very silly story under the cut:

black had a really bad day. he stubbed his toe, fell, spilled his coffee, and had an annoying ass conversation with wenda. black is so pissed at wenda that he punches her. apparently, black was holding a hypnotization bracelet so when he punched wenda the bracelet shook around and hypnotized her, causing her to snatch said bracelet from him and punching the latter - hypnotizing him as well. now they are both hypnotized and crazy.

this is why they are evil and killed a bunch of people - except wenda didnt kill grey because wenda loves him, and black didnt kill jevin because black loves him.

apparently. according to my sisters.

pinki was going to get a tattoo from black at a tattoo store. black was going to tattoo a skull with the words "bye bye" to pinki's forehead, but accidentally ripped her face off.

fun bot also punched wenda and black in the faces, in an attempt to un-hypnotize them. it did not work, because they did not have the hypnotization bracelet. black and wenda got angry and chased fun bot until they lost sight of them.

wenda didn't give simon enough food, so he decided to eat brud instead. after eating brud, simon was satiated.

mr. fun computer was dying, and said that he needed battery. so jevin, who was conveniently right next to him, plugged in a charger but it was the wrong charger. this turned mr. fun computer into a catboy, and made him chase jevin all around the room (because theyre in a house for some reason). so jevin ran out of the house that they were both in and teamed up with grey for shelter, because grey was hiding from wenda. but before they found shelter, black killed oren.

grey and jevin are in a forest trying to survive. grey is stressing out and babbling nonsense until jevin interrupts grey by saying "just shut up and kiss me already!" they fall in love and make out passionately. (note: THIS STATEMENT RIGHT HERE HAS TURNED ME INTO A GREY X JEVIN SHIPPER AND I CANNOT GO ONE SECOND WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT THEM KISSING. CURSE YOOOOUUUU RAAAAAGGHHHHH........... GETS BLASTED WITH YAOI BEAM.....)

raddy was pretending to be jesus. wenda got so mad at him that she nailed raddy to a cross, jesus-style. wenda then asked simon to eat half of raddy's body. suddenly, simon choked on brud's bucket (which had apparently been stored in his stomach and somehow got regurgitated) and passed out.

mr. sun was going to get a tattoo from black at a tattoo store. black says "okay but you need to burn down the forest and everyone in it first" and mr. sun agrees. after the deed is done, mr. sun gets a tattoo on their left eye.

however, pinki (who was apparently in the forest) survives the forest fire, along with grey and jevin. grey and jevin fled to a different forest when the saw mr. sun burning the first forest down.

vineria was in the second forest looking for food, but then she mistook plant food for normal food, so she ate it and felt really sick but she ate it anyways because she thought it was still food. she went to sleep, and the next morning her eyes were hurting a lot. she said "omg it feels like my eyes are gonna pop out" and guess what? they did. she then realized too late that the "normal food" was dangerous plant food, but by the time she realized this, the weird growth stuff in her insides were growing and reaching her brain, making her pass out. she died shortly after.

sky saw all the craziness happening everywhere and tried to find grey and jevin. but while they were running, they stepped on a booby trap and metal pipes burst out of the trap and impaled them, causing them to die.

(guess were switching to present tense now lmao)

grey and jevin are wandering in the forest when they find an abandoned house. inside, they find a shovel and keep it for defense in case something bad happens. they decide to stay in the abandoned house.

a day later, while grey and jevin are searching for food, they see sky's dead carcass and go "man. we should bury them." so they bury them using the shovel they found.

wenda and black are searching for weapons when they stumble upon an abandoned house (not the same house that grey and jevin are in). turns out that the abandoned house is actually tunner's house, and wenda finds a gun, cowboy boots, a cowboy hat, and cowboy clothes. she decides to wear the clothes and keep the gun, and is so intoxicated with the idea of being a cowgirl (she's always wanted to be a cowgirl) that she goes out into the forest, finds tunner, and shoots him because she wants to be the only cowgirl in sprunkiland and doesnt want any other cowgirls or cowboys to live.

wenda then gets really hot outside so she takes the cowboy clothes off.

a few minutes later, black is bored and wants to do something, so he goes "hey wenda. wanna see something cool???" and she goes "yeah sure." so black uses magic (which he apparently has for some reason) and magically revives all the dead sprunkis into evil zombies. wenda goes "woah. thats cool. can you control them?" and black goes "nah. lol. lmao. i cant control them" and wenda goes "omg bro youre so STUPID....... were LITERALLY GONNA DIE..... theyre like UNDEAD ZOMBIES NOW.......theyre NOT GONNA DIE ANYMORE........ bRO........" and black is like "haha. lol. i was bored. lmao. tee hee." he has no fear of consequences.

