My pile 4's energy is different, I think this person could be older than you? This person overall isn't someone who's very cuddly or could even be very hard to read so moments like these really show that side of them in their own way?

I can see Astarion lording his power as yuu's "sibling" (if that bit is canon) over the others like "I'm their sibling, I get a say on who they're dating." Only for the other tadpoles to be like "dude we know by now that was a lie lmao ur not actually their 'big brother'" and then he goes off to sulk in a corner.

On Astarion, I could see him approving of Vil, Azul and the Tweels? Based on his reaction to Ethel/general goofy blood-lust (lol literally) maybe the tweels would be his favourites as teens he can tolerate, whether or not yuu should be dating them though... I can also see him, on one hand relating to jamil's struggles as a servant, and on another hand being pissy, because what's he got to complain about Kalim is annoying but seems to treat him well/put too much faith in him, back in His day the masters you rebelled against were horrible people (we get it astarion you have trauma). I can see him being slightly wary of Malleus, and simultaneously going "holy shit yuu get that bag!!! He's rich as fuck it doesn't matter if you actually like him, marry him for the money! (And then kill him)" Riddle would definitely annoy him, quite frankly I think a lot of the nrc boys would, though I think Rook would be highest on his list of "get the absolute fuck away from me and that tiefling kid I totally dont care about rn".

I can see Gale quite approving of Trey, bc cooking/baking skills, plus he just seems like such a nice young chap! The teeth thing is a little odd but hey we all have strange interests! I think Deuce's heartfelt will to be a better person for his mother would probably strike a chord in him too, he might try and take the poor boy under his wing lol.

Shadowheart is tricky to me, but maybe Jamil? Or Vil? Both are sort of trying to get away from their past and become greater, maybe that would resonate with her. Plus theyre both kinda catty as well. Tbh I just feel like she'd sit in the background sipping wine and making pointed remarks at almost all of them lol. Pretwnds shes above getting invested in teen drama but is always conveniently nearby whenever vil and leona are arguing. (So is Astarion.) Ace might be good actually, as a trickster who is rather mean to everyone, including yuu, but is also impressively ride ir die/protective of them (remember when he punched riddle for being mean to yuu in twst canon? He's a softies for his friends I just know it) Tbh I think either someone she can tease, or someone she can get into a playful bitch-fit with would be good in her book as long as they're treating yuu right.

Lae'zel approves of none of them. They are all distractions from her Gi's training and all are unworthy. They cannot even best the owlbear in single combat. (Imagine her making an offhand comment and some of the more foolhardy boys take this as a challenge lol) Floyd makes a comment about "squeezing his shrimpy" and Lae'zel immidiently instructs yuu on how to crush his ass flat. On one hand, I don't think she'd react well to him calling them food. (From her perspective lol) On the other hand, since physically fighting your lover seems to be a thing for gith, maybe she'd approve of the "courting method" (even if he meant it fully platonically lmao). I think if anyone, Jack's seriousness and drive to improve himself through training might fufill the "bare minimum" for her. Sebeck's loud devotion to Malleus might remind herself of what she was like with Vlakeeth, I wonder how that dynamic would go. Actually she might rather like him, he's trained in combat (silver would be a contender, but his sleeping problem would probably make him unreliable in her eyes), and her and Sebeck sort of speak the same language in a sense, with the whole "I am superior to you and will give you backhanded compliments whenever I try to say smth nice". The fact that he's a dragonborn might help too, from what I remember of Lae's dialouge when I played as one she warmed up to me quicker I think lol. Actually, I wonder if Lae'zel would outright remind Yuu of Sebeck, since the more I think about it the more they seem kinda similar.

I think Wyll would probably like Jack too, along with Deuce, the pair of good boys. He would be able to bond a bit with Deuce over knowing what its like to dissapoint a parent, though his case was much more severe. I think he would absolutely be wary of Azul, considering the whole deal maker thing (especially if magical contracts were brought into play), though honestly I think any boy could win him over of they prove to be genuinely interested in yuu and treating them well lol. Actually, maybe he could resonate with Leona a bit on struggling to live up to parental expectations? Though he'd probably try to gently encourage him to like take up a non-destructive hobby or something.

Oh my god I can't believe I forgot Ruggie when talking abt Astarion. Astarion Absolutely approves of/likes Ruggie. Scratch the tweels, that's his new favourite lol.

