Thank you for your questions. Before answering, I'd like to tell you again how much I enjoy your fics. Your Kacy Hunger Games AU is amazing and very inspiring.

How did you get into graphics / gif making?

I became interested in graphics and gif-making when I joined the Clexa fandom and Tumblr a few years ago. Here's my first gifset. I was sooooo into clexa and I wanted to contribute to the community and express my enthusiasm. Unfortunately, I'm not very good at writing, so I decided to create gifs and graphics instead.

36. Graphic makers, how do you get started on a graphic? (How do you get an idea!)

I get ideas from basically everything, lol. It could be a quote, an analysis someone wrote about a character or a scene, a color, or a picture... For example, this set came from the first gif. I love Whistler's look, her profile, her hair, everything about it. I wanted to create something with it. I made a list of what I felt or thought while watching it. Several weeks later, I associated it with a quote. Choosing the other scenes was easy. I selected the effects (fading from black and white to colors, red border, etc.) to illustrate Kate's evolution from a sad and isolated place to a happy and loved one.

Regardless of the starting point, the most crucial part for me is always translating ideas and feelings into visual elements such as colors, effects, and fonts. Most of the time, the solutions come out of nowhere, often when I let my mind wander (sorry, not very useful for other gifmakers :(

37. Gif/graphic makers, what do you feel is a must in every gif/graphic?

Tough question.

I believe that achieving the right balance and using the correct color shades are essential. When feelings and ideas are conveyed effectively, even without the use of many colors or effects, the result can be stunning and impactful. All the gifs in the set should complement each other to create overall harmony.

I'm very sensitive to colors. I changed the shade of Kate's shirt in a few gifsets, like this one, because I couldn't stand the original color. It's a very personal preference :)

Yes, it took me almost a week to sit and finish the spinoff since I knew it was so different from what I wanted, and apart from that 1 mention there's no sight of Sergio. Have you finished the spinoff yet? I too watched that moment and felt nostalgic before rewatching some of their scenes and the obsession returned :'D

Oof me too, I'll never forget watching that scene for the first time, Sergio's tears and screams were so heartbreaking, and just the fact that we only find out they are brothers WHILE ONE OF THEM IS DYING IS SO CRUEL! The Bella Ciao scene is forever in my heart, as well as the hug, love the way you phrased it "the quiet happiness when they see each other again" Sergio always looks so content when he's hugging Andrés, and one detail that kills me is that Sergio with other people (except Raquel later on) is someone who is not at all comfortable with physical affection, he's always awkward and stiff but with his brother? He's the one to pull Andrés in for a hug, he's the one that clings harder, he loved him so much and man they deserved better!

(pt 2) All the scenes you mentioned are my favourites too!!! Guantanamera scene is such a comfort scene, despite the sadness I love how Andrés is trying to make his hermanito smile, their adorable dance moves too, they are so precious ;___; LOL that monastery scene is such a BROTHERS moment, never fails to make me laugh. I'm glad it doesn't feel weird, I'm a little shy which is why I took some time before replying too but I loved reading your words abt the hermanos! I haven't finished the spin-off yet, I'm actually still stuck at the scene where Andrés mentions Sergio lol but I will get back to it sooner or later! Also I love that that scene had the same effect on you!

I know, right?! While watching part 1 and 2 I kept wondering about their relationship, because they knew each other's name (if I recall correctly we learn the professor's name right when Andrés uses it in the Bella Ciao scene) and they clearly knew each other prior the heist, not to mention Berlín being so affectionate with him (ruffling his hair, hugging him!) and Sergio clearly valuing his advice... I was really there like "what's going on here what's going on" and THEN they dropped the little brother bomb right before Berlín's death. I will never recover from that.

You're so right, Sergio is so thoroughly comfortable with physical affection from Andrés, it stands out and it melts my heart! And on Andrés' part, well, his character is very... um, how can I put this, Unhinged Bastard Man?, but he can get so soft with his little brother and I'm very weak for it.

I couldn't agree more about the Guantanamera scene! Like, yeah, there's clearly grief in there, especially in how Sergio (who just learned about Andrés' diagnosis) is looking at his brother, but it's still such a comfort scene, with their love for each other and their silly dance moves!

Heh, exactly, that monastery moment is like ultimate proof they're brothers and it's so funny!

