oh boy….. what a can of worms…

purity shipping culture is rubbish, and when i see people act like saying you ship something means you condone it or think it’s completely pure and healthy it drives me absolutely up the wall ghkfdjhgjkfdg. i think there’s value in discussing what’s healthy and what’s not, bc god was i surrounded by a shit tonne of abuse tactics & red flags crap older people where selling to me as normal and fine, or encouraging stuff that i really wish an adult had said to me “hey, i think venting this stuff out is great and i’m here to talk if you want, but please know this isn’t the be all & end of what relationships truly are” instead of justifying every dumb thought my angsty teenage brain came up with. but whenever you denounce purity shipping culture ppl come out of the fucking woodwork to be like “exactly, that’s why i’m totally allowed to ship this 13 yr with a whole ass adult and it’s totally fine :) i would never do it in real life and i’m not responsible for platforming pedophiles who are grooming kids in fandom just bc i romanticise it” no fuck off. i know people, especially young people, and especially in echo chambers like tumblr can only see in black and white but there is some sort of middle ground.

also i don’t get canon shipping culture? h*ccstrid is my main example cause it’s my most active fandom but you see these absolutely wild intense shit in most fandoms and get dramatic sentences like “ h*ccstrid’s the most beautiful perfect thing ever and anyone who thinks otherwise is a poopyhead” and it’s like? okay? what do you like about it? and 90% of the time it’s like “well it’s canon” or *lists things deblois has said about it* or straight up stuff that’s like. that’s not actually happening/there and it’s just like… do you like this bc you see something worthwhile or bc it’s canon? cause it feels like it’s just cause it’s canon. idk i think it might be bc im not a str8 and so ultimately those tiny moments of interaction are a million times more satisfying to me than blatant forced hetero romances. i don’t like being told by my media who to ship. i like coming to the conclusion myself, but i’m guessing that’s not that same for most ppl at all. canon ship culture is so obnoxious too like, i’m out here minding my own business liking my tiny obscure ship and sometimes making posts on my own blog abt how i dont like the canon ship and h*ccstriders since like. … 2012 have been inserting themselves into my blog and making a big deal and vaguing me on other blogs, and writing big vents about my existence and sending me death threats and suicide baiting and causing drama and it’s just like. your ship is canon? 98% of the fandom ships it but what you’re still so bored with all that content that you need to do this?

also 👀👀👀 if u know someone likes h*ccstrid you can guess with 100% accuracy their ships from other shows they like. and even if you haven’t seen the pattern before when it happens to you, you’ll groan and be like “of Course ugh fjkhskjfhgfg”

@captainofthestars and i talk about them so much w/ our tfa au or tfrq or just. in general, whenever. we love them, we started shipping them after tfa because they had such a fun dynamic? Basically right after Blurr’s first few appearances, whoops

Bee thanking Blurr when he’s still just the “mysterious racer” is super good... Bee does a name shout when Blurr gets pulled into the space bridge! And he immediately wants to prioritize They Have To Get Him Back, i’m JUST SAYING, so like we got super attached rly fast bc of their general back-and-forth and little things like that.

Bee during the series is sorta competitive outside of cute moments like that? Which we tend to write as just... he’s kind of like that when he’s not sure what to do w/ his feelings, Blurr is super fast and kind of cool and he kind of saved Bee before and Other Emotions so instead of dealing with how he feels abt that its time to Fight. Blurr (who quint writes more often) also likes Bee pretty fast but he’s not great with people and doesn’t really realize it until later when he actually stops to think about it, post-series (which is getting into au territory but that’s just the hill we’re gonna die on)

It’s after the show that they manage to find Blurr, and his time in the hospital is... a process. Bee runs into him here again and learning about the state he’s in and what happened to him is pretty upsetting, especially since he already has a lot of problems/guilt around Shockwave and what he did. Blurr is stuck in the hospital for a pretty long time, since they need to be careful unfolding him and replacing parts of his body as needed, and no one else is really there much so Bee starts visiting him pretty often.

