First of all if you say one Starwhat hates the other you failed the One Piece exam and you have to reread the whole manga or rewatch the whole anime and all following arguments that you make, anon, are invalid.

Of course that is not true but it always just feels so weird to read "They hate each other!" like no… they would die for each other. That is not hatred. The crew would not work if anyone hated anyone. They all reapect and love each other and that is part of the core of the story of One Piece

Anyway, I don’t ship ZoSan. Personally I don’t see the appeal, just like Anon but I understand why people find it appealing.

Like the admin of the whoishotterinanimepolls said, they have a rivalery. That i itself is always a huge pull for any ship. You can find it all over OP, YuGiOh, Dragon Ball and probably in every Sports Anime that ever existed. There is an excitement about someone focusing only on that one rival they want to top (😏). And the idea of them finding love with each other despite that rivalry is exciting.

There is tension, there is anger but there can also be a softness…

In my experience the rivalry even continues after they did the deed and I haven’t read many ZoSan fiction. It was a way to try understand the ship (it’s been a while, the tone might has changed).

Which is always a good plan. Read a couple of fanfictions because what are they but meta analysis packed in a story and sprinkled with romance?

Anyway, Zoro and Sanji are rivals but also friends and they need each other and they living in a small space like a ship…

So what if their sexualities aren’t "swords" and "anything female"? What if they actually have the hots for the other (and even if they are virgins… soon they won’t be … or maybe they will because all varieties are possible)? What if the other one makes them understand their sexuality (and we have no canon sexualities for anyone so all headcanons are equally valid)?

Because that is another thing, shipping is always "what if" ungil the author confirms it. And in Oda’s case chances are it will never happen.

That does not mean that shipping is invalid because again, it’s make believe, playing with dolls and having fun with a huge array of possibilities.

And it is always so personal.

In my experience, shipping is always influenced by the persons own ideas, preferences, experiences, hopes and wishes.

We don’t know them but maybe the 13 year old girl sees something in Zoro/Sanji that they don’t understand yet themselves but will help them to figure something out one day.

I guess it also helps that they are both attractive (they look good together) and people enjoy that with ships.

I guess it also helps that they were of the OG 5.

From the very beginning they had also been shipped with others and in all sizes and variations.

I mean in the end they have been standing next to each other at least a few times. That is more than some other OP ships have.

Can someone explain why so many people ship Zoro and Sanji? I mean, it's not even practical. First of all, they hate each other. Have you ever noticed that ever since season one of What If introduced Captain Carter, she's been showing up a lot more than Sam Wilson as Captain America? I once queationed it, which pissed off some Peggy stans on this site to the point where I had to alter the tags so I wouldn't have to deal with them.

Oh yeah I did, trust me, you’re not the only one. Many Sam or Steve or Bucky stans and, yk, Peggy antis here on tumblr noticed it, but her stans are just too stubborn to accept it.

In my humble opinion, I think Peggy is simply a better character for marvel to sell as cap (and not for the right reasons), which is why Sam’s cap hasn’t appeared in 2/3 years and all of Steve’s appearances were butchered.

Steve is noble, all about freedom and doing what’s right. He was a disabled son of immigrants who knew struggle and, in his own words, didn’t like bullies no matter where they came from, which means that doing what was right to him was more important than any government, any authority. Civil War is all about this characterization of Steve, and it’s why he was the perfect man for the job.

Sam is like Steve. He is a noble man who knew struggle and suffering growing up, who lost loved ones, his place in the world the moment he chose to follow what was right instead of what was ordered to him. He was ridiculed and beaten down, and risked losing it all multiple times, but that never made him back down. Plus, to add fuel to the fire, the higher powers would have never accepted him as Captain America because he’s black, no matter if Captain America himself passed the mantle to him, they wouldn’t have accepted him and still didn’t right up to the finale of TFATWS. Sam is perfect for the job and mirrors Steve as the perfect Captain America of his time.

Peggy is… well, she’s nothing of these things.

Yes, she’s a woman, and so everyone would be expected to find sympathy for her, to root for her, but aside from her stans no one actually does. Peggy has a support system and respect, like it or not, and she was relevant. She’s arrogant, she’s headstrong, and she doesn’t go against the system because she is the system. She’s not a minority, she never knew struggle, hell, she lived a comfortable life up until the war and after. And marvel can use her more than Sam or Steve because she’s not troublesome like them, she’s not going to rebel the system if not for selfish reasons or plot points. She’s not Steve, she’s not Sam, and she shouldn’t be, but at the same time Peggy should not be a Captain that marvel should enforce in their media over and over again.