Hello Hanyi how are you? Hope that everything is okay and that your days are happy 🩷 You are a huge inspiration to me and I admire you so much. I wanted to ask for your advice or maybe for you to just read this, i need to tell this. How do you find inspiration for a new project (gifset)? Where do you usually find it and what things motivate you? I'm feeling really sad and unmotivated because my sets have less notes every time 😿 the last few reblogs on my sets are self reblogs. I know not everybody has to like what I do, and that I should do it for myself. But one of the main reasons I do gifs is to share, and for the other people to enjoy too. But my last three sets haven't reach 200 notes, the last ones not even 100. It's been weeks since someone reblogged from me, i'm just so sad, gifs is the way i found to express myself and I don't wanna lose that.

I don't know what to say besides thank you; I'm hardly the most encouraging or talented or patient person around here, and I'd never think I'd be a source of inspiration or admiration for anyone. it really made my day when I saw that!

a lot of (if not most of) the time, I get inspired by other creations I see here! I tag things that inspire me in different ways (layout, concept, typography, quote, etc.), and sometimes when I know I want (or need) to make something but have no idea what to do, I just go back to those tags and trawl around and pray something hits me ∠( ᐛ 」∠)_ a lot of people here are unbelievably talented and I'd kill for even an ounce of that (tbvh it's kind of embarrassing the extent to which I learn from and get inspired by other people, really most of the stuff I make aren't original original)

please, please don't get discouraged! I definitely feel that tumblr in recent days has gotten a lot more... disheartening, in terms of response. when I first started making gifsets a couple of years back in the thick of the plague, it was so much easier to get a really good response and a high note count even though the quality of my stuff back then was absolute trash. these days, getting even over 100 seems like a miracle, let alone 200. it's all the tougher since I rarely do scene-only gifsets as shows air (it bores and stresses me out at the same time), and it's painful and disheartening that complicated edits tend to do worse than scene-only sets, even though they take a lot more time and effort to do.

and you're right! at this point, despite this, I'm doing it mostly for myself too, and I've learned to brush it off and not check back at the notes at all. these days, it kinda feels like I'm tossing my posts into the wide world and after I schedule my self-reblogs, they're just out there fending for themselves (ノ°∀°)ノ⌒･*:.｡. .｡.:*･゜ﾟ･*☆

I'd be lying if I said it didn't bother me, because it did, and sometimes, it still does. but I try to focus more on the few people who appreciate and enjoy the things I make, no matter how few they are in number, and it really, really makes my day when they leave nice comments in the tags, no matter how few notes that set gets ( ´ ꒳ ` )

I don't regret learning how to make and edit gifs, because it has been an outlet for me to express myself as well and I've met a lot of new people through it. but as much as I'd love to encourage you to continue pushing yourself and learning new skills, it's good to also take a break for a little while if the responses gets too disheartening; I'm trying to slow down as well (I haven't been getting much response these days either anyway) and take the chance to spend some of my life outside tumblr and photoshop. maybe, it would help and be a little breather, instead of abandoning this hobby completely just because of the poor response you're getting, which I really hope you wouldn't do especially if it's something that you enjoy and find meaning in

I'm not sure if this will help in any way, but I hope it does give you some solace that what you're experiencing is not something that's happening to you alone; I've seen so many posts by content creators here (gifmakers and editors alike) about how response is getting more and more lacklustre despite all their effort, and the general lack of motivation >_< as disheartening as it is, it makes me all the more appreciative of the things that the people who remain do and the communities that we've fostered here.

This is a Grissom-centric GSR song gifset. This needs a lot of explanation, and I have done that, but it's very long-winded, so it's all after Keep Reading

To start with, the song is No I Will Not by Blacklite District

Overall, the song is about how someone has to work very hard, and he's very good at what he does and doesn't want to stop; it's just that so much work means he can spend less time with his loved ones, who feel the drag. But the person promises that he will make time for them, and soon.

The words are not meant for one particular period on the GSR timeline (except that they are pre-CSI Vegas); rather, the scenes I chose are just examples of instances that suit the particular line, and indeed, instances that are repeated throughout the series, because the journey of GSR is rocky but in the same ways like that.

The context of the first gif is awry, since it has nothing to do with Sara. I intended for it to be paired with the second gif, because it is that rollercoaster ride that "got [him] thinking oh so clearly". As for the rest, we'll go through them by breaking the lines down:

"It was never enough, the view from above, got me thinking oh so clearly but I still put on the gloves" -> Sara has expressed clearly what she wants from Gil, and he has the space and opportunity to take her words into consideration, but he ultimately always chose to "put on the gloves" and stay ever committed to his work. (A fun bonus is that putting on gloves to work can be applied to CSIs in the most literal sense.)

