people taking characters and removing any sort of nuance from them favorite example: yang xiao long from rwby canon: her introduction has her beat up an entire gangster bar. if Neo was there (and we know that her and Roman teamed up with the Xiong's), Neo would most likely have killed her weird fans: no actually she's not reckless at all, she's so misunderstood and sensitive actually. for example look at when Ren recklessly fought the Nucklavee and lost it (yeah dude that thing killed his parents and his entire village, you'd also lose your marbles) that means that Yang is not reckless at all

both Whiterose and Bumbleby are ships I used to like, but fanon completely ruined them for me because of people reducing them down to non-problematic blorbos (and everyone who's not a perfect sweetheart to them is actually a monster and should be impaled on a spike, like Tai for making a joke in poor taste)

Ok so like i dont have too much figured out but. It plays out relatively the same up until the battle on the airship, Neo still flies off but this time, instead of just flying through the sky Roman has to see her get eaten by a grimm </3 obviously hes distraught and furious at Ruby so he starts attacking her but before he can kill her (or the nevermore can get to him) the ship starts exploding earlier. So Roman and Ruby both get caught in the explosion, Ruby narrowly avoiding getting hit as bad as Roman did by using her semblance

Im considerinnnggg Roman taking some collateral damage from the ship exploding but im not sure if I want to make it like, some scars, or hes missing a limb or 2 cuz explosions r nasty (leaning towards both, hurting my favourite characters is always fun) But yeah after he wakes up from the explosion hes like. Severely injured but he still takes time to look for any sign of Neo, only finding her parasol. He realizes shes absolutely dead and just snaps like hes not ok. Blah blah gets medical attention probably a replacement limb from the underground, falls off the face of Remnant and from public eye entirely, people just assume both he and Neo died in the fall (Ruby doesnt know he lived).

Then he tracks down Cinder in a similar manner to what Neo did, by going to Lil Miss and shes just like "Holy shit Roman what happened to you" He asks for help tracking Cinder, Lil Miss knows hes serious because he came back to her of all people. Not sure how I want the Cinder and Roman confrontation to be, but hes a lot less willing to work with her and only does it because he thinks Salem may have a way to bring Neo back (Hes smart enough to figure out shes immortal lol).

Roman also uses Cinder to his advantage and goes after Ruby too, since he literally watched her be the cause of Neos death. Hes really sad and angry and filled with blood lust u know how it is. Idk what his role in the Atlas arc would b yet still figuring that out.

And then in the Ever After since he doesnt have a semblance it plays out very differently. Hes less fueled by rage than Neo was, and moreso heartbreak and regret that he wasnt able to keep Neo safe, just as he had always worried when he brought her into his life. Whiiiich makes him easier to break. The cat notices this, and the moment they do they give up on breaking Ruby (no suicide tea party, yet there is still tea idk how i want to implement that yet. Maybe Neo as the March Hare kinda thing where she was conjured by the ever after somehow and theyre just chilling drinking tea like they used to, similar to the Hatter and Hare in the original)

When the cat breaks Roman its like ugly and he just collapses and stuff because hes really lost everything and hes completely alone again. Thats what the quote I wrote in the art I posted is from, Roman felt as if he wasnt enough to save Neo, the cat bribes him with a promise of making him enough. The cat uses his body's fighting ability as a small power up (nothing near neos, but still pretty ok) Ruby gets forced into ascension instead, since shes still pretty broken.

And this is all I have so far lol need to figure out the finer details but yknow

Things Neo can conceal/disguise with illusions: Weapons, Armor, Clothes, entire planes (admittedly hard) Things she cant: The relic. Old Lady starts to go Ice-supersayian. Cinder generics into the scene as always.  Renora only just got together and they’re already having their first couple-fight. Oscar abandons crew, because thats going to be smart. Supersayian Oldlady has dementia, Oscar and James about to duke it out for the spear? “I wouldn’t trust me either”. And Jimmy shot the kid. I’ll be honest the whole “turn to the dark side” arc didnt really work for me. Not because i dont believe his dark side, but because i was never really sold on his “light” in the first place. Cant fall from grace when you are introduced without it i fear. (i mean i guess there were a few glimpses. But its more like he’s introduced as a fallen champion then that we get to see the champion fall if that makes sense) Cinders arm just got shattered, thats good? Is it going to stick? No, because it regenerates. I’ll be honest, Cinder still has too much going on in the design, Flaming eyes, Eyepatch, Amputated Monsterprosthesis, little brooch-like thing on her chest, earrings. Like one or two of these things are fine in a design but put it all together and her entire “deal’ gets cluttered. Why are penny’s maiden-flameeyes green?  Speaking of Green, Ozpins glowy forcefield/whatever his semblance is is back. Which begs the question: Do all of Ozpins Souls share 1 semblance or is this an a MHA One For All sort of deal? Qrow and Robin are off to prison again while Ozpin talks about fear and the montage implies cinder is afraid of failure. Which is might be the first time we have been given anything resembling a motive for the character. (we are 7 seasons in and our OG Main Villain is only now getting motivations beyond “im evil”) Salem got a backstory before Cinder did is what im saying. Winter’s still on the side of the Fasc, but at least she still cares for Weiss. Penny joins team goodguy (which is good, cause i never bought her on James’ side to begin with) Penny has 2 hands so she can cuddle Ruby and Weiss simultaniously. No Ozpin, i dont understand why Cinder does the things she does, it would be absolutely lovely if she got to have a personality beyond “generic looming threat” please. Wait Watts is still alive? I was under the impression James had executed that motherfucker when he held him by his throat over the arena pit that had been spouting lavaflames earlier that fightscene, and that them dramatically cutting away from his threat to “do whatever it takes to eliminate salem” was meant to imply an extralegal and brutal execution. while Watts’s “I hope you do” was a dignified set of last words before aforementioned extralegal execution. Congrats Watts, you live because the writers didnt have the balls. Pinochio just became the most important person in the arc, and a giant whale shows up. What a suprise. Salem get down from there, you’ll catch a cold. ------------ Final thoughts on S7: It’s basic foundational premise was not sold to me, but it managed to somewhat salvage itself half-way through. I rank it a B-tier season and it’s lucky to have that. The newly introduced villains (ACEOPS) werent really sold to me that well, and Clovers fall-from-grace/death didnt touch me emotionally. (though it sold me on Qrow being sold on it). Nonetheless i did like his character the most of the ops and their dynamic with Qrow was sort of weird, going from “possible loveinterest” to “Dickish Rival” at strange times. I hear that a lot of the FNDM shipped them? I never saw it but i could see where others might. (Also in hindsight: What was the point of using the Tournament in V3 to introduce 3 atlas characters with FNKI and Ciel when 2 are nothing but cameos I know from V9 that the absence of the latter is relegated to a joke).

So I've been noticing a lot of people interested in JaunexNeo and I was wondering what is the appeal, if the people following this post might be able to explain to me?

Thats ok I was JUST screaming about it (all day really) and this may give me a good opportunity to let all my fangirling out about these two, so thank you very much about the ask!