I can see Karlach as being similar to Wyll, where she ultimately doesn't rly care abt how yuu is dating as long as the person in question treats them right. Though I can see her really getting along with Kalim, as fellow upbeat party people (aside from the culture shock between rich and poor lol), though I can also see her gently trying to nudge him to become more independent for his own sake lol. (If they're somehow meeting the twst boys pre end of journey, you cannot tell me they don't both think it's a good idea for kalim to use his um on her to try and cool her down, if ums r a thing here lol). I can see her finding Riddle stressful to be honest, why is this small red child giving her homework? She's an adult, and she'd rather not have to read a book of 810 rules today, thank you. She might not say that directly to his face though. I can see her being... wary? A little concerned of boys who appear friendly but you just know are hiding smth, especially if they're rich/business folk cough cough gortash cough cough. (Can't wait to see how yuu reacts to him lmao). I imagine her finding the first year's sweet, since they seem to be such a bonded group lol.

Halsin is another one where I feel like it doesn't rly matter much to him as long as yuu is happy :). Though maybe any boys who are druids may have an edge?

Minthara (if here) approves of absolutely none of them. They are all men, absolutely not. If you really must have a date, yuu, come with her and you two can scope out some more worthy options.

Overall I would like to speculate that, from most to least picky/judgemental abt yuu's dating life, would be: Minthara (If present), Lae'zel, Astarion, Shadowheart, Wyll, Gale, Karlach, Halsin.

Though imagining the eventual reaction of the twst boys to yuu coming home from a horrifying adventure with 6-8 new familial figures is funny.

Do you have any thoughts on what grim is in this au? Would be funny if he was like, a baby tressym for Tara to fuss over. Or maybe an actual powerful wizard cursed to live in the body of a cat? Who knows.

Yuu comes back from their lifechanging quest to save the world like: "hey guys!! I'm a proper bard now :))" and all their nrc friends are like. "That's cool yuu. Who are all those wierd looking adults behind you that are staring into our souls and where did you get those animals from."

Actually it might be funny if each bg3 companion resonated with one dorm, though I would say it's kinda unrealistic lol. But my organisation brain loves it. Astarion obvi has to be Octoville, Lae'zel I think would work for either Diasomnia or Savanaclaw (both have aspects I think she would like but I also think she'd have issues with certain people), Karlach is Scarabia and not just bc fire=hot, but bc I just think she would vibe so hard with Kalim. She might have a little brother now who's to say. I think Gale could work well with Indihyde (how did I not mention idia in his section. The isolation from ppl/general wasting away alone, I think gale would probably actually take this one under his metaphorical wing and try to gently push idia out of his comfort zone, to the poor boy's discomfort) Wyll is tricky, maybe Diasomnia? Or heartsaybul?? Honestly I have no idea. Shadowheart also stumps me a bit, bit probably Pomifore. Halsin is probably Savanaclaw tbh, and Minthara (again if here), really only would work with Pomifore. That's based more off the vibes of the dorm than the actual characters in them though. Actually, maybe Gale would see the Queen of Hearts rules as a fun little challenge/cultural exchange sort of thing, maybe one of the only ones in the bg3 group who would be excited about and genuinely try to memorise them all. He'd also call out when the others slip up, much to everyone (specifically Astarion)'s annoyance.

While Astarion getting to pretend to be the insufferable elder brother he was destined to be is part of an AU focusing on him as the “player” character, I will tell you for free that he and Yuu manage to keep up the sibling act at least until Act 2, when the Shadow-Cursed lands’ lack of nutrition forces them to come clean about the whole “vampire” thing.

Gale, Shadowheart, and Wyll are scandalized. Karlach’s half convinced they’re still related somehow. Lae’zel doesn’t understand what sib-lings are and doesn’t want to.

But no, yeah, I personally headcanon that Astarion is the one who overhears Yuu defending themself from Withers’ questioning of their single status by claiming they’re interested in someone from their old mercenary group rather than any of their current companions…

And once that little tidbit gets shared around the tadpole, and sundry members of that mercenary group start popping up in the Shadow-Cursed lands and in Baldur’s Gate?

Let’s just say Yuu is receiving a lot of unsolicited advice on their taste in men and who is suitable enough to date them.

(Yes, Minthara is there. I accidentally knocked her out because I forgot to turn off the setting after Ethel’s lair, saved her to help bust the prisoners out of Moonrise, and then was weak to puppy-dog eyes when Yuu tried to tell her “I’m still mad about the attempted murder over the grove, go away”. Halsin took being kicked out of his tent with exceptional grace.)

Also Malleus is a black dragon who’s just reached the age where he can take on a human form, though he’s not quite mastered hiding his horns, tail, or various scales depending on his emotions. Astarion and Karlach both get deja vu when they meet him…

The Night Raven mercenaries, for their part, also have opinions about Yuu’s new travelling companions.

