Okay so like. I told myself that I would try finding more time to write bc the lack of the content I'm interested in in the GL tag is actually appalling to me so! I decided "I'll do lazy nanowrimo" because yay fun games (making a spreadsheet and tracking how much I write) and also like motivation.

So I was in my Google drive right and I saw the doc i use to put unrelated fic ideas and was like omg!!! Do you remember that fun tumblr au I talked about where hal lost to guy and wasn't a gl when coast city kicked it (before going full parallax mode after) I should write a quick outline for that so I dont forget it!!!!

WELL. I was writing the outline and got to the murder scene and then wrote "and then he was all like:" and then DIALOGUE came after that. Which evolved to a scene. Which sparked a super fun plot twist idea/surprise element that's just SOOOOO !!!!!!!!! and then my brain exploded. So now there are two parts to this creation aka the emerald twilight au which is very hal centric with some fun angsty parallax stuff (also guy is there. And then he isn't. Rip guy) and THEN there is part two which is whatever tf kyles intro arc is called *cues up Google machine* yeah idfk. Could of sworn it had a name though.

ANYWAYS part two would be that which originally I thought would be boring bc it would be pretty unchanged but BOY WAS I WRONG. I am not going to go into detail because I am going to force myself to keep this secret to hype myself up and give me motivation to write but let's just say do NOT underestimate the butterfly effect. 😼😼😼

Also like I realized writing the one scene I was like wait.... this is an emerald twilight au.... I'm trying to write a bunch in November..... if I finish this then I could actually post something for Emerald Twilight Weekend....... (ideal scenario)

Like im not counting my chickens there bc I have literally NEVER finished a single event piece I ever started (even when I had deadlines. Oops!) But like.... mayhaps..... 😏

doing two in one bc it's technically wednesday already idc lol - started a new wip I mentioned before (inspired by this video lol) and rn I'm rewriting what I wrote yesterday bc the past two days words were not wording and I hated everything I wrote, but I think I'm happy with it now haha I hope I'll manage to write it like I want to bc it's sooo good in my head istg haha

It started as a random idea, more like a throwaway thought, really. Tommy was just checking the weather for the next few days – his hot pilot boyfriend always likes to be prepared – while they were hanging out, and he casually mentioned that “it’s gonna be nice on Saturday, perfect barbecue weather,” which got Buck to mention how they often have family barbecues at Bobby and Athena’s. Somehow, the conversation spiraled, and Buck’s not sure who threw out a more concrete idea, but here they are now, standing side by side in Tommy’s kitchen, preparing food – Buck’s currently slicing veggies for a salad, while Tommy takes care of the meat – for the barbecue where they invited way too many people than Tommy’s backyard can probably fit. It really is nice weather, the sliding door leading from the kitchen to the backyard open and letting in warm sunshine and a soft breeze that makes the air feel cooler. They work in pleasant silence, the only sound is quiet music playing from the speaker, and Buck can’t help a fond smile when he hears his boyfriend hum along, so off-key Buck’s not sure he even knows the song, but it’s still adorable.

The silence is disrupted by the doorbell ringing, and before Tommy can even move, Buck is dropping the knife on the cutting board, wiping his hands, and sprinting towards the door, shouting an “I got it!” over his shoulder. He’s followed by an echo of Tommy’s fondly amused chuckles. So he’s a little excited, sue him – they haven’t had a family day like this in a while, and there was only one he brought Tommy to, all of their schedules not so easy to align. And today his whole family will be here, including their spouses and children, and Tommy invited a couple of his friends and their families, too, and it’ll be just a big, loud, chaotic get-together that he’s hosting with his boyfriend. Buck never hosted one of these before, and he’s really enjoying it so far, and he just wants everyone to have fun.

Mabel Shooting Star sweater update (Still WIP)

I am horrible at updating things

Made one sleeve. Love the colour scheme. Making the other one rn. I haven't sewn on the shooting star appliqué yet

I redid the collar. So many freaking times. I struggle to get the fit right for me (not really depicted. Istg I did it at least 4 times). The dark purple was too plain when I finished the sleeve. So I changed to a yarn that is multi coloured purple. I also didn't like the look of the collar so I did some adjustments. This is a pic of an older version.