TBH It all starts by the fact they both lost a REALLY precious person during the fall of beacon, and since then carry a red memento with them to remind themselves of the person they lost. (For Neo it's Torchwick's hat, while Jaune carries Pyrrha's red scarf (and he melted the gold of her weapons into his weapons but shh)

They both have been pursuing vengueance for the ones they lost since beacon, both their first instinct was to blame Cinder dor it too! And while Jaune had the support of his friends and loved ones and started to move away from that thirst for vengueance since vol 5, realizing his true purpose is more in the lines of supporting his friends and save the world through the process, Neo didn't have that luck since she's alone. She got lied to and got used by Cinder.

Now: BEWARE OF A BIT OF SPOILERS FOR THE END OF V8 ON THE FOLLOWING BIT:

There's a lot of hoping that since both fell into the ✨ Magic Island✨ alongside team RWBY, and that since they're the only ""main characters"" who fell there outside of team RWBY, they may find eachother and have some kind of heart to heart about the people they lost, that she will realize shes been helping the same people who caused Torchwick's death and begrudgingly join team RWBY and finally get that support she's been craving all this time.

(Of course this will most probably happen AFTER Neo kicks Jaune's ass but shh we all want to get a lil kicked by her so no real harm)

Of course, moving away from wishful thinking about how v9 will go, their arcs DO have a lot of things in common, specially with the losing a loved one and coping with the grief and loneliness their loss caused, but what's funny is that their latest character designs also have a lot of things in common!

Now i know what youre thinking: "WHAT!? noooo!!" But it's true. I tell you, who goes into a screaming-into-my-pillow-because-what-the-actual-fuck spree every time i draw them together.

To begin with, both their character designs share a LOT of colors: lots of white, black and that one splash of red on both. LOTS of brown on both. Jaune just uses the white on TOP of the black/brown while Neo wears brown on TOP of the white (you know, as if signaling she still has good inside of her) the only colors they dont share are Jaune's orange that peeks from inside his shirt vs Neo's pink details.

(they both have the SAME shade of brown actually, like ouch!) And the biggest difference between them is that Jaune's armor is lined by Golden details, while Neo's jacket is lined with silver details. (You know. Soon and moon bs. Which RWBY is known to shove into all their main couples smh)

And some smaller shape-design details like, they both have something big attached to their upper arm (similarly shaped as well), both have long gloves, both wear thight pants and boots, both have their shirt/armor shape in an inverted triangle right above the belly button.........

Their weapons are even alike: both have a shield and a sword, in the loose sense of things.... Both the swords going sheated inside the shield.... weapons which they both lost right before the fall in v8....

How would you compare Knightfall to other RWBY ships in terms of quality of storytelling? Because I really don't think things like White Knight or Lancaster narratively hit as hard as Knightfall would as a ship. To me, those other ships just "function" but Knightfall sets the soul on fire. Theres so much external & inner conflict to overcome plus the absolutely CATHARTIC healing that comes afterward. I dont understand how the rest of the FNDM doesn't see this. How can anything even come close?

To other readers: sorry if this turns up in the ship tags, Tumblr sometimes (not always) takes the body of the text as a tag. It's very odd, but move on if you don't like Jaune/Cinder. (This is why I generally use slash pairing names as opposed to given fandom shipnames).

To address your question anon: oh I am totally in the camp it's the best ship in the show, it's not just my pet ship but I think the most dramatic and compelling.

I think there are two separate questions here, which is the quality of storytelling compared to the fanon interpretation of ships and narrative potential of them.

In terms of the actual canon, I would say that the romances, early on, generously, were 'light'. They were fine, and I think it was clear that in V1-3 Blake/Yang was set-up - I'm not contending otherwise on that front - but it also wasn't sufficient to ensnare me with interest. (Adam's line, 'Starting with her,' was particularly telling on the canon front). I really came around to BB by the time of V6 though, everything with them leading up to the Adam fight was the sort of romantic drama I really desired.

Ofc, ask the Qrow/Ironwood fandom about the one argument and one scene where Qrow saves Ironwood, they would tell you that's enough to get a ship started. There's been some contention that Jaune and Cinder don't have enough interactions to be a good enough or interesting ship - um, to be quite frank, and introduce that second question: there are tons of ships with barely any interaction and tons of fandom presence, I'm not sure why I have to defend myself with them when they have probably one of the most interesting interactions in the whole show, even the once, not even counting V8 when I didn't expect them to see each other again.

To use an example, Jaune/Neo have barely... one? interaction and one line of dialogue, and somehow that's being proposed to me as a serious canon possibility. It's not.

Jaune and Ruby have their cute moments as friends (and I truly like their friendship, it's very nice) and Jaune and Weiss have... I'm not exactly sure, I guess he saves her? I honestly can barely think of anything off the top of my head, no offense, but there's not much to either of these ships in terms of dramatic tension. Blake and Yang, by comparison, already had their separation, vulnerability, confrontation... it's all there for them. Ruby/Oscar have the interaction in V5 which manages to keep them interesting (where he's questioning her how she can be so dedicated), but they still don't quite hit like Jaune and Cinder.

Mostly because Jaune and Cinder are tied in a very, very personal way, whereas Ruby and Oscar really aren't. Ruby and Oscar are sort of kismet - or coincidence - and it's funny that Cinder's sort of responsible for that after killing Ozpin. Jaune and Cinder are kismet in their own way, but you know he's totally mad about her because of something she did, not because he's been swept up on an adventure with her.

To me that's the fundamentals of romance and part of what makes it interesting. I agree about the catharsis and the healing - I think that's all there - and it realises all of the themes embedded in the show. The reason it makes sense to me and seems like a serious canon possibility is because wrapped up inside it is everything the show seems to be about. Life after death. Healing after pain. Seeing and not just looking. Really realising Salem/Ozma in a positive way (which... Blake/Yang and Ren/Nora also do). You don't get that with other Jaune ships the same way. Jaune and Cinder are special, because they're the most literal reverse Salem/Ozma. They're proof you could work back from that and fix it.

Everything that Knightfall would conceivably involve - Cindemption and all of that - makes the most sense in the story. It's the most interesting path! The show has already rejected him killing her!!!! They're the knight and the maiden/dragon!!! Idk!!!! It's the best ship ever of all time!!! Need I say it!!! I have no idea how another Jaune ship even shows a candle to his emotion in her presence:

It's not about the thin divide between hate and love, to me this is about the absolute concern they have for each other - and the absolute movement and change. I'm not interested in, 'hating you so much I love you,' or hatefucking or whathaveyou, what fascinates me about them is that this is the first time anybody's cared enough to ask her why she is the way she is... This one interaction is solid enough and involved enough for me to ship it, so quelle surprise when they do interact again in V8. I mean, I don't know about you, but it certainly seems good portents to me if he's in the same narrative position as her killing Penny. Ah, well, I could go on about it all day, and this isn't a post about potential canonicity.

But in terms of absolute narrative potential, it's right up there, and at a perfect time in the show too, since I think they demonstrated sensitivity and passion with the V6 BB romantic drama. I think it makes sense to make Knightfall the dramatic romantic crescendo of the show, too. I can't see what Jaune/Ruby or Jaune/Weiss even offers. Inevitability? What? He waited long enough for one of them to notice him? What does it achieve? It doesn't offer the story anything, those romances could have happened at anytime but they didn't.

