my diehard ships: in descending order of how canon they are
Laszlo & Nadja: (idk their ship name lol) married and endlessly horny and in love with each other, pls don’t ever change this relationship
Vauseman: Dated in the past and their whole love affair is a huge part of the show. They part ways in the end but Piper bucks up and moves to Ohio just to be with Alex so still canon and hopefully real married when Alex gets out
Janason: Had an on and off relationship due to Jason being rebooted hundreds of times but Janet always retained feelings for him. They eventually find each other again through the course of the series and finally get to spend endless bearimies together til Jason walked through the door 😭 Still in love til the end but it’s so sweet and sad
Harlivy: Literally is canon in the comics, was heavily implied since the 90s, also implied in other assorted animated medias, kinda only noticed as “canon” recently cause of the HQS (which I love) but it’s unfortunate people wouldn’t believe me till that episode and season came out. In media where they’re not together though they were either exes or I choose to believe they have a past together :)
BBRae: Depends on the universe whether they’re together or not but for the most part they’re dating or have mutal crushes on each other. If not, I choose to ship in any universe lol
Zadison: Had a canon threesome but should’ve been properly developed more as a relationship but Ryan Murphy hates sapphics >:((
Jori: Bade was the main ship throughout the run but if they were ever to reboot it, Jori would have to be canon now. Cause as we all rewatch it, we understand it was Jori all along.
Gelphie: Similar to Jori in we all thought it was the straight ship but you rewatch it and think, wait a minute..these bitches gay. Ofc you’re wrong but in my HEAD they ran off together
Hizzie: For a hot second, I legit thought these two were gonna be canon. I know it’s Hosie forever but like after Kaylee left, the development between these two took a weird turn and Lizzie kept rejecting MG and going to Hope. Plus their already established frenemy relationship and past episode developments focused on their friendship like..why didn’t this happen?
Amedot: I thought this was gonna happen back in 2016/17 because of weird subtext we got but that was probably just wishful thinking. My thoughts on it were “I know nothing is going to happen but I think there’s a less than 1% chance for something, or at least for subtext”. But then Lapidot took over the fandom so I was wrong lol. Ofc neither ship actually became canon and Peri was revealed to be an intended aro/ace, which slowed down some shipping but not all of it ofc. Side note: the artist who “confirmed” ace/aro peri also ships amedot sooo.. I guess you’re good in that aspect? Anyways, now I do still ship it but mostly nostalgically and I think prime 2016 amedot was the best.
Cassunzel: I like this purely hypothetically but I do think they had a canon crush on each other in the show which is gone by the ending but it’s only real in my heart ❤️
Reiusa: Literally never gonna happen but I like the what if of them together in the future and co-parenting Chibiusa while still giving jabs at each other and the whole Rei cares about Usagi more than she lets on. I’m wrong but it’s nice to dream
#this was fun#no one cares cause these are all obscure#but I had thoughts so judge if you want#cassunzel#hizzie#reiusa#nadja and laszlo#amedot#gelphie#jori#bbrae#janason#zadison#harlivy#vauseman#my ships#otp

Cops and Robbers. A Bbrae AU
As much as Rachel enjoyed her job, she couldn’t help, but feel exhausted coming home at the end of a long day. Maybe it was the fact that she was on her feet all day, thank goodness for whoever invented flats. Still it was stable and fine work, a solid nine to five, giving her enough time to get home to work on her novel. The monotony of her daily routine was broken up when on her way home she noted a healthy handful of police cars driving around her neighborhood.
“Huh? I wonder if Dick could let me know what’s going on?” She of course was referring to her cop neighbor, Dick Grayson, but driving by his house, all the lights were shut off. “Maybe he and Kory are out.” She shrugged it off and parked her car before entering her home.
She moved through the doors of her modest three bedroom home as she usually did. Keys and mail on the table by her door, purse and jacket on a hook, turned on the TV for a bit of background noise and a nice cold beer in the fridge calling her name. She figured she’d make herself dinner, take a hot bath, and settle in for a night of writing.
With the news in the background she went about her nightly routine.
“—citizens of Jump city should be advised that the suspect could be armed and dangerous. For those who are just joining, please be on the lookout for Garfield Mark Logan, who escaped police custody earlier this evening—“
She took a beer from the fridge and removed the cap. “If his parents named him ‘Garfield’ they belong in prison too.” She commented dryly.
“—Garfield is wanted for the murder—“
She had gone to the counter when something had occurred to her. Going back she opened the door to the fridge and noticed something.
She was a creature of habit and structure, bordering on obsessive compulsiveness, but it made sense to keep her world in order at least. She had so much practice in fact that she noticed things out of place, even if it was just a fleeting glance. In this case there was something wrong with her beer. Was she missing one? She went shopping the other day, and only allowed herself and one a day or less, so surely she couldn’t have had more than one.
She counted a few more times, but came to the conclusion that she was, somehow, short one beer.
She took a step back when she felt something crunch beneath her heel. Lifting her foot she saw a pebble and some dirt, something she hadn’t noticed before. Didn’t she just clean the other day? Looking around she noticed more and more dirt leading from her kitchen and to the back door.
A back door that wasn’t locked.
If there was one thing she was absolutely sure about, it was that she ALWAYS locked her doors.
Her blue eyes flitted to the TV, noting the news report about an escaped convict, but surely he wouldn’t have run into a suburban neighborhood. That kind of stuff only happened in movies. Right?
She broke into a run, heading for her front door, but her hand had barely touched the knob when she felt someone wrap their arm around her waist and a hand clap over her mouth. Reacting purely on instinct, she stumped on their foot, eliciting a manly grunt of pain, and elbowed them in the ribs causing them to release her.
Momentarily free, she ran for the back door, telling herself she just had to get next door to Dick and Korys house. Nobody may have been home, but she would have felt safer in a cops home.
She weaved through the kitchen, aware that he was right behind her, but she kept her eyes on the door. She put her hands around the knob, but felt a pair of hands grab her arms and pull her back. She stumbled over something, him possibly, and fell backwards, hitting her head on the counter and collapsing onto the floor unconscious.
—:0:—
Her head was pounding as she slowly came back to consciousness, but when she tried to move her hands, they were stuck, in fact she couldn’t move any part of her body. Regardless of how much pain she was in, her eyes snapped open, finding that she was tied to a chair. Her hands had been pulled behind the chair, rope wrapping around her wrists and to the bars of the chair. Her ankles had been tied to the bottom rung of the chair and rope had been thrown over her lap, waist, and shoulders to keep her tied firmly to the chair back. Moving her head she felt one of her scarves had been stuffed in between her teeth and tied behind her head.
Saying she was in trouble was an understatement.
She wanted to panic, but she forced her rational, obsessive mind to take control. She took a few breaths through her nose to assess her situation. Looking around she was in her bedroom, the curtains drawn and the door closed. She had been tied to one of her kitchen chairs with rope that she kept in her garage that she used when she went camping to enjoy nature and solitude.
Her panic returned.
She had been unconscious, did he…?
She looked at herself, and aside from the rope she was still in the clothes she was in when she got home, white button up shirt and black skirt with flats, and nothing had been removed. Aside from the pain in her head, and the discomfort of the rope, she didn’t feel pain anywhere else.
Her rational mind returned.
So he knocked me out? Tied me up, but didn’t take advantage of me? He’s probably looting my home. But all of her valuables were in her room, were she was alone.
Still, a strange man was in her home, she was tied up and helpless. This wasn’t good.
Red and blue lights flashed outside her window, and a spark of hope lit inside her. Using her whole body, she began pushing the chair towards the window. If she could somehow get the curtain open, maybe someone could see her and possibly rescue her.
It was worth a shot, but not to be.
The door to her room opened and her chair was quickly grabbed and pulled away from the window. She grunted and growled behind her gag, struggling against the tight ropes. Whatever he was going to do, she was going to make it as hard for him as possible.
But she wasn’t expecting this.
“Sorry, sorry, sorry! Please calm down! please!”
She paused. Sorry? Please? She focused on the man, seeing that it wasn’t quite a “man” at all. He was young, twenties maybe, with disheveled blonde hair and a dirty complexion and clothing. His eyes were a piercing green that were pleading, fearful, and remorseful. Her brows narrowed, angry, but curious. What kind of home intruder was this?
He sighed in relief when she settled down. “Thank you.” He stood up and started pacing, his hands running through his blonde locks. “I am so, so, so, so, sorry about this. I didn’t mean for this to happen. Any of this. It's just—ugh!” She involuntarily flinched at his outburst. “Oh! Sorry, sorry, sorry I didn’t mean…” He continued babbling incoherently, that was beginning to grate on her nerves, but looking past him, saw that he had brought in a water bottle. For her maybe?
“Uughmph!” She grunted to get his attention, then motioned her head towards the water bottle.
“Oh! Yeah!” He grabbed it and brought it towards her. “Sorry, I’m just,” he paused, “wait, you're not gonna scream are you?”
She watched him closely, he broke into her home, attacked her, tied her up, and was now helpless and at his mercy.
Yet she wasn’t afraid.
Slowly, she shook her head no. He eyed her for a moment, but slowly came up to slip the gag from her mouth.
She moved her jaw around, sighing with relief, but didn’t scream. “Thank you.” She could see weight being lifted from his shoulders and a small, attractive smile on his lips. “Um, water?”
“Oh yes!” He brought it to her lips and allowed her a small drink. Her eyes closed at the liquid cooling her insides, helping to soothe and calm her down. She finished and he took the bottle away.
“Thank you.” She flexed against the rope. “Now can you untie me?”
The weight returned, and his smile faded into a worried stare. “Um… not yet, but if you don’t scream I’ll keep the gag out.”
Their eyes met, and still she couldn’t find any malice or maliciousness. She didn’t feel threatened, rather this felt like a necessity for him, self preservation, like a cornered animal.
Still she had to keep her guard up.
“Fair enough.”
He sighed again, becoming more relaxed, and he sat on top of her bed, a heavy silence settling between them. “So, um, you’re probably wondering what’s going on?”
She rolled her eyes. “I’m mildly curious.”
He laughed nervously. “Right. Well, um, I’m Gar, and I’m…”
“—on the run from the police?” He looked surprised, “you’re on the news. Everyone is looking for you.”
His eyes dipped with what looked like hurt. “Oh.” Her head tilted in curiosity as he leaned forward to put his head in his hands. “I’m so sorry…”
Now getting annoyed, “You’ve said that already.” She struggled against the ropes again. “Do you mind telling me what you're doing here?”
He lifted his head, wiping away a few tears. “Sor—erm, yes. Well,” he stood up, “I should start from the beginning I guess. So I was dating this girl, Terra, and I was crazy about her, but what she didn’t tell me was that another guy was obsessed with her. Some guy named Slade, I don’t know, but anyways he was stalking her, calling her, following her, all kinds of stuff.”
He slowed down, his voice tightening up. “I, uh, was at work, and when I got home…” his hands came up to his mouth, “she was…”
She couldn’t help but feel pity for him. “I’m sorry.”
He nodded, wiping his tears again. “Thanks. Anyways I called the cops and when they showed up, they arrested ME?”
Her head lifted. “What? Why?”
He shrugged. “I have no idea. They just showed up and slapped the cuffs on me! Do you have any idea what that’s like?”
She waited a beat, wondering if he was serious or just stupid. “No. I have no idea what it’s like for someone to come uninvited to my home and restrain me against my will.”
He chuckled nervously. “Heh. Sorry—I mean. Um… anyways…”
There was silence for a moment or two. “Why did you escape? Why not just go to the station and plead your case?” She asked.
“I did! I mean, I wanted to…but I don’t know.” His hands ran through his hair again. “The cop car they took me in was T-boned, and the next thing I knew I was running for my life.”
She quirked a brow as she came to the conclusion on her own. “You mean you broke into my home by chance?”
He nodded. “It was the only home I saw with the lights off at the time, I picked the lock, and snuck inside. I grabbed a beer and was gonna leave when the heat died down, but then, I heard your neighbors leave so I hid.”
“Then I got home, and the rest is history.” She finished.
“Yeah. I hid as best I could, but when I saw you see the dirt on the ground, I knew I was done.” He motioned to the ropes. “I didn’t mean to do that to you, but I didn’t know what else to do. I just panicked.”
She relaxed a bit. “I see.”
Silence again, this time a bit more uncomfortable. “So, um, what’s your name?”
He shrunk beneath her glare. “You broke into my home, knocked me out, drank my beer, and tied me up. We are not going to have small talk.”
He gulped with another nervous smile. “Cool.”
He clapped his hands on his knees. “So what now?” She asked.
He shrugged. “I’m not sure.”
She pulled against the rope again. “Well if you're open to suggestions.”
“I know, I know, I can untie you and I will, I promise. I just need to think.”
She rolled her eyes. “Well take your time, it’s not like my hands need steady blood flow or anything.” She softened her tone. “But seriously. You need to turn yourself in, if you’re innocent then an investigation will show that.”
He nodded. “I know, I know. I guess I’m just not a fan of being caged or anything.” He stood up. “Just, give me a minute.” He left her alone, giving her a chance to test the ropes again, but they were unyielding. She couldn’t help but feel impressed by his knot work.
After a few minutes of struggling she sat back and relaxed, unable to free herself she had nothing left to do but wait for him to let her go. Hopefully soon since she had lost the feeling in her hands a while ago.
Finally after what felt like ages he returned. “Okay, here’s the plan.” He untied the scarf from her neck. “I’m going to turn myself in, but there’s some things I need to do first, but here’s the bad part. I’m gonna to leave you here.”
She was actually relieved to hear this. He wasn’t dangerous, sure, but that didn’t mean she wanted to be a hostage. “But I’m not gonna untie you either. I’m gonna make a 911 call and tell them about a pretty dark haired woman tied up and get the cops to come and untie you. Sound good?”
Her face was placid as she responded, but ultimately relieved. “Do I have a choice?”
He chuckled. “I guess not. Again, I’m sorry about all this.”
He brought the scarf to her mouth to regag her. “Rachel.”
“Huh?”
“My name. It’s Rachel.”
He smiled. A wide smile that made her stomach flutter. “Rachel. Nice to meet you.”
—:0:—
The door burst open. “Police! Show me your hands!” Rachel flinched at the light shining in her eyes. “Is there anyone else in the house?” She shook her head as the officer came closer once the light was out of her eyes, she saw her neighbor, Dick Grayson remove the gag from her mouth.
“Took you long enough,” she droned, “did you stop for drive through?”
He let out a relieved chuckle, “Don’t you mean, ‘thank you for saving me’?”
“You’re right Dick, how about I give you a big hug… Oh wait.”
He moved behind her and began to undo the ropes. “Did you see who did this to you?”
“Nope.” She stated matter of factly. “They knocked me out and I woke up like this.”

There are a few things that Beast Boy knows for certain:
He’s 21….and a total lightweight. He’s a vegan (but not like…a pretentious vegan). He’s not going to be single forever.
And the Teen Titans are the only family he’ll ever need.
a/n: Hello everyone! I am finally back--though in a way I guess I never really left. I've been working on this fic on an off since I last posted, but things have been so busy that it's been rather slow going. I'm going to try REALLY hard to keep to a more consistent schedule going forward. The fic is entirely written, but needs some pretty heavy editing. I'm going to shoot for an upload every other Friday from here on out. Thank you all so much for being patient!
Chapter 5: A Helping Hand (words 6,264)
It wasn’t often that Beast Boy played hooky. At least, not when he thought there was a good chance Robin would catch him. Skipping practice was a serious no-go, outside of a few exceptions. Beast Boy knew he wasn’t a good enough actor to feign sickness. The ‘family emergency’ excuse existed strictly as a formality for obvious reasons. Reasons that were starting to seem less obvious now.
The letter in his drawer was already old news--at least to him. Beast Boy knew the contents of the note by heart. The memorization wasn’t intentional, but the words swam around in his head constantly nonetheless. A symptom of a much larger disease, as Raven might have put it. So he’d moved on to obsessively deconstructing and reconstructing the many packages that still littered their living room. Not that doing so had given him any more insight into who Nicholas Galtry was. Or why he had had possession of all of his parents’ things. Or why they were here now. Among the many disjointed thoughts that rattled in his brain, one consistently nudged its way to the top of the pool. That one was also tucked neatly away in a drawer in his room. Though he hadn’t dared to look at the picture since first putting it there.
Beast Boy glanced behind him at the clock in the kitchen. He’d been here an hour already--someone was probably already out looking for him, Robin’s orders. He quickly shut the box he was currently sorting through. It had been the same as all the boxes before it--filled with priceless, nameless items from another place and another time. He felt like a thief, searching his own belongings, not knowing what exactly he hoped to find among them. Each time carefully packing the boxes back as he’d found them. Like a thief, hoping to cover his tracks.
“There you are.”
Beast Boy flinched, instantly shrinking back from the box in front of him. He turned around to face Cyborg looming over him.
“Man, I’ve been lookin’ for you everywhere ,” Cyborg said, a twinge of frustration in his voice. “What the hell are you doin’ up here?”
“Nothing,” Beast Boy said, anxiously getting to his feet. “Just...hanging out.”
Cyborg frowned. “Well maybe you should come ‘hang out’ at training.”
“Training?” Beast Boy repeated automatically.
“Yeah, you know...the thing we have scheduled every single afternoon? At the exact same time? Every day?” Cyborg said, cocking an eyebrow at him. Now he seemed more confused than frustrated—a switch that was very typically Cyborg.
