What are the BaliGHTS kids’ roles in the war to overthrow Wiseman?

Wizeman is actually overthrown by the time the first one happens! NiGHTS and Reala end up reconciling a lot more after the fall (they were on like, okayish but awkward terms during the lead up to the war) with Reala finally having joined the resistance and still feigning loyalty to Wizeman. Realizing they both need a lot of work (read: therapy), they try their best to regain some semblance of a sibling relationship, but it's difficult and a few hundred years of being at odds isn't undone overnight.

So, Wonderworld ends up appearing to the both of them now that the Night Dimension is in a new era of peace, they meet Balan and Lance and end up being helped majorly by the two. NiGHTS hangs out in Wonderworld and the theatre a bunch because they still feel very uncomfortable around Nightmare as a whole, and it becomes a bit like a second home. Friendship blooms between NiGHTS and Balan, romance eventually blossoms and then bing bang boom, chaos offspring

so this is based on my ramble in the byler discord but im gonna try and compress it into something readable n shit

So in the recent panel with my king Finn Wolfhard, my boy dropped a hint. A very important hint.

So Mike is going to the UD in S5. Im very unsurprised and im sure you are as well but lets fuckin talk about it bc holy fuck.

So I know this is the byler community but listen to me when i say, hold my hand and look me in the eyes when i say, I highly doubt that this friend Finn is talking about is Will. ESPECIALLY if byler is canon. Finn is very media trained and you can read legit anything he has ever said about the show and know how good he is about keeping secrets. If this friend was will we wouldn't have mentioned it. It's too close to the danger zone. He would have said something like 'i dont think i'd be out there fighting monsters and risking my life' or something like that. Which is much more vague and can apply to all seasons.

My theory is that this friend is max. CALL ME CRAZY. it could be anyone and I dont have exact reasoning on why its Max other than the fact that shes the only friend actively in danger rn and i adore madwheeler friendship with my heart and soul. But imo its def not Will and its not El.

Now if you go through the main characters there are only (if my memory is correct) 3 characters who havent been to the UD yet.

Lucas, Jonathan and Mike.

Other Characters:

El- Season 1 during the school battle (possibly sooner in the lab idk)

Will- all of s1 duh

dustin- season 4 with eddie

max - season 4 when she was vecna'd

So Lucas, Jonathan and Mike.

What do these 3 characters all have in common.

They are all a part of one of the main relationships that had issues in season 4. And what are these problems? Lets assess.

Jonathan is stressed because he doesnt want to go to the same school as nancy. He wants to tell her but he knows that she'll give up what she wants to be with him. He doesnt want to hold her back. Nancy feels shut out and afraid that Jonathan doesnt love her anymore. She wants to be together but she doesnt want to put Jonathan in a situation where he has to choose something over something else. They are having issues communicating.

Lucas is stressed about max because he wants to be there for her. Max is shutting him out due to the fact that she feels unworthy of his love or because she is scared of getting hurt and attached to someone. Lucas is hurt because he feels max doesn't trust him. They are having issues communicating.

Mike is stressed about about two people. El and Will. And for this brief moment we're going to look at this in a non byler pov. Mike is stressed about El because he doesn't know what she wants. He wants them to be happy but they aren't and he's not sure how to fix that. He also doesnt ask. Communication issue. Mike is stressed about Will because they aren't talking the way they used too. They dont tell each other anything anymore. They've drifted and Mike doesn't know what's going on anymore. Communication issue.

Interesting.

Thoughout the series the UD has been used as a symbol of all the hard things. Depending on what theories you believe (*cough* lonnie *cough*) this can have more or less meaning but lets assess how going to the UD has affected two of these relationships so far.

Jancy-

Jancy in season one was very tense. they were not friends for a good part of the season. They had constant issues with each other and fought a lot. Then barb goes missing. Will goes missing. They go to the forest in an attempt to figure it out. And Nancy ends up in the UD. Her going into the UD and making it out alive is the catalyst for her and Jonathan to get past their differences, to see each other for who they are and to put their pride aside enough to work together and appreciate the other as a fellow person.