These tend to range from excited (“Ah, Yuu, these are the guys you’re travelling with now?! It’s great to meet you!! Hey, hey, Jamil, we should throw a party to celebrate!”) to curious (“Eh, Shrimpy, are you sure these guys are strong? Maybe I should put ‘em through their paces t’ make sure, ehhehehe~”) to opportunistic (“So now that you’re a hero, you won’t go forgetting any of your old buddies, right? It’s good to help out the less fortunate, shihihi.”) to wary (“Y-Y-Yuu-sshi, you do know th-that’s a githyanki, right?? And a devil?? And a vampire, and a Sharran?!? I don't know what I am gonna type out here or even if it will make sense. A lot has happened in the last 3 years since the time I started to question my sexuality. I will try to put it into words and keep it short (I did not in fact keep it short and I am sorry for that but you don't have to read through this messy story).

So first, my exposure to queer media. During lockdown I started reading Percy Jackson books where they mentioned the hunters of Artemis, one of the conditions to join them is that you have to take an oath to turn your back on company of men and any kind of romantic approach from any gender or sexuality. I found that idea interesting and I thought to myself how hard could that be, if that's the condition I would happily join them in an instant? When scrolling through some posts about hunters of Artemis I came across the term aro/ace. At that time I didn't think much of it. I never had a crush on anyone and I always thought it was because I was too young to be interested in romance (I was 14 at the time) and assumed that everyone my age was like that, note that it was lockdown so I wasn't going to school which is why I didn't know about the crushes and romantic interests of kids my age. So, the whole lockdown was the time when I became very interested in the queer community, I saw several posts on pinterest regarding this and made a board and thought of myself as merely an ally.

Then schools opened and there were couples all around. I was like gotta focus on studies, don't have time for this, blah blah blah. Also, that year a lot of other shit happened and the pressure of exams and getting good grades was taking toll on my mental health. I was too busy breaking down every other day because of that pressure to think about anything else.

Anyways that shit passed, I was in 11th grade and then came the real sexuality crisis. Some new students transferred to our school and one of them became really close friend. She got a boyfriend and started spending more time with him (which is bound to happen I know now but past me was experiencing it all for the first time) and I felt left out because now we were spending less time together and even when we were together she mostly talked about him. Tbh I was jealous and I thought this was a crush. I thought I liked her (romantically) and I thought a lot about the whole "turn your back on company of men" and came to the conclusion that I am not interested in men still and not even women but just her. That's when I also learnt about demiromanticism and it did click a lot of things in place for me. Like I always thought that the idea of love at first sight was unrealistic when it was shown in movies and questioned how can you fall in love without knowing a person properly and also believed that you need to be really close to a person to actually know them, so overall that term resonated with me. I knew I was asexual but at this point I started to dive more into the concept of aromanticism and the whole spectrum. I was convinced that I had a crush on her. Again a lot of shit happened and I realised that it wasn't a crush, my feelings weren't romantic, it was purely platonic and I was jealous because I became very close with her and suddenly the focus of our friendship shifted from us to him, I was very emotionally attached to her as well because I haven't had a friendship like that in a long time so when she became entirely focused on her boyfriend, I felt like an outsider. It took me a whole ass year to figure this out. And in between that time I gaslighted myself into thinking that I had a crush on this another guy because she asked me if I did and I thought this is what a crush must feel like so I said yes. But as I talked more to that guy, I just, idk how to describe it but it was not exactly comfortable for me, as long as we were having a normal convo about our interests I was fine and actually talked happily but when he started to flirt and I imagined myself in a romantic relationship with him, it felt weird to me, it was not something I wanted, it was just ugh. Anyways, what I realised from that time with that guy is that what I thought was romantic attraction was just me being excited to interact with a human being who was actually interested in me and gave attention to me (you can blame my childhood for that). I also kind of realised that it was how I felt about my friend. But it was more difficult for me to distinguish between romantic attraction and a wish to have a close friendship in her case because I was already emotionally attached to her. End of the story, a series of very chaotic events and break downs lead to me realising that I only wanted her as a close friend, I couldn't imagine myself in a romantic relationship with her and I was only bothered by her having a boyfriend because it momentarily threatened the close bond that we had formed. Now, everything is fine (more or less), there is more clarity between us and we are still very close. During this mess I also questioned if I was poly but I figured I am not. There's more to this crisis but I have already written a LOT so not going into the chaotic details. Sorry for making it so long.

(Edit: One more thing I realised about myself is that I was always so unaware about the supposedly romantic interactions of allos around me unless it was really obvious, blatant or put right into my face. Like even when my best friend and her boyfriend were in the flirting stage I didn't realise they were actually flirting, I just thought they were close friends and that was pretty normal thing for friends to do, so, yeah this realisation had a great hand in me figuring out I am aro. Thinking of romance in other people's life is fine but when it comes to me I find it hard) So sorry for making the post even lengthier :/

I beat Virtue's Last Reward, thoughts under the cut

-Huh?

