Hello again 😊
📖- Other (Specify)
I was thinking Alvin coming to Vex for advice, maybe? 🤔
Thank you so much for this prompt, dear! It somehow turned into a mini ficlet and now I kind of want to write a whole series about Ho-Tan and her son not being accepted for who they are and their family raising hell to defend them.
Headcanon ask game can be found here.
📖 - Alvin coming to Vex for advice
When Alvin asks Vex how to be 'more of a boy' because some kids at school insist on calling him a girl, Vex's heart quietly breaks. He can tell Alvin is desperate to be accepted, can see it in his eyes and hear it in the way his voice wavers when he asks, "Is it my hair? Do you think I should I cut it?"
It reminds him of Ho-Tan and that difficult time when they were still living under her parents' roof and her parents refused to see her as anything other than their son. Vex couldn't remember how often he'd listened to her crying herself to sleep back then, but he remembers how much it hurt not being able to help.
So he gets down to Alvin's eye level and asks him, "Do you want to cut your hair?"
Alvin, reluctantly and almost ashamed, shakes his head. "I like that it looks like Mum's."
Vex exhales, relieved, and gives Alvin's shoulders a squeeze. "Good. Never change for other people, Alvin. They're not worth it."
"But they'll keep calling me a girl," Alvin sniffs.
"That only shows that they're idiots," Vex tells him, knowing it's not enough. "You're my son. Anyone who says differently is a Ninny."
Alvin lets out a watery chuckle before he tips forward and buries his head against Vex's chest. Vex holds him, just like he held Ho-Tan all those years ago and still does today every time she comes home after visiting her parents.
"I love you," he says, never wanting Alvin to doubt that, before he adds in a conspiratorial whisper, "And the next time someone calls you a girl, you punch them in the face."
Alvin is quiet for a moment before he shyly mumbles, "Irk might have already done that."
Vex, knowing his son can't see him, proudly grins.

Vex for the character ask game ☺️
Thank you! I love Vex so much 💙
One aspect about them I love:
“Deb-beh.” Do I need to say more? I just adore the way he speaks and all the funny little noises he makes.
One aspect I wish more people understood about them:
Why is this part always so hard? Lol. How about the fact that he actually is, as his title would suggest, rather wise? At least sometimes. We tend to think of the Elders as incompetent, if rather endearing idiots but every now and then Vex actually says something surprisingly clever. Like that one time when Debbie and Elf swapped bodies and he was the one who realized what the root of the problem was.
One (or more) headcanon(s) I have about this character:
He’s the son of an Overlord. The only basis I have for that is that his Younger killed a man which means Vex must have killed someone too. Or at least must think he did. I could see him vehemently trying to get out of the Overlord Coming Of Age Ritual by finding a thousand ways not to kill someone until his father finally has enough and firmly holds his hands in place on the bow and arrow to make sure Vex won’t miss this time. Vex runs away that very same night and finds himself in Yonderland a week later, scared, hungry and exhausted. Ho-Tan finds him sleeping under the apple tree in her parents’ garden and the rest, as they say, is history.
One character I love seeing them interact with:
Choop. The rivalry (for lack of a better word) they sometimes have going on is absolutely hilarious and one of my favourite things in the show. I just love moments like the cheese-scented candle scene or the “You want to dance, do you?” scenr and I wish we’d gotten more of them.
And also Debbie. Because every scene where those two interact and Vex either gets her name or that of her husband wrong is a blessing.
One character I wish they would interact with/interact with more:
Ho-Tan and Noah (that one guest at Debbie’s Christmas party). Both totally self-indulgent choices for shipping reasons but I would have loved it if we had gotten a scene where Vex comforts Ho-Tan after the Pipple Fruit Incident, and one where he goes back to Debbie’s world after the Thanktival shenanigans and invites Noah to come to Yonderland with him. Like, Noah could seriously be such a great side character. Just imagine Debbie’s face when she finds one of her friends / neighbours suddenly chilling in the Elders’ Chamber one day. 😂
One (or more) headcanon(s) I have that involve them and one other character:
Going back to Vex being the son of an Overlord headcanon, he almost has a heart attack when he finds out his own son killed someone. It’s bad enough that he can’t escape his past but that his son can’t either really messes with him even if it ultimately turns out the whole thing was an accident (think Pat’s death in Ghosts). But accident or not, it doesn’t change the fact that someone is dead and his son will now have to carry that guilt with him for the rest of his life.
Neither of them gets much sleep the next few weeks. Vex knows he should talk to his son about what happened but he can’t, so in the end Ho-Tan intervenes. She talks to both of them separately, explains to Vex’s Younger what his father went through as a child and tells Vex that it’s okay to still struggle with it. It takes a while but when they’re both ready to talk to each other she's right there and so, so proud of them.

