okay i am going to answer this as best i can without getting carried away!!

cupid and psyche has been one of my favourite tales for yearsssss, i love it with my whole self. and the statue and the artwork? it makes my brain go insane. i don't consume media in a "normal" way, if my brain likes it, she will Snatch it. and that is exactly how i feel about cupid and psyche.

in relation to villaneve, it started with this scene

which i am sure makes sense bc when this scene was released, it was the first thing people thought of! and how could you not? eve gently caressing vil's hair while she's on the floor passed out? the hurt/comfort and angst girlies (me) were eating this shit up. again, how could we Not.

(before i continue, i recognise peoples opinions on this scene have changed since s4 ended and many people come to the conclusion that this scene wasn't That exciting -- i respectfully disagree, but whatever floats your boat)

so anyway. eve and villanelle showed traits of cupid and psyche before this scene, but this scene is known as the direct parallel. i do have a fic series where i talk on these similarities throughout the entire series, which you can read here - it is my favourite series and each fic is gifted to a killing eve fic author <3

it is the push and pull, the 'i thought i lost you', the 'you're mine', the 'this is what you wanted', the room for regret and sorrow but choosing power and violence instead, the walking away and still finding each other

eve was assigned to catch villanelle and she did but somewhere in the story she got lost and found herself. that is a love story

i have such a love for characters who descend into madness or villainy out of deep, deep empathy. characters who fundamentally cannot cope with the cruel realities they find themselves in and blow up about it in spectacular fashion. fallen angel type characters with tears of outrage in their eyes. characters who break before they bend, and break so badly they splatter blood all over their noble ideals. every variation on it gets me so good