As Erskine said, “Because the strong man who has known power all his life may lose respect for that power, but a weak man knows the value of strength and knows... compassion.” And while Steve and Sam don’t know strength in the sense that Erskine disregards, Peggy does. And if anything, she resembles John Walker.

Not to mention she is no character of her own, she’s simply the mixture of some characters thrown together in a cauldron, and in addition she’s a Mary Sue. She is a villain masked as hero, one that is convenient as a character and can be thrown from side to side as if she was some Y/N insert in an avengers fanfic.

Not only she has made more appearances than the current Captain America, but she managed to insert herself in the majority of What If…’s storylines, even more than actual main characters. Like, you want to tell me people actually want yet another episode about Peggy or with Peggy being a major character instead of Wanda, Loki or the main six avengers? No one does, not even the stans with a functioning brain. But Marvel will not stop, and whatever chokehold Hayley Atwell has on them will last until she’ll be satisfied with the colonization of all the possible marvel projects.

So ultimately, to answer your question: yes, I did notice Sam is being overshadow by a dusty side character that should have stayed dead back in 2016. You’re not alone, and I’m glad I’m not either. If you scroll on my profile you’ll soon find an old post of mine from last year, during the MoM era, where I was talking about this issue, and a Peggy stan went ballistic and on a rant on how I was using Sam as an excuse to hate on Peggy and justify Stucky. (Btw nice move altering the hashtags, I’ve done it too and it’s been a blessing for me.)

Richmond weird/funny interview idea.

I was going to write this as a fic but then realised I would have to try to figure out how y'all do awards shows and what they are called and gave right up.

So in AFL (Australian football), we have this awards night for the best player in the league that year and most of the other big awards (called the brownlow). It basically means all the biggest players in the league come together to this award ceremony. And on the red carpet, they do interviews and stuff for radio and tv. Pretty normal stuff. Most the time, it's what are you wearing, how do you think your year has been, who do you think will win blah blah. But there is this one segment a radio station came up with entitled 'sh*t brownlow questions', and the interviewer just asks completely random and stupid questions for fun. And it's hilarious because these players are just so out of depth with the random questions.

Now I cant get a Richmond version out of my head.

Like they go to an awards show, all dressed to the nines and there is some interviewer there who decides to ask random questions for entertainemnt on his channel, when all the guys are expecting the usual questions and it starts of pretty well and funny

Interviewer: Hey Dani, just a quick question. Would you rather fight 1 Isaac McAdoo sized duck or 100 duck sized Isaac McAdoo's?

Dani in his chipper demeanour: oh I wouldn't want to fight any version of Issac at all he is such a great guy, and I love him....

Dani suddenly going serious and grabbing the mic and looking straight down the camera: But if I had to chose, I would go 1 duck sized Isaac because 100 tiny Isaac's would be too many Isaac's, they would completly overwhelm you and tear you apart!

Interviewer: Hey Colin, just wondering do you do your tax returns as soon as you can or wait until just before the cut off date?

Colin going pale: oh no. When are the tax returns due? I don't know when the last time I did my taxes was......

Interviewer asking like this is going to be a football question: Hey Sam, we are getting to the serious end of the season now so I was was just wondering, who do you think will win..... this seasons Lust Conquers All?

Sam with his serious face at the beggining of the question laughing by the end: Oh Janet for sure but I think I would be a amiss if I didn't mention Jamie was robbed last season.

Interviewer: Hey Roy, just wondering.....

Roy barley glancing at him as he walks past: Nope not doing it, f**k off.

Interviewer: Hey Richard, so the big one is coming up, Wembley Stadium, 90 000 people, just wondering........ did you manage to get Taylor Swift tickets?

Richard without blinking: Yes, yes I did.

Any question asked of Ted, Ted is just ecstatic, takes it 100% seriously, and is generally happy to answer.

The interviewer joking pulls out a cross word from the paper and asks for some help from Beard. Two minutes later, he has a completed crossword, and he just looks at it in astonishment.

Then the interview goes off the rails a little.

The Interviewer asks Jamie a random queation about history but instead of stumping him Jamie lights up and peoceeds to give an in-depth answer with alarming detail and the interview now knows more than he ever needed to on the subject. (This makes Roy even more unhappy because Jamie is now going to 100% talk his ear off about this for the rest of the night, just info dumping on him. Let be real he secretly loves it)

Interviewer: Hey Moe, just wondering if you had an opinion on the election in (insert random country here, most people wouldn't know about the elections of).

