red flags crap older people where selling to me as normal and fine, or encouraging stuff that i really wish an adult had said to me “hey, i think venting this stuff out is great and i’m here to talk if you want, but please know this isn’t the be all & end of what relationships truly are” instead of justifying every dumb thought my angsty teenage brain came up with. but whenever you denounce purity shipping culture ppl come out of the fucking woodwork to be like “exactly, that’s why i’m totally allowed to ship this 13 yr with a whole ass adult and it’s totally fine :) i would never do it in real life and i’m not responsible for platforming pedophiles who are grooming kids in fandom just bc i romanticise it” no fuck off. i know people, especially young people, and especially in echo chambers like tumblr can only see in black and white but there is some sort of middle ground. 

also i don’t get canon shipping culture? h*ccstrid is my main example cause it’s my most active fandom but you see these absolutely wild intense shit in most fandoms and get dramatic sentences like “ h*ccstrid’s the most beautiful perfect thing ever and anyone who thinks otherwise is a poopyhead” and it’s like? okay? what do you like about it? and 90% of the time it’s like “well it’s canon” or *lists things deblois has said about it* or straight up stuff that’s like. that’s not actually happening/there and it’s just like…  do you like this bc you see something worthwhile or bc it’s canon? cause it feels like it’s just cause it’s canon. idk i think it might be bc im not a str8 and so ultimately those tiny moments of interaction are a million times more satisfying to me than blatant forced hetero romances. i don’t like being told by my media who to ship. i like coming to the conclusion myself, but i’m guessing that’s not that same for most ppl at all. canon ship culture is so obnoxious too like, i’m out here minding my own business liking my tiny obscure ship and sometimes making posts on my own blog abt how i dont like the canon ship and h*ccstriders since like. … 2012 have been inserting themselves into my blog and making a big deal and vaguing me on other blogs, and writing big vents about my existence and sending me death threats and suicide baiting and causing drama and it’s just like. your ship is canon? 98% of the fandom ships it but what you’re still so bored with all that content that you need to do this? 

also 👀👀👀 if u know someone likes h*ccstrid you can guess with 100% accuracy their ships from other shows they like. and even if you haven’t seen the pattern before when it happens to you, you’ll groan and be like “of Course ugh fjkhskjfhgfg”

Current Projects:

Prismtale (Mondays): An Undertale AU involving NPCs and multiverse travelling. Multi-chapter comic and ongoing.

Mistbreak (Tuesdays): A Steven Universe AU with about 5 pages left of the comic. Then it will become an ask/drabble/design blog.

Flicker of a Neon Soul (Wednesdays): An Undertale AU where monsters have colored soul traits and humans have white soul traits. 10+ chaptered comic with many plans and plot.

Taffy and Steven (Thursdays): A Steven Universe where Steven and his gem are split into different people and Taffy is a wholesome boyo. One page left of the comic, then will become an ask/edit blog with occasional comics.

Future Fandom Projects:

Pokemon Nuzlocke Comics: Multiple regions and an overarching plot. I need to finish playing and writing the first arc before starting the comic. (long term)

Who I Am: A Pokemon comic where James from Team Rocket is a were-pokemon. I need to rewrite it first. About 7 to 8 chapters. (medium length)

Other Undertale AUs: Certain AUs will be revealed in Prismtale and turn into side blogs, and others will be one time comics. (varies)

Future Original Projects:

Phantulfurs: A comic about teens with powers to see creatures no one else can. I’ve rewritten the first chapter multiple times, but I need to really write it out before starting the comic. About ten arcs. (long term)

Skryculars: A sequel to the above story. (medium length)

The Journeyers: A multi-book series with my cousin. About ten books. Involves animals, powers, and romance. Won’t give information beyond that. (long term)

Unnamed Animated Series: Still need to design the two main characters, but they’ll travel through many worlds from my dream world. (long term youtube series)

Unnamed Wings Story: Decided many many characters for a high school story with wings. Lots of diversity and LGBTQ. Problem is I don’t like writing high school stories and have no plot. ;^; (medium? short?)

Unnamed Long Term Comic: A story about a space girl with wings, a nonbinary person that can shapeshift and communicate with animals, twins with water and plant powers, and an angsty wholesome skeleton bean. No plot yet. (long term)

(keep in mind many of these I wrote the descriptions for years ago or based off of dreams.)

“Orphan Dog” and “Martha’s Pack” An orphan finds out she can talk to dogs and realizes they are the key to finding her missing parents. (Wrote when I was 8, rewrote partially when I was 13. So very cheezy. Would be even cheezier if I didn’t rewrite it, but still drew quality serious art XD.)

“The Agency” A girl named Jill has secrets. Major secrets. For one, she can turn into any animal at will including extinct, Fantasy, or hybrids. Don’t forget that she can also turn invisible and do telepathy. (Not to mention she runs an entire secret animal spy community…) When her best friend and spy ally, Izabella the opossum, goes missing, she must find what it means to be a true friend and showing that it’s what’s inside that counts. (Actually liked this one too. Even if it’s also cheezy.)

1. “Moos” A boy is adopted by cows and is granted the power to understand animals and turn into a cow.

2. “Moos: Vile Meat” Hoover is back and he must defeat the evil Haystack, a human entrapping calfs in little domes for eternity.

3. “Moos: Cold Cuts” Hoover finds a new ally, one who creates...snow?

4. “Moos: Wakey Wakey Eggs and Bakey” Haystack is back and Hoover and his friends must defeat him before he turns all pigs into stone. (Cheezy series?)

“Extraordinaries” Emma, her friend, Millie, her brother, Clark, and her dog, Charlie, have to travel to a faraway land to save Emma’s mother, who has been poisoned. Along the way Emma and the team must find how to deal with their newfound powers of Imagination. (This one was also pretty good! A story from Nanowrimo a few years ago.)

“The Hummingbird Did It” A hummingbird turns a lazy boy into a dog. The boy must venture across country to find the cure. (Was kinda boring and just me having fun with google maps lol.)

“Sunshine and Rainbows” A girl is taken to another world by rainbow dust and must find her way back to Earth. (Can’t actually remember this one.)

“Nature’s Lifeforce” A boy and girl are given the power to turn into any woodland creature and talk to trees. (Also can’t remember, but sounds cool.)

“Ravens” A girl named Hannah, a boy named Billy, a boy named Cameron, a girl named Lyla, and a boy named Clark, among other students, have their wishes come true. This creates a problem as Cameron becomes a dog, Lyla becomes a cat and Hannah and Billy become ravens. They fix the problem for everyone except Hannah and Billy, but embark on an adventure to find the scientist who can help them. (Based on a dream, I think.)

