Hello! I'm ShadowsAndLint, or SL if you will, and I write fanfiction on AO3. It's mostly Azris, but I have also dabbled in a couple others with Nesta and Gwyn. My venture into acotar fics began in November last year, and now I would like to formally introduce myself on Tumblr. So hi! I hope we can be friends, and that you'll check out my writing. :)

I have two works in progress, and instead of continuing them, I put this together. Ooops!

Your Scars on My Pulse

WIP from Azrisweek 2024. 9/10 chapters, 22,951 words. NSFW.

Eris feels like he's going crazy from his newfound obsession with the shadowsinger since the male wrapped his rough hands around his neck at the High Lord Meeting. After finding Azriel snooping around in the forests of Autumn, they strike a bargain that ensures an unsteady alliance between the two. While they grow friendlier by each encounter, and the shadowsinger's essence is getting increasingly harder to resist, Eris can't help but feel the male is hiding something. And he'll be damned if he can't figure out what.

Words We Use in the Shadows

This is my main work in progress, and a modern university AU. Also featuring the bat boys band Shadows, with Azriel as their singer. Lots of angst, eventual smut.

Azris dual POV, 23/30-ish chapters, 57,333 words.

Azriel is a quiet literature student, completely content with not standing out, until one day a poem about him is posted to the university bulletin board. In his hunt for the culprit, he enlists the help of classmates Nesta, Gwyn and Emerie, all the while keeping his bandmates Rhys and Cassian from finding out he is exchanging poems with a secret admirer. Who is this pompous ass that flirts by writing poetry?

Autumn Winds Across the Sea

Poetic Azris oneshot. 2,618 words. My favorite piece of writing.

Eris is spread out on the ground close to a precipice that falls into the Eastern Sea, his back a mess from one of his father's torture sessions. When the Night Court shadowsinger happens upon him, he is too exhausted to keep up the cruel heir mask. Being faced with a version of Eris he has never seen before, Azriel is forced to see the male in a new light.

Color Me Blue

Gwynriel oneshot, 1,343 words. TW: Mentions of rape.

Sorting through her hazy memories of the night Hybern sacked the temple, Gwyn lets herself freeze to keep from feeling the hurt. When she eventually thaws, she finds her mind occupied with the male that saved her. Meeting him again, her whole world changes.

O Holy Night! The Stars Are Brightly Shining

Part I of II in The Solstice Present. POV Azriel, 1,324 words.

It's the Winter Solstice, and the Inner Circle is celebrating in their usual style. Azriel feels like an outsider to his family's happiness, and is unable to share fully in their joy.

But when he comes home, a small surprise is able to lift his spirits.

Part II of The Solstice Present. POV Eris, 2,085 words.

Eris Vanserra is forced to play the part of obedient son when participating in the Autumn Court's official Solstice dinner. He hates the masks he must wear, remembering a time in the past year when he had been able to be more himself. Under the guise of commemorating Solstice, he decides to send a gift to someone he feels indebted to. But he is not so sure that is the only reason.

A Court of Self-Destructive Coping Mechanisms

Angsty Nesta-centric fic with one OC. 5 chapters, 8,263 words.

This is the part of Nesta's story that falls between book three and five, which is alluded to in both ACOFAS & ACOSF.

Nesta is struggling with depression and trauma from the war with Hybern. She is retracting further and further into herself, pushing everyone away and developing some self destructive coping mechanisms. The story begins when Nesta decides to invite that first male into her bed.

Okay so, a few years ago now me and @thebigqueer got into a back and forth and were somehow talking about a solangelo beauty and the beast au and I drafted it up but I never actually truly wrote it (not shocking if you know me, the wip folder is very full and very incomplete). Anyhow, I seen @solangeloweek was running a fairytale retelling day for the 28th so I figured I could upload this as a sort of bullet point/list/draft format the way so many people used to in fandom 10 or so years ago and we'll call it an intentional throwback.

Il bello e la bestia

Chapter 1:

Opens to Will being put to bed during the ball at the palace… Probably 5 or so

“We’ll see you in the morning my love”

When Will wakes up in the morning his nurse comes to get him, upon touching her she dies; Will begins screaming and crying, he doesn’t know what’s wrong

The doctor looks her over and concludes it's a new plague

Will holds onto his mother

Scene break

Hades meets Hestia in the early light of morning

“It is done?”

“Yes of course, I’ve never let you down have I?”

“No of course not, don’t tell Maria she would be most distraught.”

Scene break

‘News of the Queens death arrives within two days’ and fear begins to spread

The servants are all sent home but a few to try to keep them safe

All of the royal children but one are dead, there’s no news of the king but there’s rumors he’s on his deathbed

Plague gets into city, Hades does his best to secure his family's safety

Chapter 2:

Beginning of chapter is similar to The Secret Garden’s opening when Mary is the last survivor

Similar situation yet nobody rescues him

Apollo had realized Will was the source since he had immunity to whatever was going on

His last words to Will were “It’s not your fault do not blame yourself I should have done better, I love you my son and nobody would hold anything which has occurred against you”

Which confuses Will at first until he realizes

His father takes a rasping breath and Will is crying

He’s not all alone in the palace, but I need to figure out a curse of some sort for the surviving children (Austin and Kayla are babies so they live possibly without effects; Cecil, Lou Ellen, and Clarisse are children of the staff at the palace they need some sort of curse on them.. Perhaps Silena and Beckendorf reside at the palace still too? I think we can do better than making the houses other occupants cleaning supplies and pianos... also maybe Hazel is at the palace for some nice found family moments with her and Nico later on?)

Scene break

We’re in a moderate sized home and Hades is packing things into suitcases

Maria is gasping for air on her deathbed, the sun is rising (symbolism for her being a star)

Bianca too is coughing and choking and gasping on the bed they’ve added to the room

Nico is asleep on Hades shoulder

Hades wants to stop and take a moment and kiss Maria goodbye

She tells him no and to leave because he can’t get sick too

“For Nico,” she says, “Go, I love you both.”

And Hades leaves to her whispering soft words to Bianca

Hestia leaves somewhere else, she's going to find a way to erase the kingdom’s memory of the royals in an attempt to provide Will a more normal future since she thinks the punishment was too harsh.. Everyone was supposed to get sick but they weren’t all supposed to die

Chapter 3:

Possibly focus on Will and Nico growing up in a quick monologue type way?

Opening scene from Movie, Belle song kind of sequence

Octivian as Gaston ( so Nico has a chance at the end to still say ‘some deaths shouldn't be prevented)

Nico is known for being odd but so many people try to earn his hand in marriage for his looks

Hades was changed by Maria, he thinks marriage should be for love

He likes Percy but is shrugged off in favor of Annabeth

Reyna lives with him? They were friends as kids and Hades took her in after some time for currently undecided plot reasons

As they got older she basically became Nico’s personal Bodyguard after a childhood incident Nico liked making sure she had stable income and a good safe place to work (I kind of want it dark so maybe Minos got caught up in crime or something?)

Octivian trying to flirt or sabotage Nico somehow?

Nico doing some cool smart thing for plot

Chapter ends with Nico either realizing his fathers been gone to long or a hurried message saying he needs help

Chapter 4:

Nico takes Reyna and they go get Jason and take him with them

The woods scene ™ (Can't have wolves without Jason am I right? Lol)

Reyna, Jason and Nico accidentally get seperated

Reyna and Jason end up basically together somewhere

But Nico gets separated

They don’t know how far Nico got, so when they don’t find his body Reyna goes ahead to the city where Hades is supposed to be to try to see if Nico will be there and such

Jason stays behind to search the woods for remains or evidence

Chapter ends with Nico showing up in the castle, “Hello?”

Chapter 5:

Nico gets trapped in the castle

He trespassed and Clarisse and Cecil locked him up and someone in the palace of some importance tells them to let Nico go

He has to be kept in that situation because they don’t want people to know about Will/the palace and they don’t know what Nico’s seen

Hades had gotten trapped in the castle for some reason, maybe they figured out that he placed the curse or something, maybe just trespassing- Nico agrees to trade his life in jail for his father’s and events resume as typical

Scene ends with Nico being given a bedroom and taken out of a cell to be placed on “house arrest” and he tries to settle in to his new life

Chapter 6:

Scene opens with Jason walking back into town to try and convince people to form a search party for Nico

Technically this would be the “Gaston scene” but instead this is Jason trying to convince everyone why they should care about Nico… Kind of like the whole jar situation

Eventually a small party agrees to go help look (Jason, Reyna, Percy, Annabeth, Piper, Leo, Frank, and Octavian - so the 7 minus Hazel, plus Reyna and Octavian)

Scene break

Nico is trying to settle into his new palace life, and he’s befriending the people who live there

Will is some sort of secret, sort of like Elsa (another Disney movie throw in, why not) but slightly sus things have been noticed by Nico during conversations

Nico doesn’t care he’s going to try and run away and go back home (He’s got a plan in his head and materials hidden somewhere)

Nico does manage to get out of the palace, and he makes his way even out of the gates to start heading home on his horse

The Wolves ™

Nico is seriously injured during the event

Chapter 7:

Scene opens to the events at the village, as they lay out a map trying to determine where Nico might have ended up (They don’t even know the royal family or palace exist)

Either Reyna stumbles in claiming she couldn’t find Hades, or they might stumble in together with one of them very ill/weak

Scene break

Friends from the palace try to convince Will to help save Nico’s life

Will is scared about possibly making it worse and killing Nico because of his plague powers and how he hasn’t used his healing powers in years

“But you always cure Kayla’s colds!” “Yes but those are small!”