Moe: automatically goes into lecture mode about democracy and the evil's of government  and gets so passionate and loud aftet 5 minutes of it Issac needs to come and save the reporter who eyes are as wide as saucers and is questiong everything.

Like, I can just imagine the chaos of the AFC and their personalities in a segment like this. The fans would go crazy for it, too

I know you aren't continuing this series, at least not currently, but it is probably the best rvb fanfiction I've ever read, and part of that is your Fed and Rebel characters.

Hi there. The answer to your question might not be satisfying in the way you’re hoping, but I’ll give you the information I can on this, and a little bit of insight into the thought process on these.

As a general rule, the New Republic wore tan as their main color and the Feds wore white as their main. This is directly from the show and differentiates the two armies from each other. While there is the potential for mixing in the future, as things stand, their main color represents loyalty, which is why neither Felix nor Locus ever wore Chorus colors.

Secondary colors denote jobs, while this could have just been an aesthetic choice, I latched onto purple being medical since Grey and Doc both ended up in the medical field. This means that purple is HEAVILY represented in Finding Washington as a color, because when you've got people falling from space and bouncing across the planet, well, they need a lot of medical personnel. I recognize that this isn’t perfect, given North and South are both in purple, but Freelancer is very different from Chorus, and it doesn’t really count.

As far as ethnicity goes, this is where mental worldbuilding takes over and isn’t necessarily going to be satisfying in the way you’d like. It’s also…well, I started this project nearly a decade ago at this point, and I wasn’t as conscious of things as I probably should have been when I started my worldbuilding and writing.

The short story is, anyone who isn’t a high-ranking Fed is a person of color/a member of a minority community, but in true Red vs Blue fashion, I’ve tried to leave specifics up to the imagination with very few exceptions as to not interfere with the longstanding tradition of facecanons.

Characters like Paez and Doyle are going to look very white and if asked would be able to trace their lineage very clearly back to the families they came from on earth. This might also be true of Grey, but would be true for anyone who could potentially end up in a position of authority in the Federal Army.

This would have eventually been important as a part of the overall backstory for the war on Chorus.

Originally, Chorus was a science outpost, but it was a military science outpost on the edge of habitable space. This is also a ‘science outpost’ that has a full city with railways and skyscrapers. In order for a location like this to operate, with this many military bases and this large of a city so far away from standard shipping and transport, Chorus needs to be completely self-sufficient.

I live near a military base in the US, and they rely heavily on the civilian town they’re attached to in order to keep the base going, but also on transport from other areas.

What would it be like to have to rely entirely on the self? It would be incredibly important that Chorus be able to sustain itself for years if necessary without outside interference. Meaning, Chorus needed enough inhabitants to work in agriculture, textile production, building and maintenance, etc. They needed enough people to increase the population and account for deaths from illness, injury, and natural causes.

Meaning they'd need to bring in families to work.

They needed people who would be less likely to be missed if they weren’t ever able to go back home.

Meaning the poor, lower class, and laborers.

They needed a way to make sure that the people in charge stay in charge.

Meaning hierarchy.

On top of having military hierarchy there would be military contractors who work for the military, but would not have been actual government employees, and below them would be the hired laborers meant to keep the planet functioning.

An example of this is Kimball. Unlike Doyle, who’s position was granted to him because he was the secretary of the Brigadier (a position he was given due to his family), Kimball was born to a family of field workers and rose through the ranks due to her hard work, tenacity, and devotion to the New Republic.

As a general rule, the rebel army is smaller because the people in it were seen as more expendable to the Feds, especially early on, and there was not a small amount of total eradication in an attempt to keep the population under control. Martial law, curfews, imprisonment without trial, and medical modification were all commonplace for those who were not in the ‘proper’ military hierarchy.

When I first started writing, it made sense to me that the people being oppressed were people of color and minorities, because that has been a running, real world experience. I don’t know how present this is in the text as written, but it was in the back of my mind as I was writing, for better or for worse.

The big problem with this is that these characters were not written with sensitivity or research in mind. They are in a far distant future, most of them were raised on a very insulated planet where the population was about the size of New York, and had very little opportunity to change their careers or continue their education or anything like that. I will not say that looking back, I didn't use that as an excuse to not do my proper research into this area, and it's something that still bothers me about FW.

Individual cultures are present, such as Smosna being outwardly and proudly Jewish or Habisch openly wearing a hijab, but I will freely admit that I did not do the proper research into cultural worldbuilding that I should have done for something like this.

I can tell you that Kimball is a black woman with dark skin and long, thin braids that she styles when she is out of uniform, though that is a rarity that she gets the opportunity due to her position. Smosna is a Jewish woman, and I have always envisioned my version of her with darker skin, a prominent nose, and dark hair that she regularly dyes into pink. Danvers has darker skin and a single brown eye.