Meanwhile Knightfall is a real realisation of the story - the drama - the romance - the intrigue - everything, it can only happen ('go canon') according to Cinder's redemption and the Fall Maiden joining her sisters last. It has to be big. It has to be built up to slowly. They have to grow apart as they've done over the story, and circle around and meet again, that's why it's such a slow-burn. That's why they fit together so well though - whenever I rewatch the show I'm always thinking, imagine when these two are on the same side, because by themselves I absolutely adore them. That's part of the joy of the ship for me - it's not just the inciting moment but who they are as characters independently.

I don't mean to fangirl, okay, fine, I'm letting myself fangirl: they are honestly so much like soulmates and I WANT the romance to happen SO DESPERATELY just because of the types of characters they are. Finally, all of Cinder's clever plans could be tempered with Jaune's intuition, come ON. IT WOULD BE EPIC.

That's why it's better than any other Jaune or Cinder ship and they're the best together because it could be amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing, it's like they're meant to be together onscreen, as soon as they're with each other everything interesting happens. So yes, if anything I'm going to contend Knightfall - if it happens - is 'the' big ship as the series goes on, because as soon as Cinder's on their side Salem is next. It has to be big, it has to be built up, and it makes sense for it to be the next dramatic shift. That's also why I think Ruby/Oscar mirrors their pace, and I think the two ships are connected, like how Blake/Yang developed at the same time as Ren/Nora.

I couldn't possibly tell you what Jaune/Ruby or Jaune/Weiss would narratively achieve beyond complacency and losing the plot, and suffice it to say, I think so far at least one thing R/WBY has been committed towards is their own sense of thematic direction. Whether it succeeds in execution is another question, but it seems pretty steady to me. Whether or not Knightfall goes down perfectly as I imagine it, it seems pretty fucking likely based on the show's thesis alone.

First the last point, which is that I think it's a case where there's either the acquired allergy to enemies-to-lovers (write an essay on THAT) or there's just like, people who don't like romance or capital R Romance for the same reasons I or we do, or don't know the language of romance, or the language of R/WBY's romance. I get that in certain other anime Jaune/Ruby would seem a given, but those are different narrative rules which I don't think apply to R/WBY and don't apply to a lot of Western romance storytelling. Different tradition, different expectations, and different usage of romance for conveying themes. It's demonstrable in R/WBY that the romance is doing things on several different levels, not just, 'Guy get girl,' either guy or girl who patiently awaited their boon.

Honestly I've written a few times before about their respective characters and issues in fandom, and I think it's probably because Cinder's a useless femme fatale who isn't dead yet? Unbelievably? and Jaune's a fuck-knuckle dropkick, so why bother with either of them. That plus classic enemies-to-lovers is usually gender-flipped (male villain, female heroine) or they're both guys, so the paradigm is not clicking for a lot of people, either femgaze fandom who eats bad boys for breakfast or the gender-diverse spectrum of Tumblr who likes slash ships, and then ofc I don't know what's going on with Reddit but they sure as shit hate Cinder over there and I'm not sure if there's much of a male gaze fantasy to be had with Cinder, other than her being a Mistress, though keep that shit away from me please and thank you. It's like all of the possible fandom issues in one, but Cinder's real Byronic heroine thing she's got going on and Jaune's sexy healer-Paladin-whatever annoying DND bullshit I have to put up with are honestly so fucking compatible archetypically in terms of how they've been flanderised and otherwise. Every bad wizard needs a pretty healer.

And to be quite frank Jaune's character reads perfectly in relation to Cinder. He's Ruby's friend and a co-leader, sure. He saved Weiss when he couldn't save Pyrrha, and didn't foolishly kill himself, but learnt to help instead. Yes, yes, yes, he's invaluable, but what is he meant for? Ruby's going to save the world with her silver eyes, because she can see through the dark, all of that stuff, but what is HE meant for? I get that he's the shounen protagonist flipped, and he's one of the major male protagonists, but what is he even doing? Ruby has silver eyes which could purify Cinder... but how do you get Cinder even remotely close to allowing her to do that?

Wouldn't it be so funny if the woman who basically instigated the emergence of his Semblance had that lesson turned back right on her? He'll help her too, and he'll heal her, literally and metaphorically. Come oooooon. IT'S SO OBVIOUS. And anyway, blah blah, the true love of your life really did come back from the (metaphorical) dead, and yes you were supposed to love a Fall Maiden and a princess and a maiden, she's all of them in one, NOW KISS AND DO COMPETENT STUFF TOGETHER.

Mermay has me thinking, Cinder as a pirate and Neo as a siren(sirens can't talk only sing) with Roman(merman, merfolk can talk), Mercury & Emerald wondering why Cinder 'Best Mer Hunter' Fall is not killing this deadly siren in front of her.

Cinder stood face to face with the siren, sword pointed at the mergirl’s throat. “You dare make any sound that can be taken as singing, and I will not hesitate.” 

The siren stared at Cinder, an amused smirk starting to form with her lips. This woman was not like anyone else who had come to these shores. Most of the others fell for the songs just as quickly as they started, but this one… this woman seemed almost unfazed by the song, intriguing the siren. She pulled back a bit, slipping down the rocks she was sitting on and putting herself back into the water, her brown and pink hair covering her chest. 

Cinder watched the siren, making note of each movement. She wasnt quite ready to let her guard down yet, keeping her weapon pointed at the siren in case any sudden moves were made. But something felt different about this situation to her. For a moment, she felt herself start to drop her arm, lowering her sword to her side. “You… you dont want to hurt me, do you?” 

Ther siren shook her head and splashed her tail in the water before disappearing below the surface. She swam around to the other side of the rock pile, surfacing and grabbing hold of Cinder’s shoulders before pushing her into the water. 

Cinder fell in with a splash, starting to fume a bit. “Trying to drown me?” 

The siren shook her head once again, swimming over to Cinder and then around her, splashing her with her tail before disappearing into the water once again. This time when she surfaced, she carried a small necklace made of fishing line, a couple shells, and a glowing starfish. 

Cinder hesitated for a moment as the sirent presented the necklace to her, starting to wonder what exactly the siren’s plan was. “You’re… giving me a necklace?” 

The siren nodded, gently setting the necklace down on the rocks, waiting for Cinder to take it. 

Cinder slowly picked it up and looked the necklace over, still not trusting it. “And… what exactly is this for?” 

The siren made a few gestures, feigning a song and covering her ears after. 

Cinder slowly put the necklace around her neck. “This… is supposed to protect me from the sea songs?” 

The siren nodded and waited until Cinder had put the necklace on before starting to sing, her voice echoing around the island as it was carried by the breeze from the sea. The song she sang didnt seem to have any words to it, just a series of sounds that brought out the desires of those who listened to it. 

Cinder hesitated for a moment as she listened to the song for what it was, really hearing the siren’s voice for the first time. She slowly moved the necklace in her hand, smiling a bit. “That… really works.” 

The siren finished her song and smiled at Cinder before disappearing below the waves once more. 

“So, why didnt you take this one out? Dont tell me the great Cinder Fall has gone soft.” 

