i have:

- three medical handbooks from the 40s

- a collection of posthumously published speculative fiction

- volume two of a three-part biography of george washington that matches descriptions of copies from the mid-1800s, but is in such good shape that it only looks 30-40 years old. this was housed for the entirety of its known history (before coming into my possession) on open library shelves, no climate control other than being indoors

- a copy of the canterbury tales that was sandwiched in the middle of a bin of my aunt’s naval history books that she has no idea how got there (marked as published in the early 1900s, but also in extraordinarily good shape. this one was in a sealed bin for at least two decades before i got it, though, so the shape it’s in may be more natural than supernatural)

- a pocket storybook in french that is supposedly from my mother’s high school french class, but it’s in significantly worse shape than any of the above books. the pages are golden-yellow with age, the glue in the spine has completely dissolved, the cover is starting to flake into pieces… I think my mom may have thought i was describing a different book when she said it was from her class, but it was the only book in french in the whole room.

- a collection of every Agatha Christie novel ever published (plus a few duplicates that I have yet to sort out), several of which are first printings of the first edition

These are just the ones off the top of my head! I’m actually going to be putting together a proper “tour” of my weird books in a few weeks, once i’m fully moved into my new place, as they’re all in boxes right now.

I have come to the realization that if Leitner's were real I would probably have found a few by now. Cause I have a hobby of collecting the most fucked up lil books I can find in thrift shops.

Including:

- a cookbook from the 1980's called Microwaving on a diet.

- a used textbook called drawing anatomy

- a dictionary of obscure sorrows

- two books on the complete works of Edgar Allan Poe in slightly different formats

To name a few.