Armor Colors are assigned based on work positions in the Federal Army and some of that is present in the New Republic, but they do tend to float a bit more than the other army.

Names are also something that are a little ephemeral in regards to the characters as well. Several of the characters have multiple names, chosen names, and gifted names. One character in particular has a complicated backstory about her name, specifically because she stole it from a dead soldier.

But realistically, if the name isn’t listed, I don’t think they had another name yet. The only character I’m certain I did have a first name for was that didn't end up published yet was Ramirez, because he didn’t have anyone friendly enough with him to call him by his less formal name.

sorry if this is a dumb question but doesn't everyone on the planet have PTSD symptoms? it just seems like a normal part of life. if everyone has it then no one has it right?

Not a dumb queation, but it is absolutely not a normal part of life. It's more common than people think, sure, but there are still millions of people out there who do not have a single PTSD symptom, or any trauma in any form at all. I think on Tumblr and stuff we mostly just interact with other mentally ill people, so it's easy to forget there are plenty of people who don't deal with any kind of mental health problems, and that they're actually the majority.

So yeah, there are many, many people who do not have PTSD. And even if hypothetically everyone did, it's still something that causes a lot of suffering and dysfunction, and there are still plenty of treatments and strategies that help alleviate that. If everyone in the world had a broken bone, we wouldn't stop putting casts on people or talking about broken bones.

Unfinished Business - WrymLore

As some of you may know, I was in the Sonic.exe fandom for a brief stint of time. I created art for several people, write lyrics for songs (sadly all FNF), and even created my own exe, WrymLore.

However, I have found a new calling within this Locasol Project, and I no longer have the motivation for continuing with the WyrmLore story. It had a lot of plans, but I was too scared to release it publicly because of what I was seeing at the time.

I believe that with the right people/person, it could become a new entree within the fandom. Not only does it morph and break several tropes, but it would also take the form of many genres to tell a single story: writings, audio, cards, rpg, video, animation, games, etc.

I am young, and cannot do most of these things, but I know there are people who can. Therefore I offer this challenge.

As WyrmLore was designed to be built alongside the fandom, new ownership will be decided by a contests.

There’s something about Christmas that is just so special and it deserves all its hype, in December where it belongs, or in my case usually January because that always seems to be when my friends and I can get together for our annual Friendsmas

2. I do like to write! Sometimes I psych myself out into thinking I’m not that good but I keep doing it so 🤷‍♀️ As far as reading goes, I don’t remember that last time I read an actual book. I know terrible. I like the idea of reading but I don’t have the attention span for it. I think that’s why I like fanfiction so much (I’ve read fanfic for yeeeears) because you’ve already got the basics, you know the characters, and you can just jump right into the good stuff. Maybe one of these days I’ll do better and read a good book or even better find a series I like

3. In my free time I am torturing myself with more needles as I have started my next scrunchie hopefully this one turns out good too 🤞 I like art stuff in general but again I’m just mid at most things so it’s just dabbling here and there

4. Horror is by far my favorite genre of movie there’s so many good ones! But to just name a few favs that pop into mind: Event Horizon, Ghost Ship, 13 Ghosts, An American Werewolf in London, aaaannndd the 1985 movie House, among many many others. As far as Greta in horror movies I never really thought about it but now that you have my gears grinding it would be hilarious to see them in a situation like Cabin in the Woods considering that movie already plays on the horror stereotypes. I think Josh would be the scholar, Danny would be the athlete, Sam would be the fool, and Jake would be the whore (come on now 😏). I think they would fare pretty well in supernatural based movies but make obviously stupid decisions to get themselves all killed in slasher movies

Also you didn’t ask me this but my mind is off in its own world now. I’m also a huge Scooby-Doo fan and wouldn’t a Greta X Scooby cross over be so fun!

I dont play twisted wonderland, but I wanted to make something for this fandom from reading multiple yan!twst. I kept most things vague, but if I got something wrong about a character tell me. One day when I am finally able to change my phone the first thing i would do is download this game TvT

Imagine just a small child was the one who gets taken into twisted wonderland rather than Yuu. The small child doesn't even know where she was as the cat who was surprised kept bugging her with question after queation about how you got here and such.

You cant answer, you didnt even have the answers as you just remember falling asleep on your bed peacefully only to wake up in a huge box opened by a cat.

A talking cat at that.

Dear the stress you gave to the poor thing when you suddenly grabbed the cat's cheeks and just pulled them. Made the poor cat yell in pain.