Cinder sighed and turned around to face her first mate, Mercury, and her lookout, Emerald, as the two of them walked over to her. “This one was different.” 

“Different how?” asked Emerald. “You’re the one who says that merfolk and sirens are all the same: pests of the sea that need to be culled.” 

“And like I said, this one is different. I… cant exactly explain it, but she could’ve had me dead to rights before. But she didnt. So, I spared her.” 

Mercury rolled his eyes and started heading back to the ship. “I’m not entirely sure we can really call you “Mer Hunter” anymore, Cin. In the past you’ve never let a siren go even if they spared you. Why’s this time different?” 

Cinder shrugged, looking out to sea one last time before heading to her ship. “I’m not sure. Like I said, something about this one is different.”

The siren swam into the depths of the ocean, making her way home and only stopping as a familiar voice started to trail from behind her. 

“Neo! There you are!” 

Neo stopped swimming, using her pink and white tail to keep herself stationary in the water as she looked out to her friend. 

Roman quickly swam to her, stopping just in front of her. “You cant keep running off like that. I’ve told you the surface is starting to get more dangerous.” 

Neo sighed and made a few gestures, trying to tell Roman about the adventures she was having and a plan to make sure everything was safe. 

Roman hesitated for a moment as he “listened” to Neo. “You… gave a mer hunter the necklace? What were you thinking?! If she finds out what you’re doing, she’ll have you killed!” 

Neo shrugged and started swimming off again, not worried about the outcome. Its not like the mer hunter would realize what was going on before it was too late. And then she’d join them, becoming one of the very things she’d hunt. 

Roman followed behind Neo, sighing a bit as he swam. “I really hope you know what you’re doing…”

And here we see Aminety Colloseum, the place that Atlas SHOULD have weaponized the moment it rolled its way back here. Seriously look at it; floating free away from everything else...you could mount missile launchers and laser batteries and CIWS batteries on it, launch fighters from it, let dropships deploy through its base...a floating aircraft carrier of unprecidented size.

Or maybe turn it into a weapon...use its drive system to focus Dust energy into some kind of gravitational force...thats just me though.

Missed oppertunites...ah well.

You CAN see its been adjusted though, it looks less like the sports arena from its last apperance and more like a floating coms hub, with those dishes on the outside and the huge spire.

Intersetingly if you look in the upper right corner the moon is there but almost completely covered by the storm Salem summoned. Interesting.

Wait why is PEITRO out there? With like...no supports? Seems kinda dangerous to send the weak old dude out there...

Atmospheric orbit. Ahhh that must be the low-level orbit path that they need to ensure it doesnt loose power. The part where you coast along with almost no drag.  Like what the X-15 hit in our world, and punched through at least once.

Multiple bombs...wait. Thats the mine that RWBY fought in with the Aces, the one that almost blew the fuck up. They’re... Oh. I get it now. They’re gonna use the blast to fling Amneity into upper orbit and stabalize it. Clever. Not exactly SAFE, but clever. Just hope the mine doesnt go anywhere important. Those tunnels are going to turn into firestorms.

The eagerness in Cinders remaining eye interest me. Also, even when using maiden powers, her dead eye emits nothing. So that whole parts just gone. 

Secondary note, I think they’re standing on the...Shade emblem? Shade is the swords I think. Vale is the axes, Atlas is the staff, Havens the lamp. Doubt it means anything.

Ahhh, okay I was gonna say, that launch was...kinda lackluster. But the blast is being used as a BOOST on top of the four existing external thrusters. Like the yellow emergency turbines on the outside of the Pillar of Autumn in the end cutscene of Halo Reach

Dust explodes in its own individual colors. The blast under them looks like a Pride festival.

Also Penny just going WHAP like that amuses me, whereas Cinder just crouches. Guess she knew what was coming.

I dont see how the blast is helping through...maybe its the pressure wave and we cant see it right.

Now THAT is a command and control table!

Based on the image I can see, the map is showing “Atlas Mantle” in the middle in green, Aminety in red to the north, and the whale as its own red marker just off to the west a bit of Atlas/Mantle. So now we know where everything is stationed.

And because Cinders an unoriginal bitch, fire swords. Im not impressed ot say the least.  On a side note that DOES mean that radiobandit was right about her powers, so theres that. I’d wager this is a combination of her semblance and the maiden abilities.

For those who follow me, Cinder’s blades here are similar in look to what Ash Vulcan can summon, minus the fire. His are more of a cooled obsidian look.  They are, however, as sharp as these are, but much less sturdy. Ex; the one that pins itself to the wall by Penny’s head would have shattered on impact, which Ash uses as a secondary ability. Because no one likes a hundred glass shards in their eyes...

OH HELL YES. Maria with the mech. Now, Cinder...TASTE METAL FIST.

Emeralds semblance works on Maria. Interseting, so it must bypass eyes. Effect the brain specifically. Note to self for Chrys on that...

WHY did Neo take Ruby’s form when shes fighting Maria? On that Maria seems very happy to brawl on the ground now. Old habits die hard, I guess.

Additional math note; “broadcasting range” is, by this numerical, 543.523 of...whatever Remnant uses as units. On Earth, the edge of outerspace is almost exactly 100 km, or 62 miles, straight up. So going by that measurement... (Doing the math here hang on)...1 km is equal to 5.43 of Remnants distance units. Lets just say 5.5. Assuming Remnants edge is the same (but everything we’ve seen so far hints that it is, or at least very close)

Alternatively, since we heard klicks used in V4, but miles used in After The Fall, we can assume this is one of those, meaning that either broadcast altitude on Remnant is ABSURDLY HIGH, because 500km is literally 5 times the edge of space on earth, and 540 miles is ALMOST 9 TIMES AS HIGH. Either way Im pretty sure this is the first measurement of Remnants units we’ve seen.

Alternatively alternatively, judging by the arrows we see, these might be required velocity to maintain orbit, which MAY make a bit more sense but it doesnt really fit. Low orbital velocity on earth for example is 17,000 KPH. Even with the math above, theres still a TITANIC difference.

And now we see the numvers going down again because CINDER BURNED A HOLE IN THROUGH ONE OF THE STABALIZERS. Bitch.

Again on th e weaponizing the colleseum; look at all this empty space. They didnt even remove it from when it was a consorse for the festival. You could put SO MANY weapon emplacements...the landing pads are still there!

I was just seeing it as like, about the size of a normal sperm whale, maybe as big as the Leviathan from the series of the same name, but even that was barely 150 feet long. This things HUGE.

Also the Moon seems smaller from this angle oddly enough.

Also as a small note the way the coms between her and Peitro cut off like that is accurate to reentry; during the hottest part of a splashdown, a space craft creates such a huge trail of energy behind it, rattling and burning its way down, it creates a blackout with its own passage. So based on the massive Apollo style reentry fire cone shes already putting out shes most likely going to be out of coms until she slows down orrrrrr craters into Remnants surface with the force of a meteor. 

And no. I dont think shes dead. The fact that, DESPITE being surrounded by the kind of fireball that worked its way into the fueltank of the space shuttle Discovery and blew it and its crew to bits on reentry, she was still intact...shes probably going to be fine.

Hacked, certainly, but fine. It takes more than that to finish her. Besides now that shes hacked, she has to fight Ruby. We all want that right?