“Dragon wings” Hiccup and Toothless accidentally sit down someplace weird. They switch bodies and Toothless claims to have heard someone press a button. (ASDFGHJKL WHAT?! HTTYD short story)

“Melody Dreambubble” A weird new pony arrives in Ponyville. Twilight is curious to find that she has no Cutie Mark, was raised by wolves, and bears mysterious powers. (My Little Pony, kinda self insert, short story)

“Eyes of Gold/The Tower” A Fan Fiction based on The Ever Afters series and two stories rolled into one. Rory finds that her two best friends have been poisoned by a new dragon species/As Rory is about to enter a tower to save Chase a random girl shows up out of nowhere and has a weird habit of annoying Adelaide. (Was my first ever self insert? And based on a book series unlike the rest? Cool! Oh I even wrote ten whole pages! Neat. Featuring a girl chasing a dragon with a bedpan!)

“Roadkill” A man purposely runs over a deer on a freeway. The deer’s best friend curses the man, later to regret it because he has to undo the curse himself. (Lol, this was interesting.)

“Melissa and Steven Started a Food Fight” A completely random book that takes the characters through an adventure of explosions, unicorns, and talking squirrels. (Used a random prompt generator. Very random. And funny.)

“Before it’s Gone” A snooty teen crashes in her car and finds a surprise when she wakes up. (Oh yeah, another old story. She turned into a dog and none of the other dogs believed her.)

“The Unicorn Killer” A short story about poachers and Julia. (Yep. Short story.)

1. “Feathers of Gold” A logical young bird griffin, Gabriel, wants to find a way to stop to war between bird and lion in his land, Genetica.

2. “Scales of Emerald” A shy young dragon, Emmie, tries to keep her land, Reptilia, from destruction.

3. “Hair of Crystal” A brave young unicorn, Crystal, tries to find a way to join together the leaders of the land of Equinsta.

4. “Flames of Ruby” A vain young phoenix, Flaxter, tries to capture the eyes of girls. Taken place in the land of Flamia.

5. “Gems Unite” Gabriel, Emmie, Crystal, and Flaxter find out they are The Gems, the only ones who can save their world, Animagicia, from the beings, called Humurns, that are trying to destroy it. They must come together and find who they truly are. (Might have fun with this series. I’ve always loved mythical animals.)

“The Distance from Sam” An 8 year-old St. Bernard named Barry, a 3 year-old Golden Retriever named Mick, and a 1 year-old Sheltie named Sandy set off to return to their owner Sam, after being kidnapped and sent across country. (Kinda like Homeward Bound. Came in mind when I saw these three dogs alone by a street, no humans around.)

“The Skilled” Andy and Ashley(both fifteen) and their eight year-old siblings, twins Alex and Alexa, gain powers from the sewers. All: understand animals and fly, Andy: talk to toys, Ashley: speak to plants, Alex and Alexa: psychic powers. “I used to think my toys would come to life when I was gone. I guess I was right.”-Andy. Based on a dream. (Too many “A” names, oof. Also, toy Story much?)

“The Moon’s Eye” A teenage girl named April gets trapped under a snow drift and wakes up to be a wolf. A nearby wolf pack needs her aid and calls her The Mooneye, a changeling. (Cool. Cool.)

“Unusual Forces of Omnipotence” A woman and her horse are supposedly crushed by a U.F.O. When Tanaya wakes up she finds out she has super strong senses and can run as fast as her horse. Pluto the alien knows he’s going to be in trouble if his planet finds out he crash landed and accidentally gave a human the powers of her horse. He tries to fix it. Told from Tanaya, Sunray (the horse), and Pluto’s point of view. Based on a dream. (Sounds interesting! Title came from before I knew UFO was an acronym lol.)

“The Lawn” Unknown to humans, a yard full of statues come alive at night. There is an elk, two bears, four buffalo, a wolf, an eagle, three horses, a small boy, a moose, a bighorn sheep, and a rabbit. (Based on a real lawn I’d see on the way to school.)

“Dragon Eyes” Max has an ordinary life, until his family, him, and his three friends, Alice, Peter, and Samuel, are transported to another world. His parents are then kidnapped and they have to fight against an evil Mother Nature. Based on a dream. (Interesting. The dream was freaky.)

“Sweet Treat” Emily’s dad works at a candy factory, and one day she visits him and realizes his work is not all it seems… Based on a dream. (What? I don’t remember what was different about his work???)

“The Flight of the Supernatural” Randy thinks he is mostly a normal kid. Sure, he and his dad live inside a mountain, and sure, some flying species of human killed his mother, that doesn’t mean he can’t live normal life homeschooling and watching TV. But unfortunately, Randy’s life turns around when he finds out he can fly. Is his father telling the truth? Did his own species kill his mother? Based on a dream. (Actually REALLY loved this story.)

“Whispering Willow” A girl named Willow helps 20 wolf cubs escape a pet store and then is recruited by a zoo. Pretty soon all of the animals know her as Whisper. Based on a dream. (Cool. another animal whisperer.)

“The Invasion of Our Minds” Little black aliens invade Earth and only one person can stop them: Julia. Based on a dream. (Oh RIGHT! Yeah I remember that.)

“The Marble Island(Possibly a short story?)” Julia goes on a trip to a new marble island only to find the owner turns people into stone figurines. Based on a dream. (Links to the previous story, I think.)

“Have some candy!” Violet, an expert on strange occurrences, needs to help a group of people who mysteriously turned into animals after attempting to grab candy bars from a bin in a local store. Based on a dream. (More animal transformation.)

“The Guide to Mythical Creatures I Made Up” A guide to everything from the Mystic Melody to the Gollan. (I don’t remember either of their designs! :P )

“Trying to Get Back to Mom” Michael and Annabelle meet new friends, while they frantically try to reunite with their mother. (Don’t remember.)

“Surprise of the Future” Pearl travels to the future and has to fight her now-evil brother in his stone mansion. (Not Pearl from SU. Based on a dream.)

“All for You” A man has to overcome many obstacles, such as mermaids, yellow smoke wolves, and magic maps, to save the world and his girl. (Oh yeah, this was a cool one. Based on a song, but I can’t remember which one.)

“The Stranger at the Door” Keith and Amber have lived with their grandmother for many years, but now they live alone and nobody knows. Then a strange girl arrives at the door. She claims they will have to leave town within 2 hours or risk being stuck in a quarantine zone. There will be traffic jams and other hindrances, so it's best to leave right now without taking anything with you. Unsure about everything, including this strange girl, the teenage boy disagrees to the proposal, if all this turns out to be true, this choice will seem foolish. His younger sister does agree. But what if this strange girl can't be trusted. Or what if all this is an elaborate trap. How could an ordinary teenage girl and boy end up in a situation like this. Time to find out. (Oh, a quarantine story? How long ago was this? 2017 I think.)