grey and jevin are still in the second forest, still hiding out in the abandoned house they found, but then clukr walks into the house (grey and jevin haven't locked the door because, in my sister's words: "theyre dumb") and for some reason they just dont notice clukr. but its because hes being quiet. they continue not noticing until clukr reaches the second floor (the house has a second floor and grey and jevin are on the second floor). then jevin goes "omg is that wenda" and brings out the shovel (he cant see clukr very well because its dark outside ((the lights barely work inside, theyre trying to conserve power)) ), but grey goes "wait thats clukr thats my semi-pookie clukr" (hes kinda basically a cat. like i know its canon that hes not a cat but me and my sister have decided that he is now a demon who looks like a cta. whatever. he has night vision too) and jevin goes "hmmmm. hmm.... hrmmm..... okay. whatever. sure ig."

but black was watching everything that was happening while holding a grey and jevin detector blessed upon him by mr. sun, and a chainsaw blessed upon him by mr. fun computer. black floats to the second floor back window (he has magic) and throws the chainsaw into the window, aiming for grey and jevin. jevin quickly deflects the chainsaw with the shovel but it bounces off directly into clukr's head, slicing it.

clukr is just introduced and then literally immediately dies like 5 seconds later. justice for clukr

anyways because of the magic that turns dead sprunkis into evil zombies, clukr dies but is immediately revived and is evil now. clukr then tries to attack both grey and jevin but clukr cant see very well thru his giant cymbal head and jevin just starts repeatedly beating up clukr with the shovel. yaaaaayyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

now clukr is dizzy, but grey is freaking out and goes "we need to get outta here NOW" so he grabs jevin's hand and runs out the broken back second story window and gets cut up by all the broken glass, but he doesn't see black at the window and rams head-first straight into his stomacg. like. REALLy hard. so them black got a really bad stomachache and went spinning off into the distance while grey and jevin fell down the second story all the way down to the ground. and. note this. take notes of this.

after falling, grey and jevin are NOT INJURED. at ALL. not injured by the fall at the sLIGHTEST. but then they immediately pass out once they reach the bottom. like they literally jump out the window, are perfectly fine, and just ragdoll once they touch the ground. roblox style. like they just jump out and go "yippee!!! yahoo!!!!!" and land on the ground UNSCATHED and just. "uuuurrghhhhh!!!!!! passes out on the ground"

anyways my sister said that grey landed on all fours (like the totally awesome demon cat that he is) and is perfectly ok and has like a whole two seconds of being conscious until he just randomly ragdolls roblox-style on the ground. then jevin is about to fall to the ground beside him also perfectly ok, but in midair his body is just. magically teleported on top of grey??? and he falls on grey and he just passes out after?????? i have no clue just roll with it chat

anyways fun bot sees both their unconscious bodies at the back of the house and brings them to their secret underground base. jevin wakes up first in one of the beds in the base and fun bot notices and says "did you know that you passed out on top of grey.... thats kinda gay. thats kind of gay of you to do that"

jevin says "uhhhh no??? i didnt do that???? wtf???"

and fun bots like "yeah you did. i saw it with my own two robotic eyes. i saw it. i would not lie to you. you passed out on top of grey yaoi-style. i saw it"

and then grey woke up and was like "omg!!! where am i"

I recently got into ATLA again and the fandom is so strange I never expected a show as heartfelt as this to have so much beef inside its fanbase. I'm used to fandom toxicity and discourse- it's a part of every fandom, but a lot if stuff here just seems like ppl making up issues to get mad at. I rly feel like I'm in a diff world bc I loved this show and watched it so many times over the years ever since I was a preteen and never in my life would I have expecteded Aang of all characters to be so hated. It's very disorienting as someone who loved this series for years but never engaged or knew what the fandom was like till now. Huge whiplash!

okay so i don't really know anything about legends, i only pull references or lore from it when i need it, so i don't really know much about mara or anyone else. i've seen a ton of maraluke content, and a lot of it is really nice actually. the art is cute and i have many mutuals who ship them. idk if i actually ship them, because again, idk who mara really is, but i don't mind the ship much. idk who callista is, but i like the name. anyway, fanon love interests in disney canon are pretty good. i personally adore dinluke (the fandom... is another story) and i endorse every other luke ship out there. i don't really care who he gets shipped with, i'm just going along with the vibe. i guess i really enjoy that disney canon never gave him a love interest, because that leaves a lot of fans to do with that as they please. i do like the aroace luke headcanon too, and i do like ideas of him being in a qpr with whoever. i think since more people are familiar with disney canon luke, they characterize him to be a bit more feminine and make him more of a "sub gay sunshine twink" (cries and sobs and vomits and wails and screeches and-) so i do tread a bit more carefully with the gay or queer ships luke is in. i don't really see luke getting shipped with any women outside of mara (which makes sense because this guy never interacts with women in the first place), which is kinda unfortunate, but understandable.