Lumax-

Lumax had a lot of issues with communication and not being able to understand each other in the beginning of s4. They couldn't see eye to eye no matter what lucas did and max was very shut out. Then Max get's vecna'd and comes back. And then lumax finds the strength to communicate for the first time in the season, to see where the other is coming from and allow the other to be there for them.

So what does this mean for Mike. Well, both nancy and max had something that they we're struggling to overcome. A fear that they couldn't escape. Nancy's was barb and Max's was billy. Jonathan and lucas both have something they are afraid to express. Jonathan's is that he wants something diff than nancy and Lucas is that he wants to be there for her but doesnt want to intrude. All of these characters were pushed to solving these issues because of the Upside down (well jancy's recent issue hasn't been solved yet but ykwim).

Mike is going to go to the UD. Which is going to push him into a state of giving in on holding back his feelings. He's going to have to overcome something

El wants to be together, to be happy.

Will is afraid of his feelings, afraid of letting himself want what he wants and being hurt. He feels unworthy of love.

And Mike doesnt want what El wants. Mike loves Will but he is afraid of intruding.

So anyways thats why mike going to the UD means internalized homophobia thanks for coming to my ted talk i'd love to hear yalls ideas :D

I feel like almost all the time, twst is just presented as being almost the exact same earth but with magic™️ and it's getting a little boring

I feel as if though there should be like more cultural differences to make it feel more alive and fleshed out, but I do understand that it would've taken way more time and effort to write the story if the author decided to write it in such a way

Like what about all the animal hybrids? Weird cultural things? Seems that beastfolk all have a few differences that doesn't really get explored. I mean all these mages and they dont even use magic for little things a lot. At least Jamils nightwear card actually had him doing his hair with magic and all. Malleus at least relies on it a lot.

We don't even get to see what the magical classes are like. Can I learn more about Leonas homeland and their traditions? Magic doesn't seem as important there. I mean we have a whole region that's based off Alice in Wonderland and we never get to touch that? In the event they literally ate the dumb cookies that make you grow and shrink and that's it? There's gotta be some batshit there. You think they still do beheadings?

The novel has a but more to work with especially with the fact that "Human" seems to also refer to merfolk and beastmen which is ? I guess human is a general term with a few subclasses like Human-merfolk? What about fae? Also NRC doesn't have a lot of students compared to campus. 100 per dorm is still a lot but look at how BIG the campus is. How do the dorm mirrors work? Are they pocket dimensions?

Also as tropey as it is there HAS to be some silly potionology shenanigans and mistakes. Like a body swap thing or just a voice changer would be mildly entertaining.

Cipher and TB lunged at each other. It was hard to see the exact nature of the time fight but there were a lot of clocks, portals, and paradoxes involved. At one point someone used nunchucks made out of two Abe Lincolns, and there was a moment where they both clipped through reality jostled the card carrier in Dennis’s backpack. But ultimately Cipher’s henchmaniacs dealt TB a devastating blow. We Time Agents were leaderless, forced to regroup back in 20712.

But we knew this wasn’t over.

Sometimes it’s important to know when to let a show go. 

When 13 regenerated into 14 and had her clothes burnt off like a witch on a stake, sending a horrible message about women and gender RTD came out and said he did it to protect David from right wing media. Then the fans defended David coming back and that RTD would address why he had that face and why the clothes also regenerated, although I was upset with 13s regeneration I thought ok I’ll wait and see how this get handles. Because even though I don’t like the real world messaging maybe the in world messaging will be enough to make it ok.