Ahh good to see Winter in full armor now. Or...close to it. Im sure some of its a support rig for her injuries but I like to think this is the start of Atlas’s Specialist Weaponization Program.

Cinder is the scullery maid. This is a flashback, note Cinders clawing of the seat in cadence to the scrub brush. I do not see this as a new character being introduced like Oscar was in vol4.

Neos face....If she wasn't planning on backstabbing Cinder before, I daresay Cinder claiming credit for gaining the Lamp just painted bullseyes on her kidneys.

Oh...shit. Children made mommy Salem raise her hand. "Just because you are more valuable to me than a pawn does NOT make you a player." I have SO gotta remember that line. And that dismissive little wave? ummmph.

Take a good look at that pic above. The furred hands with claws? I've seen people argue mole or sloth. I say nope- He is a badger. The cap, tweed jacket, dour expression, two tone hair...all scream British/european badger to me. And intresting developement, Fiona calls him Uncle in chapter 2.

Weiss is trying, but dark humor is still a bit beyond her...

Nope, no sacrificial gestures to maybe save the world, Penny. Nuh uh no one is having it.

Ok, that started out a bit heated, but they've identified 2 goals that need to happen, split into 2 parties that consciencly or not the individuals skills best suit the party they are with. I agree with Oscar and Jaune, this is more the Scooby Gang splitting up to look for clues than the MCU Civil War split that Ruby, Yang, and a good chunk of the fandom think it is.

Why the new teams make sense to me- Team RNBW+ Weiss and Penny for knowlege of the layout of the base. Blake and May, stealth. Ruby, speed. Nora...well, when the plan goes awry, who better to ride the wave of chaos than Chaos Incarnate herself? So with Nora, Penny, and Weiss' summons, you've got 3 very heavy hitters that can really wreck things once subtlety is out.

Team YJRO yeah I know its bzckwads but some object otherwise. The Jaune Ren semblence combo to corral civvies and keep em calm,With Yang providing frontline and Oscar second tier DPS, they should do fine. Other than Ren, their skillsets don't lend well to sneaking into secure facilities...

Ironwood you manipulative fuck.... Good on Ruby to tell him where to stick it. Now, at this point, I had a VERY small glimmer of hope for the Tinman, and had a wild what if moment- What if Ruby took the chance and told Ironwood-"Hey, look, let us have the arena codes, we'll finish the tower, get the word out and distract Salem while you get the rest of Mantle and Atlas to safety".... but nope, Jimmy boy thinks HE is the only way to save Remnant.

And boy howdy did Ironknickers lose it.Judging by the reactions after shooting Sleet: Marrow wants out. That is a "What the FUCK am I doing here?" face. Vine, unmoved. Will most likely stay the course. Elm looks shook, could be convinced to go or stay Harriet seems all aboard the Mad Tyrant train, Winter looks to be same spot as Elm, could go either way. Penny and Weiss gotta have a heart to heart with her.

Salem: FETCH.

A goodly chunk of Yang&co in chapter 2 we have seen in the teasers and trailer, not too much new in the first half aside from Yang putting the verbal smackdown on a bigoted old bitch. And damn that was fun to watch. Like how the one lady doesn't give up her weapon, a snowshovel.

I really like the Snowbyrd(Schneewood Forest!) ship, but how can you cast aside competent, cute, bubbly, cute (seriously weapons grade adorable) Fiona? More of her, please?

Sweet fluffy demons.Weiss plan to get into the base is to mail themselves up there? Anyone who has seen Heavy Metal knows pnuematic tubes and robots dont get along. And holy... NORA!

Ok, the thing thinks. It talks. And it can morph. @fandompariah I think crwby owes you a credit mention at the very least.

the worst part for me is just,, i dont even care about the plot anymore.

that episode was good otherwise. i loved the fight with the ace ops and maria's arrival made me giggle. i loved the talk with penny and winter and i was so interested and anxious about what would happen with cinder. i was SO excited to see neo, i love her so much, i can't even begin to express. i was so READY. and then that ending happened.

and now i don't even care about the rest. i can't even begin to theorize what i think is gonna happen next. where's rwby headed next? beats me. is neo gonna transform into pyrrha to fuck with jnr? who knows. is cinder gonna kill penny and a maiden again? oh well. at this point, whatever happens, happens.

i didn't even really ship fair game, but seeing the treatment of our only hinted-at mlm ship was sickening. i dont even know if ill watch c13. unless fndm says good things, i dont know if ill bother. the finale can only go so many ways, anyway, and i doubt any of it will surprise or enthrall me like it used to.

and im so angry that excitement was taken from me.

RWBY Musings #64: A Squiggles Meister’s Views on the potential parallels between the RWBY V3 and V6 finales.

I’ve been saying this for a while now but I believe the CRWBY Writers might be gearing us fans up to have the V6 finale pay homage to the epic V3 finale or at least that’s my theory. So if I had to guess the parallels to V3 that might pop up during the V6 finale, here’s what I think they’ll be:

 Grimm Rampage through Vale ------ Grimm Rampage through Argus

During V3, the City of Vale got rampaged by hordes of Grimm including one colossal Grimm Dragon. I have been wondering what the point of the Wall of Argus was alluding to. I still stand by my previous hunch that something is going to come from beyond the wall to rampage the city. Either that’s the case or the one in my next parallel.

Grimm Dragon from Mountain Glenn ----- Grimm Hecatonchire from the Wall of Argus

A bit of a stretch but what if… there’s secretly a Grimm Titan like a Hecatonchire Grimm that’s secretly hidden inside the Wall of Argus. Since Cordo preached about her Atlesian ancestors helping to form Argus, imagine if those same ancestors put Grimm inside the Wall of Argus or built the city around one that’s been dormant for centuries just like the Grimm Dragon.

In the series, Attack on Titan, it was revealed in a later season that there were Titans in the actual walls that were supposed to keep humanity safe from the Titans. Imagine how cool it would be if a Grimm Hecatonchire suddenly immerged from the Wall of Argus in the same fashion as the Grimm Dragon in V3 and similar to its Dragon counterpart, it also brings forth legions of Grimm to prey on the innocent civilians of Argus, forcing the Argus Military to cease their pursuit of our heroes and take immediate charge to protect the citizens of Argus.

Huntsman vs Atlesian Paladins-----Huntsmen vs Atlesian Megazord

In V3, we got all the main huntsmen from different academies working together to defend Beacon against the swarm of corrupted Atlesian Paladins. Now in V6, it seems C10 set up out heroes who, may not be from different academies but represent the diversity of the kingdoms in a sense (minus Vacuo) going toe to toe against Cordo and her Atlesian Megazord.

In V3, we got Weiss summoning part of her Armour Gigas for the first time. Right now, Weiss’s trademark summon is the only thing that can grow to a size big enough to give Cordo’s giant megazord a run for its money provided she has the aura levels to do so. I’m sure if Jaune were to amplify Weiss’ aura, the same way he did with her last season and at the start of V6 with Ren, we could get our first ever giant robot vs giant armoured summon fight in the history of RWBY.