i guess in the end, i'm not actually a big shipper. while i do dabble with ships here and there, i'm not really directly into just shipping, so i don't try to interact with shipping fandoms unless i really enjoy a specific ship. i think that a lot of the world would be really enraged if luke got an actual canonical love interest. it's just something that a lot of people would be mad about. and introducing an actor to play a love interest for luke is sure to get some of the most vile hate out there, especially if they're a poc (or a woman. or both). so while the idea of luke getting a love interest, whether it be already a fanon ship like dinluke or skybridger or skyrissian, or another new character brought in from legends, is cool and all, i think bringing fanon into canon wouldn't end well, and it'd be better off to just leave things as they are. ofc there's always the opportunity to explore character relationships with luke in an interesting and dynamical way. romance doesn't need to be a thing in the story for the story to be actually told.

that being said, i just don't really see luke ever getting into a relationship in canon. i'd say it'd be interesting to see him with a love interest, but i know that if that actually happens, i'd probably be mad about it too lmao. i'm just very keen on keeping things the way they are already.

7) Without naming names what's something you've come across in a fic that made you genuinely uncomfortable/angry.

I happen to have a few answers to this, but I'll just list the first one that came to mind! Gonna be as vague as possible.

There was this one poly fic that I loooooovvvvveeeeeeeedddddd reading. Like when I say I was seated everyday, for every available hour, reading this fic. I MEAN it. Steve was the addition to the ship, I won't say the other two because it's a bit more identifiable. Anyways, the ship was great, the development of the characters was enjoyable and included some interesting headcanons for the other two in the ship that I haven't considered. And it seemed like the author was spending a certain amount of chapters per character to explore their psyche a bit more, yeah? So I was sitting around and waiting for Steve's turn.

When I tell you, I got a migraine from the amount of anger and frustration I experienced when we finally got to Steve's section. Like I'm getting a headache right now as I'm typing this because it irritates me so bad. They dropped the fucking ball SO hard, there's probably a new ground zero directly below their keyboard or something. I can't say exactly what happened because I think it might be too on the nose, but let's just say it has to do with Bucky. God, I was so angry. I still have them muted on ao3 to this day😭I had such a strong emotional reaction because I LOVED the fic and I ADORED the pairing so much! It's not super common of me to be all in like that. I learned my lesson! If you wanna know what it was, feel free to DM me though - I wish I could give more details, but I just don't wanna put anyone on blast in public.

Despite all this, I still finished the fic though. #NOTAQUITTER

This happens a lot more on my main, but I do not care about antishippers as much as everyone else seems to. I just genuinely cannot muster up any kind of genuine upsetness that other people on my side of the fandom has. And I admit, I do get annoyed seeing people go blue in the face cause someone said a ship or kink or trope is nasty or whatever - I don't care! But I don't talk about it much because I don't want to hurt people's feelings who do care. I recognize that insults and shaming like that slides right off of me in a way it doesn't other people and well, I don't like to speak on things I can't sympathize with. It would be way too easy for my tone to come off as mean and I don't want that!

They're kind of becoming a blur, and usually come down to the same complains and topics, but one of them particularly stood out! Basically, a lot of bashing Bloodborne as misogynistic piece of garbage for featuring themes of motherhood, portraying motherhood as a good thing, something about how it was a bad thing that "even" Maria ended up having compassionate side and that "we as fans had the power to change that", Fauxsefka bit I've mentioned and so on. Ending with the "well but don't think that I dislike Bloodborne, it is still one of my favourite games" that gave me severe abusive talk vibe for some reason. Like, it can only happen so many times before I start to see the trend of the "leaders"/chosen spokespeople/whatever conveniently excluding fans who sees the characters and the ship the "wrong" way. They've decided that this dynamic can only work like this and the characters in it can only be like this, and any varied take is not celebrated as refreshing with the novelty but passively-aggressively side-eyed as disturbance of their peace of rinsing the same exact thing over and over for years, unaltered. Heck, not even novel takes. Novel approach of the person. I swear, they GOTTA be side-eyeing fellow fans that don't constantly start discourse, because why else the 'chill' Mariadeline fans are left in the dust? It feels like hatred is the part of the requirement for the clique, the 'cool kids' and only those they've 'blessed' with their approval, and this ship never SHOULD have gotten into claws of the clique in the first place!

In other words, making the groups of 'cool kids' to look up to is one way to ruin a dynamic/ship for everyone else, and ruin fandoms in general. Like, one of my mutuals ended up disliking the ship because of its prevalent association with the most toxic fans, and I kinda helped them to like it again, on their own terms and with their own (based) headcanons! The illusion of "supportive wholesome community" falls at the seams here and there if you just stand aside and watch for 2 minutes, and how this ship is supported and perpetuated is one of the biggest examples.