📖- button house ghosts watching a film of your choosing

📖- Button House ghosts watching Night at the Museum
Movie nights are often a hit-and-miss in Button House. There's rarely a film all the ghosts enjoy and more often than not at least one of them gets offended or triggered by something (Thomas once hid in the lake for a whole night until Alison found him and apologised for not warning him about the duel in Hamilton).
When she puts on Night at the Museum, it turns out to be one of the few films everyone enjoys. Julian and Robin take gleeful delight in Dexter's antics while both the Captain and Fanny end up admiring Teddy Roosevelt (albeit for different reasons). Kitty thinks the love story between Teddy and Sacagawea is incredibly romantic, Humphrey takes a leaf out of the mo'ai statue's book and starts calling people Dum-Dum to get their attention whereas Mary finds Jedediah and Octavius most fascinating because they're "tiny peoples, Alison." Thomas ends up relating to Ahkmenrah the most and proceeds to write poems and essays about his plight for weeks afterwards. Alison supposes being murdered by family members plays a huge role in that. Pat, on the other hand, is fond of Rexy (and so is Fanny even though she won't admit it).
After the credits roll it's Robin who points out, "We a bit like them, yes? From different times and stuck in same house? Though me not as stupid as cavemen in film."
Thomas raises an eyebrow at him. "Have you seen your reaction to fire?"
Before a fight can break out, Alison decides to hit play on the second film.

🔀 Pat and his son
Thanks, anon! This one was fun!
Headcanon ask game can be found here.
🔀- Canon Divergence/Slight AU
After his dad died, Daley thought he would never see him again. He missed him fiercely, especially on those days when they went back to Button House to pay their respects to him. It felt like his dad was right there, just out of reach, and Daley wished he could talk to him just one last time and tell him how much he loved him.
His wish was granted when he was twenty and walking through a park one day. A football came out of nowhere and hit him in the head, and when he woke up a week later he was able to see ghosts. It took a while to get used to it - to not react to the Roman soldier waving at him on the street or the little boy who was haunting the neighbour's garden shed and had obviously died of the Plague.
When his dad's Death Day came around again Daley thought he was ready. He prepared himself for the worst - there was no reason to think his dad had become a ghost, after all. But then his dad came running out of the house, smiling and looking just like Daley remembered him, and Daley laughed through his tears and said, "He's here, Mum! He's here!" and, "I've missed you so much, Dad!" and, "I love you."

🌙- caphavers
Thank you, anon!

🌙- Pre-Canon
The Captain visited Havers' family with him once while he was on leave. He'd say Havers bullied him into it - "Sir, you can't spend your leave on base. You need to get out, live a little!" - but really, he'd been more than happy to go with him. It was probably his only chance of ever seeing Havers in a relaxed, non-military environment, free from all the discipline that usually ruled their lives, and not even the Captain's resolve was strong enough to resist that.
He hadn't expected the quiet walks through the countryside with Havers' dog Barry, nor the late night talks out in the garden under the stars or the smiles shared over breakfast. It only took a few short days for the Captain to feel at home in Havers' old life, and when it was time to say goodbye and go back to the war, he knew deep down that he would spend the rest of his life mourning the quiet mornings where so much had seemed possible yet remained unsaid.

