Star Wars: Resistance S1 -- so this show isn't as bad as i thought it'd be?? it's definitely geared towards younger kids and has a lot of silly humour. but idk so long as you don't have high expectations for it then it's quite enjoyable! i LOVE Kaz (baby boy. BABY.) and pretty well all of the other characters too!

The Rings of Power S1&S2 -- i avoided S1 because LOTR is my favourite trilogy of all time and the "buzz" online seemed negative. then S2 came out and my mom wanted to watch it with me so we did. silly me, i should know by now to ignore the ridiculous haters online and just try things for myself. the negativity is overblown. No, it's not perfect. i have some gripes with it. but overall it was wonderful to be immersed in Middle Earth again!! also it's well worth the watch just for the Dwarf parts!! my favourite parts honestly!

Shōgun -- sometimes shows and movies that win big awards turn out to be not that great, or not my thing. Shogun deserved every Emmy award it got! it's an excellent and beautiful show!!

Agatha All Along -- what a wonderful surprise!!! i debated watching it because i wasn't sure if i "cared enough" about Agatha to watch a whole series. but it's not just about Agatha but other witches as well and i fell in love with ALL of them!! (Patti Lupone's character and "episode" is top tier writing.) i think i also love it in the way i love Moonknight, in that it's "connected" to the MCU but is a perfectly amazing show in its own right. if you loved Wandavision, it has a lot of similar elements to that and it's a true and perfect followup to that show. definitely check it out!!!

Finished my rewatch of Arcane S1 and I think I had forgotten just how incredible it actually was. Now I'm more pumped than ever for the next one!!!

its so sad. like im rewatching s2 act 1 and i can feel the writing quality gap. for s1 every moment fits together consistently like perfect puzzle pieces. s2 is still great but not *arcane* great which is weird to say bcs this show *is* arcane. i need to know which writer was responsible for making all the storylines and povs in s1 so artfully interwoven & wonder if there's smthg ab s2 that pissed them off enough to leave the writers room

I think yall understimate how much writing lives in editing, like they had seven years to clean up season 1 but s2 went into production before they finished writing the script. season 1 is probably like draft #150 we're watching and s2 is draft #5. if they actually planned 5 seasons and had to fit 4 seasons worth of plot into one season then this is basically an impossible task to make it seamless and not rushed and expanded upon properly AND not have clunky ass lines - basically I think arcane got sacrificed a bit on the altar of league of legends cinematic universe and riots financial decisions

this is the part that scares me. these would be the episodes they finished writing before production so there could be an actual atrocity on the horizon girls I don't know what's coming

i also rewatched inside and some of arcane. my roommate and i have also been slowly, slowly making our way through both neverafter and candela obscura. and i went to go see hamilton live this year, which was pretty fun, and doesn't really fit into this post but i definitely don't have a need for a 2023 musical theatre wrap up

the stand out show for me this year was definitely blue eye samurai, i don't think i could've asked for a more perfectly crafted show. i still really enjoyed heartstopper s2 as well but it wasn't as exciting of an adaptation as s1? which really felt like it went above and beyond the source material. most everything else was fine or fun to watch but i don't think i'll be thinking of them this time next year