“Right. Training. I was wondering where everyone else was,” Beast Boy answered. It was a poor excuse, but it wasn’t actually a lie.
Cyborg sighed, but there was a hint of a joking smile on his face when he spoke next. “Let’s just get down there before Robin kicks both our asses, okay?”
Beast Boy nodded, and for a moment it was as if the boxes behind him ceased to exist. It currently felt like there were two worlds jammed under one roof, and now that he’d been pulled out of the one behind him, he saw just how much he preferred the one in front of him. Even if it meant getting his ass kicked.
The training field had come a long way from the public school playground it resembled when they’d first settled into the Tower. It was Robin’s ongoing project--adding another ropes course, integrating fully automated sparring dummies...there were even obstacles designed with each of their abilities in mind. Beast Boy was sure that Robin had a Pinterest board dedicated to the fiasco for all of the crazy things he was constantly adding to it.
Which is why Beast Boy was confused to find that none of it was being used.
“Oh no. Don’t tell me--”
“Yep,” Cyborg said, walking the opposite direction of Robin’s martial arts art display.
“Dude, I suck at hand to hand.”
“Probably why Robin thinks you ditched,” Cyborg shrugged.
In the distance, their three remaining teammates were gathered in a clearing at the opposite end of the field. Starfire stood leaning against a tree on the sidelines, water bottle in hand. In the center of a well-worn patch of grass, Robin and Raven circled each other in what seemed to be a never-ending dance.
“So when you said Robin was gonna kick my ass...you meant that literally, didn’t you?” Beast Boy said with a frown.
“Well it might not be Robin who kicks your ass,” Cyborg smiled. “It could be Star, or Raven, or yours truly.”
“Wow, thanks,” Beast Boy grumbled. He knew Cyborg was only teasing, and Beast Boy had been the first to admit that the skillset wasn’t exactly his strong suit. But the remark lingered in his mind a second longer than he knew it should have.
“Okay, so maybe it’s not really your thing, but hey,” Cyborg said, placing a hand on Beast Boy’s shoulder. “Practice makes perfect. You’ll get there.”
“Dude. I turn into animals for a living. Most of which don’t even have opposable thumbs,” Beast Boy said, flexing his own in front of his friend. “I don’t need to be good at something I’m never gonna use.”
Cyborg merely shook his head dismissively. “Never say never, man.”
“Okay, Robin ,” Beast Boy replied with a smirk.
As if on cue, Robin and Raven’s dance came to a halt as soon as the words left Beast Boy’s mouth. He had figured they were still out of earshot, but maybe he’d been wrong.
“There you two are,” Robin said as the two of them stepped into the loosely defined dirt ring. He glanced down at his watch and then directly at Beast Boy. “Beast Boy, you’re twenty minutes late. Practice starts at four. You know that.”
Any trace of teasing Cyborg had expressed instantly evaporated when Robin spoke.
“Uh...four-twenty blaze it?” Beast Boy said with a shrug and a terribly awkward smile. The one that always appeared on his face whenever he didn’t know what else to say--which was more often than he would have liked to admit.
Robin closed his eyes, raising a hand to his temples.
Raven’s facepalm was much less subtle.
“Starfire are you ready to go?” Robin asked, shaking his head slightly.
“Mmm hmm!” Starfire hummed in response.
“Great. Then I’m gonna have you and Beast Boy up next.”
“Uh…” Beast boy shot a glance at Starfire, who was practically the living portrait of an Instagram athlete. “Shouldn’t I warm up first or something?”
“In a real fight, you won’t always get the chance to ‘warm up’ beforehand,” Robin said, crossing his arms over his chest. Which was definitely his way of saying ‘that’s what you get for showing up late’.
“Don’t worry, Beast Boy,” Starfire smiled. “I will try not to injure you too terribly.”
Beast Boy certainly began to feel warm now, to the point where he was sure his face was turning red.
In his peripheral, he saw that Cyborg had cleared the training ring and was now standing beside Raven on the sidelines. She leaned in slightly to her left, whispering something into Cyborg’s ear with a devious smirk.
Beast Boy felt his stomach drop. He didn’t know what was worse. Starfire’s complete sincerity or Raven’s total lack thereof.
But he didn’t have much time to dwell on the thought before it was overtaken completely by a harrowing sense of panic. He had been posed for a fight, staring head on at his partner. But it was only now that his vision snapped back into focus, just in time to catch a whirling ball of green energy headed directly toward him.
He quickly swerved out of the way, trying to regain his balance. But before he could find his footing, another blaze shone at his feet, knocking him straight to the ground. He squinted, eyes beginning to water from the dust cloud that now surrounded him. He wanted to open his mouth to say something--make some complaint that he hadn’t been ready, that there had been no signal to start. But he knew that wouldn’t buy him any sympathy in Robin’s eyes.
Of course, vying for Robin’s attention was even less of a no-go once the sirens started blaring.
Without so much as a nod from the leader in question, everyone took off in the same direction. Everyone except Beast Boy, who was still on the ground.
He pushed himself to his feet, the palms of his hands stinging against the soil. He knew it wasn’t personal. None of this was personal. Kind of like how the sense of isolation and strangeness he’d felt around his friends since the reading that letter certainly wasn’t personal .
But as he watched them disappearing now--not one of them looking back to see if he had followed--it sure felt that way.
So what if calling shotgun was more important than helping him up? He shook his head, now unable to hold back a self-satisfied smirk. No matter how much of a head start they had, no one was going to outrun a cheetah.
Within seconds, the ground flew under his feet like a treadmill set on max speed. When the garage came into view, Beast Boy was relieved to find that it was already open--and more importantly empty. In a flash, he transformed back, and with the same proud smile lingering on his face sauntered over to crack open the passenger door.
His smile instantly disappeared when he saw who was behind it.
“ Raven ?”
Even at her name, she didn’t so much as shoot him a glance. Raven just sat there, comfortably nestled in the passenger seat with her feet kicked up on the dashboard. She scrolled through her phone with a bored expression--like she’d been there for hours.
“How the hell did you beat me?” Beast Boy blurted out, feeling irrationally annoyed as Raven continued to sit there, chewing a piece of gum in silence.
“Want a piece?” she said absentmindedly, materializing a pack of DoubleMint from the locked glove box. There were dozens of other flavors inside--so many packs that they filled almost half the compartment. “It’s Cyborg’s secret stash--but I won’t tell.”
Beast Boy ignored her. “There’s no way you could have beaten me here. I took a shortcut even you don’t know about,” he said curtly.
“Weird, huh?” she said, turning her attention back to her phone. “It’s almost like magic. ”
Beast Boy frowned. “That’s cheating.”
“And you turning into a cheetah clearly isn’t,” she said plainly. Then another sly smile crept onto her face. “Get it? A cheetah ?”
Beast Boy’s face scrunched up in even further annoyance. Without a word, he shut the passenger door, opening the one behind it. He already knew which seat he’d be directed to sit in. Though even calling it a seat was a bit generous. Nevertheless, he’d occupied it since day one because, of course, ‘he was the shortest and it just made sense for him to ride in the middle because if they were ever in a crash the height of the headrest wouldn’t do anyone else any good blah blah blah’. As if something as normal as a car crash would really be enough to injure a bunch of superheroes.
“Alright, let’s get this show on the road,” Cyborg said, swinging open the door to the driver’s seat and hopping inside.
As the doors on either side of him opened and closed in perfect sync, Beast Boy was struck with another harrowing consequence of his seating arrangement.
It was true that Robin and Starfire were relatively tame as far as couples went--at least in terms of explicit PDA. It was only once in a blue moon that you actually caught them exchanging so much as a kiss on the cheek. But there was no denying the magnetic force between them. And it was times like these that Beast Boy felt less like a person and more like a glitch jamming the radio signal.
“Okay,” Robin said, flicking open the communication device on his wrist. A small holographic map appeared above it, marking several heat signatures as they traversed the grid on the screen. In an instant, an identical image appeared on a screen in the center console of the car.
“Looks like they’ve already hit Gorman street,” Cyborg said, glancing at the center console.
“They’re moving fast,” Robin added, adjusting something on the device. “But only because they’ve sacrificed numbers for speed”.
“Well let’s just see if they can outrun this, ” Cyborg replied, revving the engine in response. Within moments, the Tower was far behind them.
Beast Boy leaned forward slightly to look out the window on his left. They hadn’t been driving long at all, but he had no idea where they were. Left and right, worn down warehouse buildings lined the streets as far as he could see. Overhead, a thick gray fog swallowed the entire sky.
“Starfire, I want you and Cy to go after the group of three heading west,” Robin continued, pointing to several figures on the map as he spoke. “I’ll go after the solo. Raven, Beast Boy—you two track the pair heading in the opposite direction.”
Raven didn’t outwardly protest, but her agitated sigh was enough to send its intended message.
After what seemed like only a second later, the car skidded to a halt at the edge of a narrow alley. And without missing a beat, everyone else took off in their respective directions at full speed. This time Beast Boy could confidently blame the middle seat for keeping him a step behind.
“I’ll race ya,” Beast Boy said, throwing a competitive smile at Raven, who had surprisingly seemed to be waiting for him.
“Just hurry up,” she said plainly, looking to the sky.
The streets seemed even more bleak from above.
Every other street light flickered as if choking out its dying breath. Cracks ran down the sidewalks like jagged scars, and chipped paint and graffiti adorned the walls of the decrepit buildings. Beast Boy found himself wondering where everyone was--there were barely even any cars on the streets.
“Ow!” Raven exclaimed suddenly.
Simultaneously, Beast Boy felt his wings crumple under him as he crashed into her from behind. He screeched involuntarily, trying to regain his balance.
“Why are we stopping?” he asked--or rather squawked--momentarily forgetting he was still very much a bird.
Luckily, Raven seemed to get the idea. Without a word, she pointed to two shadowy figures slipping around the corner of a nearby building. She started to open her mouth to say something then, but Beast Boy was already locking in on the figures below.
Without a second thought, he dove sharply down toward one of the shadows in his sight. Talons poised, he only managed to graze the top of his target’s head. Or at least what he could think of as being the thing’s head, as the action felt more like skimming a silhouette than an actual person.
At the very least, the surprise of his attack was enough to knock the figure off balance and trip on some debris below.
Beast Boy landed nearby, skidding onto the asphalt. Back on two legs, he whipped around and morphed once more. A rhino was always a solid play when you didn’t quite know what you were dealing with. He kicked up the rubble under his front foot and ducked his head, preparing for a running start. Then he let his momentum carry him forward--feeling the power of an entire stampede in his muscles--which turned out to be much more than he bargained for.
It was like the wall came out of nowhere. Or maybe he just hadn’t looked before leaping. Though his horn mdulled the impact slightly, Beast Boy felt every shard of cement as the crash sent a shocking ripple through his entire body. When he opened his eyes, he was back to his usual self again. But unlike a moment ago, his head was spinning, and he was on his back watching the dark clouds rolling above. His vision had doubled, even tripled, and he shook his head wearily in an attempt to focus on anything at all. Instead, he saw the shaking image of someone approaching him. And his gut told him it wasn’t one of the people they were after. It was something much worse.
“What the fuck was that?” Raven said, leaning over him with a disapproving pout on her face.
“Rhino,” was all Beast Boy could manage, his head still spinning.
Raven scowled, but extended a hand out to him regardless. When she yanked him to his feet in one swift motion, the gesture suddenly felt less sympathetic.
“We’re supposed to be working together , moron,” she said, her tone biting. “How the hell are we supposed to do that if you knock yourself out before we even catch up to the bad guys?”
Beast Boy didn’t have an answer for that. So he didn’t give one, which probably didn’t help his case any more.
“God, you’re useless,” Raven said, grabbing his wrist and dragging him behind him. “Come on.”
They continued down the natural path of the alleyway uneventfully. And that was what worried Beast Boy most. If he wasn’t going to die at the hands of their enemies, he was sure he’d die of embarrassment knowing he’d let them get away. Again.
Luckily for him, if Raven had any more thoughts on the matter she kept them to herself.
When they reached what seemed to be the end of the narrow street, Beast Boy was somewhat relieved to find that it wasn’t the dead end he had been expecting. Rather, the space before them now opened dramatically into something resembling a large courtyard. The entire perimeter was lined by walls of surrounding brick buildings--the only other entrances and exits to the pavilion being opposing alleyways much like the one they’d just emerged from.
But the courtyard’s strange location certainly wasn’t the most interesting thing about it.
In the very center, shrouded by a cloud of steam trickling through a nearby grate, two figures turned abruptly to meet their gaze. Even though Beast Boy could hardly make out the eyes looking back at them, he knew their stare was a threat.
“Don’t do anything stupid,” Raven said quietly, lingering in the shadows for a moment longer.
The words echoed in Beast Boy’s head, this time in his own voice. Then a wave of panic suddenly passed over him. He wasn’t actually sure he knew the difference between what was considered brave and what Raven would consider stupid. And he didn’t exactly have the time to mull it over.
Raven stood next to him, arms outstretched, as a flurry of flying rubble began to swirl around the two figures like a vicious tornado. Everything pulled toward them like scrap metal to a magnetic core--everything from the pebbles on the ground to full sized wooden beams and crates that littered the edges of the arena.
Beast Boy searched desperately through this mind for something to do--something to be. A mouse? Small enough to go unnoticed, but way too slow to bridge the gap between the opposing sides in such a short time. He thought to the opposite end of the spectrum. A gorilla or a bear could give him a boost of much needed strength if he cut back on speed. But maybe that was too on the nose. Just like the rhino.
He bit his lip nervously, catching Raven in his peripheral again. They were supposed to be working together after all--and she had clearly taken the lead. But he had no idea how she expected him to follow.
And suddenly, it occurred to Beast Boy that that was the secret to the riddle. The one way he could truly and certainly ‘not do something stupid’ was by not doing anything at all.
For a moment, he was almost proud of himself for finally cracking the code. But the false sense of pride evaporated as soon as he realized what it implied. Maybe his only use was...being completely useless? And just like that, he felt his stomach twist in a knot again as a familiar sense of embarrassment washed over him.
“Hellooo?” Raven’s voice rang out suddenly, snapping Beast Boy out of his daze.
He turned to look at her, finding her in the same position, teeth clenched and arms shaking ever so slightly as she held her pose.
“I said not to do anything stupid ,” she snarled. “Not ‘don’t do anything at all’!”
Beast Boy blinked hard, absorbing her words--the hint of need in her voice, however faint. And suddenly, miraculously, his feeling of uncertainty disappeared as quickly as it had come.
In a flash he was a mighty T-Rex, half as tall as the building behind him. Charging forward, he reached down and fished out one of the criminals from the fading cyclone. Grabbing the figure by the arm, he swung them into the adjacent wall with ease, a cloud of dust gathering upon the point of contact. A hit that would probably kill the average person; but Beast Boy knew that right now he was just buying time.
From the corner of his eye, he caught the second figure starting to pull out a small radio, shielding it from the winds as they spoke into the device.
But before they could utter more than a sentence or two, Beast Boy spun around, sweeping them off their feet completely with his enormous tail. The person went flying at a ninety degree angle from the last, and he watched as the body hit the crumbling wall with a ‘definitely unconscious’ crash.
Morphing back, Beast Boy stood tall, admiring his work.
Raven appeared beside him a moment later, surveying the scene.
“Not bad, huh?”
“I warmed them up for you,” Raven said matter-of-factly. But Beast Boy couldn’t stop himself from brandishing another self-satisfied smirk.
Raven automatically went over to the first fallen figure, pushing directly past him as she went. Beast Boy took the hint and headed the opposite direction, preparing to inspect the second wreckage site hound dog style.
Bombarded by a multitude of different scents, he realized that he wasn’t exactly sure what he was looking for. He hoped he would know it when he came across it. And he did--when something cold and metallic brushed up against his nose.
With an obnoxious sneeze that sent his floppy ears soaring, Beast Boy took a step back from the dust cloud he had created in front of him. He squinted, coming back up on the area after the dust had settled to find a small coin-like silver disc buried in the ground. But it looked incomplete somehow, like it was only one half of a whole, given several small divots on the surface of the disc. And there was something else mixed in with the scent of the cool metal. Something thick and tangy. He followed the scent further until he found its source.
“Uh...Raven?” He hesitated, instinctively pulling back from the spot it had led him to.
Directly at his feet, the second figure lay face down in the rubble. Their clothing made it difficult to tell what kind of injuries they sustained, but there was blood. Lots of blood.
At the top of the neck, just under their hairline, a perfect silver circle was embedded in the skin--a corresponding piece almost identical to the one on the ground a few yards away. Except this one was covered in miniature circuits and drenched in the dark red liquid oozing from underneath it.
Beast Boy quickly turned back to pick up the first piece and compare the two. He was certain they had once made a single whole. But the half he inspected in his hand seemed to be no more than the covering to the blood caked battery beneath. There was some writing on it though--and maybe that could tell him something .
In a moment, Raven was beside him again, abandoning her less interesting finds at the other end of the courtyard.
“What is it?” She asked, leaning over to try and get a better look at the item in Beast Boy’s hand.
“I don’t know,” he replied, squinting at the object as he tried to make out the markings engraved on its surface. “A...R...S…,” he read slowly. “It looks like there’s more but I can’t make it out.”
Raven extended her hand, and Beast Boy automatically dropped it into her palm for a second opinion.