The Six Idiots-related headcanons from this ask by the lovely @theancientvaleofsoulmaking.
Headcanon ask game can be found here.
🌅- Post-Canon (Ho-Tan)
The day Ho-Tan gives up her seat on the Council is both one of the happiest and saddest days of her life. She's ready to step down and begin a new chapter of her life together with Vex in the little house on the edge of town they'd been renovating for months now. But at the same time she finds it hard to say goodbye to the place that has been her home for most of her life, and to the people who have been more of a family to her than her real one ever was. It's a bittersweet moment for her, and yet when she hands over her robes to Alvin and sees her son beaming up at her with so much pride, she knows it's the right thing to do. Alvin is ready, and so is Irk, and they will lead the realm into a bright future. She can feel it in her heart.
"Thanks for everything, Mum," Alvin whispers and, breaking protocol, hugs her so tightly Ho-Tan can't help but laugh through her tears. A moment later, Irk and Vex join in and she just knows everything will be okay.
🌙- Pre-Canon (The Captain)
The Captain marries in his late thirties. Mathilda is a nice girl he's known since childhood and who, just like him, is tired of being constantly asked why she isn't married yet. It's not a marriage of love, of course - they're both very much aware of that. But it suits them well and the Captain doesn't mind sharing a flat with her. He might be away a lot but it's nice to have someone to come home to.
He knows his wife is in love with her best friend. Margaret is over at their flat so often the Captain would have to be blind not to notice the looks the two of them share when they think no one is looking. It makes his heart ache without knowing why. He's happy for Mathilda and will gladly play the part of husband for the rest of his life if it gives her a shot at happiness.
Then the war breaks out, and Mathilda takes him aside one day and says, "I hope you'll find your own Margaret one day - before it's too late."
It's the first time either of them has ever put this open secret into words. The Captain has no idea what she's implying until the day Lieutenant Havers stands in front of his desk and smiles at him so charmingly his heart misses a beat and he forgets how to breathe.
Oh, he thinks, and immediately buries that feeling deep within him because he's not like Mathilda. He'll never be brave like her.

✿ fluffy headcanon: pat and the captain
Thank you! 💙
A few days after spending the night camping on the grounds the Captain pulls Pat aside.
"Patrick," he says and clears his throat. "I was wondering - that is, if it isn't too much trouble - could you teach me some of those knots you taught Alison?"
He's terribly nervous and doesn't know why. It's just Pat, after all. They're friends. It shouldn't be so utterly terrifying to ask him something but it is, especially when Pat just blinks up at him in surprise. Thinking he's just made a huge mistake, the Captain is about to open his mouth and apologise when Pat's face suddenly breaks out into sunny smile. "Sure, mate!"
For a moment the Captain can only stand there and stare, dumbfounded, while Pat starts mumbling to himself, already attempting to figure out how they can make it work ("It's not ideal but we could use your tie and my neckerchief, I suppose.").
Slowly, the nervousness the Captain feels give way to a soft, gentle flutter of happiness. He smiles to himself as Pat goes on about the different kinds of knots he used to teach, glad he scrounged up his courage for once and made the first step.

Watching Buzzfeed Unsolved Supernatural after seeing BBC Ghosts is so funny because every time Ryan tells the ghosts to turn on the flashlight I keep imagining Julian standing there and grumbling about how hard it is.
Ryan: Nope, that wasn't fast enough. Can't let it count. Try again. Turn the flashlight on right now if you're here with us.
Julian: What am I, your personal light switch?
(Then Robin does his thing and gives them such a light show Ryan and Shane think the flashlight is faulty and dismiss the evidence altogether.)