There’s a little bit of a spat, but Will agrees reluctantly

He goes into the room alone and tells them to seal the doors in case he messes up they only lose one life

The palace friends sit and wait

Chapter 8:

The scene opens to the search party beginning to look for Nico (they’re all headed in the wrong direction)

It will take them a month or more to even get close to Nico’s location

Queue making the pacing work in such a way you feel like it's a mundane day in the life sort of deal but just fast enough you're reminded Nico's life was hanging in the balance at the end of last chapter

Also some silly nonsense infighting because Octavian is there and boo Octavian

Scene Break with a slight timeskip

Will had healed Nico successfully, and instead of leaving to trust his care to his siblings and friends he takes Nico’s care onto himself

Three days in the infirmary style fic lets go! (except it’s like a week)

Flirting, pining, jokes, r u gay without actually asking that type questions

Will realizes Nico’s intelligence (or whatever the correct word for the term is) at some point and shows him the library with all the books

Nico gasps in wonder and awe

Scene break

Palace friends are all discussing the relationship and how close the two have grown

Throughout this Will has some weird behaviors but Nico ignores them as oddities and nothing else (psssst, Nico, it's trauma!)

It takes about a month for Nico to fully heal, but it's not specified or anything anywhere

Chapter 9:

Octavian is in a search group with Jason, Reyna, and Hades

Eventually they realize this is a ploy either for him to impress or hurt Nico (idk his and Nico’s relationship dynamic yet)

So Octavian attacks them and leaves them for the wolves

Scene ends with Hestia appearing (although it's not obviously her)

Scene break

Will and Nico falling in love in the palace

Nico has finally earned lots of Will’s trust and Will shows him the smaller magical library they have

He shows him the book that Will show the reader whatever they want to see… It's from Hestia when she worked at the palace (and now it's like Lou Ellen's room or something)

Nico does the little like apartment scene from the movie, but instead it's a small house in the middle of a large nature field along a river and he goes inside his childhood home with drawings and stuff all over the walls but like no people

They find the mask and Nico realizes they left because of a plague, Will feels guilty and hesitates as to whether or not he should tell Nico it was his fault.

He decided not to at the time, the scene ends with Will’s guilt as they return to the palace

Chapter 10:

Reyna, and Jason awake in Hestia's traveling home thingy idk

They realize Hades is in kahoots with a witch

They hesitate but decide not to disclose the information to the people of the city because they're good of heart

The scene ends with Reyna and Jason trying to return to the town to tell of Octavian crimes

But they have no evidence (not having any injuries was suspicious and they agreed not to talk about the witch)

Eventually they disclose the truth about the witch and Hades, and they are found and all 4 locked up to be executed for trying to falsely accuse him of a crime and socializing with a witch

Scene break with the death penalty way if heavy on the readers mind

In the magic room when looking over the books, Will shows Nico the magic looking mirror

They think it doesn't work, Will argues it just needs to be wanted up it hasn't been so many years since it's been used

He convinces Nico to come to dinner with him

Will plans to tell Nico about the plague issue, and encourages him to bring the mirror

Chapter 11:

Percy and Annabeth’s search group returns to town to hear of Reyna and Jason's issue

They begin to formulate a plan to try and rescue them to avoid the death penalty but they have to be fast and work before the soldiers know they're back

Scene break

During the dinner Nico checks the mirror again, and he’s made aware of his father and friends situation just before Will was going to tell him about plague incident

Will decides he can't keep Nico here his whole life and that he deserves more and happiness, he tells Nico to go after his family and that his sentence is served

He wraps Nico in his cloak and hands him the mirror and his own personal horse to go to his town

Scene break

Soldier walks in to Jason, Hades and Reyna’s cell “Time to go”

Chapter 12:

Scene opens to blood, Octavian kills Selena and Beckendorf for information and traps Clarisse somehow

He was interrogating them on their return from a different nearby village for food

He knows of the relationship between Nico and Will and he wants to use it against

Octavian has returned to the village, and knowing that Nico is in love with the “beast” he rallys a crowd painting Will to be vicious with witchcraft

Clarisse manages to escape somehow and goes to warn the palace about the incoming threat; they prep for battle

Scene break

Nico is sneaking around the town as he sees the preparations for the witch hunt being prepared

He knows they're going to try and kill his family first so he decides to go get Percy to ask him to help save them

Percy let's him in on the plan and there's like a who Notre Dame musical kind of thing where they save their lives

Once the villagers realize that witch and the rest of them aren't going to die tonight the leave anyhow to go and kill Will

Nico had left already before them by just a few seconds to rush to the palace and warn Will

Chapter 13:

scene opens to Percy, Annabeth, Piper, and Leo helping to calm and heal Reyna Jason and Hades and try to wake Hestia

Percy looks into the distant forest where everyone has left to “now we pray” or something similar.

Scene break

Villagers arrive to storm the palace, with no mention of if Nico had got there in time or not

Octavian abandons X and X turns on Octavian to help the palace instead (I can't think of who would make a good le fou out of the characters so…. Character X for now... Unamed Roman IVXII or something lol)

Things are burning

Kayla and Clarisse are in charge of strategy

Austin is trying to be as loud and annoying as possible (music; villagers hold ears in pain etc)

Palace friends are using various tactics, Lou Ellen discovers her magic, Hazel too

Octavian is looking for Will and his siblings

Some home alone type shots of situations and planning that results in cool fight scenes courtesy of Cecil (Connor and Travis also? Hmm)

Scene break

Nico rushing up a staircase on the far side of the house which is without traps

He rushes to find Will

Chapter 14:

Opens to Hestia, Reyna, Jason, and Hades riding down the dirt forest road

Hestia is in the lead rushing

Percy and Annabeth and friends are behind on horseback too

Scene break

Nico opens Will’s room in a rush, trying to warn Will Octavian was missing from the fight

Octavian is standing in the open room in a position to kill Will in one blow

Nico freezes and meets Will's eyes

Scene break

A whole tower of the palace has gone up in flame, palace friends are struggling to hold ground in the fight

Chapter 15:

Octavian talking to Nico and Will disclosing his evil plan

Nico is watching Will’s eyes and had seen a shift in his face when he walled in

Now Will’s eyes are directing him towards an area with a weapon

Nico in one movement picks it up and fights Octavian giving Will freedom

Scene break

Percy and friends rush into battle below

Hestia doesn't stay to fight and rushes up the stairs

No killing or maiming villagers (capture the flag reference yadda yadda)

Scene break

Nico decides to spare Octavian life

Ocitivian uses this to shoot Will in the back

Ocitivian dies of Will’s plague

Hestia bursts through the door and saves Will’s life as Nico is crying over him

Chapter 16:

Will wakes up and he’s worried Nico will hate him because of the plague

Nico is sitting curled up in a chair next to Will’s bedside asleep, he wakes up when Will moves “shhh”

“No, no I need to explain, I’m so sorry” “Will, Will, I- Will, listen. I already thought about it and was briefed on the situation I don’t care.”

Will cries, they’re laughing and happy, snow is falling outside the window

Scene break

There’s a feast and all of the people in Nico’s friends are there and all Will’s friends and they eat

And there’s no talk of funeral preparations because it’s agreed they can be put on hold another day so the living can be celebrated a day longer

Scene break

After the funerals, Nico and Will walking down a hallway late (like 4am idk) after everyone else has retired the day of the services, they’re talking about how lovely they were

Nico begins to talk about how he’s sad he’ll have to leave soon

Will proposes, “Nico just stay, stay and marry me.” “Wait what?” “Please?” “Okay” “Wait really?” “Yes of course” “Oh I surely thought you’d tell me no and I’d have to impress you to earn your hand!” “Will~” “hmm?” “You already did” Nico kisses his cheek, queue fireworks or whatever

Chapter 17 (Epilogue):

Nico and Will ballroom dancing after their wedding, they’re surrounded by friends and basked in white light of the mid afternoon

They’re happy and joking with one another

Scene pans over to Hades and Hestia

Hestia: “Will you ever tell him?”

Hades, looking at her in a sad and fond manner: “I don’t know, but let them have at least this”

Hestia, knowingly: “You mean let yourself have this, because you know how upset Nico will be when he finds out the real reason for everything?”