At first Blurr can’t really talk, but he can make some noises, and they start figuring out how to talk that way in some basic codes. Blurr is bored and lonely between surgeries, and Bee is one of the people who gets permission to take him out around Cybertron sometimes when he’s stable but not being worked on. Or, y’know, just sneak him out without permission. It doesn’t really seem right to try and be rude, or start fights, so instead they just... talk, and hang out, and under everything it turns out they really do get along and really like each other?

And it’s while Blurr is in the hospital slowly being repaired that he has lots of time to think, and think and think because he’s bedridden without supervision and that’s about all he gets to do most of the time. So he stops to think about it, finally, and realizes that he might like Bumblebee- and of course, he’s been so nice to him. It could be entirely pity, of course, that would be unfortunate, but it could be that he likes him too- he should ask. I’m just. Gonna copypaste part of the discord convo on it

And Then They Date and it’s fucking cute bc they’re dumb and in love. Blurr is maybe not totally ready to jump back to active intel duty on Cybertron, so he goes back to earth with Bee instead. Omega Supreme’s presence basically doubles the size of their base on earth, which is good because with the new members they’ve got- mainly Wreck-Gar, and now Blurr- they need the room. Especially since the one now-empty room is one that no one is super willing to clear out.

Blurr ends up being part of the “Bee Team” that Bee puts together eventually to try and relocate Wasp. Which involves a lot of dimension-hopping shenanigans. It’s the first big mission Blurr’s been on since recovery, too, which is fun. Wreck-Gar and the Dinobots come along too, which is important bc after they do find Wasp- and a lot of other troubles to eventually rehabilitate the poor guy- Blurr, Wasp, Wreck-Gar, and an oc end up as a b-team to the main earth autobots (along with a few other occasional members)

at this point it ends up in sorta nebulous The Adventure Continues areas, eventually they do end up sharing a room and stuff which i’ve written into one of the once-in-a blue-moon fics, I’ll jst drop some more scattered hcs that were located looking for the confession hc

SURE I’m glad you liked those! Everything by Memphis is A+ and I love it so if you haven’t you should check out more stuff by them ( No Ordinary Love is super nice, That’s Just Life is very dear to me and so is Divinity, Speechless is… my otp song for every otp ever tbh) - Bring Me The Horizon is my fav post-hardcore band and both MMF and Chiodos are that genre so if you don’t know them give them a try! (Blasphemy, Run and Doomed are between my faves out of the latest album, and since you liked Under Your Halo you’re probably gonna like Follow You too) the album right before is amazing too if you’re okay with less melodic stuff, but the further back you go with BMtH the harder to listen to they get, just a heads up - Sleeping With Sirens are on the softer side of post-hardcore lately, Fly, Left Alone, Trouble, Fire and Empire To Ashes are some great ones, between the many, and, uhhhh, at this point I might have recced Nothing More a hundred times but let’s make it a hundred and one, try Funny Little Creatures, Do You Really Want It and Go To War out of the newest album! If you’re into punk and female voices you should check out Tonight Alive too, Jenna has one of my two fav female voices in rock right now (Crack My Heart and Temple are the latest two songs out!) and since I always rec stuff but I never rec anything by my favorite band ever, you ever heard of Alter Bridge? They’re more towards hard-rock/alternative metal, but check out Blackbird, Fortress, I Know It Hurts, Cradle To The Grave and Broken Wings just to make it one for every album I really, really adore this band and everything they ever made

More than headcanons for them I have an incredible amount of scenarios I’d like to see them in! And when they’re compact, complete things I usually draw them, which is what inspires me really haha that, and seeing them interact in the manga! Lately I’ve been really drawn to Bakugou and Kaminari’s friendship, actually, so the romantic stuff has fallen in the background while my mind is preoccupied with thinking about them as platonic good pals ahhhhhhh as soon as I’ll work through it I’ll probably get back to drawing them as romantics, that’s just how my mind works lol