The fit was a lot more boxier. I didn't like where the mesh sleeve started and how it looked on me. Try-on pic:

So I have to unravel all that to make it fit me much better. Basically no.1 was the first iteration of the panelling and no.2 is what I settled with as shown in the photo below:

Ngl. Not my favourite. It's definitely better but I do not like that crease. If there are simple solutions that don't involve me frogging the entire sleeve do let me know. Or maybe advice for future projects. Please help.

October-December 2024 Updates - XXY, Monster High & More!

Me when I remember I have a Tumblr & AO3 I wanted to run on a regular basis, but haven't done anything with either for roughly 3 months:

ANYWAY hi, I am back on Tumblr (and soon, AO3) to drop some MAJOR updates regarding what I've been up to in my absence, my WIP fanfics, upcoming fandom stuff (mainly art but also some general theory/headcanon/etc. posts), and generally what I'm up to for the rest of this year!

Lin! Where Have You Been, Loca?!

I've been doing a lot behind the scenes! During the spring and summer, I've been working on a script for a personal project of mine. All of my writing time had been committed to it -- I've got over 400 pages of script done since March 2023! I met some new friends and reconnected with old friends too, this summer was very social for me.

I'm currently attending my first semester of college (FINALLY), and it's going well! The adjustment period was very long and tiresome, but I feel a lot better about being on top of my schoolwork and keeping things balanced. Now if only my sleep could enter the equation...

Since August started, I haven't written much at all because I was taking part in a college summer program. I wanted to have at least one chapter and/or oneshot fic completed by October, and thankfully I've manage to achieve that! It's been genuinely refreshing to return to my fanfics, and they make me wish I didn't have to be away from them for as long as I did. There's also just been so many different franchises that I've re-entered obsessions with, and would love to share with all of you. So without further ado, let's get to it!

XXY - Chapters 8-14

I have officially completed the first drafts of all 7 upcoming chapters! Editing doesn't take me very long to do, and now that I'm better adjusted to my school/work/life balance, I've been able to manage my time a little better.

To all of you who have been waiting for new chapters since Chapter 7 released, I'm so sorry for making you wait! I honestly don't know how the time from last August to now went by so fast. I still check my email regularly and seeing support from old & new fans of the fic during its extended hiatus has really helped me get back into the swing of things.

To celebrate the occasion, I wanted to provide the names of the next batch of chapters, as well as their release dates. These release dates are final, and will only be changed under extreme circumstances (WHICH WON'T HAPPEN WORLD ISTG--!!!) or if I accidentally forget what day it is (which has happened before), and in that case it'll be posted within 1-2 days after the release dates I've listed below.

Chapter 8: Gladiolus - December 7th, 2024 Chapter 9: Hyacinth - January 7th, 2025 Chapter 10: Spearmint - February 7th, 2025 Chapter 11: Coriander - March 7th, 2025 Chapter 12: Hibiscus - April 8th, 2025 Chapter 13: Violet - May 7th, 2025 Chapter 14: Jasmine Tobacco (INTERMISSION) - June 7th, 2025

Per my Monster High fics, I will also be releasing cover art for Chapters 1-7 (since I didn't get to before) throughout November, leading up to Chapter 8's release. From Ch. 8 onward, cover art for the chapters will be released the same day & on the same update posts as their respective chapters. I hope you'll be looking forward to what I have in store!

Monster High AU Updates

My Monster High AU is back from the dead with plenty of goodies this October! This year I was planning to write, draw & release a lot more for the AU, but since I haven't been able to, I wanted to make up for it during Spooky Month.

I don't have definitive release dates for this, but I have plenty of stuff I want to share, so here's a list of everything I plan on releasing throughout the next few months:

Updated Character Art & Bios: Frankie, Draculaura, Clawdeen, Cleo & Lagoona (Fun fact, I'd had everyone but Cleo done all the way back in 2022, which is why the art style differed so much from more recent drawings I'd posted!)