Hades: “Shut up”

(Persephone asks him to dance? Palace staff???)

Talk about the festivities and try to make it an all is well type ending while still leaving the Hades situation open ended and on the darker side

Happy couple solangelo kisses for real and then actual fireworks yay

Wip Wednesday 7/31/24

These are hella late but here are my sentences for 7/31 :)

“I need you to get some information to the little lord.”

“Ah, I see. And what exactly would I be telling him?”

“Riko is getting out of control. He sent some of the freshman Ravens over to Palmetto to kill one of our players.”

“Are you absolutely sure?”

“Yes. the player who was attacked saw who it was and I’m sure there’s a paper trail that leads back to the side branch if not to Riko himself.”

“Alright, I’ll check it out and relay your message. Is there anything else?”

“Thank you, and no, there’s nothing else right now.”

“Very well then, I’ll let you go.”

“Bye,” Neil says, and hangs up the phone, handing it back to Andrew.

He pockets the phone, leans back on his elbows and stares out at the parking lot. Neil doesn’t feel like going back inside so he sits with Andrew and stares at him, admiring how the sun lights up his hair and makes his eyes glow gold.

Neil finishes signing his email, heart pounding in his ears and sends it off before he can think about it too much. He quickly closes his laptop and leans back in his chair, folding his arms behind his head and then takes a few calming breaths.

He does this until he feels his heart slow and gets up to get ready for the day. 

Neil barely makes it through his first class; the professor monotonically goes over the syllabus and then keeps them there for another half hour talking about himself and how he ended up in ‘such a fine establishment’. He resorts to alternating between drawing on the handout given to them at the start of class and stabbing himself in the thigh with a pen.

He meets up with Jean for a late lunch and they both talk about how their classes are going so far.

“I’m just saying, that class is shit. I don’t understand why we need to take it.” Neil says, referring to his undergraduate studies class.

“We have to take it because someone,” Jean replies, stabbing a piece of broccoli with his fork, and then pointing it at Neil, “wanted to explore Europe instead of going to college when we graduated.”

“Whatever,” Neil says, swatting the broccoli away. “It's not like I made you come with me.”

“True, but irrelevant. Besides, if you had gone on your own, who would have been there to take care of you after all of the times you got into fights and needed patching up.”

“I could have done it myself or gone to a clinic,” Neil says, already knowing he’s going to lose this argument.

“Bullshit. I’ve never met someone who hates hospitals more than you do. Also I’ve seen you try to patch yourself up, you’re pretty shit at it.”

“Alright, Alright,” Neil says, putting his hands up in surrender, “you win.”

Lola wastes no time getting into his space, knife in hand, crowding him even more into the car door. 

“So, Junior,” Lola says, like she’s gossiping with a friend, “I’ve just got to know, where’d Mary run off to?” She presses the tip of the knife into his cheek when he doesn’t immediately answer, just enough to draw a drop of blood. 

Nathaniel doesn’t flinch despite the pain he feels and replies, “Like I’d ever tell you that.”

“Maybe,” Lola says, “but I have a feeling you’ll tell me sooner or later.”

Nathaniel wants to question how she plans to do that, but keeps his smart mouth shut, his mind already coming up with multiple ways that she could.

Aaron can tell he’s struck a nerve, the bulging veins on either side of Hill’s forehead giving away just how much he has. 

Halsey steps between them, redirecting Hill’s attention to him and Aaron takes the chance to give Kevin a once over.

Aaron hadn’t thought much of him when he first walked in, having been more focused on Hill. However, now that he’s really looking, he notices how muscular Kevin’s arms are, his jade-green eyes and how he towers over most of the people in the room, including himself.

Aaron turns his attention back to Hill and Halsey, “I look forward to seeing you in class,” Hill says, but Aaron can tell he is still pissed from earlier despite the smile he wears.

He glares at Hill until he’s gone and turns his attention back to Halsey who checks his watch, “I’ve got to go, there’s a call I need to make. Kevin, could you please show Mr.Minyard the Emergency room.”

“Of course, I was on my way over there anyway,” Kevin says.

Aaron gives Kevin his full attention now that Halsey is gone, “You sure know what to say to impress important people huh?”

“I assume you mean Hill.”

Yeah, he’s a pain in the ass but he’s got a lot of influence here. Let me guess, you’re taking Dr.Hill’s class?”

“Yep.”

“Well, if I were you, I’d tone down the animosity. Getting an F in his class is like a bad review from the New York Times; it’ll ruin your career before it even begins.”

Even though I’ve only posted 2 fics so far, I’ve actually been writing them for years and have a few in my folder that are technically WIPs that I do still have an attachment to and want to finish, so I’ll include them here. I also have a couple of fics that I’m planning for Elucien week and don’t want to give away too many details just yet but am willing to answer questions!

ELUCIEN WIPS

1. Turning Saints into the Seas - Currently rated M but working towards E. Multi-chapter, Dual POV, Third-person; takes place post-ACOSF with Lucien taking Elain to Day to visit a Seer. Elements of forced proximity, jealousy, denial. Lucien knows about Solstice and who his daddy is. (Currently 7 chapters posted on ao3)

2. Light the Fire Bright - Elucien week AU Fic (set to be posted on 20th July). Set in an AU (but not our world for reasons), but I’m so excited to start writing this! I have so many scenes already planned. Rated M but will very likely build to E. Multi-chapter, Dual POV, Third-person. And to give at least a little bit…it will be strangers-to-friends-to-denial-to-lovers.

3. I See You in My Fireflies - This is one that I’ve been working on for a couple of years (I think I’ve written about 12 chapters). Set some time after ACOSF, after Elain has rejected her bond with Lucien. Lucien is still living in the human realm with Vassa and Jurian, when Elain shows up unexpectedly at their manor to warn Lucien of a vision she had (spoiler: it’s not a good one). Lucien discovers Elain left Night and has been living in Spring (alone) for some time. Involves the Koschei plot line and Vassa. Will be rated E, Multi-chapter, Dual POV, third-person fic. Elements of denial, Elain’s seer-abilities, more denial, angst, anger.

I have written about 12 chapters but there’s no telling when I’ll get to finishing this one though.

4. Unnamed Elucien Week Fic - I am also so excited to finish this! I have already written about 7 chapters. Rated E, Multi-chapter, Dual POV, third-person fic. This will fall into a sub-genre that I am fairly new to but I don’t recall having seen an Elucien fic with these elements (but I’m probably wrong, there are probably many), so I’m really excited to write it. This will be my most explicit challenge! What I can reveal: a curse, forced-proximity, SPICE, is Tamlin really the villain?

5. Unnamed Elucien One Shot - completed one-shot taking place on the night of Nessian Mating Ceremony. Elain sees the infamous necklace around Gwyn’s neck and it drives her to flee from the gathering. Lucien, being observant, follows. Elain takes the opportunity to give into urges she’s be fighting and denying. Rated E. Dual POV, third-person. I don’t know why I never posted this. I think I just didn’t end up liking it 😂

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Yes. I didn't at first, but I respond to every single comment I get now. Either to thank them for commenting, or answer the musings people have, or just to respond with a heart so they know I saw/read their comment and appreciate it. 'Cause I do. I appreciate every comment I get, even if it's just a lil heart emoji or them saying the word 'kudo'.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I don't do angsty endings. Angst with a happy end or bust!! However, I did post this lil thing about Steve thinking about karma and the balance of the universe and how he's happy to give up all the good things he has in life if it means Eddie will get them instead.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

They all have happy endings but I'm gonna go with Bad News First, Eddie simply because of how sad the beginning is.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not that I'm meant to see, but Tumblr's tag system is garbage so sometimes you come across a post not meant to been seen. Saw people trash talking The Interview before the last chapter was out, and seemingly having missed the 'unreliable narrator' tag.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Not typically. I've written suggestive themes and one explicit BJ but for the most part, no. If I wrote longer, chaptered fics I might write more smut, but I just write oneshots where it's because I had a specific scene in mind, or minor conversation to have, and I don't ever just want to write smut for the sake of smut.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Nope. Never crossovers. I will do other media AU but it will never be about including the characters of a different media. I just want the worldbuilding from a different show/movie sometimes.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not to my knowledge. How do you even go about learning if your fic was stolen??

No.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Kinda??? @rebelspykatie wrote an angsty lil thing that made me sad, so I wrote the start of how it could be fixed, and @steviesummer wrote the wonderful ending. We didn't plan to write the fic together but I think we did an awesome job.

Also I am always down to colab/co-write a fic. I've never done it before but might be fun to do!

