With 2024 coming to an end, I just wanted to give a quick shout-out to my favourite fics I (re)read this year. I have so so much appreciation for all writers creating beautiful works about our beloved angel and demon pair. Reading these sometimes funny, sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes sappy, sometimes deliciously filthy stories has been a constant source of joy. I truly can't even begin to describe how thankful I am to be part of such an incredibly creative and loving fandom. So so much gratitude for all the different versions of them, all the genders, all the tropes, all the canon fics, and all the human AUs. There are so many more amazing fics I read this year and there are so many more to explore in 2025, but the following few have made themselves a home in my heart. I promise they're worth a read! đ [I do fic recs all year long, check out this tag for more.]
Date by @ddagent (2.5k, T)
Every year, Aziraphale is spoiled on his birthday. This year, he decides to do the same for Crowley. There's only one problem - he's not actually sure when Crowley's birthday is.
Roller Derby Queen by @summerofspock (2.5k, M)
Crowley skates for Hell on Wheels and she's pretty good at it too. She'd be better if she weren't so distracted by the new skater on the opposing team.
Sweet Nectar of the Eldritch Gods by @brenna (3.2k, G)
Azira writes a letter to the purveyor of her favorite honeys and sweetness ensues. No offence, but who says âby the by,â by the way? Itâs adorable? By the by, do you like wine? Crowley
Poor Men by @why-not-go-with-style (3.9k, G)
What To Do When Two of Your Professors Are Hopelessly in Love With Each Other: an instruction manual by Adam Young (featuring Pepper Moonchild because someone has to be the voice of reason here).
!False (It's Funny Because It's True) by @mirjam-writes (6.4k, E)
Aziraphale drew a long breath through his nose. Crowley, of course it had to be Crowley. The new guy in the sales department, who would promise potential customers just about anything to close a deal. Arrogant, annoying â and wildly, stupidly attractive. Aziraphale hated him. Aziraphale is a stellar software architect and a project manager, who is so done with the sales department selling unrealistically scheduled and budgeted projects. And he definitely doesn't have a crush on anyone, thank you very much.
Show me where the Nightingale sings by @sabotage-on-mercury (6.5k, G)
After settling into their new home in the South Downs there are still things to process for Aziraphale and Crowley before they can start a new chapter of their life. But winter is turning into spring. There is magic abroad in the air. And finally, the nightingale is back.
The Art of Human Nature by @ineffable-doll (6.5k, T)
Crowley is a painter who has only ever had an eye for nature. That is, until a client named Aziraphale commissions her for a painting to boost her self-confidence, and Crowley discovers that her client is as beautiful as the Earth itself. Then she goes and catches feelings, because sheâs a disaster.
Lit by @fellshish (12k, T)
Crowley takes a university course on literature and surprise! The book theyâre discussing is Good Omens. Uh oh.
Paradigm Shift by @hakunahistata (13k, E)
âApologies, apologies! The time got away from me.â Aziraphale Fell entered the room brightly, a binder in one hand, tea mug in the other. Crowleyâs languid sprawl went rigid as the senior accounting analyst who had been the indulgent secret in the back of his mind took the seat opposite him. Â Or, Crowley Pines at the Office: An AU.
Feast by @ashfae, mostlyjustgoose (15k, E)
Crowley's spent the whole of lockdown asleep. Aziraphale has spent the whole of lockdown baking, cooking, and becoming increasingly frustrated with his solitude. Which eventually leads him to the perfect way to solve all his problems at once... Or, Aziraphale attempts to seduce Crowley with a truly excellent meal, and Crowley is amenable.
Ever-Fixed by @hkblack (19k, E)
Aziraphale Fell had a plan. Go to school, get his degree, and start his life with his beloved at his side as man and wife. Until one day Crowley disappears. Decades later he meets a man, and finds the love of his life again. Anthony J. Crowley, suave, cool, masculine, in control, unflappable, has spent decades building himself up. He refuses to let his confident facade disappear for Aziraphale, who once almost tumbled down the stairs to certain death because his nose was stuck in a book. Itâs just sex, and theyâve been dating for months, this time around. Thereâs no need to get his knickers in a knot. But the past isnât easy to let go of, even if youâre both avoiding it. A story about love, intimacy, and finding each other again. (Alternatively: Tender smut, but then I wrote love story flashbacks, and now it's just emotional and there's plot in my pornography)
Fireworks by @optimistic-starlight (19k, E)
He had to get himself under control. Aziraphale needed him. That prick boyfriend of his drained so much of Aziraphale's time and energy, dampened so much of the gentle, beaming happiness that Crowley had always adored about him. He needed Crowley there to support him, to do the things a best friend should be there to do. And, well, if Crowley needed him too, if he had to subsume his own pain to focus on making Aziraphale happy, that was something he could bear quietly. He could do it for his angel. Crowley groaned and dropped his head against the tiled wall of the shower. His angel. He had to stop thinking of him like that.
Maybe Next Christmas by @flamingbentleyy (21k, T)
Airports were tricky business, but waiting in airports was as close to hell as one could possibly get. Nobody knew it better than Aziraphale, whose luck had made him end up in one right on Christmas Eve of all days. Although his airport experience turned a little less hellish and a whole lot more entertaining after he ran into an old college friend in that same airport. And then again. And againâŠ
The Small Ad by @theladydrgn, @sylwritesstuff (32k, E)
WORK WANTED: Partner For Hire. Tall, lanky ginger of arguable gender available to be your significant other to keep pesky relatives, nosy coworkers, or well-meaning friends at bay. Able to be as annoying or as polite as you like. Causing a fight over Christmas dinner with your odd, bigoted uncle/aunt/cousin will require an extra ÂŁ200 up front. ÂŁ50 for the first hour, negotiable otherwise. Ciao. Â It isn't the sort of advertisement Aziraphale usually paid any attention to, but desperate times do indeed call for desperate measures.
Heavenly Wicked Cafe by @waitingtobebroken (33k, T)
There is a terribly rude barista that makes amazing coffee and a saint of a barista, whose coffee tastes vile. And they are in love.
Petrichor & Parchment by @katnoggin (33k, E)
âMr. Crowley, I presume?â Aziraphale asked in lieu of an introduction, which was not forthcoming. The guy hadnât even removed his sunglasses. Oh God, he had a tattoo on his face. Aziraphale wasnât one to judge, but⊠what kind of gardener had a snake tattoo on his face? Now also available as a podfic from Literarion  [Huuuge recommendation for the podfic!!]
