guess who cut potatoes for the first time today and only cut herself on the LAST POTATO!!!! 🥔🥔
#it was a very minor nick on my thumb!! not major at all!!!!!!!#i have avoided cutting two things this far in my life. apples and potatoes. so now i have conquered potatoes.#THEY'RE BOTH VERY FIRM OKAY!!!!! peppers and onions and stuff are easy to cut. much less substance.#i am making a chicken potato cream soup tomorrow in the slow cooker!!! so potatoes had to be cut today.

Right that's it. Dropping everything else this week to spend some time learning how to cook things I can actually stomach.
#had to ditch art group today bc i couldn't sleep so i was already a wreck#and then to top it all off it's been a Bad Food Day so i couldn't eat before it was time to go and i didn't wanna go and then like pass out#anyway recently a lot of my safe foods have been feeling less safe#bc apparently i'm craving flavours#but not too many flavours??? idk man#maybe the t is changing my taste buds#but i can't slog through a plate full of like plain carbs n veg with just salt anymore#so i have to start cooking things#i know i like stuff seasoned with lemon and i know i like chicken tikka seasoning so i guess i'll start there#the trick is gonna be finding ways to cook/season things that gives them the flavour boost i need but doesn't make em all squishy and gooey#frying and grilling and roasting will be involved i imagine#this is why i can't go vegetarian#the food i can eat is already so goddamn restricted#if you cut chicken out of my diet i'd be surviving on potatoes and fruit and you could knock me over with a stiff breeze lmao#anyway. i dislike cooking it takes so much time i'd rather be doing other stuff with.#but i can't rely on dad to help me with this and i need to do somethng soon or we're gonna be in trouble#so if anyone has any super quick easy cooking/seasoning tips (pref. ones that don't involve onions) hmu 💛#mr. bees speaks

boss said i did well at work today again. since it was the eighth straight day of working after weeks of working three days at most and i spent it 99% of it on the line where i Did Not Want To Be, this compliment was a little hard to internalize

I cooked dinner from scratch for the first time in forever
#noopa rambles#food#now I'm just sitting here going 'huh - why was this so hard before'#I made a chicken sauce and some rice#shoved some pineapples in the sauce too bc that sparks joy#haven't cooked rice in Forever(tm)#like. I don't think I've actually cooked rice once in this apartment. I've lived here for over a year#I used to live on rice and then my brain went 'nope' abt rice and couldn't stand the thought of making it#like. I've just mostly been eating premade meals#and the most 'cooking' I've done has been tortillas and tacos which involve making a salad and building the things#it's not like cooking-cooking#no wait I did boil some new potatoes a few weeks ago?#I used to be so proud of the fact that I made dinner from scratch almost every day when I was at uni#if I had a super long day in the city centre then I didn't cook but I cooked so often#then some nurse commented how that one meal 'isn't enough' during a doctor's appointment#which she meant probably as a 'you need to eat more'#but which my brain interpreted as 'it's pointless'#my eating habits sure started to go downhill after that#I'm still very much at the bottom but perhaps not all hope is lost#food sure is something#I should grab a strawberry danish for a dessert