“The Beginning of the Hybrid Brothers” A backstory that shines a light on how Ralph the Rat-Man and Dr. Discord came to be evil. (YES, MY TWO VILLAINS NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT BUT ARE STILL DEAR TO MY HEART HNNNNNNNG.)

“Unnamed but same as the blank” A girl named, _____, lives in a family of nine. She and her mother are the only ones who aren’t “Morhumals”, or people who can turn into one animal. After the twins mess-up and send a “Morhumals” hunter after them, it is up to ___ and her sister, ____ to rescue them.

“Song of the Siren” ____ is back after her fourteenth birthday. She finally has received her animal and must follow her family to the mythed Siren hideout.

real talk, i haven’t a clue what i’m supposed to be doing. 

i spent some time on tumblr a few years back, most of it searching for fanart or writing tropes i adored, but eventually i stopped checking in on things. i abandoned my old blog completely, and i haven’t given it a second thought until now. 

with quarantine keeping me at home, i’ve had the time to put together what i feel is a decent portfolio of content that i’m looking forward to sharing here--but before we get into that, i felt i should at least put an introduction out there.

I would just like to say something

It’s come to my attention that certain people who I thought I could trust in a group chat (lol apparently not) are going around spreading stuff to anti Newtina blogs to get them riled up about how “two faced” and shit we are.

How do I know this? Someone (who shall remain nameless) sent me these screenshots:

^This is an anon sent to a blog I’ve not only blocked but reported on numerous occasions. Looking forward to being exposed, anon, since on our servers we literally just post pictures of pets and talk about everyday life.

Now about the whole “artist” thing...honestly, I don’t need to defend myself because there’s nothing to defend. She harassed me, left rude messages on my Instagram and YouTube, and that’s that. She is now blocked on all of my social media accounts too. End of story. Did I say stuff about her in the vent channel of a discord? Yeah, because she started commenting crap on my Instagram and starting arguments with me in my DMs. End of.

The important thing, however, is that this drama? I ain’t here for it, peeps. I block and move on - holding grudges isn’t good for you and makes you bitter. Having said that, it’s not exactly nice for me anxiety-wise to know that people are chatting lies behind my back (among other worse things, including making sure I got fired from MuggleNet - aren’t you all lovely)

So here’s some things I want to make as clear as freaking possible to everyone who comes on my blog, whether you’re here to be my friend or to harass me:

Up until recently, I was a primarily Fantastic Beasts blog. In fact, before the giant purge of Dec 2018, I was on a totally different blog that I’d used since I was 13. (- @newt-loves-tina for anyone curious)

I did email about getting it back but now? I’m really not bothered. I love my new blog I’ve created.

I’m no longer as active in the Beasts fandom. Like at all. Sure, I reblog the odd thing, maybe add a headcanon or post here and there, but I’m NOT in the fandom like I was. In fact, I’m barely in it nowadays because of the fandom toxicity (yikes)

I don’t know how much further away from being a Beasts blog I can get now - my username is no longer Beasts, there’s no Beasts profile pic/header and there’s no mention of it in my blog title/info. I seriously don’t know how else to say “I’m not that into it right now”.

There are many, many, many reasons I’m no longer an active fic writer or member for the Fantastic Beasts fandom, and that is the fandom itself. It’s a horrible environment to be in and I recognized that a) I wasn’t enjoying it anymore and b) I wasn’t a good person while I was in the fandom as intensely as I was.

That’s not to say I don’t still like the films - I love the films, and I’ve spoken before about how much they’ve helped me. But it’s just the actual online part of it is fucking horrendous, and I am NOT here for it.

It’s not just the anti Newtina squad - clearly, judging by the fact there’s a mole on one of the Beasts servers I’m a part of (and which I’m rarely active on, most of the time), it’s people who are also Newtina shippers. I get along with people who ship Newtina, I get along with people who don’t...it’s not like I single out my followers/friends and demand they ship it. Honestly, ship and let ship!

I have never, not once, claimed to be perfect or to have the only right opinion. I’m literally just a 21 year old dork with a dumb blog that talks too much about HTTYD nowadays. I say shit that I later regret and I learn from it. But it is my blog, and I feel that I’m entitled to post my opinion about ships/stuff on it.

I said this both here and on my old blog but I know I did bad things, and I was a horrible person to be around for a while. I realized that, apologized, and tried to move on the best I could. Having said that, I don’t think it warrants having SEVERAL blogs set up exclusively to point out every wrong thing I ever did, nor to go around talking behind my back. It’s also ridiculous that MANY things I did were either taken out of context (for example, getting mad because someone told me to kill myself after my nan died - shouldn’t have lost my temper, agreed, but you can kinda see why I blew up) or brought up over a year after they were said. And as I said, some of those twisted things got me fired from a job at MuggleNet (though to be fair, I’m glad I don’t work for them now - that’s a whole other thing though).

If you have an issue with me, either DM me or block me - it’s really that simple, and saves argument from both sides. This is exactly why I left the FBAWTFT fandom, at least for now, because it’s a toxic environment all around and really does my mental health no good at all.

Other than that, I don’t know what y’all want from me. I’ve already apologized to the people I’ve hurt, left the fandom and moved on, so I literally can’t do much else.

James just has this talent to give every song he sings so many emotions, it’s incredible. My fave songs from him are Impossible and Train Wreck (makes me cry every time). So I'm kind of curious: what's it like for everyone else when writing fic or coming up with head canons and stuff?

Cause for me, it goes kind of like this:

Why do you do this brain? Why, there's so much other stuff to do, why start a New Thing? Besides, that explains nothing. This is obviously an S.A.O. Rip-off crossover... cross under? Just, moved country and genre. Besides-

Magical Dimension Online

To celebrate the launch of Virtual Reality, several games are going online simultaneously around the globe, a different game for every country. In Australia, it's H2O: Oceania Online, in Japan, Sword Art. (and somewhere else it's Archipelago of Dragons/HTTYD Online)

America will be the first country to launch Magical Dimension Online, and ten thousand lucky players will get to pay a week before anyone else, with the added bonus of exclusive Primary Launch content.

Laurel is a beta tester, on the day of the national launch, she logs in, but something goes weird with her beta-data.

Instead of Daphne, she awakens as Bloom.

That... that doesn't actually help brain. Besides, now you'll have to change the whole plot line.

And obviously 10,000 people won't fit in Alfea-

Ok, so ten thousand players, stuck in a death game version of Winx Club. Obviously the Winx Club and close friends have to be Players, and if Bloom is a Beta Tester, surely the others should be too?