NEW Character Art & Bios: Clawd Wolf, Howleen Wolf, the Timberwolfs (3 characters), & a surprise character!

NEW One-Shot (With Cover Art): Taking A Lycan To New Salem

NEW Art -- Two pictures from the text conversations in Trapped By The Rain

My original plan after the main 5 ghouls was to create & release the bios of the main mansters (Deuce, Heath, Jackson/Holt, etc.), but in light of the upcoming fic release, I wanted to shift my attention to Clawdeen's siblings and the rest of their pack first. I've spent a lot of time developing them, and a couple of these characters are from G2 & G3 who I've altered to fit into my AU as seamlessly as possible! After these bios release, I do intend on returning to my versions of the mansters, as well as rounding out the rest of the lead ghouls in the ensemble cast (Including (but not limited to) Ghoulia, Abbey, Twyla and Torelai).

Since my scripts are wrapped up for the most part, I do plan on having more frequent fanfic updates for the AU in the forseeable future. How frequent? I have no idea! But I'm absolutely making this AU update much more than once a year.

Gravity Falls -- Billtober & Upcoming Fanfiction!

That's right, one of my all-time favorite TV series has re-entered my mind and I cannot contain it! Believe it or not, before XXY AND my Monster High AU, I had been planning to debut on AO3 with a Gravity Falls fanfiction.

With all that The Book Of Bill & thisisnotawebsite.com have given us lore-wise, I've had a new and revitalized version of that old fanfic idea (Name TBD). Unfortunately, due to the lack of attention I've been giving the aforementioned stories I've been working on over the last couple of years -- and because I want to release chapters once the fic is completed -- I don't (and won't) have much, if anything, to report on it in the upcoming months.

To satiate my need to make something for the show, I decided to take up the Billtober challenge created by @dailybill-cipher ! I'll be working on my sketches sporadically over the next month or so, and will post 7-8 doodles for every week that I finish. Again, this will be sporadic, so I will post whenever I have completed my personal quota!

I also have an old OC for the series I made back in high school who was in DESPERATE need for some upgrades, and whenever I finish a drawing for him, I can't wait to share his design! He'll be in my fic, but only really at the beginning and end, with an appearance here or there as the plot demands it (which is not much).

Miscellaneous

I have a Miraculous Ladybug rewrite fic in the works, whose notes have been collecting dust on my cork board, but it's something I intend to begin working on again in the next year or so. I despised S5's ending, and therefore, will not be continuing to view the series proper. I stopped at S5, so anything that has released for it after S5's finale, excluding the movie (I forgot if it released before or after the finale), I haven't seen. And I don't intend to see (I'm allowing exceptions for what I've seen already, because I need to research for my fic). But I'm really looking forward to returning to this old draft and rejuvenating it!

I may do some art for Five Nights At Freddy's in the near future? Nothing guaranteed, but I do love the franchise, so it's not like I won't talk about it ever lol. Also, I was gifted a copy of The Week Before, which besides my movie poster is my only FNAF merchandise, and OOOOOOOOOOH BOY AM I EXCITED TO RAMBLE ABOUT IT AND EVENTUALLY LET MY RAMBLES ESCAPE MY DRAFTS.

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 is dropping in December...And I will make it everyone's problem (/j). I'm highly anticipating this one, the trailers make it look great!

Ending Notes

For now, these are the main projects that I'm working on. I'm be working really hard to be better at consistent updates and such, so hopefully I won't be away as long as I was unannounced.

He's No Bully, He's My Friend - Urban fantasy where the main character (Nie Huaisang) is homeless and comes across a pit bull that he befriends, and it turns out the dog is a cursed human (Jiang Cheng) with connections to MC's dead brother. It was a very emotional experience getting into the mindset and experiences of the character and their circumstances, and it's writing I'm very proud of.