It’s not a stupid question, don’t worry!! But I generally like to leave myself in Horikoshi’s hands for this sort of stuff, since I both enjoy the costumes as they are AND don’t want to be disappointed in case what I hope for doesn’t actually happen - that said, I’ve mentioned before that I’d really like Aoyama to get redirectors for his laser on his palms and for Kaminari to get a close combat weapon, since with the quirk he has anything metal would actually work wonders for him! He mentioned a sword, but I rest my case that tonfas would be cool, I really want him to use tonfas. A “costume” I don’t understand is Hagakure’s, by the way - would be nice if she got an actual costume and also I don’t really get why she’d wear gloves at all?? Mirio’s costume was made using his hair, I really want her to get something similar! That’s about it tho, I haven’t really thought much about anyone else in that sense~

ART SCHOOL | Q&A w/ Mark Rogers (PDX)

Known for his oil paintings of extraterrestrial beings in Western backdrops, artist Mark Rogers creates quite literally some out-of-this-world artwork. Rogers’s pioneer and alien narratives started out as writings that would later evolve into his body of work, focusing on this idea that “aliens are [the] modern folklore creatures of our current time.” We’re excited to chat with this self taught artist and talk about various topics including his paintings, his sketchbook, and his sighting of a U.F.O in 2009!

Tell us about yourself Hi, I am Mark Rogers. I am a painter from Portland, Oregon. I have an irrational fear of bees, I am a vegan, and I love metal. Thanks so much for interviewing me.

What is your art background and when did you first get into drawing? I have been drawing for as long as I can remember. A lot of my elementary school memories were of me drawing on back side of whatever assignment the teachers had handed out to us, and possibly getting into trouble for it.

Being self taught, what are your thoughts on the advantages and disadvantages of maybe not attending art school? Well, I don’t have to deal with the crippling student loan debt. Perhaps this is the most advantageous aspect of being self-taught. I received my degree in Political Science of all things, perhaps out of a sense of naive idealism before the grim apathy of adulthood sunk it’s fangs into my heart. I started making art seriously at an older age, (around 27) and felt that the school-thing wasn’t for me any more. Because I have never been to art school, I can’t completely attest to the advantages, but I do know quite a few other artists who have gone to art school, who also work a few shifts a week in restaurants and bars like myself. The same holds true of political science majors. It seems like I’m on the right path.

Tell us about your current work which feature some prominent protagonist in the form of extraterrestrial beings interacting with American pioneers in the 1800’s. How did they evolve into your subject matter? Before I started painting, I dabbled in writing, but I wasn’t really that good at it. My pioneer/alien narrative coalesced over the course of many paintings and sketchbook doodles and I am learning more about the story all the time. I feel that Aliens are the modern folklore creatures of the our current time as maybe fairies and elves were their predecessors from earlier generations. I have always loved westerns, but felt that they were sort of boring due to the lack of magic or mystery. A lot of people might say that my work is science fiction, but I am actually trying to create/explore a newer fantasy paradigm that is both magical and American. …..also I saw a UFO in 2009.

Wait, whoaaaa … Please share with us your U.F.O story. It was the early summer of 2009 and I was married at the time, living in Springfield Oregon. My ex-wife and I were walking down Centennial Blvd around dusk, headed to the corner store, when we both saw a glowing ball of orange light silently make its way really low across the sky to our right to vanish over the horizon line. We both looked at each other with huge eyes and say at the same time “UFO”. It was super weird and eerie.

Later that summer we bought a telescope and spent a bit of time each night in the back yard hoping to see something like what we had witnessed, but sadly I have never seen anything like that ever again. That was around the time that I first began painting, although I didn’t paint aliens and such until much later. The painting that I made called, “Prayer to the Magi” depicts the actual UFO that we both witnessed. It might not be an actual ship from outer space, but it was certainly unusual, and unidentifiable.