To be honest, it is ridiculously hard to make me block someone. Usually people whose stuff I don't really want to see coincidentally block me first because, again, there is always a big chance that I pick a very strong language to disagree, so the problem solves itself! Even when I do block someone, in 90% I unblock later for this or that reason!

But yeah, there were a couple of exceptions. Only one of them qualifies as 'annoying' to begin with, though 'petty, smug and insecure in the worst way' fits more? They already gave me enough signs of the mean girl (gender neutral!), and what really sealed it was when they acted as though I grossly disrespected them over pointing out a piece of dialogue from the canon when in NO way I was rude or Redditor brand of condescending. Even told me that I "baited" them. They didn't block me, but I blocked them. Not instantly, but the next time I saw their art on my dashboard. The thing is, earlier during that mess of a "conversation" they've admitted on not actually caring about Bloodborne lore but just collecting prompts from it to create their own thing. It just changed my perception of their creativity and it felt empty all of a sudden, like just a lot of glitter and lights without any actual substance within. I can be unhappy with someone while still liking their creativity, but I decided it was better to not invest any admiration for works that had no real care and passion for the source material within. Normally when I realise the gap between me and another fan's level of investment I simply don't follow, but they were frequient presence on the dashboard, so..

You're very right in many of the things you said. chwn has many complicated feelings that stem from the fact that she's no one's priority in the family. Her little brothers are close in age and they're Alphas so they generally bond with each other and also they're younger so she doesn't want to play with them anyway. And also they probably look up to dh more because he's a boy, even if he's an Omega, while she's the stereotypical girl who likes girl things and makeup and boys, you know?

Generally in that family her role should be 'the only girl' and normally the only girl is a little spoiled, but her parents have always paid attention to dh because they didn't want him to think he was lacking something for being a male Omega, which means she was never the center of attention as the only daughter. Plus, dh is like very academically gifted, which she isn't, so he always outstaged her in that field too. So what did she do? She turned to the things that made her stand out from her brothers, as in being pretty and dating boys. Except even in that dh literally stole her thunder because she's a Beta and he's an Omega so even if guys are het they would still be attracted to him on a physical level. This was even before what happened with jmn. chwn has had a crush on mrk and has realized quite early on that she never stood a chance, but what happened with jmn was the last she could stand.

Still, I do believe the way she's behaving is quite wrong. The reason dh is always at the center of attention is that he leaves in a society where he's heavily discriminated and always made feel like he was wrong. His parents tried to overcompensate by supporting him completely, and even then they couldn't totally keep him safe because as you know he still developed a lot of self-esteem issues and internalized shame. Plus, no matter how we look at it, dh is an Omega who will never be able to have children. It might not affect his life too much but it's still a disability and something he'll have to live with for the rest of his life. Is it fair to chwn that she has to suck it up just because her brother was born like this? Nope, but at the end of the day if we put their problems on a scale, is having Donghyuck as a brother really a problem for her? Her parents are not really neglecting her, she's not forbidden from pursuing her passions, she has no less opportunities than any of her brothers to do everything she wants. The reason she's throwing a tantrum is basically because she's not in the spotlight the way she wants, but I'd say it's not that grave of an issue when dh has to deal with both mental and physical health problems, having to take medicines to keep his hormones in control, having a bad reputation because he sleeps around, knowing it'll be hard for him to find a mate since he cannot provide a family, and on top of that his sister slutshames him both in front and at his back. Like, grow up? At this point it's not that people like her brother more because he's an Omega, but because she's childish and a little bit of an attention-grabber, and there's nothing wrong with wanting attention, but it's a problem when you hate other people for supposedly outstaging you.

As for what happened with jmn, that was the best thing he could do. You're right, he could've coddled up to her and assured it wasn't going to happen again, but the fact that she wanted to dictate who he was seeing was wrong. The fact that she pulled a me or him was wrong. Jmn didn't break up with her because he prefers her brother, but because if he had given up on this he would've rewarded a honestly fucked up, controlling, and toxic behavior, and that's no way to be in a relationship. I just wasn’t a huge fan of season 5 - I feel like it had potential but faltered for me. It seemed like all the characters they had chipped outside of Catra were done solely to avoid writing interactions between them all. We didn’t get a big Scorpia and catra talk, we didn’t get as much mermista + seahawk as I’d have wanted, and it’s an absolute shame we barely got any glimmer and Micah reunion. I’m mad we didn’t see more of Razz or Lonnie + Rogelio + Kyle, or Huntara. Didn’t like how Entrapta was treated, especially being put on a leash, it feels really ableist to me. Wish Catra got to cut her hair of her own accord, the fact it was forced hits very close to forced assimilation of indigenous people in America and takes away a lot of her agency - id have loved to see her actually upset over the loss of her hair too. I hated the bit where adora tells glimmer “I’m a puncher I’m not good with emotions” or something to that effect, because it’s so not true; I wish Adora was more hurt after reuniting and Bow maybe a little less.

