okay i'm glad i can finally read other books and still enjoy them but the enjoyment is so mild compared to when i read tlt. i literally cannot reread tlt for multiple weeks if i want to read another book. for me reading tlt, to quote john, is like getting meth injected into your eyeballs

This post has sent me down a rabbit hole, I read it literally hours ago and I'm only getting to reblogging it now. I don't even remember what I originally was going to put in the tags, so instead I'll tell you the story of the journey you sent me on. I was thinking back to that scene, thinking how cool it was. Both of them firing guns while time is stopped. Then they both tire themselves out and just stand there with guns pointed at each other, trying to catch their breath. Time resumes and bullets fly everywhere. They narrowly miss both of them and destroy everything around them. So, I looked up the scene, which then made me want to watch the movie again. Also, I realized that not only are her guns literally just dolled up muskets but her musket balls are also very fancily decorated. Then I got to thinking about how Mami's guns are made. I could have sworn that they came out of her skirt, they don't, I mean they can but that's not how they're made, she makes them with ribbons. But I was so sure that at least once, she did make her guns come out of her skirt, and I would NOT be proven wrong by the only thing I can dare to say I'm an expert in, the thing that I am the most obsessed with. So, I started rewatching the anime and then I would watch Rebellion again. I was right by the way, kinda, in episode 2 she makes her guns appear from under her skirt. She often makes her guns appear from her clothing, considering she makes her guns from ribbons, that makes sense because in battle that would be where they could be most conveniently. Anyway, watching the anime again really revived my obsession with pmmm. Don't get me wrong, it never really went away because, as anyone who sees stuff from my blog, ever, would know, I reblog a lot of pmmm fanart, in fact I think that's what most of my blog is. (Looking back at my blog, most of my recent reblogs haven't actually been pmmm but anyway) Even so, it brought back that dumb fuzzy feeling in my chest because I guess I just wasn't appreciating it as much as I was before. So thanks I guess. Also congrats if you actually read this far, I don't know why you would, I wish I could give you a cookie or something for reading my ramblings.

the homura and mami fight in rebellion is so good cause they throw away like 500 guns in that ordeal and one of them is a teenage girl magically pulling dolled-up muskets from thin air and trying to use them in close combat while the other is a teenage girl also pulling guns from seemingly thin air but theyre all normal guns stolen from the japanese military that she just had on her person and im not sure which is funnier

"hello, i am here to talk to you about the incident from a few minutes ago, because i feel you might be unwell, and i am invested in your personal wellbeing." "thank you, i am unwell because the incident was hurtful to me due to my childhood, which was bad." I CANT!!!!

do you know how many people are mad that authors use "growled" as a word for "said"? it's just poetics! they do not literally mean "growled," it's just a common replacement for "said with force but in a low tone." it's normal! do you hear me!! help me i love you please let me out of here!!!

My biggest tip for fanfic writers is this: if you get a character's mannerisms and speech pattern down, you can make them do pretty much whatever you want and it'll feel in character.

Logic: Characters, just like real people, are mallable. There is typically very little that's so truly, heinously out of character that you absolutely cannot make it work under any circumstance. In addition, most fans are also willing to accept characterization stretches if it makes the fic work. Yeah, we all know the villain and the hero wouldn't cuddle for warmth in canon. But if they did do that, how would they do it?

What counts is often not so much 'would the character do this?' and more 'if the character did do this, how would they do it?' If you get 'how' part right, your readers will probably be willing to buy the rest, because it will still feel like their favourite character. But if it doesn't feel like the character anymore, why are they even reading the fic?

Worry less about whether a character would do something, and more about how they'd sound while doing it.

Oral tradition of storytelling predates written ones by millennias, and honestly, which one you like is just a personal preference.

The actual difference is

when listening, you have no idea how to write characters’ names

when reading, you have no idea how to pronounce characters’ names