“Whoever these people are, they must have something to do with that break in,” she said, flipping the silver piece over in her hand. “I guess Robin was right.”
Beast Boy looked down at the body again with a frown.
“Okay, but we still don’t have any more of an idea what they’re after.”
Raven didn’t say anything. She just stood over the body, staring at it intently--in a way that suggested more than just superficial intrigue.
Suddenly, the small metal badge embedded in the figure’s skin was enveloped in a purple haze, and Beast Boy watched in horror as it began to peel away from the flesh underneath like a perfect silver scab. Leaving behind a gruesome red ring of skin, it slowly floated up and over into Raven’s open pocket.
Beast Boy swallowed hard at the sight, a bitter taste in the back of his mouth. For a split second, he was worried he was about to revisit breakfast in the worst way.
“Dude...what the fuck ?” he said, eyes darting between the site of the impromptu surgery and Raven’s slightly blood stained pocket. “That’s nasty.”
Raven didn’t even blink. “Yeah, well so are you and Robin still keeps you around so...”
Beast Boy took a step back from the scene, the scent still of blood still lingering a little too strongly for his liking. And after watching Raven pull off something like that without so much as a moan or a grunt from the disc’s owner, he wasn’t so certain the victims were just napping anymore. He tried not to think too much about the potential fate of the person at his feet. He hated the possibility of pushing that boundary--even if they were ‘the bad guys’.
“You know, that actually wasn’t too bad,” Beast Boy said suddenly. His laugh was stifled and unconvincing, but he knew Raven wouldn’t likely acknowledge his discomfort, which was a bit of a relief in its own right. Regardless, he turned on his heel and made a purposeful decision to start walking away from the scene in hopes that she would naturally follow. Luckily, she did.
“The fight? Or having to be alone with you for more than five minutes?” She said, overtaking him by a step or two. “Because if you’re referring to the latter I’m gonna have to disagree.”
“I mean, but it works. We work. Sometimes,” Beast Boy said, though he was unsure why he was still talking. “It’s like...you know,” he droned on as they walked. “Like oil and vinegar.”
Raven noticeably began to slow her pace. “Like what ?”
“Oil and vinegar. You know. It’s like our flavor ,” Beast Boy said, making some attempt to clarify with a hand gesture.
It was here Raven stopped completely, turning to face him.
“ This ,” she said gesturing between them in return, “is not a flavor .”
Beast Boy shrugged, crossing his arms over his chest. “Well I still think it’s a good metaphor.”
“Why? Raven replied, mimicking his pose. “Because we can’t stand being together and naturally repel each other?”
“Buuuuut,” Beast Boy added pointedly, “sometimes when you put us together you get an affordable and delicious salad dressing.”
Raven paused. She closed her eyes, raising her hand to her temple in a deep, meditative stillness before opening her mouth to speak. “You know, sometimes I really wonder how I haven’t killed you by now. Even accidentally.”
Beast Boy frowned. “Just to be clear, you’re the vinegar in this situation.”
The two began to walk again, but Beast Boy only made it a few steps before Raven thrust a hand out in front of him, stopping him mid-stride. And this time it didn’t seem to be because of anything he’d said.
“What?” he blurted out stupidly. At least this time Raven would be able to understand him.
Raven was completely still for a moment longer, her eyes slowly scanning the area around them. “You didn’t hear that?” she said quietly.
“Hear what?” Beast Boy said, again the words feeling stupid and redundant the moment he uttered them.
“Something other than the sound of your own voice,” Raven said under her breath.
Beast Boy looked all around them, just as Raven had. But he didn’t see anything. Let alone hear anything out of the ordinary.
“You’re just being paranoid,” he said, lightly pushing her arm back down to her side. “There were only two of them. You saw on Robin’s map.”
Raven didn’t seem too comforted by the reminder.
Beast Boy moved slightly to meet her gaze, which was focused somewhere far off in the distance. “I’m tellin’ ya. Oil and vinegar.”
Then, with a little more force than he expected, Raven pushed pushed past him and began to walk again.
“Where are you going?” Beast Boy said, somewhat startled.
“Home.”
“Didn’t you wanna sweep the area first?”
“Not if it means twenty more minutes of this,” Raven said, waving her hand dismissively. “Besides, I’m just being ‘paranoid’.”
“Okay, well so much for working together then I guess,” Beast Boy said, rolling his eyes.
Raven shot him a look over her shoulder. Then, in an instant, she froze, eyes growing wide as she opened her mouth to say something.
But Beast Boy beat her to it.
He wasn’t sure the noise he made was completely human, even if the small blade twirling in the dirt just past him hadn’t completely hit its mark. He bit his lip to keep himself from another outburst. It had only grazed the side of his calf, but that was enough to bring him to one knee. He knew that if it had hit him the way it had been intended, he’d be on the ground.
Suddenly, everything around him was engulfed in shadow--and Beast Boy wondered if this was what people meant when they talked about ‘blacking out’. He really hoped that wasn’t what was happening. Not in front of Raven of all people. And not over a glorified paper cut .
A moment later, finding he was still very much conscious, Beast Boy was relieved to find that Raven was the source of the shadowy dome that now surrounded them on all sides. But the relief didn’t last long.
Beyond the opaque screen of darkness, there was a ceaseless blur of motion. Hundreds of tiny silver sparks rebounded off the outer edge, like hail raining down in a terrible storm.
Beast Boy glanced up at Raven from where he knelt on the ground. She was gritting her teeth, brow furrowed and eyes aglow. She didn’t so much as blink when he looked at her, which wasn’t a good sign.
He looked around frantically. Every direction depicted the same terrible scene. Every direction—except for one. It was only now that he noticed how soft the earth was underneath him. How the asphalt of the alleyways seemed to melt away as they worked their way toward the center of the courtyard. And that gave him an idea. An idea Beast Boy didn’t allow himself to think through.
There was something reassuring about being so close to the ground. But the transformation into a badger probably hadn’t been the best for his wound. His leg was starting to ache even more now, and he realized that would probably make digging all the more difficult.
But before he could test his hypothesis, a voice rang out over the crackling of bullets, clear and strong and demanding to be heard.
“Do you have a death wish?,” Raven yelled, her voice cutting above the static.
“What do you think?” Beast Boy said, instantly morphing back. The words came out as sharp as the blades whirling around them.
“Well I guess it’s a good thing gophers are bulletproof ,” Raven said with a laugh dripping with anything but humor.
“ Badgers . It’s a badger .” Beast Boy could feel the adrenaline pulsing in his veins like wildfire--even though he knew the reaction was unwarranted, especially given the more concerning matters at hand.
“Really bad time for an argument, Beast Boy. Really bad time,” Raven bit back.
For a split second, Beast Boy thought of going ahead with his plan anyway. Then it occurred to him that he’d probably already used up what little luck he had for the day.
“Okay, so what’s your bright idea?” he said, struggling to hide the growing annoyance in his voice. But all things considered, he really hoped she had one.
“Not dying. That’s my plan,” she said, shutting her eyes tightly.
Beast Boy looked around nervously--though he wasn’t sure what he was looking for.
“Can’t you just...teleport us out or something?” he said, biting his lip.
“Teleportation or force field. You get one .”
The second Raven spoke though, she was interrupted by a noise that overtook even the hammering of the bullets around them. The short metallic pings were swapped for one firework-like explosion, the ground beneath them trembling just enough to make Beast Boy second guess his balance. From the looks of it, their attackers hadn’t been so lucky.
The bullets raining down on them slowed to a drizzle--then seemed to stop completely after a few stray shots. But not because the remaining gunmen had ceased fire. Rather, the firing now seemed to be directed somewhere else entirely.
Before Beast Boy could figure out where everyone else had turned their attention, his own focus was redirected again as he felt something cold on his wrist. A hand, gripping onto him with what felt like an unnecessary amount of force.
Beast Boy felt the ground sway beneath him again uneasily until it disappeared completely, the hard dirt and asphalt replaced by rough gray concrete. When the scene before him came into a clear focus, his stomach lurched. With a primal desperation, he reached out, searching for the hand that had just let go of him. Now he was the one holding on like his life depended on it.
In front of him now was a perfect aerial snapshot of the pavilion. They had to be at least ten stories up, given the size of the figures below them.
“Um…”
Beast Boy looked up, heart still pounding, though he wasn’t sure the vertigo was responsible for the anxiety he felt now.
Raven was staring at him--or rather their hands intertwined--with a clear level of discomfort. What kind, Beast Boy couldn’t tell.
“You can let go of my hand now,” she said slowly.
Beast Boy flinched, releasing her hand from his own as quickly as he had grabbed it. His knuckles were stiff, flushed by the strain of his grip.
An awkward beat of silence passed between them, broken only when Raven turned to grab something from her pocket.
“What are you doing?” Beast Boy asked, terribly conscious of the slight crack in his voice.
“Calling Robin,” Raven replied, an audible ring echoing from the blood-spotted comms device now resting in her hand.
The two waited for another excruciatingly long moment until the ringing came to an abrupt, unanswered halt.
“I guess he’s busy,” Beast Boy shrugged. But something snagged in his stomach at the thought. Robin probably was very busy. But Beast Boy wasn’t sure he really believed that was why he hadn’t picked up. He took out his own pager anxiously, already flipping through the contacts on the main screen. “Lemme try Cyborg.”
The dial tone cut off after the first ring.
Raven paused for a moment then looked up at him. “I don’t even have a signal.”
Beast Boy looked down at the device in his own hand. Neither did he. “Huh. Well that’s...weird.”
“Yeah,” Raven said, a definitive frown forming on her lips. “And that’s not the only thing that’s a little weird.”
As she spoke, Raven stared down at the pavilion below them, unblinking. She seemed intently focused on...something. But Beast Boy wasn’t entirely sure that it was the fight happening on the ground. A fight that was becoming increasingly hard to follow, even for someone who was trying to keep up with it.
Beast Boy scanned the turf once, then again through the eyes of a hawk, hoping for a better view. Squinting beyond the cloud of dust, he finally was able to hone in on the action--and more importantly, their attackers’ new target.
The man stood out like a current rolling on a still sea. Rather than trying to dodge the attacks of his pursuers, he danced through the waves with an impossible accuracy, almost as if he were intentionally trying to attract their shots. And he did--like hungry flies to a show horse. Only he never seemed to get bitten. The flies bit themselves. They bit each other. Falling one after the other around him as they continued to follow him further and further away from the center of the pavilion.
Just before the man disappeared into the shadows of the opposite alleyway, Beast Boy finally caught a glimpse of his face amongst the swarming insects--his shiny black hair and toothless grin glistening in the artificial night.

Year of the cow, or how I stopped worrying and loved the meme (BBRae)
Beast Boy's and Raven's relationship is truly one of the most subtle and emotional ones I have seen. There are lots of fantastically written fics which dive deep into characterisation and their nuanced, complicated emotions, showing complex colours of the spectrum of love.
Unfortunately, you have made a mistake clicking on one of my fics.
This is a birthday present for my buddy, ZekkKiray, and it revolves around a meme which I really found irritating... And I wondered how other characters might have reacted to it. Happy birthday, man!
yes, still half hour till midnight in my time zone, made it.
BBRae, 4k, E, (Ao3)
==========
As the Sun slowly hid on the horizon, Jump City, just like every city and town in the world, was slowly preparing for a glorious celebration. People were ready to welcome the new year with dances, parties and optimism encouraged by copious amounts of alcohol.
But not everyone was interested in partying and throwing caution to the wind. Five superheroes traversed the town's rooftops, watching over many celebrations, and ideal breeding grounds for crime, big or small.
Robin, Starfire, Cyborg, Raven and Beast Boy set out to patrol the city, to ensure that this momentous occasion won't be disturbed by any wrong-doer...
And quite quickly decided to join the party. Well, some of them. Robin sighed when he realised that his team has disbanded to join the crowd of onlookers, cheering and applauding the band on the colorful stage, that would soon be replaced by another group, hired just to play one or two hits for some quick cash.
Raven stayed to the side as well, keeping her eye not only at her friends, but the crowd, though her attention was suddenly caught by the dancers on the stage. Three women, dressed in black-and-white horned costumes, performing a synchronised dance, much to the delight of the audience.
- Er, and what exactly is that? Some sort of fad...?
- Oh, no, friend Raven! - Starfire was eager to explain - Robin has told me it's a Chinese calendar! And the Chinese have chosen an animal to represents each year, and...
- Oh, yeah, right. - Raven interrupted her - And lemme guess, this year's a cow?
- Ox, technically. - Robin chimed in - And it's not even started yet, it's based on a lunar one, so it will be somewhere in February.
Raven looked at the women in their silly costumes, dancing and playfully jiggling their fake udders and cow-bells to the beat of the music.
- Meh, whatever, it's gonna be over soon. Oh, by the way, this guys was pickpocketing. - Raven spoke nonchalantly, her shadow coiling around a burly man's throat.
By January fourth, however, Raven was seeing cows everywhere. Television, billboards, the internet... especially the internet. She felt as if it was a single-themed Halloween party that somehow stretched to a week.
And the boys weren't helping. While Robin remained reasonably level-headed, Cyborg and Beast Boy were having times of their lives, enjoying every single appearance of the costumes in real life, or in any media.
The worst thing was, Raven wasn't even sure why the fad irritated her so much. There were much more asinine things out there. But something about that fad was driving her nuts.
At the very least, there was Starfire, who sometimes was able to understand her.... or so Raven thought until she returned one day from the market with plastic cow-horns on her head a bell around her neck.
Raven groaned at the sight of his friend and stormed out of the common room, pushing away few streamers, still lingering after the new year's party.
She closed door to her room behind her and embraced the darkness and silence that allowed her to meditate and focus her powers...
And then she heard the faint jingling of the cowbells from behind the wall.
The purple flames on the candles around her shot up to the ceiling, as Raven tried to control her irritation.
She barked and grabbed her mirror, disappearing into her private void that extinguished the flames she ignited.
Raven walked down the floating rocks that paved her dimension, encased in darkness, illuminated by just few stars and distant galaxies. The ravens flew away in fear, as she glided forward, hoping to find some peace and quiet here...
- Hiya!
But of course, in this realm, she was never truly alone.
A woman dressed in pink jumped from behind a nearby rock, causing Raven to cease her movement just for a while, before she promptly decided to ignore her own emoticlone.
- Oh come on, you haven't been here for ages! - the jovial embodiment of happiness continued - We've been having SO much fun here!
- Great. Leave me alone.
But before she could react, Pink grabbed her and steered her off-path, flying down a different route, loudly announcing their presence.
- Hey guys. looks who's here! - she shouted, waving the arm she wasn't using to maneuver Raven between rocks.
- Oh, great, our big sister... - the Orange mumbled from behind a couch-shaped rock
- Have-have we done something wrong? - the timid Graphite pulled over her cloak
- Judging from your prolonged absence, something extraordinary must have happened. - Yellow interjected, eyeing Raven with curious stare.
Raven let out another groan.
- It's nothing. Leave me-
- Oh, is it about you-know-who?
Violet's sly and suggestive voice prompted Raven to pause mid-turn. her eye twitched.
- Ooh, very brave of you to tackle the most common problem of your visits! - Green added at once. - He can be annoying...
- I've said...
A blast of energy erupted around her, as Raven turned away, but couldn't finish her sentence. There was one emotion left, and she knew very well what can summon her, and it was already too late.
- Come on, say it.
Red spoke, gleaming with a subtle, yet unmistakeable triumph in her voice.
- I'm done with you. - Raven answered and continued her walk, before being predictably stopped again
- Oh sure, is this why you have almost brought me back? - she sneered - And for such petty reason...
- Ooh, tell us, tell us! - Pink chimed in, before being brought aside by Yellow
- Let me do it...
Red spoke and spread her arms, giving the other emoticlones chance to glimpse into what little she have seen.
- That... that is quite an insignificant reason to bring back *her* - Yellow judged - Are you sure it's adequate?
- I'm just afraid this will backfire... - Graphite meeped from behind her
- But I was right - Violet added - It is about him...
- ENOUGH!
Raven burst with energy, silencing her living emotions.
- We just want you to say it, so we can... help you.
The Red emoticlone stood in her way, finally making her stop. Her presence cast a shadow of fear on the lesser creatures of this realm, and even some other emoticlones that dared not to approach her. Red's voice was strangely polite, though Raven knew she must have an ulterior motive behind it.
- And you know what the answer to your problem is.
Anger reached her arm and waited for Raven's response. She couldn't meet her eyes. She was right, of course, but at the same time, embracing the violent and unpredictable part of her nature, reminding her of her father's legacy filled her with disgust...
- But you will not be alone with it. - Violet suddenly joined.
- And while it may look odd, this might be an opportunity to broaden your horizons. - Yellow continued.
- And let's face it, you've done weirder things, but you never cowered away! - Green shouted.
- Besides, it's gonna be so much fun! - Pink smiled.
Raven lifted her hood and looked at the other emoticlones, all awaiting her decision.
Knowing she's delaying the inevitable, with a heavy sigh, Raven made her decision.
===============
Garfield knew better not to interrupt Raven. He has made that mistake a few times in his life, and he still had his life only because Raven was his friend.
Still, seeing her angry was painful, thought not as much as the silent treatment he was getting from her. Beast Boy hesitated for a moment, and just before he was about to knock on her doors, he stopped himself.
With a sigh, he turned around and returned to his room, finding someone already inside.