"And that's a far cry, from what we thought being innocent when you consider all the blood we spent" -> Okay, this one is more difficult to explain. I guess I should begin from the common starting point we all have: the gif (the contrast of which would be my own thinking which no one but I am privy to, making it infinitely more unexplainable). Rain-soaked sad boi (to quote @addictedtostorytelling ) hanging his head and looking like he found out his father passed away all over again is one visual representation of all the regret a CSI* can feel picking through case after case, wading through the lives of the deceased and the people who knew them; that certainly takes a toll on them.

* In the context of the work affecting relationships, Gil is the CSI who is it the hardest. While it is true that the work impedes the other CSIs from having relationships, it is worse to have had one only for it to be taken away. And one particular point on "And that's a far cry, from what we thought being innocent" is that...'innocent' here can refer to something being harmless and non-consequential; Gil thought that it was okay for him to keep up whatever he was doing with Sara, but he turned out to be utmostly wrong.

It fits with 'you'll see' because that's something he has always wanted to prove to Sara, and now he is going to.

Shhh! I'm trying to develop a good habit here. These are mostly notes to self. For my stuff to become less chaotic, you know?

ONE - I've... I've started three, THREE new series in November (ohforfckssakeeee!).

a) First one is an ode to early seasons aesthetics Posting 'em twice a week (synchronised with my rewatch schedule). So far enjoooying making a set of examples of shadowplay/desat colours/overall dark vibes on DW face in every episode. Like this 🔥:

b) Second one is an attentive observation on how our baby Dean (read: s1-3/pre-Hell/pre-Cas) behaves near men. Tiny little sexuality questioning gifsets. Trying to post at least once a week (again, rewatch schedule!). Enjoying making. Too much. I mean, look that disaster:

c) Fckin THE HARDEST thing I've ever done. These fic moodboard sets are so much joy to create! But dear God, the amount of TIME and thought and nerves it takes...... Anyway, this is my personal tribute to the most honourable and hardworking (imo) people of our fandom - beloved ❤️ fic writers. Already posted two. One for my #1 beloved "Ninety One Whiskey"

And second for my #2 beloved "Four Letter Word"

And have one more in my drafts for #3. 😇 Most likely will continue to make these, although it really makes me very sad they don't get many notes... But... Well, I love what I love! OVERALL: 35 gifsets, 3 new series, 1 fic and fcking ZERO poems (that one up doesn't count, I think!) Pretty happy with gifmaking but... Guess gotta focus on writing next month!

Content creators get a lot less recognition than they deserve for all the time they put into their content, so getting everyone to see the (sometimes excessive) process we all go through to put our content in our blog, I hope it creates a positive change!! 💖

1. Planning

The set in question was actually requested by someone so they could celebrate their friend’s birthday! At first I wasn’t entirely sure if I was going to be able to finish it on time (college is very hectic right now) but I was able to finish it three days before the deadline which was may 1st! ^-^

The first thing I did was decide what characters I wanted to use in the set, I first reached out to the person who requested the set if there were certain characters they wanted me to use but they said they didn’t know enough to really give me any directives outside of the quote. I decided, since the quote is applicable to the entirety of the show, that I would try to put in as many characters as possible.

Thus, of course, came the hunting for scenes. Those of you in the net discord surely know I came into the content help channel a few times to ask for certain scenes here and there, and eventually I had to download an additional 10 episodes to the back then 20 or so episodes I had in my CQL episodes folder.

As you can see I have 30 random episodes of CQL downloaded (slowly but surely getting to the point where I have all 50 episodes downloaded) and I think I ended up using scenes out of at least 20 of those episodes.

I planned out beforehand what characters I would use per gif. I knew obviously I would start out with Wangxian, them being the main characters of the show, and then would work my way down the list. The second gif consists of Nie Huaisang, Nie Mingjue, Jin Zixuan, Jiang Yanli, Wen Qing, and Wen Ning. They’re all family pairings, two being siblings and one being a married couple. The next gifset consists of the Yi City characters, then the fourth gif consists of the juniors, and the final gif has Jin Guangyao, Mianmian, Jiang Cheng, and Lan Xichen in it.

I have to admit though that when I had made the first four gifs I’d forgotten who I would put in the last gif and the when I thought about it the first time around I could only think of Lan Qiren and the very cursed Yaoyang ship 😭 it was only at dinner time that same day that I remembered I hadn’t put Jiang Cheng in my gifset yet and that’s when I thought of the other characters as well.

I had already made my first two gifs when I went to check Hanyi’s blog for layout inspo and eventually I decided I wanted to try a triangle-ish layout, which I doodled below. I eventually ended up changing the layout of the last gif in the final design. It was also the first time I would work with a triangle-ish layout so I was a bit nervous as I was scared it wasn’t going to work out...