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Oh this questions just here to drag me through the mud, huh? I have a very ambitious Outer Worlds-esque AU I've planned out but starting the writing process has been.... hard. It may never see the light of day and I'll be sad forever about it.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I don't know? Never really thought about it.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Being able to tell a long-form story. I just don't have the patience/capabilities at the moment to tell an entire story instead of just the scene that's in my mind.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Oh. Can't say I have given it much thought. The only fic I've written with another language in it was a conlan (Tolkien elvish), and it wasn't in dialogue. So I can't say I have any thoughts in particular about this.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Digimon. I loved Digimon Adventure as a kid an as a little girl, I was sad that their wasn't more Hikari in the show. So I wrote my own fic that featured her and Tailmon becoming best friends with my self-insert and her digi-partner, which was Wizarmon reborn.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

Oh, that'd be Porcelain Steve. A completely self indulgent fic with the fairy tail element to it. I had so much fun writing it!

1. Why do you write fanfic?

It’s a bit of a combination firstly wanting to share a plot idea I have with others, secondly, wanting to see something happen which I know won’t happen in the original source, and thirdly, it can be a bit of a fun puzzle – I don’t like this canon, how do I fix it.

2. Which of your posted stories do you think about the most, even though the story is “finished”?

Lately, First Solitary Separate Singular Complete. It was the first fic I wrote after a long break and I was a very rusty when writing it, so mostly what I would have do differently.

3. If you could give yourself fic advice from when you first started writing fic, what would that advice be?

There will be times when you feel you’ve lost the ability to write. It will come back. It never strays that far away.

4. What’s your relationship to fic stats?

I do check them and quite often, but just for hits. I like seeing the hit count on my WIP steadily head up and like to interpret that as it has found an audience.

5. Is there a pairing or scenario or friendship you miss writing? If so, why? If not, why not?

I wouldn’t mind revisiting Lix/Randall (The Hour) a bit more. I still occasionally find myself coming up with AUs for them. I had half a Victorian detectives AU plotted out in my head back in the day and I wish I'd had the energy to write it. Anyway, it was six episodes over a decade ago and yet they still reside in my head.

6. What motivates you to write?

Partly it’s a race against time to get things down before my inspiration runs out. Partly is that writing for me is like cooking. It’s lovely cooking for myself, but its extra special getting to share what I’ve created with the world and seeing other people enjoy it

7. Why do you write for the fandom(s) that you write for?

My muse is very much motivated by newspaper articles and non-fiction and basically shit I see in the world which pisses me off, and Star Trek remains the ultimate franchise for being able to discuss contemporary issues with a shielding layer of fiction over the top.

For example (spoilers for the next chapter of The Endurance of Light) the villains I’m writing at the moment have an ideology which is based of a whole bunch of anti-master, anti-vaxxer and anti-science rhetoric I’ve seen around – and I’m getting to show how the ruling class of that planet use that ideology to oppress the masses and keep themselves in power, while finding and exploiting loopholes that benefit themselves. I don't know if I'm weird, but writing that kind of stuff for me is oddly fun.

Strange New Worlds in particular hits that sweet spot as it has a great set up and characters I adore, but never seems to have enough time/a high enough episode order to really explore the characters and I want to fix that.  

8. If you’re stuck writing a WIP, what do you do?

Go for a walk. I get all my best ideas either wandering around the local park, or in the shower.

9. What do you wish people knew about comments?

I can’t speak for any author but myself, but I’m happy to answer questions about future developments (or the general direction at least, I won’t give a blow by blow) if someone asks me in a comment. I don’t like tagging my fics with whether it’s a happy ending or not or whether a pairing is endgame or not because I feel that ruins any tension and/or mystery I want to build for everyone, but in the comments, I can put details below a spoiler cut.

10. Maybe there’s a question you wish had been on here. What’s that question (and answer)?

As a person who has aphantasia (the inability to picture things in my mind), I’d love to know what other people see when they’re writing, and how much detail. For me, I feel like for a scene I get enough in my mind to create one blurry film still per scene. There's no movement though. I can’t picture things like facial expressions changing or what characters are doing with their hands. Often I feel like I’m just writing off vibes.

KotE......... I do actually rly enjoy KotE I think it has potential in terms of where it's going. But since I only posted one fic in 2023, I'll do my top 5 of fics I've ever posted. Apart from the first one this is in no particular order

tickertape - The A-Team (TV) it's my baby it's all I thought about for months of my life, it's like an iceberg (i.e. most of it is in my WIP doc, and only a tiny fraction is published so far), it got me thru a difficult time, it's an exploration of mental illness and complicated messy relationships expressed in epic format (i.e. it's probably gonna be novel length when it's done)

Bullet Number Six - Starsky & Hutch (TV) it received criticism for being obscure and hard to follow bc it switches pov briefly halfway thru but idc i love it anyway

I Gotta Right to Sing the Blues - The A-Team (TV) it was my first A-Team fic and I still think for a beginner it nailed some p realistic in-character dialogue and addressed an undertone I wished I'd seen addressed in the ep it's a coda to.

When They Sleep - The Man from UNCLE (TV) it's kind of riddled with certain mannerisms of my slightly older writing which I personally find a bit annoying and have worked to iron out for the sake of elegance over the years. but I still think it's a cool little exploration of all my sleep headcanons for the pair of them in one place

King of the Eyesores - Doctor Who (1963) see it made it to the list after all! I kinda like it more for its potential than for what it is right now butttttt who cares.

special mention to Unbereft (Starsky & Hutch) which I really really like but I wrote it in one frenzied sitting and only remembered after I'd posted it that it was very like someone else's fic I'd read several years previously. I don't think it's too much like to be taken down and I've since mentioned the writer of the other fic (it was dawnwind, hello!) in the notes. that's the only reason unbereft isn't in my top 5 because I'm otherwise really proud of how well it's written. Not to tootle on my own trumpet.

Dear Mike - an epistolary between Jo Grant and Mike Yates following her marriage to Cliff Jones.

The Lark/Behind That Locked Door (working titles) - a 30-chapter 2/Jamie fic about season 6B in which Jamie suffers permanent memory problems after the War Games. It explores grief, social ostracism, feeling abandoned, undirected anger, guilt, and acceptance that healing sometimes is a process that is never complete. I've been working on it since about 2016 lol but I'm lazy I just need to press on.

hell valley au - as yet untitled lol. In which the Hell Valley!Marty (who is never seen in BTTF2 as he is in Switzerland) and Hell Valley!Doc (who has been institutionalized) break out of their respective situations and go on the run together. But there's a problem - they had to leave Einstein behind, and when they get information that Einie is to be used for a dogfight, they make the risky decision to go back to Hill Valley to rescue him. However, going back to the place they just escaped by the skin of their teeth also brings them face to face with the last person they expect to meet.

a changed man (working title) - a Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased) fic from Jeannie's pov. mostly it's about their picnic excursions but it's also about Jeannie wishing Marty wasn't such an elephant in the room

mfu/rahd xover (untitled) - the first chapter of this is almost ready to go tbh. it's what it says on the tin lol, Napoleon and Illya go to London and get help from a rather eccentric private detective who has uncanny powers of solving impossible cases but also they think is probably clinically insane

to see him happy - VERY weird rahd fic. it's smut but its also about grief. might never post it because several of my family members have access to my tumblr and therefore my ao3 lol they dont need to see that

the winter of '62 - a study of jeff and marty's life when they lived together in a grotty bedsit and couldnt afford to put the heating on

star wars (untitled) - set during ROTJ, han pov. han's lost a lot of time and now everyone is one step ahead of him which isn't a sensation he's used to

skyrissian - what it says on the tin lol

the older gen (untitled) - jeeves fic about bertie's aunts and uncles and parents as they were as they variously grew up, got married, had children, died (or didn't), fell prey to alcoholism or insanity or petty crime, went to war, prospered (or didn't)... This is pretty unlikely to be finished this year tbh as it's very detailed but I can dream

a couple of long form fics about starsky & hutch and mfu respectively (the s&h one is set post sweet revenge, the mfu one takes place at various moments throughout the show)

x-files series - canon compliant until paperclip and then gradually diverges into how i think the show should have gone lol. another biggie

and a handful of tintin fics that im protective of and might never post but we'll see - one where tintin and chang go on holiday in london after picaros, one where the gang encounters rajaijah one last time (featuring a letter from didi, chang making a very daring crossing at the songolese border, and tintin taking about ten years to chop up a clove of garlic), and one where tintin gets shitfaced at an embassy ball and accidentally starts an Incident. haddock looks on, appalled.

i knoooooooooooooooowww this is a lot but i'm not realistically hoping to finish it all this year but it's nice to have lots of things to play around with lol.

60! which is. a lot of works but i've been posting since 2015

everything is kookmin these days but once upon a time i wrote other bts pairings and before that i wrote for ikon and got7 (and before that aka before ao3: exo, bap, block b, beast, harry potter, naruto, kingdom hearts....god idk there are a lot of fandoms lol)

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

i like how desperate you seem (in the way you look at me) if i get in, i just might drown i glow pink in the night shine a light through the dark the moon keeps calling out to me, but i only ever hear your name

5. Do you respond to comments?

no, but i did promise myself to respond to comments again in 2024. starting with the ones left on my latest fic.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

uuhhh...probably i might not make it. simply because it's an mcd fic and spoilers! jk is dead throughout the fic and the fics ends like that...