-Okay, not huh as in "I don't understand," I get it fully, I mean "Why was this the ending?" I guess I'll have to play Zero Time Dilemma to find out huh.

-This is definitely the kinda thing I'm gonna have to spend several days processing, similar to 999

-I'm thinking a bit about how the ending of a thing can overshadow so much else in a story, like even though I've experienced the rest of the story, I'm struck by just the ending right now.

-I think all-in-all the main thing I'll say is that this game got me to feel things, it got me to love, to loathe, to betray and be betrayed. I don't think a game has done that this well for me in a good while. It's inspiring tbh. Did I mention I'm a game developer? This will definitely influence my work moving forward.

-I cannot fucking IMAGINE playing this game in 2012 and having to wait 4 years for Zero Time Dilemma to come out. Y'all were hanging on that cliff so long, and it was very possible you'd never get up. As an Ace Attorney fan living on hiatus brain, I know the feeling, but also GOD, at least Ace Attorney had a consistent flow of games when I was most into it.

-I am... mixed, on how this game handles returning characters from 999. The big thing right now is This Is Not My Akane. She's basically unrecognizable, even in her past state where she looks the same. I was thinking during that whole ending, "Okay, but why did it have to be AKANE? She's been through this so many times and probably has six layers of PTSD from the thing, so why would she ever agree to this?" And it feels like the answer is a kind of puzzle-box solution that I find really strange all things considered. Like, yes, 999's ending was a mindfuck, but it also genuinely pulled at the heartstrings because like. Yeah, you were saving Akane, and this is someone that we'd built a connection to both as a character and as a player.

-I guess the thing there is that like, that kind of heartstrings ending is a single route of 999, but it's all over VLR. The ending feels like an answer to the mystery, but not to the themes, or the question of "why does this game exist?"

-It feels like Uchikoshi wanted to follow up on the cult success of 999 by making something Bigger, an even more complex mystery with even more paths and even more moving parts. And he got so invested in making this puzzle box cohere that the game ends up sidelining emotional resonance even when it's trying not to.

-I've been talking to a friend of mine who played it a while ago and felt physically ill after the ending, and like. First of all, yeah, different people just have different tolerable levels of bullshit. But also, I feel like plural systems like myself innately have more of a resistance to it because our minds are already fucky enough. Legit, during the reveal of the swap I was thinking "Oh so he dissociated for 45 years."

-Sidenote, Zero Escape feels intensely gnostic, from what little I know of gnosticism. It feels like these games are trying to use science as a conduit/justification for a philosophy I'm not sure if I vibe with. But I can vibe with it for the purpose of storytelling.

-I think I like VLR more than 999? Like, VLR is definitely playing with bigger ideas and following up on 999 in ways I really appreciate. And in general th--

-Midway through typing the previous thing I realized, holy shit, I have a similar relationship to this game that I do to Final Fantasy XIII-2. They're both sequels that follow up on their previous games with blanket improvements to both story and gameplay, but both have endings that leave me confused as to what these games are actually doing besides filling in plot before the next game. And yes, both VLR and XIII-2 are doing amazing things in the beginning and the middle, but the answer to "what is this leading to" for both seems to be "play the next game, fucker."

-I think the thing I'm pissed about is the justification given for the AB game. Like, the mechanic inherently carries interesting themes about trust, self-interest, game theory, etc. The reveals of what everyone else voted are some of the most gripping moments I've experienced in video games. I was ready for this to be going somewhere with these ideas! And then the reveal is that the reason the game was constructed like this was to give you more moments of choice to time travel through. And like, okay, fine, this game's got its higher level stuff about choice and agency and all that, that all works! But for the Ambidex Game to be primarily about making the player make the exact right choices to lead to the perfect ending, it's... Ugh! I thought the point was to explore all these other possibilities, that's why all the different endings!

-I need more time to process this game, but right now my take is this: Virtue's Last Reward is an amazing game until you realize what it is. It's a game that can raise your emotions high and get you truly fucked up. But as you play more of it, it reveals its true focus is this almost mechanical construction of plot. This construction is beautiful in its own way, but it's not what I come to a game like this for. Despite being a game designer who talks a lot about game mechanics and systems, I care so much about story. I want to get attached to characters, I want to see a narrative unfold, I want to have my heartstrings pulled. And the game seems too sure of itself to remember to pull it off.

-Or maybe this is the wrong way of looking at it? Maybe I'm criticizing what it isn't, rather than appreciating what it is. This game isn't trying to be 999 and failing, it's trying to be Virtue's Last Reward and succeeding. And I'm still along for this ride.