Headcanon time
Thomas can feel the cold.
I'm new to the fandom so I'm sorry if this has already been discussed before but when Thomas is in the lake we can see his breath when he exhales. The only way that's possible is if his body temperature is similar to that of a living person since condensation only happens when warm, moist breath meets cold air.
Taken that into account, I don't believe it's too far-fetched to think that in turn, temperature has an effect on him as well, meaning he can feel the warmth of a fire or the cold of an autumn wind. We even sort of see that in the show. In the beginning of 3x03, it always seemed to me that Thomas looked a bit uncomfortable, like he was cold and wanted to hunch his shoulders against the wind. I realize that's likely just Mat freezing in that thin shirt of his (I always feel bad for him because everyone else is at least dressed somewhat warmly) but it does fit nicely with the headcanon that Thomas is affected by temperature.
So what if that's Thomas's ghostly power but he never realized it? What if he always thought the other ghosts can feel the cold too and thus never mentioned it? Just imagine if one day, the others or Alison noticed him shivering - or he mentioned it in an off-hand way and everyone's just like, "Uhm, no. We can't feel the cold, mate."
So much chaos and drama would ensue. And Thomas would probably go and drown himself in the lake again.
(Perhaps I should turn this into a fic: 5 times Thomas felt the cold and 1 time someone noticed.)

I know there are already quite a few posts about the ghosts' potential powers out there but I thought I'd add my own thoughts to the mix anyway because who knows, maybe I've come up with something new?
Thomas - can feel the cold. I've already made a post about this here but the short version would be: there are two scenes where we can see his breath which leads me to believe he can feel temperature. He might be able to interact with it as well though I personally think that's unlikely, at least if it's triggered by emotional responses. Someone would have noticed by now lol.
Pat - can interact with the Spirit Box. A Spirit Box is a piece of equipment that constantly cycles through radio frequencies and allows ghosts to speak through it (note: the machine Pat (and Thomas) talked into in 2x01 was something different). We saw Pat using a radio in a flashback once and I think this power would tie in nicely with that.
The Captain - can possess people. He's essentially one person split in two (the cracked mirror) because on the outside, you get the man who's all about the military and essentially defines himself through his rank, while on the inside you get the real person, the one who has dreams and hobbies and once upon a time fell in love but could never act on his feelings. Being able to possess someone could be an extension of that, in a way, I think. Another mask for the Captain to wear, so to speak.
Kitty - can be seen in mirrors. I've chosen Cap's other popular theory for her because of the way she's sort of living in two worlds - the real one and the one she makes up in her head. The latter is a distortion of reality, just like looking into a mirror can be.
Humphrey - can cause cold spots in the house but only when his head and body are united. The reason why I chose this one for Humphrey is because his life seems very lonely to me. While he and his wife certainly cared about each other to some degree they were still miserably stuck in a marriage of convenience. I think Humphrey's powers would reflect this lack of emotional closeness and warmth in his life really well.
The plague ghosts - can float. This one is based on absolutely nothing except me finding the idea of them forgetting they can do that because they've been stuck in the basement for too long hilarious. Also, wouldn't it be great if Mike wasn't completely wrong to look up at the ceiling / sky every time he's talking to the ghosts?

Reccs Refsheet, 2022 edition~
Meet Reccs the kobold! Panic Barbarian, anxious (over)eater, and nervous wrecking ball~
My D&D group’s paladin player offered to DM a one-shot adventure for us to segue the crew back to the homebrew campaign after finishing Curse of Strahd, and thanks to the insistent existence of my friend Blu’s kobold Flick, it’s a kobold-focused adventure. And this jumpy kneebreaker of a lizardrat gal is my character for that! c: Loud noises freak her out, so other ‘bolds clamoring has caused her to clear a room with panicked tail sweeps. And when she Rages, it’s more of a sobbing freakout aimed to hit whatever’s tripped her anxiety.

when Critical Role was on campaign 2 i cracked a few jokes about the Mighty Nein being “your average queer friend group” but campaign 3’s team blew that whole concept out of the water. THIS is the queer friend group, pretty sure I’ve been to this exact brunch before
cheerful goth girl, less cheerful pastel girl she hangs out with, enby punk who’s really into rocks, overly friendly enby who barely views gender as a concept, the older guy who’s not 100% sure how he got there and he might even be straight but he’s cool so we keep him, a short dude who has the group’s common sense all to himself, hot musician who isn’t nearly as smooth as he looks like he should be, green witch type who’s very calm overall but who is secretly THE most terrifying in the group …
for real i’ve just been to this party several times
