I think there's something that needs to be said about encouraging readers to leave feedback.

For me it's not about "tell me my writing is amazing and stroke my ego"

It's more about "please engage with me so that I can experience your joy secondhand and foster a connection with you"

I understand that not everyone wants this in their reading experience, some people are shy and a million other reasons why maybe someone wouldn't want to engage and that's perfectly fine!

But what I'm trying to steer away from is being a passive content creator with passive consumers. What I want to steer toward is fostering a community that is essential to fandom. I want to see your reactions because it makes me feel like I'm a part of something.

On encouraging reblogs —

I understand that not everyone is comfortable reblogging, especially explicit content. This is ok!

But just consider that the only reason you were able to enjoy a fic or fanart is because someone else shared it, and by not sharing it yourself you are potentially robbing someone else of the opportunity to enjoy it as much as you did.

As OPs our reach only goes so far and this website relies on reblogs in order for anything to truly get seen by a wider audience.

So that's really it! That's why I encourage these two things at the end of every story I post. Not because I'm trying to be demanding and "make people feel bad" if they don't do it.

I know most other social media sites encourage mindless content consumption and that's just the way of the world nowadays, but I am from a time when community was at the heart of fandom and I just don't want to lose that.

This week, I read a fic that was around 20 years old, which had originally been posted on the author's personal website and which she added to AO3 a few years ago. She listed her email address with the fic, so after I finished reading, I sent her an email saying how much I enjoyed the story, how much I appreciated the work and effort she obviously put into it, and thanked her for uploading it to AO3. She responded the next day and thanked me for my message, then said she had a few more stories in the same series that she hadn't gotten around to uploading. I checked this morning--she added a 35,000 word novella and thanked me in the summary.

💥 What is one canon thing that you wish you could change?

does it count as a canon thing if we're talking real life? honestly, the only thing i would change is that hybe/big hit should release all the behind the scenes kookmin footage they're holding hostage. we have so many moments that got cut off early, i wanna see them all

🦋 Which character is your favorite to write?

historically jimin. it's always been easiest for me to write him and also he is very fun to write! but these days i also really enjoy writing jeongguk. also when i answer this question i am talking about it in terms of who's pov i enjoy writing most and i've almost always wanted to write from jimin's pov but rn i have 3 wips that are all in jk's. i think the appeal lies in wanting to write abt how horny and insane jm makes jk feel.

🥳 Why did you start writing fanfic?

i've always loved stories. i was a voracious reader when i was kid and i think that tends to lead into wanting to tell your own stories. i started writing sometime when i was 9 or 10 and without realising it, was writing self-insert fic until i was 14ish. i started doing that because i liked writing about me and my friends in stories and then i kept going because fandom gave me community and i was often times a lonely child. there was also a time i only wrote original fiction but i came back to fic arnd 18-19 when i was lonely at university and once again needed community and where do you always find community? fandom. although, i find it is a little harder these days.

🌻 How often do you read your own fics?

fairly often lol sometimes there is a comfort you are seeking that only your own fic can fulfill because you wrote it at a time when you wanted that comfort and couldn't find it. usually after i post something, i don't reread it for a while (a few months to a year) but then it becomes easier to go find that fic and read it. i do tend to reread my shorter fics more often though, less of a commitment.

🎯 Do you have a writing milestone you’re working towards?

yes! i have a fic i want to write that is going to be very worldbuilding and plot heavy but i need to balance all of that with the themes of abuse and trauma i want to explore. i think it's a fic that requires me to do a lot of research so i am still in that stage but because i'm reading some trauma heavy material, i get slowed down because it's heavy and unfortunately, i appear to always be attempting to survive through some kind of ordeal which makes it harder to read about others' trauma. but also, i've accepted that just because i'm slow going at creating stuff, doesn't mean i shouldn't be putting in the effort. i really enjoy writing because i really enjoy story-telling.

❤️ What is your favorite line that you’ve written in a fic?

i don't think i have a favourite line the same way i don't have a favourite fic. there's always lines i'm really proud of in every fic and i always tend to love the last fic i wrote the most haha but! here is a line i wrote a long time ago that i do rly love:

"He’s born at twilight, on the cusp of night and day, a slow ache. He feels it in his chest, an emptiness following him around like a lost boy looking for home." - from i was born knowing you

and from a fic that will be posted after the zine is released: "Jimin has always treated his feelings for Jeongguk a little like an adult playing peek-a-boo with a child. If Jimin covered up and hid the enormous, pulsing desire writhing inside of himself, it obviously wasn’t there. If he never gave the way Jeongguk made his belly swoop, the apples of his cheeks burning, tongue tied, a name, then it wasn’t real. If Jimin fell, and kept falling, then he would never land."

granted these aren't single lines so forgive me but sometimes you need the build up for the line to land the way you want it to.

👻 What is your wildest headcanon?

that jeongguk will find a way to get jimin pregnant. he will defy biology. if anyone could, it would be jaykay

🎁 Have a piece of a WIP you want to share?

this is the opening scene to the kmss fic i was going to write (but i had to drop out of the fest due to work and a myriad of personal life things happening). it's a fantasy isekai au that is kind of a romcom but also there are near death experiences:

Jeongguk dies on a weekday.

