I guess i have a misogyny problem when it comes to writing because i want to write about dudes but it feels weird to write just about dudes when irl i only care about girls. But the genres and tropes i like are so baked in misogyny and about male violence be it against men or women (with different ways to present both, usually) that even trying to start to diversify that but keep it interesting so it doesnt just feel like a weird contemporary cop show where the genders are balanced just right and its about a woman in some traditional male role with barely anything else changed also feels weird. But then one day on Instagram you called proshippers “freaks” and that you wanted anyone like that off your followers list. Hey, I'm real sorry you feel that way, but I have my reasons for why I am not and will never be comfortable with proshippers. I feel like it is never assumed or taken into consideration a lot of us have trauma, too. I am not going to get into that on my public art account because that is for me to know and I dont owe my trauma to anyone, but my issue with proshippers is the constant hiding behind trauma as an excuse to romanticize deplorable things. Imo Its not healthy to be surrounding yourself and consuming things that are going to romanticize and justify horrible things that have happened to you because instead of recognizing it as what it is, its further normalizing it in your mind. THAT is fiction affecting reality. Its not wrong to depict dark stories and intense themes, I think those are very important things that should be shared and talked about. What shouldnt be happening is the romanticization and justification of the horrible things in these stories regardless of if its morally just. Thats what proshipping is and I would prefer not to surround myself with people who think my or even their own trauma is something to be made into a cute ship or something to be admired when it is inherently harmful. Grass Talks (Literally)

Katsuki Bakugou x Reader

Description: After meeting the one and only pro hero Dynamight on a dating app, you two begin to see each other. Because of the dangers that come with his hero work, you both promise to be completely honest with each other from the beginning; though you can't help but keep one big secret from him.

You write fan fiction, mostly about him.

Chapter Details: Soft, lowkey ooc Bakugou but thats bc I imagine him to be a lot more mellow as an adult. Little bit of a serious talk, but nothing crazy. Readers quirk is also mentioned

The date had been going well so far, and the sun was even beginning to set since now it was almost 7:00 pm.

You two were currently lying on your backs together, looking up at the sky filled with clouds, stomachs full of yummy food.

"That one looks like a giraffe, or something else with a long neck." You said point up at a cloud.

Bakugou hummed, "Nah, I think it's a flower or something. Don't you see the stem? And there's even petals around it."

Tilting your head at a different angle, you tried to see what he saw.

"I don't see it! I thought I would, since I'm used to seeing flowers all the time..." You said while still looking up in wonder.

Bakugou sat up and rested his elbows on his knees, "That's right. You're a florist ain't you? What made you wanna do that?"

You stayed lying down and answered him, "Yeah, I've been a florist for a few years now. I chose it because of my quirk."

"What is your quirk anyways? Is it something with plants and all that crap?"

"Yep. I can talk to plants, so taking care of them is much easier and I love being able to help others that are struggling with their own plants."

Bakugou rubbed his hand along the grass, "So me doing this... is it hurting the grass?"

You closed your eyes and listened, hearing the grass ask what it was that was rubbing all over them.

"It's not hurting them, but they can feel it."

He pulled his hand away. "What about walking on the grass. Does that hurt 'em?"

"Sometimes it can. If you're walking normally, then no. But if you're stomping all over them, then yes it does hurt them." You said, finally sitting up and facing him.

You leaned over and ran your hand along the top of the grass very lightly, hearing the voice of the grass sigh at the feeling. You learned early on after developing your quirk that most plants actually enjoy being pet, if you can call it that.

"They like it when you do this to them. Just make sure you do it really gently." You said while showing him how to pet the grass.

He followed your directions with a grunt and did the same motion as you.

You laughed lightly, "Petting grass is kind of silly now that I think about it. I guess it's different since I know that the grass likes it."

He shook his head and pulled his hand away, "It's not. I think it's interesting. I have some plants at home, now I'm wonderin' if they're happy with me."

You giggled at that, "I'm sure they are. But thank you. I always felt like my quirk wasn't super useful since I couldn't be a hero, y'know?"

"You don't gotta be a hero to have a useful quirk. Everyone can find a way to use their quirk, trust me."

You smiled softly, "You know what, you're really sweet. You don't portray yourself like that on the media at all."

"I ain't sweet." He said looking away shyly.

"If you say soooo." You cooed.

He smirked lightly and looked at you, "Thanks for uh, being genuine by the way."

You furrowed your eyebrows, "What do you mean? Why wouldn't I be genuine?"