At first, Garfield thought he was dreaming. But after a few blinks, he realised that the marvellous, dreamy sight in front of his eyes was real, and it made his heart skip a beat.
Raven's trademark, dark-blue attire was gone, replaced by a white costume dotted with black-and-brown spots. Her long legs were covered in fishnets with the same pattern, and as his eyes travelled up, he realised what was exerting the gravitational force that was pulling him that way...
The skin-tight costume had changed his perception, perhaps, but even then, Raven' nipples were just a fraction of an inch away from slipping, as her breast were simply too big to stay hidden in any article of clothing.
And when he looked at her horned head again, he noticed a faint smile on her face, contrasting so much with her demeanour over the past few days. She shifted her legs, spreading them slightly, giving him just a small tease of what was to come, and with her eyes fixated at him, she spoke.
- Moo, I guess.
- Oh, momma!
And before she knew it, Beast Boy leapt onto her with the grace and agility of a frog, diving between her enlarged breasts, and feeling the delicate, cushioning texture engulf his head almost entirely. And at the same time, with his fingers digging into the material, he freed Raven's breasts, hungrily kissing each square inch of her body as if his life depended on it.
- Gar... - Raven moans, feeling her boyfriend wriggling against her bosom
- I see someone has changed her mind...
- You can say that... - Raven replied, hiding the moan that was about to escape her lips.
- I guess you took Starfire's approach and visited the market? - Beast Boy joked, between his kisses - Or, wait, no, you ordered it online so no one will know, right?
- Let's just say I didn't have to order it...
For a moment, Beast Boy pondered the meaning of her words, until he realised that he has seen her outfit once before. Well, without the black-and-brown blots. And as the realisation dawned on him, he let out a gasp, as Raven's eyes glowed white.
Only one of the spots was brown. There was a pink, yellow, green one...
Her most powerful form, the combination of all of her emotions sat on his bed, emanating raw magical, warm energy that could easily vaporise him if she wanted to. Beast Boy suspected the horns weren't plastic either, and that he has just made a few snarky jokes to a demonic sorceress orders of magnitude more powerful than him.
And yet, she was still smiling.
- I just... - Raven swallowed - Couldn't stand you ogling all those cartoon anime girls on-line, in their stupid cow costumes. So I had to fight fire with fire.
- Aww... - Beast Boy cooed - Is my Raven jealous?
- YES. - the demon spoke in deep, rumbling voice that shook some of the objects on the shelves.
The spots on her White costumes suddenly glowed with ominous, red aura, as blood in Garfield's veins froze.
Her face was inches away from his, and only when she felt his hastened breath, she calmed down, and her spots returned to their original colours, just as the red aura disappeared from her eyes. She reached her hands and cupped his face, glad that he did not back away, as her anger overtook her. Their lips met, and Raven poured her apologies into him in a long, delicate kiss.
- And you will have to pay for it. - she smiled, giving Garfield clear sign she was everything under control, including him.
- Rae... - Garfield whined - You-you know I'd never... they... they don't mean anything...
- Then prove it.
Raven used the moment of hesitation to engulf him and with one sharp move of her hands and her magic, she ripped his clothes to shreds and brought her lover closer to her. With his shorts gone, Raven's eyes fixated on his cock, and had to restrain herself from licking her lips, as its head came closer and closer to her face. But of course neither of them would settle on just a blowjob, given the magic Raven cast upon herself.
Beast Boy jumped onto her breasts again, peppering them with plethora of hungry, ravenous kisses. Knowing already her bosom by heart, he know had a whole new territory to explore, and he did that with impeccable dedication. But as his lips closed around her nipple, he received a taste of something unexpected. His eyes widened, and met hers, as sweet substance made contact with his tongue. The sly smile on her lips remained, but as Beast Boy began lapping her milk, her face was torn with a new grimace he hasn't seen yet, and Raven was more than eager to experience.
Garfield moved from one nipple to the other, wishing he could transform into some creature with two heads. As Raven squirmed and moaned underneath him, he wondered what will happen soon, and with his hand manoeuvring between her thighs, he was determined to discovered that.
Her back arched, as his fingers reached her wet spot and slipped underneath her costume, just as his tongue coiled around her nipple again. Though she was trying to contain her emotions, the spots on her costume glowed in violet with each kiss and delicate move of his fingers against or inside her sex, and soon, Raven was thrashing underneath him, ready to burst.
And when she did, it was not with energy, but with milk that filled Beast Boy's mouth, in an act that surprised both of them.
Raven quaked for a few more minutes, coating his fingers with her juices he now lapped as eagerly as the new one she produced for him. Beast Boy made sure to wait until she was looking at him when he licked his lips, tasting both.
- Come'ere, I'm thirsty too... - she huffed, and settled herself amongst the pillows, ready to invite him.
Beast Boy let out a dreamy sigh, as his cock slid between her breasts, engulfing him completely with the delicate, heavenly texture only her breasts could provide. And when Raven gently pushed her mounds together, she added the missing part of friction, making Beast Boy throw his head back, even though he hasn't moved an inch.
But as he looked down at his girlfriend, he met her unusually frisky eyes, and with that, he flexed his muscles. Next thing she knew, his hands were on her horns, and he pushed his hips forward, diving deep into her bosom.
His action was a bit sudden and Raven's eyes opened wide when she realised that her head was pulled forward and that his twitching tip was now a fraction of an inch from her lips. And as she was about to open them, he pulled back and began his thrusts, mewling and moaning with each one, as pleasure slowly engulfed him.
He was in trance, brought by the alluring sight of his girlfriend and her magically enlarged bosom and thge reward they were leaking. And as Raven promised, she wanted one of her own: now, with every rapid thrust, her tongue lapped a drop or two of his pre-cum, in turn only generating more samples of what was to come. Raven was pretty sure what was his plan, but she opened her lips wide anyway, hoping to catch at least some of his oncoming climax.
- Rae...Rae... I LOVE YOU!
And with that proclamation, beast Boy dived balls-deep between her magically enlarged breasts, letting her warmth and size cover them as well, which only strengthened his orgasm. Raven yelped when the first stream of his seed flooded her mouth, and closed her mouth just in time to suck a bit more, even though she knew what was the sight he wanted to see.
As he pulled back, his cock was still twitching, spurting more and more of his virility in the valley between her mounds, until it slowly started to spill down, glazing her breasts with the sticky proof of his devotion.
And just as he thought he has seen it all, Raven dragged her finger across her breasts, hoping to catch as much of his cum as possible before it all drips to the bed. she parted her fingers to show the sticky strands between them before she closed her lips around them and made him collapse to his back from the simple act of tasting him.
- That was fun - she spoke, as most of his seed made it to her lips. - But you know what every cow needs, right?
Raven asked, lapping the last bit of cum from her tits. She leaned forward and with the same low, salacious tone as before, whispered the words that Beast Boy already had on his mind.
- Her bull...
His green body grew in a split of second, transforming him, but not in the form of the animal Raven expected. While his head became elongated and grew bovine horns, his torso and arms remained human, though much more muscular, and only the addition of hooves on his legs and a tail truly made her realise what he was now: a minotaur.
But of course, hooves and tail was not what piqued Raven's interest the most, as her eyes looked down at the figure towering over her.
This time, she could not stop herself and her lust; Raven licked a small droplet of drool that formed on her lips, and reached her hand to experience the enormous, throbbing organ whose glistening head was now once more inches away from her lips.
But her lover didn't want another blowjob. As steam-like cloud escaped his nostrils, Beast Boy grabbed her and effortlessly slammed her onto his cock, watching as the sorceress lets out a silent moan.
When he went down on her, Raven tried to maintain at least some dignity. But now, as her sex was filled completely with his monstrous cock, she threw all of the pretence away and babbled her lover's name, while the blots on her costume pulse violet each time his cock reached her depths, time after time, depraving her of common sense, as bliss slowly overtook her mind.
But not until she has managed to speak one last wish.
- D-Do what you are supposed to!
Raven screamed, her voice vibrating with the erratic thrusts her entire body was subjected to.
- Mate me! Breed me!
Another roar escaped his mouth, and Raven took a gasp of air just in time to expel it, as Beast Boy shoved himself deeper inside her throbbing pussy that before, firmly positioning himself as far as possible, right against her core, he now bathed in first deluge of his seed. And with his thick, monster cock forming an air-tight seal, not a drop of his virility could leak out, and was forced up into her womb. What would have been impossible for any other man became a child's play for him, letting Raven experience the impossible.
And with the flood of his warm seed filling her, came her orgasm, making Raven thrash around his cock, as if she was a puppet on his mercy. With each wave that flooded and promptly overflowed her sex, came a new sensation of being filled and claimed, and in turn, each simultaneously extinguished fire in her loins, and set it anew...
At some point, Raven fell back to the bed, feeling her pussy pulse with each after-wave of her climax, while Beast Boy's seed oozed onto the bed. She wasn't sure how long her after-glow lasted, but she knew what brought her back to her senses.
Her breasts were kissed again, with the same tender and care the minotaur would never learn. Beast Boy was his regular self, taking care of her body his monstrous form has neglected, listening to her breath slowly becoming less and less erratic.
She looked up and their eyes met, while Garfield locked his lips around her nipple again, drinking her orgasm.
- Hey.
- Hey. - she replied - I guess people were right, those cow costumes do work.
- Rae, you could dress like a platypus and you'd be sexy.
Raven smiled, and her hand reached to her lover's cheek, prompting him to leave her nipple.
Their lips met again, and though she thought she would be tired by now, she welcomed him again, especially as his hands now roamed her thighs and ass.
She let out another moan, seemingly far louder than a moment before, but maybe it was because her voice wasn't drowned by the beast's low grunts, but Garfield's borderline cute huffs.
And even though he was now much shorter and thinner than before, somehow Raven felt fuller than when a giant minotaur ravaged her. Maybe it was his kisses, dotting her breasts and lapping her milky fluid, maybe it was his delicate, but steady grip of his hands on her thighs... or maybe it was the unspoken promise they mentioned...
As they kept coming closer, the empath suddenly grabbed his cheeks and pulled him against her, not to kiss, but to find emotions raging in his mind. And she found them - those of love, protection, dedication and responsibility, which easily pushed her to the edge...
She cried out his name just as he flooded her again, this time with his essence, and even though Raven knew it was impossible, she somehow felt the difference in warmth that filled her sex.
As the two breathed in the same air, Raven gently moved her hand between her body, feeling the warmth of his body above her, and his cock and seed inside. She could undo the spell right now, and change their lives forever... And she had to admit, it would be a very apt moment... but then again, she would rob them of many, many heated moments like these.
It's a good thing she buddied up with Yellow as much as with Violet for this ride.
The two lay ion each other's arms for quite some time, savouring each other's scents and warmth, until Raven found strength and motivation to speak.
- So, got any more silly internet memes trending?
Beast Boy smiled and reached for his phone.
=============
Winter this year was snow-less, rainy and mild, like for the past half a decade or so. But that only made the New Year's eve less cumbersome, as it meant less time traversing through mounds of snow. Plus, it meant the Titans' Tower rooftop wasn't off limits.
- I thought this place, at this time would be the worst to meditate. - Beast Boy spoke - The whole sky's gonna be on fire in five minutes.
- Yeah, but maybe I wanted to watch.
He sat next to her, listening to far-away sounds of concerts and premature celebration. He scooted a few inches closer to her, and let out a short meep when her cape covered him.
- I wonder what this year will bring us. - he spoke, ruining the quiet, charming moment.
- I do - Raven answered quickly. - This year is gonna be of the tiger.
Raven spoke and undid a button of her cape that joined the two, freeing her breasts. Beast Boy swallowed loudly, seeing the moonlight shining onto her skin, and making her bosom look bigger with no additional magic required.
- Why don't we practice, kitty?
And with that, the night's air was filled with a powerful roar of a predator cat that has just found its very willing prey.

Olive, I'm so excited for the writing challenge!!! I also saw that you started watching Titans! Which I am also very excited about!!
I'm curious, are you gonna add it to your list of fandom's once you're done watching it?
Also, what are you thoughts so far?
i'm glad your excited!
and as for titans,,,,, i really like it! it's interesting! i love the characters! the show definitely leaned into the grungy aesthetic, but i am of the mind that you can make a story ~dark~ without having to sacrifice the quality.
and, i think the biggest factor that contributes to my enjoyment of the show is that i have never been,,,,,,, literate when it comes to dc comics. i don't know them very well at all. which means, i can't quibble with different aspects of the story. i can only enjoy it!
i mean, my older brother used to really be into batman when i was younger, and he would tell me all about the batboys and since we're being honest, you know i had a crush on jason todd at once point,,,,, it was unavoidable. and i remember watching teen titans when i was younger and adoring it, but honestly,,,, i can't remember much anymore in terms of plot (but i do remember than that iconic™ theme song, and the fact that i absolutely adored cyborg. where is he, anyway?). so i'm familiar with the characters but also any knowledge i have is foggy, so i'm not caught up in the particulars. i can just enjoy the story for what it is.
i kinda hope that koriand'r gets a new outfit because,,,,, that outfit is a lot™. but you know what? she works it. and i don't mind her and dick being aged up? i don't think it's a big deal, but i imagine people have thoughts™ on that, because even though it's not teen titans, it still is.
oh! also!!!!! i love gar, and i live for the bbrae crumbs that are in the show. the teen titans ships will live long in my heart, even if i don't remember the source material, lol. i also don't mind that gar isn't green? but also, i love ryan potter, so maybe i'm just biased, lol (hiro hamada??? im mY titans???).
i'm excited to see where the show goes! i feel like there's a lot of potential! a lot of fun/interesting characters! a lot of interesting dynamics! a lot of plot (that really could have used a longer season, imo, but maybe season two is like the second part? idk)!
oh, and i just met donna troy! i love her already. she seems amazing, and i can't wait to get to know her better.
i feel like dick is my favorite character so far, but it could also just be because the show prioritizes him; we'll have to see.
#asks#mutuals#kit — 💖#long post#this is a lot but i'm tired so i'm rambling#and i know you like the show so i figured i had to go at it#oh and i feel like koriand'r and dick's relationship is a little rushed but it's whatever#i know i'm not a romantic so i am good at getting over that kind of stuff#anyway where is cyborg i miss him#in this house we believe in cyborg supremacy.#sorry in this t-shaped tower we believe in cyborg supremacy.#speaking of when are the titans going to get a tower? is it going to be a t?#lol no it probably won't but there needs to be a t motif just to pay tribute

do you still watch titans? Pretty sure Joshua Orpin gave a hint in his IG live that something with bbrae will happen this season. It was a non spoiler chat but he gave a lot of insight and hints on things I had already known (that have been confirmed by sources and screeners and hinted at by official interviews). Can’t prove it well but when I was watching the live towards the end the chat was pretty void of questions except one and while he was looking at the chat he goes “oooooh I really want to answer that one but it will be a spoiler”… the question was a general one about bbrae happening. On my screen I kid you not that was the only question he could’ve been referring to. I wasn’t recording it and the video on YouTube doesn’t have the chat but I did screenshot it and I went back and looked and there were no other questions he could’ve been looking at when he said that. Which leads me to believe we’re gonna get some kind of confirmation. Like you could tell he was being as truthful as he could be with his answers in general so not really sure why he’d say that if nothing will happen anyways. And for context as to maybe why he said it out loud people kept asking about Connor and romance because some want him and Gar to be a thing 😒 after the actors jokingly said they ship them last season and some really thought it would happen just because the actors jokingly said they liked it. But ofc he says theyre brothers and teased a romance plot line for himself and someone who isn’t Gar (don’t know if you know about it yet so I won’t spoil who but it was hinted at in an official interview back in June/July). I’m thinking they admit their feelings verbally. Something non physical. This is going to be a long wait though.
Awesome info Anon! Yeah I still watch Titans, but I’m more of a casual fan these days. I think this season is off to a good start. I know Gar and Rachel have filmed scenes together. They were together in a lot of the bts. So I’m sure there will be bbrae moments. I’m most interested in how their reunion will go. I hope it’s an emotional one. Rachel just give Gar a hug.

Let’s talk about Raven for a minute! Or, more specifically, how (my interpretation of) Raven would handle a relationship, because I’m absolute trash and I’ve been thinking about this for a while. This is gonna get long, so bear with me!
We all know Raven has trouble with emotions - that’s one of her biggest things, especially in the cartoon. We see that while she cares deeply for others, she isolates herself and closes off her emotions both to protect others and to keep her powers under control. She doesn’t want to get too close to anyone, because she knows that even as hard as she’s tried to fight and escape it, one day she won’t be able to run from what she is - from the prophecy. Why lower her walls and let anyone in if it’s only going to cause more pain and suffering for that person?
She was taught basically from birth about the prophecy and that her powers stem from her emotions; she was taught to close herself off and learn control in the hopes that she would be strong enough to prevent Trigon from using her. She was taught that for her, emotions are dangerous. Weakness, even.
Sure, Raven had a thing with Malchior; but the thing there is that she was being manipulated. She was in a place where she felt more alone than she had in a long time, and then suddenly there’s someone who seems to understand her and seems to genuinely care for her. And it’s not that the Titans don’t, but she’s gotten it in her head that they think she’s creepy and don’t understand her. And Malchior takes that and runs with it, using her when she’s almost desperate to feel like she belongs somewhere - which is why she’s so quick to have feelings for him. Not to mention that’s the first time anyone has said she’s beautiful! He convinces her to help him escape his curse, and it breaks her heart when she realizes too late that he was lying the whole time.