But then, why haven't their test data files gone weird... unless they have.

Okay so, there are schools all over the magical dimension, and players get randomly assigned to their schools based on character class, planetary affiliation etc, etc.

The Official Launch will obviously have to cover the canon show era, but the beta test... Oohh, what if the Beta Test officially set the recent history for the Official game. Like the ultimate New Game+/New Character in and Old Campaign.

So Bloom used to be Daphne, but what about the other girls... I want to include Roxy... If I make the others... okay, so if the Winx Club's old avatars are now the NPC parents of their new avatars??? (except for Bloom) Or maybe some of them were just the guardian fairies of their home worlds.

Maybe Stella used to be one of the Nine Nymphs with Bloom/Daphne, and came from Solaria, which is why she ended up as the Princess of Solaria this time? And why she ended up being the one to run into Bloom on Earth? (meh, I'll figure it out later.)

So Roxy would have been Morgana? (Or maybe Nebula?) Oh, crap, what about Selina, do I include her? And what about Diaspro and Mirta, I really want Mirta... (mirta was a witch who became a fair, like faragonda, selina is a witch.) Oh snap! What if Mirta and Selina were Faragonda and Griffin in the Beta?!

Okay, so why the whole shuffle? Obviously, if the new game is the future of the Beta, then Daphne would have done a sacrificial play in the final boss fight of the old game (Domino vs The Ancestral Witches.) Maybe an AI managed to escape the purge of Assistant AIs by hiding in Player Data. (like when cardinal blocked off the mental health programs from counselling the players in SAO??) And that caused a cascade of various Beta Test files being reallocated to NPC roles.

(I'll need to tweak the earning methods for various Fairy Forms, IE. Charmix: requirements in canon: facing a personal flaw. How would the system measure that? It couldn't, not really... so earning the basic form: have magic, be fairy class, learn transformation enchantment ie 'magic winx!' Charmix: have Basic Form lvl **, have bonded pixie companion, transformation enchantment, ???)

The schools are basically ongoing tutorials for the game, teaching Players the basics, giving them a few basic spells or abilities and then letting them out into the Dimension. (the better the players do in 'classes' the better their ability bonuses?) (hidden spells and abilities in the schools, quests from teachers (exams and stuff).)

Armour. Oh crap, with the fairy and witch transformations, having visible armour isn't really... uh... okay so, like glyphs and... no, uh... OH! civilian clothes carry armour bonus, and that carries over when the transformations happen.

Okay. So. In the Beta, which was a proper job for the beta testers and went for several months, 'Laurel' played as Daphne, Stella may or may not have been in her party as someone else.

During the final month of the Beta, Boss Fights started happening on a massive scale, one to every planet it seemed like. Domino was besieged by the Ancestral Witches (Valtor... wasn't there, he and Darkar are super old and have been sleeping for ages. The Ancestral witches are also super old, but they were awakened near the start of the Beta and caused all the other boss fights to happen across the Dimension. Including) The Wizards of the Black Circle attacked the Fairies of Earth... (shit, no, that doesn't fit with a sensible time line... So Roxy can't be formerly Morgana... What if we make her Eldora? A member of the company of light who retired to Earth, then the only massive Boss Fight could be the Siege of Domino? Yeah, that'd work... I think.)

So, Daphne does Sacrificial Play during the Siege of Domino, ends up with a status ailment that leaves her... kinda ghosty, and the Beta ends.

Between the Beta and the Official Launch, at least one AI intended for Mental Health counselling (or something) discovers hidden programming which causes IRL Perma-Death, and tries to talk to someone about it, only, the AIs start getting locked down or deleted. One AI manages to hide themselves in Player Data, causing a small cascade in the beta files, so several of the beta testers have to reconfigure their avatars, with echoes of their old avatars, who are now NPS (and AIs).

'Bloom' spawns on Earth, along side Selina and Roxy, who have no idea what's going on, or why they're in Gardenia instead of their chosen home worlds.

Bloom has a bunny, Kiko, who shares the same name as her former avatar's Daphne's Bonded Pixie. The girls realise something is glitching in the game and try to log out, only to realise there's no logout option anymore.

Choosing to combine their limited magical reserves, the girls manage to perform a search spell to locate the nearest source of magic, trying to find a portal to the Magical Dimension.

Instead the find Stella fighting an Ogre and a bunch of ghouls.

Having played the beta, they'd know the transformation enchantment (transchantment?), transform and help Stella, who they are surprised to realise isn't an NPC who's part of a special content quest, but a Player, who is just as confused as the rest of them. (and toting an SS Rank Magical Artefact.)

(The Dragon Fire would be SS rank as well, but having that as a power option is silly, so... it's a quest reward for a very complex quest line that took 'Daphne' the entire Beta to complete. Even though it somehow transferred the prize (???Title: Vessel of the Dragon Fire???) to her Bloom avatar... oh! If one then the other! That's how Stella got the Ring of Solaria, it was a similarly difficult quest line (one player can complete per server type rare) and the Ring was transferred from Stella's old avatar to her new one.)

(IRL Tecna is totally an actual programmer/hacker. All the girls chose their powers on their IRL interests. Except 'Bloom', whose father is an actual fireman, while she is an art/graphic design student.)

Wait... why would there be a global conspiracy to murder-game tens of thousands of people? Unless there wasn't and Kiaba, the nutjob responsible for SAO, simply wrote the code for the murder game into the operating system that everyone else ended up copying for their games and all the NerveGear were equipped with brain-bombs so... in the non-SAO servers... who told everyone they died in real life if they died in the game?

Oh man, I really haven’t been very active lately. I am currently working two jobs and just haven’t had the energy or motivation to write recently. I’m trying to ease myself back into writing again.

Haha. I'm okay? I think? It’s hard to tell. Things have taken such a departure from my old schedule that I don’t really know what to do anymore, in a productive sense. Also I miss cuddling with my friends.

How to Train Your Dragon. Or Spiderverse. HTTYD is older and it shows, but the story and the progressing friendship always get me. The dragons help too. Spiderverse is just good shit in every department, especially the art and animation. And the music, for both movies, is phenomenal. Absolutely fantastic.

Eh. Not much one for the ‘dere’s, but if I had to pick, tsundere. When they’re not obnoxiously too tsundere, and have an actual character hiding behind the stereotype.

8-9 is a good estimate. The only roadblocks being the fact that the road to the art industry and the art industry itself is hell and my own occasional mental health stuff. But other than that, I’m okay. More than okay. I’m amazing. Sometimes. Yeah.