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

lol i think pretty much all of my fics end with a happy ending aka the pairing ends up together, happily in love. 

8. Do you get hate on fics?

100%. lot of fandom drama involved with writing exclusively btm!jm. i've gotten anon msgs telling me to "kms", people hoping i get raped, murdered, my body never found etc etc. you name it, i've seen it. all because they hate that i write btm!jm.

i do think fandom has gotten less insane over this very recently but i am also just way less available and have a much smaller social media presence so lack of access to me has probably reduced the hate, too. plus i'm not actively part of fandom these days so people care about me less, which is great!

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

it's my favourite thing to write! i do need to get back into it though...also was not aware there are types of smut? i guess the rly nasty kind rjfkndk i like pretty much most kinks/fetishes and think it's fun to explore them.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

i have written three crossover fics! >:) two were bobby (ikon)/jimin and one was jaebum (got7)/jimin.

craziest one was probably oh boy, don't be shy since it's basically bobby finds jimin's dildo and then dp's jimin :D

multiple times.

yes, i used to allow translations but it got to a point where people would ask to translate and then never come back to link their translations. plus, i've had people link me to fics that were translated without my permission.

god, i have so many wips i want to write that it's always like...whatever sticks. my current wip tracker has 30 fic ideas on it. i rly want to write this mafia au but i have 2 supernatural aus i also want to write very badly...

there is also a collab fic i rly want to write with my friend bee, which i hope to finish, but idk if we will. i just rly love writing hurt/comfort jgfkd

16. What are your writing strengths?

i'm very good at writing emotion. it's important to me that the reader feels and understands what my characters are feeling and feels that connection to the fic. i'm also good at writing porn for this reason. i'm also very good at worldbuilding and i will put in the research and care to ensure my worldbuilding makes sense and is as accurate as possible and failing that, as believable as possible. moreover, i am just a dedicated researcher. because i write for a korean boyband, it's important to me that i do the research into korean history, customs, current social etiquette etc. it's actually a huge pet peeve of mine to see people just make stuff up or have the fic be entirely westernised/americanised but the boys are all in korea.

i think i'm also good at consistent characterization and at pacing/flow in my work. these are both rly important to me and i've worked on them a lot over the years. i think this also lends to me being pretty good at plotting a fic out so that it's not long and drawn out or that i'm not taking the time to explore certain aspects i've introduced. balance is important!

i think i'm also pretty versatile. i can write different genres pretty easily (eg. i love writing action sequences and am good at making sure the pacing is rly fast and then slowing down when something romantic or suspenseful happens) and am good at like setting a certain vibe/tone for a fic.

finally, i am dedicated to improving. i don't think fanfic writers necessarily owe this to readers (fic writing being a hobby) but writing is really important to me and so it's important to me that i improve and challenge myself.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

i need to read more! i need to expand my vocabulary and learn how to better write metaphors. my imagery could use work, my dialogue definitely needs work. i want to write my characters with a more unique voice versus everyone kind of sounding the same. i want to make sure each character has their own "quirks" the way real people do.

i need to learn to write better description, too, as i think setting can do a lot for setting the mood/tone for a fic. a lot of my short-comings just come down to me reading too little so i need to read more and i need to dissect my favourite fics and books and pinpoint what i found compelling about them.

i also need to challenge myself to write more plot-heavy fics and to be unafraid to write characters who are unlikable or appear irredeemable. i want to write fic that has one main plot but a million little subplots and i want all of these things to come together coherently. i want my work to explore themes that are important to me!

i don't care so much about grammar but probably, i need to get better at that too haha

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

since i write fic for bangtan who are korean, i don't think it's ever necessary to write dialogue in another language. it comes across as cringey (derogatory) and borders on racist imo

2. Which of your WIPs is currently the longest?

you're where I wanna go at 18.7k and no end in sight

3. Which WIP do you expect will end up the longest?

Excellent question. I honestly don't know between you're where I wanna go, with my heart in my lap and the original work. Two of them are historical AUs with separated lovers so.... could be a bit

4. Which WIP is your favourite to write/the most enjoyable to write? Why?

TBH whichever one is giving me the least trouble lol Although I've been excited for you're where I wanna go for a really long time (it's over a year in the making) so probably that one. I love researching the details and really leaning into the feels.

5. Which WIP do you find the most intimidating to write? Why?

The Darkest Fairytale because it involves magical elements and I've never written anything like that before.

6. Which WIP do you experience the most self-doubt about. Why?

The Darkest Fairytale for the reasons listed above but also the original work. I plan on putting that one out as my first book (!) and that's scary AF.

7. Which of your WIPs will you seek out a beta/sensitivity reader for? Why? All of them. Unless I'm doing a super quick prompt I get at least one other person to beta read all my stuff. Extra eyeballs is never a bad thing.

8. Have any of your WIPs been struck by the curse of writer's block? Of course! So I bounce around to whatever's working for me. And if they're all being stubborn I take that as a sign to rest a bit (even if it's frustrating as hell).

9. Which WIP has your favourite OC? Tell us about them? Hmmmm, I'm not really sure yet. Of course the original work will be 100% OCs so I guess that one. They don't have names yet, or even that many details. The main character is a recently single woman who has always been attached in some way. So she finally has this chance to figure out what she likes and have a bit of fun. And then she meets a younger woman, they have fun together and it starts to turn into more than just a good time. Our MC gets spooked because she doesn't think she's ready or capable of doing that again just yet. Anway, I think they'll be an interesting dynamic to explore.

10. Which WIP is the sexiest? Honey when you call my name or I light the match. I guess it depends on your definition of sexy? The former explores Buddie after Eddie witnesses the Buck/Lucy kiss in 5x11. The latter explores Buck having a day he needs to get out of his head and Eddie knowing just how to handle that 😉

11. Which WIP is the angstiest? I think you're where I wanna go or with my heart in my lap for different but kinda similar reasons. In both cases the lovers are separated for years and having to deal with that in their own way as they continue to live their lives without their other half.

12. Which WIP has the best characterisation (in your humble opinion)? Maybe just because I'm so partial to it but I'm going to say you're where I wanna go. Also because I'll get to explore the personalities of familiar characters across decades of their lives.

13. Which WIP has the best scene setting (in your humble opinion)? So far come close (let me be home) since it's seen the characters in more detailed locations so far. But honestly I think it'll be a toss up between this one, you're where I wanna go, and with my heart in my lap.

14. Which WIP have you worked the hardest on? Any of the historical AUs. I need to know that I'm representing the time periods accurately. Even if no one else knows I'll know and it will bother me.

15. Which WIP do you have the highest expectations for? Why? I'm going to guess the smutty ones because they tend to do best generally. I'll want all of them to do well but it will hurt more for the historical ones if they don't. Mostly because I'm most passionate about them and will want everyone to be as excited as I am 🙃

16. Do you dream about any of your WIPs? Not yet.

17. Do any of your WIPs have particular complexities that your other fics don't? run to the water and the darkest fairytale have the magical elements that I'm not as familiar with. Printer!Buck is going to require a ton of research around old school printing techniques as well.

18. Which WIP is the funniest or has the most humour? None of them are particularly humorous but maybe come close (let me be home). It's a Bridgerton AU so there will be a lot of sniping and antagonizing between Buck and Eddie. And Chim will be a heavily featured character so you know he always brings the jokes to any piece.

19. Do any of your WIPs contain outside POVs or a deep dive on a character other than the main ship? How are you finding that process? Not so far, and I'm not sure if I'll explore that at all.

I can definitively whittle the options down to two big ones:

Death May Die is best for sheer Happily Ever After catharsis factor. It's a big old classic supernatural lit crossover and basically an AU take on The League of Extraordinary Gentlefolk webcomic currently being made.

Extinction, Emerging is best for the undiluted ecstasy of the shock ending. Note, this is another The Magnus Archives fic. And it's probably the most hopeful and joyous thing I have ever or will ever write.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Nothing I've received personally in comments/inbox

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I can do smutty scenes and paint in erotic strokes here and there, but even then I don't think what I publish is enough to qualify strictly as smut. More horror/drama with sexual bits peppered around.

When it does sneak in, it's usually there as a flavoring to the larger story or atmosphere. In Kiss Him No More, sex is used both as a predatory act that Dracula plans to inflict out of petty vengeance and possessiveness, and a contrasting act of love and mutual care between Jonathan and Mina. When I write eroticism, I treat it like fire--only as tender or terrifying as its use.