What’s the weirdest comment or compliment you’ve gotten on a piece? I had a guy the other day tell me that if I painted an Alien virgin Mary, he would have that tattooed on his belly. Some people just message me wanting to talk about their experiences or their extraterrestrial DNA.

What were you painting or drawing prior to extraterrestrials? Can you look back and see a direct evolution to what you’re painting now? What was your first painting, painting? I have always done narrative paintings with characters but they didn’t have the same theme as my current work. They focused usually on something personal in my life that bothered me and I would use symbolism to create an image usually with ghosts and skulls and creepy spooky stuff. My first painting sucked and it was of a woman with branches growing out of her head and perched on the branches were crows. I recently learned from Game of Thrones that was she was doing would be considered “warging”.

Do you keep a sketchbook or work your ideas as you go along? What type of sketchbook do you keep – disorganized chaos or neat and clean? Hell Yeah!! My sketch book is my most important art weapon as well as a wonderfully antisocial lifestyle choice. I have used a lot of sketchbooks over the years, but my total favorite is the Stillman and Birn Gamma Series 9X12. My sketchbooks are filled with thumbnails, doodles and watercolor paintings. Some pages are organized and some are bonkers depending on my sobriety during my bi-weekly drink and draw sessions. I usually go out to coffee and draw once or twice a week too. I bring my sketchbook along with a box of art supplies with me everywhere.

What are the current mediums you work with? What about them are forgiving and what about them is challenging if at all? I love oil painting!! It is my main medium and mega-forgiving. I have tried comic-style inking but getting all the lines perfect on the first shot really stressed me out. I love the slower drying time of oils, the rich colors you can get with glazing, and the texture of the paint. The poisons are fun too! I live in a small studio apartment and my easel is about 8 feet from my bed. The only thing that is really challenging about oil painting is that packing in tiny details can be a little tricky, but it works for me, and I don’t ever foresee changing mediums.

What’s your specific artistic process like? Does a schedule help you? Are you a morning person or night owl? I am extremely process oriented. My typical flow goes: Sketchbook thumbnail, gather reference, better sketchbook thumbnail, draw on the panel, spray fix and cover it with matte medium, then do an underpainting and then the final layers. After that I varnish the painting and photograph it, frame it, and then usually mail it somewhere. I have a suggested art schedule, but I never stick to it. Instead, I am always kind of working or squeezing in chunks of painting time in here or there. I am a total night owl, in fact I rarely leave my apartment unless it is dark out.

What artists are you really into at the moment? What is it about his or her work that stand out to you? I like so many artists both classical and contemporary that it is hard to really answer this question. I am very inspired by a lot of my friends and the community of people that I have met online. I feel like the person that most fascinates me currently is James Gurney because he is really into sharing his process. I have learned so much by just reading his blog. I love how he is a plein air painter as well as an amazing illustrator. I have almost all of his books.

Do you have a favorite pair of Vans (classics, sk8-hi etc)? I am currently wearing the AUTHENTIC black on black, but I also have had a ton of the OLD SKOOL and SK8 HI in the past.

What are some words you like to live by? I don’t have an exact quote, but I am very big on the idea of “Grit” as a personality trait. According to wikipedia: “Grit in psychology is a positive, non-cognitive trait based on an individual’s passion for a particular long-term goal or end state, coupled with a powerful motivation to achieve their respective objective.” I feel that Grit is the most important personality trait of any serious artist.

What are you looking forward to the rest of this year artwise? I have been working a ton with Red Truck Gallery in New Orleans, and I will continue to over the course of the year, with maybe a trip down to Los Angeles for the LA Art show and another trip to NOLA for fun. Also, I would really like to complete a very large painting with lots of characters before the year is over. Finally, it would be nice to have the Alien implant in my frontal cortex removed if possible. Thanks so much for interviewing me, Mike!