I’m gendercrit but holy hell I’m still shocked at how bad those comments were. I love how so many of the negative ones are like “as a polyace as a trans gay guy as an asexual,” go on to insist that PIV can be gay, when they have absolutely zero stake or should have any opinion on homosexuality at all. I’m also sure the author is probably gay or lesbian and they jumped on them for this - chastising them for being a bad gay basically, a bigot a terrible person, because having an opinion that’s absolutely 100% correct and based in the reality of sex and calling out homophobia is a sure fire way to get yourself crucified by people who appropriate shit. These people are batshit insane and hate gay people. Author should do an updated essay where they’re even more upfront and angry tbh especially since this GO attitude of ‘they’re not human they can mix match sex and still be gay” has literally spread to other fandoms with human gay couples and so where’s this excuse now? They don’t respect gay characters and they def don’t understand or share any common goals with actual gay ppl

The worst thing about those people acting like they have any say on topics about homosexuality, is that you can’t tell them otherwise without being told you’re some sort of phobic!! When it comes to all their made up issues, they have no problem saying “only ace people get an opinion!” But when it comes to actual real issues regarding homosexuals, suddenly it’s open to everyone. I wonder if it has to do with the way they’ve hijacked the word gay to no longer mean homosexual, but to instead mean “anyone who wants to call themselves gay to feel special”. As in, they think they’re gay because they want multiple partners, so they get a say in anything regarding gay people.

It’s even worse with “trans gays”…because you know damn well they’re literally homophobic heterosexuals…but you can’t tell them that unless you want to be called transphobic. And you know they won’t listen to you when you say “Aiden, you’re a homophobic straight woman, you get no say on this topic” because they’re so self-absorbed and so caught up in their own ideology that they don’t even listen to anyone who begins to invalidate their fantasy.

Point of that little rant is to say, it is so damn frustrating to see a bunch of non-homosexuals acting like their opinion holds the same weight as homosexuals when it comes to discussing our sexuality…and knowing that their ideology enables them so much that you can’t say anything about it, they’ll just tune you out. It’s frustrating to know that I can give my opinion as a homosexual, only to be overruled by a straight woman calling herself an “aromantic trans nonbinary man” who thinks her fake identities give her more say than me.

And yes, the backlash to the essay absolutely has to do with the idea of a (presumed) homosexual stepping out of line. These people see gays as pawns and objects they own, and hate to see us having our own voice that opposes theirs. Because they think they’re entitled to our agreement and compliance.

They’re also accustomed to being in a community where everyone has the same opinions, everyone claims they’re gay, and everyone validates them. So I think it’s an absolute shock to them when somebody they assume would be in this same boat, has a mind of their own. It’s like, “what? You’re supposed to be Mindless Genderist #200, especially because you’re gay! How could you betray our community like this?”

If the author is still around here and reading this, please please please write another essay, I will eat it up. The first one did a really good job of being respectful and not heavy-handed on the gender critical aspect, which I think is the reason it resonated with me. If it was explicitly a “terf” essay, all my critical thinking would’ve been shut down because Terf Bad. But because it was just laying out points with no belief system attached, I was able to go into it just as a homosexual and find my agreement that way, not swayed by any pressures to believe a certain ideology. But it would be great to read another one that is more firm and angry, because lord knows it would be more than justified.

And I’ve noticed that too, that the “they’re not human, so they can’t be gay” excuse has spread to other fandoms. It’ll just take different forms depending on what’s available in the media’s universe. So for example, in a universe with magic, the fandom will use the magic system as an excuse for why the characters can’t possibly be gay (but they can be anything else). In a universe without magic, it’ll be something like “well, these characters are so deep and complex, so it’s not good to limit them to a label like gay (but they can be anything else)”.

It’s very clear to me that it’s not actually about trying to find interesting and complex ways of worldbuilding like these fandoms claim. Because if that was the case, why would homosexuality need to be ruled out? Wouldn’t it be interesting to discuss how this very real and important experience fits in with the universe in question? Instead, this is clearly about how fandom has always been homophobic, and they’ve finally found an acceptable excuse for it. Why else would the focus constantly be on explaining why characters can’t possibly be gay?

They will approach you first. Your person might be a Taurus or Leo in their big three of Venus for the few of you. First of all, even just the way you look will be beautiful to them. You have the earthy, homey vibes to you. God/Goddess/Divine type of energy and it's not just your person but people in a general notice about you. I see a few people talking about how Mercury's is more about how he actually isn't strong in order to subvert tropes but I think that goes against a lot of what has happened with characters in RWBY and how that adversity the suffer causes growth (with growth sometimes being represented through fights such as the Adam fight) and I think the bigger thing with Mercury is how his strength hasn't really helped him very specifically with his father because while he is free from Marcus physically on a mental/emotional/spiritual level he hasn't been able to properly heal from all that

I agree with you tbh. I am literally 0 interested in power levels and personally I think RWBY follows this very wise philosophy:

In short, rather than having fixed power levels, the characters are presented as individuals with a complex set of abilities, which makes them more effective in some contexts and less performing in others. Similarly, psychological factors or well thought plans can influence the outcome of a battle.