That said, I have written notes and vignettes about some significantly raunchy goings-on, both happy and horrifying, that have never seen the light of day. Time will tell if that changes. ;)

Yep! The League of Extraordinary Gentlefolk was the foundation for three of my biggest and favorite fics in the The Adventures of Jonathan Harker and the Strange Old Men series, and that comic-in-progress is itself a growing medley of Victorian era classic literature characters.

Probably Donuts & Coffee 9: Tell Me It’s the Real Thing; it ends on a cliffhanger, Ellie is heartbroken, scared, and leaving Joel, while Joel is also heartbroken that Ellie is leaving and unsure of what’s going to happen between them. I left my poor cubs hanging with that one.

7. what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Although it is my most angsty fic, I think Every Night Has Its Dawn has the happiest, most satisfying ending. Everyone is “living at the end of the world” - hence the series title, lol - and Joel & Ellie get their happy ending (as it always should be)

8. do you get hate on fics?

Surprisingly, no. I’ve had a couple “if you wrote for another ship, more people would like you” comments, and also one “I really want to hate you, but you’re so nice” which still makes me laugh. Antis hate to admit that even those of us who write taboo fiction are still people, god forbid. We just have wild, deviant imaginations

No, I don’t think I would play nice in the sandbox. Plus, I have so many ideas, I’m not sure they would mesh with other writers’ ideas.

😗<this is me doing a low whistle. That’s tough. My first ship was Mulder/Scully so they have a special place in my heart. I spent a lot of time doing text-based RPG, so I jumped around with ships. Joel/Ellie is my first ship in such a long time, I think they’re gonna be with me for a long time.

15. what's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

The original Learning to Walk; it featured Joel and an OFC, so that’s never gonna happen. I took various pieces from the draft I had and worked it into other stories, so it’s been picked apart. I also started an AU that starts pre-outbreak with Ellie as a friend of Sarah’s then progresses through the 20 years following with Joel and Ellie being brought together and torn apart over time; I’ve taken a lot of elements from it and worked it into my Boston AU so the original won’t be finished.

16. what are your writing strengths?

I love writing dialogue - so much so that sometimes Joel just needs to shut up.

17. what are your writing weaknesses?

Action, having characters involved in fights or physical action. I also struggle with writing scenes for side-characters; l these days if it doesn’t involve Joel and Ellie I’m like, “omg is this over yet?”

18. thoughts on dialogue in another language?

I have not done it, props to writers who can read/write multiple languages. If I was going to do it, I would be afraid that Google translate would botch the infliction. I would probably italicize it and describe the character as speaking in another language.

19. first fandom you wrote in?

The X-Files; so long ago that there were independent sites for writers, you had to post all over the place and let people link you work to get it seen. Comments/kudos and feedback were hard to come by. I was there when ff.net came online and at the time it was revolutionary. When the purge(s) happened and ao3 came online, it was a leap forward for writers. My works are scattered across the universe of the web.

20. favorite fic you've written?

It’s like Sophie’s Choice omg. It’s probably Why Can’t I Just Tell You (That I Care) because it was supposed to be a fluffy one-shot set in Jackson - the scene where Joel comes to Ellie’s apartment in eighteen (part 1) - and it featured flashbacks of the times the two of them had been flirting with each other over the years - which became sixteen and seventeen and the series is now over 100k words. For me, it’s an incredible adventure for the two of them, fluff, angst, heartbreak, action, my first time writing spice - it was a labor of love.

Also, I binged your zombie au a few days, and much like w/ the campervan au I was so impressed about how you incorporated the show’s dialogue, especially in regards to the climactic meeting between Theo and Koschei. Also also, I was so excited when Jericho showed up - what a tenseful way to introduce him to the reader, too. If you’re comfortable w/ answering: 1 and 2 for this au?

Ahh hello! :D Thanks for the ask - and ahhh I'm so glad that you enjoyed zombie au!! It's one that I'm actually pretty proud of, I have a massive soft spot for it. One of my favourite things to do with aus is take lines/ideas from the original content and weave them into the new story - I mean, you've seen that in campervan au, but for me one of the most interesting things about writing zombie au was taking lines that I'd also used in campervan and putting them in a new context and shedding a different light on them, but also taking lines and ideas that I haven't even touched in campervan and exploring them here instead! And augh, man, I'm still SO proud of that part where Theo finds Koschei in the corridor during the attack - everything just came together, and I could just see it in my brain but I feel like I actually managed to get what I could see onto the paper in a way that really captured it. I'm so happy that you enjoyed it!!

But hmmmmm let me see...I'm gonna put this under the cut because it's long, but:

5 - What has been your biggest struggle with your wip?

Oooh this is kind of tricky. I think one of the biggest problems with both of anterograde and ziptie is that they're so interlinked with the main au - I can't really write them or post them until I've finished the entirety of campervan. Anterograde is also quite large and nebulous - it spans over several years after the initial train crash, and so I'd really have to figure out how to structure it if I wanted to do it properly. It's much more 'slice of life' than the other ones, which are much more plot driven. The other problem with both of them is just sitting down and writing them, yknow? They're both BIG stories! Ziptie in particular also has a lot of logistics going on that I'd need to actual sit down and figure out if I wanted to write it properly, but at the moment the main draw is thoschei being feral

9 - What aspects (tropes, maybe?) of your wip do you think will draw people in?

With anterograde au - I feel like it's the slower, domestic version of the main au, but with bucketloads of angst to make up for the general softness. I think it's also just the premise of it too? Like memory and identity are SUCH interesting themes to me (see: I write about them all the time), but I think holding up campervan and anterograde next to each other is what makes them both so fascinating because in one you've got the Doctor with retrograde amnesia, cut off from her past but still ending up defined by it; with anterograde, the ONLY THING SHE HAS is her past, and everything else is thrown into confusion and uncertainty. And then, you've got Koschei, who is suddenly having to deal with a very different situation to the one he was originally envisioning for himself (and for the Doctor) and it's just......really cool to see how the same characters, with the same backstory, end up in completely different places (emotionally and literally) because of the Doctor's brain injury being different depending on the verse. Also just the inherent....trust that comes with them living together and Koschei fundamentally ending up as the Doctor's carer. And not just the trust between the pair of them, but also with other people too (like Graham and Grace, Jack, etc.). I think anterograde reaaaally makes it clear that Koschei is, at heart, still the terrified 15yo that he was in 1999, and that he's never had anyone to actually help him. Anterograde kind of gives Kosch this chance to actually have a support network and help himself, which does allow him to heal (to some degree) from a lot of his stuff. The inherent tragedy here is that the Doctor, on the other hand, has suddenly lost her sense of time and so can't tangibly heal in the same way, because she can't remember it. However, there is a lot of healing going on under the surface - which is takes a while for both of them to notice and understand, but it is definitely there.

With ziptie - I think the premise of 'spydoc ziptied together' is the main draw HAHAHAHA but serious answer, ziptie spydoc are just...so painfully co-dependent in the worst way ever. And they hate it! Because they get thrown into this working AGAINST each other, and then are suddenly in a truly awful situation for weeks where they're suddenly the only person that the other can trust. And then by the time they get out of that, everything is worse and they're also messing with each other's heads in a very literal way (because in ziptie, they both have the kasaavin on their necks and can't get them off) and it causes a lot of interesting issues.

10 - What are your hopes for your wip?

This is interesting, because I have thought a lot about this - because, truth be told, I'm almost certain that anterograde and ziptie and the other aus will never be written in full. However, when (and it IS a when, I am determined) campervan is finished and fully posted, there's a reasonable chance that I'll post some excerpts from the other aus, if people are interested! It might also be fun to like, write an explanation or summary of the au? Or maybe make a video or something explaining everything? That would probably take ages to make but I feel like that would be the best format. I would definitely like to share them somehow, someday, because they offer such an interesting insight into each other.

And then - for zombie au!!

1 - What was the first part of your wip that you created?

I'm genuinely not sure with this one!! I'm pretty sure I just opened a document and started writing haha! I feel like that's right - the opening of zombie is very much just me going 'uhhhhhhHHHH LET'S JUST START IN A RANDOM PLACE' ahahaha, you can kind of tell that I just threw Theo into the set and told her to improvise. Which, to be clear, is something I do WAY too much. Even when I plan fics, I have no idea what's going on, so I have a tendency to just coast on vibes and see what happens as the story unfolds. Especially when I'm starting a story. Usually by a few chapters in, I've started to get a sense of things.

2 - If your story was a TV show, what would the theme song/intro be?

Hahah well the fic title is take from a song off the album Future Dust by The Amazons, so no one is surprised that I would probably pick a song by that band. Either In My Mind or Mother. As a fun sidenote though, the theme song for Theo and Koschei before Gallex gets released is Junk Food Forever.

For the WIP ask game: What is raised by Jace about? 👀

Ah, yes! This is one of the Theron Childhood AUs, which was one of those "5 Things" type stories that explores different roads Theron's life might have taken if he or someone else had made a different decision at the important junctures in his life. Just what it says on the tin, it would be an exploration of what might happen if Satele had decided to tell Jace about Theron, and let him raise him.