Things to note if you’re following this blog as a westallen/Iris West stan:

FIRST, A NOTE: I know there are some commonly held beliefs in the westallen/Iris West fandom. For the most part I agree with them. However, b/c I tend to multiship and love all the characters on most shows I watch, my opinions can run down the middle occasionally instead of on just one side or the other. Some of you have been following me a long time and know where we differ on opinions and are okay with that. But others of you are recent followers. You don’t know what’s up, and you get high key displeased w/ me as a blogger and wonder what in the world made you decide to follow me in the first place when I post unpopular opinions from our fandom that stray from what you believe is acceptable.

This post is a head’s up to unpopular opinions that I have. After reading if you still feel I’m worth the follow, keep on going. Just be aware that on the rare occasion, these opinions may crop up. If not, feel free to unfollow/blacklist and move on to more worthy blogs. I promise you I will not be offended. I don’t want you to come across something that upsets you on my blog, but there’s no way I can please everyone and still feel like I’m able to post everything I want to post. Also, I’d rather not have countless asks streaming into my inbox whenever I post something that may offend you that you weren’t expecting to see. The list below details some (at least what I can think of atm) of those things, so you can be prepared if you do decide to stay.

Last thing, this is not an open invitation to come attack me in my inbox for the opinions I have listed below. This is just me helping you be more aware of my thoughts and feelings on show matters, so you’re not taken off guard for the very few posts where I actually share said opinions. That is all.

1) In the first couple episodes of the Flash, I couldn’t decide between who to ship - snowbarry or westallen (i.e. I thought Grant had chemistry with both ladies and his potential story with both of them appealed to me.) It was the snowstorm backstory in 1x03 that killed any SB romantic feels. I haven’t shipped even the potential of snowbarry ever since.

2) I hardcore shipped spallen while they were together and was sad when Patty left. Even though I didn’t want them to be together long term, I did want them to reach Iris/Eddie status. It should also be noted that I thought Grant and Shantel (as much as I’m disappointed in her irl due to her remarks about Candice/Iris the following summer) had a ton of chemistry. I doubt I’d have shipped Barry with Patty if I hadn’t felt that, because I was not looking forward to Barry having a love interest that wasn’t Iris after season 1.

3) Due to my loving spallen so much, I wasn’t overly aware of Iris being sidelined in 2A, and I didn’t consider Barry a bad friend to her for that reason. (I’ve seen the light since then, but it’s still not an opinion I’m firm on, and I definitely didn’t start out thinking the worst of Barry for what was written.)

4) I didn’t appreciate Iris sneaking off with Wally in 3x11 and deliberately lying to Barry about it (and then that very fact not being addressed whatsoever). Again, I’ve come to an understanding about this as well, but I still didn’t appreciate the lying.

5) Before the “We are the Flash” scene actually happened, I was not a fan of Iris taking on the role of team leader at all - at least not after Barry came out of the speed force. I’m now a huge fan of it, but I didn’t start out liking it.

6) For AU I’m open to almost any pairing in many cases. For instance, I’ve seen SB AU vids that look really good. (I really just love how people are able to create AU SLs in such unique ways w/ unrelated scenes tbh, esp in vids.) In those instances it just looks like Grant and Danielle are starring together in a romantic comedy or whatever, and I have no problem with that. As long as Iris/Candice aren’t also in the scenario and Barry/Grant is refusing her for Danielle/Caitlin (b/c that I’m def not a fan of), I’m pretty open to scenarios that are completely separate from canon as we know it. (At least with vids. It might be a tough pill for me to swallow to read a fic that was SB, even if Iris wasn’t a character w/in it.)

7) I can buy Caitlin having a little bit of a crush on Barry in season 1. I really don’t think Barry ever shared that feeling (though some scenes they shared were clearly ship bait), but b/c Danielle played up those scenes towards an SB romance occasionally, I think it’s totally legit to have shipped them together in that season or shipped the potential of what they could have been. There was ship bait there. If there are feelings on one end, it’s not a crack ship. After season 1, however, (esp after 2x01) there’s absolutely no sign of it. And especially now the delusion is ridiculous. Barry & Caitlin had plenty of opportunity to get together, but they never did. And whatever Caitlin may or may not have felt for Barry even in season 1 never trumped the very deep love she had for Ronnie, so in the end it’s irrelevant.