The Heart of the Forest by Kalimyre (33k, E)
Retired librarian Aziraphale moves into a small, isolated cottage deep in the forest with a strange history. He soon realises he's not alone in the woods; a presence watches him. But as he begins to befriend the stranger that lurks in the trees, Aziraphale comes to understand there's more to him than appearances suggest - and Aziraphale's own destiny may be tied to the mysterious creature with the golden eyes.
in your own time by @ineffabildaddy (33k, E)
Aziraphale and Crowley grew up together as next-door neighbours on Hogback Lane, classmates at the local Catholic school, and inseparable best friends. By the age of eighteen, both were hopelessly in love with the other, despite the knowledge that they were doomed to live apart, as Crowley aimed to pursue university study in London and Aziraphale committed himself to remaining in Tadfield, dedicating his life to the Church. After almost twenty years spent away from his hometown, renowned botanist Crowley decides to come and visit Tadfield again at a moment's notice; the purpose of his visit is to speak at a Careers Day for the school he and Aziraphale, now a beloved priest and a frequent helper at the school, attended. The twenty-four hours that follow will change both of their lives for ever.
Between Comfort And Chaos by anathxmadevice (45k, T)
âAnd how long have you two been a couple?â âOh, Iââ Aziraphale panics. âHa, well, thatâs a funny⊠Weâre not actuallyââ âWeâre just friends.â Crowley says, their voice clear and calm and lightly amused, either because of or in spite of Aziraphaleâs flailing attempts to divert the conversation. âAh, yes, quite.â Aziraphale says, then takes a sip of his drink just for something to do, instead of focussing on the way Crowley said just friends, and how it causes a painful throb in his chest that he has never fully got used to. His memory can only scrabble at the edge of a time where being just friends with Crowley didnât feel like a particular form of torture. * Or, Aziraphale has been desperately in love with his best friend and housemate Crowley since they were students, but is too scared to do anything about it.
Loving You Slow by @tawnyontumblr (46k, E)
Crowley just wants to dance, but he's not prepared to sell his soul (and other things) at Mayfair's Hellfire Club to do it. Tending bar at The Bookshop in Soho is just the escape he needs, providing Crowley can convince the clubâs owner he really belongs on the stage. Unfortunately Aziraphale Eastgate is not quite the generous guardian angel Crowley has been led to believe. Welcome to The Bookshop, where it always pays to look under the covers.
A Billion Points of Light by akitsuko (50k, E)
The firefighter lifts the visor on their helmet, and Crowley may not be able to see very well, but those are the most beautiful eyes heâs ever seen in his life. Crowley has never been one for the whole 'love at first sight' business, but he may need to reassess after Aziraphale - a gorgeous firefighter - saves his life.
More Than by @naromoreau (55k, E)
Crowley would like to spend another year without marrying, especially when thrust-forced to pick a husband. She refuses to cave in on a matter of principles. She refuses to cave in specifically on a matter of not wanting to be married to Lucien Morningstar. But she might need a hand to break free from such a burden. And who knows? She might even find something else along the way.
Lavender Apiary Of Your Honey Eyes by @snek-of-eden (66k, E)
The first thing Aziraphale registered was fiery red hair matted with sweat. The second thing was the manâs face, sharp and intelligent and a little guarded, sunlight dappling a spray of freckles. Upon seeing this, two contradictory thoughts crossed his mind: âGosh, heâs prettyâ, and âI donât believe Iâve ever heard a man use that many expletives in the space of a minuteâ. âOh,â he said, swallowing hard. âHello, then.â __________ When Aziraphale inherits a small, cosy cottage in the countryside, he finds unexpected company in a gardener he didn't even know he had. Crowley is sweet, and strange, and about as foul-mouthed as you can get. Before he knows it, he's falling pretty goddamn hard for a man whose friendship he's terrified of risking. Ah, the foils of love.
Old Vines by @sevdrag (189k, E)
A.Z. Fell, one of the most respected names in wine and food blogging, has been sent on assignment with his assistant Warlock Dowling to spend six months in California Wine Country. Under direction (by his boss, Gabriel) to use this experience to double his blog followers and write a novel, Aziraphale is both excited and anxious about the opportunity. Anthony J. Crowley is the owner and viticulturalist of Ecdyses, a winery that unexpectedly fell into his lap eleven years ago when he hit rock bottom. He may be in debt, yeah, but heâs paying off his loans â and despite pressure from his lenders and their team of inspectors, Crowley has found a kind of contentment tending his little corner of terroir and producing extraordinary wine. Crowleyâs old vines are the heart of his vineyard, and heâs never let anyone in. Crowley finds Aziraphale intriguing; Aziraphale finds Crowley enthralling. Turns out a famous wine expert and an experienced viticulturalist can still learn things from each other. The summer of 2019 unfolds. [Big recommendation for the podfic here too!!]

I've seen a comment that has been on my mind a lot lately, that the fandom was dead and that there was some gatekeeping. And to be honest, I have no idea if it's true or not and I want to reflect on it.
I've been away for two years, and for sure Tumblr is different. It's not about people, because they are always lovely fans no matter what. I also don't think I have nostalgia goggles telling me "things were better back then" lol I think it's just that Tumblr, for all its flaws, used to have more public fandom discussions. For better or worse, because posting a reply could encourage discussions that were better left alone - but now it seems like nothing is really public or fandom-wide. It's no longer the norm. Replies are left in the post itself so you have less reblogs with discussions. It's very self contained, which, in my humble opinion, might lose a bit of a sense of community.
The main tag itself used to be filled, and now it's not, clearly because a lot of people aren't active anymore. But it's not just that? I find that I discover more posts using the search function, so I'm always a bit confused about how people tag or intend their posts to be found. Maybe it's just me, but it's unclear to me. And I'm at fault too, I've been very intent on not tagging the main tag for a while, and I don't know why. It's not like I'm hiding, but it felt like my playthrough ramblings didn't belong there. Which is ridiculous, because I wouldn't feel that way about posts like this made by other people. I would want to find those in the tag.
I have a feeling a lot more discussions are now happening on Discord, which is not for me. I don't have the mental capacity for now to check a server every day, see new messages and reply. I tried and it's too much. I would feel the same about fandom boards, though they're less instant, so who knows.
Then you have other apps, which don't always encourage discussions. I've been trying to find vids on TikTok, some are great, but the algorithm fed me a lot of ranking companions type of vids with character bashing so I just paused the whole thing.
Then the gatekeeping, I don't know. I think I learned a lot and matured a bit, so I hope my own behavior in fandom is better and more chill than it used to be. But if I am gatekeeping one way or another, you have to tell me. I mean it. Just flat out tell me and explain, because I would never try to be like this on purpose, and I would need to know what I'm doing wrong to do better.
Lately there have been some DA fans who are experiencing ME for the first time and I'm happy for them. There's a lot of joy in discovering this universe, and I would hate for anyone, me included, to take that away from them.
I'm happy when I get to fill the queue, when people are involved, when there are discussions, when we have fun. That's what I want for Appreciation Weeks, even if I know it will be smaller than other years. It's in a few days and I would hate for anyone not to participate because they worry about how they will be received. If there are ways I can make it more welcoming, tell me!

Hey, one last time for the year đ«
I mean this wholeheartedly. Thank you for existing. Thank you so so very much. Thank you for coming over here and being active within this part of the community with us. You had arrived just in time to help me survive this all. I've expressed it before and I really fucking mean it. Thank fuck and thank the heavens and respectfully đđœ thank your wonderful mother for having such a spitfire as yourself. I truly appreciated your presence so freaking much. When I say I don't believe I could've lasted much longer than I had here without you, I just couldn'tve. This fandom is utterly draining, but gosh, I'm so forever grateful because, man, oh man, the blessings I was able to experience staying were out of this world.