For example, RWBY vs Ace Ops is a fight clearly influenced by the Ace Ops repressing their feelings. Similarly, Ruby is a less skilled fighter than Neo, but she still manages to win against Ice-Cream Girl twice because of her quick thinking. Even in the famous Bumbleby vs Adam's fight it is implied Adam is a stronger fighter than both, but he still loses because of his flaws.

Honestly, a tons of other examples can be done, but the point is that RWBY does not care much about power levels. They are consistent, but ultimately unimportant because not really decisive. Sure, the main characters are becoming stronger, but if they need to get their asses handed to them, they do in usually believable ways. Similarly, if they need to do something insanely cool, cool things happen :'')

And I guess the same thing will work for Mercury too. Does he need to have his ass kicked, so he can grow? A defeat is coming. Does he need to succeed? He will succeed. Honestly, Mercury is like the other characters imo. He is shown to have skills that can be useful. Would they always work? Nope. However, if he needs to power up, he will. I mean, Weiss clearly underperforms against Vernal, but thanks to Jaune's help she is able to unlock a new summon, which is key for the whole battle. Morevoer, after that she is shown to have become much better at summoning (and this happens in like... a couple of days or weeks at most). Ren struggles a lot throughout his Atlas's training, but in a moment of clarity he unlocks a new power, which becomes key in searching for Oscar.

In short, obviously Mercury's arc will deal with the ideas of strength and weakness. It is also true it has a component of overcoming toxic masculinity. However, I doubt this will happen only through an aknowledgement of some kind of difference in skills (simply because it would be boring and useless for the plot). If that were really the point, Mercury would not really have to look that far beyond where he is :''') Salem is an immortal Witch, Cinder is an elemental powerhouse and Tyrian is on par with Qrow... Mercury kicks :P I think he can infer pretty clearly he is not exactly the strongest man around. Hence him cowering in fear whenever one of these three targets him.

The thematic truth is instead what you highlight. No matter how much Mercury (or other characters for that matter) pursues strength and power, it is not gonna solve his problems, which are rooted in trauma and identity issues.

Anyway, I am really not interested in this angle of analysis and I don't think it is very meaningful or resonant. That said, people are free to enjoy these kinds of metas and look for deconstructions or inversions whenever they like :)

PAC Reading: What Do You Need to Overcome in 2022

This reading will cover the challenges that you will have to overcome in the upcoming year. The reading is divided in three parts. The main focus is on the topic of this reading, but the way I did it is that I also asked what do you need to focus on in order to overcome these “challenges” and also the result of doing so. It is a general reading so take what resonates for you. 

So, there is the what you need to overcome as a main dish and “focus” and “result” are the side dishes of this reading which I feel like it will make it more helpful and comprehensible. Excuse my food analogy. 

To anyone who takes their time and does this reading I am forever grateful. I would also immensely appreciate any kind of feedback. This is my first PAC reading and I am a bit nervous but also excited.

What do you need to overcome- 2 of Swords; Ace of Swords; Ace of Wands

For my pile 1, the challenge that you need to overcome is indecisiveness relating to something that has been in your mind for some time. It seems as if you need to finally decide on something and then immediately after take action on the said decision. I think that the people who chose this pile want to take some decision in regard to a creative project or something they want to try and pursue. Let go of fear and explore whatever it’s dwelling on your mind. Only by trying it out, you will be able to know if it is right or not. In the process you will learn a lot about yourself too. For some others it is about taking some sort of life decision. Whatever it is, the main goal is for you to set the path so that you get  to live life the way you want to. Overall, in 2022 you are meant to overcome the “this or that” energy and start pursuing things. It will bring novelty and freshness to your life. A start of a new era that your soul has been craving for.

What you should focus on in order to do so- The Fool(RX)

I did not expect to get The Fool in reverse in this part tbh. When the Fool is in reverse it means the opposite of the upright energy. So to be able to overcome your challenge you need to be cautious when going into action. Act but do not be reckless. Think before acting, be a bit skeptical but still continue forward. I think you need to kind of consider all the nuances of whatever your situation is but do not be hesitant to start or do something. I think this is about you taking the road that you are most resistant or fearful of. Anyway you need this new beginning so proceed with caution. You will also be supported along the way, like you will see that opportunities will present themselves because of the energy in the first section. 