Definitely the most controversial opinion I have though is I don’t ship Catra/adora, never vibed with me, I prefer them having a more platonic relationship instead. Reminds me a lot of a really bad past relationship I was in so i have to have it blacklisted to avoid being upset by it. It’s whatever, it is what it is, I’m glad people can enjoy the relationship because I can see what they were trying to tell with the pairing and the message would be really important, but it crossed a line for me in terms of my own personal trauma. It’s worse tho cuz the fanbase tends to romanticize the most upsetting parts of the relationship to me, like adora’s scars from Catra or even outright making art of them hurting each other that’s meant to be romantic or sexy. Fanbases always do this shit tho I guess. Anyways i like most ships outside of c/a and Entrapta/hordak but my fav pairing is glimadora which alone is enough to get me pelted with rocks due to the fact there’s some really annoying glimadora shippers (not saying a name but I’m sure you all know who) who definitely stirred the pot. I sure as hell don’t associate with them anymore because I went outside LMAO

This is during s5, Finn is alive but is not with Rachel, still in college but helping Will with glee club. Klaine is still engaged. Jake still cheated on Marley. Britt is not a genius so she's still at McKinley and she and Santana miss each other.

This ended up looking sort of like a mix of plots of Diva, The role you were born to play and Glease but I just placed the songs to the people I pictured, sorry if it looks like I didn't give some characters much to do, I also tried to fit some fan favorite couples even if they're not my cup of tea.

It's a looong double special episode to fit all the songs I liked because I want to lol.

Rachel calls Quinn to tell her she misses Finn but she can't go back to Ohio. Quinn realizes she has always had feelings for her. She hangs up and sings the song in the hallways of Yale (like Gabriella in HSM). I imagine the scenes intertwined with Marley singing at McKinley and Quinn at Yale (This is a treat for Faberry shippers and also cause I believe Quinn's voice on this would be perfect).

Kitty, Unique and Tina get callbacks for Sharpay so they sing What I've been looking for with Blaine to see who has better chemistry with him. They start upstaging each other again and they kinda make Blaine aside to show who's the better Sharpay and they change the song, so this turns into a mashup with Bop to the top (Picture the Zack and Cody scene of bop to the top, sorry for the quality, is the best one I could find but it's in Disney+ anyway lol).

Ending: Even tho we didn't see his audition (because too many songs already), I'd like to think Sam is a huge HSM fan so he gets the Troy part and Marley gets Gabriella, in the end they're rehearsing in the auditorium while Finn and Artie watch, they sing I just wanna be with you. Jake is watching from far. We see transicions with other couples while the song goes:

Do you know when the racism and ableism accusations against Nora started? Because back when I was active in 2016/2017 and don't think they were a thing, or were very low-key. Was it something she said or are people just basing it off the things she wrote in the books?

From what I remember, the first time I heard the blanket statement of “Nora is racist/fetishizes gay men” blanket statement was early fall 2019 (which is so ironic for the fandom to say on so many levels lmao). There wasn’t a catalyst or anything, just she went offline 2016 and no new content was coming out and the aftg fandom is such an echo chamber that… an accidental smear campaign happened.

 Before then, I would see occasional “Nora used ableist slur” which… is funny (not that ableism isn’t serious) to me people care more about that than Seth saying the f-slur. IMO this is because with Seth, it clearly shows the character thinking it and not the author who is writing about what will be an end game mlm relationship. 

But anyways! Long story short, it's the fact that she’s an ace/aro woman who wrote a mlm book, and based off of the events in canon. There is no “Nora called me/someone else a slur” it’s “Nora wrote a book where slur(s) are used” and “the Moriyama’s are Japanese.”

Below I put my own opinion on these claims and go into more detail:

To one question in the EC about her inspo for aftg she jokingly responded how she wanted to write about gay athletes. On other parts of your blog you could see she was a hockey fan and an overall sports fan (anime or otherwise) but I've seen this statement taken out of context and framed as “she's one of those BOYXBOY” shippers. Considering how… well-developed both Andrew and Neil’s relationship is, and it takes them until like the 3rd book and there is a whole complex ass plot going on around, you can see how that's just. Not really true. And considering the fandom is like… 85% women (queer women but still women) and I've gotten into a discussion with someone who is a woman and called Nora a fetishizer and was ignoring my opinions as a mlm, and I really just wanted to say “well what does that make you?” it's a very ironic high horse. She didn’t write 3 all 3 books to put Neil in lingerie pwp or crop-top fem-fatal fashion show, fandom did. 