Good time of day! I've read quite a lot of your metas, and I really love how deeply you analize characters, relationships, songs, moments from either movies and TV-shows, how you find parallels. It's great that your blog exists, thank you. I had a Great time ruffling through it and I mean to carry on. There's a hell lot of cool stuff. Now to the ask itself. I'd be great to hear your pov and opinion on this formless thoughts of mine (and maybe convert them into another awesome analysis post :)

Several HTTYD rewatches ago, I have thought about those dragons the teens fight on the ring as exactly the ‘individuals’ that will later become the Riders’ trustful companions - for the first time. I must have matured since the first coupl'a rewatches, or became more perceptive, but I noticed how distressed they all were. How scared of dying on that very arena they must have been. But nevertheless didn’t let it show and even let their personality slip through the feral aggressiveness(like when Stormfly laughed at Snotlout, or Meatlug’s cute face as she was mercilessly brought down by dragon nip, or Hookfang’s entire daring demeanour and the smirk he gave Hiccup after pinning him down) 

Since I’ve been thinking a lot bout it, I’ve put together a logical chain, for it all to feel even worse. These dragons must have been young since they were captured. Young, unexperienced and reckless. We’ve been proved that Hiccup and Toothless are of same age,so it’s not too crazy to assume that other dragons in out team and their humans are peers. More or less. Their childish\playful behaviour (after the war ended) speaks for them. 

What tipped me off, what threw me on this train of thought in the first place, was Hookfang’s reaction to the loud BANG that Stoick made when demanding to stop the fight. That he, having seemingly calmed down a second ago, went to bite, wreck, fire at everybody. Kill. I mean, how tense, desperate, s c a r e d was he?That he’ll be killed this very day? And then apparently won’t?? What the hell?? So, after all, he will???? WHAT. 

Imagine teens - CHILDREN - the age the gang was in the first movie, having to fight like gladiators every day and facing death every. damn. day. Life was hell for them, and who knows how long they were kept in cages before the revolution happened. Sorry. This.. wasn’t supposed to be this long. I just get a lot of feels and I have nowhere to put them and no one to spill them to. TY 

Thank you for spilling your feels! It really is fascinating to consider the first movie from the dragons’ perspective. As you point out, these dragons experienced a rather unpleasant time with the Vikings during dragon training. They were used as tools to teach children how to fight and kill dragons. The end goal of training was to even have Hiccup kill Hookfang in the ring!

The Hairy Hooligans would have had to hunt these dragons down, capture them, and contain them. My guess is that the Hooligans would have had the sense to take dragons young. They did not know about the hatching grounds until Gift of the Night Fury, nor had access to the dragons’ main island until Toothless showed them the way, but the Hairy Hooligans could have captured young dragons that were not yet fully grown. It’d be far easier to trap, take, and transport smaller juvenile dragons, after all.

And there could even be evidence for that. You suggest that Stormfly, Hookfang, Barf and Belch, and Meatlug are all fairly young - and I agree, but I’m going to propose they’re even younger than your guess! There’s a suggestion in one of the comics that Stormfly might be far younger than Toothless… approximately two years old - that is, if Arngrim Dammen is to be believed. So that means that the Hairy Hooligans could be taking very young dragons for their training.

Regardless, it’s sad to think about the conditions that Barf and Belch, Stormfly, Meatlug, and Hookfang would have endured. These dragons would have been scared, upset, and miserable. The enclosures for the dragons are not very large. They hardly would have been able to get exercise or social interaction (and dragons are rather social creatures, as we have seen). These dragons would have been kept healthy enough for teens to fight them in training, but it would still be miserable conditions.

For as you point out, the dragons would be constantly scared that humans were going to kill them. Meatlug wouldn’t understand that this is battle practice and the kids are going to just fight her, not slaughter her. These dragons are going on the defensive and protect themselves from aggressive humans as they have done for generations. It would be extremely frightening to re-enter fight after fight after fight, incapable of escaping this small ring, and fighting humans. It’s no wonder that these dragons appeared far more dangerous and aggressive to the teenagers… these dragons were not in the correct conditions to express their gentler behavior.

As you point out, Hiccup is capable of bringing out their gentler sides, though. Lots of their responses are to immediate physiological sensations, that said. Stormfly collapses under the amazing sensation of being scratched in the right spot - it’s almost a reflex she falls down so hard. XD Meatlug gets high from dragon nip right away - that is a substance affecting her mind and causing her to become docile. But where we really see the cool thing happening…

…is Hiccup with Hookfang in the Kill Ring. 

It’s to note that Hookfang is wary of Hiccup. Hiccup demonstrates peaceful behavior but the dragon is still noticeably cautious. Hookfang only approaches slowly after Hiccup has demonstrated enough that he is not harmful.

But Hookfang has also been in such a bad place that, as soon as he hears Stoick protest, he immediately goes on the defensive and starts fighting again.

Ultimately both humans and dragons are capable of overcoming their fear to one another. The humans have a lot of personal blocks they have to overcome, too. Together, human and dragon forged bond in HTTYD… learning how to interact with gentleness and peace rather than aggression and war.

          &&. in all seriousness, i will get to them, but school is starting soon. smh prop you should have gotten your shit together with this blog. anyway, don’t be like me and make a multidragon blog and expect yourself to write in depth bios lmao

         to make this clear since all dragons share this: they’re PRIDEFUL and INTELLIGENT. i know i joke about the best way to not getting yourself eaten is by calling them pretty, but it kinda is in a sense. after all, when you look at a dragon, you see a monster and beast, things along those lines. you don’t exactly see the beauty in serrated, sword long teeth that’s got charred flesh stuck in between or the smoldering ruins they leave behind. it doesn’t bother them if you call them otherwise, but it would hold their curiosity to judge you in seeing if you’re sincere or at least give you time to look for an exit ( viserion tends to be very vain and balerion likes to puff out his chest ). after all, winning their favor would be in your best interest when encountering them.

         they are intelligent creatures and they do understand human speech. they know what you’re saying regardless of whatever shit you’re trying to call them in a cheery tone. it’s like in hp when draco called buckbeak an ugly brute. talk shit, get hit buddy. meraxes is the most forgiving, just saying, but even she has her limits. they are in tune with their rider’s feelings through their bond and it’s one that is magical and more. it’s why the dragons can be called without any verbal message or command. the dragons communicate through a variety of sounds too, which ( aside from body language ) communicates what they’re trying to get at. i’m going off my own hc that the dragons do share their own experiences with one another. they can show each other images, sounds, scents, touch, and feelings depending on how close they are. this could eventually be something their riders might experience if they’re close enough. again it’s their own jurisdiction on whether they want to share or not. sometimes if the bond is really strong there’s no hiding it. 

         also to make this clear, just because you’re their RIDER does not necessarily save you from possibly getting injured or snapped at. they’re WILD no matter how long they’ve had a rider for. there is no TAMING of a dragon ( dany got snapped at y’know ) and once a dragon sets their mind to doing something, they’ll do it regardless of being told no. along with that note, the dragon chooses the rider, not the other way around.