#just pav things#Inigo’s favourite food has and will always be paella 🥘#that or a good creamy risotto. rice in it’s most flavourful and nutritious forms is his comfort food ��#And it makes sense because rice is filling! It helps tide over the heightened anxiety that comes with not eating for long stretches of time#And he also has an affinity for seafood considering he was born in Seraphin. The fondness for it is in his blood.#Especially prawns~ (good thing Amonea has many of them!)#Dism’s tastes in food lies more in the rich saucy/soupy realm of dishes#like coq au vin because I can tell he would like chicken the best#though if he’s anything like me than rajsko omačka should be his favourite 😋#he loves soup and stew :) (remember he had all the time in the world once to slow cook and develop the flavours of these to heaven ✨)#Cynthia’s palate can only be described as unrefined but she loves pizza (don’t they all? don’t we all?)#Matching her high sugar intake anything with a high amount of lipids (fats) is also in her tastes#like cheese and fried things and fried cheese (have u ever tried a cheese schnitzel? THEY’RE SO UNHEALTHY BUT THEY’RE GREAT)#Archie likes his food spicy >:3 He has a much higher spice tolerance than his brother#It’s a direct influence of the spiriters btw. They’ve dulled his sense of taste alongside his vision#And so Archie enjoys spicy things because he can feel something actually ✨#He also likes his starches in the form of noodles 🍝 (Dism is privy to potatoes— especially mashed potatoes— instead)#Archie will eat literally anything though let’s be real. He’s gone through too much food insecurity to be picky#He’d still cry (positive) if you gave him a beautiful cut of red meat though#Very much an enjoyer of bourguignon :> or steak. he’s more carnivorous than one might assume looking at his physique#And unlike the flavour enthusiasts that are the boys Idyllia much prefers things that are subtle and reserved#lending herself more towards pudding and yoghurt and crème brulee#or waffles with maple syrup! Croissants! Flaky little pastries! Things that are easily digestible bc of her medical treatment#And Archie’s kids? Luna likes foods with soft textures. Theon has no preferences because of his upbringing and finds ordering food hard#Ewan is notoriously picky but he likes homestyle creamy cooking with game meat. I like the implied cannibalism that arises from this.#Rabbits ofc are game meat and honestly if the people of Phyme were eating each other that would only add to the cult vibes ✨✨✨✨

Always freaking terrified of going places with people and not being able to eat anything on the menu and them thinking I think it's all disgusting or that I don't like food from other cultures or think it's disgusting or something
#went to a japanese restaurant with my friend before hamilton which i was keen for#hoping theyd maybe have some chicken katsu... mm.. but. it was all seafood#the only fish i really like are perch and hoki#made the mistake of thinking i could eat pesto at this italian restaurant#nope#the sauce was so. so creamy#i dont... really like sauce.... when i have spaghetti bolognese i only get enoigh so that it soreads the flavour...#friends thought me having just chicken and rice was odd but i enjoyed it#forever lamenting that satay chicken from a chinese place near my friend's.... it tasted good and it had PINEAPPLE in it????#i love pineapple#but holy crap it was so spicy#anyway#i promise my reluctance to eat things i dont know isnt from looking down on them#its just fear of trying something new because i can have INTENSE reactions to textures#i remember my parents giving me a bowl of a mysterious substance. i thought it was mashed potato and they said yes#took a bite and wanted to throw up#it was scrambled eggs#idk if this is a stupid worry or not. i just. hate coming off as rude. im so sorry im like this with food

very pleased with today's food choices
#been eating kind of shit the last week#which was making it hard to think clearly#brain fog.. made me think about what ppl in gaza are facing not having enough to eat daily for several months#when i cook eggplant or okra it makes me think of palestine somehow... actually most things i cook remind me of it#bc the prepation method is similiar#but yeah i had a chicken stew type thing#with okra eddo potato and tomato#i made two batches of different flavors & used a bunch of whole spices like coriander and cumin seeds black pepper bay leaves cinnamon stic#cloves etc.. and a bunch of whole green chillies#to add flavor.. but it wasn't spicy so i also added red chili powder#which made it perfect.. right amount of salt spice fat and vegetables#10/10 and i bought a big bowl today which made eating easy peasy#anyways i got sad for a bit too thinking about how easy food is to access for me bc i can get 5 leg+thigh for 6 bucks#and there was a post once about how this woman was pregnant and her husband had to pay like i think 20 bucks for a handful of meat#🧃#but bro i bought sumac and then completely forgot about it and was racking my brain to think what my second flavor palette should be#i used soy sauce/oyster/fish/black vinegar along with the whole spices and also some lemonade for citrus.. bc i didnt have lemons#and pouring juice is easier than squeezing oranges#it was surprisingly good like a nice flavor it came together well#i am gonna use the sumac next bc i want to make some version of musakhan