It's not a particularly happy AU, as in canon, Jace has a lot of survivor's guilt and PTSD, and a wicked mean temper. I mean, just look what happened between him and Theron during the time skip. I feel like despite his best intentions, there would be a lot of friction between him and a young Theron. The main thrust of the story would be exploring how Jace's darker tendencies tend to push his son away, combined with the incredibly self-indulgent thought of "what would happen if the son of Satele and Jace happened to be around the Jedi Temple when during the Sacking of Coruscant?"

It doesn't really have much written on it at all, aside from a little prologue intro that probably won't find its way into the fic. So I might as well indulge a little and share that here 😉 But under a cut, to save all your dashes.

“What if something happens to me?” Satele wondered. “What happens if one day you add my name to your list? Silently she added: Or your child’s? Jace’s expression was grim. “I’d rain destruction down the Empire,” he said quietly. “I’d destroy their cities and burn their worlds.” -- Star Wars: The Old Republic: Annihilation, by Drew Karpyshyn

“And you’re sure you don’t want to tell the father?” Ngani Zho asked as he paced.

For nine months she had contemplated that answer, gone back and forth — and now that this moment had finally arrived, Satele hesitated. So sure she had been about what would have been best, but as she watched her Master rock her infant son to her chest, she was struck by an image of Jace Malcom’s tall form, cradling their son, speaking to him softly. There was much darkness in Jace, she had seen that first hand. The thought of that darkness tainting the innocent little light she had carried within her had been the cause of her unease.  But there was more to Jace than his dark impulses — there was a soft tenderness too that he didn’t often allow himself to indulge in.

“Satele?” Ngani prompted. “Are you not sure?”

It had all been much more clear when it had been an abstract, an idea. “I wish I were. His father… has darkness in him.”

“None of us are all one thing,” her Master gently reminded her. “We are all capable of change — redemption and forgiveness is one of the tenets of our Order.”

“Of course, Master,” she bowed her head. “My main concern is for my son. I only want what is best for him.”

“There are many paths for this little one to take.”

“If he is strong with the Force, he will need to be trained. And if he knows, his father will want to be in his life.”

“I believe we can make something work if it comes to that — but the choice on how to proceed is yours. I cannot make it for you.”

She tried to look inward, reach out to the Force for guidance, but the unending swirl of emotions clouded her perception, and the only voice she could truly hear was her own. And as she watched Ngani rock the newborn, the more her certainty from before evaporated.

Not a week later, Jace was holding his son. He stared down at the infant in open wonder, as if he had never seen anything quite like the little life he now held in his arms. He finally looked up, and the wave of emotion that hit her through the Force was almost too much to bear and she had to move away.

“Satele, I—”

“You will take care of him?”

“Of course, I will, he’s my son.”

His voice darkened with the ferocity of the statement, and it was difficult for Satele to tell if it was rooted in possessiveness, or more tied to paternal instinct. That instinct was one she was quite familiar with herself, and she had to actively fight the strong pull their son already had on her. It was the next statement that caught her off guard, although she should have expected it.

"You could come with us.”

“I have already seen where that path leads,” she said quietly, “and the Republic needs me.”

“I need you.”

She turned away then, feeling the pull towards them — towards a path she dare not tread. “Theron needs you more.”

“Theron?”

“That’s his name. Unless… you can change it if you want.”

“No, that’s a good name. Theron,” he said it again, as if testing it out. “Theron Malcom.”

It didn’t fit him, at least not in the same way Shan had. The way it had for all previous generations. But it was better this way. She just had to keep telling herself that.

"I'm sorry sir, I really can't say what kind of egg that is. I've never seen anything like it."

Lan Zhan sighs, taking the egg back. "Thank you anyway."

Another dead end.

Carefully, he wraps the egg in a blanket, placing it back in his bag.

Cuddle Conundrum

When wangxian started dating they became rather awkward and shy around eachother. It's a new addition to their dynamic and they're still learning to be fully comfortable with eachother.

WWX loves horror movies but he is unaware that his new boyfriend ALSO loves them.

Xiantober Day 3: Xianxian's Parents

WCZ and CSSR have been neighbours with LQR for many years now. They don't particularly get along seeing as CSSR constantly finds ways to prank and tease LQR, but they don't not get along either.

It's amicable enough, to say the least.

Xiantober Day 4: Ghostxian

Lan Zhan stares up at the abandoned house in the dark of night, wondering how his life came to this. Objectively, he knows how: Nie Huaisang begged him to be the "skeptic" on his new ghost-hunting show and their brothers asked him to join.

Xiantober Day 5: Innkeeperxian

Wei Wuxian settles himself behind the counter for the start of his shift. He hasn't been in possession of this inn for very long, but he has come to find himself very fond of it. Getting to meet many different people is always exciting.

Xiantober Day 6: The Streets of Yiling

It's been years since WWX's parents told him they'd be back.

It's been years of WWX having to fend for himself on the streets of Yiling.

It is an unforgiving place for a child but he's learned to adapt.

Xiantober Day 7: Bikerxian

Wei Ying is in his fourth and final year at Starfleet Academy. Soon enough he'll be graduated and assigned to some ship to go out into space. Which also means that this is his final year seeing all his friends nearly every day. He's gonna miss them.

Xiantober Day 8: Head Disciplexian

It's been exactly 6 months since the other sect disciples left which means that it has been a year since Wei Ying left early.

Not that he's been keeping track.

He just has a good memory, is all. He doesn't think about Wei Ying.

He doesn't.

Xiantober Day 9: Training

The Gusu Summer Training Camp is a highly regarded, very exclusive two-month program for 15-16 year olds. This program has hosted some of the world's most skilled Pokemon trainers, more than any other training program, and Wei Ying gets to go.

Xiantober Day 10: Fanartistxian

Wei Ying is very active in fandom online. He has amassed quite a large following over the years due to his fanart of his favourite characters. He does it for fun and is just glad that there are people who enjoy his art.

Xiantober Day 11: Courtingxian

Wei Ying has known Lan Zhan for many years. They're best friends and know each other incredibly well. That's why, at this point, Wei Ying is fairly certain that Lan Zhan reciprocates his feelings.

Xiantober Day 12: Falling

He's not too sure when it started, but it was sometime after moving into the Jingshi. Wei Wuxian finds it a tad odd that this started now that he's finally comfortable and safe. This is the most secure he's ever been and now he has to deal with this?

Xiantober Day 13: Inventorxian

Wei Wuxian was lying on the bed, feet up in the air and his head dangling over the edge as he read when Lan Wangji walked into the Jingshi.

"Wei Ying," he said.

Wei Wuxian met his husband's eyes and smiled at him upside down. "Hi, Lan Zhan!"

Friday nights are always swamped. The bar Wei Ying works at is in the middle of a busy area and attracts a lot of attention.

The thing people don't talk about is the fact that the Burial Mounds isn't just a haunted place where souls are trapped.

No.

The Burial Mounds is a landborne abyss.

It is a thing in and of itself.

And it hungers.

Xiantober Day 16: Folk Heroxian

If you speak to anyone in Yiling, you will hear about the famed Yiling Laozu, Wei Wuxian. His story is known far and wide and he is regarded as a hero.

The story goes that since the beginning of Yiling, a dragon raged.

Xiantober Day 17: Crowxian

Lan Zhan's new neighbour is annoying.

He is also alarmingly beautiful.

His new neighbour—Wei Ying—laughs often, talks a lot, and attracts crows to his house.

All in all, he's had worse neighbours.

Wei Ying treats the crows with kindness.

Xiantober Day 18: Wen Remnants

Wei Wuxian has had more families in his 20-odd years than most people have in a lifetime.

First, there were his parents. He knows he was loved dearly.

Second, there were the Jiangs. That was far more complicated. They weren't really family.

Xiantober Day 19: Royalxian

On the evening before Wei Ying's 23rd birthday, his parents sit him down to tell him that a marriage alliance has been formed between their kingdom and Gusu. Wei Ying is to marry the second prince whom he will meet at his birthday ball tomorrow.

Xiantober Day 20: Coffeeshopxian

Wei Ying recently started working at a local coffeeshop.

There's this regular who comes in for tea most mornings. He's just slightly taller than Wei Ying with the most stunning golden brown eyes and a stone-cold expression.

Xiantober Day 21: Ghost Ladies

There are three ladies.

Wei Wuxian found them one day and communicated with them to see how he could help them move on.

None of them desire to move on yet, they all long to stay by his side. They want to feel safe. They want to feel loved.

Xiantober Day 22: Shizunxian

Wei Wuxian, son of Wei Changze and Cangse Sanren, a disciple of the renowned Baoshan Sanren like his mother before him, reached the oft-sought-after status of immortality in his 33rd year.