Reality is Overrated - A "stuck in a dream world" fic inspired by the Superman plot "For the man who has everything" - Nie Huaisang wakes up in a world where he has his father, mothers, his brother and his brother's wife and children (all of whom are either supposed to be dead or never existed), and is told he has some memory issues because of an accident. His life seems perfect and happy, except for a single annoying man (Jin Zixun) who insists that none of it is real. This was such a fun story to think through and came together eerily well, and I'm very proud of it.

A Night at the Purple Peony - Nie Huaisang goes to an underground place geared toward those who enjoy the 'company of their own kind', disguised complete with mask so he can't be recognized. He meets someone and seduces them, then has some fun before they part - and finds out some time later that it's someone he knows. I enjoyed writing it SO MUCH even though it's mostly smut, and it launched me on a new ship that's become my happy little pool noodle (NHS/JZXun)

Mercy - I broke my own heart writing things istg. Nie Huaisang is given a 'gift' from Jin Guangyao that has him reevaluating his plans for vengeance against him for kiling his brother - so instead of continuing his plan to destroy the man and everything he holds dear, he gives him a quick death with his reputation intact. I delved into some heavy topics in this one (e.g. past child sexual abuse), but I think I did so well and respectfully, and got to do one of the things I enjoy doing most - exploring the relationship between Nie Huaisang and Jin Guangyao/Meng Yao.

A Knight in Shining Shop-Vac - A middle-aged man (Jiang Cheng) has been re-evaluating his romantic life and takes a chance on Grindr and he gets his first match - and the guy (Nie Huaisang) immediately asks if he knows a good plumber because his pipes are busted. The original premise was supposed to b more humourous, and though I have some humour in there, it's more about JC's confusion about himself, his longing for connection to another person, and how he and Nie Huaisang connect. It's a middle-aged baby-gay thing, and it's very dear to me - and I was honestly surprised at how many people enjoyed it too!

*** Honourary Mention to: The Catalyst - I decided to leave it out of the top 5 because it's still a WIP, but it's one I've been working on for almost as long as I've been in the Untamed/MDZS fandom and has been a true passion project of mine. Nie Huaisang accidentally comes across someone who gives him information that can change his world, and he ends up going on a quest to discover the truth - and learns many other things along the way. It's endgame romance/slow burn, but the focus is very plot-heavy and I'm really proud of so much of the writing and plotting in it :D

4 - Maybe I Waited Too Long - a doctors!marauders AU with Wolfstar and Jily. I had a laugh writing this one.

I always usually do, it’s one of the main reasons I love writing fics!! Without the interaction I wouldn’t bother posting istg!! People can be so kind and generous 🥺❤️

Probably number 5 because it has MCD and apparently made people cry? But equally, I did write 3 short fics about 31st October 1981 from Jily, Sirius and Remus’ POV and that was pretty heartbreaking/ ugly crying stuff.

Most of my fics have happy endings it’s probably a toss-up between We Can Be Heroes and Have Yourself a Merry Little Wolfenoot

I’ve only ever written one, a LOTR/Marauders crossover, and I actually had great fun trying to write it in LOTR style? Wolfstar are Éowyn and Faramir. It’s called Ithilin and Silmë (only wrote it because @therealrjlupin wanted it 💙)

Again, v hard to be objective aside from vague “it’s not great” stuff? I think it has improved with writing practice and with time.

18. thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I’ve done it in We Can Be Heroes - James speaks fluent Italian and Sirius speaks fluent French. As I can speak the languages it was ok, but I had to check with @constancezin to be sure the written French was ok!

I have a sudden urge to write a fic about Emily struggling and dealing with anxiety and agoraphobia after she returned to her life as Emily Prentiss, after being undercover for so long to get close to Doyle.