Crowley found you soon after, shocked to see a small child here in twisted wonderland! As he too started to ask where your parent was and how did you get here even berating the cat for being you here. (The cat Grim just continued to vehemently deny that he was the one who brought you here!!) You could not answer the man, just cheerfully telling the man that you were sleeping in your bed only to wake up here.

After realizing that he can't get any answers from your Crowley just picked you up in his arms as he called the other teachers to his office. 

The other teachers were also surprised when they saw you in Crowley's arms. They had wondered why the headmaster suddenly called for an emergency meeting and expected a few things may have gone wrong or some sort sure...

but a kid??

Sam jokingly asked if you were Crowley's kid that he never told anyone about which Crowley pointedly denied. He soon explained what had happened.

The teachers tried to push you for answers, some almost demanding you to give them till you burst out crying for feeling so much pressure. Professor Mozus suddenly took you away from Crowley's arms comforting you in his arms trying to shush as he glared at the other teachers for being so pushy to a small kid.

Slowly they found out that you were from another realm, not from here and that they cant just easily send you off to your home.

Your family probably thought you were kidnapped at this point!

Crowley had an idea of sending you to an orphanage while he research a way to get you back to your home but reasons aroused that made it impossible to send you away like that.

That the teachers were forced to take care of you.

That would not be a problem at all…. sure…

Who will be taking care of the kid?

It was Mozus who spoke first at the silent atmosphere saying that he would be the one taking care of you tho he would probably occasionally need help if his teacher's duty kept him busy and that was fine with others.

A lot of students were shocked to see you in professor Mozus's arms most of the second years and up have to blink multiple of times or rub their eyes shocked to see a kid with the professor much less smiling at the old guy. The fact that he was also smiling at you made many students believe that this was either a dream or an illusion some choosing to forget the whole thing.

Well, as if that was possible when you follow the old guy to class listening in on the lessons... Listening to the old man or occasionally be seen drawing something while the old man would yell at the student who stared at you for too long.

Sometimes they found you to be with other teachers who looked rather awkward to the fact that they had to watch you. Sometimes they would yell only to hold their tongue when they realize a small child was there in their classroom and might cry like she did last time and they won't be able to fix the situation.

But time went by they grew more and more attached to you. They started to often fight on who you would stay with when Mozus was busy, not only that they started to ask Mozus if he ever wants rest they could help him watch over you. It was suspicious when they do that for Mozus who always deny their offer preferring to be with you than let others take care of you.

It was even annoying when Crowley started to ask Mozus if he could take care of you at that point Mozus's cat would hiss at the headmaster wearing a crow mask daring him not to go near you or even touch you.

Lucius was also the same with the students hissing at those who wanted to talk to you. The more curious students would often try to get close to while the teacher is teaching to ask who you were and if you really were the daughter of professor Mozus or any other questions that had to deal with the rumors floating around not before they were caught by a teacher and shooed away from you.

There were many rumors floating around about you and since they can't go near you and the teachers all give mixed or vague answers none of those rumors were able to be put to rest.

There were rumors where people thought that you were the daughter of Professor Mozus who gave his daughter to the other professors to take care of her every so often. That somehow Professor Mozus had either fallen in love or had a one night stand incident or just something when tho almost nobody could believe that.

Professor Mozus would often smile if asked if you were his daughter about it not denying or accepting the rumors to be true, while other teachers would quickly deny any claims of it which only made things all the more suspicious really. (Tho everybody saw the sour face professor Mozus had when asked about the mother.)

Mozus would get you to wear a more sophisticated look with dark colors and frills occasionally he would make you wear a more pastel lolita style, it makes you look as if you were really the daughter of Mozus which the professors absolutely dislike. So whenever they got you they would quickly swap your outfit that Mozus picked into something more their style. Crowley probably has a small mask and coat that is similar to his when he would make you wear as you go around campus carried in his arms as you giggled at how ticklish the feathers on the mask were.

When you are in Divus's hands you would be wearing a small white fur coat as he told you to straighten your back and chin up. The professor tries to make you a model somtimes and would nag you to keep the jacket on even when you feel stuffy. While Sam would make you wear clothes oh his color tones with an added skull as you try and help around the shop (most things he wouldn't dare you to touch would be placed on the high shelves). Same for Ashton where he would make you wear something of sports wear.

At some point, the professors started fighting for your attention trying to get you to come them that day with promises, candy, toys and even more. The students who have seen this happening cannot believe their ears so much so that they again choose to believe that all this was a dream and nothing more, choosing in the end to forget what had happened and when somebody talks about it they block their ears and started a shout as if doing that could deny them the reality of what has happened.