— “He lied. He lied, and I gave him what he wanted.”
And even though Beast Boy helps her feel better after it’s all said and done, it sticks with her.
Even after the Trigon arc, when she’s able to start opening up here and there to her friends, she’s still part demon; it doesn’t change how she grew up, or the fact that even as it gets easier to control her powers, emotions are still hard to deal with. She tries, but it’s a slow process.
Because of all this, she’s still slow to trust at first, especially in potential romantic relationships. Part of her thinks maybe she doesn’t deserve such happiness, or at least that the other person deserves someone better than her. This especially applies when the other person is a more upbeat, sunny type. Yes I have BBRae in mind, but it can apply to other ships as well.
And yes, she would be slow to trust, but I can see her realizing she has feelings before the other, and keeping it to herself; not only that, but while in a relationship she’d be the one more likely to leave if something happened purely because “they deserve so much better than the darkness inside me” and “how could they actually love someone like me??” and “I’d only make them regret ever being with me”
But she’s also fiercely devoted to those she cares about, to the point where she’d do anything to protect them; so once she loves someone, she loves them deeply, even if she doesn’t quite understand it :’)
#a magician never reveals her secrets ( OOC )#headcanon#you will always be daddy's little girl ( RAVEN )#tl;dr raven is emotionally constipated#but still cares with every fiber of her being#it's 3 in the morning someone end my suffering

A little Excerpt from a BBRAE Roleplay between my friend and I:
A little context: It’s two years after the end of season 5. Raven is 18, nearly 19 and Beast boy is 18. Raven has fallen in love with Beast boy after he nearly died protecting her from a cult of Trigon seeking revenge. Literally a week after theyve recovered from their wounds, Raven has been losing control of her powers and has been sinking into depression and even losing control of her demonic powers. Robin told everyone to leave raven alone to collect herself, but beast boy had to talk with her...and so he decided to write her a letter.
The excerpt is below the cut! :D I just wanted to share this cause it’s super in character and fucking cute ;A; I really wanna draw this and make it a full on fic, as it does fit nicely with my headcanons... Also, forgive us for any spelling errors. this is via the LINE app on cell lmao
The parts written by me are indicated, and my rp partner is the marvelous @angel-dust-ryuuki
Me: Beast boy stuck his head out of his room...looked to the left, looked to the right. No one in sight. It was nearing bed time and everyone was in their respective rooms. He heard muffled robin and starfire chatting, but could not make out anything they were saying. Raven's room was still cold, and almost gave off an unholy aura. It was dead silent. He wondered if Raven had gone to sleep finally? In any case, Beast boy carried out his little "plan." "If robin wont let me speak to you in person..." He thought to himself, kneeling down to her door. "I'll just have to write instead!" Beast boy slipped underneath raven's door, that single piece of crinkled up paper. Raven noticed it right away. She could always feel when someone was near...And she saw the little paper quietly slip under her door. Beast boy trotted back to his room, took one last look down the hallway at her door, and then closed his door behind him. Plopping back down on his queen sized bed, he began to game some.
Raven didn't know what to expect. But judging from the crinkly-ness of the paper and the horrendous writing, it had to be beast boy. Beast boy...her heart fluttered. Raven opened up the crude letter to look at a small little paragraph or two. She had to squint her eyes to read it.
"Raven- It's me, beast boy. I heard you weren't feeling well with everything that's going on. I just want you to know that it's okay to feel the way you do. Sometimes we have good days and sometimes we have bad days. And I know you're gonna say 'I'm not allowed to have bad days', but...I just want you to know we all hope you feel better soon! I hope I didn't do anything to hurt you or make you upset. Let me know if i did! You can punish me in any way you want! ...well, just don't take away my videogames! (he drew a random smiley face here).
If you're having trouble sleeping, maybe come hang out with me for a little while. I know it's a stretch, but I know robin and starfire do their...Adult things at night and cy usually has to charge his battery by late night...I'm usually up though! You're free to come visit. I won't tell anyone don't worry! The offer's always there and my door is unlocked at night if you need anything. You don't even have to knock! (insert another smiley face here.)
I hope you feel better soon, rae.
-From: (there were a few words here that were scratched out and illegible, followed by a slightly more bold signature: ) Changling. "
Angel: Raven blushed at the letter and held it close. She couldn't help but feel the warmth of his words in this cold room. Deciding to play along.
Beastboy was on his bed when a crow appeared. Dropping a neatly folded and stamped letter on his chest before it disappeared like smoke.
"Dear Changling, Nice name by the way. It's rather fitting. Do you plan to make it your new hero name?I appreciate the concern for what appears to be a more then unwelcome bad day. I know you want to tell me it's okay to feel the way I do. But feelings are not something I can have. You know how unstable my powers are. You didn't hurt me or make me upset. Nothing that has happened is your fault. The fault only lies with me. So please do not blame yourself for any of this. I will take your offer under consideration.-Raven
Me: Beast boy smiled and then looked around his room for more paper. Of course he was cleaner the more mature he had gotten, no longer being able to tolerate the smell. Most of his mess remained inside his closet though. Finally finding another paper he began his response.
A few moments later another paper slipped under her door.
"yeah, changling sounds pretty neat huh? I'll have to admit even I'm surprised I came up with that! (emoji here). Maybe I can ask robin if my personal file can be updated.
Look, I know you're not too keen on spending an evening late at night with some weird green dude but I SWEAR. I won't make you play video games or even make you talk. U could just come and read one of Ur books and I can do my own thing... I know how being alone can make u feel depressed."
Raven paused for a moment. She felt a chill go down her spine. Her room was so cold.. No doubt thanks to her powers reflecting her mood a little.
" the offer is always here. Even if I'm asleep or something u can wake me up! I don't care! I just want you to feel better raven."
Raven blushed deeply and sighed continuing to read the last bit.
"I'm glad I didn't mess up anything... I seriously been feeling like u were mad at me about something. But thanks raven. I won't worry anymore."
Angel: "Dear Changling,I'm sure Robin will have no problem with that. I've heard from Starfire he too is planning to soon change his Hero name to Nightwing. "Pausing on how to continue this. But feeling...lonely? Sighing. "I know your intentions are good. But my powers are unstable right now and I'm not even sure what might happen. I would prefer not to put you in any danger as much as possible."The last part she sighed a bit. "But...I do appreciate the letters. I wasn't even sure you knew how to write.-Raven"Bahaha of course she chide at him a little. XD Well he's never written a letter for her before. Heck he didn't even write one for Terra.
Me: Beast boy scowled at her sarcastic remark. He got out yet another piece of paper -(turns out he found an old empty sketchbook he was gifted but never used).
--- Another letter under her door. Beast boy was getting out of breath at this point XD
"Night wing?!? Okay well at least my name is cooler...."
Raven giggled and then immediately blushed when she realized she was laughing... At one of beast boys jokes?!? Hell had truly frozen over... Raven hadn't noticed it yet, but as she was writing these little letters back and forth, her emotions were stabilized... And her furniture no longer was floating. Hell, even her room began to warm just a tad...
"I think ur just using Ur powers as an excuse not to hang out with me! And yes, I know what happened earlier. Rob-(scratched out) night wing told me earlier. Look, I get that u have to control Ur emotions and stuff. But u were fine before all this trigon stuff happened. Maybe u could use a distraction or two? (winky face smile emoji here)
I do know how to write but I know how to text even better. U can message me via communicator u know.......
U do know how to make a private chat with that thing don't u? "
Raven looked at her communicator which lit up right as she finished reading his message.
In all green text in a private message it read: Sup?
Angel: She texted back then:
I'm aware. Starfire and I private message from time to time. How exactly would you plan on distracting me?
Sending the massage to him then. Putting the ball back in his court. She blushed.
Me: It showed he was typing... Then it showed he wasn't... Then it showed he was. Raven watched in baited breath almost awaiting a response. Why was her heart so giddy all of a sudden? She was technically still a teen at age 18, though the giddiness of young love had not yet crawled its way into her heart.... Til now. Finally his message popped up."okay well I just found out about the private message thing tbh...." he wrote. No wonder he always replied or sent mass texts in group chat...." well I know u like to read. Why not give one of my comic books a try? Or maybe u wanna watch a scary movie?" Raven saw that he was texting her again. Another message popped up."Okay bad idea. Emotions. Bad. Got it."
Angel: She almost rolled her eyes at his text messages. They were kind of amusing. 'You're pretty insistent on me coming into your bedroom " she texted back. Bet he would read that and we'll get embaressed. XD
Me: there was a long pause on her communicator. Then It showed he was typing, followed by a long pause of not typing. Was he embarrassed? Did it go over his head? Raven was tapping her foot nervously on her bed, awaiting a response. Still hadn't noticed the stability in her soul or room...she was that engrossed in this conversation. (Just like any earth teen, amirite?) Finally, then came a response: "I just want you to feel better, Rae." Is all he wrote in that long time. Raven's face instantly turned pink. She had to put her communicator down and cover her eyes for a moment. Meanwhile, Beast boy was in his room worrying sick that she thought he was up to no good. The last thing he wanted to come off as was some kind of creep like that asshole Adonis. But maybe Raven didn't know that about him?! He just wanted her to know he was a gentleman..He was purely doing this to help out a friend and nothing more.

sleepless nights & shiny lights [dickkory]
Blue’s Tumblr Valentines: bbrae, dickkory, ?, ?
Part two in my tumblr valentines series goes to @nightglider124 - happy belated valentines day lovely! Thank you for your endless support + writing sweetness, your incredible fanfictions that never fail to make me grin like an idiot for 24+ hours, and your readiness to talk color-pop when it’s time for a new haul. You’re a wonderfully brilliant friend, and I’m so glad we had the chance to connect <3 You asked for this ages ago, and I’m sorry it took me so long to deliver but here it is: the sequel to seeing sights & pillow fights
Note: tumblr mobile’s shittiness is exceptionally shitty at the moment and I have no idea what this story will look like if you read it there :/ sorry.
sleepless nights & shiny lights
The nights felt longest when they were apart. Colder, lonelier, and more infinite than Dick had ever imagined they could be. He missed his wife and her sunny smile. He wanted to go home.
For the first time in three weeks, she slept soundly, knowing that when morning came, her husband would be snuggled in bed beside her. He always sought her heat, winding his arms around her middle and nuzzling the space between her breasts with ardor. His fingers would be tangled in the golden ends of her hair, curled up at the small of her back.
“I love you,” he’d whisper, dropping kisses that flared on her skin. She would stroke his hair gently and run her hands along his shoulders. Long, languid touches and the smell of his shampoo - her soft moans of appreciation would melt into quickened gasps as his movements became more precise. The best way to rise in the morning was with his mouth against her.
She had missed him. She had missed him so terribly with her whole being, aching and miserable and physically drained without him beside her. She wondered why his absence had taken such a heavy toll on her these last few weeks. It had never been quite so unmanageable in the past. He had left a few days after her last heat cycle - perhaps she was having difficulty adjusting to his absence after nearly a week of constant contact.
Tug.
And then there was that. A strange pull from inside her chest, like her energy, the very essence of X’hal itself, was seeking him.
Tug.
It seemed to happen whenever she yearned for him most. During their frequent facetime calls, when she crawled into bed or roused in the morning, and often when she moped on the couch, waiting for him to come home.
Tug.
It was an insistent, sharp little nudge. She had yet to understand why it was occurring or what it meant. She hoped Richard would help when he returned.
Tug, tug.
That one woke her up.
Tug, tug, tug.
She rubbed her eyes blearily and glanced at the clock on her nightstand. 2:36 AM blinked back at her.
Tug, tug, tug, tug.
There were footsteps on the stairs. Had she missed the quiet thud of the boom-tube in their basement? Her senses were usually far more acute - why were they dulled now?
Tug, tug, tug, tug, tug, tug, tug.
Kory sat up and switched on the light, reaching for the t-shirt she had been snuggling. She drew it to her chest, just in case her home intruder wasn’t her husband.
Tug, tug, tug, tug, tug, tug, tug, tug, tug -
The door flew open with a loud bang, revealing a tall man with dark circles under his eyes, and the biggest grin she had ever seen. Kory’s heart caught in her throat, her eyes growing wide with excitement.
“Richard,” she breathed, scrambling out of bed.
Her husband dropped his suitcase and opened his arms, catching her and immediately drawing her into a scorching kiss.
“I missed you, I missed you,” she chanted, tears pooling in her eyes when he pulled away.
Dick squeezed her waist gently and pressed his lips to her forehead, “I missed you too, Kor. I’m sorry I couldn’t come sooner.”
“You are forgiven,” she murmured, her fingers curling around the collar of his jacket, “once you remove this and come to sleep with me.”
He gave her a wicked grin and straightened his shoulders.
“You could remove it for me.”
Tug, tug, tug, tug, tug, tug, tug.
Kory blushed, smiling sweetly as she tore the jacket from his form. Dick yelped and looked at the tattered remains in dismay.
“Oops,” she giggled, floating out of his reach, “did I do that?”
He laughed - another sound she had sorely missed in his absence - and lunged, tackling her to the bed, his hand tickling her sides relentlessly while she thrashed between the sheets.
“Say you’re sorry, Kor.”
“I - will - not,” she replied defiantly, shrieking when his fingers danced along her ribcage.
Tug, tug, tug, tug, tug.
Dick stilled, ceasing his attack to study her curiously.
“Richard?”
He touched her cheek and sighed, pressing his forehead against hers.
“It’s nothing, babe, I just...felt something strange. And being with you, it’s like it’s filling me, y’know? Like we’re connected.”
She gripped his shoulders and tilted her head upwards, rubbing their noses together.
“I have been feeling it as well. Quite literally - it has been the strangest sensation as if something has been pulling me towards you.”
“Yeah?”
Kory nodded, a dreamy smile gracing her lips.
“I love you, Richard.”
“Love you too, beautiful.”
She watched him unbuckle his belt and fumble out of his jeans, stripping his t-shirt off and tossing it aside. Her eyelids felt heavy, as if they could give way to sleep any moment, and it was all because he was here. It wasn’t a dream. Richard was home.
Kory waited for him to get under the covers, his body quick to tangle with hers beneath their soft duvet. She leaned over and switched off the lamp, running her fingers through his hair while she made herself comfortable.
“Goodnight, beloved,” she whispered, and her heart fluttered when his voice, for the first time in weeks, answered back.
Tug, tug, tug.
Sleep came easily to Kory. It did not for Dick.
Tug, tug, tug, tug, tug, tug.
Not for lack of trying of course. His wife was snuggly and warm and, usually, the perfect sleeping partner. But there was something flashing brightly behind his tightly shut eyes, and he couldn’t figure out what the hell it was.
“Kor.”
“Mmmph.”
“‘ou using your phone right now?”
“Noooo.”
Tug.
“Turn off the light.”
“I did, Richard.”
“No, you didn’t.”
“Mmmph.”
“Babe, I’m serious,” he said, blinking one eye open, “we’re both too tired for anyth - what the fuck.”
He shot up, tearing the covers away from her body.
“Kory, wake up.”
“Richard, I have not slept at all in three weeks, can this not wait for one night?”
“No, it can’t,” he said desperately, “this is too weird.”
She opened her eyes and sat up, shooting her husband a dirty look before following his line of sight to her stomach.
Which was, indeed, glowing. A lot. Bright, electric green waves of energy came off of her skin, sizzling in the air.
She gasped and clapped her hands to her mouth.
“Oh...oh, oh, oh, oh, Richard, we, I, it is - “ Kory waved her hands excitedly, unable to find the words.
Dick stared at her in confusion.
“Words, Kory, words.”
“Baby!” She burst, throwing herself on top of her husband, “I am pregnant, we are having a baby, Richard!”
“Holy shit,” Dick blurted out, a bright grin breaking across his tired face, “Oh my God, are you serious?”
“Like I have never been before,” she mumbled tearfully, burying her face in his chest, “my energy has not been calling to yours, our child has been calling for you. Tamaranean fetuses require a steady supply of energy from both the mother and the father, I cannot believe I did not see it sooner.”
“So that’s it then, right? We’re having a baby? I’m gonna be a dad?”
Kory giggled at the wonderstruck look on her husband’s face.
“We are having a baby, beloved,” she said happily, leaning up to kiss his jaw.
He folded her up into his embrace, his hand never leaving her glowing belly (which they had decided would be the first issue to discuss in the morning, provided they were actually able to fall asleep), stroking her skin until he had memorized the feel of her all over again. She laced their fingers together, heart so full she wondered if it could possibly burst.
Tug.
Their little family was growing. It was all she had ever asked for.
The nights were never long enough when they were together. Dick swears he could lie with her forever, just the two of them, touching and tasting and laughing until the rest of the world disappeared. He loves her, so much that he used to wonder if he would ever be able to love someone as much as he adored his wife.
He wonders no more.

Snow
A bitter chill clung to the wisps of the wind in the night as darkness shrouded the city with the exception of a few blinking lights dotted amongst buildings, houses and skyscrapers. Jump was quietly winding down for yet another winter evening; not quite silent yet but slowly working its way towards the tranquility of midnight.
The tower was mostly unlit, save for a window or two on the higher levels. A dim glow washed over the walls of Ops, creating composure with a volume to match.
His mouth hung open, just a fraction as he trained his deep, forest green eyes on the TV screen before them. The man on screen dressed from head to toe in black garments followed behind the unsuspecting woman, slyly pulling a blade from inside his jacket, ready to strike at any given moment.