Velvet Weapon Reveal ----- Oscar Weapon Reveal

Need I say more? V3 was the first time we saw Velvet’s weapon and her semblance I think too in action. Who knows? If we play our cards right we might finally see what the Oz-cane can do at its true power because as a Pinehead, I have definitely been wondering what tricks to the Oz-cane Oz was talking about back in V5.

Cinder killed Ozpin ---- Neo kills Oscar

Now before my fellow Pineheads come at me with them pitchforks for daring to even theorize this, let me explain my hunch. What if…on the same level as Adam’s reappearance, Cinder Fall also shows her face in Argus and she targets Ruby as expected. So Cinder overpowers Ruby with Neo’s help and just as Neo is about the deal the final blow to Ruby, Oscar jumps in and takes it for her, right through the heart.

I have been hearing this whole thing about Neo doing something to make the fandom hate her going around for a while and I’ve even had one or two fellow FNDM come to me with the theory of Neo harming Oscar. Well here’s my rendition of that theory. What if…Neo goes in for the kill on Ruby but Oscar daringly jumps infront of Ruby to shield her and takes it. So Oscar is there on the ground on the cusp of death. Maybe to make the situation even more dramatic, he straight up does die in Ruby’s arms, shocking her and the fandom.

Then after Oscar technically dies, instead of going to the afterlife as one would expect or reincarnating, Oscar shockingly winds up in the Realm between Realms where he meets the God of Darkness, similar to how God of Light met with Ozma. To Oscar’s surprise, a reluctant Ozpin is also present. The God of Darkness then offers the two souls something neither could refuse. He offers them the chance to undo what his brother did centuries ago. As it turns out, the whole reincarnation thing was all Light’s idea because he still believed in humanity and that they could change.

His brother felt the opposite but he did want to entertain himself a bit with his brother’s immortal pet. So he offers both Ozpin and Oscar the chance to undo his brother’s curse so that they may return to their normal lives free of having to be revived to continue his brother’s dirty work. 

But he only offers the deed to one. In order to decide who gets to return to the land of the living, God of Darkness forces Oscar and Ozpin to fight each other one and one to see which soul gets revived only. And to Oscar’s surprise, Ozpin actually wants to fight him so that he can finally be free. So the two souls fight. Of course, Oscar wins and gets to go back but this time he’ll be revived by himself as himself. No longer will he have Ozpin’s voice inside of his head. He’ll be his own person again. He’ll be…alone; a comment made by a grief stricken Ozpin.

It’d be interesting if we could get an equivalent of Oscar calling out Ozpin in the same manner Ruby did to Qrow in V6 C10. Oscar scolds Ozpin for his words implying that he’s never been alone. He’s always had his people. His friends and so does Oscar and so long as they accept him and wish to keep fighting, so will he until his dying breath. His last dying breath in his now only life.

The God of Light’s curse was bestowed so that Ozma was never alone during his cycle but Oscar would be revived as himself without Ozpin. He will be the last incarnate. The last life. The last Wizard of Light. So as Ozpin goes to the afterlife, Oscar returns to the real world where he returns as himself to continue the good fight.

This parallel will probably not happen at all. Definitely not. But as always, I wanted to toss it out there just to entertain myself at the possibility, y’know what I mean?

Team JNPR dies with Pyrhha ---- Team JNPR is reborn with Oscar

Ya’ll know I’ve been saying this since the beginning, right? Ya’ll know how much I want that Team JNPR Revival with Oscar replacing Pyrhha right? I feel like these past two episodes are slowly gearing up to have this happen. Though I didn’t particularly enjoy C9, it did give me my biggest indicators of Jaune asking Oscar to join JNR. 

That Pyrhha closure for JNR. Jaune mentioning in his own words how valuable Oscar is to the team. Bruh, at this point, I’m just waiting for this to come. I’m waiting on this conversation.

Cinder killed Pyrhha----Jaune kills Cinder

This one I’m a little iffy about. I know I’ve been waiting for Jaune to have Justice for Pyrhha moment with Cinder but after C9 I don’t think Jaune will be as angry to kill Cinder anymore. I mean, if Cinder turns into a Grimm monster or gets eaten by a Grimm only to fuse with said Grimm making her less human. Then I can see Jaune being the one to deal the final blow on Grimm Cinder. I’ve said this before too. If anyone deserves to kill Cinder, it’s Jaune.

I doubt the Writers will make him kill her as human but…if she turns into a Grimm then it’s a bigger possibility but that’s just me.

Adam vs Blake and Yang ----- Adam vs Blake and Yang The Remix

Duh. Just duh. This doesn’t even need to be on the list because it’s something the season has been alluding to all volume. Plus C10 already showed it happening. The only twist I can think of from this fight is if Adam dying at the end. I know some people like Adam as a character (like EruptionFang) but I really feel the Writers might be setting up for V6 to be Adam’s curtain call.

I can’t see Adam moving forward, not after the focus he’s been given this season. It’ll be interesting if Adam ends up dying in a similar fashion to Gaston from the Beauty and the Beast. Like he tries to stab Blake but ends up missing and falling to his death. Or maybe he ends up caught on the ledge and Blake tries to help him. Like I’m picturing Adam on the ledge with Blake offering him her hand only for Adam to refuse and fall to his death or something. That’s my hunch.

Then after the Adam fight is one and he’s no longer a thorn in their lives, the Bumblebee could finally have their closure with that. Who knows? Maybe they might make Bumblebee have a moment in the V6 finale. Instead of Blake crying over Yang getting hurt, it’s the two smiling at each other after being found safe together. Maybe they might even kiss, who knows? I’m not a Bumblebee shipper but if a kiss somehow happens between these two gals, I won’t be shocked. I can expect Yang to kiss Blake revealing she’s in love with her.

Again, I ship BlackSun but Bumblebee peaks my curiosity particularly with how Yang sees Blake. I’ve always viewed the Bees as being a ship driven by Yang mostly. Ironic since Yang’s motorcycle is also named Bumblebee. Any Bumblebee hints or vibes I’ve gotten throughout the seasons came mostly from Yang. I think Yang might care for Blake in the romantic sense. Blake I’m not sure about.

I don’t know if Bumblebee is in the cards. All I know is that I think the series has kind of dropped one or two hints about Yang’s true feelings that I’m waiting to see addressed in some shape or form in this remix rematch battle. If all the Bees do is hug then cool. But if they kiss, I’m just saying I won’t be shocked. But that’s just me.

 Arkos First Kiss ---- Renora First Kiss

Nothing serious, I just want to see these two kids kiss finally. And what would be great is if Nora and Ren kiss after the group save Argus. The Arkos first kiss was bittersweet because it was Pyrhha’s last chance to let the boy she loves know how she felt about him before she sacrificed herself. A Renora after battle kiss would mean hope and happiness. For Pete’s sake, it’s been six seasons, let these two kiss already you cowards!

The Battle Ends Eventually

"Any last words, Ozpin?" Cinder said, stepping on his heaving chest.

"Hajhh....urg... Cinder... You and I both know my last words... Wont really be my last."

"Yes but the professor you are possessing might have some? Why not let him say his, since he wont be reincarnating?"

"You might not like what he has to say."

"Shut up Ozpin, let your possession victim speak." Cinder growled.