It was never said that Crowley stopped seaching for a way for you to go back. They didnt want you to leave having grown so attached to you, they wanted to be with you, they wanted you to stay while they became your official guardians.

So when you started to cry wanting to see your parents, they will soothe you by telling you that it was alright, that it was okay that they would be with you and that they would never abandon you. They would not disappear like your parents did and they would love you more than your parents ever did.

Really it is rather often that some of the teachers would fight over who actually becomes your father, sure all of them became your guardians but who is like your father? Sam is alright being your uncle so long as he was your favorite uncle but like it was never decided who is your father…

Okay, I know that the Spones content in Bread and Circuses has been talked about before, so I’m likely adding nothing new. But heck with it, I’m talking about it anyways cause it’s just too good not to!

The episode has Spock and McCoy somewhat saltier towards each other than usual. From the second the episode resumes after the opening credits, they’re snarking at each other almost immediately. It goes on for so long that we have the guest character outright ask Kirk if they’re enemies, and even he isn’t for sure. It’s almost like one of the writers anticipated the fact that some would legit think that the two genuinely hated each other, and decided to ask the question. For the most part, their banter is mutual and they’re clearly trying to rouse a reaction from the other.Even when at gunpoint, McCoy just HAS to snap at Spock for “[being] so blasted honest?’. Spock’s raised brow to me almost came across like ‘really doctor? must you be like this now?”. It’s got some amusing stuff, like the banter in the beginning and McCoy of all being being the one to suggest illogic regarding sun worshipers has Spock giving some utterly hilarious facial expressions. But still, the banter goes enough that event he audience has to ask: are these two truly enemies.

The rest of their scenes answer the question.

During the gladiator fight, McCoy’s still so pissed off that even fighting to the death won’t stop him from yelling at Spock when he asks if he needs help. Stress and you know… trying not to die is a factor, but still. But since McCoy’s a doctor, not a warrior he’s about to be killed… until Spock takes out his own opponent and nerve punches McCoy’s before he can be harmed. Doing this breaks the rules and Kirk chooses to take what would be their death sentence upon himself. Spock acted on pure instinct in that instant. Or even more bluntly, it was an emotional response. He interfered because he didn’t want McCoy to die, and he was the only one in a positon to save him. He even seems pretty started that he did so. But because of i, now Kirk is going to die in their places and neither he nor McCoy can do anything about it. He outright pulls at the cell bars, according to McCoy, fifteen times. Logically it’s pretty clear that it’s not working.

With this, McCoy’s now cooled down enough that he legitimately tries to thank Spock for saving him. It’s awkward, neither one are very good at having heart-to-hearts with each other. Spock pretty much acts like it’s the usual banter and kind of condescendingly before telling him to get to the point, which causes McCoy to just snap it out at him. Spock tries to go into the usual ‘I’m a logical Vulcan’ spiel, saying quote:

Spock: Oh, yes. You humans have that emotional need to express gratitude. You're welcome, I believe, is the correct response. However, Doctor, you must remember I am entirely motivated by logic. The loss of our ship's surgeon, whatever I think of his skill, would mean a reduction in the efficiency of the Enterprise and therefore-.

Which is what finally gets McCoy pissed off enough to directly confront him about it. Why? Because he knows that Spock’s spitballing here. He’s trying to deny his emotional responses, despite having demonstrated it at least twice with McCoy right there for both of them. Saving McCoy despite knowing the consequences of doing so was an emotional response. Trying to escape the cell due to Jim’s life being in danger despite all efforts failing is an emotional response. He tries to say it’s just due to professionalism, but at this point there’s been enough episodes that the audience knows that that’s not true. McCoy absolutely knows it. He knows how Spock tends to keep his emotions suppressed and deny that he even has them, even though he very clearly does. It is a factor that has continuously frustrated McCoy. He’d never force Spock to be outwardly emotional, Plato’s Stepchildren made that VERY clear. But when it DOES happen and Spock tries to act otherwise? And after having dealt with this for nearly two years now? Yeah, McCoy decides that he’s had it as he grabs Spock, turns him around so that they’re making clear eye-contact, and makes his opinion VERY clear.

McCoy: Do you know why you're not afraid to die, Spock? You're more afraid of living. Each day you stay alive is just one more day you might slip and let your human half peek out. That's it, isn't it? Insecurity. Why, you wouldn't know what to do with a genuine, warm, decent feeling.