But then what happens? We get a trans story for the very first story with very positive messaging for trans issues which is great but undermined by the fact RTD wanted to protect David from gender critiques by the right wing but didn’t seem to want to protect Yasmin Finney. So first David can’t wear Jodies costume for protection but then RTD has Yasmin live through being deadnamed in the show which she herself has said made her uncomfortable and then also gave her character the line of telling the Doctor to not assume pronouns… which any of the characters could have done but RTD chose Rose and then what happen? What always happens with the right wing, the pronoun line and the male presenting line are the ones that the right wing all go on about in every video, in every article… they deadname the character and then misgender and say horrible things about Yasmin… so RTD protects the 50+ year old white man who’s worn way more feminine things then 13 outfit in his career the media could use if they wanted to go after him but don’t protect the 20 year old Trans Woman? How people aren’t talking about how fucked up that is I don’t know.

Then we get no reason why the Doctor has that face and why the clothes regenerated on them. Then in their own regeneration… they don’t! They bi-regenerates and this time Ncuti does get the Doctor clothes, well half of them… why didn’t 15 regenerate with their own clothes? No instead we have the new Doctor walking around with no pants on… and why is it that 15 has to go pantless and not David? are we protecting David again? Perfectly fine to have a bunch of pics of 15 in his tighty whities and no pants but again David could not be seen in 13s full gender neutral outfit. 

Then to top all this off theres no mention in the loves lost of Yaz… even though the Doctor chose to drop her off in a park 3 days ago after telling her if they could Date anyone it would be Yaz… is that not love lost? Was saying good bye to Yaz not an emotional trigger? Now people are saying thats because only the dead were brought up… Rose is not dead unlike Yaz Rose is not only alive in another Dimension but also got herself a Doctor… Yaz currently is mourning the Doctor while they cant even seem to remember she existed despite dropping her off 3 days a go… so they weren’t all dead… however Rose was over 1000 years ago and Yaz 3 days ago… what hurts more the lost of someone you loved but who is still alive from 50 years ago or the one you lost last week? What makes logical sense is the love you lost most recently hurts the most… and people dont need to die for you to hurt losing them from your life if you love them.

Now we have 2 Doctors and people are already saying they can’t wait for David Tennant episodes, so if you think the 10th Doctor overshadowed the other Doctors when he was no longer the Doctor how overshadowed do you think the first main Doctor of colour is going to be when lots of peoples favourite white Doctor ever is also a legitimate Doctor in universe existing at the exact same time with a TARDIS? Ncuti doesn’t event get to be the only Doctor during his tenure he has to share it with David.  

The lastly no mentions of Yaz at all… seems shes completely forgotten and at the very end the Doctor says they are finally with their family the happiest he’s ever been… what a diss of every TARDIS team ever that the Doctor has found family with… your last crew you literally called your ‘Fam’, the Ponds you actually married into… Susan was your flesh and blood… but no this family you haven’t seen in 1000 years, of which only one of who was part of your TARDIS team are the ones you finally found family with and make you the happiest you’ve ever be? Literally at the exact same time the Doctor is sitting at that table saying all of that, Yaz is mourning the Doctor and not wanting to have left the TARDIS, but she doesn’t get a mention because for some reason if it’s a wlw relationship it means nothing and can be ignored completely. 

Honestly by the end the Doctor just seems like a complete prick, and not in a 13 I’m dealing with internal trauma and I accidentally snapped way but just in a I’m a shit person way. Talk about compromised morals, people wouldn’t shut up about it with 13 but the Doctor just left a young woman to mourn them while being the “happiest they have ever been” grabbing themselves a new family and pretending Yaz doesn’t exist. Talk about shit morals. People say Chibs didn’t know anything from 12s era, which wasn’t true it directly affected the way 13 kept the fam at arms length but after watching this clearly RTD didn’t even know what happened in the episode 14 regenerated from 13 in and the previous episode Legend of the Sea Devils, because surely if you did, you wouldn’t not mention Yaz at all and give a reason why the Doctor wouldn’t go see her while she’s mourning them and just grabbing a new family and claiming to be the happiest you’ve ever been in the 2000 years of life you remember. Because that would make the character look like a prick, not a hero, which is exactly what happened. If RTD is the amazing writer people claim, he could have come up with a Yaz mention and a reason why the Doctor wasn’t going to see her.