8) I didn’t like Barry and Linda together. I didn’t buy that they had chemistry either. (Though to be fair, I didn’t even try to be open to it, because I didn’t want it. lol.) Iris was getting jealous, and Barry was shutting her down. With good reason, but still. My bb Iris was finally realizing her feelings, and she was hurt b/c Barry wasn’t responding to them the way she wanted when she couldn’t even say what they were b/c she was in a relationship of her own. It’s not Linda’s fault in the slightest, but - esp given Malese has come btwn two of my ships on two separate shows, one of them being my otp - that ship just rubbed me the wrong way. They were getting in the way of westallen finally happening and that bothered me (b/c it was such terrible timing and proves further why I fully expected to hate spallen before it even happened).

9) I love Felicity (though not a fan of that wedding interruption, obvs), and especially Barry & Felicity’s friendship. So, while I didn’t approve of everyone continually keeping Iris in the dark about Barry’s identity in season 1, I didn’t come away from Felicity’s 1B crossover where she encouraged Barry not to tell Iris about his identity (I don’t even REMEMBER that part of the advice she gave him tbh). I came away being pleased that he was going to fill in Caitlin and Cisco with what he was feeling, and I loved that Felicity was there for him as counsel outside of the people involved with his current struggle.

10) I love love loved what has been called the ‘original’ team flash - Barry, Cisco, and Caitlin. Because of that reason I love platonic snowbarry, and I was sad when they stopped having that many scenes together post-s1. I know it’s because Iris was no longer in the dark, but I really thought they had a special bond, just like he and Cisco do. She’s clearly the person he’s least close with of all the people in his life, but I do really appreciate when we get snapshots of their friendship, and specifically the Barry/Cisco/Caitlin dynamic. That threesome is special, and I like when it’s highlighted. For example: Caitlin actually being a part of Barry & Cisco’s game of laser tag at the beginning of 4x03 brought me so much joy. Also, 3x07 is one of my fav episodes of season 3 b/c not only did it showcase westallen beautifully - and killervibe - but also snowbarry. Iris’ pep talk to Barry and Barry saving Caitlin from herself in almost the last scene are just about on equal significance to me. The WA scene rises above for obvs reasons, but I really truly loved the SB through-line in that episode. It annoys me to no end that I cannot find purely platonic SB vids to watch, b/c that is all I want in life for them. Their relationship is sufficient enough on its own. It doesn’t need to be more, and it’s not canon that is. I think there should be more appreciation for what is canon, rather than what is not.

11) I don’t hate Caitlin Snow. There have been several points in the show - whether it be an arc (her falling for “Jay” so soon after Ronnie’s second alleged death) or a couple episodes (3x15 - her selfishly keeping part of the philosopher’s stone for herself and not only not ever using it to try and get rid of her powers, but keeping it a secret and having basically no consequences for that fact). But in general? I liked her in season 1, and I like her now. It’s true that I’m conflicted now, because she hasn’t apologized to Iris about being onboard team Kill Iris w/ Savitar last season. But the Caitlin she is now is reminiscent of the Caitlin I loved in season 1, so mostly I’m good w/ her. (Besides snowstorm was my second top ship and killervibe is my fav friendship on The Flash. She’s obvs a huge part of both of those relationships.)

12) I don’t hate Danielle Panabaker. I high key disapprove of a lot of the things she said in season 1/2 interviews, and even when she maintains SB was on the verge of happening in season 1, I raise my eyebrows and scoff. But generally speaking, she seems like a sweetheart. I don’t believe it’s a facade the way I do with Shantel. I don’t think Danielle is a bad actress either.

*I’m sure there are more unpopular opinions I have, but these are the only ones that are occurring to me at the moment. I will think of more and reblog when I do.