                                        and now we get into what y’all really want.

balerion: is founded on this need to survive as he was one of the five dragons that was brought over from the doom. i’m not saying they didn’t feed him or anything, he can hunt on his own quite well, but i’m sure he most likely fought the other fledglings for food. and as he grew, he became more outwardly aggressive in dominating and suppressing the other dragons. most likely if these dragons didn’t die from natural causes, balerion would have killed them himself when they started to toe the line with him. honestly, i wouldn’t be surprised if he wasn’t partial to cannibalism. with how much he ate and having all the free skies to fly, he grew into what massive size and fire power he was known for. pretty much this is the part that makes me laugh too when jaime??? in the show was saying drogon was full grown. drogon is like a fourth of his size. he wouldn’t make an impact if they collided in the air and balerion would eat him alive. aren’t ya glad he’s dead?

         i’m trying really hard to remember what word fits him, but it’s not arrogance. he knows what he’s capable of and he has the right to act as he does. balerion has an air of superiority ( it doesn’t help that he does look down at you from his snout ), but it’s a very imposing and tangible type of atmosphere when you meet him. he wants your respect. he won’t ask for it. he DEMANDS it. which raises the question that i made early on my dash, about how anyone could have possibly controlled balerion. anyway, balerion does not go out of his way to be cruel. none of the dragons do actually, they kill for a reason and not for sport ( chasing is fun though ). he can be quite sweet ( surprise!!!! ) to those he trusts. no, he won’t roll over and wag his tail like a puppy ( they’re more feline like when it comes to body language anyway ), but he will make the softest sounds and nudge you as gentle as possible for a scratch ( not that you can really do much at his age ). 

                           here’s a sample that i wrote for some meme on my other blog:

 the skies are his to rule and he fills it with dragon song. from deep within his stomach, presses out through chest and vibrates through throat, it comes in ROAR meant to signify his presence. how any creature, small or large ( all insignificant ), can not make note of his presence was surely foolish. for even the BLIND can see his strength, let it roll over them and know how immense of a beast he was. for even the DEAF can hear what mighty beast he was, feel the way the EARTH quivers underneath wing stroke. even the SILENT can utter gasping screams when BLACK FIRE scorches land and all its inhabitants. they should all know and see just WHO it is that truly bears the CROWN.

                WHY RULE SEVEN KINGDOMS WHEN THE SKY ENCOMPASSES ALL?

  crimson gaze settles upon silver scales that GLEAM in sunlight. and dragon song once more makes itself heard, though not of his own and balerion only eyes the CHALLENGER with disinterest. such a fledgling ( by his standards ) can screech in defiance and utter his PETTY challenges all he wishes. it would not matter. HE WILL CRUSH THIS ONE’S SKULL BETWEEN HIS TEETH. maegor be willing ( or unwilling ), he will know what is BEST for them both and let him tear this silver one apart.

                                                             FOOLISH THING 

  he has lived a HUNDRED YEARS AND MORE. he has seen and faced battles FAR GREATER than this child of blood and fire has ever seen much less been in. dark shadow is cast and falls below the city ( human nest ). how such fragile creatures take to hiding, so unlike the human child that sits upon his black scales and holds onto scarlet tinged horns and spines. a whisper from maegor, a language that HE KNOWS SINCE HATCHING is given. kessa īlon zālagon zirȳ, balerion? he need not ask such a thing. the dragon will show what FIRES BURN within his chest.

                                          DO YOU THINK YOU CAN DEFEAT ME? 

  how can such a SMALL DRAGON hope to compare to such a beast like him? great jaws part and reveal curved teeth, CRUELthings that have CLEAVED armored men in half and feasted upon their horses like human children eating sweets. he calls then, to this QUICKSILVER dragon. wingstrokes carrying him far and he is met with open aggression. clawed feet latch onto his, but by far, he DWARFS this little sky lord. one can not simply DEFEAT A KING like he.

                                                    A CENTURY TOO YOUNG 

    teeth SINK through scales with such ease and reminds him of humans in their worthless metal armor. and it is just like them that he will end THIS IMPUDENT LORD’S LIFE. nostrils flare as he breathes in, feels VOLCANIC HEAT rise up from his chest and PITCH BLACK FLAMES spew from the depths of his throat and rush to burn at joint where bone connects wing to body. there is a cry of PAIN AND AGONY, but that only fuels such eagerness for the kill. a sharp jerk of his head, power given by thick neck muscle, and he makes QUICK WORK of this dragon. jaws slacken for just a second before snapping back shut. with one final SNAP, the wing tears free.

vhagar: vhagar and meraxes were born after balerion, both of who are female. they are close to one another not just because of how close they were hatching, but also being girls essentially ( they got each other’s back like visenya and rhaenys!!! ). she is very forward in what she wants and how she wants it. there are no warnings with vhagar, save with visenya of course, but generally it’s best to tread very lightly with her. she’s the embodiment of i’ll take it with fire and blood and would die fighting. vhagar is very into proving to everyone she’s capable of handling herself. while she’s not a tactician of any sort, vhagar does use the field to her advantage and not to mention her size. more or less that first started with picking fights with balerion when she was old enough. she is not scared of balerion whatsoever and often would get the upper hand of things despite being slightly smaller. she’s a quick thinker and ferocious when it comes to fighting ( more like sore loser lbr ). vhagar sadly does have a short temper, so often enough she will kinda explode when things that have been annoying her build up, but as quick as it starts, it’s also quick to go away. 

         she is pretty smug though. you know that scene in httyd where toothless kinda laughs at the other dragon he spat fire at? yeah that’s vhagar when she beat balerion. i hc that there were two major fights between the both of them, which could have ended up with either of them dead. in both cases, vhagar had the upper hand and she used the environment to her advantage. the first time was in dragonstone and vhagar nearly drowned balerion if it wasn’t for meraxes knocking her off. the second time was in king’s landing within the dragonpit because of some spacial pressure. they’re used to open skies and being able to fly freely, not being kept in one place completely. it’s a good thing they kept the fight short or the city would have all burned. 

meraxes: is the most forgiving of dragons. or rather, the most TOLERANT of them. by all means, she’s not docile. please don’t think that. she surely is the most patient and willing to wait ( to think before she leaps! ) to see what happens. she’s inquisitive by nature and finds herself rather content with lazing in the sun. though it’s not to say she’s not as ferocious as the other two in the skies. by all means, meraxes is no push over. she just has an extremely high patience, especially when it comes to balerion and vhagar. only when it’s a life and death situation will she intervene in their fights. otherwise she lets them go at it until they go into a stalemate. meraxes certainly does have a more motherly nature and often enough does coddle rhaenys should she see her upset. to a certain extent, she does find human children amusing and might allow a few curious ( and brave! ) to try and climb on her, but she’ll shake them off or push them away when she’s had enough.