Gar tilted his head, attention on the predictable scene of the horror movie that they’d decided to throw on since there were none of the others around to squabble over what to watch.
There was a shift in movement from beside him and he briefly glanced over at his violet haired beauty, her dark eyes cast down at the novel in her hands. Gar quirked a small smile and his chest gave a thud, his heart skipping a beat like it always did when he looked at her; really looked at her and saw Raven for the enchantress she truly was.
Although, he’d likely get a smack for ever uttering something so cheesy but that didn’t stop him from thinking it to himself.
“You’re staring again...” She murmured, raising an eyebrow but not yet removing her focus from the words on the pages of her book.
Gar grinned, his fang poking out from beneath his lip. He nudged her shoulder and leaned in, dropping a kiss to her pale cheek.
Raven refused to let the blush that was threatening to spill onto her china like skin, from spreading like the wildfire it was. She already felt the heat rising but swallowed discreetly, stubbornly quelling the effect that grin had on her.
“I have a pretty sight to stare at.” He told her, waggling his eyebrows in her direction, “Can’t blame me; it’s technically your fault.”
She bit down on the inside of her cheek and really tried to maintain that air of nonchalance that she played so well but knew, deep down, her resolve was slipping.
Slowly, a small smirk appeared against her cupid bow lips, “Idiot.”
He blew a kiss at her, “You love it.”
Raven smiled, a happy gleam in her eyes as she shook her head at her boyfriend’s antics. Gar matched her expression and turned to nuzzle her neck, just enough to draw a deliciously startled gasp from her.
He pulled away, that look of achievement on his face which Raven offered a mock glare to. Gar’s high pitched chuckle met her ears and she shuddered, always questioning how he managed to give her feelings like these.
“This is an okay horror movie, y’know.” Gar commented, folding his arms over his chest as he resumed his watchful eye on the TV.
Raven nodded, finishing the sentence she was on before she closed the book with a soft thud and carefully placed it upon the coffee table. She sat back and instinctively leaned in towards Gar who immediately draped his arm over the back of the sofa, creating the perfect crevice to snuggle up into if she so wished but he never pushed. He gave the option and allowed her to make that choice.
Raven was still an enigma, even after knowing her for so long and even dating her for the past 3 years. However, he knew there was an abundance more than met the eye. Sometimes she craved affection and touch and attention; it was rarer but he couldn’t deny that he loved when she found herself needing that from him. Other times, she would stay distant with a few small smiles thrown his way but in that quiet way of hers that he still loved.
She rested her head on his shoulder, her eyes on the screen now too.
“Is it another typical slasher?” She asked in a monotone,
“No...”
“Oh?”
“Okay, it is but it’s really good!” He squeaked, turning to beam at her.
Raven playfully rolled her eyes but gave him a ghost of a smile before she shook her head. He was such a child sometimes; a happy little puppy, getting excited over the little things but she knew, in her heart of hearts, she wouldn’t trade him for anything.
“If you say so.” Raven mused,
“I do say so but...” He glanced at her, that pleading look that she was almost certain he had co conspired to create with Starfire. They both used it when they really wanted something, “We can still watch Elf after, right?”
She smirked, “I thought you were all for horror?”
“I am but... it’s only a week til Christmas and I wanna get all festive, Rae.” He explained,
One week until Christmas and for once, Gar was completely prepared. He’d bought all his gifts and even wrapped them with Starfire’s help of course; she loved this time of year and always took the responsibility of wrapping presents wherever she was given permission.
His girlfriend’s presents were inevitably what he set out to buy first. He’d bought her the regular stuff he knew she liked and enjoyed receiving; new novels, candles, herbal tea gift sets; all of those types of gifts, she asked for.
But, he’d managed to be sneaky this year and buy her something she wouldn’t be expecting. In recent years, she’d let her hair grow long, past her shoulders to the point she had it as long as Starfire’s had been back when they were merely teenagers.
So, in accordance, he had stumbled across a gothic boutique in central Jump which sold combs. Gar had found a matching pair of obsidian hair combs with small raven detailing on them. They had a slight shimmer to them but not enough where she would be put off; at least he hoped she wouldn’t be.
Upon seeing them, Gar knew he had to have them for her and he was praying that she loved them.
He had some confidence in his soul though; showing them to the surrogate sister of his heart proved comforting. She’d squealed and practically bounced on the spot.
Raven blinked at him but nodded, “We can watch it but if you try making me the spaghetti and maple syrup thing he makes in the movie again, I will burn the disc.”
He flashed that toothy grin of his, “I make no promises. He’s onto something with that recipe.”
She pulled a face of utter disgust, considering the first time he tried to do that which ended with Raven subsequently agreeing and gagging only seconds later. It tasted horrific and she was a terrible liar so she couldn’t even tell him it was good to spare his feelings.
Gar had merely chuckled and kissed her temple, already at the kettle, brewing a nice cup of steaming earl grey to rid her of the bad taste his concoction has left in her mouth.
Still, it was a funny memory to think back on.
Raven smiled quietly to herself as his eyes found the TV screen again, her hand resting just over his heart. She closed her eyes, letting the rhythmic thumping soothe her.
The changeling exhaled in content and leaned back against the couch cushions, enjoying the time being spent alone together. It was nice to live in a house with the team, even after all this time but sometimes, a night alone for just the two of them is all they really craved.
Cyborg and Bee had been down in the garage for a solid few hours, working on upgrades for the T-Car that Vic had insisted his baby needed if she was to survive missions throughout the harsh winter weather.
But, Gar had assumed the ‘working’ had stopped a while ago if the soft jazz music drifting up from the ground floor was anything to go by.
Dick and Starfire were in bed, having managed to get Mar’i down for her bedtime early for once. She was bursting with excitable energy so it made nightly routines difficult when all she wanted to do was float and play with her family and toys.
They’d claimed they were going to sleep but Gar could hazard a guess at what they were more likely doing within their bedroom. They didn’t get much time for themselves as a couple either now, with their little bundle of joy around.
A single moment of peace and quiet for them was utter bliss and Dick and Starfire tried hard to make the most of those moments so the shape shifter couldn’t really blame the parents if they were trying to connect in that way.
As the couple lounged together on the sofa in comfortable silence, a startling gasp from Gar roused Raven from her lethargic position against him. She bolted upright, snapping her head to him,
“What? What’s wrong?” She fretted, her eyes sweeping over him to check.
His face was not one of fear or of panic however; it was one of barely concealed glee.
“Rae! Look!” He hissed, jumping to his feet and scurrying over to the gigantic windows adorning the back wall of the main room. He pointed outside and she had to squint, not having a clue what he was babbling about.
“What?” She asked, pulling her cloak around her as she stood up.
“It’s snowing!” He breathed, his emerald eyes sparkling with exhilaration,
“So?” Raven shrugged,
“Like a lot! It’s gonna settle fast!”
“Again... so what?”
“Raaae!” He whined, rolling his eyes at her not connecting the dots with that beautiful brain of hers.
“What, Gar?”
“We have to go out in it!” He squeaked,
Raven’s eyes went wide and she flinched beneath her cloak, “What?! Are you insane? It’s 2am. We’ll catch our deaths.”
He turned to look at her, smirking as he wriggled his eyebrows, “I’m sure you can heal us before it gets to that, babe.”
Raven blushed at the pet name, as she always tended to but she folded her arms over her chest and rolled her eyes, “Gar-”
“Please, Rae? Snow is my favorite and it’s never like this in the mornings! It’s all slushy or iced over and no fun.”
She watched him, that buzzing aura, similar to that of childlike wonder being the only energy she could currently feel. It washed over her; calmed her emotions and allowed her to be more relaxed in what he was suggesting.
Her silly boy was an oddity and a rarity.
Raven chewed her lip before she shook her head and sighed, “10 minutes on the roof and then we come back inside. Got it?”
“Definitely!” Gar vowed, snatching her hand and pulling her along for the ride as he bounded out of the main room in the direction of the stairs leading to the roof.
When they reached the top of the staircase, Gar threw open the metal door whilst Raven watched with dry amusement as his expression softened into one of pure awe.
As a particularly frozen gust of wind passed by them, Raven tugged her cloak around her body so tight; her fingers went a light shade of white. Garfield, on the other hand, hopped out onto the fresh, powdered snow that lay across the rooftop like a blanket, leaving a trail of sneaker imprints.
He turned around in a circle and stuck his tongue out, trying to taste the falling snowflakes. That boyish grin of his was plastered across his lips, looking extremely satisfied each time he heard the snow crunch beneath his own feet.
“Look at all the snow, Rae!” He chirped, crouching down to leave an indent of his hand print in the bed of snow.
“Mhm. It’s great. And cold. Can we go back inside now?” She asked, tonelessly,
Gar rolled his eyes at her before he jogged back to where she still stood in the doorway. He smirked and wriggled his fingers at her,
“C’mon… y’know you want to.”
She pulled a face, “I really don’t.”
“Please? Just for a while and then we’ll go inside. I promise.” He glanced at his wrist to mimic a watch, “You said 10 minutes, remember?”
“Gar, it’s freezing…” She muttered, kicking some snow away from the door.
“I can warm you up.” He replied in a smooth guy voice,
She gave him a look but couldn’t help the corners of her lips quirking upwards into a smile.
Gar beamed and gently tugged on her hand, “That’s my Rae.”
She sighed and followed him out onto the roof, glancing down at her boots that were already covered with snow. Raven inwardly cursed at the things she did for this boy of hers; 2am and here she was, standing on the roof of the tower with him, just to play in the snow.
“Why are you so amazed by this, Gar?” She wondered aloud as she noticed him bent over and rolling up the body of a snowman, “You’ve seen snow plenty of times.”
“I know…” He chuckled, “And I always get this excited; just none of you ever see it. I know the guys would make fun if they did but… this time of year… I don’t know… acting like a kid and getting excited over the little things… it just seems right, y’know?”
Raven watched him, feeling the drop in his euphoria as he continued talking.
“I know it’s stupid but… well, none of us really had a normal childhood so I guess… I kinda try to make up for it now, like freaking out over snow… I know I probably don’t- Oof!” He was cut off as a snowball hit him on the shoulder, the snow splattering over the rest of his arm, the already melted thing dribbling down his skin.
He flinched, completely off guard and spun around to see his smirking empath, already holding another snowball encased in her magic. She raised an eyebrow, “Well, we now have 8 minutes. I suppose you better make the most of it.”
A slow, wide grin spread over his lips and he furrowed his eyebrows in determination, “Aw, you’re so going down, babe!”
“Uh huh. We’ll see.” She remarked, letting the snowball fly as he ducked to start building up his own artillery.
They continued the snow assault on one another, quiet laughter bubbling up into the night sky as they chased each other across the frosted roof. Raven didn’t even notice that they had been out there for 30 minutes rather than her stern 10 until Gar sniffled and sneezed several times in a row.
Pausing, she dropped her snowball to the ground and frowned at him with worry shining in her eyes. He snuffed and rubbed his nose as she stalked closer to him.
He offered her a smile and shrugged, “I’m good-”
“No you’re not.”
“Rae, I swear; I’m fine!” He squeaked, not wanting to end their fun in the snow; he loved so much when she allowed herself to be free and just enjoy herself, no matter how silly or kid like the activity was.
She allowed her hand to glow a periwinkle blue and pressed it to his chest, silencing him.
Raven clicked her tongue and her brows knitted together, “You’re getting sick.”
“Rae-“
“You should have grabbed a coat.”
He laughed as she grabbed his shoulders and turned him towards the door, “Raven-“
“C’mon… we’ve been out here way longer than 10 minutes anyway.” She told him,
Gar clicked his fingers, “Aww, I hoped you wouldn’t notice.” He mumbled, whilst Raven rolled her eyes at him and led him down the stairs, closing the roof door behind her.
The changeling continued to sniffle and scrub at his red tipped nose as they made their way back down into the main room. As they crossed the threshold, they froze at the sight of another person in the kitchen.
“What’re you guys doing?” Dick asked, his blue eyes narrowed at them in utter bewilderment,
He stood by the counter wearing a pair of sweats and a white t-shirt with a glass of water in hand.
“Uh…” Raven thought for an answer but came up empty so Gar saved them with the truth.
Taking her hand in his own, Gar grinned at their friend and leader, “It snowed, dude!”
Dick briefly glanced over at the windows, noticing the thick snowflakes falling and sticking to the glass before melting and rolling down the panes.
“Oh yeah… so it has…” He noted, “So, you were playing in the snow?”
Gar rubbed the back of his head, “Yeah!”
Dick chuckled and took a sip of water, shaking his head at their antics. Gar shuffled his feet and looked like he was about to brush it aside and make a joke out of himself.
Raven, however, was quicker to comment, “It’s... actually really fun.”
The dark haired vigilante raised an eyebrow at her whilst Gar looked incredulously at her; not believing she had actually said that.
“I thought you hated the snow, Raven.” Dick pointed out,
She shrugged and gazed at Gar, “It helps you to feel calm and carefree; like being a kid again.”
The shape shifter felt a warmth spread across his chest where his heart lay, his stomach fluttering and he was reminded of one of the many reasons he fell in love with Raven.
She liked to tease and make fun of him but when she knew it was something close to his heart or something that ran deeper, she made a point of supporting him, no matter how minor a thing it was.
“Hm... never really looked at it that way.” Dick replied, stifling a yawn,
Gar smiled and gently pressed his lips to Raven’s cheek, making her blush a faint pink.
“Actually, Dick... I was hoping that maybe tomorrow... I could take Mar’i out to play in the snow? Y’know since... she hasn’t really experienced it yet... I thought she might be all amazed over it.”
Dick paused and pulled his drink away from his lips, considering before he nodded and smiled softly at his friend, “Sure, Gar.” He paused and eyed the green jokester’s lack of outerwear, “Just... make sure she is warm. She’s too little to be going out there without a coat on.”
Gar chuckled sheepishly whilst Raven furrowed her eyebrows, “Too little? You know she’s temperature resilient like Star, right?”
“Obviously but I still don’t like chancing her getting cold.” Dick retorted, in his ‘dad’ voice,
Grinning, Gar pouted, “Aw, papa Dick so worried.”
Dick rolled his eyes and put his now empty glass back into the basin on the counter, “Obviously. She’s my daughter, after all.”
Raven quirked a tiny smile, “Mhm... we know.”
Their leader shook his head and passed them, kissing Raven’s forehead and high fiving Gar as he moved, “Night guys. See you in the morning.”
“Night, Dick.” The couple replied in unison,
Gar watched Raven out of the corner of his eye for a long moment before he gently took her hands in his,
“Thanks for that, Rae.” He murmured,
“Thanks for what?” She asked, her eyes flicking from his jade ones to his lips,
“Being onside with the child, carefree thing...”
She gifted him with one of her rare, serene and signature Raven smiles,
“Snow has never really been important to me... but if it’s important to you...” She trailed off, lifting her chin slightly more,
Gar smirked and leaned down, brushing his nose against hers before pressing his forehead to hers. Raven closed her eyes and exhaled calmly before her eyes snapped open again,
“If you sneeze on me right now-” She was cut off by Gar’s throaty chuckle,
“Guess you better kiss me before that happens then, huh?”
“Why-”
He wrinkled his nose, “Uh oh, I feel a tickle-”
Instantly, he was silenced as Raven pressed her lips to his, allowing them to mold perfectly with Gar’s. Heat sparked through them, shooting along nerve endings and electrifying the calmness between them.
His hands found her waist whilst her arms wrapped around his neck, her fingertips brushing against the line of Gar’s jaw and eliciting fire in the wake of where she touched.
Gar pulled back and sucked in a gasp, that flicker of excitement in his eyes. Raven smiled and leaned her forehead against his once again,
“I’m still cold.” She muttered,
“Oh-“
“So... why not follow through with that comment earlier about warming me up?” She breathed, her cheeks flushing red with her suggestion.
Gar blinked at her for a moment before he broke into a wide grin, “I can do that!” He squeaked, already taking her by the hand and leading her out of the main room.
As they moved, Gar realized that as much fun as the snow outside was, being inside with Raven was where he wanted to be. Always.

BBRAE Week 2018 Day 4: It’s 3AM
Beast Boy opened his eyes, something he was pleasantly surprised by. After all, when somebody loses consciousness due to blood loss in an alley, they don’t exactly expect to wake up. He was in a lot of pain, which made sense, all things considered. But he was familiar with pain; on a scale that included his time with Doctor Register, this rated as a five out of ten, six when he moved too suddenly.
“Dude,” He moaned to nobody in particular. “What happened?”
“Nothin’ good, Grass Stain.” Vic answered, laying a hand on his shoulder. “Blood loss, fractures, burns… you’re lucky to be alive.” Beast Boy looked around the dark infirmary, seeing Raven in the bed next to his.
“Is Raven okay?” He asked the instant he saw her. “She’s not hurt, is she?”
“Is Raven- Is Raven okay?!” Victor spluttered incredulously. “You have a brush with death and you’re worried about her?” He shook his head, smiling to himself. “She’s fine man; a couple bruises and a bad case of exhaustion.” He smiled reassuringly. “She just needs a little rest, B.”
“Healing me must’ve taken everything she had.” Beast Boy murmured. “She said she wouldn’t let me die.” Suddenly, a spectre of recollection reared its ugly head. “Oh no…” He groaned.