Which… he’s not entirely wrong. Even during this, Spock turns away from him like he doesn’t want to talk about it. But McCoy’s right. Spock’s been at war with his Vulcan and human halves for his entire life. He chose to suppress the human half, and it peaking out does concern him. He isn’t able to settle two sides, hence why he’s always insistent about being a logical, unfeelign Vulcan. Now we all know that Vulcans DO feel things. Very strongly in fact, hence why they suppress it to begin with. But I do think it’s safe to say that Spock is afraid of expressing or even talking about his emotions. Whenever he does, he needs to get his grip back on the Vulcan side as quickly as possible. Even though he knows that McCoy knows otherwise. McCoy is pretty damn good at picking up on Spock’s emotional state and Spock knows it. And I think to at least an extent, he knows that McCoy’s correct. McCoy might be being too harsh admittedly, but the point is there. Spock is afraid of letting his human half slip out and the constant struggle of keeping it in check.

I think this is what makes their relationship so important. McCoy’s really the only person who can provoke Spock like this. Sure Kirk can normally reach out to Spock, but he’s not as likely to directly confront Spock and be blunt about it the same way that McCoy can. Spock’s also really the only person who’s ever been able to provoke McCoy and get him think past his own perspective the way that he does. It’s vitriolic in many ways. Like I said, it’s hard for them to really be civil with each other most of the time. Even here when McCoy did try to start off as civil when he tried thanking Spock, it ultimately devolved into another argument. Even McCoy expressed that he isn’t sure why it’s always like this when he says “ I know we've had our disagreements. Maybe they're jokes. I don't know.” But I do think that the episode demonstrates the answer to the queation of if they’re enemies. The short answer is no. The long answer is that they have a very complicated relationship that on a surface level, comes across as hatred. It gets to the point where even they aren’t fully sure. But the truth is they do care about each other greatly. They understand each other a great deal. They’re the only ones who can reach out to the other. The way that they show it is unorthodox sure, but it’s how it works for them.

And even when they are particularly heated, it always ends with them coming down from it and finding a point of unity. In this case, there is absolutely one thing that they can agree on.

Spock: Really, Doctor?

McCoy: I know. I'm worried about Jim, too.

While their concern for Jim is true, I think McCoy brought used that more as a way to bring them both back down after the exchange. Jim and his well-being is very much the one thing that they can agree on. I serves as a calming down point for them n this particular instant. After this while they don’t have anymore direct interactions, they seem to be on good terms and even enter the Bridge together at the end. They still have their heated moments in later episodes such as The Paradise Syndrome and The Tholian Web. But I think that for those who really do think that Spock and McCoy hate each other, I’d say watch this episode again and give their interactios a closer look. Especially the prison scene. Because it shows that for all their banter, for all their differences, there is a strong connection that is very much uniquely them.

you had moved to the BAU about a year ago now, and you and spencer had started going on dates a few weeks ago. you made it official last week, and you were still on cloud nine. spencer was just the perfect guy, nothing like any of the boys you dated before. he was going on 25 now, and you were only a few months younger, so the BAU team were constantly doting on you both, the BAU babies. well, everyone except elle. who seemed to hate your guts.

maybe it was because you were another woman? internalised sexism was common among women her age, but you didn’t dare say that aloud. you’d probably get slapped. so you just kept your head down and ignored the daily glares you got.

but as time moved on, elle became more blunt about her dislike of you. instead of glares, it became shoves and harsh nudges. then that became snarky comments. never around spencer, though. or really around anyone. she might let the odd comment slip around gideon, but that was only because he wouldn’t get involved. no, when she harassed you, she usually did it in private.

but even that became less of a priority, making comments about you behind your back now as well, to JJ or Derek or anyone who would listen. she would always make it out as though she was ‘just kidding’ or ‘only being honest,’ which didn’t help. you didn’t know for a fact she was talking about you behind yo back, but you could put two and two together. especially when the team gave you sympathetic looks whenever elle said or did something.

but one day, spencer finally began to realise that elle’s ‘helpful’ comments were actually hurting your feelings. he wasn’t great at social cues, but the more elle spoke, the more upset you seemed to get, so it didn’t take the genius long to figure it out.

after a brief consultation with JJ, where he could make sure he wasn’t imagining this problem in his head, he went to cut off elle was she walked towards the kitchenette.

“oh hey spence. what’s up?” elle asked, and he frowned at her, “i need you to leave y/n alone.”

“what? what are you talking about? what did she say to you?” she folded her arms, and spencer folded his arms too, to match her pose, “she didn’t have to say anything. i’m not stupid, you know, i know what you’re doing. your backhand comments are hurting her feelings, and i won’t have it.”

she scoffed, “i’m not doing anything. besides, if a little constructive criticism hurts her feelings, that’s it my problem. i’m only being honest.”