Result- Temperance (Rx); 3 of Cups (Rx)

Well the result is not the prettiest but it makes sense when you take in consideration what you need to overcome. You will be out of your comfort zone so you will not feel the most calm or comfortable but remember feelings of discomfort are only temporary. I think getting out of your comfort zone is something that you have struggled with for some time, and for a lot of you it is the reason why you have not been able to make that “step forward”. So when you finally do so you will feel like you have lost some sense of serenity but that is just bcs you got out of your comfort zone. Along the way you also may lose some people. The comfort and harmony will be disrupted. I think this sense of losing the serenity is bcs people around you will disagree. Or whatever you have started or changed will be meet  with some resistance from others. They might think this is not your best move and this will upset you or at least it will cause some distress. Anyway, move forward and once again remember that any feeling of discomfort is only temporary. The year 2022 is meant to set you onto what you are meant to have. 

Pile 2: 

What do you need to overcome 2 of Pentacles; The Chariot (Rx); The Moon (Rx)

You are juggling a few stuff which is creating an imbalance and it’s slowing you down, you need to break free. I am not sure if this is about choosing something and dropping something else but it could be for some of you. However, this is mostly about letting go of what no longer serves you or is slowing you down. You know what to do or what you need to do but you feel like it’s wrong to “get out” or “stop”. The “what if’s” are holding you back. Listen to your gut. 

What you should focus on in order to do so- 9 of Pentacles 

Focus on creating abundance for yourself. Be independent and collect your coins hahaha I mean literally focus on making money. If you are trying different “projects” at the same time, then the one that brings you more abundance is the one meant for you. The one that makes you feel the most fulfilled and offers you independence is the one that you should focus on. For 2022 have a practical approach to your endeavors and you will reap the fruits of your work. You might think that you should keep going and doing all these things is the most beneficial but it will be better if you dedicate your time and effort to the one that is really worth it. Don’t drop everything but you need to put on hold something here. 

Result- 10 of Pentacles; 6 of Pentacles

Overall, this pile has a lot of earth energy. The cards reveal an abundant path after overcoming your 2022 challenge. You got two cards that talk about  generosity and sharing. You will get help from others and you will also be able to share and help too. This is mostly about you being able to set some kind of financial security that you and the people around you have been needing. Anyway 2022 could be the year where you set the foundations for something stable and profitable. Last thing, be open about getting help from others or working as a team. Team work or group effort is going to bring good results.

Pile 3:

For my pile 3, before I start with the tarot cards, I feel compelled to say a message about this pile. It feels like you guys need to get “unstuck”. Now I know the wording is not the best but that’s the word that sums it all up. It could be a living situation or work/school related. For some it is about a romantic relationship. The light at the end of the tunnel is very faint, and some of you feel like it is nonexistent. This year you will have to persist. You may not reach that “end of the tunnel” that you are wanting to but have faith because it is there. If you have not seen any light till now, in 2022 you will and it will be reachable. I got this when I was generating your images, I wrote it down just in case. Please do tell me if it resonates. I would not have included it if this was not a general reading but since it is, I thought I should post it just in case to test it out.

Now onto the Tarot,

What do you need to overcome- King of Swords; 10 of Wands; Queen of Swords

For this pile, the main challenge that you need to overcome is releasing yourself from the burdens that others have put on you. The order in which the cards appeared made me think that the message I got about getting unstuck was appropriate to your situation. Now these burdens can be in the form of mental pressure from others since we have the air energy. This pressure is materialized into real burdens for you. For those very few of you that are are in a romantic relationship, this is about carrying the whole relationship by yourself mainly because of other people’s influence or opinions.  At the end, no matter what kind of situation this is about, recognize the limits and pressure you are putting on yourself because of others. 

What you should focus on in order to do so- 5 of Wands

To release your burden what you need to do is fight, do not be afraid of conflict. The situation varies because this is a general reading. Assert yourself, start it slowly, do not be afraid. Test the waters little by little. If someone says something that is offensive to you or crosses your boundaries, tell them. You can still be polite even when you are telling showing their place to someone. So, in order to release these burdens you need to create some sort of chaos, or at least this is how it will feel for you. The cards that you got here and in the first section also shows how stubborn the people you are dealing with are. They won’t budge if you just be patient or wait.

Result- Queen of Pentacles; Ace of Cups

All the upheaval will be worth it. You will be in a beautiful state. It will be the embark of a new era for you, it will bring stability. You will be confident and secure in yourself and something new in the emotional realm will happen for you. Love might enter your life, for some others it is a new friendship, tbh it depends. I believe that this new novelty will be related to what you have been struggling till now. So if you have a toxic friend group then you will be able to meet new friends. This sort of thing. Anyway you have to be open to these new “offerings” and I am not saying you should jump directly into it but have an open mind. I think what you will enjoy most after all the battles is the Queen of Pentacles energy, it will soothe your soul in a way.