        ( i gotta think about her more because she’s not as developed as i hoped aside from #she protec and #she attac)

drogon: he shares a lot of aspects with balerion ( death reincarnate! ), but because of how he was raised ( since i write balerion already hatched and wasn’t bonded at first to aenys ), he’s very tied to daenerys. in a sense he DOES want to be his mother’s son. he adores her and will do what he can to make her happy and content, but it’s also with this love that brings him such CONFLICT. you’ll see this especially when he becomes bigger than a small dog. he wants to be FREE to do what he wants without having to come back to dany and he kinda wants to come to her on his own terms. i mean ever since they were young, they mostly stayed within their mother’s view. and now they’re large enough to go somewhere without people trying to catch them in a sense.

        drogon wants to be the first. first ( lmao ) and foremost is to SURVIVE. after all, there were people trying to separate him and his brothers from their mother and there is nothing more powerful than fear to be your guide LMAO. essentially he doesn’t want to be in that position again. he wants to be able to be the one who protects himself, his siblings, but also his mother and that is a huge driving force ( also generally what gets him to rush right on back ).  and there, again, is this WILDERNESS that even dany can not tame no matter how much she can try. the best way, thankfully so, is through compromise. i think the fact that drogon had snapped at her the first time was shocking to her. drogon has always been gentle with her and to have this happen is eye opening. but aside from that!!! he does push his weight around. with his siblings, he makes it very clear that he is the one in charge. not to say that neither of them won’t challenge him from time to time. though this was mostly when they were younger and around the same size, though drogon still having a little more growth on him.

        he is a very stubborn dragon and he likes making it known that you should not test him, no exceptions even with dany ( ie snappity snap ). and as he grows larger and older, drogon definitely does find his own way in things. and honestly??? going into a fight with dany on his back is also kinda fun for him in a sense because hello prey drive, but also charred horse is pretty nice. viserion and rhaegal already ate humans so??? it’s not like he can miss out!!!

viserion: call him the PRETTIEST dragon you’ve ever seen and he’ll wait for you to compliment him more. viserion is VAIN and he likes to be praised ( fastest way to his heart ). the one thing he noticed right off the bat when he became more aware of his surroundings is that he is the color of the metal objects that people so covet, which only adds to his ridiculous ego. now i’m not saying that he’s going to stare off into a mirror all the time, but he takes a lot of time and pride in his appearance. however, i wouldn’t go as far as to count him out when it comes to a fight. just because there’s some blood being splattered or there’s some mud involved, doesn’t mean anything. being vain also means he’ll defend his name and reputation through his own force and means. so he does at times get into fights with drogon and rhaegal, but it stops once he’s makes his point ( or when drogon makes his point lmao ). hence why he grows more and more aggressive when he’s older.

        he is a very CONSERVATIVE dragon ( no politics \ o / ) and by that I mean he only does things when he deems his energy and time is worth it. this applies to moving too. big cats, for example, they only use enough energy to leap from one platform to the edge of another platform. no more and no less. viserion is like that and he is a very graceful flier because of it. though this does make him appear to be the LAZIEST dragon as he’s often seen basking in the sun while rhaegal might be off doing spiral dives for fun. speaking of his brother though, both he and rhaegal are the closest with each other because of the time they spent with each other when they were chained up, but also because of the fact they get along really well??? they work very well when it comes to hunting together and it’s really coordinated ( think ambushing when they were younger ). but!!! viserion is PROTECTIVE of rhaegal and keeps an eye on him and like siblings, they’ll back each other up. they do nest together and they don’t often stay away for too long from each other. it’s more so for reassurance than it is because they’re dependent on one another. 

                                                            he hates the cold. 

rhaegal: the smallest and by far is not coddled. in fact he would actually get angry if you do things for him ( not that he doesn’t appreciate the sentiment ) because he likes to EARN things. he is a hard worker and it’s so much more SATISFYING to him if he does. he doesn’t have an inferiority complex, but he does turn everything into a COMPETITION. he shares traits with vhagar in the sense that he wants to prove himself. hence why once he sees drogon do something, rhaegal is the one who will surely follow since he wants to also beat viserion to the punch. he is TENACIOUS in anything he tries to do and if he doesn’t get it right the first time. drogon might have been the first to fish in the seas while they were traveling on boat, but rhaegal would have been the second to dive right in. you’ll find him rather brave and bold. when he was younger he wouldn’t hesitate to fight back larger and stronger opponents and i wouldn’t put it past him to make a go at horses when he was on the ground or even dorthraki riders when they’re close by. and as he grew, it’s not surprising when he becomes the most TROUBLESOME of dragons when it came to having to find his way with wow growth spurt lmao and finding how to fly properly. all wings and kinda lanky before filing out. tbh, rhaegal isn’t the most graceful of dragons to fly since he relies a lot on speed so his movements can be sharp when there are turns and he likes to test the limits of his capabilities ( honestly imagine nearly crashing if it wasn’t for viserion or drogon to cushion/ help him pull back ). 

        surprisingly, he’s also the most SOCIAL of all dragons and CURIOUS of them. which makes him a bit more easier to handle in comparison to his brothers when he was younger. so it was alright for dany to essentially hand him off to someone else close to her to hold ( like jorah or missandei ). it’s why he’s rather SOFT when it comes to those close to dany and will often take it to kinda check in on them ( he’s got a good heart!!! ). though it might come unwelcomed when he scares the heck out of you. rhaegal, as i mentioned above, is very close with viserion. even before they were chained beneath the pyrimids, they grew to rely on one another more than they did drogon. rhaegal has been one to sleep next to viserion and at times will share food ( if he’s generous ). though they do have their fair share of fights for the meal. and i gotta write a sad dragon now smh.

Alright I’m writing this post before I wimp out on this decision that I need to make. I’m going to try to explain with some thoughtful honesty about where I’m potentially going to be heading with my main blog. But because I have the habit of being... verbose... I’m putting my TL;DR at the top:

I am opening my ask box even though I still have dozens of analysis prompts saved from before I closed the ask box. It’s because I’m tired of not chatting with people in this amazing fandom. I love interacting!