I know not everyone was happy with the wlw representation with Thasmin but you know what’s way worse? Not even mentioning it or even acknowledging Yaz’s existence.

And to top it off I am so very very over the double standard of the fandom… this episode, had plot holes, had important things that weren’t explained… like why that face and why did the clothes regenerate… things that weren’t explained that weren’t so important like where did the sonic screw driver come from, why can it do all the things it now does… it had racism from both the Toymaker and Donna… what on earth was that line about ‘do you come in every colour’, was paced poorly, it clearly should have been longer and decided to mess with lore by creating bi-rengeration out of thin air and not explaining how it would effect things going forward or why it even happen, like a true WTF… if Chibs had done even one of these things, or wrote this episode the exact same way the fandom would be coming for him instead they are praising the genius of RTD not caring about any of those things, all the sins they claimed Chibs did and some of them on a bigger scale in this episode but the treatment of RTD is the polar opposite. 

It’s unbelievably hypocritical, and makes the fandom look even worse for being so hard on the first female Doctor because none of this was acceptable for her but its not only fine but great with a male Doctor.

So I think it’s time for me to let this show go, and know it’s time to bow out. Because unlike the people who have been horrible about 13 for the last 6 years I understand sometimes you have to step away from something you love when its no longer for you and leave it for other people to love.

A (probably) speculative question, if you dont mind.

Do you know how many miles long the Rainbow Bridge is from it's starting point in the city/palace to it's end point at Himinbjorg?

I read on the wiki that in the MCU, Asgard is about the size of the continental United States, which made me realise we see only a fraction of it on film. And that got me thinking about the dimensions of the city. And the population and where they live. We know so little about Asgard.

First, let's take a look at the view from Himinbjorg AND the palace:

As you can see, The Rainbow Bridge is very long and Himinbjorg is so far away it looks like a mere dot. When in reality, the structure itself is massive. Here you can see Heimdall standing inside for size comparison. The bridge is also quite wide.

Now, let's look at Valaskjalf: The palace is ginormous (these pillars right here are chambers, as seen in the scene where Frigga fights with Malekith- one of them is hers, and they can be barely seen when looking from the city's borders)

The entrance in the lower middle used to be the throne room before they moved it higher up and that is a great example of how big the halls are

Now for the entrance gate-

This entire section right here is BEHIND the gate.

As you can probably tell by now, the gate is outside the city.

While I cannot give you the exact number as it is not stated anywhere (not even in norse mythology) and I don't plan on spending my morning calculating how long a horse is and how many would fit lol, I think this is a good way of seeing just how big Asgard is. Remember, the realm is much bigger than the city. There are mountains surrounding it which were not really shown or explored apart from some brief scenes in Ragnarok (but I prefer to not treat that movie as canon on anything else but the look of the realm)

i genuinely adore the way that anatawa hitorijanai/the third part of the finale brings back the little motif with leo falling and raph jumping to save him in bug busters because it was such an important moment that really propelled raph along in his own abilities (although i personally interpret mystic powers as being more related to the individual and their emotions, while ninpo is more about. yknow. the family and their trust with each other since its hereditary, i see it as separate. post for later) but i always find it SO WEIRD that it's treated as like. a trust fall. because leo falling was not a trust fall. it was the opposite, actually.

is it representative of raph putting himself aside for the sake of his family? oh yeah. i do believe its a point that marks a turning point in the way he perceives the role of the oldest and leader, which is why i like the parallel because he puts the same into his younger brothers' hands. but was it really an act of trust? hell no! raph spent the entire episode NOT TRUSTING LEO. they were put in that exact position because raph cared a lot about being right just as much as leo did, and draxum dropped leo because raph didn't listen to him!!