"I mean like, almost everyone I've met just wants to be with me because I'm a hero. It just makes dating a lot harder, I guess."

You frowned at his words. You knew there were people who were out for money, but to play with someone's feelings like that? That was just heartless. You knew Bakugou was a grown man and fully capable of handling himself, but you couldn't help but feel bad.

You place on of your hands on top of his and said, "I understand what you mean, and I want to let you know that I don't have any bad intentions at all."

"I won't lie and say I'm not a fan of you as a hero," You continued, "but right now I'm getting to know you as Bakugou. So I hope you'll continue to allow me to."

Bakugou genuinely smiled. No smirk, or sly remark following it. Just a smile.

"Thanks. That means more than you know. But on that same topic, I also wanted to talk to you about a boundary I have if we're going to continue seeing each other." He said seriously.

You nodded your head and listened attentively.

"Because of my line of work, I just ask that you be honest with me about things. I fuckin' hate liars in general, but I really need you to understand that I can't have someone around if they're gonna be keepin' secrets and shit." He said frowning, almost as if he was thinking of a particular person when speaking about liars.

You nodded and smiled. "I promise, I'll be completely honest with you. I really wanna keep seeing you and if that's all it takes then I'm willing to do it."

He grunted. "Good. Let's clean up now, I'll take you home."

Just as you were about to start cleaning up, your phone went off. You picked it up quickly and saw that it was an email, a notification from the site you write fan fiction on.

You bit your lip and thought about what Bakugou just said. Deciding to ignore the notification, you just continued to clean up.

After Bakugou had dropped you off back at home, you quickly changed into your pajamas and got comfortable.

You said goodnight to Cheerios and your plants, who said goodnight back.

When you got in bed, you looked through your emails and at the notifications from HeroFiction.com that you had received earlier.

You began to think about Bakugou's words again.

"I fuckin' hate liars."

You shook your head and tried to rid away any negative thoughts you had. This secret wasn't that big of a deal, and it was probably for the better that he didn't know.

Keeping one secret wouldn't hurt, right?

Guys. Why are you complaining about something you know nothing about?

I have been in the fanbase for a few years and I have always had close mutuals who shipped Nyxlin, including of my friends I first met in 2022 who loved the idea of Nyx leaving Velaris when he’s an adult and sought out answers from Tamlin and ending up training with him. And I beg you guys to actually think before you post and accuse people of very serious crimes when 1. TAMLIN IS NOT FUCKING BABY NYX! and 2. THIS IS ALSO FUCKING FICTION.

The beauty of fanfiction is just that: FAN and FICTION. People age up characters. They age down characters. There are AUs and alternate timelines that have always been a thing in fanfiction. And the ship also doesn’t have to be sexual or even romantic. A lot of these fanfictions are about Tamlin being a mentor / trainer and father figure. They’re about Tamlin healing from the past, and Nyx understanding the very real biases the NC has. A lot can be political where it takes an anti-NC / anti-IC route and points out the bad stuff about the NC like the CON, Illyrian females, etc.

I don’t ship Nyxlin, but I can understand the angst and healing tropes that are tied to it. And if I get my friend talking about it with me? I nod and reply and let them enjoy it, because I know they are not a fucking pedo for reading fanfiction about Tamlin being a mentor / trainer to an 18 year old Nyx who ran away from home. Feyre and Rhys have a huge age gap, one thats even bigger than Nyxlin. That’s something that happens with these fantasy stories with fae and humans. So stop moral policing especially when you’re moving around the goalpost just because you personally don’t like something and STOP leaping to the worst possible term because it’s incredibly harmful.

And guess what? If you’re calling for censorship of certain materials, then I see you as the same as the conservatives in the US trying to ban books. 🤷‍♀️Writing fiction is not illegal. Aging up characters is not illegal.

You don’t like to think you have favorite’s, well in your current situation you would like to say you love each Link equally. One Link you loved because he was the one that you first got introduced to the series, another Link was admittedly was the person that got you into the fandom and helped you make the friends you have now. So on and so forth.

Were their moments in your life that you like one more than the other? Yes. But now that you finally gotten to know all of them in this weird adventure your on. You would like to say no one is a favorite as they are all very much good friends of yours. Which is a rare thing to say as you don’t typically meet fiction characters everyday.

Though you do find yourself spending more and more time around Twilight. Probably because he also suck to you like glue but you assume it’s also because you gave away early on about how much you know. You didn’t expect Twilight of all people to be that concerned with the other heroes being wolfie. Since most of them regard him as a honorable member of the group.