Ozpin smiled and nodded.

He opened his mouth.

"WHAT IS LOVE?"

"BABY DONT HURT ME?"

"DONT HURT ME..."

"NO MORE."

Emerald started grinning and head bobbing while he sang. "This is the shit!" She said.

"Emerald I can still make a whip out of fire if you keep swearing." Cinder said, and looked down at Ozpin. "You made your point, now stop singing!"

Problem was, his song echoed throughout Beacon and Penny and Uncle Qrow had come flying in on swords and crow wings to save him. Emerald was unluckily distracted and was viciously slashed aside by Uncle Qrows scythe. She tumbled away with her aura low and with light scratches going up her abdomen. "Ahh...! Fuck! That hurt like a-"

"What did I just..?" Cinder formed a fire whip, but then noticed Qrow rushing towards her. She lashed with her whip and in the blink of an eye it burned his hand and wrapped around the scythe. She yanked it back, sending it flying.

Unfortunately for Cinder, it came flying towards her. She used her flame sword to knock it aside, but it distracted her from Penny who was rolling towards her.

Yes, rolling. Penny was in the center of a flying wheel made of swords. A wheel that could slice a person in half, or at least stab them if they had aura left. Cinder didnt notice until the last second, and the only thing she could do was raise her sword in defense. Meanwhile Ozpin continued to sing.

CHIIIING!

Fire and sparks blew everywhere as Cinder was struck by a few swords that broke away from the wheel when it got halted. She unleashed a fireball at close range in a rage, causing an explosion that engulfed her and Penny.

Qrow and Emerald watched. There was just a cloud of smoke and the sound of electricity crackling. As the spoke rose, he could see Penny. She lay there with her legs jittering uncontrollably. Her face and toso had been blackened, but her green eyes glowed through the smoke seemingly just fine. She was protected by a swirling forcefield of swords spinning around her in spread out high-speed orbits.

Penny had nothing really to say. Penny was legitimately scared, as she was not a bot without feelings. Of course, Penny was known to be brave so she could overcome her fear but it remained there nonetheless. She located Cinder above her. "There!" She cried out and pointed up. Cinder was floating on silent halos of blue flame under her feet. Ozpin tried to sit up, coughing, but and arrow pinned him to the ground.

"Oz, no!" Uncle Qrow said, shocked. He had his scythe back, and flung it up at Cinder who was rushing towards him with Phoenix wings.

It missed, because cinder did not actually move from her levitation spot. The scythe embedded itself in the floor several meters away.

"Dammit! Again with the illusions!"

Penny glared up at her, finally having something to say to her. "You.. You killed so many people! Nobody had to die today, if you just stayed home! So many humans and faunus are...!"

"I dont care. And you are just a silly little robot." Cinder said in a strangely seductive voice. She blocked several swords with a firewall so hot that when the swords came through, they crackled and turned off and clattered to the floor. The air itself around Cinder was vibrating. She loaded another arrow into the bow, and yanked back the string...

The string broke.

"What the..."

"My, what bad luck you seem to be having." Uncle Qrow said.

Cinder formed a flaming spear in her hands. "No matter." She said. But there was matter. Atlas soldiers were rushing into the hall. A pair of very brave men loaded a large bazooka with water dust, and fired at Cinder. "ACK!" She was instantly engulfed in steam. The loaded another while other soldiers fired regular machines guns at her. The firewall was less effective in stopping these. Cinder threw a massive fireball their way, incinerating several men.

Penny meanwhile was taking the time to charge up her final attack. It was taking longer to charge than usual the charge up because a few of her swords were non-functional. Emerald tried to warn Cinder but a small piece of the ceiling had dislodged and fell on her head, knocking her out. How unlucky for her.

Penny fired. But unluckily for her Cinder chose that exact moment to charge the remaining soldiers with her sword. Her beam blasted the ceiling in a long arc as she tried to hit cinder with it, but no luck.

"Uncle Qrow!" Penny glared at him. "Youre supposed to be on my side!"

"I cant help it kid, sorry." Uncle Qrow said as he pulled his scythe from the floor by making revert to the smooth sword form and chased after Cinder. Penny flew up off the ground using her swords for lift and pursued her outside as well.

Today at Beacon Academy, the white fang brutally attacked the school with illegal weapons and attempted to free their local leader, Adam Taurus. Adam Taurus remains in captivity. The attack failed thanks to the assistance of an Atlas robot named Penny Polendina, who blew back the gas clouds and stopped many of the criminals herself. This bought the academy time until the turbine suction ships arrived to clear the air completely and reinforcements arrived to secure the grounds. However, there was an attack on the headmaster as well. This attack was carried out by two women, named Cinder and her adoptive daughter Emerald. Headmaster Ozpin was legally injured. The fate of Beacon is uncertain, but an injured teacher by the name of Glynda Goodwitch has been nominated for becoming the new headmistress. "I have plans to change our prisoner rules here." Glynda has been quoted on saying.

Several members of the white fang retreated from school grounds. If you see any members of the organization, contact your local authorities immediately.

General Ironwood: Penny Polendina appears to have been damaged multiple times. A cut in her side allowed for flame to get into her insides, messing up the circuitry leading down in her legs. A few of her swords need to be made for her as well. Oh, the villains? Reports show that two members of Cinders posse were subdued but we cannot seem to find them anywhere. Cinder herself was able to get away without... What she came here for.

Ruby: Penny! Is Penny okay?? Carefully guys, shes a hero!

Torchwick: Stop handcuffing me! I didnt attack the school! I helped defend it! Neo stop giggling this is not funny! Okay I guess it is a little funny but OW LET ME GO!

Cinder: Okay sure that did not go as planned but we did get Ozpin. Thats what really matters right..? I hope Salem understands... Why am I talking to you about this? Go away.

your char an oc? nOT ANYMORE. theyre canon chars now. maybe they write the show. direct. tell qrow off when he almost posts spoilers on twitter. ANYTHING

whats a crossover? the ocs you rp with are now actors/crew in their own universe’s movie/game/tv show. the chars from other fandoms are actors/crew in their source’s show/movie/game. 

your ship a rarepair u jump through hoops to put together? not anymore!! their actors are shacking up. 

lbr we’re all suffering the hiatus. who needs canon material for this!! they’re in shooting for the eps that’ll air in october.

taiyang and summer club together every year to fund a holiday for the entire cast and crew to celebrate the end of a season. they buy out an entire plane for the journeys and instigate travelling songs 

taiyang is a writer for the show who played ruby and yang’s dad more as a cameo, but got given more scenes when the character proved rlly popular 

summer is a writer too. noone, not even tai knows she’s gonna be playing summer when she shows up later in the show >:3c 

emerald and cinder being best friends who play up icly for the fans. emerald throws down on twitter with anyone who harrasses cinder for playing a baddie 

winter wasn’t an actor originally. she writes novels, but she was on set one day waiting for weiss to finish shooting so they could go to lunch. 