leo pushed and bitched and begged pretty much that entire episode to be listened to, and raph never truly gave him the floor because he was expecting him from the get-go to be cynical and selfish. and even though leo can be those things at times, it didnt mean he wasnt a voice worth not listening to. and that did nearly get him killed! joke aside, leo shouting about his last words meant he really, really did not actually expect raph to do something like that, and raph jumped in a blind, panicked act of desperation for leo's sake. i think learning he SHOULD trust him from that point was something that should've been clarified, or they should've left the parallel more implicit tbh.

but you know what IS an excellent parallel to bug busters? the movie! their roles are reversed! raph has well learned the importance of taking things seriously and is loudly pushing for caution, and leo is pushing him away and shrugging it off like he's just being too pessimistic, its pretty much a HERE COMES THE FUN POLICE WEEWOO. which i think is like, the equivalent to raph's "she's a nice spider lady, why are you being so negative, do you just want to prove me wrong? you're up to something"

and i think a big reason raph is so loud about the lesson he's trying to pound into leo's skull is because of the exact lesson he learned in bug busters, because he definitely does actually see a lot of himself in leo (i do love when people play around with raph going "oh god did i teach him that" about some of leo's more self-destructive behavior btw, that's good A team angst) and i dont think he wants leadership back at all. he's perfectly fine with splitting the load, because they already have been The Big Brothers from the start and leo's been his second in command and cheerleader a lot before. but leo in his eyes is being vindictive and refusing to take this seriously, and i'm sure for raph it hits a little close to home! projection moment

this was honestly just me trying to say that i think the perfect leo/raph roof moment parallel should be their fight when raph is krang-ified, leo telling raph to go save donnie and mikey, and then him leaping into the prison dimension, just like raph leapt for him, because there was no other choice in order to save lives. it's the exact same type of move, bonus points with how leo points it out, "hero moves are your style".

(also potential parallel if you choose to interpret raph's tears as he jumps off the roof as overwhelming guilt because he suddenly realizes that his own choices brought them to this point, because like.... leo crying in the prison dimension..... same thing)

point is, love the raph trust fall in the third part of the finale. but i think the point of him catching leo was that he didn't trust him, and i think it wouldve been better to the finale trust fall more about how he's grown from the behavior that put them there back in bug busters.

OH AND AND AND this is compounded in by the B team moment RIGHT AFTER THAT with donnie and mikey, because that is an ACTUAL example of two brothers that genuinely, earnestly trust each other. donnie tells mikey to let go intentionally and mikey doesn't hesitate, because he knows donnie will always be there to catch him and he trusts him wholeheartedly. the difference is jarring and most likely intentional.

I've been marinating on some Rick Prime thoughts/theories. I might be completely wrong and way off base, but this was a delusional idea that ive had and can't seem to let go of sksjfdkdl this post got really long rIP to anyone who decides to read this

I'll be referring to this timeline I made. I'm basing the years off of known/confirmed ages in the show from when the show started airing in 2017, to track and pin down some possible key dates/time frames in the Sanchez/Smith family past.

I've always wondered about Prime and his timeline. Like, did he have a Diane before/during/after he met Rick? When did he meet her? How and why would he meet her? I feel the circumstances would greatly change the flavour and impact of their relationship, knowing this information!

But! Based off this timeline, i have reason to suspect that Prime met his Diane after he killed Rick's family, given that his Beth is younger than C137’s Beth.

Now... why would he do that? Why would he purposefully go and meet Diane, marry her and make a family, when he JUST killed Rick for the same thing?

WHAT IF. Prime was using Diane as cover to hide from Rick?????? SUPPOSEDLY, Morty brainwaves do that whole complimentary, masking brainwaves thing-- but WHAT IF, Diane's ALSO had the same ability?????? had to come from somewhere right??????

ANYWAY it seems like it takes 3-4 years after killing Rick's family to he starts his own. I imagine in this time period, Rick and Prime were playing a game of cat and mouse across the universe. What if Prime decided to go back to his own dimension to lay low?