Also, I talked to an ace/aro friend about this, and she talked to me about how AFTG spoke to her very much so as an ace/aro story. Neil is demisexual, Nora didn’t know of the word at the time of reading it, but she did get an anon asking if Neil was demi after, and she said “had to look it up, and yep, but he doesn't really think about it” (paraphrased). Obviously it would have been cool if andreil were canonly written as wlw by Nora instead, (which would have increased the amount of wlw rep and demi rep) but tbh I don’t think tumblr would have cared about it nearly as much and everyone would just call Neil a cold bitch–like people do with Nora’s other published book with a main character who's a woman. Plus they're her OC’s, not mine. 

The fact is that 50% of all LGBT+ rep in literature is mlm, mostly white mlm, and not written by mlm. I’m not going to hold her to a higher standard than everyone else, she already broke a shit ton of barriers in topics she discusses that otherwise get ignored. I’m grateful to these books for existing even if it's a mlm story written by a woman. I still will prioritize reading mlm written by mlm–and vice versa with wlw– in the way I prioritize reading stories about POC written by POC. But credit where credit is due, this is a very good story, and a very good demi story. 

Ableism:

To me, AFTG is a story about ableism and how we perceive some trauma survivors more worthy than others. Neil and the foxes using ableist language shows how people actually talk. Neil thinks shitty things about Andrew, like the others do too, and thinks he's “psycho”. The story ultimately deconstructs this idea and these perceptions of people. Wymack, someone who says the r-slur (which is still not known by the general population as a slur even in 2021 much less the early 2000s when the book was beginning to be written and what the timeline is based off of) is a character who understands Andrew better than most of the others do, and gives him the most sympathy and understanding despite using words like the m-slur and r-slur. Using these words isn't good, but it is how people talk, and this character talks. Wymack is a playful “name caller” especially when he’s mad, the foxes think Andrew is “crazy” and incapable of humanity and love because of it. They call his meds “antipsychotics” as an assumption and insult in a derogatory way, when really antipsychotics are a very helpful drug for some people who need them. Even Neil thinks these things about Andrew until he learns to care about him. All the foxes are hypocritical to am extent, as people in real life tend to be. Nora herself doesn’t use these or tweet them or something, her characters do to show aspects of their personality and opinions and how they change over time.

Racism:

As for the racism, I've seen people talk about how racial minorities being antagonists is inherently bad, which I think lacks nuance but overall isn't a harmful statement or belief. However, Nora herself said she wrote in the yakuza instead of another gang or mob because she was inspired for AFTG by sports anime, (which often queer-bait for a variety of reasons). I haven’t seen a textual analysis acknowledging the racist undertones surrounding the Moriyama’s as the few characters of color who are also major antagonists, but instead just “Nora is racist”. Wymack having shitty flame tribal tattoo’s is just… a huge 90’s thing and a part of his character design. Her having a character with bad taste in tattoo trends doesn’t mean she's racist. There is the whole how Nicky is handled thing, but that's a whole thing on it’s own. The fandom… really will write Nicky being all “ai ai muy spicy, jaja imma hit on my white–not annoying like me–boyfriend in Spanish. With my booty hole out and open for him ofc.” and as a Mexican mlm I’m like … damn alright. 

I think there is merit to the fact that she writes white as the default* and unless otherwise stated a POC a character was written with the intent to be white is another valid criticism, as well as the fact that the cast is largely white, but everything Nora is accused of I've seen the fandom do worse. That goes to the debate of, is actively writing stereotypes for POC more harmful than no representation at all? And personally I prefer the lack of established race line that lets me ignore Nora’s canon intent of characters to be white and come up with my own HC’s over the fandoms depictions of “zen monk Renee with dark past” “black best friend Matt who got over drugs but is a puppy dog” “ex stripper black Dan who dates Matt” vague tokenism. I HC many of the upperclassmen as POC and do my best to actively give thought behind it and have their own arcs that also avoids the fandom colorism spectrum of “darkest characters we HC go to the back and fandom favorites are in the front and are the lightest.” 

*I however won't criticize her harsher or more than… everyone else who still largely does this in fanfiction regarding AFTG as well as literature in general. This isn't a Nora thing, it's a societal thing, and considering the books came out in like 2014 I'm not gonna hold her to a higher standard than the rest of the world. She's just someone who wrote her personal OC’s and self-published expecting no following. I don’t know her race and I’m not gonna hold her to a higher standard than everyone else just because. 

The criticisms I've seen have always been… ironic IMO, and clearly I have a lot of thoughts on it. I think most people say those things about Nora because they heard them, and it's the woke thing to say and do and don’t critically analyze their actions or anything, but just accept them.