Which made you extremely happy, more or less because puppy. You just want to pet the cute doggo. So when Wind’s curiosity got him to finally ask “so who is your favorite? Like before you met us.”

You look up at the sailor a bit confused, “I didn’t have a favorite.” You said as you pet Wolfie.

Wind huffs and plops down next to you, “well there has to be someone’s adventure you always went back to, to reread right?”

There was but you wouldn’t say that it was your favorite. You mainly replayed to spite the villain to see if you can kill them faster. “Well no. Thats not what I would call my favorite. So I don’t have one. I liked all of them.”

“Come on.” Wind pushed “really is there no one?”

There is a sinking feeling that Wind is going to not let this go, but you didn’t want to just choose someone on random. Also it would probably cause tension, “Well,” you look down at Wolfie. Not to put Twilight in a corner, but it’s not like Wind knows. “Wolfie is my favorite.” The wolf in question looks up at you quizzically as if to ask why you’re bringing him into this conversation.

“He doesn’t count!” Wind was pouting as he thinks about it more “does he?” He asks just to make sure.

“I mean I think he does.” You smiled and ruffled the fur around the doggo’s face. “This cutie is the best companion for Wild.”

Wild, who you didn’t realize was listening in calls out “you bet he is!”

Wade would bully Peter bc someone said he would and wrote it happening and bc y'all are so boring and annoying. Fanfiction isn't about what's canon or strictly in character thats why they're called transformative works. I think y'alls weird obsession with what's cannon while also trying to heavily police what and how ppl make fiction is honestly been the death of fandom and creativity.

There hasn't been a large scale cross over in fandom in years that either wasn't completely ironic or torn down by bullies that it fizzled out bc y'all don't know how to have fun. Even that recent debate over how sans would react to his brother death is further proof of y'all's lack of understanding of interpretation and fan works. Fanwork are supposed to exist in the reality of the fiction of the person who wrote it. NOT what IS the right interpretation bc there are NO right interpretation except for what is made canon which can be anything bc WE aren't the creators.

Who cares what happens in the comics. The comic themselves don't care what happens in other comic runs unless it's specifically meant to be a spin off/continuation.

Wade is SUPPOSED to be a morally ambiguous character. I know y'all have washed him of all the ambiguity bc ppl have told you that how ur supposed to approach fiction and y'all can not perceive a protag who might not be the best person who ur also NOT supposed to hate (god forbid a protag not have Jesus adjacent morality) but thats what he is. He'll do whatever anyone wrote him doing bc he's not real and also anything thats morally ambiguous or toxic bc that's one of his character traits and what was supposed to set him apparent from other heros he's not even a hero he's an antihero. I can not believe y'all are moralizing something as tame as bullying. Bullies making up with their victims happens in DISNEY movies now y'all tryna make that into some problematic take. OMG. And this is from someone who WAS bullied briefly until I learned how to fight and stand up for myself.

Thinking that someone who romanticizes something morally wrong couldn't have possibly been through that experience is the direct antithesis of fiction. It also makes no sense. Plenty of ppl write from experience but also sometimes turning it into a story in which they control how they interact with a bully does A LOT FOR REGAIN CONTROL OF THOSE NEGATIVE EXPERIENCES. STOP TRYING TO SUS OUT WHO HAS TRAUMA OR NOT. also STOP thinking that you are an authority of certain traumatic experiences you aren't every experiences are very VERY personal and the portrayal of those experiences should have NOTHING to do with yours bc there is NO way to encapsulate all lived experiences. And even if someone hasn't been bullied who cares again decenter yourself from a fictional scenario that should in now way be a representation of you bc u are not the center of the universe.

Again I think an age gap compliments these complications. It adds to an imbalanced perspective of both of them towards each other. I am the result of an affair my grandmother had with a native american man whilst my pappy, who raised me, was in Vietnam during the war.

As a white passing mixed kid, i was not called names often. I was looked down on, i was treated like an outsider in my own family, sneered at with whispers spread behind my and my brother’s backs.

I have been called a mongrel only a few times but i vividly remember the first time it happened.

I was small enough that my brothers could still trick me into thinking i was adopted because of my pale skin and light hair. After a family gathering (of my Pappys side of the family), i asked how everyone in the family knew we were our father’s children immediately.