You were just what I needed to bring back my interest to partake happily again. You had seriously brought my confidence back and gave me the strength to interact with so many other wonderful mutuals without the total fear of judgment that had been (still is) plaguing this fandom that I and many others were (are) experiencing. I'll never forget that.
Thank you for your resilience and for tolerating so much stupid bullshit from everyone for whatever sake it might still be for. Fuck, you didn't (don't) deserve that shit, but thank you for willing through it all and being a voice for so many like myself. đ«¶đŸ
Thank you for being one of the positive reasons people came together and stuck together. This has been a particularly difficult fandom to be a part of, more than ever this year, but you made it just a little easier. Just a little happier. Just a little safer. Just a little better. As always, I wanted to show honest gratitude. It's the least I can do. Thank you, stranger. Thank you for helping, educating, opening discussions, being sarcastic, making us laugh, bringing smiles, spreading hope, advocating, protecting, calling out hate, standing up for a vast variety and being a safe place to us to vent and feel seen and heard and loved and represented. Thank you for being loud. Thank you for picking us up and dusting us off and giving us a shoulder. Thank you for not giving up, especially not on us and our shared happiness.
I finally accepted everything this show and overall community has done, and I'm ready to move on from this year, but not without saying thanks to some important people for letting me tag along. And I'll definitely make my rounds with other members, but you'll always hold a special place in my heart. I wish you the best and much success and joy and love. I hope you continue being the rambunctious smart-assed quick-witted fact holding funny as hell little cheese ball that you are. And I hope to come back to this fandom next year and still see you around. You're pretty cool. Godspeedđ«°đœ
Anon.
Thank you. This touched me deeply, and I feel the exact same to everyone I've interacted with in this fandom â€ïž
I'll still be here. Happy New Year!

While I agree with this, itâs important to mention that TikTok and YouTube FORCING people to use terms like âr-word,â âgrape,â âSA,â âpdf fileâ and other wording is what contributed to things like people not saying words like ârape,â âsexual assault,â âgrooming,â and âsex,â when stating opinions and/or facts.
This is not a jab towards everyone who uses the substitute words, I can see where some of them come from when doing that. Not all of them are doing that coming from a place of immaturity. They are doing it from a place of trying to play it safe on Tumblr, because youâll never know. People falsely report people over something innocuous or because they hated their opinion on a ship or character, Tumblr has falsely flagged my posts that donât even break TOS, like a Simpsons meme of Homer bundled up in a blanket like a burrito got flagged as âinappropriateâ for some reason. So people just do not want to take those chances.
On YouTube, big names make a living making videos. Despite things like discussing disturbing facts for example or true crime, YouTube is going to demonetize the hell out of those YouTubers. Matthew Santoro for example now has to use substitute words whenever he discusses true crime or disturbing facts otherwise he gets demonetized. Another YouTuber I follow named âItâs Blankoâ started out being a TikTok creator and he had to censor himself and he still has to censor himself even when heâs talking about serious subject matter.
So those are people I donât have a problem with using substitute words but still want to talk about the serious subject matter.
What I DO have a problem with however is not properly using tags related to the subject matter.
For example, âtw rape,â âtw sa mention,â âtw sexual assault mentionâ are all straight forward, and are able to be stopped through Tumblr or A03 tag filters. What does NOT work is âtw r@p3.â In tags, say it with your whole chest, becuase it makes it hard for people with triggers related to rape and rape mentions. If you are uncomfortable with writing this content or looking at it, donât interact with it.
Using myself as another example, yesterday I talked about Dante who is a canon rape victim in DMC where his perpetrators were multiple women who pressured him into sex. Itâs not the first time Iâve ran into a fictional work with rape elements in it, so I was able to make the post and be straightforward with it. It didnât make it any less uncomfortable to read about and talk about, but Iâve had to read about abuse statistics, facts, and debunked myths about abuse, and took a mandatory sexual harassment and assault course in college, so I somewhat had the stomach to get through it all. I will say this again, if that makes you very uncomfortable, I have that post properly tagged as âtw sa mentionâ so you can filter it. Unless I missed a specific tag, someone let me know.
I saw someone falsely accuse people in the JJK fandom who write about Yuji in âx readerâ content as âpdf files,â and Iâm like, âif youâre going to slander people, say it with your whole chest instead of being a coward and using a disrespectful substitute.â Either you say it or you keep your comment to yourself.
TL:DR, People who are YouTubers or TikTok creators or they just do not want to take their chances with the state of Tumblr right now, they are not the issue. Besides, if Tumblr can flag a reblogged post I made about Homer Simpson being bundled up and Tumblr easily believing in false reports, then what is stopping Tumblr from shadow banning people who use the actual terms? There are people who do use substitute words with the intent to disrespect are the issue.
Plus, we can blame both YouTube and TikTok.
If you cant SAY the words rape, sexual assault, grooming, or sex, youre not mature enough to have an opinion on it.

do you think if succession war between aegon II and rhaenyra never happened, would it have happened between jacaerys and aegon III?
would daemon really allow jace to be king because his daughter would be queen?
Hi eve! I could easily go off on so many tangents about Daemon and Aegon III and Jace, but I think the question has a pretty simple answer: yes, a war is inevitable if Rhaenyra or Jace inherits, and if not between Jace and Aegon III, then between Jace any one of the seven remaining trueborn male claimants.
First, I think Daemon's role in Jace's possible succession issues is overstated. Could he arrange three very convenient accidental deaths for the oldest boys to make sure that Aegon III is set up to inherit whether Daemon himself is alive to see it or not? Sure. But he also did not do this to any of Alicent's children, instead he waited to see if Rhaenyra and Aegon would fight. My gut feeling is that by the time Daemon is in his 50s, he just does not care enough. Will he feed Aegon III the idea that he should be the heir, that he has more Valyrian blood, he's trueborn, etc.? Likely. But I think Daemon would leave it up to Aegon III to fight for it, rather than conveniently clearing his way. That said, the fact remains that Daemon could drop dead the day after Rhaenyra took the throne, and there would still be people who would find it advantageous to align themselves with one of the trueborn claimants to the throne. Jace's problems do not begin or end with Daemon.