“What’s wrong, man?” His best friend asked, concern, possibly even panic, in his voice.
“I can’t believe I told her all that!” The changeling whimpered.
“Told who?” Vic enquired, sounding equal parts worried and annoyed.
“Raven!” Beast Boy exclaimed.
“...Well damn, now I’m just curious.” Victor shrugged. “So what’d you tell her, Grass Stain?”
“I told her that I love her.” He groaned.
“Okay, Am I missing something?” Victor asked after a moment of confused silence. “Because I don’t see what the problem is.”
“She’s gonna freak out when she wakes up!” Beast Boy exclaimed angrily. “I can’t believe I just sprang it on her like that!”
“Seriously, B?” Victor scoffed. “You’re worried that your girlfriend, the empath might not have been ready for you to use the ‘L’ word?”
“She probably wasn’t ready for me to start talking about marrying her!” Beast Boy squealed.
“You’re not wrong.” Raven deadpanned.
“Raven?!” Gar squeaked “You’re awake?”
“And that’s my cue to leave.” Vic muttered, leaving slightly faster than Gar felt was necessary.
“Did he seriously just bail on you?” Raven asked.
“Yep, he bailed.” Gar confirmed.
“Some friend he is.” Raven muttered shaking her head. “So… are you okay?”
“Not too bad,” Gar shrugged, wincing as he did so. “I’m not doing too great, but I’ll live. You okay?”
“Just tired.” Raven replied simply. “You took my beating for me, remember?”
“Vaguely.” Gar chuckled.
“Well… I guess we’d better address the elephant in the room.”
“I can’t shapeshift until I’ve healed properly,” Gar stated bluntly. “Otherwise I’d be an elephant right now.”
“Of course you would,” Raven rolled her eyes. “Because Azar forbid you actually take this seriously.”
“You want serious?” Gar asked, taking his girlfriend’s words as a challenge. “Fine, let’s get serious. We’re in the infirmary, and Vic’s probably eavesdropping, but who cares?”
“If he is, he’ll regret it.” Raven replied, a warning for their friend. After a moment, they heard the sound of an extremely heavy man running away on feet made of metal. “Victor’s gone, and so is your excuse to avoid awkward conversations.”
“Fine,” Gar groaned; he really wasn’t ready for this conversation. “What’s first?”
“You nearly died.” Raven said flatly. “You nearly got yourself killed being an overly sentimental idiot.”
“They said they were demon hunters!” “Gar responded, trying his best not to let his irritation show. “They landed a hit on you, and I went kind of nuts, okay? It wasn’t a conscious decision.”
“It was one sloppy punch.” Raven pointed out. “They weren’t exactly cutting me to ribbons.”
“My instincts didn’t seem to care.” Gar shrugged. “And honestly, I agree with them.”
“It was stupid and reckless!” Raven snapped.
“And burning yourself out to heal me wasn’t?” He shot back. “Besides, we both know that isn’t the real issue here.”
“You’re right,” Raven agreed. “It’s not. When you were… injured, you said that you loved me.” She blushed faintly; god, he loved that blush. It was something that the rest of the world didn’t get to see, a moment of openness, a reminder that, around him, she felt comfortable letting her guard down almost completely. “And, well… did you mean it?”
“Can’t you tell?” Gar asked, genuinely confused. “You’re an empath, after all.”
“I need to hear you say it.” Raven said, almost pleading.
“I meant every word of it.” Gar replied simply. “I love you, and I’ll keep saying it as many times as you want me to.”
“And the other thing?” Raven asked, her voice hopeful and her face terrified. “Did you mean that too?”
“...Screw it.” Gar shrugged. “I wish I could’ve gotten this right, but hey, why start now, am I right?” He hoisted himself off of the infirmary bed, wincing as various body parts lodged complaints. “No time like the present.” He felt the wound in his thigh reopen as he lowered himself to one knee. “Raven, I love you with all my heart. Will you marry me?” At first she was silent, and Gar felt himself beginning to worry that he might have made a mistake.
“Yes.” She whispered. “Yes!” She threw her arms around him. “I love you too, so much it feels like I’m going crazy.” She kissed him, soft and chaste. “Of course I’ll marry you.” Another kiss, considerably less innocent. “And if you weren’t still injured, I’d rip that hospital gown right off of you and--”
“Rae, as much as I’d love to hear the end of that sentence,” Beast Boy reluctantly interrupted his fiancee (fiancee!). “We’ve got an audience.” He pointed to the door, where Kori, Dick and Victor stood.
“Oh no,” Their leader smirked. “Don’t let us stop you. Just pretend we’re not here.”
“Dude, it’s 3 AM!” Beast Boy exclaimed. “Why are you guys even awake?”
“I asked Vic to tell me when you guys were awake.” Dick replied.
“And I was awoken due to my being asleep beside boyfriend Richard after a vigorous session of lovemaking!” Kori offered cheerfully, causing Dick to blush to the roots of his hair. Kori had once told Beast Boy in confidence that she knew how much it flustered Dick when she was candid about the physical side of their relationship, which was why she was so candid about it in the first place.
“I was going to ask you for information on your attackers, but the debriefing can wait until morning.” Nightwing said, clearly eager to change the subject.
“It sounds to me like you already got some debriefing done while we were out cold.” Beast Boy snickered.
“And it sounds to me,” Victor interjected. “Like Raven was planning to do a little debriefing of her own.” Beast Boy could feel himself blushing.
“Oh, what glorious news!” Kori exclaimed, flying in and sweeping Beast Boy into a hug like a hydraulic press.
“Star,” Raven said levelly. “If you don’t mind, I’d rather you didn’t suffocate my fiancee.”
“Oh!” Starfire released him. “My apologies friend Garfield, I did not mean to cause you harm!”
“It’s cool.” Beast Boy croaked.
“I guess congratulations are in order.” Dick began, smiling earnestly. “We’re all happy for you.”
“You won’t be happy for long,” Beast Boy snickered. “After all, you’ve got a lot of explaining to do when Star starts to wonder why We got engaged before you did.” And just like that, their fearless leader went white as a sheet.
“I, uhh… I should go.” Dick stammered nervously. “You guys need your rest.” And with that, he bolted, with Kori in hot pursuit.
“Two down,” Beast Boy smirked. “One to go.”
“You ain’t shiftin’ me that easy, Grass Stain,” Victor grinned. “Unlike Bird Boy, I don’t turn tail and run from unexpected emotional intimacy.”
“Vic,” Raven began, her tone patient. “You know I care about you.”
“Same to you, Rae,” Victor smiled warmly. “You’re like my little sister.”
“I know,” Raven nodded. “I’m counting on it. Because if you don’t give us some privacy until morning, I’ll begin to describe Garfield and my sex life.” She sounded deadly serious. “In graphic detail.”
“You wouldn’t dare,” Victor replied, narrowing his eyes. “That’d be getting way too personal, and you don’t do personal.”
“Gar does,” Raven replied simply. “And I’m giving him permission to do so effective immediately.”
Beast Boy grinned evilly as his best friend turned to face him, fear in his eyes. “You know I’ll do it.”
“You win, you win!” Vic shouted in a panic, backing out the door.
“We’re way too good at messing with them.” Gar noted.
“Absolutely.” Raven agreed. “This sort of power is sure to corrupt us.”
“You sure it hasn’t already done that?” Gar shot back.
“You might have a point.” She smirked. “So…”
“So…” Gar chuckled. “What now?”
“I’ll be blunt;” Raven replied. “I’m thinking that I’d prefer a long engagement.”
“Works for me,” Gar shrugged, trying and failing to keep a huge, giddy grin off of his face. “I wouldn’t want you to rush into anything.”
“And I’ll want to see this ring you’ve ‘already picked out’ before you buy it.” She stated plainly.
“Makes sense.” Gar nodded. “After all, you’ll be the one wearing it.”
“I suppose we’ll have to tell Titans East and all the others.” Raven said, seemingly going through an internal checklist.”
“Heck, tell the villains while we’re at it.” Gar joked.
“But for now,” Raven said. “I say we get some sleep in a bed that’s actually comfortable. Mine, for example.”
“It’s like you read my mind.” Gar grinned, throwing one arm over her shoulder.
“And just to be clear,” Raven said, her tone carrying the merest hint of mischief. “I retain the right to act on my previously-stated intentions vis a vis that hospital gown.”
“Thank god I heal so fast.”

BBRAE Week 2018 Day 1 Can’t help falling in love with you
“Azarath Metrion Zinthos, Azarath Metrion Zinthos, Azarath Metrion Zinthos…” Raven had been meditating for forty-five minutes, and thus far it had been unproductive to say the least. Her emotions refused to settle, feeding her frustration, thus turning the next few minutes into a struggle just to get back to square one. Even more frustrating was that she knew the reason for her sudden emotional uproar. It was green with pointy ears, fangs, and a love of terrible puns.
Now, this wasn’t the first time Beast Boy had sent her emotions out of balance, but it was still a new experience. She was used to being angry with him, although in the three and a half years since she’d dealt with Trigon, that had become a less frequent state of affairs. She was also used to worrying about him, a fact that she’d only admit to when things with him got bad, something which happened more frequently as she learned more about him and came to understand the depths of pain he hid behind his smiling facade. But despite the curious sensation of heat she felt when she thought about his big cheesy grin, she knew she wasn’t angry. And even though her heart sped up in a burst of adrenaline whenever she recalled those moments when he let the mask slip and showed her what lay underneath, she knew she wasn’t worried.
No, she knew what it was, and that was what bothered her the most. As she gave up on meditation for the time being, she cast her mind back to her first meeting with Aqualad, and knew that she’d felt strangely warm back then. And as she headed to the kitchen, pinning her hopes of achieving some semblance of calm on a cup of herbal tea, she recalled the way her heart had raced when Malchior had charmed her. “I can’t believe it,” She groaned. “I’ve got a crush on Beast Boy.” Shaking her head at the absurdity of her situation, strolled out of the hall, stopping only when she heard a voice coming from the common room.
“And it’s just not fair, y’know? Like, what am I meant to do now?” Raven froze in place as she recognised the voice coming from the common room. Because of course it was Beast Boy. “I mean, I get that she’s way out of my league, but c’mon dude! I can’t just turn my feelings off!” And just like that, all Raven felt was cold and empty, like she’d been cored with an icicle.
“He has feelings for someone else…” She whispered to herself, blinking back tears that she’d never admit existed, even to herself.
“Like, she’s smart, she’s funny in her own way, she’s beautiful, and I’m basically just green and funny-looking.” Every word out of Beast boy’s mouth made her hurt just a little more, but she listened anyway.
“And rich.” A new voice chipped in. It was familiar, but Raven couldn’t quite place it.
“Come on Eddie,” Beast boy responded. “She’s way too classy for something like that to help me.”
“Fair enough,” The voice that Raven now knew to be Kid Devil’s conceded. “I’m just saying, you’ve got some stuff going for you.”
“I’m with Eddie.” A third voice that sounded like Speedy’s interjected. “You’re a good man, Gar. I know that better than most.” Raven knew that Beast Boy had helped Speedy overcome his heroin addiction, and that he also liked to downplay his part in doing so.
“If anyone should be pissing and moaning, it’s me.” Kid Devil (Raven usually felt more comfortable referring to her friends by their superhero aliases, real names were too intimate) said. “No way in hell is Rose ever gonna waste her time with a loser like me. What does a guy like me have to offer a confident, sexy badass like her?” He sighed. “That’s what out of your league looks like.” Although Raven was sympathetic towards Kid Devil, at that moment she wished he’d just keep his mouth shut and let Beast Boy talk some more so she could work out who his mystery girl was and what made her so special.
“Dude, you look like a cheap romance novel banged a heavy metal album!” Beast Boy quipped, forcing Raven to choke back laughter (he was funny when he just let it happen). “Plus you can raise your body temperature super high, and you’re a total softy. There’s no way you’re not ticking at least one box in Ravager’s big book of kinks!”
“Oh, and you think you’re any different, mister fangs and occasionally claws?” Speedy chuckled. “You’re fetish fuel same as Eddie.” Raven blushed faintly as she found herself agreeing with Speedy; Beast Boy’s fangs were just… damn.
“Great, just what every guy wants to hear.” Beast Boy muttered.
“If anyone’s got it bad, it’s me.” Speedy continued. “I mean, come on! Donna’s a demigod or something, and I’m a former addict single father who’s good with a bow. Pipe. Dream.”
“At least people don’t look at you like you’re a freak!” Beast Boy shot back, unknowingly causing Raven’s heart to break, just a little.
“Yeah!” Kid Devil yelled his assent. “You’ve got it easy!” For a few painfully awkward moments, silence reigned.
“So…” Beast Boy started in his up-to-no-good voice. “We all know which girl is the best looking, right?”
“If you’re trying to start an argument, it’s not going to work.” Speedy replied simply.
“How about this then?” Eddie offered. “Let’s go feature by feature.”
“Fine by me.” Beast Boy answered. “Roy?”
“...Fine.” Speedy grudgingly acquiesced. “Donna has the best bone structure, and I’m ready to die on that hill.”
“I’ll give you that one,” Kid Devil conceded. “But Rose definitely has the best hair; long, silky and platinum blonde, unbeatable. Gar?” This was it, she’d finally learn who the heck Beast Boy was so infatuated with.
“Eyes.” He answered plainly. “They’re dark, they’re mysterious, don’t even try to fight me on this one.” Damn it! So close, and yet so far. “Now, are we gonna keep to the classy stuff, or are we gonna make this interesting?”
“Rose has the best… y’know.” Kid Devil muttered, sounding embarrassed.
“Pervert.” Speedy deadpanned. “But if we’re going south of the neck, then I’m going shoulders, arms, belly, just the whole ‘warrior woman’ physique for Donna. Dick definitely has the right idea there with Kori.”
“Well, I’d say we now know more about Roy’s fetishes than we would have liked.” Beast Boy chuckled. “And you guy already know what I’m gonna say.”
“Legs.” All three men said as one. And yet again, Raven was denied the information she craved.
“Well, I guess that means they’re tied.” Kid Devil said. “They’re all equally beautiful.”
“But there’s one more big question guys…” Beast Boy said, sounding pensive. “Who has the best smile?”
“Donna.” Speedy answered immediately, sounding utterly certain. “Bright, reassuring, full of affection.”
“Have you seen Rose smile?!” Kid Devil half-shouted, sounding outraged. “Cool, mischievous, and dead sexy.”
“You’re both way off.” Beast Boy said in an authoritative tone. “Raven’s smile is the the best, no contest.” And just like that, the cold, empty feeling was gone, and Raven felt like she’d had her blood replaced by scalding hot coffee.
“How would you even know?” Speedy quipped. “Raven never smiles.”
“Dude! That’s what makes it so special!” Garfield (okay, maybe real names weren’t always too intimate) exclaimed. “You gotta work for it, but when she smiles, it’s like the sun peeking through on a cloudy day. I could be having the worst day ever, but if I get to see that smile, it’s like everything’s okay.”
“Garfield Logan, ladies and gentleman.” Kid Devil said, sounding like a circus ringleader. “Shape-shifting, crime-fighting, and now poetry! Is there anything this young man can’t do?”
“I can’t get the girl.” Gar sighed. “Never have, never will.”
“Yeah, well there’s a lot of that going around.” Speedy muttered.
“Hey man, don’t take this the wrong way but… why Raven?” Kid Devil asked, unknowingly giving voice to Raven’s thoughts. “I mean, I get that she’s smart, witty, good looking; but what else? Those qualities aren’t exactly unique.”
“She’s kind.” Gar stated simply. “She tries to hide it, but she is.”
“Rose is the same.” Kid Devil murmured.
“She’s the bravest person I know.” Gar said. “She fought her destiny and won; I can’t even imagine doing something like that.” Hearing Gar sing her praises left Raven feeling a little light-headed; if she wasn’t careful, she’d get addicted. “What can I say? She’s Raven. One of a kind.”
“Fair enough.” Speedy replied. There was another moment of silence, which Raven used as an opportunity to collect her thoughts. She was the girl? The one Gar was infatuated with? She couldn’t quite believe it. What was she going to do? Tell him how she felt? It was the logical answer, but the idea scared her witless.
“Wise men say only fools rush in, but I can't help falling in love with you...” Gar began to sing, breaking the silence.
“Shall I stay?” Kid Devil picked up the tune.
“Would it be a sin...” Speedy crooned.
“If I can't help falling in love with you?” Raven finished, stepping into the room.
“R-raven?!” Gar squeaked, looking like a deer in the headlights. “You heard that?”
“I did.” She growled. “Speedy! Kid Devil!” She snapped. “Out!”
“Yes ma’am!” They answered in unison, bolting out of the room.
“Ad as for you…” She snarled, closing in on a frightened-looking Gar… and pulling him into a hug.
“Uh… Raven?” Gar sounded confused. “Not that I mind, but why are you hugging me?”
“Because I heard how you feel about me,” She answered simply. “And I’m too classy to just start making out with you before we even start dating.”
“Y-you mean…?” Gar trailed off, his question sounding more like a prayer.
“Yes Gar, I mean ‘awkwardly trail off into silence’.” She answered sarcastically. “Now are you going to ask stupid questions, or are you going to hug me back?”
“Oh, definitely option two!” He exclaimed, wrapping his arms around her. For a moment, they were silent, just enjoying each other’s warmth, but then… “Okay guys, I can smell you out there! You might as well just come on in.” Speedy and Kid Devil awkwardly filed in.