1. Your first OC ever? i had this “RPC” who was just a naruto oc and her name was Kiki and she was rlly like over the top happy go lucky but had an angsty backstory bc i was emo and she was like blind in one eye but she covered her good eye with hair?? and she was an orphan I shipped her w like 6 different naruto characters #noshame

2. Do you have a personal favourite among your OCs? Charlotte is definitely my fave honestly !!! Second fave is Hayden tho (her brother, but actually hes my oldest current OC )

3. Have you ever adopted a character or gotten a character from someone else? YES!! And i haven’t used them bc im trash but i love them,,, i promise,,,,,, i just dont know what to do w them yet,,, 4. A character you rarely talk about? I have a lot of OCs like this, but the ones that are still alive are Luna and Lulu who r best friends, and i made them w my friend @papperie as like background friend OCs for hers!! 5. If you could make only one of your OCs popular/known, who would it be? ...this is a double edged sword bc ofc i want my favorite OC, Charlotte, to b most popular, but then she’s gonna get reinterpreted constantly and like i wouldnt be allowed to have her exactly how i want her? 6. The Masks We Wear (1/?)

(A/N: Heyyyy, this is your resident LL fanfic writer (that is mostly unnoticed), Lighkoda! Here’s the lay down:

This is a Muse super power AU. Actually, I’m not sure if it’s really an AU, but their universe will be changed as it goes/as they discover things, so it kind of is? This should be around PG at first, but it might escalate to T or T+. It’s a bit early to tell, but it may have some angst. The ships will vary. At this point, I’m still thinking about how this will go. Here is the link to the post I made about information concerning this AU, which will be tidied up a bit as the story goes on. Warning: May be cringy. And I probably will update very rarely... In fact I haven’t written for very long.

3rd POV

“Eh? We...we are?”

Rin smiled happily at Hanayo, closing her eyes blissfully.

“Mhm! We’ll be outside in tents. I’m so excited!!” She grabs Hanayo’s hands tightly and playfully leads Hanayo to spin in circles with her. “I hope we can share a tent together, Kayo-chin!”

Hanayo, flustered, blushes a bright pink as she considers the possibility of countless situations resulting in sharing a tent with Rin. But then she contemplates the situation, a shiver running down her back

“A-Ano, we’ll be outside?”

Rin stops spinning then and peers at Hanayo’s face closely.

“You don’t seem very happy about it, nya... Is there something wrong with being outside?”

Hanayo’s purple eyes widen for a moment before she closes them and waves her hands in front of her face frantically.

“No...no, not at all! You’ve got it wrong, ahahaha...” She laughs sheepishly.

Rin isn’t quite convinced, but she pulls back her face and her eyes settle on something else quickly.

“Ahhh, Maki-chan! You’re here!” She grabs Maki’s hand and leads her over to Hanayo, smiling warmly. “I was just talking to Kayo-chin about how fun it’ll be to go camping together, American-style, nya~!”

Maki struggles a little as she walks over.

“Let me go, Rin...!”

Rin pouts and looks into Maki’s eyes.

“Jeez, you’re such a spoilsport, Maki-chan!”

At this, Maki hesitates before replying heatedly.

“I-I am not! You’re just too riled up all the time for no good reason,” she says as she looks away from Rin’s liquid gold orbs, twirling her red hair around her finger.

All of a sudden, Maki feels a hand–no, a pair of hands–grasp her breasts from over her uniform.

“No need to be shy, Maki-chan,” Nozomi says as she smiles mischievously. “Or I’ll washi-washi you!”

Maki almost screeches like the first time Nozomi had done it to her. But she manages to keep her cool, and the only signs that she was surprised by the devilish tanuki is the widening of her purple orbs, the sudden intake of breath, the red coloring of her cheeks, and her shift in her heartbeat.

She scowls a bit before pursing her lips, slightly irritated by the third year’s antics.

“I wasn’t being s-shy...! You can let me go now...”

When Nozomi steps aways from Maki, she noticeably moves slightly away from her.

“Alright, if you say so,” the purple haired girl replies knowingly, casting a quick look at the seemingly affronted girl.