Keep in mind, this is the argument Criston Cole used to convince Aegon II to fight. It's often conflated in the fandom with "Rhaenyra will kill your family to secure her reign," but interestingly, Criston says that all of the king's trueborn sons have a better claim than Rhaenyra's "brood of bastards," that is, he frames the real threat as occurring when a bastard attempts to inherit ahead of trueborn sons, and although it's not relevant to Criston's point so he doesn't mention it, of course Aegon III and Viserys II are included in this number. Now, unlike most of the fandom, Criston frames this threat as coming from the bastards towards the trueborn sons, rather than the trueborn sons towards the bastards, which is convenient for convincing Aegon, but also happens to be a good point. Daemon and/or Aegon III don't have to have Jacaerys killed, they simply have to corroborate the story that Jace is a bastard, and press Aegon III as a claimant. At that point, Jace can either admit to being a bastard and step aside, or go to war. And it doesn't have to be Aegon III. If there is no Dance, there are still seven trueborn sons and grandsons of Viserys who can raise a legitimate challenge to Jace's claim (and disclaimers apply about bastardy being a construct, no one can prove it etc. etc., but once Rhaenyra, Corlys, and Viserys are dead, it becomes much more difficult for Jace to defend himself against those claims). And this is in essence why it was absolutely insane of Viserys to overlook this issue, but that's a different tangent.
That's the problem with a lot of the arguments that Alicent "lied," or poisoned her kids against Rhaenyra and her kids, that Rhaenyra never would have hurt her brothers, Daemon never would turn against Jace, that Aegon III loves his brother, or what have you. Rhaenyra, Daemon, Jace, and Aegon III do not even have to be the ones who personally initiate violence against their rivals, Rhaenyra, whose claim is already non-traditional, has built her line of succession on shaky grounds. At any time during Rhaenyra's reign, or after she dies, or during Jace's reign, or his son's reign, if the lords of the realm are unhappy for whatever reason, they have a perfect pretext to decide that Rhaenyra wasn't the true heir and/or Jace was a bastard all along (take your pick) and the line was illegitimate, and challenge him.
And unfortunately for poor Jace, regardless of whatever loyalties Aegon III might hold for his brother, Aegon II has two trueborn sons who have zero reason to have any affection or regard for cousin Jace. If Aegon II doesn't want to be king, can we be sure his sons don't? And likewise, even if Aegon III is loyal to Jace, can we be certain his sons will love their uncle and cousins as much as he does? Jace is not stupid and a lot can happen in a decade or two! This is why, even though it's also true that Otto and Alicent probably would have tried to put Aegon II on the throne regardless, Criston's argument that anyone who stands in Jace's way will have to be eliminated (by Jace and whoever upholds him as the true heir) in order for his succession to be clear, is the one that convinces Aegon II. Because it's true, and if Jace does not eliminate the potential rivals, at some point someone will challenge that line, and the result will be as devastating as the Dance.
#asks#aegon iii targaryen#jacaerys velaryon#aegon ii targaryen#daemon targaryen#anti team black#team green#i hate tagging it like that because it's just a discussion#but i also don't really need people yelling at me about how rhaenyra or daemon or aegon iii would never

iâm genuinely shocked by this:
how can someone miss the point by such a large margin that they end up implying that Rhaenyraâs cause would have had no positive impact on the women of the realm?
how can oneâs thought process be so far removed from the actual reality? is this the inconsistent logic one must tangle in to become a green? have these people never sat in a history class before?
jeyne arryn anyone? does she not exist to them? a point actually made in the book (not one twisted by the greens to advance their agenda) was that her rulership of the vale wouldâve been seriously endangered and put into question if the greens won. but that is conveniently ignored by these interesting⊠folks.
i can understand the anger this person has with the horrible dance of the dragons adaptation and its treatment of female characters. and i mean it. especially when i say female characters. because alicent isnât the female character whoâs actually getting the shortest end of the stick. it was rhaenyra and rhaenys who were the most grievously declawed. rhaenyra is queen. her council is supposed to be her council. the war is supposed to be her war for her throne, not for some stupid prophecy that shouldâve logically been lost a long time ago. and rhaenys is a baratheon with a temper and a dragon rider who wouldâve burnt the greens and melted their bones if she had the chance. but for some reason the show decided to make a whole new character and slap rhaenys name on it.
to be clear: rhaenyra and rhaenys were powerful in their own right. they had dragons and were a part of the royal dynasty with claims to the throne. their power is theirs. it is derived from them.
alicentâs power is derived from the power of the men she is related to. thatâs literally what the queen dowager title means. her influence is dependent on if the men in her life and her children listen to her. they donât have to, and many characters donât listen to her in the book, which is why i say she wasnât the most grievously declawed.
itâs also hilarious that this person considers the queen dowager position to be the most powerful position in the greens court. they must have never read a cersei chapter as she faces her loss of power, which showcases the fickle nature of the power women hold in the westerosi patriarchy.
the correct sequence of power in the greens court is: the usurper king. then the hand. then the princes, specifically the usurper kings brothers, and then the queen consort, as they have dragons and claims to the throne. then the lords who can call on armies and fleets and have coffers that run deep. then the queen dowager, who has little influence outside of kings landing and therefore not as much influence in court as others.
the case the screenshotted post tries to make is that non-targ womenâs positions arenât advanced by rhaenyra being queen, which, as i pointed out above, is not true, nor is it what rhaenyra is fighting for. rhaenyra fought for her throne, which she had a legal claim to. thatâs all. many houses joined her instead of joining the usurpers because of many different reasons, but, imo, three of the most important reasons for joining the blacks/staying neutral were 1) womenâs inheritance rights (and women in general) should be respected 2) the head of the houses heir and the heirs right to inherit should be respected 3) oaths should be respected.
i also want to point out that women, most obviously targaryen women, did lose power after rhaenyraâs death and due to the concessions made to the greens and their ideology by the blacks for peace along with anti-rhaenyra propaganda that set womenâs inheritance rights and the general power they could hold back by quite a lot.
and funnily enough, we see this first with jaehaera, who, while was a queen, was most likely murdered by the character who was supposed to be guarding her because no one gave a shit about a targaryen girls status and the potential consequences of killing her because they knew they could get away with it; and her death directly led to alicentâs line ending. the reality is that there were practically no consequences, as it seemed to have been easily covered up as a suicide, because the targaryens lost so much power after the dance, which directly put the targaryen women in the line of fire. if the targaryen women couldnât be used theyâd be discarded. and jaehaera, a simple girl whoâs entire family was all dead besides one, and whoâs father was greatly disliked by many, was an eyesore to those who wished for more power. so she was killed. brutally.
and the reason the women of house targaryen were so vulnerable? itâs because they had no claim to anything anymore! no one could try to use jaehaera for power so no greedy lords sought her favor nor did any want to protect her! and jaehaera is just the start because afterwards we get the maidens in the vault, then viserys ii is installed over daena, and then everything about naerys and her horrid husband, maekar over daenora, and eventually everything concludes with young princess rhaenys and rhaella over a hundred years later. tragic.
itâs literally downhill after rhaenyraâs death.
#otto getting fired a second time because the usurper king didnât want to listen to alicent đ¶#why is green shit popping up on my for you page#anti greens#anti team green stans#anti team green#dance of the dragons#anti hotd#anti alicent stans#anti alicent hightower#rhaenyra targaryen#pro rhaenyra targaryen#jaehaera targaryen#rhaenys the queen who never was#jeyne arryn#cersei lannister#is there a tag just for discussions about the westerosi patriarchy?#pro team black#the blacks#iâm getting sucked back into hotd fandom drama đ#i really do hate that show#love the actors and actresses tho. i wish they had a better script#hotd fandom critical#power in court is literally: hey what do you control and what can i gain by using or allying with you?#characters only allied with alicent because she was so close to the throne and the targaryens#like i stated in my post: this kind of power is fickle.