He left the mountain after that to find his own path.

Xiantober Day 23: Detectivexian

Wei Ying loves his job. Sure, a lot of it is boring surveillance that either leads to absolutely nothing or the proof that "Yes, your husband IS a cheating scumbag." He's not complaining about that though, he's still paid for his time.

Xiantober Day 24: Found Family

Wei Ying has never really had a home, a family. He had his parents who loved him for his first few years of life but they were taken from him. Then, he was alone, bouncing around the system until the Jiangs took him in.

It was better than before.

Xiantober Day 25: Cookxian

Wei Ying is the proud owner of a small spicy noodle shop. It's a hole-in-the-wall kind of place, which obviously means his noodles are the best (true) and he has a slew of regulars bringing him a steady income. He loves his little shop.

Xiantober Day 26: Wuxiaxian

Lan Zhan has a secret.

There is one book that he reads over and over. He reads fanfiction for it and even writes it himself when he can't find enough for his favourite character.

It's a Wuxia novel, frowned upon by his uncle.

Xiantober Day 27: Flight

Wei Ying placed his suitcase in the overhead compartment before sitting in his seat with a sigh. He was tense and anxious, not about the flight but about what it represents.

He is leaving his old life to start anew.

On his own.

Xiantober Day 28: Wandering Poetxian

Wei Wuxian travels the land on the back of his beloved and strong-willed donkey, Little Apple, in search of something.

He doesn't know what exactly he's searching for.

A muse of sorts, he supposes.

He wanders and writes poetry.

Xiantober Day 29: Olderxian

Lan Zhan got hired by a big tech company right out of college. He is good at what he does and they know it. Because of that, he was fast-tracked to a management position by the time he turned 26. He loves his job.

Xiantober Day 30: Cottagecore

It's a cold winter's day when Lan Zhan turns 26.

It's a cold winter's day when Lan Zhan has to leave his home.

Most people don't have to when they turn 26. Most people aren't witches.

Turns out, Lan Zhan isn't like most people.

Xiantober Day 31: Happy Birthday

It's October 31st.

Lan Zhan wakes up at his usual early time (though not as early as it used to be, he adjusted that for college) and gets ready for the day. He feels a frisson of nerves.

It's Wei Ying's 23rd birthday today.

Lanuary Day 23: Lan Wangji's Birthday

Lan Zhan feels raw.

Usually, he has his weekends to decompress to avoid spiralling into either a meltdown or, worse, burnout. Unfortunately, this past weekend was filled with unmissable family events. Having Wei Ying with him helped.

Xiantober2024 Day 31: Batxian/Happy Birthday

During Wei Ying's highschool years all of the major universities with magic programs held tours and events so those looking to attend a school can find a good fit. Wei Ying went to them all despite figuring he'd go to Yunmeng.

Ten First Lines

I was tagged by @uefb thanks for the tag. I just realised I don’t really have many fics posted online, most of them are WIP and still in my drafts. Some will probably never see the light of day, and nearly all of them or at maybe just most of them are written for my own amusement or entertainment. Even with those in my drafts etc I still probably have less than 10. I’ll probably add a few Harry Potter fanfic as well as Fantastic beasts stuff just to make up numbers. I’ve also noticed while going through half the fics for this post, that I don’t even know where half the stories are going, most of them are just ideas my head throws at me, so they’re just a bunch of idea with unknown destinations. Just because the ideas seem good when they pop into my head. Lol! Anyway here goes.

1. Fantastic Beats and Where to find them: Of Beasts and Monsters

Newt rubbed his face as he looked out over Paris from the rooftops of the crypt.

I have one chapter posted on ao3, and trying to write chapter 2, I’ve started it, but it’s not going well. Lol! Newt is keeping secrets from Tina, one she shouldn’t know about and could land him into trouble and cost him their relationship.

2. The Magizoologist And The Human Mini-beasts

Newt stood transfixed at the scene before him with regret.

I posted this one somewhere on tumblr, but can’t find it through the tags system. It was part of the fantastic beasts week event from 2020 I think. The prompt for that day was to do a Fantastic beasts crossover with something else. This was a one shot, crossover with Kindergarten cop. If anyone has seen that movie, you’ll recognise the scene straight away. This one was a fun write. I may make it into a full story instead of just a one shot in the future. We’ll see. Tina is poorly and Newt is made to take on one her cases, but Newt’s not sure he wants to, and questioning what he’s doing there.

3. Letters From Home

Tina woke to the sun streaming in through the window, the light dazzling her eyes as she fought to open them.

This one was for day 3 of the Fantastic beasts week 2020 challenge. While it is posted as a one shot, and can be read as a separate thing, it will eventually be a part of Fantastic beasts: of beasts and monsters. (I guess I’m cheating. Look it still counts ok). Tina gets a letter from Toliver after the Paris incident, Newt and Jacob try to comfort her.

4. Creatures

Newt and Leta were sitting in their usual place in the little room, where Newt had kept his creatures hidden from prying eyes.

This one was day 1 of my Newty November challenge, the word prompt had been creatures so I did a one shot here on tumblr. It should be somewhere floating around. I think I could find this one, so might share link to it some point. We’ll see. Its just a short little ficlet thing, where Newt and Leta are tending to a new creature they’ve just found.

5. Of magical creatures

Newt stood watching the group of people who would be his students for the next few weeks, perhaps a month or even a year.

This one lives in my drafts and still unsure weather I will actually post this one anywhere at the moment. I wrote this as a sort of fun bit of writing, more for myself than anything. I wanted to explore and AU where Newt is asked to teach and train a few adults on magizoology, as a career path at Hogwarts. Dumbledore is headmaster of the school and thinks there should be more magizoologists in the world, helping Newt’s cause, and suggests Newt uses the school to teach a selection of adult students.

6. Fantastic Beasts and where to find them: The Newt and The Salamander

The Scamander twins had been very close and had a strong bond growing up, but as of late things had changed.

This is one that will probably never see the light of day, and will probably stay in my drafts as a hidden story, just for my eyes only I think. I wrote this one for my own entertainment. As you can see another AU. It starts off with the incident with the jarvey and Newt’s expulsion from Hogwarts, as the catalyst for the twin’s fall out. But after the events of Paris Newt needs to stop running, and avoiding his sister and enlist her help to bring down Grindelwald. Bonds have been broken, but must be reforged in order to work together. Newt is guilt ridden, his sister is angry. They must put grudges and mistakes of the past behind them and work together.

7. The Ring

Newt tried hard to stand still as Theseus straightened his bow for the umpteenth time. He was starting to regret the whole thing.

This one is going to be a two part one shot, which is a work in progress that I’m half way through. It’s part of a February word prompt challenge I took up, but never really managed to finish on time. I was so busy with doing the challenge I was hosting, that I only managed to do this in dribs and drabs alongside the picture for part two and parts of the fic for part two.

8. The Dinner Date

Newt and Tina made their way to a table near the back of the restaurant, a waiter taking their coats and pulling out Tina’s chair for her as she made to sit down.

This is part two of The Ring, again from the same word prompt challenge. The story beginning above being the word prompt ring, and this one the word prompt being Dinner date. As I say I’m working on a fan art to go with this one. I thought i’d finished it, but realised there were mistakes to the artwork and need to fix it. And also realised I’d forgotten to add things to it, so I have to go back and fix the picture. Started the story to this one, but realised I need to fix a few things because I don’t know much about dating etiquettes, and now realised I’m going to have to change the plot a little. I actually started the ring one after realising I needed to change parts of this story. I needed to make this one interesting somehow, so the ring was my way of fixing the mistake on this one. The mistake to this story was supposed to help make things a bit more interesting, but after asking a friend’s advice, I realised it wouldn’t work. So the ring had to be a part of it to make it a bit more I don’t know. Give it back story I guess.

9. Halloween At Hogwarts

With it being the first of October, the weather was changing, and autumn was now in full bloom.

This is or was a spin off to another story I’m working on. Things are not going well at Hogwarts and it’s up to Harry and his friends to stop whatever is haunting the school. What starts of as a fun Halloween game, becomes a Halloween nightmare for the staff and students at Hogwarts. This is the first long fanfic I actually managed to finish. I’m really bad at finishing long stuff.

10. The Scrooge Of Hogwarts

The students had gone home for the holidays, which meant it would be peaceful and quiet at Hogwarts.

A one shot story in which Snape is visited by three spirits. A HP and Scrooge crossover, I wrote for Christmas. This was a fun one to write, some of my friends and colleagues thought it was a fun read too.

Wow ok I actually didn’t do too badly, I managed to at least find 8 Fantastic beasts related stuff to post first lines of. Not bad. I thought it would be less. From doing this little exercise, I have learned that just writing the first line of your story doesn’t promote it well. Especially if they’re short one liners. Eek! That’s why I added a little description after each one, to make them sound a little more interesting. Lol! Ouch!