Am I the only one who doesn’t get why some (tw) are shitting on Haru and Rin separately just for the fact that they reciprocate each others feelings? Because it’s not the feelings they wanted them to reciprocate? Just curious because I'm new and recently entered the fandom. And since when miscommunication in between means that they don't deserve to be happy at the end? Because you're an idiot when it comes to love, doesn't mean you're a bad person. Hehe welcome to the madness, perfect time to join! Yeah, tbh that's the thing in the fandom that always bugged me the most. The fact that some act like if you don't reciprocate someone's feelings, it makes you a bad person. I always found it incredibly cringy when ppl in real life for example make ppl feel guilty for not feeling the same way and make you feel like shit bc of it. I don't get why you have to apologize for that or feel bad, if you never ever gave him any hope or anything in the first place.

Nowdays it's thankfully a rare sight already in this fandom, bc most already grown and see perfectly what's truly healthy and unhealthy, it's just tbh only the same 3 accounts ppl keep sending me that are still on that, who also think that Haru is literally possessed in the last movie so I don't see the point of like arguing with ppl like this. It's just they're always getting extremely angry when Haru wants Rin as if it's his fault that he feels this way and always go about it like he is inconsiderate of Makoto's feelings. Implying that they're mad that he doesn't feel that way about Makoto, while Makoto does. I'm same as @tododeku-or-bust for example said here (idk what fandom brought this on, but just in general) also do not get what's appealing about this kind of relationships in the first place.

If they shipped it in terms of like it's mutual I'd get it, but they go on about how Rin or Haru are bad friends bc they're not in love with their best friends... like ?????? I didn't know you owe it to your friends to have romantic feelings for them.

In real life if you found out that your bestie feels that way for you while you don't reciprocate, it's a burden, that'll make you feel uncomfortable and at times guilty when you shouldn't technically feel that way. So putting on someone a burden of "I was pining for you all along", when you know they don't feel the same is giving me this feeling of cringe. So I personally do not get what's enjoyable at seeing it like that in Free. But to each their own kink lmao.

It's like... is Haru at fault for the fact that he was Ikuya's first love too? I do not get it really. Like he doesn't have to take responsibility for everyone who falls for him and he doesn't owe anyone to reciprocate their feelings. Even to Rin. Like if he didn't feel the same way for Rin, it wouldn't be his fault either. But since he does feel the same way for him, it's like... good, great, happy for them.

Like once again if someone believes that Makoto and Sousuke are unrequitedly in love with Rin and Haru, that's not rinharu fault. Haru literally never ever lead Makoto on EVER. He never ever did anything that would make Makoto believe that they're more than friends. He was always honest about everything. Like when Makoto thought that he went out to see him, but Haru just wanted to see the sunrise, he told him just that. He never encoraged anything, he refused to live with him and never wanted. I do not get why it's supposed to be his fault that he doesn't like his friend in that way. If Makoto has some unrequited feelings for him and decided to hang up on this, it's his own life choice in my opinion.

It's like saying that Onodera and Takano for example don't deserve to be together just because they unintentionally hurt each other and got separated for 10 years bc of misunderstanding. This argument is like typical Yokozawa life position aka "but I was there when he left you heartbroken for several years, that means you MUST pick me". As I've said before, that's just not how it fucking works. And just bc they couldn't explain things to each other normally, doesn't mean that they don't deserve be happy now. Being idiots is not a crime.

Or if you came from chinese bl, lets go "Guardian" for example. Zhu Hong also was on about how "why you love Shen Wei, not me, I always did everything for you and I was always there, I even wore heels bc you once said you liked those etc". Like he never asked her to do this, he never gave her any hope, he was beyond rude and open about the fact that he's not interested, he never did anything to make her think she had a chance since the beginning. Just bc she decided to dedicate her life to false hope that maybe one day something might change is not his fault. It was her choice. Why Yunlan should feel like shit bc of that I do not get personally.

I'm just buffled bc like Haru for example is the most caring about other ppl's pain person, but they call him selfish and rude bc of the way he is with Makoto at times, not even realising that it IS in fact what means being kind sometimes.. to not give someone a chance when you know you don't feel it. I was always saying this like since forever, being kind doesn't mean for example giving everyone second chances, loving everyone, wanting to be friends with anyone etc. In some situations it's not being kind, it's being stupid or even not being a good person. Once again... offering someone friendship after he openly dissed your friend and you see that he's not in any position to talk back is not kind. Or if someone cheats on you constantly, but you always forgive them it's also not you being kind. It's you being stupid. Sometimes you have to be harsh. It's for the greater good.

And like I saw several times stuff like someone under scenes where Rin has his eyes for Haru only, commenting like "oh great, look at Rin being inconsiderate of Sousuke's feelings again. Can't believe you guys find this romantic." I mean, if in their opinion Sousuke is in pain from being Rin's friend, he can end it, it's his choice. It's not Rin's fault that he thinks of him as just his friend. So thinking that Rin is an asshole bc each time he simply hangs out with Sousuke he's a selfish bitch is fucking insane. I'd feel extremely bad if my best friend was seeing it this way for example. It's like hella ugly.