bruh, they literally said they won't be switching up the couples to a question! They also said quote, "there's not gonna be time to explore our characters love life," if you wanna get technical.
"if you believe the duffers wrote an entire season without any changes or progression of any of the current relationships..." I do! But you can watch and get the answer!
Will could very well get a love interest (that's not Mike, probably). [I'm not hating on the possibility of 2 main characters getting together; I'm just going by the text and subtext of what's on screen because that's what it's looked like for FOUR seasons (I know some of the theories bylers have for subtext and I disagree...I'm allowed)]. I'm not fantasizing about queer people being disappointed, bffr. I'm simply expressing an opinion as you have done, because that sub-fandom has been a very vocal, and active "mean-girl" group (to those who disagree with them and are purely just existing, so often posting in tags deliberately to hate on the 'rival' ship (I don't ship m*leven but I came across this with a ST post). [And I keep tagging these posts "anti-byler" because I'm not trying to upset someone's enjoyment in fiction; if you have not blacklisted posts discussing anti-byler; that's on YOU and sillier to get upset over someone sharing their mind over something that does not matter in the grand scheme of things in our world].
If you really wanna get deep in my hatred of byler (and why I'd find joy in it's fans being letdown), let's address how Noah Schnapp, the actor IS a zionist (and if you disagree (idc tho), still said something nasty in reference to children and people dying and was not ignorant at 19, profiting off of something being "sexy" for civilians and their pain. If I'm really talking about the habits of bylers and how they operate every time this ship is trending, and what they have said initially re: Noah Schnapp, I could talk about how I find it odd that no one wants to bring it up, and separation of the actor and character does not seem to be a thing, much more marked by Noah's coming out and people's relatability to a gay CHARACTER and a gay actor outshining their connection to morals (and the fandom of that ship, largely overlooks the actions of that actor, doesn't hold him accountable, accepted a half-assed apology, and like I said, sees the real person as well as their inspiration, much less doesn't care about his remained standing on the show, because they stay concerned about a ship, and supports his real life activities/behind-the-scenes pictures, friendship with his cast members, etc... (all for the unjustifiable explanation of finding it cute).
I'm not acting like a mean girl over people who enjoy gay ships. I'm not straight, either! And I don't like byler! (Do you like all "gay" (uhh, Mike is ???) ships because they are gay?) me "doing something productive" while you wrote ALL this getting mad over the initial post of something I said. If you believe they will be together, this should not hurt you. You can watch the show and be happy when it comes out, if that's what you believe. Come back to this post is 2025 (:
This post got much longer than I intended to. But I might as well mirror your long-winded reply and once and for all respond to these repeated and new claims (i'm so not surprised to be a rebuttal). Happy supporting zionists!
I'm not a mean person, but istg I'm gonna laugh when I open up this app and see that byler isn't endgame and all the shippers lose their minds after 5+ years of the creators telling them it isn't gonna happen.

Wild how we know that Elizabeth Woodville was officially appointed to royal councils in her own right during her husbandâs reign and fortified the Tower of London in preparation of a siege while 8-months pregnant and had forces gathering at Westminster âin the queenâs nameâ in 1483 â only for NONE of these things to be even included, let alone explored, in the vast majority of scholarship and historical novels involving her.
#lol I don't remember writing this - I found it when I was searching for something else in my drafts. But it's 100% true so I had to post it.#elizabeth woodville#my post#Imo this is mainly because Elizabeth's negative historiography has always involved both vilification and diminishment in equal measure.#and because her brand of vilification (femme fatale; intriguer) suggests more indirect/âfeminineâ than legitimate/forceful types of power#It's still bizarre though-you'd think these would be some of the most famous & defining aspects of Elizabeth's life. But apparently not#I guess she only matters when it comes to marrying Edward and Promoting Her Family and scheming against Richard#There is very lacking interest in her beyond those things even in her traditionally negative depictions#And most of her âreassessmentsâ tend to do diminish her so badly she's rendered utterly irrelevant and almost pathetic by the end of it#Even when some of these things *are* mentioned they're never truly emphasized as they should be.#See: her formal appointment in royal councils. It was highly unconventional + entirely unprecedented for queens in the 14th & 15th century#You'd think this would be incredibly important and highlighted when analyzing late medieval queenship in England but apparently not#Historians are more willing to straight-up INVENT positions & roles for so many other late medieval queens/king's mothers that didn't exist#(not getting into this right now it's too long...)#But somehow acknowledging and discussing Elizabeth's ACTUAL formally appointed role is too much for them I guess#She's either subsumed into the general vilification of her family (never mind that they were known as 'the queen's kin' to actual#contemporaries; they were defined by HER not the other way around) or she's rendered utterly insignificant by historians. Often both.#But at the end of the day her individual role and identity often overlooked or downplayed in both scenarios#and ofc I've said this before but - there has literally never been a proper reassessment of Elizabeth's role in 1483-85 TILL DATE#despite the fact that it's such a sensational and well-known time period in medieval England#This isn't even a Wars of the Roses thing. Both Margaret of Anjou and Margaret Beaufort have had multiple different reassessments#of their roles and positions during their respective crises/upheavals by now;#There is simply a distinct lack of interest in reassessing Elizabeth in a similar way and I think this needs to be acknowledged.#Speaking of which - there's also a persistent habit of analyzing her through the context of Margaret of Anjou or Elizabeth of York#(either as a parallel or a foil) rather than as a historical figure in HER OWN RIGHT#that's also too long to get into I just wanted to point it out because I hate it and I think it's utterly senseless#I've so much to say about how all of this affects her portrayal in historical fiction as well but that's going into a whole other tangent#ofc there are other things but these in particular *really* frustrate me#just felt like ranting a bit in the tags because these are all things that I want to individually discuss someday with proper posts...

Detroit Become Human and why does this game decide that the problem in society is individual people treating androids poorly because those androids are choking them out of the workforce and NOT the corporations and governments who deliberately designed the androids to do this
#AUGHHGHH#I promise you dbh is still one of my favourite games I really do#But ohhhhhhhjghh my GODDDD it makes me mad#Like ESPECIALLY this year. With artists and writers being so fucked by ai#Like the game has less than no sympathy for people who were screwed over by cyberlife deciding their labour wasn't worth anything#Like everybody has to be a strawman. Everybody has to be the violent 'android bad because (some vague reason that draws on the#'immigrants are stealing our jobs' line despite the fact that these things aren't equivalent at all)#Like yes. Robots being placed in positions where a real human would be paid a real wage to do that job is bad. This is a bad thing#But the game. Does not CARE#It's so morally neutral for cyberlife to be allowed to mass produce androids in the middle of a poverty epidemic that they created#It's fine! Says Detroit Become Human because everyone rendered homeless or struggling by this company's actions is a violent drug addict#Or something#It's like HUH#H U H#This game was so enamoured with it's weird bad civil rights allegory that it forgot that people do actually need jobs to uh. Pay to live#Because things are hell#And I think it could've been SO much better if the game acknowledged this AS WELL as acknowledging that no android chose this#Like a fresh deviant didn't ask to cause a real person to not have a job. The company who made them did#But dbh doesn't care. Cyberlife is morally neutral in this. I swear#Loses my mind this game is such a mess#Uhhh if anyone's reading this please don't get mad at me I promise I do really love this game. Like this game is the reason I#Met the love of my life. I am physically incapable of hating this game#I just think it's so worth discussing the ways it fails in (what I think is) a constructive manner#detroit become human#game analysis#I guess#If anyone has any contributions or disagrees with me I would LOVE love to hear. did he or did he not lose fans then?