It all feels rather mundane now -- he��d been heading home from university, the streets of Seoul busy and lively as they always were, the sound of little kids screaming and laughing mixing in with the sound of traffic.

He was 24 and in his last year of university, his greatest accomplishment to date being that he’d made it to Champion Rank in Overwatch after many years of being cursed out by his mother for not focusing on school more. Eventually, he’d moved on to other games and well. It’s actually kind of sad that he’s died already because he’d almost beaten Elden Ring after months of getting his ass handed to him and now he was dead and everyone would know that he didn’t even beat it. How was he going to live this down?

Right.

He stares up at the ceiling of what he thinks is the afterlife -- surprising to see that the afterlife has a ceiling. Jeongguk had always thought everything would just be like, grey and amorphous or something. Why did the afterlife need a ceiling?

Also, why did the afterlife feel so painful? 

His back is killing him and his chest feels like someone’s hit him with a car. That part may be because Jeongguk died after being hit by a car but he’s pretty sure he’d been hit -- oh, wait.

He did get hit in the chest. 

Well, he got hit all over because he’d been crouched down trying to save a stupid little kid from getting smashed into and punted through the air. He wonders, fleetingly, if the kid survived.

All in all, Jeongguk can’t recommend the experience.

He coughs, a puff of green smoke escaping him, and Jeongguk blinks, wheezing as he attempts to suck in a single breath despite how shrivelled up his lungs feel. If he’s being honest, this feels far worse than just getting hit by a car although he doesn’t have a wealth of experience with such a thing so maybe he shouldn’t come to any conclusions.

Still, there’s a strange tingling feeling running through his body, mixed in with the dull throb that pulses through him everywhere.

Shouldn’t the afterlife be pain free?

“Are you alive?”

The voice comes from somewhere to Jeongguk’s left and despite asking after his wellness, sounds entirely uninterested in if he’s actually alive or not. If he had the energy he’d look over but as it stands, Jeongguk is still struggling to get that single breath in and he’s pretty sure his clothes are soaked through because they feel rather sticky. God, he hopes it’s not blood. Could he even be bleeding this much?

“Jeongguk!”

This is a different voice and definitely seems to care about him even if Jeongguk doesn’t recognize it. A head pops up in his field of vision, a shock of purple hair greeting him and wow, the afterlife was very strange. His mother’s not going to be happy about these “alternative” lifestylers when she gets here.

“She’s going to be so sad,” Jeongguk says, the words croaking out of him.

“Who’s going to be so sad?” the person hovering above Jeongguk asks, their eyes -- also purple, Jeongguk notes -- blinking in confusion. 

Jeongguk realises that the pain in his body has eased down into a bearable throb, mostly centered in his chest, and pushes himself up. The room spins for a moment, and Jeongguk has to squeeze his eyes shut lest he throw up. 

A hand is rubbing his back and the sticky sensation in his clothes disappears the longer he sits up. When Jeongguk does open his eyes, he finds that his clothes are suspiciously dry and very much not his own. Unless he’s forgotten when he purchased himself black robes and a frilly, ruffled dress shirt.

“I told you not to add the dragon’s blood until after the nectar of Spring’s Day,” the purple person says, waving a hand in front of Jeongguk’s face. “Should I get Hoseok?”

“He said the incantation wrong.” This is the first voice and with Jeongguk’s newly acquired alertness he looks over to the left and finds a black cat, paws curled in toward its chest, sitting in a windowsill.

“I did not,” Jeongguk argues, brows furrowing together. He’s not even sure where that came from but the cat looks at him like he’s the stupidest person on Earth -- it’s a kind of condescension Jeongguk could only aspire toward. 

Then his brain seems to catch him up on what’s just happened: he’s arguing with a cat. 

More specifically, he’s arguing with a talking cat.

“You’re a cat,” he says rather eloquently.

The cat, already deeply unimpressed, snorts -- could cats even do that? -- and curls up, head turning inwards so that it can stop looking at Jeongguk. He’s been dismissed.

“Ignore Yoongi,” the purple-haired person says, helping Jeongguk to his feet. He smiles at Jeongguk, twin dimples peeking out of his cheeks and through the fuzz in Jeongguk’s head, he notes that this man is terribly handsome and very well colour-coordinated. He must really love the colour purple because he’s wearing an indigo robe over his own frilly white, ruffled shirt along with a pair of matching pants. “He’s just angry his punishment still has several more years left.”

Who names a cat Yoongi? Jeongguk thinks, glancing around the room. He notes that the walls are made entirely of stone, curving inward into a perfect circle, and that there is a bubbling cauldron sitting in the center of the room, the walls lined with an assortment of jars, hanging herbs, more books than Jeongguk thinks could actually fit into this space, and God knows what else. 

He blinks, an eerie sense of recognition beginning to gnaw at him.

Jeongguk turns his head back toward the man in the room with him. It takes him about half a second to realise that this person looks terribly familiar and not in the, oh, did we go to high school together kind of way but in the aren’t you a character in a boy’s love webnovel I dedicated the last year of my life to kind of way.

Jeongguk’s eyes widen.

“Oh shit.”