“We were just, uh…” Kid Devil trailed off, apparently unable to think of a decent excuse.
“Worried about you, man!” Speedy finished smoothly. “Raven looked pissed, so we wanted to make sure she didn’t hurt you or anything.”
Raven sighed. “Roy, Donna’s had a thing for you for at least a year. She hates Cheshire in a big way for having a kid with you, although she loves Lian, and hates her even more for abandoning you.” The way Speedy’s face lit up at this revelation made Raven wish she had a camera handy. “And Eddie, Rose once told me that if you ever change your costume to include a shirt, she thinks she might go back to being a villain, just so she can cut it off of you.” Kid Devil’s face was similarly illuminated. “As soon as you leave this room, I’ll send them a message telling them what you said about them. I leave the rest up to you.” She doubted that Kid Flash could have left any faster. “Now, she muttered. “Where were we?”
“Right about here.” Gar grinned, pulling her into his arms.
“It won’t be easy,” She said after a minute. “Dating me, I mean.”
“If I wanted easy,” Gar replied. “I wouldn’t be in this line of work. What I want is you, no matter what it takes.”
“... So, you really like my legs that much?”

BBRae College AU
School always felt so pointless to Garfield Logan. He never learned anything sitting in a classroom. All his knowledge came from life experience. Spending his young life on the streets taught him all he needed to know, at least that’s what he told himself. His adoptive parents had different ideas. Which is what landed him a seat in another classroom, for another two years of learning, at this rink-a-dink community college. Every cloud has a silver lining, though, and his just happened to be sitting in the next row in front of him.
“I wonder what her name is?” He thought to himself, as he started off into her direction with a dreamy look in his emerald eyes. He had spent the last 70 minutes admiring her from his seat in the back. If she noticed, she didn’t show it. She always had her head facing straight ahead or down at her notepad. He assumed she was one of those honor students, who actually gave a damn what their grades were. Which was kind of cute, in an endearing type of way.
While the professor was jabbering on about cellar division, Garfield spent the time ogling the young woman’s long raven-colored hair. It looked clean and soft, even from his distance. The way she sat right under a light made it practically shine at him, making it all the more difficult to avoid the temptation of running his fingers through the silky strands.
The loose black shirt she wore exposed her pale shoulders. They were slender and the skin looked as soft as her hair. Images of his lips gently sucking on the smooth skin flashed in his mind, making a light blush dust his tanned cheeks. He adjusted himself his chair, his pants suddenly feeling tight and uncomfortable.
“Probably should hold those thoughts for after the first date.” He joked to himself.
“That will be all for today everybody. Have a nice day!” The professor’s kind voice broke the young man from his thoughts. The students around him were already collecting their belongings and heading for the door.
Garfield, having not have pulled anything out in the first place, grabbed his book bag and slung it over his shoulder as he followed behind everyone else. Once he was through the exit, he scanned the hallway for her petite frame, but felt disheartened when the dark-haired beauty was nowhere to be found.
“Huh, I wonder where she ran off to?”
Right on cue, his stomach let out a loud rubble. Blushing in embarrassment of the attention his hungry stomach was receiving, Garfield scampered down the hall, in the direction of the campus cafeteria.
The cafeteria was surprisingly small for a college, but then again, not many people took the time to eat here. Most only came to pick up a quick snack before their next class, while the few that sat and ate were either faculty or student groups. As Garfield entered the open room, he was instantly met with the causal chatter of those around him and the smells of the kitchen. He took a deep breath through his nose, and almost gagged at the scent that filled his nostrils.
Chicken. No good. He thought to himself. He felt his stomach let out another growl in protest to his pickiness. Relax stomach. The café will have something for us.
The lanky man strolled through the cafeteria, passing up the line and making his way to a tiny café hidden away on the other side of the lunchroom. The café was a privately-owned operation, and was brought in as an alternative to the regular school meals. It was the best place to grab a quick snack or a cup coffee. The place itself was the perfect college hang-out, with just the right amount of lighting, a calm atmosphere, comfortable seating and plenty of outlets to charge your phone or laptop. Due to its attractive features and small space, it made this place usually packed. Luckily, he had come during a slow time, so there were only a few other people sitting inside. As he took in his new surroundings he caught sight of a familiar looking beanie.
He quickly looked away and approached the counter to place his order.
“Hi! One eggless egg salad sandwich with a chocolate chip cookie and a coke.” He ordered effortlessly, and as the boy behind the counter turned to prepare his meal, his mind kept racing back to the girl sitting behind him. She was here, in the café, by herself. If she was here, then she either was waiting for someone or waiting for another class. He hoped it was the latter. That would mean he could make his move. Turning around casually he leaned back on the counter, his bookbag pressing against the edge and his elbows pressed on the smooth surface. Doing his best to be discreet, he allowed his eyes to traveling around the room, stopping for only a few seconds at a time on the petite female sitting off to the side, ignoring the world around her. She had on a pair of Bluetooth headphones, and calmly nodded her head to the music that played through it. She had her nose in a book, and a cup of hot tea laying on the coffee table beside her. Normally, Gar would not have paid this type of girl a second look, but there was something about this one that just drew him to her, like a moth to a flame.
“Here you go, Sir.” The employee interrupted Garfield’s thoughts. He stood back up and faced the other man, who had his food all laid out on the counter and was already typing in the price on each item. “That will be $8.56.”
Gar pulled out his wallet from his jean pocket and slid out his debit card. He stuck the card into the little machine by the man’s tablet-register. He punched in his security code and yanked the card back out after the machine began to beep. After putting the card back in its place, he stuffed the wallet back in his pocket. With a friendly nod and a thank you, the blonde gathered his food and drink and carried it all towards the spot she was sitting at. She had made herself cozy in one of the large, cushiony chairs, so he decided to claim the open one beside her. When he plopped down in the comfortable chair, the female glanced up from her book. He was not quite sure what he had expected, but it certainly was not the icy glare of her blue eyes. She was not happy at the slight interruption, but instead of moving and letting her be, he simply sat his food down on the table in front of them and took a sip of his coke.
He glanced over at her, only to be met with her wicked scowl. He was preparing himself for when she told him to get lost, but the words never came. Instead, she pulled her attention back to her book, shifted in her seat so that her back was facing toward him. His lips twitched into an amused grin as he sat his drink down and moved on to his sandwich. He wrapped his calloused hands around the bread and lifted the sandwich up to his waiting lips. As his sharp teeth sunk into the chunky goodness, a glob of the yellow mix fell out of the bottom and dropped onto his lap with a “splat.” Before he could curse under his breath, the sound of a snort made him look over to the woman sitting beside him. Though she still regarded him with disdain, he could still make out the slight sparkle of amusement in her eyes.
He lifted an eyebrow at her with mock irritation. “Oh, you think that’s funny?”
She stiffened at his comment, and he thought he had been a tad too rough, but then she retorted right back him. “A grown man spilling food on himself? Hilarious.”
He blinked at her, caught off guard by her comment. It was the first time he had heard her speak, and so far, he liked what he heard. “If you that’s funny, you should see my friend Vic eat a sloppy joe. That will have you rolling on the floor.” He joked with a laugh, but the woman showed no other sign of enjoyment, except for that twinkle in her eyes. Her face just remained stoic and unfaltering. It was slightly disturbing. She stared at him for a moment, as if she were studying him, making him squirm uneasily. After a moment, however, she let out a quiet “hm,” before returning to her book.
He watched her read for a moment, then he used a napkin to wipe the clump off his jeans, before he resumed his eating. A comfortable silence fell between the two, but it did not last for long. Once Gar had finished his meal, he reached for the cookie he had saved for dessert. The cookie was obviously homemade, which made it all the more appetizing. Grabbing it, he unwrapped it from the plastic casing, then broke it half, right down the middle.
Turning back to the girl with the book, he stretched out his hand, one half on the cookie in his palm. “Would you like some?” he offered with a large, boyish smile. His voice broke her concentration, and he could see the flash of anger spread across her features, but when she caught sight of his peace offering, her glare softened slightly. She stared at the crumbled half like it was a foreign object, unsure of how she should react.
“What’s the matter? Don’t like chocolate chip?” He asked, his glowing smile dimming at the prospect.
“No, my apologizes.” She mumbled as she looked away with embarrassment. “I am not used to strangers offering me free food.”
Gar chuckled at her innocence. “Hey, I don’t blame ya for being cautious, but I promise this is just a friendly cookie.”
With one more inspection of the substance in his outstretched hand, she must have determined his offer to be sincere, because tentatively, she reached over took the delicate half away from him. She brought it up to her black-painted lips and took a small, careful bite. After being sure she was enjoying her new treat, Gar too munched on his own half with pleasure.
“So,” He said in between bites. “Do you have a name?”
She glanced away from her cookie to acknowledge him for a moment. Her deep blue eyes bore down into his dark forest-green eyes, as if she were sizing him up. Finally, she looked away and gave him a small nod.
“Yes, I have a name.” She deadpanned.
“Okay, you gonna tell me what it is or leave me in suspense?” He teased.
“I think I prefer suspense.” She said sarcastically, as she took another bite of her pastry.
The blonde boy smirked at her witty response. “Okay fine. I’ll let you my name then. Garfield Logan, but you can call me Gar.” He added kindly, tossing the last bite into his mouth.
“I think I would rather stick to Garfield.” She said, as she took the final bite of her cookie. Gar grimaced at the sound of his name.
“Well I rather you didn’t. I hate my full name.” He said with distain.
Once again, she looked at him curiously. “And why is that?”
“Makes me sound like an old guy.” He explained, to which only repeated that odd sound.
“Hm.”
Before he could say more, a vibration coming from the table interrupted them.
“I have to go. Thank you for the cookie.” She said as she scooped up the phone and her book and put both in her bag that had been laying be her feet on the floor.
“Don’t mention it!” He winked at her. A slight blush dusted her pale cheeks, but she looked away before he could have a good look at it. As she stood up to leave, and decided now would be a good of time as any to make his move. “Hey before you go, do you think I could have your number?” He popped the question smoothly. She froze in place for a minute, then looked him dead in the eye.
“No.” She said forcefully, which to him was very odd. His cocky grin fell to a frown and his shoulders slumped at the dejection. “But you can have my name.” She told him, lifting his spirits a little more. “It’s Rachael, Rachael Roth. And for the record, I tend to like older guys, Garfield. Goodbye now.” She gave him a curt nod, before speeding out of the café. Garfield’s green stare followed her out, and he could not look away.
“Whoa.” Was all he could say, after that interesting exchange.

We have a BBRae oneshot. It’s rare for me to write a solely BBRae oneshot but I do love them dearly. They’re my second fave otp and it’s nice to explore outside of RobStar sometimes.
Hope you like it!
Her dark eyes were penetrating. She was staring daggers at him and he, as usual, didn't know how to react other than to sheepishly grin back at her.
"Explain. Right now." Raven breathed, tapping her foot against the floor.
"Um..." Garfield stammered, trying to look anywhere but in her direction. He was genuinely quite afraid that she'd be sending him to the netherworld before the night was out.
Her lips twisted further into a frown and her arms fell from being crossed over her chest. With a huff, she shrugged her jacket off of her shoulders and hung it up in the hallway of their apartment.
Raven stomped back into the lounge, acutely aware of music playing from the stereo. She began picking up her books from the floor before clearing the cushion pieces from the sofa.
"Look at the mess, Gar. What were you thinking!?" She grumbled, turning to scowl at him.
"Rae, c'mon... he needed me." Garfield murmured, quietly following her around as she started cleaning the newfound mess.
She couldn't help but roll her eyes, "They all need you."
He offered her a toothy grin, "True, but if I took them all, you really would murder me."
Raven sighed and stood the small trashcan upright,
"Gar, I don't know about this-"
He hurried over to her and used his free hand to take one of hers, a pleading expression etched on his face.
"Please, Rae. I promise it'll all be okay. I'll make sure he behaves." Gar vowed, "please lemme' keep him. Pleaaase."
Raven bit her lip and exhaled through her nose. Her eyes drifted from Garfield's puppy dog expression to the actual puppy tucked up in his other arm. It was fluffy and white and was the tiniest puppy Raven had ever seen.
Even she couldn't deny that he was adorable.
She watched the pup a moment longer, noting how comfy and at home it appeared to be snuggled up to Garfield. She supposed that wasn't to be unexpected considering all animals had this connection with him on account of his abilities and animal nature.
He gave her hand a gentle squeeze. Gar could tell he was winning Raven over because her facial expression was softening, bit by bit.
"Please, let me adopt him, babe." Gar asked, hope shining bright in his forest green eyes.
Raven exaggerated a sigh and her shoulders slumped, "Fine-"
"Wahoo!" Gar hollered, releasing her hand to fist bump the air. The puppy suddenly got excited too and clambered up Garfield's chest, licking at his face and wagging his tail around.
"Yeah, bud! Mama agreed you can stay! Wooo-"
He stopped, seeing her eyes had narrowed again. Gar cleared his throat and stroked the dog behind his ears to get him settled down again.
"Um... you were saying?"
"I was saying... fine, you can adopt him. But, I have some ground rules."
Gar grinned, "Of course."
"You are looking after him. I better not come home to find poop on the floors and the curtains being torn down. I mean it. I don't want this messy chaos every time I get home."
"Deal... today, he just kinda got... excited."
"Hm." She flipped her violet hair over her shoulder and sat on the sofa before continuing, "You'll be in charge of food and walks and baths. I'm serious. You want him? You'll be the sole carer. Do you understand, Gar?"
"Yes, Rae." He replied in a voice much like that of a child being reprimanded.
She gave him the smallest of smiles, "Then, yes... we can keep him."
Garfield beamed again, leaning down to capture her lips in a soft and tender kiss. He briefly cupped her cheek before pulling away from the interaction. He was grinning with stars practically glittering in his eyes .
Raven smirked to herself and shook her head. She never would have denied him of keeping the puppy. She knew how much he loved his animals and after him calling her with the information that they had a new addition, she knew she was doomed either way.
Besides, the puppy did seem like quite the animal companion for the two of them. It would be nice to have something like a dog between them. The awkward conversation of kids had come up recently, what with one of their best friends becoming pregnant not too long ago.
"Thank you, Rae... it means a lot to me for you to say yes." Gar admitted,
Raven shrugged and ran her slender fingers against his cheek, feeling the slight stubble he had.
"Let's face it... you were gonna keep badgering me about it until I agreed anyway. I just cut the time down." Raven replied,
Garfield stepped back, chuckling, "You know me so well, babe."
With that, he gently put the puppy down on the sofa beside Raven. Garfield dug around in the pocket of his jeans for his phone and brought it out with a flourish.
Setting off at a run, he called over his shoulder, "Awesome! I gotta go tell Star! She'll be so jealous!"
Raven snorted before her eyes widened, "Do it subtly! I don't want her going into really early labour from excitement, Garfield!"
"Yeah, yeah!" He shouted before that cheeky laugh of his faintly filtered through the hallway.
Raven shook her head and ran a hand through her long hair. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see the puppy staring at her.
She turned her head and raised an eyebrow, "What?"
The puppy tilted his head at her and made a whining sound.
"I am such a pushover..." She muttered,
The puppy attentively padded over to her rested his little head on her lap. Raven flinched ever so slightly and gazed down at the creature, finding herself growing fond of him already.
He slowly looked up at her, his big brown eyes boring into her sapphire ones.
"You are his pet..." Raven mumbled, her heart not really in it,
The puppy set his paws on her lap and gave her hand a tiny lick, waiting for her reaction.
Raven practically felt her resolve crumbling. She reached a hand up to his head and gave him a little ruffle of his fur.
"Well... I suppose you could be worse... you could be Silkie." Raven hushed, apparently pleasing the dog as his tongue flopped out in joy.
He scrambled up onto Raven's lap and looked at her expectantly.
Taking the hint, Raven gave into a ghost of a smile and scooped the canine up into her arms, much like that of a baby. She got to her feet and found herself walking around the lounge with him.
"You know... you are kind of sweet."
The puppy nuzzled her chest in response,
"But let's not tell Gar I said that, hm?"
Wandering over to the stereo, Raven briskly turned up the music playing; an upbeat version of 'Aint no Mountain High Enough' drifting from the speakers.
It wasn't intentional. It was more like an instinct as she started moving back and forth, swaying happily with the puppy contently resting in her arms.
"You're a pretty chilled out dog, aren't you?" She estimated, looking down at him, "no wonder Gar took so quickly to you."
Then she felt arms around her stomach and she smirked as Garfield brushed his lips over her neck,
"So you do like our new little guy."
Raven shrugged, "He's not so bad."
"Glad you think so."
The empath leaned her head back, against his shoulder,
"So..." She began, "dare I ask; have you thought of a name for him yet?"
"Yup!"
Raven rolled her eyes, "Of course you have. What is it?"
"Check it out!" He squeaked, turning her around to face him whilst keeping his hands against her hips.
She raised an eyebrow, prompting him to get on with it,
"Tofu!"
Raven abruptly stopped moving to the beat of the song, "Please tell me you're joking."
"Nope!"
"Tofu? Like... actual tofu?"
"Well, yeah! He's white and so is tofu."
"But... you can't be serious. You'll have to shout that in a park."
"I know right! It's such a cool name."
Raven shook her head in disbelief before pecking his cheek,
"You're a complete idiot..." She paused and looked down at the puppy, "but... Tofu it is then."