I will answer this because this anon actually brings a concrete question to the table rather than just "hurhur but you're a larrie??" (tell me you can't actually refute any of our pointsâŠ). Anyway this post shows the decrease in Louis instagram followers between the screenshots taken directly after the release of Faith in the Future in Nov '22, when he changed his bio to promote that album and the tour tickets, and now, when he changed it again to mention the current release. But I'm putting that response under a cut because I'm tired of the actual POINT of all this nonsense getting lost in a sea of made up things people insist are important:
There is no rational argument you can make to say that Louis has less fans now than he did 2, 4, or 6 years ago. You don't need a spreadsheet of details you need to USE YOUR EYES! He has gone from filling theaters to filling arenas and stadiums. His second album made a higher chart position than his first album. His festival has doubled in size EVERY year of its existence. And for that matter: his insta post engagement numbers remain about the same (despite the fact that older posts should have way MORE likes due to having been there longer, even aside from follower counts.) SO WHO FUCKING CARES ABOUT HIS INSTA FOLLOWER NUMBER???? Serious question: what does the word "fans" mean if these things aren't what matters? ALL of this quibbling about what he should do to make things better and people can't even see that THINGS AREN'T BAD.
Anyway to address the specific question- (con't......)
NO- HE DID NOT LOSE FANS. HE LOST SOME INSTA FOLLOWERS. THESE ARE NOT THE SAME THING. As I said above, literally what does it mean to lose fans if that number change coincides with him having higher sales, more audience members, and higher engagement than ever before? Whatever he lost ISN'T FANS. I wouldn't be surprised if a significant factor was something like a bot purge, but also yes: I'm sure a lot of casuals followed him around the time of his big album release and later unfollowed him. That's extremely normal because that's how casual engagement works, and why the definition of fan really matters. Louis and his team understand this and have referenced it repeatedly, talking about how lucky he is to have *us* specifically, to have the kind of dedicated fanbase he has, to have the KIND of fans he does who will allow him to do what HE wants. @dogsliampaynedoesntinstagram named the issue of depth vs breadth with regard to fans a long time ago, and pointed out why having DEPTH is so much more important. It's like this- artists who are on top 40 radio have more numbers on things like insta follows, and for a time on sales and tickets. But those aren't FANS- they're people with a casual interest. And as soon as that person isn't being forced in their ears 10x a day, those people lose interest and stop supporting them, stop buying stuff and unfollow, and those artists end up doing the 'opener on the jingle ball' circuit rather than their own tours. One Direction as a whole, and Louis maybe most of all or near to at this point, have something MUCH MORE VALUABLE than that- DEPTH FANS. Louis has fans who will support him even if he takes years to release music, or stops parading around with a pretend girlfriend to stay in the headlines at least once a month, or completely changes his image and genre, and that is UNHEARD OF. It's ASTONISHING and worth SO MUCH MORE. And they get that! THAT is why he always bragging about us, why industry people he works with are always so agog about us, why he will do anything for US- not for randos. He is also growing his breadth- and it's OBVIOUSLY WORKING whatever his follower counts are, but that is always going to be secondary to doing things for THE FANDOM because that is his sustainable business model. That is what keeps him onstage and reaching number one. And not coincidentally, the things they do are also working to grow that- much more valuable- commodity. So the fact that that's exactly what these chuckleheads complain about- that he does things that are just fandom facing or serving rather than everything being aimed at recruiting casual fans- does nothing but betray how completely they, unlike Louis and his team, misunderstand the actual drivers of his (actual, existing, happening) success. Luckily for Louis, he and his team rely on their own data harvesting (they do a LOT of it) and growth metrics (they're off the charts) rather than the smug assumptions of random (mostly quite new to this) fans and the few bitter people leading the complaining about everything Louis does.
#louis promo#all this nonsense about this tag or that tag or this or that number is so getting lost in the trees#when the forest is RIGHT HERE: WHAT THEY ARE DOING IS WORKING#so for now#I'm pretty done with this discussion unless someone actually engages meaningfully with the content of anything I'm saying#rather than just repeating the same things- but he needs to tag more! or the even more boring-#but you're a larry! if you send me a bitchy response that doesnt actually address any points I've made#I will assume it is because I'm right and you have no rebuttal other than to act like a preschooler because deep down you know it#honestly the discourse around this makes me feel a little sad and scared about the state of literacy and reading comprehension#and just general analytical thinking#but I hope its just that no one over 15 spends their time sending hate anons about fandom#if I'm wrong please come engage in actual conversation! but otherwise... let's just... not#blah blah blah#anyway there's a reason Louis is always so afraid no one will be there for him and that he started out solo era playing those radio fests..#because we are IMPROBABLE we are UNBELIEVABLE we are NOT SOMETHING YOU CAN EXPECT OR COUNT ON#and making nurturing and maintaining that his number one priority ALWAYS is extremely correct and smart#actually#I was originally going to be like here are when there were bot purges here are other artists that have seen numbers go down etc#but then I was like WAIT WHO CARES. You're letting these people dictate the conversation... but the premise is stupid#it DOESNT MATTER#depth v breadth

Look, this is us filling the Asclepius tag with ramblings :
Irl I'm super giddy right now !!
Honestly I was hoping this post would eventually reach someone else who wanted to ramble about Asclepius đ€Ł. Because oh boy ! These past few months I realized that he's actually very interesting but I couldn't find the opportunity to really start a discussion about him :3
Don't worry about the initial context, this post contains most of it. @kill-me-with-a-spoon and I began this in a comment section of this post :
I need a "read more" section because this is gonna be a long one.
First of all, calling Asclepius a crimebag is hilariously fitting. Not only did this man resurrect people and got punished for it, he casually does it again to a random woman. Not Coronis, not someone he knows, just a chick that the doctors decapitated to get some worm out and he was so exasperated by their stupid mistake that he just brought her back to life.
He's a criminal AND a recidivist. And Zeus just gave up at this point I think, because he was only punished once. He reminds me of Robin Hood in a way, an unrepentant criminal who helps people around him against an oppressive system.