He finds out that Diane brainwaves keep Ricks hidden, so he goes back to find his own Diane. He woos her, love bombs her and within 1-2 years he's dated her, married her and started a family with her.

See, I dont think Prime ever really loved or cared about his Diane. I don't think he actually even wanted to get married at all. So why tf would did he do that???????? Well, I could definitely see him using marriage for self serving purposes. After all, didn't c137 do the same thing? He went back and used Prime's family for his own gain.They have no issue using people 🤷

So anyway, Prime hides himself from Rick for 15 years with Diane and Beth. He plots away at his Dastardly Evil Plans, keeping tabs on Rick, hiding from him as he slowly pieces the Omega Device together until it's ready. We know that Prime was an absent father and I can't imagine him having a better relationship with his Diane compared to C137/Diane C137, so I'm willing to bet he had an extremely strained marriage with her. BUT AGAIN, that would make sense, if he was only using her to his benefit only caring about the construction of the device/hiding himself from Rick C137.

additionally, i dont think he immediately went to go back to find Rick C137 as soon as it was completed. Contrary to popular belief, i dont think Prime was using the omega device to specifically torture C137. I definitely think it played a big part in it, but there were definitely other reasons as to why he made this device.

I'm not clear on what Prime's exact motivations are, but it's always seemed to me that he wanted to make an army of Ricks or at least, he seemed to be searching for superior Ricks/that could match his level.

I'll be using some scenes from the crybaby backstory for some points:

After Prime killed Rick's family, it looks like (from 00:33 to 01:05) Rick has been adventuring around the universe, checking out new universes and also looking for Prime, feeling frustrated when he comes up empty.

If you look closely, it doesn't look like Rick is looking for Prime on Earth dimensions. Again, making me think that Prime went back to his own dimension to hide from Rick-- its almost kind of like the last place Rick would ever go look for him too??

In the very next scene, Rick has visibly aged. If Rick was 27-30 in previous frames, the aged jump makes Rick look like he’s 35-45 (maybe even older). He's glumly eating noodles and clearly doesn't look happy at all. He looks super jaded. During this time, we can see him in his rebel phase, fighting with BP and the infamous Bloodridge battle.

BP rejects him, and as we know, Rick doesn't take kindly to rejection. What happened when Morty rejected him in s6? He went back to the one thing that has always made sense to him, the one thing that's always kept him going. So perhaps, he goes back to his hunt for Prime after having lost his purpose and way with BP.

According to the timeline that I have, Prime is about 51 years old when he might've completed the Omega device. This lines up pretty neatly with Rick in his rebel phase era (tail end of 40 years old) So, what does they do next?

According to the video, we can see Rick starts finding a pretty good lead on Prime. If Rick and Prime were the only ones to actually invent portal tech, the old Rick using a portal gun at 01:15 is a Rick that Prime shared portal tech with. That's a pretty great start to tracking Prime. He tracks Prime down to a maze like base with OTHER RICKS BUT there are guard Ricks (that perhaps are Ricks that Prime has recruited to his side???) and also other Ricks he is competing with to get to the center. We see Rick is visibly frustrated when the other Rick smashes the Cube in the case. What if that was a lead to Prime directly?

In season 7, we see that Prime likes to play with other Ricks in the form of SAW traps. He seems to like weeding and sorting through Ricks.

WHAT IF, this maze like base was also another competition? And Prime was gathering Ricks using the potential of the omega device as bait?

Anyway, I have reason to suspect that the omega device was first triggered and destroyed by 1999 as Morty seems to have very little attachment to Diane making me believe he never met her or remembered her presence AND also at 01:57 in the video, Rick visibly ages again (becoming the Old Rick we all know so well, I would definitely place him at 60-70 at this point). He's back at his old home, the last place he ever saw Diane alive. He's drinking and he's still so very very sad, massacring Ricks left right and center. To meeeee, this sort of I really dont give a fuck anymore attitude seems a LOT like the attitude of a man who's REALLY lost everything. If he thought he lost Diane once, he's now forced to consider the reality that you could lose the person you love over infinity entirely. It would be even worse if it was Rick that accidentally triggered the omega device to go off killing all Dianes lol even if he managed to destroy the device in the end. Anyway, strong possibility that he did it considering how many Ricks start going after him????