My brother smiled very sardonically at me and sprouted something about him and our other brother sticking out like sore thumbs. I was confused, because they knew i was my father’s daughter as well, despite how i looked. I asked why they ignored us and were mean and looked at us like grandma looked at the dead snakes in her garden. He laughed at me and said

“Guess life is just harder for filthy mongrels like us”

I remember that phrase so vividly. And maybe my brother meant it to be joking, but those words stuck with me for years. Stuck with me through puberty when i wore even PALER foundation and put blonde streaks in my hair. Stuck with me as i grew up further in a racist religion that specifically makes indigenous people out to be evil. I remembered it when i finally started interacting with more native people in college to reconnect, remembered it when a white girl told me that “if i wanted to be taken seriously as an Indian i should dye my hair black and start tanning”

Those words have haunted me for a long time and they have only helped to make me despise myself and how I came to be.

I hate being stuck between two things- i hate looking white and having all the unfairly given privilege it grants me over my brother. I hate how i am seen as a pretendian for trying to interact with my culture. I hate knowing i can never get tribal affiliation because of the affair.

I know i have immense privilege because of how i look, but those words still haunt me. Because at the end of the day, thats how i see myself at my lowest moments.

And while yes, this is a fictional show, Jaces struggle is one i am intimately attuned to. I said things and did things i regret looking back out of anger for my own situation, i acted in immature and childish ways. But at the end of the day, i can look back and recognise that because i lived through it, and grew through it. I was constantly confused and hurt and torn between differing worlds and families and peoples and it took me a long long time to come to peace with it.

I am still not fully at peace with it.

So- while you may criticise the writing all you want, please realise that Jaces hurt and anger are feelings that can be very very real for some people. Jace, is obviously a fictional character who doesnt have real world feelings. But your mutuals, the people who see your post on discover page are, and your words about a fictional character can hurt them too.

I am not saying mince your words and center your world around sensitive snowflakes- i am saying, have some empathy- even if it is for a stupid fictional character. Because maybe along the way, you can find empathy for other real world people too.

Anyway, Shuro isn't the only character with problems, he isn't even the only Japanese/ Eastern Archipelago character, so not the only one with that specific background. And yet, he sure is the only one who acted out the way he did.

in the post abt him leaving izutsumi in the dungeon to come back “if she wants to” the “nuance” i was talking abt was the fact that he said “if she wants to” i.e giving her a choice to return (which she didnt do because she hated that place obv). also sorry hes not powerful enough to abolish slavery in his country, hes not even the heir to the family. dont think the eastern archipelago is strictly based on a specific time or reality in japan, probably just inspired by reality but not based on it, so shuros family is likely one of many families serving their “feudal lord” who rules a province of the country. in history, feudal lords were also under shogun and the emperor, but neither are mentioned in the manga iirc so i will guess that wasnt the case.

my aim w my posts isnt to force ppl to change their minds on whether or not they like a fictional character. im just giving an extra perspective w stuff from extra content plus my own experience (i.e being asian too) that some people may not know about. what they do w the info is up to them im not trying to tell people how to think. if they learn smth that changes their opinion fine if they dont also fine its not that serious. im just talking about my interpretations of the character.

Okay time to write my actual in-depth review of the DMC netflix show.

I overall, really enjoyed it, I fully expected it to be different from the games, in a lot of ways, I didn't want it to be exactly the same because it would be boring. And while I did enjoy it, I do have some issues.

SPOILERS AHEAD.

THE GOOD;

1) I enjoyed the animation! I know some people don't and don't like the 3D bits (and trust me, sometimes I also agree that it doesn't look GREAT) but honestly as someone who actually works in animation, that's a thing thats in every series, they're over worked, and are probably most likely under paid so I will never talk shit about the animation. Dante looked great, and I would jump his bones in a heartbeat

2) The music, peak 2000s. It was perfect you can actually fight me on this. The only thing that would of made it better was god damn Linkin Park. It reminded me of when I was a cringe teenager listening to all these bands and daydreaming ABOUT devil may cry so to me it's perfect

3) Dante. I was so so SO worried about him, he was my first ever fictional character love (and remains so, my friends will tell you I am still feral for him to this day) and I honestly loved him. He still felt, to me, like Dante. I liked seeing him even a bit more angry, it made sense, he's younger. Was he stupid for clearly not thinking he was at least half demon? Yeah but also it kinda made sense, trauma can make your brain do weird shit. ALSO Jonny Yong Bosh did a great job as Dante, it did take a second to not hear Nero, but I swear he was trying to change his inflictions to not sound exactly the same? (Although fight scenes he always did sound like Nero, but he's like that in anime too so lol) He was funny, cringe, and honestly human? Like he's a shithead it works. Also the ddr section at the end of ep1 made me laugh. He so would do that

THE BAD

1) The whole "oppressed demons" part...I kinda get WHY they decided to go that route, it sorta (if you squint) makes sense I guess?? I don't think they should of went that route, and I think they should of just had it that the White Rabbits motivation was just; I was treated like shit for my whole life, I want power and to destroy everything. Keep it simple stupid as it were.