Pile 4:

What do you need to overcome- 2 of Cups; 5 of Swords; Ace of Pentacles(Rx)

The challenge here is a bit tricky because different from the “challenges” of the other piles, I don’t think it is that obvious to you. A union you are in is doing you more harm than good. When I say union I mean some sort of partnership and that is not exclusively romantic. However because this is a reading about the whole year ahead I do believe that this “partnership” holds a significant importance in your life or has been going on for some time. The whole shenanigan has you losing money or it causes for your plans to keep falling apart. There is sabotage here. In 2022 you need to move away from this situation or at least recognize the trickery. If you have taken a neutral role, then it is time to take some action. It will feel liberating if you are able to get rid of it. 

What you should focus on in order to do so-  8 of Swords

When the 8 of swords came out it gave me a clearer picture of the whole ordeal. I thought that the trickster here could also be you (the reader) but when with this card here well I realized you are simply suffering. The way for you to get out of this situationship is to analyze. Reflect on what kind of traps others are setting for you, or what has you trapped. The only way to liberate yourself is to recognize what is being weaponized against you. It will be hard but it will be doable. It depends on what kind of situation this is but if you can just walk out of it then do it. If not then remember that some fears are rational and some are not, keep a logical approach. To recognize the sabotage just look at who/what is backing you into a corner and instilling fear or anxiety in you.

Result- 2 of Swords; The Fool

Okay, at first it glance the 2 of Swords is not the best but hear me out, this is just a normal “reaction” after overcoming what you needed to. I think the 2 of Swords is you being protective of yourself, kind of in a stagnant mode. This will be temporary since you got the Fool too. You will be extra cautious after all of this ends but at the end you will be able to embrace The Fool’s energy.  You do desire for new beginnings and to turn a new page in your life and you will be able to do so. It will take some time but you will do it and it will truly be refreshing and just what you need. You will have your moments of insecurity but they will pass and you will be able to get out of that mindset. I think just exploring would be healing for you.

Last thing about pile 4, I don’t feel like pile 4 will get chosen by a lot but for those who do I want to say that I had a feeling like the last year or so, felt like trying to walk or run under the sea in a dream (yk that feeling). It’s a sluggish feeling and a disorienting one. Please take care of yourself. Put yourself first and do not give up.

Can I just say I am so happy you wrote that coming out fic and showed Phineas coming out as aro-ace? I think a small number of PnF fans actually do harbor that headcanon but it is very appreciated when I see it in fic. Especially when even less of those people seeing Phineas as ace and/or aro are writers too. I've seen Ace Phineas on at least one other fic besides yours and even then he's established as demi (which is also very appreciated) in that one (that same fic has Ace Stacy too!).

Ace-Aro Phineas should definitely be something explored more in PnF fandom - or in fact any fic where Phineas doesn't necessarily end up with someone if the main point of the fic a non-Phineas focused ship (I've seen multiple Ferbella and Bujeet fics with Phineas/Candace, Phineas/Adyson, Phineas/OC.) There's so much, let him be aspec!

I'm genuinely so happy people resonated with that part of the fic specifically - I'm not aro/ace myself, so it was the part I was most nervous to write bc it was so introspective (compared to Doof's scene, which was more observational about him being trans, and obviously it's well established that he's known for a long time). To hear that a lot of people liked it makes me feel so good.

In canon, Phineas is SO oblivious to any kind of romantic attraction directed towards him - he is well aware that it exists, and that it's real, but he never acknowledges it when it's directed at him and there is not ONE moment in the show (save for AYA, which ew, and the Star Wars special, which isn't canon) where he directs it at anyone else. And it's not even age - all of his friends and both his siblings at one point or another in the show have crushes or relationships.

I know Phinabella was always end goal, but with how disinterested they made Phineas in the concept of romance at all, it always just sat wrong with me. (Not to say ppl can't like it ofc, y'all do you, but it just never added up)

And yo honestly? I hate how many non-Phineas focused relationship fics have him in an incestuous relationship. I can't read half the Ferbella fics that exist bc they put him in a relationship with his sister 🤢🤢 Like there's already a severe lack of Ferbella fics in the fandom, and then they do THAT?? Before I really headcanoned Phineas as ace/aro, I usually headcanoned him as ace/gay, and would pair him with Django p frequently (still think they'd be fun in a queer platonic relationship tbh)

Anyway, that's all a long winded way to say I'm really happy you liked the fic, and I also wish more people would consider ace/aro Phineas. You don't need to be in a relationship to be an interesting character 🤷🏼‍♀️ that's honestly one of the biggest reasons I write so many family oriented/friendship oriented fics - there's a lack of good found-family/family tropes in every fandom that exists (the PnF fandom is esp bad with this, which is INSANE, bc their platonic/familial relationships are the core of the show - literally both movies were about family). And sometimes that's all you want to read.
