here's all the tv i watched in 2023: (-) is something i watched with someone else (*) is something i watched alone
- his dark materials s3 * the last of us s1 * succession s1-4 - the legend of vox machina s2 - physical 100 (didn't/probably won't finish) - iron chef mexico (didn't/probably won't finish) - shadow and bone s2 - queer eye s7 - jimmy o yang: guess how much? - american born chinese s1 * yellowjackets s1 (didn't/probably won't finish) * jujutsu kaisen s2 (didn't but WILL finish) - good omens s2 - heartstopper s1-2 - farming for love (didn't but probably will finish) - over the garden wall - our flag meets death s2 - tian guan ci fu s2 (didn't finish, i think this is still airing?) - blue eye samurai s1
i also rewatched inside and some of arcane. my roommate and i have also been slowly, slowly making our way through both neverafter and candela obscura. and i went to go see hamilton live this year, which was pretty fun, and doesn't really fit into this post but i definitely don't have a need for a 2023 musical theatre wrap up
the stand out show for me this year was definitely blue eye samurai, i don't think i could've asked for a more perfectly crafted show. i still really enjoyed heartstopper s2 as well but it wasn't as exciting of an adaptation as s1? which really felt like it went above and beyond the source material. most everything else was fine or fun to watch but i don't think i'll be thinking of them this time next year

shows watched in 2022
Because why not. I like making lists I have negative-use for. Feel free to compare with the to-watch list I made recently lol.
The first list is for things I’m up-to-date with (some are/will likely be stuff I started before 2022, but that I finished/caught up with this year). Bold for those that are all finished, italics for those I’m following in real time. The second list is for those I’ve started but where I have ways to go (in some cases, a lot).
All caught up with:
A League of Their Own
Arcane
Grey's Anatomy
Harley Quinn
Russian Doll
Severance
The Gilded Age
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
The Sex Lives of College Girls
What We Do in the Shadows
The Umbrella Academy
Wednesday
Finalized
Batwoman
Battlestar Galactica miniseries
Charmed reboot
Derry Girls
Desperate Housewives
Dynasty
First Kill

I realize its wildly different content with totally different context but rewatching some Kim’s Convenience S1 episodes, and the dynamic between Jung and his father just....ignites all the Bruce and Dick feels.
That episode where Umma is talking to Janet and she’s like “Do you know why your Appa always rushes to see who it is who’s walked in the store everytime the bell rings?” And Janet’s like “Yeah he wants to make sure he knows where everyone in the store is in case someone steals something,” but her mom’s like “No, its because every time, he’s hoping to see its your brother, coming home.”
And then at the end of that same episode, Appa and Umma are lying in bed and he’s asking her if she thinks he was too strict raising Janet, and she tells him no, she thinks he was just the right amount of strict with her, and then he hesitates, and she flat out asks him “Is there anything else you want to ask me” and she’s like walking him right up to the very threshold of opening the door to the inevitable followup question of “Do you think I was too strict with Jung” but he can’t bring himself to ask it, because he’s already answered it for himself......uggggh.
But the episode that always kills me, resurrects me through arcane rituals and then brutally murders me all over again in less than twenty minutes, is the one where Kimchee goes to the store to borrow Appa’s tools from Janet but runs into him instead, and so he comes back to their apartment to help Kimchee fix the toilet himself.....and the whole time, Appa’s looking around the whole apartment, taking everything in, asking questions about Kimchee’s roommate which he in turn dances around answering because like......the only reason Appa’s there is because this is his son’s childhood best friend, he might not have spoken to his son in eight years but he knows damn well who Kimchee’s roommate is and that it can’t possibly be anyone else, and Kimchee knows that Appa knows who his roommate is, and the awareness of that is this huge pink elephant in the room the entire episode while Appa helps fix his son’s toilet and like just.......absorbs every second of being in Jung’s living space because this is the closest he’s been to him in a decade and its just like OWWWWWWW.
And then because that isn’t brutal enough, when they finish fixing the toilet and are having a celebratory moment about that and APPA ACCIDENTALLY CALLS KIMCHEE “JUNG” INSTEAD AND THEY BOTH JUST FREEZE.....FAHLFHFAKLHFLHLFHAFLFHALKFA.