What's your work process for making the backgrounds you use in Coquette Dragoon, if you feel comfortable sharing? I'm working on a 2D project and I want to use 3D environments for static backgrounds and am struggling to find a good environment to work in. I know blender or maya are commonly used, but it seems like such a process to learn 3D modeling to model entire detailed rooms for the background of a project that might never see the light of day. How did you get started with that, coming from your background? I'm really inspired by your work, and would love to know more about how that process looks for you.

blender is free and is totally your guy here. environments are a lot easier than they seem, follow some guides, get a habit of googling exact dimensions of things to keep the scale consistent until you can eyeball it and you can use tons and tons of free assets to create scenes too. i use freebie textures + make my own models but you can just use free models... i dont do it bc i dont wanna shortcut around learning 3d but if you wanna do it fast its a totally valid option.

i got started by just following youtube tutorials, grant abbit is my number one rec on the absolute basics, his stuff is dry but hes a good teacher.

the exact process for coquette is like.. i use a gradient map+posterization for the final output, this lowers the total colors and gives it a consistent palette so i dont need to worry too much about the colors in the 3d scene itself, or clarity of textures etc... so with that in mind, the 3d scene itself is a lot simpler than it appears.

as an example.. the manor in ch2 is a much simpler model than it appears. since the building+grass are both totally black they are just undefined flat surfaces. the cobblestone is just a texture i found online with the reflections turned up. the flowers are emissive to make them visible. use silhouettes+limited colors where you can etc... this is all pretty vague advice because i think you just have to work with 3d until you get a sense for how to simplify things or imply complexity. a lot of times if i dont want to model a whole area i just add some blur to make it all blend together or only model a small corner of the room and keep the camera there etc

i think regardless of whether your game happens or not you should learn 3d anyway because you can use it for something else later...

exceptiional work on that 4/13 drawing for being the exact visual experience of being attacked with a large metal baseball bat while scrolling down ones dashboard not just for the homestuck of it all but the SCATHING accuracy to characterization. i cant argue or get mad because youre absolutely 100% right. that is EXACTLY what troll straw hats would look like. that is PRECISELY what their horns and colors would be. you peered into a parallel dimension where all media is made of homestuck humans and trolls and saw this like some kind of terrible oracle. im applauding you the way a warlord does to the adversary that defeats him right before being executed . im in awe. im furious. great work all around thank you for sharing

yes. i actually put a lot of thought into that. i dont know if you actually wanted to hear it, but now i have an excuse to ramble.

the whole thing started as an excuse to make law’s death tattoo say ~ath like in homestuck (its a pun on tilde + ath. aka “til death”). but then my brain started whirring. like making mutant blood luffy (god-coded) but the universe is a beetle not a frog.

i wanted the straw hats as trolls, and the rest of the worst gen as humans. then i was coming up with horn designs (chopper keeps his. usopps are slingshot shaped. etc). that was fun. i knew i wanted zoros to be santoryuu and sanjis to be curly. oh, and fuchsia seadweller sanji who hides his blood color anyway.

idk the rest is stuff that i couldnt jam in one drawing. law dragging luffy to his quest bed after he gets a hole punched in his chest. beposprite. eustass kid setting his strife specibus to like, wingnutkind, and killer telling him “you cant change that, you know.”

tma/tmagp spoilers below!!

im very hesitant to make any theories about the type of powers at work in the tmagp universe, i dont think theyre the exact same set we had in tma, but i do think the old fears exist in some capacity in this dimension, but likely as different factions, all swirled together, one huge conglomerate, or a secret fourth thing (mixing with whatever entities originally existed in this universe). but after the recent few tmagp episodes im starting to think the old fears (and their divisions) are still playing a role in how the powers are manifesting.