#sorry guys already had a bottle with my brother + his partner#currently we are improvising trying to make oat flour by grinding with a knife#so we can then make gravy#because we have no normal flour :-/#we finished the santa clause while cooking it was really nice !!#this is my first ever christmas away from home and family and it’s strange but also v nice#and peaceful#it’s weird that it’s not hot tho i won’t lie#usually christmas is humid#laura says some things#oh my god guys the oat flour crushed with a knife just might work#we r making chicken with prosciutto and roast potatoes but special mum recipe!!! that makes them soo crunchy!!#and then i made dauphinois potatoes last night so we’re having that too + mushrooms n snow peas#and also deconstructed cheesecake for dessert!!! it’s a day!!#talks of watching little women tonight and also a dance party hehe

#Okay so today I made a roasted chicken with potatoes and peppers#I cleaned up around the house did a load of laundry#talked to my best friend for an extended timeframe today#took beba to see all his grandparents#came home to a happy husband who is excited about his change in career plans#we had dinner and now just waiting for bed time for my little guy#honestly? I’ve been a bit blue lately but right now things feel content#I feel like I can honestly say I’m okay and that things are going to be okay.#I haven’t felt like that in a while and I’m really relieved#anyways friends who are reading this#if it feels like things are either stagnant or just numb because you’re going through the motions#I promise it won’t always feel like that#and I hope you feel a bit of relief when it gets a bit better

it's that time of the night where I want to have a nice fancy burger. maybe it's just like. oogh need carbs need meat need the happy chemicals from food that doesn't make me want to off myself or that it's been like ten hours since I last ate
#I feel like there's about five different things preventing me from truly feeling good about eating#one of them's health related one's mental illness related the main one as I often bemoan#I live with a grandmother who thinks that hashbrowns/chicken soup/peas/cornflakes as a casserole sounds good#and will get incredibly rude and nasty if you dare not want her cooking#that is either Bad to mediocre served at the wrong time (think six o'clock when we don't get home til eight) or when neither of us#are hungry due to medication side effects or just because the food is Evil#I know I can talk my cooking is fairly bad and possibly dangerous#but. the horror that is her sweet and sour sauce recipes. her curry. her casseroles.#the meal that was grey unidentifiable mince served with microwaved potato and gravy that genuinely looked#like the hospital food we still make fun of four years later because it looked like actual slimy shits.#and then we discovered that I dodged a massive bullet by immediately spitting it out since it was a week expired when it was cooked#and the freezer had done it no favours. yeah the 'mysterious' stomach upset that I avoided was Food Poisoning.#yeah like when we can't even guarantee ingredients won't be used in those sorts of horrors (and genuinely they are horrors)#it's fairly difficult to ensure that you're gonna eat. not only well in the technical sense but things you like and enjoy

Dear Tumblr today I am in utter misery (I'm actually fine), every act of creation has been an utter failure (that's a lie. My cooking has just been meh), and I think the only reasonable explanation is that I've been cursed by a wizard (no it isn't.)
#the duck quacks#WHY IS MY XOOLING SO BAD THIS WEEEK!!!!#Monday was fine. aaaalmost fucked up my omelet but we good#Tuesday didnt cook#Wednesday made scrambled eggs on accident because i was TRYING to flip my omelet but it did that thing where it flops on itself#and i got so angry i beat it to hell with a spatula and ended up eating the scrambled eggs bc else it would be a waste#i jate scrambled eggs.#AND TODAY#I BAKED MY FAVORITE COOKIES#AND THEY TURNED OUT BAD AND IDK WHY#THETE SUPPOSED TO BE PEANUT BUTTER COOKIES AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE THE DOUGH WAS FINE IT LOOKS FINE#BUT IT DOESNT TASTE LIKE FUCKING PEANUT BUTTER ITS JUST GROSS I HAD MY FAM TASTE IT AND EVERYONE WENT#“yeah what happend wtf”#AND THEN I FUCKED UP AIRFRYING#AIRFRYING!#CHICKEN NUGGETS!#i mean they were no that bad but i cooked them with potato fry thingies#which ended up too brown for my liking#but the chicken nuggets werent cooked evenly on each side so one had this weird ish texture which i hate sm#I AM SUFFERING#(im fine just felt like complaining bc *cmon*)