she was given first dibs on an audition to play weiss’ ic sister and nails it. weiss insists she’s not even acting, she’s just Really Like This 

winter writes fanfic of emerald/cinder on ao3 for shits and giggles dont @ me. noone knows its her bc she uses winter’s ic callsign as a username and ppl just assume its a winter fan

this is yang’s first big acting job, but she’s Known in celebrity circles because her mom is the Very Famous Raven Branwen.raven’s a household name 

raven subsequently gets cast as her real mom because it just makes sense and would boost the series’ popularity following her guest appearance at the end of volume 2 

qrow is very vocal about his character’s storylines and supports charities relating to substance abuse. he frequently finds himself in twitter discourse with fans because he loudly discourages romanticising his character 

this gets him accused of hating his character, which he doesn’t. fandom either loves him or hates him 

qrow and raven arent siblings but they might as well be because they’re so fking close and roast each other on twitter all the time 

neo’s actress is actually a really famous opera singer who’s breaking into acting. this gives rise to the popular fanon that neo actually can talk and has a bitchin’ voice but chooses not to. 

emerald’s an orphan. she bounced around kids homes and developed a great talent for lying in the process. hearing a drama teacher describe acting as ‘lying really well’ sealed the deal for her career choice. she’s had bit parts and lives in a shitty apartment until rwby becomes her first big break. 

coco was a big actress in france. she came to america seeking to break into hollywood, and found it pretty difficult. she’s emerald’s roommate, and it’s emerald who tells her about the opening for a member of team cfvy and pushes her to audition. 

ilia has to wear one of those green screen suits all the time so they can animate her scales. yang gets a selfie with her every time she’s wearing it. takes upon takes have been ruined by blake and sun laughing at her. 

it annoys ilia at first. then, she starts to find it funny. then, she gets her own back by purposefully making people laugh. she does the yoshi mlem every time she cracks her whip. 

pyrrha’s actress routinely gets bit parts and cameos in future volumes bc the cast and crew love her so much they want her around all the time. she’s like 50% of the reason a comedy mini-series where nothing bad happens exists alongside the main series. 

the entire cast and crew rallying around cinder after v3 when the fan backlash comes from pyrrha’s onscreen death. they throw a party after to celebrate pyrrha and cinders great performances. its a greek theme

team rwby, smartasses that they are, all come dressed as achilles with little papier mache arrows stuck in their heels

weiss is a Career Showman. she started off in ballet, then moved to broadway, then onto the bigscreen. she’s had a huge amount of success despite how young she is, and was continually pushed to land greater and greater roles. she suffered a very publicised breakdown because of the stress. 

she ‘disappeared’ in the showbiz scene when she went to live with winter in her remote little writing shack in the middle of assfuck nowhere to recharge. 

rwby is her first acting job since then. she was hesitant to start back at all, but finds herself extremely supported and refreshed by the small, close-knit production. 

blake’s had to work twice as hard for every role she’s ever landed due to being an ethnic minority. her professionalism makes her seem closed off and cold, so she hasn’t made many friends. she has a small, devoted fanbase, though.

summer is one of those fans, and has always wanted to cast blake in something. her character was written with her in mind, and summer was elated when blake accepted the proffered audition and subsequent role in rwby. 

ruby is summer and tai’s daughter!! they are not shy at all about saying that her part was written For Her. they don’t apologise for it either fuck u they created this show they cast who they want. 

the red trailer only initially existed for ruby to do a screentest of her character. it was so well produced and nailed so hard they made it promotional material and wrote the white, black and yellow ones to go with it. 

ruby grew up reading her parents’ stuff and writing her own, too. in school, she wrote, directed and produced an entire play for her classmates, but never thought of acting until her parents suggested she play the lead in this new show they’ve been thinking about. 

ruby and yang met on set. they’ve been thick as thieves ever since.

Rwby Catchup V7E10

Writing this after the fact, so non-chronological order: Weiss mom has a drinking problem, in the same episode that reminds us Qrow is trying to kick the same habit. To indicate exactly how terrible a parent Jaques is, she cries happy tears from hearing her daughter isnt coming back home. Whitley hates his sisters for abandoning him to his father. (great scene, great characterisation. Love it entirely). I dont ship it (yet) or anything, but i do hope they’ll join the same AA group at some point. Imagine the thrill of getting to arrest your own dad. Arthur is still sort of generic, but he’s earned a trait besides Smarm and Science: He’s a half-decent salesperson. Also a bit of a showman with a sense of drama. Innocents are about to freeze, and i’ll admit that i like seeing a businessman turned corrupt politician actually face accountability but i dont know if thats the writing or my frustration with the having access to the internet during the Trump Administration. I hope this’ll be the end of his character, he seems like exactly the type of villain whose presence is better felt in absence. (as in the scar on Weiss’ face is enough presence on its own, we dont actually need his presence that much. I might be wording it badly. Basically im worried they’re gonna stage a breakout scene for him and he’ll overstay his unwelcome as a character.) Neopolitan is back, and she still leaves me feeling as cold about her presence in the narrative as the icecream she is named after, but that’s largely because its hard to characterise a character who does not speak. (but then, her being a one-note character is actually a strength. The same as Wile-E-Coyote being one-note is a good thing).  This brings me to a little segment that I call “Richard struggles to figure out what the deal with Emerald & Neo even is”. Today on RSTFOWTDE&NES: I’ll openly but shamefully admit it took me verry long to realise that neo’s semblance was some kind of pseudo-illusion thing? Though at least some have seemed semi-tangible. In my defense her earliest appearances mostly had her use it to vanish into thin air so i thought she was just a teleporter like Ruby. Then when i finally figured out Neo had illusions, i sort of got confused and thought a lot of Emeralds things in the tournament where actually Neo doing that. I guess what im trying to say is its kind of weird for the villains to have 2 different illusion-based characters, and for one of them to have an “only one target at a time” limitation. like thats sort of weird isnt it? I might be misremembering, but did Maid!Neo talk to Weiss? Or was that a different maid who has been stuffed into a closet off-screen so Neo could take her place afterwards? Its sort of unclear to me. Cinder is also here, God i hope she gets a character besides “generic hunger for power” at some point but if there is i havent seen it yet. But its nice to know that Ozpin isnt the only one whose lieutenants can betray them at least, not much to say she’s still spending most of the plot looking ominously. Whitley crying on the stairs, This family needs more hugs and less alcohol. Robyn, you’re nice. I dont know what more to say. You’re the only character in Atlas i would trust to run a popsiclestand, Not a lot of deep going on with her, but Robin Hood parodies live and thrive by virtue of their simplicity. They finally tell James that Salem cant be killed and that they lied about the relic’s number of questions, i’ll admit i only ever understood one of those two lies. (They could’ve just claimed “ozpin told us she cant be killed/do you really believe that if she could be killed Ozpin wouldnt have succeeded a thousand lifetimes ago). Does this mean the tower is cancelled? Is operation “100 Shions at once” finally cancelled? NO because Oscar said to stop keeping Salem a secret, so that plan is still a go apparently.  The Penny and Winter Dont Understand Eachother scene was great, and i adored the moment Winter thought “oh shit, did i just pull a robo-racism?”. Verry “Pyrrha accidentally implies Jaune should jump off the roof” energy there.

She only cared about Roman. WhY was she so attached to him. What made her so ruthless. Did something happen to make her mute or was she always that way. Is that why she was so attached to Roman. I gotta know