Maki crosses her arms, ruffled.

“So, where’s Eli? Aren’t you always with her?”

“Right!” Rin meows.

The three 1st years lean forward, waiting for the answer from Nozomi, who chuckles.

“The answer probably isn’t as interesting as you imagine. She’s in the bathroom, but she’ll be out soon. I suppose it’s much more interesting for me than for the three of you,” she mutters the last sentence distractedly as she shuffles her tarot card deck.

The trio cringes slightly.

“Do you think she meant to say that?” Rin whispers to Maki, who happens to be standing in the middle.

“I-I don’t think so, Rin-chan,” Hanayo whispers back timidly.

The corner of Maki’s lips twitch sporadically.

“I don’t think I can handle this,” Maki says quietly before she swoons slightly.

Rin and Hanayo place their hands against Maki’s back swiftly.

“No, Maki-chan! You musn’t, nya~!” Rin practically shouts in her ear while making sure Maki’s eyes are still open. It looks like Maki’s soul is about to leave her body, and Hanayo whisper-shouts to her.

“Maki-chan! W-We’re going to toast marshmallows by the campfire, you have to stay!”

At this, Maki’s soul suddenly is pulled back inside her and she stands upright again. She coughs a little, and blushes.

“W-Why did you say that. Hanayo-chan? It’s not like I’m not looking forward to toasting marshmallows or anything–only kids do that...”

Rin gives Maki a sharp look.

“Then why did you only come back once Kayo-chin mentioned marshmallows?”

Maki turned her face away, huffing.

“How should I-I know! It was probably just by chance.”

Rin nods, unconvinced.

“Sure, nya.”

Maki moves to face Rin and argue with her, but before she can do so, a voice calls them from down the hallway.

“Hanayo-chan! Rin-chan! Maki-chan! Oh, and Nozo-”

Umi interrupted as she chased after her orange haired friend, barely breaking a sweat.

“We get it, Honoka. Come on, we need to discuss plans! Stop running away.”

Honoka ran faster as she ran down the hallway and past the four girls, who swiveled their heads to watch Umi after Honoka faded out of sight.

“No, Umi-chan! Not unless you promise that we can bring marshmallows and crackers and chocolate to make s’mores, the American way! I’m always eating Japanese sweets, I want to try some American ones for once!”

Umi sighed as she ran right down after Honoka as she called to her.

“I told you, you’ll get fat! We’re school idols now, you have to take care of...”

“And there she goes,” Nozomi smiles placatingly with the air of a mother accustomed to her children’s antics. “Well, then, I suppose it can’t be helped...”

“Go, Honoka-chan!” Rin shouted after the pair excitedly, whose footsteps could be heard echoing down the halls of the school.

Hanayo and Maki sweatdropped as they stared after the duo running down the hallway.

“D-Do you think they’ll be alright?” Hanayo asked.

Maki chuckled quietly, “There’s no need to worry. I’m sure Umi-chan will work things out with Honoka-chan.”

“Eh... But I somehow get a nervous feeling. It’s like our senpai are really our kouhai,” Hanayo said.

“I guess we’ll just have to believe in them, won’t we~nya?” Rin responded cheerfully.

Maki thoughtfully continues to twirl her hair around her finger.

“Well, I guess that’s sometimes harder said than done. Ne, Hanayo-chan?”

Rin’s eyes flashed with a battle-like emotion as she stared at Maki, who stared right back.

“N-Nani?”

Rin suddenly threw her arms around Hanayo, showing an innocent smile.

“Let’s go find Kotori-chan! I heard she’s making the rooming arrangements. Let’s ask to share a tent!”

She grabs Hanayo’s hand and practically drags her out of the room, zooming out. Maki watches them, astounded, before getting up and chasing after them.

“Mou, Rin-chan! You can’t just abduct Hanayo-chan like that,” she pouts.

From outside the classroom, a warbly “dareka tasukete!” can be heard echoing down the hallways.