Another figure he reminds me of is Prometheus. Seriously, I feel like Asclepius and Prometheus would be very good friends if they met, because they share a very similar philosophy of wanting to help mortals, being punished for it and still wanting to do it despite the risks, to push the limit and ultimately bring a wonderful gift to humanity, being heating and medicine. THAT and issues with Zeus đ. He punished both of them for kinda the same reason. Maybe his grandson reminded him of Prometheus.
Now I'll try coming back to your points because there's so many things to say. I'll try respecting the order to hopefully make it easier.
You mentioned his birth and honestly it's so fascinating. Because, from the get-go, Asclepius cheats death, he runs away from it, he was supposed to die but thanks to Apollo's dad radar, he got saved.
Ok I know those are his ordinary god powers, but to me Apollo 100% has a sixth sense specifically warning him when his kids are in danger. I mean, look at what he said in the picture you sent !! It's clearly his fatherly instinct that drove him to do that, to save his innocent offspring from Coronis' punishment. And yeah, if he hesitated any longer, he would've lost one of humanity's biggest helpers, but most importantly his own son. And I feel like he would've hated himself for it.
This kinda reminds me of Zeus saving baby Dionysus once Semele died, also burnt, but because of his real godly form. It's a powerful way to connect Zeus and Apollo too.
Tying this unusual birth to his future activities is definitely a clever approach. Asclepius seems to fear death, even more than the average Greek. But, contrary so Sisyphus, he doesn't selfishly try to cheat his own way out of the Underworld. Or to extend his youth. Quite the contrary. He uses it to help his fellow mortals, exposing himself directly.
I'll jump to the end of your post to talk about his altruism but I'll come back to previous points. Asclepius committed a very unique kind of hubris. It's not a "I'm better than the gods" thing but a "I'm more helpful than the gods". He saw that none of them, including his own father, went out of their way to undo death. So he did it. And again, he didn't just go and resurrect Coronis or Phlegyas or any family member. I feel like he was given missions, given how random the people on the list are. And he dutifully accepted them. Like a god being prayed to, even by an Olympian deity like Artemis ! And THAT pushed another limit.
The random woman myth is so important because it shows that Asclepius doesn't only resurrect kings and princes, but also regular people. He didn't seek glory or anything, he just did his best to achieve his goals of helping those around him.
You worded everything about the Apollonian family line and the egregious pursuit of curing death so well !!
Even if it wasn't explicitly said, it would still be so blatant that Asclepius was raised by his father, because they have similar tendencies. They have this same stubborn drive to act on their principles, even if it involves disobeying other gods.
There's also this negative relationship with death, wanting to preserve the life around them and grieving when they can't (except Asclepius didn't accept this last part and went on to undo it).
Plus some gremlin energy and the staff from uncle Hermes đ. Hermes was also said to help Apollo save him and since he collects human souls, he'd 100% be there in his birth to have Coronis AND in Asclepius' death.
Speaking of gods, yes he had godly support, through Athena and Artemis. Heck, even what you said about Zeus tolerating occasional resurrections fits because otherwise, Asclepius would be dead before even trying.
That whole thing about oppression and death is spot on. Coming back to Hippolytus, his demise was very unfair. A result of Aphrodite's spite in front of his indifference, Phaedra's maddening love and Theseus being Theseus. Asclepius seized the opportunity to restore his life and stolen youth. Hippolytus doesn't die again afterwards, at least not from some extraordinary reason. He probably passed from natural causes at a natural age.
But then comes the money thing. It's so interesting because it brings another nuance to his character. The desire and need for money is purely human, gods don't need it. He's only a mortal and this is a proof of it. Why was he "enthralled" by money ? He doesn't seem specially greedy. Maybe it's because he needed it to maintain equipment, buy more resources so he can do his job even better. Maybe it's because he isn't said to be paid anything for helping people, and even if he's a prince, he didn't live with Phlegyas (Coronis' dad) but in the fields with Chiron. So maybe he wanted better life conditions. Or maybe money to pass on. Idk, honestly.
There's so much more stuff to say but I'll let you with this. You're welcome (and encouraged) to answer any time you want. I'll probably post more about Asclepius in the future, so tell me if you want to be tagged.
Who did Asclepius resurrect ?
A couple days ago, I discussed the idea of mortals defeating gods with @kill-me-with-a-spoon on a comment section of my "thoughts on Epic" post.
We talked about Diomedes and Perseus briefly, but then a third example came in : Asclepius.
And I find this specific mention interesting because I didn't think about it but it kinda makes sense đ
He didn't defeat any god like the two former heroes, that being physically overwhelming them. Instead, he simply "cures" death, thus Thanatos' doing. Not only his, but the Fates' too considering they cut the thread of life. And he meddled with Hades' realm, something that he hated and we know how that ended.
(Hades hating doctors will never not be funny)
I made some research on him for personal projects and so I want to use it right now for personal ramblings about who exactly Asclepius resurrected.
@kill-me-with-a-spoon was pointing out that if, by technicality, he didn't interfere with Hades' domain if souls he resurrected didn't cross the Styx. And I've got to say, I think he did.
Also, I completely agree with the fact that they're still killable. They won't die from the same cause since Asclepius heals their injuries but he doesn't deify anyone.
If we look up different sources, here's the list of people he resurrected.
Hippolytus (according to Pausanias and latin sources like Pseudo-Hyginus or Ovid)
What makes this particularly interesting is that Artemis is the one who has this idea. It shows that portraying her as a man hater is completely wrong since she asks her male nephew to resurrect her male friend/devotee. It shows her bond with Hippolytus (his death was very unfair, so I get it) and with Apollo too, since she trusted her brother's son completely.
Then, it's just funny but in-character that Theseus isn't the one who has the idea to resurrect his son, because of course he wouldn't think about it đ. It's even funnier if we take late sources stating that Asclepius was among the Argonauts. Because Theseus was too, so they knew each other personally and yet Theseus couldn't think about it.
Another detail : Hippolytus seems to forgive Theseus in Euripides' play, but NOT after coming back to life in Pausanias' version. Different versions, I know, but if we mix the two, then we could interpret that maybe all this time in the Underworld gave him the opportunity to think about it, or maybe, with a new chance to live, he doesn't want to stay with his father.
I get you, Hippolytus. Go have fun.
Capaneus (according to Stesichorus)
What's interesting here is how Capaneus died : he participated in Polynice's siege against Thebes but was killed... by Zeus. He was struck by lightning because of hubris.
And then Asclepius comes and resurrects this guy. All the more reasons for Zeus to be angered. That means he came in and decided to undo divine punishment, the same one that will be his own doom in the future. It's pretty chilling for me.
Lycurgus
So, there are a lot of Lycurguses in mythology.
In the beginning, I thought it was Lycurgus of Thrace, which would've been hilarious because if this guy comes back to life, he'll come back traumatized and insane (also, any grapevine would be the source of PTSD flashbacks). And again, that would've mean undoing divine punishments.
BUT it seems to be a separate Lycurgus that was resurrected. Not the one who offended Dionysus.
It's also not Admetus' brother of the same name, though the logical link would've been easy to make (because of Apollo's servitude and Admetus also being an Argonaut according to some sources).