ink5oul is largely an eye-coded avatar to me. they seem to be following a similar path to tma avatars (ink5oul has their own agenda and is researching old tattoo artists and likely has a connection to alchemy in some respect). as an influencer, they feed from the fear of people watching their content and the person whos being tattooed. their victims that we know about have also been somewhat eye-adjacent. in episode 2, they feed off of a woman who suffers from extreme body dysmorphia and is hyper-aware of how others perceive her. she refuses to turn on her camera for therapy, constantly compares her own appearance to others, and insists her therapist perceive her as sane. madam e is similar in that the perceptions of others physically harms her. she says that the hate comments and online drama were cutting her, saying she could feel it when people viewed her content. her body deteriorated because she was famous, because she made a call out video, because she just wanted to be known. these are both incredibly eye-aligned incidents, though they do have aspects of other powers.

other incidents have struck me as overwhelmingly similar to fears we knew from tma, episodes 15 and 14 were heavy handed with their tma fear alignments. lady mowbray is the head of a hunting party who instructed a man to chase after his coworkers and kill them to prove himself as worthy prey, exploring a twist on themes of pack hunting we saw in tma. in episode 14 we get a man whos been puppeted by snakes, operating a disgusting shop infested with pests and littered with rotting food- obviously adjacent to the corruption. just like with ink5oul's victims, these cases also had elements that related to other fears, but ultimately i think they highlight a specific type of fear within each incident. even tma statements had cases that overlapped- confession/desecrated host, monster pig, lost johns cave, murder club. i do think that the tma fears still exist in the tmagp universe, and im actually coming to believe theyre operating similar to in their "original" (who knows) universe, but with some extra variables to scrabble things around.

im still super vague on what i think is affecting the fears, and i doubt ill subscribe to a true concrete theory before we get a reveal, but i do have some loose connections across the tmagp episodes so far. alchemy has been an obvious aspect of whatever is making tmagp's fears a different flavor to tma's fears. the logo for the series is of the trinity expressing the mind, body, and soul- together creating the philosopher's stone, a key to immortality. im being careful to not draw many connections to tma since i believe this to be largely an independent storyline, but this draws some obvious similarities to jonah's pursuits of immortality, ruling the world, and combining the fears to create one all-powerful entity. or, as lena said, creating balance. im unsure of how this is playing out so far- i think whatever big bad (if there is one) that wants to disrupt or bring about this balance is either not known to us yet or has yet to fulfill their arc into a big bad (this could be a corruption arc for someone like sam or gwen, or a reveal of big bads lurking in the background like jmj). but whatever the details of that are, im confident that achieving a balance and connection of the alchemic trinity is a key aspect of how the fears are being expressed in this universe. i mean, there were never really 14 fears, but they still manifested that way because they were partially constructed by human minds. if this universe comprehends them through the lens of alchemy, seeing them as manifestations of the mind, the body, and the soul, then they'll likely conform to that in some way.

another thread i think might be relevant is the amount of gore and personal harm in just about every incident so far. in almost every case we've seen theres been some instance of pain, loss, and intentional harm. this is especially connected to getting a response or reward (being fed) from the encounter. needles needs to cause fear, and he accomplishes that through physically harming someone. the murder violin and the fedora guy dice are both fed by the suffering of others. ink5oul made one girl tear into her own face, and made another self inflict her own heart problems. lady mowbray is a devout cannibal. i dont feel the need to get into mr bonzos messy history. for every avatar/external/feeder of these powers, they inflict a physical mark or pain upon the people theyre feeding from. this draws a much more physical horror than the more psychological fears we dealt with in tma. im not entirely sure what this means in terms of its connections with alchemy and the fears, im not sure if its a real dot to connect or not, but its some food for thought!