2. Creating

I use Avisynth 2.5 and Adobe Photoshop 2021 (the paid version, unfortunately, I need it for school except I didn’t need it this year but I wanted it so I paid for it with my own money ouch) to make my gifsets! I always start out with trimming down all the scenes I’m going to use into three to five second videos and putting them through Avisynth. This time around I did it separately for each gif I made, simply because I needed so many scenes. I would include a screenshot of my “gif vids” and “temp” folders but I’ve already deleted all the videos, which is what I usually do immediately after a set is posted.

I’ll try my best explaining this gif by gif since each one had a different layout!

2.1 Wangxian

I think I had up to five different designs of this gif 😭 it started out with the gif on the left originally being more centered and the quote right smack in the center but somehow it felt a bit too... empty? I changed up the design and pulled the gif over to the right and put the two closeups on the left, the exact opposite of the gif I eventually ended up with. I switched things around one more time and saved the gif as you can see it right now, except I didn’t include the lines yet. It was only as I finished up my fourth gif that I decided this gif needed lines as well so I added them ^-^

2.2 Nie Huaisang, Nie Mingjue, Jin Zixuan, Jiang Yanli, Wen Qing, and Wen Ning

I got the inspiration for the font layout on this gif from this Wenzhou post! I hadn’t tried it before and when I did for this gif I was very happy with the way it turned out :D I wanted to portray that life is a pile of good and bad things, as the quote says, in CQL by mirroring these happy scenes side by side with the sad scenes

2.3 Yi CIty

My first time working with the triangle layout!! Putting in the lines and making sure they would line up with the second gif took me the longest of all actually  😭 I think once I got the line on the left in I just copy pasted it and flipped it horizontally so I didn’t have to fiddle around with angling it anymore :’) my original idea was to get a happy Song Lan scene and a sad A-Qing scene, but when I stumbled upon this A-Qing scene in ep38 I just had to put it in there because her smile is so precious 🥺 Xue Yang and Xiao Xingchen in the center are also supposed to be mirrored, with Xue Yang embodying the “bad things” and Xiao Xingchen the “good things” ! I also think the Yi City characters fit this part of the quote very well!!

2.4 The Juniors

Ah yes, the junior quartet!! :D I had this planned out from the very beginning, that I would include happy versus sad juniors in the “vice versa” part of the quote, and I think it worked out quite well! My first idea was to put the “vice versa” completely in the special font and have it typed out over the gifs like I did with the “vice” but as I typed out the “versa” I realized it had one letter too much to be able to do that 😭😭 it took me a while to come up with how I would position the “but” and “versa” and after some moving around I decided to just place them the way I did in the final gif! For the font, I duplicated the “vice” and added a stroke to the duplicate, then I changed the fill setting to 0% so I could slightly drag the duplicate away from the original layer to create the effect that’s in the gif — also, finding a scene in which Jin Ling smiles is really difficult.... he barely even smiles in the scene I ended up using :(

2.5 Jin Guangyao, Mianmian, Jiang Cheng, and Lan Xichen

The final gif!! I feel like this might come a little across as “I promise I didn’t forget these characters” because they’re a very odd quadruplet to put together, but they were the most important characters left to put in the set! I was thinking of putting Nie Mingjue in here together with Jin Guangyao and Lan Xichen, but I did feel he fit more with his brother up in the second gif. Mei @mylastbraincql​ cheered me on making this gif for which I was very grateful :D <3 the layout came to be after I googled “how to evenly split a rectangle in four” because I didn’t want a repeat layout in the set  (*/∇＼*)

2.6 Coloring

For the coloring I pretty much did all of the tweaking on the first gif and then copy pasted all of it onto the second, third, fourth, and fifth gif. This is usually the way I go about my coloring, I will always edit certain gifs if necessary but I don’t think I had to change the coloring much on any of these gifs? Maybe I added in a curve layer here and there, but nothing major! This is really one of my preferred coloring styles, even though I try to step outside of my comfort zones with other sets ^-^

3. Posting

I will always upload sets into my drafts and edit the caption in there as well, clicking on “preview post” a couple times to check everything looks good on my blog as well, before I post a set. However, this time, since there was a deadline and I finished before the deadline, I put this set in the queue so it would automatically post on the 1st of may! Knowing myself, I would’ve forgotten to do so </3

Whew that was... a lot 😭 did it make any sense? Probably not, but it was fun to ramble （ ´∀｀）