I can no longer consistently analyze prompts. This means I cannot guarantee I will give a thorough analysis if I receive an analysis prompt. I will have to start giving answers like “I don’t know,” “I don’t remember,” or something based more on my gut than thorough research. If a topic really intrigues me, I might give a classic Haddock thorough response. But I can no longer guarantee long, consistent asks. I will, regardless, still respond to every ask I get!

I am so thankful for the experiences I have had with the HTTYD fandom and I would not trade my time on tumblr with you guys for anything. Seriously, you’ve all been amazing. I never would have expected to have such journeys, find such laughter, or make such friends as I have with all of you. Here’s to more fun times to come!

I have known for at least a year, if not two, that I could not keep up the pace of my blog analyses... not without sacrificing major opportunities or experiences in my life. I will be honest, me spending too much time on tumblr during my one year of the PhD program could have been one of the key reasons I couldn’t keep up. As much as I enjoy the community and as much as I am so happy to answer asks - it’s very fun and somewhat addictive - I know that I have to make decisions with my limited time.

I’m currently working three part-time jobs (~60 hours a week), am trying to find a good game plan for a stable lifelong career, and I have a lot of other adult-ing to do. When I do have free time, I want to be able to spend it hanging out with irl friends, reading books, studying theology and other topics of interest, reintegrating myself in the local church, writing novels, playing music, composing, drawing, conlanging, cosplaying, hiking, jogging, skiing, snowshoeing, watching good tv shows and movies, playing video games, spending time with family, making meaningful memories, etc.

I want to say that answering analyses on tumblr is something that is very meaningful to me. I don’t know how to say how touched I am that people are curious to hear my perspective. I never intended for kingofthewilderwest to be an analysis blog, yet here I am, wowed and grateful for over five thousand followers who have listened to me yak up a storm about an amazing franchise. I never would have imagined this would happen. I’m beyond grateful. What’s made it so worthwhile is interacting with you guys. I’m so happy to have had this experience and... I want to keep having this experience.

That said, answering asks on tumblr is perhaps not as “helpful” to me in the long run as working on a novel I hope to someday publish, or making sure I get a good night’s rest so I’m ready for another day of work. If I want to reach my life goals and have the meaningful experiences I dream of having, I have to make changes to my current day-to-day situation. I HAVE to. I want to get my life back in order, and I recognize my life has not been as “put together” since I started investing more time in tumblr. To get myself really firmly on track, I do have to loosen my hold on some of my free time activities, if not drop some things out altogether.

Answering analyses is a very time consuming process. VERY time consuming process. It can take me forty minutes or four hours to answer a single question. Not an exaggeration. This is because I often have to rewatch episodes and movies, do a bit of research online, give myself time to mull, and, all in all, invest a lot of time into answering a question. Even when I do consistently try my best to stay on track with answering asks... I cannot keep up with the volume of questions I receive. I wish I could, but I acknowledge I can’t. I still have asks in my inbox from the new year or older (Btw: the way my ask box system works: I keep the ask box open until I am >100 asks behind, then I close the box and answer all those, then open the ask box again). I am so, so sorry that I haven’t responded to all of you who have been patiently waiting for me, or you who may have even forgotten you sent in a question or comment.

I am sorry for all the people I will disappoint by not getting to your submitted asks with the thoroughness you were hoping. I will answer them, albeit not to my previous thorough standard. However, I hope you understand I feel it would be more thoughtful to provide you any response than to never return your messages.

My ask box has been closed because I still have about fifty asks left to answer before I’m caught up. But my ask box has been shut for a long time and I want to hang out with people and chat back and forth. So...

I’m going to open up my ask box again, but I hope you understand I suggest you do not inundate me with analysis requests. I want to open up my ask box so I can interact closely with everyone again... I always feel a little shut off and stale when I have my ask box closed. Now, you can send me analysis requests (when I’m not going through the really old ones in my drafts... again, sorry), but I cannot guarantee I will write an analysis in return. I’ll answer, but it might be a short “I’m not sure” or a few sentences of speculation instead of an essay. I’m happy to chat, I’m happy to discuss back and forth, whatever I want to do when I have the time for recreation, but I cannot be a one-person powerhouse publisher.

I don’t like doing this, but I’ve been needing to do this for a long time. So while I have the guts to write this and post it, I’m going to do it and make the decision final. Don’t make me back down. Don’t make me reverse this choice. Keep me accountable to my long-term life goals.

Another truth, and I am sorry to admit this to you guys, is that I’m not someone who’s used to staying in one fandom mindset for so long. I mean, I always love what I consume and always will get into it. But I’m more of the person to dance from passion to passion, from current interest to current interest, jumping in and out of the buzz of what I love. For instance, I might be on-and-off again with Star Wars, one year thinking about it and fanning about it a lot, another year not really caring. And I usually don’t get involved WITH a fandom... usually just scream about it with a few close irl friends and then move on. How to Train Your Dragon was a notable anomaly, a strange divergence from my typical patterning, and frankly it’s something I wouldn’t have stuck with for so long if not for my interaction with tumblr. If not for the HTTYD tumblr community, I likely would have been out of my HTTYD craze by mid-2015.

And while the HTTYD community has helped me sustain my ongoing interaction with the fandom, my personal passions are focused elsewhere now. I’m still always happy to talk dragons, mind! You guys can fuel me up again when I see you posting about it on tumblr. But in the last year and a half or two years, my mind hasn’t been focused on HTTYD. It’s been first Gravity Falls, then Undertale... and then, with the release of Andromeda, the Mass Effect franchise. I’ve also been going through crazes for things like Voltron: Legendary Defender. So, currently, my head is obsessing about Paladins and Alteans and Salarians and Spectres and Pathfinders and Space Exploration... not so much dragons and Vikings. It’s why my video game blog has been more active and responsive than this one. I’m very sorry if that statement disappoints you, friends. It’s a little weird for me too because I don’t know who all I can shout about my interests with (I only have a few friends who share these interests with me, and I’m sort of annoyingly “late in the fandom” if you know what I mean... don’t want to annoy the same people over and over again about something that’s 5+ years old, but who else do I talk to?). But, well, it is what it is. And it’s more fun for me to charge around with my latest obsession.

Let’s be clear: I’m not leaving you guys or running away or shutting myself off or becoming a hermit or anything. XD You guys mean too much to me to run off. I’m stuck here for good with you dragon nerds. Again, this community has been an extraordinary thing to me, and honestly, my interactions with the HTTYD fandom was the way I got out of a big depressive slump in 2014. So I’m still here! I’ll be staying here! I’m still going to commit to respond to every sincere message I receive! I’m just saying I’m going to invest less time in original posts, especially analyses. That’s all. :) 

It’ll be the best for my life. I hope you friends can all understand. We have to make decisions about the limited time in our lives.