2) Lady's dialogue. I actually liked Lady for the most part, but Christ the amount of cursing she did was a little bit TOO much. It felt like it was every other sentence she was cursing. And like, silly as it sounds, DMC is not a cursing series, only Nero in DMC5 gets to curse cause he's a punk yknow? So yah a little stupid

3) Vergil. Yes I know. But like, I didn't like how Plasma (?? I accidentally called him Phantom LOL) shows up as Vergil in episode 1 as how Vergil looks NOW. I genuinely think that the Vergil reveal should of been at the end (and based on episode 7, he should of been Nelo Angelo at that). I didn't like what they did with Vergil in general, again, should of been a tease at the end and that should of been it.

THE MIXED? SOME GOODS AND SOME BADS IG??

1) I'm sorry but America essentially invading hell and causing a genocide was SO on the nose. It was so stupid but like...yeah they would fuckin do that and don't send me hate or anything but like cmon 😭😭 it was super hand fisted tho, could of been done better

2) Dante's Devil Trigger. I....didn't like it. I think they based it kinda on dmc1 but I wish they went the dmc3 route (I know why they didn't but still)

3) The animation style of episode 6 was amazing. Like I don't like the whole "oh feel bad for him uwu" but it was a lovely art style. For both the Mary and Rabbit backstories.

4) I overall liked the Rabbit! I wish his motivation was actually more simple and more "power for the sake of power" rather than the "actually I tried saving people-" as mentioned previously. But his performance was excellent

OVERALL;

I did really enjoy myself. I fully went in with an open mind and that it would be very different from the original games/stories and I was okay with that. If anything, I'm hoping that this show getting any attention will convince capcom to either give us a dmc1/dmc3 remake or dmc6 HAHA I'm also happy to just get more DMC content

So yeah those are my thoughts and ramblings. I'm gonna give it another watch and see if my thoughts change but yeah. I also totally understand if people didn't like it at all, but I liked it 😅

You’re being painted as the bad guys because of how y’all are acting. The way fictional characters are portrayed in a fic is more important to you than how a real person is treated.

you just wouldn’t see an elriel post such a heavy snippet randomly with 0 warning to anyone about the language or content it contained. Yes, there are R rated elriel fanfics but guess what? They’re handled with care. The authors actually understand the elriel dynamic, this author - who has literally hated on elriel - does not understand that hence why the fic received such bad criticism. Mmm I have not seen any elriel come out and say they had to add banter to make elriel interesting. The “banter” is naturally written in a way that suits elriel. People are allowed to explore characters & couples however they want but it came off as insulting and a little tone deaf to post such a polarising piece in the elriel tag - when the author has said bad things about elriel and even made fun of us stans. And what made it even worse- there was no content warnings.

How are we acting, anon? Im sure the author is mature enough to understand the difference between genuine elriel accounts and trolls that are trying antagonise the fandom. Most elriels ignored it, some had balls to make a separate post and say what we were all thinking. Some wanted to talk about it in private- all valid. Anythinh we’re saying - isn’t hate. Its not insulting to the author as a person. No genuine account came for the author. I said this twice before - I do not agree with calling the authors writing itself terrible or bad as thats not nice especially knowing and understanding the guts it takes to post your work out there. But I do think how elriels reacted are completely valid. The author isn’t a multi shipper when it comes to elriel, has not said positive things about the ship, made fun of the stans etc. This could have been done in a tactful way it wasn’t done so. Elriels should not have to view a piece of work that truly showed elriel in a bad light - in a tag thats meant to be their safe place,

The funny thing is - as a DR reader I understood the concept the author was going for. Elriel simply did not suit it and elriels weren’t the demographic for it 🤷‍♀️

My condolences to the author, no one deserves to be bullied. No one supports or encourages that behaviour here. If they decides to continue writing elriel - as apparently it was in demand, I can only suggest using the vague tags. In the end its upto them.

But elriels aren’t the bad ones here. I think the whole thing could have been done more maturely and tactically.