(I have too many WIPs already though, I haven't finished the fic I started yesterday and ofc I haven't slept at all last night. And I have been up all night two days ago too. Less than ten hours of sleep in three days is not a lot. My brain is fried, istg. Please send help...)

i've been tagged by the lovely @kitaychan but hun, YOU CAUGHT ME IN THE MIDDLE OF WRITING THE LAST PART OF MY FIC like how did you even time that lmao. ahhhh... wow. well, please keep in mind this line is very rough and will probably change. but anyways, here you go:

France releases a small noise of surprise. He wobbles, then whimpers. Embracing arms tighten, fingertips catching on suspenders. His whole body unwinds and loosens. He still smells like the sea.

istg this fic was supposed to be pure smut and then somewhere along the way i spilled a whole bunch of FEELINGS and HISTORY all over the damn place. help my word doc is a mess.

So do you think the writing team was villanizing the critics through the curious cat seeing how they were the ones who basically went all meta in pointing out plot holes and other talking points critics have been bringing up for years only for him to turn out to be a villain in the end and he needed to be destroyed? Cuz I feel like they were doing that. At this point rooster teeth's writing is starting to feel a bit spiteful which is funny considering how much they hate Adam who embodied spite.

Personally, I don't think the comparison extends that far. Meaning, I don't believe this is a case of, "The Curious Cat represents critics and now look, those evil critics die!" because that's just too conspiratorial, there's too little connection between the Cat/the fandom, the Cat was clearly always meant to be the Volume's baddie no matter what throwaway lines they were given, the writing team has a HELL of a lot more to worry about than what a small pocket of people are saying online, etc.

Case in point: the Cat's observations aren't actually what fans have been criticizing for years, at least not in my experience. I go into this in more depth in my recap (which istg I'm writing! lol) but almost no one cares about the ~implications~ of Ozpin and Oscar sharing a body, Atlas floating is a bottom rung concern when it comes to how the Relics are used, and Ciel is likewise inconsequential compared to other characters who have been forgotten by the narrative (Sun, Ilia, Neptune, Maria, Tai, Glynda, etc.). The only thing the Cat says that feels like it's accurately representing criticism of RWBY is the observation that it's impossible to keep track of so many characters.

So yeah, I do think it's a general dig at the less optimistic pockets of the fandom. The Cat's language in that scene -- "Characters" people returning in a "Notable way" -- conveys an awareness of RWBY as a fictional story that they don't otherwise demonstrate. From an in-world perspective, the Cat is talking about real people whose world they want access to... yet for this one, strange exchange they function more as the creator's mouthpiece, poking fun at those who have criticized a fictional, WIP webseries. Of course, it's only really fun if you're a) of the opinion that RWBY is pretty much perfect or b) are still enjoying it enough to laugh off a self-aware acknowledgement of its many problems. A lot of fans aren't in either category, hence it comes across as a little spiteful at worst, simply ignorant at best.

Despite what anti-rwde folks would have you believe, that tiny corner of the fandom is not bombarding the creators with harassment and, as said, professional writers have a lot more to worry about than browsing through a handful of tumblr blogs and one subreddit. I truly doubt they're on the up-and-up about complaints. So I think the Cat's observations demonstrate that they're aware that criticism generally exists (as any creator would be), but they don't know enough to accurately write about what fans are criticizing. They've picked random things that they believe people might feasibly be up in arms about -- "Omg you made a man live with a child in his body! Having a floating city when 95% of the monsters in this show can't can't fly is so stupid! How dare you not bring back this one-line character from six Volumes ago!!" -- with, as my writing there demonstrates, perhaps a dash of deliberately choosing kinda absurd "criticisms" because the whole point of this moment is for the audience to laugh at the Cat's overly-enthusiastic concern. So do I think that moment is meant to be a fictionalized and generalized rolling-their-eyes-at-critics moment? Yeah. Do I think that extends to the Cat's narrative purpose as a whole and we should read them as the metaphorical critics reaching their deserved end? No. There's pretty much no basis for that.

It is still frustrating though, especially given Volume 9 as a whole. If you are unhappy with RWBY after a two year hiatus and are questioning this filler season, having one of the new characters imply how silly it is to be worried about dropped concepts and too many characters isn't going to be received very well, regardless of whether it's just intended to be a joke.