Honestly, Wikipedia is the only place where the Lycurgus that Asclepius resurrected is distinguished. Even then, the article speaks of a probable case and lists Apollodorus as a source. So not even researchers are completely sure of which Lycurgus it was.
Hymen/Hymenaios : yeah, according to the Orphics, he resurrected some guy named Hymen, even though the only figure with this name is a god... it would've been very interesting to analyze if I had more details about it. Unfortunately, there aren't really.
Tyndareus
Glaucus : It's funny how Asclepius resurrects both Theseus AND Minos' son. Though that exploit is more often attributed to the prophet and healer Polyidos. I wonder if there was some untold teacher-student relationship between the two, since Asclepius is one of the inventors of medicine (with Chiron)
And then there's this woman :
This cracks me up, because this little story alone states that Asclepius as a GOD still resurrects the dead even though he was punished for it. Tbf, he probably had to explain this to Zeus, that he had to compensate his partners' mistake. Still, that's hilarious that not even divine might stopped him.
Don't tell me he didn't know what he was doing. He's a smart guy and his father is literally mr. God of prophecy. I like his audacity.
So, coming back to the initial subject, with the sheer number of mentioned names, I do think they had the time to be buried and cross the Styx (except Capaneus, who was probably turned into ashes lol).
Asclepius definetly meddled with Hades' domain, thus angering the god of the dead and he 100% provoked Zeus.
But, not all the gods were agaisnt him. If we take the version where he resurrects people with gorgon blood, then Athena, who gave it to him, was in favor of his operations.
Then, there is Artemis who asked him to bring back Hippolytus and finally, quite obviously, his n°1 supporter is his own father Apollo (oh god, I could make a whole new post rambling just about Apollo and Asclepius).
So yeah, I really like this myth for many reasons and this is one of them : how it's tied to many other stories, how different figures behave and react to Asclepius' antics, how it puts the system of life and death into questions, etc...
Anyways, if you have anything to comment on about this myth, don't hesitate. I'd love to discuss it more !
My main source about all of this was Theoi.
#prev tags#Listen I see Asclepius posting and I go a little insane you must understand#I know I wasn't tagged or anything but I hope y'all don't mind me adding a couple thoughts#Cause I always have SOOO many thoughts about Asclepius and his criminal activities#regarding the snake thing with Polyidos Asclepius was a lot like his father in that snakes were both a messenger#and preferred form of his when he eventually became divine - the even used to keep non-venomous snakes about his temple grounds in Epidauro#Off the top of my head I can think of one instance where Apollo has a snake use herbs and implements to save a life#and that's when he was nursing Iamus while waiting for Evadne to return for the babe#Apollo sent a serpent to feed Iamus nectar collected from bees since he couldn't nurse the child himself#Anyway this was a really fun read y'all do continue to rant and rave it's very stimulating to my braincells#< prev tags#lol welcome to the club đ#don't worry i fully understand#in fact i was hoping someone else would come in#asclepius#apollo#greek mythology#greek myth discussion#phoebus apollon#prometheus#zeus#this whole thing about the snake is fascinating btw

me going into the rr crit tag lately: perhaps you would be happier writing your own books
#like dont get me wrong i am so rr critical id probably get barred from seeing/speaking to him at events if i lived in america#but omg some of these critiques are like. just not born out of love for the book. or good faith discussions#it's like a 70-30 ratio of what the posters personally want to criticism that is legitimate but has been discussed to death for 5+ years no#bonus points (/sarcastic) if they say somewhere that they haven't read the books in a bit#like bro just use the anti pjo tag bec the rr crit tag is for actual critiques not to shit on percy#also my modern greek myth stories hot take is that they actually don't have to be faithful ie replicate every piece of characterization#because the authors of the 'canon' mythos vastly diverged on these anyway#it's only disingenuous and annoying if the author or the fandom claims to be a 'faithful' retelling and accurate to the myths#likeee yall just hate the stories that dont give you the stuff you want#you could easily hate on epic the musical for entirely dispensing with the odyssey's themes of masculinity and guest rites etc#but people dont because odysseus being a wifeguy who's faithful to a fault is infinitely more palatable than homer's odysseus#that being said ... l/ore o/lympus is another discussion entirely lmfaoooo#fandom wank#welp sorry the tags got away from me#i just got annoyed at how this fandom's tags are unFUCKINGnavigable

"Do you know where we are going next?" I asked ART.
Y'know what, I think maybe I don't need any more Murderbot books. I think maybe ending things here is fucking perfect and as much as I love Wells's writing I'm genuinely not sure it can get better for me.
Like, so much of the books are about MB learning how to be a person, about becoming okay with being a complete individual with everything it entails. The first thing it does once it's actually allowed to decide on its own is it runs away from it all (admittedly to go on a mission to confirm some things about its past, because it genuinely just wants to be *good*). It shoves all its emotions away as much as it's able to. Then shit happens, and it makes its first friends, makes decisions based on these friendships, goes through a lot of emotionally intense situations...
And we get to this point here. MB having zero doubts about going with ART says a lot about its relationship with ART, but it also says a lot about its relationship with its humans - it knows that wherever it goes, when it comes back, the humans will still be there. Its humans actively acknowledge its struggles with being a now-free SecUnit and MB is willing to entertain the discussions to an extent and share information about its deeply personal experiences. Hell, System Collapse ends with MB admitting it might be somewhat broken, but that's okay as long as it can keep doing its job, and agreeing to basically do counselling - this is the guy what would rewatch its favourite TV show again and again in order to avoid acknowledging it even had Emotions a couple books back.
Reading this, I know that MB will be okay. It has hopes and goals and genuinely believes in itself and it has an amazing support system that its willing to lean on for the first time in its life. I'm convinced it'll go on to do great things with ART. And that's really the only thing I need to know.
#Murderbot#murderbot diaries#tmbd#system collapse#Herr's personal tag#Also like. System collapse dives deep into MB's feelings about its life as secunit prior to the events of all systems red#I find this conversation from when they were discussing what would happen if the BE folks got to the colonists first /very/ telling#MB going on about how life as a corporate slave is absolute fucking hell#ART drone saying that they can't just kill people because the alternative is worse than death#ART: would it have been kinder to kill you before you'd disabled your governor module?#MB with zero fucking hesitation: /yes/#(followed by my favourite ART line ever. âYou know I am not kind.â)#Like. MB would not have always admitted that it had hated its life as a secunit this openly#Saying it was shit is one thing saying I would rather be dead than think of me or anyone else going through this again is a very different#And here it has zero issues stating that. At least when talking to ART#And then later on it goes on to offer its actual memories for a publicly screened documentary#Because it knows it's the only way to make people see. The only way to save then from the same (ish) fate#And it's willing to do whatever it takes to save these people it's never even met before from what it views as fate worse than death#Including opening up and acknowledging its past experiences and past/current feelings#And I'm just like. Man I couldn't be more proud of you if I tried.#You go MB. Holy fuck I wish I could do what you've done. You might just be the person to defeat this evil capitalism my dude