“no, no you’re not. i didn’t believe anyone was perfect until i met her,” spencer glared down at elle, “this doesn’t have to be a big thing. i’m not going to go to hotch. yet. but if you keep this up, i will not hesitate. i won’t let anyone hurt her, with words, or otherwise.”

elle just watched as spencer stormed away, as the rest of the office turned their heads away, having previously been staring at the confrontation.

you wondered why spencer was in a stormy mood all day, and why elle wasn’t even looking at you anymore. even after interrogating JJ, she wouldn’t budge, so you had to go straight to the source.

you intervened spencer when he was going to the kitchenette to grab his lunch, “hey.”

he forced a smile, “hey.”

“you’ve been in a bad mood all day. wanna tell me what’s up?” you asked, wanting for him to open up. he raised a brow, “a bad mood how?”

you shrugged, looking away from him, “i don’t know, you just seem off. not talking as much, not coming out with as many interesting facts, and whenever i look at you, you’re brooding. you can tell me what’s on your mind. if you want.”

his hand slipped into yours, and led you down the hall instead of towards the kitchen area. you walked until you reached penelope’s cave, stepping inside a after him and watching as he closed the door.

“why didn’t you tell me about what elle was saying?” he folded his arms as he asked. you quickly looked down to your feet, before back up to him as you tried to muster up a facade, “i don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“that’s a boldface lie. JJ told me everything when i asked her. why wouldn’t you tell me about how you were feeling? about how she was making you feel?” he asks angrily. his anger quickly disappeared though, when he saw the tears in your eyes, “because it’s stupid.”

“it’s not stupid. it’s borderline harassment– no, you know what, it is harassment. i’ve half a mind to go to hotch right now and tell him what’s been going on,” he said forcefully, not wanting to upset your further, just to reiterate how serious he was. that didn’t work though, as a sob wracked through your body, “i don’t want that.”

he frowned, sighing before enveloping you in a hug and rubbing your back as you cried. he shushed you softly, resting his head atop yours and letting you cry as much as you needed.

after a minute, you wiped your face and sniffled, “it’s not a big deal. i can’t go running to hotch that elle is saying things that are ‘hurting my feelings’. we’re not preschoolers.”

“don’t invalidate your emotions like that. she’s been belittling you, and like it or not, that’s bullying and harassment, and can result in a suspension, maybe even a transfer,” spencer pointed out, before raising his hand as you went to speak, “but i know you don’t want that. what my issue is, is that you didn’t come to me.”

you sniffled again, “you’re a genius with an IQ of 187, and a doctor in the behaviour analysis unit of the FBI. why should you have to deal with the fact that i’m a little insecure?”

he cupped your cheeks, “maybe because i love you? if i had known what was going on, i would’ve moved heaven and earth to stop it. dont belitte yourself like that. you mean everything to me.”

you smiled up at him, “i love you.”

“i love you too,” spencer leaned down to peck your lips, “and don’t worry. i won’t let elle bother you again.”

i present my thesis as follows:

🦞 the animal friends are some of the few ‘normal’ earth animals we see on popstar, with the rest being alien species (i.e. grizzo)

🦞 the animal friends are the only ones aside from dark matter and kirby (heavily implied to bear a direct relation to the former, mind) to be able to use the copy ability, with zero explanation given as to Why.

🦞 they’re introduced in the first and second installments of the dark matter trilogy, in which the fucked up eyeballs in queation are obviously the namesake focus antagonists, but are notably absent from the third game.

🦞 said third game includes an implied post-apocalyptic earth expy in the form of shiver star. which includes a stage with a laboratory. said lab has mundane earth animals like cats and birds and hippos kept in test tubes for experimentation purposes

🦞 the 64 concept art included test tubes with ordinary popstar aliens kept inside (a tick and a waddle doo) but this was changed in the final game for whatever reason???

🦞 which leads me to the hc that the experiment in question was possibly a study of the copy ability (whether by haltmann & co, or human scientists, or whomever. leaning towards the former, though) and how it could be potentially replicated in other alien test subjects, i.e. shiver star’s native animals. by genetically modifying their biological makeup.

🦞 i don’t think the animal friends were directly experimented on themselves, though. more likely descended from the original subjects who were dumped onto some planet of so-called primitive savages where Nothing Ever Happens TM

(i’m planning on replaying DL3 in addition to 64 over winter break so if i’ve found more stuff that i’ve noticed or evidence to support all this i’ll be sure to update 👀)