This annoys me also bc of the fact that Rin, the person who at the age of 12 single-handedly saved his family from falling apart after his father's death, who's an amazing friend to Sousuke and did everything to make his happy after he found out about his trauma and always checks on him first and cries about his shoulder, who in the late evenings taught Rei to swim, when everyone else gave up already xD, who was looking after Nitori during his training, who pretends to walk the same road, just because he's scared to let Gou return alone in the evenings, the most amazing son and brother, is suddenly an asshole just because Haru is in love with him, but not with Makoto. I mean, thats just... huh? Like I dont mind you ship what you want to ship, it's like to each their own crayons for real. But like dissing them and call them selfish just bc they only see their friends as friends and don't want anything more is weird to me.

As for the fact that bc of the misunderstanding they don't deserve to be happy, that's just idiotic. I mean, lets punish Wei Wuxian and Lan Zhan too just bc Lan Zhan couldn't voice his real feelings back then and bc WWX misunderstood him. Lets ship WWX with Wen Ning instead. Nezumi is cancelled, he doesn't deserve to be with Shion. He left him. Takano should stay with Yokozawa, Onodera is trash. Wu Xie is trash for wanting to be with Zhang Qiling too. It doesn't matter why he leaves, it only matters that he always does. I can't believe he doesn't see that Pangzi is there with him all along xD. What an ungrateful trash of a human being I can't even.

And anyways btw both Rin and Haru are not ideal human beings in any way (otherwise I wouldn't love them this much tbh xD). But their flaws are definitely not what for example mh shippers usually blame them for. You can argue about their other imperfections easily. Like being stupidly stubborn for example. I won't point fingers here, Haru lolz. Or literally anything else.

My point is you can find what to trash them for logically, if you wanna. Do it smartly tho. Otherwise you make your ship look bad.

And I once again say what wise person said about his relationships and about the fact that not being able with someone he loves hurt him and 'why is he doing this to himself' he answered: "it's not on him. my happiness and my pain is for me to handle". Everyone decides for themselves. This is why for example Haru was so broken about voicing this to Rin and didn't have any intentions to tell him that in the first place. Bc it's not right, if you're not sure that it's requited. Technically he has no right to blame Rin for making him fall in love with him and then leaving in the first place. It's not Rin's fault really, that he made him feel what he feels for him, it's ultimately Haru's problem. That's why he feels has no right to blame him in the first place. I mean, he doesn't know that Rin feels the same, that means saying to him "you break my heart each time you leave" and making him feel bad about it is technically wrong. That's why Haru to himself said "no, please, don't say such things to him". Everyone for himself decides who deserves your 5, 7, 800 or 10000 years of your pain. It's your decision. It's your life. If Haru feels like Rin is worth it, then you have no say in that matter really. The only reason we call Rin an idiot or Haru an idiot is because we know they feel the same, so we can. But blame someone else for not feeling what you're feeling is not right.

So like even if you feel like Makoto and Sousuke have feelings for their friends, blaming Haru and Rin for having feelings for each other and not for them is beyond weird. And there's nothing wrong with putting someone you love first, every bro/sis gets it. You can say bros before hoes all you want, but like Lan Zhan might just drop his bro for his hoe, if he was given a choice. Would it make him a bad person? The fact that Wu Xie chose to save Xiaoge before Pangzi makes his a bad person? My point is it's not all that easy.

I just feel like many ppl in this fandom are very weird about many things. Either because they do not get what it's like to go through some things or maybe they just do not get that no matter how cheesy this sounds love is not that simple. I mean, for example not all selfish is bad, sometimes like in Haru's case for example not being selfish is also bad. Bc if he finally asks for what he wants, he will make both himself AND Rin happy.

To be angry at Rin bc of the aftermath of his father's death and s1 I never had it in me, after knowing everything and how adults handled it. If some of Sousuke's fans bc of Yakusoku and the fact that Rin found his salvation in Haru bc he helped him to move forward after getting his family out of this hell alone and that Haru was the safe haven that made him happy in this moment of his life, want to trash Rin for the fact that he "neglected" Sousuke, its like your opinion. I personally do not get it. Rin doesn't owe Sousuke anything. It's not his fault again that Haru's existence helped him to feel better.

Just like not everyone will get why Haru in 1x12 was so happy about the fact that he could help Rin. To be that special somebody for someone who can "save" you in moments of your life like this, especially if you love them is an incredible feeling. And no, your bestie isn't always the person for this job, no. I don't see why people do not get that I guess, that's all. But we all have our own opinion on everything, so...

We same as you do not get it since forever, but its like it is what it is in this fandom. I personally just have another life position on stuff, so I'm very far from that point of view they have.
